The Early Stages Of Drug Prohibition
Many currently illegal drugs, such as marijuana, opium, coca, and psychedelics have been used for
thousands of years for both medical and spiritual purposes.
The Early Stages of Drug Prohibition
Why are some drugs legal and other drugs illegal today? It s not based on any scientific assessment of
the relative risks of these drugs but it has everything to do with who is associated with these drugs.
The first anti opium laws in the 1870s were directed at Chinese immigrants. The first anti cocaine
laws, in the South in the early 1900s, were directed at black men. The first anti marijuana laws, in the
Midwest and the Southwest in the 1910s and 20s, were directed at Mexican migrants and Mexican
Americans. Today, Latino and especially black communities ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Rotary Youth Leadership Award (RYLA)
This past summer, I had the opportunity to attend an amazing leadership camp called Rotary Youth
Leadership Award (RYLA). For the whole week, I completed multiple workshops, while making new
and long lasting relationships. As my main workshop, I chose the service workshop; we created three
separate service activities for the entire camp. My group was in charge of the self love activity,
promoting the idea of service while teaching the importance of self worth and acceptance.
As we sat in silence, I decided to break the awkwardness and introduced myself. After learning each
other s names, we began to brainstorm ideas for our project. I started by sharing the vision I had for
our project. I noticed that after I spoke many of the others felt

My Father Is A Hero Or Villain Essay
My Father: Hero or Villain? A stranger once questioned my thirteen year old self, Would you rather
live an easy life or an interesting life? and in the moment without hesitation to think about it, I
responded an easy life. Ever since I was able to realize right from wrong, my immature mind always
struggled understanding why bad things happen to good people and why our world can t be at peace.
Or why must my body react anxiously? Or why my parents are divorced? Now, only God has the
answers to all these questions. However, God simply wants YOU to figure out the obstacles on your
own that appear throughout your growth. As I looked up with my arms wide open asking Uppie
uppie? ..my father says Okay EB, one last time as he picked me up and held me, I noticed his gestures.
Ever since I was young, I ve always had the power of observing and memorizing what surrounded me.
Then, it hit me. The strange characteristics my father held. His aggressive temper, the impatient OCD,
the odd jokes directed at my mother, the constant blaming as if he never made mistakes. Twas the
night time that I dreaded the most. His time to shine . His enjoyment was down in the basement
watching either football or baseball and through the thin walls I could hear that snap of a beer can
opening. Every single night. I was about eleven years old when I finally connected the dots. Those
dots meant everything but also meant nothing. My father is an alcoholic. At this developing age, I

Classroom Philosophy Reflection Paper
Introduction Thinking about how education is taught in schools and all the different pedagogical
practices makes me wonder what these practices are actually fulfilling. There are many different ways
to approach a classroom environment. An individual can look at things from the student s perspective,
the teacher s perspectives, or just the way the classroom functions altogether. I reflect on when I was
in high school and, after learning in detail about all of these pedagogies, I can easily say that the
classrooms I was taught in were combinations of multiple pedagogies. I believe as someone becoming
a teacher we need to refine how the classroom should be run, and what the student and teacher s role
should be. I think we need to shift our focus to an open minded and open environment pedagogy. I
mean this in the sense that the environment should be an open place, a safe haven, the students can
speak their minds and beliefs freely. I myself too many times have been in a classroom where I have
felt restricted, bounded and unable to voice what I believe in because of the way the classroom was
run. Along with this, we need to be open minded in the sense of viewing things from multiple
perspectives and allowing the student to soar beyond the topic that is presented to them. I feel as
though too many teachers close the door to exploring and thinking out of the box in fear of what it
might bring and that I way I believe in an open classroom pedagogy.

The 2016 Presidential Election Cycle
To sum up the 2016 presidential election cycle in one word: anomalous. Unconventional candidates
and unprecedented campaign strategies made for one of the zaniest election years to date. And yet, this
election was not free from the traditional problems regarding voter turnout, which has historically had
a tremendous impact on the results of elections; whichever demographics turn out or fail to on that
fateful Tuesday will determine the winners and the losers. Logically, then, the federal government
should want to give as many people as possible the chance to get to the polls. However, this is simply
not the case. The American Election day falls on a work day, unlike that of many global democratic
counterparts. As such, work obligations frequently prevent a large proportion of Americans from
casting their ballots, thereby potentially skewing the election results, and acting as a form of voter
suppression. Making election day a holiday would prove to be entirely too costly to the economy;
instead, election day should simply fall on a weekend day. This would give more Americans the
opportunity to exercise their democratic rights and therefore result in a more accurate reflection of the
desires of the American people. The first Tuesday following the first Monday of November may seem
like a rather arbitrary date to vote. However, Congress had good reason to declare this date as election
day in 1845. In order to accommodate as many Americans as possible, most of whom lived in

Leonardo Da Vinci And His Contributions To Western...
An Analysis of Leonardo da Vinci and
His Contributions to Western Civilization
Leonardo da Vinci is one of the most famous artists to have ever lived, and his contributions to the
development of western civilization are irrefutable. Born on April 15, 1452, near Florence, Italy, one
would not have guessed that he was destined for a life of greatness. He was the illegitimate child of an
up and coming notary and a peasant girl, and he spent most of his childhood with his doting father (
Da Vinci The Renaissance Man. ). At the age of 15, he became an apprentice in the workshop of
Andrea del Verrochio, where his undeniable talent soon became apparent. He remained an apprentice
until 1477, when he left to explore other opportunities. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He then drew vertical lines and a single horizontal line, known as the horizon line. The vertical lines
connected at the vanishing point, in the center of the horizon, giving the illusion of distance and depth
to the two dimensional canvas. Despite the relative simplicity of the method, the results were
revolutionary at the time ( Linear Perspective ).
Linear perspective was not the only tool that da Vinci employed to better his art; da Vinci s excellent
understanding of human anatomy allowed for more life like and three dimensional figures in his
paintings. It is believed that da Vinci s interest in human anatomy began during his apprenticeship
under Verrochio (Heydenreich). Leonardo expressed a fascination with the skeletal and muscular
structures of the human form, and eventually researched the internal organs as well. Da Vinci even
received permission by the Republic of Florence to dissect corpses for research purposes. He
performed dissections on men, women, and fetuses, racking up a total of about 30 dissections, only
ceasing his studies when the Pope forbade him from continuing. (Heydenreich).
In addition to dissecting cadavers to research the human form and its mechanics, Leonardo da Vinci
sketched his findings and published some of them. The most famous of these sketches is the Vitruvian
Man, which da Vinci drew to show that the human form is proportional in the context of circles and
squares.

Go Set A Watchman Conflict Analysis
A major conflict in Go Set a Watchman is the epiphany/reality check that Jean Louise goes through.
She realizes that Maycomb may be in the same location, but almost everything has changed. My aunt

something s wrong with me, it s something about me. It has to be because all these people cannot have
changed. (167) It may have changed physically or metaphorically for example, the home that she grew

This sense of colorblindness is not entirely true. She makes some racist remarks, thus showing how

America at D-Day Essay
AMERICAAT D DAY: A DAY OF REMEMBRANCE
I am very interested in World War II. So I choose a book that was written about the Normandy
Invasion. More commonly know as D Day or
Deliverance day. The title of the book is America at D Day. It was written by Richard Goldstein. The
book has 287 pages and also has 90 different pictures from the invasion of Normandy. The reason the
author wrote this book was to show exactly what happened at D Day.
The author starts off by describing the preparation for D Day in great detail. The code name given to
the Normandy Invasion was Operation
Overlord. It was planned mainly by General Dwight David Eisenhower.

