The Human Relations Movement Of George Elton Mayo
Managers throughout history have been interested in studying ways to increase productivity. For
example, Frederick Taylor began the movement of scientific management in the 1880 s. Scientific
management looked to improve productivity through means of scientific analysis of worker s tasks
and work processes rather than the old rule of thumb (Taylor, 1914). Taylor believed that he could
maximize worker efficiency and productivity through focusing on workers specific hand motions and
patterns. After this period, beginning in about the 1930 s, managers looked to take productivity to yet
another level by studying worker physiology and motivation. This new movement came to be known
as the human relations movement. George Elton Mayo is credited with founding the human relations
movement. Mayo conducted an experiment in the 1920 s and 1930 s know as the Hawthorne study.
Two of the main aspects of the study centered around illumination in the work place and varying
levels of break time and work hours (WickstrΓΆm, 2000). The illumination study consisted of four
different experiments over the course of three years. In each experiement, there was a control group
and a study group. In the varying studies, the researchers experimented with varying levels of light
and varying sequences of increasing and decreasing the level of light ( Hawthorne effect ). Throughout
the experiments, researchers would often find patterns of increased productivity, leading them to
believe that they had

Live By Night Analysis
The magazine Women In Crime clearly fits into the crime fiction genre of the 1950s. It does this
through women being represented as sexually attractive and in power over men, because at the time
women being strong and deceitful was popular among Crime fiction writers. It shows the sexual
attraction through the low cut dress, showing lots of skin, the stocking and the dark hair. All of these
aspects of a woman at that particular time were seen as very attractive and desirable. The cover shows
the lady in power through a male hand showing her jewelry but she looks unimpressed as if
manipulating the man and acting angry to get what she wants. Women In Crime demonstrates the
representation of women in crime fiction stories during the 1950s.

Live By Night fits into the Crime fiction genre through conventions such as the dull colors in the
cover, suggesting a dark and brutal story about violence and crime, also the dark sleuth taking up the
cover. The colors used in the cover consist of black and white being used as the background and the
detective and the red being used for text. These colors are generally the only three used in crime
fiction covers, as they support the dark and suspicious feel of the crime fiction stories. The title of the
book also fits into the colors used in the cover, as the book is called Live By Night, which implies
dark environments. The man in the front of the cover is representing the detective of modern day
crime fiction stories. The audience can expect the detective to be a man who goes out at night looking
for clues and solving crime as he is in the dark in the cover and it fits in with the title. Mis en scene
has a mysterious and edgy feel to it, the cover looks like a place where a crime could potentially take
place. Live By Night fits into the conventions of the modern day crime fiction genre with its use of

Fermat s Last Theorem Research Paper
Fermat s Last Theorem Pierre de Fermat, born in 1601, hailed by many as the king of amateurs , was a
French lawyer and mathematics hobbyist. In the margin of his copy of Diophantus Arithmetica, he
scribbled a note that would perplex and puzzle event the greatest mathematicians for the next 350
years. In this margin, Fermat wrote that there were no positive integers that can fill in x, y, and z of
xn+yn=zn, where n represents a number higher than two. This equation was based on Pythagorean
triples, infinite triplets of numbers that could satisfy the equation xn+yn=zn where n represents 2. the
problem arose when Fermat noted that, I have found a truly marvelous demonstration of this
proposition which this margin is too narrow to contain. This supposed proof was never revealed. This
was not strange for Fermat, as he had a reputation of concealing his proof in order to frustrate his
colleagues, and in Arithmetica, he frequently left out his proof. The thing that made this particular
equation stand out was the fact that after Fermat s death in 1665 and the posthumous publishing of his
Arithmetica, all other marginal conjectures were verified while this last ... Show more content on

Buber And Arendt Approaches To Zionism
In my paper, I will be compared Buber and Arendt s approaches to Zionism. Although they both have
the same humanist perspective on Zionism, their approaches in their discussion of Zionism is
exceedingly different. Therefore, although both Buber and Arendt recognize the importance of
incorporating the Palestinians in the process of the creation of a Jewish state, Buber has a more
optimistic view than Arendt. However, both Buber and Arendt are critical of nationalism and
imperialist power s influence in the creation of the Jewish homeland. Accordingly, this paper will
assess both Buber and Arendt s views of Zionism and focus on their views of nationalism and the
influence of outside powers.
One thing that I believe is important is each ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Both Buber and Arendt recognize that nationalism played a vital role in the creation of the conflict.
Buber recognized the rise of nationalism in Zionism and referred to as unambiguous demarcation of a
kind, a degenerated kind of nationalism which of late has begun to spread even in Judaism. (Buber 48)
Arendt and Buber were both concerned that Zionist movement would become exclusive and
unappealing. Buber stressed the importance of including the Arabs in the dialogue and not making
Zionism a repressive nationalistic ideology. Like Buber, Arendt was critical of the rise of nationalism
which undermined the original goals of Zionism. Buber was concerned that the nationalist
development would become a permanent fixture and would led to a downfall dyed in the colors of
nationalism. (Buber 52) Therefore, both authors were disappointed with the direction that Zionism
was going. Buber and Arendt s humanist Zionist view led them to hope for peace and cooperation and
dialogue between the Jews and Arabs.
Arendt recognized the dangers of nationalism that necessarily and admittedly depends upon the force
of foreign nation is certainly worse. (Arendt 344) A major issue is that asking outside powers such as
the British to create a Jewish homeland led to Balkanization in the region. Therefore, Arendt stresses
the importance of having an understanding that takes into account the whole region and it s needs of
all the peoples. (Arendt 345) Moreover, Arendt

The Colonial Society During The Colonial Society In The...
CHAPTER 3 During the Colonial Society in the 18th Century many things happened Colonial
Growth, Economic Boom, and the diverse branches of religion growing. Germans , Scott Irish and the
Africans were some of the big groups arriving to the American Colonies. A representative government
was present but only white male owners were limited to participate in the voting process. Everyone
that wasn t a slave in this society had the opportunity to move up in social status. It was a patriarchal
society during 18th Century that consisted of the men running the household and the family business.
Whether you were in the upper class or not consisted if you had slaves working for you. Britain was
controlling when it came to having a great exponential in exporting, they didn t want America to
succeed more than them and input laws. Religion divided sectors of the colonies when the diverse
religions arrived and discrimination was faced. Authority of Religion was lost during this time
especially Anglican because the King of England was the head of the Church and therefore, many
stopped seeing him as leader. In the Colonies the Cultural life was very much well adopted from
England due to it s habitants. The time of The Enlightment , very much had a resulting effect after
many Americans followed the movement. Education depended on what town in the colonies you were

A Comparison Of Maroon V And One Band
Maroon V and OneRepublic Maroon V (five). OneRepublic. Both of these are bands you have
probably heard of on the radio at least once. Maroon V is quite a bit further ahead than OneRepublic
despite the fact that they are just a few years apart in age. The reasoning behind that could be that they
are obviously similar. It is probably just because Adam Levine is a swoon worthy man.
There are many ways in which the bands are similar, but are there really that many in the ways they
are different? Well, when it comes to how you can differentiate the two, the only way to do it is to go
through the statistics. Both Maroon V and OneRepublic s songs sound somewhat similar, but what
makes them different is where they got their inspiration from. In an interview with Adam Levine, he
stated that his band s inspiration came from a number of singers and bands, including Michael
Jackson, Tupac, Justin Timberlake, Marvin Gaye, and Billy Joel. That was only a few. OneRepublic s
Ryan Tedder stated that when the group gets together, they like to get a little bit of inspiration from
some singers, but they like to make their music by whatever comes to them. The few influence
OneRepublic had included M83, U2, and the Beatles. The only common influential artist between the
two bands was Prince. Who wouldn t want to be like Prince?
The two bands also differ in terms of popularity. Sure you hear OneRepublic from time to time, but do
you hear it nearly as much as you hear Maroon V? There was never a

Morgan s Stand Below the Goldsboro Road
Morgan s Stand Below the Goldsboro Road
Morgan s famous heroic stand below Goldsboro Road would begin on March 18th. His division
(Second), Fourteenth Army Corps, took the advance for the Left Wing at 5:30 A.M. on Saturday the
eighteenth (Hughes Jr., 17). After Morgan helped federal foragers in his division fight off small rebel
forces near Bushy Swamp, Sherman ordered him to hold his division where it was. In the early
morning of March 19th, Morgan s men would advance along with Sherman and WilliamCarlin s men.
They would soon be told to hold position again as Carlin went to engage against Confederates. It
wouldn t be until the afternoon at three o clock that Morgan would soon have to help Carlin and
Slocum against the Confederates, due to Carlin s inability to stop them in the skirmishes. After
Mitchell had placed his men into the appropriate area, Morgan s unit would march in. He would send
one of his men to send a message to generals in the battle. First he sent a message to Davis requesting
that Vandever s brigade (backed with the wagons at the rear of the corps) be rushed to him (Hughes Jr,
98). Morgan also sent one to Benjamin Fearing to ask if he could help General Mitchell by being at
his right while having some of his men attack to help stiffen Vernon s skirmish line (Hughes Jr., 98).
Also seeing that there were no enemy troops on the right side near Goldsboro road, Morgan ordered
one of his men to perform reconnaissance. Later, he and his men would have to

