Classical Conditioning Essay
1. Describe the basic process of classical conditioning, using an original example. Be sure to identify
the UCS, UCR, CS, and CR. 125 150 words; 15 points
We know that classical conditioning is when how our behaviors are affected when you have a
stimulus. Even though Pavlov used a dog in order to explain classical conditioning and example I am
going to use is my dog when I open a can. UCS is also known as an unconditioned stimulus which is
when my dog would smell the food. UCR which is known as the unconditioned response is when my
dog knows he needs to eat because he needs to eat to live. CS is known as the conditioned stimulus is
when my dog hears me open his can of dog food in order to put food in his bowl. This is sort of like
the bell in Pavlov s study but the opening of the can. The CR which is the conditioned response is that

He believed that an individual can have multiple intelligences which can help individuals solve
problems, created things as well as deal with cultures to name a few. He believed that these multiple
intelligences came forth when needed and each were separate than each other. He described eight
different intelligences regarding certain situations. Now Sternberg came up with triarchic theory
which counteracts Gardner s theory by stating that some of the eight intelligences are actually talents
instead. Sternberg came up with three forms which deal with mental processes of learning, creativity
as well as practicality. He calls these three types of intelligences the successful intelligences . There
are multiple ways in order to describe intelligences and how you perceive them.

Construction Of Masculinity
The theme of the construction of masculinity is seen in different ways in the Amongst Women, in
Quiet Man and in the Guests of the Nation by Frank O Connor. In each case, the issue of masculinity
is explored from different aspects, such as through the relationship between father and son, the
intimate relationship between men and women and through the comradeship. To start with, Amongst
Women, the theme of masculinity is reflected by the father of the family Moran and his children, and
especially with his son, Luke, and Michael. In Quiet Man, the matter of masculinity is established
through the relationship between men and women and especially in the film by the marriage of
Thornton and his wife Mary Kate but also through the public and the

My Career As An Educator
More than ten years ago, I began my career as an educator in Queen Anne s County, Maryland; a
suburban area of limited cultural or ethnical diversity. A few years later I, transitioned to Anne
Arundel County, Maryland where I worked at a Title I school in Annapolis, this school was an urban
suburban school with more cultural, ethnical, and social economical diversity. Currently, I work in
Prince George s County, Maryland, at an urban school located in Hyattsville, with a large amount of
cultural and ethnical diversity. Each school was different in so many ways, I found it easy to adapt to
the different population with a similar level of enthusiasm, never losing sight of my reason for being
an educator, to educate young people to become productive, successful, contributing members of a
global society.
This easy of adoption to different school climates may be attributed to my natural leadership quality as
an Adaptive Aggressive (AA); one who aggressively pursue a goal, according to the Null s Natural
Life Energy Theory. As a natural adaptive aggressive, I am an asset to any organization, able to
contribute characteristics such as; resourcefulness, social awareness, self assuredness, success oriented
abilities, and my virtue of enthusiasm. These qualities are evident daily within my organization from
facilitating professional development, planning lessons with teachers, conducting model lessons, and
collaborating with members from various departments within the county

Xx s Case Study
XX was born a full term gestation weighing 5 lbs, 8 oz at birth. XX was described as a difficult infant;
she had frequent ear infections, sleep difficulties, and was difficult to soothe. She met her language
and early motor milestones within a typical time frame, though she never progressed to running (due
to her MAS diagnosis). XX is a good eater but presents with sleep difficulties and her parents note that
she frequently wakes up crying during the night. There are no concerns about XX s vision or hearing;
both have been tested and are reportedly in the normal range. Though XX s parents noted that the
school has reported that XX appears to have some difficulty hearing in the context of background

Essay on The Negative Consequences of Pornography
It s a multi billion dollar industry, it easily accessible by adults and adolescents, its addiction rate is
very high. Its not video games or cigarettes it s Pornography. Pornography is tearing the fabric of
society in half and the demand for it is higher than ever. Some people think pornography is just the
simple viewing of scantily clad women but it is more than that. The psychological and mental state it
puts people in is the worst. Some people think that there isn t a problem with it but it takes a toll when
you don t notice the effects it is having on your character. With the introduction of the computer
and/or internet, the distribution and viewing of these images is easier than ever. The time has come to

Today s standard is to somehow sexualize maturing girls at a young age so that they have more of a
passion for putting themselves out there. Also part of the problem would be the parents. The parents
are supposed to keep the children in check. If the parents dress as promiscuous as the children then it
is not helping the problem. The media also plays a huge role. Current fashion trends and celebrities
play into the hand that is pornography.
Some current statistics are pornographic websites make up for 12% of all websites, that s 4.2 million.
90% of 8 16 year olds have viewed porn online, most while doing homework. Over 40 million adults
access porn everyday. It s easy to see with these statistics no one is safe from the hypnotic trance that
is pornography.
It s normal for a man or a woman to lust after the opposite sex but with pornography it becomes
unhealthy. This is so because it s all you want to watch, other people having intercourse with other
people. Adults and/or kids escape to this world because they themselves can t have a normal, healthy
relationship with someone. It s easy to stumble upon the material with the internet around but its
accessibility to kids it s an easily controlling addiction.
What makes pornography so bad is not just the addiction but the actions performed. It is the sexual
submissive, degradation of women through pictures and/or words. When women called themselves
names like slut or whore it a problem.