The Americans were also going to drop their paratroopers behind the
German front lines on the Cherbourg Peninsula.
The American paratroopers were from the 82nd Airborne Division and from the 101st Airborne
Division. The paratroopers were to cut off any supply line to the front lines and prevent any
reinforcements from reaching the beaches of Normandy. The order was given on the night of June 5,
1944 to launch the paratroopers. The paratroopers were sent in first so that they could drop under the
cover of the night. The paratroopers were plagued with cloudy skies and some anti aircraft fire. Some
of the paratroopers were shot down while they dropped from the skies. Most of the paratroopers that
did survive the jump missed their intended drop zones. During the first hours of the assault their was
confusion among the soldiers, but then the troops started to form up into small bands together and
started to complete their missions.
The paratroopers mission was for the most part a success. They gained considerable ground and
destroyed vital supply lines for the Germans.
However, the assault on the beaches were plagued by a lot more problems. The major problem was the
choppy seas and the strong current. It made many of the allied forces land off of target. Even though
they landed off course they were still able come together. The Germans also put many obstacles in the
way of the landing crafts.

Smart Antenna System Essay
INTRODUCTION
1.1 Antenna Systems:
Depending on the number of antennas used in the transmitting and receiving sections, the systems are
divided into 4 types.
1.1.1 SINGLE INPUT SINGLE OUTPUT (SISO): Fig 1.1.1: SISO
In SISO, there will be only single transmitter and a single receiver. This is the general system which
we use. The simplest antenna technology is SISO. In some environments, this system is vulnerable to
problems caused by multipath effects. When an electromagnetic field (EM field) is met with
obstructions such as hills, buildings, utility wires, and canyons the wavefronts are scattered, and thus it
take multi paths to reach the destination. Fading, cut out (cliff effect), and intermittent reception
(picket fencing) are the problems caused by late arrival of scattered portion of signals. In a digital
communications system, it cause a reduction of data speed and number of errors is increased.
In order to eliminate or minimize problems caused by multipath wave propagation, a new technology
has been introduced and it is Smart Antenna Technology. There are three forms of smart antenna,
known as SIMO (single input, multiple output), MISO (multiple input, single output), and MIMO
(multiple input, multiple output).
1.1.2 SINGLE INPUT MULTIPLE OUTPUT (SIMO) : Fig 1.1.2 : SIMO
In SIMO, there will be only single transmitter and many receivers.

Planarian Essay
The planarian is the first organism ever to have a fully productive synaptic nervous system (Mueller
2002). The synaptic nervous system contains nerve cells and it is when a neuron sends a signal, either
electric or chemical, to another neuron and that signal contains information to be passed on or acted
on (Mueller 2002). With the neural genes that are in planaria, they are able to build another fully
function central nervous system, or CNS, without any of the old CNS (Cebria 2002). The CNS of a
planarian is consisted of a brain in the head region and two ventral nerve cords that run down the body
(Cerbria 2002).
The learning process that was used on the planarian in the experiment was classical conditioning.

Stem cells make it possible for regeneration in the planarian and they work by regrowing the cells that
were lost (Showk 2014). Although, regeneration can still be possible if the planarian does not have
their full central nervous system intact (Emeritus 1969). In able for the planarian to regenerate, there
has cells that can duplicate the old tissue and make sure the new tissue is formed right. (Reddien
2004). In a planarian there is a material called blastema and blastema is an important material which
developes cells that are needed in order to have a full healthy organism (Reddien 2004). Blastemas are
able to remake all of the tissues that were lost from an injury but they cannot put them in the correct
place so blastema formation and morphallaxis are needed to fully replace the tissue (Reddien 2004).
Morphallaxis is used to restore the symmetry of the new tissues and it also models how and where the
tissues are to be placed in the organism (Reddien 2004). A planarian can be cut into 279 tiny pieces
and it will still be able to regenerate with all of those pieces of the organism (Showk

Fluoridated Water In Australia
As water is most important for sustaining life, Australia s drinking water has been fluoridated since
1970 however there are arising concerns regarding its safety to the human health and the environment
but Should Australia continue using fluoridated water? (NHMRC 2016).
Fluorine (F) is an element found in the 7th group of the periodic table from the halogen family. It s an
element that most reactive as it only needs to gain one electron to form Fluoride ion (F ). It s in this

Lipsle Analysis Case Study
A STEEPLE analysis is a strategic marketing tool that allows business owners to take a closer look at
the external factors that could affect the day to day running of the business. The external factors a
STEEPLE analysis includes are sociological, technological, economic, environmental, political, legal
and ethical.
After reading the (EMA, 2016) case study, it was clear that sociological factors affect Leon
substantially. One factor that has affected Leon is education; this is due to the new training
programme, Wing Tsun, Vincent has adopted in a bid to improve performance, reduce wastage and
promote staff wellbeing. Since starting, Leon s baristas have knocked 30 seconds off their time which

Additionally, another factor that I found within the (EMA, 2016) case study was that Leon plan to
open its first site outside of the UK, which will be located within Amsterdam s Schipol airport and will
be the first of a few sites within northern Europe. This will impact Leon greatly as increasing the
number of chain restaurants will be costly at first but then will provide further income which will
boost their economic growth.
After reading the (EMA, 2016) case study, I found that environmental factors affect Leon but not a
substantial amount. For example, Leon s new training programme, Wing Tsun, is not only a way to
improve performance but also to reduce wastage. This new programme was introduced after Vincent,
the co founder of Leon, stated in an interview that the purpose of business should be to make the lives
of humans and the health of the planet better. Therefore, by introducing the new programme that helps
reduce the wastage of Leon s restaurants, Vincent s company is helping the health of the planet.
Leon may have political factors that affect their business on a day to day basis but there wasn t any
relevant information in the case study regarding politics. Therefore, I can t comment on how political
factors affect Leon.
A legal factor that was present in the (EMA, 2016) case study was taxation, particularly the sugar tax .
Leon has put the sugar tax into practice by adding an

Key Psychotherapy Integration Approaches To Psychotherapy
Key psychotherapy integration assumptions about common factors and other approaches to
psychotherapy integration including a multicultural perspective were explored through the lenses of
Yalom (2012), Laska, Gurman, Wampold (2014), Laska Wampold (2014). There are five types of
psychotherapy integration, the common factors approach, theoretical, assimilative, systematic
eclecticism, and the unified approach. Each type of psychotherapy has its own uniqueness and hold
value in the sense of providing positive outcomes for clients in psychotherapy. One approach is the
common factors approach. The common factors approach (CF) conceptualizes psychotherapy as a
socially constructed and mediated healing practice (Frank Frank, 1993). The focus of the CF approach
is improving practice outcomes and therapist competence (Laska, Gurman, Wampold, 2014a). A
second type of psychotherapy integration is the cyclical psychodynamic therapy.
Theoretical Perspective
Paul Wachtel, a therapist who uses theoretical perspective, created the cyclical psychodynamic therapy
(Wachtel, 2014). The cyclical therapy incorporates the psychodynamic and cognitive behavioral
therapy schools of thought. This type of psychotherapy integration focuses on the personality patterns
that may have originated in childhood but that persist because they often generate the very feedback
from others that is necessary to keep them going (Wachtel, 2014). Although the theory is rooted in the

Role Of Women In Frankenstein
The Temperament of the Natural Role of Women in Frankenstein The scientific advances in
Frankenstein led to disastrous consequences, but on a more biological level than one would think. The
author, Mary Shelley was a woman born in Somers Town, London, in 1797. She was raised by her
father William Godwin, who was a writer and philosopher. When she wrote Frankenstein, Shelley
portrays a determined, male character, Victor Frankenstein as an obsessed scientist who creates a so
called monster out of various body parts he dug up out of a graveyard. The reason for the description,
so called monster is because a true monster is evil, inhumane, and lacks remorse. In addition to this,
the stigma around appearance being sociated with monster like ... Show more content on

