Mate Selection Theories
Mate Selection Theories in Action Choosing a life partner is a crucial task that majority of individuals,
if not everyone, partake in sometime during their lifetime. This process is otherwise known as mate
selection (White, Martin, Bartolic, 2013). Since mate selection is such an important aspect of any
individual s life, it would make sense that it is an area that has been researched extensively. There are
a number of mate selection theories in existence, but this paper will focus on looking at biosocial
theory and equity theory specifically. I find biosocial theory quite intriguing because it is something I
can see while living out my everyday life. This specific mate selection theory states that women are
more selective of partners ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Ashley was originally the underbenefitter in the relationship (she was not receiving as much as she
should) while Brock was the overbenfitter (he was receiving way more then he should) (White et al.,
2013). Ashley would go out of her way to do everything for him, while there were days Brock would
barely give her the time of day. This eventually caused distress and Ashley attempted to restore equity
by asking Brock for more. Though Ashley tried to believe that their relationship was more equitable
after this, the real changes were not there and so Ashley left the relationship. This is a perfect example
of the mate selection theory that is equity

The Hiding Place In The Book, Corrie Ten Boom
The book Corrie Ten Boom was an excellent book. The story was timed well and shortened from the
original biography of Corrie Ten Boom, The Hiding Place. This story is mostly about how a Christian
with so much faith can change the world. In the book many times Corrie shows compassion and
forgiveness. This book takes place in the Netherlands. I like history and this was a great story given
during WWII, during the Nazi reign. The story starts off slow not much going on, except Corrie is
sick. Her parents think that she has tuberculosis, which was incurable back then. However, she later
find out that it is not tuberculosis it is appendicitis. Her family owns a clock shop, so when the Nazi s
first start to take control they are nice to the Ten Boom s. Then time starts ... Show more content on

The Jews that the Ten Booms were hiding had made it to the secret room in time and were well
hidden. Even though the Gestapo did not find the hiding place Corrie, her father Casper, and her sister
Betsie were taken to prison. Her father, who was 84 at the time, died after ten days in the
Scheveningen prison. Corrie and Betsie spent 10 months in three different prisons, the last of which
was Ravensbruck Concentration Camp near Berlin. Betsie died at Ravensbruck, but Corrie lived and
got of the Concentration Camp to tell her story. While Corrie was in Ravensbruck, she never gave into
despair. When people would fight for their own survival, she would give her life for them. In the
harshness of the camps Corrie would always pray for other people and give them hope. One quote
from her shows her faith toward God, There is no pit so deep that God s love is not deeper still. This
was quote was amazing because of what she endured in the death camps. After the end of the German
Occupation, Corrie was let out and later became a missionary to tell her story, and how she forgave the
people from the Concentration Camps, even the Nazi who killed her

Jesus Made In America By Stephen J. Nicholas
When I was reading the book Jesus Made in America by Stephen J. Nicholas, I came across a very
interesting chapter titled Jesus on Vinyl . This chapter discussed in detail the state of the use of Jesus
in contemporary music from the 1950s up to the current times. Back 3in the 1950s there were
contemporary artists who putting out albums of hymns, like Johnny Cash s Hymns of Johnny Cash.
Not surprisingly, the most significant time for Christian gospel music was during the hippie era in the
1960s. During that time, gospel, youth, and music had merged together into songs that preached about
Christ and love. Many people became Christians during that time to protest the ongoing war in
Vietnam so it would make sense that they would start to make that a main topic in the music of that
time.
Hippies usually referred to themselves as the Jesus People (named by Duane Pederson who was one of
the leaders in Los Angeles) which led to this movement called the Jesus Movement. They claimed to
not be a part of the hippie culture that they were born out of nor were they a part of the fundamental
church. This caught the attention of several media outlets which drew more people do the Jesus
Peoples welcoming environment. Many baptisms happened during this time, like in 1967 when Ted
and Liz Wise converted four couples into becoming followers of Jesus, usually while on drugs. The
people being baptized actually believed that they were being cleansed while still being intoxicated.

Mrs Luna In The Bostonians
The Bostonians: Who is in Charge of the Narrative?
The Bostonians begins with an intriguing tirade by which Adeline Luna preannounces the appearance
of her sister, Olive Chancellor, who is one of the most enigmatic and attractive characters in Henry
James novels and who will be the answer to question in the title. Olive will come down in about ten
minutes says Mrs. Luna (James 3) , entering the room where Basil Ransom, the sister s cousin from
Mississippi, has waited for his hostess who wrote for him to come to Boston. About ten, Mrs. Luna
adds to her previous statement and puts rather rambling comments to that, saying [t]hat is exactly like
Olive. Neither five nor fifteen, and yet not ten exactly, but either nine or eleven (3). Mrs. ... Show

When Verena cried, with a laugh, in the middle of the conversation with Basil, for instance, the
narrator tells that [Basil] knows that the laugh ha[s] been expressive of some embarrassment (323),
unlike what it looks like to him, and adds that he does not know the meaning of her laugh. Here, the
narrator does not only deliver the descriptions available only to the omniscient narrator, but also points
out that it is her chronicler, the narrator, who knows the characters mind (323). The omniscient
narrator, who explains characters for the reader, in The Bostonians, interestingly, append seemingly
unnecessary explanation about the way the narrator s mind understands the characters, referring to
himself like a character in the novel. This supposedly omniscient narrator, who calls himself like a
character, initially loses its highly authoritative and reliable position, and also degenerates himself into
the status of historian, who just gather[s] the documents together about the events happened (260), but
nothing more than that. This peculiar position of the narrator seem to make inscrutable, or invisible
gaps here and there in The Bostonians, where he seemingly renounces his omniscience which
originally penetrates everything. When Olive has a conversation with Mattthias Pardon who wants

Chicago, Illinois Crime Analysis
Chicago, Illinois, is one of the most dangerous cities in the world, and is one of the most dangerous
city in America. Crime rate in Chicago is spread over murder, rape, assault, robbery, and many other
heinous crimes. The city does not know where to turn next, as their rates keep spiraling out of control.
Fatal crime in Chicago is higher than almost anywhere else in the United States, and that s what needs
to be controlled.
Chicago is one of the most dangerous cities in America and that can be supported because of its
significant crime rate. Not just the last couple of years, but for decades now. It is presumed that
because of the poverty, single parent homes, gun and gang violence, iit is believed that there are valid
reasons to support ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Statistics show that murder has the lowest rate per 100,000 people and rape has the second lowest. It is
good that the most vicious crimes are at a minimum, but the number per capita needs to be
emphasized, (per 100,000). Out of the 25 different districts in Chicago, each one has its own statistics
and reports on the crimes that happen in their area. Their city wide crime stats just reinforce the high
in theft and burglary and the low in murder and sex related crimes. With reference to their rates being
a rollercoaster, between 2013 and 2017, murder crimes raised nearly 58% within those four years and
41% for rape and sex related crimes. On the other hand, theft and burglary actually went down by
27%. Even though there s more of that than anything else, it is still reducing and that is something to
acknowledge. In total, all crimes thrown together for a city wide rate is reducing by 8%. This means
that their criminal behavior is going lower in most areas, but not enough. Though people believe
statistics when they come from a valid source, it is hard to precisely measure the decrease and increase
of crimes in a city. Even the FBI sent a warning about such a thing, because they are aware that
statistics like these can impact a city heavily. The FBI aimed to simplistic and/or incomplete analyses
that often create misleading perceptions adversely affecting communities and their residents. It s
presumed that legitimate statistics

Education And Awareness Of Advanced Directives
Despite advanced public education and awareness of advanced directives there have been times when
if care is placed in the hands of physicians without a durable power of attorney, those wishes could be
terminated (CPOS, 2013). While most of the public would agree that not following specific end of life
choices is an unethical act, some hospital staff feels as though life saving measures may not be
appropriate in all situations, despite a written and signed document. The case that is analyzed in this
paper involves a man with end stage renal failure who clearly voiced and wrote his wishes on paper in
the presence of his primary physician and nephrologist. Without family or friends to act as his power