Persuasive Essay On Owning A House
In this day and age, we are advancing and changing the traditional routines past generation set for us.
Today millennials are trying different turns in the workforce, not starting at the bottom to the top.
Because of this empowerment, some get the dream job they work so hard for all the while being in
school. With this some say they feel entitled; some say they know their worth. Also, the internet has
created a new way for a side hustle, selling things on the internet, making money off YouTube videos,
providing driving services, and even creating apps. So why wouldn t millennials want to own a house,
knowing they have income coming in? Could it be they saw their parents face the recession? Could it
be they haven t found their purpose in life? Or could the burden of college debt stop them from
purchasing? Maybe they re waiting until they meet that special someone or possibly owning a home is
overrated? All these factors may be the reasons there is a decline in real estate ownership. Therefore, if
millennials want to invest in a home, they need to look into the reason why they re buying the house.
See the pros and cons of being a first time buyer and be a pessimist, not an optimist. Buying a home is
a stressful shopping experience, but could be the best experience if they have the right people in their
corner and they re ready for this big step. Right people as in a realtor that is honest and looks out for
them and also family members or a friend who can rationalize

The Importance Of Pearl In The Puritan Society
For about as long as organized religion has existed, faith has been passed down from parent to child.
The children are willed by their parents to follow a set religion and adhere completely to its values,
beliefs and rules. The Puritan time in America was no different. In fact it was likely the era in which
religion and adherence to it was taken the most seriously. The Puritans worship of religion was a
dictating factor when it came to laws, customs, and societal actions. In the novel The Scarlet Letter by
Nathaniel Hawthorne, the portrayal and treatment of Hester s daughter, Pearl, in the Puritan society
develops the theme that religion is an oppressive system of beliefs that dictates the actions and
thoughts of its followers.
Ever since her birth, Pearl s behavior has been a bit off relative to the normal Puritan standard. A
typical Puritan child would not play as a present day child would. They would mature quickly to help
with various chores and other duties that had to be done. Pearl, however, was different. She was
described on multiple occasions as being wild as she truly explored her freedom, and let her
imagination work freely. This is prevalent where Hawthorne writes about Pearl that, At home, within
and around her mother s cottage, Pearl wanted not a wide and various circle of acquaintance. The spell
of life went forth from her ever creative spirit, and communicated itself to a thousand objects, as a
torch kindles a flame wherever it may be applied.

Operant Learning Punishment
Operant learning was created and researched by Edward Thorndike and B.F. Skinner in the early to
middle 1900s. Operant learning is a type of learning that is controlled by
consequences(reinforcement). These consequences can include a punishment or even a reward that
reinforces a behavior. When a reinforcement is provided it is proven that a behavior will increase. In
operant learning, there are four different types of consequences: positive punishment, negative
punishment, positive reinforcement, and negative reinforcement. A positive or negative punishment
will always decrease an unwanted behavior. The only difference between the two is in positive
punishment something is added, and in negative punishment something unpleasant is removed. An
example of positive punishment would be spanking a child, and an example of negative punishment
would be losing money to a swear jar. The last two forms of consequences are positive and negative
reinforcement. Reinforcement always increases the desired behavior. In positive reinforcement,
something pleasant is added and in negative reinforcement something unpleasant is taken away. An
example of positive reinforcement would be a teacher complimenting students after a correct answer,
and an example of negative reinforcement would be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If the behavior is not decreased then the consequence was not a punishment. Positive and negative
reinforcement will always increase a behavior. If the reinforcement does not elicit an increase in the
desired behavior it is not a reinforcement. In order to make punishment and reinforcement most effect
I must punish/reinforce immediately following the behavior and I must create a schedule for
punishment/reinforcement and remain consistent. Immediate response combined with a consistent
schedule should have the students whipped into shape in no time. Operant learning can be very

Growth Strategies, Innovation, Alliances, and Execution
Capella University
Introduction
Thompson Strickland (2013) believes that a successful organization s strategy depends on people,
capabilities, structure, and execution. Important as well are growth and innovation (P.. 286), which
allows an organization to remain competitive.
Growth strategies arise from an organization s SWOT where clear guidelines identify areas of focus.
Achieving this requires innovation and alliances on products and services that will create a
competitive advantage. Successfully execution requires a strategic manager who can effectively and
successfully drive strategic objectives, then report its performance to the leadership team (Thompson

Pfizer s SWOT Analysis (Pfizer, 2013) Innovation theory define when new or existing, large or small
companies, individuals or groups identify, create and market new or existing products or services to
consumers ultimately disrupting an existing business or create value. Some ideas are born out of a
need that ultimately satisfies consumers and some are the next steps that dominate the market. Pfizer
innovative strategies provide new products such as Lipitor, Viagra, and Celebrex. When two or more
organizations create a formal agreement to work together for a specific purpose, they form an alliance.
Alliances offer organizations competitiveness in new business industries and shared responsibility in
experience and cost. Execution of a strategy allows an organization to identify a strategic manager or
management team who will be responsible for five key components: people, resources, structure,
systems and culture. The role of the strategic manager or management team is to implement and
monitor performance and report to company stakeholders on the status. Because strategy drives an
organization s success, the team should select managers who can aggressively drive the objectives to
achieve desired results through three actions:
1. Monitor the progress and performance of the strategic objectives by applying the

The World s Wife By. Duffy
As suggested by the title of the anthology, Duffy s poems within The World s Wife place the focus on
women in an inherently patriarchal and male dominated world. This is also true of Mrs Beast , in
which Duffy reimagines the traditional fairy tale of The Beauty and the Beast to give Mrs Beast
dominance over her husband, as well as financial and emotional independence. The opening lines of
Mrs Beast set the tone for the rest of the poem, linking all of the characters mentioned throughout The
World s Wife , as well as listing many other women with stories that would fit the themes of the
sequence due to their exploitation by men. This acts as a warning to men from Mrs Beast, who sees
these women in herself, commenting: so when you ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This inversion of the traditional roles in a fairytale is also present throughout the rest of the stanza, as
Mrs Beast describes herself as no longer a girl, knowing my own mind, / my own gold stashed in the
bank, / my own black horse at the gates , demonstrating that she is able to take care of herself with no
need for help. Moreover, her financial and emotional independence is highlighted by the anaphora of
my own , with repetition similar to this used by Duffy throughout The World s Wife , particularly in
Little Red Cap . However, the effect of the use of anaphora in Mrs Beast contrasts with its effect in
Little Red Cap at the beginning of the sequence, which describes a girl progressing from innocence
and naivety at childhood s end to saving herself and becoming independent ten years later. Despite
these differences, both poems similarly reimagine fairytales, with Mrs Beast being what Little Red
Cap could grow up to become with her new found independence, as Mrs Beast demonstrates her
ability to take care of herself and be carried off at one wrong word, / one false move, one dirty look .
In juxtaposition with this, the Beast is presented as submissive and similar to a slave rather than as the
traditional handsome and arrogant prince of fairytales. He is treated and described as an animal
instead of a person, falling to his knees at the door for Mrs Beast and kiss(ing) her glove with his
mongrel lips , reflecting his

