How Did Erasmus Use Folly to Criticize the Catholic Church
How did Erasmus use Folly to criticize the Catholic Church of his Day? It may
seem odd or different to admire and acclaim Folly, but there is a definite benefit to
foolishness: the freedom to tell only factual information. In Praise of Folly,
Erasmus put this independence to good use in repeating to the readers, a
civilization significantly besmirched by mature worries, that a person is unable to
serve both God and Mammon. He leveled over his irony by promising us that there
is merit in being attacked by Folly (7), and closed with the recap that it s Folly and
a woman who s been speaking (134), a renunciation that permitted him to be as brutal
as he desired to be in his condemnation. He definitely found necessity for severity,...

Spiritual goods such as devout knowledge are not good business sense: How much
money, Folly asks, can he make in business if he lets wisdom be his guide, if he
recoils from perjury, blushes if he s caught telling a lie, and takes the slightest notice
of those niggling scruples wise men have about thieving and usury? (114) The traders
instead displayed a sophisticated understanding to outfit their gluttony. Erasmus also

Abstract This paper involves a novel application of the improved particle swarm
optimization (IPSO) in an economic dispatch problem (EDP) that consists influence
of valve point loading, power balance, and generators constraints. This method is able
to improve the best value of the cost function with a slight increase in the average
time trials. This procedure is suitable for solving large scale and complex economic
dispatch problems. In this report, IPSO algorithm is tested on three systems and
experimental results are compared with other efficient methods. Simulation results
demonstrate the efficiency of proposed algorithms for solving economic dispatching
problems.

AMERICAN TEEN:
A documentary filled with scripted spontaneity and a slight insight to reality explores
the stereotypical lives of five high school seniors. Kaylee O Dwyer talks about the
truth behind this popular film, American Teen.
American Teen, directed by Nanette Burstein, is a documentary film set in a small
town in Indiana. The film follows the lives of five high school teenagers through
their final year of high school in a way that hasn t been perceived since The
Breakfast Club . The film over exaggerates the problems, demands and complications
the modern generations are facing today by combining candid footage with false,
staged events. The goal is less to provide a slice of reality than it is to estimate a
fictionalized version of that reality through the inclusion of re enactments,
dramatisations, voice overs and other techniques, deceiving viewers into believing
that what they re seeing is actually real.
The film follows the five seniors from ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are without a doubt numerous scenes in the film that are obviously staged or
recreated for reasons such as in situations which the camera man wasn t present, to
improve the film, errors in the recordings or errors in the sound. Viewers have
doubted the authenticity of the film but Burstein continues to defend her film as an
accurate, non manipulated insight of teenage life. The scene of Megan sending
around Erica s picture to the whole school captures the replies and comments all the
students were making. Also in the scene where Hannah s boyfriend breaks up with
her by text captures his message perfectly to Hannah. In a situation of an unexpected
event there is no possible way the camera man could be present at all times to
capture every reply. Burstein seems to always have her camera present at just the right
Black And Blue Synthesis
(What Did I Do to Be So) Black and Blue was composed by Fats Waller with lyrics
written by Andy Razaf and Harry Brooks. It was originally debuted in 1929 in the
Broadway musical Hot Chocolates and was originally performed by Edith Wilson.
The song was later changed and popularized and recorded several different times by
Louis Armstrong. Armstrong s rendition of the song is a fairly typical example of
typical jazzin the 1920s both lyrically and musically. The performance futures
Armstrong s trumpetand singing front and center in the performance with a drum set,
trombone, clarinet, and piano in the background. The Song has a very bluesy feel
much like a lot jazz of the time. This moody feel steams from the minor cord

Zero Tolerance Policy Paper
A.Zero tolerance policies
According to Wilson (2014), zero tolerance refers to strict, uncompromising,
automatic punishment to eliminate undesirable behavior. There is a link between the
criminalization of youth and zero tolerance policies (Wilson, 2014). Zero tolerance
policies have been associated with the term school to prison pipeline and are found in
schools across the nation. These policies lead to school failure and exclusion
which in turn result in bad life outcomes and mass incarceration of boys and young
men of color (Wilson, 2015). Superpredators became the label for juveniles during
the late 80 s and early 90 s because there was a rise in high profile violent and drug
related crimes. Boot camps became popular during this period

Bury Payplan.
1) Pay methods and pay distribution arrangements
Most of the Bury Payplan clients choosing BACS payment method and some of our
clients are interested to pay their employees via Cheque. To ensure on time
processing and output delivery NGA have implemented a schedule which is known
as Master Schedule. Which consist of Name and reference of payrolls, Frequency of
payrolls, Pay Method, Pay date, Payroll Input due date, Preview Date, Preview cutoff
date, Payroll Final report due date , BACS submission date and current status of
payroll(Process pending, processing, processed, audit pending, auditing, audited,
input awaiting, query to client). NGA give different colours for each payroll
status this help NGA to identify the payroll status easily. To ensure on time
processing of BACS NGA create another spread sheet called BACS control sheet
for BACS clients, which includes BACS transmission date, BACS processing date
and pay date. Both the schedule help NGA to process the payroll and pay the
employees on time and this ensure 100% Turn Around Time (TAT) for all payrolls.
NGA sending each client s forthcoming period s schedule along with their payroll
output therefore our clients also aware about their schedule for each pay period.
NGA reduce the number of errors and TAT miss by implementing master schedule and

The Tenant Of Tenants And Landlords
As it often happens, there may come a time when a manager of an apartment building
(landlord) and a tenant argument rises up. These arguments can pop up over many
different issues including lease agreement rights, responsibility for repairs to the
property, rent, evictions, and more. It is unfortunate that not all tenants and landlords
arguments can be settled by a simple conversation between both parties to the lease.
While many people in the U.S. are homeowners a great many other people live as
tenants in different types of rental residences. Even though tenants don t actually own
their rental residences they do receive certain rights almost the same in some ways to
ownership rights. Tenants of rental residences and their landlords also have
responsibilities to each other, including residence repairs. Depending on the situation
/event, a tenant or a landlord may be responsible for making repairs to the tenant s
rental residence.
Knowledge of state law is extremely important to both tenants and landlords.
Managers of apartment buildings want to run a money making business and protect
their investment. Tenants want to be happy in their rental homes and protect their
rights. At the end of the day, managers of apartment buildings and people who
occupy those rooms want to avoid legal hassles when it comes to rent, deposits,
repairs, and other key issues. Let s take a look at Larry s and Roger s situation and
figure out the best course of actions from both points of view.
The Lottery Sacrifice
The human society often forgets the sacrifices made to achieve happiness. Soldiers
fight for years so that America can possess it s freedom. Mothers sacrifice nine
months of their life to give birth to their little bundle of happiness . Sometimes
sacrifice is needed in order to obtain the greater good. In The Lotteryby Shirley
Jackson and The ones who walk away from Omelas by Ursula Guin, the common
theme is the idea of sacrifice. Readers can portray the theme by comparing and
contrasting the difference between the societies, the innocents involved, and the
sacrifice made. The societies play a major role in contrasting how people act when
sacrifices need to be made. In The Lottery, the people do not question the lottery. In
fact,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In The Lottery, they are sacrificing one s life for harvest. Instead of realising that
working hard and managing the farms will bring them good harvest, they believe
someone needs to be stoned to death. Next thing you know, they ll be wanting to
go back to living in caves, nobody work anymore, live that way for a while. Used
to be a saying about lottery in June, corn be heavy soon. First thing you know, we d
all be eating stewed chickweed and acorns. There s always been a lottery (3). The
sacrifice that is made is the death of one of the town folk. This sacrifice happens so
often, the people start to memorize the procedure. While there is a sacrifice in The
Ones Who Walk Away from Omelas, It does not happen as often. The child also is
not murdered. The people of Omelas believe one child must sacrifice his happiness
for the sake of all the other people. Some of them understand why, and some do not,
but they all understand that their happiness, the beauty of their city,..even the
abundance of their harvest and the kindly weathers of their skies, depend wholly on
this child s abominable misery (3). These two stories contrast through the sacrifices
made. Although one is dying while the other suffers, both give up their life for the
greater

The purpose for President John F. Kennedy s putting a man into space and
developing a national space organization was national prestige (Compton). Russian
had already taken leaps ahead of us in the exploration of space by the successful