Marks wishes were documented on paper and signed by himself, his primary physician and
nephrologist. Although he had schizoaffective disorder, this was medically treated and he was very
capable of making decisions. Months later Mark s health status began to deteriorate and he was sent to
the hospital after a dialysis treatment due to low blood pressure. In the hospital, his mental status
declined and a palliative care physician was consulted. The doctor noted that Mr. Turner did not have
the mental capacity to make decisions and his hospital doctor, Dr. Roper, claimed that the patient told
him to withhold all life sustaining medical treatment, even though this was not documented. Over a
period of time and deliberation among the medical staff, the decision was made to withdraw dialysis
and send Mark back to a nursing home on hospice, overriding his wishes of CPR and intubation if
necessary (CPOS, 2013).
End of life decisions are often not thought about until a serious illness or life event occurs. Specific
treatment during the dying process may encompass simple to extremely complex decisions involving
physical, legal, medical, spiritual, or psychosocial needs. Research shows that more than 75% of
Americans have thought about their end of life wishes, but had not put those decisions in writing or
designated someone on an advanced directive who would make decisions on

Developing Strategies Involves Hypothesis Generation
Developing strategies involves hypothesis generation, creating a series of if then statements. This
process provides the ability to evaluate program effectiveness, to identify significant objectives and to
organize objectives in hierarchical form (Kettner, et. al, 2013). Program design is essentially
hypothesis generation. The hypothesis then gets translated into goals and objectives that provide a
framework for action, a general direction for the program, a timeframe, details tasks, and clearly states
program expectations, which then provides a foundation for monitoring, performance measurement,
and evaluation (Kettner, et. al, 2013). The hypothesis questions are translated into a plan, becoming

al, 2013).
The process of formulating objectives requires that I first establish the objective outcome, to be
followed by the construction of process objectives. Outcome objectives are statements made that
identify expectations of the program, and process objectives clearly state how the service provision
will achieved results. Alongside process objectives are specific activities that detail tasks for program
implementation (Kettner, et. al, 2013).The five components of objectives are: time frame,
identification of the target of the change, the results or outcomes to be achieved, the criteria by which
the results will be documented, monitored, or measured, and notification of who is responsible for
implementing and measuring the achievement of the objective (Kettner, et. al, 2013). Activities
establish the implementation plan clearly, include deadlines, and delegate responsibility.
For the first objective written to meet the goal of the creation of a behavior management program, the
objective is as follows: It is the objective of this program that by May 30th, 2016 to reduce by 85% the

Analysis Of Twelve Angry Men By Reginald Rose
Extended Analysis Twelve Angry Men
Justice is a concept that is crucial to a fair and just society. For hundreds of years, countries have
developed constitutions and other documents in place to form justice for those within the country. In
Twelve Angry Men by Reginald Rose, the idea of justice is bounced around by twelve men on a jury.
These men have the unthinkable decisions of whether a suspected murderer is given the death penalty
or able to walk free. The jury in Twelve Angry Men made the most just decision they could. To
understand how the decision they made was just and to explain some background, this essay will
cover a few major ideas. It will talk about how Reginald Rose included the ideas of: reasonable doubt,
being innocent until proven guilty, the jury system, and public defenders.
Twelve Angry Men touches on one of the key principles of the American criminal justice system. This
is the belief of the defendant being innocent until proven guilty. The idea is to give every person a fair
trial that follows the rules set forth in the constitution. In Twelve Angry Men, a young man is on trial
for the murder of his father. Many of the jurors jump to conclusions about the defendant s guilt
because of his lack of wealth and his ethnicity. Several of jurors make comments similar to these
people and kids like this are always up to no good (Rose 24). This shows an assumption based not on
the person, but on a very broad, vague, and stereotypical view. The biggest

Night, By Eliezer Wiesel
There are many important themes and overtones to the book Night, by Eliezer Wiesel. One of the
major themes from the book includes the protagonist, and author of his memoire, Elie Wiesel s ever
changing relationship with God. An example of this is when Moche the Beadle asked Elie an
important question that would change his life forever, as the basis of his passion and aptitude for
studying the ancient texts and teachings of Judaism, When Moche the Beadle asked Elie why he
prayed, Elie couldn t think of an answer that truly described his faith, and thought, a strange question,
why did I live, why did I breathe? (Wiesel 14).
The book begins describing Elie s religious teacher of the Kabbalah, Moshe the Beadle, as a jack of all
trades, or the go to man for advice or jobs. Kabbalah is a type of religious study derived from Judaism.
It is very rare and only practiced by a small part of the Jewish population, this includes Rabbis. This is
because you can only study Kabbalah, written in the Zohar text, or other subcategories of Jewish
mysticism, until you have mastered the Tora and Talmud. Kabbalah is a very advanced level of
religion and interpretation.
The book takes place during the span of World War II, and continues through Elie s perspective, as a
prisoner, persecuted due to his religion as a Jewish student. The first main plot line is when Elie and
his family are taken from their happy, peaceful lives in the small town of Sighet Transylvania, and are

Te poem by Robert Lowell seems as if he was remembering his mother s death and what he had gone
through during that time. He tells the story in a poem in a sequential order from being in the hospital,
being in the car with her dead body and finally in the cemetery burying her.
In the hospital we can see that he remembers that the nurse could only speak in Italian. We also see
that, he kind of knew that his mom was going to die because he says that there is only a week left of
her existence. By thinking about all this Robert Lowell starts to tear and I guess does cry.

How Did The Atomic Bomb Cause Mass Destruction
Nuclear Bombs
Atom bombs can stop a war before it even happens. Atom bombs can cause mass destruction in a
blink of an eye. The air blast of the atom bomb can knock down houses, trees, and throw cars. The
thermal radiation is released in a flash and instantly causes third degree burns. After all that, the
radiation penetrates through the body and causes severe damage. The United States needed a way to
stop the war going on between them and the Japanese.
They brought in a thirty nine year old man named Dr. Robert Oppenheimer. Oppenheimer was born on
April 22, 1904. He was enrolled in Ethical Culture School in September 1911, and graduated as
valedictorian in 1921. He enrolled at Harvard University in September 1922, and graduated in three

Budgeting and Its Types
Budget
A budget is a detailed plan of operations that is predetermined for a particular period. Budgets are
quantitative or financial statements prepared for the purpose of attaining a particular objective. It is
listing of all expenses and incomes i.e. planning them in advance to meet certain circumstances. In
other terms, a budget is an organizational plan stated in monetary terms.
It is a plan that outlines an organization s financial and operational goals. So a budget may be thought
of as an action plan. Planning a budget helps a business allocate resources, evaluate performance, and

Phases of Management Control.

Strategic planning identifies the products a company intends to develop, projects which management
intend to pursue to meet the organization s overall goals. Budgets are derived from these and are
specified in terms of a manager s responsibility.
Operating and measurement is the collecting of actual costs and outcomes identified to both
programmes and responsibility centres. Finally, reporting and analysis takes place as a basis for
control to the budget, for the co ordination of activities and as a basis for future decisions perhaps to
change the original plan.
Budgets as they are generally understood form the cornerstone of management control and the
management control system; they are a multi purpose management tool supporting planning, control,
co ordination, communication, performance evaluation and motivation.
Planning
The budget ensures that managers have thought ahead about how they will utilise resources to achieve
company policy in their area.

becomes whether his gifts were ideally suited to be sole proprietor? Or whether a partner with

Comparing Allopathic and Traditional Chinese Medicine Treatments of LBP 2
Abstract
Low back pain (LBP) is an issue that affects patients, healthcare professionals, and society on a global
scale. With advancements in allopathic medicine, LBP is better managed than ever before however, its
methodologies in diagnosing and treating LBP and its results are inconsistent. For this reason, many
patients and healthcare professionals are turning to alternative treatments such as traditional Chinese
medicine, which is now considered one of the leading treatments of LBP.
This study explores LBP treatment methodologies used in allopathic medicine and traditional Chinese
medicine (TCM). The research of Dr. Frank (1995) are examined further in order to gain more
understanding of the TCM methodology and its relationship with LBP. Additionally, this study aims to
convey what the holistic, low cost approach of TCM has to offer and to better understand the use and
effectiveness of acupuncture and herbology in the treatment and prevention of LBP.

