Mouse Trap Car
The purpose of this laboratory experiment is to construct a mousetrap vehicle. The vehicle needed to
go travel five meters. My partner and I build a mousetrap car that obtain a two axle vehicle with four
CDs making the produce optimum acceleration and travel.
We researched information from. Before I didn t know what was a mousetrap car was and how it was
used. I learned that the whole idea how to build a mousetrap car. Also, I learned that velocity is really
important on how to build a mousetrap car. Most importantly I learned that it is hard to draw any
accurate conclusions besides the fact that good construction is required for a good vehicle. My partner
and I was first designed is the tires are CD s because we thought help the car go faster.

Reflection Paper On Cultural Experience
For my cultural experience, I decided to connect with my roots. Even though I am Hispanic American,
my parents never truly exposed me to my Mexican culture. This assignment seemed like the perfect
opportunity to connect with elements of my heritage.
My parents were born and raised in downtown Joliet, so I went to them to ask them where the best
place would be to go find those types of experiences. They told me that the East side of Joliet would
be my best chance of experiencing a new cultural experience.
The following day, I decided to take a trip to this region. As I came closer to approaching the East
side, I noticed that the surroundings around me started changing quite drastically. A great percentage
of signs posted on billboards and businesses were written in Spanish. No English on the signs was
visible anywhere either. I also noticed that great amount of businesses that were being run by Hispanic
men. Considerably much greater than any businesses located in my neighborhood. I decided to stop at
a small corner store located right next to Joliet Central high school. The store was called
Supermercado Joliet . When I walked inside, I noticed that many of the products being sold weren t
the everyday product that I was used to seeing being sold in a Walmart or Jewel Osco in my
neighborhood. Many labels on the products sold were completely foreign to me. A middle aged man
behind the cash register noticed me glimpsing at the products and he approached me asking me

Compare And Contrast George And Lennie In Of Mice And Men
Of Mice and Men is a novella written by John Steinbeck in 1937. Steinbeck gave us in this story a
vivid view of the style of life after the world crisis in ninety twenty nine; People were trying to survive
by working in ranches. At the time, even Steinbeck himself was a traveler working in ranches. The
story in this novella is about two characters who travel together, which was uncommon at the time.
George and Lennie were totally opposites in character and their size of body and their capacity of
mind. George was small and smart, while Lennie was huge and a sort of mind retarded. Both of them
were runaways, because of Lennie who always causes them troubles wherever they find work. From
their first day in the new ranch, they started to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When he realized that there is no solution, and Lennie is going to be lynched in any case, he decided
to take the burden onto him and do it himself. George decided to do it by himself, because his way
was more merciful and quieter than lynching; he went before the guys to Lennie and showed him that
he is not angry about him this time; he even narrates to him his favorite story, about them having a
ranch full of rabbits and animals, after he finishes the story he told Lennie that he loves him and he put
the gun behind Lennie s head and shot him dead quietly while Lennie was happy. George then decided
to kill him and save him from his miserable

Systems Theory Application And System Theory
Systems Theory Application Organizations can be thought of as a system. Systems are defined as a
collection of independent components which are interrelated and work together to accomplish goals. A
system can be an organization as a whole, departments within the organization, and groups within the
organization or processes (Hayajneh, 2007). Systems can be either an open system or a closed system.
An open system has characteristics of interacting with the environment (Encyclopedia of
Management, 2006). The purpose of this paper is to give a description of a department within a known
health care organization using system theory terminology. The Nursing Services Delivery Theory
(NSDT) will be the theory of focus for this paper. A description of a problem within a specific
department will be identified using an open system approach. Using the NSDT model, the problem s
positioning within the model will be explained. An explanation of how the problem will be addressed
along with the desired outcome and goals that will facilitate the outcome. New procedures will be
identified and how the proposed resolution will follow the organization s mission and values,
improving the culture and climate of the department. Department Description The department of focus
is the Emergency Department (ED) in a Ministry Health System Hospital located in Wisconsin. The
ED is an open system as it continually interacts with the environment. In a contemporary healthcare
system, the