Subsequently, the space race had begun and the entire county had become spectators.
It was the marriage of government and scientist which eventually lead to the building

Tips For Buying The Right Golf Glove
Tips for Buying the Right Golf Glove
The golf glove is an important component in the whole golfing setup because it
provides a tackier grip, which helps prevent club twisting when taking a swing or
shot. Majority of golfers also wear gloves to protect their hands from blisters,
calluses and elements such as the sun and rain. Golf gloves are made from three main
types of material; synthetic, leather and hybrid material. A high quality leather glove
promises ultimate comfort because it is soft and pliable while a glove made from
synthetic material is more durable, flexible and cheap. Synthetic gloves are cheaper
largely because they do not breathe as well as leather made gloves. Hybrid gloves, on
the other hand, are mostly made from real and synthetic leather.
Hybrid gloves are popular because they aptly combine the benefits of true leather and
synthetic materials to guarantee comfort and firm grip. Because of increased
competition, the best golf gloves are marketed with features and functionalities like
premium Cabrera leather, excellent fit and use of micro vent material for enhanced
breathability. The other types of golf gloves in the market include all weather gloves,
thermal gloves and golf mitts. The challenge amateur and professional golfer s face
when buying gloves is choosing a product that will work for them without
compromising quality. This decision is usually influenced by a number of factors,
key among them personal preference, budget, material and level of
Essay on Intrinsic versus Extrinsic Motivation
Intrinsic versus Extrinsic Motivation
Introduction
The success of any business depends on the productivity and satisfaction of its
employees. Employees need to be motivated to work. Motivation can be defined as
the inner force that drives individuals to accomplish personal and organizational
goals. Motivation can be either intrinsic or extrinsic. For an individual to be
motivated in a work situation there must be a need, which the individual would have
to perceive a possibility of satisfying through some reward. Intrinsic motivation stems
from motivations that are inherent and arise from performing the task of the job
itself, which the individual gets a feeling of either positive or negative motivation as
a result of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Those that are intrinsically motivated have a bit of advantages over workers who are
more predominantly extrinsically motivated. For instance, intrinsically motivated
people work on job tasks because they find them enjoyable and interesting.
Additionally, there is evidence showing that intrinsic motivation is positively
correlated with learning, achievement, perception of competence and self efficacy. At
the same time, it is negatively correlated with anxiety, depression, and frustration. An
intrinsically motivated individual will be committed to his or her work to the extent
to which the job inherently contains tasks that are inherently rewarding to him or her
(Lei, 2010).
Drawbacks of Intrinsic Motivation Although intrinsic motivation has numerous
benefits, few drawbacks of intrinsic motivation should also be considered as well. An
intense form of intrinsic motivation can reach to the point that employees can
completely lose track of time and space, completely ignore authority and other
important tasks, as well as not having enough time to learn or perform other essential
tasks while learning and enjoying a particular academic activity. When performing an
enjoyable task, a person can lose track of space or self awareness. Individuals
motivated by intrinsic gratification seek an experience for itself, rather than for
anticipated rewards. The process is considerably more important to them than the
resulting product or outcome, which has them working often
Symbolism In The Wonderful Wizard Of Oz
In 1900, L. Frank Baum authored the famed The Wonderful Wizard of Oz book.
This was followed by being produced as a Broadway musical in 1902, and the
motion picture release in 1939 (Zwissler, 2014). The popularity of this story is
nearly unfathomable. According to the Library of Congress (1992), The Wonderful
Wizard of Ozis the most watched film in motion picture history (in Zwissler, 2014).
Scalise Sugiyama and Sugiyama (2011) suggest that stories such as these
originated as oral warnings and eventually became literary warnings, followed by
sharing similar warnings in a film. Although this may be true for some stories, The
Wonderful Wizard of Oz used symbolism to tell a story of the time period, instead of
serving as a typical... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The munchkins may have represented the average citizen, as they were small and
described as busy workers but having minimal influence in the story. The Tinman may
have represented American industrial workers who were degraded by the Robber
Barons in the late nineteenth century and early years of the twentieth century.
Although the book was written much earlier, the movie debuted at the end of the
Great Depression. The Cowardly Lion may have represented some of the week
politicians during the period. History reveals that many politicians, of the time, were
controlled by big industry, and those who were not corrupt, were often powerless to
enact need changes. The Wicked Witches of the East and West may have represented
eastern business and the western industrialists, while the Good Witches of the North
and South may have represented the northern industrial workers and the southern
farmers. The flying monkeys may have represented Native American Indians. In the
story, Dorothy is told that the monkeys were once free and lived happily on the land
until Oz took control of the land. Oz may have represented the U.S. government,
while the Wizard may have represented the U.S.

The Quiet Place Poem Summary
The poem, The Quiet Place, by Evelyn Lau expresses the feelings of paranoia, fear,
and confinement one may face while being trapped within four parallel walls. The
setting takes place at a Psychiatric Assessment Unit in Vancouver General Hospital.
This is significant for the poem because it showcases the emotions many patients face
while being constantly watched through a monitor that is scrutinizing their every
movement. Likewise, in the poem, Evelyn Lau takes upon the persona of a girl who
is admitted at the hospital and has been assigned to Quiet Room #4 and feels
confined. She is constantly paranoid, hence the small noises that appear louder then
they really are and the observation camera that seems to follow her every movement.
Likewise,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These noises set a disturbing mood and showcase the constant paranoia the
persona is facing. Additionally, the observation camera further increases the
feeling of insanity because the persona feels trapped within a room and the feeling
of someone constantly watching engulfs her. Similarly, the simile, The
observation camera blinks at the flower of blood wilting on the ground puckered
as an old woman s lips the signature of a nurse stealing life through a hole in the
patient s arm, creates an image of a nurse taking blood from the persona while
droplets of blood drip from her arm. This is a significant simile because it
represents what the persona feels regarding doctors and nurses and how they are
supposed to save her; however, each time a droplet of blood hits the ground, they
drain her from her life. Likewise, a flower is supposed to represent peace and
beauty, but in the poem it is shown as a decaying plant whose petals are drowning
in blood. Moreover, the line Naked feet, creates an image of vulnerability and
weakness because underneath the hard exterior of shoes lay fragile

Current Trends Of Data Mining
Current Trends in Data Mining
Sardor Khodjaev
I. INTRODUCTION
Data itself is useless, until it is mined and transformed into a valuable source of
knowledge discovery. Due to its conversion into useful information, data mining has
become the leading source being used in many fields worldwide. Data mining is based
on complex algorithms that allow for the segmentation of data to identify patterns
and trends, detect anomalies, and predict the probability of various situational
outcomes. [1] Many organizations from healthcare to multimedia and more are
relaying on data and getting developed through the use of it. Regardless of how, data
warehouse changed its rhythm and dimension in terms of measurements such as:
variety, volume and velocity. Today, one can see the current trends of data mining in
different fields such as social networks, healthcare and businesses. As data mining is
giving the opportunity for those fields to get advanced, Big Data is also opening up
new doors within itself as the new trends emerge.
However, Big Data suggests something more than just an analysis of huge volumes of
information. The problem is not that the organizations create high volume of data, but
the fact that most of them are presented in a format consisting with traditionally poor
structured form of database such as: a web based magazines, images, videos, text
documents, machine code and geospatial data . All of these are allocated in a
distributed storages, sometimes even

