How Is Chris Gardner Untrue In The Pursuit Of Happyness
The movie, The Pursuit of Happyness, produced by Lassiter, Blumenthal, Tisch, Black, and Smith, is
loosely based on the true story of the struggle filled life of Chris Gardner and his rise from near
bankruptcy to becoming one of the greatest and richest stockbrokers in the San Francisco area, but
contains many details that are completely untrue, most importantly the idea that he sold bone density
scanners for a living. In the movie, Chris spends his life savings on a massive amount of bone density
scanners, which he relies on entirely for his income every day. However, the machines do not sell as
successfully as Chris hoped or expected, and he is left broke and struggling to support for his family,
which consists of his wife and his son, Christopher,

The First Experiments Of Water Treatment
A plumber is an adventurer who traces leaky pipes to their source (Arthur Baer). We have all heard the
saying, The plumber protects the health of the nation , but what does that really mean? Plumbing has
been around since 6500 BC, maybe even longer. Ancient water wells were found in the Jezreel Valley,
which historians date to be thousands of years old. This was one of the first signs of plumbing in the
ancient world. The Ancient Greek civilizations evolved plumbing, being the first ones to use
underground clay pipes for water distribution and sanitation. They were also one of the first ones to
create and use flush toilets. The 54Roman Empire used indoor plumbing to get water to individuals
inside buildings and homes. Plumbing is responsible for bringing water to people, because people
cannot survive without water. as we got into the modern age, plumbing started to evolve. The first
experiments of water treatment were happening in the early modern age. This would enable the supply
of clean, potable water to everyone. Plumbers are now responsible for the maintenance and sanitation
of all water supply systems and treatment plants. Plumbing is one of the most important job in the
world because plumbers are responsible for providing clean healthy water needed to live, plumbers are
responsible for providing water efficiency needed to avoid the serious world water shortage and
plumbers also help provide a safe non polluted environment. Plumbing is one of the most

Allegorical Garden of Eden in Sir Gawain and the Green...
Allegorical Garden of Eden in Sir Gawain and the Green Knight
Green helmet. Green body. Green blood. Such descriptions refer to a central character in Sir Gawain
and the Green Knight they depict the appearance of Bercilak as the Green Knight. The use of green is
a reflection of Garden of Eden imagery in the poem that portrays the Green Knight as a tempter, a
serpent, in the garden, Arthur s court. In Genesis account of Eden, Adam and Eve live in a perfect,
pure garden until the evil, green serpent successfully tempts them. When the serpent tells Eve that
consuming fruit from the forbidden tree the one God warned them not to eat from will result in the
same knowledge God holds, Eve convinces Adam to eat the apple. According to ... Show more content

During this feast, the knights and their guests eat lavishly and drink in excess they have all the meat
and mirth that one could devise (45) and celebrate In peerless pleasures . . . (50). The feast depicts a
worldly paradise with knights who act as they desire, as Adam and Eve were allowed to in Genesis.
However, Gawain s garden in not without sin.
The existence of sin is evident in Sir Gawain and the Green Knight. The sin in Gawain s garden
results from chivalry. The code of knighthood Gawain and other knights follow includes courage and
loyalty to one s lord. This courage and loyalty carries with it a sense of pride for the knights, pride that
causes them to sin. Thus, Gawain fails to follow a life of purity, for as he follows the code of
knighthood, he participates in Christian sin murder, drunkenness, pride. For instance, when the Green
Knight gives an offer to Arthur s court to play the beheading game, he initially receives no volunteers.
However, as Arthur attempts to participate, Gawain steps up and takes his place, for it is his role to be
loyal and fight for his lord. This is evident when he states, My body, but for your [Arthur] blood, is
barren of worth; / And for that this folly befits not a king, / And tis that I have asked it, it ought to be
mine ( 357 359). This, then, leads him to sin, to chop off another man s head.
Sin is evident even before the Green Knight s entrance the knights succumb to physical pleasures

What Does Rosh Hashanah Mean In The Jewish New Year
Every culture has a different way of keeping time, yet each culture signifies the New Year as a time
for fresh starts. Every New Year falls at a different time depending on the way that each culture keeps
time and organizes their calendars. Religions can often influence time as most religions have their own
calendars that correspond with each religion s traditional holidays. Rosh Hashanah is the Jewish New
Year, which is made up of many symbolic traditions that each represents a different part of the holiday.
However, the Jewish New Year is unlike any other culture s New Year in the way that it is celebrated
and perceived by people.
Many traditions and rituals make Rosh Hashanah the holiday that it is. In Hebrew, Rosh Hashanah

The Jewish New Year differs greatly from the American New Year, however, they have one major
thing in common. This is that the New Year is a time for new beginnings, which is why both New Year
s include resolutions. However, for Rosh Hashanah the resolutions have more to do with asking for
forgiveness compared to making promises of losing weight, eating healthy, and exercising more. Both
New Year s have a greeting that goes along with the holiday that has the same general meaning for
Rosh Hashanah it is L shanah Tovah meaning a good year . For the American New Year, the common
phrase is Happy New Year . One major difference is the time that both holidays are celebrated at. The
American New Year is always celebrated on December 31st and January 1st. whereas the Jewish New
Year always falls on the same day if going by the Jewish lunar calendar but it will fall on different
days in the Gregorian calendar that the whole world uses. In terms of the actual celebrations of each
New Year, these holidays could not be any more different from one another. The American New Year
is a time of partying, drinking, hanging out with friends, eating food, and just having a good time.
Rosh Hashanah is a much more serious and religious holiday. There are no parties or drinking heavily
as it is a time to spend with family in synagogue praying; reflecting upon oneself, and asking for
forgiveness of sins. These two New Years have the same meaning behind the holiday but choose to

Lord Rama And The Epics Of The Ramayana And Bhagavad Gita
Dharmic traditions have been influenced greatly by the epics of the Ramayana and the Bhagavad Gita.
Both epics involve open dialogue with an avatar of Vishnu and are greatly concerned with the ideals in
fulfilling Dharma. In both epics both Lord Ram and Krishna discuss how to be the ideal person.
However Lord Ram is more concerned with being the perfect son and husband and Krishna focuses on
the dharmic deeds of a warrior and how to fulfill dharma in order to be liberated. The Bhagavad Gita
focuses on a dialogue between Krishna and Prince Arjuna, while the Ramayana is an epic that focuses
on a journey fulfilled by lord Rama making it more of applicable to all castes and people. The
Ramayana focuses more on the need to obey and respect each other and one s rightful duties. These
dharmic beliefs focus on relationships. Lord Ram must obey his father, King Dasaratha, in his
decision to take away his inheritance of the throne and must respect that decision. Although no one
except for the new king, Bharata s, mother wanted him to leave and convinced the King that he must
fulfil his oath he made to her many years ago. Rama strove to be the perfect son thus fulfilling his duty
of obeying his father s wishes. Even as Bharata begged him to take his place as ruler instead, Rama
denied it on the basis that he had to obey his father and follow his every word. As Rama obeys his
father, Sita, Rama s wife, convinces Rama that she shall go with him, thus fulfilling her dharma s

Gun Safety Research Paper
Boy Scouts Gun Safety
Hey, Parents! We are excited to introduce a gun safety course for the Boy Scouts at the Guadalupe
Parkway Sommerville Centers. The duration of the program will last four weeks, with the last week
being live shooting from a gun range. Our purpose in this gun safety course is to provide our Boy
Scouts with knowledge when it comes to firearm safety. We want to teach them how to handle
properly a firearm and know what to do in the presences of a firearm.
The firearm course instructor is our very own Mr. Luis, who is a certified firearm instructor. Below are
the lesson plans for this four week course.
Week 1: Introductory Week: Scouts will learn the different types of firearms. Wood and plastic guns
are going to serve as practice firearms. Mr. Luis will teach the scouts about various guns in our
modern society, which caliber of bullet each firearm possess, and how to properly hold the wooden or
plastic versions of the gun. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Students will have to demonstrate competency in foot placement, hand placement, and display a level
of maturity when handling a firearm. Please note: that the students will still hold the wooden or plastic
versions of the guns and not the real ones, yet.
Week 3: Third Week: Scouts should demonstrate a level of proficiency, maturity, and acuity in
preparation for the gun range, to achieve those three attributes, scouts must pass a gun safety test that
is given by Mr. Luis. Scouts who pass their test will be able to go on to the shooting range and use live
ammunition, those who do not pass their test will not be able to attend the gun range.
Week 4: Fourth Week: Scouts who passed their test will go on to a shooting range and use bullets to

Technology In A Dystopian Society
There are current events occurring in the United States that has given us the feeling as if we are living

on. From having new technology control our lives, from having robots taking over jobs, and hiding
our true identify, the United States has become a place in where many do not desire to live in

In many dystopian novels, technology is viewed as a benefit for a society. Today many people believe
it has benefitted us but it has controlled our lives. People no longer have face to face conversations or

