Child Labor In Congo
The Democratic Republic of Congo has changed a lot due to child labor. The children of Congo work
hours mining gold, cassiterite, and most commonly cobalt as well as use the children as soldiers to
fight in wars. The Democratic Republic of Congo has not done anything to prevent child labor until
very recently. The country s economy has been crashing which is why they used child labor to start
with. About twenty five percent of children between the age of five to fourteen, which is over four
million kids in Congo. Luckily there is at least fifty nine percent of Congos children are going to
school and not working through the ages of five through fourteen. There are children who go to school
and work from the ages of seven to fourteen. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This plan plans to get rid of child labor by 2020. The only problem with this plan is that this plan is
not being paid by congo s government meaning that they are waiting for other countries to help them
get out of child labor. Not a lot of people know about this issue meaning that there needs to be a
spread of awareness. The democratic republic of Congo government started a program to get children
out of these bad situations and to get child labor out of Congo in. The government got support from
Sweden and Japan, the USAID (which advances the U.S. s national security), and the world bank. The
goal of This program was to get about 1,500 or more children out armies. After this program, once a
child was identified in an army in Congo they were removed. After about a year the program was
ended and by the end of it over 2,000 children were put into foster homes. Many new integration
programs were also integrated in

The Effects of Gender Roles and Gender Identity on...
The Effects of Gender Roles and Gender Identity on Behaviour
Gender is a psychological term, which refers to our awareness and reaction to biological sex. It is also
a fundamental part of our learning concept.
Gender is influenced by many things, which include:
Biological Influences =====================
Such as, Genetics, Estrogens and Androgens.
Social Influences =================
Such as,
Identification theory, which is:
1. Sexual attraction to the opposite sex
2. Anxiety about sexual attraction
3. Identification with same sex parent adapting there characteristics

The androgens affect males by controlling the onset of puberty, biological fertility etc and the
estrogens are important to females hormones which control the timing of biological maturity and
menstruation. Girls exposed to higher levels of androgen are defeminized in sex type interests,
abilities and behaviour, but not core gender identity.
Some studies by John Money and his colleagues have been made of girls whose mothers received
excessive amounts of androgens during pregnancy (to reduce the likelihood of miscarriage) .The
babies developed Androgential Syndrome. As they grew they tended to be more aggressive and
tomboyish , and less feminine. They preferred male activities with male company and expressed more
interest in a career than in having a family.
(G.C Davenport, ESSENTIAL PSYCHOLOGY, chapter five, page 116.)
When a child is born their gender role (set of expectations to say how they should think, act, feel.) is
based on their gender identity (sense of being male/female), which is usually based on what sex the
child s genitalia reflects.
When we look at children who have Androgen Insensitivity Syndrome, it is interesting to see that
some individuals develop in a feminine direction and acquire a sense of identity as female but others
are brought up as males. The child s upbringing was based purely on judgements about their genitals,

Speech Pathologist Observation
As an eight year old student, I entered the annual science fair at school. The subject I chose to observe
and research for my project was the human vocal chords. Collectively, my mom, a speech pathologist,
and I sat down and watched videos that she had of her own vocal chords being activated and used for
communication through speech and language. I was intrigued by the way that they worked and the
way they were used to enable communication. My mom taught me about her work as a speech
pathologist and how she had studied the vocal chords specifically to help her with the ability to train
others who had speech and language impairments and communication disabilities. It was through my
research and careful observation of the way that the vocal ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Through speech pathology, people are reached and shown compassion who are typically considered
outcasts in society. SLPs work with individuals who are struggling with various sets of problems and
help to solve those problems through undivided attention and spirits of patience and willingness to aid
people with speech, language, and mental impairments. I believe this would be a good career fit for
me due to my heart for people and my teaching spirit. My mom s perspective of me pursuing a career
as an SLP is that it would be a good fit due to my kind and gentle spirit and conduciveness with
working with struggling individuals. I also have an immediate family legacy of multiple speech
pathologists that work in both the medical and educational fields which increases my knowledge and
familiarity with the career. While I believe that speech pathology would ultimately be a good fit for
me, I tend to struggle with patience, a key component of working as an SLP, which is a challenge that
I would have to work to overcome in order fulfill my role as a speech pathologist. The career of
speech pathology offers many opportunities in a variety of different settings. For those who are willing
to tackle the challenge of advanced education and have a passion for working with others, speech
pathology could be a great career choice. Through my individual research and interaction with other

Kathrine/ Lord
¨Lady Kathrine, we re going to be late. Please, do hurry! Michael shouted from down in the common
room.
My family and I were on our way to the Manor house in Holden of Wissilia, a large town that s packed
with people, animals, shops, houses, and children. Lord Clovis, my dead husband, declared in his will
that My family should live in the manor house of Wissilia, he found it charming Sadly Clovis, and I
only had two children, Gwen, and Leo. They are lovely children, but I barely have time for them.
There s the moving, the cooking, and the caring for other noble families, It s all too much for me too

Clovis would still be alive if he hadn t gone to war. Understandable, he was trying to honor his King,
because as all the lords he promised to fight in the war when the time comes. But there is always war,
especially now that there is a rebellion going on with all the pathetic people. They disgust me.
Mother, w we a are here, Gwen silently whispered, y you fell asleep.
I slowly lifted my head, we were here. Holden of Wissilia. Great name, if you don t know the history. I
strolled toward the front door when I heard a familiar voice calling my name.
Kathrine, The voice bellowed. Katherine, turn around! I turned and saw my dear brother Winstin!
Brother, so glad you have arrived, I politely curtsied. Where is the wife?
Dead. The Black Death fell upon her.
I nodded politely, I am sorry, Brother.
No big deal, I will just find the next lucky women, he gave me a low chuckle. Well, let us go inside.
I didn t quite understand why he was acting like that, as if he had done something to his dear wife; that
wasn t possible he loved her dearly it seemed anyway.
I made my way in the manor house. Oh, how horridly it reeked of waste and rats. I hated this manor so
much, it was the worst of all the manors. Clovis had had an affair with another lady she was down
right a disgrace and this was the manor house she gave birth in. Disgusting.

I gasped, Dominic!

The Importance Of Pressure Ulcer
Previously known as Pressure Ulcer is now being called Pressure Injury (PI), according to the
National Pressure Ulcer Advisory Panel (2016). The name was changed due to the different formation
and presentation of PI. What many appear as intact clear skin may actually be deeply damaged within
the tissues making it invisible to the naked eye. PI is acquired through ischemia the skin on bony
prominences of the body usually from pressure. Pressure to the area within 1 2 hours can cause PI,
thus the importance of repositioning our patients every 2 hours is emphasized nationwide. However,
other contributing factors also play a major role in the formation of PI, the problems of pressure,
shear, friction, immobility worsens the condition and it

The Prisoner Of War Camps
Many citizens of the United States immediately after the Civil War knew very little of the atrocities of
that occurred in the prisoner of war camps. News that their family member was in a prisoner of war
camp was usually dreaded by the family of the captured soldiers. While being dead was much worse
the families never truly knew what was going on inside the camps. For the Confederacy, many feared
Rock Island, but there was a just as deadly camp just north of Rock Island in Chicago. Once the war
had ended the atrocities of what occurred inside the prisoner of war camps became apparent. Suddenly
multiple fingers were pointed at what was the culprit for such deplorable conditions. The pictures,
descriptions, and accounts of what happened inside the prisoner of war camps became a part of not
only history but the media as well. Multiple books were written about the prisoner of war camps,
several works of fiction reference the prisoner of war camps. Andersonville is almost unanimously
regarded as the worst camp for a Union soldier to get sent to. Rock Island seems to be the place that
many agree as the worst camp that a Confederate soldier could get sent to. Rock Island is even
mentioned in several works of fiction, including Gone With The Wind. In Gone With The Wind the
main character Scarlett O Hara s sister in law, Melanie Wilkes received a letter telling her that her
husband Ashley Wilkes had been captured and taken to a horrible place called Rock Island. However,

