A Brief Note On Arizona State University For Admission
I am applying to Arizona State University for admission to the Master of Science Program in
Industrial Engineering. I am interested in learning subjects like Statistics, Operational research,
Computer aided manufacturing, six sigma, Product development, Project management, Supply chain
management, Quality control and Information systems engineering.
I was brought up in a small village in India, where agriculture was the primary occupation. My father,
being a farmer could not either use modern equipment or adopt good farming practices in agriculture
to get high yields. It was because he lacked formal education in his life. He realized that education is a
key to replace an empty mind with an open one. He felt that higher quality education is the need for
my future. So, he encouraged me to apply for Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya (JNV) schools run under
The Ministry of Human Resource Development in India. JNV schools were specifically tasked with
finding talented students in rural areas of India and provide them with higher quality education. I got
admission in this top tier school based on merit in the entrance exam. After getting admission in this
school, I had to stay away from my parents in a residential hostel. During that time, I have learned to
be self dependent, disciplined and sportive.
While I was preparing for the Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya school entrance exam, I have developed
an interest in Mathematics. Since then, I started learning more about Mathematics. This

My Reflection Of A Trip To The Courtroom
I went to the Lindsey Flanigan Courthouse on Friday August 25, 2017. Before the visit, I expected the
courthouse to look like the courthouses I have visited in New York or Atlanta. Inside the courtroom
was different than expected and the rooms were smaller, but I think that is because it was only a
docket. I have never sit in on a docket case, but I assumed the courtroom etiquette would be the same
as all other cases. I expected there to be silence in the gallery, with some hushed whispers if
conversation was necessary. In the case that I watched, other lawyers were having full conversations
in the first row of the gallery, right behind the prosecutor. I also expected the prosecutor and defense
to address the judge and question the witness from the same general area, but the prosecutor spoke
from a podium closer to the judge while the defense spoke from a podium right next to his desk. The
docket case that I watched was about felony menacing. I was unsure what felony menacing was prior
to visiting court that day, but as the case progressed the definition became a little bit clearer. The key
players in the case were the judge, prosecutor, defense and defendant, and the key witness was the
arresting officer. The defendant was arrested because the police received a call about a driver on the
road waving his gun around threatening other drivers. One of the officers responding to the call stayed
with the victim, while the other went to look for the car described in the call. Following a hint, the
arresting officer found the car in a parking lot and pulled in behind it. Upon seeing the officer exit his
car, the defendant walked out of a business with his hands in the air, saying I didn t do it. The officer
had the defendant walk toward him with his hands still in the air; when the defendant was close
enough, the officer handcuffed him. After the defendant was handcuffed through questioning the
officer determined that the defendant had weapons in the car and had an altercation with the victim
that his partner was with. The defense made a motion to suppress some of the defendant s statements
because he believed they were made during an unlawful interrogation. The defense believed that
because the

Fatty Liver
There are many genetic disorders in the world that are caused by a mutation or difference in
chromosomes. Many chromosomal disorders include Down s Syndrome, Maternal Acute Fatty Liver,
and many more. Maternal Acute Fatty Liver is a rare chromosomal disorder that affects pregnant
women in the third trimester in which there is an excessive accumulation of fat in the liver or cells of
the liver. Though fat does normally collect in the liver, excessive amounts can lead to liver damage.
The disorder is unique to pregnancy, so it only affects women of all races and of child bearing age.
Although the exact manner of development of the disorder is unknown, it has been linked to an
abnormality in fetal fatty acid metabolism or an irregularity in the

Gender Stereotypes In The Sitcom American Dad
American Dad is an animated TV sitcom created by Seth MacFarlane, Mike Barker, and Matt
Weitzman to characterize the different members of an american family. MacFarlane and his colleagues
put a twist on the average family by exaggerating each member s role. The main characters in the
series are Stan Smith who plays the father, Francine Smith playing the mother, Roger who is an alien
and must disguise himself to keep from being noticed, Steve Smith who is the son, Hayley Smith the
liberal daughter, and Klaus Heissler who plays a german olympic ski jumper trapped in the form of a
fish. The idea for American Dad was born during the election period in which the Bush administration
was prevalent. The creators were frustrated with the battle amongst potential presidents, especially
with Bush and they decided to create a show to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It seems as if it is taboo to talk about women s menstruals especially around males but when it comes
to everything else dealing with women and their bodies, men would engage in the discussion and care
about the topic at hand. Francine continues to show Stan that they could save money and he
continuously ignored her requests. This is an example of how women are deemed more responsible
and conservative than men. Stan was so focused on his truck meanwhile Francine was focused on
what would help the entire household. The last example that I pulled from this episode about women
was when the daughter, Hayley Smith was talking to Klaus about convincing her father to turn him
back into a human. Klaus was upset with her for stating her opinion because she is a female and she is
a liberal therefore, anything that she says to her father will not be considered. This is another
stereotype that females are unstable and do not make good decisions which is something that the
creators try to play

The Biggest Slippery Slope-Personal Narrative
I was running down the field against Inter Lakes biggest rival Moultonborough. As the ball floats
through the air heading towards the goalie I know I can reach, but I knew it would be close. As I
approached the now rolling ball, I realize that the goalie would make it just before me. Desperate for a
goal I go to the last resort and decide to slide for the ball. I slide as quickly as possible which resulted
in me getting the slightest of touch on the ball that it slips past the goalie. I now realized that I had a
chance to score the goal I had worked for since the beginning of the game. With the goalie out of
position, I go to propel my body back up with my hand. As my hand hits the frozen fall ground it bent
back and the sound of my bone braking ran through my body.
I have to get back up and score the goal my brain was saying but my body was in shock and I laid
there in the cold grass. The ref blew the whistle and my good friend Brandon comes over to help me
while the others tell my coach to get out on the field or wait for me to get back up.
You good? asked Brandon.
I responded with, Yeah I m good but I broke my wrist. .
Brandon looked up and gave my coach a sign that something had broken.
By then my coach had ordered everyone for some space and he knelt down and said, Whats wrong .

A Study On A Practicum
A practicum offers a unique opportunity to utilize theories and competencies learned in an educational
setting, and apply them to a real world experience. Additionally, a practicum allows students to
experience working within an organizational structure, building interpersonal communication skills,
and learning from experience. The ability to apply public health theory and knowledge, while gaining
professional experience is an integral part in the course of meeting educational and career goals. In the
following analysis, I will discuss how my experience applies to the aforementioned practicum
benefits.
Biostatistics competencies were the main focus of the completed practicum. Specifically, the
practicum allowed me to conduct a statistical data analysis of a study focusing on student performance
and integrative health interventions. Using SPSS, I ran bivariate correlations for more than 150
variables. Within the results, I was tasked with distinguishing a statistical association between the
variables and student performance. The multitude of correlations will lead to submission of the results
for consideration of publication. In addition to bivariate correlations, I also completed more than 250
One Way ANOVA tests, and 187 Repeated Measures tests. In addition to the SPSS analyses, I also
completed a full Pittsburg Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) analysis and calculation, and ran correlations
on the results. Part of my PSQI analysis involved finding relevant studies that had