The Comparisons Of Hurricane Katrina
This government will learn the lessons of Hurricane Katrina. We are going to review every action and
make necessary changes so that we are better prepared for any challenge of nature, or act of evil men,
that could threaten our people . President George W. Bush, September 15, 2005
On august 29th, 2005, the United States gulf coast was struck by a category 5 hurricane. Hurricane
Katrina shined a light on the need for a military response plan to domestic natural disasters
(Placeholder4). The road to recovery in the gulf started out rough to say the least because there were
obstacles ranging from lack of local resources to political differences between state and local
government.
Regional Commands operating the Gulf Coast
The governors of the states of Florida, Alabama, Mississippi and Louisiana activated National Guard
Bureau (NGB) as well as Kansas, Texas and California for support (Placeholder4) (Placeholder5)
(Placeholder6). The White House declared a state of emergency under the Stafford Act and enabled
NORTHCOM to deploy available active duty and reserve troops (Placeholder3). Joint Task Force
(JTF) Poncetrain, which was later renamed JTF Katrina, had been stood up in response to the state of
emergency. This enabled a single command structure for military forces even though efforts crossed
state and political boundaries.
Military roles in responding to this natural disaster
The Army Corps of Engineers (COE) began their own operations with a three pronged

Turing, Searle, and Artificial Intelligence
The conditions of the present scenario are as follows: a machine, Siri*, capable of passing the Turing
test, is being insulted by a 10 year old boy, whose mother is questioning the appropriateness of
punishing him for his behavior. We cannot answer the mother s question without speculating as to
what A.M. Turing and John Searle, two 20th century philosophers whose views on artificial
intelligence are starkly contrasting, would say about this predicament. Furthermore, we must provide
fair and balanced consideration for both theorists viewpoints because, ultimately, neither side can be
correct in this scenario. But before we compare hypothetical opinions, we must establish operant
definitions for all parties involved. The characters in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The answer is no because we cannot accurately determine, from the given information, whether Siri*
understands what she is saying on a deep, emotional level, one requirement for personhood that both
Turing and Searle deem necessary (Searle; Turing). We have no method of measuring Siri* s level of
understanding outside of the Turing test, which Searle rejects as an accurate measurement of linguistic
understanding. And again, he also rejects the idea that any electronic machine can possess such
understanding whatsoever, so Siri* s response is essentially meaningless. Part D: Answering to Amy
In response to Amy s initial question, it would be unwise to immediately present either Turing s or
Searle s answer as a correct response. Similarly, it would be unwise to declare a winning philosophy in
this scenario, as the correct philosophy depends on the correct judging criteria, which we lack. Clearly,
if Siri* is a person, or judged to be a person based on certain criteria, then Turing is correct in his
assessment; Amy should punish her child. If Siri* is not a person, then Searle is correct, and Amy
would not have significant reason for punishment. But in this scenario, no judgment criteria are
explicitly being applied, nor is one school of thought clearly more appropriate than the other.
Therefore, our only hope of declaring which of the two theories is correct in this scenario, thereby
correctly answering Amy s initial question, is to hypothesize judging

Personal Reflective and Goal Setting Strategies
Globalisation allows individuals, groups, corporations, and countries to reach around the world
farther, faster, more deeply, and more cheaply than ever before. Most large local companies regard
globalisation as opportunity, thereby exploring overseas markets for maximum market share and
optimum business strategies. However, managers would face a series of challenges caused by
leadership models, cultural backgrounds, political and economic risks, HR management, etc. To study
multinational management skills is very useful for my future career. In this essay, I will set goals for
this subject, identify the skills I have honed and need to improve, and explain my strategies for

Strategy for Short term Goal In order to improve skill of actively communication for achieving short
term goal, I plan to do overview of every case, search related background about cases, and write down
my thoughts and burning questions before case discussion with groupmates. Sufficient preparation
could help me to delivery my ideas in form of accuracy and honesty, so that I can efficiently
communicate and give supportive feedback in the discussion. Furthermore, through preparing in
advance and actively communicating, group members could get right orientation of case and then
clearly define key problems. In addition, there are three aspects of action plan for improving
teamwork skill. Firstly, I will share my information and experience as more as possible. Active
participation and contribution would bring impetus to work together. Secondly, when a team gets
together to solve a case, we would have to work through different opinions, methods, and
perspectives. I would cooperate with other members to dig out clues from different voices and then
identify useful data. Lastly, I would not restrict myself to one solution. In contrast, I would view all
alternatives with critical thinking, and then make a decision through group discussion.

