Murder In Romantic Poetry
SPITALFIELDS On November 9th, 1888, another murder occurred in a room No 13 at Millers
Court. With the same method as previous murders, this murder possibly has done by the same
person known as Jack the Ripper or Whitechapel butcher . The first murder began on August 31st,
1888 when the body of a 42 year old woman Mary Ann Nicholls was discovered in Bucks Row
with her throat cut twice and stomach hacked open. This signified the start of this serial murder.
The second victim Annie Chapman, a 47 year old prostitute, was then found died on September 8th.
An appalling scene with Annie Chapman s stomach open (intestine on the right shoulder, the skin
of stomach on the left shoulder, missing part of the vagina and bladder), terrified people lived...

Lady Windermere disagrees with her husband s opinion that you and she belong to different world
with an impressive argument: Lady Windermere. What are called good women may have terrible
things in them, mad moods of recklessness, assertion, jealousy, sin. Bad women, as they are termed,
may have in them sorrow, repentance, pity, sacrifice. Society has never given Mrs. Erlynne a
chance to make up her mistake. Such unfair standard motivates Mrs. Erlynne to leave England.
From this issue expressed through literature, concerning humanity, I believe we citizens should
fight against inequality in our Victorian society. There are no good or bad

Personal Experience Of Meditation And Meditation Sessions
I ended up sitting directly in front of a statue, which completely obstructed my view, but that was
ok since we spent a good deal of our time meditating with our eyes closed. This was the first time
(other than in Greg s morning yoga and meditation sessions, which I had only been to a handful of
times) that I had ever really meditated with the intention to practice Buddhism. I don t really know
what I expected, but this indeed was different. The personal experience of meditating (and
chanting) was different than I expected. It was hard. Back at the Eco Lodge, (where we had
class and morning meditation) we would meditate for ten, maybe fifteen minutes maximum and
there were only ever ten other people in the room. Here, we were meditating for over a half hour
and there were easily 100 other people here. I had a really hard time trying to stay focused on
my breathing and trying to stay in the proper posture and seated position for that length of time.
Also, there was something about the amount of people that were there and the whole realness
and holiness of it all that made me quite anxious. While in the village, I also had the opportunity
to go to and participate in a temple festival. This was unlike anything I have ever done before in
my life. A parade of cars stretching five miles deep drove through the Northern Thai countryside
until finally coming up on what seemed to be a Buddhist temple in front of a giant field. Hundreds
of people quickly emerged from the cars and ran

Essay On Mark Twain
Mark Twain once stated, Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry and narrow mindedness. This quote
should let us all know how much travel actually meant to him. In his life, he did a lot of traveling
and exploring. From a newspaper apprentice to a pilot Mark Twain lived a rather adventurous life .
First, most people think that your childhood can have a pleasant or unpleasant effect on your
adulthood. Mark Twain was born Samuel Clemens on November 30, 1835 in the frontier village
of Florida, Missouri ( Mark Twain Biography.com ). He spent his boyhood in nearby Hannibal,
on the bank of the Mississippi River, observing its busy life, fascinated by its romance, but
chilled by the violence and bloodshed it bred.(28 Cox) During his childhood he became exposed
to slavery, at one point he actually discovered a body of a drowned slave. At 12, Twain would
actually have to drop out of school due to the sudden death of his father John Clemens; he would
become a young apprentice ( MarkTwainBiograpgy.com ). Twain wasn t even a teen and basically
had to become the man of the house not by choice but basically by force, this more than likely
made Twain the hard worker that he was.
Next, one could say you should treat every job as if it is actually your career, as if you would be
doing it for the rest of your life. Mark Twain had several different jobs. He began work as an
apprentice then a compositor with local printers, contributing occasional squibs.(125 MacArthur) At

Engineering Ethics of Titanic Sinking Essay
Steven Miller Phl 3221 Professor Tapp 5/24/2007 Utilitarianism Look at the Titanic When
engineers design a product many things go in to the decision making process when it comes to
selecting materials, design, and the manufacturing processes. One concern that has always been in
the decision making process is trying to make sure the outcome will always be ethically good,
although this isn t always the case. Try as they might, no person is perfect, and accidents do
happen. When engineering disasters happen there are many factors that may be involved, such as
human factors, design flaws, extreme conditions, and materials failures. When these things do
happen it is important to look at the ethical aspect of each part of the failure and... Show more

Jeremy Bentham created an algorithm to determine the degree or amount of pleasure that a
specific action is likely to cause. He called this Hedonic Calculus and it was divided into seven
different categories. Bentham based this calculation off of intensity, or the strength of the
pleasure, duration or how long the pleasure will last, certainty or how likely it is pleasure will
occur, propinquity or how soon the pleasure will occur, fecundity or the likeliness it will be
followed by pleasures, purity or probability that feelings of the opposite will occur, and extent or
how many people will be affected. I will try to put some of the major failures of the Titanic in to
these categories to determine the ethical standing of the engineers responsible for the Titanic.
When analyzing this disaster the first thing to consider is the engineer s design of the Titanic.
The Titanic was employing many new and innovative designs that were believed to make the
Titanic the safest ship ever built at that time. The engineer s of the vessel made claims that the
Titanic was unsinkable and that even in the worst possible accident at sea, the ship should have
stayed afloat for two to three days. One of the features that lead them to this claim was the 16
watertight compartments in the hull of the ship. The way they were designed allowed for up to
four compartments to be breached and they ship would still carry

Observing An Average College Student Essay
Observing an average college student during a lecture is a marvelous thing. Sure, there are the
students in the front, attentively taking notes, eagerly soaking in information to be used to pass
their next test and nothing more. Gazing over the sea of people, however, one couldn t help but
notice the vast majority of people using some sort of digitaltechnology; a sleek new MacBook Pro
alternating between Facebook political rants, a fantasy team on the verge of a winless season,
and a slideshow of Ten Celebrities You Didn t Know Have Been Arrested . A girl in sweatpants
and a tank top who didn t even bother to bring a book bag, navigating several group chats and
frantically tapping the spider webbed glass. Some folks will have the next day s homework
pulled up, some the PowerPoint slideshow on Chapter 3 Ocean Currents and Tides , even though
it s already being projected at the front of the room, and even more won t be paying the slightest
bit of attention to neither their Surface Pro or the monotonous droll of the professor, instead
wondering how to get that cute guy s number or whether they have enough in their checking
account to hit up Chick Fil A after class. The majority of these typical college students, however
much or little attention they paid to the lecture, will leave this class confident they have somewhat
of a grasp on the material. Many researchers today would beg to differ, however; studies are being
performed across the country linking multitasking in

Compare And Contrast Homeless People And The Homeless
Have you ever thought of how privileged many of us are? Or what life would be like if
everything was taken away from us? As of 2016, more than 169 people were homeless in Jackson,
Michigan. This number isn t going down. With Jackson s many homeless inhabitants, there are also
over 338 children in the foster care system just in our county alone. When comparing homeless
people and foster care children, they are very similar. Both of them do not have a permanent home
and both have nothing to hope for in the future. As many of you know, Jackson isn t the largest
county in the world. Something has to be done to help these people. We should not rest until
everyone is safe and off the streets, whether they are children, adults, veterans, or even the... Show

Most of these kids cannot find a proper home to take care of them or even adopt them in the near
future. The only things that they bear are maybe one outfit and a few things that they carry
around in a tattered grocery bag. This isn t the child s fault. This isn t the parents fault. This is
our fault for not stepping up and taking action when we hear cries of help from these children.
Since no one in Jackson County is willing to bring these hurting kids into their homes and help
take care of them, they are sent off to boarding schools that are in the northern part of Michigan.
Not only are they torn away from the only things they know, but they are also taken away from
where they grew up. These kids experience great pain almost everyday of their life. Most of the
children think it is their fault. They think that no one wants me or I m not important. These kids
feel like they lost the battle to the world that would do anything to tear them apart. These kids
feel like they lost hope that they once had and now somehow perished in the wind. These kids
feel like they can do it on their own and will never need anyone else s help. Help is just the thing
that these overwhelmed children need. They need a roof over their heads, a meal every night on
the dining room table, and a family that is always there for them in their darkest

Creating A Collaborative Process Among Students
INTRODUCTION
Focus and main aims of the research
The main focus is to create a collaborative process among the students to encourage them in
learning and interacting with others.
Keep them enthusiastic about learning, make them energetic. Give a shape to their daily work that
they can see the result of their own work.
Create a healthy and joyful environment where they can enjoy and make themselves free.
It is to understand the changes in the behavior of students, how they are reacting in different
situations, how they are blending with the class and other students.