Jesus In The Chronicles Of Narnia
Aslan, in the Chronicles of Narnia, represents Jesus for many reasons. One main reason is that Aslan
gives his life to save Edmund in the same way that Jesus sacrificed his own life to save us. Edmund
was known as a traitor and the only way to remove that label was to get blood. Similarly, the only way
to pay the price of sin is for a sinless person to die. Aslan s death itself parallels Jesus . When Aslan
gives himself up for Edmund, the White Witch has him tied up and bound to the table, which is meant
for a traitor. All the creatures on her side mock and beat Aslan. The White Witch calls him Aslan the
Great . In the same way, Jesus gives up his life for us. He is nailed to a cross, which is meant for a
criminal, mocked and beaten. A sign ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are also two girls and two boys, likewise, Noah took two of each animal on the ark. When Lucy
first goes to Narnia she meets Mr. Tumnus who takes her back to his house for tea. He then begins to
play an instrument and while he plays Lucy starts to see creatures dancing in the fire. When she falls
asleep a lion s face jumps out of the fire and fire goes out. This reminds me of when Jesus rebukes
demons and sends them out of people. The White Witch likes to call herself the Queen of Narnia and
think she is more powerful than Aslan but she is not. Likewise, Satan likes to believe that he is more
powerful than Jesus, but he too is not. After Peter, Susan, Lucy, and the Beavers realize that Edmund
is gone and that he most likely is going to the White Witch they frantically pack up and leave the
Beaver s dam. This is similar to when the Israelites flee Egypt in the exodus. Like the Israelites had to
cross the Red Sea, the Pevensies and the Beavers cross the Great River while it is un thawing. The
Witch s wolves are chasing them and drown like the Egyptian soldiers. Mr. Beaver tells Peter, Susan,
and Lucy that only Aslan can save Edmund much like only Jesus can save us. When Aslan goes to the
Witch s castle after he comes back to life, he breathes on the statues to make them come back to life.
This can be taken two different ways. The first is how Jesus brought people back to life. The second is
a metaphor. Our hearts are cold and hard before we know Jesus, like how Narnia is frozen and some of
the creatures are stone, but then Jesus comes into our lives and makes us warm and alive. Like how
when Aslan came to Narnia it became spring. Lastly, the war between Aslan and the White Witch is
like the spiritual warfare going on between God and Satan. She wants the Pevensies and Narnians
killed but Aslan is fighting for

Education During The Progressive Era
During the early twentieth century in the United States of America there were several national reform
movements that comprise the Progressive Era. There are a few different varieties of Progressivism that
focused on receiving governmental aid in improving American life. Individuals involved in the
reforms associated themselves as Progressives and focused on issues such as education, labor matters,
inequality, women s rights, and political and government corruption. The impact of education on the
American youth in the early twentieth century was based on methods to produce useful American
citizens. Progressives struggled to extend school programs to include realistic components into the
education young children should receive. Progressive education ... Show more content on

Transformative Power Of Travel
The Transformative Power of Travel Travel has the ability to take an individual out of their mundane
routine and places them into a whole new world where their brains are free from the repetition that
keeps them trapped. This sense of independence allows them to explore and discover their true
identity apart from their daily life. Pico Iyer s short essay, Why We Travel discusses the notion that
travel is a complex, powerful, and necessary tool for self discovery and knowledge. Alfred Hitchcock
s 1950 s film North by Northwest tells the tale of mistaken identity of a two timed divorced
advertising executive, Roger Thornhill, who finds himself on the run and in constant imminent danger.

that the professor did not fully disclose that by putting himself in danger he would not actually save

of doing something good. However, now that the professor turned the tables and did the same thing to

major character transformation in Roger Thornhill. Not only does Roger discover what manipulation

Statistics in India Today Past Perfect, Future Tense!

Today we are all used to the idea of young Indian techies traveling all across the world providing IT
solutions and services. But hardly anyone knows that a similar trend started 50 years ago. What? You
ask incredulously. But there were no computers then, let alone PCs. Very true. Those techies were
statisticians, helping many nations, some free and others still in colonial bondage, in their attempts at
development. How did this come about? To answer such a question, we have to trace a little bit of
history. Statistics is a young discipline, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Not only has the educational establishment been unresponsive to changes in the business world, there
is lack of response to changing technology scene as well. We need to develop new statistical tools to
analyze satellite imagery as well as medical images such as MRI. To my knowledge only a couple of
statisticians work on problems of interpreting such images. Use of micro array chips in genetics and
related fields is on the rise. Again very peculiar statistical problems are involved in interpretation of
these measurements. In the absence of good statistics, conclusions drawn (e.g. genes selected for
further work) may go wrong more often. Again no thrust has been developed in this area. Lack of
purpose and focus is apparent in the fact that even in areas of traditional strength, our grip is loose. A
good example is sample surveys. Two founding fathers of statistics in India, namely P C Mahalanobis
and P V Sukhatme, both recognized and emphasized the role of statistical sample surveys. India
became well known for achievements in theory and practice of sample surveys. The situation has
changed a lot since then. Most experts in the field have retired and the number of new entrants is
miniscule. There is hardly any serious research being done in the country on survey methodology.

Essay on A Summary of Bram Stoker s Dracula
A Summary of Bram Stoker s Dracula
Dracula is an epistolary novel, meaning that is composed from letters, journal and diary entries,
telegrams, and newspaper clippings.
Jonathan Harker, Mina Murray (later Mina Harker), and Dr. Seward write the largest contributions to
the novel although the writings of Lucy
Westenra and Abraham Van Helsing constitute some key parts of the book. The novel has a slightly
journalistic feel, as it is a harrowing account supposedly written by the people who witnessed the book
s events. A young Englishman named Jonathan Harker travels through Transylvania on a business trip.

Eerie things happen one night, Mina finds her unconscious in the cemetery, as a figure with glowing
eyes bends over her. The figure disappears as Mina comes closer, but night after night strange events
continue and Lucy grows thinner and paler with each passing day.
Word comes from Budapest that Jonathan has been found, sick with brain fever. He can remember
nothing of his travels in Transylvania. Mina goes to nurse him back to health and to help him make the
trip back to
England. When she arrives, they marry immediately. He gives her his diary but is afraid to read it; she
seals the diary and promises that she will never read it unless it is for his sake.
Back in England, Lucy has returned to her home in London. Arthur, fearful for her health, asks Dr.

of his old mentor, the brilliant Professor Abraham Van Helsing. Van

He tries to use various charms, as well as constant blood transfusions, to keep Lucy alive. Again and

The Battle Of Gettysburg By Bruce Caton
The Battle of Gettysburg took place on July 1st 3rd, 1863 (Gettysburg: heading). The battle occurred
in and around the town of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania which is located in Adams County. Gettysburg is
located in a very rocky area and has a lot of hills. It is a market town and its population is made up of
mostly farmers (The Battle of Gettysburg 1863: Page 5: Paragraph 2: Line 1). This battle was part of
the civil war and is known as the turning point of this war. Gettysburg is also known as one of the
bloodiest battles ever fought in America ( The Battle of Gettysburg by Bruce Caton: Introduction:
Paragraph 2: Line 1). A large cause of the civil war was the difference of opinion on whether slavery
should be abolished in the United States. The southern states relied on slave labor to make money. The
north did not need slavery as much as the south did because it was more industrialized. The fighting
took place between the Union and Confederate armies. The northerners were the Union and the
southerners were the Confederates. This war altered the nation as a whole because both sides were
from the United States. The country was fighting with itself. The battle of Gettysburg played a very
large role in the war. Many would argue that this was not the most important battle of the civil war, but
others would say that it affected the outcome of the war in a very large way. The Battle of Gettysburg
was a major battle in the civil war between the Union and Confederate armies.

