Academic Goals Essay
Writing an essay on the subject of academic goals can be both challenging and rewarding. The
difficulty lies in the need to strike a balance between personal aspirations and the expectations of
the academic environment. Crafting a compelling narrative that effectively communicates your
educational ambitions, career objectives, and the steps you plan to take to achieve them requires
thoughtful reflection and articulate expression.
One of the challenges is articulating your goals in a way that resonates with the intended
audience, whether it be an admissions committee or a professor. It demands a deep
understanding of your own motivations and a clear vision of how your academic pursuits align
with your broader life objectives. The essay must not only convey your passion for learning but
also demonstrate a well-thought-out plan for academic success.
Additionally, maintaining a sense of individuality and authenticity is crucial. While there may be
common themes in academic goal essays, the challenge lies in presenting your unique
experiences, skills, and perspectives that set you apart from other candidates. Striking this
balance requires careful consideration of your personal journey and a thoughtful portrayal of
your distinct qualities.
Moreover, organizing the essay coherently can be challenging. It's important to structure your
thoughts in a logical sequence, starting with an engaging introduction, followed by a clear
presentation of your goals, and concluding with a strong summary that leaves a lasting
impression. Ensuring a smooth flow while addressing all the necessary components can be a
meticulous task.
In conclusion, writing an essay on academic goals demands a combination of self-awareness,
strategic thinking, and effective communication skills. While it can be a challenging process, the
opportunity to reflect on one's aspirations and articulate them coherently can be a valuable
exercise. Despite the challenges, it's a task that allows individuals to showcase their potential
and commitment to academic success.

MANAGING COST IN A COMPETITIVE ENVIRONMENT
The global financial crisis that started in mid 2008 affected many industries,
including the aviation industry. Fewer business and leisure travelers were flying due
to the economic recession. Corporations and government agencies issued orders, as
part of an austerity drive, for less travel or, when absolutely necessary for their
senior employees, for economy class travel. This became an opportunity for
The Collapse Of The Space Shuttle Before Columbia
In the year of 2003, on February 1, a tragic accident had occurred in the atmosphere
above Texas as the space shuttle called Columbia was on it s way to land at the
Kennedy Space Center. The shuttle itself was on its 28th mission and was just one of
the five space shuttles that was used amongst NASA. But on this particular day, it
wasn t like the rest because astronauts are supposed to return home safely; that s not
what happened on this day. There were seven astronauts that were inside the shuttle.
Their names were Rick Husband, David Brown, Michael Anderson, Laurel Clark,
William McCool, Kalpana Chawla, and Ilan Ramon. They had all died in an
explosion within the shuttle itself.
NASA was trying to figure out how this could ve happened. They ran through
many possibilities of what could ve gone wrong and they came to the conclusion
that the reason the shuttle had exploded when coming through the atmosphere was
because a chunk of foam hilt a wing of the craft. This was suspected to be the
reason when tape was analyzed of the takeoff before Columbia went into space.
NASA wanted to know if it was the real reason but didn t want anyone else to know
of the issues besides them. The Department of Defense had asked permission from
the people working for NASA to use orbital spy cameras to analyze the problem.
But NASA had said no to their offer and went on to analyze and check the disaster
for themselves so that they knew what the problem was. They call this a common
check .

Hippolytus writes:
Now then, incline thine ear to me and hear my words, and give heed, thou Jew. Many
a time does thou boast thyself, in that thou didst condemn Jesus of Nazareth to death,
and didst give him vinegar and gall to drink; and thou dost vaunt thyself because of
this. Come, therefore, and let us consider together whether perchance thou dost boast
unrighteously, O, Israel, and whether thou small portion of vinegar and gall has not
brought down this fearful threatening upon thee and whether this is not the cause of
thy present condition involved in these myriad of troubles.5
As the Church came into power in the fourth century, it turned on the synagogues
with even greater intensity. Jewish civil and religious status was deteriorating,
thanks to the influence the bishops had in the political arena. Laws were passed
making it a capital offense for any Jew to make a convert, they were excluded from
various professions, denied all civil honors, and their autonomy of worship was being
threatened. In every way, they were being discriminated against. Christians felt that
this growing evidence now supported their belief in divine punishment.

William Howard Taft Achievements
William Howard Taft was born on September 15, 1857 in Cincinnati, Ohio. He was
born into a large family of five siblings two of which were from his father s first
marriage. Taft s father was deeply involved in politics by the time he was born,
serving as both secretary of war and attorney general for President Ulysses S. Grant.
Taft s mother, Louisa Taft, was a powerful women s rights activist. Her adventurous
character and intelligence swept the familyalong at a rapid pace. At a young age, Taft
developed a fear of disappointing his accomplished parents. Taft s infamous
fluctuating weight is often contributed to these family stresses and anxieties.

Progressives, keen on attacking Taft for non progressive ways, fail to credit him
with cracking more trust busting cases than Roosevelt. Taft created the eight hour
work day for government employees, and supported the Sixteenth Amendment by
reinstating the income tax. He threw the first pitch of the baseball season opener,
creating the presidential tradition. Helen planted the first saplings of the famous
Japanese cherry trees with the Japanese ambassador s wife. More humorously, Taft
owned the first presidential car and the largest bathtub. Overall, Taft as a person is
remembered as simple, honest, and civilized. Taft s own view of the presidency is
simply stated in this quote: I don t remember that I was ever President. It was never
Taft s goal to become President, but Taft carried through honorably.
After he left office, former President Taft went back to his passion: law. He taught
for over eight years as a professor of law at Yale University. When President
Harding appointed Taft to be the ninth Chief Justice of the US in 1921, his dream
was finally fulfilled. Taft served as chief justice until his death leaving behind him a

On 21 April 2014 the UK government published its response to the Department for
Business, Innovation Skills (BIS) paper on Transparency Trust: Enhancing the
transparency of UK company ownership and increasing trust in UK business , a
paper aimed at enhancing the transparency of UK company ownership and increase
trust in UK business. Following this, in March 2015, the UK Parliament passed into
law the Small Business, Enterprise and Employment Act 2015 (SBEE) which takes
into account the FATF Guidance on Transparency of Beneficial Ownership to
enhance the transparency of Legal Persons and Legal arrangements.
Summary of certain reforms introduced by the SBEE Act
Numerous reforms that were introduced for UK companies as part of this Act
included but was not limited to:

maintaining a register of those persons. These registers would need to be made
available and searchable to the public.
The SBEE Act12 will require UK companies are required to update their qualifying

rights of the company or an individual who otherwise exercise control over the

indicates a 20% decrease. $11,898 million was reported for 2017 and is a decrease
of 30% form 2016. Increases in current assets for Gilead decreased the cash flow
from operating activities relative to net income. Investing activities of $12,475
million increased from 2015 to $16,069 in 2017, which is an increase of 29%. This
increase reflects the acquisitions Gilead obtained to expand its pipeline in the
biotechnology industry and to stay ahead of the competition. Financing activities
increased from 2015 to 2016 and decreased from 2016 to 2017. The increase
between 2015 and 2016 was 65% and was mainly due to repurchases in common

Creative Writing On Nursing Home
The Bright Spot in My Day One morning bright and early, I went to the nursing
home near my home to do a community service project. The plan was for me to
meet Ms. Clara Mae who is a resident there. My expectations for the day were not
the best, I dreaded the smell of being in a nursing home. As I approached room 406, I
noticed a faint lemonsmell that floated around the hall. I cautiously tapped on her
wooden door and noticed a festive, fall wreath hanging crookedly by her mailbox.
Ms. Clara Mae? A small tinkling voice called out, Come in! As I entered her room, I
noticed lemon yellowcurtains hanging in the window with a yellow and white quilt
on her bed with butterflies stitched on it. At first, I did not see her. She... Show more

