Hardness Of Hardness And Hardness Testing
Determination of the Hardness Numbers for a Range of Metallic Alloy their Subsequent
Correlation to Mechanical Strength
For the following assignment a laboratory session took place where a hardness test was conducted
on a range of materials named sample A, B and C. The aims of the experiment are to establish the
hardness number for a range of carbon steels using standard hardness testers in accordance with the
relevant British standard, to develop an understanding of the relationship between the material
strength with the said parameters and to gather the test result and determine whether the materials
are either low carbon steel, medium carbon steel or high carbon steel. A report will be produced
based on the laboratory experiment and the results found.

Introduction
Background on hardness testing
Hardness is a characteristic of a material and should not be confused as a fundamental physical
property. As stated by the metals handbook hardness is defined as the resistance of metal to plastic
deformation usually done by indenting the material. It s the ability of the material to stop itself
from being permanently deformed when you apply a load to it,

Jen Orr Raising Our Teacher Voices Analysis
Recently, I read an article by Jen Orr called Raising Our Teacher Voices: A Call for A New
Generation of Leadership . Ms. Orr is a teacher in nearby Fairfax County who was chosen as a 2013
ASCD Emerging Leader. Consequently, she was asked to serve as a panelist at ASCD s 2014
Whole Child Symposium.
Orr, like many others, believes that a teacher leader is someone who impacts education beyond their
own classroom ; however, she is quick to point out that she believes it is more than just the work
teachers accomplish with administrators within their own schools. Orr wants the idea of teacher
leaders to encompass far more than that.
I believe this model of teacher leadership, one in which teachers are actively and meaningfully
engaged in all

Dna Essay
The beginning of this story can be considered as a joke. We just opened the secret of life, said
one of two men, who entered the Eagle pub in Cambridge 64 years ago. Those people did not
exaggerated. One of them was Francis Crick, another James Watson. Watson and Crick discovered
structure of deoxyribonucleic acid a substance that contains all hereditary information. A few
months after the historic statement in the pub came a careful publication of the work of two
researchers in the journal Nature (Watson and Crick 738 740). The article ended with the
assumption that the discovery of the structure of DNAcould explain the copying mechanisms of
genetic material. With the structure of DNA in hand, molecular biology became the fastest... Show

Watson cut out of the cardboard four types of nucleotide models guanine (G), cytosine (C),
thymine (T) and adenine (A) and began to lay them on the table. He discovered that adenine
binds to thymine, and guanine to cytosine on the principle of key lock. It is in this way two
strands of DNA are connected together, that is opposite to thymine, one thread will always
contain adenine from the other, and nothing else. The two strands of the Watson Crick model are
complementary to each other, so that wherever an adenine appears on one strand, a thymine
occurs directly opposite from it in the other strand (Garland 219). Watson and Crick got the
Nobel Prize in1958. The discovery of the spatial structure of DNA revolutionized the world of
science and led to many new discoveries without which it is impossible to imagine not only
modern science, but also modern life as a whole. In 60th another important discovery was made the
genetic code. DNA contains information about everything that is inherited, including the linear
structure of each protein in the body. Proteins, like DNA, represent long molecular chains of
amino acids. There are 20 amino acids. Accordingly, it was unclear how the language of DNA,
consisting of a four letter alphabet, is translated into the language of proteins, where 20 letters . It
revealed that the combination of three nucleotides of DNA clearly

Compare The Visions Of Cecil John Rhodes And Olive Schreiner
Compare and Contrast the differing visions articulated around 1895 for South Africa s future by
Cecil John Rhodes and Olive Schreiner.
The vision for South Africa during the 1890 s saw for various issues that needed to be dealt with.
The visions of Cecil John Rhodes and Olive Schreiner represent conflicting views about the nature
of the relationship between power and racial notions. Rhodes a British born capitalist, with a
vision to defend and extend the British Empire and Olive Schreiner, a novelist, who envisioned a
party that has a great form of leadership without any racial prejudice and has no attributes of self
seeking enrichments through the use of power . Cecil John Rhodes and Olive Schreiner are both

This is clear in that his original vision for South Africa, was one that implied and sought for
nothing less than the defence and extension of the British Empire . This vision he had, had
included various genius in thought for the growth of South Africa as well as through the extension
of the British Empire, however through notions of policy, it had become clear that there were
introductions and representations of various factors pertaining towards racial discrimination,
corruption as well as others. These representations through policies such as The Glen Grey Act of
1894 which denied a vote to Africans from that district and, additionally, restricted the size of
African owned freeholds, restricted inheritance rights, and imposed a head tax all measures
devised to ensure labour migration , are a depiction of how Rhodes had been accustomed to ruling
through the means of oppressing the natives. This vision for South Africa, by Rhodes, can
therefore be said to have been one that focused on achieving the expansion of the British Empire,
the control of white supremacy as well as keeping control of South Africa s wealth and minerals

The New Zealand s Economy

New Zealand s Economy The country of New Zealand is an island located off the coast of
Australia. It is under the British Commonwealth, however, the monarchy does not play a role in its
government (Whitmore). New Zealand s mixed economy operations are based on free market
principles (The Treasury). Over a span of twenty five years, the country has become one of the
least regulated members of the Organization of Economic Cooperation and Development after
starting as one of the most regulated. The fertile soil and excellent growing conditions coupled
with sophisticated farming methods and advanced agricultural technology... have allowed New
Zealand to rise as a force in the agricultural industry (Ministry of Business, Innovation
Employment). Though New Zealand is small in size compared to many of its trading partners,
the country has established itself as an advanced economy nonetheless. The World Bank reports
New Zealand as a high income OECD country with its total value of goods and services that were
produced by the country within a certain period of time, or gross domestic product, at 188.4
billion current US dollars in 2013. Their population count for 2014 is 4.51 million, but using their
total for 2013 gives the country a GDP per capita of 41,555.83 US dollars. As for foreign direct
investments, net inflow measures the direct investment being made by foreign investors, whereas

Write An Essay On The Viking Massacre
Remembering Nanjing for historic justice and morality The recognition of history can neither be
Japan s strategic card nor diplomacy. Dec.13 marks the third Remembrance Ceremony for
Nanjing, known as Nanjing Ji. An estimated 300,000 Chinese massacred during a six week
period 79 years ago by the imperial Japanese army are remembered. Over the past few years, the
world is gaining a deepening recognition of the Nanjing Massacre, following the establishment of
the National Memorial Day, the historical documents of the Nanjing Massacre listed on the
UNESCO Memory of the World Register UNESCO, and exhibitions held around the world. The