Stigma In Dallas Buyers Club
Erving Goffman maintained that negative labels are often stigmatizing. He believed that stigmas result
in a spoiled identity. Goffman coined the term stigma to describe the labels society uses to devalue
members of certain social groups (pg. 107). He identified three categories or types of stigmas:
abominations of the body, blemishes of individual character, and tribal. When a person became aware
of a certain stigma they had been labeled to, Goffman noted three ways to manage it: hide the stigma,
distance themselves from the stigma or try to correct it, and embrace or accept the stigma. The movie
Dallas Buyers Club offers a chance to see several stigmas brought to light, and the way that each was
handled. For instance there are examples of HIV/AIDS, homosexuality, feminism, and criminal
activity that are prevalent and shape the way the movie is organized. Dallas Buyers Club is based on a
true story of Ron Woodruff, a Texan redneck, who is outspokenly homophobic, works as an
electrician, and lives in a small unit in a trailer park. Ron first appears at the Rodeo, where riding and
gambling seem to be his favorite pastimes along with promiscuous sex, consuming copious amounts
of alcohol and snorting cocaine. One day at work, he suffers a substantial injury that mandates his
blood be drawn. He is diagnosed with HIV (and later contracts AIDS), sending his life into a
downward spiral of isolation and dilemma. The doctors inform Ron that not only is he HIV positive,

These are plasma proteins which are released into the blood stream, mainly produced in the liver by
the hepatocytes (Cray et al., 2009) as part of the Acute Phase Response (APR), that either increase or
decrease in response to the tissue damage (Jain et al., 2011; Stahl, 1987; Gruys et al., 2005). The APR
is a non specific and complex systemic reaction, part of the early defense or innate immune system,
which is triggered by different stimuli such as infections, trauma and inflammations in order to
reconstitute homeostasis and induce healing (Cray et al., 2009; Tothova et al., 2014). As well as in
humans, APP in animals are sensitive to similar triggering events in response to inflammatory stimuli.
A variety of APP have been recorded, such as: fibrinogen, haptoglobin (HP), serum amyloid A (SAA);
C reactive protein (CRP); ceruloplasmin (CER), major acute phase protein (MAP) and α1 acid
glycoprotein (AGP) (Stahl, 1987; Gruys et al., 2005); differentiating their levels according to each
species (Cray et al., 2009; Eckersall and Bell, 2010). Thus, APP have been described for their
application in human medicine to diagnose and prognosticate different inflammatory and organ
diseases. However; altered levels of APP monitored in animals might provide an alternative method to
measure conditions or situations that may be influencing the concentration of these proteins in plasma
(Tothova et al., 2014). For instance, in livestock; APP have been presented as markers of health

The Issues Of Technology And Technology
Introduction
Within this essay the issues to be discussed are problems about technology. Information technology is
very important in today s world and is used daily by many people all across the continents.
Information technology has its pros and cons like other technology does, but one of the major
problems are security and privacy. The main issue of this topic would be cyber threats to computer
networks. Examples are threats involving denial of service attacks, malicious software, sniffers and
more.
About Technology
Technology is a very important aspect in life that is used on a daily basis. Technology is the
application of scientific knowledge for practical purposes. There are many different types of
technology used throughout the world today. Some are assistive technology used by individuals with
disabilities, medical technology that refers to the diagnostic or therapeutic application of science and
technology to improve management of health conditions, Communication technology, Information
technology, transport technology and defense technology. Information technology is a term that
contains all forms of technology that are used to create, store, exchange, and use information in its
various forms. Examples are those such as business data, voice conversations, still images, motion
pictures and much more.
Information technology can be used in a good or bad way in today s world. It can help to promote
stability and security or it can threaten security at the same time.

Theseus And Hippolyta
Time, as according to Theseus, is working against him and he comments on how slow this old moon
wanes! (Shakespeare 1). Whereas, Hippolyta thinks four days will quickly steep themselves in night
(1). The differing views in their statement presents that Theseus is rather impatient and expects
everything to be at his beck and call due to his high position as a king and being a man. Hippolyta, on
the other hand, knows and has experience of waiting for that of interest to her so she has no qualms
about patiently waiting. Also, Theseus puts blame on the moon for the long hours and Hippolyta
quickly refutes that statement by expressing the moon is not but a way to show time for the night in
which they could sleep the hours away, making the night

Incivilities In Neighborhood
Neighborhood disorder, broadly defined as the social and physical incivilities within a neighborhood
(Sampson Raudenbush, 1999), affects residents perceptions of fear and safety (Austin, Furr Spine,
2002; Yavuz Welch, 2010). Social incivilities could include drunk people in public space or
panhandlers while physical incivilities include litter or deliberate property damage. Wilson s and
Kelling s broken windows theory (1982) provides social sciences with the most well known model of
neighborhood disorder, which posits that the presence of physical and social incivilities lead to greater
fear among neighborhood residents. Consequently, a cycle of perpetual social breakdown within the
neighborhood occurs.

robberies/muggings, gang fights, and fights with weapons) affect women s perceptions of safety.
Furthermore, even less is known about how men respond to violence within their neighborhoods. The
literature suggests that men are more prone to fears of confrontation or robbery, therefore, men s
perceptions of safety may revolve around community violence, such as robberies/muggings, gang
fights, or fights with weapons, and less around sexual

Alabama Geography
When people hear Alabama they probably think about football and the South, however, what many
people don t realize is that Alabama is made up of a vast array of geologic properties and has a lot to
offer Geologists. Rock formations date back from 2.5 billion years old to 1,800 years old and vary in
type from sedimentary, igneous, and metamorphic (Tew. Ebersole, 2013). Alabama also consists of
piedmonts, fossils, fossil fuels, and waterways. If you travel from the Southwest corner of the state up
to the Northeast corner of the state you will come across many different rocks and landforms.

Rocks in this region are from the Mesozoic and recent times and therefore are considered geologically
young compare to other regions in the state (Tew. Ebersole, 2013). The Piedmont Upland region in
East Central Alabama is composed of the oldest rocks in Alabama. In this region you will find granitic
gneiss (a gneissic rock with a general granitoid composition), amphibolite (a crystalloblastic rock
consisting mainly of amphibole and plagioclase with little or no quartz), and migmatite (a composite
of mixed rock) dating back to the Precambrian and Paleozoic ages (Schweitzer, 2013). This is the only
part of Alabama with this type of rock composition, but it is also where the southernmost part of the
Appalachian Mountains dips into Alabama. This part of the Appalachian Mountains are characterized
by low rolling hills and the reason there is a special combination of rocks in this area is because
piedmonts usually consist of the remnant of a mountain (Schweitzer, 2013). The Piedmont Upland
only consumes about nine percent of all of Alabama (Tew. Ebersole, 2013). The North and

My Natural Characteristics Of The Management Consulting...
Learning becomes an essential aspect of an individual s way of life, as there is nothing greater than
knowledge being inculcate through the process of learning. As rightly quoted by:.. Being a part of the
management consulting module instilled in me an in depth understanding to be an effective consultant
that could relate, analyse and apply specialist skills in helping the organisations achieve their purpose
and objectives by solving management and business problems ultimately seizing new opportunities,
enhancing learning and implementing changes for the future. Highlighting my natural characteristics
of being a logical thinker and operational planner, the assigned summer project would strengthen and
amplify my knowledge and understanding of wider issues surrounding the business and industry,
moreover it would make me responsive to the ramification of future trends in the market environment.
For this reason I was looking forward to working as a team on project Formica, which is world s

Rhetoric And Rhetoric
There are various models of rhetoric that have been applied in speeches, especially in the political and
social world. For a long time, the world has been exposed to the persuasive model of rhetoric that has
dominated most of the speeches we have had. A different approach to rhetoric has however not
received the attention that it deserves. The rhetoric approach is called invitational model of rhetoric.
The invitational approach promises to bring more impressive and long term results as opposed to the
traditional model of rhetoric. This essay will examine and compare the traditional and the invitational
models of rhetoric.
Traditional Model of Rhetoric
The artifact identified for purposes of this assignment is titled I have a Dream made by Martin Luther
King in August 1963 at the Lincoln Memorial in Washington. The speech has been identified as a
perfect example of the traditional models of rhetoric that sought to persuade. To understand this
speech completely, it is crucial to understand the setting and the time during which it was made and
who made it. The speech was delivered during the height of the American Civil Rights Movement that
had taken over the whole country. The leader of this movement, civil rights activists Martin Luther
King made the speech in front of a packed crowd that cheered on his every sentence; they wanted to
send a message to the whole of America.
The speech is a good example of a traditional model of rhetoric because of several factors. Firstly,

direct how care should be provided and what the ramifications of non compliance will have on the
health care provider and the organizations where services are rendered. There are various kinds of

regulations, and policies all have the same requirements, benefits, and implications, but there are