A Primary Source Of The West Indies By Henry Nelson Coleridge
The document I chose to analyze as a primary source is Six Months in The West Indies by Henry
Nelson Coleridge. This is a small journal published in 1825 that follows Henry N. Coleridge s trips
around the West Indies with his uncle, William Hart Coleridge who is a bishop of Barbados. While on
his trip throughout the isles, Coleridge not only comments on the local governments and ecosystems
but the treatment of slaves and the institution of slavery as well. His viewpoints are in no way
abolitionist, but he does appear to have a vein of sympathy for slaves of the West Indies. Many of his
viewpoints are on how society and slave owners in the West Indies could better the lives of their
slaves, none of them abolition, but for instance he suggests that one of the most effectual ways for
bettering the slaves would be thorough and humanizing education of the masters themselves (p.54).
While this argument, I feel, is not uncommon of a well educated, English, relative of a high ranking
religious official during this time period, I find it interesting to compare Coleridge s accounts of
slavery throughout the West Indies with that of an actual slave, Mary Prince, in the same region. Mary
Prince was a slave in the Caribbean, who was bought and sold to multiple owners, on multiple isles,
eventually gaining her freedom in Britain in 1828. This secondary source, The History of Mary Prince,
was transcribed by Suzanna Strickland and edited by the abolitionist who took her in, Thomas Pringle

Analysis Of Garmin s First True Smartwatch, The Garmin...

Originally priced at $249.99, and now available from Garmin for $219.99, Vivoactive combines the
features of a traditional sports and fitness trackers with the added functionality of a smartwatch

praising the smartwatch for its, incredible set of fitness features with top notch notifications (para. 35).
Leinbach Reyhle (2016) reports that the trend of wearable technology continues to grow, adding that
consumers spent over $2 billion on wearable technology in 2015, with expectations to spend even
more in the years to come. Through a functional analysis of cost based and market based pricing
structures, it becomes apparent that using a market based approach to develop a cost structure for the
Vivoactive has the potential to generate the most profit for Garmin, due to competitive factors, the
inexpensive nature of many components, and the relatively new introduction of the technology.
Market Based Pricing Market based pricing begins with evaluating market trends, competitor
products, and consumer demand, to determine how the customer s willingness to pay the asking price
for the product (Grand Canyon University, 2016). Products in high demand, like trendy, cutting edge
electronics, usually sell for a high price at first, at least until the item becomes more common, at

Stress And Health Problems Facing People Today
Social Stress and Health Kasia Tuturice SOC 240 November 26, 2014 Professor: Dr. Jodi Levinthal
Introduction Stress can make existing problems worse. It is very important to recognize that
interaction between the human mind and body represents a critical factor in regarding to health. Illness
of any kind disrupts routines and interferes with day to day functions, all of which stresses an
individual. Stress affects the mind, body, and behavior in many ways, and everyone experiences stress
differently. Not only can overwhelming stress lead to serious mental and physical health problems, it
can also take a toll on your relationships at home, work, and school. People stress about a lot of things
such as work, finances, our health, relationships, screaming kids, barking dogs, marriage, divorce, and
so on. With so many sources of stress, it is difficult to find time to relax. This is why, in my opinion,
stress is one of the biggest health problems facing people today. There are various stress related topics.
This paper will describe three of them. What is stress and how does our body respond to it? What
causes stress and what are the social factors of stress? How do people react to extreme situations, such
as natural disasters and to ordinary life events like losing their job? People under large amounts of
stress can become tired, sick, and unable to concentrate or think clearly. Sometimes, they even suffer
mental breakdowns. According to Cockerham, Embarrassment

Eye Opening Trip To The Caribbean Essay
The Eye Opening Trip to The Caribbean It was a Sunday morning in the middle of May when our
family was on our way to the Caribbean. With that being said, we had a long 14 hour flight ahead of
us, but the sky was blue and we were all filled up with excitement as to what would come next. I had
never been in the Caribbean before and I did not know what to except. As we sat impatiently waiting
to board our plane, I started writing my diary for the trip. Because we were going to be away for a
good month or even more, I had to write a diary of my experiences and what I learned so that I could
turn it in when I got back to school. As I began writing, I started to brainstorm of what I thought it was
going to be like being in a very different culture with people you had never seen before. As a blond,
young girl, I did not know much about different cultures as I am from a country with very little
diversity. The only thing I knew was that the Caribbean was far, ... Show more content on

Later on, we swam into the Island and met the rest of the family. We sat down in the shadows of a
restaurant and enjoyed a delicious smoothie made by some of the local residents of the Island. After
we had something to eat we strolled down to the beach and that was when it happened, the rare
moment when people came up to us asking if they could touch our hair and skin. Many of them had
never seen white, blond people with blue eyes before. It was a weird experience, but not a bad
experience. They were all so friendly and nice to us and repeatedly said how exotic we looked. Vice

Conflict Between Emperors And Popes
Based on the video lessons, what were the reasons behind the conflicts between the emperors and the
popes during this period: The main reason for strife between the popes and the holy Roman emperors
starts with Fredrick Barbarossa realizing that the French and English Kings were beginning to wield a
lot of power and that there was way too much decentralization going on in his Empire. Fredrick begins
by trying to take the Northern Lombard states in Italy for their wealth. The Lombard states however
are not really fans of being absorbed into the HRE, and the first seed of discord between the Emperor
and Pope is sown when the Pope sides with the Lombard cities. Fredrick begins to support anti papacy
individuals, when he declares that Alexander

This country doesn t help its citizens as much as it thinks it does when it comes to family leave. A fact
from the Los Angeles Times(2014) states that, The federal government deems workers eligible for
unpaid parental leave only if they have been with their employer for at least 12 months, if their
employer has at least 50 employees, and if they worked at least 1,250 hours during that year long

Willis tells her short stories in three tenses. The short story Fiancée. Where Penny goes back and forth.
In the beginning she s with Andrew her fiancée packing to move to Calgary but the in the next
paragraph she s in the future. And it does not stop there, the third paragraph is about recent past. The
stories are all over the place but not in missed up way, instead it flows very well. The downside to it, it
is how most of the stories end. The endings are horrible because there is no explanation for the readers
to understand. In the story Fiancée, Penny is supposed to be back in Montreal to reunites with her
fiancée Andrew. The quote state: She will return to Montreal at the end of the month. Her ticket is
booked and Andrew expects her. (120). It seems like she will go back to her lover but she does not.
Furthermore, Penny argue: I ll probably just keep going west, she says. Get on the train and go all the
way to Vancouver. (120). It is kind of confusing how she s changing her mind. The ending of The
Fiancee story is not understandable because Willis does not give any information how Penny ended
up. On the other hand, the short story This Other Us has an ending which has no clue how the
character Lise ends up. Lise is supposed to come home and see her boyfriend Lawrence waiting for
her but instead she comes to see Lawrence with his ex girlfriend Keren who is also Lise s best friend.
She hopes that Lawrence told Karen everything about him and Lise. Well that did not happened:
Lawrence obviously hadn t told her anything, and that s why she put her arms around me. (95).
actually there is no information where its shows that Lawrence did or did not told Keren about their
relationship. The ending is so bad because the readers are not satisfied how the short story ended. The
last line from the story state: Everything s going to be okay, I thought maybe she

Hitler s Rise Of Power And Get His Fascist Ideas
Why Did Hitler Rise to Power and Get his Fascist Ideas
This essay will talk about the life of the Nazi Party (also known as the National Socialist German
Workers Party), Fascism in Germany, and Adolf Hitler. It will think about what influenced Germany to
vote for the Nazis and whether or not Hitler was brought up with the idea of fascism, or whether he
was mentally scarred from a young age. This essay will also discuss about how did the Nazis do in
their early years in the German elections, and how did a fascist party with such ludicrous ideas
persuade a country as large and as multi religion as Germany?
A multitude of different factors contributed to the rise of Fascism within the period of post World War
1 Germany. As Adolf Hitler was the perpetrator and mastermind behind much of the rise of Fascism in
Germany, factors which contributed to his opinions and ideals must obligatorily be looked at in this
topic. His failed attempted career in art, the death of his mother, his homelessness in Vienna, his time
in prison (in which he wrote Mein Kampf), his time at war at an early age; all of these circumstances
contributed to his Fascist ideals, and therefore to the rise of Fascism and the popularity of the Nazi
Party. Other incidents unrelated directly to Hitler bestowed extremists much power as people were
dissatisfied with the current state of affairs and the republic provided extremists (namely the Nazis,
other right wingers and the Communist Party) with a scapegoat.