It s important to realize that Frankenstein s nineteenth century is founded on the division of gender
roles: the male inhabits the public sphere, the female is relegated to domestic sphere. For example, the
men in all work outside the home, as public servants, scientists, merchants, or explorers. Also, the
women are confined to the home; Elizabeth, for instance, is not permitted to travel with Victor.
Interestingly, this is the reason why his wife wasn t involved with the idea of this experiment.
Throughout the novel, intellectual activity is segregated from emotional activity. With this in mind,
Victor Frankenstein cannot do scientific research and think lovingly of Elizabeth and his family at the
same time. While working on his experiment, he states to forget those friends who were so many
miles absent, and whom I had not seen for so long a time, ( Shelley 50) which means he became
disconnected from his relationships. This directly to his downfall because Frankenstein cannot work
and love at the same time. This results in him failing to feel empathy for the creature. The reason for
this is because being in isolation for so long, he starts to lose his sense of humility. By not maintaining
a loving relationship with his wife, he lost his reason to show compassion. Also, he fails to love or feel
any parental responsibility. As a matter of fact, Frankenstein manages to eliminate the biological role
of women, but didn t fulfill the motherly aspect. He fails to raise the monster as a mother would raise
a child. The reason for this is because he created the monster for his own personal gain. Women, on
the other hand, give birth with the intention to nurture and raising a life. By eliminating the biological
role of women, but not fulfilling the motherly aspect, it results in the monster seeking revenge on his

Avon Case Study Essay
Case Introduction Brief Summary
Avon is the world s largest direct seller of beauty product for over a hundred years. It was founded by
David McConnell as California Perfume Company in 1886 and changed its name to Avon Products in
1939. It entered China and pioneered the direct selling method in 1990 and became a global name
brand in beauty product around the same time. With operations in over 45 countries and a market
spanning over 135 countries in Europe, Australia, Asia and America, Avon set the standard of what it
means for a company to be global.
Case Questions
1. In what way does Avon follow a global strategy? Does this experience indicate that it should pursue
a different strategy? Avon pursues economies of scale by choosing facility location that minimizes the
cost of manufacturing, logistics, etc, and it does so on a global basis. Avon also limited product
variations which save the company from spending extra money and it also balances the cost saving
potential of standardization with responsiveness to individual market needs in pursuing both profits
and market share. With $4.8 billion in sales each year and 65% of the sales coming from abroad, it s

aggressive skinhead gang that caused a lot of problems in the town. Shaun decides to join Combo s
gang because he wanted to make his father proud that was killed in the Flanklands war, and this can be
deduced by Combo when he said: and you want your dad s life to mean something. Don t you...
Although, I don t think that making his father proud was the only reason. In fact, in Shaun s life there
has been a lack of a father figure, which he suffered from, and so when he meets Combo, and he tells
him that he is going to take care of him, Shaun decided to take him as a role model to follow. As a
result Combo becomes the father figure in his life and decided to follow his nationalism idea. Combo

Veganism And Omnivore
Lifestyles: Vegan and Omnivore
As different crazes and fads are appearing each day, we have come to expect them to simply fade
away as the hype passes. However, veganism has stood the test of time in our fad society and is still
increasing in popularity. Originally only thought to be a religious lifestyle, many people from different
walks of life are becoming vegans. However, this poses many questions and sparks heated debates,
mainly from omnivorous people who believe that veganism is against life s natural order. Vegans,
then, argue against an omnivorous lifestyle by bringing up facts about humans biological makeup and
how humans are, contrary to popular belief, herbivorous by nature, not omnivorous. While both sides
present good arguments to some, the veganism lifestyle contains more benefits and less harmful cons
than an omnivorous lifestyle.
The first argument that is brought up about the two opposing lifestyles is the food that one is able to
consume and the health benefits that come from eating said lifestyles. In terms of an omnivore, one is
able to eat any and everything without restrictions; This includes meat, seafood, starchy and non
starchy vegetables, fruits, legumes, grains, and nuts. However, on average, omnivores do not consume
enough healthy fruits and vegetables, tending to consume mainly meats, dairy, and grains. Meat,
especially beef, is high in harmful cholesterol and fat, which is not good for the body. In addition, this
also means that, on

Rich 18
Every person has his own philosophy which ultimately guides him through each day. If a person
believes in basic moralities, such as not lying, cheating or stealing, then his actions will project his
beliefs. If one does not agree with these moralities then his actions will oppose the actions of those
who do. People?s philosophies are often guided by how they were raised as children and how their
mind processes information. Situations and events, positive or negative, can change how a person sees
the world which affects the philosophy that they live by. A Christian?s philosophy is found in the
Bible. The Bible is the Word of God which reveals how man came into existence, man?s purpose on
earth and even some of God?s plan for the future. The Bible is God?s primary tool that He uses to
show His love and guide a Christian through his life. All religions have some sort of god or figure that
is worshipped. Out of all the false gods, none can compare to the God of the Bible. He is the one ...

A legion of God?s angels became prideful of God and allowed that pride to consume them. Their
desire to be like God in power and authority caused them to fall away from Him. Ultimately forcing
God to cast the rebellious angels out of Heaven. Satan, a fallen angel, came to the earth in the form of
a serpent and tempted Adam and Eve in the same way he was tempted. God Specifically told Adam
and Eve not to eat of the tree in the middle of the garden (Genesis 3:3), but Satan told them that if they
were to eat of the tree they would be like God. Adam and Eve?s desire to be like God caused them to
eat the fruit of the tree in which they were commanded not to. Romans 5:12 says ?just as through one
man sin entered the world, and death through sin, and thus death spread to all men? (NKJV). Because
Adam gave into temptation, he became a bondservant to sin and caused all men to be liable to the
punishment of death (?I. The Origin of

Wimax: The Next Broadband Wireless Revolution
ABSTRACT:
WiMax is the next step on the road to a wireless world, extending broadband wireless access to new
locations and over longer distances. It will also significally reduces the cost of bringing broadband to
new areas.
[pic]
INTRODUCTION: WiMax (worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access) is the recently
approved IEEE 802.16 wireless metropolitan area network (MAN) standard for wireless access.
WiMax is the real wireless architecture by which the wireless access range can extended to 49.6Kms
compared with Wi Fi 91mts and Bluetooth s 9mts. WiMax 802.16 has a single carrier modulation
scheme that operates between 10GHz and 66GHz ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Cellular backhaul: The robust bandwidth of 802.16 technology makes it an excellent choice for
backhaul for the commercial enterprises, such as those providing hotspots ,as well as for point to point
backhaul applications.
Broadband to underserved and remote areas: WiMax is a natural choice for under served rural and
outlying areas with a low population density.
Broadband on demand: It can help to accelerate the deployment of Wi Fi hotspots especially in those
areas not served by cable, in areas where the local telephone company may have a long lead time for
providing a broadband service.
Best connected wireless service: WiMax has nomadic capabilities, which allow users to connect to
WISP even when they roam outside their home or business, or go to another city that also has a WISP.

CHIP ADVANCES: The main obstacles to long distance wireless communications are limitations on
battery power and poor power efficiency. Regulation keeps the power levels low and the range of Wi
Fi signals short, to avoid the overcrowding of airwaves. But advances in DSP chips mean that weak
signals can be deciphered, lengthening the distance that is practical for transmission, as well as
improving distance and speed potential. Battery improvement is vital to make a WiMax cell phone a

Pathos And Logos In A Good Man Down By Lee Jenkins
A Good Man Down, written by Lee Jenkins, is about a small Iowa town and how they come together
and cope in times of despair. Ed Thomas was not only the high school football coach but probably the
most respected men in the town. It seems as this man would do anything to help out his community.
Unfortunately, Thomas was shot by Mark Becker, a former athlete, on June 24, 2009. In fact, Mark s
brother was playing for Thomas at the time of the murder. In this piece of writing, Jenkins uses all
three elements pathos, ethos, and logos to really pull the audience in and make the reader feel what the
town of Parkersburg was going through.
Jenkins explains what a great man Thomas was, Thomas delivered sermons when ministers were
away. He consoled husbands whose wives were ill. He presented baby boys with FUTURE FALCON
certificates. He taught kids to play football, sure, but he also taught driver s ed, making his students
learn behind the wheel of a John Deere mower before he gave them keys to a car. He worked every
day but Christmas, except this year, when he took a vacation to Hawaii and complained that he could
not relax. By adding this into his article, Jenkins is creating a picture of what type of man Ed Thomas
was. He is describing his personality in hopes that you may connect Thomas is to someone in your
community that is thought highly of. By the audience getting emotionally invested in this piece, this
shows the element of pathos. Also, by showing how highly thought of