Primo Levi s Survival in Auschwitz
Reading the novel Survival in Auschwitz by author Primo Levi leads one to wonder whether his
survival is attributed to his indefinite will to survive or a very subservient streak of luck. Throughout
the novel, he is time and again spared from the fate that supposedly lies ahead of all inhabitants of the
death camp at Auschwitz. Whether it was falling ill at the most convenient times or coming in contact
with prisoners who had a compassionate, albeit uncommon, disposition, it would seem as though the
Gods were always smiling upon him. Although throughout the novel primo is characterized as a very
willing ands competent individual, one can not say that his personality or his training as a chemist
were the sole factors of his survival. For ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although Levi was never chosen to be a prominenten , this did not matter as his training as a chemist
turned out to be his liberating factor. He was one of three Jewish inmates chosen to work in a
chemistry laboratory in the camp. Again Levi refers to his luck when he writes So it would seem that
fate has arranged that we three suffer neither hunger nor cold this winter (Levi 140). One must say
that to be chosen as one of the three men, out of the 10,000 which comprised the Läger, can only be
attributed to luck. In addition to his envied position in the Läger, his background as a chemist also
proved vital when the prisoners had to fend for themselves after the germans abandoned the camp due
to the encroachment of the Russian army. Since all municipal provisions were deserted as a result of
the hasty departure of the Germans, it was Levi who was able to light the stove using flints stolen
from the laboratory. This in turn enabled them to melt snow for water and cook the potatoes and
cabbage that they were able to salvage. It was also Levi who used an abandoned battery from the lorry
to finally provide light in their room. Furthermore, Levi s luck also appeared to be beneficial in that it
allowed him to make the acquaintance of inmates who appeared to be just as honest and forthcoming
as him. Although Levi s relationships with his comrades were always

Analysis Of Loveliest Of Trees By William Blake
Intense, dark, cold, empty, merciless, those are just mere descriptions of him. Him, the atramentous
shadow, the one who pursues individuals waiting for the perfect time to seize them away. His
presence, even the mentioning of his name, is invariably menacing. He radiates despair to the
individuals he inquires. He oversees age, personality, therefore he does not distinguish. He does not
care. Does he feel lonely? What is his urgency to take individuals with him for the rest of eternity?
This obsidious shadow known as death, roams night and day. He saunters without rest. A. E.
Housman, Edwin Denby, and William Blake each have a different perspective towards death.
Housman depicts death as an impatient being, Denby illustrates it as something that fights against us,
while Blake interprets it through spiritual glasses. The themes in Loveliest of Trees by A. E. Housman,
I had heard it s a fight by Edwin Denby, and The Lamb by William Blake best reveals the author s
purpose about death. Moreover, the overall theme in Loveliest of Trees is that death is an impatient
being who does not give individuals enough time to contemplate on the beauty of life. In the poem,
the narrator compares other types of trees to the cherry tree. In fact, the narrator states that compared
to other trees the cherry tree is the loveliest amongst all. The narrator mentions how at the age of 20
the cherry tree existence became known to him. According to the narrator s calculations, and his

The Hundred Years War And The Bubonic Plague
The fourteenth century was a time of great change in Western Europe. As Europe was moving out of
the medieval era and into the beginnings of what would become the modern era, many transitions in
government, religion, and art were taking place. Feudalism was on the decline, the Church was losing
its hold over the populace, and the literature of the time was beginning to reflect the reality of personal
experiences of all classes and both genders in the everyday world.
The decline of the feudal system was prompted by changes in warfare during the Hundred Years War

Rather than promoting the medieval virtues of chivalry, piety and humility, most literature of the
fourteenth century began to portray individuals more realistically using colorful details bringing the
characters of the story to life. Moving away from trite stereotypes of medieval characters, writers of
the fourteenth century brought their writing alive with diverse characters whose personalities were
vivid (369). Literature also began to include commentary on social inequities such as misogyny and
class distinctions. The first feminist writer, Christine de Pisan, appear during the late fourteenth
century and she became a voice for women condemning male misogyny and praising the many
successes of women (365). Literature was also being written in vernacular rather than Latin. This

Liberals Viewpoints
Liberals believe that everyone deserves a equal opportunity and that everyone should be equal.
Liberals also believe that the government should make sure that no one is in need and they also
emphasize that the government needs to play a big part to solve problems. Conservatives on the other
hand believe that people need to be more reliant on themselves that people need to be more
responsible for themselves, limited government, traditional American values and a strong defense.
One of the things that is dividing the country is the argument about whether the death penalty should

Liberals say that the Second Amendment does not give people the right to keep or bear arms but for a
militia or a national guard. Liberals think that people do not need a gun for protection it is the local
and federal governments job to protect the people through law enforcement agencies and the military
and that more gun control laws are needed to stop gun violence and this also would limit the ability for
criminals to get their hand on a gun and cause more trouble than they have already caused. To sum it
up liberals believe that the more guns there are the more violence there will be. Conservatives believe
the opposite of what liberals believe they believe that the Second Amendment gives people the right to

if someone breaks into your home and the police or any law enforcement agency cannot get there in
time and the person that is being robbed has no way to defend themselves. People say but you can

In 1704, John Campbell started the Boston Newsletter. This became
America s first regularly printed newspaper. This paper paved the way for newspapers to develop all
throughout the colonies. As the colonies attempted to steer away from England, newspapers became
an outlet for anti England propaganda. Along with these papers came articles that was critical of the
government and subsequently cases of libel were developed. One very important case was the Zenger
trial. John Peter Zenger began the New York Weekly Journal in 1733 and his newspaper printed some
articles against the colony and its Governor, William
Cosby. After a speech by Alexander Hamilton, Zenger was found not guilty by the jury and this was a
crucial step toward freedom of the press. After the revolution, newspapers needed something else to
criticize, so journalists criticized people affiliated with the wrong political party. Freedom of the press
was guaranteed in 1787 in the Bill of Rights but there was a threat of war with France. Federalists
needed to squelch the
Republican writings done in newspapers, so they passed the Sedition Act in
1798.
The Sedition Act was the most significant threat to freedom of the press. It stated that any false,

How Did Anne Hathaway Brought Up
7 Anne Hathaway Was Too Demanding For Knocked Up
Anne Hathaway was initially chosen to play the role of Alison in the film Knocked Up alongside Seth
Rogan but dropped out of the movie because she couldn t agree with the director. According to writer
and director Judd Apatow the actress didn t want to allow us to use real footage of a woman giving
birth to create the illusion that she is giving birth . Hathaway said in a later interview that she didn t
believe that it was necessary to the story. Considering that the movie is based on pregnancy and
childbirth this does seem a little strange but then again it is Hollywood.
Hathaway was replaced with Katherine Heigl who we feel was a much better fit for the film anyway.
Hathaway moved on to her back up project Becoming Jane which didn t fare nearly as well with
audiences as Knocked Up.

What Is The Theme Of Her First Ball By Katherine Mansfield
The short story Her first ball is written by Katherine Mansfield, a prominent modernist writer from
New Zealand. The short story was first published in the Weekly Westminster Gazette, then later
included in her third collection of short stories, The Garden Party and Other Stories. Her first ball
centers on young Leila who has moved from the countryside to the city and is attending her first ball
along with her cousins.
Considering Mansfield wrote the short story in the early 1920s, and also bearing in mind that dances
such as the one included in Her first ball were common among the bourgeois youth at this time, it is
fair to assume Mansfield meant for the short story to be set in the then contemporary time.
The plot of the short story unfolds ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Leila moves from up country to the city, meets new people and takes on a new role as a ball
participant. She has likely turned 18 recently and is transitioning into adulthood.
The old man, a sore reminder of Leila s future, attends dances without shame. When Leila remarks
that it is inspiring for him to still be going on, he tells her that she has no chance of lasting as long. (
[...] long before that you ll be sitting up there on the stage, looking on, in your nice black velvet. And
these pretty arms will have turned into little short fat ones, and you ll beat time with such a different
kind of fan a black bony one. . This introduces a fourth theme: gender roles. Though it is possible for
him, as a man, to continue dancing for as long as he would like to, she cannot make that choice.
Her first ball is a short story that deals with coming of age, new beginnings, facades in the upper class,
and gender roles in the 1920s. Katherine Mansfield uses many symbols to get her message through: it
is not necessarily wrong to see the world through the eyes of a child every once in a while, and you
should enjoy the moment even though there will inevitably be an end to it.

Essay about 1776 Book Review
1776, Book Review It was a good year for a revolution, 1776. But it didn t start off quite as well as the
colonists would have liked. When George Washington agreed to take command of the American
forces in 1775, he probably didn t realize what he was truly getting himself into. Washington took
command of an army made up of old men and young boys that had either come from their farms or the
street. The army was short on weapons and gunpowder, lacked uniforms, and was racked by disease
and drunkenness. Washington understood that what lies ahead would be difficult, considering he
would be facing the most powerful country in world. But he probably didn t expect his worst problems

The battle was won, despite insufficient arms and ammunition. It would be one of the few military
victories Washington would experience that year. The news got back to England, and King George III
was angered when he heard the outcome of Boston. He spoke before Parliament and ordered that the
rebels were to be stopped. The British, devastated by the defeat, returned later in the year, this time
with more reinforcements and the help of the Hessians. New York City was now the new battleground.
The battles and conflicts that lie ahead once again reminded Washington of what kind of army he had.
The Battle of New York would soon prove to be a disaster. It was Washington s first command on a
large scale battle. He and his general officers had not only failed, but they looked like fools from the
British point of view. After the battle, troops began to run away in fear. Even Washington s closest
friend, Joseph Reed, began plotting behind his back. Washington suffered another bitter defeat at Fort
Washington, N.Y. The colonists were intimidated, and surrendered Fort Washington. It was a severe
blow to the colonists, 2000 were taken prisoner, 59 killed, 146 cannons lost to the British and Hessians
in a matter of hours. It was a humiliating blow. During one particularly disastrous skirmish with the
British, Washington saw his own troops fleeing from the enemy, and they were refusing to obey
orders. Washington threw his hat on the ground in disgust. And

Estrus Synchronization Protocols Essay example
In the current breeding practices, management of the estrous cycle is a common. Breeders want to
know when their mare is in one phase or the other and also wants to be able to determine when she
will ovulate. Manipulation of the estrous cycle is a practice of breeding management. Manipulation of
estrous involves changing the normal cycle through hormone treatments or other methods. Managing
and manipulating the estrous cycle allows breeders to have control over the phase the mare is
experiencing and the length of time she will be in that phase.
Estrus synchronization is the practice of regulating when one or many mares will be in estrus.

