Angela Vicario Essay
Márquez uses the character of Angela Vicario to show the power women can possess over the men in
their lives. Angela Vicario is arguably the most powerful character in the novel, as she is the one who
tells her brothers that it was Santiago who took her virginity, which consequently sets the entire plot of
the story in motion. After Angela is returned by Bayardo San Román to her family due to the fact that
she is not a virgin, when her brothers ask who it was who took her virginity, Angela nailed [Santiago s
name] to the wall with her well aimed dart, like a butterfly with no will whose sentence has always
been written (Márquez 47). The way in which Angela searches for Santiago s name shows that it may
not have been Santiago who had taken ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Santiago is also referred to as a butterfly, a very fragile creature, with no will or say in what happens
to it. This insinuates that even if he was to try, Santiago Nasar would never be able to free himself
from the fate Angela s words set for him. This goes directly against the social norms of the time, in
which Santiago, the wealthy man, should be able to control Angela, the poor woman. Angela s
statement that it was Santiago who took her virginity also exercises a certain control over her brothers.
In the trial, Pablo and Pedro declared that they would have done it again a thousand times over for the
same reason (Márquez 48). Even though they did have their own free will in committing the murders,
Pablo and Pedro did not question their decision to murder Santiago in defense of Angela s honor. By
making the accusation, Angela is controlling her brothers as well, as it is clear that they will end up
doing something to protect their sister s purity. Whether Angela intentionally wanted Santiago to end
up dead or not, it is still clear that at this point in the novel, she is exercising a control over Santiago,
Pablo, and

Titus Andronicus By William Shakespeare
The play Titus Andronicus by William Shakespeare depicts the Roman Empire from a very traditional
perspective within each of the characters. Shakespeare creates a visual of historical Rome that
includes many blood battles, deception, courage and loyalty not just to Rome and her people, but to
one s family. By doing this, Shakespeare shows the reader that Rome was a great city of power that
revolved around the idea that justice must be of an equivalent manner suitable to the crime committed
by the other party. The word Rome , both historically and in modern times, is often defined as being
the perfect model for an advanced civilization, and many looked upon Rome and Romans as being
examples of excellence for architecture and political advances within a society . ( Rome , OED
Online). The word Rome is seen frequently throughout the play and is used by almost all of the
characters. It is a word that describes what Roman civilization entails and how the city of Rome can
be a very dark and cruel city. The Roman characters in particular describe the two main concepts of
Rome and Roman by means of traditional birth right and traditional forms of justice. Both meanings
are seen frequently amongst each Roman character. By fully understanding why particular events in
the play occur and being able to see the traditional aspects of the word Rome among each character, it
aids the reader in understanding how the play revolves around the historical context of Roman values

Little Rascals Day Care Research Paper
In the spring of 1990 in Edenton North Carolina seven people including the owners and the staff
members of the Little Rascals Day Care Center had been arrested and charged with sexually abuse.
The mother Audrey Stever, who was concerned about her 3 year old Kyle reported the details of the
abuse to authority. Seven staff members that worked in the Little Rascals day care were innocently
accused of sexually abusing the majority of the children that attended the Little Rascals day care. This
is a witch hunt because the co workers were blamed. Put to jail, and judged for a crime they never
committed.
During the opening trial of the little rascals day care therapists and medical doctors had identified
dozens of McMartin childrens as sexual abuse.

Summary Of Abraham Lincoln sFraming Sustainability By...
In Framing Sustainability by David W. Orr took a historical known leader, Abraham Lincoln used him
to show how he thinks sustainability should be approached. Lincoln had to deal with a very
controversial topic as president, which was slavery, some people approved of it and others did not.
Like sustainability some people believe that is not important while others do. David felt like in some
sense both topics are controversial and have supporters and opposers that maybe if we approached the
topic of sustainability gently Like Lincoln did with slavery that more people would be open minded
and take into consideration that sustainability is truly important. Taking Lincolns approach and
reaching out to all people and not limiting the discussion ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Think about it, if something is constantly being told to a person it will stick with them, if there was
more awareness on sustainability like big campaigns like you on Tabaco on tv more people would pay
more attention. Also, not only having a clear message and attention of people but having a diverse
audience is a very big key too.
Having a diverse audience is always necessary; being able to have all people being able to relate the
topic of discussion. To have a diverse audience one must have some relatable factors and or make sure
they use language that is common and is not too vague. In the text Lincoln built his case from sources
familiar to his audience the Declaration of Independence, the constitution, and bible Lincoln
referenced historical documents the Declaration of Independence granted the thirteen colonies
freedom from Great Britain and the Constitution sets up the government and creates the three branches
of government along with checks and balances. Then the bible is a religious book that Christians refer
to and Christian was a popular religion the United States at the time and especially in the south
considering that south was known as the Bible Belt so using the bible as a common factor to get
people s attention was a wise move but Lincoln did not make them the focus point. But dealing with
sustainability what would be a common factor to

Vertigo Case Studies
This literature review will assess the value of magnetic resonance (MR) and computed tomography
(CT) in detecting pathologies associated with vertigo. The common two types of vertigo peripheral
and central vertigo are defined. Previous studies suggest that both MR and CT are good options for
detecting semicircular dehiscence syndrome related peripheral vertigo. Although the accuracy rates of
MR and CT are comparable in detecting acute intracranial hemorrhage, MR has an overall higher
diagnostic yield for stroke and multiple sclerosis related central vertigo. In clinical practice, hospitals
take cost into consideration when making patients care plan. Having every patient go through imaging
examination can be time consuming and expensive. Peripheral ... Show more content on

In their study, 217 of 356 patients had a final clinical diagnosis of acute stroke. 27 of these patients
were diagnosed with acute intracranial hemorrhage. MR detected this condition in 23 patients
compared with CT in 25 patients. 190 of the patients were diagnosed with acute ischemia. MR
correctly identified 164 patients compared with 35 in CT. Table 1 summarizes the statistics of these
data (Chalela et al., 2007). In comparison with the final clinical diagnosis, MRI had a higher
sensitivity of 83% and a specificity of 97% for diagnosis of acute stroke, compared with 26% and
98% respectively for CT. For acute intracranial hemorrhage, MRI had a sensitivity of 81% and a
specificity of 100%, compared with 89% and 100% respectively for CT. For acute ischemia, MRI had
a sensitivity of 83% and a specificity of 96%, compared with 16% and 98% respectively for CT
(Chalela et al., 2007). Chalela s findings are consistent with previous literature. In Viirre and Nelson s
study, they have also found that CT and MRI have similar sensitivity for detecting hemorrhage. In
addition, they have also found that MRI has superior sensitivity of 83% compared to 26% for CT
when detecting ischemia (Nelson and Viirre, 2009). MR and CT in Identifying Multiple