Interest of students on different categories like book, games, and toys must be recorded. Their
approach with different elements must be taken care of.
Reading and writing quality in the initial stages and changes in the quality must be noted and
analyzed (Cameron, 2009).
A description of the scenario on which the research was made
This is a place with standard facilities and with good working conditions. The students are here
of many ages. The research tries to cover a class 12 13 year s students. The research has taken
care of the issues like their life outside the school impact of newspapers and television in their life.
It is also noted how the television, magazines effect on their choices (Toloie Eshlaghy et al. 2011).
RESEARCH APPROACH
The approach has been maintained according to the scenario. The ongoing research was done
without letting the students know about it because at this age kids tend to be sensitive. They do
not like any eyes observing them critically. This was taken into mind while doing the research.
Most of the students were from good background, there was no one from deprived background. So,
the research was made taking that into mind. As family matters make marks into mind at this age
thus the information on their life outside school was also noted (Saunders et al. 2008).
Principles of research
The students were not treated like objects in this research. Their development and help was the first

Gnosticism Essay
Gnosticism, which was viewed as a threat to early Christian beliefs can be defined as the thought
and practice especially of various cults of late pre Christian and early Christian centuries
distinguished by the conviction that matter is evil and that emancipation comes through gnosis
(King, p.5). Besides the dictionary s condensed definition summarizing Gnosticism, Gnosticism is a
much more complex belief composed of numerous myths defining humans and God and viewed as
an ancient Christian heresy. Gnosticism is rather a term invented in the early modern period to aid
in defining the boundaries of normative Christianity. Yet, it has been mistakenly come to be
thought of as a distinctive Christian heresy or seen as a religion in its own... Show more content on

One of the most important characteristics is mythopeia. Mythopoeia is, the construction of
elaborate myth through which revealed gnosis is transmitted (Birger, p. 14, 17). The Gnostics saw
these myths as a divine revelation, which gave more expressions to their beliefs when thought. This
also meant that each teacher would tell a story in their own words.
There were a handful of teachers who taught Gnosticism. They had many beliefs and teachings
where they were seeking to address their ideas and problems. Some of these teachers included:
Simon the Magician, Basilides, Valentinus, and Marcion.
Simon the Magician is introduced in the Bible as, This man is the divine power known as the
Great Power . This statement is showing Simon as God by saying he is the great power. No one
really knows exactly when Gnosticism became a movement. Orthodox writers believe that Simon
was the one to begin this movement. He is the first prophet to be known to us by name. He
thought that the Garden of Eden, exodus from Egypt, and the crossing of the Red Seas were
allegories. He believed in Jesus. Some believe he may have been the Simon mentioned in Acts 8: 9
24. He wanted to buy the Holy Spirit from those that believe. Orthodox writers like Justin

Stereotypes Of The American Dream
We often refer to the U.S as a country of immigrants. Because there are so many different people
from all over the world, it is hard to identify what the typical American is like. When you think of
the USA, some stereotypes will probably come to mind they love hamburgers, listen to country
music, each own their own guns and are probably fat. However, does this stereotype fit everybody?
It is often said that America is a country built on freedom, which is quite ironic considering the way
the Europeans stole the land from the Native Americans and the country is built upon the backs of
black slaves. What many Americans have in common is that they believe in the American Dream.

They tend to vote for the Republican Party and identify themselves as Christian. To mention
another region, El Norte has been influenced by the Hispanics and has taken some important
Latino values; family loyalty and group solidarity. In New Netherland, the early belief in freedom
of religion, speech and trade became a trademark and it still is today. The Native Americans are
the indigenous people of America. They were the first people of America and are worth mentioning
when discussing who the Americans are today. Native Americans have their own traditions and
beliefs. Unfortunately, the white settlers have mistreated them and because of that, many have lost
a part of their culture and those who do not live in reservations have had to adjust to the more
common culture. In conclusion, it is hard to define the typical American. What most have in
common are the core values freedom. The Americans are often very patriotic and are big believers
in the constitution as well as their government. Most of them believe in the American Dream
although many young people doubt it. Like minded people often end up living in the same places

Negative Publicity Rains Upon AAMC Hired in 1998, Ephonia M. Green was hired to work at

yearly salary earned her approximately $56,000 a year however she is charged with stealing
more than $5 million from AAMC over a period of 12 years until the fraud was discovered in
July 2013. Ms. Green s access to submitting invoices for payments through AAMC allowed her to
create a scheme that would catapult her well over her yearly salary. Ms. Green created company
names that were similar to legitimate vendors of AAMC in which she then registered those trade
names with the Maryland Department of Assessments and Taxation. She then created fictitious
invoices for those companies as actual vendors of AAMC. Using the names that she created, she
then opened bank accounts at several local banks. These financial institutions would serve as
personal businesses used to receive payment in which she would personally profit from. As an
employee of AAMC, Ms. Green reviewed the false invoices and signed off on them which indicated
to the accounting department those invoices were approved for payment. Ms. Green also advised
with each invoice that the checks generated to pay the invoice, should be returned directly to her
versus mailing them out to the fictitious vendor. The accounting department had no way of

The Dark Room Of The Room
The Dark Room
The dancers in the room constantly remain in contact with anything the dancers touch. The dancers
progress from a wall to the arms of a person to a floor. The connection remains the same through
these actions. The points of contact remain with the body, and the dancer starts exploring different
perspectives of what the body can do with in relation to the ground.
The dancers consistently in contact with the objects around them. In the beginning, a woman walks
on the side of the wall while walking into an object. As a woman in a white dress comes out of a
swinging door, she walks forward with her body leaning on the wall. The women maintain the
contact of her left hand with the side left side of the wall. The room is full of chairs, so the
women also bumps into an object with a loud noise while leaning and maintaining the contact with
the wall. The noise is loud and drags on for the audience. The object would be a black chair. The
black chairs are not noticeable because the room at the very beginning of the dance is very dark. It
is not until several minutes into the play that you notice there are chairs are in the room.
Another instance of contact in the dance is when the women heads to her chair, she stands and
takes of her dress. The dress coming off revealing the bright white skin in contrast with the dark
room. The women stand briefly, looking straight ahead, and proceeds downward in a direct motion.

Without the Belgians, the Congo became financially unstable and lost whatever instruction and
guidance the Belgians thought to give whether it be any degree of education, which was then
thrust onto the Africans to teach themselves, or political stability. While the political stability was
not in the Congo s favor, it was still more beneficial than the leader the Congo had after Lumumba.
The loss of stability led to the Congo being considered lesser than other countries and led to other
countries, the United States of America, for example, shunning the Congolese. The financial
instability also led to the Congo being unable to communicate effectively with other countries the
sister countries of Africa or the countries abroad because the people of the Congo (or Zaire, as it
was called under Mobutu, the outsider that took the place of Lumumba) could not afford to use
what little finances they had for anything apart from basic survival necessities. This was alienating
in nature, but exile also proved to be enriching as well. The exile brought about the election of
Lumumba which in turn proved to produce ideas that would benefit the Congo. Lumumba s
election also resulted in higher morale. When he was killed, the Congolese were still loyal and
remembered what could have been under Lumumba. The Congolese passion and loyalty for

Cosmological Argument Research Paper
To what extent does The Cosmological Argument prove the existence of God?
There are many different arguments which attempt to help us understand more about the universe.
One of these arguments is the Cosmological Argument which is essentially an argument which
consists of 8 main arguments; things exist because of a cause, these things do not have to exist but
they do, the chain of causes goes back to the beginning of time, time began when the universe was
created, there must have been a first cause which is responsible for everything else including the
universe, the first cause must have a necessary existence, only God has necessary existence,
therefore God is the first cause of the universe s existence. The argument basically puts across ...