Hinduism And Religion
Hinduism I
An interesting aspect of Hinduism is its conception has created a history that is still prevalent today.
The citadels of the Harappa culture provide modern society with information regarding the
architecture and consequently their religious practices. However, there are some aspects of the
Harappa culture that are still unknown to this day. For example, there is little evidence regarding the
culture s manner of disposal. Consequently, we lack the knowledge of the Harappa s religious
convictions. After the fall of the Harappa culture, the Indo Europeans embraced language as a means
of understanding. Historians have been able to track the migration patterns of the Indo Europeans.
They can do so because the language of the Vedas ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These forms of communications include hymns, rituals treatises, and philosophical texts. Despite the
Veda s diverse form of communication many people do not have access to sacred texts. This restrictive
access to sacred texts begs the question, to what extent does religious exclusivity help or hinder
religious development? While it is important to maintain the original message of the Vedas, it is also
important to distribute true teaching so that students can act and think in a cohesive manner. The Veda
s source of revelation was not a deity. Instead three schools were formed to communicate the
teachings of the Veda. The reading states, In every generation, specialists in Vedic hermeneutics have

Vedic hermeneutics have effectively altered the way Hinduism is received. They have effectively
altered the way Hinduism is received by tailoring the religion to societies needs. I have always
subscribed to the ideas of Karma and Samsara. Though I do not subscribe to the idea of death. I
believe that life is a continuation of an infinite reality. I am unsure of the idea of karma because good
and evil are relative terms. Truth, in religion, should be universal. It is true that in order to achieve
liberation, one must obtain a transformative experiential wisdom. Societies focus on external
development make obtaining this experiential wisdom increasingly difficult. The idea of obtaining
wisdom to avoid death suggests that wisdom is freeing oneself from ideas and

(Impact of cloud computing in supply chain, 2015) The difference between distributed computing with
individualized computing is that the cloud technology gives an extensive variety of capacities. The
usage of cloud built solutions depends on different elements, for example, the division in which the
business works; the practicality of porting existing parts on cloud, size of the organization, and the
area of customers and so on. It helps in reducing the time required as well as minimize the fixed cost
of the company. Therefore, it is not logistic to make a single explanation of implementation of cloud
computing technology. For example, a newly started company can adopt the cloud based solution
easily but it is difficult for existing firms to shift their supply chain to cloud technology. Let consider a
business has both ERP and CRM solutions, as concern from security view the business may move
their CRM to cloud while store ERP in house server. IT and media purchasers are confined on
bandwidth and disk utilization issues as use of these facilities require interest from the clients. A
sudden increase of interest may force the organization to locate more servers which they will need to
maintain that would increase their fixed and operational expenses to huge level. Rather the
organization may utilize the cloud technology in order to develop their content. This needs

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Athens
Democracy and oligarchy, what does this have to do with anything, right? Well, actually when it
comes to Ancient Greece it is very important, because these two types of government are the main two
types in Greece. Athens is superior to Sparta, because how things were changed, and the power of the
people. First, Athens went through different types of government, it made them where they are now.
As they became more rich and a bigger city state, the governments were changing all the time. The
wealthiness became so big that it was given to the aristocracy, but only a few members. There might
have been a lack of laws that are staying in the city state. Although, secondly, Athens fixed that in 621

laugh. Tragedy were things like love/hate/war/and betrayal, though there would always end up being a
hero, who would die at the end. Between the two, Athens and Sparta, one of the had the best
geographical advantage, and I think we all know which one that is. Athens is superior to Sparta,
because it is the largest city state in Greece, the three different regions, the trades, and the climate.
There were three different regions, the lowlands, the mountains, and the coast. The soil was uneven
and very rocky on the Greek peninsula, which left less than 20% of land to be farmed on. They relied
mainly on grains and other food to be imported from the regions around them. Land Travel was
difficult because of the mountains around them. Greece controlled Attica, a region. All the mountains

Othello And Uncontrolled Jealousy
Othello and Uncontrolled Jealousy
Dominating the protagonist in William Shakespeare s tragedy Othello is the passion of sexual
jealousy. Dominating the antagonist is another type of jealousy toward Cassio, and hatred toward the
general. Let us look closely at the concept of jealousy as it is revealed in this drama.
Lily B. Campbell in Shakespeare s Tragic Heroes definitively categorizes Othello as a study in
jealousy :
Othello has suffered less in its modern interpretation than any other of Shakespeare s tragedies, it
would seem. So insistently did Shakespeare keep this tragedy unified about the theme of jealousy and
the central victims of the passion, so obviously did he mould his plot about the black Moor and the ...

Francis Ferguson in Two Worldviews Echo Each Other describes how there is no cure for the jealous
passion that rules Iago s life:
On the contrary, in the world of his philosophy and his imagination, where his spirit lives, there is no
cure for passion. He is, behind his mask, as restless as a cage of those cruel and lustful monkeys that
he mentions so often. It has been pointed out that he has no intelligible plan for destroying Othello,
and he never asks himself what good it will do him to ruin so many people. It is enough for him that
he hates the Moor. . . .(133)
Act 1 Scene 1 opens with an expression of jealousy: Roderigo is upbraiding Iago because of the
elopement of the object of his affections Desdemona with the Moor: Thou told st me thou didst hold

The shot shows a male figure viewing photographs. We see the person from the rear, look over his

some of the faces that are visible in the photos and which seem to be looking at us outside of the

Brazil s The Unified Health System Essay
In Brazil s recent history, the country s healthcare market has been largely inaccessible to foreign
investment. The country has dedicated public funds to run health care facilities. According to (The
Lancet, 2014), Brazil s 1998 constitution officially declared all citizens were entitled to healthcare.
This provision birthed the Unified Health System (SUS). A system which relies heavily on taxes and
government support. Historically, Brazil s government has blocked FDI inflows in the health sector.
However stagnation, combined with a strong desire to spur economic growth, gave way to a major
policy change. As noted by (Alves, 2015), in January 2015 a new provision was enacted by the
Brazilian government to allow foreign investment in the health sector. This landmark policy alteration
may mark the beginning of dramatic increases in the countries Healthcare sector over the next decade.
Brazil s Healthcare system is divided into public (SUS) and private health coverage. As economic
prosperity increased over the past 20 years, more citizens have opted to purchase better coverage in
the public sector. Now, in 2015, policy reform has opened the door to foreign investors to enter the
market. This includes hospital construction/management, health insurance, even bio technical research
and development. Alves (2015), details the statement from representatives at Chenut Oliveira

insert moulding is a single piece with the insert encapsulated by the plastic. The insert can be made of
metal or another plastic, and this was initially developed to place threading inserts in molded parts and
to encapsulate the wire plug connection on electrical cords. Insert Moulding is also used quite
extensively in the manufacture of medical devices, the typical application of insert moulding include

Tyranny Research Paper
In this essay I will attempt to prove that a typical tyrant does not exist as each have their own
ambitions. The issue with asking whether there is such thing as a typical tyrant arises from the fact
that we must consider what the word tyrant actually means. The Oxford Classical Dictionary states,
Tyranny was not a special form of constitution, or necessarily a reign of terror; the tyrant might either
rule directly or retain the existing political institutions but exercise a preponderant influence over their
working, and his rule might be benevolent or malevolent. , clearly tyranny is not as simple as the
modern connotation of a power hungry despot. In comparison, the Cambridge Dictionary Online
defines tyranny as, government by a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Contrary to the modern view of a tyrant as a warlord, some were actually quite invested in the arts and
in building projects. Herodotos records that the same bloodthirsty Periander also supported the poet
Arion in his invention of the dithyramb . This suggests another facet to Periander s character (he is not
just bloodthirsty, he is political too) which makes it harder to state that there is such a thing as a
common tyrant. Pausanias (AD 110 c.180) comments on Theagenes fountain house at Megara which
was, remarkable for its size, beauty and the number of pillars ; this show of euergetism and
munificence would make a tyrant seem important, powerful and remind the people that he is their
leader. Interestingly, the tyrant of Samos, Polykrates paid the poet Ibykos to glorify himself with the
quotation, ...and you Polykrates will have undying renown which is a contribution to the arts and a
means of building his own prestige. Thus we see that some tyrants follow a more political and shrewd
concept of governance which actually comes into conflict with Plato and Aristotle s views that a
tyrants rule is barbaric in nature as these same tyrants use wisdom to craft their personae.
In conclusion, there is no such thing as a typical tyrant as ambitions vary between each tyrant. Thus, a
leader such as Pittakos is defined by Aristotle as an aisymnetes which is an elected tyrant whose rule
is tyrant like and non ancestral meaning that it is not inherited like the Kypselid tyranny. This
illustrates the point that tyrant is just a label used to depict one man rule and therefore it is difficult to
speak of a common tyrant as they each their own

