Pavel Alekseyevich Cherenkov and the Cherenkov Effect
The 1958 Nobel Prize in Physics was awarded to Pavel Alekseyevich Cherenkov, Ilya Frank and Igor
Tamm for the discovery and the interpretation of the Cherenkov Effect. Cherenkov radiation is the
electromagnetic radiation emitted by particles moving through a medium faster than the speed of light
in the same medium. It was fist a detected by Soviet scientist Pavel Alekseyevich Cherenkov, of who
the effect is named after and a theory was later developed by Ilya Frank and Igor Tamm. Cherenkov s
contributions still live on as an invaluable tool in today s nuclear and subatomic particle physics with
examples that include a way to detect and quantify the characteristics of subatomic particles to
analyzing high energy cosmic signals from the deepest regions of space. More down to earth uses
consist of safety procedures for nuclear reactors and the detection of low concentration biomolecules
in the sick and elderly.
Despite the underprivileged life as the child of Russian peasants, Pavel Cherenkov was able to
graduate from the Physics and Mathematics Faculty of Voronezh State University in 1928 and went
onto a post graduate course at the Academy of Science in St. Petersburg. His work in physics soon
promoted him to a senior scientific officer at the P.N. Lebedev Institute, more commonly known as the
physics branch of the Academy of Science in Moscow. It was here at the Academy in 1932, that an
interest in the color of light given off from gamma rays passing through a fluid would led

Making Sex, AAnd Of The One Sex Model Essay
Unit Two Sex is a complicated topic for a variety of reasons; one of which is how he differences
between men and women are described and explained. In Laqueur s book, Making Sex, a discretion of
the one sex model is given along with several contributing factors to the shift to a two sex model. In
this paper I would like to touch on some of the influences given in the book and out as evidence for
my own interpretation of how our current model developed. With the coming of the modern age came
a rapid influx of ideas; it was a time for revolutions to be made. I d like to start a bit before this time
though to see how the shift began. In the premodern era conquering other peoples was very common.
In a sense it was conquer, or be conquered. We rationalized that some people had progressed faster
than others, and therefore that is why they were able to overtake other communities or nations. These
people were civilized and the others savage . This difference in progress was a driving force in
developing technologies and ideas to stay above the people it ruled over. To do this, a strong military
and economy was needed. The developed nations needed the strongest population to defend, invade,
produce, and profit. In addition to this, the ruling class felt that it was not fair to leave their colonies so
underdeveloped; so in order to prevent the progression gap from widening it sought to help the poor
savages. This was achieved by several efforts to better the health of societies

Compare And Contrast Ulley And Udney Maria Blakeley
Art is the most intense mode of individualism that the world has known. Oscar Wilde. Women are
wild, sensitive, magnificent, mysterious, and above all: individual. Art s many different medias
allowed artist throughout the ages to capture women at both their strongest and most vulnerable
points. It has the power to capture a woman: as a naïve, young girl clutching her brother as they are
painted into a lasting portrait, a golden statue of an angel sent down to Earth to help a saved man take
his first steps into an eternal life with God, to the powerful goddess, Artemis, transforming a hunter
into a deer and having his hunting dogs tragically attack him. The six pieces of art chosen express the
individuality of each women who has walked, walks, and will walk the earth. The painting Udney
Maria Blakeley (1830), by Thomas Sully, was the first painting that came to mind when assigned the
project: the painting has fascinated me both as a child and an adult due to the beauty of both the
woman in the painting, but also from my deeper understanding of art now. Thomas Sully used the wet
medium of oil on canvas, and included the woman in the foreground of the painting holding a rose in a
vase in her right hand. There is a deep contrast between the women dressed in a white gown, and the
darker background of the painting. Due to the highlighting along the left side of her face, and the
shadowing on the right, it can be assumed that she is facing, or even looking straight at the

Parasites In The Stories Of Franz Kafka
Franz Kafka was born to a middle class Jewish family that was plagued with tragedy because of the
Nazi s reign of terror during World War II. Living during this extremely parasitic period in history, the
theme would become the basis throughout the stories of Kafka. A parasite is defined by The Merriam
Webster Dictionary as something that resembles a biological parasite in dependence on something else
for existence or support without making a useful or adequate return. When reading the definition of
parasite, one who has read any one of Kafka s stories could most likely attribute parasitism as a central
theme in the stories.
Kafka had a very difficult relationship with his parents, more so his father than his mother. His father
had an authoritative personality that often controlled the Kafka home. His father had an impact on the
characters traits in his [Kafka s] writing. That being said, his characters usually had overbearing
power. These individuals, or sometimes parasites, could break the will of men and destroy their sense
of self worth. His mother was a stay at home mother who did not have the intellectual experience to
understand her son s dreams of becoming a writer. She was a parasite to Kafka himself. His family
was the major theme generator in his writings. He used his family and events in his early life to
establish a rather unknown theme of parasites in his writings. Franz Kafka had, metaphorically
speaking, parasites ruling his life. His father was a parasite