The Pacific Bluefin Tuna Is An Valuable Valued Specie
Introduction The Pacific Bluefin Tuna is an incredibly valued specie who has been doomed for
decades. Although the IUCN has listed this specie as vulnerable, they are far becoming more
endangered to the point of extinction. Their population remains at 4% of what they were before
commercial fishers began capturing them by the thousands (The IUCN Red List, 2014). The Pacific
Bluefin Tuna is one of the largest and fastest fishes in the ocean. Their are three distinctions of the
Bluefin Tuna; the Southern, Atlantic, and in this case, the Pacific which is located primarily in the
northern hemisphere of the Pacific Ocean. They are special species because they can easily adapt to

Overfishing is a problem because Bluefin Tuna is responsible for keeping population numbers in
check, thus creating detrimental effects if the biodiversity were to be threaten and the ecosystem were
to become imbalanced. Furthermore, the Bluefin Tuna have fallen victim to becoming targeted and
non targeted species by fisherman. Purse seine fishing is the number one fishing method used to catch
the Tuna. However, long line fishing also poses as a threat because they are unintentionally caught in
by catches, creating an unnecessary waste. In addition, studies demonstrate that Japan has the largest
number of catches. Japan s economy has the most to loose if they do not protect their valued specie.
They have made little efforts for change and the ISC concluded that current levels of fishing have now
become unsustainable. It has been concluded that this stock will continue to decline in 2018 (Nickson,
2018). This specie has fallen a tragedy of the commons model due to individuals trying to gain the
greatest benefit, without realizing what the long term effects would be when the demands of the
resource overwhelms the supply. This will hurt the well being of multiple societies, and most
important, the well being of the Bluefin Tuna. The ISC stated that these species need new
management plans to ensure it s sustainability. With conservation efforts of the IATTC and WCPFC,
there will be a plan for rebuilding spawning populations, placing a

behaviour and actions. As per this case study, The Sunday Times obtained questionaries for who had
already departing from the Western Australian (WA) Police force. According to survey officers of WA
force who left the force they had some issues like bullying, corruption, illegal activities,
discrimination on racist grounds, and they didn t get proper training and development at a work place.
This problem mainly occurs in organisation when there is lack of motivation, lack of organisational
justice, negative culture and low morale.
The purpose of this case study is to give brief view about, why employees had to face these problems
and how to make positive culture and what and where the changes are required for the WA force. This
report introduces MARS motivation theory and Expectancy theory of motivation for improves officers
behaviours towards force, with that how can they fill organisational justice with engaging into their
work and how to improve work efficiency? At the last, The Sunday Times made survey as per only
departing officers which are not giving balanced view of whole force.
In this case study, some concepts of organisational behaviour which are describe WA force officers
problems.
Organisational culture:
Organisation culture is major issue in the case study because proper organisational culture means to
catch the problems and redesign and develop better

Statistical Analysis Of Organ Damage
Introduction
The HSE demanded a statistical report and analysis of the laboratory data, which could be used as
evidence of particular sectors of chemical industry causing potential health hazards for their
employees. For the purpose of this analysis a sample of people coming from four different sectors of
chemical industry had their blood tested for LDH 1 and LDH 5 levels (Intercellular enzyme that
determines cell damage in various organs). The degree of organ damage, in this case liver damage, can
be simply assessed by looking at the values of the ratio of those two enzymes: the higher the ratio of
LDH 1 and LDH 5 is, the worse the degree of liver damage is (nurseslearning.com). This is how we
can compare worker s health state and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One method of assessing the level of liver damage is to measure the ratio of LDH 5 to LDH 1.
To begin the statistical analysis of the data provided, we need to present the statistical description of it,
take a general look at the means and medians for each sector and test the normal distribution of the
data to see if we can undertake any further test.
As presented in the boxplot and in the descriptive statistics, the highest mean of the LDH1 to LDH5
ratio is associated with plasticizer manufacturing. Further examination and testing of the data is
necessary to determine whether there is a significant statistical difference between each industry and
health hazard associated with it, measured by LDH enzyme levels.
First of all it is worth to take a look at any outliers that may affect a distribution of the data.
Outliers affecting distribution:
De greasing outliers:
Female,34, 2 years of service
Dry cleaning outliers:
Male,33,15 years of service
Female, 60, 34 years of service
Plasticizer manufacturing outlier:
Male, 35, 14 years of service
The data set seems to have many outliers and what is more the Q1 and Q3 the quartiles are of a
different distance from the median, which makes the whole distribution unsymmetrical. What is more,
the whiskers are of a different length except for plasticizer manufacturing, which is generally the most
symmetrical one, and is the closest to the

Micro Suites As A Solution To Vancouver’S Housing Problem.
Micro Suites as a Solution to Vancouver s Housing Problem Bienvenue à Vancouver, where people
meet unrealistic housing and living costs. It is no secret that Vancouver s housing issue is blowing out
of proportion due to the demand for more affordable housing units. The problem is not a question of
production, but the type of housing that is being supplied (Gold, 2016). However, this would take a
great deal of time and nationwide discussion amongst lawmakers and the government to solve. While
the nation is busy talking about the housing problem of Vancouver, some developers and innovators
propose to adopt the idea of micro suites to help solve the issue. Micro suites, micro apartments, micro
units, micro housing or micro living all fall ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This may be a reflection of how designers have shaped spaces to meet how people nowadays live.
According to the City of Vancouver s zoning and development by law, no more than one person shall
occupy a micro dwelling and it must have a floor area of at least 29.7 sq. m. or 319.69 sq. ft. Because
of these numbers mandated by the City of Vancouver, Vancouverites are not expected to be
experiencing to live in smaller conditions. However, places like Japan, Hong Kong, New York and
San Francisco have micro dwelling units smaller than 320 sq. ft, which shows that there are people
who are willing to live the micro life and make the community around them into their extended space.
According to Sam Baron, 29, who has lived in a 248 sq. ft. space for two years, states that the space
was comfortable, functional, and allowed him central access between his work and school (Bellett,
2015). However, some studies show that there are dangers in living in a confined space and how micro
living is really not for everyone. Developers, in theory, design and build these homes to market to the
single young professionals who spend most of their day outside of their homes. This is assuming a sort
of stress free, constantly healthy young person. Someone who loses their job or is ill, or breaks up
with their girlfriend, or whatever might find this situation confining and depressing (Proctor,

A Summary Of Order On City Public Spaces
Because of the post fiscal crisis decades of the late 20th century in city of New York, The mayoralties
of Ed Koch, David Dinkins, Rudy Giuliani all saw a multipronged campaign to impose order on cities
public spaces, usually by ridding them of the homeless, squeegeemen , protesters, and sundry other
urban undesirables who made the life unpleasant for white middle class and upper classes, the
attraction of whom was increasingly seen as the key for the urban economic revival It was into that
economical and historical context, Joshua David and Robert Hammond made their initial push to save

On the contrary, because of their decision also focus on the elite the working class neighborhood was
forced to leave or suffered from the poor environment. Even though it is hard to tell that if it is the
designer s intention to built the High Line just for the elite, but it seems like the people living in the
neighbor was neglected before the construction. Behind the fading grey surfaces in the images, it was
an increasing inequality of economic resources in the neighborhood. In the images, all of the existing
neighborhood was intentionally erased by the rendering and presenting as barren buildings which can
be prompted by increasing circulation. This strategy of moving undesirable in the urban space and, in
so doing, help reclaim space for development was underway in Chelsea which was known as West

Public Transportation And New Developments
Public Transportation and New Developments
INTRODUCTION
Public transportation is the backbone of many large cities in the country but it seems the system of
transit in cities on the east coast and the west coast are far more efficient and well organized than in
the mid west. For example in Columbus, Ohio there has been deterioration in the public transit system.
The area which COTA covers is the greater Columbus metropolitan area which includes the whole of
Franklin County and parts of Union, Delaware, Fairfield and Licking Counties. Its main role is to
provide public transit service for the local population and take them from one place to another safely.
But it seems COTA does not involve women passengers in their discussions for consensus building on
new routes and redevelopment of the routes.
In October 2013, the Central Ohio Transit Authority (COTA) Hired independent experts to review and
evaluate the entire bus network. In March to June 2014 COTA received public input through ten
public meetings, an online survey and focus groups. Between September 2014 and December 2014 a
new proposed bus network completed was based on public feedback, and the COTA Board of Trustees
accepted final report and adopted framework for future implementation. In January 2015 COTA began
Implementation of Transit System Redesign (TSR), which will run through September 2017 with most
major changes occurring in May 2017.
This will include hosting four public comment meetings, review public