Chief Seattle Speech Summary
Two great chiefs, Tecumseh and Seattle, attempted to address the U.S. government s negligence
against the Native American tribes, who preceded the very men who ignore their needs. Chief Seattle
delivers a speech to President Pierce in 1855, and in it contrasts nature and artificial cities. There is no
quiet place in man s cities, no place to hear the leaves of spring or the rustle of insect wings. But
perhaps because I am a savage and do not understand, the clatter only seems to insult the ears.
(Seattle). He uses imagery to describe the delicacy of nature to the crude artificialness of man s cities ,
and provide a greater understanding of how their lives differ. Chief Seattle knows that the President,
just like all other white me, has preconceptions about Native Americans. He most likely believes them
to be too simplistic for white society, and even more so fears them. He already knows that white men
perceive them as savages and acknowledges this in his speech in a repetitive manner saying, but we
are just savages and do not understand (Seattle) three times. Chief Seattle despite knowing all of this,
still attempts to get the white people to understand, because he doesn t want the two peoples, white

The Federal License Motor Carrier Safety Administration is where you have to get the licenses and
permits. The license and permits are listed below:
ICC/MC number or Your Own Authority.
DOT number,
A. IFTA (Interstate Fuel Tax Authority) cists $590 per truck yearly.
B. KYU (License to operate in the state of Louisiana).
Operating Tags, which are your licenses to put on the trucks, costs $1590 yearly.
2290/Schedule 1 is a schedule to have a heavy highway vehicle.
IRP Card is your state license and permit.
Trailer Tags are another license to carry on the tractor.
These licenses must be done before putting the heavy equipment on the highway. When you are
leasing your truck to a broker, they will make sure this will be done when you join his/her company.
Insurance
Insurance is the most important thing to have for both truck and trailer. Each truck has two types of
insurances. The trucks are to be insured with an on called load, or loaded and bob tailed when not
under a load. Today many accidents happen by four wheelers and trucks. An owner operator cannot
drive without insurance; he/she must have this before getting licenses and permits. The truck must be
insured at the minimum of $100,000 to be accepted.
Reasons
The reasons for this new transportation business is because of many changes in the transportation laws
concerning the hours of service and not enough trucks to get the cargo around the states. The hours of
service have been causing the markets

Naturalistic Observation On Door Holding Behavior
The door holding behavior of 63 young adults was observed as they walking through the doors of a
university dining hall. People entering or exiting the building were only considered participants of the
study if they had an opportunity to hold the door for a person behind them; those who walked through
the door without anyone behind them were excluded from the study. Informed consent was not
obtained from the participants.
Design
This naturalistic observation was conducted to observe the door holding behaviors performed by
young adults as a way to examine courteousness, or consideration of others.
Three possible behaviors were identified: Did Not Hold, Held Door, Stepped Aside. A coding of Did
Not Hold meant that the participant had the opportunity to hold the door for the person behind them,
but did not make any attempt to do so. Held Door was coded when a participant held his or her hand

The experimenter hypothesized that the Hold Door behavior would occur most frequently. The results
of the study support this hypothesis, as more than three fourths of the participants performed this
behavior. Researchers seeking to replicate this study should consider some of its limitations. Since
college students schedules vary, a more representative sample could have been obtained had the
observations taken place at several different times of day. Additionally, the fact that the study was
conducted at a dining hall may have affected the results, as it is possible that people who did not have
a campus meal plan were unintentionally excluded from the study. Recording door holding behaviors
at multiple different on campus locations may help to establish a more representative sample of adults

Binary Search Tree Essay
For the main portion of the project, or implementing and performing operations on both a binary
search tree linked list structure, and a max heap linked list structure, the main function of the program
contains several do while loops, with calls to various other functions, in order to provide a menu based
interface, for user functionality. Overall, the program implements numerous functions, including
createBST, createHeap, buildHeap, disPreOrder, disLevelOrder, searchBST, searchHeap, insertBST,
insertHeap, createHeapInsertionList, addHeapInsertionList, enQueue, deQueue, and isEmpty.
Regarding time complexity, the createBST function contains a single for loop, in order to insert a
specified number of nodes into ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While the dispPreOrder function, only executes once per call, recursively, the dispPreOrder function is
required to execute N times, where N represents the number of nodes necessary for processing
through the function. Therefore, the dispPreOrder function contains an order of N, or O(N) in Big O
notation. Moreover, the dispLevelOrder function contains a single while loop, in order to construct a
queue of nodes, by level, in order to develop a traversal by each level of the tree like structure. With a
single while loop, and calls to the enQueue, deQueue, and isEmpty functions, the dispLevelOrder
function executes, or conducts iterations a total of N times, where N represents the number of
iterations through the while loop. Therefore, the dispLevelOrder function contains an order of N, or
O(N) in Big O notation. The searchBST function is implemented as a recursive function, searching
through an already constructed a binary tree. In relation to a binary search tree, the searchBST
function executes only once per call, but executes log2N times, as the searching work is partitioned.
Therefore, the searchBST function contains an order of log2N, or O(log2N) in Big O notation. As
designed for the cases presented within the program, the searchHeap function contains a single while
loop, in order to iterate through a queue of nodes, by level, in order to match a given, user entered key,

Catholic Education Research Paper
I cannot describe what Catholic Education means to me currently without recalling what it once meant
to me. Catholic Education meant different things to me at different stages of my life. From
kindergarten to around grade 5, Catholic Education was just education. I knew public schools existed.
I understood that Catholic schools engaged students in the Catholic faith. Like my peers I would pray,
listen during religion lessons, and sit cross legged on the gymnasium floor, cramped together with 500
other students. The masses meant nothing to me. (They really just meant discomfort because my legs
would always fall asleep.) I listened to most lessons passively all the time, and religion lessons were
no exception. Prayers were only memorized ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I came to conclusions about my faith and Catholic Education. Catholic Education still does not mean
much to me. However, it brings together people who (most of the time) come from a
Catholic/Christian backgrounds, and creates a sense of community. For that I appreciate Catholic
Education. What I do not find as nice about Catholic schools is that despite being centred around
religion, people in Catholic schools can be just as mean spirited, rude, and uncompassionate as people
in public schools, if not worse. I am aware that it is unrealistic to assume that those in Catholic schools
are all wonderful people, but I find reality ironic. In my opinion, Catholic Education is like public
education, except Catholic students have school masses and are obligated to take religion courses. As I
introduced previously, being subject to Catholic Education and those devoutly religious for the better
part of 13 years has guided me to my brand of Catholicism so to speak. Catholic Education has
inadvertently, or possibly intentionally, started me off on my own spiritual path by showing me what I
do not like about Catholicism (eg. the belief that not going to church is bad). Spirituality and personal
religious beliefs are lifelong works in progress, and I suppose that without Catholic Education my
progress would have started later in my

Honeywell
Introduction
Honeywell is a Multibillion dollar company, operating in 95 countries and is a pioneer in the field of
control system and industrial appliances. With revenue over $7.3 Billion and income above $400
Million (December 1996), the company was exposed to several types of risk as it operated in a global
territory.
Previously, the company had a much compartmentalised approach to risk management, with
individual departments managing individual risks pertaining to them. For instance, currency risks
were hedged using futures contracts and under the supervision of the Financial Risk Management Unit
while traditional (hazard) risks were insured by its treasury Insurance Risk Management Unit.
However, this individualistic approach ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

How Corporate Scandals Crush the Company, Investors, and...
Tracing back the history of accounting scandals, major corporate scandals not only hurt the economy
but also crush investors confidence on investing in companies. For example, the Enron scandal, the
WorldCom scandal, and so on. The majority of corporate scandals are created by greedy corporate
senior officers. One way to create a scandal is cooking the books . Cooking the book is an accounting
term which means making false financial statements in order to meet the number that investors or
banks expected. In this case, Richard Scrushy is one of the greedy Chief Executive Officers (CEO).
According to Washington Post, Richard Scrushy, was a self made son of the new South, a former
teenage parent who hauled himself up from a menial job to become an emperor of the new economy
(Steve Barnette, Washington Post). Richard Scrushy, the CEO and the founder of HealthSouth
Corporation, was one of the most successful and respected business men in the state of Alabama. This
is a story of a fallen American dream. HealthSouth Corporation is the United States largest inpatient
rehabilitative hospital. HealthSouth provides the services of rehabilitative care to patients recovering
from all kinds of conditions. It started in 1984, the company was originally named Amcare Inc. By the
end of 1990, HealthSouth expanded to 50 facilities all over the United States. HealthSouth reach $400

Ethical Issues In Dementia
Introduction Symptom management of Dementia at end of life is often sub optimal, although symptom
burdens may be similar to cancer, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) or advanced heart
failure. Dementia may exist with several co morbid conditions, and death may occur from various
causes (Jones et al., 2015). Ethical issues arise in the work place a lot and they are something that can
be hard to navigate your way around. Knowing what the right thing to do can be a hard decision to