This lady is a jewel! With that we became friends. She asked about my family and
we talked about hers. She asked about my school, and we talked about where she
went. Soon, it was time for me to go and I could not believe that the time had flown
by. Ms. Clara Mae seemed sleepy and tired and she told me that she normally took a
nap before lunch. That was my cue that I must move on to visit the other residents in
the activity/recreation area. The scent of lemon wafted over to me once again, and I
realized that she had an air freshener plug in the wall nearest the window. Evidently,
she did not like the smell of nursing homes either. It suddenly hit me that she could
be me in the future! She had a similar story like me, she liked some of the same
things I did, and she had a great sense of humor. All Ms. Clara Mae needed was
someone to listen to her and a little companionship. I had learned that her family no
longer visited her anymore and the only people that saw her on a routine basis was
a group that came from a church once a month. How sad! I felt connected to her
and it crushed me to leave her. She seemed to understand and reassured me that she
knew I was busy and had lots of things to do. As I stood to walk out of the yellow
room, with the one plant and no electronics, I made a pledge that I would try to be
someone that she could rely on to come visit. Then I sadly realized that I would not
have the opportunity to see her again until

Lost in translation Essay
Lost In Translation
Lost In Translation is one of those movies that seek to be something having
something extra something that is more than a regular movie. Moreover, it does so
effectively without being pretentious, all through the movie it does not seem like it is
trying too hard to be something other than what is there. It is skillfully written, well
directed and it boasts of a solid cast not very spectacular but full of good actors.
Jointly, this eventually results in an enjoyable and interesting movie. The important
thing is that it has a message to it. Bill Murray and Scarlett Johansson play two

Johansson plays Charlotte; whose husband John is a photographer on assignment in
Tokyo. She visits a shrine and then calls a friend in America to say, quot;I didn t feel

The movie could have degenerated into a love affair between two lost souls but
quot;Lost in Translation quot; is too elegant and considerate to be the kind of movie
where they go to bed and the viewer is supposed to believe that as a reaction against
the problems that they have. They share something as private as their feelings rather
than something as common as their bodies.
Murray is trapped, but reconciled to being stuck. Marriage is not uncomplicated
for him, and his wife s voice over the phone seems to go on and on. Nevertheless,
he loves his children. He is very weary, he is doing the commercials for money and
detests himself for it, he has a sense of humor and can be funny but he is not up to it.
She on the other hand has been married only a couple of years, but it is clear that
her husband thinks she is encroaching on his work and life. Full with his own

The Vampire Chronicles Vs. Twilight Saga
The Vampire Chronicles vs The Twilight Saga Do you prefer The Vampire
Chronicles by Anne Rice or The Twilight Saga by Stephenie Meyer? This question
can lead into a huge argument due to the opinions of who answers the question. A
person can guess the answer by the age of the people. The older generation would
suggest The Vampire Chronicles because it tells the tale of the true vampires, such as
the human blood suckers that only comes out at night. While the younger generation
would suggest The TwilightSaga because it shows that vampires can be like regular
people. Although there are some major differences between The Vampire
Chronicles and The Twilight Saga, the similarities are shocking. For people who
forgot or don t know about these two novels, these novels are about the lives of
vampires. The Vampire Chronicles (1976 2003) is by Anne Rice. Her novels are
series that tells the story of a French nobleman named Lestate de Lioncourt who
transformed into a vampire in the eighteenth century. The other novel series, The
Twilight Saga, is by Stephenie Meyer. Her novel series tells a story of a young
ordinary female, Bella Swan, who falls in love with a vampire named Edward Cullen.
Both of these novel series has turned into the big screen including Interview with a

Paradise Lost Analysis
John Milton s epic poem Paradise Lost tells many stories that include Satan s
expulsion from Heaven, his ultimate success in tempting Adam and Eve, and even the
story of God s Son ultimately punishing everyone. These numerous stories do not just
tell the story of the characters but the stories also include the settings where these
events took place. Recreating the universe Milton describes in Paradise Lostis not just
an adventure but it also tells us the type of world he lived in at the time he lived.
While his world was imagined, he still had to use his real world as a source for his
imaginings.

In Book II, the innermost region of Hell is a frozen continent (587) (Kuby 184).
Milton s Hell is coldest in its innermost area: deep snow and ice (Kuby 184). In
Book I, it made clear that God did not give Hell light but rather darkness visible
(Fletcher 156) . When recreating Hell, it was imperative to ensure that no light was
present but there was some type of visibility so that its inhabitants can discover the
sights of woe (Fletcher 156) .
In the model, the Southern region which was Hell was painted black to convey the
darkness that was intended. It also conveys the burnt soil that Satan walks on
when he goes to the beach to speak to his fallen angels (Fletcher 167). The
emptiness of Hell in the model represents not just the bleakness but the hot and dry
climate that Hell would have possessed. However, the blue lights that have been
installed were to show not just the sights of woe but it also was to indicate Hell s
design. The poem states that It is voyd of light, / Save what the glimmering of these
livid flames (Fletcher 159).
Also in the model, the location of Hell has also been carved out of the material.
This is to achieve the bowl like nature it was described as having. Milton writes that
Hell is A Dungeon horrible, on all sides round (Fletcher 156). In other words, Hell is
a pit of darkness and despair. This is the opposite of Heaven which is described later
in the poem.

Why Did Ancient Art Man Use Animals To Depict Their
Deities
I have a few theories as to why ancient man used animals to depict their deities.
First I ll start with Prehistoric Art. As far back as 30,000 B.C.E. man created
pictures of nature. From paintings on cave walls to sculptures carved of rock from
within the cave, prehistoric man paid tribute by creating art in the form of animals
such as bulls, bison, horses, bears, and even felines. To these people these animals
were a life source. Not only as food but for warmth, weapons and tools. By
worshipping these creatures with art man believed they were showing gratitude
therefore ensuring more animals would come. As seen with the Wounded Bison at
the Cave of Altamira in Northern Spain, these bison were painted on the cave
ceiling. Man noticed the bulges in the rock and chose to paint the creature it
resembles most even though it may have been difficult to reach. As though it was a
calling of a higher power, man would build scaffoldings against the walls to allow
themselves better access to their canvas. With the Egyptians their... Show more

With these visual representations for their gods and Pharaohs it s easy to believe
that the people of Egypt lived in fear. For breaking Pharaohs laws would enact the
wrath of the gods bringing famine, floods, or drought. In this picture of the Palette
of King Narmer, the Pharaoh is depicted as larger than the other people in the
relief. This size difference was to establish the authority and power of the king. On
one side of the Palette, King Narmer holds a fallen enemy by the hair, as he raises
his mace an emblem of kingship with the other hand. On the other side of the Palette,
Narmer appears in the highest register now wearing the red crown of Lower Egypt.

Waterproofing paint is an acrylic recipe that doesn t actually waterproof, however, it
will forestall minor leakage, and it gives a dampness barrier by anticipating

Abnormal Behavior Essays
Abnormal behavior was once viewed as an embarrassment to society. Those who
suffered from a mental illness or displayed abnormal behavior were locked away
and never spoken of. Today abnormal behavior is viewed much differently. With the
study of psychology and the help of the medical field, abnormal behavior has
become better understood. This essay will discuss the major theories for the cause
of abnormal behavior, how abnormal behavior is diagnosed and what type of
behavioral issues are related to abnormal behavior. Abnormal behavior is defined as a
psychological dysfunction within an individual associated with distress or
impairment in functioning and response that is not typical or culturally expected

It appears, however, that one single gene is not solely responsible for a particular
behavior. Instead it seems to take many genes that are combined together to produce
both functional and dysfunctional behaviors. The second perspective is the
psychodynamic perspective. The psychodynamic perspective emphasizes how the
role of early childhood experiences, the unconscious mind and interpersonal
relationships play a part in abnormal behavior. This perspective evolved from
Sigmund Freud s psychoanalytical theory which generally contended that
psychological disorders are the outcome of anxiety which is produced by
unresolved, unconscious conflicts. The third perspective is the behavioral
perspective. The basis of the behavioral perspective suggests that all behaviors are
learned. This perspective was developed partially because some psychologists did
not agree with Freud s ideas. Many of these psychologists believed that Freud s
theory could be explained much more simplistically. This is why the behavioral