Essay Comparing Oedipus And Othello
Sandy Rowan Sandy Christina Cannon English 1102 4 March 2018 Other People s Cups Both
Sophocles s Oedipus the King and William Shakespeare s Othello, the Moor of Venice are well known
for their tragic endings. At the end of each play, both of the main characters have suffered great loss to
the point of no recovery. These endings are, unfortunately, a semi accurate depiction of very possible
outcomes to anybody: bad things happen to good people. Although the endings of these two main
characters are irredeemably unhappy, the lives of the rest of those in each play has their own chances.
There is a theme of deterioration within Sophocles s Oedipus the King. Oedipus (the main character,
king of Thebes) starts his downward spiral of deterioration when he starts to link himself to a
prophecy that claimed he would kill his father and sleep with his mother when Jocasta describes how
her former husband died and what he looked like starting in line 805. Because he cannot let the subject
go, Oedipus discovers that his true parents were King Laius and Queen Jocasta in line 1210, Look old
man...that child! Starting with his true understanding of what he has done in line 1250, Oedipus starts
to lose his mind completely until his ultimate sign of deterioration in line 1345 when he gauges out his
eyes after he s discovered Jocasta killed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He is shown as a good man in line 65 when he is displaying empathy for the people he rules over.
Although he is also a flawed man, in that he killed a group of people (one of which turning out to be

unwittingly committed: Come it s...evil doom (lines 1470 1478). This is important to my theme of:

The Controversy Of Open Campus
Recently at our high school there has been controversy over the topic of open campus. Is this a good
idea? Letting growing adults off on their own well being is a horrible idea. These students should be
watched at all times and monitored. The food provided by our school is government approved and
good for nutrition. But, of course if we have students off on their own they won t come back to school.
School is meant to be a safe and educational place for all students. Food and drinks located at school
are healthy and state approved. If these students don t eat our food they ll eat greasy and fatty food
sure to give them health issues. These young teens idea of food is a burger with friends and a large

Essay on The Factors Involved in Scientific Revolutions
In the mid sixteenth century, the world took on a revolution of a new kind. Following centuries of
religious and political unrest, countless wars, and the infamous Black Death, which ravaged through
nearly one third of the European population, Nicolaus Copernicus set off the Scientific Revolution in
1543 with his publication of De revolutionibus orbium coelestium. However, this revolution would
not be restricted to only the sciences, but it would forever change the global landscape in every aspect
of life. Although, named the Scientific Revolution, this metamorphosis of thought was not restricted to
chemistry but touched on nearly every intellectually based subject. This widespread change was the
product of a series of unique influences. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
France demanded very high taxes from its people, including the Huguenots, and an anonymous
drawing dating from 1671 exemplifies the magnificent architecture and display of wealth that the
taille produced. The drawing depicts Louis XIV visiting the French Royal Academy, where he is
surrounded by scientific tools and gadgets that signify the remarkable and growing intelligence of
France. This is revealed as the growing field of science, and the discovery of the atom also allowed
many to believe that humans possessed an Infinite Wisdom and Power (Doc. 8) that further supported
belief in the Divine Right of Kings, that the French throne had been specifically chosen by god.
Another instrumental force was religion, which was led by clerical officials, and also played a
significant role as it provided scientists of the revolution with an inspiration, that they were efficiently
employing all the intellectual ability that God had blessed them with. The aforementioned Polish
Priest and astronomer, Nicolaus Copernicus, is an epitome of an religiously inspired individual. In his
1543 book, On the revolution of the Heavenly Spheres, in a dedication to Pope Paul III he states, the

The Sonnet By Sir Thomas Wyatt
Many people are familiar with poetry; they understand their basic concepts and know that some differ
in their size and how they rhyme. What some people may not know is that poems are categorized and
there are many different types of groups within poetry. There are various types of poetry which
include the sonnet. The sonnet was introduced by an Italian poet named Francesco Petrarch (1304
1374) who introduced the creation in the 13th century (Applebee 295). He wrote over 300 love
sonnets, a great number of them were dedicated to a woman named Laura. Centuries passed in which
sonnets were not as popular; his work was later rediscovered by two lovelorn poets. Their names were
Sir Thomas Wyatt (1503 1542) and Henry Howard, earl of Surrey (1517 1547). They changed some of
the rhyme scheme to tie in with the English language; Shakespeare went on to write many sonnets, he
was very good and left a huge impact on the style of poetry.
Later, an already famous poet, Edmund Spenser, kept the love based poems alive by continuing to
write in the 15th century; he went on to change how they poem rhymed and had his style of writing
named after him. Enough with its history, a sonnet is a structured poem that consists of 14 lines. There
is no limitation on how long each line has to be in size; but they do all have one thing in common,
there must be ten syllables per line. The poem is then divided into three quatrains; which is just a big
word for a four lined unit. The final two lines are