American Child Roles
The American children have many different role models that they can choose to listen to and follow.
To name a few, they can look up to their families, their church, and/or their government to name a few.
However, the government has now become very strong in playing its part in children s lives. Over the
years, the United States government has subtly usurped the roles and responsibilities of the American
family and the Christian church by replacing God with science and modern beliefs and forcing
Americans to put their trust and hope in the government. The government has usurped the roles of the
church in many different ways including trust. The American people used to trust their church to help
them with whatever they needed. When they did not have a job, the church would help them get a job.
When they had no food, the church would put together meals for the person. Anything that people
needed, the church would provide. Now, the government helps people find jobs or get food. They
provide welfare for people without a job and food stamps for people without food. The government
also has Medicaid and homeless housing for people who need medical help or housing. Doing these
things, the government has created hope for a better life and trust in what the government can do. The

Kate Kid 1984 Movie Analysis

Both of these movies introduce an underdog, new to his environment. They are harassed by bullies
and taken under the wing by the well mannered, black belted handyman. Both the original Karate Kid,
released in 1984, and the 2010 remake made an impact on our culture, and they both taught us lessons
about judgement, bullying, and stereotyping.
In the 1984 film, our young hero, Daniel LaRusso, moves to New Jersey with his mother. Likewise,
our younger hero from the 2010 remake, Dre Parker, moves from Detroit to Beijing for his mother s
work. Both attend school and seek acceptance from their peers. Additionally, both boys live near their

Third Eye Experiences
The third eye is a very powerful tool of the soul. To see, to feel, and to hear the higher frequency
realities. These 3 functions of the soul are known as the third eye.
By practicing more and more meditation, more energy flows, more energy activates the third eye, it s a
great experience for the meditator. At the time of activation of the third eye, we feel an itching
sensation at the forehead region.
We start seeing glimpses of various colors rotating around us. We hear mumring sounds, sounds of
walking. We feel as if we re travelling in another dimension.
When everybody gets sufficient cosmic energy by more and more meditation, our third eye gets
perfected. After activing our third eye, we perceive crystal clear visions of many things. When we
have perfected our third eye, we see many things clearer than simple visions. We see other frequency
realities, we see the things which are not present in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We see masters who are not there physically with us, we see masters in a physical form.
After more meditation we start seeing the master like a bright light. Even by seeing the bright light we
feel the identity of the master. We can hear the messages from the masters. We feel like moving in a
tunnel and finally merging with the light.
From third eye experiences, we know we can answers for all our problems through messages from the
masters or by seeing other frequency realities or as a feeling. By this our actions will change, our
beliefs will change, our understanding and perception of life will change.

Use of Light and Darkness in Joseph Conrad s Heart of Darkness
Joseph Conrad s Heart of Darkness contrasts light and darkness, to represent the civilized and
uncivilized sides of the world. Conrad uses light to represent the civilized side of humanity while
contrasting the dark with the uncivilized and savage. Throughout the thematic stages of the novel, that
is the Thames river London, the company s office in Belgium, the journey to the heart of darkness and
the conclusion, light and dark is used to represent these sides of humanity, but on a deeper level many
assumptions of darkness and light are challenged, with the appearance of light and dark, and in turn
good and evil contrasting with the reality.
From the initial ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
From the start of the novel, Conrad foreshadows Marlow journey into the heart of darkness through
the use of light and darkness. Marlow s journey to the Belgium company s office, where he encounters
two women knitting black wool. The two women are commonly interpreted of representing two of the
three fates of Ancient Greek mythology who spun, wove and cut thread to represent the birth, lifespan
and death of mortals. This darkness used perhaps foreshadows the evil he will encounter, something
that merely fate may decide. Marlow describes the place as the city that always makes me think of a
whited supulchre , and the city of the dead , thus, white in this instance is used to represent the
exploitation of the company and the true evil, which is hiding behind the façade of light and progress.
Therefore Conrad uses the civilized white to represent the evil of the dead city and the search for the
precious trickle of ivory .
The map in the company s office, and the light and darkness associated with it again demonstrates and
perhaps foreshadows the good and evil, and the civilized and uncivilized side of humanity. . He
describes the map as being marked with all the colors of a rainbow,

Liz Murray Thesis
Reaching the Top
Last year, there were 1,926 homeless students enrolled in public school,.. (Goldberg N.P.). In the
United States, many homeless children skip school and lose hope about improving their life. One of
those children decided to change their life and that person was called Liz Murray. Liz Murray and her
older sister, Lisa, were children of two drug addicts. Her parents, who would neglect her and Lisa,
caused Liz to get head lice and for Liz and Lisa to go days without some proper food. Her parents
spent any penny they had on drugs. They would go as far as stealing birthday money from Liz. Liz
and Lisa s mother was diagnosed as HIV positive. With her mom going in and out of the hospital and

For insistence, according to reporter Susan Donaldson James, Liz Murray is helping youth struggling
with homelessness at New York s Covenant House, a nonprofit that provides shelter and support
services for the city s youth population. ( James N.P.) This demonstrates that Liz is going to a
covenant house in New York and helping the homeless youth build themselves a better life. This
illustrates that Liz Murray is putting the effort to help kids struggling through homelessness. Thus,
according to reporter Susan James, at the age of 19, Liz was motivating others on speaking tours and
by 22, she was conducting workshops to guide others struggling with life s curveballs. ( James N.P.).
This indicates that Liz is going around to different places and inspiring them to change their lives. As

direction.Another example, is according to reporter Julia Gabriela, Liz mentors youth at the Covenant
House in New York City. She urges students to express their gratitude and to not treat someone like
they re broken. (Gabriela N.P.). This demonstrates that she is not only helping other people who went
through the same situation as her succeed in life but she teaching them how to do the same and be
kind to others. This shows that Liz Murray is not only helping them

The Great Depression Of The 1920 S
Following WW I in the 1920 s, there was a decade of an economical explosion. The post war era
brought about many changes. Businesses showed great profits, migration to big cities of industrial
companies occurred with the hopes of making a better life, people were given the opportunity to
purchase things on credit, while others borrowed money making poor decisions buying high priced
stocks with the intention of selling stocks for a profits to repay lenders. When Black Tuesday occurred
on October 29, 1929, this marked the beginning of the Great Depression that left devastating
economic hardships for the American people. Although it was always my belief that the stock market

S. and other countries that had industries charged high import taxes on good that were offered for sale.
These taxes prevented counties from selling the goods they needed to earn the money to repay loans to
the U.S. banks. In a three year period over 9,000 banks went bankrupt or had to close their doors to
avoid bankruptcy which led to a decline in purchasing powers. When the banks started failing people
lost their saving because the banks were uninsured. The banks weren t as willing to offer new loans.
At the same time this was occurring, there was the distribution of unequal income. Businesses were
showing great profits during the 1920 s, however the working class only got a small portion of this
wealth with their low wages. People with low incomes purchased merchandise on credit. People
thought that they had more money to spend on materialistic possessions using credit. Advertising
increased, enticing people with the buy now, pay later slogan which in turn caused many consumers to
accumulate so much debt that were unable to keep up with payments on the items they purchased, and
they were repossessed. Once the slowing of manufactured goods occurred, inventory accumulated and
there was a backlog of purchasing merchandise which caused even less spending that didn t help the
economy.
Another problem contributing to the Depression was the epic drought that occurred in 1930. During
WWI, thousands of farmers migrated to the Great Plains area because of its rich

Americans have used music for decades to represent and honor their Mexican roots and patriotism, but

I think this text is about a woman, that is a dreamer and thinks less of herself. I can say this because in
the monologue, the curious woman set out various examples such as on lines 1 and 2 it says The
woman I am in my dreams is taller than i am. I think this precise sentence means that she wants to
stand tall/up for herself and support her own opinions, which leads to my first point. A another
obvious example is, on lines 24 28 she reveals The woman I am in my dreams her legs are straight and
sure, they don t fall out from under her, they don t hide under long skirts her legs and feet are well.