The Confederate Flag And The Flag
Recently, quite a debate has emanated regarding the Confederate Flag. This debate has been taken
from a simple ember to an all out wildfire, spreading across America, by events in recent months like
the Charleston African American church shooting and the subsequent removal of the flag from the
South Caroline State Capitol. This debate has deep geographic ties from all the way back to the Civil
War and what the flag stood for then and what the flag has stood for since. Each side of the debate has
determined their position based on their collective memory of the flag. Whereas, one side of the
argument sees the flying of the flag as a symbol of racism and hatred, the other sees the flying of the
flag as preserving southern heritage with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The true history behind this flag varies quite a bit from the collective memory of the flag that is used
to support arguments in the debate. One of the most important characteristics of the flag that has bee
lost in its long history is the fact that the flag that many say represents the Confederacy and its ties in
southern history is not really a symbol of the Confederate States of America at all. The Confederate
States of American went through three different flags during the time of their existence. None of
which were the flag that we know so well today, this flag instead was flown by General Robert E. Lee
as a battle flag of his Northern Virginian army unit. This was the only means in which this flag had
any ties with the Confederacy, other than being seen in the upper left hand corner of their second and
third flag. Also, General Lee himself left the flag behind him after his side lost the war saying I think
it wiser moreover not to keep open the sores of war, in a letter declining an invitation to the
Gettysburg Battlefield Memorial Association. This begins to invoke the question of whether or not the
heritage argument is justified or not as the General of the Confederate Army cut his ties with the flag
after losing the war.
Another argument made by many flag supporters is that the Confederate battle flag is a historic banner
that embodies the noble service and

Practitioners Of Capoeira
Capoeira is a Brazilian cultural expression that will be analyzed through the lens of religious origins,
though the power of the government. African slaves were forced to adopt the Portuguese language and
the Catholic religion. Capoeira mixes popular culture, music, and martial arts. It was developed in
Brazil, mainly by descendants of African slaves, and it is characterized by the use of primarily kicks,
head butting, kneeing, elbowing, and acrobatics in the ground or air (De Miranda). One feature that
distinguishes Capoeira from other martial arts is its dance movements. Practitioners of Capoeira not
only learn how to fight and play, but also learn how to play the typical instruments and singing. A

The Portuguese settlers established large farms, whose manpower was primarily slave. The slave,
living in humiliating and inhumane conditions, was forced to work to exhaustion, often suffering
punishment and physical punishment. Despite being outnumbered, the lack of weapons, applicable
law, the discrepancy between slaves from rival ethnic groups and the complete ignorance of the land
in which they were discouraged (De Miranda) slaves to rebel. In this environment, it began to dawn
Capoeira. More than a combat technique has emerged as a hope for freedom and survival, a tool for
the fugitive black, totally unequipped, could survive the hostile environment and face the hunting of
bush captains, always armed and on horseback. It didn t take long for runaway slave groups to begin
to establish settlements in remote areas of the colony, known as quilombos. Initially simple
settlements, some quilombos evolved to attract more runaway slaves, indigenous or even Europeans
fleeing the law or Catholic religious repression, to become truly independent multiethnic