Intelligence Correlations Between Brothers Decrease With Increasing Age Difference
Topic Background/Introduction
In this article, the researchers is the study how the age difference between brothers
affect the correlation between their intelligence test scores. They describe how there
has not been much research on the effect of age difference between siblings
(specifically brothers) on intelligence. There have been many other studies that have
shown that while both genes and differences in one s environment may create
differences between people, familial similarities are caused mostly by shared genes
(SSS. Studies using participants that were adopted show that intelligences seems to
vary with age. For instance, the correlation between the intelligence test scores of
young children who are not related is much higher than that of the same children
during adolescence. Other studies, using twins, suggest that shared environmental
effects are present in childhood and early adulthood, but are absent in late adulthood.
The researchers mention that studying adopted children, who are usually brought into
affluent and well functioning? Homes, show that they are not representative of the
entire population. There are many more factors, when studying adopted siblings, and
identical/fraternal twins that can lead to an overestimation or underestimation of the
effects of either the shared environment or familial genetics. The researchers suggest
that new data in needed to solve
Ethical Issues in the Film Erin Brockovich
The movie Erin Brockovich is based on actual events involving a corporate
business called Pacific Gas Electric who knowingly endangering the health of
residents and the water supply in the town of Hinkley. Erin is the mother of three
children who is out of work. In the midst of her job search she got into an auto
accident and was injured. Erin has an ethical and moral responsibility to feed her
children so she forces her lawyer Ed Masry to give her a secretarial job after he
failed to get her a settlement from the auto accident. Erin has difficulty fitting in at
the firm, the other female co workers do not approve of her attire or her cleavage!
The women in the office do not include Erin or help her out when she asks for
assistance. Erin stumbles across a case file about real estate which confuses her
because it contained medical records. She got curious about the case and asked
permission from her boss to work on it. This is the first ethical issue that comes up
because she is not a lawyer and should not investigate the case without the proper
legal experience.
During Erin s discovery of the facts of the case we begin to see the breakdown of
the ethical values of PG E. The dramatization focuses on the deception that PG E has
cast over the inhabitants of Hinkley, California. For years, the company has been
polluting the environment with a known deadly toxin, Chromium six. The toxin
seeped into natural underground water reservoirs then into the unsuspecting town
My Summer Vacation At Toronto
Two summers ago in 2014 I took my annual summer vacation to Toronto. I spent
two months with my aunt, uncle, and cousins. Around that time everyone had the
World Cup fever, rooting for their country or other countries. For much of the
beginning of my stay I sequestered myself in my room surrounded only by my
electronic companions. By mid July I adapted to a daily routine of afternoon wake
up, brunch, and returning back to my room to scroll through Instagram and check
my Snapchat. Occasionally I would participate in the family ritual of lounging lazily
in the evening in the family room watching the latest Big Brother episode after the
adults long day of work. On one of those days in about the last week of June my
older cousin, Feben,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
That morning I assumed Nylah felt troublesome and Navaeha felt bored as well.
They plotted a wicked scheme to have fun. They decided to take turns popping in
and out of my room and robbed me of a half an hour of sweet sweet sleep. I, of
course stayed up later than I should have, so they weren t fully to blame. I groggily
got ready and lumbered with my suitcase down the steps. The little ones finished
getting ready and Feben and I managed to find the missing items. I knew that this
trip to Niagara would differ from my other two trips because it had a spontaneous
aspect. The sun shined timidly through the windows as my little cousins finished
up getting ready. We finally got loaded in the car by mid morning on a early
August Saturday. The drive lasted two hours. However, with two energetic little
people in addition to traveling on an endless highway it felt like an eternity. I can t
even remember how many times the phrases Are we there yet? and Can we have
candy? escaped Navaeha and Nylah s mouth. By the thirty minute mark, I looked
up to the welkin and begged God for mercy. About an hour into the trip, we pulled
into a parking lot for bathroom breaks and snack distributions. I stepped out to grab
some fresh air and next to me I saw a grand peach tree hovering over my side of the
car. I thought to myself how the peaches probably tasted really good And my appetite
suddenly whetted. I grabbed the fruit
Wireless Sensor Networks And Technology Constraints
Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) present universally and growing rapidly due to
its unique features, such as their less weight, cheap, and wireless nature. However,
due to its highly constrained computational and energy resources this network is
exposed to numerous attacks that affect its security. So, it is important to address
these security issues from the beginning of the system design. but, due to inherent
resource and computing constraints, security in sensor networks poses diverse
challenges than traditional network security so, designing security protocols for
all layers in this kind of a network becomes an compelling need. In this paper, we
studied several existing WSN security protocols and data link layer security
algorithms, which ensures a safe communication link between neighboring nodes by
supervising the medium access and handling the errors. The purpose of this paper is
Not Only Studying and explaining the strength and limitations of the existing

In 1939 Hitler knew that it was essential that Norway remained Neutral during the
second world. If Norway were to fall to the British it would mean that Germany
would lose vital Swedish iron ore supplies shipped through Norway. Germany
imports about 11 million tons of iron ore from Sweden every year and particularly
from the port of luleГҐ, but in winter this port freezes up. The port in Narvik, Norway
does not freeze up in winter so it was of huge importance that Hitler secure the port.
Just as Hitler saw the need to secure Norway to insure iron ore the Allies also were

just finished taking Poland with ease; Norway had of about 3 million and with the
majority of people centred in the larger cities. Norway hardly even possessed and
army after assuming a policy of neutrality during the 1st world war. Hitler s plan
was to successfully invade and secure the main Norwegian cities. Cities such as the
capital Oslo was to be attacked by both land and sea. Sola, a major air base near the
coastal city of Stavanger in the south was to be attacked by an air landing while
the nearby city was to be attacked by parachutists. Narvik, Trondheim and Bergen
were to be attacked by troops being landed by warships as they were located on
Norway s coastline. This would also help avoid the British. German troops were
ordered when possible don t fire unless fired upon as the Germans wanted and hoped
the Norwegian government would surrender quickly without costing Hitler money,
troops and supplies.
On the 1st of March Hitler ordered a formal order to an invasion and stipulated that
preparation must be carried out with speed and military precision. On the 1st of

German troops began to leave Germany by the 7th April 1940. The British were

Clicktivism Book Report
How Clicktivism Killed the Activist Since it s conception, the resounding sentiment
at the heart of any activist movement has been the desire to have one s voice heard.
The common ambition of activists of every kind has always been to represent the
needs and injustices of the marginalized communities in question, and in doing so, to
bring about change. Margaret Mead, a cultural anthropologist, and an outspoken
feminist once said, never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens
can change the world; indeed it s the only thing that ever has. However, in recent
years, activism has begun to take on a very different form. This once small group of
thoughtful and committed citizens dedicated to justice have multiplied exponentially

Much of the incentive to become an activist is to be a part of a movement; an
integral cog in the changing of history. One indisputable benefit of social media is
its ability to effectively inform millions of people at once; this is infinitely
powerful. The interactive format of social networking invites individuals to educate
themselves on an issue and then to contribute to it, all in under ten minutes. Despite
its efficiency, the detriment of this system is that it perpetuates the idea that the
signing of a change.org petition is all it takes to make a difference. Grassroots
activism and petitioning, while absolutely fundamental parts of the pursuit of social
justice are often only the inciting steps in the lengthy and usually complicated
process of creating lasting change. In 2014, in the wake of the deaths of Michael
Brown, Eric Garner, and Tamir Rice, to name just a few, an international movement
protesting police brutality began with the hashtag #blacklivesmatter. The issue of
racially induced police brutality became a relevant topic of debate in the
presidential election that followed, and protests took place worldwide. This
movement is winning a major battle in the war against racism and much of this
success was owed to its sensational presence on social media. The Black Lives
Matter movement is an example of social networking being an invaluable tool in

In today s society we have found that the best way to find what works for individuals
and businesses alike is done through business research. This is not always done in
ethical manners though. Some companies tend to ask questions that are inappropriate
while others changed the information they have been given to make their product
look more appealing. This paper will focus on skewing the research results in the
service of selling the drug Neurontin. Neurontin is a brand name for the drug
gabapentin and it is manufactured by Pfizer and Parke Davis (Ramirez de Arellano,

conditions such as epilepsy. There have been a large ... Show more content on

those reported in publications, in which 8 of those published trials had different
primary outcomes reported than was in the original research protocol (Ramirez de

distinguishing between the primary and the secondary outcomes, and not reporting
all of the primary outcomes. There was 21 primary outcomes for the research and out
of those 21 protocols there was 6 not reported and 4 were put as secondary outcomes
instead of primary. The changes made in the published reports were done to make
Neurontin look favorable for the unapproved indications. In the Neurontin situation of
skewing the research done for the medication, affects the people that use the drug
along with others that take any medication. It makes the doctors look as if they do
not know what they are doing when they prescribe the medication and leaves
individuals in an untrusting state to try something new to treat their ailments. It also
makes the scientists that develop the drug look bad. Another thing this does is
undermines individuals trust in published studies and the entire decision making
process. The organization is affected by this unethical

Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Assessment Analysis
Tests are assessing a person by using many techniques to gather a data. Also, it is a
procedure to make sure the quality, performance, and reliability of something before
using widely. Tests offer an additional venue for helping us understand the ability and
personality of our clients (Neukrug, 2011, p. 397). Tests can be beneficial in goal
setting and treatment planning. In the end of the nineteenth century, Alfred Binet
developed one of the first tests. A test provides only part of the picture about a
person. On the other hand, assessment process combines and evaluates all the
information gathered about an individual or a group of individuals to provide
guidance (U.S. Department of Labor Employment and Training Administration, 2006,
p. 12) Assessment is very wide range and many techniques to assess an individual. It

Essay on Love Song of J Alfred Prufrock
In the poem The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock by T.S. Elliot, Prufrock is a man
that is pessimistic, has low self esteem, and has much internal conflict. He believes
that he isn t good enough for the women of his desire; this theme also becomes a
motif. The epigraph of the poem is an excerpt from Dante s Inferno, in which that
the perfect audience could only be someone who would never be allowed into the
real worldwhere that person(s) might reveal Prufrocks idiosyncrasies. This of course
is impossible so therefore he must settle on a personal reflection, thus creating an
interior dialogue. This in effect sets a mood of isolation giving the reader some
foreshadowing in to what the poem will be about. The image of a... Show more

In the eyes of Prufrock he could never compare with Michelangelo, therefore he
could never be the object of the women s conversations much less their desires or
hearts. The repetition of the lines how should I presume? and how should I begin?
exemplify Prufrocks inability to commit and his overall pessimistic outlook. I
should have been a pair of ragged claws scuttling across the floors of silent seas,
(lines 73 74) these words are an allusion to the crab. This is significant not in the
way the crab looks or its shape but in its direction of movement; instead of moving
forwards like most animals, it moves sideways. When related to Prufrock it means
that he really never goes anywhere he just sits there oscillating in his mind whether
to go up to the ladies or not, but never actually goes forward and does it. The rhyme
scheme for this poem includes end rhyme, streets...retreats (lines 4 5), internal
rhyme, decisions and revisions (line 48), and slant rhyme, meet... create (lines 27
28). At the end of the poem it is structured most like an English sonnet. The evidence
for this is in the last two lines that both rhyme and conclude the poem. The last line
meaning that when the outside world gets involved, till the human voices wake us
the dream or fantasy is ruined we drown. Prufrock believes the women will put him
down by making insults such as how his hair is growing
Theme Of Borders By Thomas King Borders
The mother in Borders by Thomas King reveals her pride and courage for her
identity as she crosses the border to visit her daughter Laetitia in Salt Lake City.
Challenges like self identity are faced every step of the way, but it a person with
pride and bravery who accepts it gladly. This is best demonstrated by King and his
use of conflict, repetition and literary devices. In the short story, there is a conflict
between the mother and the guards at the border. As the mother and son approach the
American border the mother refuses to give her citizenship as either Canadian or
American. Once she reaches the border, she has a conversation with the guard:
Purpose of your visit? Visit my daughter. Citizenship? Blackfoot, my mother told him.
Ma am? Blackfoot, my mother repeated. Canadian? Blackfoot (82).
This demonstrates the pride that the mother has for her cultural identity.
As a result of refusing to give her citizenship, the mother is stuck between the
borders. The narrator observes how I told Stella that we were Blackfoot and
Canadian, but she said that didn t count because I was a minor. In the end, she told us
that if my mother didn t;t declare her
Hawaii s Telescope Controversy Analysis
Shannon Hall wrote Hawaii s Telescope Controversy Is the Latest in a Long
History of Land Ownership Battles to highlight the ethics issue surrounding the use
of a sacred location to further science. The bases of this ethics issue begins in the
1950 1970, when the pursuit of the Moon, technology and science trumped nearly all
other concerns. During this time period allocations of property were leased to
astronomers in areas where locals had very little say. This occurred on the peak of the
largest mountain in the world, Mauna Kea. This mountain starts at the bottom of the
ocean floor and rises a staggering 33,500 ft, nearly a mile taller than Mt.Everest. The
peak of the mountain is a prime location for the most advanced telescopesin the world.

unwelcome aliens that have desecrated the once pristine peak of the most sacred
mountain on earth (Ferreira 4). Ferreira used this article to recounts her personal
experience with the Hawaiians and the TMT. Ferreira encountered a Dedicated group
of protesters hoping to prevent the construction of a 14th observatory (Ferreira 2)
which prevented Ferreira from gaining access to the construction ground of the TMT.
This is not the first time in Hawaii s history that protestors have had an impact upon
the local astronomers. One large protest, comprising of 700 protestors, made the
road inaccessible by dislodging boulders onto it. Another protest inspired a lone
vandal to damage fiber optic cables that linked the telescopes, resulting in 50,000
dollars in repairs. These protests have been successful at gaining media press as well
as indefinitely halting the construction of the
Things Done Well During The Presentation
Things done well
During the presentation there were examples provided from the textbook to allow
the trainees to capture what was being presented and said. This allowed for them
to see what was being taught. It was also helpful that there were examples provided
during the presentation to allow for a real life experiences in the workforce,
making everything more relatable to each individual in its own unique way. There
were also instances where trainees were asked questions and to engage them
throughout the process of training. This would allow them to constantly think,
especially when there were pop quizzes throughout. Trainees were also able to ask
questions during the entire presentation, allowing for people to have their answers
answered at any point. In order for this to succeed we had to prepare beforehand so
that the questions would be answered as effectively and as clearly as they could.
Having handouts that had the slides with room to write notes on the side allowed the
audience to make notes and to write ideas. We also provide quizzes that were
interactive throughout the presentation on the slides. This allowed us to ask the
question, and afterwards there were animations that showed the audience which
answer was the right one. It was a little bit of a learning curve, but it was done clearly
and effectively after some research had been performed. By implanting new ideas into
presentations, it not only allows the presenters to learn something new, but it also
The Power Of Nature In Frankenstein
Frankenstein by Mary Shelley explores the fight between man and nature through
the story of eager scientist Victor Frankenstein, who artificially creates life from the
body parts of the deceased with disastrous consequences. By highlighting the intense
power of nature, Shelley comments on the folly of attempting to subjugate nature to
bend to one s will. The first significant mention of the power of nature comes as
Victor recalls seeing lightning strike a tree in his childhood. On a sudden I beheld a
stream of fire issue from an old and beautiful oak which stood about 20 yards from
our house; and so soon as the dazzling light vanished the oak had disappeared
(Shelley 38). Shelley highlights the tree s age specifically, immediately before
revealing its destruction. By showing the ability of lightning to strike down
something which has stood the tests of time, she shows the ability of nature to cause
massive destruction which even rugged trees cannot withstand. Even Victor seems
awed by the might of the storm, calling the lightning dazzling . In many ways, this
event foreshadows Victor s own demise. To bring his creature to life, he imbues it
with energy similar to that of lightning both, presumably, are electricity and from that
energy comes the monstrosity that is his creature. Even as the lightning is shown to
destroy, Victor uses it to create, ultimately bringing into the world an unnatural
creature. By juxtaposing the lightning s destruction of the tree with Victor s

Art Deco Movement Essay
The art deco movement was the most fashionable and international design movement
in the modern art from1925 until the 1940s. this exemplary movement had major
influences on people and some great examples of this movement are the geometric
designs on New York s famous Chrysler building and Rockefeller Centre.
Just like arts and crafts movement and the Bauhaus movement, art deco also
embraced all type of arts inclusive of crafts and fine arts. The main purpose of this
movement was to bring back the decorations in art which were minimized by the
Bauhaus movement. Art deco was mainly applied to decorative art like interior
design, furniture, architecture, graphics and so on.
The art deco style represented modernity, as it was characterized by smooth lines and
geometric shapes, streamlined forms and sometimes loud colors.

However, Renfro Michelin and his colleagues posit that to ensure a reliable and
valid behavioral change, the study must follow three guiding principles such as
prediction, verification and replication and focus on the dependent and independent
variables (2010). In the case of the group being studied for behavioral changes, the
dependent variable focuses on the groups eating habits and the independent variable
is the actual treatment that impacts the dependent variable. To further target the
issue of the dependent variable, the researcher can monitor the variable in terms of
duration, latency, and ratio (Renfro Michel et al., 2010). For instance, how many
words can a student type while he is in class? How long does it take for him to type
those words? In terms of latency, the researcher can focus on diabetics initial dose of
insulin and when the patient s symptoms begin to subside or glucose levels begin to
level off. Finally, while the dependent variable or, the targeted behavior can be
measured in different manners, measurements in terms of percentage appear more
concrete.