They lose parts of themselves I cannot even imagine how hard it would be to cope. I have watched
patients suffer for years with terrible symptoms and there is nothing I can do for them. I often wonder
why we treat a disease such as dementia the way that we do. If someone with cancer was told that the
physician could not cure them of their disease and would eventually die from this disease, that patient
would be put on palliative care and would not be on life sustaining medications or treatments. The
difference between dementia and cancer is that dementia has a much slower progression and death can
vary in time. Everyone diagnosed with dementia will eventually die from this disease. When doing my
research it showed me that there is very little research done on this topic. This disease takes almost
everything from patients and they are forced to suffer through the symptoms while taking medications
to make sure their hypertension is being controlled. I am an advocate for letting people with dementia
be able to make decisions for themselves, even if I do not think that they are of sound mind. I they
refuse to take medication that I know is going to make help them manage no life threatening
conditions, I will not force them to take the medication because of their incompetent state. When the
disease process has progressed people with dementia should not be forced to suffer through length
health problems, they should be put into palliative care and be made as comfortable as

Democracy in Singapore
2. Is there democracy in Singapore?
What is Democracy?
Singapore has been recognized as a representative democratic state since August 1965. However, to
examine if Singapore is in fact democratic, we need to first define the word democracy and its
parameters. The word originated from M.Fr democratis in the 1570s, with demo referring to common
people and cratie to rule of strength. Therefore, by definition, Singapore can be classified as a
democratic country due to the fair elections which enable her people to choose their government.
Democracy is the worst form of government, except for all those other forms that have been tried from

Further, the time period between each General Election in Singapore is also relatively longer than the
other democratic states, such as the Unite States, where elections are held consistently every four
years. The announcement of the election dates are also only released just before the election itself.
This inflexibility in the political system is detrimental to the opposition parties and also place severe
restrictions on the citizens in terms of their rights to decide when to have an election.
Chief reasons for the PAP s continued dominance
The PAP s ability to maintain its hegemony till date can be attributed to two main reasons, firstly, the
PAP has been introducing schemes in the electorate system to suppress the opposition and secondly,
the PAP s control over the grassroots organizations have established the required link between itself
and the citizens.
Nominated Member of Parliament (NMP)
As mentioned earlier, the NMP scheme has been employed by the PAP to function as an institution to
prevent potential opposition by taking the talented and qualified individual inside their ranks, thus
greatly limiting the pool of talent for the opposition right from the onset. Quoting Bilver Singh, by
bringing these talents into the political system in a safe and non threatening manner, the PAP is
effectively denying the oppositional forces the possibility of recruiting these talents into their ranks.

Legalization Of Marijuana For Medical Purposes Essay
Legalization of Marijuana for Medical Purposes What is Marijuana?
Marijuana is a kind of drug. Similar to other drugs, it has positive and negative effects which depends
on how much a person intakes. Marijuana refers to the different parts of a plant called Cannabis
Sativa. Marijuana is similar to a cigarette as it is also rolled and smoked. The two main components of
Marijuana are Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and Cannabidiol (CBD). Though both components have
positive effects, THC is actually the bad component of Marijuana that makes it addictive and heavily
stimulates the brain while CBD is the component that mostly provides different good effects.
Along with THC and CBD, Marijuana houses 483 known compounds. These compounds such as
cannabidiol (CBD), cannabinol (CBN), and tetrahydrocannabivarin (THCV) all have specific
distinctions which lead to several effects. The Cannabis plant was originally intended for medical use
but because of the lack of discipline of the people who use it, it then becomes addictive and leads to
several bad effects such as anxiety, loss of balance, and even death.
Historical Background of Marijuana
The earliest recorded use of marijuana is from Central and South Asia in the 3rd millennium BCE,
wherein there is evidence of inhalation of smoke at an ancient ritual brazier at an ancient burial site in
present day Romania. There is also evidence of cannabis consumption found in Egyptian mummies
dated about 950 BC.

Distorted Perceptions in F. Scott Fitzgerald s Tender is the Night
Any visitor to the French Riviera in the mid 1920s, the setting of F. Scott Fitzgerald s Tender is the

noble man who has dedicated his life to the health and protection of his beloved wife without thought
to himself. Furthermore, he gives wonderful parties and is a reliable source of help to any friend in
need. In fact, to be included in Dick Diver s world for a while was a remarkable experience

Later, while on the shore with his family, Dick decides to attempt a foolish trick involving a speed
boat, inspired by the closeness of Rosemary s exciting youth (282). This desperately insecure need for
external validation is characteristic of a prepubescent level of maturity which Dick surely should have
overcome long ago.
As his descent continues, Dick is even less convincingly able to act like the mature professional. He
gets drunk more frequently and is involved in a violent fight with some taxi drivers, and later he
inadvertently insults Mary North s in laws, showing he has lost some of his previously impeccable
manners. Even his mentally ill wife can see the results of his behavior, telling him, You re a coward!
You ve made a failure of your life and you want to blame it on me (301). Dick has seemingly given up
on acting like a grown up and all of its difficulties in favor of a more immature, morally ignorant
lifestyle.
Not only does Dick Diver s longing for youthful innocence show in his own youthful behavior, but
also in his attraction to much younger women, both paternally and sensually. His relationships with
Rosemary, his children, Nicole, and others reflect almost incestuous motives, a result of Dick s
fascination with immaturity (Stanton, 118). Starting with relatively unimportant evidence, it is
reported that after the divorce, Dick moved to upstate New York and

Religion Belief Systems in Australia post 1945
Question 1:
Aboriginal religion is based on land. Land is the heart of Aboriginal Dreaming and provides the
assurance needed for the continuation of rituals and ceremonies (king, 2010, p.213). The effect of
Dispossession on Aboriginal spiritualities related to the separation from their land was enormous and
overwhelmingly detrimental.
The impact of British colonisation resulted in Australia being declared terra nullius land belonging to
no one and Aboriginal peoples were subject to policies of dispossession and protectionism in a bid to

However, Aboriginal people still struggle for more than words on paper. They require the enactment of

Question 2:
In the period 1947 2006, the Australian population grew from about 7.6 million to about 20 million.
During this time there was an overall decline in the percentage of people identifying with a religion
(frost course notes, 2010).
According to source 2 Christianity remained the dominant religion in Australia, although non
Christian religions continued to grow at a much faster rate. Since 1996, Christianity grew from around
12.6 million to 12.7 million, but compared to the other religions and the total population this number
fell from 71% to 64%. Within Christianity, Anglicans dropped from 22% of the population to 18.7%,
and therefore resulted in a decrease growth of 4.7 within the time period of 10 years. Over the same
period of time non Christian religions increased from around 0.6 million to 1.1 million people, and
collectively accounted for 5.6% of the total population in 2006 (king, 2010, p.221).

The United States Army Officer And Private Security...
Quelling Fear
Cyril Richard Rick Rescorla was a United States Army officer and private security officer originally
from the United Kingdom who served in Northern Rhodesia and as a commissioned officer in the
Vietnam War, where he was a second lieutenant in the United States Army. After the 1988 bombing of
Pan Am Flight 103 over Lockerbie, Scotland, Rescorla began to worry about a terrorist attack on the
World Trade Center. When Rescorla asked Daniel Hill, a friend from Rhodesia that was trained in
counter terrorism measures, how he would attack the building were he a terrorist, Hill asked to see the
basement. The two walked down to the basement parking garage without being stopped by any visible
security, Hill pointed to an easily accessible load bearing column, explaining how easy it would be for
an attack to be carried out in a similar manner. That year, Rescorla and Hill wrote a report to the Port
Authority of New York and New Jersey, which owns the site, insisting on the need for more security in
the parking garage. Their recommendations, which would have been expensive to implement, were
ignored (Stewart, 2002).
Following the 1993 World Trade Center Bombing, Rescorla invited Hill to New York, where he hired
him as a security consultant in order to assess the building s security. Although no arrests had yet been
made in the case, Rescorla suspected that the bomb had been planted by Muslims. Hill went

Importance of MIS to an organization
The field of MIS can deliver many benefits to enterprises in every industry. Every department in an
organization has different needs for information. Consequently, management information system helps
each department differently. Described below are the major departments in an organization and how
each department utilize MIS:
Accounting Department: Data and information are the lifeblood of accounting. It needs good quality
data to yield valuable information. Management information system helps the accounting department
accomplish this task. Also, professional management information system reports are created by the
accounting department for accurate analysis of the business performance. These reports are
comprehensive and assist the middle and top management in determining the right decisions regarding
the finance, accounting and overall business operations. All accounting reports are important to all
stakeholders of a company. (Management Information System Reports)
Finance Department: Financial management information system (FMIS) is installed for timely,
relevant and accurate information to support better business decisions. FMIS helps the organization
integrate financial information to achieve the business s long term strategic plan. It also helps the