Tim Draper s Business Analysis
As one recent article on the West Valley database noted, venture capitalist investor, Tim Draper, is
proposing a voter initiative on Congress to split California into 6 states. Today, researchers have been
observing areas of California that place either greater or lesser importance on decisions about laws,
taxes, and public policy, thus some counties are lacking in affordable housing and quality
infrastructure. The fact that our state lies between the top ten worst governments to do business with
was sufficient reason for Tim Draper s plan to balance California s resources by dividing it into 6
sovereign states. According to Draper, since California demonstrates many subjects of interest
different from other states, it could be a solution to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At that level of organization, each state can join the discussion for creating their own laws, electing
new officials, and focus upon serious priorities such as environmental concerns and helping people
understand the water crisis. For instance, Todd Fitchett s position on Fresno and Tulare counties most
demanding issue of the year, record high water prices, is distrustful of California s current economic
policy. His article, Time for a Fresh Approach to Helping People Under the Water Crisis , argues that
rising water prices carries over to consumers paying higher prices for produce, tree nuts, and dairy,
therefore all of these commodities have serious potential to be further increased. In making an
argument for dividing California into 6 states, that movement of unity primarily based on being apart
of a new state will be opportunistic for people to save more water, or else millions of Americans will

Combating Childhood Obesity And Its Effects
Combatting Childhood Obesity
Tanema Foster
University of Missouri Kansas City
May 4, 2016
In today s society it is easy to get caught up into living a sedentary and unhealthy lifestyle. With new
technologies, social media, etc, people are choosing to opt out of doing much active work and are
choosing to do things from the comfort of their own bed or couch. Many people choose to enjoy the
luxuries of online shopping, banking, mail, socializing, ordering food, games, and even dating!
Additionally, United States citizens have fully embraced the fast food industry for some of the same
reasons. It s much easier and cheaper than buying groceries all of the time, so many families have
adapted fast food to be the default choice for their everyday meals. Much of fast food is very
unhealthy; full of saturated fat and sugars that can induce fatal diseases and illnesses. So although we
are advancing as a nation when it comes to conventional living and technology, we are also seeing a
dramatic decline in the amount of people who are living and leading healthy lifestyles and thus an
increase in obesity. Diseases such as obesity can be prevented by simply making the right health
choices. But what about those who don t have a choice? What about the children? Today I m going to
go in to depth about childhood obesity, what it is, why it is concerning and what is being done about it.
As of 2010, nearly 35 percent of children and adolescents aged 6 to 19 are overweight and

The Economic Effects of Mega-Events in Brazil
A mega event can be broadly defined in terms of Volume, e.g. a certain minimum number of visitors
attracted over a period of time; Value, e.g. a certain minimum amount of revenue generated in a
locality over a period of time or minimum capital cost of constructing facilities and in terms of
psychological effect, e.g. the worldwide reputation of the event generates must see feelings in
potential tourists. It is a proven fact that successfully organizing major mega sports events will bring
tremendous tangible and intangible value for the host city and the state.
Can sports mega events help Brazil finally reach its economic goals?
The Brazilian government has introduced a program that accentuates myriad of infrastructure projects
in transportation, ports, electricity, sewage treatment plants and other facilities, because for decades
the deficiency in infrastructure has haltered Brazil s economy. Low levels of investment continue to be
a key explanatory variable hindering medium term growth in Brazil, which is evident from low
investment to GDP (below 20%), compared to peer sovereigns (BRICS) in spite of increased
investment in last decade.
Keeping the current macroeconomic position of Brazil in context, the 2014 FIFA World Cup the 2016
Olympic games together have brought major challenges and opportunities, further enhancing Brazil s
exposure to the global economic arena. There has been an unwanted disbelief that whether Brazil can
handle these mega events and hence

Painting Portraiture In The Whirlwind By Paul Wright
Painting portraiture will become obsolete when the time arrives that photographers will have learned
something about portraiture in its deeper sense... Alfred Stieglitz. Keeping a memory of someone was
not easy during the Enlightment era as it is today. Individuals now keep thousands of images and
photographs for important and unimportant events to mark them, while the expenses of having a
portrait painting during early ages was sometimes unaffordable. However, painting portraiture did not
become obsolete even with the immerse use of photography. Paul Wright a contemporary artist who
painted the Whirlwind has proved Stieglitz wrong as portrait paintings still have their significance, but
with a different context and meaning than those of the early ages. Giovanni Arnoflini and his Bride for