Diversification In Chameleons
Quantifying diversification dynamics in Chameleons
The objective of this research is to investigate diversification rate shifts to see if there was a higher
speciation rate in chameleons once they dispersed from Africa to Madagascar. My phylogenetic tree
was built from 6 genes, multiple nuclear and mitochondrial markers and 174 taxa, it represents over
eighty three percent chameleon species. Using three different reconstruction methods, Bayesian and
likelihood approaches it was seen that the family originated in Africa, with two separate oceanic
dispersals to Madagascar. I will be using BAMM software to test diversification rates to see if there
was colonization from Africa to Madagascar. There are three Malagasy genera found on the phylogeny

The table from figure 1, shows the rate shifts from a scale of zero to five, strong evidence suggests
there is a high probability in the rate shift at model one, producing a result of 48%, this shows that
there is a significant shift in the branch of the phylogenetic tree. The second table in figure2, compares
different shifts of models from the post file and prior file using the Bayes factor. The table shows a
slight support for model one when compared to model zero since it has a Bayes factor of 2.35. (Might
have mixed this up, ask dr blair). When checking the effective sampling size of the log likelihood and
the number of shifts present, strong evidence suggest, the higher the sampling size, the more confident
we are when working with our parameters. The effective size for the number of shifts is 2326.543 and
the effective size for the log likelihood is 2605.621, this is shown in figure 4. The BAMM analyses
were run for 20,000000 generations with four chains, sampling a sequence of every 4000 generations
and a burn of ten percent. From the phylogenetic tree, it can be seen that there was a higher speciation
rate in the past, this can be identified because of the warmer color on the branches of the clade.
Speciation rate gets lower as we come closer to the present time, which results in a colder color, blue.
When looking at the phylogenetic tree above, it shows a great significance for adaptive radiation. This
is where one species, due to the change in the environment quickly evolve, this occurs when a species
is dislocated to a different location and has to quickly adapt. From the tree, rapid speciation can be
seen on a branch closest to 90 Myr, but as speciation continues towards present time, it declines. It
could be the new geographical location is not the same ecological set up as the previous location,
hence only the fittest species survive. The diversification rate declines over time due

Gender And Dress Code In Public School
Madison Dixon
Mrs. Byrd
English Comp. I
November 8, 2017
Gender and Dress Code High school dress codes are rules for clothing that is deemed either
appropriate or inappropriate to wear to school. Standard codes in public schools, that don t have
uniforms, typically require students to have sleeved garments and leg wear that is a certain length. At
some schools, the term leg wear doesn t include leggings, while other schools permit leggings as long
as your shirt or other clothing reaches the length that shorts are required to meet. After attending five
public schools, three of which during my high school career, I can verify that these were typically the
enforced rules. All schools also had rules against hats and certain headgear, though exceptions would
sometimes be made, such as in the case of spirit week. My most recent school has, for the most part,
been very relaxed about dress codes. Most of the rules are simply to maintain a piece of decency
among the students. The code basically calls for undergarments to remain concealed, provocative skin
can t be shown, shirts must have sleeves, and leg wear must be longer than your fingertips with your
hands at your sides. However, there are some inconsistencies with dress codes that I have noticed and
can t seem to understand. There seems to be lenience for boys when it comes to the enforcement of
dress codes. Of course, boys don t have a tendency to wear track shorts or tank tops to school.
However, I ve been coded for

Technology:
On the technological front, we recommend that Volkswagen should develop sensors which could
effectively determine the emission levels. For example, Oxygen sensors are a standard equipment on
passenger cars and light truck engines.
They should develop new ultra sensitive sensors that will detect the car s speed and according adjust
the system to reduce the fuel consumption. This will lead to the reduction in the carbon footprints left
by the cars manufactured by the company. Volkswagen should also make changes to its existing diesel
engine technology .
These strategies are in line with the UN goal 9 Industry, Innovation Infrastructure.
3. Operations:
We advice Volkswagen to consider and incorporate some of the manufacturing style used by Toyota
Co. as per the operation environment of Volkswagen:
Kaizen: Volkswagen should consider the process of continuous improvement with all the tasks
involved being precisely defined and standardized.
Jidoka: Will help in designing equipment and processes to stop and call attention to problems
immediately when they sense a problem is a central concept of Volkswagen.
These strategies are in line with the UN goal 12 Responsible Consumption and Production.

Synthesis And Testing Of Aa2014 Al2o3
Synthesis And Testing of AA2014 Al2O3(alpha) Nano Composite
Abstract Al2O3 reinforced Aluminium Matrix Composites give advanced mechanical physical
properties. They have voluminous applications in automobile, aerospace, defense, sports, electronics,
bio medical and other industrial fields. Various manufacturing techniques like stir casting, ultra sonic
assisted casting, compo casting, powder metallurgy, liquid infiltration are used for the production of
the aluminium matrix composites. These composites reveal advanced physical and mechanical
properties like lower density, low coefficient of thermal expansion, good corrosion resistance, high
tensile strength, high stiffness, high hardness and wear resistance. Our paper reviews the
characterization of mechanical properties like tensile strength, hardness with production route of
casting for aluminium matrix Al2O3 composites. Al2O3 agglomeration along with the increasing
volume percentage is still a challenging task in composites materials manufacturing. 0.5% by weight
of pure magnesium powder is used as wetting agent. Process parameters are optimized for the stir
casting process of aluminium composite. Tensile and hardness test microstructure study was
performed to find the deviation from the aluminium alloy.
Keywords: Agglomeration, stir casting, aluminium composite.

St. Peterville City Case Study

The first concept illustrated by this meeting was the concept of effective management and planning
covered in module 6. By the accounts of residents, it is clear that the city has not been effective in
previous years, in planning the restoration and preservation of local roads. The city has not been
proactive in planning which streets should be repaired, when, or to what those repairs should be. A
common complaint of residents was that the city appeared to be content on postponing repairs when it
would be more convenient and cost effective to handle the situation as soon as possible. I believe St.
Augustine should practice a more adaptive style of management and respond to changing conditions.
From listening to the meeting, it seems that the city originally underestimated the problems plaguing
their roads and decided that certain areas could stand to wait for repairs. From the accounts of citizens,
it is clear that philosophy is not going to stand anymore. In my opinion, I think the city needs to be
more proactive and handle the deteriorating condition of their roads a lot sooner than later, and at the
very least re evaluate old plans. The second concept demonstrated was collective action. Collective
action is defined as a coordinated effort of several individuals or groups, who cooperate to accomplish
specific goals. What was originally just a basic meeting to approve a budget quickly turned into a
discussion on a major public issue due to the words of several speakers.