Underlying Cause Of World War 1 Essay
What was the Underlying Cause of World War One? World war one was one of the biggest and
bloodiest wars to ever happen in human history. Over 9 million people died. The war began on July
28, 1914 and lasted until November 11, 1918. The main cause of such a large scale war was alliances.
There were reasons such as militarism and the assassination of Archduke Ferdinand. One underlying
cause of World War one was the assassination of Archduke Ferdinand. This assassination sparked
World War one. On June 28, 1914 a member of a terrorist group named The Black Hand assassinated
him when his driver took a wrong turn in Sarajevo, Bosnia. Archduke Ferdinand was the heir to the
Austro Hungarian throne. His assassination outraged the country, which led them to declare war on
Serbia. Once war was declared on Serbia, Russia came to their side, which created an alliance.
Another underlying cause of World War one was militarism. During World War one many countries
were determined to use military force to solve political problems. Many countries were stockpiling
mass amounts of weapons in preparation for a large scale war. There was also a huge naval arms race

Self Evaluation As A Writer
Self Evaluation As a writer I can feel myself improving, but there is still a lot of work to be done. I
used to hate writing because it was not one of the things that I am strong at but now I don t mind it.
Thanks to the writing lab I feel more comfortable when turning in papers because they go over the
paper with you sentence by sentence. A few things that I know I need to work on and I really struggle
with is fragments and comma splices. I honestly do not fully understand what they mean. For the next
paper I feel as if I should do some research on how to fix those errors on my own, rather than relying
on the person who edits my paper. I feel as if it would be in my best interest to find a website that

Narrative by Judith Ortiz Cofer Essay
The narrative written by Judith Ortiz Cofer discusses some of the many experiences she has
encountered throughout her life dealing with stereotypes and common misconceptions of Latin
American women. To further engage her audience in the story, she provides detailed past experiences
that have stood out to her the most. In order for the readers to fully understand those past encounters,
some of which are cultural and common among Latinos, Cofer explains them in careful detail. For
example, Cofer explains the concept of piropos which are poems composed on the spot by men to
women as a form of admiration. This helps her introduce the audience to her own experiences with
piropos and how she has dealt with them throughout her life. One of the ... Show more content on

She knew how to dress for specific occasions such as a Sunday mass or a party, but this was a
challenge. This shows the audience that Latin girls dress the way they do because of their cultural
background and something that is considered acceptable in Latin America can differ from what is
acceptable in North America. Cofer goes on to discuss how the way Latin women dress can be
misinterpreted as a come on to men when in fact, that usually isn t the case because dressing that way
is normal and even encouraged by Latin mothers. The point Cofer was trying to display in her
narrative was that the outward appearance of Latin women should not be mistaken with who they are
but rather be considered as part of their culture. This narrative describes a cultural clash between
America s mainstream views and opinions and Latin women who have to struggle with these
stereotypes from a young age. Career Day is one of the examples in which Cofer experienced falling
under one of those stereotypes and feeling like an outcast when the nuns at her school displayed the
Latin girls as the negative models of Career Day. Cofer s strong opinions against these stereotypes is
made clear throughout the story as she explains random instances she remembers of how others view
Latin girls and how the media often objectifies women comparing them to Hot Tamales and other

Physical Abuse Of The Elderly In The United States
In the United States, people with disabilities are often treated badly by the society. The reason that
elders are being abused is due to the fact that they are disabled. People with disabilities cannot do
things for themselves, so they rely on other people. Elders abuse come in many types of forms. For
instance, it could be physical, emotional, or financial exploitation abuse. Therefore, elders need
someone who they could rely on and give them the good care that they need.
According to Elder Abuse and Neglect, physical abuse to elders is when you hurt elders physically.
Sometimes physical abuse could be a result of scars, bruises, and another type of marks that you could

Female Convicts As A Subject Of Historical Discussion
There has been a lack of interest in female convicts as a subject of historical discussion. The history of
female convicts has traditionally been incorporated into the framework of male convicts with grave
reference to the male convict experience. The convict women who were transported to Australia on
ships Elizabeth 5th and Henry Wellesley in 1836 faced extreme difficulty in achieving freedom and
reputability. It is the view of many historians that women were incorporated into a pattern initially
designed to accommodate men . This essay will investigate the origins and characteristics of a sample
of 10 female convicts arriving to Sydney in1836. The essay aims to establish an alternative impression
of the female convicts that were deemed damned whores, skill less and prostitutes. In agreement with
the 4 of the 5 studied historians, I hold the view that the women were the victims of a repressive
patriarchal society and the appellation of female convicts as damned whores is totally inadequate. I
believe they were not members of a professional criminal class; they were humans with basic human
needs, doing anything they could to survive. The female convicts exported to Australia have been the
subjects of investigation since transportation commenced. Many historians set out to determine
whether the female convicts were vicious criminals or innocent victims . Garton s article researches
the debate concerning the origins and characteristics of the convicts being

The Effects Of Stress On First Year Students Essay
Stress and Learning: The Effects of Stress on First Year Students
A young college student sits at a mundane wooden desk. He s frantically working on an essay that he
has already spent days writing. He needs to finish this English essay so he can move on to work
regarding the speech outline that is due later in the evening. In addition to that, he also has two tests
the next day that require a few hours of review each. He never pictured college to be a cakewalk but
never did he imagine it would take this much to earn a decent grade. This is the reality for most
college students, especially ones in their first year. It s a difficult struggle but everyone that s been
through college has been here before: cramming for tests, spending hours writing essays, reading
chapter after chapter of thousand page books, the late nights studying... The stress is an atrocious beast
everyone with a degree has had to battle. Stress is commonplace among college students, especially
ones fresh out of high school due to the newly found freedoms they enjoy conflicting with the colossal
amount of responsibility gained at the same rate. How does all of this stress affect the process of
learning? First, it must be understood that learning is a biological process within the brain. Robert
Leamnson, The author of Thinking About Teaching and Learning , describes the biological process as