Google Glass Essay
Google Glass is without a doubt a very strong and innovative product with a high potential for growth.
However, following the initial launch, negative perceptions of these augmented reality glasses gave
view to a few major issues holding them back from success. Many of these problems occurred
primarily due to lack of security and privacy. Concerns during the initial release were caused by the
fact that the wearer can film or take pictures with out the subject(s) knowing or giving consent. As a
result, negative consequences, such as speculation against Google, along with customer assault and
isolation began to make face. Customers were targeted and harassed for supporting the product, which
worked to both stunt market growth, and lower Google s reputation. Not soon after, social media sites
took wind of the escalating situation and assisted in a major backlash against the new product.
Overall, the failure of the Google Glass explorer program directly resulted from the prevalence of
these unforeseen privacy issues. Removing the camera feature from the device would ultimately
eradicate that concern, while they would continue to provide all the other functions that wearables are
known for. Unfortunately, this action would diminish the devices value, market reaction would
initially be negative, and ultimately sales may not take off as planned. Without the ability to quickly
snap a photo or video, the value proposition of convenience is partially eliminated, and consumer

The Effects Of Radiation And Its Effects On The Human Body
I .Background
Case Summary
Mary had been referred to the surgery by a dentist requesting the radiologist to take a set of bitewings
to check for interproximal caries. The bitewings were taken by implementing current best practice
principles using PSP image receptors. A week later , Mary had contacted the surgery in a traumatised
state as she had learnt that she was 6 weeks pregnant and was totally upset as she was worrying that
the radiation might have damaged the foetus. An assessment report on Radiation Biology was
prepared ,by considering key factors such as cellular effects of radiation ,somatic/genetic effects of
radiation, variation in radio sensitivity of tissues in the human body , radiation dosages used in
dentistry, dental radiography and the pregnant patient and the implementation of ALARA principles in
the professional practice. Based on the study recommendations were made and words advice were
given to the patient which were based on the scientific information presented in the report.
II.Discussions
(i.)Cellular effects of radiation
The effects of ionizing radiation include cell death, chromosomal aberrations, DNA damage,
mutagenesis, and carcinogenesis and these are caused due to the direct ionization of cell structures,
specifically DNA, or result indirectly due to the reactive oxygen species produced by radiolysis of
water. The main contributing factor to such effects is the irreparable or misrepaired DNA damage in
cells.( Desouky et al, 2015)

pair with the two Gold players. Which do you choose? At first blush, you would think the Red/Gold
pair would make the most sense, and all other matters being equal, it is the right choice and the normal
rotation. Nevertheless, maybe we should look deeper. Looking ahead, if you cannot obtain four
rotations, whom will the penalized Blue player skate with when he comes out of the box? In our
example that normally would be Gold 1 and Gold 2. Are you comfortable with him on that mixed
line? What positions will everyone on the line play? If you like what you see, tell your assistant coach

If the puck is in our end, having him skate to the bench extends the power play and that is
unacceptable. However, it is also unacceptable to have him go into the play and have three
defensemen with no one certain as to what their responsibilities are. Keep it simple and do not change
the process. Go back to SECOND in our prior example and treat the defenseman as if he is a forward.
He will play a role customary for a forward until a play stoppage or the puck comes out of our end and
we change on the fly. As an example, since kids normally play better on the same wing they shoot
from, if the defenseman shoots right handed, think of him as a right wing. I have also had success with
a defenseman coming out of the box to play center if there were three rotations. In our normal
defensive system in the defensive zone, the center plays low and helps the defense. There is a regular
rotation between defense and center. Therefore, our defensemen are comfortable playing center for
this limited purpose in our end. This may not work for you if you use a different defensive scheme.
Either way, make sure all know what the plan is. Again, we are not looking for three rotations, but we
are planning in case it ends up that

Deforestation of the Pacific Northwest
Deforestation of the Pacific Northwest One of the most controversial areas associated with the global
problem of deforestation is the Pacific Northwest of the US. The problem can be broken down into
several issues that all tie in together. These include the near extinction of the Northern Spotted Owl,
the business aspect of logging versus the environmental aspect, and the role of the government in this
problem. In 1973, the Endangered Species Act (ESA) was passed. This enabled the Dept. of
Commerce and Dept. of the Interior to place species, either land or marine, as either threatened or
endangered. Under these terms species could no longer be hunted, collected, injured or killed. The

Guest speaker Jerry Howe would fall into this category as a private land owner. As a land steward, he
believes he can do what he wants with his land. The term steward is used to mean that no one can
truly own the land, it can only be used or under the care of a person. He uses clear cutting when it has
the smallest effect on the environment, he also uses strip cutting in which the forest is cut in strips to
provide a buffer zone and is more aesthetically pleasing. His methods are better for the forest due to
conservative forestry practices that speed up the regeneration of the forest. This produces a more
sustainable yield than clear cutting alone. While neither of these techniques is good for the
environment, using wise management practices can still produce a large profit while conserving
precious ecosystems. For large companies, such as Pacific Lumber, to switch to using conservative
forestry practices would take more than proposals by environmentalists and the Forest Service to help
the environment to change their current ways. For these companies to switch, it would cost them
money to follow the more sustainable approach while also decreasing their profit due to less tree
cutting in the short term. In my opinion, it is up to the government to set standards that force these
companies to switch by making regulations more strict as well as a greater number of them if need be.

They run the country according to their own desire. But when it comes the period of King John 1199

Creative Industries And The Creative Industry
As an ever evolving concept, the creative industries as as hard to define as creativity itself. Academia
is struggling to keep up with the growing global interest in these ideas. (De Beukelaer, 2015) A
creative industry is defined as unpredictability, rapid shift in trends and fashions (Lee, 2015, p. 141).
Products that are innovative and novel, satisfying the rapidly changing needs and demands of a
globalized society. (Lee, 2015) Lee (2015) identified two common strands of creative industry
research. The first focuses on the development of creative industries and the second on place
promotion : using arts and culture to promote or rejuvenate urban areas. (Lee, 2015) The know why,
know how, know who, know when and know from (Lee, 2015) are critical to development within the
creative industries. The constant demand for innovative products creates a need for a centralized
knowledge bases among the firms and freelancers of the creative industries. Access to this base,
providing information on job opportunities, new commodities and methods and new collaborators is
critical for maintaining a competitive advantage. (Lee, 2015) There are three key concepts that
facilitate the sharing of said knowledge: clusters, buzz and degree of commonality. (Lee, 2015) This
knowledge is transferred primarily through face to face interactions and the individuals sharing
information are referred to as actors. (Lee, 2015) A large amount of literature focuses on the

Cause for Action
Imagine a country where a person s belongings could be taken at any moment and then given to
someone else for no apparent reason. Likewise, that same person s culture, their way of life, would be
disregarded, and they would be forced to use a new language and adapt to a different culture. After the
culture is done away with, those who remember it die off rapidly. Even with the declining culture,
religious persecution becomes apparent along with the long political conflicts. This very incident
occurred at the end of the 19th century. It happened in Ireland to the Gaelic culture, but a man by the
name of Douglas Hyde wasn t about to let his culture disappear. Thus the Gaelic League was created.