If the stallion only offers scheduled appointments, you may have to schedule in advance and not know
when your mare will be in estrus that far ahead. In all cases, estrus synchronization minimizes the
number of inseminations each mare will require per cycle in order to become pregnant.
A review of the estrous cycle is necessary to understanding the protocols for estrus synchronization.
The estrous cycle of the mare is the period from one ovulation to a subsequent ovulation. Horses are a
seasonally polyestrous animal meaning that non pregnant mares experience recurring estrous cycles.
Further, the equine breeding season is regulated by photoperiod, light exposure. The mares estrous

pituitary gland, ovaries and endometrium.
The estrous cycle during the breeding season is made up of two phases, the estrus, or follicular phase
and the diestrus, or luteal phase. During estrus, a four to seven day long phase, the mare is receptive to
the stallion and can become pregnant following ovulation, which occurs one to two days prior to the
end of estrus. Diestrus is a 14 to 15 day long phase in which the mare is unreceptive to the stallion.
This phase ends with the corpus luteum deteriorating which initiates the next follicular, or estrus
phase.

Out Of School Suspension, By Edgar Ramirez
Edgar Ramirez a famous Venezuela actor once said, I believe in the will. I believe in discipline. I

Cormac Mccarthy The Road Setting
The Road Summer Reading Assignment
The Road is a fiction novel written by Cormac McCarthy. The Road takes place in a post apocalyptic
world, with a man and a boy who are not named. The timetable for this book lasts for a few months,
and is sort of like documentation for the journey of these two individuals. The setting is hard to follow,
and really adds depth to the book as the location and time can kind of be imagined by the reader. The
man often follows his dreams, which play a key role in the plot of this book. The man and the boy are
all that they have in this cruel, post apocalyptic world, and that is what the journey is all about. The
plot of The Road is about this man and this boy who are trapped in a post apocalyptic era when there

The two form a huge and very unique bond as they make their way from one coast to another. The
man believes he has been sent by God to protect the boy, and thus does everything humanly possible
to look after the boy. The boy aspires to be a good person during their journey from coast to coast,
often worrying about the people and things that he sees along the way. The boy is very emotionally
attached to the small things in life, making him very fragile minded during this cruel world.
Ultimately throughout the entire novel, the man is suffering from a cough that grows stronger as he
grows weaker. By the end of the book, the man and the boy have been through hell together. Sadly, the
man dies and this leaves the boy feeling alone in this cold and empty world. At the last moment before
the book comes to an end, the boy is swept up by a new group. This group hopes to inhabit a New
World, and God is their motivation. The book ends in suspense, with many questions unanswered.
Overall, this is a very good. I enjoyed reading this book, and I actually kind of aspire to read it once
more. This book is an eye opener for the potential of post apocalyptic books, and makes me want to
read more. Not only is this book very suspenseful, and overall fun to read, but it also teaches the
reader lessons that can be used within real life. I was very happy with the plot of this book, and all of

Open Adoption Vs Closed Adoption Essay
A closed adoption and an open adoption are very different. Children in a closed adoption do not have
any legal contact with their biological parents. As for an open adoption, children are allowed to know
and or visit their biological parents. Children in closed adoptions should have a right to know they
were adopted and know their family because these children should have a say in how they want to be
raised as well. As for children in an open adoption, they can grow up and still have a close connection
with their birth parents and relatives. Some children in a closed adoption know that they were adopted,
but they have many questions floating around in their heads on why their biological parents do not
want them or even why they gave them up for adoption. With certain open adoptions, children know
their biological parents and know the reason why they were adopted. I do not support closed adoption.
The reason why is because the parents that go through closed adoptions do not think of what their
child wants. Most of these children grow up not knowing why they were given up. These children do
not have a say in this situation, and it is not fair to them. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

World War 2 Movie Analysis
There is a movie made in 2002 called Windtalkers that was about the Navajo code talkers. This was
the first time a lot of people had ever heard of the bravery and sacrifice of the American Indians
during World War 2. Of course this is a Hollywood so liberties are taken for dramatic purposes but it
served its purpose of exposing the masses to the invaluable contribution to the war effort. The
government by this time had, had a long track record of horrible abuse to the American Indians, but
that did not stop them from enlisted and making the same sacrifices as everyone else. Sadly the
treatment of the American Indians would still be the same as far as the government was concerned.

White America thought the war finished integrating the American Indian into normal America.
American Indians also got to see white America up close. They were both attracted and repelled
(Morgan). The thought of a better income, higher standard of living, and higher education were very
attractive to them, but they feared that lessening of tribal influence and the threat of forfeiting the
security of the reservation. Indians did not want equality with whites at the price of losing group
identification. It was a tremendously difficult adjustment; more than for white America, which had
known modem war and mobilization before. But in the process, Native Americans became Indian
Americans, not just American Indians (Morgan). In traditional American nature you will only be

Anne Bradstreet s Here Follows Some Follows Upon The...
An elegy, a poem written in honor of a deceased. It mourns the death of an individual through looking
at the bright side. It can release stress because of all the emotions that could not be held in anymore.
This can be clearly portrayed in Anne Bradstreet s Here Follows Some Verses upon the Burning of
Our House and Thomas Gray s Elegy Written in Country Churchyard. Both of the writers have
feelings of depression. The writers bring up subtle comparisons between the poem and themselves.
The arising themes remain constant through spirituality. In both of the stories, there is an identified
preposition of melancholy, potential, and spirituality.
To start off with the poem Here Follows Some Verses upon the Burning of Our House, Anne
Bradstreet sets up the tone of sadness and says that she was awakened by a noise, a voice screaming
fire and how heartbreaking it was to lose her home and possessions (Elegy 178). Bradstreet describes
how her home looks after the incident. Her and her family have to start all over again. Bradstreet feels
like everything has been taken away from her and will not be able to move on in line. She is having
feelings of melancholy. Consequently, Bradstreet has an epiphany and says, Adieu, adieu, all s vanity
(Elegy 179). This means that she is saying all her possessions are worthless. This is a turning point in
Bradstreet s life that she was gifted with. She now sees how her ambition, potential, and hope can
change her future life. She had been taking

Clinical Signs Of Bvdv Infection
Laboratory diagnosis The clinical signs of BVDV infection are highly variable and there are many
factors that affect severity of infection like viral strain, age of affected animals, immune status,
reproductive stage and mixed infection. Therefore, diagnosis based on history, clinical signs and
postmortem examination should be considered only as preliminary diagnosis. The accurate and
confirmatory diagnosis of BVDV infection depends only on laboratory diagnosis. 1 Virus isolation
BVDV isolation in cell culture, followed by identification, is considered as the most reliable method
for diagnosis. Many different clinical samples are suitable for BVDV isolation during the viremia
stage as nasal discharges, peripheral blood leukocytes, serum, semen, aborted fetuses and feces.
However, presence of maternal antibodies in serum and buffy coat samples from newly born animals
may neutralize the virus and decrease the sensitivity of virus isolation. Virus isolation methods are
labor intensive and may take several weeks. Furthermore, virus isolation cannot differentiate between
PI animals and transiently infected animals. The FBS used as supplement for propagation of cell lines
should be tested for BVDV contamination before usage to avoid false positive results. Dubovi et al.
2013 stated that there are many factors that may affect the success in BVDV isolation and discussed
the misconception that BVDV isolation is the gold standard for diagnosis. Some of those factors are

Macbeth Feminist Play Analysis
Generally, Macbeth is thought of as Shakespeare s most feminist play. With a supposedly powerful
female character and an inversion of gender roles, it is easy to see how this idea came into being.
However, it is totally wrong. Macbeth, written by William Shakespeare, is a play about an ambitious
nobleman who would go to any measure to become king and retain that position after receiving a
prophecy from three witches. At first, he is unwilling to resort to violence to become king but his wife,
Lady Macbeth, manipulates him into doing so. Once the first murder is complete, he has found a thirst
for killing and continues to kill various people until he is eventually killed and the rightful king takes
his place. The claims of this being a feminist play stem from Lady Macbeth s character and her
relationship with Macbeth. Lady Macbeth is violent and evil, while Macbeth is originally too kind,
showing a gender role reversal. Even so, there are many problematic aspects of Macbeth that
completely negate the few progressive components in Shakespeare s writing. Macbeth is a misogynist
play because it promotes strict gender roles, gender non conforming women are demonized and seen
as responsible for men s problems, and by the second half of the play, any innovative gender role
reversals are themselves reversed.
To begin with, Macbeth promotes very strict gender roles, with women and femininity being
associated with fear and weakness, and men and manliness being associated with power