The location of the kingdom along the Nile River provided strategic communication
and trade routes both within the kingdom and throughout northeastern Africa.
Kushites also farmed the Nile River valley, relying on irrigation systems and
rainfall in some areas. The Kushites also mined minerals and high quality stone for
trade and introduced and developed iron metallurgy to the region. This region of
Africa also produced more gold than anywhere in the world at that time. An
archeological site near the present day village of Hosh el Guruf in Sudan, dating to
the early Kush period 1700 1500 B.C. revealed a massive ... Show more content on

As middlemen, Kushite traders passed along ivory, ebony, incense, and other exotic
goods from the South to the Egyptians who then traded with other Mediterranean
peoples. The city of Kerma, with its strategic location on the Nile River, controlled
the trade route between the lands farther south of Kush and Egypt in the north. The
role of Kush as a trade middleman influenced the relationship between Egypt and
Kush. Egypt actively sought to expand their empire as well as control the trade routes

Abc Model of Crises Intervention
1 ABC Model of Crises Intervention Linda S Dallas Kaplan University Prof:
Patricia Grace HN220 01: Prevention and Crises Intervention 2 Although not
everyone that comes across a stressor in life will experience a crisis, some are
unable to cope with the stressor in a healthy manner and eventually succumb to a
crisis. If this person does not receive the adequate crisis intervention during this
state, he or she is likely to be unable to function at the level he or she had been
functioning before the crisis. This will inevitably lead to additional crisis scenarios
for every stressor they must face in life. This pattern can go on for many years until
the person s ego is completely drained of its capacity to deal with reality; often...

Substance abuse issues also need to be addressed and in that case, adequate
treatment would include detox and/or rehab services. Finally any medical
concerns that may have arisen are also of concern and should be dealt with
immediately. For instance, if since the event the client has become a hoarder or
compulsive sex addict, these issues must also be dealt with appropriately. There
are many methods of coping treatments available to your clients in today s day and
age. 4 Most traditional forms of coping treatments are those such as support groups
or 12 step groups, individual or family therapy, legal aid, or even reading self help
books. Preventative techniques of coping help the client prepare for future
stressors in their lives and thus help them to be more able to cope with these
stressors in a normal and healthy manner. I would most likely recommend the
client to meditate daily in order to remain calm. I would also tell them to envision
any stressors that can ever possibly arise and to already plan how they would react
to it. For instance, if a client is scared that their husband may need to have a
surgery performed, I would tell them to decide how they would deal with it if it
does happen. By doing so, they will already begin to face their demons and it will not
Sister Carrie Research Paper
During the 1900 s, many technological, militarial, and most importantly, economic
changes radically shaped America into its current modern state. The start of the
twentieth century drastically altered accepted conservative ideals and brought new
changes in people s statuses and attitudes. For example, in the 1920 s, flapper girls
who wore short skirts, sported bobbed hair, and disregarded accepted values of
proper women became the trend for women. Many movements started such as the
naturalist movement which promoted moving away from Victorian values. Theodore
Dreiser, an American novelist and journalist, was also a part of the naturalist
movement. As a result, he was inspired to write the novel Sister Carrie. Sister Carrie
is a third person
The Great Gatsby Love Analysis
In the classic story of The Great Gatsby, F. Scott Fitzgerald shows multiple times
that real love does not exist in the world. In the classical story by F. Scott
Fitzgerald, he shows many affairs go on in the story and that their is fake love in
the world. When this story was written it was coincidentally similar to his actual
real life. The characters life and problems were very similar to what was going on in
his life. In the book of Horst H. Kruse called F.Scott Fitzgerald at Work: The Making
of The Great Gatsby, he goes into detail of how the great and classical story of The
Great Gatsby was made and why he chose certain characters as they were and the
whole plot planning of the book. In the book of Kruse we discover that Fitzgerald...

F. Scott Fitzgerald had fallen in love with Ginevra King before Zelda Sayre but she
had also left F.Scott Fitzgerald because he was not wealthy and did not have fame.
Another way Fitzgerald shows that love does not exist in this cruel world is
shown here She only married you because I was poor and she was tired of waiting
for me. It was a terrible mistake, but in her heart she never loved any one except
me! (Fitzgerald 130). Daisy did love Gatsby for a short period of time until she
gave up on him and her love grew more with Gatsby s money, just as she married
tom for his wealth and fame. Also another example of this is in Fitzgerald s
personal life, Fitzgerald s had been divorced from his first wife may have had to
tell himself, the author s decision to fill the protagonist of his novel with his own
emotional life certainly accounts for the fervor of Gatsby s feelings and the
credibility of his quest. (F.Scott Fitzgerald at Work: The Making of The Great
Gatsby ). This quote shows that when Fitzgerald wrote the book The Great Gatsby
his intention was to use his own personal love life in the book and use himself as
one of the main protagonist in the story. Fitzgerald was Gatsby in the story because
just as Gatsby left for the army so did Fitzgerald and Zelda left him because of his

Allusions In The Rocking Horse Winner
The Rocking Horse Winner by D.H. Lawrence is a story about a little boy who is
neglected by his mom and desperately rides his horse in order to predict which
horse will be the next winner at the race track. He wins a lot of money for his
mother, hoping that it will earn her love; however, he is greatly mistaken. He ends up
riding his horseto exhaustion just to get more money and ends up dying. In The
Rocking Horse Winner Lawrence uses symbolism, a biblical allusion, and negative
characterization of the mother to explain the pursuit of money is a futile quest and
does not result in a happy ending.
D.H. Lawrence uses a symbolism to show the fruitlessness of the pursuit of
material wealth. The rocking horse can never move forward, no matter how much
Paul rides it. The horse can only rock back and forth, never making any progression
toward its end goal. The horse seems to have special abilities that Paul puts to use
to foresee the future; the consequences of Paul using these powers are revealed at
the end showing that it is a deal with the devil situation. Something huge, in violent,
hushed motion. Paul rigorously has to ride the horse. Soon after, he falls
unconscious and mutters the name of the next winning horse. The uncle after the
boy passes away compares the situation with the devil: poor devil, poor devil, he s
best gone out of a life where he rides his rocking horse to find a winner. Paul was so
desperate to try to win his mom s love that he would do anything
Comparing Cordasco s Ranch And The Babbitt Ranch
A writing that I enjoyed was Just Participate! , an interview with Billy Cordasco
about the Babbitt Ranches he worked on. This piece caught my attention due to its
cowboy nature, divulging the methods and tricks of the trade when it comes to
farming cattle.
Having lived in Hawaii my entire life I have been surrounded and involved with
farming, hunting, and ranching. I was subjected to the life of the Paniolo(Hawaiian
cowboys) at a very young age, two of my neighbors and good family friends were
involved with Parker ranch, a 250,000 acre ranch in the mountainous town of
Waimea. Parker ranch deals with a generous supply of livestock; primarily cattle
accompanied with smaller herds of sheep and horses. I ve been able to ride around
the ranch and observe the Paniolo herd cattle and perform simple daily tasks like
refilling troughs and cycling horses for grazing. Simply reading about Cordasco s
lifestyle and duties made me very reminiscent of the many days I spent on the
ranch, one very fond memory of mine was riding on the back of an atv while my
uncle drove to find a herd of cattle and perform a head count. ... Show more content

Parker ranch is in the middle of often luscious green grass at a high elevation where
it is very moist and fruitful, this being said there was little consideration for drought
conditions and what actions would be taken in such a case but recently conditions
have become drier. The Paniolo at Parker ranch would also hunt wild cattle that
graze near the outskirts of the ranch to supply large amounts of food for friends and
family without diminishing the herd that they care for. The Babbitt ranches were also
much larger and mainland ranches have quite a varied lifestyle when compared to
those of
Personal Statement In Population Biology
I have started my research with applied probability in theoretical population
biology and in statistical genetics during my PhD. However, during my
postdoctoral work at the Emory University I started working in a completely
different topic of developing HIV vaccine trial design and survival analysis. Soon
afterwards during the early days of my Assistant Professorship at Georgia State
University, I got exposed to an exciting field of researchmicroarray data analysis. I
found it to be fascinating to deal with thousands of genes at the same time. I wrote
my first NSF proposal and was successful in obtaining the fund. From then on, I have
always worked with high dimensional data in molecular biologyin genomics,

