Cambridge Financial Case
There were a few key issues with this case. First, the issues with what Roger did. Although minimal,
Roger did not follow up with Steve. SP was in dire need of funding, every second counted. Cambridge
s team had completed their required research three weeks ago, yet Roger did not call SPs only
prospective investor to touch base. Secondly, once Roger did speak with Steve at Cambridge, he
misrepresented SP, by agreeing to an offer to sell controlling ownership of SP to Cambridge. (
fraud___internal_audit_iia_6sep2012, n.d.) Roger misrepresented SP since he did not discuss Steve s
offer of purchasing ownership with the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) or the Audit committee. Roger
agreeing to Steve s terms meant that the Cambridge offer would go ... Show more content on

When Beth initially suspected that something was not right about the purchase of the Dugas stock, she
should have acted. Instead of Beth reporting to Roger, who was the CFO and her immediate boss,
Beth should have reported her suspicions to the audit committee prior to investigating further with
Roger. This is important because Beth needs to be able to be independent from anyone who directly
affects the daily work functions. ( Should Internal Auditor Report to the CFO?, n.d.). Another key
issue was that Beth felt that Roger behaved ethically. It is concerning because she is an internal
auditor and should be able to maintain objectivity. Her actions should not be based on how she feels.
The last key issue with Beth was that she decided to wait two months before acting on her findings.
Empathetically speaking, Beth s ethical dilemma was huge. Does she go to the audit committee since
her immediate boss/CFO risked all of SPs funds to purchase stock based off privileged information,
that Cambridge would invest in Dugas, one day prior to the public announcement. Should she consider
the fact that by purchasing the stock, the CFO essentially saved her job as well as allowing the drug to
be affordable which would in turn potentially aid in saving others from leukemia? I do understand
Beth s concerns. However, It is of my opinion that Beth did not act ethically, in this case. Aside from
the fact that it took her two months to decide, her end decision was based off the concern for legal
ramifications. Beth s basis for concern was focused on what she could be held accountable. She felt
that what Roger did was ethical, which essentially blinded her ability to make decisions. Beth should
have handled her discovery in a different way. Instead of Beth confronting Roger, she should have
brought her suspicions to the audit committee. From here, they could have come up with an
investigation plan. The investigation

Emergency Department Overcrowding
Today, overcrowding affects the viability of emergency departments across this county (Derlet, 2002).
Emergency department overcrowding refers to an excess of patients in the treatment areas exceeding
ED capacity. According to the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations
(JCAHO), over one half of all sentinel event cases of morbidity and mortality resulting from delays in
treatment occur in hospital emergency departments. Emergency department overcrowding has been
cited as a contributing factor in 31% of these sentinel event cases. (Trzeciak Rivers, 2003).
Consequently, overcrowding affects persons who suffer an unexpected severe illness or injury
requiring time sensitive emergency treatment. Therefore, patients must ... Show more content on

Several surveys among health practitioners and nurses have revealed satisfactory usage results. The
respondents stated the system was simple to use, reduced the subjectivity of the triage decision and
was more accurate than other triage systems (Singer, Infante, Oppenheimer, West Siegel, 2012). The
rapid identification of patients that need immediate attention is one of the benefits of the emergency
severity index. The system focuses on the fast and accurate sorting of patients in cases where there is
shortage of adequate resources for treatment of emergency patients. The emergency severity index
(ESI) uses a five level categorization process that is used to rapidly sort emergency patients into five
groups that are based on clinically meaningful differences and projected resource needs available.
Another positive outcome of the emergency severity index is the improved flow of patients through
the emergency department as patients categorized as level one and two can be immediately taken to
the treatment area for rapid evaluation and treatment. Patients determined by the triage nurse to be
lower acuity can safely wait to be attended to after the higher acuity level patients are cared for. There
are other benefits of the system that include determination of the patients who do not need to be seen

Movie Poster History
The histories of movie posters are amazing. There are so many poster it s unbelievable but anyways to
get this research paper started we have to know where these poster came from. In 1899, Georges
Mellie s, produced the first motion picture to tell a story was the first person to make a motion picture.
The first posters were created in the mid 19th century in France as advertisements for new products. In
less than ten years, the use of posters spread from France throughout the rest of Europe. (FFFMovie,
2016) This is how big the first movie poster was the first standard film poster size is set at 27 x41 .
The posters they produced were strictly censored, which of course led to independent printers making
much more graphic versions for much cheaper. Which aren t all the film posters over a long period of

television s emergence in the 1950s, print media was the dominant form of mass media. Print media s

A Little Brief Background On The Family Farm By Sylvia...
Sylvia Bojcvuk, born to Alexander and Albina Bojcvuk on their family farm on January 19th, 1928 in
Ukraine. Little did this young baby girl know she was about to endure a tragic, yet adventurous life
that would impact generations. A little brief background on Ukraine at the time of Sylvia s youth in
1941 Germany and Romania invaded Ukraine changing the country to Romania, then 1944 Soviet
soldier s invaded naming it back to Ukraine, which seems to come full circle to today with the
constant battle of Russia attempting to merge Ukraine into Russia for good. Unfortunately, Soviet
soldiers have a dark history of raping many of the young girls when they invaded Ukraine in 1944.
Sylvia was sixteen at the time and her mother and father hid her in their local farm, this constant
hiding lead to Albina decided they could no longer remain in Ukraine, which is the beginning of
Sylvia Bojcvuk s pilgrimage to a better life. The Bojcvuk family began by taking a train out of
Ukraine, hoping to go South where both Sylvia s older brother and sister currently resided, but the
Soviet soldiers were blocking passage to the South so they had to go west, leaving behind Sylvia s
brother, Adolf, and sister, Eleanor. Unfortunately, Sylvia was never again reunited with her siblings.
Adolf Bojcvuk later died of brain cancer in the 1980 s, and Eleanor Bojcvuk resides in Romania today
in her ninety s. Taking the train west, the Bojcvuk s resided in Austria where Sylvia attended nursing

The role playing partner I selected is Deborah Austin. The client seeking services is a depressed 17
year old girl who has decided to stop attending high school due to failing several classes last semester.
She feels that there is no point in continuing her studies because she will just keep failing and end up
not graduating high school. She had a job working at a local retail store near her home; however, she
decided to quit her job as well. She states that she did not enjoy working there and would rather stay at

