Is Society Becoming too Dependent on Computers Essay
The computer has been one of man s most influential inventions, paving the way for greater
achievements with time. Today, computers have become an essential component in fulfilling everyday
tasks in both our professional and personal lives. Computers are used to store vast amounts of
information, and even replace humans in factories throughout the world. We must now ask ourselves,
is this reliance on computers aiding the human mind in achieving its full potential or rather replacing it
and hindering our progress? Society has now become dependant on computers. How does this
machine affect our youth and learning process? We have invented a machine with a greater, and faster
learning capacity as our own. A new generation has risen that have ... Show more content on

Many supporters from this group also point out that the computer can be controlled and that
computers are only as smart as we allow them to be, by themselves computers are quite dependant
machines. Supporters of the anti computer usage group state that computers hinder us more than they
aid us. They believe we have invented a machine with a greater and faster learning capacity and soon
there may be no need for us humans. Our sense of creativity and ingenuity is neither needed nor
utilized as we can easily use a computer application to achieve those once rare results by that of
human ingenuity. The internet through the use of the computer is now a medium for a number of
services, such as online chatting, social sites, and dating. Interactions between humans have suffered
with the use of these services. Those once memorable face to face moments have been replaced by a
few clicks of the keyboard and mouse. There are individuals who cannot survive without the computer
and in its absence suffer from depression and anxiety. In factories around the world, there are
computers doing the jobs of once hard working men and women. This not only contributes to the
unemployment rate, but also puts us in a position where we must question the need for humans in the
work place. Basic daily tasks are now unnecessarily achieved by the computer and our children are no
longer driven to improve on their mental and

An Examination Into The Respective Proofs Of St. Aquinas
An Examination into the Respective Proofs of St. Anselm and St. Aquinas During the Medieval
Period, philosophers shifted their focus primarily to proving the existence of God, as well as other
religious tenets. Two Saints of the Catholic Church, St. Anselm and St. Thomas Aquinas, developed
their own respective proofs for the existence of God. These proofs have gained fame over the
subsequent centuries and still face debate and comparison today. Although both St. Anselm and St.
Thomas Aquinas offer proofs for the existence of God, the proofs differ drastically due to the distinct
argumentative methods utilized by each author, as well as the differing overall strengths and
weaknesses each proof yields. To begin comparing the proofs, one must first state them. St. Anselm s
proof is most clearly described by defining God as that than which no greater can be conceived
(Melchert, 260). With this definition in mind, one can contemplate St. Augustine s Great Chain of
Being and realize that existence gives something more being, or more greatness, than non existence
(Melchert, 261). It follows, then, that we grasp an idea of God, which would be greater if it actually
existed, therefore it (our idea of God) exists. Anselm s definition of God and Augustine s theory of the
Great Chain of Being are the only requirements for Anselm s proof of the existence of God to work.
St. Thomas Aquinas actually posits five separate proofs, but due to length constraints, this paper will

Mr. Harvey Thought A Lot Essay
Mr. Harvey thought a lot. To say the least, time had been his only friend for years. Mr. Harvey was the
type of man to think all kinds of kooky and abstract things. He liked to think of how there had only
ever been one yellow paddle boat for hire amongst the numerous blue down at the rivers dock. He
thought of how on cheery spring days the children would beg their parents to leave a few minutes
earlier to snatch it up before the other kids did. He used to watch them for hours, the amusement on
their faces riding along the steady waters laughing at the other children because they got stuck in the
boring blue paddle boats. Time was funny like that he thought. Getting to the docks those couple
moments earlier than the other children, granted hours of joy because their yellow boat happened to
bet better than all the blues. He also thought them absurd, to Mr. Harvey colours were just colours, not
measures of happiness. But he knew the youths naivety was all that made them young.
He thought about Delilah s Deli which sat directly below his scungy old flat back in 1945. He used to
pick up one punnet of sun dried tomatoes, a 250g block of cheese and a small jar of pitted black olives
every Sunday morning at exactly 9:05, purely because that was when their stock was fresh and was
guaranteed to last the week. He remembered the betrayal he d felt when a little sign saying Closed For
Good swung like a newton s cradle on the door where the open sign used to hang. Mr. Harvey thought

What Is The Theme Of The Poem Good Night
The first stanza starts with the asking his father not to be soft on death meaning that he asks him not to
accept death quietly but to fight against it with full force, passion and bravery. Good night in the first
line refers to a good death, as it is clear that night represents death and the poet is motivating his father
resists death in a calm way. The use of the word rage shows the poet requesting his father to resist
death. The second stanza defines the attitude of wise men that realize that death is near. They can be
known as the men who will not accept death passively. They know that there is still a long journey and
a long way to go. Wise men in this case have unspoken words and goals to be achieved. Thus they
hold on to life till ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Burn and rave are usually associated with the passion of youth and thus the poet wants his father to
sing passionately. The close of day symbolizes the approaching death meaning that his father will
eventually die soon. In this case, the use of sad height may as well symbolize the closeness to death.
Gentle is used as an adjective that signifies the poet s father s personality. The poem: Do not go gentle
into that good night is structured in a villanelle. Thus the form of the villanelle reveals that it has a
refrain and self improvised lyrics in each stanza. Poetical devices are also used in this poem such as
alliteration that include the following: Do not go gentle into that goodnight Rage, rage against the
dying of the light. Blind eyes could blaze like meteors and be gay is an example of a simile used in the
poem. Curse, bless me now with your fierce tears, I pray is an example of an oxymoron where the
poet is asking his father to bless as well as curse him. Dylan Thomas had also shown the use of
parallelism describing the actions of three different men: wise men good men wild men . The speaker
requests that his father has the qualities of these kinds of men. The poet had also used contrasts in the
poem to emphasize and focus on the theme, which include the following: Gentle and rage night and
day light and dark blind and sight grave and grey curse and

Twisted Tornadoes
Whats a tornado s favorite game? Twister! Tornadoes cause a lot of damage, because they have high
wind speeds, kill and injure people, cover large amounts of land, they can mix with wild fire to cause
firenadoes, and they are on the ground so they are close to people and structures. Tornadoes happen
most often in the spring time, which is why it is called tornado season. Tornado Alley is where the
most tornadoes happen annually. Tornado Alley includes Oklahoma, Kansas, the Texas Panhandle,
Nebraska, Eastern South Dakota, and Eastern Colorado(12 Twisted Tornado Facts.).
A tornado is a type of natural disaster. Tornadoes are violent and destructive windstorms that happen
on land(Tornado). A windstorm cannot be considered a tornado until it has touched the ground.
Tornadoes form when moist warm air is trapped under cold dry air. When the warm air is pushed up, if
the conditions are right, the air will start to spin and a tornado will form(12 Twisted Tornado Facts).
Tornadoes can be very dangerous if you are caught in one, like the people of St. Louis in 1896, or the
people caught in the tornadoes of the tornado outbreak in 1974. In the past we didn t have technology
to help us predict tornadoes. Now we can predict them with 70% accuracy.
There was a tornado outbreak in 1947. Three hundred thirty people were killed, and two thousand and
five hundred were injured. One hundred forty eight tornadoes touched down in three states. In all,
there were tornadoes in 13