Essay about Jane Addams
An American pragmatist and feminist, Hull House founder Jane Addams (1860 1935) came of age in
time of increasing tensions and division between segments of the American society, a division that
was reflected in debates about educational reform. In the midst of this diversity, Addams saw the
profoundly interdependent nature of all social and political interaction, and she aligned her efforts to
support, emphasize and increase this interdependence. Education was one of the ways she relied on to
overcome class disparity, as well as to increase interaction between classes. Her theories about the
interdependent nature of living in a democracy provided a backdrop for her educational theory.
Education, she thought, needed to produce people who ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They have no common, collective faith. The labor movement in America displays this mark of its
youth and immaturity (Addams 61). In the same tone, she believed that the working class and
capitalists were not warring classes, but part of the same democratic society. The character of
American unions was predicted by Addams to be limited and disappointing. She supported the
workers goals of a shorter workday, increased wages, better industrial and general education, and
worker protection in the marketplace, but qualified her support when she wrote that the movement
does not want to lose sight of the end in securing the means, nor assume success, nor even necessarily
the beginnings of success, when these first aim are attained (Addams 62). Addams saw the definition
of society as warring classes as one that damned society as a whole. The literal notion of brotherhood
demanded a beginning of universal kinship: before this larger vision of life there can be no perception
of sides and battle array (Addams 64). Labor unions became, in fact, the tools of capitalists by
reducing their talks to single industry issues. Addams clearly did not support the Marxist vision of
labor, although she frequently read writers adopting this perspective. As a pragmatist, Addams
advocated a number of laws to protect the worker, especially women workers, which

Non-Ruminant Animal Digestive System Differences
Non Ruminant and Ruminant Animals Digestive System Differences
Non Ruminant
Non ruminant animals are just like humans, they digest their food just the once if they are able to
digest it and it is good food and the one stomach works on it.
The non ruminant digestive system works so that our stomach churns the food so it is into tiny little
pieces, and makes sure that the food we eat is fully digested and the stomach muscles contract in order
to churn food. The small intestine then absorbs and digests 90% of the food we eat and then absorbs
minerals and nutrients, the large intestine then absorbs water from the remaining indigested food and
transports waste material from our bodies, the rectum then temporarily stores our faeces until it is full
and then faeces excrete from our anuses.

The second part of the ruminant digestive system, works together with the rumen, both act as a

the cow s water and filters it. The fourth and final stomach chamber, the stomach chamber that is the
most similar to a non ruminant stomach. This works on indigested food and breaks it down before it
moves to the small intestine. The small intestine absorbs nutrients from already broken down food.
The large intestine absorbs water intake in the diet and converts the food into faeces that then move

Victoria Chemicals Report
Introduction The following report shows that the proposal of the modernisation project should obtain
funding from the corporate headquarters of Victoria Chemicals. The project has an initial outlay of
GBP12 million to renovate and rationalise the polypropylene production line at Merseyside plant. This
is done in order to make up for deferred maintenance and exploit opportunities to achieve increased
efficiency. This report will look at the following four main areas of concern in order to calculate the
feasibility of this Merseyside Project: * The cost of GBP2 million for the purchase of new rolling
stock being allocated to the Transport Division or to the Merseyside project. * The cannibalization
affect on Rotterdam ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Transport Division would have to pay nothing if it was included in the initial outlay of the
Merseyside Project, yet the Transport Division would gain the benefits from the project with extra
throughput 2 years early at no cost to them, except increased maintenance of their trucks. We do
acknowledge that this is a big assumption to make saying that the Merseyside project should not take
on any transport costs. Therefore we put in the clause that if taking on the Merseyside project
decreases the NPV of their project we can come to some sort of agreement over the percentage of
costs each division should take for the purchase of the new tank cars. There is also an agency problem
here with the executive VP of Transport Division and Intermediate Chemicals Group who receive an
annual incentive bonus pegged to the performance of their division. Hence both executive VP s would
want to reduce costs as much as possible and try off load any cost they can to another division.
Concerns of the ICG Sales and Marketing Department The director of sales raised the issue that the
company wouldn t be able to sell the extra output that the project would produce. Instead of selling
more units in total the Liverpool plant would just cannibalize Rotterdam s sales. Therefore the
company would not be able to take full advantage of the efficiencies of the new project. We disagree
with the directors belief that the new sales will all be

The History Of Jazz
History of Jazz Jazz originated in New Orleans as a byproduct to the unique culturally rich

Mankind s interrelation with manufacturing systems has a long history. Nowadays we see
manufacturing systems and their applications as systems in which goods are produced and delivered to
the suitable places where we can obtain them. We are conscious of the fact that everything we

This machine was so simple that it had no moving parts. It also used up lots and lots of coal just to
pump a small quantity of water. (Phil Shapiro) Nevertheless, Thomas Savery became the first man to
produce a workable apparatus for raising water. In detail, Savery s apparatus was able to draw water
up by suction to a height of approximately twenty six to twenty eight feet. The water was able to reach
this height due to atmospheric pressure and the condensation of steam within the closed vessel. Savery
was the first to make the necessary connection between steam power and atmospheric pressure.
Without adding in atmospheric pressure, steam power may have never been harnessed. (Robert H.
Thurston) Savery became the first to put the method of raising water by fire to use for draining mines.
To say it was a steam engine that would be to stretch the world engine far beyond its current meaning.
However, it would be fair to say that Savery was the first person to find a practical way of using steam
to perform useful work.
The next milestone in the history of the steam engine was a result of the work of Thomas Newcomen,
who was not quickly recognized for his achievements or contributions to the steam engine. His engine
was introduced in 1712 and was basically a combination of the boiler used in Savery s engine with a
cylinder and pump. The Newcomen model was unlike other engines up to this time. It was the first

They both had that special mix of country and R B that excited the nation, and they had the sex appeal
that drove the teenage population wild. However, Presley was seen more as the heartthrob of the
America while Berry was arrested multiple times before and during his career. Elvis Presley and
Chuck Berry s influence on rock and roll in the 1940 s and 50 s was more dependent on their skin
color than on the level of their talents. Elvis Presley and Chuck Berry had many similarities and
differences during their careers. They were both fresh, young men who had something new and
special to offer the music industry. They blended country music with R B in a unique way that hadn t
been done before. However, the way they got their big breaks was significantly different. Chuck Berry
had created a quartet while he was in prison for auto theft. He had obstacles ahead of him as a black
man that Elvis would never have. In fact, Elvis had just walked into Sun Studios to privately record
his music, a very different opportunity that Berry would not have gotten. The studio s owner, Sam
Phillips said Elvis had exactly what he was looking for, a white singer with the negro sound and the
negro feel. Which is

Roatan Research Paper
The Bay Islands consist of the three islands of Roatan, Guanaja, and Utila as well as the smaller
islands of Barbareta, Morat, St. Helena, plus 53 cays. These form a small archipelago which lies along
the world s second largest barrier reef. Roatan is its jewel, and the largest at 45 miles long and about
three miles wide. The island, which was discovered by Christopher Columbus in 1502, is the top of a
granite mountain rising from the sea. This gives Roatan its lush, hilly landscape, which offers dramatic
sea view vistas and some of the most exceptional home sites available in the Carribean. While Roatan
is now a part of Honduras, its colorful history has meant that the island s culture feels a world apart.