Biology 156 3T1 Abstract
This lab deals with the transpiration rates in plants, specifically a tomato plant that
was used for this experiment. Transpiration is when water leaves a plant through the
stomata as water vapor while the stomata is capturing CO2 for photosynthesis. This
experiment used three different scenarios: a tomato plant with a light shining on it, a
tomato plant with wind blowing on it from a fan, and lastly a tomato plant with
nothing acting on it. The hypothesis is that the rate of transpiration will be fastest
with light, faster with wind, and slow with the control. This hypothesis was rejected
because the rate of transpiration is as follows with the wind having the fastest rate:
with light the rate was 7.60 mm/min, with wind 10.20 mm/min, and control 4.33 mm
/min. The cause of the wind having a faster transpiration rate than the light may have
been due to the surface area of the leaves on the tomato plants. The surface area of the
leaves for the wind experiment is 8,124mm2, and for the light is 7,740mm2.By doing
this transpiration experiment it helps one to see what happens in plants daily and
understand why it happens. Introduction
What is transpiration? Transpiration is when a plant absorbs water in its roots and
the root pressure becomes high causing the plant to release the excess water as water
vapor
Difference Between Modernist Drama And Realist Drama
This essay aims to show and discuss the ways in which modernist drama is
different to realist drama. To do this the essay will focus on the conventions of
language and subject identity to show how modernist drama challenges the ways of
realist drama. This essay will first outline what modernism is. It will then look at the
conventions of both language and subject identity separately, providing examples
where needed. Finally, the essay will look at Pirandello s play and discuss how it
relates to the modernist dramastyle before concluding.
When something is considered contemporary or in style, it is considered to be
modern. From the late 18th century to the early 19th century there was a shift in
history. There was a rise in capitalist societies and an increase in industrial
productivity. This created the start of modernity. Macey (2001) refers to modernity
as the period of the modern. The changes in the world demanded a response from
art. All forms of art had to create a new way of thought for this new world. This is
how modernism or the modernist ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the play Krapp s Last Tape by Beckett (1958) language is delivered to the
audience in a new way. The use of a tape recorder changes the way time in a play
works. One can say that Beckett found a way to loophole the fact that play s
cannot have flashbacks. Krapp listens to his younger self on his tape recorder and
finds that some of the language used was now meaningless to his older self. This
shows that language is contextual. The language used in the stage directions are
quite unusual such as rusty black and wearish old man. While one can visualise
what these words mean, there is no standard definition for the words. In a play by
Pinter (1985) called The Birthday Party the characters often have meaningless or
vague conversations. In the first act Meg repeatedly asked Petey, Is that you? This

The concern for the technical gamble in development of the new 787 aircraft blinded
the senior company managers to key outsourcing and coordination issues. With more
than 70 percent of the aircraft manufactured, assembled, and shipped from foreign

If the public sees that a company is not consistent on deadlines the public will begin
to distrust that company. After careful consideration, we have determined that the
best possible options would be to minimize outsourcing at this time, especially dealing
with key components. In addition, it is strongly recommended to hire more trusted
management with experience and communication skills and place them in the key
problem areas so that productivity is increased and the functions stay consistent and
on time.
In regards to minimizing outsourcing, this is the better option due to the increased
benefit key components of the aircraft built in one centralized location provide and
allows top managers can keep track of the progress. Minimizing outsourcing to just
non essential components can synchronize the company s assembly time and helps
keep all the main components on similar schedules, which can help with uniformity.
Another option they can explore would be to add quality assurance managerial
position where their key components are being manufactured. Adding key quality
control managers with critical communication skill to manage and keep product on
time with projects would help correlate deadlines, so that Boeing can stay on time
and not have delays. This would also create more jobs, which is beneficial to the
community as

3.5 Methods of Selection for the most Senior and Junior Positions Methods of
Selection: We will take after two techniques for selecting the most senior and junior
representative. Those are: 1.Structured meeting: An organized meeting, once in a

calendar by a questioner. The point is for all interviewees to be given precisely the
same setting of addressing. This implies that every respondent got precisely the same
meeting boost as whatever other. Questioners should read out inquiries precisely and

Personal or Character References: Personal articulations from companions or

Work Experience: Descriptions gave by past managers. d. Certificates of Service:
Factual data about past business. In the wake of looking at all these things, we will
at last select one individual to be named for the most senior post. * Selection
strategy for the most junior post: For the most junior post will mastermind an
unstructured meeting. Our most junior representative will be part clock, so we are
considering to be a touch casual with them for knowing them more as an individual
than a worker. We will center to know their own

Social Theory And Social Judgement Theory
Abstract
The topic to be discussed here is one of the social sciences based on the theories
Groupthink and Social Judgement Theory. I will propose a study to analyze the
relationship between the number of hours of media an individual receives and its
effects on his or her voting behavior. The participants of this proposed study will be
registered voters between the ages of eighteen and seventy and residents of the United
States of America. The primary method of collecting data will be through surveys.
Once the data has been, collected a multiple regression will be constructed. Please
note, the terms person, individual, subject, and voter are used interchangeably
throughout the document.
Introduction
This document discusses a proposed study that analyzes a person s media exposure
and how that effects his or her voting behaviors. Throughout this document I will
discuss the theories associated with the proposed study as well as how this study
could impact the theories and everyday life that the theories are based upon.
Associated Theories
The proposed study is based upon two theories: Groupthink and Social Judgement
Theory.
Groupthink can be described as a phenomena that causes a group of people to become
so extremely concerned with unanimity that each person makes decisions without
considering all of his or her options. This type of phenomena tends to hold a negative
connotation because the thought process associated with the theory causes people to
fall to peer
Bad Blood or Just New Blood

Bastille s Bad Blood can be addicting even though individuals respond differently to
the same type of music. We sometimes hear it at various places we go to. It
surrounds us and is a fundamental part of our lives. You cannot escape it. Music is
part of our lives . Music is transmitted in different ways like someone who is trying
to get a message through, or it can just be an expression of ones ideas and the
overflow of emotions. That being implied remembering the Beatles of the 60 s had
the same effect on individuals, and why this happens is somewhat of a mystery with

The album seems to be a repeat of the same catchy tunes from the first album Bad
Blood but with some additional songs added to it. Best to buy the second Album
unless you re a collector, and just hope that future additional albums have newer
original songs on them. If this is a sign of what is to come with this group then
their fame may be short lived once the catchy tune where off. When you listen to
the album Bad Blood the rhythm is catchy kind of humdrum and simple in ways
with all the songs though the lyrics are different. Lyrics alone cannot support
success. Bastille has its sights set on bigger things. Bad Blood is a sometimes
catchy but ultimately fairly brittle album, and Mr. Smith is a singer with character
in his voice but without much power . (Caramanica 2014) Sadly, Smith s own
writing takes a downward turn. Where the mix tapes are eclectic, intricately woven
pieces, his material lacks the same creative flare. Too often Smith relies on the
same chord sequences, the same dramatic production, the same vocal melodies and
riffs. Individually the tracks are exciting and novel, but once the musical style is
established Bad Blood is far too safe. Smith s voice is missing dynamic range,
resulting in an album that collectively falls flat. It s a problem that s only
exacerbated on the extended cut. Bad Blood is desperately in need of a good trim,
more variety and a tighter focus. What s so disappointing is Bastille s potential. The