Risk Management Assessment Paper The effort to decrease and evaluate risks to patients, staff, and
organizational resources within a health care institution is defined as health care risk management. In
order for facilities to minimize financial loss is to reduce accidents and injuries. All health care
facilities and providers put risk management in to practice on a continuing basis. In 1985, the senior
officers of the The Health and Human Services (DHHS) decided that there was a need to implement
policies and procedures on risk management and risk assessment. There was a considerable amount of

Another risk is an organizational risk. This type of risk occurs when the management commitment,
political expectations, or legislative requirements to complete the project are impacted because the
project does not proceed. This type of risk looks very bad on the organizations and makes the
stakeholders question what type of organization they have invested in. Then you have technical risks.
These risks are associated with maintaining skilled staff, hardware and software dependencies,
application software, other infrastructure needs, and security vulnerabilities and safeguards (hhs.gov).
This type of risk affects the organization is a major way. If not handled in a proper manner, the
organization can be destroyed. The organization has to realize that the stakeholders are looking at this
very closely. They want to know that the organization is serious about the staff and that they are
skilled enough to handle what goes on in the organization. It is also important that no one is giving out
improper information. In order to mitigate these risks, the organization needs to have proper
education. How can a person with no education or experience solve any kind of risk problem? Of
course to some people it is a natural instinct to know how to resolve issues but they still must have
education to back up their

The Importance Of Transvestism In Japanese Culture
Transvestism was a common practice in a homosexual relationship. Transvestism is defined as the
practice of dressing and appearing like the other sex. In Japanese history, male homosexuality is seen
as gender misalignment, which is the totality of physical and behavioral traits that are designated by a
culture as masculine or feminine. Transvestism is shown through cross dressing males who appear as
females. This would be done to please their male partner s heterosexual interest and was apparent
throughout the societies of Japan. This was typical within samurai relationships, but there has been
cases of this found with the chigo cross dressing to please the monk elites. The ideology of cross
dressing was accepted and encouraged through the religious norms. They would do this to fulfill the
concept that they were in a relationship with a woman to suppress their desire to commit the sin of
sexual intercourse with a woman and continue the cycle of attachment. There is little effort to
differentiate among the categories of homosexual male, transsexual, transvestite, and drag queen
(McLelland 158). Cross dressing was most common in the Edo period because they felt the need to be
in touch with their feminine side due to the introduction of Bushido. The difference between
homosexual males, transsexual, transvestite, and drag queens was not apparent to the Japanese people.
All of them were seen as the same and necessary to fulfil the need of their male partner. The hero of

The Effects Of Deafness On Deaf Children
Deafness has been viewed as a negative label regarding someone with a hearing loss. The term Deaf is
considered to be a disability solely on the fact that an individual who is Deaf is not normal due to their
hearing loss. Most individuals do not believe that there are any benefits or positives from being Deaf,
nor do they believe that a Deaf individual will ever be able to live a happy and fulfilled life. Deaf
individuals do not view themselves as disabled nor do they view their lives as a loss, rather they view
their Deafness as a Gain. This is called Deaf Gain, meaning there are many positives that Deafness
brings to the world. According to H Dirksen Bauman and Joseph Murray, Deaf Gain is defined as a
reframing of deaf as a form of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to Deaf Studies scholar Ben Bahan, Deaf people are visually oriented to the world around
them (Deaf Studies Digital Journal, 2009). Therefore, Deaf individuals are more aware of their
surroundings in comparison to a hearing individual who uses an oral language to communicate. Using
a visual based language has a Gain to the Deaf individuals perception of understanding the world, but
hearing individuals can also benefit from learning a visual language, such as American Sign
Language.
Learning American Sign Language as a second language and becoming bilingual can help brain
development as well as academic success. According to Laura Ann Petitto who is a cognitive
neuroscientist explains that, being exposed to two languages from birth and in particular, being
exposed to a signed and spoken language from birth does not cause a child to be language delayed and
confused (Petitto, 2001), rather the brain can handle dual languages. Being bilingual can enhance
cognitive development and particularly learning sign language can increase reading and spelling
scores. Petitto found from her research that children who ve had early exposure to sign language are
actually stronger readers in English than children who are deaf and who have not had access to sign
language as well as monolingual hearing English children (Petitto, 2001). Sign language also helps
individuals master spelling by fingerspelling words. Although there are many benefits for brain

African Americ A Transformation For Blacks
During the years of 1860 1877 sacred improvements brought about a transformation for blacks. The
south was irritated at the Blacks since they had picked up their opportunity against the will of
numerous southern white men. African American had their opportunity again at the same time, they
needed to battle to pick up suffrage and social liberties. December 1865 imprints the most critical
crossroads in history for all African American in the United States of America. Black people was free

lives and to make life less demanding for their kids. Most African American still worked for the
whites, the vast majority of them were poor and under educated. African American attempted in each
and every approach to regard white southerner with the expectation that they would receive the same
appreciation consequently and be dealt with similarly yet, history had taught us that African American
needed to battle for all that they needed, have and seek. The African American have had a great deal of

Relevance Of Personality And Psychopathy
10.1.4 Relevance of personality and psychopathy in general
That the personality of a manager is a critical variable in their effectiveness is supported by the case
study, aspects of Hitler s personality being characteristically consistent, starting as empty lectures as a
young drifter, and being concretised when head of state. Whether his personality was a critical
variable in his effectiveness, or whether he happened to have a series of preoccupations that
articulated a zeitgeist in post war Germany unfortunately remains a conundrum.
Regarding the question of psychopathy as a critical variable for effective leadership, the research
proposes that the critical personality and behavioural variable for effective leadership is charisma ...

Machiavellian characterised by an extreme pragmatism, with the moral valence of the actions taken
managerially are judged by the moral legitimacy and significance of the objective. (Similar to Blake
and Mouton s managerial grid concern for task)
Criminal where both bad or evil ends and means are utilised and striven for.
Kantian with a moral emphasis on the Kantian categorical imperative of treating people as ends rather
than means, such that the managerial objective in no way can justify less than ideal treatment of
subordinates. (concern for persons in the managerial grid)
Ethical, where there is goodness of task in terms of the ends, (for example the UK charitable
requirement to be working for the public good ); and within which there is an expectation of a high
level of ethical practice or means .
A second organisational moral dichotomy explored in Ch 4 above was Paine s proposal that unethical
practice may be more efficacious, and that there is a balance to be drawn between economic and
ethical acceptability. A further four square matrix places economic acceptability/efficacy on the y axis,
and ethical acceptability on the x axis.