The painting is still being interpreted differently, however one of the interpretations is that the portrait
is painted to keep a memory of the wife since many wives died after giving birth at the time. The wife
is thought to be pregnant and so a memory of the wife with her husband seemed to be necessary. The
couples were of an upper middle class which were able to afford to pay the artist for a portrait and the
details of the era were also described in the painting. The clothing, the furniture, religious figures that
are present in the mirror for instance give an idea of the important details considered at that ear. Jan
van Eyck in other words, used the portrait to describe the couples, to keep a memory of them, and
described significant details of that era. He visualized how an upper class family usually is in terms of
their houses and clothing. Moreover, the artist uses lightening and shades to emphasize more on the
painting and to make it as real as

Research Study On Mesenchymal Stem Cells
Mesenchymal stem cells (MSC) are fibroblast like structural cells that are found in bone marrow,
skeletal muscle, and other connective tissues. MSC derived from bone marrow (BM) have been shown
to be self renewing and are capable of differentiation into a variety of stromal cell types including
bone forming osteoblasts, fat storing adipocytes, and neurons. Another trait exhibited by BM MSC is
their supportive role in hematopoiesis (blood genesis). This behavior has been utilized to enhance
efficacy of co transplantation of hematopoietic stem cells (HSC). BM MSC are gathered using painful
procedures in which penetrating bone to access the marrow. This article investigates the umbilical
cord (UC) as a source of MSC and compares the cells gathered in this manner with BM MSC.
Previous methods for obtaining UC MSC involved extracting the cells from the single vein found on
the umbilical cord. This method was met with 30% success with this group. A new method involving
the use of the whole cord was created and attempted. This method was then compared to the
traditional practice to isolate MSC, through bone marrow aspiration. The research group did this by
dicing the cord into 1 2 mm fragments and enzymatically digesting said fragments in collagenase and
trypsin. The cell suspension was then filtered and cultured in cell culture flasks. Cultures were split
when concentrations increased and were replated at a lower concentration. Bone marrow aspirate from

Jack Russell Terrier Essay
PARSON RUSSELL TERRIER (JACK RUSSELL TERRIER)
ORIGIN AND HISTORY
This breed was developed in England in the mid 1800s by a clergyman, Reverend John Russell. Rev.
Russell was an avid enthusiast of fox hunting and wanted to develop a dog that would go to ground
after the fox and flush it from its hole so the hunt could continue. Size was of the utmost importance to
Rev. Russell as the dog had to keep up with the foxhounds. The ideal height of his terriers at the
shoulders was 15 . After Rev. Russell s death, a short legged, long bodied dog with prick ears and a
smooth coat came to be known as the Jack Russell terrier and it was that dog that was brought to
America. In 1990 the breed was established in England as the Parson Jack Russell terrier and adopted
the standard desired by Rev. Russell of a muscular, narrow chested dog, 12 15 inches in height.
In 1985, the Jack Russell Terrier Breeders Association was formed to re establish the original type

Reflection About Deaf Culture
At the age of 2, I lost my hearing in Pakistan from a disease called meningitis. When I was 4, my
family and I to came to America to explore hearing options. Before coming to America, I had no
formal communication, I couldn t speak or sign. My mom also wanted me to be a part of the hearing
culture because I needed to learn English and Urdu so I can communicate with family members. My
mom worked with our doctor and I received the cochlear implant. It was so I could communicate in
the hearing world and be able to talk and hear. After I got my surgery, I began school and was isolated
between hearing and deaf kids. My hearing loss was leaning towards the deaf culture but I wanted to
stay with the hearing culture and I did. In the deaf culture, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Pakistani culture is heavily influenced by the religion. In our culture, we don t and are not
allowed to drink alcohol, but drinking alcohol is a custom in America. Many of the different cultures
and religions in the USA have celebrations and customs with alcohol. My family and I haven t been
enslaved from anyone to drink alcohol as other respect our culture as well. Muslim Pakistani s avoid
environments in which alcohol is served due to this restriction. However, when one must be present
where alcohol is served they do not order or drink alcohol but instead order another beverage.
Another way that our culture differs with the American culture, is that in our culture females must
cover their entire body and hair. But in the American culture people don t wear as much clothing as
our culture does. Our culture and the American culture both have to compromise and accept each other
as it is part of the diverse American.
In Pakistani culture, people usually live in the same house for generations. This means that we have
neighbors that stay at the same house for generations as well. Because of this we become very close
and attached with our neighbors. We take care and help our neighbors like family. But in America,
people are constantly moving and although we know our neighbors we don t have the same
connection and don t get a chance to be as close. Unfortunately, we cannot stop people from moving