Many Irish then tried to immigrate to America. What used to be a small amount of immigrants, turned
into a flood of Irish wanting to leave Ireland. Because of the high demand of people wanting to leave
quickly, the normal route of stopping in Liverpool turned into a straight shot to America. Most
immigrants died en route from diseases, and many died when ships frequently would sink, due to
holding more than their maximum capacity. This was one reason for a tremendous drop in the Irish
population.
By 1891, 14.5% of the Irish nation claimed to speak the language.
The Gaelic Athletic Association was a vital precursor to the formation of the Gaelic League. It was
established on November 1st, 1884. One of the Gaelic Athletic Association s goals was to construct
games promoting the Gaelic culture, and provide rules and encouragement to the people of Ireland to
participate in Irish recreation and sports. It first concerned itself with the athletics. The association set
up competitions at local parishes and other places throughout the counties. This renewed a sensation
of pride for the disturbed Irish people. Once after a hurling match in 1885, approximately fifteen
thousand people attended a meeting by the Gaelic Athletic Association in support of the athletics
which was a significant success for the association. Not long after, the first ALL Ireland finals were

The Importance Of Violence In Sunday Bloody Sunday
Evil is extremely apparent in the world today, but for how long will people stand idly by as it
continues to worsen? The song Sunday Bloody Sunday, written by U2, suggests that the only valid
response to the violence that occurred in Northern Ireland in the 1970s is condemnation. The writers
not only condemn the brutality of that time, but, in a broader sense, condemn violence as a whole,
showing that there are no positive outcomes to violence, only more violence. Therefore, people must
rise up, united against the violence that exists in this world today.
An important aspect that is important to understand, regarding the theme of Sunday Bloody Sunday, is
the historical context around which it was written. Although U2 wrote the song specifically about an
event that took place on January 30, 1972, or Bloody Sunday, the violence was a part of a more
complicated and long running issue between Ireland and England. This violence also took place as a
result of a civil rights movement in Ireland that occurred from 1968 to 1969. Many of these activists
looked up to people like Martin Luther King, Jr. for inspiration about peaceful protest. Nonetheless, in
1969, after multiple occasions of violence at protests, the British troops assumed riot duty (Pringle and
Larson). This event became one of the inciting incidents that led to the violence that happened on
Bloody Sunday, only a few years later.
The issues with protesting, despite the presence of British troops, did not

Pros And Cons Of Currency War
The phrase Currency War was used to describe the efforts of nations to devalue their own currencies,
in order to increase their competitiveness of export in the international market. In the context of the
reading, major players in the currency war from 2010 to 2013 included the U.S., European countries,
China, Switzerland, and Japan, each using different ways in devaluing the domestic currency: the US
printed a lot of money via quantitative easing (QE) ; China controlled capital inflows through
accumulating foreign currency reserve and undervaluing renminbi; Switzerland prohibited the franc to
appreciate further against the euro; and Japan announced the unlimited purchasing of government
bonds which increases money supply to counter economic downturn. Opponents contended that policy
decisions such as QE are beggar they neighbor actions while they eased domestic economic downturn
in the developed countries alone, the price of such behavior was to be shifted to the international

Marais atmosphere. The tradition dates back to 2005, the first time I experienced the crisp Lake

family experiences can be traced back to Grand Marais. Every year we celebrate America s birthday

God expects individuals that call themselves Christian to grow spiritually. The Word of God
encourages personal examination as a part of the growth process, as found in Psalm 139:23 24: Search
me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my concerns. See if there is any offensive way in me;
lead me in the everlasting way. Becoming more Christ like focuses on how He works in us and not on
our work for Him. The Cycle of Works demonstrates that regardless of work we complete, the

According to Ruth Haley Barton in Sacred Rhythms, individuals would then be able to understand
what their personal minimum requirements are for ongoing spiritual growth.
My model for spiritual formation in the local church would include spiritual, relational, and missional
aspects such as personal devotions, spiritual friendships, participating in corporate worship, and
serving God s Kingdom.
Spiritual. Daily time spent in prayer along with a regular, unhurried time in the Bible is essential for
growth. In the Bible, growth is linked to spiritual maturity and becoming more like Jesus (Romans
12:1 2, 2 Corinthians 3:18). Time in prayer, at the beginning and the end of day
Relational. The ministry of Jesus was focused on people and meeting their needs. Spending time with
others, both individually and through corporate gatherings, is modeled throughout the Bible.
Fellowship with other believers in small groups allows individuals to forge relationships and develop
accountability at some level. These deeper bonds demonstrate to others their love for God and others
by loving God s Law, obeying it by God s grace, and allowing it to lead to Jesus Christ for
transformation into His image.
Missional. The totality of spiritual growth can be summed up in Matthew 22:37 39; that all of spiritual
growth should be measured against increased love for God and increased love of our neighbor.

Nullification Crisis Significance
The Nullification Crisis was significant. The Nullification Crisis started in 1828 when the Congress
passed a very high tariff on manufactured goods from Europe. The Southerners started protesting
against tariffs and called to secede from the United States. Since anger of tariffs continued to build in
the South, the Congress passed a new, lower tariff in 1832, hoping that the protest in the South would
die down. However, the South Carolina legislature passed the Nullification act, an act refusing to pay
the illegal tariffs of 1828 and 1832. If the federal government interfered then the South will continue
calling for secession and the union will split apart. The significance of the Nullification Crisis was that

social advantages plus real life conflicts, and learn information in a fun way. Many simulated violent
games portray lessons that are normally learned in boring, regular, or old fashioned ways making it
unappealing to kids of all ages. To get a message, lesson, or theme across games with simulated

Junie B Jones Character Analysis
The Destructive Influence of Junie B. Jones The Junie B. Jones series has become extremely popular
over the years. There are many people that love the stories because of how witty Junie B. is. It is also
true that a large number of children can connect with her since Barbra Park created the series with
Junie B. speaking in first person as the narrator. However, there are a lot of concerns with the amount
of disrespect seen by Junie. Additionally, there could be an educational confusion for children who are
trying to learn to read and pronounce words correctly. The Junie B. Jones series basically glorifies
being bad, not listening to adults and using language that a five or six year old should not be using.
The ruthless actions and improper usage of communication by Junie B. in the Junie B. Jones series can
be very confusing and misleading for the young children that are expected to read these books.
Character Choices The different types of characters in Junie B. Jones and a Little Monkey Business
play important roles in the story. The diverse age groups help to show how Junie B. is disrespectful to
all of those that surround her. The main characters are Junie B. Jones, Mother, Daddy, Grampa Miller,
Grandma Miller, Lucille, that Grace, Mrs., that mean Jim, Ollie and the principle. These characters are
very effective because they add to the story in their own individual ways. They were made to help
keep the audience laughing, but in reality they just help by adding more people that Junie B. is
disrespectful to in the story.
Ruthless Actions
Junie B. is characterized as an ungrateful and spoiled child. With that being said, many people believe
that the actions of Junie B. Jones are minor and can be seen as fun and playful since her age. However,
these are not the average actions of the well mannered six and seven year olds that may be reading the
books. The way that the story is written makes children think that it is okay to have unacceptable
behavior at a very young age. Junie B. continuously acts out and is regularly disobedient. The series
more or less makes light of bad behavior. It is supposed to be funny when Junie B. does not respond to
her parents when they are trying to speak to her, or when she

Piper Alpha Failure
Piper Alpha was an oil rig that was constructed for Occidental group to drill for oil in one of the most
dangerous environments in the world the North Sea. Piper Alpha went operational in 1976 and began
to extract oil from the ocean floor, this process brought oil, gas and water to the station where oil was
separated from gas and water. Next the gas was cooled to remove the gas condensate liquid.
Condensates are pumped back into the oil and the mixture travels to the shore refinery. Excess gas is
then burned off in a process called flaring. According to NASA On July, 6, 1988 the worker was
performing a maintenance check and remove the pressure safety valve from pump A and use a round
metal plate to shut the open pipe, before the worker could ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The inquiry found that the system for which shift commutated information was very inadequate which
led the second shift workers to honestly believe that pump A was fine. This fact was backed by a
complete lack of centralized system to share important info between shifts. The inquiry also found that
management deactivated the automatic system for fire suppression whenever divers were in the water
which could be as long as 12 hours. The station also had a massive design flaw in which multiple
massive gas pipelines were connected to a single gas pipe to piper alpha which would take hours to
reduce the pipelines pressure if an emergency happened. The station also leaked around 100 million
gallons of oil into the North Sea cause the greatest spill of oil until the B.P disaster in the Gulf of
Mexico. Piper alpha was also the largest manmade disaster at the time and costed the Occidental
group 3.4 billion dollars in cleanup and settlements to the families that lost love one at the oil rig. The
aftermath of Piper Alpha was a complete rehaul of safety processes on oil rigs. The disaster prompt the
U.K government to pass over a 100 new safety Procedures and harder regulations regarding the use of
oil rigs in the North Sea. The U.K government also change who managements these safety of the oil
rigs from the department of energy to the department of health and safety. I learned from the research
regarding this disaster that even if a system looks soiled on paper and in practiced it can always be