All job specifications and prices should be supplied in writing. Established companies with strong

California s Court Of Appeal
California s Court of Appeal Clarifies Application of anti SLAPP Statutes to Attorney Malpractice
Actions California s anti SLAPP statute (codified in Code of Civil Procedure section 425.16) protects
the Constitutional rights to freedom of speech and right of petition by subjecting any cause of action
that chills these rights to be subject to a special motion to strike. In the context of a complaint against
an attorney for malpractice, the California Court of Appeal recently clarified its application under
existing precedent and held the anti SLAPP statute did not apply to claims against attorneys by former
clients. In Loanvest I, LLC v. Utrecht et al (2015) 235 Cal.App.4th 496, the plaintiff brought an action
against its attorneys for malpractice for failing to put its interests before a former client, resulting in
damage. At the trial level, the court granted the defendant law firm s special motion to strike under the
anti SLAPP statute, finding that the malpractice claim was based upon an act in furtherance of the
protected right of petition. The plaintiff thereafter appealed. In making its decision, the trial court
relied heavily upon Peregrine Funding, Inc. v. Sheppard Muillin Richter Hampton (2005) 133
Cal.App.4th 658 where the Court of Appeal previously held that claims based upon allegations made
by attorneys in judicial filings were within the scope of the anti SLAPP statute and protected. For a

Carrie The Musical Analysis
On the evening of July 27th, I attended a production of Carrie: The Musical based on the novel Carrie
by Stephen King. The musical was performed by Near West Theater in Cleveland and directed by

main antagonist in the play is her very own mother Margaret White. Ms.White is a very religious
woman that wants to protect Carrie from the dangers in the world and even herself, very
overprotective women and to what I believe very crazy. The plot is brought to life by supporting
characters/actors in the play who names are Sue Nell, Tommy Ross, Chris Hargensen, Billy Nolan,

the play cause her to find out she has powers. The end of Act II is when everything comes together

Research Methodologies
Research Methodologies In selecting a research methodology, researchers must approach the subject
matter with consideration of that which is desired as a data outcome. In light of this, the most
commonly used methodologies are quantitative, qualitative and mixed methods. The quantitative
study is usually defined so as a result of a clearly delineated range of numerical scales, sets or
representations designed to concretely define the findings of the resultant research. By its hypothesis
and its methodology, this study will be required to employ a process which is geared toward
empirically defensible findings. The determinism of numerical evaluation is widely considered less
vulnerable to individual biases unless it can be deduced that such bias informed the composition of the
equation methodology. Qualitative analysis essentially places a heavier demand upon the involvement
of the researcher in designing the frame for data analysis and the manner in which this analysis is
carried out. This means that the qualitative research must plumb through a considerable amount of
research and data in order to whittle down observational findings to a set of relevant and useful
resolutions. And indeed, after the processes of observation and information gathering, it can be both
time consuming and intellectually taxing to reduce these findings to the most meaningful and relevant
indicators available. This difficulty is further intensified by the inherently complicated task of clearly

be seen without special lighting, or a fingerprint on an on even surface, such as a tree (pp. 400).
Saferstein, R. (2011), also argues that visible evidence are made when an object touches a surface after
the ridges have been in contact with a colored material such as blood, paint grease, or ink, (pp. 400,
para. 1). I do not believe that there was a secure chain of custody due to the fact the crime scene had

Research Outline Gay Marriage Essay
Introduction The Controversy
Same sex marriage permits couples of the same gender to enter legally recognized marriages and
provides them with the same legal rights as couples in heterosexual relationships (Same Sex
Marriage). Opponents of same sex marriage argue that the institution of marriage should apply to only
unions between one man and one woman. Allowing gay and lesbian couples to marry, they say,
undermines the institution of marriage (Same Sex Marriage).
Where the Issue Stands Today

Federal Marriage Amendment
Since 2002 opponents of same sex marriage have worked to pass a Federal Marriage Amendment
(FMA) to the U.S. Constitution. This amendment would define marriage as a union between one man
and one woman. It has been introduced to the U.S. Congress in 2003, 2004, 2005, and 2008 but has
failed to gain enough support to pass (Same Sex Marriage)
Proposition 8
On June 16, 2008, California began allowing same sex couples to receive marriage licenses. But on
November 4 of that year, Proposition 8 passed, again banning same sex marriage (Same Sex
Marriage).
California s Proposition 8, which sought to ban same sex marriage, is an attempt to suppress personal
rights and force religious beliefs and codes of behavior on everyone, including non believers. Narrow
minded interpretations of faith often have led to self righteousness and oppression of others, and they
are again on the rise (Stone).
One might argue that Proposition 8 discriminates against gays and lesbians in violation of the Equal
Protection Clause. One might argue that Proposition 8 unconstitutionally limits the fundamental right
to marry. One might argue that Proposition 8 violates the separation of church and state (Stone).

legal protections awarded to married couples. These benefits

The Negative Effects Of Television Violence On Children
Children aged five to 16 spend an average of six and a half hours a day in front of a screen...
(Wakefield). But unfortunately, much of the television today is full of violence. Scientists believe that
the effects of TV violence on children and teenagers may cause them to become immune to the
consequence of violence, terror or horror, cause them to be unable to handle their problems in a
healthy form and cause them to copy, imitate, the violent behavior they see on the television.
Therefore, there needs to be a removal of violence from cartoons such as the ones on Boomerang, as it
is negatively affecting children.
One cause from the effect of violence from screen time or TV is: it can cause children or teenagers to
become immune to the consequence of violence, terror or horror. Children and teenagers can become
immune or not affected as a result of violence when they watch violent cartoons.
One opposing this might state that if violent cartoons are removed than that takes away the right of
choice for what people can watch. But, the programming of kids shows, normally cartoons, displays
up to 20 violent acts hourly. Eventually, this could cause them to be immune to violence if they are
watching it six and a half hours a day.
The AACAP(Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry) states that if children are watching a great
amount of violence on TV then they are more likely to not connect pain and negativity with violence.

