Trees can be used to make over 5000 different products that are commonly found in homes. Some obvious tree products include lumber, which makes up the structure of homes, and holds up the walls, roof, and floor. Less obvious products include turpentine and chemicals used in items like toothpaste and vanilla flavoring. Other common forest products used in homes are poles that hold up power and phone lines; plywood and oriented strand board used for subflooring and walls; particle board and fiber board used in furniture and cabinets; and paper used in various forms like facial tissues and shopping bags.