But history should not be altered with the passing of time, and facts not erased by crafty denial.
Commemorating the Nanjing Massacre is not for hatred. It is consolation to the traumatized
survivors. The Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe days earlier announced he will visit Pearl
Harbor, Hawaii to mourn the victims of the Japanese surprise attack 75 years ago. Abe was
instantly suggested by Japanese media that he should pay a visit to the the Nanjing Massacre
Memorial Hall in Nanjing. The above public opinion should be more accurately understood in
the context of Japan s deal over historical issues. Japan s right wing forces have for decades kept
making attempts to deny the order established after the Second World War, such as visiting the
notorious Yasukuni Shrine and distorting history books. A few months ago, Japan revised a
school text book which distorted the history of Japanese atrocities in China and revised some
references to the 1937 Nanjing Massacre. It is hard to define Abe s visit to the Pearl Harbor as a
historical trip . Analysts say Japan is extending a friendly hand to the United States, its former foe in
war, in order to serve for its own strategic

Importance Of Bernini Master Piece
Bernini s Master Pieces
It s impossible to talk about Italian Baroque art without Bernini. Bernini, who is considered the
most important sculptor and one of the most important outstanding architect during the 17th
century, still gives to the world the opportunity to enjoy the most inspiring and wonderful seeing
of his artworks almost three hundred thirty seven years after his dead until now [1]. Many of his
artwork can be still appreciated at the gallery Borghese and other public piazzas, such as Piazza
Navona, Piazza Barberini, and others.
In Piazza Navona can be appreciated the fountain of the four rivers or La Fontana di Quattro Fiumi
. This fountain was initially made not just for showing the power and glory of the pope and his

Bernini s style is just recognizable because of his engagement and drama, texture, movement and
naturalism of his artworks, which is completely expressed in the fountain of the four rivers. This
master piece was from the beginning designed and sculpted by Bernini and Bernini s workers.
This was not the case for the fountain of the moor. This fountain, which was originally designed
by della Porta with just a central dolphin and four tritons, lacks detail. If we compared these two
fountains we can noticed that the fountain of the four rivers is carefully made in detailed. It has
movement, it expresses something. Just considering the obelisk surmounted by the dove in the
fountain of the four river makes us realized how passionate was Bernini in his pieces, which is the
same detail and expression that reveals the center master piece in the moor fountain. The difference
in technique between these two fountains as well as the design style between della Porta and
Bernini, from what he modeled to what Bernini s did in the fountain of the four rivers, is just
simple, stagnant and not

The Effects Of Soil And On The Environment
Ever since human beings left their hunter gatherer lifestyles and adopted intensive agriculture, their
practices in general have not always been kind to the soil and environment. Agricultural practices
completely disrupt the natural soil process and, therefore, altering the natural cycle of nutrients. A
healthy soilis a fundamental and necessary part of our entire ecosystem. Not only is soil crucial for
the functionality of our environment, but so many aspects of daily human life are affected by the
soil around us. The healthy soil beneath us assists the process of decomposing biological waste and
turning it into nutrients, which then serves as rich organic matter that supports all kinds of plant
and animal life in and on the ground. Soil... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These roles include breaking down biodegradable waste and then turning that waste into nutrients
for growing plants. The microscopic organisms function to help support a soil system and create
stability that reduces erosion and maintains water holding capacity. Agricultural practices are
behind the biological degradation of soils. Soil being used for agricultural production requires
replenishment of the nutrients or organic matter lost in the process. Failure to replenish the soil
with its loss of nutrients results in dysfunction of the nutrient cycle of the soil, reduction of soil
fertility, and an imbalance among the system.
In order to use land for agriculture, one must cut and clear out all natural vegetation in the area.
Following the conversion from natural vegetation to agriculture, the top soil is exposed to the
elements. Consequently, the topsoil will be washed away by rain or carried out by wind, a
process called soil erosion. By definition, soil erosion is a steady process that occurs when water
and wind break down and wash away the land, resulting in soil deterioration and ultimately the
disappearance of the soil completely. Plants such as coffee, soybean, and cotton have replaced the
natural vegetation, but these new plants cannot keep the fertile soil in place. With the major losses
of fertile soils, farmers move on and clear more natural vegetation and continue the cycle, or they

Communication Styles Between Men And Women
Today, divorce has become an extremely common and a better understanding on how to maintain a
healthy and happy marriage is critical. Unsuccessful communication plays a vital role in the failure
of many marriages and relationships. Communication is key in all relationships and can lead to the
success or failure of a marriage, depending on how the couple interacts. This effectiveness of
communication is connected to the overall satisfaction of married couples. Learning more about
the differences in communication styles between men and women will aid in the successful
sending and receiving of messages, both verbal and nonverbal. For example, a woman might
communicate in a way that has significant meaning to her. Though, the man receiving the message
may translate it differently than the way she intended. The misunderstanding is because of the
difference in communication style between the husbandand the wifeand can cause conflict and lead
to future problems in the relationship. However, if the man interpreting the message were familiar
with his wife s way of communication, he may have understood and avoided a conflict situation.
Becoming more aware of how one s own self communicates will also aid in healthier
communication between spouses. This literature review will discuss methods, limitations, and
results associated with nonverbal communication styles, conflict because of communication, and
communicated perspective taking within relationships.

Freud s Theory Of The Oedipus Complex By Sigmund Freud
INTRODUCTION
Oedipus Complex
The Oedipus complex otherwise called mother fixation is a mental inclination of a man. This
term is used by Sigmund Freud as a part of his hypothesis of Psychosexual Stages of Development
to depict a kid s emotions of yearning for his mother and jealousy and outrage towards his father.
Basically, a kid feels like he is in rivalry with his father for possession of his mother. He sees his
father as a rival for her considerations and affections.
Greek Mythology
Oedipus King is about the story of Oedipus who murders his father and weds his mother, which is
the prototype of the Oedipus complex in Psychology. The protagonist or the hero of the tragedy is

Lawrence portrays Mrs Morel s turning to her children particularly to Paul as an exceptionally
unpredictable and uncommon procedure. Lawrence alongside portraying the unpredictable and

all the factors, the most well known one is Mrs. Morel s moving her fascination or desire from

Poetic Analysis of Fern Hill Essay
Poetic Analysis Fern Hill
Dylan Thomas s poem Fern Hill represents the passage of one mans life from boyhood to
adulthood and the realization of his mortality. The speaker in this poem uses expressive language
and imagery to depict a tale of growing up. The use of colour adds life and character to people and
abstract ideas. He looks up to
Time (313) as an authority figure who has strict control of his life, and with descriptions of
biblical figures we can presume that he is a religious person who believes that God is in control of
his destiny. Each of these images contributes to a picture of one man s outlook on life and death.