Biography Of Irving Penn And Diane Arbus
Before photography was considered a medium of personal art, it was used for the
sole purpose of portraiture. Carte de visites, daguerreotypes, and even tintypes
were all used as a way to convey a person s physical appearance into a print. As
camera technology evolved, so to did the way photographers take portraits. It
skipped from a stale faced man behind a backdrop to colorful and interesting
photographs taken of people from all walks of life. Three of the innovators of
modern portraiture are Robert Mapplethorpe, Irving Penn and Diane Arbus. These
photographers changed the public appearance or ordinary people and celebities
while integrating their own original ideas. Irving Penn was born in New Jersey in
1917, he went to school to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The style of his portraits adds to and even sometimes surpasses the fashion shown.
While Penn shot for vogue, he also strayed away from fashion some of the time to
focus on influential figures with the same style of the fashion portraits he took in
the past. A series of his that is very influential is his corner portraits from the late
1940s, where he took portraits of different individuals all standing in a very
claustrophobic corner, almost making them seem less important than their influence
states. Some examples of this include portraits of Marchel Duchamp and Georgie
O Keeffe: Two very prominent painters are photographed cut off from the work of
art, seemingly stuck in a gray walled room with no artistic fervor anywhere to be
seen. The photographs are bleak, but offer a sense of distance from the audience,
enough to show these famous individuals as humans. Penn creates beauty through
humanity, with or without the help of fashion his portraits convey truly an unhinged
reality of fashion and art, unseen by the general public. Robert Mapplethorpe s
portraits are probably the most dissimilar from Irving Penn s in terms of style and
subject, but his photographs use the same ideas of beauty. Mapplethorpe was born in
Queens, NY in 1946, and studied at the Pratt Institute in Brooklyn before dropping
out to live in New York full time
The Central Bank For The United States
Blah blah blah something about an article I find. The federal reserve in simple
terms is the central bank for the United States. In a more in depth description of the
the Fed it is made up of the Board of Governors. This board is made up of seven
members, all selected by the President himself. However, they also need to be
confirmed by the Senate. This board is located in Washington D.C. but has 12
regional banks around the country. Some of these places include San Francisco,
Philadelphia, Minneapolis, and nine other locations. These banks allow the Federal
Reserve to collect data on the current economy. Obtaining this information allows the
Federal Reserve to gauge the economy and create an appropriate monetary policy.

So, making the discount rate lower will allow the banks to have a lower interest
rate, encouraging spending and borrowing. On the opposite of this if the interest
rates were higher than this would discourage the spending and loans. The second
of the three major tools that The Fed uses would be reserve requirements.
According to the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis reserve requirements are the
portions of deposits that banks must hold in cash, either in their vaults or on
deposit at a Reserve Bank (In plain English, 2017, p.15). This works by by
determining how much money is needed in the bank at any given time. This would
mean that if The Feds decreased the requirement, then the commercial banks will
have more money to give out and put into businesses. However, if they end up
raising the required amount then then this would decrease spending in businesses
this would be because the Reserve Bank would not have the money to give the
commercial banks which would then be passed on to the people. The third and final
tool that The Feds use is open market operations. This also happens to be the most
used out of the three. According to the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis open
market operation is the buying and selling of U.S. government securities (In plain
English, 2017, p.15). What this does to the economy is that it allows the discussion
for the federal funds rate. Ultimately meaning that this has control over what the
interest rates are on
Leading The Followers Research Paper
Leading the Followers John C. Maxwell once stated that, a leader is one who
knows the way, goes the way, and shows the way. Although leadership can be
discovered in various sectors of life, leadership signifies many different qualities
about a person. Proverbs 11:14 states, where no counsel is, the people fall; but in the
multitude of counselors there is safety. The bibleverse is basically explaining that
where there is not any leadership the people will fail but when there is leadership
the people are safe. A church is a great example where leadership is shown in
tremendous ways. Growing up in the church, I was always implied to that Godwas the
man over us all, the king. A king can be defined as a man who rules a certain group
of individuals. A king hardly ever leaves his castle; therefore God would hardly ever
leave the cross. A king uses his... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Patriot ( 2000 )
The Patriot (2000) follows Benjamin Martin (Francis Marion) a widower with 7
children and veteran of the French and Indian war. He is reluctant to join the fight
against the British until Colonel William Tavington (Lt. Colonel Banastre Tarleton)
kills Benjamin s son and burns down his house in South Carolina. Benjamin Martin
leads his militia and attacks against the British with guerilla warfare until the climax
battle, where he takes revenge for his son and kills Colonel William. What is wrong
with The Patriot? It may have gotten the big picture, which was that the British taxed
the colonists unfairly and the colonists took action by forming a militia to win the
war through guerilla warfare, but that s one of the few things that are historically
accurate about the film. Important things that are historically accurate are the
ambushes that Benjamin Gates took part in. Attacking head to head was not an
option because the British soldiers were obviously more powerful so the militia used
surprise attacks and ambushes to beat the British. Also the character Colonel William
Tavington, who was based off of the British soldier Lt. Colonel Banastre Tarleton,
was probably the most hated officer in the British army. His tactics were cowardly
and evil because he would shoot the enemy after they surrendered. The film did a
great job at showing how menacing Lt. Colonel Banastre Tarleton really was.
Nevertheless, the film was mostly inaccurate and could be considered an American

Virginia Woolf Two Cafeterias
Two Cafeterias , by Virginia Woolf, was written showing an underlying message of
how different men and woman are treated in this culture. Using words,
descriptions, and tones Woolf expresses to the reader how insignificant woman in
this day are made to feel. Woolf shows throughout the entire piece that the men of
this society are treated to nothing less than invariably memorable luncheon parties
while woman are downgraded to dinner in the dining room. By showing the
different standards in which society holds men and woman during something as
simple as a meal, Woolf undeniably succeeds in showing the low level in which
woman stand during this time. The men s meal is one that leaves Woolf feeling as
though we are all going to heaven. She lists off the potatoes being thin as coins,
sprouts foliated as rosebuds , and pudding so good that if it were otherwise related
to rice and tapioca would be nothing less than completely downgrading. The
luncheon party was so proper that them speaking of what was being eaten was
unacceptable. The men were greeted with things such as serving men and cushioned
window seats for they are considered to be the most vital in their society. Their
attitude was nothing less then snobbish for they were made to feel so high. Treated
inferior to woman, and they sought to believe it themselves. The... Show more content

Comparison of Thomas Hobbes and Jean-Jacques Rousseau
Essay
Human nature and its relevance in determining behaviors, predictions, and
conclusions has caused dispute among philosophers throughout the ages. Political
philosophy with its emphasis on government legitimacy, justice, laws, and rights
guided the works of the 17th and 18th century philosophical writings of Thomas
Hobbesand Jean Jacques Rousseau. Through Thomas Hobbes world renowned
publication Leviathan and Rousseau s discourses on basic political principals and
concepts, each man validated their thoughts on human nature and what is required
for a successful society within their respective government confines. The distinct
differences between Hobbes and Rousseau s opinions on the natural state of man

Centuries of philosophers have attempted to apply reason to why mankind has
certain tendencies. Hobbes when discussing human nature often uses beast like
tendencies as a comparison. The imagination that is raysed in man (or any other
creature indued with the faculty of imagining) by words, or other voluntary signes,
is that we generally call Understanding; and is common to Man and Beast. (Hobbes
93) Relating man to beast exemplifies Hobbes position on what he believes is
human nature. Furthering his argument that civilization rescues humanity from an
otherwise barbaric state. Hobbes view on government stems from these beliefs as
well. As explained in Leviathan, government s ultimate purpose is to control by
imposing law and order in order to protect human nature from taking over. In
respect to parenting, proper and necessary discipline is required in order to
establish order within the household. Hobbes view of man as naturally selfish and
constantly occupied with thoughts of how something may benefit them exemplifies
his pessimism. His view on the state of nature is why an absolute ruler is necessary
for a successful society. Like society a household needs a sole ruler to head that state
otherwise there would be chaos among the children and masses. Children of Thomas
Hobbes would undoubtedly be raised conservatively with a head of the household