Free Will And Determinism In Groundhog Day
In the award winning movie Groundhog Day, we are presented with a peculiar situation where Phil
(Bill Murray) relives the same day over and over. As the film progresses Phil is fathomed by the
events occurring and lives out each day as he pleases. Correspondingly, there are zero consequences
for his actions. Death, crime nor love has the ability to change the never ending Déjà vu that Phil
relives every day. At the same time; Phil has no free will in reliving Groundhog day, but does he have
free will on his actions and how he spends his time on that day? Or is each action pre determined?
These are interesting concepts that will bring us to the issues that will be discussed throughout this
paper. Do we truly have free will on our actions or are they previously determined for us? Free will
and Determinism offer us different views on how we can perceive the ultimate course of our actions
and life. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Free will is the philosophical idea that we have the power to think, choose and act voluntary without
any external factors. To believe in free will one believes that we are agents who are capable of making
decisions that can alter our course of action regardless of external factors and antecedent conditions.
Do not confuse free will with political freedom, which is called liberty. In 1924, two Chicago
teenagers, Richard Loeb and Nathan Leopold kidnapped and murdered a boy named Bobby Franks.
Loeb and Leopold were two bright college graduates with what looked like very promising futures.
With this in mind; why would two bright young men commit such an act? When asked their response
was just to prove they could . To prove that they could ;indeed, do any action they aspired to do on
their own free will. To defend the young men their parents hired Clarence Darrow; which at the time,
was one of the most famous and well known lawyers. Darrow once said to a group of inmates

Descriptive Essay On Living In A Room
Living in a Dorm Room While most freshman choose to live in a dorm room their first year of
college, there can be some negative and positive outcomes when living with someone else. It can be
hard to cope with the other person or it can be easy to cope with the other person you are sharing a
room with. Sometimes on the other hand, it can easily become dramatically annoying, difficult, and
disruptive to others in the room, like I think it did to me. Although I do believe living in a dorm can be
much of a transformation from living in a house, every college student, like I did last year, has to
experience the part of living in a dorm. Or experience being in a dorm room at one point during their
college experience, if he/she chooses to go the college route. Last year, while living in a college dorm
at my other college before I became a transfer student, I had to share my room with one other girl that
was a thrower in Track and Field, who was all muscle and about a foot taller than me topping off at
probably 6 3 . I was terrified of her, if I did something wrong or if I said something wrong in general,
she would have probably kicked my butt, literally. So, I decided from the first time I saw her to keep
things to myself and mind my own opinion, of course not telling her my point of view on everything
she did wrong, because I did not want to get hurt. It all started when she never cleaned up after herself,
which made it very easy for me to become annoyed by her and

Decision Framing
Making good decisions is vital to living a successful and productive life. The ability to decide and
choose wisely and rightly depends on the situation. Though we try to be as logical as possible in
taking a decision, sometimes we end up making the wrong choices. So, it is important to understand
how people decide things.. The sad truth is that people, even at the highest level, simply do not like to
make good choices as every decision involves a certain amount of risk. Decision framing is the first
step in the decision making process, and it builds the plan for making a good choice. The decision
frame does not always ensure the right outcome. However, without it, there is no structure when
making a decision. Framing is all about how information is presented and if it has an affect on the
outcome. Framing is all about how we interpret the information. People interpret things ... Show more

motivation for the heroes to preserve through tough times. Katniss was no exemption to this, as her

The Conflict Of Identity In The Picture Of Dorian Gray
The Picture of Dorian Grey as a novel in the Victorian Era was shocking to readers of the time due to
the open nature of topics like: sexuality, greed and corruption. A Freudian perspective of the
characters: Basil, Lord Henry and Dorian can be seen as the Id, Ego and Super Ego. Basil is the Super
Ego, he conforms to a certain extent and tries to make Dorian lead a moral life when it comes to
desperate times of the loss of the real Dorian ; Lord Henry can be seen as the Id, the immoral character
who tries to convince Dorian to submit to his natural urges and passions; Dorian is the Ego, one who
in the beginning is in between the two and has a power struggle within as to how he should act as a
character in the novel. In answering this question and exploring the conflicts shown in the novel one
must look at the gender, identity and sexuality.
One conflict shown in Dorian Grey is the conflict of identity portrayed in the novel by Oscar Wilde.
The character Basil describes Lord Henry to be a very influential character to another s identity, for
example, Don t spoil him. Don t try influence him. Your influence would be bad. Spoiling Dorian
shows that he is pure, and should not be tainted by Lord Henry s character; this shows that Lord Henry
is impure in thought and in his actions and this impacts his approach towards others. As Basil says
this, it shows that he understands the flaws in Lord Henry s character, but also his power in
manipulation, especially towards someone like

Description And Analysis Of The Run Time Pattern
Overview: This section describes the interpretation and analysis of the results from both of the
experiments. The analysis is based upon the comparison of the theories against the results of the
experiment, whether the results support or reject the theory. This section consists of the following
analysis: comparison of the run time pattern in three times execution, comparison of the overall run
time using an arithmetic mean approach and error analysis.
Run Time Pattern in Three Executions
MySQL (non cluster) had a stable pattern within three executions, while Hadoop did not. According to
my investigation, it caused by the following reason: I executed MySQL (non cluster) through SSH
window, whereas Hadoop was executed through Ambari client browser. The connection through SSH
did not use Internet public network, while client browser used it. In other words, the public Internet
network only affected client browser.
Based on 10 times bandwidth measurement (appendix F), the Internet speed was unstable. The
Internet speed was unstable because it was a public network. As a public Internet network used by
other people as well, the speed of the network was depending on the high/low network traffic. The
traffic of public network was unpredictable: some users might do heavy activities at one time, and few
seconds later the users did not do anything.
Hence, the instability of public Internet speed caused the instability of the total time taken of Hadoop s
activities. MySQL (non

The Baroque Period Was A Time Of Conflicting Religions,
The Baroque period was a time of conflicting religions, and is one of the major movements in art since
the renaissance era. Beginning in 17th century Italy and later spreading into Northern Europe, the
Baroque era was one that had a mission and an objective in mind: to restore faith back into the
Catholic Church and to counter the growing conversion of protestants. Having already launched the
counter reformation in the 16th century, it did not fare well against Martin Luther s Protestant
Reformation and his 95 thesis of debating points in 1917. Protestant believers argued that faith was the
one and only way to earn salvation and god s grace. Luther accused the church of nepotism and was

Saint Mathew, the figure of interest, is pointed out by the implied lines created with the lines of light
and the pointed hands. One symbolic feature recognized in the piece is the hand of god replicating that
of Adam s hand from Michelangelo s Creation of Adam. This made reference to god being seen as the
new Adam, due to how Adam s action created sin, which resulted in the fall of humanity, Christ
undoes Adam s actions by dying on the cross (McDermott, Mar. 5, 2017, Chaffey College). According
to Painting Techniques used by Caravaggio: Chiaroscuro, Tenebrism, [Caravaggio] s treatment of light

addition, it allowed artists to control the focus of the painting, thus increasing its dramatic content.
Lastly... it enabled greater emotional depth and characterization. Due to this, Caravaggio was an asset
to the Counter Reformation and allowed people to relate to his paintings and thus gain appeal to the
Catholic Church.

reminiscent of the Italian Baroque is the way that the figure is represented as a scrappy

Essay on Censorship in Schools is not Justifiable
Censorship in School is Not Justifiable Walt Whitman once said, The dirtiest book of all is the
expurgated book. Between the years 2000 and 2009 a total of 3200 books were challenged in school
libraries in an attempt to expurgate, or censor, the content in books provided to students. Today the
trend of censorship continues as popular novels such as The Hunger Games, The Fault in Our Stars,
and Captain Underpants are censored from schools across the nation (Challenges by