Wanderer meaning delirious or roaming, and white meaning innocent, paired together give the
impression that he was confused about growing up and maturing. Now, no longer a child, the
speaker looks back at his lamb white days (314). Used in biblical terms, the white lamb was an
animal of purity used for sacrifices to God. The speaker was merely an innocent white lamb (314)
graciously following his shepherd (God) to his own sacrifice (death).
The colour golden is spoken to in terms of time. He is comparing the value of time to the value
of gold when he says Golden...Time let me play (313), and Time...Golden in the mercy of his
means (313). He realizes the value of time now that he is older and no longer youthful. We can
hear through his words that he wishes he could have cherished time as a child as he now
cherishes and values it. He last uses the word golden in the past tense. The children are spoken of
before...golden (313). As an adult he is no linger as powerful as he was as a child. Golden (313)
time has forever taken him far away from his childless land (314).
Time is only seen as golden and valuable but is also looked upon as a concrete figure. The
speaker characterizes time as a father figure that allows (314) him to play and be young. He
associates time with an adult who is supervising him

How Did Prophet Muhammad Contribute To The Rise Of Islam
The Islamic World
The rise of the Islamic World mainly began with the birth of Prophet Muhammad and greatly
continued to expand after his death. Prophet Muhammad and his followers moved along with the
idea to spread the believe of Islam and to gain many benefits of trade along the way. Prophet
Muhammad started off with only a few followers, but in the years to come many more joined
creating a massive army.
In late 6th century and early 7th century the Arabian Peninsula was divided into not only different
clans, but it was also divided into different religions. The two main religions in which Arabia found
itself divided were Christianity and Judaism. Some of Islam s teachings come from earlier Jewish
and Christian teachings. Although Islam began in the Arabian Peninsula the cultures and traditions
are said the come from more populated regions, Egypt to Iran. (Berkey 39) Arabia before Islam is

Prophet Muhammad was orphaned and raised by an uncle from his father s side, who happened

him to Syria. Prophet Muhammad received his first revelation by the age of forty. His revelation
was delivered through the angel Jibil (Gabriel.) These revelations would later be put into the book

The first dated occurance of the word Muslim in an extant Arabic inscripstion is not before 741;
previous texts had used the term believer. It has recently been suggested that the earliest incarnation
of Islam was a community of believers (mu minun) that shared a faith in fundamental axioms, such
as one god, revealed scripture, and an afterlife, but was otherwise conceptualized independent of
confessional identities. (Donner

Eating paint is most common among children who live in poverty. It is often related with those
who have very little to no parental supervision. Hunger also may result in pica. Which of an
inability to tell the difference between food and nonfood items has linked people with mental
handicap to Pica. This answer, however, is not supported by the examples of nonfood items that
were consciously eaten by people with limited mental gifts.
Pica can go unnoticed, and is usually only discovered when a health problem strikes. It can
remain undetected for months or even years. Very often pica is detected when an individual
suffers from an intestinal blockage, intestinal tear, dental injury, or a poisoning infection linked
with eating non food substances. Blood tests will usually be carried out during, to determine if a
mineral shortage could be the cause. Pica is diagnosed in individuals who have routinely eaten
non food substances for at least a month, for whom this behavior is inappropriate to their
developmental stage. Those who do not consume these substances as part of a recognized cultural
or religious practice will fit into the category. Only a qualified doctor should make a diagnosis of
Pica. Laboratory studies may be used to access these answers. The choice of imaging or laboratory
studies depends on the characteristics of the ingested materials and the resulting medical problems.

210 F.3d 88 (2d Cir.2000)*
In 1996 PepsiCo advertising campaign launched, through which consumer who collected epmty
Pepsi containers could earn Pepsi Points that could be redeemed for bikes, jacket, cups, and other
such merchandise. During this compaign, PepsiCo let the television commercial in rotation,
showcasing a number of the items being offered. This argumentative ad showed a suburban teen
preparing for school and wearing some Pepsi Stuff (sunglasses, t shirt), as the items/stuff were
depicted, numbers at the bottom of the screen revealed how many Pepsi Points they cost. At the
end of this television commercial, this suburban teen landed a Harrier Jet near a bike rack at his
school and the plane s jet ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In an agreement there must be a meeting of the minds, which indicates mutual assent by both
parties. There is no meeting of the minds when one side (PepsiCo) is obviously joking.
Another issue, which was the case in court, is that John Leonard s understanding of this
commercial as an offer must also be rejected because the New York Court found out that no
objective person (while Mr. Leonard is a subjective person) could reasonably have concluded that
the commercial actually offered consumers a Harrier Jet. In a basic rule of contracts mentioned,
that whether an offer has been made depends on the objective reasonableness of the alleged
offeree s belief that the advertisement or solicitation was intended as an offer. Reasonable Person
Standard based on common rules, and in relation to society is an objective, so according to this
standard if it is clear that an offer was not serious, then no offer has been made.
In this case objective reasonable standard notes only how resonable persons behave, and what
their reaction. While seriousness determines whether, in our case commercial, is real and serious,
and may be perceived as an offer. As it was mentioned before, PepsiCo s commercial had no offer,
and advertising are not serious. Moreover the Court found this television commercial an absurd.
Any reasonable person can t take all the actions, that take place in this television commercial, and
the plot, seriously, due to the following facts: 1) Second, the

Obama Ethos Pathos Logos
When certain people make speeches, don t you just feel inspired by their words? For these
certain people, they all put it into the delivery of their speeches to be as influential as possible.
They use many forms of rhetoric to achieve their goals and gain support. This is the case for
Obama s Speech on the death of Osama Bin Laden. The goal of Obama s speech is to unite the
American people and support the war on terrorism. Obama s creative choice of words are used
as tools to persuade people. The first thing Obama does in his speech is mention the events of 9
/11. He recalls it as a the worst attack on the American people in our history. He continues giving
his audience a idea of a horrible event full of death. He is using a form of rhetoric known as
pathos. He does this to pull on people s emotions getting their attention and reminding them of the
past. By doing this Obama unites peoples thoughts making them think the same thing and re ignite
the American people s urge for revenge on Al Qaeda. After gathering the American people s
attention, Obama states the heroic work of our military and our counterterrorism professionals.
Generally he tells the American people that they made lots of progress on the war on terrorism.
He says our because it tells the American people their efforts weren t futile. He also uses this term
to show the American people are part of the war on terrorism. Constantly using words of unity,
Obama uses a mixture of ethos and pathos. He makes