Thomas Hobbes Social Contract Theory Essay
Thomas Hobbes creates a clear idea of the social contract theory in which the social contract is a
collective agreement where everyone in the state of nature comes together and sacrifices all their
liberty in return to security. In return, the State promises to exercise its absolute power to maintain a
state of peace (by punishing deviants, etc.) So are the power and the ability of the state making people
obey to the laws or is there a wider context to this? I am going to look at the different factors to this
argument including a wide range of critiques about Hobbes theory to see whether or not his theory is
convincing reason for constantly obeying the law. Hobbes wrote the Leviathan during the civil war

Hobbes is also eager on the fact that law is depended on power. A law without a credible and powerful
authority behind it is just simply not a law in any meaningful sense. By reading Hobbes, it was
undoubtedly seen that his biggest trepidation was ending up living in a state of nature. For this reason
he beliefs that the best way of avoiding state of nature is by not rebelling and obeying to the law. He
described it the state of nature as no society; and which is worst of all, continual fear, and danger of
violent death; and the life of man, solitary, poore, nasty, brutish, and short . He goes on saying that
anyone s property is the common wealth s property. It belongs to the sovereign state. He says That
every private man has an absolute Propriety in his Goods; such, as excludeth the Right of the
Soveraign. Every man has indeed a Propriety that excludes the Right of every other Subject: And he
has it onely from the Soveraign Power; without the protection whereof, every other man should have

office they have put him into; which is, to defend them both from forraign enemies, and from the
injuries of one another; and consequently there is no longer a Common wealth. He claims that the

Children With Asperger s Syndrome
It isn t easy to imagine seeing the world in an entirely different and strange way, but for people with
Asperger s syndrome, this concept is reality. AS is a high functioning form of autism that affects many
aspects of a person s life and how they view and understand the world. As a developmental disorder, it
disrupts a person s regular growth and maturing processes. (Allman) People with AS think in a
completely different way than those who are neurotypical; they have difficulties understanding social
situations, such as emotional cues and body language, which causes them to be outcast from a society
they don t much understand. Even so, these people can be very intelligent individuals with academic
gifts; though, things may come too naturally for them, and cause them to get bored.
Asperger s syndrome (which may be referred to as Asperger syndrome, Asperger s disorder, or simply
AS) had its firsts definition in 1944 by Hans Asperger, a Viennese child psychologist. He found in four
boys a certain set of behaviorisms he described as autistic psychopathy . These behaviorisms included
a lack of empathy, little ability to form friendships, one sided conversation, intense absorption in a
special interest, and clumsy movements. The kids were called little professors by Asperger because of
the way they can have such detailed conversations about something they enjoy and how they have
such extensive knowledge about the subject. People think that the publication of Asperger s

Social Perspectives on Abortion
Introduction
The abortion question raises a number of issues that form the core of the abortion debate. Opponents
and supporters of abortions have been battling over this particular problem for decades and still cannot
come to an agreement. Being one of the most common and most controversial medical procedures,
abortion tends to affect people on psychological and sociological levels. But while the discussion of
the morality of abortion is an ongoing debate, the social issues surrounding abortion in most cases stay
unnoticed. The social aspect of the issue is centered on the abortion policy. The main question of the
abortion policy is whether the law should permit abortions and, if so under what circumstances. The
other is whether the law should put the life of an unborn child first and legally protect it. The
peculiarity of the abortion policy is that its measures are highly dependent on different public
opinions.
Pro life and pro choice arguments
It is worth mentioning in the first place that the continuing debate over the abortion problem has
always been based on two main opposing views. Nagan (1971) terms these viewpoints as the fetus
oriented view and the female perspective (p. 288). To his mind, defining the status of the fetus as a
human being or only as a potential human being best indicates polarity

The Food Stamp Program And The Supplemental Nutrition...
Formerly known as the Food Stamp Program (FSP), The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program
(SNAP) is the largest federal nutrition assistance program and exists to protect low income Americans
from hunger and its associated consequences by increasing access to food. Approximately 44 million
people received SNAP benefits this year as of August of 2016.1 Due to the fact that low income
Americans tend to have problems with obesity and poor diet2,3, it would make sense that there would
be interest to endorse healthy choices by means of federally nutrition assistance programs.4 However,
there is insufficient evidence to require SNAP participants to spend a certain percentage of their
benefits on healthy foods because food stamp participation may not contribute to poor diet quality,
restrictions may not be effective in changing what food stamp participants purchase, and there is no
solid evidence that exists that Food Stamp Program participation directly leads to obesity.
This policy is not necessary for a variety of reasons. For one, participation in the Food Stamp program
may not necessarily contribute to poor diet quality. A statement released by the USDA claims that food
stamp recipients are equally likely to choose foods with minimal nutritional value as those who do not
receive food stamp benefits4. In a recent evaluation and analysis of many instances of data about the
quality of SNAP participant s diet differences from those with a similar income who are not

Soil erosion is a natural process in which wind and water remove soil. The removal of the soil roughly
occurs at the same rate soil is formed. But accelerated soil erosion, is a far more recent problem. The
result is mankind s unwise actions, such as overgrazing or unsuitable cultivation practices (Collins,
2001). Recent studies link deforestation to the accelerating soil erosion process and to the leaching of
naturally occurring mercury (Mainville, et al., 2006). The acceleration of soil erosion then leads to
land infertility affecting local and worldwide (Pimentel, et al. 1995). Forest fragmentation is another
hazard of deforestation. According to the EPA, the fragmentation process breaks up large parts of
forest into smaller pieces. Continuous fragmentation may accelerate global warming by releasing
carbon stored in trees (Wade, T., 2003) The Ecuador Amazonian native communities are experiencing

bus and walked up the driveway as we talked about what we were going to do that night. With all the
plans ahead of us, we decided to start out the evening by making brownies. While we were waiting for
them to bake, we went on her trampoline, hoping we wouldn t burn them. Thankfully, they ended up
tasting great! Then, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to my mom, she was at the grocery store in the checkout line when my friend s mom called
her. Trying to act calm, my friend s mom said, Umm... Jennah got bit by Mader and I need you or Eric
to come and pick her up! After she was done on the phone, still waiting in line to checkout, she told
me she was whispering to herself Please don t let it be on her face, Please don t let it be on her face.
My dad came to pick me up and took me back home, by this time, my mom was back from the store.
They set me on the counter with the used to be white washcloth, my aching lip, and me crying. I don t
know why we had to stop home but we did. We all got in the car, with me still balling my eyes out. my
mom was silent and my dad was on the phone with the hospital talking to the plastic surgeon. I just
remember having a million questions. Who is he talking to? What are they talking about? Is it really
bad? Am I gonna need surgery? How long is this gonna take?
Considering that my dad is a surgeon, he realized that the bloody wound was in need of immediate
attention. Soon, me and my worried and concerned parents were at the Emergency Room at St. Joseph
s Hospital. They put me in a small, sterile smelling exam room. I think it was here that it all hit me. I
worried that from now on I will always be scared of dogs. I worried that my face would look weird. I
worried about it hurting. I worried about what people at school would think about my face. I

Opinion Today Newsletter Summary
I began to scroll through the emojis on my phone. Yes, there were women s faces, and tiny women s
bodies. But for the women actually engaged in an activity or profession, there were only archetypes:
the flamenco dancer in her red gown, the bride in her flowing veil, the princess in her gold tiara. There
was a set of ballet dancers complete with bunny ears and black leotards, their smiles indicating that,
gosh, they were so grateful to God and everyone, really, for this opportunity to pose for Playboy.
There was a woman getting her hair cut, and another with her arm out, Valley Girl, osmosis ditz, as if
to say, Tenure? What is tenure? That sounds like an injury! Ow i!
Where, I wanted to know, was the fierce professor working her way to tenure?
Where was the lawyer? The accountant? The surgeon? How was there space for both a bento box and
a single fried coconut shrimp, and yet women were restricted to a smattering of tired, beauty centric
roles?
This was not a problem for our male emoji ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When my friend and I met up for drinks, we talked about this disparity, and the smaller one on our
screens. Scrolling through the options, we rejected the dancer and the unicorn and, in lieu of anything
else, settled on a penguin. My friend was, we agreed, a penguin. Not a creature of mythical
imagination, but something real. I d read, I told her, a recent report about several hundred thousand
penguins trapped by a collapsed glacier in Antarctica. Thousands had died, but the ones that survived
did so only through perseverance regularly traveling some 40 miles across barren nothingness to reach
the ocean.
She, and the women like her, we agreed, were creatures that persevered like crazy, and often against
all odds.