Heinrich Heine states, Wherever they burn books they will also, in the end, burn human beings.
Restricting the discussion of new and controversial ideas rather than tolerating and acknowledging the
presence of new and controversial ideas is causing more pain than it is worth in the school setting. The
idea of censoring reality from school libraries is unreasoned, yet that is exactly what pro censorship
individuals advocate. The discussion and knowledge of new, controversial, and necessary ideas among
students is restricted due to censorship.
Censorship in school libraries allows teachers, administrators, peers and their parents to decide what a
student may or may not read based on their opinion. Opinion is variable between different groups of
people within the school; therefore, a single person or a small group of people cannot be trusted to
make decisions on the behalf of a larger group. Kekla Magoon argues, That no one person can be
trusted to censor material, individuals can choose to be exposed to. Expurgation, banning, and
abridgement of books are not allowing students to learn how to guard themselves from topics they do
not personally believe in. Students would benefit much more if they practiced self censorship rather
than depending on adults to make decisions for them. A

their body which when O Brien or Madred press the button, the level of pain will decrease or increase.
The only answers that are acceptable to them, is the answers that they want, not the actual right

The Colonies Of The United States Essay
In the 1607, the Virginia Company sent three ships over to America in search of finding gold and

the land had failed to produce gold or silver, the Virginia Company began to sell the land for property
which started the colonization of what is to start the spark of the thirteen colonies. Great Britain began

Colonist came over in search of many opportunities. Opportunities to find new jobs and religious
freedom gave the colonist hope while travelling across the Atlantic. The cultural blend that made up
the colonies led to different colonies to form amongst them. The geographical characteristics of the
colonial regions helped shape what the colony is most beneficial for. The northern colonies consist of
Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, and New Hampshire. The northern region had poor soil
and a harsh climate. The cold climate helped prevent the spread deadly diseases from infecting the
people.

Shel Silverstein Research Paper
Shel Silverstein is a very popular children s poetry book author, a songwriter, and a playwright. He
was a very private man who did not entertain interviews and left most of his life in the shadows away

Spanish American Imperialism Essay
Some people say america was the land of freedom
I feel that the american imperialism had a negative effect on the natives In the Spanish American War
of 1898 the United States seized the Spanish colonies in the Caribbean and the Pacific, emerging for
the first time as a world power.* As in Cuba, Spanish colonial rule in the Philippines had given rise to
a national liberation struggle. Immediately after the U.S. naval bombardment of Manila on May 1,
1898, in which the Spanish fleet was destroyed, Admiral Dewey sent a gunboat to fetch the exiled
Filipino revolutionary leader Emilio Aguinaldo from Hong Kong. The United States wanted

Informative Speech Outline
Specific Purpose: At the end of my speech, my audience will have a better understanding of EDM
culture.
Thesis Statement: Electronic Dance Music is more than just bops and scratching sounds; it s a way of
life.
Introduction: (Play YouTube video from 1:38 1:58). What you just heard were the sounds of EDM.
EDM stands for electronic dance music. Also you saw first hand the inside of a rave called Electric
Daisy Carnival (a Las Vegas event famous for finding yourself under the electric sky ). What rave
culture means to me is a place I can be myself and express my creativity in a judgment free
environment. Today, I am going to explain the history behind the top 3 most popular genres of EDM,
and the meaning behind rave culture.
I. The different types of EDM I will be talking about is Dubstep, House, and Trap A. The first genre of
music I will be talking about is Dubstep. 1. Dubstep originated in South London, and traced back to
the Jamaican sound system in early 1980 s. a. This type of music played in secret underground clubs.
This genre was taboo to most people. 2. Dubstep was made popular in the United States by an artist
named Skrillex. a. The music website Allmusic classifies The overall sound of Dubstep is classified as
tightly coiled productions with overwhelming bass lines and reverberant drum patterns, clipped
samples, and occasional vocals (Bush 2012). (Insert sound clip here) B. The second genre of music I

victim host, not by the attacker [6]. This will happens mainly for two reasons: (i) organizations
firewall usually allows the connections initialized by internal hosts, and (ii) this will help the attacker
to not to detected easily. Because intrusion detection systems [7] can easily detect the extremely
suspicious activity such as downloads from outside hosts. In targeted attack, the intruder generally

Comparing UMBC And UMCB Policies
The two agencies that were interviewed have some differences in developing policies and procedures
as well as some similarities. University Medical Center at Brackenridge (UMCB) is local
organization; whereas, ST. David Medical Center operates under Hospital Corporation of America
(HCA) organization which has multiple hospitals and surgery centers in 21 States. UMCB policies are
not officially regulated according to current evidences; however, the hospital librarians researches on
current evidence based articles and pass that information to physicians and nurses. On the other hand,
HCA make their policies using current evidence based studies as well as conducts their own limited
trials. UMBC uses all types of evidences and stakeholders (Physicians,

David Schön Model Of Reflective Practice
As important as methods may be, the most practical thing we can achieve in any kind of work is
insight into what is happening inside us as we do it. The more familiar we are with our inner terrain,
the more sure footed our [work] and living becomes. P. J. Palmer (cited in Skovholt, T. M., 2001).
The pursuit for self awareness or self understanding is a chief factor of valuable reflective practice.
Counsellors need not only to be conscious of their abilities, facts and presentation as professionals, but
also wary of any private aspects that may mess with or obstruct their capability to supply an efficient
and objective service. Counselling professionals in their everyday practice encounter unique and
difficult circumstances which may ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This course lent focus to a host of different models associated with reflective practice which was
necessary to demonstrate proper counselling professionalism. One such model in particular refers to
the work of David Schön who was very instrumental in developing concepts of self awareness in
relation to the aspect of reflective practice. Schön (1987 in Sharpy, 2005) identified two types of

Reflective Essay On Geneseo
Often times people relate what they re learning to the environment around them. Studying in Oxford
allowed for a unique, more relatable experience to history and the literature discussed in the course.
Oxford, being one of the oldest, most prestigious institutions in the world, generated an atmosphere
that my classmates and I couldn t experience in Geneseo, one we may never have the chance to
experience again. From the history, to the architecture, to the students and culture it is unparalleled to
our education here in the US. The historical significance England has, not only with the USA, but the
entire world made the trip invaluable. Learning in the same place as influential philosophers like John
Locke, as well as the significance of Oxford in Thomas Hardy s Jude the Obscure, creates a special
connection to the text I would have nowhere else. Not only was academic aspect enlightening but also
social aspects like traveling and meeting locals as well. This program put academics and life in a
different context, something I m grateful I took advantage of.
Class itself was different from any class I ve taken in Geneseo, from the room to the bond I shared
with my classmates and professors throughout the trip. The environment, along with other factors,
created a more fulfilling academic experience, one I had yet to experience until this trip. Lectures and
discussions became a thing I was excited to listen and participate in. Class, in general, was more
engaging despite the

The Roaring Twenties Research Paper
The Roaring Twenties The 1920s, also called the roaring twenties for the change in culture to be more
freewhelling, was a time of innovation to the American people. This time was a time of lavish items,
such as the Ford Model A. American dream seemed to be possible to almost everyone. The roaring
twenties gave works of literature, music and dance, and art. Everything seemed to be great for almost
everyone. Literature was very popular in the 1920s. People were expected to be educated on how to
read, and understand what they read. During this time many authors published great works, such as
The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald and The Sun Also Rises by Earnest Hemingway. Fitzgerald s
work is about the American dream that can be achieved by anyone. Hemingway s novel introduces us
to the lost generation. These novels helped form the 1920 s and changed the views of the individuals
the read them. Literature helped shape the 1920s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Twenty years later, the Lindy Hop, a dance where the partner is swung into the air, seemed like a
normal thing. Music had changed to Jazz, and musicals were made. Musicals were a very popular past
time. There were many musicals based on Cinderella that captivated the audiences. Music Changed to
be more upbeat, and it had a much faster tempo. These changes sculpted people to be less formal than
they were. Surrealism was a major part of art in the 1920s. People used surrealism to express their
selves. Salvador Dali is a major surreal artist and is mostly known for his painting The Persistence of
Memory. Artists used their work to show their ideas. In Dali s painting, he shows how time has been
warped, and is decaying. Magazine illustrations started to become very popular during this time.
Another type of art is architecture. The 1920 s became a time when skyscrapers were being produced
along with larger homes for