Reflection On Civic Mirror
Civic Mirror Final Reflection Assignment 1) After playing Civic Mirror for three years, I learned
lessons that I never would have imagined of learning in grade 10 civics. The most important thing I
discovered was the significance of participating and posessing initiative in order to be a successful
member of society. During the first year, I did not make many trades as I had little money, was too
nervous to raise my concerns in Town Hall and did not find it important to sue anyone in National
Court. Along with preventing me from obtaining a high score, not participating restricted me from
enjoying myself in Civic Mirror like others did. However, once I increased my participation and took
the initiative to trade, I found that my grade in Civic Mirror increased, I looked forward to come to
class and I spoke with people whom I had never talked to before. Secondly, Civic Mirror helped me
realize the necessity of having a source of income in order to be a prosperous citizen. During the
auction, I did not buy a hex as I had very little money and could not afford it. Although the money I
had originally been given sufficed me for the first year, the lack of money made it very difficult to
fulfill my family s needs for the next two years. This experience allowed me to understand that when I
grow up and become a self sufficient member of society, it is extremely important that I have a secure
source of income. Along with helping me fulfill my needs, the money that I

The Importance Of Abortion
Abortions are sometimes not given the proportion that it should have. Which causes young teens to
abort or not be educated enough on the affects after. In today s society women all around the world
have many opinions on abortions. Some believe that no matter the circumstances you should not be
allowed to kill your unborn child. Others believe that you should have the choose to do what is best
for you and the baby. Sometimes mothers have an understandable reasoning, such as not being able to
provide, care, or rape victim. Just imagine a world with abortions not existing, what would mothers
do.?
It is often argued that women should not have the right to have an abortion. Some people believe that
once you are pregnant, killing the fetus is murder. Some may say that the right to abortions is
acceptable and all women should have the right to make their own choice. In my eyes I am against
abortions, but I do believe that women should do what s best based on the circumstances. To take
away the ability of a woman choice to do with her body is basically taking away their civil rights. Just
think about a young teen girl becoming pregnant and not ready to take care of the baby, the young teen
only choice might only be abortion, so taking that right away affects not only the mother but their life.
However, there are many health risks that comes with having an abortion. Such as, depression, felling
guilty, and suicide attempts. Not many people think about the risk of having an

Founded in Straun, Ontario by Richard Lynch, the Fork and Dagger Pub was a growing business and
showed much success after opening in 1993. By using word of mouth advertising with the high traffic
taken in from playing the Norway Olympics in the pub, the Fork and Dagger Pub found itself with a
lot of sports enthusiasts as regular customers as well as students from local schools. But since 2008,
the Fork and Dagger Pub has declined in revenue and local patrons have seemed to vanish. With new

Only business essential expenses were kept the same. So it would appear that external factors are to
blame for the Pub s revenue decline, for the only internal factor to compromise the pub s business is
the lack of change and innovation to the bar atmosphere and scenic value. Overall the Fork and
Dagger Pub has been identified as unfocused market strategy, and in need of a desperate change, for it
cannot keep up with new and growing businesses in the local area.
The Fork and Dagger Pub has currently two business proposals to help improve and regain revenue
for the establishment. Richard s two sons, Jason Bradley, both has prepared general ideas of where
they can take the business s target market. Jason s business proposal involves changing the restaurant s
old and outdated décor and working on promoting the business to compete with others bars. His plan
outlines purchasing pool tables ($5000 each), karaoke machine ($1500), DJ nights ($75 $125 an hour),
as well as overall renovating the interior (base at $6000) and changing for new tables and chairs at
$2000 a piece. He also hasn t really focused on the promotion side, but has ideas for Ladies Night,

The United States Has Been A Target For Many Immigrants
The United States has been a target for many immigrants across the globe and is seen as a beacon of
hope and opportunity. Ever since the first non Americans arrived to the United States, for that reason,
these immigrants were placed into specific categories in order to be differentiated from different
groups of people. The name for the group that an immigrant would be placed, depended usually where
the person came from, in some cases their religion or their nativity. The force placement into these
types of groups, might come into conflict with the immigrant s identity, specifically their ethnic
identity. John Hartigan, in Race in The 21st Century, defines ethnic identity as a group in which one

This is the case with the indigenous people of Mexico. In most cases indigenous people in Mexico are
denied their political rights, but the Mexican president wants to give the false image that there are all
Mexicans (Fox pg 3). It is clear that the relationship between Mexicans and the indigenous people is
jarred. There is a possibility that this relationship transcends across the border into the US. If the
behavior does continue into the US, then it is quit possible that indigenous Mexican immigrants would
distance themselves from other Mexicans identity wise. There has been much research about Mexican
immigrants in general and the change of identity that these immigrants have once they complete the
move into the United States. Most of the research that target this topic have been case studies of
Mexican immigrants, and according to some documents Mexican immigrants aren t as disposed to just
accept the label Mexican or Mexican immigrant, but instead look for a label that best fits them and a
group of people that they can connect with as well. This research is important because it provides
evidence that not immigrants are accepting to be called Mexican immigrants or Mexican in general
because it does not correctly identify them the correct way in which they d like to be. Another aspect
of research that has been done that is also important to this topic is relationship between fellow
immigrants from Mexico in the 1950s and 60s because during this time period,

In fact the first passage is neutral and suggests only that she is familiar with the New Woman s
insistence on greater freedom and physical activity, attributes which Gail Cunningham mentions in her
discussion:
It was pointed out that women were likely to remain the weaker sex as long as they were encased in
whalebone and confined their physical activity to the decorous movements of the ballroom, and the
new doctrine of hygiene as it was coyly termed advocated sports for women and Rational Dress. Many
young women pedalled their way to undreamt of freedoms on the newly popular bicycle; petticoats
and chaperons were equally inappropriate accompaniments, and could be discarded in one go.8
Bicycle riding, bloomers, and badminton may have shocked more conservative people in the 1890s,
but they were probably not enough to worry Stoker or his heroine. Nor was the fact that the New
Woman was often a professional woman who chose financial independence and personal fulfilment as
alternatives to marriage and motherhood. Cunningham adds that while these activities were important
aspects of emancipation, they are not, however, responsible for the New Woman s becoming a symbol
of all that was most challenging and dangerous in advanced thinking. The crucial factor was,
inevitably, sex (Cunningham, p. 2).
When it came to sex the New Woman was more frank and open than her predecessors. She felt free to