Pros And Cons Of Online Gambling
Singapore government should allow the two lottery operators to offer online betting
According to Remote Gambling Act (RGA) 2014, online betting is under remote gambling, and
remote gambling means gambling in which a person participates by use of remote communication,
even if the gambling is done only partly by means of remote communication. (Singapore Statutes

Singapore Pools and the Singapore Turf Club had been exempt from the law restriction by the
Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), which means gamblers can legally place bets on Singapore Pools

This system was designed to capitalize on randomization and mobility while providing a modular
build design. The initial design and goal of the project was to develop a product that would increase
the effectiveness and the efficiency of current market technology to reduce damage to crops by
reducing habituation. Secondly, the objective of this project was to develop the prototype and
protocols into a useful system that can be scaled up for application at the end users level of skill.
Considering the target audience of farmers, who may not have a high level of understanding of
electrical and computer components, each component was designed to be easily set up and operated.
The ability of an average person to set up and configure the GPS system and the potential object
recognitions navigation system, which would make the robot fully and accurately autonomous, may be
a barrier. The use of in depth tutorials and visual aids may help some. However this may provide an
opportunity for developing a niche job market for qualified service representatives and field techs.

How Web 2.0 Has Forever Changed Online Communication And...
Web 2.0 has forever changed online communication and communication in general. Reddit has opened
up new ways to communicate and be a part of communities. These communities are now so integral to
our modern culture that they are used for more than just people discussing interests online. Reddit has
given has given content creators, business men, and politicians among others to manage and monitor
community activity. Filmmakers/television executives use these communities to monitor the fan base
of their respective media. They monitor these communities to look at fan feedback, to see what fans
like or dislike about the media they are associated with. This is common in television shows as
television executives need to know what fans are thinking about the show overall or the season
currently airing so they know what to improve on or what the fans want. An example of this is a
television executive for the television show Arrow . The executive Marc Guggenheim has an active
Tumblr and Reddit account and responds to comments on sub reddits and hosts AMA s (ask me
anything) to actively engage with the Arrow community. This helps keep entertainment media alive
and for shows in particular it helps keep fanbases active with weekly releases of shows. Shows such as

Essay On The Movie Stagecoach
Stagecoach Film Review
I find the film Stagecoach to be a top level film of its time and a leading Western to this day, which
came to set a new standard for Western films. Stagecoach didn t stick to the norm of the time, where
Western movies were considered low grade and appealed to young boys, it exceeded people s
expectations. As Film theorist Andre Bazin wrote of Stagecoach , it is the ideal example of the
maturity of a style brought to classic perfection. Many things in Stagecoach were upgraded from
previous films of its genre, from the level that the story delves into the characters journey in the
stagecoach, to the location that it was filmed at. First of all, the story wasn t simply a good guy/bad
guy conflict, it was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the movie you have the three basic camera angles used, which include the low angle or ground level
angle, eye level angle, and the high camera angle. The ground level angle emphasizes the seriousness
and drama of the moment. it is taken from below the character and can make a character or object look
threatening. The eye level angle is simply shot at the same level as a character is more of a normal
shot which has little effect on the viewer. Lastly, theres the high angle camera shot which is shot above
the subject and looks down upon them. It can build suspense, prevent the viewer from seeing details,
and most commonly in this film it is used to make a subject look small or weak. Most of the responses
viewers have from the different camera angles depend on the emotional content and action of a given
scene. They can be used differently in all films, but the different camera angles are commonly used for
an array of expressive purposes, which include conveying information about a character s view of the
world and accompanying emotions. The camera angle can also complicate emotional responses by
playing against our visual responses that we have with the

The Aristotle And Immanuel Kant
The philosophers Aristotle and Immanuel Kant express the sources of virtuous and dutiful actions in a
similar, yet different way. Both philosophers agree that an action has moral worth, when it is
preformed for its own sake. However, the difference contains a more significant meaning. Aristotle
believes that pleasure can be included when preforming an action; while Kant believes that a duty is
preforming the right action without the need of inclinations.
In this paper, I will present a similarity and difference between Aristotle s concept of a virtuous act
and Kant s discussion of dutiful action. In The Nicomachean Ethics, The source of a virtuous action
happens when your passions and thoughts are balanced. It is balanced when there is ... Show more

Furthermore, Aristotle believes when the virtuous person does an action only through the sake of it
self there is no other means to the end and one will eventually become virtuous. However, when the
action is preformed for the sake of something else, then a person will not reach the highest form of
virtue. The reason for this is when the action that is preformed for the sake of something else, then it
will not reach complete happiness because it will always desire more.
Therefore, happiness is the highest act of virtue because it is the only end in every action we preform.
A person that preforms an action for the sake of being happy requires many steps to eventually reach
the stage of happiness. When there are steps involved to reach happiness, then the action is preformed
for the sake of something else and not in itself. Such as a person who wants to eat healthier because
their end motive is to be happy. Therefore, the action is not preformed for the sake of just to eat
healthy but to reach happiness. However, to become virtuous, a person will preform actions that make
them virtuous with a firm and unchangeable character. It is a skill that is made through a habit,
Aristotle states, legislators make the citizens good by preforming habits in them (NE, P.23), such as
preforming acts of bravery. But, a brave person needs to find a balance because being too brave will
lead to excess

PLANNING
Investigating the Kinetics of the reaction between Iodide ions and Peroxodisulphate (VI) ions
By the use of an Iodine clock reaction I hope to obtain the length of time taken for Iodine ions (in
potassium iodide) to react fully with Peroxodisulphate ions (in potassium Peroxodisulphate). I will do
three sets of experiments changing first the concentration of iodide ions, then the concentration of
Peroxodisulphate ions and finally the temperature of the solution in which the reaction is taking place.
From these results, I hope to draw conclusions as to the effects of these changes to the environment of
the reaction on the rate and also determine the order of the reaction and the activation enthalpy.