Gilman Domestic Insanity and Feminism Charlotte Perkins Gilman was an author who lived from
1860 to 1935 who represents the movement of American women towards intellectual freedom and
empowerment during the turn of the century. Gilman was a great lecturer who used her fame to
spread her ideas across the country, speaking at various organizations at cities from coast to coast.
She was also a poet, novelist, feminist, mother, and worker. She saw the flaws within the system
which restricted women to fulfilling domestic responsibilities and remaining submissive to their

She was a governess, genealogist, calisthenics enthusiast, and art teacher for most of her early
life. In 1884, she married artist Charles Walter Stetson, and a year later they had a daughter
named Katharine. Charlotte s career took a drastic turn when she was diagnosed with
depression and the well renowned Doctor Mitchell suggested rest care . This treatment took a
toll on her mental health, inspiring her to write The Yellow Wallpaper . In 1888, she moved to
Pasadena, California to write, and in that time, she wrote thirty three short articles, twenty three
poems, and ten child verses (Reuben). She and Stetson divorced, and upon his marriage to her
best friend in 1894, she forfeit Katherine to his custody. This decision tainted her reputation and
she became a nomad. In 1900, she married her cousin George Gilman, but he died in 1934. Two

Ambitious GE managers kept their ties knotted and their mouths shut. The mounting expense of
this bureaucracy was a major reason GE became a high cost producer, vulnerable to foreign
competition. The complex interaction of GE s culture, organization, and bureaucracy created a
symphony of not so subtle signals that taught GEers how to behave. But as Jones realized,
behavior that has been appropriate in 1878 or even 1978 might prove disastrous in the 1980s. In
an attempt to ensure fair treatment of its workers, GE had assigned all employees to one of twenty
nine civil service style levels of rank.
By counting Jim s ceiling squares, visitors could calculate the footage of his office, and thus his
status in the hierarchy, that told the executives whether to grovel before Jim or boss him around.

Looking for Alibrandi does show the different expectations placed on young people. These

Reasons For Political Violence Occurs
It can be challenging to adequately explain why political violence occurs, but several political
scientists have created theoretical explanations to help in the process. These explanations include
the relative deprivation theory, cultural explanations, structural or institutional explanations, and
primordialism. I personally believe that relative deprivationoffers the most leverage in explaining
why political violence occurs because it takes into account the variance of political violence and
shared characteristics across human nature. Primordialism is also known as the ancient hatred
argument and is concerned with blood relations between groups of people (Clay Fuller 2016d).
This explanation is often used to explain ethnic conflicts in which there is animosity between two
or more groups because of their biological makeup. This could potentially be used to help explain
why the conflict between the Tutsis and the Hutuoccurred in Rwandaduring the genocide in 1994.
The Hutu and the Tutsi are distinctly different ethnic populations in which the Hutu are short and
stout while the Tutsi are taller and generally have lighter skin tones (Marie Utumetsi 2004). These
genetic differences amongst the two groups created a society of separation, where in groups and
out groups based on how different populations look were created. As a result, it is easy to form
relationships between the two groups based on us versus them . There are several downfalls
evident in primordialism,

Essay on Emerson And Thoreau
amp;#8220;Dance to the beat of your own drummer: ; A piece of advice that I have been told my
whole life, and have tried my hardest to follow. The words were taken from Thoreau amp;#8217;s
quote, amp;#8220;If a man does not keep pace with his companions, perhaps it is because he hears
a different drummer. ;
Ralph Waldo Emerson and Henry David Thoreauchanged our lives. How? Well, the answer is not
so simple as the statement. To understand fully how they affected our lives, we have to understand
the philosophy of Emerson and Thoreau, and the relationship between the two. So let amp;#8217;s
begin with the relationship between Emerson and Thoreau.

Many people claim that Thoreau amp;#8217;s ideas were simply taken from Emerson
amp;#8217;s, in fact, some critics call Thoreau Emerson amp;#8217;s miror. And although their
philosophies greatly reflected one another, they differed in many ways as well.
Emerson amp;#8217;s writing focused on nonconformity and individuality. In his essay quot;Self
Reliance, quot; he wrote, quot;Nothing is at last sacred but the integrity of your own mind, quot;
and, quot;Whoso would be a man, must be a nonconformist. quot;
Emerson writings were also more focused on the self; philosophy of humanism and Independence
from society are all things that Emerson wrote on frequently. Thoreau, while focusing on matters of
the self in many of his essays, tended to have more of a political overtone to his writing.
In amp;#8220;Civil Disobedience ;, Thoreau amp;#8217;s most famous social protest, He
explains that it is our civil right to disagree with laws. He believed that people must be free to act
according to their own idea of right and wrong, without government interference. In quot;Civil
Disobedience quot;, he said that people should refuse to obey any law they believe is unjust.
Thoreau practiced this type of passive resistance when, in 1846, he refused to pay poll taxes. He
did so to express his opposition to the Mexican War. Thoreau spent one night in jail for his refusal.

Analysis Of The Dead By Charlie Higson
This summer, I read the book The Dead by Charlie Higson is a novel about a large group of kids,
left to live by themselves without guidance from their parents. In this run down setting of
London, England, people who are over the age of 16 turn into kid hunting, flesh eating zombies.
The younger kids are forced to live on their own, fighting for life against the wrath of the Adults.
The message Higson showed in his book is: after people are forced to rely on themselves without
experience, their lack of experience and knowledge will lead them to failure.
In the novel, the kids face constant fear and by telling the story from a 3rd person omniscient
point of view, Higson can really show how they are forced to only appeal their need for survival.
The adults are a mysterious entity to the kids. Since they are doing things only to live, their
actions are limited. We think there s something in us that adults need to eat in order to stay alive,
(375). They move in groups to keep support between the kids, and by doing this, their fear of
adults is slightly eased.
Connecting the fact that the kids are living in fear to that London is big, the kids are constantly
moving. The possibilities of adults attacking the kids at any point are endless. And when it had
gotten really bad, when those adults who d gotten sick but hadn t died had started to turn on the
kids, attacking them like wild animals, (8). These kids start to constantly move because of their
fear. This causes