Institutional versus Legislative Policies in Health Care Merriam Webster s dictionary online defines an
institution as a place where an organization takes care of people for a usually long period of time
(n.d.). Thus, an institutional policy is a set of standards established by the institution that governs the
practices and procedures of the organization as it relates to its operations. Legislative policies in health
care are developed in the Legislative Branch of the Federal Government. It is mandatory for all health
care organizations to adhere to legislative policies; however, many institutional policies have a basis
of development within the legislative policies to ensure compliance for their organization. While
legislative policies are broad in nature to encompass various specialty areas in the health care industry,
institutional policies are more specific to the institutions goals and services provided within the
community.
Influence of Politics on Health Care Regulations, Laws, and Policies According to Bambra, Fox, and
Scott Samuel (2005), the health of every individual is affected by environmental factors such as
employment, income, and housing. Rules and regulations regarding environmental factors have
typically required governmental intervention to ensure that each factor is approached fairly; without

The Molecular Docking Method Essay
In silico methods became widely used in the fields of structural molecular biology and structure based
drug design with the rapid increase in computational power. Molecular docking [2 4] is one of these in
silico techniques.
Docking is a method which predicts preferred orientation (on the basis of binding energy) of one
molecule to the second to form a stable complex. In the field of drug design, first molecule is usually
protein/enzyme/DNA and the second one is small organic molecule/small peptides as potential drug
candidate.
Knowledge of preferred orientation of ligand and protein used to predict binding affinity and to
discriminate high affinity drug candidates from the low affinity compounds. 2.6.1Lock and key

2.6.3 Search algorithms
The search space which the docking software should take into account theoretically consists of every
possible conformation and orientation of the receptor and ligand. While it is impossible to
exhaustively explore this search space, efficient search algorithm is able to explore its large portion
and identify global extrema (i.e. minima in the energy corresponding to the preferred conformations)
[22]. The docking problem can be handled manually with help of interactive computer graphics. This
solution may work, if we have a good idea of the binding mode of a similar ligand. Automatic
software will be however less biased than a human and will consider many more possibilities in much
shorter time frame.
2.6.4 Genetic algorithms
Genetic algorithms [25] are search methods that mimic the process of evolution by incorporation of
techniques inspired by natural evolution, such as inheritance, mutation or crossover. In genetic
algorithm, an initial population of one dimensional strings (called chromosomes), which encode
candidate solutions (individuals) evolves toward better solutions. In case of a molecular docking, each
individual may represent one possible system configuration and each string may contain information
about its conformation (e.g. values of angles of rotatable bonds). At the beginning,

John Keats s Ode To A Nightingale And Romantic Expressivism
Christopher Bell

ENGL 204
Dr. Callis
John Keats s Ode to a Nightingale and Romantic Expressivism John Keats s Ode to a Nightingale is
one of the most recognized and studied pieces of poetry from the 19th century, with the critic Allen
Tate even going on to say that this ode at least tries to say everything that a poet can say (Vendler).
Keats was an educated writer and knew very well what he was talking about and was able to do
amazing things with a simple string of words. Keats s piece is written in the time of Romantic
Expressivism and every word that he writes inside of Ode to a Nightingale accurately portrays the
themes and concepts of this time period briefness of our time on earth, mortality, a different and
sometimes confusing look at the world around us (whether through our own eyes or some force on
us), nature and all of its beauty, and the words that contain the strength to transport the reader to
another place or time. In order to understand Keats s Ode to a Nightingale and how it connects to
Romantic Expressivism, we first need to understand what Romantic Expressivism is and how it was
created. The last major poet to write in the 18th Century was Alexander Pope. He believed over was
built into the universe inside of the great chain of being. He believed there was a natural order
stretching down from God and the angels to the lowest form of life on earth. After him, writers, such
as Keats, came along to question this thought and

When Diving Into A Book Or A Piece Of Literature...
When diving into a book or a piece of literature structured like this one must keep an open mind to the
points of view they will encounter. This may not be the average book, for example it is different than
the other literary works that are often discussed in the classroom. Even though it is not a story like a
fairy tale is, this type of book is still enjoyable and easy to discuss. However, there is a huge amount
of opinions in the text of its pages. Even so, if one sticks to knowing that they are just opinions and
not fact it gives less a reason to get confused and can make this a more enjoyable read. It is not all
about the structure of the book but more of the main thoughts it s author is trying to convey through it
s text. There are a lot of things someone could point out while reading this book. One of the best ones
to focus on though would be found in the first chapter. It starts out talking about how serious West
Point is when building their leaders. A good thing about the start of this chapter is after the author
makes the point of how serious West Point is about their leaders he then gives a very interesting
phrase to get the whole point across the readers mind. The phrase or statement is, Leader of character ,
when this is brought

to the amount of stress that a teen has to deal with. The smartphone has created an environment in
which adolescents are always connected with those they go to highschool with, through the use of
social media. For example if a bully were to be picking on a student at school the student could not
just go home and forget about the incident, but now the bully has the ability to abuse that student at
any point he/she desires. These types of incidents are creating a new wave of problems for adolescents
and their parents, Nojiri Matthew interviewed Rick Wolf (assistant superintendent at Mifflin School

problems. If you were to take away the smartphone problems such as cyberbullying would be less of

Theme Of Family Dysfunction In King Lear
Family Dysfunctions in King Lear
No two snowflakes are alike. Similarly, every family s relationship is unique. William Shakespeare s,
King Lear, focuses on the similarities between the two families involved in the plot and subplot. The
plot consists of King Lear, who is fooled into believing that his eldest daughters, Goneril and Regan,
love him; however, he soon realizes the opposite as Goneril and Regan betray him in hopes of gaining
power. Fortunately, Cordelia truly loves her father and stays loyal to him, despite Lear s public
rejection of her. The subplot consists of Gloucester and his two sons Edgar and Edmund. Edgar is
Gloucester s natural son, and Edmund is Gloucester s illegitimate son a bastard. Edmund yearns for
the inheritance Edgar will receive from Gloucester, so he incriminates Edgar by forging a letter stating
that Edgar wants to kill his father. In William Shakespeare s, King Lear, the subplot of Gloucester and
his sons parallels the plot of King Lear and his daughters in that children betray their fathers, the
siblings betray each other, but there are loyal children who contrast the betrayal.
Noticeably, in both the plot and the subplot, the fathers are betrayed by their own blood, emphasizing
the injustice experienced by Lear and Gloucester. In the main plot, Goneril and Regan scheme against
Lear in order to avoid the obligation of caring for him in his old age. When Lear visits Goneril in her
castle, she discloses to Oswald her scheme of getting Lear

As the writer becomes older, the people surrounding the writer are becoming bitterer. People are never

Because of the presence of this telescreen and the other surveillance cameras throughout this

how powerful, respected and feared the head of these mafia families are but also how dangerous their
lifestyle is with Don Corleone head of the mafia being nearly assassinated for refusing a deal with
their rival family. Family is extremely important to Italian Americans which is evident throughout The
Godfather one aspect of their ethnicity which is not over exaggerated or false, but this extreme loyalty
which is portrayed by Michael Corleone when his father is assassinated shows how brutal the mafia
can be because of their loyalty. The film defines Italian Americans as loyal but also willing to use
violence as an answer to all their problems. Retaliating with even more violence is the norm to these
mafia families and they see no wrong is doing so. The Godfathers depiction of Italian Americans I
believe has had an impact on the mainstream perceptions of them as an ethnic group because the film
depicts that the mafia is a crucial part of their life and that acts of violence to protect their families are
acceptable, this kind of ethnic stereotyping has been damaging to Italian Americans in America who
do not associate themselves with this mafia

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Electoral System
The Oxford Dictionary (Oxforddictionaries.com, 2016) defines an election as a formal and organised
choice by vote of a person for a political office or other position . This is the same in all democratic
countries, however, no two countries have the exact same procedure for carrying out elections. There
are many ways in which elections can differ from state to state, for example, does the entire
population have the same choice of people to vote for or is the voting based on constituencies, or are
people voting for individuals or a whole party. The variation between them lies within the electoral
systems employed in each of these countries. Electoral systems are simply the rules of elections and
how they are conducted. The electoral system affects the type and level of interaction between
politicians and constituents (PR STV and localism in Irish politics, 2011).
In Ireland, since gaining independence in 1922, representatives of Dáil Eireann have been elected by
proportional representation by single transferable vote (Gallagher, 2016). In 1937 it was set out in
Bunreacht na hEireann that Dail Eireann shall be composed of members who represent constituencies