This paper is not only an important one computationally, but also has the potential
of modifying clinical protocol. In Datta et al. (BMC Bioinformatics, 2017) we
developed a novel statistical approach for identification of the master regulator
transcription factor using a permutation based test with a concordant statistic.
Additionally, we have a recently accepted on a meta analysis paper which combines
the results of many experiments on thousands of genes and combines the results to
provide a FDR control strategy. We have contributed significantly in developing
methods for reverse engineering gene, protein, lipid interaction network through
association scores based on partial least squared regression model. Additionally, we
developed nonparametric tests to perform differential network analysis in multiple
experimental conditions using RNA Seq count data and lipidomics data from mass
spectrometry (Kujala et al., 2015; 2017, Gill et al. 2012). I was also involved in
pure statistical research involving monotonic single index models and variable
selection and multiple imputations Wan et al. 2014 and 2017). Currently, I am
involved in developing methodology to identifying differentially expressed genes
using single cell RNA sequencing data. scRNA Seq data has tremendous opportunity
to study the expressions of genes at an individual cellular level. However, this type of
The Roaring Twenties
Roaring Twenties
As Canadians take a glance on the 1920s, it was a time period that was compacted
with happiness and tremendous misery. At the beginning of the twenties era,
Canadians experienced life as a celebration. It was an age filled with non stop
dancing, and tuning to the radio. This was a generation before the T.V. was
fabricated and so people listened to the radio for enjoyment and music. The twenties
was a time period that many Canadians remember as the Roaring Twenties . The
Roaring Twenties was a decade comprised mainly of improvements, in many aspects.
Due to this being said, roaring twenties should indeed deserve its name, because big
advances both scientific and technological were being implemented, the ideal women
we know now were starting to form, and last but not the least jazz music was being
introduced(a.k.a the Jazz Age ). And these were just some of the reasons, about why
the Roaring Twenties deserves it s nickname.
In the Roaring Twenties, technology mainly cars, really took a step forward. Before
the 1920 s, cars were not a fuss among middle class people. However, soldiers who
fought in WWI bought cars when they came back victorious from the war; causing
many people to deduce how easy it was to travel that way, and suddenly everyone
desired one. Cars gave people more free time and made their lives more accessible
and effortless (Henry Ford advertised the new model T, which was the primary
reason behind people purchasing cars). The number of
Ee Cummings Influences
Have you ever read one of E.E. Cummings s poems, and could you figure out what
is said? E.E. Cummings was born in Cambridge, Massecuites in 1894. He started
writing poetry as a young boy, and he also painted. He was influenced by the major
movements of his time, which were Cubism and Impressionism. E.E. Cummings
graduated from Harvard in 1917 just as the United States was entering World War I
.
E.E. Cummings joined the ambulance corps after his graduation and traveled to
Paris, France. While there he was exposed to the Paris arts scene, which helped
develop his unique style. E.E. Cummings used unusual spelling, spacing, and
punctuation to convey his unique visual and auditory techniques.
E.E. Cummings used visual techniques. He used these

While Althusser`s brand of modern structuralism can be seen as the focusing of social
inquiry on persistent deep structures that underlie human thought and culture
(Hallgrimsdottir 2013). The merging of Marxian ideals with the notion that human
action is shaped by deep structures has had a strong impact on Althusser s sociology,
this plurality of concepts only deepens the understanding of the social world.
The epitome of this theoretical dualism adopted by Althusser can be observed in
the relationship he develops between deep structures characteristic of modern
society and the concept of ideology. Ideology in its most basic definition is the
ideas that dominate a social group. Althusser along with other post Marxists posit
the notion of ideology as the imaginary relationship individuals have to their
material conditions of existence (Lemert 2010). This is a classic Marxist standpoint
as it presents the function of ideologies as an agent masking the exploitation of
lower classes of society. This ideology can be employed as a practice similar in
nature to religion or ethics, and can be used as a lens into the specific: social norms,
values, desires, and performances seen in a social context. These deep structures
Althusser mentions can range from the institution of the family to the organization of
the economy, and are then the primary determinants of all human action in a social
setting (Lemert 2010). These structures thusly are
Picture Frame History
Picture frames are a highly used product all around the world used to display
cherished memories for all to see in the household no matter if it is a dollar store
pick up or a 19th century antique. The difficulty of manufacturing a picture frame
depends on the detail put onto the frame. For the sake of the report, the picture frame
being manufactured was a basic picture frame; free of much detail. Due to this, the
manufacturing process length was significantly shorter than that of a high end
detailed picture frame.
The first step of the manufacturing process begins with selecting the material for the
basis of the frame, that being pine wood. Pine wood was used for the framework of
the picture frame as it was really cheap, light, and strong enough for the task at hand;
to hold and display the picture. The second ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

It may seem odd or different to admire and acclaim Folly, but there is a definite benefit to foolishness: the freedom to tell only factual information. In Praise of Folly, Erasmus put this independence to good use in repeating to the readers, a civilization significantly besmirched by mature worries, that a person is unable to serve both God and Mammon. He leveled over his irony by promising us that there is merit in being attacked by Folly (7), and closed with the recap that it s Folly and a woman who s been speaking (134), a renunciation that permitted him to be as brutal as he desired to be in his condemnation. This method is able to improve the best value of the cost function with a slight increase in the average time trials. This procedure is suitable for solving large scale and complex economic dispatch problems. In this report, IPSO algorithm is tested on three systems and experimental results are compared with other efficient methods. Simulation results demonstrate the efficiency of proposed algorithms for solving economic dispatching problems. Kaylee O Dwyer talks about the truth behind this popular film, American Teen. American Teen, directed by Nanette Burstein, is a documentary film set in a small town in Indiana. The film follows the lives of five high school teenagers through their final year of high school in a way that hasn t been perceived since The Breakfast Club . The film over exaggerates the problems, demands and complications the modern generations are facing today by combining candid footage with false, staged events. The goal is less to provide a slice of reality than it is to estimate a fictionalized version of that reality through the inclusion of re enactments, dramatisations, voice overs and other techniques, deceiving viewers into believing that what they re seeing is actually real. • 11. The Tenant Of Tenants And Landlords As it often happens, there may come a time when a manager of an apartment building (landlord) and a tenant argument rises up. These arguments can pop up over many different issues including lease agreement rights, responsibility for repairs to the property, rent, evictions, and more. It is unfortunate that not all tenants and landlords arguments can be settled by a simple conversation between both parties to the lease. While many people in the U.S. are homeowners a great many other people live as tenants in different types of rental residences. Even though tenants don t actually own their rental residences they do receive certain rights almost the same in some ways to ownership rights. Tenants of rental residences and their landlords also have responsibilities to each other, including residence repairs. Depending on the situation /event, a tenant or a landlord may be responsible for making repairs to the tenant s rental residence. Knowledge of state law is extremely important to both tenants and landlords. Managers of apartment buildings want to run a money making business and protect their investment. Tenants want to be happy in their rental homes and protect their rights. At the end of the day, managers of apartment buildings and people who occupy those rooms want to avoid legal hassles when it comes to rent, deposits, repairs, and other key issues. Let s take a look at Larry s and Roger s situation and figure out the best course of actions from both points of view.