Current Literature Regarding the History of Bullying Research
Adult bullying at work is shockingly common and very destructive. In an in depth analysis of
146 organizations worldwide, workplaces evidencing bullying on a relatively routine basis made
up 44% of the total analyzed. U.S. studies also suggest alarming prevalence rates. During any
given 6 to 12 month period, up to 13 percent of workers are bullied on the job; this increases
significantly when counting those bullied anytime during their careers .These numbers translate to
millions of workers: According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics 136 million Americans were

A decade later, the topic surfaced in England In 1991, a freelance journalist named Andrea Adams,
brought the issue to public attention in Britain through a series of BBC radio posts; she labeled the
phenomenon bullying. As a result of Adams work and public concern, interest in and the study of
bullying intensified in the U.K. Although Scandinavia and the U.K. continue to lead in this area,
bullying and mobbing research now includes, among others, scholars and professionals in Japan,
Australia, and Canada.
In the United States the history of adult bullying research has been less straightforward. U.S.
psychiatrist Carroll Brodsky conducted one of the first studies of workplace harassment and

book stirred little interest at the time. Brodsky s research was revived in the early 1990s when

occurrences of workplace murder sparked a massive amount of research that extended into the next

National Girl Child Day The Voice of Tomorrow
Forty Six years ago, on January 24, India got her First Lady Prime Minister Mrs. Indira Gandhi.
The nation of male dominance stood standstill in the awe of the power of this one lady whose

of social development, it is away behind. It is an irony in this country that where mother is
worshipped as Mother Divine, there is domestic violence. In a country where Kumari Puja is done,
there is female foeticide.
It is in this need to raise public awareness, the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government
declared to observe January 24 as the National Girl Child Day in 2009. This day will be celebrated
every year till there is a gender balance in the country and till the time we match the required sex

Similarities And Differences Between The Southern And...
In the late 1700 s, dozens of historians learned about events and forces that drove many colonial
people to an armed rebellion. Among the patriots and economic determinists, fundamental
agreement prevails, and the immediate cause is The American Revolution. Although the people of
the colonies all lived in the same country, there were many similarities and differences between the
southern and northern colonies, such as religion, economics, politics and governments.
During the Revolution, there were thirteen different colonies, and when talked about they were
divided into three different geographical locations, northern, middle and southern. The Northern
region, also known as, the New England colonies, consisted of Rhode Island, Connecticut,
Massachusetts, and New Hampshire. The Southern colonies consisted of Maryland, Virginia, the
Carolinas, and Georgia. In the old colonial system a colony was to be a colony in the most obvious
sense of the word: a perpetually subordinate agricultural and extractive area that served the mother
country as a source of raw materials, a safety valve for excess or unwanted population, and a market
for finished goods. During the seventeenth and eighteenth century, mercantilism played a major role
throughout the colonies. Mercantilism is a economic theory that enabled the government to
regulate the economy for the purpose of building up the rival nations economic power. The

This can affect their physical and mental health due to poor hygiene and diet. Some children

calculate the total solids of the samples:
2 INTRODUCTION AND OBJECTIVE
Total solids or concentration of a particular food is referred as the amount of solid concentrated
component present after removal of water (S. Suzanne Nielsen, 2010). This analytical value is of
great economic importance to a food manufacturer for the following reasons: economics
consideration (water is an inexpensive filler); solidcontent is often specified in compositional
standards and can be used as standard identification; computations of nutritional values of foods
require the determination of total solids (S. Suzanne Nielsen, 2010).
When different solutes are dissolved in a solution, the density change can be used to determine the
concentration of the solute. Since the direct measurement is difficult, the measurements use
specific gravity to determine the density of the liquid.
Specific gravity = (weight of x ml solution)/(weight of x ml of water)
Specific gravity is a relative value usually determined by the

Futurgical Transformation Of The Lioness Nala In The Lion...
In a move that many observers say underscores her commitment to the part, BeyoncГ©
reportedly began a painful surgical transformation Thursday in preparation for her role as the
lioness Nala in the live action remake of The Lion King. The remake will include a variety of
famous people, Seth Rogen, James Earl Jones, John Oliver and other people viewers will likely
recognize. It will take many intensive and frankly excruciating procedures before she gets to
where she needs to be, but once the radical alterations to her bones, musculature, and skin are
completed, you won t even be able to tell that the big cat you re looking at on screen is actually

How Did Vince Van Gogh Influence Art
This morning I saw the countryside from my window a long time before sunrise, with nothing but
the morning star, which looked very big, (Van Gogh). This quote had a dedication to his brother
Theo, right before his creation of The Starry Night . Also, from one of the most famous paint from
the 19th century. Not only that, he was also a highly influencer for the 20th century art. In present
day or in the 21st century he is a big influencer and inspiration of art. This artist is Vince Van Gogh,
who has created the most post impressionist paints. Which mean Van Gogh had a style, and was
part of painting movement, that originated in France in the 1860 s. Vince Van Gogh is known as
the Greatest Dutch Painter. Vincent Van Gogh

Gachet has a price of 82.5 million dollars. Is was sold at that price, and I wonder who bought
too. This portrait is very interesting to look at. It has a man of course, with a light brown hat,
red hair, and a brown mustache. The background is dark, but vivid, and it contrast the color of
his black coat. The doctor in this portrait is just think, laying his hand, and elbow on a table with
a red cloth, yellow books, and some flowers in a vase. The painting expresses sadness, and
maybe depression. Vase with Poppies, Cornflowers, Peonies and Chrysanthemums, 1886
Vincent van Gogh Vase with Poppies, must be one of my favorite paint from Vincent van Gogh.
This painting has it all what a girl loves to see, and have. The colors are bright red, in has pink,
browns, and white flowers. I love this painting because the background is drack and dull, but the
vas and the flowers stand out. Even though the flowers are not beautiful, nor blooming. The
structure Van Gogh created, and the colors used, he just combined everything so well. Vincent
van Gogh was not a painter or artist from an early age, and had no practice either. He was self
taught, and had no art training. His brother Theo did help him and supported him with his art
work. Before Vincent dedicated his life to art, he wanted to become a minister. He decided to
dedicate his life to god, after he fell in love with the daughter of landlady. Vincent proposed
marriage to her, and she rejected him. Making