How Does Anthropogenic Noise Affect Cetaceans
Introduction As human presence in the oceans is continually revealed to be detrimental to marine life,
one major area of concern is noise pollution in the ocean and its effects on marine mammals. Sound is
vital to marine mammals communication and livelihood, so the disturbance of the sound in their
habitat has varying effects. The impact of anthropogenic noise on marine mammals, specifically
cetaceans, can be seen in various experiments and observations concerning the sounds produced by
shipping, construction, and sonars. All of which reveal potential and consequential behavioral and
physiological effects, which include acoustic masking, change in foraging behavior, and mass
strandings. Species studied include harbor porpoises (Phocoena phocoena), ... Show more content on

It is important that we continue to research known harmful anthropogenic sounds and their effects on
cetaceans to limit further damage, and to research other sources of noise due to humans and their
potential effects to prevent future harm. Through research, it is shown that various noise pollution
caused by humans can have detrimental effects on cetaceans such as harbor porpoises, bottlenose
dolphins, killer whales, and Cuvier s beaked whales. Shipping, windfarm construction, and sonar can
cause temporary or permanent hearing threshold changes, which can result in decreased foraging
ability and communication ability. Shipping has been seen to decrease foraging time and cause
acoustic masking. Sonar can cause death due to strandings and lesions. These all add up to show that,
overall, noise pollution by humans has a serious effect on the quality of life for cetaceans. It is also
important to recognize that absence of a detected reaction does not mean that there is no impact on
these cetaceans. It is possible that noise pollution can cause physiological and psychological responses
without any external symptoms we can detect. It may be important to develop methods to observe
these more subtle reactions to noise pollution that may impact cetacean s way of life. It is important
that humans realize the full extent of their effect on marine life and create measures to prevent more
harm. Noise pollution s effect on cetaceans affect not only these species, but the other marine life they
interact with and the ecosystems of the

Importance Of The Five Pillars Of Islam
There are the Five Pillars of Faith within Islam, all of which partake in an extremely important role in
the lives of worldwide Muslim adherents. They include Shahada (referring to beliefs), Salat (prayer),
Zakat (charity), Sawm (fasting/Ramadan), and Hajj (pilgrimage). The Five Pillars of Islam are all
different acts of worship to show devotion to Allah that transform and develop individual adherents,
and powers the foundation of Islam and its core teachings. Within the sacred texts of Islam, there are
many Surahs (chapters) of the Qur an and extracts from the Hadith that clearly demonstrate the
importance of the Five Pillars of Islam to adherents worldwide and their lives. Shahada is the
declaration of faith for Islam, Salat strengthens faith and reminds Muslims that Allah is above all else,
Zakat maintains the selflessness of Muslims, Sawm develops self control and rid sins, and Hajj serves
as a penance while strengthening the connection of adherents worldwide and Allah.
The First Pillar of Islam, Shahada, is important to Muslim s lives because it is the first step of
becoming a true, devoted adherent of Islam, the declaration of faith. Shahada is the Islamic testimony
that acknowledges the absoluteness and oneness of God (Tawhid) and the role of his messenger
Muhammad. It reminds adherents (of their purpose:) that their day should be spent worshipping only
him (monotheism) and shows Muslim s utter commitment to their religion/faith, demonstrating the
core teachings of

The Importance Of Violence And Video Game Violence
Violent video games makes people violent in real life (according to cnn.com and psysiolicaly.com) .
This is because, I have played violent games for a long time and it doesn t make me more violent than
i have always been. After, People who buy these such games don t always resort to being violent
because we don t have half a million people shooting people around the world. Also, No one would go
around hurting random people for a random reason unless they are mentally crazy or insane or they
have a real reason to do this to the innocent people. Real world violence and video game violence are
two completely different things. This part is correct because, if they were then we would have more
than 70 million people running around making the world into a place of complete chaos and insanity.
The proof is, the majority of people who play these type of video games do not engage themselves
into violence and or acts of crime. This is true because, people have sold over 70 million copies of
GTA V and if this was true than we would have more than 70 million people committing a crime. If
this would be true than we would have a world full of crime and it would be insanity and chaos all
over the world even in the best of places. Overall no games have had effect on real world problems.
First, The current conditions easily set up children to begin thinking like soldiers and even justify
killing. After this, It doesn t matter how many digital avatars you ve slaughtered in video games

Polly Monologue
Ben Wally Already I know we are going to have so much fun (and drama) with these two. I kind of
agree with as kids being closer and sort of falling apart as they grew older. To be completely honest
they are both knuckle heads who need to get over themselves, but of course thats going to be a long
way down the road. But yes, no matter what they are certainly going to act like brothers, I actually
made Wallace purposly older by a year just so I could see him play that I m older than you card. I
could actually see Wallace partially trying to prove himself to Bennett because to him Bennett is the
pinnicale of Jazz sucess in his eyes at the moment as he hasn t been able to be close to anyone as close
to it as him. I could see him being even partially angry seeing Bennett get to cocky since he had it all
for a while and ruined it through his arogance, so like Wallace has ... Show more content on

Thank you for getting all the way down her Chelsy. Polly is adorable first off and Wally would have
no idea how he ended up befriending her. I think we could likely have some hate and love in their
relationship, a nice balance of the two. I could totally see them meeting on the streets and connecting
over their long nights of busking, maybe laughing about their experince with tourists. Being both from
immigrant families, maybe they could even connect over that despite two different cultures. Maybe
they end up spicing the busking street up by combining the sound of trumpet and violin, adding
something new to the streets of jazz. They might not completely relate on the level of discrimination
but they could ceartainly talk about injustices over a couple of drinks. They both done lots of hard
work to get where they are and maybe Wally pessimistically talks about how hard work never gets
him anywhere. I think what also might be funny is if they were busking near the same area and got
mad at each for being in each others busking territory , in fact maybe thats how they

Capsim Project Paper
Mkt 350 In a classroom far, far away, four people were thrust into a group. Their goal was to succeed
in the game known as Capsim. They called themselves Digby 2. This is the real life story of their
friendship, challenges, and accomplishments as they worked their way to the top of the game. On a
more serious note, our group took Capsim very seriously. In the beginning we were all confused as to
how the game worked and where to begin. We looked at the various tutorials and the booklet to try
and make some sense of it. Once we had some understanding, we tried to develop our strategy. In the
first few rounds we understood it was important to have our company funded through stocks and long
term debt. We issued stock the first ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Other than this, we didn t really have any problems with the game or with our group members. Along
with capacity, we also made it a focus to limit the amount of overtime and second shift workers. This
kept our costs down and our profit margin wider. We paid attention to our inventory on hand and made
sure to not schedule more production than was needed. Towards the later rounds, we really seemed to
grasp the idea of the game, which can be seen in our large increase in profitability. In the Finance
portion, we borrowed money in the first five weeks to pay off our current debt. As the game got into
the later rounds we began paying off our current and long term debt because our profits were
increasing at a higher rate. Overall, we believe that our group had a decent understanding of the
concepts as we finished with high market share and profits. Our group took time to meet every week
to discuss our strategy for Capsim. We met on Mondays, usually for an hour or so to discuss the task
at hand. We also met on Wednesdays if there was doubt in our decisions from Monday or if one of our
group members could not make it. Our group chose to discuss the game as a whole, rather than
sectioning it up to make sure that everyone was on the same page. We didn t have any conflicts in our
decisions and actually got along very well. Overall as a group we thought Capsim had its advantages
and disadvantages. We did learn a lot about the

Gender Based Violence Against Women
GENDER BASED VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN: A CLOSER LOOK AT INDIA S RAPE
PROBLEM
Background
When the sex of a girl or a woman drives the infliction of violence towards them, it is regarded as a
form of gender based violence (Heise et al., 2002). Violence against women, regardless of the form,
can occur in various stages of the woman s life (Murthy and Smith, 2010), and refers not only to
physical and sexual acts of violence, but also encompasses verbal abuse, emotional torture, economic
deprivation, and social disregard (Kapoor and Dhingra, 2013).
An official report by the World Health Organization estimates that globally, 1 in 3 women are affected
by physical and/or sexual violence by a partner and sexual violence by a non partner, and therefore
deeming the issue as a global pandemic that require attention of all stakeholders. Regionally, violence
against women in South East Asia is highest with a 37.7% prevalent rate, a slightly higher number
compared to the Eastern Mediterranean (37%) and African (36.6%) region (World Health
Organization, 2013).
Out of all forms of violence against women, rape is one of the most common and is also one the most
harshest. Rape is traditionally defined as any forced sexual intercourse without one s consent.
However, it has been extended now to other forms of contact involving sexual organs that is against
one s will (Ellis, 1991). Because a majority of rape cases involve a male perpetrator and a female
victim, it is considered a gender based

Compare And Contrast Blackboard Jungle And Rebel Without A...
Blackboard Jungle is about the challenges a new teacher, named Richard Dadier, faces in the midst of
an inner city all boys school. Mr. Dadier faces violence and anti social issues from his stubborn
students. Throughout the movie he tries to step outside of the normal school disciplinary actions,
which are not evident, and take action. In return, the students lash out. This starts to effect his home
life. Yet, in the end the students see Mr. Dadiers dedication, and even after a very eventful fight, they
resign to his authority.
Rebel without a Cause is about four teenagers: Jim Stark, Judy, John Crawford and Buzz. Jim Stark is
a teen facing issues with his parents being too lenient on him, constantly adapting to his acting out.
Jude is a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Both movies have adults who influence these teens, in Blackboard Jungle the adult is Mr. Dadier and
in Rebel without A Cause it is the juvenile division counselor named Ray Frarrek. Both movies
involve extreme violence and aggression between groups and cliques against one another.
The movies are different because Rebel without A Cause has a focus on family orientation with the
teens, whereas Blackboard Jungle does not. Rebel without A Cause is based upon the premise of
violence between family/groups, whereas Blackboard Jungle focuses on racial profiling. Blackboard
Jungle is told from the perspective of an adult verse Rebel without A Cause which is told directly from
the viewpoint of multiple teens.
Both movies have a strong focus on Rock and Roll. Rock and Roll was an important genre in the
1950s. Rock and Roll was thought to be the root of sexuality and aggression from teens at this time
(Altschuler, Glenn 2004). This is exactly how the teens acted in both movies, with anger and without a
care for consequence in many situations. The students showed anxiety, frustration, anger and grief; all
complemented by the music choices within the