Theme Of Love In The Canterbury Tales
The idea of love in marriage is a reoccurring theme within British literature, and Chaucer s The
Canterbury Tales is no exception. The Canterbury Tales consists of a multitude of short stories which
offers a peek into what the social culture of England in the Middle Ages may have been like. Two
stories, in particular, are The Millers Tale and The Knights Tale, which are two contrasting stories that
juxtaposes each other s stance on love in marriage. From the very moment Palamon and Arcite lay
eyes on Emily in The Knights Tale, they are struck with a love so intense that they feel sick to their
stomachs. Although this may seem like a typical cliche, this behavior is also fairly typical within the
courtly love genre. Palamon and Arcite view Emily as a goddess, even going as far as to potentially
break the knight s oath. Soon after, Duke Theseus enters the scene and questions Palamon and Arcite s
intense love. Theseus believes that love has the powerful ability to bend people s heart at will. This is
evident between Palamon and Arcite as they are willing to break the oath which they are sworn into to
fulfill their desires. Ironically, Theseus himself had committed silly acts for the name of love and
believes that the wretch I am, now weeping, wailing thus, ( The Knights Tale 931). The Knights Tale
has a seemingly conflicting stance on love in that it paints an ennobling portrayal of courtly love in a
degrading way. For example, it is evident that Arcite and Palamon

Paner A Successful Company With A Bright Future
While I believe that Panera is a successful company with a bright future, I have a few

of action for each recommendation. I recommend that Panera open drive thru service in all of their
restaurants. They could provide drinks and pastries through the drive thru to customers on the go in
the morning. This would especially be beneficial during bad weather when consumers are leery of
leaving their vehicles. By providing this service Panera will be able to get more of a market share on
the morning commuters. To put this in action Panera should first analyze which of their buildings are
already situated with an outside wall that could accommodate a window and driving lane. Next Panera
should begin the training and construction needed at these stores. Panera should then evaluate any
necessary changes to other stores that are within malls, or come to the realization that a drive thru is
not an option without moving the stores. Those stores would be last to deal with. I recommend that
Panera partner with recording companies to create promotions which will help both Panera and the
recording industry. I think Panera would benefit from linking the customer rewards card with music
downloads on the internet. In order to do this Panera would need to meet with several recording
companies to obtain rights and to make a mutually beneficial agreement. After the agreement is in

Summary Of An American Folk Tale By Americo Paredes
With His Pistol in His Hand by Americo Paredes is an American folk tale about taking place in 1901
along the Texas Mexico border. Paredes tells the story of Gregorio Cortez a Mexican farmer living on
the south Texas Border who was made a hero by his people. The second novel is that of Chester
Himes If He Hollers Let Him Go. Both stories deal with the issues of violence and racism, although in
very different ways. Based on both works, I believe that Bob Jones figure leaves a more lasting and
long term consequence of racism. Chester Himes novel about Bob Jones has somewhat of an
autobiographical touch to it. It is more persuasive in the way that, he and Bob have a lot in common.
Even though Paredes character focuses on a real character he is made into a fictional, whereas Bob
Jones may or may not be representative of some of the author s actual experiences were, leaven the
reader or audience with a longer lasting impression of the hardship during those times.
Gregorio Cortez was an unknown man until 1901.He was considered an outlaw but was also a likeable
young man according to others. Cortez had never been in trouble with the law. Cortez was one of three
sons, and he lived on a farm with his parents. Cortez only occasionally had some disputes with
American farmers. Cortez tried to stay out of any kind of trouble but one day, Cortez received a visit

The United States Vs. The Federal Election Commission
One of the most controversial court cases that has pitted the main political forces against each other
this past decade has been the controversial Citizens United vs. the Federal Election Commission. The
background of the case, as taken from the website of the FEC states the following:
The Federal Election Campaign Act (the Act) prohibits corporations and labor unions from using their
general treasury funds to make electioneering communications or for speech that expressly advocates
the election or defeat of a federal candidate.
With the advent of this court decision, the Supreme Court of the United states found that Citizens
United fim degrading a political candidate (Hillary Clinton to be exact) through the process of
marketing and advertising a film was protected under the umbrella of the First Amendment guarding
political speech. Such monetization of the political process calls into question the strength of the
current democracy and the ounces of corruption that could soon turn into pounds. There are few nation
states that one could point to as being truly corruption free (Denmark hosts the most corruption free
gov t according to Transparency International s 2014 Corruption Perceptions Index). However, this is
a trait that holds back the growth of the whole of society, weakening the disadvantaged and
emboldening the powerful. As Transparency International goes on to state:

African Art And Art
Another example of how culture influences art is the painting Spring Morning in the Han Palace by
Qui Ying. He was considered to be one of the Four Great Masters of the Ming Dynasty from 1368 to
1644. This painting depicted many everyday activities that would be done during the early spring
time. The work of art done by Qui Ying includes people tending to flowers and playing chess, which
are part of the Chinese culture during the spring. African art work and culture is geared towards the
religious aspects of life. Terracotta figures that did not interfere with human representation were the
first kind of African art. African art s main focus is expanding the world to decrease the fear of the
unknown. For example, a mask that was used for rituals and ceremonies created by Dual God Gulu.
The mask brings life and death. This is an example of African art that involves the religious aspect of
culture.
Fashion and clothing are most definitely a necessity in life, but also a work of art. What people wore
in the past to what we wear today is all inspired by culture. Taking a look at the past Native Americans
belonging to over five hundred groups with one of a kind traditions and ways of life dressed according
to their belief systems and culture. Some tribes had worshipped the sun and in order for them to show
their respects for the sun they wore very bright colored clothing. Whereas other tribes did not worship
the sun, instead they worshipped the mountains so they would wear attire

Aristotle s Four Main Causes Essay
To some the causes and effects of things are mutually exclusive, and coexistence with one another.
When observing specific equipment or even life, the question stands that there must be an account that
took place before such items ceased to exist. Particularly, Aristotle argues that each thing, whatever it
may be, will have causes, or types of explanatory factors by which that thing can be explained. The
significant knowledge of causes allows for specific accounts to be known. It s like questioning what
occurred first the chicken or the egg. Anything in life offers a question of cause; something must have
been in order to bring about the nature of today. These causes are apparent in answering everyday
questions, which in turn explains that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The first causes of things are the Material cause: that from which, as a constituent present in it, a thing
comes to be. Material cause relates to the corporeal cause of a specific object (194b,24). The material
cause consequently transpires for the reason that the parts constituents as materials. Next, the
elucidation of the causes is a direct derivative from its own portions such as elements, components,
materials, establishing entire thing. Aristotle refers to bronze and silver as models of material cause;
which describes that the elements are the causes of a statue. So having bronze will ultimately lead one
to a statue. In referring to change the bronze transforms into the statue. Physically the statue must
undergo some process to change its current state into a statue. The material causes of things allow us
to function. For example the beds that we sleep on every day and the homes or dorms people walk into
are a material cause of some builder or manufactures. Aristotle wrote That we must acquire
knowledge, of the original causes since we say we know a thing whenever we think we know its
primary cause (983a, 24 16). Aristotle draws a discrepancy amongst potential and practicality. This is
directly correlated to the process of change and motion. Change can be described as an object taking
on a new form. The object has the potential to convert into something different, and change is actually
the potential of one form of matter to become another form of

Coach Carter Journey
Thomas Carter s Coach Carter is a film about basketball players and nothing else... Right? Wrong!
Coach Carter is a film that dives into so much more than just basketball. Released in 2005, and based
on the true story of the 1999 Richmond High Basketball team. The film follows the lives of the
players and coach of the team, who all live and battle with their own demons.
The story is one filled with triumphs, disappointments and decisions that shape lives. It follows the
lives of Coach Ken Carter (Samuel L. Jackson), Kenyon Stone (Rob Brown), Damien Carter (Robert
Ri chard), Timo Cruz (Rick Gonzalez), Junior Battle (Nana Gbewonyo), Worm (Antonio Tanner) and
Jason Lyle (Channing Tatum). Each of these has their own issues, but then all have one ... Show more