Lord Byron And William Shakespeare
Since the beginning of time, human beings have found a variety of ways to illustrate their affections
for one another. An intriguing form to present an individual s ideal thoughts across is the form of
poetry, for it displays a deep and mysterious meaning behind the connotation of the words used.
Poetry allows writers to express themselves through the act of writing with the usage of a few words.
However, it is sometimes difficult for a reader to comprehend what the poem is trying to imply, but
that is the beauty behind poetry which as a reader, one might have a different interpretations from
another. In an analysis of She walks in beauty by Lord Byron and Sonnet 130 by William
Shakespeare, they both have a unique distinction on how the words are used to project affections to
their respective lover. The linguistic style of the poets diverges in their depiction the physical
appearance, emotive feelings, and understanding what the lover means to them. Lord Byron and
William Shakespeare did an incredible job analyzing their counterpart s physical appearance that was
just mind blowing to a reader. Throughout the poem She walks in beauty by Lord Byron, he uses
imagery that allowed him to compare his lover with nature. She walks in beauty, like the night Of
cloudless climes and starry skies, And all that s best of dark and bright Meet in her aspect and her
eyes; Thus mellowed to the tender light Which heaven gaudy day denies (Lines 1 6).
This stanza states that his

Protest On The Protest
On August 14, Colin Kaepernick, a San Francisco 49ers quarterback, sat during the national anthem.
Before anyone really noticed, he sat the following two games as well, then it finally became viral. It
wasn t laziness that caused him to sit, nor an injury, but a peaceful protest. Kaepernick sat to protest
rampant police brutality and injustice against black people in the United States. This protest became a
topic widely debated during the presidential election, and eventually when drafting season came
around for football, Kaepernick was blackballed from joining any teams because of this controversy.
The American people had a lot to say about how protest should be peaceful without disrespect, which
they say Colin could have had avoided doing, but they fail to realize that protest isn t supposed to
cater to your convenience. Protest is a fundamental right Americans have. Whether it be walkouts
from schools or marching in the streets, protest is effective when it s done en mass, and what better
way to get the message out than on TV, where millions of Americans tune in to watch beefy men
throw an egg shaped ball around.
Primarily, people came to the initial conclusion that Kaepernick sitting for the anthem is incredibly
disrespectful to the U.S. soldiers currently fighting right now and those who have died in battle. The
most popular saying being Soldiers died for that flag! However, the flag does not represent the
military in any fashion. In fact, the U.S. army actually has

Tenochtitl Human Sacrifice Today
Throughout the time from the thirteenth century to the early sixteenth century, Aztecs or Mexica as
they called themselves performed the practice of human sacrifice. The Aztecs were situated in what is
now modern day Mexico City but was once called Tenochtitlan. This city stands in scattered ruins
today as archeological proof of the sacrifices along with offerings they made to their gods. Sacrifices
today are something regarded as immoral and unethical however in the time of the Aztecs it was
performed as a sacred duty.
Laws that defined behavior and responsibility that provided structure to the nation, governed Aztecs.
The society was divided into three parts the macehualli who were peasants, the Pilli who were the
nobility and the tlacotin ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It was a powerful, political and religious city housing great temples and pyramids divided into 4
quadrants. The largest of these temples was by far the Templo Mayor or Great Pyramid stood at the
centre of Tenochtitlan. Standing at 90 feet high it consisted of two step pyramids side by side and a
smaller pyramid specifically devoted to Quetzalcoatl (feathered serpent god). Over the course of
around 200 years starting in 1325, the Templo Mayor was reconstructed seven times due to new
leaders ruling Tenochtitlan. These pyramids represented two mountains that were sacred to the Aztecs,
Tonacatepetl and Hill of Coatepec. Tonacatepetl or Hill of Sustenance s main deity was Tlaloc (god of
fertility and water). The Hill of Coatepec was the birthplace of Huitzilopochtli. This is important, as
Huitzilopochtli was the Aztec god of war, sun and most importantly human sacrifice; he was also
patron of Tenochtitlan. The combination of these gods on Templo Mayor represents atl tlachinolli
meaning burnt water, which indicated warfare helping the Aztecs to acquire power and wealth. Both
of these temples had structures atop of each pyramid showing images of the two gods, accessed by
balustrades with carved serpents at their base. These statues and pyramids show us that religion played
a tremendous role in Aztec