Family Across The Sea Essay
The black experience, as seen in the existence of the Gullah Geechie community in the Georgia
Lowcountry, stands as proof of the existence and preservation of Africanism in the New World.
Cultural artifacts of that preservation include an active and surviving language, as studied by Lorenzo
Dow Turner, the private use of basket names, the making and use of fanner baskets as objects of art
and function, a continuance of the knowledge and skills required for growing and harvesting rice, oral
transmission of that knowledge, and the use of rice and greens in both African and the Lowcountry

similarities as direct links to the significant impact of 18th century slave trade on African Americans,

Imagine living in a world where everyone is happy. One is free to have sexual intercourse with a
partner of his or her choosing without any repercussion. However, there is a catch; one is required to
be happy all the time. In the novel Brave New World, their society is controlled and everyone is forced
to be happy. There are three characters that are not happy. Bernard who feels that he is an outsider and

Kanye Vs Wiz Khalifa Analysis
As of today, January 27, 2016, a twitter beef has been released into the cyber word at the hands of
Kayne West and Wiz Khalifa. The two pretty popular hip hop artists were seen going back and forth
on each other s pages feuding about the title of Kanye s new album called Waves . It was then
assumed by Kanye that when Khalifa tweeted the initials KK , he was eluding to a rude inside joke
about Kim Kardashian, Kanye s wife. This then sparked an annoyance in Kanye, who hadn t tweeted
much since before the upcoming date of his new album release, causing him to go on a 20 plus post
rant about Wiz Khalifa s rap career, ex wife, and child. Khalifa, who chose not to respond too much to
Kanye s bashing, was then bashed by the Kanye twitter fans who ... Show more content on

Community Policing
Abstract
The descent of good neighbourhoods begins with unruly behaviour, loitering and other disruptive acts
by members of society. Due to the reality that crime is a problem; it is beneficial to police officers and
law enforcement to interact with communities and discover what needs to be done and how urgent that
action must be executed. Due to its ability to uncover problems and lead to the efficient management
of those problems, community policing is still an effective method to keep crime rates down, boost
community resident s sense of safety and maintain orderly communities. Community Policing is an
ideal, created over the years through rigorous research this method of social intervention involves
three major components: Organizational ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Close knit communities are less likely to struggle with rampant crime. This is a benefit of community
policing. Members of the community can contribute significantly to strategies for containing and
eradicating crime. Due to the closeness the police officers have with the community, community
members feel safe and confident. It is hard work! There is a lot of commitment required from
department staff and city leaders responsible for institutionalizing community policing. Organisational
transformation means that police departments will have to restructure in a way that accommodates the
goals and vision of community policing. (Lawrence and McCarthy, 2013). Restructuring is demanding
and it means a lot of patience as policies, training and procedures all undergo changes. There is also
the maintenance of meaningful community partnerships. This maintenance would require the
inclusion of missing voices, briefing and education for stakeholders and shared responsibility amongst
those involved for the outcomes. Community policing is definitely a lot of maintenance and
development and it consumes a substantial amount of

The Pros And Cons Of Plastic Surgery
Plastic Surgery has become a wide topic in the United States. Plastic surgery is also known as, the
reconstruction surgery that involves the restoration of a function to a damaged body part and the
rebuilding of normal physical contours when parts of the body such as the nose, jaw, ears, or fingers
are missing or disfigured. Throughout the years, plastic surgery has become a well known surgery. The
overall percentage on plastic surgery dropped by forty percent for the first time in a decade, total
cosmetic procedures for women and men dropped below thirty one thousand that was the lowest since
the year od 2006. I believe that plastic surgery has very many cons towards it. There are many
statistics that prove that plastic surgery can be a harmful idea to the body. However, there is also many
positive thoughts when looking at the overall picture with plastic surgery. According to the article
Plastic Surgery pit is often done for purely cosmetic reasons, to remove blemished, make unusual
contours more normal, or improve self esteem. Plastic surgery has caused many people to reach the
cancer stage, or even pass away from coming in contact with plastic surgery. While many feels that
plastic surgery has many benefits, it actually has many health risks.

Common Violated Expectations Paper
According to Dyer (2013), the most commonly violated expectations are communication, decision
making, and conflict resolution and processes. The communication is a method to deliver messages
between member to member in which communicating is necessary to accomplish the task effectively
and obtain desire goal. The expectation of communication is easily violated because the members
could have used a delivery method that violates the expectation of the member. In the Department of
Defense (DoD), personal information that includes social security number and any personal sensitive
information must be transmitted via encrypted message when sending the information electronically in
accordance with 32 CFR 806b.29 (U.S. Government Publishing Office, 2013, p. 45). All members of
the DoD expect the personal information be transmitted via encrypted message; however, the violation
mostly occurs unintentionally. Thus, the sender who sent the personal sensitive information via
unencrypted email has violated the expectation of the receiver and the sender has violated ... Show

Conflict Spiral Model Essay
The conflict is now in its thirteenth year. There are several factors that are responsible for this increase
in escalation. Most importantly, stability inducing characteristics are lacking. Social bonds, a balance
of power, and national institutions and forums are absent, eliminating stability as a foreseeable
outcome. Escalation is most likely when there is an imbalance of power and when parties have high
aspirations. In cartels, kingpins and lords are replaced when one is murdered or arrested. Similarly, in
the Mexican government, presidents are replaced following a regularly scheduled election. In both
situations, a power vacuum opens; each top ranking official has a different idea on how to conduct
themselves and their teams throughout ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

machismo men with fast cars, private jets, and many beautiful women. As this is the reality of high

Compare And Contrast Paths Of Glory And All Quiet On The...
World War 1 has been a famous war throughout history. Many films have been made surrounding it,
sometimes realistic and sometimes not so much. Paths of Glory and All Quiet on the Western Front
were two such movies that depicted the Great War. Each movie is unique in their own sense and
although no movie will completely convey the harsh reality of the war some movies are better than
others. Depending on when and what year the war would have looked vastly different to different
soldiers. Some would only know the reality of the trench while others would recognize tanks rolling
over the ground which were impenetrable to normal gun fire. Which side of the war one was on would
have also lead to different views, as in when one side is winning the other is losing, and when morale
is up on one side normally morale is down on the other. In the history of war there are many different
aspects and some similarities. The Great War introduced the automatic gun and the idea of trench
warfare. The Great War had more casualties by artillery and it was said No flesh or a bone could live
above ground in the battlefield . Everything was fought across No man s Land . Many advancements
led to soldiers hiding behind a wall of dirt in the ground which really changed up the game. Fighting
this way seemed more dangerous due to the automatic guns and it was more effective than the U.S.
Civil War where everything was fought face to face only a few yards away. World War I was the

The Debate Of Embryonic Stem Cells
Embryonic stem cells have the ability to grow into any type of cell that your body contains and can
potentially aid in curing diseases and or repair many essential things in your body such as a kidney or
a lung. This sounds like an extremely favorable advantage to medical advancements but this subject
does summon some intense debates on where the stem cells come from. Embryonic meaning that it
comes from the embryo veers many people s opinion to totally protest any use of embryonic stem
cells. Opposing abortions and the use of embryonic stem cells go hand in hand. Many people are just
not ready for the responsibility of having a child so they take matters into their own hands and many
consider having an abortion. In the end everyone takes their own decision and they fit it to what they
feel is best for their lives. Many people may see an abortion as killing an innocent life but people
make their own decisions and no one can stop them. Abortions are a solution to unprepared
individuals that can not handle the responsibility of having a child; why not use the cells from the
procedure to save a life. Children are wonderful gifts but some people are just not ready to take up the
responsibility of raising that gift so they can use that gift to help another needy life.
Embryonic stem cells could cure many things such as Alzheimer s disease, Parkinson s disease,
Diabetes, and many other things (Stem Cell Information). This category could broaden but how will

he wasn t a military brat, no one in his family was in the military. His mom thought it would be a good