In the majority of the scenes in which we see Coach Ken Carter, he is being shown from a low angle,
to imply power. In the scene where we see him pondering in the gym though, he is shown from a far
high angle, which signifies that he is vulnerable and indicates that he is thinking is it worth it? or am I
doing the right thing? When Cruz delivers his speech about his deepest fear, it is an eye level shot. He
is neither strong, nor weak.
There is varying lighting throughout the film. The start of the film is in a dark gym, which is a sign of
where the team was. When the team finally gets their grades up, it is all natural lighting, this is telling
us that the mood is better, and that good things are coming. But prior to that there are several scenes
where the lighting is dark. One particular scene is the one in which Rennie is shot.
The costumes are very gangster outfits. The costume designers are trying to portray a stereotypical
American teen growing up in a bad neighbourhood, a thug . The clothes are baggy, loose pants,
oversized shirts and baggy, big hoodies. As we see these boys transition into men, they start to dress in
a more professional way, which is one of the physical

Film Analysis Of The Critique Of William Shakespeare
The playwright is William Shakespeare. The director is Melissa Chalsma. The actors are: Duke
Vincento, later in disguise, as Friar Lodovico is David Melville. Angelo, his chosen deputy is William
Elsman. Isabella, a novitiate of the church is Kalean Ung. Claudio, her brother is Evan Lewis Smith.
Juliet, his beloved is Donna Zadeh. Lucio, a nobleman of Vienna is Nikhil Pai. Gentleman and women
are Bukola Ogunmela, April Fritz, and Nathan Nonhof. Mistress Overdone, a local businesswoman is
Xavi Moreno. Pompey Bum, her bawd is Lorenzo Gonzalez. Francisca, a nun is Bukola Ogunmola.
Friar Peter is Patrick Batiste. Provost, in command of the prison is Joseph Culliton. Elbow, a constable
is Richard Azurdia. Froth, a gentleman of Vienna is Patrick Batiste. Abhorson, an executioner is
Nathan Nonhof. Barnardine, a murderer is Xavi Moreno. Mariana, a gentlewoman of Vienna is April
Fritz. A Musician is Donna Zadeh. The name of the play, I saw was Measure for Measure. The
Independent Shakespeare Company at the Griffith Park Free Shakespeare Festival hosted the play. I
saw it on July 7, 2017. During the play, I noticed a few different themes. Some of the theme I noticed
was justice, lying, mortality, and sin. Justice was present through the whole play; in fact, it was the
heart and soul of the play. Justice was present when Claudio was sentenced to be killed and the Duke
allowed Angelo to change Vienna s laws.
Measure for Measure to me was an interesting and convincing play. The part that worked the best was
when the Duke disguising himself as Friar. I would of never known the disguise without the program.
Another bit that worked well was when Claudio was arrested and sentenced to death. The opening,
when the Duke did the announcements, it was hilarious. The part where I felt scared was after Claudio
had sex with Juliet. The part where I felt sad was when Claudio was sentenced to death. Overall the
characters were entertaining. Most of the characters were genuine. The productions had a religious
message for the audience. The message was not to have sex before marriage.
The characters were all believable. The two characters that stuck out the most to me were Claudio,
Evan Lewis Smith and Abhorson, Nathan Nonhof. Evan

Gilgamesh Hero Definition
When opening a dictionary someone will see a hero defined as A person who is admired for their
courage, outstanding achievements, or noble qualities . With this in mind, does this apply to all people
like Gilgamesh, Odysseus, and others deemed heroes ? A hero is more than just it s dictionary
definition, there are many different types of heroes from amoral, to epic. The idea of there being one
set definition of what a hero is inherently flawed since subjectively a hero can be twisted to what
anyone wants it to be.
A Hero is often classified as powerful and strong and caring, the former two are especially important
in ancient times. For example, Gilgamesh, the protagonist of the Epic of Gilgamesh who was
described as a tyrant and because of his power and strength all the people of reach were brought
beneath his sway.( Gilgamesh 21) Gilgamesh does demonstrate heroic qualities, but is also incredibly
cocky, (after Enkidu dies) very whiny, selfish, scared of his own mortality. He doesn t decide to be a
better ruler after a long period of time. The same can be said for Miguel Leonzo. He described often
described as conniving, and cunning. As an illustration, on page 235, Liss writes, Parido had trapped
himself within his own scheme, and the world would now see who was the cleverer man. Miguel
would win this battle in a manner worthy of Charming Pieter (Liss, 235). In Miguel s meeting the Ma
amad, Parido has all the power and force, but Miguel uses his wits to defeat

Some studies by John Money and his colleagues have been made of girls whose mothers received excessive amounts of androgens during pregnancy (to reduce the likelihood of miscarriage) .The babies developed Androgential Syndrome. As they grew they tended to be more aggressive and tomboyish , and less feminine. They preferred male activities with male company and expressed more interest in a career than in having a family.

