The final assignment
What were you working on before
half-term?
You all have all completed a working
prototype of a 2D game
The general quality of the work this year has
been very good. I’ve been very impressed.
Most of you have completed your
evaluation
The following students still need to submit their
evaluations to Moodle:
• Peter
• Jade
• Harry
• Elliot
• Bogdan
• Sehraab
I’ll talk to the students above during the lesson.
Today
You are going to begin your last assignment for
this unit.
You are going to add some more detailed
information to the Game Proposal you created
in Shoubna’s lesson, explaining 5 key parts of
your game.
By the end of the lesson, you
• MUST describe your 2D game prototypes
gameplay, characters, environments & story in a
game proposal.
• SHOULD explain your games key features in
detail, justifying the design choices you made for
your game.
• COULD proof read your work and use spell check
to ensure that your Game Proposal
communicates your ideas clearly and in an
engaging way.
What is a Game Proposal?
A game proposal is a written document outlining
the main features of your game, including:
• Its story
• Its characters
• Its gameplay features
• Different levels
• Concept art
• Sprite & level designs.
You have already written a game
proposal in Shoubna’s lesson.
You’ve described the games:
• Title
• Genre
• Platform
• Features
• Etc….
But you need to add 5 more sections
The final sections are:
1. Gameplay
2. Avatar
3. NPC’s
4. Environments
5. Game story
What do we mean by gameplay
Gameplay explains how the player actually plays
your game (its mechanics):
• wall-running?
• Jumping?
• different weapons?
• combat mechanics?
• Health?
• Lives?
• coin pickups?
Characters: Avatar
• Who is your main character? Give us a better
understanding of
1. who they are (a plumber)
2. where they come from (The Mushroom
kingdom)
3. what they want to achieve in the game (Rescue
Princess Toadstool)
Characters: NPC’s
What does NPC mean?
A non-playable character is any character in the
game who the player can’t directly control. This can
include:
1. Allies (RPG characters, guides)
2. All the different types of enemies
Describe each NPC character in your game. Who are
they? What do they look like? What will they do in
the game level? How will they help or hinder the
player?
Environments
1. Where is your game set?
2. What is the first levels location?
3. What is the players goal in the level?
4. What will stop them achieving that goal?
5. What different objects are in the level?
6. What different enemies will be in your level?
Game Story
• What is the backstory to your game? The best
games have a simple story which sets out the
players motivation for completing the game.
• Think about who the player is and what they
want to achieve? Why is this?
• Try to summarise it in 50 words.
For example/
"After Link awakens from a hundred
years sleep with no memory, he
must travel the broken realm of
Hyrule, discovering what happened
to the 4 champions of Hyrule and
Princess Zelda, in order to save the
Kingdom from the demon Ganon."
In 1 minute I will ask you to:
1. Download your game proposal from Moodle.
2. Write the final 5 sections of the Game
Proposal.
3. Resubmit this to the Moodle assignment
“Assignment 4: Game Proposal” by the end of
the lesson.