Holquest On Armenia
In Peter Holquest s The Politics and Practice of the Russian Occupation Armenia, he examines the
changes and goals of the Russian policies towards the Armenian community. Holquest begins to
explain that Russian policy towards Armenia during World War 1 was to dupe the Armenians. The
policy was to allow the Russians to use the Armenians against the Ottoman Turks; this was also a
means to annex Turkish Armenia. The policy remains unchanged from 1912 to early 1916; the
Russian government avoid any measures that might antagonize the Ottomans (3). The Russian
government began to realize that pressing reforms would antagonize the Ottomans and only cause
them to reject any sort of treaties or advice. As Turkey began to implement military operations against
in 1914, Russian looked at Armenians as allies and as an threat to the Ottomans. Nicholas II
proclaimed that a brilliant future awaits Armenia which was not entirely true due to anger under
tsarists rule. An interesting part of his writing is about colonization; Holquest tells the audience that
there were accounts that called for a Russian plan to prevent the return of Armenians (17). It came
from a memorandum which did not rely on Russian government s policy, but stems from the Ministry
of Agriculture s overarching agenda. The agenda was occupied lands and seek any means to achieve

Essay on Social Class in Great Expectations by Charles...
Charles Dickens, author of Great Expectations, provides a perfect example of the hope of class
mobility. The novel portrays very diverse and varied social classes which spread from a diligent,
hardworking peasant (Joe) to a good natured middle class man (Mr. Wemmick) to a rich, beautiful
young girl (Estella). Pip, in particular, elevates in the social pyramid from a common boy to a
gentleman with great expectations. With his rise in society, he also alters his attitude, from being a
caring child to an apathetic gentleman. During this process, Pip learns how he should act and how to
become a real gentleman. Social mobility and wealth, furthermore, carves a disposition and how a
character is looked upon.
Pip, the main character is a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In addition, Pip s improvement changes the outlook that is perceived by others of him. For example,
after Pip learns how to be a gentleman, Biddy began to address Pip as Mr. Pip . Also, The Blue Boar, a
local inn treats him differently by how when he was affluent, he was accommodated with the best
room. On the other hand, when he had lost all his riches, the Blue Boar only provided him with an
indifferent room among the pigeons.
Wemmick is considered to be a strange, middle class man, who serves as a clerk for Jaggers. When the
he first meets Wemmick, Pip characterizes Wemmick as an uptight, insensitive man. However, later,
when Pip goes to Wemmick s house he realizes that he is a funny, family friendly man. Given that he
is in the middle class, he is not affected by money. Additionally, he is less concerned about amount of
money he has and just concerns about his father, known as The Aged, and his wife, Miss Skiffins.
In contrast to Wemmick, who can live in a jailhouse and his own middle class home, Estella, another
character in Dickens novel, can only function in an enhanced civilization. She is represented as one of
the higher society since she is adopted by a wealthy, aged woman, Miss Havisham. Ironically, her true
father is a convict and her mother is a servant for Jaggers. Because of her affluence, she treats others,
of lower status,

The Thin Blue Line Essay
In The Thin Blue Line, directed and written by Errol Morris, he challenges our preconceptions and
expectations of documentary films by showing viewers a series of lies by using cinéma vérité
interviews that are in medium shot, eye level to allow the audience to make a connection to each
person who is being interviewed regardless if their statements are untrue. In fact, with Errol Morris
filmmaking skills in the opening credits with the text of the word Blue is actually in red and the non
diegetic sound score by Philip Glass creates a setting of pending action. The transitions of black

In fact, if Turko was following protocol and got out of the car to assist Wood. How was the milkshake
thrown and later found in evidence? Why were her statements so vague and unreliable? Personally, I
think Turko was not following protocol. The key witness such as David Harris swears that he was in
the passenger seat when the incident accrued and that he saw Adams kill Wood. Next, Emily Miller
maintained that she got a good look at the driver and it was Adams, later to find out that it was untrue.
Then there is R.L. Miller who claimed he got a good look at the driver who was Adams, however,
later to find out that he did not see anything and was in it for the money. Finally, there is Michael
Randell who also claimed that he got a good look at the driver who was Adams; however, his
testimony is for favorable treatment by Dallas Police and D.A office. With that said, the film show the
injustice in our justice system where witnesses can be cohorts by the police and D.A office just to win

The Benefits Of Technology In Education
According to Pathways, if a child can t read at grade level by the fourth grade he or she is unlikely to
ever catch up. However, growing up in a world full of technology in high tech classrooms, children
are able to have an advantage in learning. Schools and teachers are involving technology in their
student s school work and everyday tasks. As they grow older, the effects in learning vary for each
individual, especially in their adult years. Some adult jobs involve technology which affects adults in
their learning especially if they grew up without it. Living in the 21st century, there are pros and cons
of how technology can help you or someone not only learn, but also use it for literary reasons.
According to our survey, 95.2% individuals grew up with television in which helped them have a basis
on learning such as Dora the Explorer, Blue s Clues, and Sesame Street. Kids basically learned colors,
alphabets, and numbers in a fun way watching their favorite characters on screen. Also in our first
source, a man named K. Ciampa did a study to prove the fact that developing comprehension skills,
vocabulary, and complex thinking is an essential starting factor for elementary kids. Teachers are then
challenged to find ways to encourage their students to not only continue reading but to become
stronger readers. He states that incorporating reading within technology engages the students more
and affects their progress in their reading (Ciampa). Nowadays, teachers are using and

Hicok And Terrell Summary
An important aspect about the readings from Hicok (2000) and Terrell (1999) is that the two of them
were focusing on minority students, who first language is not English. Information about the level of
reading and knowledge about phonemics makes a great difference to understand the type of population
that the researchers were working on.
One thing that I would like that Hicok (2000) share with the readers was to explain the meaning of
ESL B2 students. On page 3, the author mentioned that there were 22 seventh grade students in three
different sciences classes who were ESL B2. I assume that B2 could be Block 2 if the school have its
school year by block. However, that information is not available in the researcher s paper. Hicok
(2000) mentioned the use of quiz and tests as part for describing the qualitative data that the author
was gathering, however, there is no report on this paper about the tests scores of the students. The
author said that more time is needed to analyze the quantitative data about tests and scores.
Regarding ethics, I think that both authors failed in protecting the confidentiality of the students. First,
both studies have been done at Fairfax County (VA) Public Schools District (Hicok, 2000; Terrell,
1999). By knowing the school district, it will be easy ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
During the paper, the author did not mention the use of pseudonyms to protect the identity of the
students. According to Efron and Ravid (2013), study participants should not be put in harm s way or
suffer in any way in the name of research. (p. 77). It is important that when an action research is
performed, the researcher must obtain permission from parents and participants, ensure
confidentiality, have informed consent, respect the research site, and guarantee the safety of
participants (Efron Ravid,

