Transition From Transitional Lava Types
Transition From Pahoehoe to A a
In its most general sense, as the flow advances away from the vent, core temperature decreases
leading to an increase in viscosity and ultimately marks a transition from pahoehoe to a a. This point
of transition is most often referred to as the transition threshold (Peterson Tilling, 1980). Lava which
continues to deform even after it has become highly viscous, may reach this threshold and
subsequently changes to a a. There are many factors which govern this change, and will be discussed
in the proceeding section.
Transitional lava types have been studied, such as the rubbly pahoehoe observed from the Laki flows,
Iceland, of 1783 84 (Guilbaud, 2005), and slab pahoehoe on Kilauea (Peterson Tilling, ... Show more

Due to this regard, it was first considered to be impossible (MacDonald, 1953).
Factors Controlling Emplacement of Pahoehoe A a flow
As discussed above, pahoehoe morphology forms from hotter, more fluid lava, and a a from critically
stressed and highly viscous lava. As already alluded to, Peterson Tilling (1980) recognised an inverse
relationship between viscosity and shear rate; if viscosity is low, a high rate of shear is required to
begin transition to a a, giving rise to its characteristic brecciated surface. Likewise, if viscosity is high,
a lower rate of shear will induce a transition. This section will discuss the most significant factors
governing the transition.
Effusion Rates
During a magmatic episode, a high discharge rate of magma is likely to produce lava fountaining high
into the air. It is inferred that the higher the fountaining, the more exposure the lava has to cool air,
thus increasing its viscosity. Further, with a high flow rate, lava continues to move even if viscosity
and yield stress is high. This continues up to a point at which surface disruptions can no longer be
healed , and the transition threshold is duly reached.
Rowland (1990) is one such advocate, attributing differences in lava type on Kilauea to differences in
volumetric flow rate. Rowland concluded that:

American Fighter Pilot Brigadier General Robin Olds Essay
Brigadier General Robin Olds Throughout military history, there have been many leaders that can be
considered either visionary or ethical. This paper will discuss how BG Robin Olds was a visionary
leader, but not a very ethical leader. From the beginning of his career, he was a visionary in aerial
combat tactics and a true believer of leading from the front. His vision of aerial combat was beyond
his years, but often fell upon deaf ears due to his flamboyant nature. He never hesitated to say exactly
what was on his mind, which is why his actions could be considered unethical. But, his men loved
him, and would follow him to hell and back. First, this paper will discuss BG Olds visionary
leadership abilities he displayed the Viet Nam ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Once he took command, his innovative side took over and he immediately started to make changes.
He understood his weaknesses, and allowed his men to train him in order to make him a better pilot.
He routinely flew in the number 2 position of the formation, until his skills were honed to perfection.
During this time, pilots were assigned as flight leads based off rank. Olds displayed intellectual
humility, as a part of his critical thinking skills, to change the current thinking of using the highest
ranking individual as flight lead, versus putting the pilot with the most experience in that position...it
should be based off skill, not rank. Even being the Wing Commander, Olds often wore a flight suit
without rank, and let his lower ranking, more qualified officers lead the mission (badass, 2012). A true
sign of being a visionary and transformational leader, Olds used the all of the 4 I s (Individualized
Consideration, Intellectual Stimulation, Inspirational Motivation, and Idealized Influence) while
making these decisions, and his men loved him for it (CF02SG, 2012, pg 22 23). He fostered inclusive
environments by putting the whole wing under the same 24 hour clock as the combat crews, and
visited the support organizations to find out the true problems and help fix them (Boyne, 2008). Now
that BG Olds visionary leadership traits have been discussed, let s explore his

Beer Simulation
Root Beer Simulation At the outset, I have to acknowledge that I had a problem with this simulation.
Initially, in my first two orders, I confused the backlog and inventory sections, so that I believed I had
a significant surplus in inventory. Therefore, rather than minimizing the bullwhip of supply and
demand, I exacerbated the problem by limiting my supply well below the number of orders coming in,
much less below what I could fill with the backlog and incoming orders. This error on my part
certainly led to increasing instability, not only in my own incoming orders, but also in the entire
supply chain. The simulation also kept auto filling my initial order, which was only 10,000 cases,
despite me ordering a significantly larger number of cases. I could not get the simulation to operate
properly and allow me to place a larger order. It kept auto ordering the 10,000 cases. I could not get it
to place an order other than 10,000 cases. Because of this glitch, I continued to increase my backlog. I
simply could not order more than 10,000 cases. I address this issue because the glitch certainly
impacted my opinion of the computer simulation as a means of learning. In this scenario, the initial
computer simulation was absolutely worthless as a learning tool. I made an error in my first order, but
I do not think that error was meaningful. Instead, it appears that whatever number of cases I placed in
my initial order would be the number of cases ordered over the next several

Effects Of Greek Mythology
The myths of Zeus, Hera and the other Olympians are well known worldwide, as are those of the
many demigod heroes, such as Hercules and Daedalus. Although their stories are familiar, the effects
that they had on life in Ancient Greece and the rest of the world is unknown to most people. Although
many may not know it, Greek mythology had a large effect on life in Ancient Greece through names,
religious practices and places, festivals, architecture, and wars. The first way that Greek mythology
affected daily life in Ancient Greece was through its effect on the names of places in Greece, many of
which we still hear today. Major cities in Ancient Greece were often named after the gods so that the
cities could receive special blessings ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When money was made, Athena was also pictured on both sides of the coins for a time. Although not
all cities renamed themselves after the patron god, this is a very well known way that Greek
mythology affected life in Ancient Greece. Another way that the names of places were affected by
Greek myths is through its effect on religious practices and sacred places. One such place that was
important to the Greeks was the sacred place of Delphi. Delphi was dedicated to Apollo, the god of
prophecy. It is also believed by the Greeks to house its namesake, the Oracle of Delphi, which would
proclaim prophecies to those that worshipped it and made sacrifices. People from all over Greece
flocked to this area to give offerings to the Oracle in hopes of receiving a prophecy. Another sacred
place to the Greeks was Mount Olympus. Mount Olympus was the tallest mountain in Greece, and
was believed to be the home of the gods. It was chosen as such because in Greek mythology, this is
the place where the gods took their stand against their parents, the Titans. In this battle, the gods
climbed the mountain to attack from out of range of the Titans. After winning the battle and becoming
the supreme deities of Greece, the gods have resided there ever since. Even more, the base of the
mountain the home of the nine muses, goddesses of the arts. This affected the lives of many Greeks
because it influenced what they did and where they had to travel to when they felt they