Positive Effects Of Raising Minimum Wage
What comes into mind when the thought of minimum wage occur? What do you think about the
relationship between the raise of minimum wage and poverty? Does raising the minimum wage
going to reduce poverty among low income family? These questions arise since 2014, if whether the
us government should raise the minimum wage. Nowadays, the american wages has brought a lot
of debate. Most authors have different perspective and approach about the idea of raising minimum
wage. Therefore, the authors of article such as Millennial Thoughts: Minimum wage and my take
by Will Perkins, Reducing Poverty via Minimum Wages, Alternatives by David Neumark and What
will a higher minimum wage do? Two new studies have different ideas by Natalie Kitroeff. All of
the authors talks about the effects of raising the minimum wage, the negative and the positive.
While most authors agree that minimum wage should be raised, however, they differ when it come
to the negatives effects that it will have to the economy.
The raise of the minimum wage will have positive effects and improve the lifestyle of minimum
wage workers. Perkins state If you work full time in America, you should be able to live here

Handwriting Writing Characteristics
Handwriting is a skill many people acquire at a young age. Handwriting is something that is
individual to a specific person based on individual characteristics. Special examiners who are trained
to examine documents and handwritings can compare samples and identify class characteristics,
individual characteristics, and use vision and technology to make a positive connection or
disconnection between a subject sample and the comparisonsample. The act of handwriting is
accomplished through practice and repetition. Most people learn to write by copying letter
formations from a copybook at a young age (Harrison, D., Burkes, T., Seiger, D). Class
characteristics would include everyone who learned how to write their letters with the traditional
lined paper and were taught letter formation and spacing. Someone who lives in America may have
learned how to write differently from someone who lives in a foreign country but it still holds the
basic concept of forming letters or symbols to make words. Once handwriting itself is mastered,
people tend to adopt individual characteristics that set their writingapart from others. The writing
becomes a pattern of subconscious, habitual formations that are repeated from one writing to the
next (Hilton 1982; Huber 1999). These writings separate a type or style from being just standard
copybook format to forming different strokes, patterns, skill level, and or identifying techniques of
writing. According to the FBI, no two writers share

A Documentary By Admiral Vern Essay
Introduction
In a documentary by Admiral Vern (2002), the events of September 11, 2001 tragically illustrated
that the promise of peace and security in the 21st Century is fraught with profound dangers . The
US foreign policies and interest in key geographic regions of the world sparks controversies
resulting in state funded cyber attacks, cyber espionage and terrorism against the United States and
its allied nations. When several attempts to cripple the United States and its allied nations through
negotiations failed, enemy states and nefarious groups have shifted their focus to cyber attacks and
cyber espionage. According to Gady (2016), China continues cyber espionage against the United
States . Drezner (2014), Washingtonand Beijing hardly agree on everything, but they agree on the
big things, like maintaining an open global economy, reducing the likelihood of a military
confrontation, and tackling climate change .
Following the US and Israeli Stuxnet attack on Iran s Nuclear program in 2010, enemy states have
been targeting some critical infrastructures and federal government agencies. As the US interest in
securing its borders against all threats both domestic and abroad continue to grow, several new
threats and vulnerabilities colossus in its cyberspace. In a recent report by Bhattacharyya (2016),
Russian hackers attacked the State Department email system and the Office of Personnel
Management reported that 5.6 million Americans fingerprints were stolen as

Binge Drinking On College Campuses
Over the past few years, there has been this big debate about whether the drinking age should be
lowered to 18 or if it should stay at 21. Those in favor of lowering the drinking age to 18 argue
that someone who is old enough to serve their country should be allowed to have a drink. Those
who are in favor of keeping the minimum legal drinking age at 21 because of consequences
regarding psychological development and health problems later in life. However, there is a bigger
problem concerning alcohol. The problem is the excessive amount of drinking or commonly known
as binge drinking, done by primarily college students and by raising taxes on any and all alcoholic
beverages can lead to significant reduction of dangerous binge drinking and simultaneously
reducing the dangerous effects of binge drinking. Drinking has become a tradition amongst college
students, and drinking is portrayed as a vital part of the college experience. Most incoming college
freshman come into college with a preexisting tendency to drink, and the college campus life can be
a significant influence on alcohol consumption and the rate at which alcohol is consumed. Binge
drinking is so common that it is expected of a college student to drink once getting into the
university. The reasons in which students decide to binge drink can vary from students

The Ideas Of Women In Literature, By Siegfried Sassoon
Women in Literature Throughout generations women have been always been treated as second
class citizens in society. This concept is portrayed in many different novels from past
generations, it is shown how women had to live by societies will or else they would be out
casted and left in isolation. They were discredited, such as their help during the first Great War
and described unfavorably by men in literature and even some women in society. To society
women were to be homemakers, while the men were to do all the hard labor and provide food
for the family. Literature was a place where the divide was shown clearly. Many male writers
describe the female gender as weak willed and oblivious to the world around them. Men would
write women as fanciful and that they were made to please men. This is not the case when it came
to women writers, women would describe women as strong and in a positive favor. Women always
believed that with the right education they would be at an equal level to their male counter parts.
When it comes to a man writing about women they tend to be harsh and judgmental towards
women, describing them as foolish and ignorant to the world around them. During the twentieth
century ideas of women s rights were appearing but that did not stop the discrimination of women.
An example of this unjust idea, is a poem written by a twentieth century poet, named Siegfried
Sassoon. The poem is called Glory of Women and it is about the Great War and how women

Essay On Recreational Marijuana
Government Ruling on Recreational Marijuana
Marijuana has been used long before it showed up in the United states. It was widly popular and
used among some of the world s earliest civilizations. Historic Documents show that the cannabis
plants were used to produce rope and fabric around 7000 B.C in South and Central Asia. It was
also found being referenced in Chinese manuscripts dating all the way back to 2700 B.C. In the
1500 s marijuana, known as Cannabis Sativa was used to make industrial goods. The recreational
use in America became popular in the early 20th century. Misunderstandings started to arise shortly
after. The idea that Marijuana was as bad cocaine or heroin was along the lines of the
misunderstandings that the plant had, but there have never been any records of human deaths due
to intake of Cannabis Sativa or Cannabis Indica. There is in fact a difference between Marijuana
and Hemp , but the distinctions has always been confusing. They are both species of the same genus
botanically speaking. What separates the two is the amount of anti psychoactive and Psychoactive