A Gravestone Made of Wheat
In short stories, often an author can find him/herself limited on space to develop one or more of the
story s characters. A skilled author can use small vignettes to relate instances of character development
that can be used to infer a relationship with the character. These passages can be a line or two, but can
carry the weight of a full chapter if executed properly. Will Weaver paints an idyllic farm scene in A
Gravestone Made of Wheat, featuring a full cast of traditional characters. Nevertheless, through
glimpses into specific instances in Olaf and Inge s respective lives together, the audience can
appreciate their nontraditional nature. Weaver s short story opens with a confrontation between a small

For five long weeks the couple longs for letters from Germany proving Inge s character, all while
remaining apart. When the letters finally arrive, and still Inge is denied citizenship, the frustration
shared between the couple reaches a tipping point. Yet still, the couple remains steadfast in their
decision to remain apart before marriage. This display of strength, in the face of an illogical system
stands to prove the traditional nature of both Inge and Olaf. While much of the story is dedicated to
the portrayal of Olaf and Inge as traditional old country farm type, there is much to be said for their
radical attitudes. While the couple did decide to remain abstinent during the initial naturalization
process, Inge and Olaf did live in close enough quarters to raise the eyebrows of a stark traditionalist.
Olaf bathes bare chested in full view of his admiring wife, and Inge catches Olaf admiring her looks as
she cooks breakfast for him. The couple falls madly in love with each other as they wait to marry, and
their traditional defenses slowly slip away. They stay up late at night, with nobody else around, to talk
and spend time in the other s company. When Inge is required by the judge to wait a year before he
will approve her naturalization, Inge breaks the barrier surrounding their relationship; first in the
courthouse, where she gives up on the systematic exclusion, and then further in the hayloft where she
lies with Olaf for the first time. These

Introduction: The experiment deals with many different parts and one of them is gas, a substance that
moves freel through the air and their particles are stread farther away from each other when compared
to the other states of matter. The difference between the states of matter are how close the particles are
to each other. The experiment was completed to find how pressure affects the number of particles.

The Effects Of Heroin Abuse
Heroin use has steadily increased post Vietnam to current day, although it has seen a sharp climb in
recent years. This sudden spark in heroin addiction is termed the Heroin epidemic. The Heroin
epidemic can affect all members of society, and it does not discriminate between race, income level or
gender; the government fights the war on drugs but the community and mass media are vital in the
total annihilation of addiction and the epidemic. Many Heroin users first interacted with opioids, such
as painkillers which is a close relative to heroin, but the cost was too much, so they turned to a cheap
and destructive drug, Heroin. Heroin inherits its addictiveness from the opioid family. Opioids are
extremely addictive painkillers such as OxyContin ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The drug is a part of the highly addictive opioid family, which are used to make painkillers needed by
many Americans. The issue is that the many Americans who have used painkillers, whether prescribed
or taken illegally, are forty times more likely to try heroin ( Today s Heroin Epidemic ). The epidemic
is hard to control because it effects everyone. Not one gender, race or economic level is considered
safe from the abuse of this substance. The government has been attempting to end the high levels of
abuse in America since the late sixties, but old methods proved costly and ineffective. The
transitioning of viewing heroin addiction as a crime to mental health has reaped some benefits.
Facilities now a days have made break throughs in assuring better futures for addicts by proving them
with proper treatment and arming them with correct knowledge of how to combat their disease.
Heroin has sparked an important discussion in society involving media, race, sex and economic status,
and the epidemic forced the federal government to act accordingly, which allowed communities to
properly react and try to lower addiction. Though the rise of heroin use will most likely continue, the
epidemic has to eventually come to an end; whether the government makes a final push to eliminate
drug use completely or police enforcement cuts down on dealers, the epidemic eventually

Research Paper On Airplanes
World War was had been the first major conflict that saw use of the newly invented airplane.
Newspapers filled with stories of daring pilots, valiantly taking down the opposing Luftwaffe. Ace
became a term for a pilot who successfully shot down at least five enemy aircraft; however there were
a special few pilots who far surpassed this and went down in history as the top aces. America s Ace of
Aces was Eddie Rickenbacker who throughout the war won twenty six aerial victories, and earned the

Message Dover, Thrush and Digging There are many messages in this poem. Dover, Thrush and
Digging is a very synthetic poem and gives many reason why and how we live our lives. Some always
question their lives and here are some things that we need to live by. Like don t take your youth for
granted, don t let old age get to you and don t mess up while you are young because it will catch up to
you. Also I m going into depth with them. To begin, Dover is about don t take your youth for granted
because their will be things you will regret and there will be things you wished you did while you had
the energy and the spirit. The things you could regret; would be like making some really stupid
decisions. You could have been a rebel when you were in your youth. Like if you broke your back for
doing a dare and now that you re older you have some really bad pains and can t really do much. Also
there could be like if you got a girl pregnant and you were really young so you had to start working at
a really young and had to quit school, so then you wouldn t have as much education under your belt.
Then that means that you will be stuck working a job that you don t like and you can t get a better if

New Madrid Seismic Zone Report
Claim The New Madrid Seismic Zone (NMSZ) gets multiple small earthquakes a year, it being odd
because it is in the middle of North America, rather than the edge like California. Researchers tried to
find an explanation to why earthquakes are occurring in an uncommon area and what the cause is.
Data The NMSZ is in the center of the continent and this caused scientists to figure out what happened
to cause the land to move. Furthermore, the area was a difficult place to study since it barely had large
earthquakes and the gathered data had shown three earthquakes in 1811 1812 that were above a 7.0 on
the Richter Scale and discovered over 200 small earthquakes occur a year. However, researchers

Flight attendants sang instructions and pilots cracked jokes. Kelleher continually cultivated such a fun
loving attitude at the company. He arm wrestled the CEO of another airline for the rights to use a
slogan and posed as Elvis for an advertising campaign. Kelleher seemed to have boundless energy,
sleeping only four to five hours a night and reading several books each week. When he was made

an airport at 2am to throw a special barbeque.
Kelleher told Investor¡¦s Business Daily that the Southwest spirit was ¡§the core of our success.