Hillary Clinton Debate Summary
On September 26, the first presidential debate of the 2016 election was held between Democrat
Hillary Clinton and Republican Donald Trump. The debate was divided into six segments
approximately fifteen minutes long, each beginning with a question chosen by the moderator, Lester
Holt of NBC Nightly News. The topic of Achieving Prosperity opened the debate, focusing of jobs
and taxes. America s Direction was the subject of the next two segments, which consisted primarily of
questions based on the racial divide in America. The final matter of the night was Securing America .
This topic brought attention to cyber and homegrown attacks and the nation s current policy on the use
of nuclear weapons. Lester Holt first asked the candidates how ... Show more content on

the more we can invest in you, your education, your skills, your future, the better we will be off and

crisis that contributed to the United States recession between 2007 and 2009, telling the audience, ...
Donald was one of the people who rooted for the housing crisis. He said, back in 2006, Gee, I hope it

Trump responded to Clinton s claim with, That s called business, by the way. This discussion showed
the American people that Trump cared more about his personal gain than the well being of the general
population. Finally, Clinton s comments on the racial divide in America pleases both people of color

race has on where people live, the education taught in public schools, and the criminal justice system.

The Effect Of Prostaglandins On The Inflammation Pathway...
The role of prostaglandins in the inflammation pathway and the mechanism of action of NSAIDs
Student ID: 51555517 Date: 11 11 2015
Inflammation is a defense reaction, whereby harmful factors are removed and tissue structure and
function are restored. During the acute phase of inflammation, first neutrophils will arrive, followed
by monocytes. The monocytes mature into inflammatory macrophages and will finally affect the
function of the resident tissue macrophages [Figure 1]. These responses lead to swelling, redness, heat
and often pain. Once the first stimulus is removed, the reaction will stop and the inflammatory cells
will be returned to pre inflammatory numbers. Prostaglandins play an important role in immune
reactions and are therefore often targeted by anti inflammatory drugs, such as non steroid anti
inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). The specific role of prostaglandins and the mechanism of action of
NSAIDs will be discussed (Ricciotti; FitzGerald, 2011). Figure 1. Basic diagram of acute
inflammation (Reilkoff; Bucala et al., 2011)
Prostaglandins in general
Prostaglandins are formed when arachidonic acid is released from the plasma membrane by
phospholipases [Figure 2]. This acid is metabolized by PGG/H synthase or cyclooxygenase (COX).
The four main bioactive prostaglandins are generated in vivo: prostaglandin E2 (PGE2), prostacyclin
(PGI2), prostaglandin D2 (PGD2) and prostaglandin F2 (PGF2).

The Impact Of Modern Social Workers On The Community
Introduction Modern social workers participate actively in helping people to obtain rights, services,
benefits and opportunities that they might not otherwise obtain through micro policy advocacy, ?often
prioritize the needs of vulnerable populations when they engage in advocacy? (Jansson, 2016, p. 21).
Through community immersion, the social worker gains an understanding of the community attributes
and desiderata, requiring them to utilize their experience and expertise to advocate policies that will
satisfy the client?s needs (NASW, n.d.). Furthermore, when social workers immerse themselves in the
community, it becomes an act of care and concern to serve the community. Compelling them to
implement new changes, depict workable intervention schemes, and generate attainable treatment
plans to satisfy the needs of the individuals, families and community. The community that will be
addressed in this paper is National City. It is located five miles south of downtown San Diego and ten
miles away from the US Mexico border in Tijuana.
National City is divided into three sub communities based on their regional parks: Kimball, El Toyon
and Las Palmas (KTU+A, 2014). Because of National City?s unique location in close proximity to
downtown San Diego, it is considered an urban city, as defined by Jannson (2016), with a lot of
commercial activity and impoverishment. Depending on the social worker?s role, knowledge on the
type of community is crucial; when there is a deficit of

campaign in 1992. Jack Stanton, who portrays Bill Clinton in the film, is a charismatic Southern
governor running for presidency and is trying to win the votes of America. Henry Burton, a young
political idealist, is recruited to join Jack s campaign team. Along the way, Jack runs into problems
regarding his image. Trying not to lose the votes of America, Jack and his wife Susan hire Libby, who

She is the background researcher and the rumor cover up er. She is seen doing things above and
beyond what Jack has asked of her even if she knows it is wrong. For example, the recording between
Jack and Cashmere is fake, but Jack is still worried meaning he has something to be afraid of which
implies that he is guilty. Even though Libby knows Jack is guilty of something, she has to figure out
who put the tape together and get the creator to confess to making the tape. This shows that she is a
utilitarian because she knows that it is wrong, but she cannot let the citizens of America change their
minds about Jack so she tries and protects him. Near the end of the film, it is clear that Libby is and

Libby even went as far as to taking out old pictures of Jack and Susan when they were deontologists to
try and convince Susan not to expose Picker. Libby threatens to destroy Jack s campaign if Picker s
history gets revealed because she did not want to hurt anyone intentionally which is a clear indication
of a deontologist thinker. Jack s campaign is twisting her deontologist morals and beliefs so much that
she could not bear to live with that, so she takes her own

Essay about The Human Right Violations at Abu Ghraib
The Human Right Violations at Abu Ghraib
In 1949, the Geneva Convention Relative to the Treatment of Prisoners of War was created to prohibit
immoral, cruel and degrading punishment toward prisoners during wartime. The United States ratified
this covenant and became a member of the Geneva Conventions. During Operation Iraqi Freedom, a
series of human abuses occurred from October through December of 2003 where American military
personnel have conducted acts of brutality and immoral behavior toward Iraqi detainees at the Abu
Ghraib prison. The inhumane interrogation method of the American military have clearly violated

Abu Ghraib and the Root Causes of Abuse
When President Bush declared the War on Terror after the incident of September 11, 2001, he was
declaring a new kind of war on a different kind of enemy. The al Qaeda terrorist group who were
responsible for the destruction of World Trade Center is organized differently than any enemy that the
U.S. has faced before. Since the terrorists were determined to target large numbers of American
civilians, the Bush administration issued a memorandum which declared the Geneva Conventions
cannot apply to unconventional combatants such as al Qaeda, it states I accept the legal conclusion of
the Department of Justice and determine that none of the provisions of Geneva apply to our conflict
with al Qaeda in Afghanistan or elsewhere through the world because; among other reasons al Qaeda
is not a High Contracting Party to Geneva. (Bush 2002)
In 2002, the Office of Legal Counsel responded to the President s request of exploring the question
whether American officials have the right to use torture against suspected terrorists. Assistant Attorney
General Jay S. Bybee of the Office of Legal Counsel not only legalized the use of torture for U.S.
officials but also defined torture in the narrowest way. He defines torture as inflicting physical pain, or
any serious physical injury such as failure of organs or at the most