This representation can sometimes mean a member of the Dáil prioritises the good of their own local
people instead of what is best for the state. Candidates in the general election have to make certain
promises to their community in the hopes of being elected and if elected have to do their best to ensure
they will be re elected by keeping their supporters content. This may not seem like such a negative
effect at first but it can result in a parliament, weakened by its members lack of focus on national
issues, and thereby unable to fully hold the government to account (PR STV and localism in Irish
politics,

How to Plan a Family Vacation Essays
How to Plan a Family Vacation
A penny saved is a penny earned. A job worth doing is worth doing right. We apply both of these
sayings to the working world all of the time. Why not apply them to our vacationing world as well?
Like most people, I look forward to a vacation, but planning it can become overwhelming if you re not
prepared. Planning a vacation should be fun and exciting. Vacationing is not always a priority to many
families due to economic distress, but as little as a few hundred dollars you can plan a weekend
getaway that s inexpensive but a lot of fun! The best vacation my family ever took was one that we
didn t stress on planning. My husband and I kept it simple. We packed our bags early and hid ... Show

Consider your finances and what you re willing to spend. After deciding on what weekend you ll be
leaving, finding a place to stay is the next thing to plan. Most places fill up early. Make hotel, car and
other reservations as soon as you can. Quality and prices vary with each hotel. Some rates are as low
as $30 a night, while some rates are as high as $200 a night or more. Picking a room that s not in a
scenic area or without a view is usually cheaper. Each hotel offers different rates and quality. More
expensive places offer kitchenettes, suites, fireplaces, heated pools, and more. Search online for
coupon codes, AAA, AARP, Military or Government discounts. For the least expensive trip, you could
plan a camping trip in a state park, but for some that would mean a larger expense of purchasing tents,
sleeping bags and camping gear. Unless you re prepared for a camping trip, plan to stay in a hotel or
cabin.
Have a checklist prepared when packing for your trip. Know what the climate will be during the times
that you re there. Know what days or nights you ll need formal clothing, casual clothing, or swimwear.
Make sure that you pack so you re not buying needed things that you may already have at home.
Consider the amount of luggage you re taking in case you ll be flying. Pack things such as moist
towlettes, money, passports, medicine and sunglasses. Consider small children when traveling as they
become bored and wear out easily. Pack plenty

Compare and Contrast Old and New Imperialism Essay
Compare and Contrast old and new imperialism
New Imperialism of the late 19th and early 20th centuries compared to Old Imperialism of the 16th
and 17th centuries. Imperialism is the spread of control over territories across the globe. The Industrial
Revolution and interests in nationalism created a new period of imperialism around 1750. Old
imperialism lasted from 1450 1750, but imperialism alone remained until 1914.Old imperialism and
new imperialism shared the same basic concept of controlling and utilizing foreign countries. Old
imperialism focused mainly on systems of trade while new imperialism took bolder steps to
overtaking nations. Old Imperialism was the period from 1450 1750

This led to a focus on a trading system because Europeans didn t want to take on territorial
responsibilities. During the Old imperialism era, Europeans set up trading posts, ports, and docks.
These trading centers benefited the places the mother country was supplying too. They had objectives
to protect their trading centers in native places and none to obtain territories in them. Europe s trade
within and between native lands led to cultural diversity which may have caused a small breach in
unity. However, the old Imperialism era ended due to high costs in taking over territories and too
much time to supply the mother country. There was no time to build up a superior, organized, skilled
army for anyone. Also, due to the Industrial Revolution there was now a faster more efficient way to
create and manufacture products. Throughout Western Europe, political authority was completely
controlled by central governments, while leaders, such as Isabela I, were busy with the concept of how
to increase the power of the state. National wealth was widely viewed as the groundwork of national
power, governmental controls soon dominated nearly all of the state s domestic economy.
The start of Old Imperialism was based on the military and naval power and the underlining motive
was essentially capitalistic. It began with sea explorations of the Spanish and Portuguese in the second
half of the 15th century. Prince Henry the

One Flew Over The Cuckoo s Nest Argumentative Essay
When medication fails to relax the symptoms of mental illness, there are other options that are tried.
Brain stimulation techniques such as electroconvulsive therapy, for example, can be used to treat
illnesses that have not responded to standard treatments. Electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) has been
used to treat psychiatric patients since the late 1938. The main reason for ECT treatments in North
America and Europe were to treat mood disorders (bipolar depression, and unipolar depression) and
schizophrenia (Pitidhammabhorn et al. 5). Milos Forman s unrealistic portrayal of electroconvulsive
therapy (ECT) in One Flew Over the Cuckoo s Nest negatively shaped the general public s
perceptions of this medical procedure. As a result, many unenlightened ... Show more content on

ECT was done in operating rooms by the psychiatric staff. Before the ECT was even administered, the
staff would make sure that the patient did not feel a thing during the procedure. Anesthetic drugs used
routinely are thiopental, or propofol and the typical muscle relaxant is succinylcholine
(Pitidhammabhorn, et al. 6). So, today s patients that receive ECT are given muscle relaxants and
anesthetic so they do not feel any pain. Also, patients are given electric shocks while they are
unconscious. With all of this said, the modified version of electroconvulsive therapy is completely
same and is not a brutal procedure because, the patients do not endure any pain throughout the whole
thing. ECT has become much safer than the dangerous past shown in One Flew Over the Cuckoo s
Nest. Electroconvulsive therapy has little resemblance to that depiction. ECT brings about fast results
compared to some other medications and treatments. After the shock, there is immediate relief to the
symptoms of many mental illnesses. The electric current only lasts for a few seconds and the seizure
lasts for about a minute. Many medications take weeks to become effective and ECT is an ideal option
for those people that need the relief right away. ECT has often worked when many other treatments

Living In Shanty Town
Have you ever in your life been dirt poor? Have you ever had to scavenge for things to trade or to
build your house with? The people of Shanty Town have been scavenging for a little while now.
Everyone who lives in Shanty Town has to scavenge for scrap so that they can trade that scrap for
food and maybe even clothes if the right person comes through town. It is 2030 and a devastating
thirteen year world war has left many countries to collapse and left in trash and ruins. It has only been
two years since they remaining countries (China, Russia, Germany, and Japan) have signed a truce,
but secretly, each country is just rebuilding their troops to have another war for total control of the
world. They have forgotten about the used to be once ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

take care of them for him. The group that was fight against The New Republic did not have a known

consisted of canned spinach and a couple of biscuits. He went out scavenging again to look for more
scrap and out there he saw a strange looking girl. Most of the town had turned to crime to feed
themselves. Seeing that this girl had a large amount of money on her, he went to sneak up on her and
steal the money, but she started to walk away so he quickened his pace. Before he got to her, she
opened a trap door and hopped inside. Confused that he had never discovered this door out here he
went up closer to it. It was camouflaged to look like a bunch of junk and actually remembered walking
past it the other day. Quietly, he opened it up and jumped through the hole to land on a stone floor
seven feet down. He crept through a somewhat open hallway to a door. It was a wooden door with a
door knob. He turned it and was thankful that it did not

Cesar Chavez A Hero
Cesar Chavez is a hero because he gave farm workers who were not educated enough to get better
working conditions. His life reflected his personality and his everlasting legacy proves unforgettable.
Cesar Chavez s biography shows a lot about the way he was raised and how that taught him his ways
and shaped his personality. Cesar was born on March 31, 1927 (Gonzales 22) and was subjected early
to intense destitution because his family was one of many migrant, Mexican American, families (Pao)
that rely on the money even if the conditions were terrible for any human. His experience of the farm
worker s life was what drove him to help other workers. Cesar and his father trudged twelve miles to
Yuma looking for a bank loan. They came back covered with dust and empty handed. (Terzian 7) He
had early experiences with upwards battles and it taught him how to manage them. Another time was
captured by James Terzian when he wrote about Chavez s dad taking care of his fellow workers. These
people are poor, ignorant peasants campesinos! They ll sleep anywhere, eat anything take any wage
you pay. Why waste your time and money on them, eh? said the neighbor. Cesar s dad responds, They
are children of God. They will get shelter and soap for as long as they work on my farm. (5). He was
raised to respect workers and understand that they are people too. Cesar Chavez started the United
Farm Workers on Oct 15, 1966 (Holmes). Cease new that the farm workers were living hard lives and