Candide And Coriolanus Literary Analysis
The subject of class and wealth has remained a constant area of discussion, analysis
and criticism for most of human history. The conflicts between the haves and the
have nots have played themselves out in numerous plays, novels, movies and many
other aspects of literature. The determinates of status have been investigated time and
time again but the topic has not becoming boring. There are many different ways to
present status in literature, as we see in Candideand Coriolanus, and there are even
more ways to dissect the complexities of status and wealth. The prevalence of status
and wealth in literature shows that these are topics with many differing connotations,

Candide was written by Voltairein order to be a critical analysis of life and society in
1759. Although Candide is mostly about the contrasting philosophies at the time, the
topic of wealth and status is innately ingrained in many of these issues. From the
beginning of Candide, readers are made aware of the social class of the characters.
Within the first few pages we learn that Candide is from noble blood, however not
as noble as Cunegonde. Mostly every character introduced after that point is also
introduced with emphasis put on their wealth or social rank. While Shakespeare
chose to present his commentaries subtly and strategically, Voltaire makes it
immediately clear that wealth and status will be at the forefront of his satirical
analysis of the philosophical world. As mentioned, characters are introduced by their
social status with so much emphasis that it is clearly a commentary on the high value
placed on status at the time. For example, when the Old Woman is telling her story to
Cunegonde about her downfall and misfortunes, Cunegonde reacts to the discovery
that the Old Woman was actually a princess: The beautiful CunГ©gonde having
heard the old woman s story, the lovely Cunegonde showed her all the courtesies
owing to one of her rank and quality. (Voltaire, 31) Despite what the Old Woman had
gone through, Cunegonde was still valuing her previous high social

is based on a true story and by showing readers that it will have a mysterious person
in search. In the movie, there is a new family of seven, five daughters and their pet
dog that moves into an unfrequented farmhouse which took place in the 70s. Strange
things have been happening to the house as well with the family, they call
investigators to look at the house to find out why weird things have been happening.
The reason for the dark presence, appearance in the house is because someone had
hung themselves at the house so unfortunately the house is haunted without the new
family members being aware of it. The poster for the movie The Conjuring
foreshadows a mysterious dark presence not seen by everyone through the specific
placement of the shadow, the colorscheme, composition and spatial order. To begin,
the writer of The Conjuring implies that this filmis based on a true story. It being
based on something truth that actually happens in real life the audience will be
more aware and will be terrified of watching the movie. As demonstrated on the
movie poster under the title it says Based on the true case files of the warrens all in

Information Security Analyst Research Paper
Overview
Information security analysts come up with security measures to protect a given
organization s networks and/or systems. As technology is constantly advancing, the
responsibilities for this career are expanding with it ( Information Security Analysts).
Think of them as the security guards of technology. Like a security guard, they
monitor the networks and respond accordingly to unwanted events, like a hacking
attempt. This would be compared to a real security guard standing in the corner with
their arms crossed and jumping in if a fight breaks out.
Educational Requirements
The typical required education for this job is a Bachelor s degree. As with many
technology related jobs today, this specific job doesn t necessarily require that you
have a Bachelor s degree. Having enough training and certificates is often just as
valuable since your experience is more directly related to the job requirements.
According to cyberdegrees.org (How to Become a Security Analyst ), some

It seems obvious that tech jobs pay more in more populated states, which holds
true with this job. It also makes sense that this job is growing with all of the recent
hacking incidents on big companies. These companies are obviously willing to pay
top dollar for people to prevent vital information from being leaked. With the
constant advancement of technology, hackers are also getting better, so it only
makes sense that security analyst jobs would increase as a result. The main thing
that surprised me was the salary range for Wisconsin. I personally thought it would
have been a bit lower but I m pleasantly surprised. After doing this research, I am
still interested in this career. Most of the information expressed in this report is to
my liking when careers are on the mind. I ve heard from multiple different sources
that this job isn t very stressful, and that s always a nice cherry on
Persepolis Vs Antigone
Raising the wide rimmed goblet, the bearded philosopher gulps down the solution of
poison hemlock. Moments before his death, Socrates mutters his last words to his
loyal follower and childhood friend, Crito of Alopece. The Athenian gadfly possessed
the crucial support and charisma that commonly recurs in history s influential figures.
In the graphic memoir, Persepolis by Marjane Satrapi, Ebi and Taji Satrapi, Marjane s
parents, endeavor to raise their child with illegal, progressive ideals in fundamentalist
Iran, resulting in the constant threat of arrest and execution. Similarly, in the
Sophoclean tragedy, Antigone, Antigone rebels against Creon, the King of Thebes, as
well as his edict, which leaves Polyneices, Antigone s brother, unburied.... Show more

From birth, Ebi and Taji Satrapi nurture Marji supportively. When Marjane s
beliefs and education endanger her, her parents support her by sending her to
Vienna to study abroad, continuously following her education to the end despite the
sadness depicted on Ebi s face at the airport (Satrapi 153). On the other hand,
Antigone s disagreement with the law stems from her obligation to ancient Greek
religion and norms, yet by defying her uncle and her king, she simultaneously
disregards ancient Greece s patriarchal norms. Although she is not wrong for
resisting patriarchal oppression, nobody supports her in her decision, including her
sister Ismene. Trying to convince Antigone to obey Creon, Ismene pleads, We are
only women, We cannot fight with men, Antigone! / The law is strong, we must
give in to the law (Sophocles 46 47). This lack of support from her own sister
indicates that Antigone s reasoning is contradictory and flawed, while Marjane s
parents express their love for Marjane by consistently providing hope for their
Analysis Of Hills Like White Elephants And Good...
In Hills Like White Elephants , and Good People Ernest Hemingway and David
Foster Wallace identify the political and moral problems of abortion and how it
effects on loving affairs. Even though the characters in their story share similar
behaviors, shown by the dominant males promoting the operation to remove an
unborn child, the females who value even though they face some difficulties of child
rearing, as well as the two couples refusal to discuss conflicts with each other, both
authors have different conclusions resulting from the sharp differences in setting,
diction, and role of religion; Hemingway indicates loveis bare and dull as well as
presented by woman s submissive role to the male s prerogative while Wallace...

The entire story is lengthened out between the time it takes Sheri to turn and Lane
to look up at her, the perspective of the story seems to be taking place from the the
inside of the protagonist s head, who is recalling events that have recently happened
so he is able to choose whether or not he is able to have the strength to accept Sheri s
decision. Hemingway s and Wallace s geographical imagery symbolizes the couple s
reluctance to simply address their decisions on the abortions. In Hills Like White
Elephant , Jig compares the mountain to white elephants which literally means a
burden that is difficult to communicate and share; the white elephants figuratively
represents the problem about the abortion (Hemingway 924). In Good People ,
Wallace implicitly states that Lane and Sheri s pregnancyis half hidden from their
friends and the community , while also acknowledging the dire situation of their
relationship is like downed tree with exposed roots even during the beautiful
season of spring grass is () green and the air suffused with honeysuckle and lilacs
(Wallace 927). Also, Lanes posture shows she has a feeling of anxiety, reluctance
and shame as she looks from a hole in the ground to the individual from the other
side of the lake but not at Sheri who sits with her face
Functional Connectivity And Its Effect On Neuroimaging
A human brain comprises of spatially dispersed, but functionally connected areas that
shares information with each other. Functional connectivity is defined as the
temporal dependency between spatially remote neurophysiological events (Aertsen et
al., 1989; Friston et al., 1993). Different brain regions form a complex network
wherein information is shared and processed continuously within structural and
functional brainareas. This helps us in determining relation of functional connectivity
to a human behavior and would eventually lead to understanding of
neurodegenerative diseases. The article focuses on the new imaging and analysis
technique and their effect on neuroimaging. Additionally, it also discuss about resting
state importance... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The blood entering the area is oxygen enriched (oxygenated hemoglobin) and
results in a decrease of deoxy hemoglobin. Now, a BOLD contrast can be defined
as the signal generated by suppression of de oxy blood over oxy blood. The low
frequency oscillations around 0.01 Hz to 0.1 Hz are critical in understanding
resting state fMRI time series (Biswal et al., 1995; Biswal et al., 1997; Cordes et
al., 2001; Lowe et al., 2000; Lowe et al., 1996). A resting state pattern is observed in
the areas where there is a high possibility of overlap in function and neuroanatomy.
For instance, motor, visual and auditory network . This helps us to infer that these
regions form a functional network during rest. Now, it is important to understand
processing of resting state fMRI data. The methods through which a rs fMRI can be
obtained are seed based connectivity, principal component analysis, independent
component analysis, singular value decomposition, clustering. A rs FMRI analysis
can be performed either by model dependent method or Model free method. A model
dependent method is a simple technique in which brain areas are matched with the
time series signal against all other areas. This results in generating a functional
connectivity map (fcMap) for the selected area. A seed can be selected from a task
dependent activation map acquired, pointing a specific area of interest. A
disadvantage of this technique is the limited functional connectivity of that area in