  • 2. Mate Selection Theories Mate Selection Theories in Action Choosing a life partner is a crucial task that majority of individuals, if not everyone, partake in sometime during their lifetime. This process is otherwise known as mate selection (White, Martin, Bartolic, 2013). Since mate selection is such an important aspect of any individual s life, it would make sense that it is an area that has been researched extensively. There are a number of mate selection theories in existence, but this paper will focus on looking at biosocial theory and equity theory specifically. I find biosocial theory quite intriguing because it is something I can see while living out my everyday life. This specific mate selection theory states that women are more selective of partners ... The story was timed well and shortened from the original biography of Corrie Ten Boom, The Hiding Place. This story is mostly about how a Christian with so much faith can change the world. In the book many times Corrie shows compassion and forgiveness. This book takes place in the Netherlands. I like history and this was a great story given during WWII, during the Nazi reign. The story starts off slow not much going on, except Corrie is sick. Her parents think that she has tuberculosis, which was incurable back then. However, she later find out that it is not tuberculosis it is appendicitis. Her family owns a clock shop, so when the Nazi s first start to take control they are nice to the Ten Boom s. Corrie and Betsie spent 10 months in three different prisons, the last of which was Ravensbruck Concentration Camp near Berlin. Betsie died at Ravensbruck, but Corrie lived and got of the Concentration Camp to tell her story. While Corrie was in Ravensbruck, she never gave into despair. When people would fight for their own survival, she would give her life for them. In the harshness of the camps Corrie would always pray for other people and give them hope. One quote from her shows her faith toward God, There is no pit so deep that God s love is not deeper still. This was quote was amazing because of what she endured in the death camps. • 4. Jesus Made In America By Stephen J. Nicholas When I was reading the book Jesus Made in America by Stephen J. Nicholas, I came across a very interesting chapter titled Jesus on Vinyl . This chapter discussed in detail the state of the use of Jesus in contemporary music from the 1950s up to the current times. Back 3in the 1950s there were contemporary artists who putting out albums of hymns, like Johnny Cash s Hymns of Johnny Cash. Not surprisingly, the most significant time for Christian gospel music was during the hippie era in the 1960s. During that time, gospel, youth, and music had merged together into songs that preached about Christ and love. Many people became Christians during that time to protest the ongoing war in Vietnam so it would make sense that they would start to make that a main topic in the music of that time. Hippies usually referred to themselves as the Jesus People (named by Duane Pederson who was one of the leaders in Los Angeles) which led to this movement called the Jesus Movement. They claimed to not be a part of the hippie culture that they were born out of nor were they a part of the fundamental church. This caught the attention of several media outlets which drew more people do the Jesus Peoples welcoming environment. Many baptisms happened during this time, like in 1967 when Ted and Liz Wise converted four couples into becoming followers of Jesus, usually while on drugs. The people being baptized actually believed that they were being cleansed while still being intoxicated. They ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Mrs Luna In The Bostonians The Bostonians: Who is in Charge of the Narrative? The Bostonians begins with an intriguing tirade by which Adeline Luna preannounces the appearance of her sister, Olive Chancellor, who is one of the most enigmatic and attractive characters in Henry James novels and who will be the answer to question in the title. Olive will come down in about ten minutes says Mrs. Luna (James 3) , entering the room where Basil Ransom, the sister s cousin from Mississippi, has waited for his hostess who wrote for him to come to Boston. About ten, Mrs. Luna adds to her previous statement and puts rather rambling comments to that, saying [t]hat is exactly like Olive. The omniscient narrator, who explains characters for the reader, in The Bostonians, interestingly, append seemingly unnecessary explanation about the way the narrator s mind understands the characters, referring to himself like a character in the novel. Crime rate in Chicago is spread over murder, rape, assault, robbery, and many other heinous crimes. The city does not know where to turn next, as their rates keep spiraling out of control. Fatal crime in Chicago is higher than almost anywhere else in the United States, and that s what needs to be controlled. Chicago is one of the most dangerous cities in America and that can be supported because of its significant crime rate. Not just the last couple of years, but for decades now. Statistics show that murder has the lowest rate per 100,000 people and rape has the second lowest. It is good that the most vicious crimes are at a minimum, but the number per capita needs to be emphasized, (per 100,000). Out of the 25 different districts in Chicago, each one has its own statistics and reports on the crimes that happen in their area. Their city wide crime stats just reinforce the high in theft and burglary and the low in murder and sex related crimes. With reference to their rates being a rollercoaster, between 2013 and 2017, murder crimes raised nearly 58% within those four years and 41% for rape and sex related crimes. On the other hand, theft and burglary actually went down by 27%. Even though there s more of that than anything else, it is still reducing and that is something to acknowledge. In total, all crimes thrown together for a city wide rate is reducing by 8%. This means that their criminal behavior is going lower in most areas, but not enough. Though people believe statistics when they come from a valid source, it is hard to precisely measure the decrease and increase of crimes in a city. Even the FBI sent a warning about such a thing, because they are aware that statistics like these can impact a city heavily. The FBI aimed to simplistic and/or incomplete analyses that often create misleading perceptions adversely affecting communities and their residents. It s presumed that legitimate statistics ... In the hospital, his mental status declined and a palliative care physician was consulted. The doctor noted that Mr. Turner did not have the mental capacity to make decisions and his hospital doctor, Dr. Roper, claimed that the patient told him to withhold all life sustaining medical treatment, even though this was not documented. Over a period of time and deliberation among the medical staff, the decision was made to withdraw dialysis and send Mark back to a nursing home on hospice, overriding his wishes of CPR and intubation if necessary (CPOS, 2013). The hypothesis then gets translated into goals and objectives that provide a framework for action, a general direction for the program, a timeframe, details tasks, and clearly states program expectations, which then provides a foundation for monitoring, performance measurement, and evaluation (Kettner, et. al, 2013). • 10. Analysis Of Twelve Angry Men By Reginald Rose Extended Analysis Twelve Angry Men Justice is a concept that is crucial to a fair and just society. For hundreds of years, countries have developed constitutions and other documents in place to form justice for those within the country. In Twelve Angry Men by Reginald Rose, the idea of justice is bounced around by twelve men on a jury. These men have the unthinkable decisions of whether a suspected murderer is given the death penalty or able to walk free. The jury in Twelve Angry Men made the most just decision they could. To understand how the decision they made was just and to explain some background, this essay will cover a few major ideas. It will talk about how Reginald Rose included the ideas of: reasonable doubt, being innocent until proven guilty, the jury system, and public defenders. Twelve Angry Men touches on one of the key principles of the American criminal justice system. This is the belief of the defendant being innocent until proven guilty. The idea is to give every person a fair trial that follows the rules set forth in the constitution. In Twelve Angry Men, a young man is on trial for the murder of his father. Many of the jurors jump to conclusions about the defendant s guilt because of his lack of wealth and his ethnicity. Several of jurors make comments similar to these people and kids like this are always up to no good (Rose 24). This shows an assumption based not on the person, but on a very broad, vague, and stereotypical view. The biggest ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. Night, By Eliezer Wiesel There are many important themes and overtones to the book Night, by Eliezer Wiesel. One of the major themes from the book includes the protagonist, and author of his memoire, Elie Wiesel s ever changing relationship with God. An example of this is when Moche the Beadle asked Elie an important question that would change his life forever, as the basis of his passion and aptitude for studying the ancient texts and teachings of Judaism, When Moche the Beadle asked Elie why he prayed, Elie couldn t think of an answer that truly described his faith, and thought, a strange question, why did I live, why did I breathe? (Wiesel 14). The book begins describing Elie s religious teacher of the Kabbalah, Moshe the Beadle, as a jack of all trades, or the go to man for advice or jobs. Kabbalah is a type of religious study derived from Judaism. It is very rare and only practiced by a small part of the Jewish population, this includes Rabbis. This is because you can only study Kabbalah, written in the Zohar text, or other subcategories of Jewish mysticism, until you have mastered the Tora and Talmud. Kabbalah is a very advanced level of religion and interpretation. The book takes place during the span of World War II, and continues through Elie s perspective, as a prisoner, persecuted due to his religion as a Jewish student. • 20. The Pacific Bluefin Tuna Is An Valuable Valued Specie Introduction The Pacific Bluefin Tuna is an incredibly valued specie who has been doomed for decades. Although the IUCN has listed this specie as vulnerable, they are far becoming more endangered to the point of extinction. Their population remains at 4% of what they were before commercial fishers began capturing them by the thousands (The IUCN Red List, 2014). The Pacific Bluefin Tuna is one of the largest and fastest fishes in the ocean. Overfishing is a problem because Bluefin Tuna is responsible for keeping population numbers in check, thus creating detrimental effects if the biodiversity were to be threaten and the ecosystem were to become imbalanced. Furthermore, the Bluefin Tuna have fallen victim to becoming targeted and non targeted species by fisherman. Purse seine fishing is the number one fishing method used to catch the Tuna. However, long line fishing also poses as a threat because they are unintentionally caught in by catches, creating an unnecessary waste. In addition, studies