Plato Vs Aristotle Vs Plato
Plato and Aristotle had a considerable amount of differences in ideology given that Aristotle was Plato
s student for roughly two decades. Plato, a student of Socrates, opposed the idea of average citizens to
participate in politics because he believed that political practice was skill or technē that can only be
achieved by a few people. He believed that kings must be those among them who have proved best
both in philosophy and where war is concerned. (Republic, 491) and that these philosopher kings were
the only people fit to rule a government, or the government would be doomed to fail. Aristotle is
highly critical of Plato and his ideal constitution but he does find a similar form of ruling class to be
ideal. He believes, in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They hold the job of protecting the city and well as making all of the diplomatic decisions. They
cannot bother themselves with wordy possessions, like property or family and must live in communes
with the other guardians. The idea is for the guardians to only find importance in leading and
protecting the city and not with their personal lives.
To be apart of the guardian class, one must participate in extraneous education, physical activity and
must be virtuous and brave. The guardians in the just city are what are considered philosopher kings .
In book 5 of Republic, the ideology of a philosopher king is expanded upon:
Until philosophers rule as kings in their cities, or those who are nowadays called kings and leading
men become genuine and adequate philosophers so that political power and philosophy become
throughly blended together, while the numerous natures that now pursue either one exclusively are
compelled not to do so, cities will have no rest from evils..nor..the human race. (Republic, 425)
Additionally, Socrates provides the Allegory of the Cave, an allegory that represents that philosophers
struggle to convince the average person of the true forms. Plato believes that the average population is
to ignorant to govern themselves. Which bring Plato to the argument that people have to be pre
destined to be apart of this ruling class, and not anyone can just become a philosopher king; stating

Mccormick Tribune Campus Center Case Study
The McCormick Tribune Campus Center has two primary components, the one story building that has
multiple different activities for students and guests, and the long stainless steel tube that is placed
directly above the roof of the building. The function of the steel tube is that it is designed to greatly
muffle the noise and vibration generated by the passing commuter trains. According to IIT, the tube
muffles the train noise noise from an average 120 dB to about 70 80 dB outside the building, about 70
dB inside the building. Sound waves are caused by disturbances in the air. These disturbances are
usually caused by a vibrating object. In the case of the MTCC, the CTA train railroad is right above

The Skeletal System (Include Joints, Types classification and ROM)
INTRODUCTION Human beings have an endoskeleton which means the structure or skeleton is
inside us and we grow around it as it accommodates growth.
Comprised of;
Bones (206)
Joints / Articulation
Connective Tissue
See Skeleton labelling Diagram attached
FUNCTIONS OF THE SKELETAL SYSTEM
Supports soft tissue and is the framework of the entire body (scaffolding)
It provides the attachment points for muscle and ligaments
Protects delicate vital organs such as the brain, heart, lungs, and spinal cord.
They are the levers for the movement created by muscles that are attached to them
They store minerals such as calcium phosphorus which they release to the body as needed
They store lipids in the bone marrow which is used as energy
They produce Blood Cells in the red marrow
Bone Structure
Bones are not only thick and hard, they are also slightly elastic. Without elasticity they would break
too easily. They are composed mainly of bone tissue or osseous tissue. The skeletal system is very
dynamic as the bones are changing all the time, they remodel themselves depending on usage or
functional demand therefore the structure and function of the skeletal system are

Globalization And Globalization
With the changes in the global economy, pegged with the advancement of technology, companies in
the United States must reconsider their strategies to compete with international counterparts. It was
only 50 years ago, a company in anywhere town, America could carve out space in a market for
themselves and do well without a competitor in sight. Things have changed now and not is the threat
of a Wal Mart moving into your neighborhood a fear of the small to medium sized company,
international companies have also set their eyes on the United States. With as the leading consumer
market with a 28% of the world s consumer market, nearly four times larger than distant second
China, there is no wonder why any other country would want to penetrate the most lucrative market
on the planet. This is owed to the growth of globalization and the expansion of technology into
instruments beyond research, entertainment, and communication, and into the world of digital and
cryptographic currency. What the global economy is beginning to realize is: there are still untapped
markets where profits could be astronomical. Many developing countries are beginning to adopt
practices and methods of developed countries on a smaller scale, with the help of technology. As the
prevalence of new markets and a new form of currency grows, there is no doubt larger companies will
be able to seize the opportunity to make in these markets. One should consider the following
fragments and their stems that support