High School Cliques
As Ch. 5 focuses on the social structures and interactions of people and society, I am going to relate it
to a Stanford research, which is a Professional or Academic Journal, that explores why cliques thrive
in some high schools more than others. I am going to also use the Stanford research to explore the
internationalist view of how teens are portrayed in contemporary American society. The journal
explains that educators may have been able to affect teen cliquishness through changes in school
organization. Schools that offer student more choice were more likely to be rank ordered, cliquish and
segregated by race, age, gender and social status. The reason for this is because High Schools offer
students more choice through, more elective courses, more ways to complete requirements, a bigger
range of potential friends, more freedom to select seats in a classroom, this creates cliques seen ...

The reason that this study can be considered an internationalist view is because the internationalist
perspective focuses on a society that is the product of our everyday interactions with other people
through which we establish shared meanings and construct social order in an ongoing process which
makes society fluid and subject to change. Similar the Stanford s researchers study, High School teens
displayed a social order of cliquishness where teens only establish shared meanings and construct
social order with a group that is only similar to them, but with a smaller school the high school society
can be fluid in smaller schools and subject to change. High School teens do indeed play roles, follow
scripts, use props, work together, and seek to win their audiences, or in this case, teens similar to them.
What parts those teens project vary based on the role they perform, establishing groups with similar
interest and similarities that creates the cliques. Furthermore, researchers also found that in large
schools, teens tend make it noticeable

Health Care, Environmental Hazards, And Building Trust...
Step 1: Gather information and identify preliminary issues.
In this case, the most important issues are inadequate access to health care, environmental hazards,
behavioral risk factors, and building trust with the Narragansett community. The first three issues are
important because they directly affect the health of the Native American population. Additionally,
building trust with the Narragansett tribe in order to perform research and collaborative planning is the
key to designing successful care programs specifically for the Narragansett Indian Tribe. The first key
issue is regarding Native Americans insufficient access to health care. With the percentage of
unemployment within the Native American population in Rhode Island as high as 26 percent (The
Office of Minority Health, 2015), one third of Native American adults said there was a time in the past
year when they could not afford to see a doctor (Parrish, 2012). There is not many people from the
tribe can afford health access due to the fact that 42.2 percent of the Native American population is
living in poverty (The Office of Minority Health, 2015). Aside from inadequate access to health care,
some of the environmental health hazards that Native Americans are often exposed to include surface
and groundwater pollution, air pollution, hazardous waste, highway run off, illegal dumping, lead
paint, radon, and biological and chemical contamination of drinking water (Parrish, 2012). According

lubricating system not compatible with these newer trains. These trains were lubricated with a mix of
oil and powdered graphite so that the trains parts could be lubricated properly. The problem with
Elijah s first patent is that with the new mix of graphite the lubricator would clog up. This all changed
in April of 1915 when he received a patent for a new and improved lubricator in which he called
Locomotive Lubricator with this patent he stated that it permitted the use of graphite without clogging.
Hayden Cites a railroad superintendent states We have found the McCoy Graphite Lubricator to be of

advantage in better lubrication and reduction of wear in valves and piston rings, and as a well

This growth in population leads to the idea of marriage reformation. Reformers thought that
improving both the quality of children born and the conditions within marriage would solve the
population problem (Hunt 766). Since populations were becoming too large, many people believed in
eugenics, defined as a set of ideas about the importance of producing superior people through
selective breeding and of preventing the disabled and others deemed inferior from polluting one s
nation or race (Hunt 767). These reformation ideas leads to improved marriage laws throughout
Europe. Countries legalized divorce, and Sweden even made men s and women s control over

In Schevill s textbook, there is no focus on the social and cultural issues of the Europeans, but instead
a focus on diplomatic issues. Schevill titled this chapter leading up to World War I European

Insanity In Edvard Munch s The Scream
In his diaries, the artist Edvard Munch admits that he struggled with insanity not only on a personal
level during his life, but also through his family. In fact, his sister was hospitalized for insanity at the
time The Scream was painted in 1893. If given a thorough enough analysis, the personal lives of most
artists are not perfect portraits of happiness. The thing that makes Edvard Munch a different kind of
artist is that he shows us an honest, even ugly, glimpse of his inner troubles and feelings of anxiety
through his painting The Scream, putting more importance on personal meaning than on technical skill
or beauty, a traditional goal of art. According to Munch s personal diaries, the idea for the modern art

surface, Munch describes a normal evening in Norway, taking a walk at sunset with some friends
beside a fjord. While an evening out walking by the water might sound relaxing and enjoyable at first,
on closer look we see that Munch is really describing a moment of an almost undeniable personal
crisis. In the painting s background, we can see two people walking away in the other direction,
creating the feelings of isolation and fear the artist talks about in his quotation. In the manner of a true
Expressionist painter, Munch uses color to express his emotional reactions to his environment,
commenting on the red sky and the bluish black fjord, described almost as an all consuming black

Summary Of Neil Degrasse Tyson
Based on the title of this episode, I expected it to talk about the depths of the ocean, but I was wrong.
Instead the episode began by discussing condensation and evaporation and the sun s effect on each one
of these mechanisms. Neil Degrasse Tyson then dived deep into a water trap to further express the
contents of the drop, and the water bears appeared once again, their small but rigid tolerance allows
them to survive almost everywhere. The episode then began to discuss the structure of a plant at a
molecular level and Photosynthesis. There was one thing that I found very interesting in this episode
and that was then sectioned that talked about Charles Darwin s prediction about the orchid s nectar. He
believed that everything as created for a reason, if the Orchid had nectar at the end of their narrow
stems there must be an animal capable of retrieving that nectar, and he was right a fly was discovered
in Madagascar that had a lengthy tongue, one that was used to suck up the nectar from the bottom of

Brachycephalic Syndrome Essay
The Dogs Don t Bark A Lot But They Do Make Other Sounds
English Bulldogs will not bark usually like some other varieties of dogs that bark for distraction.
Nevertheless, it doesn t mean that they are necessarily quiet all the time. Instead, they often make
snorting or snoring and wheezing sounds frequently, especially while they re asleep. That is again
because of their flat and short face characteristics.
Brachycephalic Syndrome: The Reason for the Condition
The word brachycephalic, when broken into two terms, it refers as, brachy for shortened and cephalic
for head . The name brachycephalic dog is given, because the skull bones are shorter in length that
presents the face and nose a pushed in appearance. Therefore, the syndrome is ... Show more content