demonstrate that Japan has the largest number of catches. Japan s economy has the most to loose if they do not protect their valued specie. They have made little efforts for change and the ISC concluded that current levels of fishing have now become unsustainable. It has been concluded that this stock will continue to decline in 2018 (Nickson, 2018). This specie has fallen a tragedy of the commons model due to individuals trying to gain the greatest benefit, without realizing what the long term effects would be when the demands of the resource overwhelms the supply. This will hurt the well being of multiple societies, and most important, the well being of the Bluefin Tuna. The ISC stated that these species need new management plans to ensure it s sustainability. Statistical Analysis Of Organ Damage Introduction The HSE demanded a statistical report and analysis of the laboratory data, which could be used as evidence of particular sectors of chemical industry causing potential health hazards for their employees. For the purpose of this analysis a sample of people coming from four different sectors of chemical industry had their blood tested for LDH 1 and LDH 5 levels (Intercellular enzyme that determines cell damage in various organs). The degree of organ damage, in this case liver damage, can be simply assessed by looking at the values of the ratio of those two enzymes: the higher the ratio of LDH 1 and LDH 5 is, the worse the degree of liver damage is (nurseslearning.com). This is how we can compare worker s health state and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One method of assessing the level of liver damage is to measure the ratio of LDH 5 to LDH 1. To begin the statistical analysis of the data provided, we need to present the statistical description of it, take a general look at the means and medians for each sector and test the normal distribution of the data to see if we can undertake any further test. As presented in the boxplot and in the descriptive statistics, the highest mean of the LDH1 to LDH5 ratio is associated with plasticizer manufacturing. Further examination and testing of the data is necessary to determine whether there is a significant statistical difference between each industry and health hazard associated with it, measured by LDH enzyme levels. First of all it is worth to take a look at any outliers that may affect a distribution of the data. Outliers affecting distribution: De greasing outliers: Female,34, 2 years of service Dry cleaning outliers: Male,33,15 years of service Female, 60, 34 years of service Plasticizer manufacturing outlier: Male, 35, 14 years of service The data set seems to have many outliers and what is more the Q1 and Q3 the quartiles are of a different distance from the median, which makes the whole distribution unsymmetrical. Concerns during the initial release were caused by the fact that the wearer can film or take pictures with out the subject(s) knowing or giving consent. As a result, negative consequences, such as speculation against Google, along with customer assault and isolation began to make face. Customers were targeted and harassed for supporting the product, which worked to both stunt market growth, and lower Google s reputation. Not soon after, social media sites took wind of the escalating situation and assisted in a major backlash against the new product. Overall, the failure of the Google Glass explorer program directly resulted from the prevalence of these unforeseen privacy issues. Removing the camera feature from the device would ultimately eradicate that concern, while they would continue to provide all the other functions that wearables are known for. He uses clear cutting when it has the smallest effect on the environment, he also uses strip cutting in which the forest is cut in strips to provide a buffer zone and is more aesthetically pleasing. His methods are better for the forest due to conservative forestry practices that speed up the regeneration of the forest. This produces a more sustainable yield than clear cutting alone. For large companies, such as Pacific Lumber, to switch to using conservative forestry practices would take more than proposals by environmentalists and the Forest Service to help the environment to change their current ways. For these companies to switch, it would cost them money to follow the more sustainable approach while also decreasing their profit due to less tree cutting in the short term. The song Sunday Bloody Sunday, written by U2, suggests that the only valid response to the violence that occurred in Northern Ireland in the 1970s is condemnation. The writers not only condemn the brutality of that time, but, in a broader sense, condemn violence as a whole, showing that there are no positive outcomes to violence, only more violence. Therefore, people must rise up, united against the violence that exists in this world today. An important aspect that is important to understand, regarding the theme of Sunday Bloody Sunday, is the historical context around which it was written. Although U2 wrote the song specifically about an event that took place on January 30, 1972, or Bloody Sunday, the violence was a part of a more complicated and long running issue between Ireland and England. This violence also took place as a result of a civil rights movement in Ireland that occurred from 1968 to 1969. Many of these activists looked up to people like Martin Luther King, Jr. for inspiration about peaceful protest. • 44. Junie B Jones Character Analysis The Destructive Influence of Junie B. Jones The Junie B. Jones series has become extremely popular over the years. There are many people that love the stories because of how witty Junie B. is. It is also true that a large number of children can connect with her since Barbra Park created the series with Junie B. speaking in first person as the narrator. However, there are a lot of concerns with the amount of disrespect seen by Junie. Additionally, there could be an educational confusion for children who are trying to learn to read and pronounce words correctly. The Junie B. Jones series basically glorifies being bad, not listening to adults and using language that a five or six year old should not be using. The ruthless actions and improper usage of communication by Junie B. in the Junie B. Jones series can be very confusing and misleading for the young children that are expected to read these books. Character Choices The different types of characters in Junie B. Jones and a Little Monkey Business play important roles in the story. The diverse age groups help to show how Junie B. is disrespectful to all of those that surround her. The main characters are Junie B. Jones, Mother, Daddy, Grampa Miller, Grandma Miller, Lucille, that Grace, Mrs., that mean Jim, Ollie and the principle. These characters are very effective because they add to the story in their own individual ways. They were made to help keep the audience laughing, but in reality they just help by adding more people that Junie B. is disrespectful to in the story. Ruthless Actions Junie B. is characterized as an ungrateful and spoiled child. With that being said, many people believe that the actions of Junie B. Jones are minor and can be seen as fun and playful since her age. However, these are not the average actions of the well mannered six and seven year olds that may be reading the books. The way that the story is written makes children think that it is okay to have unacceptable behavior at a very young age. Junie B. continuously acts out and is regularly disobedient. The series more or less makes light of bad behavior. It is supposed to be funny when Junie B. does not respond to her parents when they are trying to speak to her, or when she ... • 46. Holquest On Armenia In Peter Holquest s The Politics and Practice of the Russian Occupation Armenia, he examines the changes and goals of the Russian policies towards the Armenian community. Holquest begins to explain that Russian policy towards Armenia during World War 1 was to dupe the Armenians. The policy was to allow the Russians to use the Armenians against the Ottoman Turks; this was also a means to annex Turkish Armenia. The policy remains unchanged from 1912 to early 1916; the Russian government avoid any measures that might antagonize the Ottomans (3). The Russian government began to realize that pressing reforms would antagonize the Ottomans and only cause them to reject any sort of treaties or advice. As Turkey began to implement military operations against in 1914, Russian looked at Armenians as allies and as an threat to the Ottomans. Nicholas II proclaimed that a brilliant future awaits Armenia which was not entirely true due to anger under tsarists rule. However, growing up in a world full of technology in high tech classrooms, children are able to have an advantage in learning. Schools and teachers are involving technology in their student s school work and everyday tasks. As they grow older, the effects in learning vary for each individual, especially in their adult years. Some adult jobs involve technology which affects adults in their learning especially if they grew up without it. Living in the 21st century, there are pros and cons of how technology can help you or someone not only learn, but also use it for literary reasons. According to our survey, 95.2% individuals grew up with television in which helped them have a basis on learning such as Dora the Explorer, Blue s Clues, and Sesame Street. Kids basically learned colors, alphabets, and numbers in a fun way watching their favorite characters on screen. Also in our first source, a man named K. Ciampa did a study to prove the fact that developing comprehension skills, vocabulary, and complex thinking is an essential starting factor for elementary kids. Teachers are then challenged to find ways to encourage their students to not only continue reading but to become stronger readers. He states that incorporating reading within technology engages the students more and affects their progress in their reading (Ciampa). Nowadays, teachers are using and ... Hicok And Terrell Summary An important aspect about the readings from Hicok (2000) and Terrell (1999) is that the two of them were focusing on minority students, who first language is not English. Information about the level of reading and knowledge about phonemics makes a great difference to understand the type of population that the researchers were working on. One thing that I would like that Hicok (2000) share with the readers was to explain the meaning of ESL B2 students. On page 3, the author mentioned that there were 22 seventh grade students in three different sciences classes who were ESL B2. I assume that B2 could be Block 2 if the school have its school year by block. However, that information is not available in the researcher s paper. Hicok (2000) mentioned the use of quiz and tests as part for describing the qualitative data that the author was gathering, however, there is no report on this paper about the tests scores of the students. The author said that more time is needed to analyze the quantitative data about tests and scores. Regarding ethics, I think that both authors failed in protecting the confidentiality of the students. First, both studies have been done at Fairfax County (VA) Public Schools District (Hicok, 2000; Terrell, 1999). By knowing the school district, it will be easy ...