  • 2. Angela Vicario Essay Márquez uses the character of Angela Vicario to show the power women can possess over the men in their lives. Angela Vicario is arguably the most powerful character in the novel, as she is the one who tells her brothers that it was Santiago who took her virginity, which consequently sets the entire plot of the story in motion. After Angela is returned by Bayardo San Román to her family due to the fact that she is not a virgin, when her brothers ask who it was who took her virginity, Angela nailed [Santiago s name] to the wall with her well aimed dart, like a butterfly with no will whose sentence has always been written (Márquez 47). The way in which Angela searches for Santiago s name shows that it may not have been Santiago who had taken ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Santiago is also referred to as a butterfly, a very fragile creature, with no will or say in what happens to it. This insinuates that even if he was to try, Santiago Nasar would never be able to free himself from the fate Angela s words set for him. This goes directly against the social norms of the time, in which Santiago, the wealthy man, should be able to control Angela, the poor woman. Angela s statement that it was Santiago who took her virginity also exercises a certain control over her brothers. In the trial, Pablo and Pedro declared that they would have done it again a thousand times over for the same reason (Márquez 48). Even though they did have their own free will in committing the murders, Pablo and Pedro did not question their decision to murder Santiago in defense of Angela s honor. By making the accusation, Angela is controlling her brothers as well, as it is clear that they will end up doing something to protect their sister s purity. Whether Angela intentionally wanted Santiago to end up dead or not, it is still clear that at this point in the novel, she is exercising a control over Santiago, Pablo, and ... • 3. Titus Andronicus By William Shakespeare The play Titus Andronicus by William Shakespeare depicts the Roman Empire from a very traditional perspective within each of the characters. Shakespeare creates a visual of historical Rome that includes many blood battles, deception, courage and loyalty not just to Rome and her people, but to one s family. By doing this, Shakespeare shows the reader that Rome was a great city of power that revolved around the idea that justice must be of an equivalent manner suitable to the crime committed by the other party. The word Rome , both historically and in modern times, is often defined as being the perfect model for an advanced civilization, and many looked upon Rome and Romans as being examples of excellence for architecture and political advances within a society . ( Rome , OED Online). The word Rome is seen frequently throughout the play and is used by almost all of the characters. It is a word that describes what Roman civilization entails and how the city of Rome can be a very dark and cruel city. The Roman characters in particular describe the two main concepts of Rome and Roman by means of traditional birth right and traditional forms of justice. Both meanings are seen frequently amongst each Roman character. By fully understanding why particular events in the play occur and being able to see the traditional aspects of the word Rome among each character, it aids the reader in understanding how the play revolves around the historical context of Roman values of ... Little Rascals Day Care Research Paper In the spring of 1990 in Edenton North Carolina seven people including the owners and the staff members of the Little Rascals Day Care Center had been arrested and charged with sexually abuse. The mother Audrey Stever, who was concerned about her 3 year old Kyle reported the details of the abuse to authority. Seven staff members that worked in the Little Rascals day care were innocently accused of sexually abusing the majority of the children that attended the Little Rascals day care. This is a witch hunt because the co workers were blamed. Put to jail, and judged for a crime they never committed. During the opening trial of the little rascals day care therapists and medical doctors had identified dozens of McMartin childrens as sexual abuse. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Summary Of Abraham Lincoln sFraming Sustainability By... In Framing Sustainability by David W. Orr took a historical known leader, Abraham Lincoln used him to show how he thinks sustainability should be approached. Lincoln had to deal with a very controversial topic as president, which was slavery, some people approved of it and others did not. Like sustainability some people believe that is not important while others do. David felt like in some sense both topics are controversial and have supporters and opposers that maybe if we approached the topic of sustainability gently Like Lincoln did with slavery that more people would be open minded and take into consideration that sustainability is truly important. Taking Lincolns approach and reaching out to all people and not limiting the discussion ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Think about it, if something is constantly being told to a person it will stick with them, if there was more awareness on sustainability like big campaigns like you on Tabaco on tv more people would pay more attention. Also, not only having a clear message and attention of people but having a diverse audience is a very big key too. Having a diverse audience is always necessary; being able to have all people being able to relate the topic of discussion. To have a diverse audience one must have some relatable factors and or make sure they use language that is common and is not too vague. In the text Lincoln built his case from sources familiar to his audience the Declaration of Independence, the constitution, and bible Lincoln referenced historical documents the Declaration of Independence granted the thirteen colonies freedom from Great Britain and the Constitution sets up the government and creates the three branches of government along with checks and balances. Then the bible is a religious book that Christians refer to and Christian was a popular religion the United States at the time and especially in the south considering that south was known as the Bible Belt so using the bible as a common factor to get people s attention was a wise move but Lincoln did not make them the focus point. • 6. Vertigo Case Studies This literature review will assess the value of magnetic resonance (MR) and computed tomography (CT) in detecting pathologies associated with vertigo. The common two types of vertigo peripheral and central vertigo are defined. Previous studies suggest that both MR and CT are good options for detecting semicircular dehiscence syndrome related peripheral vertigo. Although the accuracy rates of MR and CT are comparable in detecting acute intracranial hemorrhage, MR has an overall higher diagnostic yield for stroke and multiple sclerosis related central vertigo. In clinical practice, hospitals take cost into consideration when making patients care plan. Having every patient go through imaging examination can be time consuming and expensive. Peripheral ... Table 1 summarizes the statistics of these data (Chalela et al., 2007). In comparison with the final clinical diagnosis, MRI had a higher sensitivity of 83% and a specificity of 97% for diagnosis of acute stroke, compared with 26% and 98% respectively for CT. For acute intracranial hemorrhage, MRI had a sensitivity of 81% and a specificity of 100%, compared with 89% and 100% respectively for CT. For acute ischemia, MRI had a sensitivity of 83% and a specificity of 96%, compared with 16% and 98% respectively for CT (Chalela et al., 2007). Chalela s findings are consistent with previous literature. In Viirre and Nelson s study, they have also found that CT and MRI have similar sensitivity for detecting hemorrhage. In addition, they have also found that MRI has superior sensitivity of 83% compared to 26% for CT when detecting ischemia (Nelson and Viirre, 2009). MR and CT in Identifying Multiple ... Over 9 million people died. The war began on July 28, 1914 and lasted until November 11, 1918. The main cause of such a large scale war was alliances. There were reasons such as militarism and the assassination of Archduke Ferdinand. One underlying cause of World War one was the assassination of Archduke Ferdinand. This assassination sparked World War one. On June 28, 1914 a member of a terrorist group named The Black Hand assassinated him when his driver took a wrong turn in Sarajevo, Bosnia. Archduke Ferdinand was the heir to the Austro Hungarian throne. His assassination outraged the country, which led them to declare war on Serbia. Once war was declared on Serbia, Russia came to their side, which created an alliance. Another underlying cause of World War one was militarism. • 9. Narrative by Judith Ortiz Cofer Essay The narrative written by Judith Ortiz Cofer discusses some of the many experiences she has encountered throughout her life dealing with stereotypes and common misconceptions of Latin American women. To further engage her audience in the story, she provides detailed past experiences that have stood out to her the most. In order for the readers to fully understand those past encounters, some of which are cultural and common among Latinos, Cofer explains them in careful detail. For example, Cofer explains the concept of piropos which are poems composed on the spot by men to women as a form of admiration. This helps her introduce the audience to her own experiences with piropos and how she has dealt with them throughout her life. One of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... She knew how to dress for specific occasions such as a Sunday mass or a party, but this was a challenge. This shows the audience that Latin girls dress the way they do because of their cultural background and something that is considered acceptable in Latin America can differ from what is acceptable in North America. Cofer goes on to discuss how the way Latin women dress can be misinterpreted as a come on to men when in fact, that usually isn t the case because dressing that way is normal and even encouraged by Latin mothers. The point Cofer was trying to display in her narrative