Scottish philosopher David Hume stated that we have no experience of universes being made.
This shows that one of the biggest flaws with the Cosmological Argument is that we are not
Gods and have never created anything as large or as complex as an entire universe. Hume also
maintained that just because we know that everything has a cause does not mean that we can
assume that the universe in its entirety is a result of something else. This continues his idea of
humans being incapable of understanding issues of such a large scale and that we are wasting
our time trying to do so therefore we should just assume that the universe simply exists because it
exists. This theory is very well thought out, as there is no tangible evidence that there is a single
entity which created the universe. A wise man proportions his belief to the evidence David Hume.
The quote shows that Hume would be not at all convinced with the Cosmological Argument unless
solid evidence of a creator were to be placed before him. This believe it when I see it attitude

(i) Environmental Analysis External Opportunities and Threats
The demographic, economic and the socio cultural segments would be the most relevant segments
to Whole Foods Market. These segments have a direct impact on the profitability, sustainability and
survivability of Whole Foods Market, and the organic food industry. The relevance of the
demographic segment stems from the fact that the age structure, income distribution and population
size are important factors which will influence the demand for organic products. The economic
segment is relevant, as an affluent population will continue to drive and sustain demand for organic
products. The socio cultural segment is another relevant segment, where attitudes about quality of

Other than an increase in consumption of fresh fruits, vegetables and grain based products,
vitamins and nutritional supplements have also seen an increase demand due to changes in
societal trends. Americans are now more willing to splurge on healthy, organic foods. In fact,
organic foods are deemed beneficial and it has since been accepted as a mainstream choice of
diet. Changing preferences due to a higher proportion of women in the workforce also mean that
consumers today prefer a one stop shopping experience that is being offered by Whole Foods.
The organic food industry has seen a huge spike in growth that is expected to continue into the
future due to an increase in consumption. This will provide Whole Foods Market with huge
opportunities. In addition, a wave of ethical and responsible consumption has swept across America.
Whole Foods decision to pursue sustainable activities will certainly give consumers an added
incentive to purchase its organic products.
Stiff competition within the industry would be one of the key threats that Whole Foods will face.
Strong competitors, coupled with grocery stores that have incorporated natural food sections into
the stores, have made it more challenging for Whole Foods to maintain its pole position in the
market. As the market for organic foods expands rapidly, mainstream supermarkets are also
competing for a slice of the pie. Strict government regulations and the lack of prime locations have

Essay On Mercury Pollution
Mercury pollution occurs from industrial sources such as mining, power plants and coal
combustion centers. When mercury is released from the sources, it can travel halfway around
the world before it ever enters into the waterways and contaminates the fish that we then eat.
Through the trade of those fish, people in every continent are at risk for mercury pollution.
Newborns are also at risk of mercury pollution due to the consummation of fish by their mothers,
thousands of babies are at risk every year of impaired motor skills ( Reduce Mercury Pollution ).
In order to reduce the pollutants of mercury we need to implement a policy to clean up sites
already contaminated, limit the amounts discharged into the water and provide consumers on
tips to reduce their exposure to it. My first step in decreasing the amount of mercury is to focus
on the areas that are already contaminated. They would priority since the mercury would have
had time to sit and settle and we would want to clean it up before it causes further harm. Some of
the sites would be cleaned up under the EPA s superfund policy. One example of a site that is
being cleaned up is the Carson River Mercury Site in Nevada. This is the former sites of mills
and mining that have contaminated the soil, waterways and fish over a 50 mile stretch. Nevada
at one time recommended that limited consumption of fish and duck from the river should be in
effect. State and federal actions are being performed in order to excavate and remove the
contaminated soils and they were sent to a mineral resource recovery facility. That action has
already reduced the amount of exposure during the monitoring period and they plan to add a
layer of clean topsoil to reduce the exposure to any mercury soil left behind. They have also
worked in sampling 26 different developments for mercury affects and levels. They are working
on figuring out the cost and benefit of cleaning up the rivers sediment to try to remove the
mercury from the river, wetlands and reservoir. In the meantime short term cleanup will be done in
order to prevent threats to the population( Carson River Mercury Site ). The second step in my
policy to reduce the mercury levels would be to limit the amount of discharge

Juno Test Essay
Splendid blue auroras at Jupiter s north and south posts are putting on a veritable firecrackers

Jupiter s vivid auroras have been imaged some time recently, however a month of every day

These auroras are exceptionally sensational and among the most dynamic I have ever seen,
Jonathan Nichols, an analyst at the University of Leicester in England who is utilizing Hubble s
perceptions to study auroras on Jupiter, said in an announcement. It practically appears as though
Jupiter is setting up a firecrackers party for the approaching entry of Juno.

The Effects Of Hip Hop Music On Adolescents
Effects of Hip Hop Music on Adolescents Music is a significant part of the lives of most people
all over the world. In the United States, people listen to more than 25 hours each week [1]. Hip
hop makes up a large percentage of adolescent music genre preference. It goes without saying
that this overwhelming presence of music in the lives of so many people will have a
psychological effect on American culture and our way of life. But how exactly is Hip Hop
affecting us psychologically and culturally? The effects of music videos on adolescences have
been the subject of controversy for decades. The common reason for the concern has been
appropriately summed by Arnett (a Research Professor of Psychology at Clark University in
Worcester, Massachusetts), who explained, women are used as props for the illusive life the
music video is portraying the artist to have. The concern that hip hop culture, as seen in music
videos, has become heavily influential on young people s views of sexuality. The concern about
mainstream hip hop music and music videos sexualizing women, in particular, is so omnipresent,
many can even be referenced as rape culture by embedded sexual violence in the lyrics being
disguised as pleasurable elements of hip hop. The Kaiser Family Foundation in the year 2001
reported that teenagers rank entertainment media as the main source for information about sexuality
and sexual health [3]. Descriptive language and sexual imagery in music videos directly affect

Dean Takahashi s assert reveals the interview between himself (VentureBeat) and Pixars supervising
animator Scott Clark. During the interview, Scott Clark discusses about how complex animation
has become over time from how animation used to be completed fifteen or so years ago and how
this new technology takes animations to a whole new level, referring to their most recent film,
Monsters University. The tools of technology has become a big fancy pencil said Clark. Even
though there are dozens of new tools animators use in this time, there are still tools we use that
were created almost 20 years ago. As technology advances, work becomes a little faster but still
takes the patience trait needed. Takahashi asks Clark about having an army to create these films.
Clark responds that as films get richer and complex, such as with more characters, that it pretty
much takes an army to complete the film. Each person is hand animating something.

