GAGAN is India's satellite-based augmentation system developed indigenously to provide navigation services over Indian airspace. The first GAGAN payload was launched in 2010 but the satellite failed to reach orbit. A successful launch was made in 2011 on the GSAT-8 satellite. GAGAN uses 15 Indian ground stations to process GPS data and provides precision navigation, landing and other services to aviation and other industries in India. Its implementation enhances safety and efficiency of air travel.