Stereotypes Of African American Filmmakers And Directors
Stereotypes of African Americans in Tyler Perry Films
Nautica C. Hereford
Wright State University Abstract
This paper highlights the negative stereotypes of African Americans that are reinforced in Tyler Perry
s films. The misrepresentation of African Americans in the media has become normalized, meaning
African Americans in stereotypical roles have become accepted (Tosi, 2011). The misrepresentation of
African Americans in Perry s films can be traced back to his cruel upbringing. This paper discusses
the issues of having common stereotypes portrayed in Perry s film. In addition, this paper utilizes Eric
Festinger s social comparison theory to explain the potential consequences of negatively stereotyping
African Americans. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The negative stereotypes depicted by Tyler Perry, a successful African American male, sends a
message to his viewers. In addition, the motives behind Perry s support of stereotypes in his films are
inspired by personal traumatic experiences from his childhood and young adulthood.
Perry as an Individual Some of the extreme scenes in Tyler Perry s films can be traced back to his
childhood. Perry was born in a household that was not only abusive, but unstable. His father was a
verbally and physically abusive alcoholic who worked in construction. Perry revealed his father s
abusive ways in an interview stating his drunken father, got the vacuum cleaner extension cord and
trapped me in a room and beat me until the skin was coming off my back. Perry later found out that
the man who always abused him was not his biological father. His mother s one attempt to leave her
abusive husband failed when he reported the car stolen. She along with other family members went to
jail until the husband bailed them out. Perry s father was not the only abuser in his life, His
grandmother abused him as well. She thought he had germs on him and one day decided to kill those
germs by bathing him in in ammonia His upbringing was so difficult that he attempted suicide to
escape his brokenness. Perry regained control of his life by striking out on his own and pouring his
past pain into writing (Owoseje, 2014). Viewers unaware of

Marxism Essay
Marxism Marxist criticism is inherently existentialist. One cannot know anything without having been
exposed to it as some sort of life experience. There is no knowledge a priori, as some of the ancient
philosophers would have us believe. Rather, knowledge is accumulated a posteriori, through actual
experience. Therefore, there is almost nothing that is inherent and absolute in our knowledge. It can
never be purely objective, as knowledge is absorbed through the grid of our own perceptions, and that
grid is in turn formed through our youthful socialization within our particular culture. For this reason,
Marxist analysis does not allow gut feeling or individual bias to play too great a role in the debate. It is

What possible reason could there be for this except to instill greater respect for police officers lives
and fear into their would be assassins? One may argue that police officers are exposed to more
dangerous situations than the average citizen, but no more so than your average criminal. It is because
people perceive cops as good, as agents that preserve the social order, that their lives are accorded
more respect. Of course, preserving the social order preserves the status quo of power, keeping those
at the top in power and those at the bottom in deprivation. The police are thus representatives of the
authorities at the top of the social hierarchy, and this is where they derive their power and respect. On
the other hand, criminals are locked up in cages and exposed to an environment purposefully made
horrendous. Under the good and bad retributive theories, it is better to create a hell on earth for these
bad guys as some sort of payback for the suffering they have caused others. An eye for an eye
hearkens back to the Laws of Hammurabi, but there does not seem to be a readily available modern
explanation for why society propagates suffering with retributive theories of punishment. There are
also utilitarian theories of punishment: we are keeping the felons off the street for the greater safety of
the non felons. However, utilitarian theories do not account for the large percentage of the

Coral Reef Airborne Laboratory Report
The COral Reef Airborne Laboratory, or CORAL, is a water mission in the biosphere that will attempt
to measure the condition of certain coral reefs and create empirical models that show the relationship
between the condition of these reefs and other factors using both field and air observations. The
biogeophysical factors being observed include biodiversity, sea surface temperature,
photosynthetically available radiation, aragonite saturation state, significant wave height, and the
threat levels of coastal development, marine pollution, overfishing, watershed pollution, and
integrated local threat (Jet Propulsion Laboratory, n.d.). CORAL will help marine biologists monitor

Field observation is then performed to validate the observations made using the spectra of light

accurate (Jet Propulsion Laboratory, n.d.). The nominal operational altitude for the mission is 8.5

7.5 meters (Jet Propulsion Laboratory, n.d.). This will allow data to be collected in a wide distance,

enigmatic. A 2010 cohort study, with data collected since 1974, illustrated that CD increased 5 fold

substances such as MSG the unique ability to heighten and amplify taste, and is likely the reasoning

concept holds true. From that, which has been studied thus far this semester, Mexicans/ Mexican

Is multiculturalism a disruptive or an integrative force in Canadian society?
In terms of education, multiculturalism is becoming increasingly disruptive in Canadian society. It
seems that there is a new issue in the media focus regarding education on a weekly basis. It s
becoming increasingly apparent that most, if not all issues in recent years stem from the debate of
whether to centralize or decentralize our current system of education. Proponents of centralization
argue that a standard national system of education will provide all people with access to the same
quality of education. On the other hand, proponent s of decentralization claim that individual
educational institutions will provide a level of education that is sensitive to ... Show more content on