Human Struggle In The Tokyo Story
In Ozu s film, the Tokyo Story, has many scenes that define the human struggle, such as the struggle to
make a living, aging and death of loved ones, and the way children eventually fall apart from their
parents when they get older. The one human struggle from Ozu s film that influenced the most
empathy is the inevitable truth of life that the struggle for survival in society eventually drifts
individuals apart such as parents and they re children when they begin to live independently and
become to take care for only themselves because of their daily busy lives.
From this film, Ozu introduces a few scenes to compare the similarities of different generations in the
relationship between children and parents. The first scene that begins this comparison is when Koichi
s son, Minoru, had high hopes of going sightseeing with his parents and grandparents, but when
suddenly Koichi had to go see his sick patient and the plans got cancelled, Minoru was very
disappointed and angry with his parents because he mentions that they always say they will go next
time, but they never seem to keep their words. Ozu includes this scene to show how often parents
never seem to keep their promises with their children because they re constantly busy with their own
things and not have enough free time to spend time with them. It s just like in reality where parents
that struggle financially tend to spend more time at work than at home, thus they never seem to have
the time or use their precious time to take their children out because it always involves money. We can
understand from both sides of perspective, as the parent and as the child. Many of us as a child have
surely experienced the samething atleast one time in our life when our parents never kept they re
words and seemed too busy to play with us. If it were from a wealthy family the parents wouldn t have
to worry about spending they re money and consume most of their time at work. They would most
likely go out more often with their children and take them to places like Disneyland or Legoland such
as most families today. When Ozu included the scene when right before they were ready to go out for
sightseeing and the patient comes in to see Koichi, shows us that this family is

Corporations That Influence Public Art Museum
Corporations and Their Influence in Support for Public Art Museums
Statement of Intent Historically, museums have relied on four sources of financial support: individual
contributions, corporate and foundation support, earned revenues, and government grants. This paper
focuses on present day corporate support for art and the museums that collect and display that art. It
urges museums to reassess their assumptions about corporations and suggests ways that museums can
develop new approaches to align their solicitation of support with changing corporate objectives.

evolution of corporate support for the arts. A brief history of art and ... Show more content on

Thus arts organizations must act to align their needs with the evolving requirements of corporate
benefactors if lasting partnerships are to be formed. Museums must position their brand to
corporations as places of value, enhancement and richness to local communities. Corporations need to
reevaluate museums as a pillar for support on par with any other social cause, with value for society at
large. With better understanding of the overlap of objectives both corporations and arts organizations
share, public museums can offer creative, outside the box thinking in seeking corporate support.
Museum development professionals can better understand the value to not only maintain existing
resources, but ways to seek new partners through innovative corporate engagement by aligning
museum programming and values with the increasingly social and environmental causes corporations
have come to identify. By observing trends in federal and corporate funding for the arts and funding
shifts, this capstone will explore why corporations who currently support public art do so through
funding and art collections, and their increasing needs for employee engagement. Understanding the
relationship history corporate America and art share, and the wide reaches art has made in
contemporary society, can offer museum advancement teams new approaches for funding, and to aid

How Did The Industrial Revolution Dbq
Since the beginning of man, the human race has gone through many changes throughout history. One
of the most significant and critical changes was the Industrial Revolution of Great Britain.
Characterized by the development of new manufacturing processes, the Industrial Revolution was a
period between the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries that spurred extensive changes in almost every
aspect of society. These changes stimulated a major transformation in the way of life and created a
modern urban society based on industrial manufacturing and not agricultural production. The
Industrial Revolution debuted in England because of changes in the textile industry and agriculture
leading to a more stable economic platform, an ever increasing demand for coal, and international
success in the trading market, resulting in the development and improvement of daily ... Show more

Initially, charcoal and wood were used a fuel source, but as those resources became scarce, coal
became a necessity. As shown in Document 1, England was fortunate enough to have a readily
available coal supply that other countries in Europe were not able to have. As England became
industrialized, more coal was needed to fuel steam engines and furnaces. The development of factories
and the improvement of the steam engine also increased the demand for coal. As a result, coal mines
that were once mined at the surface, now got deeper and deeper, and there was too much water to
safely get more coal. When the Newcomen engine was put into use at the coal mines, coal was put
into the steam engine to pump more coal out. Similarly almost every other piece of technology in that
time period used coal as the main fuel source so the need for coal skyrocketed. Document 4 explains
how England had the natural conditions necessary to succeed such as coal, which is a major reason the
Industrial Revolution started in England and not in any other

Classical Realism Vs Neorealism
Throughout the course of history, it had become customary to assume that a state that is fearful of
others and works only to help and protect itself, is the unparalleled genius; this notion is the basis for
the political theory of realism. Neorealism, developed sometime after World War II, is a
reinterpretation of classical realism, which was originally developed in Ancient Greece(M AT 2017,
80). Kenneth Waltz, whose work helped the transition from realism to neorealism, believed that the
structure of the international system was the most important thing to study, being that the international
system is anarchic(Haupt, 2017, T2L1, 8). Neorealists have a few core assumptions, including:
believing the international system is anarchic, believing states are self interested, and that national
security is the most important issue concerning states (Haupt, 2017, T2L1, 8 9). Many, such as John
Mearsheimer, mentioned later, use these assumptions to predict what future relations between states,
such as China and the U.S. are going to be. As mentioned before, neorealism derived from the theory
of classical realism, and though it had evolved over time, power plays the most important role in both
classical and neo realism. Neorealism holds the principle that states must look after only themselves
because the international system is anarchic. These theories come to this conclusion because, as
quoted in Essentials of International Politics, no higher power exists to defeat the

Examples Of Sacrifice In The Veldt
People can make sacrifices in many different ways. Sometimes, sacrifices aren t intentional or bring
unwanted consequences. Although each of these sacrifices are different, whether it s a sacrifice of a
relationship, a character s faith, or the more literal sacrifice of a person, in each case the sacrifice gets
more than it gives. The Veldt by Ray Bradbury is a book set in the future, in which your house can
virtually take care of your family by itself. This ultimately made the kids in the story, Peter and
Wendy, replace their parents with the nursery, making it far more important than their real parents.
This caused the kids to despise their parents. When George and Lydia went into the room, they

belief to read some book. In a sense, the lottery was an accidental sacrifice as well. Sacrifices can be

relationships or beliefs. Regardless of how life is, people will have to make sacrifices or will make
them accidently. Sometimes, people are not sure how to deal with making these sacrifices. These short