Pros And Cons Of Memory Formation
FIVE ARTICLES

Hunter, P. (2008). Ancient rules of memory. The molecules and mechanisms of memory evolved long
before their modern use in the brain. EMBO Reports, 9(2), 124 126.
doi.org.ezproxy.lib.monash.edu.au/10.1038/sj.embor.2008.5
Summary:
The primary purpose of this article is to expound on how memory is formed and maintained in the
human brain. The author follows the argument of scientific researchers on the assumption that
memory formation in the brains of lower forms of organisms can be compared to that of humans and
the basic biological mechanism is the same for both species. However, despite this similarity, the
author notes that the memories formed are very different because of the vast number of neurons and ...

A short background on the initial search for types of memory is provided to elucidate the distinction
between the kinds of memory. Clinical studies on memory are used to describe, compare and
differentiate the three kinds of memory from a psychological point of view. Short term memory is
described as having a short duration of occurrence and with a restricted capacity that can readily be
accessed. Working memory is argued to be more than the short term memory because it involves other
processes including long term memory, however, there are those who opine it is the same as short term
memory. With regards to long term memory, the author describes it as a large storage of knowledge
with an unlimited capacity. The author concludes that short term and long term memory differ
primarily in terms of capacity and retention time, but, the factor of retention time is still controversial.
With regards to short term and working memory, their difference or similarity depends on how one
defines them.
Critique:
This article is well written and has reliable sources of information that are well cited and span a long
period of time. The author uses multiple points of view based on his references to arrive at a
conclusion. However, the comparison between short term and long term memory is wanting and

TYPE A PROJECT MSF is a neutral and impartial humanitarian organization that aims first and
foremost to provide high quality medical care to the people who need it the most. It does not promote
the agenda of any country, political party, or religious faith, and, as such, endeavors to communicate
its history, background, and capabilities to all parties in a given situation so that it may gain the
necessary access to populations in need..On any given day, more than 30,000 doctors, nurses,
logisticians, water and sanitation experts, administrators, and other qualified professionals working
with MSF can be found providing medical care around the world..In 2012, MSF medical teams carried
out more than 8.3 million outpatient consultations; delivered more than 185,000 babies; treated more
than 1.6 million people for malaria; treated nearly 350,000 severely and moderately malnourished
children; provided some 284,000 people living with HIV/AIDS with antiretroviral therapy; conducted
more than 78,000 surgeries, and vaccinated 690,000 against measles and 496,000 against meningitis

Why OB GYN are at risk of lawsuit in USA Women s health specialists remains top in the medical
profession. However, OB GYN practitioners are at a high risk of malpractice lawsuits. In fact, a study
carried out by Medscape indicate that in every 4000 primary care physicians, more than half of them
have found themselves in one or more malpractice cases in their career. The study further shows that
one third of the cases were either due to wrongful accusations or wrong diagnoses with another one
third due to injuries caused during treatment. Others include wrongly documenting instructions that
the patient is supposed to treat, wrong medical prescriptions and failure to attend to patients. OB

team performing the surgery has all they need in the room to avoid frequent opening of the doors.
When operating room doors are frequently opened, it makes it difficult for ventilation systems to keep

The other thing they can do is to always stay ahead of the game with the latest training and

that will help reduce the earlier mentioned risks. They should also not shy away from taking the OB
GYN board review. Some of these lawsuits are pretty bad that it forces some to stop their practices or
simply move to another state to continue with their work. About 12% of Ob GYNs have actually been
found to leave this to become salaried employees which is quite sad. What is clear though is that as
the number decreases, patients in need of their attention end up suffering more. To avoid these matters
from reaching such extreme points, OB GYNs should just follow the above steps to help them stay on