Also the provincial government is taking steps to standardize the level of education received by
students in Ontario. Programs like standardized testing for teachers and students as well as the
standardization of the curriculum were implemented. These programs are intended to provide all
students regardless of race or economic standing in any area of the province and equal opportunity to
succeed. These initiatives are part and parcel of increased demand by the Federal government to have
Canadian students rise to quot;levels equivalent to those achieved by students in Asia and Europe.
quot; (Lightbody, pg. 265) These steps however pay little heed to other cultures in the education
system. All courses on history or culture at the high school level are aimed to familiarize students with
the traditions, philosophy, literature and history of the western world. Proponents argue that this action
is appropriate since our country is based on a democracy founded in European ideals of government. It
is also claimed that there would not be enough time in the current school year to educate students on
every culture that has contributed to the construction of our society. Proponents for centralization
seem to prefer the quot;middle of the road approach quot; when making decisions on curriculum. It is
argued that trying to push the subject of multiculturalism too far would actually be a hindrance. Over
emphasis of multiculturalism may interfere with a student s

Similarities Between Massachusetts Bay And Virginia
Through the development of Virginia and Massachusetts Bay a few similarities can be noted, however,
the development of these two colonies were vastly different. First off we can notice the similarities;
both Virginia and Massachusetts Bay were founded by investors that funded colonists from England
over to the New World. Both of these colonies were formed with a hope for profit and both of these
colonies followed a government that consisted of counties with sheriffs and governors. As far as
economically successful colonies go, Massachusetts Bay proved to be the more successful of the two.
Virginia had a more appropriate climate for the production and growth of a wider variety of crops but
tobacco was their highest produced crop. Massachusetts

The Albanian Culture During The Ottoman Rule In Albania
Culture is what connects everyone to their roots and is what plays a great part of everyone s
personality. Every culture is unique and special in its own way. With this cultural project, I had an
opportunity to discover a different culture other than mine. I experienced the Albanian culture. Albania
is a small country in Southeastern Europe. Also, Albanians are the Balkan people who settled in
Albania and they call themselves Shqiptarë . In addition to Albanian culture, there are the religions
that have a great impact to their life. During the Ottoman rule in Albania, many Albanians converted
to Islam. However, Albanian Christians were not forced to convert so they just remained Christian. On
November 28th, 1912, Albania declared independence and was recognized as a country. After this
cultural experience and events that took place I was enlightened on the great Albanian culture.
In order to discover the Albanian culture, my good friend Albi allowed me to come into his home for
dinner. Including Albi there were 6 people who were there to experience the culture. Furthermore, it

Protein Replication
Proteins are the building blocks of the cells. Without them our cells would not have the genetic code
they need to build up our bodies. Proteins are synthesised or made in the ribosome with the help of
DNA and RNA. DNA is a double helix, or a twisted ladder shape, found in the nucleus and contains
the genetic code for organisms. RNA is found in the nucleus or in ribosomes and is composed of the
nucleotides ribose, phosphate group, and nitrogenous base. While in the nucleus, the RNA copies the
genetic code from the DNA and then it leaves the nucleus to go to a ribosome to pass the genetic code
to the protein. These two processes are called transcription and translation. Before transcription and
translation occur, the process of replication must begin. Replication is the process of creating a copy
of DNA from DNA. Semiconservative replication is a method of replication that involves three steps;
unwinding, base pairing, and joining. Unwinding occurs when the hydrogen bonds between the bases
of the double helix are broken leaving single strands of DNA. Next, base pairing between the new
strand and the old strand begins. The bases on each new strand match up with one another; A binds to
T and C binds to G. Lastly, the old strands and the new strand completely together to make a new copy
of DNA. The first official step of central dogma is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Essay On Keeping The Drinking Age
Without a doubt, the United States has been facing serious national problems with underage drinking.
Depending on personal ideologies, some people might not agree that the current minimum drinking
age of twenty one is based on scientific facts rather then ideology of prohibitionism. For example,
since 1975 over seventeen thousand lives have been saved since the minimum legal drinking age
(MLDA) was changed to age twenty one (Balkin 167). This shows that even over a short amount of
time, a higher MLDA helps decrease the risk of teen suicides, accidents and overdose deaths.
However, this widely debated topic has inevitably brought attention to the plethora of supporting and
opposing viewpoints. The minimum legal drinking age of twenty one ... Show more content on

Simultaneously, accidents involving automobiles without a doubt are devastating. How would one feel
if a loved one was killed in a collision due to an intoxicated driver? Wouldn t the individual want to do

Against Drunk Driving (MADD) and the 1984 National Minimum Drinking Age Act. This act gave
full federal highway funds only to states that set the minimum age to purchase or consume alcohol at
twenty one years (Sanghavi). Once all states raised their MLDA to twenty one years, drunk driving
accidents and deaths decreased. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the
reduction in traffic fatalities due to the legal drinking age of twenty one prevented 846 deaths in 1997
and prevented a total of 17,359 deaths since 1975 (Balkin 168). This single statistic shows that
automobile accidents have substantially decreased in response to the authorization of the National
Minimum Drinking Age Act. In addition, the average teenager earns their drivers license at the age of
seventeen. This being said, allowing a young driver with only one years experience (excluding a
learners permit) to legally consume alcohol would surely be an irresponsible decision. Most people