Gatesburggreen Initiative Case Study
The GatesburgGoGreen Initiative is a joint proposal developed by environmental
groups, businesses, city officials, and citizens. The goal of the initiative is to
reduce the waste added to the county landfill by 90% over the span of five years by
giving residents three trashcans; one for compost, one for recyclable paper and
plastic, and one for landfill waste.
The goal of the project is well hearted, and has benifits for the environment, by
encouraging recycling and lessening the amount of energy used by making new
materials, the tax payers, by eliminating the cost it would take for the county to open
a new landfill (which would be very costly), and citizens, by providing compost to
use in their gardens.
There are though some problems that would come with this proposal. The
GatesburgGoGreen Initiative would place strict laws on what residents can and can
not put inside of each bin. The initiative proposes that fines will be placed on
citizens who do not adhere strictly to the rules of what can go inside of each bin.
Also, each bin is equipt with a radio frequency identification computer chip, which
will weigh each bin, and compare how much waste is placed in the recyling bins,
versus the trash bins (waste that will go to the county landfll). ... Show more content

I know that there are many times I have looked at a piece of waste, and was not
quite sure if I should recyle it, or throw it into the trashcan for it to be taken to a

human error, and not fine those who might be simply confused, or have made only a

Eyes Were Watching God Essay
Their Eyes Were Watching God provides an enlightening look at the journey of a
quot;complete, complex, undiminished human being quot;, Janie Crawford. Her
story, based on self exploration, self empowerment, and self liberation, details her
loss and attainment of her innocence and freedom as she constantly learns and grows
from her experiences with gender issues, racism, and life. The story centers around an
important theme; that personal discoveries and life experiences help a person find
themselves.
Nanny was determined that Janie would break the cycle of oppression of black
women, who were quot;mules for the world quot;. (Both of Janie s first two husbands

Janie had a difficult time discovering her identity and it took her many years. Once
she broke down the confining walls she held a tight grip on her identity. Janie looked
whiter than other women. Her fair complexion attracted Starks and also contributed
to his objectification of her. Janie s husband Joe humiliated the citizen s of
Eatonville in similar ways as the white man and forced her into slavish servitude

tyranny by telling him off just before he died and reclaiming her identity by burning

was a symbol of internalized racism. Again, Janie remains true to herself and
continued to form her own identity by refusing to leave Tea Cake and class off as
Mrs. Turner suggested.
She experienced true happiness with Tea Cake while taking in new lessons of life.
She had a sense of freedom and regained innocence with him. He made most of the

was again replaced with a harsh reality, death. Janie wore her overalls because

in her life and learned that there are quot;two things everybody s
Doe Season Symbolism
Doe Season is a short story written by David Michael Kaplan. David Michael
Kaplan was born in 1946 in New York. He started his writing career in 1985 with
his first novel Skating in the Dark, and wrote Doe Season in 1987. He is identified
in the writing community as a magical realist and receives most of his influence
from magical realist elements like interweaving magical elements with detailed,
realistically drawn everyday setting. Kaplan wrote this book as a coming of age story
of a girl starting to become a woman. This is a critical analysis of the short storyDoe
Seasonby observing and identifying different key elements within the story. The main
characters in this story are Andy, Andy s father, and Andy s mother. Andy is a young

The title Doe Season could be translated to the female time. Doe meaning female
and season meaning time. The female time is symbolic because it refers to Andy
and how it is almost the end of her innocence, or childhood, and the beginning of
becoming a women. Another piece of important symbolism in this story are the
woods. To Andy, the woods symbolize safety. Andy knows the woods and is
comfortable in the woods. When Andy is running in the woods from the dead doe
she start to hear the sounds of the ocean, this symbolizes her leaving her innocence,
and her comfort and going towards womanhood, the unknown that is the ocean.
The ocean reminds her of her mother when her top came off in the ocean and she
saw her mother s breasts. She knows that one day she will also have breast like her
mothers and will become a women, but this is unknown, scary area for Andy.
During the second night after Andy shot the doe, she has a dream. In her dream
there is an instance where Andy pressed deeper, through flesh and muscle and sinew,
until her whole hand and more was inside the wound and she had found the doe s
heart . This symbolizes the guilt that Andy has from shooting the doe. The doe
symbolizes Andy s innocence and by killing the doe she feels that innocence is gone
and that is transitioning into adulthood. She come to this scary realization this near
the end of the story and runs
Medical Sonography Career Path
The career path that I am choosing to follow is Diagnostic Medical Sonography.
This career involves the use of frequency waves to view tissues; organs and blood
flow inside of the body. My main career goals involve getting into the program, then
getting a solid career in this profession. From there I plan on growing and getting
even more education if it is offered, as well as branching out into other fields of
Songraphy.
Sonography is considered fairly new to the medical world. It started back in the 19th
century when people were becoming curious of what the inside of the body looked
like. Soon after, the x ray was invented. Then the French government had a man
named Paul Langevine invent an object to detect enemy submarines during war. ...

Phase I is the general education course that consists of nine classes SITE. I think
my biggest obstacles will be in this phase. This phase includes my biology classes,
which means there is a lot of memorization required for different bones, tissues, and
organs in the body. These classes can be taken at my own pace and the grades that
I receive in these classes will determine if I get into phase II or not. Because the
program at Greenville Tech only accepts 15 students, it is imperative that I perform
to the best of my abilities in every one of my classes. Greenville Tech is also one of
the few accredited programs in South Carolina, which makes it even more harder to
be come a Sonographer. I must also have to attend a career talk to get into the
program, which basically talks about a career in Diagnostic Medical Sonography
and informs students on what to expect going into the program. Phase II of course,
is the actual program for Diagnostic Medical Sonography. It is a year long clinical
and class environment where I will learn hands on how to be a Diagnostic Medial
Sonographer. Altogether, becoming a sonographer could take from 2 4 years
depending on the amounts of classes taken each semester, as well as the program
itself. Before officially becoming a sonographer in South Carolina, I will have to
take a test. It is called the Ultrasound Physics and Instrumentation Examination, as

Recombination Frequency In Sordaria
This study examined the effects of X ray radiation on recombination frequency in
Sordaria fimicola, a model organism. A Laboratory Manual for Biology 110
Biology: Basic Concepts and Biodiversity states that S. fimicola:

its life cycle and genetics, a rapid life cycle allowing studies to be conducted in a
timely manner, ease of isolating strains from the wild and grown them in the
laboratory, and the fact that it produces fruiting bodies (perithecia) containing
narrow, elongate asci with eight spores that are easily viewable under the