This is because, having passed the age where children learn things in a simple way, Genie would not
benefit much from the fast approach. It is difficult for a person in their adult age to grasp things in

more time for them learn and effectively interact with the environment. I would handle Irene s with
more special care and at the same time being more observant to identify any possible development.
This is because, having experience untold harm, Genie s rehabilitation and care to a normal person
would require extra attention and a step by step evaluation.
Since Genie, demonstrated no sense of personality, leave alone that of sexuality, I would apply the
slow approach to get Genie learn the environment. This would enable her effectively discover things
by herself through experience. When Genie was eighteen years old, she still had a lot of difficulty in
learning basic aspects of life. As a researcher, I would have located her to an appropriate environment,
probably a rehabilitation center where she would start to learn by discovering things by her own. The
handling of the Genie s case was subjected into three big mistakes. Firstly, the psychologist who
developed as attention to study her case placed her in an appropriate position and condition. As she
was already a severe victim, Genie would have

The Importance Of Extreme Work
Extreme work in organisations
The main focus of this argument is on how extreme work is moving into everyday organisational
domains and why might this be something we should be concerned about. The first question that
comes to our mind is; are extreme jobs and extreme work the same subject? Jobs involving the
constancy of extreme working, with work spilling over a range of temporal, spatial and social
boundaries, refusing containment, as evidenced in the growth of corporate overwork cultures
(Bozkurt, 2015) whereas extreme work is work that is being carried out in dangerous, high pressure,
unpredictable, risky situations (Bloomfield Dale 2015). Although only extreme jobs are supposed to
have extremity in the work place, nowadays even normal jobs have phases in which they have to
handle a lot of extreme work. These phases effect the working of the management drastically in many
ways, both positively and negatively. The rapid increase of extreme working conditions in normal jobs
is a paramount issue, thus the question; why is extreme work moving into our everyday organisational
domains hits us.
Even in the occupations not known for intense, dirty or risky work tasks, there is a growing sense in
which normal workplaces are becoming extreme , especially in relation to work intensity, long hours
cultures and the normalizing of extreme work behaviours and cultures (Granter, McCann and Boyle,
2015); like the work of a shopkeeper at Apple, when a new product is launched

world. Once again this novel was written for Teens, and for them to get to know the world isn t nice
like they think it is when they were young. The Chocolate War shows the reader what happens in life
and explains nothing is sweet. Robert Cormier even went on to say before he died that he did
something right because there wouldn t be all these concerns about an ineffective book. The banning

The Theory Of Plate Tectonics And Earth s Crust Displacement
For millions of years the Earth has experienced geologic catastrophes. Since the existence of Theia
itself, the Earth s crust has been formed, deformed, and even demolished. The crust has never been a
completed masterpiece due to this. Why is this? The most recent physical changes were caused by the
theory of plate tectonics and earth s crust displacement. Plate tectonics and its movement resulted in
our continents drifting across the earth s surface, and the creation of mountain belts, volcanoes, and
the faults of today s Earth. A German meteorologist and explorer Alfred Wegener put forth the theory
of continental drift in the early 1900 s. Wegener pointed out that the earth s continents looked as if
they were all connected at one point in time. He also pointed out that some of earth s features,
including the long S shaped mountain structure formed on the Atlantic seafloor, could fit snugly
against the corresponding western seafloor of Europe and Africa (Sieh and LeVay 1998). Wegener
proposed that all of the earth s continents once formed one single landmass, which he named Pangaea
or all land . He concluded that Pangaea had broken up and separated due to the unidentifiable forces
estimated 300 million years ago (Sieh and LeVay 1998). Geologists did not fully understand at the
time that Earth s continents could drift (Hazen 2012). After all, the continents do not float in the
oceans. They are made from a solid material connecting to the mantle, a sphere of solid rock

Naval History
Naval History and Heritage Command (NHHC) Archaeologist Dr. George Schwarz was joined by
more than 45 volunteers from nearly a dozen organizations wading through dense vegetation and
sifting through Florida sand Feb. 18 20 in the hopes of finding more clues to a Navy aircraft crash that
happened more than seven decades ago. Osteen resident Rodney Thomas uncovered what appeared to
be a part from an aircraft more than three years ago when he was experimenting with a new metal
detector on his property. After finding dozens of pieces, he decided he wanted to learn about what
might have led to the crash, and perhaps the identity of the pilot. He contacted Scott Storz, a volunteer
at the DeLand Naval Air Station Museum (DNASM), in search of help ... Show more content on

I m doing my graduate thesis on submerged aircraft sites so when I heard about this project from my
professor, I jumped at the opportunity to gain experience documenting fallen aircraft parts, said
Mauro. This was my first time working closely with metal detectorists so they showed me how to
interpret the results on their screens when they scan an item. Some of these volunteers are retired
veterans, they all had guesses on what certain distinguishable aircraft parts were. The largest group of
volunteers, 30 people came from The Central Florida Metal Detecting Club (CFMDC), which had
been asked by Storz to assist Thomas in evaluating the parts he was finding. In December, they
uncovered many more artifacts, which prompted the phone call first to the National Naval Aviation
Museum, and then to NHHC. Schwarz requested that the CFMDC halt their search for the artifacts
until a plan could be developed to more methodically assess the site. He then asked for the GPS
coordinates of the

The Role Of Follower As A Leader
Leadership Scholarly Paper
What is a leader and what is a follower? In any organized structure, business, or grouping these two
key positions will be represented. Chaleff (2009) stated that if one looked up the subject of leadership
they would be bombarded with numerous titles on the subject, but if one looked up the follower they
would most likely only find the subject as it relates to leaders. The purpose of this paper is to identify
the role of the follower as compared with a leader. This is followed by examine two types of
interaction between leadership and followers. These interactions will be illustrated through clinical
situations using staff nurses. Finally this paper will examine the power and responsible of a staff nurse
as a follower without any official authority.
Effective Follower
Leader
To understand the concept of an effective follower one must first examine the leader as it has much
more information write about it. Porter O Grady and Malloch (2013) are quick to point out what a
leader is not and that is a manager. They discuss how a leader and manager though commonly thought
to be the same thing are in fact very different with a manager be a position that is gained or granted
and leadership is a quality and ability to inspire others (Porter O Grady Malloch, 2013).
Dr. Michael Blelch (2014) states that during his study of the theory of leadership he discovered that
the concept was constantly changing, evolving and adapting. There are several types of

Roman architecture was responsible for developing many...
Roman architecture was responsible for developing many different building styles and techniques and
the creation of various new ones. Ancient Rome expanded quickly from a small town (founded in
753bc) situated on the Tiber River, to an empire with one fifth of the world s population under its
control. This displayed the strength that they possessed, and the control of many different cultures led
to the acquisition of a range of typologies. The result of the architectural influence of other nations
(mainly the Greeks and the Etruscans) led to many great masterpieces of art and building design. The
Romans took many pre existing ideals and developed them into new technologies and ways of living;
architecture is just one of these developments. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Greeks started building corbelled arches and creating arch shaped voussoirs. These worked well,
however, they did not discover the strength or span the distances that the Romans were able to. The
widest known Greek archway spans only 7.35m, whereas the Romans built many great triumphal
arches to emphasise their power in victory. Marcus Vitruvius Pollio wrote about the qualities a
successful arch should entail, these were: utility, strength and aesthetics (Vitruvius, M., 1914). He
wanted them to be built according to anthropometrics; symmetry and proportions of the human body.
The full potential of the arch was reached when the Romans discovered the impressive compressive
strength of the arch, meaning that they could span greater distances and create great heights using
these new found qualities. Some of the most notable uses of the arch can be seen through Aqueducts,
vast interiors and in, potentially, the most famous arched building; the Roman Colosseum.
The Roman Colosseum is a four story tall amphitheatre which was able to seat up to 50,000
spectators. The first three stories contained stone benches and the top gallery was created with wooden
bleachers for women, children and people of lower classes. In this instance, the Roman use of the arch
was a major transformation from its prior use by the Greeks, allowing them to create visually stunning
and solidly constructed masterpieces. This was

Standard Coding Theory Project Report
EE 653 CODING THEORY PROJECT REPORT REDUCING THE GAP TO CAPACITY OF A
RATE 1/3 CODE VIA CONVOLUTIONAL ENCODING/DECODING ARUN PRAKASH
NACHIMUTHU MARIA HASHMI ABSTRACT In this project we are trying to minimize the gap to
capacity of a channel given by Shannon s theoretical limit of a rate 1/3 code. This is done through a
convolutional encoding/decoding by varying memory elements for both soft and hard decision
decoding. The basic concepts associated with the convolution code with its encoding and decoding
schemes are used in this project. Using Shannon s optimal code we compare the gap to capacity of the
algorithm that is implemented. Finally we show that the gap to capacity can be minimized with respect
to the sub optimal un coded code word or a 1/3 repetition code. INTRODUCTION For a given code
rate constraint of R= 1/3, a binary input AWGN channel this project presents various convolutional
decoder and encoder of varying memory element sizes to reduce the gap to capacity of a code with
respect to Shannon s limit. SHANONS CAPACITY THEOREM AND CHANNEL CODING Despite
the presence of noise, the error performance of a data communication system can be decreased to an
arbitrarily low error rate, so long as the data rate was below a certain level (i.e.) the presence of noise
limits the data rate not the error rate. To improve the error performance of communication system
requires larger Bandwidth. If we are willing to accept erroneous data, the capacity of any