Wilmslow Road, an estate of substantial houses in spacious grounds. The prosperous business and
professional families could live there. Richard Foss and Edward Starkie were two minority
shareholders, and claimed that the property of the company had been misapplied and various
mortgages were given improperly over the company s property. During the general meeting, they said
that no action should be taken against them. At last, the Court dismissed and rejected the two
shareholders claim, and held that a breach of duty by the directors of the company was a wrong done
to the company for which it alone could sue. The first reason is because of the proper plaintiff rule is
that a wrong done to the company may be vindicated by the company alone where the corporation has
separate legal entity. The second reason is the majority rule principle , it states that if the alleged

Charge Of Mass Ratio Of The Electron
Charge to Mass Ratio of the Electron

PHYSICS 1750 01A
Professor Hoogewerff
Objective:
The objective of this lab was to find the ratio of charge to mass of an electron.
Background/ Motivation: The purpose of this lab was to find the ratio of charge to mass of an electron.
The charge to mass ratio of the electron is measured by accelerating electrons through a uniform
magnetic field with a constant potential difference. The electron moves in the magnetic field and the
equation for force of this electron moving can be manipulated to find e/m .
Theory:
For this lab, the charge to mass ratio of an electron was calculated by shooting an electron into a
uniform magnetic field causing the electron to accelerate radially inwards. This causes the electron to
feel a centripetal force, which can be calculated using the equation below, eB= (mv^2)/r
The centripetal force should be equivalent to the magnetic force, shown in the equation below, F_B=q(
v ⃗ × B ⃗)
Using this equivalence as well as the conservation of energy, it was possible to solve for the charge to
mass ratio. The magnetic force causes the electrons to move in a circular path which allows us to
model the force as a centripetal force. The electron beam speed, velocity, is created by the acceleration
voltage, Va, this is found by the following equation, eV_a= 1/2 mv^2
Setting both the centripetal force equation and speed equation equal to each other, we

POlitical Campaign Advertising Essays
Since 1952, television has played a major role in presidential elections. Television allows candidates
to reach a broad number of people, and personalities, to help push along their campaigns. Campaigns
help the candidates just as much as the voters. The candidates get to be identified, and known to the
voters, and the voters get to hear and see how a specific candidate identifies with their needs and
wants. The best way to get this information out there is through the most used form of media,
television.
When candidates develop a plan of attack for campaign advertising, they tend to aim for at least four
types of commercials. One form or type of commercial is those which play on the fears of

During the 2004 election, President Bush s campaign ads showed him to be a leader and a strong
president in a time when leadership was needed. Kerry s ad showed him to be a people person, and a
person who connects with the citizen of this country.
Political parties also use ads that make there opponent out to be the bad guy, and often these ads come
from what their opponent has said in the past. Candidates use information from the past to display the
image that there opponent can not be trusted and will go back on his or her word. This is typically
called flip flopping . When candidates make there opponent out to be a flip flopper, the opponent is
making things worst for themselves. The Republican Party ran a series of ads that made Senator Kerry
look like a flip flopper, and I think the overall effective ness of those ads was a major factor in the
election, but Senator Kerry also stated his claims and told the voter how he fells on the very same
issues that the republican party made senator Kerry to look indecisive on.
Campaigns that are introducing a candidate to mainstream national coverage tend to run ads that will
show a candidates history and their background. These ads might list what some might call the
qualification needed to be in office. These ads usually show a record of good decision making,

What was the Iroquois Confederacy, you ask? The Iroquois Confederacy was a remarkable fact in
history. It was composed of six large families, each having the dignified title of a nation. These nations
were named respectively, Mohawks, Oneidas, Onondagas, Cayugas Senecas, and later the Tuscarora.
They had formed a strong alliance in which each nation pledged to protect the others. This alliance
made the Iroquois very powerful. It protected them from outside enemies but ensured them of internal
peace. The Iroquois Confederacy had a great impact in the war of the French and Indian war. The

Walden And Transcendentalism
Indeed, Henry David Thoreau s Walden is considered to be a classic in American literature after
analyzing the themes and symbols it is apparent why this novel is so popular. My research of the novel
focuses solely on the key elements to Walden. Which are transcendentalism and the symbolism
constantly being repeated throughout the work. Specifically my research covers Thoreau s cabin,
transcendentalism, and other symbolic references. Consequently, Thoreau s cabin is considered to be
sacred ground amongst transcendentalists. The cabin is so sacred to them that they kept it around as a

Thoreau s fascination with the ice industry is acute. He describes in detail the Irish icemen who arrive
from Cambridge to cut, block, and haul away 10,000 tons of ice for use in city homes and fancy
hotels. The ice cutters are the only group of people ever said to arrive at Walden Pond as one. They
unavoidably represent society in miniature, with all the calculating abuse and terribly unfair
treatments that Thoreau sees in the world at large. So, the labor of the icemen on Walden becomes a
symbolic example of theargument of society and nature. Seemingly it would appear that society gets
the upper hand, as the frozen pond is chopped up, deformed, and destroy ten thousand tons of its
contents. But nature triumphs in the end, since less than twenty five percent of the ice ever reaches its
destination, the rest melting and disappearing on the way and making its way back to Walden Pond.
With this analysis, Thoreau hints that humankind s efforts to fully use (for profit) nature are without
success (or without purpose), since nature regenerates itself on a far greater scale than humans could
ever hope to affect, much less threaten. The icemen s mistreatment of Walden contrasts sharply with
Thoreau s less money based, morepoem related use of it. In describing the rare magical and
mysterious blue of