Methodology of Report
The following report was derived from the primary use of secondary sources, in addition to telephone
contact with hotel representatives. Secondary sources included research from the Internet, industry
books, company marketing communications, trade and general business newspapers and magazines,
among others. Through all the sources, relevant data and information was extracted into the report s
appendices. After individual analysis and group discussion, the following report was devised. The
mandate of this report is to provide a macro examination of the luxury hotel industry and specifically

Growing at an annual rate of approximately 2 3%, the industry is divided into four tiers, consisting of
budget/economy, mid scale, first class and luxury. Though there are countless hotels around the globe,
the major players in the industry are the 10 12 parent companies that operate a chain of hotels, often
with brands that are spread across the four tiers. In addition to international players, each tier also
contains an abundance of smaller hotels that competes in its respective tier .
Within the luxury tier, many of the players do not actually own the hotels themselves, but instead
manage the operation of the business, similar to that of FSH. In the luxury segment, competition for
acquiring new management agreements becomes very high as hotel owners make their choices based
on the quality and value of a company s management service and most importantly, its brand name.
Moreover, guests who choose to stay in luxury hotels are commonly not very price sensitive, and thus
it is essential that a hotel distinguish itself amongst its competition by providing value added services
as well as maintaining an untarnished, reputable brand name and image.
To remain profitable, hotels must operate with around 65 70% capacity . Due to seasonality, political
and economic events, some hotels are finding it difficult to maintain profitable occupancy levels and
have started to provide services along multiple levels within the industry s

No Reason to Ban Lady Chatterley s Lover by DH Lawrence Essay
Lady Chatterley s Lover, written by DH. Lawrence was first published in 1928. The novel follows
around the protagonist of the story, Lady Constance Chatterley. The story is about how this woman,
who is trapped in a loveless and almost sterile marriage, finds emotional and physical love with the
gameskeeper of her husband s estate. As a story about the relationships between men and women, I
find this book a very nice read, but with Lawrence also using this novel as a way to show his readers
the evils of machines and capitalism, at times I find it lacking. Lawrence has two main themes in this
book; first, the relationship between men, women and how they find love; second, industry vs. nature.
... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The idea of complete love is shown through Lady Connie and Mellors relationship. Lawrence shows
through these two how love needs to have emotional and physical aspects to be possible. Writing
about their evolving relationship and showing how both aspects are started and evolve, he gives us the
idea of what he thinks real love is. Lawrence shows how their true love and eventual marriage escapes
class lines and the industrial world the author despises. In one of the more descriptive sex scenes,
Lawrence wants to show that two people who are in real love have no shame. This theme is also used
to try and validate Lawrence s second theme in the book, industry vs. nature. Lady Chatterley s
marriage with Clifford is based in the industrial setting of Wragby mansion. The marriage between
these two characters revolves around this setting and is therefore shown by Lawrence to be a fake
marriage since it is not set in a true natural setting. It is based in an industrial society and therefore
corrupt. On the other side, Lady Connie s relationship with the gameskeeper, Mellors, is started in the
natural setting of the woods surrounding Wragby. As the story ends there is a hope that these two will
be married and it will be a true marriage because it has both the emotional and physical aspects

The Woman Warrior Summary
In Maxine Hong Kingston s The Woman Warrior , in chapter 2 White Tigers Kingston says that
Chinese immigrants say things such as better to raise geese than girls . They also say Chinese
executed women who disguised themselves as soldiers or students, no matter how bravely they fought
or how high they scored on the examinations . I argue that in doing this, the texts suggest shockingly,
that Chinese immigrants continue to treat woman as if they are worthless, which is why Maxine Hong
Kingston compares herself to Mulan. She just wants to honor her family and feel accepted. Kingston
wants to honor her family once and for all. In order to do so, Kingston completes fifteen years of
training. At the age of fourteen she wants to save her Brother and Husband but her mentors tell
Kingston she is not ready to fight, that she is too young. What was so intriguing about this situation
was when Kingston said When I could point at the sky and make a sword appear, a silver bolt in the
sunlight, and control its slashing with my mind, the old people said I was ready to leave . This shows
that the sword flying in the air represents Chinese culture. Kingston then continues to say I saw the
baron s messenger leave our house, and my father was saying, This time I must go and fight , taking
her father s place. Kingston then pretends to be a man, becoming a great warrior, wearing male armor
and commanding men who fight under her. What was most shocking

A Brief Note On Landfill With Electricity Recovery
3.3.2. Landfill with Electricity recovery
Landfilling with electricity recovery used in this study is a typical MSW landfill with surface and
basic sealing, site operations including landfill gas treatment, sludge treatment, leachate treatment and
deposition, and meeting European limits for emissions. The inventory data are taken from the GaBi
database (GaBi, 2015). 28% of the landfill gas is assumed to be used for electricity production while
22% of it is assumed to be flared and the rest (50%) emitted to the environment. The energy and
manufacturing processes of the sealing materials requirements for the site, are included within the
system.
3.3.3. Incineration
The Incinerator used in this study is an MSW incinerator with Moving grate combined heat and power
incinerator used in Europe and UK in particular. The inventory data used are taken from the GaBi
database (GaBi, 2015). And the control of emissions is done using wet and dry flue gas treatment by
injecting hydrated lime, urea and activated carbon into the flue gases with filter bags for particulate
removal. Ferrous metals (Fe, Cu, Al etc.) are recovered, which 60% of the produced bottom ash after
metal recovery and ageing is reused as construction material (and will leave the system as bottom ash
for reuse). The remaining 40% are disposed on a landfill (GaBi, 2015)). The credits for the electricity,