How Do Greek Gods And Goddesses Act Like Humans
The gods and goddesses in Greek and Roman mythology don t actually behave like divine beings.
They act more like humans with great power and authority. Even Jove, the ruler of all the gods, doesn
t always act like a divine being. The gods and goddesses in Greek and Roman mythology act like
humans, rather than divine beings.
First, the gods have an unrighteous jealousy. For example, Jove has many wives and many sons and
daughters by these wives. Jove s first wife, Juno, is very jealous of Jove s other wives. She is mean to
the other wives; she even turns one of them into a bear. She also tries to kill some of the other wives
sons, this is the case with Heracles, also known as Hercules. Juno sends two large snakes to kill
Heracles, but he strangles them with his bare hands. On one occasion, Jove sends Juno, Minerva and
Venus to a shepherd named Paris, who is told to choose the goddess who is the most beautiful. He
chooses Venus, which makes Juno and Minerva very jealous. Paris is a Trojan, so during the Trojan
war, both Juno and Minerva ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This happens multiple times in mythology. Pluto, god of the Underworld, carries off Proserpine and
makes her his queen. Her mother Ceres goes looking her and discovers that she is in the Underworld.
Jove doesn t completely release her because she eats a pomegranate while she is down there. As a
result, she spends half the year with her mother and the other half with her husband Pluto. In another
instance, Jove disguises himself as a bull and carries off Europa, daughter of King Agenor. The king
sends his son Cadmus to search for Europa, though it doesn t mention if he ever finds her or not. Gods
are not the only ones who carry people off. Aurora, goddess of the dawn, carries off a man whose
name is Cephalus, whose new wife is Procris. He loves Procris very much and resists Aurora s
entreaties and she finally lets him go back to his

San Francisco, California, inmates that were considered the most dangerous were transferred here to

experiences while imprisoned in Alcatraz including his perspective of the well known Battle of
Alcatraz . Jim Quillen was born in San Francisco, California in 1919. Quillen was transferred to
Alcatraz in 1942 released in 1952 and is now a writer expressing his personal feelings of Alcatraz.

To his knowledge he was the youngest one there at the time. Quillen immediately saw how harsh the
conditions were at Alcatraz. Quillen initially approached this jail the way he did with other things in
life and that was to look for the fastest way out. Quillen and others did try to escape but failed.
Throughout the time Quillen was in prison he witnessed one of the most intense attempted escapes
that occurred in Alcatraz history. It was known to the public that there were a total a six participants,
but according to Quillen there were only five involved directly in this incident. In 1946 one afternoon
participant one Bernard Coy was able to break into the Gun Gallery, this initiated the incident. Coy
had a plan to escape along with two other inmates, Marvin F. Hubbard and Joseph P. Cretzer. Coy and
Cretzer were able to get a hold of a rifle and a pistol in their hand. At this point the officers called for
backup now involving the U.S. Marines, U.S. Navy gunboats. When Coy and Cretzer felt no way out
they tried hiding in a dark and small tunnel. This was where officials saw the opportunity to enter the
corridor shooting them down without hurting any other inmate. After over thirty six hours later three
officials came in the corridor to find Coys , Cretzers and Hubbard s bodies with multiple gunshots.
Even though three other inmates went along with this they were not directly involved. Not only were

Rural Beggars In The Ballet Class By Edgar Degas
are going onto the field after the harvest and picking up the leftovers of corn. They are a type of rural
beggars in an old traditional way. At the distance grain stack are seen piled up and the people who
harvested them are bent over exhausted after harvesting all the crops. Large bundles of grain are
visible in the background. In the foreground the three women are seen working almost in a solitary
manner, collecting the leftovers to feed their families. On close observation it is seen that they have a
white cloth tied around their hips which looks a bit heavy indicating they have been collecting these
leftovers for a while. Yet this amount is very small compared to the enormous harvest in the
background. A man sitting on a horse can be seen in the background which looks like he is supervising
the work done by the harvesters. He pays no attention to these three women at all. Even though these
women are some kind of beggars they still appear strong and well fed. The colour used on the women
is contrasting to the background. They are bent and hence and below the horizon line. Their bent over
round shape somehow blends and adds a rhythm to the piles of harvest in the background. Millet is

Degas attended the opera and was fascinated by the ballet dancers. He was allowed backstage by a
friend. He studied every movement of the dancers, their body language, each pause and every
expression on their faces. In his painting the dancers are seen stretching and adjusting their outfits. His
fascination was more towards the rehearsal than the performance on stage. The dancers in his painting
are seen playing with their hair and ribbons giving little attention to their master. They look exhausted
in the painting. Even though this is the work of an impressionist a little bit of perspective can be seen