Treatment one consisted of Wild Type and Tan S. fimicola isolates that were both
treated with X ray radiation. The second treatment was Wild Type treated with X ray
radiation and Tan without radiation. Finally, the third treatment consisted of Tan
isolates treated with X ray radiation and Wild Type isolates without. A control plate
was also tested to use as a comparison (Burpee et al., 2015). For control plates and
all three of the treatments, petri dishes were prepared to cross the isolates, producing
perithecia. First, two 0.5 cm squares of fungal hyphae containing agar were cut from
a cultured petri dish. Wild Type and Tan isolates were used for the control; X ray
samples corresponding to the correct treatment were used for the experimental plates.
The agar squares were then placed with the hyphae side facing the agar on the
quadrant labeled for the corresponding isolate. These steps were then repeated for the
remaining strains/ culture plates (Burpee et al., 2015). The samples were then left to
incubate for two weeks until the next step in the experiment the

  • 1. Academic Goals Essay Writing an essay on the subject of academic goals can be both challenging and rewarding. The difficulty lies in the need to strike a balance between personal aspirations and the expectations of the academic environment. Crafting a compelling narrative that effectively communicates your educational ambitions, career objectives, and the steps you plan to take to achieve them requires thoughtful reflection and articulate expression. One of the challenges is articulating your goals in a way that resonates with the intended audience, whether it be an admissions committee or a professor. It demands a deep understanding of your own motivations and a clear vision of how your academic pursuits align with your broader life objectives. The essay must not only convey your passion for learning but also demonstrate a well-thought-out plan for academic success. Additionally, maintaining a sense of individuality and authenticity is crucial. While there may be common themes in academic goal essays, the challenge lies in presenting your unique experiences, skills, and perspectives that set you apart from other candidates. Striking this balance requires careful consideration of your personal journey and a thoughtful portrayal of your distinct qualities. Moreover, organizing the essay coherently can be challenging. It's important to structure your thoughts in a logical sequence, starting with an engaging introduction, followed by a clear presentation of your goals, and concluding with a strong summary that leaves a lasting impression. Ensuring a smooth flow while addressing all the necessary components can be a meticulous task. The Collapse Of The Space Shuttle Before Columbia In the year of 2003, on February 1, a tragic accident had occurred in the atmosphere above Texas as the space shuttle called Columbia was on it s way to land at the Kennedy Space Center. The shuttle itself was on its 28th mission and was just one of the five space shuttles that was used amongst NASA. There were seven astronauts that were inside the shuttle. Their names were Rick Husband, David Brown, Michael Anderson, Laurel Clark, William McCool, Kalpana Chawla, and Ilan Ramon. They had all died in an explosion within the shuttle itself. NASA was trying to figure out how this could ve happened. They ran through many possibilities of what could ve gone wrong and they came to the conclusion that the reason the shuttle had exploded when coming through the atmosphere was because a chunk of foam hilt a wing of the craft. This was suspected to be the reason when tape was analyzed of the takeoff before Columbia went into space. NASA wanted to know if it was the real reason but didn t want anyone else to know of the issues besides them. The Department of Defense had asked permission from the people working for NASA to use orbital spy cameras to analyze the problem. But NASA had said no to their offer and went on to analyze and check the disaster for themselves so that they knew what the problem was. They call this a common check .

Jewish civil and religious status was deteriorating, thanks to the influence the bishops had in the political arena. Laws were passed making it a capital offense for any Jew to make a convert, they were excluded from various professions, denied all civil honors, and their autonomy of worship was being threatened. In every way, they were being discriminated against. Christians felt that this growing evidence now supported their belief in divine punishment. Hilary of Potieres spoke of the Jews as a people who had always persisted in iniquity and out of its abundance of evil glorified in wickedness. 6 Ambrose defended a fellow bishop

The plan was for me to meet Ms. Clara Mae who is a resident there. My expectations for the day were not the best, I dreaded the smell of being in a nursing home. As I approached room 406, I noticed a faint lemonsmell that floated around the hall. I cautiously tapped on her wooden door and noticed a festive, fall wreath hanging crookedly by her mailbox. Ms. Clara Mae seemed sleepy and tired and she told me that she normally took a nap before lunch. That was my cue that I must move on to visit the other residents in the activity/recreation area. The scent of lemon wafted over to me once again, and I realized that she had an air freshener plug in the wall nearest the window. Evidently, she did not like the smell of nursing homes either. It suddenly hit me that she could be me in the future! She had a similar story like me, she liked some of the same things I did, and she had a great sense of humor. All Ms. Clara Mae needed was someone to listen to her and a little companionship. I had learned that her family no longer visited her anymore and the only people that saw her on a routine basis was a group that came from a church once a month. How sad! I felt connected to her and it crushed me to leave her. She seemed to understand and reassured me that she knew I was busy and had lots of things to do. As I stood to walk out of the yellow room, with the one plant and no electronics, I made a pledge that I would try to be someone that she could rely on to come visit. Then I sadly realized that I would not have the opportunity to see her again until

When recreating Hell, it was imperative to ensure that no light was present but there was some type of visibility so that its inhabitants can discover the sights of woe (Fletcher 156) . In the model, the Southern region which was Hell was painted black to convey the darkness that was intended. It also conveys the burnt soil that Satan walks on when he goes to the beach to speak to his fallen angels (Fletcher 167). The emptiness of Hell in the model represents not just the bleakness but the hot and dry climate that Hell would have possessed. However, the blue lights that have been installed were to show not just the sights of woe but it also was to indicate Hell s design. The poem states that It is voyd of light, / Save what the glimmering of these livid flames (Fletcher 159). Also in the model, the location of Hell has also been carved out of the material. • 16. Why Did Ancient Art Man Use Animals To Depict Their Deities I have a few theories as to why ancient man used animals to depict their deities. First I ll start with Prehistoric Art. As far back as 30,000 B.C.E. man created pictures of nature. From paintings on cave walls to sculptures carved of rock from within the cave, prehistoric man paid tribute by creating art in the form of animals such as bulls, bison, horses, bears, and even felines. To these people these animals were a life source. Not only as food but for warmth, weapons and tools. By worshipping these creatures with art man believed they were showing gratitude therefore ensuring more animals would come. As seen with the Wounded Bison at the Cave of Altamira in Northern Spain, these bison were painted on the cave ceiling. Man noticed the bulges in the rock and chose to paint the creature it resembles most even though it may have been difficult to reach. As though it was a calling of a higher power, man would build scaffoldings against the walls to allow themselves better access to their canvas. With the Egyptians their... Those who suffered from a mental illness or displayed abnormal behavior were locked away and never spoken of. Today abnormal behavior is viewed much differently. With the study of psychology and the help of the medical field, abnormal behavior has become better understood. This essay will discuss the major theories for the cause of abnormal behavior, how abnormal behavior is diagnosed and what type of behavioral issues are related to abnormal behavior. Abnormal behavior is defined as a psychological dysfunction within an individual associated with distress or impairment in functioning and response that is not typical or culturally expected (Durand, 2005). Instead it seems to take many genes that are combined together to produce both functional and dysfunctional behaviors. The second perspective is the psychodynamic perspective. The psychodynamic perspective emphasizes how the role of early childhood experiences, the unconscious mind and interpersonal relationships play a part in abnormal behavior. This perspective evolved from Sigmund Freud s psychoanalytical theory which generally contended that psychological disorders are the outcome of anxiety which is produced by unresolved, unconscious conflicts. The third perspective is the behavioral perspective. The basis of the behavioral perspective suggests that all behaviors are learned. This perspective was developed partially because some psychologists did not agree with Freud s ideas. Many of these psychologists believed that Freud s theory could be explained much more simplistically. This is why the behavioral perspective asserts that human beings behave according to the dictates of their environment (Sarason Sarason, 2005). Another perspective is the cognitive perspective. Transpiration Lab Report Transpiration with Solanum lycopersicum Kimberly Smith Jenna Portier, Aaliyah Hebert, Marie LaSalle, Krystal Bellanger, Thea Martin September 11, 2017 Biology 156 3T1 Abstract This lab deals with the transpiration rates in plants, specifically a tomato plant that was used for this experiment. Transpiration is when water leaves a plant through the stomata as water vapor while the stomata is capturing CO2 for photosynthesis. This experiment used three different scenarios: a tomato plant with a light shining on it, a tomato plant with wind blowing on it from a fan, and lastly a tomato plant with nothing acting on it. The hypothesis is that the rate of transpiration will be fastest with light, faster with wind, and slow with the control. This hypothesis was rejected because the rate of transpiration is as follows with the wind having the fastest rate: with light the rate was 7.60 mm/min, with wind 10.20 mm/min, and control 4.33 mm /min. The cause of the wind having a faster transpiration rate than the light may have been due to the surface area of the leaves on the tomato plants. The surface area of the leaves for the wind experiment is 8,124mm2, and for the light is 7,740mm2.By doing this transpiration experiment it helps one to see what happens in plants daily and understand why it happens. Introduction What is transpiration? Transpiration is when a plant absorbs water in its roots and the root pressure becomes high causing the plant to release the excess water as water vapor