Mothers sacrifice nine months of their life to give birth to their little bundle of happiness . Sometimes sacrifice is needed in order to obtain the greater good. In The Lotteryby Shirley Jackson and The ones who walk away from Omelas by Ursula Guin, the common theme is the idea of sacrifice. Readers can portray the theme by comparing and contrasting the difference between the societies, the innocents involved, and the sacrifice made. The societies play a major role in contrasting how people act when sacrifices need to be made. In The Lottery, the people do not question the lottery. In fact,... Tips For Buying The Right Golf Glove Tips for Buying the Right Golf Glove The golf glove is an important component in the whole golfing setup because it provides a tackier grip, which helps prevent club twisting when taking a swing or shot. Majority of golfers also wear gloves to protect their hands from blisters, calluses and elements such as the sun and rain. Golf gloves are made from three main types of material; synthetic, leather and hybrid material. A high quality leather glove promises ultimate comfort because it is soft and pliable while a glove made from synthetic material is more durable, flexible and cheap. Synthetic gloves are cheaper largely because they do not breathe as well as leather made gloves. Hybrid gloves, on the other hand, are mostly made from real and synthetic leather. Hybrid gloves are popular because they aptly combine the benefits of true leather and synthetic materials to guarantee comfort and firm grip. Because of increased competition, the best golf gloves are marketed with features and functionalities like premium Cabrera leather, excellent fit and use of micro vent material for enhanced breathability. The other types of golf gloves in the market include all weather gloves, thermal gloves and golf mitts. The challenge amateur and professional golfer s face when buying gloves is choosing a product that will work for them without compromising quality. • 15. Essay on Intrinsic versus Extrinsic Motivation Intrinsic versus Extrinsic Motivation Introduction The success of any business depends on the productivity and satisfaction of its employees. Employees need to be motivated to work. Motivation can be defined as the inner force that drives individuals to accomplish personal and organizational goals. Motivation can be either intrinsic or extrinsic. For an individual to be motivated in a work situation there must be a need, which the individual would have to perceive a possibility of satisfying through some reward. Intrinsic motivation stems from motivations that are inherent and arise from performing the task of the job itself, which the individual gets a feeling of either positive or negative motivation as a result of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Those that are intrinsically motivated have a bit of advantages over workers who are more predominantly extrinsically motivated. For instance, intrinsically motivated people work on job tasks because they find them enjoyable and interesting. Additionally, there is evidence showing that intrinsic motivation is positively correlated with learning, achievement, perception of competence and self efficacy. At the same time, it is negatively correlated with anxiety, depression, and frustration. An intrinsically motivated individual will be committed to his or her work to the extent to which the job inherently contains tasks that are inherently rewarding to him or her (Lei, 2010). Drawbacks of Intrinsic Motivation Although intrinsic motivation has numerous benefits, few drawbacks of intrinsic motivation should also be considered as well. An intense form of intrinsic motivation can reach to the point that employees can completely lose track of time and space, completely ignore authority and other important tasks, as well as not having enough time to learn or perform other essential tasks while learning and enjoying a particular academic activity. When performing an enjoyable task, a person can lose track of space or self awareness. Individuals motivated by intrinsic gratification seek an experience for itself, rather than for anticipated rewards. The process is considerably more important to them than the resulting product or outcome, which has them working often

INTRODUCTION Data itself is useless, until it is mined and transformed into a valuable source of knowledge discovery. Due to its conversion into useful information, data mining has become the leading source being used in many fields worldwide. Data mining is based on complex algorithms that allow for the segmentation of data to identify patterns and trends, detect anomalies, and predict the probability of various situational outcomes. Other studies, using twins, suggest that shared environmental effects are present in childhood and early adulthood, but are absent in late adulthood. The researchers mention that studying adopted children, who are usually brought into affluent and well functioning? Homes, show that they are not representative of the entire population. There are many more factors, when studying adopted siblings, and identical/fraternal twins that can lead to an overestimation or underestimation of the effects of either the shared environment or familial genetics. • 25. Ethical Issues in the Film Erin Brockovich The movie Erin Brockovich is based on actual events involving a corporate business called Pacific Gas Electric who knowingly endangering the health of residents and the water supply in the town of Hinkley. Erin is the mother of three children who is out of work. In the midst of her job search she got into an auto accident and was injured. Erin has an ethical and moral responsibility to feed her children so she forces her lawyer Ed Masry to give her a secretarial job after he failed to get her a settlement from the auto accident. Erin has difficulty fitting in at the firm, the other female co workers do not approve of her attire or her cleavage! The women in the office do not include Erin or help her out when she asks for assistance. Erin stumbles across a case file about real estate which confuses her because it contained medical records. She got curious about the case and asked permission from her boss to work on it. This is the first ethical issue that comes up because she is not a lawyer and should not investigate the case without the proper legal experience. During Erin s discovery of the facts of the case we begin to see the breakdown of the ethical values of PG E. The dramatization focuses on the deception that PG E has cast over the inhabitants of Hinkley, California. For years, the company has been polluting the environment with a known deadly toxin, Chromium six. The toxin seeped into natural underground water reservoirs then into the unsuspecting town

Around that time everyone had the World Cup fever, rooting for their country or other countries. For much of the beginning of my stay I sequestered myself in my room surrounded only by my electronic companions. By mid July I adapted to a daily routine of afternoon wake up, brunch, and returning back to my room to scroll through Instagram and check my Snapchat. The sun shined timidly through the windows as my little cousins finished up getting ready. We finally got loaded in the car by mid morning on a early August Saturday. The drive lasted two hours. I thought to myself how the peaches probably tasted really good And my appetite suddenly whetted. I grabbed the fruit

Wireless Sensor Networks And Technology Constraints Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) present universally and growing rapidly due to its unique features, such as their less weight, cheap, and wireless nature. However, due to its highly constrained computational and energy resources this network is exposed to numerous attacks that affect its security. So, it is important to address these security issues from the beginning of the system design. but, due to inherent resource and computing constraints, security in sensor networks poses diverse challenges than traditional network security so, designing security protocols for all layers in this kind of a network becomes an compelling need. In this paper, we studied several existing WSN security protocols and data link layer security algorithms, which ensures a safe communication link between neighboring nodes by supervising the medium access and handling the errors. The purpose of this paper is Not Only Studying and explaining the strength and limitations of the existing energy efficient security protocols of the data link layer but also and determine the crucial security requirements which should be taken into consideration for design of future of data link security protocols. I.INTRODUCTION Sensor network got tremendous focus due to its less cost and small size and which can be placed anywhere. A sensor network consists of number of sensor nodes dispersed in a specific geographical area. These sensor nodes communicate using wireless transceivers. These networks are widely used

The common ambition of activists of every kind has always been to represent the needs and injustices of the marginalized communities in question, and in doing so, to bring about change. Margaret Mead, a cultural anthropologist, and an outspoken feminist once said, never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed it s the only thing that ever has. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Much of the incentive to become an activist is to be a part of a movement; an integral cog in the changing of history. One indisputable benefit of social media is its ability to effectively inform millions of people at once; this is infinitely powerful. The interactive format of social networking invites individuals to educate themselves on an issue and then to contribute to it, all in under ten minutes. Despite its efficiency, the detriment of this system is that it perpetuates the idea that the signing of a change.org petition is all it takes to make a difference. Grassroots activism and petitioning, while absolutely fundamental parts of the pursuit of social justice are often only the inciting steps in the lengthy and usually complicated process of creating lasting change. In 2014, in the wake of the deaths of Michael Brown, Eric Garner, and Tamir Rice, to name just a few, an international movement protesting police brutality began with the hashtag #blacklivesmatter. The issue of racially induced police brutality became a relevant topic of debate in the presidential election that followed, and protests took place worldwide. This movement is winning a major battle in the war against racism and much of this success was owed to its sensational presence on social media. The Black Lives Matter movement is an example of social networking being an invaluable tool in spreading

The repetition of the lines how should I presume? and how should I begin? exemplify Prufrocks inability to commit and his overall pessimistic outlook. I should have been a pair of ragged claws scuttling across the floors of silent seas, (lines 73 74) these words are an allusion to the crab. This is significant not in the way the crab looks or its shape but in its direction of movement; instead of moving forwards like most animals, it moves sideways. When related to Prufrock it means that he really never goes anywhere he just sits there oscillating in his mind whether to go up to the ladies or not, but never actually goes forward and does it. This allowed for them to see what was being taught. It was also helpful that there were examples provided during the presentation to allow for a real life experiences in the workforce, making everything more relatable to each individual in its own unique way. There were also instances where trainees were asked questions and to engage them throughout the process of training. This would allow them to constantly think, especially when there were pop quizzes throughout. The Power Of Nature In Frankenstein Frankenstein by Mary Shelley explores the fight between man and nature through the story of eager scientist Victor Frankenstein, who artificially creates life from the body parts of the deceased with disastrous consequences. By highlighting the intense power of nature, Shelley comments on the folly of attempting to subjugate nature to bend to one s will. The first significant mention of the power of nature comes as Victor recalls seeing lightning strike a tree in his childhood. On a sudden I beheld a stream of fire issue from an old and beautiful oak which stood about 20 yards from our house; and so soon as the dazzling light vanished the oak had disappeared (Shelley 38). Shelley highlights the tree s age specifically, immediately before revealing its destruction. By showing the ability of lightning to strike down something which has stood the tests of time, she shows the ability of nature to cause massive destruction which even rugged trees cannot withstand. Even Victor seems awed by the might of the storm, calling the lightning dazzling . In many ways, this event foreshadows Victor s own demise. To bring his creature to life, he imbues it with energy similar to that of lightning both, presumably, are electricity and from that energy comes the monstrosity that is his creature. Even as the lightning is shown to destroy, Victor uses it to create, ultimately bringing into the world an unnatural creature. By juxtaposing the lightning s destruction of the tree with Victor s