King Lear Reversal
All the above reversals or incongruities are to be present, in a lesser or more degree, in King Lear. To
begin with, the reversal of hierarchies strikes us first and foremost in the very opening of the play:
here one is met with an earlier sign of authority being loosened, when the king decides to divide his
own kingdom:
Meantime , we shall express our darker purpose― Give me the map there. Know that we have divided
In three our kingdom; and tis our fast intent To take all cares and business from our age, Conforring
them on younger strengths, while me Unburden d crawl toward death. (I. i. 35−40)
The reversal of roles starts right from this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
And this is, in keeping with the poetics of grotesque realism, taken to be degradation conceived here
in terms of the Bakhtinian conception of the movement of the cosmic carnivaleque cartwheel. Hence,
Lear desires to divide his kingdom so that he Unburdened crawl[s] toward death (I. i. 40), which is so
central to Ronald Knowles s notion of the carnivalesque degradation as this implies going down to
earth, the grave, the womb.12 But Lear s degradation or crawling back again to the womb does not
necessarily mean that he is giving up the masculine monarch he is. Much to the contrary, degradation
here means for him digging a bodily grave for a new birth. 13 His wish to be mothered by the three of
his daughters is clearly shown in his selfish need to enjoy the parade of love he expects his daughters
to perform. Again Knight has this to say about this

rental. Yes, I am saying that my entire week long Las Vegas vacation was actually free since I had a
free flight (see my next article on Frequent Flyer Clubs). Actually I won money playing Texas Hold
em poker and came away with a profit even after a small slot machine loss by my wife. The next two
years I went to the Hilton less since I had retired, but used the Hilton American Express more. I even
charged $3,500 of my new car cost giving me over 10,000 points alone. I made $450, and $500 in
gambling the next two years. The year after that we stayed at the New Niagara Falls Hilton in a luxury
suite overlooking The Falls. This was the most amazing suite I ever stayed in with every amenity
possible. The linens themselves must have cost the Hotel a fortune and so did our two HD large screen
TV s. At least once in your life you have to have this experience. All this for free, nada, zip dollars just
by smartly using a free club membership and free credit card. You need not stay in the Hilton Hotel
even once, just use the credit card or you can join some competing hotels club plan if you want. If you
do this you will thank me for this great information. Enjoy yourselves.

The Hrossa Analysis
After Ransom s escape, he finds this utopian world that he becomes very fond of later on. His courage
is shown throughout the book such as fighting with the sea monster. Luckily, the local Martians took
him in and showed the extraordinary outside of their tranquil, idealistic ways of living. They are
fundamentally as amazed to have a guest from Earth as Ransom is amazed to be their visitor. To them,
Earth is a quiet planet. A simple world with no strange association with whatever remains of the
universe. The Hrossa are portrayed as hunters and human like creatures in the book. They are really
close to nature and show many interest in music and poetry. The pale textured animals to some degree

Is The Meaning Of St Victor s Definition Of A Sacrament
Hugh of St. Victor s Definition of a Sacrament The definition of what a sacrament is has been debated
over the centuries. One such definition comes from Hugh of St. Victor, who piggybacked off of
Augustine of Hippo s definition. Hugh s definition is much more clear cut on the parameters of the
definition: it must include a physical element, it must bear a likeness to what it signifies, there must be
a good reason for it to represent a spiritual reality, and it must be capable of bestowing the benefits
that it signifies to the person. Later, Peter Lombard created his own definition and got rid of the
physical requirement. This definition falls in line with the Catholic Church s definition of a sacrament,
while the Protestant Church only accept the baptism and the eucharist. ... Show more content on

The Squeaky Horn is a musical instrument repair store which specialized in all major and minor
repairs for band and orchestra instruments. Over the past ten year, The Squeaky Horn has established a
great customer relationship with the music professionals from all over the country, and has been
operated in a relatively less competitive environment as there were no many similar stores in the town.
However, as the new store Best Instrument Repair opened across the town recently, the Squeaky Horn

Unless the price of music instruments become so cheap that an average music player can offer to pay a

popular that the selling price of the instrument are enough for getting a new one, people will stick on
instrument repair.
If comparing The Squeaky Horn s operating result with the maintenance and repair industry s average
(Appendix 7), we will find that The Squeaky Horn s actual revenue of $664,170 is almost as twice as
much of the industry average of $334,900. However, the total actual expense is $354,070 higher
(calculation is provided at the end of Appendix 7), which results the overall profit fall below the
industry average of $28,100 in 2008. Therefore, The Squeaky Horn is an absolute industry leader in
revenue sector, but did not do well in maintaining high profitability through expenditure control.

The Authoritative Parenting And The Style Of The Parenting...
The parenting style that my parents use is definitely authoritative. My parents have shown authority
towards me and my siblings but have always been flexible with their rules. My parents have never
stressed us out by being too strict with their rules. The first question I asked my parents was, how
would you react if one of my siblings or I asked to come home later than you originally told us to
come home? My parents responded that they would ask why we want to come home later and then tell
them they can come home later at a certain time but no later than the extended time. This fits exactly
with the authoritative parenting style because my parents would extend the time which is being
flexible and then also they would enforce a new time for us to come home which shows authority.
Next I asked my parents, what would you do if one of my siblings or I got in trouble at school? My
parents said they would have a talk with whoever got in trouble and make sure they know not to ever
do it again. Also, my parents said they would discipline whoever got in trouble by doing more chores
or taking away their phone for a day. This fits with the authoritative parenting style as well because
my parents are making us understand what we did wrong and learn from it. They would also give a
consequence because of it but nothing that is too harsh because they trust us to learn from what we
did. After that, I asked my parents, what would your reaction be if I did not do my chores at the
house?

One of the critical problems confronting management and the board of Pioneer Petroleum Corporation

with a positive net present value when discounted at the appropriate cost of capital. At issue was how
the appropriate discount rate would be determined. The company was weighing two alternative
approaches for determining a minimum rate of return: (1) a single cutoff rate based on the company s

Literature Review Theoretical Framework
An Overview:
The literature that I have been gathering and going through since last few weeks, have just mounted
the evidence that Positionality is interpreted uniquely by the diverse group of people.
Positionality always existed; it s only that people have become more responsive to it now.
Every person is unknowingly or knowingly positioning himself in the mind of the other. This can
occur when a person is in the company of his colleagues, his friends, relatives, or even in his own
house! This impact or the impression as we call it casually can be through very subtle signs of the
person s expressions and responses to some particular views, ideas or opinions. Even a person s
appearance through the way he presents himself, contributes enormously in constructing an image or a
position of that particular person in the mind of the other.
Looking at a wider perspective, ones own positionality can prove to be a big hurdle in his/her life.
Positionality stops a person from being creative or thinking outside the box. It makes a person very
rigid very confound. And this in itself is a barrier to your success.
Corporates today are constantly under pressure. The pressure of giving the right

We all have friends that we would give up everything to save or be with. In Pretties, by Scott

Westerfeld(the first book of the series) Tally has to sacrifice her life in order to turn pretty to be with
Peris, her old friend from Uglyville who turned pretty before her. Both of these stories are teaching us
to sacrifice our lives for our friends, but the author teaches this in different ways.
In the first book of the series, Uglies, Tally has always wanted to become pretty and be with Peris, but