The Australian actor who portrayed the role of Josh Taylor in the soap opera Neighbours Liam
Hemsworth, covers the latest issue of Men s Fitness magazine, and in addition to talking about his past
engagement with the Party In The USA hitmaker Miley Cyrus, Liam who portrayed Marcus on the
children s television series The Elephant Princess, also opens up about his diet and exercise regime,
revealing that the actor recently took on a vegan diet.
When the Hunger Games actor was asked about what made him make a choice to change his eating
habits, 25 year old Hemsworth said, My own physical condition, and after all the information I

  • 2. A Brief Note On Arizona State University For Admission I am applying to Arizona State University for admission to the Master of Science Program in Industrial Engineering. I am interested in learning subjects like Statistics, Operational research, Computer aided manufacturing, six sigma, Product development, Project management, Supply chain management, Quality control and Information systems engineering. I was brought up in a small village in India, where agriculture was the primary occupation. My father, being a farmer could not either use modern equipment or adopt good farming practices in agriculture to get high yields. It was because he lacked formal education in his life. He realized that education is a key to replace an empty mind with an open one. He felt that higher quality education is the need for my future. So, he encouraged me to apply for Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya (JNV) schools run under The Ministry of Human Resource Development in India. JNV schools were specifically tasked with finding talented students in rural areas of India and provide them with higher quality education. I got admission in this top tier school based on merit in the entrance exam. After getting admission in this school, I had to stay away from my parents in a residential hostel. During that time, I have learned to be self dependent, disciplined and sportive. While I was preparing for the Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya school entrance exam, I have developed an interest in Mathematics. Since then, I started learning more about Mathematics. This ... • 3. My Reflection Of A Trip To The Courtroom I went to the Lindsey Flanigan Courthouse on Friday August 25, 2017. Before the visit, I expected the courthouse to look like the courthouses I have visited in New York or Atlanta. Inside the courtroom was different than expected and the rooms were smaller, but I think that is because it was only a docket. I have never sit in on a docket case, but I assumed the courtroom etiquette would be the same as all other cases. I expected there to be silence in the gallery, with some hushed whispers if conversation was necessary. In the case that I watched, other lawyers were having full conversations in the first row of the gallery, right behind the prosecutor. I also expected the prosecutor and defense to address the judge and question the witness from the same general area, but the prosecutor spoke from a podium closer to the judge while the defense spoke from a podium right next to his desk. The docket case that I watched was about felony menacing. I was unsure what felony menacing was prior to visiting court that day, but as the case progressed the definition became a little bit clearer. The key players in the case were the judge, prosecutor, defense and defendant, and the key witness was the arresting officer. The defendant was arrested because the police received a call about a driver on the road waving his gun around threatening other drivers. One of the officers responding to the call stayed with the victim, while the other went to look for the car described in the call. Following a hint, the arresting officer found the car in a parking lot and pulled in behind it. Upon seeing the officer exit his car, the defendant walked out of a business with his hands in the air, saying I didn t do it. The officer had the defendant walk toward him with his hands still in the air; when the defendant was close enough, the officer handcuffed him. After the defendant was handcuffed through questioning the officer determined that the defendant had weapons in the car and had an altercation with the victim that his partner was with. The defense made a motion to suppress some of the defendant s statements because he believed they were made during an unlawful interrogation. The defense believed that because the ... Many chromosomal disorders include Down s Syndrome, Maternal Acute Fatty Liver, and many more. Maternal Acute Fatty Liver is a rare chromosomal disorder that affects pregnant women in the third trimester in which there is an excessive accumulation of fat in the liver or cells of the liver. Though fat does normally collect in the liver, excessive amounts can lead to liver damage. The disorder is unique to pregnancy, so it only affects women of all races and of child bearing age. • 5. Gender Stereotypes In The Sitcom American Dad American Dad is an animated TV sitcom created by Seth MacFarlane, Mike Barker, and Matt Weitzman to characterize the different members of an american family. MacFarlane and his colleagues put a twist on the average family by exaggerating each member s role. The main characters in the series are Stan Smith who plays the father, Francine Smith playing the mother, Roger who is an alien and must disguise himself to keep from being noticed, Steve Smith who is the son, Hayley Smith the liberal daughter, and Klaus Heissler who plays a german olympic ski jumper trapped in the form of a fish. The idea for American Dad was born during the election period in which the Bush administration was prevalent. It seems as if it is taboo to talk about women s menstruals especially around males but when it comes to everything else dealing with women and their bodies, men would engage in the discussion and care about the topic at hand. Francine continues to show Stan that they could save money and he continuously ignored her requests. This is an example of how women are deemed more responsible and conservative than men. Stan was so focused on his truck meanwhile Francine was focused on what would help the entire household. The last example that I pulled from this episode about women was when the daughter, Hayley Smith was talking to Klaus about convincing her father to turn him back into a human. Klaus was upset with her for stating her opinion because she is a female and she is a liberal therefore, anything that she says to her father will not be considered. This is another stereotype that females are unstable and do not make good decisions which is something that the creators try to play ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. The Biggest Slippery Slope-Personal Narrative I was running down the field against Inter Lakes biggest rival Moultonborough. As the ball floats through the air heading towards the goalie I know I can reach, but I knew it would be close. As I approached the now rolling ball, I realize that the goalie would make it just before me. Desperate for a goal I go to the last resort and decide to slide for the ball. I slide as quickly as possible which resulted in me getting the slightest of touch on the ball that it slips past the goalie. I now realized that I had a chance to score the goal I had worked for since the beginning of the game. With the goalie out of position, I go to propel my body back up with my hand. As my hand hits the frozen fall ground it bent back and the sound of my bone braking ran through my body. I have to get back up and score the goal my brain was saying but my body was in shock and I laid there in the cold grass. The ref blew the whistle and my good friend Brandon comes over to help me while the others tell my coach to get out on the field or wait for me to get back up. You good? asked Brandon. • 7. A Study On A Practicum A practicum offers a unique opportunity to utilize theories and competencies learned in an educational setting, and apply them to a real world experience. Additionally, a practicum allows students to experience working within an organizational structure, building interpersonal communication skills, and learning from experience. The ability to apply public health theory and knowledge, while gaining professional experience is an integral part in the course of meeting educational and career goals. In the following analysis, I will discuss how my experience applies to the aforementioned practicum benefits. Biostatistics competencies were the main focus of the completed practicum. Specifically, the practicum allowed me to conduct a statistical data analysis of a study focusing on student performance and integrative health interventions. Using SPSS, I ran bivariate correlations for more than 150 variables. Within the results, I was tasked with distinguishing a statistical association between the variables and student performance. The multitude of correlations will lead to submission of the results for consideration of publication. In addition to bivariate correlations, I also completed more than 250 One Way ANOVA tests, and 187 Repeated Measures tests. In addition to the SPSS analyses, I also completed a full Pittsburg Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) analysis and calculation, and ran correlations on the results. • 8. Jesus In The Chronicles Of Narnia Aslan, in the Chronicles of Narnia, represents Jesus for many reasons. One main reason is that Aslan gives his life to save Edmund in the same way that Jesus sacrificed his own life to save us. Edmund was known as a traitor and the only way to remove that label was to get blood. Similarly, the only way to pay the price of sin is for a sinless person to die. Aslan s death itself parallels Jesus . When Aslan gives himself up for Edmund, the White Witch has him tied up and bound to the table, which is meant for a traitor. All the creatures on her side mock and beat Aslan. The White Witch calls him Aslan the Great . In the same way, Jesus gives up his life for us. He is nailed to a cross, which is meant for a criminal, mocked and beaten. A sign ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There are