Tort And Business Law Essay
Law of Tort and Business Contracts Introduction According to law, tort occurs when a person
fails to observe duty imposed on one by law, to ensure there is no injury to a determinate person.
In most cases, the remedies for a tort are in the form of unliquidated damages for instance
different amounts of compensation, which are determined by the courts of law. The law seeks
to compensate the aggrieved party, unlike the criminal cases where the offenders are punished
according to law. However, certain cases in tort fall both in the civil and criminal law brackets.
Examples include assault and battery. The tort of negligence is addressed in this article, because
of its influence compared to the other torts of law. The liability attracted by negligence comes
from a basis of duty to practice reasonable care (Geistfeld, 2011, pg 144). First case analysis:

School Campuses And Its Effects On The United States
Violence in schools has spread widely throughout the world, leading to many problems among
families and students. On April 20, 1999, Columbine High School was the most famous and
deadly act of violence in the United States due to a lack of security. The massacre happened where
Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold killed 12 students, one teacher, and injuring 21 other students before
turning the guns on themselves. As a safe environment such as school, it is very important to make
sure students feel comfortable and safe during the semester. The best solution to minimizing the
violation from happening again involves two actions; make all school campuses improved by
increasing the number of securitypoliceand increasing the security cameras. One of the things that
campuses need to improve is to increase the number of the security police. Some school campuses
are only hired about one or two security polices which is not very secure for the big building such
as colleges and universities. Since ... there were thirty one associated violent deaths from July 1st,
2010 through June 30, 2011 (Truman and Jennifer). Based on the statistic, there are schools around
the United States that are lack of security in the buildings and the violence has increased rapidly. As
of one or two security police is not enough to prevent thousands of bodies in the whole campus
building. However, the university did not evacuate the campus or notify students of that attack until

Are Nuclear Fusion Good Or Bad
To understand how and why nuclear weapons cause so much disaster and pain, it is first necessary
to understand how they work. There are two types of nuclear bomb: fission and fusion. What is
fission? Well, everything in the world is made up of atoms. Atoms are made up of a nucleus, which
consists of a ball of protons and neutrons, and electrons, which orbit the nucleus. Fission is the
process by which atoms are hit with neutrons and split into lighter atoms. In this process, the huge
amount of binding energy which holds the protons and neutrons of the nucleus together is released,
and pieces of the nucleus fly apart with enormous energy called radioactivity. This energy is turned
into heat, which vaporizes all nearby material. When the inventors realized how frighteningly
powerful their discovery could... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Anyhow, using their new knowledge of fission, scientists set to work and created a fission bomb. In
the fission bomb, neutrons are purposefully given energy. They naturally collide with atoms, which
fission, or split apart, and release two or three more neutrons and a lot of energy. These extra
neutrons run into other atoms, causing them to fission and repeat the process. This starts a chain
reaction. Every time the number of fissions doubles, it is called a generation. When the number of
neutrons produced in one generation of fissions equals the fissions in the next, critical mass is
attained. Because some neutrons are lost or absorbed, the chain reaction can only be maintained
when there is critical mass. A frightening fact about the fission bomb is that each new generation
has as much energy in it as all the generations before it put together. Thus, every moment after the
chain reaction has started, the bomb becomes twice as dangerous as the moment before. Although
they are operated differently, uranium and plutonium bombs both use

Analysis Of Behind The Formaldehyde Curtain
Tanha Uddin Professor Ohanenye English 1301 17 September 2016 Analysis of Behind the
Formaldehyde Curtain by Jessica Mitford There are quite a few things out there in the world that
are unknown by most humans, and one such thing was brought to light by Jessica Mitford. Behind
the Formaldehyde Curtain is a very detailed passage written by Jessica Mitford, describing the
highly unknown process of embalming a corpse goes through before being presented at their
funeral. Throughout the passage, Mitford uses description as her way to present the entire
information regarding the topic, while using chronological order as a subordinate in order to mildly
state the many steps taken, and cause and effect to show the impact embalming had on others rather

These subordinates helped enhance the information being shared by Mitford. The chronological
order helped determine the order at which the process of embalming occurred, making it easier
for readers to get a mental view of the situation. For example, Mitford starts by stating: The body
is first laid out in the undertaker s morgue (239), and then proceeds to state, step by step, what
occurs afterwards. Another thing noticeable in the passage, was the cause and effect portrayed, as
related to embalming. As it was a not so well known thing for the majority of the world,
embalming seemed to have different reactions from people. After one English woman participated
in a funeral in San Francisco, she came across one such corpse that was embalmed, and as a result
she stated: Then and there I decided that I could never face another American funeral even dead.

Giving injections of a drug to children who may not need it would be unnecessary time and money
spent on treatment.
According to bioethicist Arthur L. Caplan, using such drugs to change the height of children
implies it is unacceptable to be short. Whenever you take people on the low end of a distribution
curve and say they have a disorder, you re starting down a slippery slope (Bailey). It is dangerous
to state people who are different have a problem or disorder. If one group is considered abnormal
then more will believe there is something seriously wrong with them. People of short stature often
do not have disorders. Short stature is not a problem, it is just a situation, just like those who are
naturally taller than most. Because these people are being labeled with disorders, they believe the
use of drugs will increase their growth to, what people consider, is a normal height.
At a young age, it is hard to tell what size a child will grow to. There are many formulas people
have said are accurate in predicting how tall your child will be . . . some of these may have at
one time been based upon some scientific ideas, most are only a reasonable guess at best (Steele

Environmental Changes In Lord Of The Flies
People are subject to change their way of life when their environment changes. The novel Lord
of the Flies is written by William Golding. The novel about a group of british boys who get
trapped on an island during a time over. Over the course of time they spend on the island some
of the boys go into a savage state of mind. However some had balance between savagery and
civilization. Throughout the novel Golding reveals that humans are conditioned by their
environment to behave in either moral, or immoral ways. Ralph illustrates that humans
personalities can change because of the environment they are in. When Ralph joins one of the
tribes dances, his savagery takes over when, Ralph, carried away by a sudden thick excitement,
grabbed Eric s spear and jabbed at Robert with it (114). This proves that when someone s
environment changes so does their personality. It displays that even the kindest of people can
succumb to the dark side. However, when the naval officer comes to rescue the boys Ralph began

Many European countries took the opportunity to develop a new territory where they could prosper

was maintaining positive relationships with Native Americans and running a successful colony.
Although all European countries who showed interest in establishing territories in the Americashad

People emigrated in hopes of gaining land, improving their social statuses and wealth, and to
convert the Natives to Christianity. Many poor beggars sought new work as indentured
servants, and obtaining land of their own after serving 4 7 years. This was a chance for them to
regain their social status, an opportunity that would not be available back home. It was also a
gamble, since life expectancy was very low for servants due to being overworked, as well as
susceptible to diseases. To many, however, the risk was worth it. In England, there were massive
amounts of unemployed workers. Poverty and crime increased dramatically, but by moving to the
new colonies the poor received more of a fresh start. In Virginia, the colonists profited from
harvesting tobacco, but they were overridden by diseases and did not have a healthy lifestyle. In
New England, there was far less death by diseases and had more middle class residents than the
poor servants down South. With Puritan leadership, the colonists had a better worth ethic and

Is the of style e. e. cummings poetry its true genius, or the very reason the works should be called
drivel? Alfred Kazin says that the poet s style is arrogant and slap stick and that cummings is the
duality of the traditionalist and the clown (155). Others, such as Richard P. Blackmur, say his
technique is an insult to the writing profession. He says that cummings poetry would only appeal to
those with a childish spirit (140). It was Mark Van Doren, though, who probably said the truth
about cummings. He has a richly sensuous mind; his verse is distinguished by fluidity and weight;
he is equipped to range lustily and long among the major passions (140) Through examples of his

[W]hose only secret all creation sings is that the mother s [l]ove provides the universal rhythm . . .
despite man s attempt to change or stop the rhythm, it marks the limits on his destructive power
(Powers 237) and who knows what lies beyond.
In Buffalo Bill s cummings style not only includes line breaks, but run on and joined words as
well. His line breaks and technique of separating words is a precise and deliberate method which
causes the reader to think. Separating defunct by itself could also mean death (Dilworth 176).
Using the word Jesus in a place by itself with a long space, indicating a pause, before and after it,
indicate that it is not being used to describe Jesus Christ, but rather as an expression of
amazement and awe, common in everyday speech. Cummings, throughout this poem, uses space
in order to indicate pauses, much as a comma would do. In this poem he also uses run on and
joined words to emphasize description of Buffalo Bill. In line four of the poem cummings wrote
watersmooth silver to describe the stallion in line five. The combination of the words are referring
to the fluidity and grace of the mighty stallion, but suggest that it is a coward by describing its
blood as water. This image does not coincide with the masculinity Buffalo Bill, himself, portrayed
by not acting like a coward. Silver, used in conjunction with watersmooth, that described the
stallion, Dilworth stated, could also refer to the silver haired Bill