Why Did the 1905 Revolution Fail
Why did the 1905 revolution fail?
One of the main reasons that the 1905 revolution failed was because the October Manifesto merely
only satisfied the middle classes appetite for reform. However this was only a short term change in
government therefore it was not really a revolution because the changes were not permanent. To add,
the readiness of the liberals to accept the government s political and economical bribes indicted that
they were not genuinely ready for a revolution at this time. Furthermore the duma did not have as
much power as the tsar portrayed them to have. They were not able to pass laws and did not have any
control on the state s finance. To add, another reason why the 1905 revolution failed was because after

Anne Frank Changes
The holocaust was a horrible time in people s lives and it killed six million people. Even though this
happened to so many people Anne Frank was someone that so many people look up to because of her
diary that she wrote during this time. Anne Frank, her family, and the Van Danns all spent 25 months
in the secret annex. Dussel was someone that came in later so it was very tight for 8 people to be
living under certain circumstances for that long. They hoped to stay hidden until they were liberated
but they were caught and sadly the only one that lived through the concentration camps was Mr.Frank.
Many historical events took place in Anne Frank. Even though most of these things occurred while
they were in hiding, it still changed the characters mood and relationships.
To start Miep had been coming almost everyday to bring them food and get them things they need,
and she had just shown up with very exciting news for the families. Mr. Frank . . . the most wonderful
news! . . . The invasion has begun! (Hacket, 179) The first thing that stood out to me was that by Miep
telling them this news, relationships of the characters change from being mad at each other to being

A Review On Vitiligo Therapy
Introduction
Vitiligo is a disease in which the skin begins to lose pigment because melanin producing cells,
melanocytes, are absent or nonfunctional, leaving patches of white areas throughout the body.
Recently, ultraviolet B phototherapy (UVB) has been used to target areas of lesions in order to
repigment and stabilize vitiligo. This paper presents a review on vitiligo therapy that focuses on the
effects of ultraviolet B light and aims to examine the success rate of this specific therapy. In particular,
it will evaluate how UVB exactly induces melanocyte proliferation, whether the frequency of the
therapy or the total amount of sessions contribute to repigmentation, whether treatment can be
improved with the addition of a topical, and how stable the treatment is.
Treatment of vitiligo is done to control the progress of the disease and to achieve repigmentation in
lesions that have formed. An effective form of therapy is targeted UVB phototherapy which is based
on the finding that ultraviolet light can induce melanin synthesis leading to repigmentation.
Melanocyte loss in vitiligo is caused by immune attack operated by melanocyte specific T cells, innate
immunity, and melanocyte specific antibodies [5]. The therapy helps initiate a process known as neo
melanogenesis in which melanoblasts multiply and travel along the infundibulum outer root sheath to
the interfollicular epidermis in order to repopulate the epidermal areas as a response to DNA damaged
by UV light. (Brenner