In this novel, Miss Harriet has an affair with Tomas Arroyo to save the old gringo #8217;s life.
Supposedly, Arroyo claimed that he would kill the gringo unless she slept with him. At the end of the
story, Harriet despises Tomas Arroyo for everything he does and learns to love the old gringo as a
father. The old gringo is a very mysterious, adventure and death seeking character. He comes to
Mexico in search of death, hoping that he could just die in the battlefield. We learn that he had his own
family, but all were dead or wanted nothing to do with him. He was a bitter American journalist who
had made an abrupt break with his past and is riding into Mexico to join Pancho Villa #8217;s
revolutionary army. Clues suggest that if this man were ever named he would prove to be Ambrose
Bierce, an American journalist, who vanished from the United States into Mexico during 1913. In the
end of this story, he is killed by Tomas Arroyo and is taken back into the U.S. to be buried in Miss

The Toothpaste Factory Got The Top People
Dedication To my parents, who gave me life and taught me the meaning of it. Both by accident.
Introduction Once upon a time, a toothpaste factory had a problem. They sometimes shipped empty
boxes without the tube inside. This was caused by the way the production line was set up, and people
with experience in designing production lines will tell you how difficult it is to have everything
happen with timings so precise that every single unit coming out of it is perfect 100% of the time.
Small variations in the environment (which can t be controlled in a cost effective fashion) mean you
must have quality assurance checks smartly distributed across the line so customers all the way down
to the supermarket don t get angry and buy another product instead. Understanding how important that
was, the CEO of the toothpaste factory got the top people in the company together and they decided to
start a new project in which they would hire an external engineering company to solve their empty
boxes problem since their engineering department was already too stretched to take on any extra
effort. The project followed the usual process: budget and project sponsor allocated, RFP and third
parties selected. Six months (and $8 million) later, they had a fantastic solution on time, on budget,
high quality and everyone in the project had a great time. They solved the problem by using high tech
precision scales that would sound a bell and flash lights whenever a toothpaste box would weigh less

In fact this is probably the number one thing that dicourages musiccians when they are first starting
out. All of us have heard about bands making a huge profit off a record deal that they singed with.
Unforunately this is not the case for most of us. Pretty much all recording company have a contract of
some sort. As little as 14% of those rolaities actual make it back to the artist (Yeh;). Even after all
those deductions the artist still owes a recording fee which takes more away forom that 14% leaving a
vey little profit to be made. Cohen thinks you can avoid the major record labels by recording your own
music, but even indie music has had struggles recently. A well know indie musician Cat Power who
had a top selling album in 2013 recently had to drop out of the sence because aof going brankrupt. It s
no shock to learn that musicians lead financially precarious lives, but the thought of an artist as big as
Cat Power going broke is particularly disheartening (Wagner). Tomkiel argues against this in that is
not impossible to make a good living in music you just have to really know the industry inside and out
and figure out ways of doing things that have a different approach from what others are doing.

A Brief Look at Playing Tennis
CHAPTER 1
INTRODUCTION
1.1 Introduction
In affluent society, playing tennis is a sport which requires high endurance, patience and full physical
strength s activity. Besides, it also requires equipment which is the tennis racquet. In the early century,
most of the tennis racquets were made of laminated wood, with heads of around 65 in sq. [1] At that
time, most of the tennis players have faced a problem during playing the tennis as the wooden
racquets seem quite obsolete or perhaps even inadequate. In details, it is too far and too slow, weak, or
heavy for professional tennis players who increasingly measure from the length that much higher
about six feet. [1] Figure 1.1.1: Wooden tennis racquet
In the late 1960s, T2000 steel tennis racquets were produced in which featured a wire wound around
the frame to make string loops. [2] The steel tennis racquets were started to replace the wooden tennis
racquets in order to solve the heavy and weak problems that caused by wooden tennis racquets as steel
is stronger and lighter than wood. Although the steel tennis racquets is better than the wood racquet,
the tennis players still faced a problem in terms of swing strength. Figure 1.1.2: Steel tennis racquet
When the tennis racquet technologies came in 1975, an aluminium racket was introduced. This
material was lighter than steel and allowed the construction of oversized tennis rackets. At that
moment, the players could hit with more spin on the ball with 100+ in sq head sizes.

Dickenson writes manic and depressive extremes beyond anything I ve ever read, lyrically,
memorably, formally, reaching some of the highest highs and the lowest lows. She spend most of her
life secluded from the world, she wrote hundreds of poems and was able to capture extreme emotional
states in some of her greatest works. Dickinson used her poetry as a method of communicating her
emotional distress or happiness. Some of poetry speaks of death and morality, which would clearly
point to a state of depression. When Dickenson was 53 she wrote, The Physician says I have nervous
prostration, but I do not know the name of this sickness. Nervous prostration, at that time, was
identified as an illness characterized by anxiety and depression. In addition, her illness may have been
the end result of earlier documented panic attacks and agoraphobia. She used her writings as a way to
express how she was feeling and what she experienced. I believe she use her poem to describe her
experiences of this disorder, and what it does to

another comes to life. It is just a cycle that never has an ending. As for the whole poem, the meaning is
about how death is an enormous factor in the world that our own selves live in. It has an extensive role
as every single one of us going to perish at some point, but there is always someone new that will
replace us when we re gone. It shows how nature is with a non ending cycle, which keeps our life
ways to continue for bounteous years to come. The poem has a nice but also a mournful meaning to it.
Our way in which us life organisms live as death being an immense factor, having a great deal of a
sentimental value. Ultimately, each person only has one life, they decide what they accomplish with it
along with forming the best of it. This is the basic meaning of what the poem is, how death is a
massive factor in our world which we live

Spring quarter of 2014
Introduction
This paper seeks to discuss the leadership styles of two Lieutenant Colonels (Lt.Col.) in the Israeli
during a mass evacuation from the Gaza strip. The circumstances of the evacuation are that the Israeli
government decided that all settlements in the area surrounding the Gaza Strip would be abandoned,
against the wishes of the settlers some of whom had been living there for over twenty years. In
addition to the leadership styles topics of discussion will include three examples of leadership actions
and behavior and the pros and cons of each example. A comparison and contrast ... Show more content