In the 17th century government tried to encourage at home growing of hemp for the production
of ropes, clothing, and sails for boats. The Virginia Assembly passed legislation making the
growing of hemp a requirement for every farmer. It was even allowed to be used as currency.
Many people used it as a trading good instead of money in Pennsylvania, Virginia and in Maryland.
The massive production of hemp was a big deal up until the end of the Civil War. After this imports
replaced hemp for many purposes. The late 19th Century welcomed marijuana as a medical
ingredient in products that were sold over the counter. Towards the ending of the 19th century
Hashish became a fad in france and someone in the US. That s when the plant started to become

A Small, Quaint Beach
A small, quaint beach is located in Texas, and is known by the name of Galveston. It has a very
vivid and interesting backstory, more so than cities twenty times its size. Galveston Beach was
originally home to Akokisa and Karankawa Native Americans during 1528. Robert Cavelier La
Salle, a French explorer, claimed the land for King Louis, naming it St. Louis in the late 1600s.
Later, in 1786, Galveston was named for Bernardo de Galvez; he was a Spanish general and
governor of colonies, and he sent explorers to chart the land (from the Gulf of Mexico of the
Texan coast to New Orleans but Galvez died before he ever set foot on his island. However, the
first settler was European, a pirate known by the name Jean Lafitte, who created the... Show more

Long shore currents continuously transport sand south along the coast. Harsh winter weather pulls
sand from dunes and upper beaches, depositing it onto offshore sand bars and reducing beach
width, while gentler wave action during milder summer weather acts to restore the shoreline
(NOAA, 2013.) The structure of barrier islands is determined by the movement of sand in the
littoral zone, which is the land facing side of the island. In August of the year 1933, a hurricane
created an inlet south of Ocean City, Maryland. The inlet separated the island from Maryland
(U.S. National Parks Service, 2012.) After the hurricane, a permanent system of artificial jetties
was built for navigation purposes, and has drifted westward considerably from the original
landmass; without the jettisons, it would have silted back because of longshore drift which is a
geographical process that consists of the transportation of sediments, such as clay, silt, sand, and
shingle along a coast at an angle to the shoreline, which depends on prevailing wind direction,
amongst other factors, This process occurs in the littoral zone, and is on in or close to the surf
zone. The artificial jettisons has created wider beaches and better fishing access, but also has
caused erosion problems on Assateague Island. As an added note, Assateague island is well known
for their white sand