Antony s sly words convince Brutus that him speaking at Caesar s funeral will benefit everyone.
Antony s language persuades the person who murdered his greatest ally, to have complete faith in
him. This characteristic of leadership demonstrates Antony s ability to meet his personal goals
using his dynamic speech skills. Brutus speaks before Caesar s funeral and mentions that Caesar
was ambitious. After Brutus speech, Antony makes an even better speech that refutes all of Brutus
points. Antony states that Caesar could not be ambitious because Caesar brought home wealth to
Rome, cried for the citizens, and that Caesar refused the crown three times. Antony cries after the
speech, and tells that citizens that judgement, thou art fled to brutish beasts (Shakespeare 83).
When Antony mentions this to the crowd, he causes the whole crowd to rethink their decision to
follow Brutus. Antony uses his words to convey to the crowd that Brutus could not possibly be

The Atrocities of World War II

years of World War II, and after the war. Many were unrecognized and undocumented and the
stories of the dead still remain unknown. My purpose here is to tell the story of the men, women,

most dramatic and well known atrocity of World War II because of the sheer number of deaths and

was just used as paper. There is picture of German children making castles out of thousands of
German dollars because they were worthless. The American economy is still affected today by
the results of World War II. Thousands of war bonds were sold to the public in efforts to raise
money for the war, build weapons, build ships, build tanks, and pay soldiers. An enormous sum
of the money that we owe to other countries dates back to World War II. The amount of federal

Sailing To Byzantium Summary
Eventually Become Old (An analysis of Sailing to Byzantium ) Great poetry is best
complemented with great analysis. Some of the greatest commentators of our time have been
able to transfigure readers into reading poetry English language poetry in both deeper and
broader senses (Gursoy). Sailing to Byzantium is a great poem that is easy to relate to. The
ideas that are expressed through W. B. Yeats are clear and well put together together in order to
create a direct message to take away. Yeats writes this poem as he begins to realize what life
really is about. In Sailing to Byzantium, W. B. Yeats has contributed many messages for humans
to easily apply to their lives. In Sailing to Byzantium, by W. B. Yeats, the message that as we
grow up, those who are young want to experience life and have no desire to be directed by those
who are old. This is a true statement, as it can be clearly defined. Although sometimes we should
take advice from those who are at a higher point in life than us, we often choose to ignore them in
order to regain focus for ourselves. As we continue our lives, we are constantly wishing to stay
young. In the poem, Yeats describes this feeling in these words. Caught in that sensual music all
neglect Monuments of unaging intellect (line 7). Yeats writes this to prove his position that he
only wishes to experience life as one who may continually live life only by way of experiencing as
a young person. Today, the poem Sailing to Byzantium has been

Analysis Of The West In My Antonia
The Frontier
(An analysis of the west) My Antonia is a novel about the frontier. It is set in the early 1900 s
and is about what happened during this time. Nebraska is the state My Antonia is set in, but most
of the novel goes for a lot of the states in the west. According to Kathleen Norris, Cather had the
great good fortune to have lived among the first generation of white settlers in 1880s Nebraska, and
she gives witness to their time and place in such a way that American literature will never forget
them (Norris). This quote helps the reader see that the author, Willa Cather, had a reliable point of
view when she was writing this story because it was a lot of the stuff that she went through and
saw. As a result of this many believed... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The environment is very important to do with the way people lived. The environment includes
the weather they had their and the condition of the soil. They considered the area a vast treeless
wasteland (Settlers). This quote shows that it didn t have many trees which made the weather
worse because there were no trees to stop the blizzards and storms. The book has a great
example of this, All day the storm went on. The snow did not fall this time, it simply spilled out
of heaven, like thousands of featherbeds being emptied. This shows that it doesn t just fall it
pours out, almost like a rain storm. Many saved up their food for the winter, so they didn t have
to go outside as much. They still had to take care of their fields and such, but they mostly stayed
inside. In anyone s life their environment is vital to how they turn out in life and how they act
around others. Although it can t decide for he or she, it can lead to a certain way of living. The
environment in the west leads most of the people that live there to be hard workers and they are
also not as affectionate

The Godfather Themes
The Godfather is a movie about an American mafia family in the forties. The story is of one of
the Godfather s sons Michael and his unexpected rise to power after experiencing treachery,
tragedy, and the need to fulfill his duty to the family. The settings in the film created depth
whether it was used to give a sense of realism in the environments or to portray some deeper
message to the audience. The acting utilized intense emotions such as fear and despair in order to
give a sense of devotion to the Corleone family. These two aspects work together in order to
portray the overarching theme of how the characters have so much loyalty to the mafia that they
have put their family over their moral values without being aware of it, and the struggle

The World Trade Center Essay
When the world trade center was first opened in 1937, it was considered to be one of the greatest
construction projects in United States history. The twin towers, standing at 1,368 feet tall and
1,362 feet tall, were the two tallest buildings that the world had ever seen (The World Trade
Center). Not only was the World Trade Center an institute for office space and shopping, but it
also served as a tourist attraction that people from all across the globe would come to see. The
towers went on to became a part of the daily life of New York City. Consequently, no one could
have foreseen the horrendous events that would occur on September 11, 2001. Not even the
President of the United Statescould have expected something of this magnitude. It was just an
average Tuesday morning in New York when the unthinkable happened. American Airlines Flight
11 crashed into the World Trade Center s North Tower at precisely 8:46 AM (Ritter). The entire
city was instantly thrown into a frenzy of panic and disarray. No one knew what exactly had
happened and citizens were looking for answers. Many tuned into NBC as they began coverage of
the events at 9:52 AM (Wing). The network started off by interviewing a shocked Jennifer
Overstein over the phone. Apparently, Jennifer had witnessed the first explosion as it happened.
She didn t know what had caused the explosion, but she was frantically explaining what happened.
She gave descriptions of emergency vehicles, fearful citizens, and heavy smoke

Christopher Columbus, Andrew Jackson, And President Van Buren
This war began when the White man crossed the Atlantic Ocean in search of independence. They
left Europe and slowly began fighting for a better life which eventually led to their break away
from the harsh brutalities of the British government. When, in all reality, their search for
independence led to the abolishment of the freedom of the Native Americans. Instead of placing
light onto this subject, it is swept under the rug in schools across America today. I believe that the
way the American government chose to gain territory was selfish and ignorant and led to the loss
of many cultures and precious lives. Some of the ways this happened was by the removal of rights,
battles, untruthful treaties, and confiscation of land. In many ways American history books and
movies portray Christopher Columbus, Andrew Jackson, and President Van Buren to be American
heroes, but these so called heroes are actually murderers, thieves, and liars. Jackson and Van Buren
believed that the Indians needed to become civilized and convert to Christianity, yet the actions
these two presidents practiced were opposite of what the religion boasts. Obviously, they were the
ones who needed to become civilized and remember where they came from and that what they were
taking away from the Indians is exactly what they had fought for. Whenever Jackson was elected
president, he implemented laws that did away with the tribe as a legal unit and made them subject
to militia duty and state taxes,

The Second Sex!
The Feminist Movement (also known as The Women s Liberation movement) is a social movement
organized around the belief that both men and women are equal in every way. The role of
feminism in the 20th century changed the lives of many women, opening new doors to greater
opportunities such has: jobs, education, and empowerment. Many achievements and organizations
were a success in bringing a new role into society for women all over. However, the battle that
seems to keep reappearing over time is the constant struggle between man and women and the
fundamental question that still is left unanswered, who is inferior? In her novel, The Second Sex,
Simone de Beauvoirdiscusses the role of women as being oppressed in the views of men who...