Either because they were not convinced that the evacuation was a crucial mission or simply because
they did not want to detract from their ongoing operations by spending energy on it. (Laufer) Though
he was disappointed in what he found he devised a plan to get the personnel he needed. First he
instructed his team leaders to identify those least suitable for the mission, second he asked all of the
feeder units for highly qualified troops which was met with resistance and lastly he went to his
superior and advised him that Without the personal involvement and commitment to the mission on
the part of the commanders of the dispatching units, we have no chance of succeeding. (Laufer) The
pros of each example are that Lt. Col. Yaron made critical decisions that ultimately led to the
successful evacuation of the Gaza Strip. Whenever he was meet with resistance he handled the matter
diplomatically by first trying to allow the resistors to adjust their attitudes via face to face
communication and finally by getting higher ups support. The cons of each example are if he had of
used a more direct leadership approach such as being Autocratic he may have gotten the staff and peer
support from the onset at the expense of teamwork.
Leadership Lieutenant Colonel Daniel.
Lt. Col Daniel s leadership style can be described as Bottom Up Consultative, which is he obtains

The Rashomon
The film that was screened in class was titled the Rashomon and was directed by Akira Kurosawa. At
the beginning of the film, it opens up on a priest and woodcutter sitting underneath a gate. A guy by
the name of Kichijiro joins the priest and woodcutter and they begin discussing a murder that took
place a few days ago. Then towards the middle of the film it transitions to four conflicting stories of
what happened on the day of the murder. The first story is the wife of the samuri who died. The
second story is the sumari story who died but tells his story through a medium. Finally, the last story
was told by the woodcutter. In the end, all three stories were different, it stops raining and the
woodcutter walks away with a baby left behind.

The British Renaissance Produced Many Types of Literature...
The British Renaissance Produced Many Types of Literature and Was Influenced By
Shakespeare, Marlow, and Spenser
The British Renaissance produced many types of literature for the world to see. Shakespeare, Spenser,
and Marlowe all contributed to the shaping of the time period. Christopher Marlowe s quot; The
Passionate Shepherd to His Love quot; portrays one of the typical love poems that can be seen from
the Renaissance. A man is in search of the love of another girl, or woman. Sir Walter Raleigh wrote a
poem in response to this passage of Marlowe s entitled quot; The Nymph s
Reply to the Shepherd. quot; Although the name of the girl is not stated anywhere in the former poem,
Raleigh decided to use a wood nymph as his subject. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
His age also brings up another very interesting view of Marlowe s. In the poem, Marlowe expresses
the idea that age has no influence upon love and a person s feelings.
The shallow rivers, waterfalls, birds singing, and flowers all personify the
Shepherd s feeling that age has nothing to do with love and his hopes of winning the younger girl s
heart. The scene that is created is highly discernible as
Spring, the time of year associated with love and light heartedness. The allusions to these things also
demonstrates the Shepherd s hollow sense of hope.
The Shepherd tries to lure the girl by offering her everything in the world.
This materialism clearly shows that Marlowe believes that only fancy trinkets and beautiful
possessions will win the heart of a girl. In virtually every stanza, there is a reference to a nicety that
the Shepherd offers the girl in pursuitof her love.
A belt of straw and ivy buds,
With coral clasps and amber studs;
Christopher Marlowe s Shepherd clearly believes that the only surefire way of attaining love would be
to offer as much as you can and lure your subject into a false sense of being loved by giving her (or
him) the world.
The world means nothing to Sir Walter Raleigh s Nymph, the girl Raleigh presumes to be the object of
the Shepherd s pleas, in his poem entitled quot; The
Nymph s Reply to the Shepherd quot; in direct response to Christopher Marlowe. The beautiful forest
creature is young compared to the elderly

Tourette Syndrome Essays
Tourette Syndrome
Tourette syndrome is an inherited severe neurological disorder usually occurring before the age of
eighteen and is associated with a degree of facial and body tics sometimes accompanied by random
declarations of phrases or obscenities (2,3). The facial and body tics associated with the disorder can
be painful and even embarrassing. Involuntary body movements such as jaw snapping, gyrating,
hopping, and obscene gesturing are to name a few (1). Tourette Syndrome was named after a French
neuropsychiatrist named Gilles de la Tourette who successfully assessed the disorder in the late 1800
s(3). Tourette Syndrome claims no specific race or ethnicity. The disorder generally can affect any
ethnic group yet it does ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Associated with the motor tics experienced by the patient are sometimes more self destructive
behavior such as head banging, eye poking, and lip biting (1). There have also been cases of various
learning disabilities connected with Tourette Syndrome such as dyslexia (4).
Vocal tic behavior in patients diagnosed with Tourette Syndrome include outbursts of meaningless
words or phrases. The vocal tics disrupt the regular flow of speech and cause the patient to stammer or
stutter (1). Inappropriate outbursts called coprolalia are considered involuntary. Coprolalia may also
take place in this display of vocal tic disorder. However, coprolalia only takes place in a small number
of Tourette Syndrome sufferer s (1).
Each individual suffering from Tourette Syndrome should be evaluated as such. Certain manifestations
of Tourette Syndrome may disable one in certain parts of their life such as in their school performance,
while it may affect another s personality or psyche (3). It may affect a totally different behavioral
dimension in one s life than that of another diagnosed with Tourette Syndrome.
Although research on Tourette Syndrome is ongoing, it is believed that the disorder is