Anniquois Creation Story
The creation stories are very fascinating to learn about. There are so many different creation stories
that explain how man and earth are made. People have different view point of how the earth was
created. So let me give some examples, the Iroquois creation story tells of a father god and a mother
god that are caretaker They lived high above the endless sea next to a tree of light. Then one day the
winds blew away the tree and the mother caretaker fell into the endless ocean. She landed on a giant
sea turtle. Creatures of the ocean began to help her create the earth in addition, she made the land on
top of the turtle. She also gave birth to mother earth and this started the creation of man from mother
earth s two sons. One created all the

How Is Chris Gardner Untrue In The Pursuit Of Happyness The movie, The Pursuit of Happyness, produced by Lassiter, Blumenthal, Tisch, Black, and Smith, is loosely based on the true story of the struggle filled life of Chris Gardner and his rise from near bankruptcy to becoming one of the greatest and richest stockbrokers in the San Francisco area, but contains many details that are completely untrue, most importantly the idea that he sold bone density scanners for a living. • 3. The First Experiments Of Water Treatment A plumber is an adventurer who traces leaky pipes to their source (Arthur Baer). We have all heard the saying, The plumber protects the health of the nation , but what does that really mean? Plumbing has been around since 6500 BC, maybe even longer. Ancient water wells were found in the Jezreel Valley, which historians date to be thousands of years old. This was one of the first signs of plumbing in the ancient world. The Ancient Greek civilizations evolved plumbing, being the first ones to use underground clay pipes for water distribution and sanitation. They were also one of the first ones to create and use flush toilets. The 54Roman Empire used indoor plumbing to get water to individuals inside buildings and homes. Plumbing is responsible for bringing water to people, because people cannot survive without water. as we got into the modern age, plumbing started to evolve. The first experiments of water treatment were happening in the early modern age. This would enable the supply of clean, potable water to everyone. Plumbers are now responsible for the maintenance and sanitation of all water supply systems and treatment plants. Plumbing is one of the most important job in the world because plumbers are responsible for providing clean healthy water needed to live, plumbers are responsible for providing water efficiency needed to avoid the serious world water shortage and plumbers also help provide a safe non polluted environment. Such descriptions refer to a central character in Sir Gawain and the Green Knight they depict the appearance of Bercilak as the Green Knight. The use of green is a reflection of Garden of Eden imagery in the poem that portrays the Green Knight as a tempter, a serpent, in the garden, Arthur s court. In Genesis account of Eden, Adam and Eve live in a perfect, pure garden until the evil, green serpent successfully tempts them. When the serpent tells Eve that consuming fruit from the forbidden tree the one God warned them not to eat from will result in the same knowledge God holds, Eve convinces Adam to eat the apple. During this feast, the knights and their guests eat lavishly and drink in excess they have all the meat and mirth that one could devise (45) and celebrate In peerless pleasures . . . (50). The feast depicts a worldly paradise with knights who act as they desire, as Adam and Eve were allowed to in Genesis. However, Gawain s garden in not without sin. The existence of sin is evident in Sir Gawain and the Green Knight. The sin in Gawain s garden results from chivalry. The code of knighthood Gawain and other knights follow includes courage and loyalty to one s lord. This courage and loyalty carries with it a sense of pride for the knights, pride that causes them to sin. Thus, Gawain fails to follow a life of purity, for as he follows the code of knighthood, he participates in Christian sin murder, drunkenness, pride. For instance, when the Green Knight gives an offer to Arthur s court to play the beheading game, he initially receives no volunteers. However, as Arthur attempts to participate, Gawain steps up and takes his place, for it is his role to be loyal and fight for his lord. This is evident when he states, My body, but for your [Arthur] blood, is barren of worth; / And for that this folly befits not a king, / And tis that I have asked it, it ought to be mine ( 357 359). This, then, leads him to sin, to chop off another man s head. Sin is evident even before the Green Knight s entrance the knights succumb to physical pleasures during the ... • 5. What Does Rosh Hashanah Mean In The Jewish New Year Every culture has a different way of keeping time, yet each culture signifies the New Year as a time for fresh starts. Every New Year falls at a different time depending on the way that each culture keeps time and organizes their calendars. Religions can often influence time as most religions have their own calendars that correspond with each religion s traditional holidays. Rosh Hashanah is the Jewish New Year, which is made up of many symbolic traditions that each represents a different part of the holiday. However, the Jewish New Year is unlike any other culture s New Year in the way that it is celebrated and perceived by people. Many traditions and rituals make Rosh Hashanah the holiday that it is. This is that the New Year is a time for new beginnings, which is why both New Year s include resolutions. However, for Rosh Hashanah the resolutions have more to do with asking for forgiveness compared to making promises of losing weight, eating healthy, and exercising more. Both New Year s have a greeting that goes along with the holiday that has the same general meaning for Rosh Hashanah it is L shanah Tovah meaning a good year . For the American New Year, the common phrase is Happy New Year . One major difference is the time that both holidays are celebrated at. The American New Year is always celebrated on December 31st and January 1st. whereas the Jewish New Year always falls on the same day if going by the Jewish lunar calendar but it will fall on different days in the Gregorian calendar that the whole world uses. In terms of the actual celebrations of each New Year, these holidays could not be any more different from one another. The American New Year is a time of partying, drinking, hanging out with friends, eating food, and just having a good time. Rosh Hashanah is a much more serious and religious holiday. There are no parties or drinking heavily as it is a time to spend with family in synagogue praying; reflecting upon oneself, and asking for forgiveness of sins. • 6. Lord Rama And The Epics Of The Ramayana And Bhagavad Gita Dharmic traditions have been influenced greatly by the epics of the Ramayana and the Bhagavad Gita. Both epics involve open dialogue with an avatar of Vishnu and are greatly concerned with the ideals in fulfilling Dharma. In both epics both Lord Ram and Krishna discuss how to be the ideal person. However Lord Ram is more concerned with being the perfect son and husband and Krishna focuses on the dharmic deeds of a warrior and how to fulfill dharma in order to be liberated. The Bhagavad Gita focuses on a dialogue between Krishna and Prince Arjuna, while the Ramayana is an epic that focuses on a journey fulfilled by lord Rama making it more of applicable to all castes and people. The Ramayana focuses more on the need to obey and respect each other and one s rightful duties. These dharmic beliefs focus on relationships. Lord Ram must obey his father, King Dasaratha, in his decision to take away his inheritance of the throne and must respect that decision. Although no one except for the new king, Bharata s, mother wanted him to leave and convinced the King that he must fulfil his oath he made to her many years ago. Rama strove to be the perfect son thus fulfilling his duty of obeying his father s wishes. Even as Bharata begged him to take his place as ruler instead, Rama denied it on the basis that he had to obey his father and follow his every word. • 10. Primo Levi s Survival in Auschwitz Reading the novel Survival in Auschwitz by author Primo Levi leads one to wonder whether his survival is attributed to his indefinite will to survive or a very subservient streak of luck. Throughout the novel, he is time and again spared from the fate that supposedly lies ahead of all inhabitants of the death camp at Auschwitz. Whether it was falling ill at the most convenient times or coming in contact with prisoners who had a compassionate, albeit uncommon, disposition, it would seem as though the Gods were always smiling upon him. He was one of three Jewish inmates chosen to work in a chemistry laboratory in the camp. One must say that to be chosen as one of the three men, out of the 10,000 which comprised the Läger, can only be attributed to luck. In addition to his envied position in the Läger, his background as a chemist also proved vital when the prisoners had to fend for themselves after the germans abandoned the camp due to the encroachment of the Russian army. Since all municipal provisions were deserted as a result of the hasty departure of the Germans, it was Levi who was able to light the stove using flints stolen from the laboratory. This in turn enabled them to melt snow for water and cook the potatoes and cabbage that they were able to salvage. It was also Levi who used an abandoned battery from the lorry to finally provide light in their room. • 11. Analysis Of Loveliest Of Trees By William Blake Intense, dark, cold, empty, merciless, those are just mere descriptions of him. Him, the atramentous shadow, the one who pursues individuals waiting for the perfect time to seize them away. His presence, even the mentioning of his name, is invariably menacing. He radiates despair to the individuals he inquires. He oversees age, personality, therefore he does not distinguish. He does not care. Does he feel lonely? What is his urgency to take individuals with him for the rest of eternity? This obsidious shadow known as death, roams night and day. He saunters without rest. A. E. Housman, Edwin Denby, and William Blake each have a different perspective towards death. Housman depicts death as an impatient being, Denby illustrates it as something that fights against us, while Blake interprets it through spiritual glasses. The themes in Loveliest of Trees by A. E. Housman, I had heard it s a fight by Edwin Denby, and The Lamb by William Blake best reveals the author s purpose about death. Moreover, the overall theme in Loveliest of Trees is that death is an impatient being who does not give individuals enough time to contemplate on the beauty of life. In the poem, the narrator compares other types of trees to the cherry tree. In fact, the narrator states that compared to other trees the cherry tree is the loveliest amongst all. The narrator mentions how at the age of 20 the cherry tree existence became known to him. According to the narrator s calculations, and his ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