Beauvoir notes in her second volume, When I wrote that one is not born, but rather becomes a
woman I meant just this that women become feminine through the process of social brainwashing
and stereotyping. She states key points of womanhood that are notably unseen or foreign in man:
pregnancy, lactation, and menstruation. Thus, this type of phenomena contributes to the marked
difference in women all together. Furthermore, what society seems to overlook when they take
these types of differences are the existential importance s that each carry on. Thus, woman may
fail to lay claim to the status of subject because she lacks definite resources, because she feels the
necessary bond that ties her to man regardless of reciprocity, and because she is often very well
pleased with her role as the Other.
Women overall are raised believe that the only way to achieve happiness and gain success is
through the acceptance of denying her true identity. Women all over are being deprived of their
possibilities for fulfillment and opportunity because they are shaped based on their childhood
where they learn to accept the dissatisfying life of work around the house, nurturing and raising
children, and the sexual slavishness. While living the kind of adulthood, Beauvoir addresses the
certain roles women live in a sexist society: wife, mother,

What I Did The Baylor Interdisciplinary Curriculum ( Bic )
There were many ways I could have gone about writing this essay, the needless use of big words
to convey simple points, the insertion of irrelevant long quotes just to make the minimum page
requirement, but this is the last undergraduate essay I will ever write. If I will write, I might as
well write with my best effort and in my own style. Reflecting over my journey these last five
years has been difficult. These years have been filled with so many trials and tribulations that it
feels as though a lifetime has passed since I first set foot on the campus of Baylor University, yet
at the same time it feels as though it went by so fast, I merely blinked and it was over. I can
honestly say the Baylor Interdisciplinary Curriculum (BIC) is my greatest and most precious
takeaway from my undergraduate experience. It was in the BIC that I learned to enlarge my
perspective, become more fully aware of myself, and become prepared for leadership and service.
I have been challenged by the BIC and to my surprise, I rose to the challenge. This experience
cannot be fully explained without evaluating and reflecting upon the various worlds, lives, and
cultures explored in the BIC and how they are personally related to me.
The BIC educated me on the World of Rhetoric and from that experience I gained profound oratory
and writing skills that I will utilize the rest of my life. Out of all the concepts I have studied in the
BIC, the World of Rhetoric was by far the most jarring and

270 S. W3d 13 Summary
The petitioner argues that the use of Briseno factors violates the eighth amendment because it may
allow for the execution of the intellectually disabled because they contradict the medically accepted
definition of intellectually disabled.
While appealing to the Court of Criminal Appeals of Texas, the petitioner argued, that the trial court
erred in failing to disregard the jury s answer to the mental retardation special issue and in denying
the appellant s motion for judgment notwithstanding the verdict. 270 S.W3d 13 (Tex. Cr. App.
2010). The petitioner argued that because he introduced expert witnesses to demonstrate mental
retardation and the State did not introduce its own expert witnesses in rebuttal, the trial court should
have disregarded the jury s answer to the mental retardation special issue or granted his motion for
judgment notwithstanding the verdict. 270 S.W.3d 13 (Tex. Cr. App. 2010). The Texas court found

Sex Tourism In Thailand Essay
Sex tourism examines the issues that emerge from a sex worker (prostitute) and tourist (farang
/customer) interactions. Sex Tourism is progressively spreading and it is now a worldwide subject
matter that every country can relate to some way or the other. Sex tourism it has been around for
decades and it has grown more widespread. This industry is very well understood by the tourist. It
is not formally publicized; it is rather through informal exchanges, word of mouth and internet, that
the farang gets to know who to see and where to go. In Thailandsex tourism is a main source of
income for many rural families. These families are poor and the fact that the state of the economy
of the country is bad it makes the situation worse. In this analytical essay, I will argue the cause and
origin of prostitutionas a result of the Current economic status in Thailand.
Sex tourism, for the vast majority, conjures up an image of red light districts in places like
Amsterdam and Patpong Bangkok. However, the historical backdrop of sex tourism dates back
to the time of the industrial revolution era (1820s 1840s). During the Vietnam war, a large
number of U.S soldiers were involved in the boom of the brothels industry and organized
prostitutions. According to class lectures, the U.S government allowed the soldiers to go to
Thailand for Rest and Recreation (R R). (holiday sex 6). Prostitution was already in practice before
the war, however, its because of the vast majority of soldiers

Webvan had minimal power against large distributors like P G and had no private label presence to
offset this disadvantage. Webvan s non traditional operating model was also an issue. The use of
non standard pallet configurations was an example of how large suppliers made accommodations
for a smaller reseller. It is assumed that Webvan s supplier relations were complicated by its non
standard shipping requirements, and the sheer number of vendors the company worked with.
Finally, Webvan s systems, though highly automated, were extremely expensive, overly customized
(and thus hard to upgrade) and insufficiently funded to support expansion into new markets.
SWOT Analysis: Opportunities
First, the $650B size of the US grocery market was a major opportunity; only a small percentage
of this market would be required for a company to have significant profits. Second, both web
purchases and, in particular, online grocery consumer purchases were predicted to increase. The
$16.8B in online grocery sales was predicted to represent 1 out of every 5 dollars spent online by
2004 (see figure 1). Third, customer data opportunities were emerging through all online retailers.
Webvan s ability to leverage customer purchasing information and its ability to share this data with
its suppliers constituted an advantage over traditional grocery competitors. Finally, capital markets
in the late 1990s were eagerly funding start up companies.

Essay On Child Protection Act 1989
The CYP F Act 1989 is relevant to the scenario presented through care and protection of the
children involved. The twins are placed with Mrs Hodge because they did not want to go live
with any other family, they feared that family would be like mum. However, a written consent
for care is needed from the twins because they are over twelve years old (Ludbrook, 1991).
Ludbrook stresses the importance of immediate investigation once they have received a report of
abuse. If the investigation brings forth serious issues, it is reported to a care and protection co
ordinator who then urgently calls a familygroup conference. Family group conferences takes time
to set up. In a serious case, the police or Social Welfare can get permission from the Family court
to produce a warrant that allows them to remove the children (in this case the twins) from their
parents or caregivers. The children are temporary placed in a safe place such as institutional foster
home or residence (this scenario, the twins were placed with Mrs Hodge). However, a court
warrant is not needed if... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Work Of Art In The Age Of Mechanical Reproduction Summary
In the piece The Work of Art in the Age of Mechanical Reproduction, Benjamin tackles the
evolution of reproduction coinciding with the introduction advanced technologies; and how art,
specifically film, has transformed since this introduction. He asserts that reproduction has now
become part of the process in art because of mediums like filmand photography, however their
reliance on technology creates less authenticity among art forms due to less of the original art
still be connected to the piece. While the authenticity starts to decrease, the number of people
who are able to individually experience the art increases because of technologies that are able to
mass produce art. This creates his ideas of auras, which are the unique connection between the
object of art being experienced and the person experiencing it. However, these objects that are
desired to be experienced are sometimes only because of what Benjamin refers to as the ritual
they have, or history. Benjamin claims that technology separates itself from this idea, creating a
medium where reproduction is part of the underlying goal for the work to be successful. This
success creates the reception Benjamin breaks down into two different values: cult value and
exhibition value. Exhibition value he describes as what the art is valued at when in a public
setting, however cult value is the value assigned to art that is not available for the general public to
see. Technological reproduction now plays a larger part in