also two girls and two boys, likewise, Noah took two of each animal on the ark. When Lucy first goes to Narnia she meets Mr. Tumnus who takes her back to his house for tea. He then begins to play an instrument and while he plays Lucy starts to see creatures dancing in the fire. When she falls asleep a lion s face jumps out of the fire and fire goes out. This reminds me of when Jesus rebukes demons and sends them out of people. The White Witch likes to call herself the Queen of Narnia and think she is more powerful than Aslan but she is not. Likewise, Satan likes to believe that he is more powerful than Jesus, but he too is not. After Peter, Susan, Lucy, and the Beavers realize that Edmund is gone and that he most likely is going to the White Witch they frantically pack up and leave the Beaver s dam. This is similar to when the Israelites flee Egypt in the exodus. Like the Israelites had to cross the Red Sea, the Pevensies and the Beavers cross the Great River while it is un thawing. The Witch s wolves are chasing them and drown like the Egyptian soldiers. Mr. Beaver tells Peter, Susan, and Lucy that only Aslan can save Edmund much like only Jesus can save us. When Aslan goes to the Witch s castle after he comes back to life, he breathes on the statues to make them come back to life. This can be taken two different ways. The first is how Jesus brought people back to life. The second is a metaphor. Our hearts are cold and hard before we know Jesus, like how Narnia is frozen and some of the creatures are stone, but then Jesus comes into our lives and makes us warm and alive. Like how when Aslan came to Narnia it became spring. Lastly, the war between Aslan and the White Witch is like the spiritual warfare going on between God and Satan. She wants the Pevensies and Narnians killed but Aslan is fighting for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A P Gore Professor, Department of Statistics, University of Pune President, Indian Society for Probability and Statistics Today we are all used to the idea of young Indian techies traveling all across the world providing IT solutions and services. But hardly anyone knows that a similar trend started 50 years ago. What? You ask incredulously. But there were no computers then, let alone PCs. Very true. Not only has the educational establishment been unresponsive to changes in the business world, there is lack of response to changing technology scene as well. We need to develop new statistical tools to analyze satellite imagery as well as medical images such as MRI. Again very peculiar statistical problems are involved in interpretation of these measurements. In the absence of good statistics, conclusions drawn (e.g. genes selected for further work) may go wrong more often. Again no thrust has been developed in this area. Lack of purpose and focus is apparent in the fact that even in areas of traditional strength, our grip is loose. A good example is sample surveys. Two founding fathers of statistics in India, namely P C Mahalanobis and P V Sukhatme, both recognized and emphasized the role of statistical sample surveys. India became well known for achievements in theory and practice of sample surveys. The situation has changed a lot since then. The battle occurred in and around the town of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania which is located in Adams County. Gettysburg is located in a very rocky area and has a lot of hills. It is a market town and its population is made up of mostly farmers (The Battle of Gettysburg 1863: Page 5: Paragraph 2: Line 1). This battle was part of the civil war and is known as the turning point of this war. Gettysburg is also known as one of the bloodiest battles ever fought in America ( The Battle of Gettysburg by Bruce Caton: Introduction: Paragraph 2: Line 1). A large cause of the civil war was the difference of opinion on whether slavery should be abolished in the United States. The southern states relied on slave labor to make money. The north did not need slavery as much as the south did because it was more industrialized. The fighting took place between the Union and Confederate armies. The northerners were the Union and the southerners were the Confederates. This war altered the nation as a whole because both sides were from the United States. The country was fighting with itself. The battle of Gettysburg played a very large role in the war. Many would argue that this was not the most important battle of the civil war, but others would say that it affected the outcome of the war in a very large way. • 16. Stigma In Dallas Buyers Club Erving Goffman maintained that negative labels are often stigmatizing. He believed that stigmas result in a spoiled identity. Goffman coined the term stigma to describe the labels society uses to devalue members of certain social groups (pg. 107). He identified three categories or types of stigmas: abominations of the body, blemishes of individual character, and tribal. When a person became aware of a certain stigma they had been labeled to, Goffman noted three ways to manage it: hide the stigma, distance themselves from the stigma or try to correct it, and embrace or accept the stigma. The movie Dallas Buyers Club offers a chance to see several stigmas brought to light, and the way that each was handled. For instance there are examples of HIV/AIDS, homosexuality, feminism, and criminal activity that are prevalent and shape the way the movie is organized. Dallas Buyers Club is based on a true story of Ron Woodruff, a Texan redneck, who is outspokenly homophobic, works as an electrician, and lives in a small unit in a trailer park. Ron first appears at the Rodeo, where riding and gambling seem to be his favorite pastimes along with promiscuous sex, consuming copious amounts of alcohol and snorting cocaine. These are plasma proteins which are released into the blood stream, mainly produced in the liver by the hepatocytes (Cray et al., 2009) as part of the Acute Phase Response (APR), that either increase or decrease in response to the tissue damage (Jain et al., 2011; Stahl, 1987; Gruys et al., 2005). The APR is a non specific and complex systemic reaction, part of the early defense or innate immune system, which is triggered by different stimuli such as infections, trauma and inflammations in order to reconstitute homeostasis and induce healing (Cray et al., 2009; Tothova et al., 2014). As well as in humans, APP in animals are sensitive to similar triggering events in response to inflammatory stimuli. A variety of APP have been recorded, such as: fibrinogen, haptoglobin (HP), serum amyloid A (SAA); C reactive protein (CRP); ceruloplasmin (CER), major acute phase protein (MAP) and α1 acid glycoprotein (AGP) (Stahl, 1987; Gruys et al., 2005); differentiating their levels according to each species (Cray et al., 2009; Eckersall and Bell, 2010). A different approach to rhetoric has however not received the attention that it deserves. The rhetoric approach is called invitational model of rhetoric. The invitational approach promises to bring more impressive and long term results as opposed to the traditional model of rhetoric. This essay will examine and compare the traditional and the invitational models of rhetoric. Traditional Model of Rhetoric The artifact identified for purposes of this assignment is titled I have a Dream made by Martin Luther King in August 1963 at the Lincoln Memorial in Washington. The speech has been identified as a perfect example of the traditional models of rhetoric that sought to persuade. The Molecular Docking Method Essay In silico methods became widely used in the fields of structural molecular biology and structure based drug design with the rapid increase in computational power. Molecular docking [2 4] is one of these in silico techniques. In the field of drug design, first molecule is usually protein/enzyme/DNA and the second one is small organic molecule/small peptides as potential drug candidate. Knowledge of preferred orientation of ligand and protein used to predict binding affinity and to discriminate high affinity drug candidates from the low affinity compounds. 2.6.1Lock and key analogy Molecular ... While it is impossible to exhaustively explore this search space, efficient search algorithm is able to explore its large portion and identify global extrema (i.e. minima in the energy corresponding to the preferred conformations) [22]. The docking problem can be handled manually with help of interactive computer graphics. This solution may work, if we have a good idea of the binding mode of a similar ligand. Automatic software will be however less biased than a human and will consider many more possibilities in much shorter time frame. 