  • 2. The Early Stages Of Drug Prohibition Many currently illegal drugs, such as marijuana, opium, coca, and psychedelics have been used for thousands of years for both medical and spiritual purposes. The Early Stages of Drug Prohibition Why are some drugs legal and other drugs illegal today? It s not based on any scientific assessment of the relative risks of these drugs but it has everything to do with who is associated with these drugs. The first anti opium laws in the 1870s were directed at Chinese immigrants. The first anti cocaine laws, in the South in the early 1900s, were directed at black men. The first anti marijuana laws, in the Midwest and the Southwest in the 1910s and 20s, were directed at Mexican migrants and Mexican Americans. Today, Latino and especially black communities ... My group was in charge of the self love activity, promoting the idea of service while teaching the importance of self worth and acceptance. • 5. My Father Is A Hero Or Villain Essay My Father: Hero or Villain? A stranger once questioned my thirteen year old self, Would you rather live an easy life or an interesting life? and in the moment without hesitation to think about it, I responded an easy life. Ever since I was able to realize right from wrong, my immature mind always struggled understanding why bad things happen to good people and why our world can t be at peace. Or why must my body react anxiously? Or why my parents are divorced? Now, only God has the answers to all these questions. However, God simply wants YOU to figure out the obstacles on your own that appear throughout your growth. As I looked up with my arms wide open asking Uppie uppie? ..my father says Okay EB, one last time as he picked me up and held me, I noticed his gestures. Ever since I was young, I ve always had the power of observing and memorizing what surrounded me. Then, it hit me. The strange characteristics my father held. His aggressive temper, the impatient OCD, the odd jokes directed at my mother, the constant blaming as if he never made mistakes. Twas the night time that I dreaded the most. His time to shine . His enjoyment was down in the basement watching either football or baseball and through the thin walls I could hear that snap of a beer can opening. Every single night. • 6. Classroom Philosophy Reflection Paper Introduction Thinking about how education is taught in schools and all the different pedagogical practices makes me wonder what these practices are actually fulfilling. There are many different ways to approach a classroom environment. An individual can look at things from the student s perspective, the teacher s perspectives, or just the way the classroom functions altogether. I reflect on when I was in high school and, after learning in detail about all of these pedagogies, I can easily say that the classrooms I was taught in were combinations of multiple pedagogies. I believe as someone becoming a teacher we need to refine how the classroom should be run, and what the student and teacher s role should be. I think we need to shift our focus to an open minded and open environment pedagogy. I mean this in the sense that the environment should be an open place, a safe haven, the students can speak their minds and beliefs freely. I myself too many times have been in a classroom where I have felt restricted, bounded and unable to voice what I believe in because of the way the classroom was run. Along with this, we need to be open minded in the sense of viewing things from multiple perspectives and allowing the student to soar beyond the topic that is presented to them. I feel as though too many teachers close the door to exploring and thinking out of the box in fear of what it might bring and that I way I believe in an open classroom pedagogy. • 7. The 2016 Presidential Election Cycle To sum up the 2016 presidential election cycle in one word: anomalous. Unconventional candidates and unprecedented campaign strategies made for one of the zaniest election years to date. And yet, this election was not free from the traditional problems regarding voter turnout, which has historically had a tremendous impact on the results of elections; whichever demographics turn out or fail to on that fateful Tuesday will determine the winners and the losers. Logically, then, the federal government should want to give as many people as possible the chance to get to the polls. However, this is simply not the case. The American Election day falls on a work day, unlike that of many global democratic counterparts. As such, work obligations frequently prevent a large proportion of Americans from casting their ballots, thereby potentially skewing the election results, and acting as a form of voter suppression. Making election day a holiday would prove to be entirely too costly to the economy; instead, election day should simply fall on a weekend day. This would give more Americans the opportunity to exercise their democratic rights and therefore result in a more accurate reflection of the desires of the American people. The first Tuesday following the first Monday of November may seem like a rather arbitrary date to vote. However, Congress had good reason to declare this date as election day in 1845. • 8. Leonardo Da Vinci And His Contributions To Western... An Analysis of Leonardo da Vinci and His Contributions to Western Civilization Leonardo da Vinci is one of the most famous artists to have ever lived, and his contributions to the development of western civilization are irrefutable. Born on April 15, 1452, near Florence, Italy, one would not have guessed that he was destined for a life of greatness. He was the illegitimate child of an up and coming notary and a peasant girl, and he spent most of his childhood with his doting father ( Da Vinci The Renaissance Man. ). At the age of 15, he became an apprentice in the workshop of Andrea del Verrochio, where his undeniable talent soon became apparent. He remained an apprentice until 1477, when he left to explore other opportunities. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He then drew vertical lines and a single horizontal line, known as the horizon line. The vertical lines connected at the vanishing point, in the center of the horizon, giving the illusion of distance and depth to the two dimensional canvas. Despite the relative simplicity of the method, the results were revolutionary at the time ( Linear Perspective ). Linear perspective was not the only tool that da Vinci employed to better his art; da Vinci s excellent understanding of human anatomy allowed for more life like and three dimensional figures in his paintings. It is believed that da Vinci s interest in human anatomy began during his apprenticeship under Verrochio (Heydenreich). Leonardo expressed a fascination with the skeletal and muscular structures of the human form, and eventually researched the internal organs as well. Da Vinci even received permission by the Republic of Florence to dissect corpses for research purposes. He performed dissections on men, women, and fetuses, racking up a total of about 30 dissections, only ceasing his studies when the Pope forbade him from continuing. (Heydenreich). In addition to dissecting cadavers to research the human form and its mechanics, Leonardo da Vinci sketched his findings and published some of them. The most famous of these sketches is the Vitruvian Man, which da Vinci drew to show that the human form is proportional in the context of circles and squares. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The order was given on the night of June 5, 1944 to launch the paratroopers. The paratroopers were sent in first so that they could drop under the cover of the night. The paratroopers were plagued with cloudy skies and some anti aircraft fire. Some of the paratroopers were shot down while they dropped from the skies. Most of the paratroopers that did survive the jump missed their intended drop zones. • 11. Smart Antenna System Essay INTRODUCTION 1.1 Antenna Systems: Depending on the number of antennas used in the transmitting and receiving sections, the systems are divided into 4 types. 1.1.1 SINGLE INPUT SINGLE OUTPUT (SISO): Fig 1.1.1: SISO In SISO, there will be only single transmitter and a single receiver. This is the general system which we use. The simplest antenna technology is SISO. In some environments, this system is vulnerable to problems caused by multipath effects. When an electromagnetic field (EM field) is met with obstructions such as hills, buildings, utility wires, and canyons the wavefronts are scattered, and thus it take multi paths to reach the destination. Fading, cut out (cliff effect), and intermittent reception (picket fencing) are the problems caused by late arrival of scattered portion of signals. In a digital communications system, it cause a reduction of data speed and number of errors is increased. In order to eliminate or minimize problems caused by multipath wave propagation, a new technology has been introduced and it is Smart Antenna Technology. There are three forms of smart antenna, known as SIMO (single input, multiple output), MISO (multiple input, single output), and MIMO (multiple input, multiple output). 1.1.2 SINGLE INPUT MULTIPLE OUTPUT (SIMO) : Fig 1.1.2 : SIMO In SIMO, there will be only single transmitter and many receivers. 1.1.3. The synaptic nervous system contains nerve cells and it is when a neuron sends a signal, either electric or chemical, to another neuron and that signal contains information to be passed on or acted on (Mueller 2002). With the neural genes that are in planaria, they are able to build another fully function central nervous system, or CNS, without any of the old CNS (Cebria 2002). The CNS of a planarian is consisted of a brain in the head region and two ventral nerve cords that run down the body (Cerbria 2002). In a planarian there is a material called blastema and blastema is an important material which developes cells that are needed in order to have a full healthy organism (Reddien 2004). Blastemas are able to remake all of the tissues that were lost from an injury but they cannot put them in the correct place so blastema formation and morphallaxis are needed to fully replace the tissue (Reddien 2004). Morphallaxis is used to restore the symmetry of the new tissues and it also models how and where the tissues are to be placed in the organism (Reddien 2004). After reading the (EMA, 2016) case study, I found that environmental factors affect Leon but not a substantial amount. Key Psychotherapy Integration Approaches To Psychotherapy Key psychotherapy integration assumptions about common factors and other approaches to psychotherapy integration including a multicultural perspective were explored through the lenses of Yalom (2012), Laska, Gurman, Wampold (2014), Laska Wampold (2014). There are five types of psychotherapy integration, the common factors approach, theoretical, assimilative, systematic eclecticism, and the unified approach. Each type of psychotherapy has its own uniqueness and hold value in the sense of providing positive outcomes for clients in psychotherapy. One approach is the common factors approach. The common factors approach (CF) conceptualizes psychotherapy as a socially constructed and mediated healing practice (Frank Frank, 1993). The focus of the CF approach is improving practice outcomes and therapist competence (Laska, Gurman, Wampold, 2014a). A second type of psychotherapy integration is the cyclical psychodynamic therapy. Theoretical Perspective Paul Wachtel, a therapist who uses theoretical perspective, created the cyclical psychodynamic therapy (Wachtel, 2014). The cyclical therapy incorporates the psychodynamic and cognitive behavioral therapy schools of thought. This type of psychotherapy integration focuses on the personality patterns that may have originated in childhood but that persist because they often generate the very feedback from others that is necessary to keep them going (Wachtel, 2014). The author, Mary Shelley was a woman born in Somers Town, London, in 1797. She was raised by her father William Godwin, who was a writer and philosopher. When she wrote Frankenstein, Shelley portrays a determined, male character, Victor Frankenstein as an obsessed scientist who creates a so called monster out of various body parts he dug up out of a graveyard. It s important to realize that Frankenstein s nineteenth century is founded on the division of gender roles: the male inhabits the public sphere, the female is relegated to domestic sphere. For example, the men in all work outside the home, as public servants, scientists, merchants, or explorers. Also, the women are confined to the home; Elizabeth, for instance, is