As the colonies attempted to steer away from England, newspapers became an outlet for anti England propaganda. Along with these papers came articles that was critical of the government and subsequently cases of libel were developed. One very important case was the Zenger trial. John Peter Zenger began the New York Weekly Journal in 1733 and his newspaper printed some articles against the colony and its Governor, William Cosby. After a speech by Alexander Hamilton, Zenger was found not guilty by the jury and this was a crucial step toward freedom of the press. After the revolution, newspapers needed something else to criticize, so journalists criticized people affiliated with the wrong political party. Freedom of the press was guaranteed in 1787 in the Bill of Rights but there was a threat of war with France. The short story was first published in the Weekly Westminster Gazette, then later included in her third collection of short stories, The Garden Party and Other Stories. Her first ball centers on young Leila who has moved from the countryside to the city and is attending her first ball along with her cousins. Considering Mansfield wrote the short story in the early 1920s, and also bearing in mind that dances such as the one included in Her first ball were common among the bourgeois youth at this time, it is fair to assume Mansfield meant for the short story to be set in the then contemporary time. Over a period of three years towards the end of the nineteenth century a number of prostitutes were murdered under different circumstances – the murder of prostitutes was not an especially unique occurrence during those times but several of the murders drew particular attention on account of the savagery with which the victim s bodies were mutilated. Within the Whitechapel Murders was a cluster of murders that demonstrated sufficient similarities as to suggest that they were committed by the same person. When George Washington agreed to take command of the American forces in 1775, he probably didn t realize what he was truly getting himself into. Washington took command of an army made up of old men and young boys that had either come from their farms or the street. The army was short on weapons and gunpowder, lacked uniforms, and was racked by disease and drunkenness. Washington understood that what lies ahead would be difficult, considering he would be facing the most powerful country in world. The battle was won, despite insufficient arms and ammunition. It would be one of the few military victories Washington would experience that year. The news got back to England, and King George III was angered when he heard the outcome of Boston. He spoke before Parliament and ordered that the rebels were to be stopped. The British, devastated by the defeat, returned later in the year, this time with more reinforcements and the help of the Hessians. New York City was now the new battleground. The battles and conflicts that lie ahead once again reminded Washington of what kind of army he had. The Battle of New York would soon prove to be a disaster. It was Washington s first command on a large scale battle. He and his general officers had not only failed, but they looked like fools from the British point of view. After the battle, troops began to run away in fear. Even Washington s closest friend, Joseph Reed, began plotting behind his back. Washington suffered another bitter defeat at Fort Washington, N.Y. The colonists were intimidated, and surrendered Fort Washington. It was a severe blow to the colonists, 2000 were taken prisoner, 59 killed, 146 cannons lost to the British and Hessians in a matter of hours. It was a humiliating blow. During one particularly disastrous skirmish with the British, Washington saw his own troops fleeing from the enemy, and they were refusing to obey orders. A review of the estrous cycle is necessary to understanding the protocols for estrus synchronization. The estrous cycle of the mare is the period from one ovulation to a subsequent ovulation. Horses are a seasonally polyestrous animal meaning that non pregnant mares experience recurring estrous cycles. Further, the equine breeding season is regulated by photoperiod, light exposure. The mares estrous cycle is 21 to 22 days in length and involves hormones produced by the pineal gland, hypothalamus, pituitary gland, ovaries and endometrium. The estrous cycle during the breeding season is made up of two phases, the estrus, or follicular phase and the diestrus, or luteal phase. During estrus, a four to seven day long phase, the mare is receptive to the stallion and can become pregnant following ovulation, which occurs one to two days prior to the end of estrus. Diestrus is a 14 to 15 day long phase in which the mare is unreceptive to the stallion. This phase ends with the corpus luteum deteriorating which initiates the next follicular, or estrus phase. It can release stress because of all the emotions that could not be held in anymore. This can be clearly portrayed in Anne Bradstreet s Here Follows Some Verses upon the Burning of Our House and Thomas Gray s Elegy Written in Country Churchyard. Both of the writers have feelings of depression. The writers bring up subtle comparisons between the poem and themselves. The arising themes remain constant through spirituality. In both of the stories, there is an identified preposition of melancholy, potential, and spirituality. To start off with the poem Here Follows Some Verses upon the Burning of Our House, Anne Bradstreet sets up the tone of sadness and says that she was awakened by a noise, a voice screaming fire and how heartbreaking it was to lose her home and possessions (Elegy 178). Bradstreet describes how her home looks after the incident. Her and her family have to start all over again. Bradstreet feels like everything has been taken away from her and will not be able to move on in line. She is having feelings of melancholy. Consequently, Bradstreet has an epiphany and says, Adieu, adieu, all s vanity (Elegy 179). This means that she is saying all her possessions are worthless. Clinical Signs Of Bvdv Infection Laboratory diagnosis The clinical signs of BVDV infection are highly variable and there are many factors that affect severity of infection like viral strain, age of affected animals, immune status, reproductive stage and mixed infection. Therefore, diagnosis based on history, clinical signs and postmortem examination should be considered only as preliminary diagnosis. The accurate and confirmatory diagnosis of BVDV infection depends only on laboratory diagnosis. 1 Virus isolation BVDV isolation in cell culture, followed by identification, is considered as the most reliable method for diagnosis. Many different clinical samples are suitable for BVDV isolation during the viremia stage as nasal discharges, peripheral blood leukocytes, serum, semen, aborted fetuses and feces. However, presence of maternal antibodies in serum and buffy coat samples from newly born animals may neutralize the virus and decrease the sensitivity of virus isolation. Virus isolation methods are labor intensive and may take several weeks. Furthermore, virus isolation cannot differentiate between PI animals and transiently infected animals. The FBS used as supplement for propagation of cell lines should be tested for BVDV contamination before usage to avoid false positive results. • 30. Macbeth Feminist Play Analysis Generally, Macbeth is thought of as Shakespeare s most feminist play. With a supposedly powerful female character and an inversion of gender roles, it is easy to see how this idea came into being. However, it is totally wrong. Macbeth, written by William Shakespeare, is a play about an ambitious nobleman who would go to any measure to become king and retain that position after receiving a prophecy from three witches. At first, he is unwilling to resort to violence to become king but his wife, Lady Macbeth, manipulates him into doing so. Once the first murder is complete, he has found a thirst for killing and continues to kill various people until he is eventually killed and the rightful king takes his place. The claims of this being a feminist play stem from Lady Macbeth s character and her relationship with Macbeth. Lady Macbeth is violent and evil, while Macbeth is originally too kind, showing a gender role reversal. Even so, there are many problematic aspects of Macbeth that completely negate the few progressive components in Shakespeare s writing. Macbeth is a misogynist play because it promotes strict gender roles, gender non conforming women are demonized and seen as responsible for men s problems, and by the second half of the play, any innovative gender role reversals are themselves reversed. As a developmental disorder, it disrupts a person s regular growth and maturing processes. Social Perspectives On Abortion And Abortion Social Perspectives on Abortion Angelica Haro California State University Fullerton Sociology 308, Fall 2015 Social Perspectives on Abortion Introduction The abortion question raises a number of issues that form the core of the abortion debate. Opponents and supporters of abortions have been battling over this particular problem for decades and still cannot come to an agreement. Being one of the most common and most controversial medical procedures, abortion tends to affect people on psychological and sociological levels. But while the discussion of the morality of abortion is an ongoing debate, the social issues surrounding abortion in most cases stay unnoticed. The social aspect of the issue is centered on the abortion policy. The main question of the abortion policy is whether the law should permit abortions and, if so under what circumstances. The other is whether the law should put the life of an unborn child first and legally protect it. The peculiarity of the abortion policy is that its measures are highly dependent on different public opinions. Pro life and pro choice arguments It is worth mentioning in the first place that the continuing debate over the abortion problem has always been based on two main opposing views. Approximately 44 million people received SNAP benefits this year as of August of 2016.1 Due to the fact that low income Americans tend to have problems with obesity and poor diet2,3, it would make sense that there would be interest to endorse healthy choices by means of federally nutrition assistance programs.4 However, there is insufficient evidence to require SNAP participants to spend a certain percentage of their benefits on healthy foods because food stamp participation may not contribute to poor diet quality, restrictions may not be effective in changing what food stamp participants purchase, and there is no solid evidence that exists that Food Stamp Program participation directly leads to obesity. This policy is not necessary for a variety of reasons. For one, participation in the Food Stamp program may not necessarily contribute to poor diet quality. The Deforestation of the Ecuadorian Amazon Essay The Amazon is a vast region spanning across Brazil, Bolivia, Peru, Ecuador, Colombia, Venezuela, Guyana, Suriname and French Guiana (Walker, Cesareo 2014). Possessing the most developed rainforest of anywhere in the world, over two thirds of all the fresh water and 20% of the earth s oxygen are produced in the Amazons (wcupa.edu). Despite the vital role of the Amazons, the rapid deforestation continues to affect the ecosystem. (Mainville, et al, 2006). The main causes of deforestation include unsustainable logging, agriculture, invasive species, fire, fuel wood gathering, and livestock grazing. The widespread of this issue has become an important consideration in global policy processes that deal with biodiversity, climate change, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Soil erosion is a natural process in which wind and water remove soil. The removal of the soil roughly occurs at the same rate soil is formed. But accelerated soil erosion, is a far more recent problem. The result is mankind s unwise actions, such as overgrazing or unsuitable cultivation practices (Collins, 2001). Recent studies link deforestation to the accelerating soil erosion process and to the leaching of naturally occurring mercury (Mainville, et al., 2006). The acceleration of soil erosion