In order to make the reaction clearer, during my experiment I will add starch and a small known
amount of sodium thiosulphate (to act as a queching agent). The thiosulphate ions turn iodine back to
iodine ions:
2S2O32 (aq) + I2(aq) #61664; S4O62 (aq) + 2I (aq)
Which means that no starch iodine colour will appear until all the thiosulphate has been used up. The
amount of time taken for this occur (and the reaction to suddenly turn blue) is the same amount of
time for the reaction to produce the equvilant amount of Iodine.

Impact On Technology
The advancements in technology have significantly altered our daily lives. As generations pass, it is
remarkable how technology has changed drastically as well as our behaviour towards it. On a global
scale, we are collecting many notable achievements through technology, and due to its many benefits,
our exposure to the wide variety of electronics is gradually increasing. In this day and age, we have
utilized technology more than ever before. Using these platforms more frequently has led to both
positive and negative outlooks in our lives. From using technology, we have discovered a myriad of
effective and dismissive situations regarding our lifestyle. For example, we can now conveniently
interact with each other, but at the same time, we also spend too much time being on our technology.
Although technology can disconnect us from our experiences of reality, it can also provide an
abundance of resources to obtain information from, and it unifies us through multiple forms of
mediums. Firstly, technology has detached us from our experiences with our loved ones and our
interests in the moment. By being increasingly submerged in technology, it has created a rift in our
society. Many people, as stated by Alexandra Tendler of The Odyssey Online, are becoming more and
more immersed in a digital network that is webbed into every aspect of our daily lives. In other words,
we are unaware of how much of our daily actions revolve around technology, and how significantly it

The War in Kashmir
Culture can be defined as learned patterns of perception, values, and behaviours, shared by a group of
people, that are dynamic and heterogeneous (Martin Nakayama, pg 32). The purpose of this paper is to
present research on a conflict involving different cultural groups. The paper will integrate library
research as well as focus on two specific aspects of conflict for my research. Those aspects will be; the
history of the relationships between cultural groups and culture conceptions of women. The war in
Kashmir is the cultural conflict I have chosen to research.
Kashmir is located between the nations of India and Pakistan, for which these two nations share
cultural and historical connections. Which neither historical links have helped in contribution to a
solid resolution between these two countries. Like Kashmir, India and Pakistan are home to various
cultural groups such as Muslim, Hindu, Buddhist, Christian and Sikh. However certain cultures over
shadow others; India is dominantly Hindu while Pakistan is dominantly Muslim. While both cultures
are so closely linked there are specific differences such as Muslims, who follow the belief of Islam,
believe in a monotheistic god and a possible judgement day, while Hindu faith is polytheistic and has
views towards reincarnation.
While historically the conflict within Kashmir is one of territory and not cultural, Pakistan has
recently used their religion, primarily the notion of a Jihad, holy war, to justify their

Essay on Internet Addiction Disorder
The World Wide Web is an intriguing information highway. Its beginnings only date back to the 1990
s, but it has quickly become a major staple in our lives. As with anything there is a good and bad side.
Americans and people around the world are becoming more and more reliant on using the internet for
their informational, academic, social, entertainment, organizational, and connectional needs. Along
with all of the good that this has brought a new disorder is arising, internet addiction disorder.
Although internet addiction disorder has not been added as of yet to the DSM hopes by the researchers

Others have defined internet addiction in other words. Oktan (2011) has used certain criteria to
describe internet addiction. He says that it is failure to control, decrease or stop internet use, and
staying logged on longer than expected (Oktan, 2011). Both Yen, Yen, Wu, Huang Ko (2011) and
Chak Leung (2004) give characteristics for internet addiction. Yen, et al, (2011) list the characteristics
as: impaired decision making, impairment of control, tolerance, preoccupation, withdrawal, uses more
than one intends, excessive time and effort devoted to the internet. Chak Leung (2004) list their
characteristics of internet addiction as the following: concealment, risk to education, risk of loss of
job, risk of loss of relationship, and lying to friends, family, the therapist, and others. Weinstein
Lejoyeux (2010) believes there are 4 components to internet addiction and in each component there
are different parts to the component. The four components are excessive use, tolerance, adverse
consequences, and withdrawal. The parts to excessive use entail loss of time and neglect of duties.
Tolerance is when more and more of time and effort are needed for satisfaction and the need for better

Native American And First Nations Gender Identities Essay
One of the difficulties in studying and assessing the effects and causes of changing terminologies and
beliefs regarding Native American and First Nations gender identities is the incredible variety between
both the histories of different tribes and the individual s understanding of personal identity. It is a
frequent and recurring problem in academia surrounding minority groups, whether they be racial,
ethnic, sexual, or gender minorities, that the voices of actual members of the group being studied are
ignored. What they are saying can be sterilized, particularly when the researcher is not a member of
the group. The reality of the emotional and practical reasons for terminology used by these individuals
cannot be understood without direct input from their voices, and as such five different perspectives
regarding identity and terminology taken by Native American individuals are represented here. These
examples are taken from blog posts regarding various topics surrounding these ideas, and the tribes
represented include the Navajo, White Bear Clan, Cree, Metis, and Mi kmaq people. While each of the
five have different relationships to their Native ancestry, all five individuals take a perspective
regarding the use of the term two spirit. While all five take a positive stance on the use of the word,
applying it to themselves, their understanding and emotional attachment to the word varies. For
Navajo individual Jae Burbank, the discovery of being two spirit came after plans