  • 2. Pavel Alekseyevich Cherenkov and the Cherenkov Effect The 1958 Nobel Prize in Physics was awarded to Pavel Alekseyevich Cherenkov, Ilya Frank and Igor Tamm for the discovery and the interpretation of the Cherenkov Effect. Cherenkov radiation is the electromagnetic radiation emitted by particles moving through a medium faster than the speed of light in the same medium. It was fist a detected by Soviet scientist Pavel Alekseyevich Cherenkov, of who the effect is named after and a theory was later developed by Ilya Frank and Igor Tamm. Cherenkov s contributions still live on as an invaluable tool in today s nuclear and subatomic particle physics with examples that include a way to detect and quantify the characteristics of subatomic particles to analyzing high energy cosmic signals from the deepest regions of space. More down to earth uses consist of safety procedures for nuclear reactors and the detection of low concentration biomolecules in the sick and elderly. Despite the underprivileged life as the child of Russian peasants, Pavel Cherenkov was able to graduate from the Physics and Mathematics Faculty of Voronezh State University in 1928 and went onto a post graduate course at the Academy of Science in St. Petersburg. His work in physics soon promoted him to a senior scientific officer at the P.N. Lebedev Institute, more commonly known as the physics branch of the Academy of Science in Moscow. In this paper I would like to touch on some of the influences given in the book and out as evidence for my own interpretation of how our current model developed. With the coming of the modern age came a rapid influx of ideas; it was a time for revolutions to be made. I d like to start a bit before this time though to see how the shift began. In the premodern era conquering other peoples was very common. In a sense it was conquer, or be conquered. We rationalized that some people had progressed faster than others, and therefore that is why they were able to overtake other communities or nations. These people were civilized and the others savage . This difference in progress was a driving force in developing technologies and ideas to stay above the people it ruled over. To do this, a strong military and economy was needed. The developed nations needed the strongest population to defend, invade, produce, and profit. In addition to this, the ruling class felt that it was not fair to leave their colonies so underdeveloped; so in order to prevent the progression gap from widening it sought to help the poor savages. This was achieved by several efforts to better the health of societies ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It has the power to capture a woman: as a naïve, young girl clutching her brother as they are painted into a lasting portrait, a golden statue of an angel sent down to Earth to help a saved man take his first steps into an eternal life with God, to the powerful goddess, Artemis, transforming a hunter into a deer and having his hunting dogs tragically attack him. The six pieces of art chosen express the individuality of each women who has walked, walks, and will walk the earth. The painting Udney Maria Blakeley (1830), by Thomas Sully, was the first painting that came to mind when assigned the project: the painting has fascinated me both as a child and an adult due to the beauty of both the woman in the painting, but also from my deeper understanding of art now. Thomas Sully used the wet medium of oil on canvas, and included the woman in the foreground of the painting holding a rose in a vase in her right hand. There is a deep contrast between the women dressed in a white gown, and the darker background of the painting. Due to the highlighting along the left side of her face, and the shadowing on the right, it can be assumed that she is facing, or even looking straight at the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Parasites In The Stories Of Franz Kafka Franz Kafka was born to a middle class Jewish family that was plagued with tragedy because of the Nazi s reign of terror during World War II. Living during this extremely parasitic period in history, the theme would become the basis throughout the stories of Kafka. A parasite is defined by The Merriam Webster Dictionary as something that resembles a biological parasite in dependence on something else for existence or support without making a useful or adequate return. When reading the definition of parasite, one who has read any one of Kafka s stories could most likely attribute parasitism as a central theme in the stories. Kafka had a very difficult relationship with his parents, more so his father than his mother. His father had an authoritative personality that often controlled the Kafka home. His father had an impact on the characters traits in his [Kafka s] writing. That being said, his characters usually had overbearing power. These individuals, or sometimes parasites, could break the will of men and destroy their sense of self worth. His mother was a stay at home mother who did not have the intellectual experience to understand her son s dreams of becoming a writer. She was a parasite to Kafka himself. His family was the major theme generator in his writings. He used his family and events in his early life to establish a rather unknown theme of parasites in his writings. Essay Comparing Oedipus And Othello Sandy Rowan Sandy Christina Cannon English 1102 4 March 2018 Other People s Cups Both Sophocles s Oedipus the King and William Shakespeare s Othello, the Moor of Venice are well known for their tragic endings. At the end of each play, both of the main characters have suffered great loss to the point of no recovery. These endings are, unfortunately, a semi accurate depiction of very possible outcomes to anybody: bad things happen to good people. Although the endings of these two main characters are irredeemably unhappy, the lives of the rest of those in each play has their own chances. There is a theme of deterioration within Sophocles s Oedipus the King. Oedipus (the main character, king of Thebes) starts his downward spiral of deterioration when he starts to link himself to a prophecy that claimed he would kill his father and sleep with his mother when Jocasta describes how her former husband died and what he looked like starting in line 805. What some people may not know is that poems are categorized and there are many different types of groups within poetry. There are various types of poetry which include the sonnet. The sonnet was introduced by an Italian poet named Francesco Petrarch (1304 1374) who introduced the creation in the 13th century (Applebee 295). He wrote over 300 love sonnets, a great number of them were dedicated to a woman named Laura. Centuries passed in which sonnets were not as popular; his work was later rediscovered by two lovelorn poets. Their names were Sir Thomas Wyatt (1503 1542) and Henry Howard, earl of Surrey (1517 1547). They changed some of the rhyme scheme to tie in with the English language; Shakespeare went on to write many sonnets, he was very good and left a huge impact on the style of poetry. Later, an already famous poet, Edmund Spenser, kept the love based poems alive by continuing to write in the 15th century; he went on to change how they poem rhymed and had his style of writing named after him. Enough with its history, a sonnet is a structured poem that consists of 14 lines. There is no limitation on how long each line has to be in size; but they do all have one thing in common, there must be ten syllables per line. The poem is then divided into three quatrains; which is just a big word for a four lined unit. The final two lines are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