then leads to land infertility affecting local and worldwide (Pimentel, et al. 1995). Forest fragmentation is another hazard of deforestation. According to the EPA, the fragmentation process breaks up large parts of forest into smaller pieces. Continuous fragmentation may accelerate global warming by releasing carbon stored in trees (Wade, T., 2003) The Ecuador Amazonian native communities are experiencing the environmental impacts in their flora and fauna as well as risks to their health. Infectious disease dynamics are being altered in animals and humans, strongly affecting cross species infection rates (Pongsiri, et al 2009). Biodiversity loss may increase species into atypical ecological interactions, which facilitate transmission. Diseases such as Lyme disease, Malaria, and Yellow Fever Possibly can be associated with deforestation (Wilcox Ellis, 2006). In the Napo ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 41. Don t Get Me Wrong Don t get me wrong, I love dogs, and never plan to live without one. But isn t it weird how you can have so many amazing experiences with dogs and only one traumatic event, and yet the bad one is the one that stands out? It was an ordinary fall day, October 24th, 2012. I was thrilled to spend the night at my friend s house. After school, we got onto the bus for the 40 minute drive. Once the bus ride was over, we got off the bus and walked up the driveway as we talked about what we were going to do that night. With all the plans ahead of us, we decided to start out the evening by making brownies. While we were waiting for them to bake, we went on her trampoline, hoping we wouldn t burn them. After she was done on the phone, still waiting in line to checkout, she told me she was whispering to herself Please don t let it be on her face, Please don t let it be on her face. My dad came to pick me up and took me back home, by this time, my mom was back from the store. They set me on the counter with the used to be white washcloth, my aching lip, and me crying. I don t know why we had to stop home but we did. We all got in the car, with me still balling my eyes out. my mom was silent and my dad was on the phone with the hospital talking to the plastic surgeon. I just remember having a million questions. Who is he talking to? What are they talking about? Is it really bad? Am I gonna need surgery? How long is this gonna take? Considering that my dad is a surgeon, he realized that the bloody wound was in need of immediate attention. Soon, me and my worried and concerned parents were at the Emergency Room at St. Joseph s Hospital. They put me in a small, sterile smelling exam room. I think it was here that it all hit me. I worried that from now on I will always be scared of dogs. I worried that my face would look weird. I worried about it hurting. I worried about what people at school would think about my face. I ... • 42. Opinion Today Newsletter Summary I began to scroll through the emojis on my phone. Yes, there were women s faces, and tiny women s bodies. But for the women actually engaged in an activity or profession, there were only archetypes: the flamenco dancer in her red gown, the bride in her flowing veil, the princess in her gold tiara. There was a set of ballet dancers complete with bunny ears and black leotards, their smiles indicating that, gosh, they were so grateful to God and everyone, really, for this opportunity to pose for Playboy. There was a woman getting her hair cut, and another with her arm out, Valley Girl, osmosis ditz, as if to say, Tenure? What is tenure? That sounds like an injury! Ow i! Where, I wanted to know, was the fierce professor working her way to tenure? Where was the lawyer? The accountant? The surgeon? How was there space for both a bento box and a single fried coconut shrimp, and yet women were restricted to a smattering of tired, beauty centric roles? This was not a problem for our male emoji ... Scrolling through the options, we rejected the dancer and the unicorn and, in lieu of anything else, settled on a penguin. My friend was, we agreed, a penguin. Not a creature of mythical imagination, but something real. I d read, I told her, a recent report about several hundred thousand penguins trapped by a collapsed glacier in Antarctica. Thousands had died, but the ones that survived did so only through perseverance regularly traveling some 40 miles across barren nothingness to reach the ocean. She, and the women like her, we agreed, were creatures that persevered like crazy, and often against all odds. CONTINUE READING THE MAIN STORY 67 ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 43. How Does Anthropogenic Noise Affect Cetaceans Introduction As human presence in the oceans is continually revealed to be detrimental to marine life, one major area of concern is noise pollution in the ocean and its effects on marine mammals. Sound is vital to marine mammals communication and livelihood, so the disturbance of the sound in their habitat has varying effects. The impact of anthropogenic noise on marine mammals, specifically cetaceans, can be seen in various experiments and observations concerning the sounds produced by shipping, construction, and sonars. All of which reveal potential and consequential behavioral and physiological effects, which include acoustic masking, change in foraging behavior, and mass strandings. Species studied include harbor porpoises (Phocoena phocoena), ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is important that we continue to research known harmful anthropogenic sounds and their effects on cetaceans to limit further damage, and to research other sources of noise due to humans and their potential effects to prevent future harm. Through research, it is shown that various noise pollution caused by humans can have detrimental effects on cetaceans such as harbor porpoises, bottlenose dolphins, killer whales, and Cuvier s beaked whales. Shipping, windfarm construction, and sonar can cause temporary or permanent hearing threshold changes, which can result in decreased foraging ability and communication ability. Shipping has been seen to decrease foraging time and cause acoustic masking. Sonar can cause death due to strandings and lesions. These all add up to show that, overall, noise pollution by humans has a serious effect on the quality of life for cetaceans. It is also important to recognize that absence of a detected reaction does not mean that there is no impact on these cetaceans. It is possible that noise pollution can cause physiological and psychological responses without any external symptoms we can detect. It may be important to develop methods to observe these more subtle reactions to noise pollution that may impact cetacean s way of life. It is important that humans realize the full extent of their effect on marine life and create measures to prevent more harm. Noise pollution s effect on cetaceans affect not only these species, but the other marine life they interact with and the ecosystems of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This is because, I have played violent games for a long time and it doesn t make me more violent than i have always been. After, People who buy these such games don t always resort to being violent because we don t have half a million people shooting people around the world. Also, No one would go around hurting random people for a random reason unless they are mentally crazy or insane or they have a real reason to do this to the innocent people. Real world violence and video game violence are two completely different things. This part is correct because, if they were then we would have more than 70 million people running around making the world into a place of complete chaos and insanity. The proof is, the majority of people who play these type of video games do not engage themselves into violence and or acts of crime. This is true because, people have sold over 70 million copies of GTA V and if this was true than we would have more than 70 million people committing a crime. If this would be true than we would have a world full of crime and it would be insanity and chaos all over the world even in the best of places. But yes, no matter what they are certainly going to act like brothers, I actually made Wallace purposly older by a year just so I could see him play that I m older than you card. I could actually see Wallace partially trying to prove himself to Bennett because to him Bennett is the pinnicale of Jazz sucess in his eyes at the moment as he hasn t been able to be close to anyone as close to it as him. Being both from immigrant families, maybe they could even connect over that despite two different cultures. Maybe they end up spicing the busking street up by combining the sound of trumpet and violin, adding something new to the streets of jazz. They might not completely relate on the level of discrimination but they could ceartainly talk about injustices over a couple of drinks. They both done lots of hard work to get where they are and maybe Wally pessimistically talks about how hard work never gets him anywhere. This is the real life story of their friendship, challenges, and accomplishments as they worked their way to the top of the game. On a more serious note, our group took Capsim very seriously. In the beginning we were all confused as to how the game worked and where to begin. We looked at the various tutorials and the booklet to try and make some sense of it. Once we had some understanding, we tried to develop our strategy. In the first few rounds we understood it was important to have our company funded through stocks and long term debt. Along with capacity, we also made it a focus to limit the amount of overtime and second shift workers. This kept our costs down and our profit margin wider. We paid attention to our inventory on hand and made sure to not schedule more production than was needed. Towards the later rounds, we really seemed to grasp the idea of the game, which can be seen in our large increase in profitability. In the Finance portion, we borrowed money in the first five weeks to pay off our current debt. As the game got into the later rounds we began paying off our current and long term debt because our profits were increasing at a higher rate. Overall, we believe that our group had a decent understanding of the concepts as we finished with high market share and profits. Our group took time to meet every week to discuss our strategy for Capsim. We met on Mondays, usually for an hour or so to discuss the task at hand. We also met on Wednesdays if there was doubt in our decisions from Monday or if one of our group members could not make it. Our group chose to discuss the game as a whole, rather than sectioning it up to make sure that everyone was on the same page. We didn t have any conflicts in our decisions and actually got along very well. Overall as a group we thought Capsim had its advantages and disadvantages. We did learn a lot about the ... Gender Based Violence Against Women GENDER BASED VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN: A CLOSER LOOK AT INDIA S RAPE PROBLEM Background When the sex of a girl or a woman drives the infliction of violence towards them, it is regarded as a form of gender based violence (Heise et al., 2002). Violence against women, regardless of the form, can occur in various stages of the woman s life (Murthy and Smith, 2010), and refers not only to physical and sexual acts of violence, but also encompasses verbal abuse, emotional torture, economic deprivation, and social disregard (Kapoor and Dhingra, 2013). An official report by the World Health Organization estimates that globally, 1 in 3 women are affected by physical and/or sexual violence by a partner and sexual violence by a non partner, and therefore deeming the issue as a global pandemic that require attention of all stakeholders. Regionally, violence against women in South East Asia is highest with a 37.7% prevalent rate, a slightly higher number compared to the Eastern Mediterranean (37%) and African (36.6%) region (World Health Organization, 2013). Out of all forms of violence against women, rape is one of the most common and is also one the most harshest. Rape is traditionally defined as any forced sexual intercourse without one s consent.