A Volleyball Story
Side out, side out! You got this! The crowd s roaring chant is a broken record on full blast. All of a
sudden, my ears deafen and my heart races. My hands are moist and my throat is dry. Perspiration
slowly trails down my face as I glance at the red and blue scoreboard. The score reads 12 13. My
team, Beach Vibes 14 1 has been going back and forth with Texas team, Magic 14 1 for more than an
hour. Both teams won one set, and now Magic is in the lead by one point. This is such a long and
exhausting game! I think frantically, mentally talking to myself. Focus, Taeah, focus. I try locking my
weary eyes on the tall server but the towering middle blocker with a wingspan of an eagle and the
outside blocker with enhanced biceps were partially blocking my view. The server serves a powerful
topspin jump serve towards Karlee, but the short, lighting fast defensive specialist dives forward to
pass the ball. It was a perfect pass, going directly to the petite hands of our skilled setter, Erica. She
sets me on zone 4.
Leaping into the air like a graceful ballerina, I pull my right arm back to load. When my hand contacts
the ball, I slam it at an open hard angle, zone 4. My team and I cheer hysterically. I hear a loud, Do it
again! in the crowd, and I turn to see my mother with proud eyes and a permanent smile plastered
across her face staring intently at me. The score now shows 13 13. Everyone rotates, and Erica serves
a fast, float serve. Number 24 shanks the ball, scoring us a

Ordinary Men b Christopher Browning Essay
In the book Ordinary Men, Christopher Browning tackles the question of why German citizens
engaged in nefarious behavior that led to the deaths of millions of Jewish and other minorities
throughout Europe. The question of what drove Germans to commit acts of genocide has been
investigated by numerous historians, but unfortunately, no overarching answer for the crimes has yet
been decided upon. However, certain theories are more popular than others. Daniel Goldhagen in his
book, Hitler s Willing Executioners, has expounded that the nature of the German culture before the
Second World War was deeply embedded in anti Semitic fervor, which in turn, acted as the catalyst for
the events that would unfold into the Holocaust. It is at this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

It is now that Browning goes in depth on the massacre that occurred in Jozefow. Of the perpetrators,
Browning mentions that many were middle aged policemen who were given a choice of whether or
not they wanted to take part in killing the Jewish population in this area. The major who offered a
reprieve from being involved in the slaughter was Major Trapp, of the 500 men who would be present,
only a mere dozen would accept his offer. Afterwards, the slaughter began with one soldier stating I
shot the child that belonged to her, because I reasoned with myself that after all without its mother the
child could not live any longer; so to speak, soothing to my conscience to release children unable to
live without their mothers. (Browning 73) It is at this point that Browning proceeds to put forth his
argument as to why he believes what he postulated in his theory. He uses this scene to catapult himself
into an argument of why anti Semitism was not the main driving force behind the killing. Years later,
once the soldiers were interrogated and the soldier recounted this scene to Browning and others, there
was a glaring omission, and that was of anti Semitism as a driving force to kill the Jews. Browning
highlights this important part of the discussion with the former soldiers as indicating that their sole
motivation was not just hatred

Pro and Con of Liberalized Gambling in Texas
Efforts are once again underway in the legislature to bring casino style gambling to Texas. It s an idea
that has failed in recent legislative sessions, but backers are hoping they ve found the right formula for
success in 2009.
There are many appealing arguments on the side of pro gambling groups. Keeping gambling money
that is now going to Louisiana and Oklahoma in Texas is one popular idea. Reviving the state s horse
raising industry by allowing slot machines at racetracks is another. Some advocates want to help
struggling Indian tribes develop their economies through gambling.
Opponents generally cite moral grounds for their hostility to gambling legislation. There are, however,
many fiscal arguments against gambling as well. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Additionally, this session is the first for new Texas House of Representatives Speaker Joe Straus, who
has family ties to the horse raising industry. This creates a potential conflict of interest should any bills
related to casinos at horse racing tracks come before the House. To deflect criticism, Straus has
peremptorily recused himself from any role in considering such legislation.
However, Straus created the committees which will oversee gambling issues, assigned members to
them and selected which bills are referred to which committees. So far, most of the gambling
legislation filed in the Texas House has been referred to committee. That filed in the Texas Senate,
where Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst presides, has not been referred.
To his credit, Straus did not pack any of the committees dealing with gambling. The Licensing and
Administration Committee, through which most gambling goes, retains roughly the same percentage
of members for and against gambling as the previous committee under Speaker Tom Craddick. In both
cases, the committee leaned slightly toward expanding gambling.
Current Legislation.
Full blown Casinos: House Bill 1724 by Jose Menendez (R San Antonio) and Jim Pitts (R
Waxahachie), as well as its Senate version by Sen. Rodney Ellis (D Houston) would establish full
blown casino