Thomas Aquinas Five Proofs For God s Existence
Thomas Aquinas offered 5 proofs for God s existence (Aquinas Five Ways, 2009). In Aquinas time,
his works were considered very controversial and included some that were condemned as heretical by
the bishop of Paris (Archie, 2006). Since then, Aquinas has come to be regarded as the greatest
theologian and philosopher in the Church s history (Archie, 2006). Further supporting Aquinas proof,
many find Creative Evolution attractive (Lewis, 2014). This gives a person much of the emotional
comfort of believing in God, and none of the less pleasant consequences (Lewis, 2014).
The Aristotelian Background includes the argument for the existence of God from the nature of
efficient cause (Aquinas Five Ways, 2009). Within this argument lies the key premise that Aquinas
idea is that nothing can be the efficient cause of itself or own existence (Aquinas Five Ways, 2009).,
that nothing can be the cause of its own existence, which Aquinas expresses the chain of causes of
things which come into existence cannot be infinite (Aquinas Five Ways, 2009). Therefore, God is the
first cause because nothing can be the cause of its own existence, or be responsible for its own
existence (Archie, 2006). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

two different relationships (Kimmel Gillespie 2007). Lars has many internal strengths, one of which is
how he uses his delusion as a coping mechanism to combat the stressors in his life. Although delusion
is typically seen as a mental illness , it should be viewed as the individual s ability to cope the best

The Joy Luck Club Research Paper
In addition, myths and superstitions can influence the actions and behaviors of others. Exposure to
superstitions and myths can change one s perception, and can therefore cause them to change the way
they behave. In The Joy Luck Club, the mothers use many Chinese myths and superstition to scare
their daughters into behaving, which helps them convey important lessons to younger generations. A
prime example of the effects of superstitions on people is the rice bowl myth. Ying Ying s daughter,
Lena St. Clair, has a habit of not completing her meals. When she does not finish all of her food, her
mother Ying Ying decides to intimidate her into doing so by saying Aii, Lena...your future husband

Many superstitions can have uses in the real world, and can help individuals overcome common
certain adversities. In The Joy Luck Club, Lena St. Clair uses the myth about the rice bowl to her
advantage when she encounters a boy named Arnold, someone who she despises for annoying her. She
uses the unfinished bowls of rice as a conduit to Arnold s disease stricken face, when she ...began to
leave more rice in her bowl. And then I extended my prodigal ways to beyond Chinese food. I did not
finish my creamed corn, broccoli, Rice Krispies, or peanut butter sandwiches (Tan 153). Tan s use
descriptive use of imagery illustrates the extent to which Lena was willing to go to in order to get rid
of Arnold, as she used the unfinished morsels of food to exacerbate Arnold s health. Her method not
only not only demonstrates her ingenuity, but how the myth was useful in real life, demonstrating how
morals conveyed by myths can be used to overcome real life challenges. The article by Progress in
Health Sciences further supports the useful of superstitions and myths in everyday life. The article
describes the correlation between superstition and mental thought processes, saying that People who
are superstitious see a causal relation between their own thoughts or actions and events in the world.
People cannot tolerate uncertainty or believe that they have no control over events; they lead us to
believe that we can influence outcomes [14] (Krajewska). People s ability to make connections with
the real world through myths and superstitions further demonstrates the reality of these stories, as well
as how they could be used to solve problems in the real life. The articles suggests how superstitions
can show people how to match aspects of the real world with their own thoughts, which can make
them see things more clearly in the real world. The Joy Luck Club provides

Billy Elliot Stereotypes
The Graceful Man
Since primitive times, men were been considered the primary providers and protectors for their family
(Hinshaw). This role has diminished through the twentieth and twenty first centuries, but the need to
be macho remains in countless men. Makeup, tights, and ballet shoes are rarely considered masculine.
Therefore, a subsequent stereotype has become prevalent. People erroneously believe all danseurs to
be gay, weak, and feminine. Frequently, male dancers are left to feel inadequate and are discouraged
from their art because their manliness is questioned. However, the 2000 film, Billy Elliot, juxtaposes
the stereotype of male ballet dancers with a titular character who defies all expectations. The man s

Special Cpu Features Of Cpu Overclocking
Special CPU Features CPU overclocking is a very common method of increasing the speed of your
computer. Overclocking is setting your CPU and memory so that it will run faster than the
recommended manufacturer speed. When you overclock your computer, there are some precautions
that you will want to take: 1) Overclocking will cause your computer to run much warmer so it is
required that it has good ventilation. 2) If you notice that your computer is starting to run too hot, you
need to better ventilate the computer, or just dial down the overclocking a little bit until it reaches safe
temperatures. 3) The speed of the CPU and memory should be slowly increased. If the speed is
increased too much then the computer may not start, or it may become unstable and crash. Another
feature that some CPU s have is called Hyper Threading. This is a process in which a single CPU acts
like two separate CPU s. It splits each core in half, so that it can perform multitasking a little bit faster.
A common misconception is that Hyper Threading is the same as just doubling the cores, and this is
not true. The number of cores are doubled, but not the power of the cores. The power of the cores are
split in half. Hyper Threading does not have a substantial influence in the speed of the computer, but it
will help a little when multitasking. If the computer is being used for gaming, then Hyper Threading
will not have an impact in the quality of the game. If the computer is being used for video

games that a respondent may participate in, which may have an impact on their communication skills.
It is important to recognize however, that this particular sample, though a convenience sample, is also
made up of respondents who are part of the gaming community. Thus, this sample has certain
limitations in that the data will compiled from a self selected sample.
Section 3: Key Variables
The main question was to identify whether online collaborative gaming improved communication
skills. Four variables were used to assess whether communication skills could be improved due to
online gaming they are as follows: team communication skills, communication through leadership
skills, autocratic leadership skills, and leadership through democracy skills. The team communication
skills variable which consists of questions on the survey 1 7 which can be found in the Appendix as