  • 2. The Human Relations Movement Of George Elton Mayo Managers throughout history have been interested in studying ways to increase productivity. For example, Frederick Taylor began the movement of scientific management in the 1880 s. Scientific management looked to improve productivity through means of scientific analysis of worker s tasks and work processes rather than the old rule of thumb (Taylor, 1914). Taylor believed that he could maximize worker efficiency and productivity through focusing on workers specific hand motions and patterns. After this period, beginning in about the 1930 s, managers looked to take productivity to yet another level by studying worker physiology and motivation. This new movement came to be known as the human relations movement. George Elton Mayo is credited with founding the human relations movement. Mayo conducted an experiment in the 1920 s and 1930 s know as the Hawthorne study. Two of the main aspects of the study centered around illumination in the work place and varying levels of break time and work hours (WickstrΓΆm, 2000). The illumination study consisted of four different experiments over the course of three years. In each experiement, there was a control group and a study group. In the varying studies, the researchers experimented with varying levels of light and varying sequences of increasing and decreasing the level of light ( Hawthorne effect ). Throughout the experiments, researchers would often find patterns of increased productivity, leading them to believe that they had ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Live By Night Analysis The magazine Women In Crime clearly fits into the crime fiction genre of the 1950s. It does this through women being represented as sexually attractive and in power over men, because at the time women being strong and deceitful was popular among Crime fiction writers. It shows the sexual attraction through the low cut dress, showing lots of skin, the stocking and the dark hair. All of these aspects of a woman at that particular time were seen as very attractive and desirable. The cover shows the lady in power through a male hand showing her jewelry but she looks unimpressed as if manipulating the man and acting angry to get what she wants. Live By Night fits into the Crime fiction genre through conventions such as the dull colors in the cover, suggesting a dark and brutal story about violence and crime, also the dark sleuth taking up the cover. The colors used in the cover consist of black and white being used as the background and the detective and the red being used for text. These colors are generally the only three used in crime fiction covers, as they support the dark and suspicious feel of the crime fiction stories. The title of the book also fits into the colors used in the cover, as the book is called Live By Night, which implies dark environments. The man in the front of the cover is representing the detective of modern day crime fiction stories. The audience can expect the detective to be a man who goes out at night looking for clues and solving crime as he is in the dark in the cover and it fits in with the title. • 4. Fermat s Last Theorem Research Paper Fermat s Last Theorem Pierre de Fermat, born in 1601, hailed by many as the king of amateurs , was a French lawyer and mathematics hobbyist. In the margin of his copy of Diophantus Arithmetica, he scribbled a note that would perplex and puzzle event the greatest mathematicians for the next 350 years. In this margin, Fermat wrote that there were no positive integers that can fill in x, y, and z of xn+yn=zn, where n represents a number higher than two. This equation was based on Pythagorean triples, infinite triplets of numbers that could satisfy the equation xn+yn=zn where n represents 2. the problem arose when Fermat noted that, I have found a truly marvelous demonstration of this proposition which this margin is too narrow to contain. This supposed proof was never revealed. This was not strange for Fermat, as he had a reputation of concealing his proof in order to frustrate his colleagues, and in Arithmetica, he frequently left out his proof. The thing that made this particular equation stand out was the fact that after Fermat s death in 1665 and the posthumous publishing of his Arithmetica, all other marginal conjectures were verified while this last ... • 5. Buber And Arendt Approaches To Zionism In my paper, I will be compared Buber and Arendt s approaches to Zionism. Although they both have the same humanist perspective on Zionism, their approaches in their discussion of Zionism is exceedingly different. Therefore, although both Buber and Arendt recognize the importance of incorporating the Palestinians in the process of the creation of a Jewish state, Buber has a more optimistic view than Arendt. However, both Buber and Arendt are critical of nationalism and imperialist power s influence in the creation of the Jewish homeland. Accordingly, this paper will assess both Buber and Arendt s views of Zionism and focus on their views of nationalism and the influence of outside powers. One thing that I believe is important is each ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Both Buber and Arendt recognize that nationalism played a vital role in the creation of the conflict. Buber recognized the rise of nationalism in Zionism and referred to as unambiguous demarcation of a kind, a degenerated kind of nationalism which of late has begun to spread even in Judaism. (Buber 48) Arendt and Buber were both concerned that Zionist movement would become exclusive and unappealing. Buber stressed the importance of including the Arabs in the dialogue and not making Zionism a repressive nationalistic ideology. Like Buber, Arendt was critical of the rise of nationalism which undermined the original goals of Zionism. Buber was concerned that the nationalist development would become a permanent fixture and would led to a downfall dyed in the colors of nationalism. (Buber 52) Therefore, both authors were disappointed with the direction that Zionism was going. Buber and Arendt s humanist Zionist view led them to hope for peace and cooperation and dialogue between the Jews and Arabs. Arendt recognized the dangers of nationalism that necessarily and admittedly depends upon the force of foreign nation is certainly worse. (Arendt 344) A major issue is that asking outside powers such as the British to create a Jewish homeland led to Balkanization in the region. Therefore, Arendt stresses the importance of having an understanding that takes into account the whole region and it s needs of all the peoples. (Arendt 345) Moreover, Arendt ... CHAPTER 3 During the Colonial Society in the 18th Century many things happened Colonial Growth, Economic Boom, and the diverse branches of religion growing. Germans , Scott Irish and the Africans were some of the big groups arriving to the American Colonies. A representative government was present but only white male owners were limited to participate in the voting process. Everyone that wasn t a slave in this society had the opportunity to move up in social status. • 7. A Comparison Of Maroon V And One Band Maroon V and OneRepublic Maroon V (five). OneRepublic. Both of these are bands you have probably heard of on the radio at least once. Maroon V is quite a bit further ahead than OneRepublic despite the fact that they are just a few years apart in age. The reasoning behind that could be that they are obviously similar. It is probably just because Adam Levine is a swoon worthy man. There are many ways in which the bands are similar, but are there really that many in the ways they are different? Well, when it comes to how you can differentiate the two, the only way to do it is to go through the statistics. Both Maroon V and OneRepublic s songs sound somewhat similar, but what makes them different is where they got their inspiration from. In an interview with Adam Levine, he stated that his band s inspiration came from a number of singers and bands, including Michael Jackson, Tupac, Justin Timberlake, Marvin Gaye, and Billy Joel. That was only a few. OneRepublic s Ryan Tedder stated that when the group gets together, they like to get a little bit of inspiration from some singers, but they like to make their music by whatever comes to them. The few influence OneRepublic had included M83, U2, and the Beatles. The only common influential artist between the two bands was Prince. Who wouldn t want to be like Prince? It wouldn t be until the afternoon at three o clock that Morgan would soon have to help Carlin and Slocum against the Confederates, due to Carlin s inability to stop them in the skirmishes. After Mitchell had placed his men into the appropriate area, Morgan s unit would march in. He would send one of his men to send a message to generals in the battle. First he sent a message to Davis requesting that Vandever s brigade (backed with the wagons at the rear of the corps) be rushed to him (Hughes Jr, 98). Morgan also sent one to Benjamin Fearing to ask if he could help General Mitchell by being at his right while having some of his men attack to help stiffen Vernon s skirmish line (Hughes Jr., 98). The usage of cloud built solutions depends on different elements, for example, the division in which the business works; the practicality of porting existing parts on cloud, size of the organization, and the area of customers and so on. It helps in reducing the time required as well as minimize the fixed cost of the company. Therefore, it is not logistic to make a single explanation of implementation of cloud computing technology. • 16. Brazil s The Unified Health System Essay In Brazil s recent history, the country s healthcare market has been largely inaccessible to foreign investment. The country has dedicated public funds to run health care facilities. According to (The Lancet, 2014), Brazil s 1998 constitution officially declared all citizens were entitled to healthcare. This provision birthed the Unified Health System (SUS). A system which relies heavily on taxes and government support. Historically, Brazil s government has blocked FDI inflows in the health sector. However stagnation, combined with a strong desire to spur economic growth, gave way to a major policy change. As noted by (Alves, 2015), in January 2015 a new provision was enacted by the Brazilian government to allow foreign investment in the health sector. This landmark policy alteration may mark the beginning of dramatic increases in the countries Healthcare sector over the next decade. Brazil s Healthcare system is divided into public (SUS) and private health coverage. As economic prosperity increased over the past 20 years, more citizens have opted to purchase better coverage in the public sector. • 18. Tyranny Research Paper In this essay I will attempt to prove that a typical tyrant does not exist as each have their own ambitions. The issue with asking whether there is such thing as a typical tyrant arises from the fact that we must consider what the word tyrant actually means. The Oxford Classical Dictionary states, Tyranny was not a special form of constitution, or necessarily a reign of terror; the tyrant might either rule directly or retain the existing political institutions but exercise a preponderant influence over their working, and his rule might be benevolent or malevolent. , clearly tyranny is not as simple as the modern connotation of a power hungry despot. In comparison, the Cambridge Dictionary Online defines tyranny as, government by a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Contrary to the modern view of a tyrant as a warlord, some were actually quite invested in the arts and in building projects. Herodotos records that the same bloodthirsty Periander also supported the poet Arion in his invention of the dithyramb . This suggests another facet to Periander s character (he is not just bloodthirsty, he is political too) which makes it harder to state that there is such a thing as a common tyrant. Pausanias (AD 110 c.180) comments on Theagenes fountain house at Megara which was, remarkable for its size, beauty and the number of pillars ; this show of euergetism and munificence would make a tyrant seem important, powerful and remind the people that he is their leader. Interestingly, the tyrant of Samos, Polykrates paid the poet Ibykos to glorify himself with the quotation, ...and you Polykrates will have undying renown which is a contribution to the arts and a means of building his own prestige. Thus we see that some tyrants follow a more political and shrewd concept of governance which actually comes into conflict with Plato and Aristotle s views that a tyrants rule is barbaric in nature as these same tyrants use wisdom to craft their personae. In conclusion, there is no such thing as a typical tyrant as ambitions vary between each tyrant. Thus, a leader such as Pittakos is defined by Aristotle as an aisymnetes which is an elected tyrant whose rule is tyrant like and non ancestral meaning that it is not inherited like the Kypselid tyranny. This illustrates the point that tyrant is just a label used to depict one man rule and therefore it is difficult to speak of a common tyrant as they each their own ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Chief Seattle Speech Summary Two great chiefs, Tecumseh and Seattle, attempted to address the U.S. government s negligence against the Native American tribes, who preceded the very men who ignore their needs. Chief Seattle delivers a speech to President Pierce in 1855, and in it contrasts nature and artificial cities. There is no quiet place in man s cities, no place to hear the leaves of spring or the rustle of insect wings. But perhaps because I am a savage and do not understand, the clatter only seems to insult the ears. (Seattle). He uses imagery to describe the delicacy of nature to the crude artificialness of man s cities , and provide a greater understanding of how their lives differ. Chief Seattle knows