  • 2. Is Society Becoming too Dependent on Computers Essay The computer has been one of man s most influential inventions, paving the way for greater achievements with time. Today, computers have become an essential component in fulfilling everyday tasks in both our professional and personal lives. Computers are used to store vast amounts of information, and even replace humans in factories throughout the world. We must now ask ourselves, is this reliance on computers aiding the human mind in achieving its full potential or rather replacing it and hindering our progress? Society has now become dependant on computers. How does this machine affect our youth and learning process? We have invented a machine with a greater, and faster learning capacity as our own. Supporters of the anti computer usage group state that computers hinder us more than they aid us. They believe we have invented a machine with a greater and faster learning capacity and soon there may be no need for us humans. Our sense of creativity and ingenuity is neither needed nor utilized as we can easily use a computer application to achieve those once rare results by that of human ingenuity. The internet through the use of the computer is now a medium for a number of services, such as online chatting, social sites, and dating. Interactions between humans have suffered with the use of these services. Those once memorable face to face moments have been replaced by a few clicks of the keyboard and mouse. There are individuals who cannot survive without the computer and in its absence suffer from depression and anxiety. In factories around the world, there are computers doing the jobs of once hard working men and women. This not only contributes to the unemployment rate, but also puts us in a position where we must question the need for humans in the work place. Basic daily tasks are now unnecessarily achieved by the computer and our children are no longer driven to improve on their mental and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. An Examination Into The Respective Proofs Of St. Aquinas An Examination into the Respective Proofs of St. Anselm and St. Aquinas During the Medieval Period, philosophers shifted their focus primarily to proving the existence of God, as well as other religious tenets. Two Saints of the Catholic Church, St. Anselm and St. Thomas Aquinas, developed their own respective proofs for the existence of God. These proofs have gained fame over the subsequent centuries and still face debate and comparison today. Although both St. Anselm and St. Thomas Aquinas offer proofs for the existence of God, the proofs differ drastically due to the distinct argumentative methods utilized by each author, as well as the differing overall strengths and weaknesses each proof yields. To begin comparing the proofs, one must first state them. St. Anselm s proof is most clearly described by defining God as that than which no greater can be conceived (Melchert, 260). With this definition in mind, one can contemplate St. Augustine s Great Chain of Being and realize that existence gives something more being, or more greatness, than non existence (Melchert, 261). It follows, then, that we grasp an idea of God, which would be greater if it actually existed, therefore it (our idea of God) exists. Anselm s definition of God and Augustine s theory of the Great Chain of Being are the only requirements for Anselm s proof of the existence of God to work. St. Thomas Aquinas actually posits five separate proofs, but due to length constraints, this paper will only ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Mr. Harvey Thought A Lot Essay Mr. Harvey thought a lot. To say the least, time had been his only friend for years. Mr. Harvey was the type of man to think all kinds of kooky and abstract things. He liked to think of how there had only ever been one yellow paddle boat for hire amongst the numerous blue down at the rivers dock. He thought of how on cheery spring days the children would beg their parents to leave a few minutes earlier to snatch it up before the other kids did. He used to watch them for hours, the amusement on their faces riding along the steady waters laughing at the other children because they got stuck in the boring blue paddle boats. Time was funny like that he thought. Getting to the docks those couple moments earlier than the other children, granted hours of joy because their yellow boat happened to bet better than all the blues. He also thought them absurd, to Mr. Harvey colours were just colours, not measures of happiness. But he knew the youths naivety was all that made them young. He thought about Delilah s Deli which sat directly below his scungy old flat back in 1945. He used to pick up one punnet of sun dried tomatoes, a 250g block of cheese and a small jar of pitted black olives every Sunday morning at exactly 9:05, purely because that was when their stock was fresh and was guaranteed to last the week. He remembered the betrayal he d felt when a little sign saying Closed For Good swung like a newton s cradle on the door where the open sign used to hang. Mr. Harvey thought ... • 5. What Is The Theme Of The Poem Good Night The first stanza starts with the asking his father not to be soft on death meaning that he asks him not to accept death quietly but to fight against it with full force, passion and bravery. Good night in the first line refers to a good death, as it is clear that night represents death and the poet is motivating his father resists death in a calm way. The use of the word rage shows the poet requesting his father to resist death. The second stanza defines the attitude of wise men that realize that death is near. They can be known as the men who will not accept death passively. They know that there is still a long journey and a long way to go. Burn and rave are usually associated with the passion of youth and thus the poet wants his father to sing passionately. The close of day symbolizes the approaching death meaning that his father will eventually die soon. In this case, the use of sad height may as well symbolize the closeness to death. Gentle is used as an adjective that signifies the poet s father s personality. The poem: Do not go gentle into that good night is structured in a villanelle. Thus the form of the villanelle reveals that it has a refrain and self improvised lyrics in each stanza. Poetical devices are also used in this poem such as alliteration that include the following: Do not go gentle into that goodnight Rage, rage against the dying of the light. Blind eyes could blaze like meteors and be gay is an example of a simile used in the poem. Curse, bless me now with your fierce tears, I pray is an example of an oxymoron where the poet is asking his father to bless as well as curse him. Dylan Thomas had also shown the use of parallelism describing the actions of three different men: wise men good men wild men . The speaker requests that his father has the qualities of these kinds of men. The poet had also used contrasts in the poem to emphasize and focus on the theme, which include the following: Gentle and rage night and day light and dark blind and sight grave and grey curse and ... Tornadoes cause a lot of damage, because they have high wind speeds, kill and injure people, cover large amounts of land, they can mix with wild fire to cause firenadoes, and they are on the ground so they are close to people and structures. Tornadoes happen most often in the spring time, which is why it is called tornado season. Tornado Alley is where the most tornadoes happen annually. Tornado Alley includes Oklahoma, Kansas, the Texas Panhandle, Nebraska, Eastern South Dakota, and Eastern Colorado(12 Twisted Tornado Facts.). A tornado is a type of natural disaster. Tornadoes are violent and destructive windstorms that happen on land(Tornado). A windstorm cannot be considered a tornado until it has touched the ground. Tornadoes form when moist warm air is trapped under cold dry air. When the warm air is pushed up, if the conditions are right, the air will start to spin and a tornado will form(12 Twisted Tornado Facts). Tornadoes can be very dangerous if you are caught in one, like the people of St. Louis in 1896, or the people caught in the tornadoes of the tornado outbreak in 1974. • 8. The Importance Of Transvestism In Japanese Culture Transvestism was a common practice in a homosexual relationship. Transvestism is defined as the practice of dressing and appearing like the other sex. In Japanese history, male homosexuality is seen as gender misalignment, which is the totality of physical and behavioral traits that are designated by a culture as masculine or feminine. Transvestism is shown through cross dressing males who appear as females. This would be done to please their male partner s heterosexual interest and was apparent throughout the societies of Japan. This was typical within samurai relationships, but there has been cases of this found with the chigo cross dressing to please the monk elites. The ideology of cross dressing was accepted and encouraged through the religious norms. They would do this to fulfill the concept that they were in a relationship with a woman to suppress their desire to commit the sin of sexual intercourse with a woman and continue the cycle of attachment. There is little effort to differentiate among the categories of homosexual male, transsexual, transvestite, and drag queen (McLelland 158). Cross dressing was most common in the Edo period because they felt the need to be in touch with their feminine side due to the introduction of Bushido. The difference between homosexual males, transsexual, transvestite, and drag queens was not apparent to the Japanese people. California s Court Of Appeal California s Court of Appeal Clarifies Application of anti SLAPP Statutes to Attorney Malpractice Actions California s anti SLAPP statute (codified in Code of Civil Procedure section 425.16) protects the Constitutional rights to freedom of speech and