Those people did not exaggerated. One of them was Francis Crick, another James Watson. Watson and Crick discovered structure of deoxyribonucleic acid a substance that contains all hereditary information. A few months after the historic statement in the pub came a careful publication of the work of two researchers in the journal Nature (Watson and Crick 738 740). It is in this way two strands of DNA are connected together, that is opposite to thymine, one thread will always contain adenine from the other, and nothing else. The two strands of the Watson Crick model are complementary to each other, so that wherever an adenine appears on one strand, a thymine occurs directly opposite from it in the other strand (Garland 219). Watson and Crick got the Nobel Prize in1958. The discovery of the spatial structure of DNA revolutionized the world of science and led to many new discoveries without which it is impossible to imagine not only modern science, but also modern life as a whole. In 60th another important discovery was made the genetic code. DNA contains information about everything that is inherited, including the linear structure of each protein in the body. Proteins, like DNA, represent long molecular chains of amino acids. There are 20 amino acids. Accordingly, it was unclear how the language of DNA, consisting of a four letter alphabet, is translated into the language of proteins, where 20 letters . Not only is soil crucial for the functionality of our environment, but so many aspects of daily human life are affected by the soil around us. The microscopic organisms function to help support a soil system and create stability that reduces erosion and maintains water holding capacity. Agricultural practices are behind the biological degradation of soils. Soil being used for agricultural production requires replenishment of the nutrients or organic matter lost in the process. Failure to replenish the soil with its loss of nutrients results in dysfunction of the nutrient cycle of the soil, reduction of soil fertility, and an imbalance among the system. In order to use land for agriculture, one must cut and clear out all natural vegetation in the area. Following the conversion from natural vegetation to agriculture, the top soil is exposed to the elements. Consequently, the topsoil will be washed away by rain or carried out by wind, a process called soil erosion. By definition, soil erosion is a steady process that occurs when water and wind break down and wash away the land, resulting in soil deterioration and ultimately the disappearance of the soil completely. Plants such as coffee, soybean, and cotton have replaced the natural vegetation, but these new plants cannot keep the fertile soil in place. But as Jones realized, behavior that has been appropriate in 1878 or even 1978 might prove disastrous in the 1980s. • 27. Reasons For Political Violence Occurs It can be challenging to adequately explain why political violence occurs, but several political scientists have created theoretical explanations to help in the process. These explanations include the relative deprivation theory, cultural explanations, structural or institutional explanations, and primordialism. I personally believe that relative deprivationoffers the most leverage in explaining why political violence occurs because it takes into account the variance of political violence and shared characteristics across human nature. Primordialism is also known as the ancient hatred argument and is concerned with blood relations between groups of people (Clay Fuller 2016d). This explanation is often used to explain ethnic conflicts in which there is animosity between two or more groups because of their biological makeup. This could potentially be used to help explain why the conflict between the Tutsis and the Hutuoccurred in Rwandaduring the genocide in 1994. The Hutu and the Tutsi are distinctly different ethnic populations in which the Hutu are short and stout while the Tutsi are taller and generally have lighter skin tones (Marie Utumetsi 2004). These genetic differences amongst the two groups created a society of separation, where in groups and out groups based on how different populations look were created. As a result, it is easy to form relationships between the two groups based on us versus them . There are several downfalls evident in primordialism, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 30. Analysis Of The Dead By Charlie Higson This summer, I read the book The Dead by Charlie Higson is a novel about a large group of kids, left to live by themselves without guidance from their parents. In this run down setting of London, England, people who are over the age of 16 turn into kid hunting, flesh eating zombies. The younger kids are forced to live on their own, fighting for life against the wrath of the Adults. The message Higson showed in his book is: after people are forced to rely on themselves without experience, their lack of experience and knowledge will lead them to failure. In the novel, the kids face constant fear and by telling the story from a 3rd person omniscient point of view, Higson can really show how they are forced to only appeal their need for survival. The adults are a mysterious entity to the kids. Since they are doing things only to live, their actions are limited. We think there s something in us that adults need to eat in order to stay alive, (375). They move in groups to keep support between the kids, and by doing this, their fear of adults is slightly eased. Connecting the fact that the kids are living in fear to that London is big, the kids are constantly moving. The possibilities of adults attacking the kids at any point are endless. And when it had gotten really bad, when those adults who d gotten sick but hadn t died had started to turn on the kids, attacking them like wild animals, (8). Although the people of the colonies all lived in the same country, there were many similarities and differences between the southern and northern colonies, such as religion, economics, politics and governments. The Northern region, also known as, the New England colonies, consisted of Rhode Island, Connecticut, Massachusetts, and New Hampshire. The Southern colonies consisted of Maryland, Virginia, the Carolinas, and Georgia. In the old colonial system a colony was to be a colony in the most obvious sense of the word: a perpetually subordinate agricultural and extractive area that served the mother country as a source of raw materials, a safety valve for excess or unwanted population, and a market for finished goods. Physics Of A Food Manufacturer For The Following Reasons... 1 ABSTRACT In this lab exercise, different approaches, Hydrometer, Pycnometer and refractometer, were used to determine the total solids or concentration of two unknown samples. Standard curve of density vs concentration and standard curve of specific gravity vs concentration were drawn with a series of known concentrations of 10%, 20%, 30% sugar solution by weight. With the standard curve and the specific gravity and refractive index of samples we obtained from the determination, we can calculate the total solids of the samples: 2 INTRODUCTION AND OBJECTIVE Total solids or concentration of a particular food is referred as the amount of solid concentrated component present after removal of water (S. Suzanne Nielsen, 2010). This analytical value is of great economic importance to a food manufacturer for the following reasons: economics consideration (water is an inexpensive filler); solidcontent is often specified in compositional standards and can be used as standard identification; computations of nutritional values of foods require the determination of total solids (S. Suzanne Nielsen, 2010). When different solutes are dissolved in a solution, the density change can be used to determine the concentration of the solute. Since the direct measurement is difficult, the measurements use specific gravity to determine the density of the liquid. • 42. Handwriting Writing Characteristics Handwriting is a skill many people acquire at a young age. Handwriting is something that is individual to a specific person based on individual characteristics. Special examiners who are trained to examine documents and handwritings can compare samples and identify class characteristics, individual characteristics, and use vision and technology to make a positive connection or disconnection between a subject sample and the comparisonsample. The act of handwriting is accomplished through practice and repetition. Most people learn to write by copying letter formations from a copybook at a young age (Harrison, D., Burkes, T., Seiger, D). Class characteristics would include everyone who learned how to write their letters with the traditional lined paper and were taught letter formation and spacing. Someone who lives in America may have learned how to write differently from someone who lives in a foreign country but it still holds the basic concept of forming letters or symbols to make words. Once handwriting itself is mastered, people tend to adopt individual characteristics that set their writingapart from others. The writing becomes a pattern of subconscious, habitual formations that are repeated from one writing to the next (Hilton 1982; Huber 1999). These writings separate a type or style from being just standard copybook format to forming different strokes, patterns, skill level, and or identifying techniques of writing. • 45. The Ideas Of Women In Literature, By Siegfried Sassoon Women in Literature Throughout generations women have been always been treated as second class citizens in society. This concept is portrayed in many different novels from past generations, it is shown how women had to live by societies will or else they would be out casted and left in isolation. They were discredited, such as their help during the first Great War and described unfavorably by men in literature and even some women in society. To society women were to be homemakers, while the men were to do all the hard labor and provide food for the family. Literature was a place where the divide was shown clearly. Many male writers describe the female gender as weak willed and oblivious to the world around them. Men would write women as fanciful and that they were made to please men. This is not the case when it came to women writers, women would describe women as strong and in a positive favor. Women always believed that with the right education they would be at an equal level to their male counter parts. When it comes to a man writing about women they tend to be harsh and judgmental towards women, describing them as foolish and ignorant to the world around them. During the twentieth century ideas of women s rights were appearing but that did not stop the discrimination of women. An example of this unjust idea, is a poem written by a twentieth century poet, named Siegfried Sassoon. The poem is called Glory of Women and it is about the Great War and how women supposedly ... • 46. Essay On Recreational Marijuana Government Ruling on Recreational Marijuana Marijuana has been used long before it showed up in the United states. It was widly popular and used among some of the world s earliest civilizations. Historic Documents show that the cannabis plants were used to produce rope and fabric around 7000 B.C in South and Central Asia. It was also found being referenced in Chinese manuscripts dating all the way back to 2700 B.C. In the 1500 s marijuana, known as Cannabis Sativa was used to make industrial goods. The recreational use in America became popular in the early 20th century. Misunderstandings started to arise shortly after. The idea that Marijuana was as bad cocaine or heroin was along the lines of the misunderstandings that the plant had, but there have never been any records of human deaths due to intake of Cannabis Sativa or Cannabis Indica. There is in fact a difference between Marijuana and Hemp , but the distinctions has always been confusing. They are both species of the same genus botanically speaking. • 47. A Small, Quaint Beach A small, quaint beach is located in Texas, and is known by the name of Galveston. It has a very vivid and interesting backstory, more so than cities twenty times its size. Galveston Beach was originally home to Akokisa and Karankawa Native Americans during 1528. Robert Cavelier La Salle, a French explorer, claimed the land for King Louis, naming it St. Louis in the late 1600s. Later, in 1786, Galveston was named for Bernardo de Galvez; he was a Spanish general and governor of colonies, and he sent explorers to chart the land (from the Gulf of Mexico of the Texan coast to New Orleans but Galvez died before he ever set foot on his island. Long shore currents continuously transport sand south along the coast. Harsh winter weather pulls sand from dunes and upper beaches, depositing it onto offshore sand bars and reducing beach width, while gentler wave action during milder summer weather acts to restore the shoreline (NOAA, 2013.) The structure of barrier islands is determined by the movement of sand in the littoral zone, which is the land facing side of the island. In August of the year 1933, a hurricane created an inlet south of Ocean City, Maryland. The inlet separated the island from Maryland (U.S. National Parks Service, 2012.) After the hurricane, a permanent system of artificial jetties was built for navigation purposes, and has drifted westward considerably from the original landmass; without the jettisons, it would have silted back because of longshore drift which is a geographical process that consists of the transportation of sediments, such as clay, silt, sand, and shingle along a coast at an angle to the shoreline, which depends on prevailing wind direction, amongst other factors, This process occurs in the littoral zone, and is on in or close to the surf zone. The artificial jettisons has created wider beaches and better fishing access, but also has caused erosion problems on Assateague Island. As an added note, Assateague island is well known for their white sand ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