Legal Drinking Age
For many of the generations living today, the legal drinking age has always been set at twenty one. In
the 1980 s, it rose from eighteen to twenty one in an attempt to reduce the amount of underage drunk
driving accidents. While the number of traffic fatalities have declined over the past few decades, many
would argue that the law has spawned many new problems as well, such as an increase in alcohol
poisoning deaths and binge drinking.
As previously stated, the primary reason for adjustment to the legal drinking age was to address the
preposterous number of drunk driving accidents. The United States has experienced a decline in all
age groups over the last 25 years and for that, the law has been a success. Although these statistics are

Since 1979, the rate of binge drinking has increased 20 percent in non college women and 40 percent
in women who attend college, and this rate continues to rise. College students that are not of age to
drink legally engage in pre game sessions, where the primary goal is to get drunk before attending a
social event. To obtain this goal, the young adults take multiple shots of hard liquor in rapid
succession (McCardell) in locations that are beyond administrative authority. These unsafe and
unhealthy drinking behaviors lead to many short and long term health effects. Drinking is driven away
from responsible adults who could model moderation for young adults and instead driven into risky
settings, heavily weighted with peer pressure and usually not supervised by any non intoxicated
people. While drunk driving is a problem, a study from the National Institute of Alcoholism and
Alcohol Abuse states that of 5,000 deaths involving alcohol in those under the age of 21, more than 60

that result from binge drinking incidents, which between 1998 and 2005 jumped from 779 to 2290

Five Theories Of Virtue Ethics
Virtue Ethics
All along the history of man, there has been that big question of who or what determines what is
moral. Ethics started to take shape when man began to question his actions and the reasons
surrounding those actions. Am I doing the right thing? How do I know if it is the right? In a bid to
explain the different ways in which individuals view morality, ethical theories evolved. There are five
main theories; Intuitionism, Consequentialism, Deontological theory, Virtue ethics and Natural law.
For the sake of this discussion, I will be focusing on Virtue Ethics. According to Aristotle, a virtue is a
trait of mind and character that helps us achieve a good life . (Routledge, ND) Aristotle, like his
predecessors, Socrates and Plato, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It assumes that it is by being virtuous that one acts morally thereby becoming better members of the
society. This is because one is not prompted merely by duty to the state to do good but by virtues
which makes his good actions innate. For instance, a student reporting a bully to the school not out of
duty to the school but because of her abhorrence for injustice. Aristotle believed that it is by acting in
the right way over and over again that one becomes virtuous. For instance, it is by an individual s
ability to make wise decisions that makes him prudent. If every individual is striving to do what is
considered to be the right thing, the society becomes a better place. Who is a virtuous person? This is
a question we should all ask ourselves. Aristotle identified virtues based on the characters appreciated
by his society that time and studied the ways in which they could be acquired and improved.
Therefore, it right to say that the term virtuous varies from society to society according to different
cultures. For instance, if one is considered virtuous in Ogun state, this does not mean that that same
person will be considered virtuous in Imo state because both cultures differ. This simply means that
virtue ethics is not

DNA Vs. Epigenetic Synthesis
For years, scientists believed DNA, deoxyribonucleic acid, was the end all be all: a mould for our cells
to be created from. Which does not sound far fetched since DNA contains all of the information
needed for replication, differentiation, growth, and development, in addition to the countless cellular
fates, as described in Waddington s landscape. Instead, DNA is a guide for our cells, and Epigenetics
is the tool that coerces them into their final cellular form. The Epigenetics Revolution: How Modern
Biology Is Rewriting Our Understanding of Genetics, Disease, and Inheritance written by Nessa

Governmental Involvement In The War On Drugs
As a person uses drugs, the brain adjusts to excesses of dopamine, subsequently reducing the amounts,
in turn lowering the ability of cells in the reward circuits in response. Consequently this reduces the
high quality in comparison to the initial usage. The effect, known as tolerance, causes users to increase
their dosage to achieve a similar high leading to addiction. Long term use causes a change in chemical
systems, and massive health issues such as birth defects, HIV/AIDS, Hepatitis and other infectious
diseases, cardiovascular effects, respiratory effects, gastrointestinal effects, musculoskeletal effects,
other organ damage, neurological effects, mental health effects, possible amputations due to infected
cites, and death (WebMD). So why would anyone do drugs? Other than coping mechanisms, curiosity,
and peer pressure, governmental involvement may indirectly help stabilize drug trade, leading to more
drug popularity. While genetic and environmental factors such as economic status, etc., interact with
critical development stages concerning addiction, the factors above are a general overview found in
textbook. More concerning however, is governmental involvement. As their presence contributes
largely to addiction, such as the legalization of alchol, nicotine, and prescription drugs, the media,
glorifying usage, and their strategies in the War on Drugs. Legal intoxication are a huge problem as
the drugs are either completely legal or not commonly prohibited, which can

The Case For The Use Of Popular App
The Case for Snapchat The purpose of this document is to provide a combative argument for the
concerns I anticipate you raising concerning the use of popular app Snapchat. Snapchat is culturally
viewed as a social network, along the lines of Facebook and Instagram. However, it is not categorized
under Social Networking in the Apple App Store, but Photo Video. It focuses on individual
communication as opposed to public posting. Since mass social networking holds appeal to many
users, Snapchat added the Stories feature in October 2013. When a user is selecting who views an
image, they can select one or multiple friends, and/or upload to their Story. This allows the photo to be
viewed unlimited times for 24 hours, when it is then made unavailable. The services offered by the

than that: In essence, it switched from being a great designer of computer products into a great
designer of consumer experiences delivered via devices and services. Now music represents 44% of
Apple s revenues, and an even larger share of profits. If Kodak focused on the consumer experience
they provided rather than the actual product the story might have been so