The DC flick Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice stayed true to its title, as the movie introduced the
first five members of the Justice League and ended with a hopeful note as Ben Affleck s Bruce Wayne

Thyroid Cancer
The thyroid gland is the gland that makes and stores hormones that help regulate the heart rate, blood
pressure, body temperature, and metabolism. Thyroid hormones are essential for the function of every
cell in the body. They help regulate growth and the rate of chemical reactions in the body. Thyroid
hormones also help children grow and develop. The thyroid gland is located in the lower part of the
neck, below the Adam s apple, wrapped around the trachea. It has the shape of a butterfly with two
lobes attached to one another by a middle part called the isthmus. The thyroid uses iodine, a mineral
found in some foods and in iodized salt, to make its hormones. The two most important thyroid
hormones are thyroxine (T4) and triiodothyronine ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If the gland appears to be enlarged, the physician may order further tests to diagnose or rule out
cancer. These tests include: a CT scan or ultrasonography. The ultrasound uses high frequency sound
waves that are emitted and received by a transducer that is passed over the neck region. The sound
waves penetrate the body, and by electronic readings, the sound waves are arranged on a computer
screen into a picture image of the thyroid gland and any tumors (Thackery 1058). Another test used is
the thyroid scan. A patient is given radioactive iodine to drink. After the iodine has been absorbed by
the thyroid, the patient must lie on his or her back with the neck region positioned under a scanner.
The information received by the scanner is then sent to a computer that displays a 2 dimensional
image of the thyroid used to identify areas in the thyroid that do not absorb iodine normally (Surks
165). The most accurate diagnostic tool for thyroid cancer is biopsy. The test is done in a hospital
operating room under a general anesthesia. A sedative is usually given by an injection about one hour
before the procedure. A small incision is made in the neck, and either side of the thyroid or the entire
lump is removed. The sample is sent to a laboratory to be examined. If thyroid cancer is detected, the
thyroid is removed (Shin 420).
There are basically four different types of treatments used on patients with cancer of the

Argumentative Essay On Single Sex Schools
Single sex education has been becoming more popular in recent years. In 2002, the No Child Left
Behind Act was passed. This was a major turning point in the advancement of single sex schools
because it loosened government restrictions. Since 2002, about 95 single sex public schools have been
established (Novotney). Historically, single gender education has been more prevalent in other
countries, such as New Zealand, Belgium, and the United Kingdom, than it is in the United States.
One reason that the United States has had far fewer single gender schools is because of the laws
concerning education that the states all follow. Also, single sex schools were not able to be financially
funded. This made it difficult for the United States to establish and continuously run many single sex
schools, especially government funded single sex public schools (Bigler and Signorella 659). With the
advancement of the number of single sex schools, questions and controversies have arisen. Parents
began questioning what type of education best suited their child. Should parents send their children to
coeducational institutions, or single gender institutions? In which environment will students most
succeed? While data has come up inconclusive in this regard, it is still important for certain values to
be taught in schools. Parents want their children to succeed in their social skills, be tr. Coeducational
schools are the best option for students to be successful in school and in their future.

Genetic Disorder And Genetic Disorders
A genetic disorder is a disease that is caused by missing or abnormalities in the chromosomes of a
human. Finding out if an offspring has a genetic disorder can be determined by using basic genetics.
The Punnett Square, a diagram used to predict the results of a crossing or breeding of two species, can
determine the outcome of an offspring by using the genotypes of both parents. Pairing the genotypes
of both parents together can show the four different genotypes of offspring, two being female, and the
other two male. By using this method, parents can predict the probability of their child having a
genetic disease. Since most genetic disorders are recessive, if both parents have or are carriers of a
genetic disorder, the probability of their offspring having the disorder can range from twenty five to
one hundred percent.
Sickle Cell is a genetic disorder that affects red blood cells, causing them to become sickle, or
misshapen. This makes the hemoglobin in the red blood cell not able to move oxygen throughout the
body causing severe pain. Sickle Cell is genetic due to a person inheriting affected genes from their
parents, and both parents have to be carriers because the disorder is homozygous recessive. With two
carrier parents, the child has a twenty five percent chance of being unaffected, fifty percent chance of
being a carrier, and a twenty five percent chance of having Sickle Cell.
Cystic Fibrosis is a genetic disorder that mainly affects the lungs and digestive system

Mexican Folk Songs Or Corridos
Mexican folk songs or corridos have encounter great change over the years. Some of the changes of
corridos can be credited to the different culture we live in now. Corridos in the past have been about
the Mexican American War, but most recently corridos began to be about life struggles such as
immigration and the violent drug war. While the topics of corridos have changed over the years,
corridos keep a familiar format with focusing on key issues of oppression, daily life, and socially
relevant events. In addition, corridos may help spread attention to events going around society that has
not been brought up in the media. This at time may be informative or controversial depending on what
the artist feel like talking about. Corridos try be about current issues to stay revelate in the music

Essay on Banning Smoking in Public Places
In today s environment many suffer illnesses from pollution, and second hand smoke, and they seek
for cleaner air. About five years ago, the health department was successful in banning smoking in
public places and smokers needed to go outside unless companies set up a designated area for
smoking. Now, in Pierce County, smoking is banned in all public places such as restaurants, bars,
casinos, hotels and taverns. This has caused an up roar with the business owners losing customers and
money because of this ban. Within the health department satisfaction is in the environment because

their customers to take it outside.
Many customers are not happy with the idea of not being able to smoke while enjoying their time
playing pool, pull tabs, darts, watching the ball games and drinking. For years alcohol and smoking
has been a common entertainment for many people within the community. Banning smoking in these
establishments will not only cause profit loss with these companies but also within the tobacco,
alcohol industry and the state. Like anything else things trickle and many people are not understanding

As many people who are working in these establishments are seeking clean air and a better health,