was that the outward appearance of Latin women should not be mistaken with who they are but rather be considered as part of their culture. This narrative describes a cultural clash between America s mainstream views and opinions and Latin women who have to struggle with these stereotypes from a young age. Career Day is one of the examples in which Cofer experienced falling under one of those stereotypes and feeling like an outcast when the nuns at her school displayed the Latin girls as the negative models of Career Day. Cofer s strong opinions against these stereotypes is made clear throughout the story as she explains random instances she remembers of how others view Latin girls and how the media often objectifies women comparing them to Hot Tamales and other offensive ... • 11. Female Convicts As A Subject Of Historical Discussion There has been a lack of interest in female convicts as a subject of historical discussion. The history of female convicts has traditionally been incorporated into the framework of male convicts with grave reference to the male convict experience. The convict women who were transported to Australia on ships Elizabeth 5th and Henry Wellesley in 1836 faced extreme difficulty in achieving freedom and reputability. It is the view of many historians that women were incorporated into a pattern initially designed to accommodate men . This essay will investigate the origins and characteristics of a sample of 10 female convicts arriving to Sydney in1836. The essay aims to establish an alternative impression of the female convicts that were deemed damned whores, skill less and prostitutes. In agreement with the 4 of the 5 studied historians, I hold the view that the women were the victims of a repressive patriarchal society and the appellation of female convicts as damned whores is totally inadequate. I believe they were not members of a professional criminal class; they were humans with basic human needs, doing anything they could to survive. The female convicts exported to Australia have been the subjects of investigation since transportation commenced. Many historians set out to determine whether the female convicts were vicious criminals or innocent victims . He s frantically working on an essay that he has already spent days writing. He needs to finish this English essay so he can move on to work regarding the speech outline that is due later in the evening. The stress is an atrocious beast everyone with a degree has had to battle. Stress is commonplace among college students, especially ones fresh out of high school due to the newly found freedoms they enjoy conflicting with the colossal amount of responsibility gained at the same rate. How does all of this stress affect the process of learning? First, it must be understood that learning is a biological process within the brain. • 13. Essay about Jane Addams An American pragmatist and feminist, Hull House founder Jane Addams (1860 1935) came of age in time of increasing tensions and division between segments of the American society, a division that was reflected in debates about educational reform. In the midst of this diversity, Addams saw the profoundly interdependent nature of all social and political interaction, and she aligned her efforts to support, emphasize and increase this interdependence. Education was one of the ways she relied on to overcome class disparity, as well as to increase interaction between classes. Her theories about the interdependent nature of living in a democracy provided a backdrop for her educational theory. Education, she thought, needed to produce people who ... In the same tone, she believed that the working class and capitalists were not warring classes, but part of the same democratic society. The character of American unions was predicted by Addams to be limited and disappointing. She supported the workers goals of a shorter workday, increased wages, better industrial and general education, and worker protection in the marketplace, but qualified her support when she wrote that the movement does not want to lose sight of the end in securing the means, nor assume success, nor even necessarily the beginnings of success, when these first aim are attained (Addams 62). Addams saw the definition of society as warring classes as one that damned society as a whole. The literal notion of brotherhood demanded a beginning of universal kinship: before this larger vision of life there can be no perception of sides and battle array (Addams 64). Labor unions became, in fact, the tools of capitalists by reducing their talks to single industry issues. Addams clearly did not support the Marxist vision of labor, although she frequently read writers adopting this perspective. Non-Ruminant Animal Digestive System Differences Non Ruminant and Ruminant Animals Digestive System Differences Non Ruminant Non ruminant animals are just like humans, they digest their food just the once if they are able to digest it and it is good food and the one stomach works on it. The non ruminant digestive system works so that our stomach churns the food so it is into tiny little pieces, and makes sure that the food we eat is fully digested and the stomach muscles contract in order to churn food. The small intestine then absorbs and digests 90% of the food we eat and then absorbs minerals and nutrients, the large intestine then absorbs water from the remaining indigested food and transports waste material from our bodies, the rectum then temporarily stores our faeces until it is full and then faeces excrete from our anuses. The project has an initial outlay of GBP12 million to renovate and rationalise the polypropylene production line at Merseyside plant. This is done in order to make up for deferred maintenance and exploit opportunities to achieve increased efficiency. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Transport Division would have to pay nothing if it was included in the initial outlay of the Merseyside Project, yet the Transport Division would gain the benefits from the project with extra throughput 2 years early at no cost to them, except increased maintenance of their trucks. We do acknowledge that this is a big assumption to make saying that the Merseyside project should not take on any transport costs. Therefore we put in the clause that if taking on the Merseyside project decreases the NPV of their project we can come to some sort of agreement over the percentage of costs each division should take for the purchase of the new tank cars. There is also an agency problem here with the executive VP of Transport Division and Intermediate Chemicals Group who receive an annual incentive bonus pegged to the performance of their division. Hence both executive VP s would want to reduce costs as much as possible and try off load any cost they can to another division. Concerns of the ICG Sales and Marketing Department The director of sales raised the issue that the company wouldn t be able to sell the extra output that the project would produce. Instead of selling more units in total the Liverpool plant would just cannibalize Rotterdam s sales. Therefore the company would not be able to take full advantage of the efficiencies of the new project. We disagree with the directors belief that the new sales will all be ... This machine was so simple that it had no moving parts. It also used up lots and lots of coal just to pump a small quantity of water. (Phil Shapiro) Nevertheless, Thomas Savery became the first man to produce a workable apparatus for raising water. In detail, Savery s apparatus was able to draw water up by suction to a height of approximately twenty six to twenty eight feet. The water was able to reach this height due to atmospheric pressure and the condensation of steam within the closed vessel. Savery was the first to make the necessary connection between steam power and atmospheric pressure. Without adding in atmospheric pressure, steam power may have never been harnessed. (Robert H. Thurston) Savery became the first to put the method of raising water by fire to use for draining mines. To say it was a steam engine that would be to stretch the world engine far beyond its current meaning. However, it would be fair to say that Savery was the first person to find a practical way of using steam to perform useful work. The next milestone in the history of the steam engine was a result of the work of Thomas Newcomen, who was not quickly recognized for his achievements or contributions to the steam engine. His engine was introduced in 1712 and was basically a combination of the boiler used in Savery s engine with a cylinder and pump. The Newcomen model was unlike other engines up to this time. Reflection On Civic Mirror Civic Mirror Final Reflection Assignment 1) After playing Civic Mirror for three years, I learned lessons that I never would have imagined of learning in grade 10 civics. The most important thing I discovered was the significance of participating and posessing initiative in order to be a successful member of society. During the first year, I did not make many trades as I had little money, was too nervous to raise my concerns in Town Hall and did not find it important to sue anyone in National Court. Along with preventing me from obtaining a high score, not participating restricted me from enjoying myself in Civic Mirror like others did. However, once I increased my participation and took the initiative to trade, I found that my grade in Civic Mirror increased, I looked forward to come to class and I spoke with people whom I had never talked to before. Secondly, Civic Mirror helped me realize the necessity of having a source of income in order to be a prosperous citizen. During the auction, I did not buy a hex as I had very little money and could not afford it. Although the money I had originally been given sufficed me for the first year, the lack of money made it very difficult to fulfill my family s needs for the next two years. Also there could be like if you got a girl pregnant and you were really young so you had to start working at a really young and had to quit school, so then you wouldn t have as much education under your belt. Then that means that you will be stuck working a job that you don t like and you can t get a better if have someone that you love kills you. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