right of petition by subjecting any cause of action that chills these rights to be subject to a special motion to strike. In the context of a complaint against an attorney for malpractice, the California Court of Appeal recently clarified its application under existing precedent and held the anti SLAPP statute did not apply to claims against attorneys by former clients. In Loanvest I, LLC v. Utrecht et al (2015) 235 Cal.App.4th 496, the plaintiff brought an action against its attorneys for malpractice for failing to put its interests before a former client, resulting in damage. At the trial level, the court granted the defendant law firm s special motion to strike under the anti SLAPP statute, finding that the malpractice claim was based upon an act in furtherance of the protected right of petition. The plaintiff thereafter appealed. In making its decision, the trial court relied heavily upon Peregrine Funding, Inc. v. Sheppard Muillin Richter Hampton (2005) 133 Cal.App.4th 658 where the Court of Appeal previously held that claims based upon allegations made by attorneys in judicial filings were within the scope of the anti SLAPP statute and protected. In light of this, the most commonly used methodologies are quantitative, qualitative and mixed methods. The quantitative study is usually defined so as a result of a clearly delineated range of numerical scales, sets or representations designed to concretely define the findings of the resultant research. By its hypothesis and its methodology, this study will be required to employ a process which is geared toward empirically defensible findings. The determinism of numerical evaluation is widely considered less vulnerable to individual biases unless it can be deduced that such bias informed the composition of the equation methodology. Qualitative analysis essentially places a heavier demand upon the involvement of the researcher in designing the frame for data analysis and the manner in which this analysis is carried out. This means that the qualitative research must plumb through a considerable amount of research and data in order to whittle down observational findings to a set of relevant and useful resolutions. Therefore, there needs to be a removal of violence from cartoons such as the ones on Boomerang, as it is negatively affecting children. One cause from the effect of violence from screen time or TV is: it can cause children or teenagers to become immune to the consequence of violence, terror or horror. Many films have been made surrounding it, sometimes realistic and sometimes not so much. Paths of Glory and All Quiet on the Western Front were two such movies that depicted the Great War. Each movie is unique in their own sense and although no movie will completely convey the harsh reality of the war some movies are better than others. Depending on when and what year the war would have looked vastly different to different soldiers. Some would only know the reality of the trench while others would recognize tanks rolling over the ground which were impenetrable to normal gun fire. Which side of the war one was on would have also lead to different views, as in when one side is winning the other is losing, and when morale is up on one side normally morale is down on the other. In the history of war there are many different aspects and some similarities. The Great War introduced the automatic gun and the idea of trench warfare. The Great War had more casualties by artillery and it was said No flesh or a bone could live above ground in the battlefield . Everything was fought across No man s Land . Many advancements led to soldiers hiding behind a wall of dirt in the ground which really changed up the game. The journal explains that educators may have been able to affect teen cliquishness through changes in school organization. Schools that offer student more choice were more likely to be rank ordered, cliquish and segregated by race, age, gender and social status. Additionally, building trust with the Narragansett tribe in order to perform research and collaborative planning is the key to designing successful care programs specifically for the Narragansett Indian Tribe. The first key issue is regarding Native Americans insufficient access to health care. • 44. A Volleyball Story Side out, side out! You got this! The crowd s roaring chant is a broken record on full blast. All of a sudden, my ears deafen and my heart races. My hands are moist and my throat is dry. Perspiration slowly trails down my face as I glance at the red and blue scoreboard. The score reads 12 13. My team, Beach Vibes 14 1 has been going back and forth with Texas team, Magic 14 1 for more than an hour. Both teams won one set, and now Magic is in the lead by one point. This is such a long and exhausting game! I think frantically, mentally talking to myself. Focus, Taeah, focus. I try locking my weary eyes on the tall server but the towering middle blocker with a wingspan of an eagle and the outside blocker with enhanced biceps were partially blocking my view. The server serves a powerful topspin jump serve towards Karlee, but the short, lighting fast defensive specialist dives forward to pass the ball. It was a perfect pass, going directly to the petite hands of our skilled setter, Erica. She sets me on zone 4. Leaping into the air like a graceful ballerina, I pull my right arm back to load. When my hand contacts the ball, I slam it at an open hard angle, zone 4. My team and I cheer hysterically. I hear a loud, Do it again! in the crowd, and I turn to see my mother with proud eyes and a permanent smile plastered across her face staring intently at me. The score now shows 13 13. Everyone rotates, and Erica serves a fast, float serve. Number 24 shanks the ball, scoring us a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 45. Ordinary Men b Christopher Browning Essay In the book Ordinary Men, Christopher Browning tackles the question of why German citizens engaged in nefarious behavior that led to the deaths of millions of Jewish and other minorities throughout Europe. The question of what drove Germans to commit acts of genocide has been investigated by numerous historians, but unfortunately, no overarching answer for the crimes has yet been decided upon. However, certain theories are more popular than others. Daniel Goldhagen in his book, Hitler s Willing Executioners, has expounded that the nature of the German culture before the Second World War was deeply embedded in anti Semitic fervor, which in turn, acted as the catalyst for the events that would unfold into the Holocaust. It is at this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is now that Browning goes in depth on the massacre that occurred in Jozefow. Of the perpetrators, Browning mentions that many were middle aged policemen who were given a choice of whether or not they wanted to take part in killing the Jewish population in this area. The major who offered a reprieve from being involved in the slaughter was Major Trapp, of the 500 men who would be present, only a mere dozen would accept his offer. Afterwards, the slaughter began with one soldier stating I shot the child that belonged to her, because I reasoned with myself that after all without its mother the child could not live any longer; so to speak, soothing to my conscience to release children unable to live without their mothers. (Browning 73) It is at this point that Browning proceeds to put forth his argument as to why he believes what he postulated in his theory. He uses this scene to catapult himself into an argument of why anti Semitism was not the main driving force behind the killing. Years later, once the soldiers were interrogated and the soldier recounted this scene to Browning and others, there was a glaring omission, and that was of anti Semitism as a driving force to kill the Jews. Browning highlights this important part of the discussion with the former soldiers as indicating that their sole motivation was not just hatred ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 46. Pro and Con of Liberalized Gambling in Texas Efforts are once again underway in the legislature to bring casino style gambling to Texas. It s an idea that has failed in recent legislative sessions, but backers are hoping they ve found the right formula for success in 2009. There are many appealing arguments on the side of pro gambling groups. Keeping gambling money that is now going to Louisiana and Oklahoma in Texas is one popular idea. Reviving the state s horse raising industry by allowing slot machines at racetracks is another. Some advocates want to help struggling Indian tribes develop their economies through gambling. Opponents generally cite moral grounds for their hostility to gambling legislation. There are, however, many fiscal arguments against gambling as well. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Additionally, this session is the first for new Texas House of Representatives Speaker Joe Straus, who has family ties to the horse raising industry. This creates a potential conflict of interest should any bills related to casinos at horse racing tracks come before the House. To deflect criticism, Straus has peremptorily recused himself from any role in considering such legislation. However, Straus created the committees which will oversee gambling issues, assigned members to them and selected which bills are referred to which committees. So far, most of the gambling legislation filed in the Texas House has been referred to committee. That filed in the Texas Senate, where Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst presides, has not been referred. To his credit, Straus did not pack any of the committees dealing with gambling. The Licensing and Administration Committee, through which most gambling goes, retains roughly the same percentage of members for and against gambling as the previous committee under Speaker Tom Craddick. In both cases, the committee leaned slightly toward expanding gambling. Current Legislation.