Essay on America Should Not Use Military Force in Iraq
Dear Americans:
After the successful anti terrorism war in Afghanistan, are we going to fight another war on Iraq? In
almost every statement on foreign policy, Bush states his belief on his war against Iraq and depicts
Saddam Hussein as an evil. A recent poll showed that nearly seven in 10 supported military action to
force Saddam Hussein from power (Public Agenda). Before you make your decision, do you think a
war after Iraq is justified by International law and US law? Do you know the current situation and the
background of Iraq and the Middle East world? Do you think getting rid of Hussein can stop terrorists
attack on America? Have you thought about the huge capital cost of the war, the casualties of US
soldiers ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Now President Bush has declared his intention to wage a preemptive war against Iraq (Messineo and
Hilliard). Preemptive war means we can attack Iraq in the first place just because we believe Iraq is
supporting terrorists and we believe Iraq will attack us in the future. Then who can justify whether
what we believe is right or wrong? What if some terrorists attack us first just because they believe that
US will attack them in the future?
We can clearly see the injustice of the war by other countries responses. Fighting the al Qaeda
terrorists in Afghanistan was a right action against terrorists. Most countries around the world
supported us. But on the issue of war on Iraq, even though Bush tries his best to persuade other
countries leaders, most key countries are still against it (BBC news). For example, Germany argues
that international efforts to fight terrorism, rebuild Afghanistan and calm the conflict in the Middle
East could be destabilized by a strike against Iraq ; France has serious reservations about an attack on
Iraq ; Russia indicates that it might agree to attack Iraq only under UN authority if Baghdad blocks the
work of weapons inspectors (BBC news). Most Middle East Arabian countries are strongly against
military action on Iraq before every possible effort on peace talk has made and before the United

David Ives Sure Thing Analysis
The play Sure Thing by David Ives is about two people who meet at a small café. They start talking to
each other and each time someone says something wrong, or the conversation goes south, a bell rings
and they start over. In the end, they end up liking each other a lot and have a longer stretch of
uninterrupted dialogue. This play is a challenging piece to work with as a director since there isn t
much to it. However, if one were to look at it from a film production perspective, more could be done.
To enhance this piece, working with camera angles and background music will be the best way to go.
Since this piece is a lot of dialogue and very little movement, several different camera angles will be
needed to make it interesting. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Of course, music doesn t need to be under the whole thing. But they are in a café and cafés come with
noise, whether that be the machines, radio, or the other customers. Plus it is nighttime and people are
coming in and out of the café, so there is bound to be sound from the traffic and nightlife filtering in.
Music and background noise adds a really powerful aspect to any piece and sometimes the lack of
music makes a scene even more dramatic. However, building up music for intense scenes can pull the
audience in. For example, when Betty and Bill are really going at it and having to start over several
times (Ives 1053), I am picturing the music picking up speed and getting more intense with each ring
of the bell until it s built up to halt as soon as Betty says, Listen, I was headed to the movies... (Ives
1053). This would add a comedic value to the piece that I believe the audience would enjoy. David
Ives left future directors with a lot of wiggle room when he wrote Sure Thing. There are many
different directions a director could go in any aspect when taking on a piece like this. But, with any
film, the two most important thing to think about are camera angles and background music. When
those are done properly, everything else will fall into place. It s a sure

How Did The Second Temple Period Affect The Jewish
Introduction The Second Temple Period was an extremely diverse time in history. Several changes in
kings bought about major change among the Jews. The changes were obvious in religion, leaderships,
and accomplishments of the period. The numerous different leaders changed the foundation of the
Jewish people down to the core. In this paper I will review the various transitions that took place
during the second time period. It is evident that the changes that took place influenced the Jews in a
variety of ways. This paper will highlight those influences. What was the Second Temple Period? The
Second Temple Period was a time in history that bought about a lot of physical and spiritual changes.
Often in history one is able to see the affect that new leadership has on a particular area. The same can
be said about the Jews and the Second Temple Period. Formerly called the intertestamental period,
most scholars now prefer the term Second Temple Period For the time from the building of the Second

Examples Of Madness In Tell Tale Heart
Madness is an idea that has been widely explored and theorized throughout the ages, particularly
within Shakespearean literature and other works along those lines. It is nearly impossible to establish a
working definition of madness itself, because there are so many different forms of madness shown
throughout time, as well as different contexts. It breaks down to subjectivity, along with time and
place, and situational circumstances. In Edgar Allan Poe s Tell Tale Heart, a perhaps unusual form of
madness rears it s head, the madness of passion, and how too much exertion on a single passion may
in fact lead to madness. Tell Tale Heart explores the idea of passion operating as a gateway for
madness, which is then followed by a state of delirium, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Foucault also states that delirium is essentially the most integral part of madness when he states: this
remorse, this belief, this hallucination, these speeches, in short, this complex of convictions and
images which constitutes a delirium. (96) Although Foucault was referring to an example from
Diemerbroek, a man who suffered from melancholia, it is clear that these same principles are
applicable to the hallucinations and delusions the narrator experiences in Tell Tale Heart. The
heightened sense of hearing for instance, shows that the narrator not only felt that he or she had a
superior sense of hearing that allowed them to hear things the average human wouldn t hear, such as a
person s heartbeat from a distance, or people having a normal volume level conversation from afar,
but it also shows that the narrator believed that this sense of hearing was real, rather than it being
imagined, which it most likely was. As far as the speeches Foucault is referring to, it is apparent that
the narrator experiences these as well, perhaps not in the traditional speaking to another person form,
but more along the lines of giving the

The Powerful Use Of Abuse In Sweat By Zora Neale Hurston
Sweat Looka heah, Sykes, you done gone too fur. Ah been married to you fur fifteen years, and Ah
been takin in washin for fifteen years. Sweat, sweat, sweat! Work and sweat, cry and sweat, pray and
sweat! Does living with abuse help you gain the strength to become a stronger woman? Also, when
does enough become enough? Such a quote is found in Zora Neale Hurston s short story, Sweat . This
quote expresses the discussion theme better than any story that has ever been told before about abuse
that is endured during a relationship. This quote helped me realize many different things that women
tend to go through in a relationship. A lot of times women take abuse, whether it is physical, mental or
emotional abuse. Society also tends to put women in a category that is beneath a man, which may give
a man the thought of him having power over women, but in actual reality this is called abuse. The
definition of abuse is the improper use of something, and that is exactly what is happening to Delia in
Sweat .
Zora Neale Hurston was considered one of the pre eminent writers of twentieth century African
American literature. Hurston was closely associated with the Harlem Renaissance. She has also
influenced writers such as Ralph Ellison, Toni Morrison, Gayle Jones, Alice Walker, and Toni Cade
Bambara. Looking at her work, it can be found to be read as a work of feminist fiction, but it is not
why you would think it would be. The quote also possess that the character is faced with

Describe The Relationship Between Putin And Thomas Hobbes
Russia s power has increased a lot over the past few years. Not only has their nation increased power,
so has their leader, Vladimir Putin. Putin has many interesting aspects as a person and in his
governmental styles. He gained these from many different people including Thomas Hobbes, and John
Locke. Vladimir Putin s policies are both supported by John Locke and Thomas Hobbes, but when it
comes to Vladimir Putin as a person only Hobbes is right.
Putin believes that one man can control all and prevent damage from occurring. While working in the
KGB he began discovering the power and strength one man can have. He started to think along the
lines of Thomas Hobbes; believing the ideas that all men are evil and need one ruler to control them.