not permitted to travel with Victor. Interestingly, this is the reason why his wife wasn t involved with the idea of this experiment. Throughout the novel, intellectual activity is segregated from emotional activity. With this in mind, Victor Frankenstein cannot do scientific research and think lovingly of Elizabeth and his family at the same time. While working on his experiment, he states to forget those friends who were so many miles absent, and whom I had not seen for so long a time, ( Shelley 50) which means he became disconnected from his relationships. This directly to his downfall because Frankenstein cannot work and love at the same time. This results in him failing to feel empathy for the creature. The reason for this is because being in isolation for so long, he starts to lose his sense of humility. By not maintaining a loving relationship with his wife, he lost his reason to show compassion. Also, he fails to love or feel any parental responsibility. As a matter of fact, Frankenstein manages to eliminate the biological role of women, but didn t fulfill the motherly aspect. He fails to raise the monster as a mother would raise a child. The reason for this is because he created the monster for his own personal gain. Originally only thought to be a religious lifestyle, many people from different walks of life are becoming vegans. However, this poses many questions and sparks heated debates, mainly from omnivorous people who believe that veganism is against life s natural order. Vegans, then, argue against an omnivorous lifestyle by bringing up facts about humans biological makeup and how humans are, contrary to popular belief, herbivorous by nature, not omnivorous. While both sides present good arguments to some, the veganism lifestyle contains more benefits and less harmful cons than an omnivorous lifestyle. The first argument that is brought up about the two opposing lifestyles is the food that one is able to consume and the health benefits that come from eating said lifestyles. In terms of an omnivore, one is able to eat any and everything without restrictions; This includes meat, seafood, starchy and non starchy vegetables, fruits, legumes, grains, and nuts. However, on average, omnivores do not consume enough healthy fruits and vegetables, tending to consume mainly meats, dairy, and grains. Meat, especially beef, is high in harmful cholesterol and fat, which is not good for the body. In addition, this also means that, on ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 21. Rich s Philosophies Rich 18 Every person has his own philosophy which ultimately guides him through each day. If a person believes in basic moralities, such as not lying, cheating or stealing, then his actions will project his beliefs. If one does not agree with these moralities then his actions will oppose the actions of those who do. People?s philosophies are often guided by how they were raised as children and how their mind processes information. Situations and events, positive or negative, can change how a person sees the world which affects the philosophy that they live by. A Christian?s philosophy is found in the Bible. The Bible is the Word of God which reveals how man came into existence, man?s purpose on earth and even some of God?s plan for the future. • 24. Pathos And Logos In A Good Man Down By Lee Jenkins A Good Man Down, written by Lee Jenkins, is about a small Iowa town and how they come together and cope in times of despair. Ed Thomas was not only the high school football coach but probably the most respected men in the town. It seems as this man would do anything to help out his community. Unfortunately, Thomas was shot by Mark Becker, a former athlete, on June 24, 2009. In fact, Mark s brother was playing for Thomas at the time of the murder. In this piece of writing, Jenkins uses all three elements pathos, ethos, and logos to really pull the audience in and make the reader feel what the town of Parkersburg was going through. Jenkins explains what a great man Thomas was, Thomas delivered sermons when ministers were away. He consoled husbands whose wives were ill. He presented baby boys with FUTURE FALCON certificates. He taught kids to play football, sure, but he also taught driver s ed, making his students learn behind the wheel of a John Deere mower before he gave them keys to a car. He worked every day but Christmas, except this year, when he took a vacation to Hawaii and complained that he could not relax. By adding this into his article, Jenkins is creating a picture of what type of man Ed Thomas was. He is describing his personality in hopes that you may connect Thomas is to someone in your community that is thought highly of. By the audience getting emotionally invested in this piece, this shows the element of pathos. Also, by showing how highly thought of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Descriptive Essay On Living In A Room Living in a Dorm Room While most freshman choose to live in a dorm room their first year of college, there can be some negative and positive outcomes when living with someone else. Sometimes on the other hand, it can easily become dramatically annoying, difficult, and disruptive to others in the room, like I think it did to me. So, I decided from the first time I saw her to keep things to myself and mind my own opinion, of course not telling her my point of view on everything she did wrong, because I did not want to get hurt. The Conflict Of Identity In The Picture Of Dorian Gray The Picture of Dorian Grey as a novel in the Victorian Era was shocking to readers of the time due to the open nature of topics like: sexuality, greed and corruption. A Freudian perspective of the characters: Basil, Lord Henry and Dorian can be seen as the Id, Ego and Super Ego. Basil is the Super Ego, he conforms to a certain extent and tries to make Dorian lead a moral life when it comes to desperate times of the loss of the real Dorian ; Lord Henry can be seen as the Id, the immoral character who tries to convince Dorian to submit to his natural urges and passions; Dorian is the Ego, one who in the beginning is in between the two and has a power struggle within as to how he should act as a character in the novel. In answering this question and exploring the conflicts shown in the novel one must look at the gender, identity and sexuality. One conflict shown in Dorian Grey is the conflict of identity portrayed in the novel by Oscar Wilde. The character Basil describes Lord Henry to be a very influential character to another s identity, for example, Don t spoil him. Don t try influence him. Your influence would be bad. • 43. David Schön Model Of Reflective Practice As important as methods may be, the most practical thing we can achieve in any kind of work is insight into what is happening inside us as we do it. The more familiar we are with our inner terrain, the more sure footed our [work] and living becomes. P. J. Palmer (cited in Skovholt, T. M., 2001). The pursuit for self awareness or self understanding is a chief factor of valuable reflective practice. • 44. Reflective Essay On Geneseo Often times people relate what they re learning to the environment around them. Studying in Oxford allowed for a unique, more relatable experience to history and the literature discussed in the course. Oxford, being one of the oldest, most prestigious institutions in the world, generated an atmosphere that my classmates and I couldn t experience in Geneseo, one we may never have the chance to experience again. From the history, to the architecture, to the students and culture it is unparalleled to our education here in the US. The historical significance England has, not only with the USA, but the entire world made the trip invaluable. Learning in the same place as influential philosophers like John Locke, as well as the significance of Oxford in Thomas Hardy s Jude the Obscure, creates a special connection to the text I would have nowhere else. Not only was academic aspect enlightening but also social aspects like traveling and meeting locals as well. This program put academics and life in a different context, something I m grateful I took advantage of. Class itself was different from any class I ve taken in Geneseo, from the room to the bond I shared with my classmates and professors throughout the trip. The environment, along with other factors, created a more fulfilling academic experience, one I had yet to experience until this trip. Lectures and discussions became a thing I was excited to listen and participate in. Class, in general, was more engaging despite the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 46. Lord Byron And William Shakespeare Since the beginning of time, human beings have found a variety of ways to illustrate their affections for one another. An intriguing form to present an individual s ideal thoughts across is the form of poetry, for it displays a deep and mysterious meaning behind the connotation of the words used. Poetry allows writers to express themselves through the act of writing with the usage of a few words. However, it is sometimes difficult for a reader to comprehend what the poem is trying to imply, but that is the beauty behind poetry which as a reader, one might have a different interpretations from another. In an analysis of She walks in beauty by Lord Byron and Sonnet 130 by William Shakespeare, they both have a unique distinction on how the words are used to project affections to their respective lover. The linguistic style of the poets diverges in their depiction the physical appearance, emotive feelings, and understanding what the lover means to them. Lord Byron and William Shakespeare did an incredible job analyzing their counterpart s physical appearance that was just mind blowing to a reader. Throughout the poem She walks in beauty by Lord Byron, he uses imagery that allowed him to compare his lover with nature. She walks in beauty, like the night Of cloudless climes and starry skies, And all that s best of dark and bright Meet in her aspect and her eyes; Thus mellowed to the tender light Which heaven gaudy day denies (Lines 1 6). • 47. Protest On The Protest On August 14, Colin Kaepernick, a San Francisco 49ers quarterback, sat during the national anthem. Before anyone really noticed, he sat the following two games as well, then it finally became viral. It wasn t laziness that caused him to sit, nor an injury, but a peaceful protest. Kaepernick sat to protest rampant police brutality and injustice against black people in the United States. This protest became a topic widely debated during the presidential election, and eventually when drafting season came around for football, Kaepernick was blackballed from joining any teams because of this controversy. The American people had a lot to say about how protest should be peaceful without disrespect, which they say Colin could have had avoided doing, but they fail to realize that protest isn t supposed to cater to your convenience. Protest is a fundamental right Americans have. Whether it be walkouts from schools or marching in the streets, protest is effective when it s done en mass, and what better way to get the message out than on TV, where millions of Americans tune in to watch beefy men throw an egg shaped ball around. Primarily, people came to the initial conclusion that Kaepernick sitting for the anthem is incredibly disrespectful to the U.S. soldiers currently fighting right now and those who have died in battle. It was a powerful, political and religious city housing great temples and pyramids divided into 4 quadrants. The largest of these temples was by far the Templo Mayor or Great Pyramid stood at the centre of Tenochtitlan. Standing at 90 feet high it consisted of two step pyramids side by side and a smaller pyramid specifically devoted to Quetzalcoatl (feathered serpent god). Over the course of around 200 years starting in 1325, the Templo Mayor was reconstructed seven times due to new leaders ruling Tenochtitlan. These pyramids represented two mountains that were sacred to the Aztecs, Tonacatepetl and Hill of Coatepec. Tonacatepetl or Hill of Sustenance s main deity was Tlaloc (god of fertility and water). The Hill of Coatepec was the birthplace of Huitzilopochtli. This is important, as Huitzilopochtli was the Aztec god of war, sun and most importantly human sacrifice; he was also patron of Tenochtitlan. The combination of these gods on Templo Mayor represents atl tlachinolli meaning burnt water, which indicated warfare helping the Aztecs to acquire power and wealth. Both of these temples had structures atop of each pyramid showing images of the two gods, accessed by balustrades with carved serpents at their base.