When a child is born their gender role (set of expectations to say how they should think, act, feel.) is based on their gender identity (sense of being male/female), which is usually based on what sex the child s genitalia reflects. When we look at children who have Androgen Insensitivity Syndrome, it is interesting to see that some individuals develop in a feminine direction and acquire a sense of identity as female but others are brought up as males. • 8. The Prisoner Of War Camps Many citizens of the United States immediately after the Civil War knew very little of the atrocities of that occurred in the prisoner of war camps. News that their family member was in a prisoner of war camp was usually dreaded by the family of the captured soldiers. While being dead was much worse the families never truly knew what was going on inside the camps. For the Confederacy, many feared Rock Island, but there was a just as deadly camp just north of Rock Island in Chicago. Once the war had ended the atrocities of what occurred inside the prisoner of war camps became apparent. Suddenly multiple fingers were pointed at what was the culprit for such deplorable conditions. The pictures, descriptions, and accounts of what happened inside the prisoner of war camps became a part of not only history but the media as well. Multiple books were written about the prisoner of war camps, several works of fiction reference the prisoner of war camps. Andersonville is almost unanimously regarded as the worst camp for a Union soldier to get sent to. Rock Island seems to be the place that many agree as the worst camp that a Confederate soldier could get sent to. • 9. A Primary Source Of The West Indies By Henry Nelson Coleridge The document I chose to analyze as a primary source is Six Months in The West Indies by Henry Nelson Coleridge. This is a small journal published in 1825 that follows Henry N. Coleridge s trips around the West Indies with his uncle, William Hart Coleridge who is a bishop of Barbados. While on his trip throughout the isles, Coleridge not only comments on the local governments and ecosystems but the treatment of slaves and the institution of slavery as well. His viewpoints are in no way abolitionist, but he does appear to have a vein of sympathy for slaves of the West Indies. Many of his viewpoints are on how society and slave owners in the West Indies could better the lives of their slaves, none of them abolition, but for instance he suggests that one of the most effectual ways for bettering the slaves would be thorough and humanizing education of the masters themselves (p.54). While this argument, I feel, is not uncommon of a well educated, English, relative of a high ranking religious official during this time period, I find it interesting to compare Coleridge s accounts of slavery throughout the West Indies with that of an actual slave, Mary Prince, in the same region. Mary Prince was a slave in the Caribbean, who was bought and sold to multiple owners, on multiple isles, eventually gaining her freedom in Britain in 1828. This secondary source, The History of Mary Prince, was transcribed by Suzanna Strickland and edited by the abolitionist who took her in, Thomas Pringle ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Originally priced at $249.99, and now available from Garmin for $219.99, Vivoactive combines the features of a traditional sports and fitness trackers with the added functionality of a smartwatch (Stables, 2015). Stables (2015) continues by giving the Vivoactive a generally positive review, praising the smartwatch for its, incredible set of fitness features with top notch notifications (para. 35). Leinbach Reyhle (2016) reports that the trend of wearable technology continues to grow, adding that consumers spent over $2 billion on wearable technology in 2015, with expectations to spend even more in the years to come. Through a functional analysis of cost based and market based pricing structures, it becomes apparent that using a market based approach to develop a cost structure for the Vivoactive has the potential to generate the most profit for Garmin, due to competitive factors, the inexpensive nature of many components, and the relatively new introduction of the technology. Market Based Pricing Market based pricing begins with evaluating market trends, competitor products, and consumer demand, to determine how the customer s willingness to pay the asking price for the product (Grand Canyon University, 2016). With that being said, we had a long 14 hour flight ahead of us, but the sky was blue and we were all filled up with excitement as to what would come next. I had never been in the Caribbean before and I did not know what to except. As we sat impatiently waiting to board our plane, I started writing my diary for the trip. Because we were going to be away for a good month or even more, I had to write a diary of my experiences and what I learned so that I could turn it in when I got back to school. As I began writing, I started to brainstorm of what I thought it was going to be like being in a very different culture with people you had never seen before. Conflict Between Emperors And Popes Based on the video lessons, what were the reasons behind the conflicts between the emperors and the popes during this period: The main reason for strife between the popes and the holy Roman emperors starts with Fredrick Barbarossa realizing that the French and English Kings were beginning to wield a lot of power and that there was way too much decentralization going on in his Empire. Fredrick begins by trying to take the Northern Lombard states in Italy for their wealth. The Lombard states however are not really fans of being absorbed into the HRE, and the first seed of discord between the Emperor and Pope is sown when the Pope sides with the Lombard cities. The stories are all over the place but not in missed up way, instead it flows very well. The downside to it, it is how most of the stories end. The endings are horrible because there is no explanation for the readers to understand. In the story Fiancée, Penny is supposed to be back in Montreal to reunites with her fiancée Andrew. The quote state: She will return to Montreal at the end of the month. Her ticket is booked and Andrew expects her. (120). It seems like she will go back to her lover but she does not. Furthermore, Penny argue: I ll probably just keep going west, she says. Get on the train and go all the way to Vancouver. (120). It is kind of confusing how she s changing her mind. The ending of The Fiancee story is not understandable because Willis does not give any information how Penny ended up. On the other hand, the short story This Other Us has an ending which has no clue how the character Lise ends up. Lise is supposed to come home and see her boyfriend Lawrence waiting for her but instead she comes to see Lawrence with his ex girlfriend Keren who is also Lise s best friend. Hitler s Rise Of Power And Get His Fascist Ideas Why Did Hitler Rise to Power and Get his Fascist Ideas This essay will talk about the life of the Nazi Party (also known as the National Socialist German Workers Party), Fascism in Germany, and Adolf Hitler. It will think about what influenced Germany to vote for the Nazis and whether or not Hitler was brought up with the idea of fascism, or whether he was mentally scarred from a young age. This essay will also discuss about how did the Nazis do in their early years in the German elections, and how did a fascist party with such ludicrous ideas persuade a country as large and as multi religion as Germany? A multitude of different factors contributed to the rise of Fascism within the period of post World War 1 Germany. As Adolf Hitler was the perpetrator and mastermind behind much of the rise of Fascism in Germany, factors which contributed to his opinions and ideals must obligatorily be looked at in this topic. His failed attempted career in art, the death of his mother, his homelessness in Vienna, his time in prison (in which he wrote Mein Kampf), his time at war at an early age; all of these circumstances contributed to his Fascist ideals, and therefore to the rise of Fascism and the popularity of the Nazi Party. Use of Light and Darkness in Joseph Conrad s Heart of Darkness Joseph Conrad s Heart of Darkness contrasts light and darkness, to represent the civilized and uncivilized sides of the world. Conrad uses light to represent the civilized side of humanity while contrasting the dark with the uncivilized and savage. Throughout the thematic stages of the novel, that is the Thames river London, the company s office in Belgium, the journey to the heart of darkness and the conclusion, light and dark is used to represent these sides of humanity, but on a deeper level many assumptions of darkness and light are challenged, with the appearance of light and dark, and in turn good and evil contrasting with the reality. Marlow s journey to the Belgium company s office, where he encounters two women knitting black wool. The two women are commonly interpreted of representing two of the three fates of Ancient Greek mythology who spun, wove and cut thread to represent the birth, lifespan and death of mortals. This darkness used perhaps foreshadows the evil he will encounter, something that merely fate may decide. Marlow describes the place as the city that always makes me think of a whited supulchre , and the city of the dead , thus, white in this instance is used to represent the exploitation of the company and the true evil, which is hiding behind the façade of light and progress. Therefore Conrad uses the civilized white to represent the evil of the dead city and the search for the precious trickle of ivory . My phylogenetic tree was built from 6 genes, multiple nuclear and mitochondrial markers and 174 taxa, it represents over eighty three percent chameleon species. Using three different reconstruction methods, Bayesian and likelihood approaches it was seen that the family originated in Africa, with two separate oceanic dispersals to Madagascar. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The table from figure 1, shows the rate shifts from a scale of zero to five, strong evidence suggests there is a high probability in the rate shift at model one, producing a result of 48%, this shows that there is a significant shift in the branch of the phylogenetic tree. The second table in figure2, compares different shifts of models from the post file and prior file using the Bayes factor. The table shows a slight support for model one when compared to model zero since it has a Bayes factor of 2.35. (Might have mixed this up, ask dr blair). When checking the effective sampling size of the log likelihood and the number of shifts present, strong evidence suggest, the higher the sampling size, the more confident we are when working with our parameters. The effective size for the number of shifts is 2326.543 and the effective size for the log likelihood is 2605.621, this is shown in figure 4. The BAMM analyses were run for 20,000000 generations with four chains, sampling a sequence of every 4000 generations and a burn of ten percent. From the phylogenetic tree, it can be seen that there was a higher speciation rate in the past, this can be identified because of the warmer color on the branches of the clade. Speciation rate gets lower as we come closer to the present time, which results in a colder color, blue. When looking at the phylogenetic tree above, it shows a great significance for adaptive radiation. This is where one species, due to the change in the environment quickly evolve, this occurs when a species is dislocated to a different location and has to quickly adapt. From the tree, rapid speciation can be seen on a branch closest to 90 Myr, but as speciation continues towards present time, it declines. Standard codes in public schools, that don t have uniforms, typically require students to have sleeved garments and leg wear that is a certain length. At some schools, the term leg wear doesn t include leggings, while other schools permit leggings as long as your shirt or other clothing reaches the