  • 2. Murder In Romantic Poetry SPITALFIELDS On November 9th, 1888, another murder occurred in a room No 13 at Millers Court. With the same method as previous murders, this murder possibly has done by the same person known as Jack the Ripper or Whitechapel butcher . The first murder began on August 31st, 1888 when the body of a 42 year old woman Mary Ann Nicholls was discovered in Bucks Row with her throat cut twice and stomach hacked open. This signified the start of this serial murder. The second victim Annie Chapman, a 47 year old prostitute, was then found died on September 8th. An appalling scene with Annie Chapman s stomach open (intestine on the right shoulder, the skin of stomach on the left shoulder, missing part of the vagina and bladder), terrified people lived... What are called good women may have terrible things in them, mad moods of recklessness, assertion, jealousy, sin. Bad women, as they are termed, may have in them sorrow, repentance, pity, sacrifice. Society has never given Mrs. Erlynne a chance to make up her mistake. Such unfair standard motivates Mrs. Erlynne to leave England. From this issue expressed through literature, concerning humanity, I believe we citizens should fight against inequality in our Victorian society. There are no good or bad ... • 3. Personal Experience Of Meditation And Meditation Sessions I ended up sitting directly in front of a statue, which completely obstructed my view, but that was ok since we spent a good deal of our time meditating with our eyes closed. This was the first time (other than in Greg s morning yoga and meditation sessions, which I had only been to a handful of times) that I had ever really meditated with the intention to practice Buddhism. I don t really know what I expected, but this indeed was different. The personal experience of meditating (and chanting) was different than I expected. It was hard. Back at the Eco Lodge, (where we had class and morning meditation) we would meditate for ten, maybe fifteen minutes maximum and there were only ever ten other people in the room. Here, we were meditating for over a half hour and there were easily 100 other people here. I had a really hard time trying to stay focused on my breathing and trying to stay in the proper posture and seated position for that length of time. Also, there was something about the amount of people that were there and the whole realness and holiness of it all that made me quite anxious. While in the village, I also had the opportunity to go to and participate in a temple festival. This was unlike anything I have ever done before in my life. A parade of cars stretching five miles deep drove through the Northern Thai countryside until finally coming up on what seemed to be a Buddhist temple in front of a giant field. Hundreds of people quickly emerged from the cars and ran ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Essay On Mark Twain Mark Twain once stated, Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry and narrow mindedness. This quote should let us all know how much travel actually meant to him. In his life, he did a lot of traveling and exploring. From a newspaper apprentice to a pilot Mark Twain lived a rather adventurous life . First, most people think that your childhood can have a pleasant or unpleasant effect on your adulthood. Mark Twain was born Samuel Clemens on November 30, 1835 in the frontier village of Florida, Missouri ( Mark Twain Biography.com ). He spent his boyhood in nearby Hannibal, on the bank of the Mississippi River, observing its busy life, fascinated by its romance, but chilled by the violence and bloodshed it bred.(28 Cox) During his childhood he became exposed to slavery, at one point he actually discovered a body of a drowned slave. At 12, Twain would actually have to drop out of school due to the sudden death of his father John Clemens; he would become a young apprentice ( MarkTwainBiograpgy.com ). Twain wasn t even a teen and basically had to become the man of the house not by choice but basically by force, this more than likely made Twain the hard worker that he was. Next, one could say you should treat every job as if it is actually your career, as if you would be doing it for the rest of your life. Mark Twain had several different jobs. He began work as an apprentice then a compositor with local printers, contributing occasional squibs.(125 MacArthur) At 17 his comic sketch The Dandy ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 5. Engineering Ethics of Titanic Sinking Essay Steven Miller Phl 3221 Professor Tapp 5/24/2007 Utilitarianism Look at the Titanic When engineers design a product many things go in to the decision making process when it comes to selecting materials, design, and the manufacturing processes. One concern that has always been in the decision making process is trying to make sure the outcome will always be ethically good, although this isn t always the case. Try as they might, no person is perfect, and accidents do happen. When engineering disasters happen there are many factors that may be involved, such as human factors, design flaws, extreme conditions, and materials failures. When these things do happen it is important to look at the ethical aspect of each part of the failure and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Jeremy Bentham created an algorithm to determine the degree or amount of pleasure that a specific action is likely to cause. He called this Hedonic Calculus and it was divided into seven different categories. Bentham based this calculation off of intensity, or the strength of the pleasure, duration or how long the pleasure will last, certainty or how likely it is pleasure will occur, propinquity or how soon the pleasure will occur, fecundity or the likeliness it will be followed by pleasures, purity or probability that feelings of the opposite will occur, and extent or how many people will be affected. I will try to put some of the major failures of the Titanic in to these categories to determine the ethical standing of the engineers responsible for the Titanic. When analyzing this disaster the first thing to consider is the engineer s design of the Titanic. The Titanic was employing many new and innovative designs that were believed to make the Titanic the safest ship ever built at that time. The engineer s of the vessel made claims that the Titanic was unsinkable and that even in the worst possible accident at sea, the ship should have stayed afloat for two to three days. One of the features that lead them to this claim was the 16 watertight compartments in the hull of the ship. The way they were designed allowed for up to four compartments to be breached and they ship would still carry ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Observing An Average College Student Essay Observing an average college student during a lecture is a marvelous thing. Sure, there are the students in the front, attentively taking notes, eagerly soaking in information to be used to pass their next test and nothing more. Gazing over the sea of people, however, one couldn t help but notice the vast majority of people using some sort of digitaltechnology; a sleek new MacBook Pro alternating between Facebook political rants, a fantasy team on the verge of a winless season, and a slideshow of Ten Celebrities You Didn t Know Have Been Arrested . A girl in sweatpants and a tank top who didn t even bother to bring a book bag, navigating several group chats and frantically tapping the spider webbed glass. Some folks will have the next day s homework pulled up, some the PowerPoint slideshow on Chapter 3 Ocean Currents and Tides , even though it s already being projected at the front of the room, and even more won t be paying the slightest bit of attention to neither their Surface Pro or the monotonous droll of the professor, instead wondering how to get that cute guy s number or whether they have enough in their checking account to hit up Chick Fil A after class. The majority of these typical college students, however much or little attention they paid to the lecture, will leave this class confident they have somewhat of a grasp on the material. Many researchers today would beg to differ, however; studies are being performed across the country linking multitasking in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Compare And Contrast Homeless People And The Homeless Have you ever thought of how privileged many of us are? Or what life would be like if everything was taken away from us? As of 2016, more than 169 people were homeless in Jackson, Michigan. This number isn t going down. With Jackson s many homeless inhabitants, there are also over 338 children in the foster care system just in our county alone. When comparing homeless people and foster care children, they are very similar. Both of them do not have a permanent home and both have nothing to hope for in the future. As many of you know, Jackson isn t the largest county in the world. Something has to be done to help these people. We should not rest until everyone is safe and off the streets, whether they are children, adults, veterans, or even the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Most of these kids cannot find a proper home to take care of them or even adopt them in the near future. The only things that they bear are maybe one outfit and a few things that they carry around in a tattered grocery bag. This isn t the child s fault. This isn t the parents fault. This is our fault for not stepping up and taking action when we hear cries of help from these children. Since no one in Jackson County is willing to bring these hurting kids into their homes and help take care of them, they are sent off to boarding schools that are in the northern part of Michigan. Not only are they torn away from the only things they know, but they are also taken away from where they grew up. These kids experience great pain almost everyday of their life. Most of the children think it is their fault. They think that no one wants me or I m not important. These kids feel like they lost the battle to the world that would do anything to tear them apart. These kids feel like they lost hope that they once had and now somehow perished in the wind. These kids feel like they can do it on their own and will never need anyone else s help. Help is just the thing that these overwhelmed children need. They need a roof over their heads, a meal every night on the dining room table, and a family that is always there for them in their darkest ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A description of the scenario on which the research was made This is a place with standard facilities and with good working conditions. The students are here of many ages. The research tries to cover a class 12 13 year s students. The research has taken care of the issues like their life outside the school impact of newspapers and television in their life. It is also noted how the television, magazines effect on their choices (Toloie Eshlaghy et al. 2011). RESEARCH APPROACH The approach has been maintained according to the scenario. The ongoing research was done without letting the students know about it because at this age kids tend to be sensitive. They do not like any eyes observing them critically. This was taken into mind while doing the research. Most of the students were from good background, there was no one from deprived background. So, the research was made taking that into mind. • 10. Gnosticism Essay Gnosticism, which was viewed as a threat to early Christian beliefs can be defined as the thought and practice especially of various cults of late pre Christian and early Christian centuries distinguished by the conviction that matter is evil and that emancipation comes through gnosis (King, p.5). Besides the dictionary s condensed definition summarizing Gnosticism, Gnosticism is a much more complex belief composed of numerous myths defining humans and God and viewed as an ancient Christian heresy. Gnosticism is rather a term invented in the early modern period to aid in defining the boundaries of normative Christianity. Yet, it has been mistakenly come to be thought of as a distinctive Christian heresy or seen as a religion in its own... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One of the most important characteristics is mythopeia. Mythopoeia is, the construction of elaborate myth through which revealed gnosis is transmitted (Birger, p. 14, 17). The Gnostics saw these myths as a divine revelation, which gave more expressions to their beliefs when thought. This also meant that each teacher would tell a story in their own words. There were a handful of teachers who taught Gnosticism. They had many beliefs and teachings where they were seeking to address their ideas and problems. When mercury is released from the sources, it can travel halfway around the world before it ever enters into the waterways and contaminates the fish that we then eat. Through the trade of those fish, people in every continent are at risk for mercury pollution. Newborns are also at risk of mercury pollution due to the consummation of fish by their mothers, thousands of babies are at risk every year of impaired motor skills ( Reduce Mercury Pollution ). In order to reduce the pollutants of mercury we need to implement a policy to clean up sites already contaminated, limit the amounts discharged into the water and provide consumers on tips to reduce their exposure to it. My first step in decreasing the amount of mercury is to focus on the areas that are already contaminated. They would priority since the mercury would have had time to sit and settle and we would want to clean it up before it causes further harm. Some of the sites would be cleaned up under the EPA s superfund policy. One example of a site that is being cleaned up is the Carson River Mercury Site in Nevada. This is the former sites of mills and mining that have contaminated the soil, waterways and fish over a 50 mile stretch. Nevada at one time recommended that limited consumption of fish and duck from the river should be in effect. State and federal actions are being performed in order to excavate and remove the contaminated soils and they were sent to a mineral resource recovery facility. That action has already reduced the amount of exposure during the monitoring period and they plan to add a layer of clean topsoil to reduce the exposure to any mercury soil left behind. They have also worked in sampling 26 different developments for mercury affects and levels. There are two types of nuclear bomb: fission and fusion. What is fission? Well, everything in the world is made up of atoms. Atoms are made up of a nucleus, which consists of a ball of protons and neutrons, and electrons, which orbit the nucleus. Fission is the process by which atoms are hit with neutrons and split into lighter atoms. In this process, the huge amount of binding energy which holds the protons and neutrons of the nucleus together is released, and pieces of the nucleus fly apart with enormous energy called radioactivity. These extra neutrons run into other atoms, causing them to fission and repeat the process. This starts a chain reaction. Every time the number of fissions doubles, it is called a generation. When the number of neutrons produced in one generation of fissions equals the fissions in the next, critical mass is attained. Because some neutrons are lost or absorbed, the chain reaction can only be maintained when there is critical mass. A frightening fact about the fission bomb is that each new generation has as much energy in it as all the generations before it put together. It is dangerous to state people who are different have a problem or disorder. If one group is considered abnormal then more will believe there is something seriously wrong with them. People of short stature often do not have disorders. Short stature is not a problem, it is just a situation, just like those who are naturally taller than most. Because these people are being labeled with disorders, they believe the use of drugs will increase their growth to, what people consider, is a normal height. At a young age, it is hard to tell what size a child will grow to. There are many formulas people have said are accurate in predicting how tall your child will be . . . some of these may have at one time been based upon some scientific ideas, most are only a reasonable guess at best (Steele 1). Although all European countries who showed interest in establishing territories in the Americashad their own reasons for doing so, some countries did a better job executing their colonizing than others. Many poor beggars sought new work as indentured servants, and obtaining land of their own after serving 4 7 years. It was also a gamble, since life expectancy was very low for servants due to being overworked, as well as susceptible to diseases. To many, however, the risk was worth it. In England, there were massive amounts of unemployed workers. Poverty and crime increased dramatically, but by moving to the new colonies the poor received more of a fresh start. In Virginia, the colonists profited from harvesting tobacco, but they were overridden by diseases and did not have a healthy lifestyle. In New England, there was far less death by diseases and had more middle class residents than the poor servants down South. With Puritan leadership, the colonists had a better worth ethic and kinder values than those in Virginia. Alfred Kazin says that the poet s style is arrogant and slap stick and that cummings is the duality of the traditionalist and the clown (155). Others, such as Richard P. His line breaks and technique of separating words is a precise and deliberate method which causes the reader to think. Separating defunct by itself could also mean death (Dilworth 176). Using the word Jesus in a place by itself with a long space, indicating a pause, before and after it, indicate that it is not being used to describe Jesus Christ, but rather as an expression of amazement and awe, common in everyday speech. Cummings, throughout this poem, uses space in order to indicate pauses, much as a comma would do. In this poem he also uses run on and joined words to emphasize description of Buffalo Bill. In line four of the poem cummings wrote watersmooth silver to describe the stallion in line five. Webvan s non traditional operating model was also an issue. The use of non standard pallet configurations was an example of how large suppliers made accommodations for a smaller reseller. It is assumed that Webvan s supplier relations were complicated by its non standard shipping requirements, and the sheer number of vendors the company worked with. Finally, Webvan s systems, though highly automated, were extremely expensive, overly customized (and thus hard to upgrade) and insufficiently funded to support expansion into new markets. SWOT Analysis: Opportunities First, the $650B size of the US grocery market was a major opportunity; only a small percentage of this market would be required for a company to have significant profits. Second, both web purchases and, in particular, online grocery consumer purchases were predicted to increase. The $16.8B in online grocery sales was predicted to represent 1 out of every 5 dollars spent online by 2004 (see figure 1). Third, customer data opportunities were emerging through all online retailers. Webvan s ability to leverage customer purchasing information and its ability to share this data with its suppliers constituted an advantage over traditional grocery competitors. Finally, capital markets in the late 1990s were eagerly funding start up companies. SWOT ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

If the investigation brings forth serious issues, it is reported to a care and protection co ordinator who then urgently calls a familygroup conference. Family group conferences takes time to set up. In a serious case, the police or Social Welfare can get permission from the Family court to produce a warrant that allows them to remove the children (in this case the twins) from their parents or caregivers. He asserts that reproduction has now become part of the process in art because of mediums like filmand photography, however their reliance on technology creates less authenticity among art forms due to less of the original art still be connected to the piece. While the authenticity starts to decrease, the number of people who are able to individually experience the art increases because of technologies that are able to mass produce art. This creates his ideas of auras, which are the unique connection between the object of art being experienced and the person experiencing it. However, these objects that are desired to be experienced are sometimes only because of what Benjamin refers to as the ritual they have, or history. Benjamin claims that technology separates itself from this idea, creating a medium where reproduction is part of the underlying goal for the work to be successful. This success creates the reception Benjamin breaks down into two different values: cult value and exhibition value. Exhibition value he describes as what the art is valued at when in a public setting, however cult value is the value assigned to art that is not available for the general public to see.