In the case of the group being studied for behavioral changes, the dependent variable focuses on the groups eating habits and the independent variable is the actual treatment that impacts the dependent variable. To further target the issue of the dependent variable, the researcher can monitor the variable in terms of duration, latency, and ratio (Renfro Michel et al., 2010). For instance, how many words can a student type while he is in class? How long does it take for him to type those words? Scott Fitzgerald had fallen in love with Ginevra King before Zelda Sayre but she had also left F.Scott Fitzgerald because he was not wealthy and did not have fame. Another way Fitzgerald shows that love does not exist in this cruel world is shown here She only married you because I was poor and she was tired of waiting for me. It was a terrible mistake, but in her heart she never loved any one except me! (Fitzgerald 130). Daisy did love Gatsby for a short period of time until she gave up on him and her love grew more with Gatsby s money, just as she married tom for his wealth and fame. Also another example of this is in Fitzgerald s personal life, Fitzgerald s had been divorced from his first wife may have had to tell himself, the author s decision to fill the protagonist of his novel with his own emotional life certainly accounts for the fervor of Gatsby s feelings and the credibility of his quest. (F.Scott Fitzgerald at Work: The Making of The Great Gatsby ). This quote shows that when Fitzgerald wrote the book The Great Gatsby his intention was to use his own personal love life in the book and use himself as one of the main protagonist in the story. Fitzgerald was Gatsby in the story because just as Gatsby left for the army so did Fitzgerald and Zelda left him because of his parting and once

Lawrence is a story about a little boy who is neglected by his mom and desperately rides his horse in order to predict which horse will be the next winner at the race track. He wins a lot of money for his mother, hoping that it will earn her love; however, he is greatly mistaken. He ends up riding his horseto exhaustion just to get more money and ends up dying. In The Rocking Horse Winner Lawrence uses symbolism, a biblical allusion, and negative characterization of the mother to explain the pursuit of money is a futile quest and does not result in a happy ending. D.H. Lawrence uses a symbolism to show the fruitlessness of the pursuit of material wealth. The rocking horse can never move forward, no matter how much Paul rides it. The horse can only rock back and forth, never making any progression toward its end goal. The horse seems to have special abilities that Paul puts to use to foresee the future; the consequences of Paul using these powers are revealed at the end showing that it is a deal with the devil situation. Something huge, in violent, hushed motion. Paul rigorously has to ride the horse. Soon after, he falls unconscious and mutters the name of the next winning horse. The uncle after the boy passes away compares the situation with the devil: poor devil, poor devil, he s best gone out of a life where he rides his rocking horse to find a winner. Paul was so desperate to try to win his mom s love that he would do anything
  • 47. Comparing Cordasco s Ranch And The Babbitt Ranch A writing that I enjoyed was Just Participate! , an interview with Billy Cordasco about the Babbitt Ranches he worked on. This piece caught my attention due to its cowboy nature, divulging the methods and tricks of the trade when it comes to farming cattle. Having lived in Hawaii my entire life I have been surrounded and involved with farming, hunting, and ranching. I was subjected to the life of the Paniolo(Hawaiian cowboys) at a very young age, two of my neighbors and good family friends were involved with Parker ranch, a 250,000 acre ranch in the mountainous town of Waimea. Parker ranch deals with a generous supply of livestock; primarily cattle accompanied with smaller herds of sheep and horses. I ve been able to ride around the ranch and observe the Paniolo herd cattle and perform simple daily tasks like refilling troughs and cycling horses for grazing. Simply reading about Cordasco s lifestyle and duties made me very reminiscent of the many days I spent on the ranch, one very fond memory of mine was riding on the back of an atv while my uncle drove to find a herd of cattle and perform a head count. ... Parker ranch is in the middle of often luscious green grass at a high elevation where it is very moist and fruitful, this being said there was little consideration for drought conditions and what actions would be taken in such a case but recently conditions have become drier. The Paniolo at Parker ranch would also hunt wild cattle that graze near the outskirts of the ranch to supply large amounts of food for friends and family without diminishing the herd that they care for. The Babbitt ranches were also much larger and mainland ranches have quite a varied lifestyle when compared to those of

However, during my postdoctoral work at the Emory University I started working in a completely different topic of developing HIV vaccine trial design and survival analysis. Soon afterwards during the early days of my Assistant Professorship at Georgia State University, I got exposed to an exciting field of researchmicroarray data analysis. I found it to be fascinating to deal with thousands of genes at the same time. I wrote my first NSF proposal and was successful in obtaining the fund. This paper is not only an important one computationally, but also has the potential of modifying clinical protocol. In Datta et al. (BMC Bioinformatics, 2017) we developed a novel statistical approach for identification of the master regulator transcription factor using a permutation based test with a concordant statistic. Additionally, we have a recently accepted on a meta analysis paper which combines the results of many experiments on thousands of genes and combines the results to provide a FDR control strategy. We have contributed significantly in developing methods for reverse engineering gene, protein, lipid interaction network through association scores based on partial least squared regression model. Additionally, we developed nonparametric tests to perform differential network analysis in multiple experimental conditions using RNA Seq count data and lipidomics data from mass spectrometry (Kujala et al., 2015; 2017, Gill et al. 2012). I was also involved in pure statistical research involving monotonic single index models and variable selection and multiple imputations Wan et al. 2014 and 2017). Currently, I am involved in developing methodology to identifying differentially expressed genes using single cell RNA sequencing data. scRNA Seq data has tremendous opportunity to study the expressions of genes at an individual cellular level. At the beginning of the twenties era, Canadians experienced life as a celebration. It was an age filled with non stop dancing, and tuning to the radio. This was a generation before the T.V. was fabricated and so people listened to the radio for enjoyment and music. The twenties was a time period that many Canadians remember as the Roaring Twenties . The Roaring Twenties was a decade comprised mainly of improvements, in many aspects. Due to this being said, roaring twenties should indeed deserve its name, because big advances both scientific and technological were being implemented, the ideal women we know now were starting to form, and last but not the least jazz music was being introduced(a.k.a the Jazz Age ). And these were just some of the reasons, about why the Roaring Twenties deserves it s nickname. In the Roaring Twenties, technology mainly cars, really took a step forward. Before the 1920 s, cars were not a fuss among middle class people. However, soldiers who fought in WWI bought cars when they came back victorious from the war; causing many people to deduce how easy it was to travel that way, and suddenly everyone desired one. Cars gave people more free time and made their lives more accessible and effortless (Henry Ford advertised the new model T, which was the primary reason behind people purchasing cars). The number of

While Althusser`s brand of modern structuralism can be seen as the focusing of social inquiry on persistent deep structures that underlie human thought and culture (Hallgrimsdottir 2013). The merging of Marxian ideals with the notion that human action is shaped by deep structures has had a strong impact on Althusser s sociology, this plurality of concepts only deepens the understanding of the social world. The epitome of this theoretical dualism adopted by Althusser can be observed in the relationship he develops between deep structures characteristic of modern society and the concept of ideology. Ideology in its most basic definition is the ideas that dominate a social group. Althusser along with other post Marxists posit the notion of ideology as the imaginary relationship individuals have to their material conditions of existence (Lemert 2010). This is a classic Marxist standpoint as it presents the function of ideologies as an agent masking the exploitation of lower classes of society. This ideology can be employed as a practice similar in nature to religion or ethics, and can be used as a lens into the specific: social norms, values, desires, and performances seen in a social context. These deep structures Althusser mentions can range from the institution of the family to the organization of the economy, and are then the primary determinants of all human action in a social setting (Lemert 2010). These structures thusly are