that the President, just like all other white me, has preconceptions about Native Americans. He most likely believes them to be too simplistic for white society, and even more so fears them. He already knows that white men perceive them as savages and acknowledges this in his speech in a repetitive manner saying, but we are just savages and do not understand (Seattle) three times. Chief Seattle despite knowing all of this, still attempts to get the white people to understand, because he doesn t want the two peoples, white and red, to live in fear of the other. He wants them to change their ways, and stop destroying the Earth. He want s both the Tribes and the white men to become co inhabitants and stop fighting for the sake of land. However, it brings together people who (most of the time) come from a Catholic/Christian backgrounds, and creates a sense of community. For that I appreciate Catholic Education. What I do not find as nice about Catholic schools is that despite being centred around religion, people in Catholic schools can be just as mean spirited, rude, and uncompassionate as people in public schools, if not worse. I am aware that it is unrealistic to assume that those in Catholic schools are all wonderful people, but I find reality ironic. In my opinion, Catholic Education is like public education, except Catholic students have school masses and are obligated to take religion courses. As I introduced previously, being subject to Catholic Education and those devoutly religious for the better part of 13 years has guided me to my brand of Catholicism so to speak. Similar to other drugs, it has positive and negative effects which depends on how much a person intakes. Marijuana refers to the different parts of a plant called Cannabis Sativa. Marijuana is similar to a cigarette as it is also rolled and smoked. The two main components of Marijuana are Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and Cannabidiol (CBD). Though both components have positive effects, THC is actually the bad component of Marijuana that makes it addictive and heavily stimulates the brain while CBD is the component that mostly provides different good effects. Along with THC and CBD, Marijuana houses 483 known compounds. These compounds such as cannabidiol (CBD), cannabinol (CBN), and tetrahydrocannabivarin (THCV) all have specific distinctions which lead to several effects. The Cannabis plant was originally intended for medical use but because of the lack of discipline of the people who use it, it then becomes addictive and leads to several bad effects such as anxiety, loss of balance, and even death. This statement is from a researcher involved in studying cases of feral children: In the sad and mysterious case of __Genie_ we have an instance of developmental deficiency produced, not by a loss of senses, but by deprivation of the power of exercising them. Place the name of one of the feral cases covered in class in the blank space above then, in your own words tell me what you think this statement means as it relates to the case you chose as well as to all the cases of feral children. It is difficult for a person in their adult age to grasp things in their environment in a simple way like when they were in the childhood. Therefore it requires time more time for them learn and effectively interact with the environment. I would handle Irene s with more special care and at the same time being more observant to identify any possible development. This is because, having experience untold harm, Genie s rehabilitation and care to a normal person would require extra attention and a step by step evaluation. Since Genie, demonstrated no sense of personality, leave alone that of sexuality, I would apply the slow approach to get Genie learn the environment. This would enable her effectively discover things by herself through experience. When Genie was eighteen years old, she still had a lot of difficulty in learning basic aspects of life. As a researcher, I would have located her to an appropriate environment, probably a rehabilitation center where she would start to learn by discovering things by her own. The handling of the Genie s case was subjected into three big mistakes. Firstly, the psychologist who developed as attention to study her case placed her in an appropriate position and condition. As she was already a severe victim, Genie would have benefited much from a direct support rather than the multiple ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 39. The Importance Of Extreme Work Extreme work in organisations The main focus of this argument is on how extreme work is moving into everyday organisational domains and why might this be something we should be concerned about. The first question that comes to our mind is; are extreme jobs and extreme work the same subject? Jobs involving the constancy of extreme working, with work spilling over a range of temporal, spatial and social boundaries, refusing containment, as evidenced in the growth of corporate overwork cultures (Bozkurt, 2015) whereas extreme work is work that is being carried out in dangerous, high pressure, unpredictable, risky situations (Bloomfield Dale 2015). Although only extreme jobs are supposed to have extremity in the work place, nowadays even normal jobs have phases in which they have to handle a lot of extreme work. These phases effect the working of the management drastically in many ways, both positively and negatively. The rapid increase of extreme working conditions in normal jobs is a paramount issue, thus the question; why is extreme work moving into our everyday organisational domains hits us. Even in the occupations not known for intense, dirty or risky work tasks, there is a growing sense in which normal workplaces are becoming extreme , especially in relation to work intensity, long hours cultures and the normalizing of extreme work behaviours and cultures (Granter, McCann and Boyle, 2015); like the work of a shopkeeper at Apple, when a new product is launched ... • 41. The Theory Of Plate Tectonics And Earth s Crust Displacement For millions of years the Earth has experienced geologic catastrophes. Since the existence of Theia itself, the Earth s crust has been formed, deformed, and even demolished. The crust has never been a completed masterpiece due to this. Why is this? The most recent physical changes were caused by the theory of plate tectonics and earth s crust displacement. Plate tectonics and its movement resulted in our continents drifting across the earth s surface, and the creation of mountain belts, volcanoes, and the faults of today s Earth. A German meteorologist and explorer Alfred Wegener put forth the theory of continental drift in the early 1900 s. Wegener pointed out that the earth s continents looked as if they were all connected at one point in time. He also pointed out that some of earth s features, including the long S shaped mountain structure formed on the Atlantic seafloor, could fit snugly against the corresponding western seafloor of Europe and Africa (Sieh and LeVay 1998). Wegener proposed that all of the earth s continents once formed one single landmass, which he named Pangaea or all land . He concluded that Pangaea had broken up and separated due to the unidentifiable forces estimated 300 million years ago (Sieh and LeVay 1998). Geologists did not fully understand at the time that Earth s continents could drift (Hazen 2012). After all, the continents do not float in the oceans. • 43. The Role Of Follower As A Leader Leadership Scholarly Paper What is a leader and what is a follower? In any organized structure, business, or grouping these two key positions will be represented. Chaleff (2009) stated that if one looked up the subject of leadership they would be bombarded with numerous titles on the subject, but if one looked up the follower they would most likely only find the subject as it relates to leaders. The purpose of this paper is to identify the role of the follower as compared with a leader. This is followed by examine two types of interaction between leadership and followers. These interactions will be illustrated through clinical situations using staff nurses. Finally this paper will examine the power and responsible of a staff nurse as a follower without any official authority. Effective Follower Leader To understand the concept of an effective follower one must first examine the leader as it has much more information write about it. Porter O Grady and Malloch (2013) are quick to point out what a leader is not and that is a manager. They discuss how a leader and manager though commonly thought to be the same thing are in fact very different with a manager be a position that is gained or granted and leadership is a quality and ability to inspire others (Porter O Grady Malloch, 2013). Dr. Michael Blelch (2014) states that during his study of the theory of leadership he discovered that the concept was constantly changing, evolving and adapting. There are several types of ... • 44. Roman architecture was responsible for developing many... Roman architecture was responsible for developing many different building styles and techniques and the creation of various new ones. Ancient Rome expanded quickly from a small town (founded in 753bc) situated on the Tiber River, to an empire with one fifth of the world s population under its control. This displayed the strength that they possessed, and the control of many different cultures led to the acquisition of a range of typologies. The result of the architectural influence of other nations (mainly the Greeks and the Etruscans) led to many great masterpieces of art and building design. The Romans took many pre existing ideals and developed them into new technologies and ways of living; architecture is just one of these developments. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Greeks started building corbelled arches and creating arch shaped voussoirs. These worked well, however, they did not discover the strength or span the distances that the Romans were able to. The widest known Greek archway spans only 7.35m, whereas the Romans built many great triumphal arches to emphasise their power in victory. Marcus Vitruvius Pollio wrote about the qualities a successful arch should entail, these were: utility, strength and aesthetics (Vitruvius, M., 1914). He wanted them to be built according to anthropometrics; symmetry and proportions of the human body. The full potential of the arch was reached when the Romans discovered the impressive compressive strength of the arch, meaning that they could span greater distances and create great heights using these new found qualities. Some of the most notable uses of the arch can be seen through Aqueducts, vast interiors and in, potentially, the most famous arched building; the Roman Colosseum. The Roman Colosseum is a four story tall amphitheatre which was able to seat up to 50,000 spectators. The first three stories contained stone benches and the top gallery was created with wooden bleachers for women, children and people of lower classes. In this instance, the Roman use of the arch was a major transformation from its prior use by the Greeks, allowing them to create visually stunning and solidly constructed masterpieces. This was ... Standard Coding Theory Project Report EE 653 CODING THEORY PROJECT REPORT REDUCING THE GAP TO CAPACITY OF A RATE 1/3 CODE VIA CONVOLUTIONAL ENCODING/DECODING ARUN PRAKASH NACHIMUTHU MARIA HASHMI ABSTRACT In this project we are trying to minimize the gap to capacity of a channel given by Shannon s theoretical limit of a rate 1/3 code. This is done through a convolutional encoding/decoding by varying memory elements for both soft and hard decision decoding. The basic concepts associated with the convolution code with its encoding and decoding schemes are used in this project. Using Shannon s optimal code we compare the gap to capacity of the algorithm that is implemented. Finally we show that the gap to capacity can be minimized with respect to the sub optimal un coded code word or a 1/3 repetition code. INTRODUCTION For a given code rate constraint of R= 1/3, a binary input AWGN channel this project presents various convolutional decoder and encoder of varying memory element sizes to reduce the gap to capacity of a code with respect to Shannon s limit. SHANONS CAPACITY THEOREM AND CHANNEL CODING Despite the presence of noise, the error performance of a data communication system can be decreased to an arbitrarily low error rate, so long as the data rate was below a certain level (i.e.) the presence of noise limits the data rate not the error rate. To improve the error performance of communication system requires larger Bandwidth. If we are willing to accept erroneous data, the capacity of any ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

They act more like humans with great power and authority. Even Jove, the ruler of all the gods, doesn t always act like a divine being. The gods and goddesses in Greek and Roman mythology act like humans, rather than divine beings. First, the gods have an unrighteous jealousy. For example, Jove has many wives and many sons and daughters by these wives. Jove s first wife, Juno, is very jealous of Jove s other wives. She is mean to the other wives; she even turns one of them into a bear. She also tries to kill some of the other wives sons, this is the case with Heracles, also known as Hercules. Juno sends two large snakes to kill Heracles, but he strangles them with his bare hands. At the distance grain stack are seen piled up and the people who harvested them are bent over exhausted after harvesting all the crops. Large bundles of grain are visible in the background. In the foreground the three women are seen working almost in a solitary manner, collecting the leftovers to feed their families. On close observation it is seen that they have a white cloth tied around their hips which looks a bit heavy indicating they have been collecting these leftovers for a while.