Field Observation
Field Notes: Observation 1 On January 29, a Friday, I observed as five student workers ate their lunch
around the UCI Athletics compound area. It was exactly 12:15 PM, when the student workers marched
into the area and grabbed their lunches. These are my co workers, so I did not have to do much to
blend in. However, I did want to act natural, so I drank from a bottle of water and sat in a chair in the
corner of the compound. They were all eating at the same time, because they only had a short time
until they had to get back to work. The first person I observed pulled his lunch out of an orange sack,
in which he carried all of his items to work. He had a variety of items he brought to snack one. He

I could tell that he had made his lunch himself. This person was wearing all black, and like many of
the other students, he was carrying his lunch in his backpack. He kept most of his lunch in his
backpack, and only took out what he was about to eat. The first item he took out to eat, was a home
made sandwich. Upon my observation, it was hard to actually tell everything that was in his sandwich.
From what I could actually view, he had turkey, cheese, tomato, and a jalapeno in his sandwich. The
jalapeno was especially surprising, and his lunch struck me as unique. In addition to this sandwich, he
had fruit snacks and a bottle of water. Moving to another individual, this person sat quietly on a
bucket, while eating a small bag of pumpkin seeds. This does not really qualify as lunch, but it is a
snack. Of all the students eating in the compound area, his lunch was the smallest. Finally, the last
person I observed in the area, was a student eating another sandwich. All he was eating was a
sandwich, and had no water or any other snacks. In his sandwich, all that appeared to be in it was
turkey and cheese. It was a simple sandwich, but the student did manage to toast the bread. This
student was near me, so when the others left and were walking out of the compound, I asked him if I

Character Analysis In Lord Of The Flies
Moliere s saying that, A wise man is superior to any insults which can be put upon him, and the best
reply to unseemingly behavior is patience and moderation. , accurately represents Piggy s situation
from Lord of the Flies. Throughout the story, Piggy, though disparaged, still stayed strong and kept
contributing his thoughts and ideas to the society until the time of his death. With Piggy s death, the
intelligence of the tribe on the island had come to an end as well. When his intelligence had
disappeared, so had the remains of their civilization. Chaos broke out and everyone was restless. The
loss of Piggy and his intellect, also resulted in the downfall of the society.
I don t care what they call me, [Piggy] said confidentially, so long as they don t call me what they used
to call me at school. Ralph was faintly interested. What was that? The fat boy glanced over his
shoulder, then leaned toward Ralph. He whispered. They used to call me Piggy. (11) Here, one can see
that Piggy s real name is not actually Piggy, but is stuck with such a horrid name due to his looks. His
body size made caused the children around him to make fun of him and from then on, the name stuck
with him till his very last moments. On this new island with new faces, Piggy s suffering starts off
with this horrid name. From the moment Ralph tells the other boys about Piggy s name, the boys
immediately start to treat Piggy as a different person. These boys realize that on such an island with

Equality In The 1860 s
Due to the heightening tensions within the ideas of equality, a fire was ignited and a rebellion had
begun. Many argued about the inequality of women and slaves. The arguments came from the
disproportion in wealth, the beliefs from christianity and the changing ideas of republicanism. These
ideas and thoughts have been spread through many public speakers and writers throughout the 1840 s
1860 s. These speakers included: Frederick Douglass, David Walker, Lucy Stone, Lucretia Mott, the
authors of Mechanics Union Preamble and the Ten Hour Circular. All of these authors ideas curved
together at a crucial time in history. The activists of women s rights were pushing for equality.