There is no knowledge a priori, as some of the ancient philosophers would have us believe. Rather, knowledge is accumulated a posteriori, through actual experience. It can never be purely objective, as knowledge is absorbed through the grid of our own perceptions, and that grid is in turn formed through our youthful socialization within our particular culture. Of course, preserving the social order preserves the status quo of power, keeping those at the top in power and those at the bottom in deprivation. The police are thus representatives of the authorities at the top of the social hierarchy, and this is where they derive their power and respect. • 32. Protein Replication Proteins are the building blocks of the cells. Without them our cells would not have the genetic code they need to build up our bodies. Proteins are synthesised or made in the ribosome with the help of DNA and RNA. DNA is a double helix, or a twisted ladder shape, found in the nucleus and contains the genetic code for organisms. RNA is found in the nucleus or in ribosomes and is composed of the nucleotides ribose, phosphate group, and nitrogenous base. While in the nucleus, the RNA copies the genetic code from the DNA and then it leaves the nucleus to go to a ribosome to pass the genetic code to the protein. These two processes are called transcription and translation. Before transcription and translation occur, the process of replication must begin. Replication is the process of creating a copy of DNA from DNA. Semiconservative replication is a method of replication that involves three steps; unwinding, base pairing, and joining. Unwinding occurs when the hydrogen bonds between the bases of the double helix are broken leaving single strands of DNA. Next, base pairing between the new strand and the old strand begins. The bases on each new strand match up with one another; A binds to T and C binds to G. Lastly, the old strands and the new strand completely together to make a new copy of DNA. Depending on personal ideologies, some people might not agree that the current minimum drinking age of twenty one is based on scientific facts rather then ideology of prohibitionism. For example, since 1975 over seventeen thousand lives have been saved since the minimum legal drinking age (MLDA) was changed to age twenty one (Balkin 167). This shows that even over a short amount of time, a higher MLDA helps decrease the risk of teen suicides, accidents and overdose deaths. The death of the Candy Lightner s daughter lead to her development of Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) and the 1984 National Minimum Drinking Age Act. This act gave full federal highway funds only to states that set the minimum age to purchase or consume alcohol at twenty one years (Sanghavi). Once all states raised their MLDA to twenty one years, drunk driving accidents and deaths decreased. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the reduction in traffic fatalities due to the legal drinking age of twenty one prevented 846 deaths in 1997 and prevented a total of 17,359 deaths since 1975 (Balkin 168). This single statistic shows that automobile accidents have substantially decreased in response to the authorization of the National Minimum Drinking Age Act. Harbottle In September 1835, Victoria Park Company was set up to establish a residential area to the east of Wilmslow Road, an estate of substantial houses in spacious grounds. Richard Foss and Edward Starkie were two minority shareholders, and claimed that the property of the company had been misapplied and various mortgages were given improperly over the company s property. During the general meeting, they said that no action should be taken against them. At last, the Court dismissed and rejected the two shareholders claim, and held that a breach of duty by the directors of the company was a wrong done to the company for which it alone could sue. The first reason is because of the proper plaintiff rule is that a wrong done to the company may be vindicated by the company alone where the corporation has separate legal entity. Charge Of Mass Ratio Of The Electron Charge to Mass Ratio of the Electron Cait McCormick 28 November 2016 PHYSICS 1750 01A Professor Hoogewerff Objective: The objective of this lab was to find the ratio of charge to mass of an electron. Background/ Motivation: The purpose of this lab was to find the ratio of charge to mass of an electron. The charge to mass ratio of the electron is measured by accelerating electrons through a uniform magnetic field with a constant potential difference. The electron moves in the magnetic field and the equation for force of this electron moving can be manipulated to find e/m . Theory: For this lab, the charge to mass ratio of an electron was calculated by shooting an electron into a uniform magnetic field causing the electron to accelerate radially inwards. This causes the electron to feel a centripetal force, which can be calculated using the equation below, eB= (mv^2)/r The centripetal force should be equivalent to the magnetic force, shown in the equation below, F_B=q( v ⃗ × B ⃗) Using this equivalence as well as the conservation of energy, it was possible to solve for the charge to mass ratio. The magnetic force causes the electrons to move in a circular path which allows us to model the force as a centripetal force. The electron beam speed, velocity, is created by the acceleration voltage, Va, this is found by the following equation, eV_a= 1/2 mv^2 Setting both the centripetal force equation and speed equation equal to each other, we ... The ice cutters are the only group of people ever said to arrive at Walden Pond as one. They unavoidably represent society in miniature, with all the calculating abuse and terribly unfair treatments that Thoreau sees in the world at large. So, the labor of the icemen on Walden becomes a symbolic example of theargument of society and nature. Seemingly it would appear that society gets the upper hand, as the frozen pond is chopped up, deformed, and destroy ten thousand tons of its contents. But nature triumphs in the end, since less than twenty five percent of the ice ever reaches its destination, the rest melting and disappearing on the way and making its way back to Walden Pond. With this analysis, Thoreau hints that humankind s efforts to fully use (for profit) nature are without success (or without purpose), since nature regenerates itself on a far greater scale than humans could ever hope to affect, much less threaten. • 44. A Review On Vitiligo Therapy Introduction Vitiligo is a disease in which the skin begins to lose pigment because melanin producing cells, melanocytes, are absent or nonfunctional, leaving patches of white areas throughout the body. Recently, ultraviolet B phototherapy (UVB) has been used to target areas of lesions in order to repigment and stabilize vitiligo. This paper presents a review on vitiligo therapy that focuses on the effects of ultraviolet B light and aims to examine the success rate of this specific therapy. In particular, it will evaluate how UVB exactly induces melanocyte proliferation, whether the frequency of the therapy or the total amount of sessions contribute to repigmentation, whether treatment can be improved with the addition of a topical, and how stable the treatment is. Treatment of vitiligo is done to control the progress of the disease and to achieve repigmentation in lesions that have formed. An effective form of therapy is targeted UVB phototherapy which is based on the finding that ultraviolet light can induce melanin synthesis leading to repigmentation. Melanocyte loss in vitiligo is caused by immune attack operated by melanocyte specific T cells, innate immunity, and melanocyte specific antibodies [5]. The therapy helps initiate a process known as neo melanogenesis in which melanoblasts multiply and travel along the infundibulum outer root sheath to the interfollicular epidermis in order to repopulate the epidermal areas as a response to DNA damaged by UV light.