2.6.4 Genetic algorithms Genetic algorithms [25] are search methods that mimic the process of evolution by incorporation of techniques inspired by natural evolution, such as inheritance, mutation or crossover. In genetic algorithm, an initial population of one dimensional strings (called chromosomes), which encode candidate solutions (individuals) evolves toward better solutions. In case of a molecular docking, each individual may represent one possible system configuration and each string may contain information about its conformation (e.g. values of angles of rotatable bonds). Keats was an educated writer and knew very well what he was talking about and was able to do amazing things with a simple string of words. Keats s piece is written in the time of Romantic Expressivism and every word that he writes inside of Ode to a Nightingale accurately portrays the themes and concepts of this time period briefness of our time on earth, mortality, a different and sometimes confusing look at the world around us (whether through our own eyes or some force on us), nature and all of its beauty, and the words that contain the strength to transport the reader to another place or time. In order to understand Keats s Ode to a Nightingale and how it connects to Romantic Expressivism, we first need to understand what Romantic Expressivism is and how it was created. The last major poet to write in the 18th Century was Alexander Pope. He believed over was built into the universe inside of the great chain of being. He believed there was a natural order stretching down from God and the angels to the lowest form of life on earth. After him, writers, such as Keats, came along to question this thought and ... • 41. The Stereotypes Of Italian-Americans In The Godfather Italy and America share a complicated history dating back to the 1800 s. More than 4 million Italians immigrated to America after the 1870 s which is more than 10% of the nation s foreign population. Italian Americans are an important ethnic society within America which have been stereotyped by the media for many years. An ethnic group can be defined as a group of people who share the same cultural background, language, ancestry or nation. Ethnicity and culture although some might find them to have the same meaning are not quite the same, culture is a way to describe human behaviour while ethnic groups are a primary characteristic of culture. Italian Americans as an ethnic group have had a huge impact on the media because of their love ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This film is a prime example as to why Italian Americans are stereotyped as members of the mafia with violent tendencies. These negative traits that are depicted through the characters are why people believe that Italian Americans are like the characters the play. The Godfathers depiction of the typical mafia gangster wearing the pin stripped suits and being extremely wealthy creates their identity and that identity is portrayed to us a viewer as to how Italian Americans really are. The Godfather portrays how powerful, respected and feared the head of these mafia families are but also how dangerous their lifestyle is with Don Corleone head of the mafia being nearly assassinated for refusing a deal with their rival family. Family is extremely important to Italian Americans which is evident throughout The Godfather one aspect of their ethnicity which is not over exaggerated or false, but this extreme loyalty which is portrayed by Michael Corleone when his father is assassinated shows how brutal the mafia can be because of their loyalty. The film defines Italian Americans as loyal but also willing to use violence as an answer to all their problems. Retaliating with even more violence is the norm to these mafia families and they see no wrong is doing so. The Godfathers depiction of Italian Americans I believe has had an impact on the mainstream perceptions of them as an ethnic group because the film depicts that the mafia is a crucial part of their life and that acts of violence to protect their families are acceptable, this kind of ethnic stereotyping has been damaging to Italian Americans in America who do not associate themselves with this mafia ... • 42. Advantages And Disadvantages Of Electoral System The Oxford Dictionary (Oxforddictionaries.com, 2016) defines an election as a formal and organised choice by vote of a person for a political office or other position . This is the same in all democratic countries, however, no two countries have the exact same procedure for carrying out elections. There are many ways in which elections can differ from state to state, for example, does the entire population have the same choice of people to vote for or is the voting based on constituencies, or are people voting for individuals or a whole party. The variation between them lies within the electoral systems employed in each of these countries. Electoral systems are simply the rules of elections and how they are conducted. The electoral system affects the type and level of interaction between politicians and constituents (PR STV and localism in Irish politics, 2011). In Ireland, since gaining independence in 1922, representatives of Dáil Eireann have been elected by proportional representation by single transferable vote (Gallagher, 2016). In 1937 it was set out in Bunreacht na hEireann that Dail Eireann shall be composed of members who represent constituencies ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This representation can sometimes mean a member of the Dáil prioritises the good of their own local people instead of what is best for the state. Candidates in the general election have to make certain promises to their community in the hopes of being elected and if elected have to do their best to ensure they will be re elected by keeping their supporters content. This may not seem like such a negative effect at first but it can result in a parliament, weakened by its members lack of focus on national issues, and thereby unable to fully hold the government to account (PR STV and localism in Irish politics, ... • 44. Compare and Contrast Old and New Imperialism Essay Compare and Contrast old and new imperialism New Imperialism of the late 19th and early 20th centuries compared to Old Imperialism of the 16th and 17th centuries. Imperialism is the spread of control over territories across the globe. The Industrial Revolution and interests in nationalism created a new period of imperialism around 1750. Old imperialism lasted from 1450 1750, but imperialism alone remained until 1914.Old imperialism and new imperialism shared the same basic concept of controlling and utilizing foreign countries. Old imperialism focused mainly on systems of trade while new imperialism took bolder steps to overtaking nations. This led to a focus on a trading system because Europeans didn t want to take on territorial responsibilities. During the Old imperialism era, Europeans set up trading posts, ports, and docks. These trading centers benefited the places the mother country was supplying too. They had objectives to protect their trading centers in native places and none to obtain territories in them. Europe s trade within and between native lands led to cultural diversity which may have caused a small breach in unity. However, the old Imperialism era ended due to high costs in taking over territories and too much time to supply the mother country. There was no time to build up a superior, organized, skilled army for anyone. Also, due to the Industrial Revolution there was now a faster more efficient way to create and manufacture products. Throughout Western Europe, political authority was completely controlled by central governments, while leaders, such as Isabela I, were busy with the concept of how to increase the power of the state. National wealth was widely viewed as the groundwork of national power, governmental controls soon dominated nearly all of the state s domestic economy. The start of Old Imperialism was based on the military and naval power and the underlining motive was essentially capitalistic. It began with sea explorations of the Spanish and Portuguese in the second half of the 15th century. Prince Henry the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 45. One Flew Over The Cuckoo s Nest Argumentative Essay When medication fails to relax the symptoms of mental illness, there are other options that are tried. Brain stimulation techniques such as electroconvulsive therapy, for example, can be used to treat illnesses that have not responded to standard treatments. Electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) has been used to treat psychiatric patients since the late 1938. The main reason for ECT treatments in North America and Europe were to treat mood disorders (bipolar depression, and unipolar depression) and schizophrenia (Pitidhammabhorn et al. 5). Milos Forman s unrealistic portrayal of electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) in One Flew Over the Cuckoo s Nest negatively shaped the general public s perceptions of this medical procedure. As a result, many unenlightened ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... ECT was done in operating rooms by the psychiatric staff. Before the ECT was even administered, the staff would make sure that the patient did not feel a thing during the procedure. Anesthetic drugs used routinely are thiopental, or propofol and the typical muscle relaxant is succinylcholine (Pitidhammabhorn, et al. 6). So, today s patients that receive ECT are given muscle relaxants and anesthetic so they do not feel any pain. Also, patients are given electric shocks while they are unconscious. With all of this said, the modified version of electroconvulsive therapy is completely same and is not a brutal procedure because, the patients do not endure any pain throughout the whole thing. ECT has become much safer than the dangerous past shown in One Flew Over the Cuckoo s Nest. Electroconvulsive therapy has little resemblance to that depiction. ECT brings about fast results compared to some other medications and treatments. After the shock, there is immediate relief to the symptoms of many mental illnesses. The electric current only lasts for a few seconds and the seizure lasts for about a minute. Many medications take weeks to become effective and ECT is an ideal option for those people that need the relief right away. ECT has often worked when many other treatments have ... • 47. Cesar Chavez A Hero Cesar Chavez is a hero because he gave farm workers who were not educated enough to get better working conditions. His life reflected his personality and his everlasting legacy proves unforgettable. Cesar Chavez s biography shows a lot about the way he was raised and how that taught him his ways and shaped his personality. Cesar was born on March 31, 1927 (Gonzales 22) and was subjected early to intense destitution because his family was one of many migrant, Mexican American, families (Pao) that rely on the money even if the conditions were terrible for any human. His experience of the farm worker s life was what drove him to help other workers. Cesar and his father trudged twelve miles to Yuma looking for a bank loan. They came back covered with dust and empty handed. (Terzian 7) He had early experiences with upwards battles and it taught him how to manage them. Another time was captured by James Terzian when he wrote about Chavez s dad taking care of his fellow workers. These people are poor, ignorant peasants campesinos! They ll sleep anywhere, eat anything take any wage you pay. Why waste your time and money on them, eh? said the neighbor. Cesar s dad responds, They are children of God.