Be sure to identify the UCS, UCR, CS, and CR. 125 150 words; 15 points We know that classical conditioning is when how our behaviors are affected when you have a stimulus. Even though Pavlov used a dog in order to explain classical conditioning and example I am going to use is my dog when I open a can. UCS is also known as an unconditioned stimulus which is when my dog would smell the food. UCR which is known as the unconditioned response is when my dog knows he needs to eat because he needs to eat to live. CS is known as the conditioned stimulus is when my dog hears me open his can of dog food in order to put food in his bowl. This is sort of like the bell in Pavlov s study but the opening of the can. He believed that an individual can have multiple intelligences which can help individuals solve problems, created things as well as deal with cultures to name a few. He believed that these multiple intelligences came forth when needed and each were separate than each other. He described eight different intelligences regarding certain situations. Now Sternberg came up with triarchic theory which counteracts Gardner s theory by stating that some of the eight intelligences are actually talents instead. Sternberg came up with three forms which deal with mental processes of learning, creativity as well as practicality. He calls these three types of intelligences the successful intelligences . There are multiple ways in order to describe intelligences and how you perceive them. 4. Brian was caught robbing a bank. • 4. My Career As An Educator More than ten years ago, I began my career as an educator in Queen Anne s County, Maryland; a suburban area of limited cultural or ethnical diversity. A few years later I, transitioned to Anne Arundel County, Maryland where I worked at a Title I school in Annapolis, this school was an urban suburban school with more cultural, ethnical, and social economical diversity. Currently, I work in Prince George s County, Maryland, at an urban school located in Hyattsville, with a large amount of cultural and ethnical diversity. Each school was different in so many ways, I found it easy to adapt to the different population with a similar level of enthusiasm, never losing sight of my reason for being an educator, to educate young people to become productive, successful, contributing members of a global society. This easy of adoption to different school climates may be attributed to my natural leadership quality as an Adaptive Aggressive (AA); one who aggressively pursue a goal, according to the Null s Natural Life Energy Theory. As a natural adaptive aggressive, I am an asset to any organization, able to contribute characteristics such as; resourcefulness, social awareness, self assuredness, success oriented abilities, and my virtue of enthusiasm. These qualities are evident daily within my organization from facilitating professional development, planning lessons with teachers, conducting model lessons, and collaborating with members from various departments within the county ... Prior to entering the testing room, she engaged with the examiner in the waiting room by showing her a color and shape identification card game. She separated appropriately from her parents and transitioned easily from play to testing. Initially, XX was more reserved and quiet, however as testing progressed she became more open and vocal. Over 40 million adults access porn everyday. It s easy to see with these statistics no one is safe from the hypnotic trance that is pornography. It s normal for a man or a woman to lust after the opposite sex but with pornography it becomes unhealthy. This is so because it s all you want to watch, other people having intercourse with other people. Adults and/or kids escape to this world because they themselves can t have a normal, healthy relationship with someone. • 7. Persuasive Essay On Owning A House In this day and age, we are advancing and changing the traditional routines past generation set for us. Today millennials are trying different turns in the workforce, not starting at the bottom to the top. Because of this empowerment, some get the dream job they work so hard for all the while being in school. With this some say they feel entitled; some say they know their worth. Also, the internet has created a new way for a side hustle, selling things on the internet, making money off YouTube videos, providing driving services, and even creating apps. So why wouldn t millennials want to own a house, knowing they have income coming in? Could it be they saw their parents face the recession? Could it be they haven t found their purpose in life? Or could the burden of college debt stop them from purchasing? Maybe they re waiting until they meet that special someone or possibly owning a home is overrated? All these factors may be the reasons there is a decline in real estate ownership. Therefore, if millennials want to invest in a home, they need to look into the reason why they re buying the house. See the pros and cons of being a first time buyer and be a pessimist, not an optimist. Buying a home is a stressful shopping experience, but could be the best experience if they have the right people in their corner and they re ready for this big step. Right people as in a realtor that is honest and looks out for them and also family members or a friend who can rationalize ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. The Importance Of Pearl In The Puritan Society For about as long as organized religion has existed, faith has been passed down from parent to child. The children are willed by their parents to follow a set religion and adhere completely to its values, beliefs and rules. The Puritan time in America was no different. In fact it was likely the era in which religion and adherence to it was taken the most seriously. The Puritans worship of religion was a dictating factor when it came to laws, customs, and societal actions. In the novel The Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne, the portrayal and treatment of Hester s daughter, Pearl, in the Puritan society develops the theme that religion is an oppressive system of beliefs that dictates the actions and thoughts of its followers. Ever since her birth, Pearl s behavior has been a bit off relative to the normal Puritan standard. A typical Puritan child would not play as a present day child would. They would mature quickly to help with various chores and other duties that had to be done. Pearl, however, was different. She was described on multiple occasions as being wild as she truly explored her freedom, and let her imagination work freely. This is prevalent where Hawthorne writes about Pearl that, At home, within and around her mother s cottage, Pearl wanted not a wide and various circle of acquaintance. The spell of life went forth from her ever creative spirit, and communicated itself to a thousand objects, as a torch kindles a flame wherever it may be applied. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Operant Learning Punishment Operant learning was created and researched by Edward Thorndike and B.F. Skinner in the early to middle 1900s. Operant learning is a type of learning that is controlled by consequences(reinforcement). These consequences can include a punishment or even a reward that reinforces a behavior. When a reinforcement is provided it is proven that a behavior will increase. In operant learning, there are four different types of consequences: positive punishment, negative punishment, positive reinforcement, and negative reinforcement. A positive or negative punishment will always decrease an unwanted behavior. The only difference between the two is in positive punishment something is added, and in negative punishment something unpleasant is removed. An example of positive punishment would be spanking a child, and an example of negative punishment would be losing money to a swear jar. The last two forms of consequences are positive and negative reinforcement. Reinforcement always increases the desired behavior. In positive reinforcement, something pleasant is added and in negative reinforcement something unpleasant is taken away. • 11. The World s Wife By. Duffy As suggested by the title of the anthology, Duffy s poems within The World s Wife place the focus on women in an inherently patriarchal and male dominated world. This is also true of Mrs Beast , in which Duffy reimagines the traditional fairy tale of The Beauty and the Beast to give Mrs Beast dominance over her husband, as well as financial and emotional independence. The opening lines of Mrs Beast set the tone for the rest of the poem, linking all of the characters mentioned throughout The World s Wife , as well as listing many other women with stories that would fit the themes of the sequence due to their exploitation by men. This acts as a warning to men from Mrs Beast, who sees these women in herself, commenting: so when you ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This inversion of the traditional roles in a fairytale is also present throughout the rest of the stanza, as Mrs Beast describes herself as no longer a girl, knowing my own mind, / my own gold stashed in the bank, / my own black horse at the gates , demonstrating that she is able to take care of herself with no need for help. Moreover, her financial and emotional independence is highlighted by the anaphora of my own , with repetition similar to this used by Duffy throughout The World s Wife , particularly in Little Red Cap . However, the effect of the use of anaphora in Mrs Beast contrasts with its effect in Little Red Cap at the beginning of the sequence, which describes a girl progressing from innocence and naivety at childhood s end to saving herself and becoming independent ten years later. Despite these differences, both poems similarly reimagine fairytales, with Mrs Beast being what Little Red Cap could grow up to become with her new found independence, as Mrs Beast demonstrates her ability to take care of herself and be carried off at one wrong word, / one false move, one dirty look . In juxtaposition with this, the Beast is presented as submissive and similar to a slave rather than as the traditional handsome and arrogant prince of fairytales. As Film theorist Andre Bazin wrote of Stagecoach , it is the ideal example of the maturity of a style brought to classic perfection. The eye level angle is simply shot at the same level as a character is more of a normal shot which has little effect on the viewer. Aristotle believes that pleasure can be included when preforming an action; while Kant believes that a duty is preforming the right action without the need of inclinations. Furthermore, Aristotle believes when the virtuous person does an action only through the sake of it self there is no other means to the end and one will eventually become virtuous. However, when the action is preformed for the sake of something else, then a person will not reach the highest form of virtue. The reason for this is when the action that is preformed for the sake of something else, then it will not reach complete happiness because it will always desire more. Therefore, happiness is the highest act of virtue because it is the only end in every action we preform. A person that preforms an action for the sake of being happy requires many steps to eventually reach the stage of happiness. When there are steps involved to reach happiness, then the action is preformed for the sake of something else and not in itself. Such as a person who wants to eat healthier because their end motive is to be happy. Therefore, the action is not preformed for the sake of just to eat healthy but to reach happiness. However, to become virtuous, a person will preform actions that make them virtuous with a firm and unchangeable character. Native American And First Nations Gender Identities Essay One of the difficulties in studying and assessing the effects and causes of changing terminologies and beliefs regarding Native American and First Nations gender identities is the incredible variety between both the histories of different tribes and the individual s understanding of personal identity. In Aquinas time, his works were considered very controversial and included some that were condemned as heretical by the bishop of Paris (Archie, 2006). Since then, Aquinas has come to be regarded as the greatest theologian and philosopher in the Church s history (Archie, 2006). Further supporting Aquinas proof, many find Creative Evolution attractive (Lewis, 2014). This gives a person much of the emotional comfort of believing in God, and none of the less pleasant consequences (Lewis, 2014). The Aristotelian Background includes the argument for the existence of God from the nature of efficient cause (Aquinas Five Ways, 2009). Within this argument lies the key premise that Aquinas idea is that nothing can be the efficient cause of itself or own existence (Aquinas Five Ways, 2009)., that nothing can be the cause of its own existence, which Aquinas expresses the chain of causes of things which come into existence cannot be infinite (Aquinas Five Ways, 2009). Therefore, a subsequent stereotype has become prevalent. People erroneously believe all danseurs to be gay, weak, and feminine. • 33. Special Cpu Features Of Cpu Overclocking Special CPU Features CPU overclocking is a very common method of increasing the speed of your computer. Overclocking is setting your CPU and memory so that it will run faster than the recommended manufacturer speed. When you overclock your computer, there are some precautions that you will want to take: 1) Overclocking will cause your computer to run much warmer so it is required that it has good ventilation. 2) If you notice that your computer is starting to run too hot, you need to better ventilate the computer, or just dial down the overclocking a little bit until it reaches safe temperatures. 3) The speed of the CPU and memory should be slowly increased. If the speed is increased too much then the computer may not start, or it may become unstable and crash. Another feature that some CPU s have is called Hyper Threading. This is a process in which a single CPU acts like two separate CPU s. It splits each core in half, so that it can perform multitasking a little bit faster. A common misconception is that Hyper Threading is the same as just doubling the cores, and this is not true. The number of cores are doubled, but not the power of the cores. The power of the cores are split in half. Hyper Threading does not have a substantial influence in the speed of the computer, but it will help a little when multitasking. Ethics started to take shape when man began to question his actions and the reasons surrounding those actions. Am I doing the right thing? How do I know if it is the right? In a bid to explain the different ways in which individuals view morality, ethical theories evolved. There are five main theories; Intuitionism, Consequentialism, Deontological theory, Virtue ethics and Natural law. For the sake of this discussion, I will be focusing on Virtue Ethics. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It assumes that it is by being virtuous that one acts morally thereby becoming better members of the society. This is because one is not prompted merely by duty to the state to do good but by virtues which makes his good actions innate. For instance, a student reporting a bully to the school not out of duty to the school but because of her abhorrence for injustice. Aristotle believed that it is by acting in the right way over and over again that one becomes virtuous. For instance, it is by an individual s ability to make wise decisions that makes him prudent. If every individual is striving to do what is considered to be the right thing, the society becomes a better place. Who is a virtuous person? This is a question we should all ask ourselves. Aristotle identified virtues based on the characters appreciated by his society that time and studied the ways in which they could be acquired and improved. Therefore, it right to say that the term virtuous varies from society to society according to different cultures. For instance, if one is considered virtuous in Ogun state, this does not mean that that same person will be considered virtuous in Imo state because both cultures differ.