Although, he may have militaristic views on safety and relations he still tries to make his country a
better place. He focuses on benefiting his country s wealth and the general well being of the citizens of
Russia. Under Vladimir Putin, Russia has managed to significantly reduce the arrears to international
financial institutions ( )Although he may have a intense personality, when it comes to government and
his people he tries to make their life better. Putin maybe want all control but he can t have that if his
own country is thinking of a revolt. To prohibit this He pays off the debts they had with other
countries. Russia has understood what debts can do to your people when they are being prolonged to
pay off. Although Putin may want to be their one supreme leader he can not accomplish that if he has
to worry about possible revolutions. When some people first come to office, they typically try to make
their plans happen. This wasn t the case when Vladimir Putin came to power. When Putin came to be
president he was a faced with a serious issue that was previously left for him, he had to solve the
Ukraine conflict. The power of the Society, or legislative, constituted by them, can never be supposed
to extend farther that the common good. (Locke) This shows that Putin did this to better the good of
his people, while doing so he also made his country even safer than it was originally. Solving the
Ukraine conflict allowed people within and around that area to feel safer. Instead of being neutral in
the situation like other countries, he got involved. Putin may appear fierce but he has a soft spot for
the safety of his own and others.
Vladimir Putin s personality and his policies are all based off Hobbes and Locke. When describing
Putin s personality Hobbes was the better comparison point. But, when it comes to his policies, they
can be both represented by Hobbes and

What Is The Estimation Of The Forest Femining Methods
With increase in the amount, quality and accessibility of the remote sensing data on one hand, and
advancement, ease of use and capability of the open source machine learning and statistical tools, on

By far, linear regression is the most well understood algorithm in statistics and machine learning

Random Forest (RF) and Support Vector Machine (SVM) are two machine learning approaches that
has been successfully implemented in several studies and resulted in the significantly better results

RF is the ensemble classification technique based on the many random decision trees classifiers.
Decision tree is the classification approach that relate the target point to the predictor based on the

Elizabeth Bishop Research Paper
Elizabeth Bishop is a remarkable poet; she contributed to the Postmodern era experiment of the 20th
century when poets played with nontraditional forms and intricate verse. She wrote exactly 101 poems
exploring diverse topics such as death and alcoholism. Bishop rose to prominence after she published
her first collection of poetry, North and South, and published her first novel along with eighteen new
poems in Poems: North and South A Cold Spring, nine years later. Critics through the ages praise
Bishop for her detailed imagery, and her influence in the postmodern poetry is noteworthy to this day.
Elizabeth Bishop had a fractured childhood. She was born in Worcester, Massachusetts February 11,
1911. Within eight months of her birth, her father, William Thomas Bishop, died due to inflammation
of the kidneys. The trauma of his death led to Elizabeth Bishop s mother, Gertrude May Blumer,
mental insanity and eventual admission to a mental asylum. Although these events occurred very early
on in her life, Bishop managed to create accurate descriptions of these experiences in her poems.
However, it is difficult to determine the exact moment when the full weight of these early losses began
to influence her writings since only a few poems ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

of certain species is affecting the area s biodiversity.
Background Information In this lab we explored how biodiversity can be loss in an ecosystem due to

When I did this lab with my group an invasive species was not introduced until the 15th year, as you
can see in Figure 1. As a result, we could not observe how badly an invasive species could affect
different native species. Even though the starling species, our invasive species, was introduced the last
year it still shrunk the grasshopper and red headed woodpecker population by one. Many factors
contributed to the loss of biodiversity in the forest community. These factors were disease, human
activities (deforestation and their pets/strays), weather, pesticides, and invasive species. Many diseases
spread through the forest killing nine American toads in year 7 and two oak trees each year (refer back
to Figure 1 to see). In addition, field mice tried to take shelter in a nearby residence where they were
eaten by cat, poisoned and encountered mouse traps. Then, roadways needed to be made, trees and
grassland were removed twice, and neighborhood cats ate one red headed woodpecker, cottontail
rabbit, black rat snake, and field mouse. Also, the ecosystem experienced a dry day, a brush fire, and
acid rain. The acid rain killed three oak trees and killed one more oak every successive year.
Additionally, pesticides were sprayed onto a field that harmed insects and their predators, which
include five grasshoppers, two American toads, two red headed woodpeckers. Finally, our one
invasive species did not greatly impact the ecosystem, except for killing one red headed woodpecker