To do this the essay will focus on the conventions of language and subject identity to show how modernist drama challenges the ways of realist drama. This essay will first outline what modernism is. Finally, the essay will look at Pirandello s play and discuss how it relates to the modernist dramastyle before concluding. When something is considered contemporary or in style, it is considered to be modern. From the late 18th century to the early 19th century there was a shift in history. There was a rise in capitalist societies and an increase in industrial productivity. This created the start of modernity. Macey (2001) refers to modernity as the period of the modern. While Penn shot for vogue, he also strayed away from fashion some of the time to focus on influential figures with the same style of the fashion portraits he took in the past. A series of his that is very influential is his corner portraits from the late 1940s, where he took portraits of different individuals all standing in a very claustrophobic corner, almost making them seem less important than their influence states. Some examples of this include portraits of Marchel Duchamp and Georgie O Keeffe: Two very prominent painters are photographed cut off from the work of art, seemingly stuck in a gray walled room with no artistic fervor anywhere to be seen. The photographs are bleak, but offer a sense of distance from the audience, enough to show these famous individuals as humans. According to the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis reserve requirements are the portions of deposits that banks must hold in cash, either in their vaults or on deposit at a Reserve Bank (In plain English, 2017, p.15). This works by by determining how much money is needed in the bank at any given time. This would mean that if The Feds decreased the requirement, then the commercial banks will have more money to give out and put into businesses. Benjamin Martin leads his militia and attacks against the British with guerilla warfare until the climax battle, where he takes revenge for his son and kills Colonel William. What is wrong with The Patriot? It may have gotten the big picture, which was that the British taxed the colonists unfairly and the colonists took action by forming a militia to win the war through guerilla warfare, but that s one of the few things that are historically accurate about the film. Important things that are historically accurate are the ambushes that Benjamin Gates took part in. Attacking head to head was not an option because the British soldiers were obviously more powerful so the militia used surprise attacks and ambushes to beat the British. Also the character Colonel William Tavington, who was based off of the British soldier Lt. Colonel Banastre Tarleton, was probably the most hated officer in the British army. His tactics were cowardly and evil because he would shoot the enemy after they surrendered. The film did a great job at showing how menacing Lt. Colonel Banastre Tarleton really was. Comparison of Thomas Hobbes and Jean-Jacques Rousseau Essay Human nature and its relevance in determining behaviors, predictions, and conclusions has caused dispute among philosophers throughout the ages. Political philosophy with its emphasis on government legitimacy, justice, laws, and rights guided the works of the 17th and 18th century philosophical writings of Thomas Hobbesand Jean Jacques Rousseau. Centuries of philosophers have attempted to apply reason to why mankind has certain tendencies. Hobbes when discussing human nature often uses beast like tendencies as a comparison. The imagination that is raysed in man (or any other creature indued with the faculty of imagining) by words, or other voluntary signes, is that we generally call Understanding; and is common to Man and Beast. (Hobbes 93) Relating man to beast exemplifies Hobbes position on what he believes is human nature. Furthering his argument that civilization rescues humanity from an otherwise barbaric state. Hobbes view on government stems from these beliefs as well. As explained in Leviathan, government s ultimate purpose is to control by imposing law and order in order to protect human nature from taking over. In respect to parenting, proper and necessary discipline is required in order to establish order within the household. Hobbes view of man as naturally selfish and constantly occupied with thoughts of how something may benefit them exemplifies his pessimism. His view on the state of nature is why an absolute ruler is necessary for a successful society. Like society a household needs a sole ruler to head that state otherwise there would be chaos among the children and masses. Children of Thomas Hobbes would undoubtedly be raised conservatively with a head of the household holds all control

Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Candide was written by Voltairein order to be a critical analysis of life and society in 1759. Although Candide is mostly about the contrasting philosophies at the time, the topic of wealth and status is innately ingrained in many of these issues. From the beginning of Candide, readers are made aware of the social class of the characters. Within the first few pages we learn that Candide is from noble blood, however not as noble as Cunegonde. Mostly every character introduced after that point is also introduced with emphasis put on their wealth or social rank. While Shakespeare chose to present his commentaries subtly and strategically, Voltaire makes it immediately clear that wealth and status will be at the forefront of his satirical analysis of the philosophical world. As mentioned, characters are introduced by their social status with so much emphasis that it is clearly a commentary on the high value placed on status at the time. For example, when the Old Woman is telling her story to Cunegonde about her downfall and misfortunes, Cunegonde reacts to the discovery that the Old Woman was actually a princess: The beautiful CunГ©gonde having heard the old woman s story, the lovely Cunegonde showed her all the courtesies owing to one of her rank and quality. (Voltaire, 31) Despite what the Old Woman had gone through, Cunegonde was still valuing her previous high social

  • 42. Functional Connectivity And Its Effect On Neuroimaging A human brain comprises of spatially dispersed, but functionally connected areas that shares information with each other. Functional connectivity is defined as the temporal dependency between spatially remote neurophysiological events (Aertsen et al., 1989; Friston et al., 1993). Different brain regions form a complex network wherein information is shared and processed continuously within structural and functional brainareas. This helps us in determining relation of functional connectivity to a human behavior and would eventually lead to understanding of neurodegenerative diseases. The article focuses on the new imaging and analysis technique and their effect on neuroimaging. Additionally, it also discuss about resting state importance... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The blood entering the area is oxygen enriched (oxygenated hemoglobin) and results in a decrease of deoxy hemoglobin. Now, a BOLD contrast can be defined as the signal generated by suppression of de oxy blood over oxy blood. The low frequency oscillations around 0.01 Hz to 0.1 Hz are critical in understanding resting state fMRI time series (Biswal et al., 1995; Biswal et al., 1997; Cordes et al., 2001; Lowe et al., 2000; Lowe et al., 1996). A resting state pattern is observed in the areas where there is a high possibility of overlap in function and neuroanatomy. For instance, motor, visual and auditory network . This helps us to infer that these regions form a functional network during rest. Now, it is important to understand processing of resting state fMRI data. The methods through which a rs fMRI can be obtained are seed based connectivity, principal component analysis, independent component analysis, singular value decomposition, clustering. A rs FMRI analysis can be performed either by model dependent method or Model free method. A model dependent method is a simple technique in which brain areas are matched with the time series signal against all other areas. This results in generating a functional connectivity map (fcMap) for the selected area. A seed can be selected from a task dependent activation map acquired, pointing a specific area of interest. A disadvantage of this technique is the limited functional connectivity of that area in comparison to

The goal of the initiative is to reduce the waste added to the county landfill by 90% over the span of five years by giving residents three trashcans; one for compost, one for recyclable paper and plastic, and one for landfill waste. The goal of the project is well hearted, and has benifits for the environment, by encouraging recycling and lessening the amount of energy used by making new materials, the tax payers, by eliminating the cost it would take for the county to open a new landfill (which would be very costly), and citizens, by providing compost to use in their gardens.