length that shorts are required to meet. After attending five public schools, three of which during my high school career, I can verify that these were typically the enforced rules. All schools also had rules against hats and certain headgear, though exceptions would sometimes be made, such as in the case of spirit week. My most recent school has, for the most part, been very relaxed about dress codes. Most of the rules are simply to maintain a piece of decency among the students. The code basically calls for undergarments to remain concealed, provocative skin can t be shown, shirts must have sleeves, and leg wear must be longer than your fingertips with your hands at your sides. However, there are some inconsistencies with dress codes that I have noticed and can t seem to understand. There seems to be lenience for boys when it comes to the enforcement of dress codes. By the accounts of residents, it is clear that the city has not been effective in previous years, in planning the restoration and preservation of local roads. A common complaint of residents was that the city appeared to be content on postponing repairs when it would be more convenient and cost effective to handle the situation as soon as possible. I believe St. Augustine should practice a more adaptive style of management and respond to changing conditions. From listening to the meeting, it seems that the city originally underestimated the problems plaguing their roads and decided that certain areas could stand to wait for repairs. From the accounts of citizens, it is clear that philosophy is not going to stand anymore. In my opinion, I think the city needs to be more proactive and handle the deteriorating condition of their roads a lot sooner than later, and at the very least re evaluate old plans. • 37. Theme Of Love In The Canterbury Tales The idea of love in marriage is a reoccurring theme within British literature, and Chaucer s The Canterbury Tales is no exception. The Canterbury Tales consists of a multitude of short stories which offers a peek into what the social culture of England in the Middle Ages may have been like. Two stories, in particular, are The Millers Tale and The Knights Tale, which are two contrasting stories that juxtaposes each other s stance on love in marriage. From the very moment Palamon and Arcite lay eyes on Emily in The Knights Tale, they are struck with a love so intense that they feel sick to their stomachs. Although this may seem like a typical cliche, this behavior is also fairly typical within the courtly love genre. Palamon and Arcite view Emily as a goddess, even going as far as to potentially break the knight s oath. Soon after, Duke Theseus enters the scene and questions Palamon and Arcite s intense love. Theseus believes that love has the powerful ability to bend people s heart at will. This is evident between Palamon and Arcite as they are willing to break the oath which they are sworn into to fulfill their desires. Ironically, Theseus himself had committed silly acts for the name of love and believes that the wretch I am, now weeping, wailing thus, ( The Knights Tale 931). By providing this service Panera will be able to get more of a market share on the morning commuters. Paredes tells the story of Gregorio Cortez a Mexican farmer living on the south Texas Border who was made a hero by his people. The second novel is that of Chester Himes If He Hollers Let Him Go. Both stories deal with the issues of violence and racism, although in very different ways. Based on both works, I believe that Bob Jones figure leaves a more lasting and long term consequence of racism. Chester Himes novel about Bob Jones has somewhat of an autobiographical touch to it. It is more persuasive in the way that, he and Bob have a lot in common. With the advent of this court decision, the Supreme Court of the United states found that Citizens United fim degrading a political candidate (Hillary Clinton to be exact) through the process of marketing and advertising a film was protected under the umbrella of the First Amendment guarding political speech. • 43. African Art And Art Another example of how culture influences art is the painting Spring Morning in the Han Palace by Qui Ying. He was considered to be one of the Four Great Masters of the Ming Dynasty from 1368 to 1644. This painting depicted many everyday activities that would be done during the early spring time. The work of art done by Qui Ying includes people tending to flowers and playing chess, which are part of the Chinese culture during the spring. African art work and culture is geared towards the religious aspects of life. Terracotta figures that did not interfere with human representation were the first kind of African art. African art s main focus is expanding the world to decrease the fear of the unknown. For example, a mask that was used for rituals and ceremonies created by Dual God Gulu. The mask brings life and death. This is an example of African art that involves the religious aspect of culture. Fashion and clothing are most definitely a necessity in life, but also a work of art. What people wore in the past to what we wear today is all inspired by culture. Taking a look at the past Native Americans belonging to over five hundred groups with one of a kind traditions and ways of life dressed according to their belief systems and culture. • 44. Aristotle s Four Main Causes Essay To some the causes and effects of things are mutually exclusive, and coexistence with one another. When observing specific equipment or even life, the question stands that there must be an account that took place before such items ceased to exist. Particularly, Aristotle argues that each thing, whatever it may be, will have causes, or types of explanatory factors by which that thing can be explained. The significant knowledge of causes allows for specific accounts to be known. It s like questioning what occurred first the chicken or the egg. Anything in life offers a question of cause; something must have been in order to bring about the nature of today. These causes are apparent in answering everyday questions, which in turn explains that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The first causes of things are the Material cause: that from which, as a constituent present in it, a thing comes to be. Material cause relates to the corporeal cause of a specific object (194b,24). The material cause consequently transpires for the reason that the parts constituents as materials. Next, the elucidation of the causes is a direct derivative from its own portions such as elements, components, materials, establishing entire thing. Aristotle refers to bronze and silver as models of material cause; which describes that the elements are the causes of a statue. So having bronze will ultimately lead one to a statue. In referring to change the bronze transforms into the statue. Physically the statue must undergo some process to change its current state into a statue. The material causes of things allow us to function. For example the beds that we sleep on every day and the homes or dorms people walk into are a material cause of some builder or manufactures. Aristotle wrote That we must acquire knowledge, of the original causes since we say we know a thing whenever we think we know its primary cause (983a, 24 16). Aristotle draws a discrepancy amongst potential and practicality. This is directly correlated to the process of change and motion. Change can be described as an object taking on a new form. The object has the potential to convert into something different, and change is actually the potential of one form of matter to become another form of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The film follows the lives of the players and coach of the team, who all live and battle with their own demons. The story is one filled with triumphs, disappointments and decisions that shape lives. It follows the lives of Coach Ken Carter (Samuel L. Each of these has their own issues, but then all have one ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the majority of the scenes in which we see Coach Ken Carter, he is being shown from a low angle, to imply power. In the scene where we see him pondering in the gym though, he is shown from a far high angle, which signifies that he is vulnerable and indicates that he is thinking is it worth it? or am I doing the right thing? When Cruz delivers his speech about his deepest fear, it is an eye level shot. He is neither strong, nor weak. There is varying lighting throughout the film. The start of the film is in a dark gym, which is a sign of where the team was. When the team finally gets their grades up, it is all natural lighting, this is telling us that the mood is better, and that good things are coming. But prior to that there are several scenes where the lighting is dark. One particular scene is the one in which Rennie is shot. The costumes are very gangster outfits. The costume designers are trying to portray a stereotypical American teen growing up in a bad neighbourhood, a thug . The clothes are baggy, loose pants, oversized shirts and baggy, big hoodies. As we see these boys transition into men, they start to dress in a more professional way, which is one of the physical ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Independent Shakespeare Company at the Griffith Park Free Shakespeare Festival hosted the play. I saw it on July 7, 2017. During the play, I noticed a few different themes. Some of the theme I noticed was justice, lying, mortality, and sin. Justice was present through the whole play; in fact, it was the heart and soul of the play. Justice was present when Claudio was sentenced to be killed and the Duke allowed Angelo to change Vienna s laws. Measure for Measure to me was an interesting and convincing play. The part that worked the best was when the Duke disguising himself as Friar. I would of never known the disguise without the program. Another bit that worked well was when Claudio was arrested and sentenced to death. The opening, when the Duke did the announcements, it was hilarious. The part where I felt scared was after Claudio had sex with Juliet. The part where I felt sad was when Claudio was sentenced to death. Overall the characters were entertaining. Most of the characters were genuine. The productions had a religious message for the audience. The message was not to have sex before marriage. The characters were all believable. The two characters that stuck out the most to me were Claudio, Evan Lewis Smith and Abhorson, Nathan Nonhof. Evan ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 47. Gilgamesh Hero Definition When opening a dictionary someone will see a hero defined as A person who is admired for their courage, outstanding achievements, or noble qualities . With this in mind, does this apply to all people like Gilgamesh, Odysseus, and others deemed heroes ? A hero is more than just it s dictionary definition, there are many different types of heroes from amoral, to epic. The idea of there being one set definition of what a hero is inherently flawed since subjectively a hero can be twisted to what anyone wants it to be. A Hero is often classified as powerful and strong and caring, the former two are especially important in ancient times. For example, Gilgamesh, the protagonist of the Epic of Gilgamesh who was described as a tyrant and because of his power and strength all the people of reach were brought beneath his sway.( Gilgamesh 21) Gilgamesh does demonstrate heroic qualities, but is also incredibly cocky, (after Enkidu dies) very whiny, selfish, scared of his own mortality. He doesn t decide to be a better ruler after a long period of time. The same can be said for Miguel Leonzo. He described often described as conniving, and cunning. As an illustration, on page 235, Liss writes, Parido had trapped himself within his own scheme, and the world would now see who was the cleverer man. Miguel would win this battle in a manner worthy of Charming Pieter (Liss, 235). In Miguel s meeting the Ma amad, Parido has all the power and force, but Miguel uses his wits to defeat ...