  • 2. Transition From Transitional Lava Types Transition From Pahoehoe to A a In its most general sense, as the flow advances away from the vent, core temperature decreases leading to an increase in viscosity and ultimately marks a transition from pahoehoe to a a. This point of transition is most often referred to as the transition threshold (Peterson Tilling, 1980). Lava which continues to deform even after it has become highly viscous, may reach this threshold and subsequently changes to a a. There are many factors which govern this change, and will be discussed in the proceeding section. Transitional lava types have been studied, such as the rubbly pahoehoe observed from the Laki flows, Iceland, of 1783 84 (Guilbaud, 2005), and slab pahoehoe on Kilauea (Peterson Tilling, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Due to this regard, it was first considered to be impossible (MacDonald, 1953). Factors Controlling Emplacement of Pahoehoe A a flow As discussed above, pahoehoe morphology forms from hotter, more fluid lava, and a a from critically stressed and highly viscous lava. As already alluded to, Peterson Tilling (1980) recognised an inverse relationship between viscosity and shear rate; if viscosity is low, a high rate of shear is required to begin transition to a a, giving rise to its characteristic brecciated surface. Likewise, if viscosity is high, a lower rate of shear will induce a transition. This section will discuss the most significant factors governing the transition. Effusion Rates During a magmatic episode, a high discharge rate of magma is likely to produce lava fountaining high into the air. It is inferred that the higher the fountaining, the more exposure the lava has to cool air, thus increasing its viscosity. Further, with a high flow rate, lava continues to move even if viscosity and yield stress is high. This continues up to a point at which surface disruptions can no longer be healed , and the transition threshold is duly reached. Rowland (1990) is one such advocate, attributing differences in lava type on Kilauea to differences in volumetric flow rate. Rowland concluded that: ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. American Fighter Pilot Brigadier General Robin Olds Essay Brigadier General Robin Olds Throughout military history, there have been many leaders that can be considered either visionary or ethical. This paper will discuss how BG Robin Olds was a visionary leader, but not a very ethical leader. From the beginning of his career, he was a visionary in aerial combat tactics and a true believer of leading from the front. His vision of aerial combat was beyond his years, but often fell upon deaf ears due to his flamboyant nature. He never hesitated to say exactly what was on his mind, which is why his actions could be considered unethical. But, his men loved him, and would follow him to hell and back. First, this paper will discuss BG Olds visionary leadership abilities he displayed the Viet Nam ... Olds displayed intellectual humility, as a part of his critical thinking skills, to change the current thinking of using the highest ranking individual as flight lead, versus putting the pilot with the most experience in that position...it should be based off skill, not rank. Even being the Wing Commander, Olds often wore a flight suit without rank, and let his lower ranking, more qualified officers lead the mission (badass, 2012). A true sign of being a visionary and transformational leader, Olds used the all of the 4 I s (Individualized Consideration, Intellectual Stimulation, Inspirational Motivation, and Idealized Influence) while making these decisions, and his men loved him for it (CF02SG, 2012, pg 22 23). He fostered inclusive environments by putting the whole wing under the same 24 hour clock as the combat crews, and visited the support organizations to find out the true problems and help fix them (Boyne, 2008). Now that BG Olds visionary leadership traits have been discussed, let s explore his ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Beer Simulation Root Beer Simulation At the outset, I have to acknowledge that I had a problem with this simulation. Initially, in my first two orders, I confused the backlog and inventory sections, so that I believed I had a significant surplus in inventory. Therefore, rather than minimizing the bullwhip of supply and demand, I exacerbated the problem by limiting my supply well below the number of orders coming in, much less below what I could fill with the backlog and incoming orders. This error on my part certainly led to increasing instability, not only in my own incoming orders, but also in the entire supply chain. The simulation also kept auto filling my initial order, which was only 10,000 cases, despite me ordering a significantly larger number of cases. I could not get the simulation to operate properly and allow me to place a larger order. It kept auto ordering the 10,000 cases. I could not get it to place an order other than 10,000 cases. Because of this glitch, I continued to increase my backlog. I simply could not order more than 10,000 cases. I address this issue because the glitch certainly impacted my opinion of the computer simulation as a means of learning. In this scenario, the initial computer simulation was absolutely worthless as a learning tool. I made an error in my first order, but I do not think that error was meaningful. Instead, it appears that whatever number of cases I placed in my initial order would be the number of cases ordered over the next several ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Effects Of Greek Mythology The myths of Zeus, Hera and the other Olympians are well known worldwide, as are those of the many demigod heroes, such as Hercules and Daedalus. Although their stories are familiar, the effects that they had on life in Ancient Greece and the rest of the world is unknown to most people. Although many may not know it, Greek mythology had a large effect on life in Ancient Greece through names, religious practices and places, festivals, architecture, and wars. The first way that Greek mythology affected daily life in Ancient Greece was through its effect on the names of places in Greece, many of which we still hear today. Major cities in Ancient Greece were often named after the gods so that the cities could receive special blessings ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When money was made, Athena was also pictured on both sides of the coins for a time. Although not all cities renamed themselves after the patron god, this is a very well known way that Greek mythology affected life in Ancient Greece. Another way that the names of places were affected by Greek myths is through its effect on religious practices and sacred places. One such place that was important to the Greeks was the sacred place of Delphi. Delphi was dedicated to Apollo, the god of prophecy. It is also believed by the Greeks to house its namesake, the Oracle of Delphi, which would proclaim prophecies to those that worshipped it and made sacrifices. People from all over Greece flocked to this area to give offerings to the Oracle in hopes of receiving a prophecy. Another sacred place to the Greeks was Mount Olympus. Mount Olympus was the tallest mountain in Greece, and was believed to be the home of the gods. It was chosen as such because in Greek mythology, this is the place where the gods took their stand against their parents, the Titans. In this battle, the gods climbed the mountain to attack from out of range of the Titans. After winning the battle and becoming the supreme deities of Greece, the gods have resided there ever since. Even more, the base of the mountain the home of the nine muses, goddesses of the arts. • 6. Hillary Clinton Debate Summary On September 26, the first presidential debate of the 2016 election was held between Democrat Hillary Clinton and Republican Donald Trump. The debate was divided into six segments approximately fifteen minutes long, each beginning with a question chosen by the moderator, Lester Holt of NBC Nightly News. The topic of Achieving Prosperity opened the debate, focusing of jobs and taxes. America s Direction was the subject of the next two segments, which consisted primarily of questions based on the racial divide in America. The final matter of the night was Securing America . Clinton also brought attention to the fact that Trump encouraged the mortgage crisis that contributed to the United States recession between 2007 and 2009, telling the audience, ... Donald was one of the people who rooted for the housing crisis. He said, back in 2006, Gee, I hope it does collapse, because then I can go in and buy some and make some money. Well, it did collapse. Trump responded to Clinton s claim with, That s called business, by the way. This discussion showed the American people that Trump cared more about his personal gain than the well being of the general population. Finally, Clinton s comments on the racial divide in America pleases both people of color and the nation s police officers. • 7. The Effect Of Prostaglandins On The Inflammation Pathway... The role of prostaglandins in the inflammation pathway and the mechanism of action of NSAIDs Student ID: 51555517 Date: 11 11 2015 Inflammation is a defense reaction, whereby harmful factors are removed and tissue structure and function are restored. During the acute phase of inflammation, first neutrophils will arrive, followed by monocytes. The monocytes mature into inflammatory macrophages and will finally affect the function of the resident tissue macrophages [Figure 1]. These responses lead to swelling, redness, heat and often pain. Once the first stimulus is removed, the reaction will stop and the inflammatory cells will be returned to pre inflammatory numbers. Prostaglandins play an important role in immune reactions and are therefore often targeted by anti inflammatory drugs, such as non steroid anti inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). The specific role of prostaglandins and the mechanism of action of NSAIDs will be discussed (Ricciotti; FitzGerald, 2011). Figure 1. Basic diagram of acute inflammation (Reilkoff; Bucala et al., 2011) Prostaglandins in general Prostaglandins are formed when arachidonic acid is released from the plasma membrane by phospholipases [Figure 2]. This acid is metabolized by PGG/H synthase or cyclooxygenase (COX). The four main bioactive prostaglandins are generated in vivo: prostaglandin E2 (PGE2), prostacyclin (PGI2), prostaglandin D2 (PGD2) and prostaglandin F2 (PGF2). ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. The Impact Of Modern Social Workers On The Community Introduction Modern social workers participate actively in helping people to obtain rights, services, benefits and opportunities that they might not otherwise obtain through micro policy advocacy, ?often prioritize the needs of vulnerable populations when they engage in advocacy? (Jansson, 2016, p. 21). Through community immersion, the social worker gains an understanding of the community attributes and desiderata, requiring them to utilize their experience and expertise to advocate policies that will satisfy the client?s needs (NASW, n.d.). Furthermore, when social workers immerse themselves in the community, it becomes an act of care and concern to serve the community. Compelling them to implement new changes, depict workable intervention schemes, and generate attainable treatment plans to satisfy the needs of the individuals, families and community. The community that will be addressed in this paper is National City. It is located five miles south of downtown San Diego and ten miles away from the US Mexico border in Tijuana. Thyroid hormones are essential for the function of every cell in the body. They help regulate growth and the rate of chemical reactions in the body. Thyroid hormones also help children grow and develop. The thyroid gland is located in the lower part of the neck, below the Adam s apple, wrapped around the trachea. It has the shape of a butterfly with two lobes attached to one another by a middle part called the isthmus. The thyroid uses iodine, a mineral found in some foods and in iodized salt, to make its hormones. The two most important thyroid hormones are thyroxine (T4) and triiodothyronine ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If the gland appears to be enlarged, the physician may order further tests to diagnose or rule out cancer. These tests include: a CT scan or ultrasonography. The ultrasound uses high frequency sound waves that are emitted and received by a transducer that is passed over the neck region. The sound waves penetrate the body, and by electronic readings, the sound waves are arranged on a computer screen into a picture image of the thyroid gland and any tumors (Thackery 1058). Another test used is the thyroid scan. A patient is given radioactive iodine to drink. After the iodine has been absorbed by the thyroid, the patient must lie on his or her back with the neck region positioned under a scanner. The information received by the scanner is then sent to a computer that displays a 2 dimensional image of the thyroid used to identify areas in the thyroid that do not absorb iodine normally (Surks 165). The most accurate diagnostic tool for thyroid cancer is biopsy. The test is done in a hospital operating room under a general anesthesia. A sedative is usually given by an injection about one hour before the procedure. A small incision is made in the neck, and either side of the thyroid or the entire lump is removed. This was a major turning point in the advancement of single sex schools because it loosened government restrictions. Since 2002, about 95 single sex public schools have been established (Novotney). Historically, single gender education has been more prevalent in other countries, such as New Zealand, Belgium, and the United Kingdom, than it is in the United States. One reason that the United States has had far fewer single gender schools is because of the laws concerning education that the states all follow. Also, single sex schools were not able to be financially funded. This made it difficult for the United States to establish and continuously run many single sex schools, especially government funded single sex public schools (Bigler and Signorella 659). With the advancement of the number of single sex schools, questions and controversies have arisen. Parents began questioning what type of education best suited their child. Should parents send their children to coeducational institutions, or single gender institutions? In which environment will students most succeed? • 16. Genetic Disorder And Genetic Disorders A genetic disorder is a disease that is caused by missing or abnormalities in the chromosomes of a human. Finding out if an offspring has a genetic disorder can be determined by using basic genetics. The Punnett Square, a diagram used to predict the results of a crossing or breeding of two species, can determine the outcome of an offspring by using the genotypes of both parents. Pairing the genotypes of both parents together can show the four different genotypes of offspring, two being female, and the other two male. By using this method, parents can predict the probability of their child having a genetic disease. Since most genetic disorders are recessive, if both parents have or are carriers of a genetic disorder, the probability of their offspring having the disorder can range from twenty five to one hundred percent. Sickle Cell is a genetic disorder that affects red blood cells, causing them to become sickle, or misshapen. This makes the hemoglobin in the red blood cell not able to move oxygen throughout the body causing severe pain. Sickle Cell is genetic due to a person inheriting affected genes from their parents, and both parents have to be carriers because the disorder is homozygous recessive. With two carrier parents, the child has a twenty five percent chance of being unaffected, fifty percent chance of being a carrier, and a twenty five percent chance of having Sickle Cell. Music and background noise adds a really powerful aspect to any piece and sometimes the lack of music makes a scene even more dramatic. However, building up music for intense scenes can pull the audience in. For example, when Betty and Bill are really going at it and having to start over several times (Ives 1053), I am picturing the music picking up speed and getting more intense with each ring of the bell until it s built up to halt as soon as Betty says, Listen, I was headed to the movies... But once we have both the specifications and the approval, you can immediately start on developing the production processing system (g). Yes and how I wish we could get a led on that, but the designers say that there is too much uncertainty and they won t move until they have both specifications and regulatory documentation and approval. They are offering pretty fast response; six weeks from start to finish for the processing system. They are a good crew, Mike. And of course, you know that you don t have to delay on starting the packaging system segment of this project. You can start developing the packaging concept (e) just as soon as the product rationale has been developed. If my experience is any judge, it will take a full eight weeks; you ll have to work to keep the process from running forever. But as soon as that is finished we can start on the design of the package and its materials (f) which usually takes about six weeks. Once that is done we can start ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 29. The Powerful Use Of Abuse In Sweat By Zora Neale Hurston Sweat Looka heah, Sykes, you done gone too fur. Ah been married to you fur fifteen years, and Ah been takin in washin for fifteen years. Sweat, sweat, sweat! Work and sweat, cry and sweat, pray and sweat! Does living with abuse help you gain the strength to become a stronger woman? Also, when does enough become enough? Such a quote is found in Zora Neale Hurston s short story, Sweat . This quote expresses the discussion theme better than any story that has ever been told before about abuse that is endured during a relationship. This quote helped me realize many different things that women tend to go through in a relationship. A lot of times women take abuse, whether it is physical, mental or emotional abuse. Society also tends to put women in a category that is beneath a man, which may give a man the thought of him having power over women, but in actual reality this is called abuse. The definition of abuse is the improper use of something, and that is exactly what is happening to Delia in Sweat . Zora Neale Hurston was considered one of the pre eminent writers of twentieth century African American literature. Hurston was closely associated with the Harlem Renaissance. She has also influenced writers such as Ralph Ellison, Toni Morrison, Gayle Jones, Alice Walker, and Toni Cade Bambara. Looking at her work, it can be found to be read as a work of feminist fiction, but it is not why you would think it would be. The quote also possess that the character is faced with ... • 30. Describe The Relationship Between Putin And Thomas Hobbes Russia s power has increased a lot over the past few years. Not only has their nation increased power, so has their leader, Vladimir Putin. Putin has many interesting aspects as a person and in his governmental styles. He gained these from many different people including Thomas Hobbes, and John Locke. Vladimir Putin s policies are both supported by John Locke and Thomas Hobbes, but when it comes to Vladimir Putin as a person only Hobbes is right. Putin believes that one man can control all and prevent damage from occurring. While working in the KGB he began discovering the power and strength one man can have. He started to think along the lines of Thomas Hobbes; believing the ideas that all men are evil and need one ruler to control them. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Although, he may have militaristic views on safety and relations he still tries to make his country a better place. He focuses on benefiting his country s wealth and the general well being of the citizens of Russia. Under Vladimir Putin, Russia has managed to significantly reduce the arrears to international financial institutions ( )Although he may have a intense personality, when it comes to government and his people he tries to make their life better. Putin maybe want all control but he can t have that if his own country is thinking of a revolt. To prohibit this He pays off the debts they had with other countries. Russia has understood what debts can do to your people when they are being prolonged to pay off. Although Putin may want to be their one supreme leader he can not accomplish that if he has to worry about possible revolutions. When some people first come to office, they typically try to make their plans happen. This wasn t the case when Vladimir Putin came to power. When Putin came to be president he was a faced with a serious issue that was previously left for him, he had to solve the Ukraine conflict. The power of the Society, or legislative, constituted by them, can never be supposed to extend farther that the common good. (Locke) This shows that Putin did this to better the good of his people, while doing so he also made his country even safer than it was originally. Solving the Ukraine conflict allowed people within and around that area to feel safer. Instead of being neutral in the situation like other countries, he got involved. Putin may appear fierce but he has a soft spot for the safety of his own and others. Vladimir Putin s personality and his policies are all based off Hobbes and Locke. When describing Putin s personality Hobbes was the better comparison point. But, when it comes to his policies, they can be both represented by Hobbes and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 31. What Is The Estimation Of The Forest Femining Methods With increase in the amount, quality and accessibility of the remote sensing data on one hand, and advancement, ease of use and capability of the open source machine learning and statistical tools, on the other hand, machine learning approaches have become very popular and powerful methods for estimation of the forest biomass in the recent years. cite{Iftikhar} By far, linear regression is the most well understood algorithm in statistics and machine learning compared to any other machine learning tools. Table 2 summarizes the studies that has been done on estimation of the biomass using LiDAR techniques. Linear mixed effects (LME) regression is the extended version of the linear regression model and applicable for the cluster data ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There are several ways to select the best features. cite{Thomas}. Also, it has been shown that selection of the number of the features for classification, neighbors and the predictors are very deterministic in the quality of the classification cite{NLi}. Random Forest (RF) and Support Vector Machine (SVM) are two machine learning approaches that has been successfully implemented in several studies and resulted in the significantly better results compared to KNN or other regression models. For example, in the study by Fassnacht et al.cite{Fassnacht 2014} using LiDAR and Hyperspectral data, it has been shown that RF model produce a better forest aboveground biomass prediction compared to other tested methods. RF is the ensemble classification technique based on the many random decision trees classifiers. Decision tree is the classification approach that relate the target point to the predictor based on the simple decision criteria. Decision tree can easily become unstable and result in the very complex decision boundaries, therefore Random forests are used to improve the accuracy of the prediction and also controls the over fitting cite{Thomas}. It has been shown that a large number of features can be handled by RF cite{Liai}. RF also, has been reported to have higher accuracy in predicting biomass compared to ... • 32. Elizabeth Bishop Research Paper Elizabeth Bishop is a remarkable poet; she contributed to the Postmodern era experiment of the 20th century when poets played with nontraditional forms and intricate verse. She wrote exactly 101 poems exploring diverse topics such as death and alcoholism. Bishop rose to prominence after she published her first collection of poetry, North and South, and published her first novel along with eighteen new poems in Poems: North and South A Cold Spring, nine years later. Critics through the ages praise Bishop for her detailed imagery, and her influence in the postmodern poetry is noteworthy to this day. Elizabeth Bishop had a fractured childhood. She was born in Worcester, Massachusetts February 11, 1911. Within eight months of her birth, her father, William Thomas Bishop, died due to inflammation of the kidneys. The trauma of his death led to Elizabeth Bishop s mother, Gertrude May Blumer, mental insanity and eventual admission to a mental asylum. Although these events occurred very early on in her life, Bishop managed to create accurate descriptions of these experiences in her poems. However, it is difficult to determine the exact moment when the full weight of these early losses began to influence her writings since only a few poems ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Bishop decided to stay in Brazil for a couple months. While living there, Bishop met an architect named Lota de Macedo. The two became very close and had an affair that lasted years. Unfortunately, Lota de Macedo committed suicide in 1967. As a result, Bishop wrote her most famous poem, One Art. In the poem, Bishop discusses how easy it is to lose things. She starts with small, insignificant objects, such as keys, but as the poem continues, the objects become more significant. For example, the last thing the speaker says is, Even losing you (the/ joking voice, a gesture /I love) I shan t have lied. This line is thought to be a reference to her relationship with ... • 33. Nature And Invasive Species Essay Objective The objective of the lab was to understand how random events in nature and invasive species affect the growth of certain species in an ecosystem. As a result, a species population could decrease or increase due the events that happen. In addition, the lab shows how the decreasing growth of certain species is affecting the area s biodiversity. Background Information In this lab we explored how biodiversity can be loss in an ecosystem due to random events and invasive species. To begin with, Biodiversity is the varieties of organisms and complex ecological relationships that give the biosphere its unique, productive characteristics. (Cunningham 227) It is usually recognized by species. Biodiversity is important because certain ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When I did this lab with my group an invasive species was not introduced until the 15th year, as you can see in Figure 1. As a result, we could not observe how badly an invasive species could affect different native species. Even though the starling species, our invasive species, was introduced the last year it still shrunk the grasshopper and red headed woodpecker population by one. Many factors contributed to the loss of biodiversity in the forest community. These factors were disease, human activities (deforestation and their pets/strays), weather, pesticides, and invasive species. Many diseases spread through the forest killing nine American toads in year 7 and two oak trees each year (refer back to Figure 1 to see). In addition, field mice tried to take shelter in a nearby residence where they were eaten by cat, poisoned and encountered mouse traps. Then, roadways needed to be made, trees and grassland were removed twice, and neighborhood cats ate one red headed woodpecker, cottontail rabbit, black rat snake, and field mouse. Also, the ecosystem experienced a dry day, a brush fire, and acid rain. The acid rain killed three oak trees and killed one more oak every successive year. Additionally, pesticides were sprayed onto a field that harmed insects and their predators, which include five grasshoppers, two American toads, two red headed woodpeckers. Finally, our one invasive species did not greatly impact the ecosystem, except for killing one red headed woodpecker and a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