  • 2. Cambridge Financial Case There were a few key issues with this case. First, the issues with what Roger did. Although minimal, Roger did not follow up with Steve. SP was in dire need of funding, every second counted. Cambridge s team had completed their required research three weeks ago, yet Roger did not call SPs only prospective investor to touch base. Secondly, once Roger did speak with Steve at Cambridge, he misrepresented SP, by agreeing to an offer to sell controlling ownership of SP to Cambridge. ( fraud___internal_audit_iia_6sep2012, n.d.) Roger misrepresented SP since he did not discuss Steve s offer of purchasing ownership with the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) or the Audit committee. Roger agreeing to Steve s terms meant that the Cambridge offer would go ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When Beth initially suspected that something was not right about the purchase of the Dugas stock, she should have acted. Instead of Beth reporting to Roger, who was the CFO and her immediate boss, Beth should have reported her suspicions to the audit committee prior to investigating further with Roger. This is important because Beth needs to be able to be independent from anyone who directly affects the daily work functions. ( Should Internal Auditor Report to the CFO?, n.d.). Another key issue was that Beth felt that Roger behaved ethically. It is concerning because she is an internal auditor and should be able to maintain objectivity. Her actions should not be based on how she feels. The last key issue with Beth was that she decided to wait two months before acting on her findings. Empathetically speaking, Beth s ethical dilemma was huge. Does she go to the audit committee since her immediate boss/CFO risked all of SPs funds to purchase stock based off privileged information, that Cambridge would invest in Dugas, one day prior to the public announcement. Should she consider the fact that by purchasing the stock, the CFO essentially saved her job as well as allowing the drug to be affordable which would in turn potentially aid in saving others from leukemia? I do understand Beth s concerns. However, It is of my opinion that Beth did not act ethically, in this case. Aside from the fact that it took her two months to decide, her end decision was based off the concern for legal ramifications. Beth s basis for concern was focused on what she could be held accountable. She felt that what Roger did was ethical, which essentially blinded her ability to make decisions. Beth should have handled her discovery in a different way. Instead of Beth confronting Roger, she should have brought her suspicions to the audit committee. From here, they could have come up with an investigation plan. The investigation ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Emergency department overcrowding refers to an excess of patients in the treatment areas exceeding ED capacity. According to the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO), over one half of all sentinel event cases of morbidity and mortality resulting from delays in treatment occur in hospital emergency departments. Emergency department overcrowding has been cited as a contributing factor in 31% of these sentinel event cases. (Trzeciak Rivers, 2003). Consequently, overcrowding affects persons who suffer an unexpected severe illness or injury requiring time sensitive emergency treatment. Therefore, patients must ... The respondents stated the system was simple to use, reduced the subjectivity of the triage decision and was more accurate than other triage systems (Singer, Infante, Oppenheimer, West Siegel, 2012). The rapid identification of patients that need immediate attention is one of the benefits of the emergency severity index. The system focuses on the fast and accurate sorting of patients in cases where there is shortage of adequate resources for treatment of emergency patients. The emergency severity index (ESI) uses a five level categorization process that is used to rapidly sort emergency patients into five groups that are based on clinically meaningful differences and projected resource needs available. Another positive outcome of the emergency severity index is the improved flow of patients through the emergency department as patients categorized as level one and two can be immediately taken to the treatment area for rapid evaluation and treatment. Patients determined by the triage nurse to be lower acuity can safely wait to be attended to after the higher acuity level patients are cared for. • 5. A Little Brief Background On The Family Farm By Sylvia... Sylvia Bojcvuk, born to Alexander and Albina Bojcvuk on their family farm on January 19th, 1928 in Ukraine. Little did this young baby girl know she was about to endure a tragic, yet adventurous life that would impact generations. A little brief background on Ukraine at the time of Sylvia s youth in 1941 Germany and Romania invaded Ukraine changing the country to Romania, then 1944 Soviet soldier s invaded naming it back to Ukraine, which seems to come full circle to today with the constant battle of Russia attempting to merge Ukraine into Russia for good. Unfortunately, Soviet soldiers have a dark history of raping many of the young girls when they invaded Ukraine in 1944. Sylvia was sixteen at the time and her mother and father hid her in their local farm, this constant hiding lead to Albina decided they could no longer remain in Ukraine, which is the beginning of Sylvia Bojcvuk s pilgrimage to a better life. The Bojcvuk family began by taking a train out of Ukraine, hoping to go South where both Sylvia s older brother and sister currently resided, but the Soviet soldiers were blocking passage to the South so they had to go west, leaving behind Sylvia s brother, Adolf, and sister, Eleanor. Unfortunately, Sylvia was never again reunited with her siblings. Adolf Bojcvuk later died of brain cancer in the 1980 s, and Eleanor Bojcvuk resides in Romania today in her ninety s. • 7. Human Struggle In The Tokyo Story In Ozu s film, the Tokyo Story, has many scenes that define the human struggle, such as the struggle to make a living, aging and death of loved ones, and the way children eventually fall apart from their parents when they get older. The one human struggle from Ozu s film that influenced the most empathy is the inevitable truth of life that the struggle for survival in society eventually drifts individuals apart such as parents and they re children when they begin to live independently and become to take care for only themselves because of their daily busy lives. From this film, Ozu introduces a few scenes to compare the similarities of different generations in the relationship between children and parents. The first scene that begins this comparison is when Koichi s son, Minoru, had high hopes of going sightseeing with his parents and grandparents, but when suddenly Koichi had to go see his sick patient and the plans got cancelled, Minoru was very disappointed and angry with his parents because he mentions that they always say they will go next time, but they never seem to keep their words. Ozu includes this scene to show how often parents never seem to keep their promises with their children because they re constantly busy with their own things and not have enough free time to spend time with them. It s just like in reality where parents that struggle financially tend to spend more time at work than at home, thus they never seem to have the time or use their precious time to take their children out because it always involves money. We can understand from both sides of perspective, as the parent and as the child. Many of us as a child have surely experienced the samething atleast one time in our life when our parents never kept they re words and seemed too busy to play with us. Corporations That Influence Public Art Museum Corporations and Their Influence in Support for Public Art Museums Statement of Intent Historically, museums have relied on four sources of financial support: individual contributions, corporate and foundation support, earned revenues, and government grants. This paper focuses on present day corporate support for art and the museums that collect and display that art. It urges museums to reassess their assumptions about corporations and suggests ways that museums can develop new approaches to align their solicitation of support with changing corporate objectives. Museums must position their brand to corporations as places of value, enhancement and richness to local communities. Corporations need to reevaluate museums as a pillar for support on par with any other social cause, with value for society at large. With better understanding of the overlap of objectives both corporations and arts organizations share, public museums can offer creative, outside the box thinking in seeking corporate support. Museum development professionals can better understand the value to not only maintain existing resources, but ways to seek new partners through innovative corporate engagement by aligning museum programming and values with the increasingly social and environmental causes corporations have come to identify. By observing trends in federal and corporate funding for the arts and funding shifts, this capstone will explore why corporations who currently support public art do so through funding and art collections, and their increasing needs for employee engagement. One of the most significant and critical changes was the Industrial Revolution of Great Britain. Characterized by the development of new manufacturing processes, the Industrial Revolution was a period between the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries that spurred extensive changes in almost every aspect of society. These changes stimulated a major transformation in the way of life and created a modern urban society based on industrial manufacturing and not agricultural production. The Industrial Revolution debuted in England because of changes in the textile industry and agriculture leading to a more stable economic platform, an ever increasing demand for coal, and international success in the trading market, resulting in the development and improvement of daily ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Initially, charcoal and wood were used a fuel source, but as those resources became scarce, coal became a necessity. As shown in Document 1, England was fortunate enough to have a readily available coal supply that other countries in Europe were not able to have. As England became industrialized, more coal was needed to fuel steam engines and furnaces. The development of factories and the improvement of the steam engine also increased the demand for coal. As a result, coal mines that were once mined at the surface, now got deeper and deeper, and there was too much water to safely get more coal. When the Newcomen engine was put into use at the coal mines, coal was put into the steam engine to pump more coal out. Similarly almost every other piece of technology in that time period used coal as the main fuel source so the need for coal skyrocketed. Document 4 explains how England had the natural conditions necessary to succeed such as coal, which is a major reason the Industrial Revolution started in England and not in any other ... • 11. Classical Realism Vs Neorealism Throughout the course of history, it had become customary to assume that a state that is fearful of others and works only to help and protect itself, is the unparalleled genius; this notion is the basis for the political theory of realism. Neorealism, developed sometime after World War II, is a reinterpretation of classical realism, which was originally developed in Ancient Greece(M AT 2017, 80). Kenneth Waltz, whose work helped the transition from realism to neorealism, believed that the structure of the international system was the most important thing to study, being that the international system is anarchic(Haupt, 2017, T2L1, 8). Neorealists have a few core assumptions, including: believing the international system is anarchic, believing states are self interested, and that national security is the most important issue concerning states (Haupt, 2017, T2L1, 8 9). Many, such as John Mearsheimer, mentioned later, use these assumptions to predict what future relations between states, such as China and the U.S. are going to be. As mentioned before, neorealism derived from the theory of classical realism, and though it had evolved over time, power plays the most important role in both classical and neo realism. Neorealism holds the principle that states must look after only themselves because the international system is anarchic. These theories come to this conclusion because, as quoted in Essentials of International Politics, no higher power exists to defeat the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 17. No Reason to Ban Lady Chatterley s Lover by DH Lawrence Essay Lady Chatterley s Lover, written by DH. Lawrence was first published in 1928. The novel follows around the protagonist of the story, Lady Constance Chatterley. The story is about how this woman, who is trapped in a loveless and almost sterile marriage, finds emotional and physical love with the gameskeeper of her husband s estate. As a story about the relationships between men and women, I find this book a very nice read, but with Lawrence also using this novel as a way to show his readers the evils of machines and capitalism, at times I find it lacking. Lawrence has two main themes in this book; first, the relationship between men, women and how they find love; second, industry vs. nature. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The idea of complete love is shown through Lady Connie and Mellors relationship. Lawrence shows through these two how love needs to have emotional and physical aspects to be possible. Writing about their evolving relationship and showing how both aspects are started and evolve, he gives us the idea of what he thinks real love is. Lawrence shows how their true love and eventual marriage escapes class lines and the industrial world the author despises. In one of the more descriptive sex scenes, Lawrence wants to show that two people who are in real love have no shame. This theme is also used to try and validate Lawrence s second theme in the book, industry vs. nature. Lady Chatterley s marriage with Clifford is based in the industrial setting of Wragby mansion. The marriage between these two characters revolves around this setting and is therefore shown by Lawrence to be a fake marriage since it is not set in a true natural setting. It is based in an industrial society and therefore corrupt. On the other side, Lady Connie s relationship with the gameskeeper, Mellors, is started in the natural setting of the woods surrounding Wragby. My parents responded that they would ask why we want to come home later and then tell them they can come home later at a certain time but no later than the extended time. • 32. The Toothpaste Factory Got The Top People Dedication To my parents, who gave me life and taught me the meaning of it. Both by accident. Introduction Once upon a time, a toothpaste factory had a problem. They sometimes shipped empty boxes without the tube inside. This was caused by the way the production line was set up, and people with experience in designing production lines will tell you how difficult it is to have everything happen with timings so precise that every single unit coming out of it is perfect 100% of the time. Small variations in the environment (which can t be controlled in a cost effective fashion) mean you must have quality assurance checks smartly distributed across the line so customers all the way down to the supermarket don t get angry and buy another product instead. Understanding how important that was, the CEO of the toothpaste factory got the top people in the company together and they decided to start a new project in which they would hire an external engineering company to solve their empty boxes problem since their engineering department was already too stretched to take on any extra effort. The project followed the usual process: budget and project sponsor allocated, RFP and third parties selected. Six months (and $8 million) later, they had a fantastic solution on time, on budget, high quality and everyone in the project had a great time. They solved the problem by using high tech precision scales that would sound a bell and flash lights whenever a toothpaste box would weigh less ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A Brief Look at Playing Tennis CHAPTER 1 INTRODUCTION 1.1 Introduction In affluent society, playing tennis is a sport which requires high endurance, patience and full physical strength s activity. In details, it is too far and too slow, weak, or heavy for professional tennis players who increasingly measure from the length that much higher about six feet. [1] Figure 1.1.1: Wooden tennis racquet In the late 1960s, T2000 steel tennis racquets were produced in which featured a wire wound around the frame to make string loops. Although the steel tennis racquets is better than the wood racquet, the tennis players still faced a problem in terms of swing strength. Dickinson used her poetry as a method of communicating her emotional distress or happiness. Some of poetry speaks of death and morality, which would clearly point to a state of depression. Nervous prostration, at that time, was identified as an illness characterized by anxiety and depression. In the poem, Marlowe expresses the idea that age has no influence upon love and a person s feelings. The shallow rivers, waterfalls, birds singing, and flowers all personify the Shepherd s feeling that age has nothing to do with love and his hopes of winning the younger girl s heart. The scene that is created is highly discernible as Spring, the time of year associated with love and light heartedness. The allusions to these things also demonstrates the Shepherd s hollow sense of hope. The Shepherd tries to lure the girl by offering her everything in the world. This materialism clearly shows that Marlowe believes that only fancy trinkets and beautiful possessions will win the heart of a girl. In virtually every stanza, there is a reference to a nicety that the Shepherd offers the girl in pursuitof her love. A belt of straw and ivy buds, With coral clasps and amber studs; Christopher Marlowe s Shepherd clearly believes that the only surefire way of attaining love would be to offer as much as you can and lure your subject into a false sense of being loved by giving her (or him) the world.