The workers had began to rise up; this event seemed to be the final piece to push society together. It
was shown that every citizen yearned for their slice of equality and freedom. The authors of
Mechanics Union Preamble had started the first pretion to raise workers wages, regain the respect of
craftsmen embedded in the desensitization from the Market Revolution and obtain equality for all
manual laborers. The workers wages were below a sustainable lifestyle, they were unable to support
their families or buy the clothes they produced. The low pay came from the business owners taking a
large portion of the profits to live in luxury. This separation between luxury and poor started a shift in
republican values. The shift caused a feeling of disconnect and inequality in all of the citizens builded
from the advancement of technology. When taxes were implemented, the price of travel and food
grew. The business owners pockets grew but the worker never received a pay raise. This large divide
along side hours of working created tired and unhappy citizens. It also disconnected the workers from
their families from long days and exhaustion. The Ten Hour circular petitioned in the want of ten hour
days for happiness and higher quality products. Except the business owners had begun to slander
works; saying that more free time will allow their workers to become drunkards and

Color Imagery In We By Yevgeny Zamyatin
The Russian art theorist Wassily Kandinsky once said that Color is a power which directly influences
the soul. In other words, what Kandinsky said means that colors can be used to evoque very different
types of emotions and ideas. Colors always have a deeper meaning than what they are actually used
for, no matter if it is used in art or in literature. The classical dystopian novel We, which was published
in 1924 by Yevgeny Zamyatin, is a great example of a work of literature that uses color imagery. The
dystopia within this book, United State is set 200 years in the future, in a totalitarian world that has
total control over their citizens lives, who are called numbers. The readers get to know this society
through the perspective of D 503, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Throughout the whole novel, Zamyatin uses the color yellow to symbolize complexity and rebellion,
which are qualities from the primitive and ancient world, that United State tries to suppress. One of
the main ways Zamyatin uses this color is in connection to I 330, who is the second main female
character that is introduced into the book and D 503 s first love interest. The first time I 330 s
association with yellow appeared in this story is in Record Six, when D 503 visited I 330 for the first
time at the Ancient House, the only building in the entire society that is not made out of glass. In this
scene, I 330 went to a room and came out dressed in short, bright yellowish dress, black hat, black
stockings (28). The bright yellow dress described in this scene is a relic from ancient times, before the
Green Wall was built and two hundred year war occured. Seeing I 330 in this attire definitely made a
very big impression on him because it was the first time ever that D 503 personally interacted with the
primitive world. This interaction with her had such a deep effect on D 503 that he even sees and
mentions the color yellow, when I 330 is not around, mostly when he feels he is doing something
against the state. I 330 is the only character that takes on different shades of the color yellow. As
portrayed in Record Seventeen, while D 503 searched for I 330 in the Ancient House, he fell into one
of its mystery corridor and he found himself with the doctor that had previously given him a letter that
excused him from work. While waiting for I 330 he recalled the familiar saffron yellow silk, the smile
bite, the eyes with their curtains drawn (93). This description shows another dress from the ancient
world in the same color as the first, but in a darker shade. The fact that yellow is one of the only color
that takes on different shades means that it is complex, and that there are more dimensions to it.

Emergency Surgery Is Caused By Weak Blood Vessels That...
Brain aneurysms are caused by weak blood vessels that balloon and fill with blood which can fatally
rupture. Once an aneurysm has ruptured, emergency surgery is needed to prevent the patient from
suffering a subarachnoid hemorrhage, a fatal type of stroke. The insertion of a detachable embolic coil
can prevent rupturing of aneurysms and the need for emergency surgery. A technical study was
conducted which used an experimental model constructed in the necks of swine to simulate a specific
type of brain aneurysm (1). A combination of stents and Guglielmi Detachable Coils were then
inserted to inhibit the fatal bleeding into the brain. This research concluded that the Guglielmi

Once this wire to correctly inserted within the aneurysm, a 1 mA current is exerted on the delivery
wire. The current is meant to dissolve the steel delivery wire close to the platinum coil. This process is
done by electrolysis so simultaneously the positively charged platinum will attract the negatively
charged red and white blood cells, and platelets which causes intra aneurysmal thrombosis. If
thrombosis does not happen immediately, coils also most likely enforce critical protection against re
hemorrhage by reducing blood pulsations inside the aneurysm and sealing the weak portion of the
blood vessel s wall. Eventually thrombus will build within the aneurysm and the aneurysm is excluded
from the parent blood vessel by a layer of connective tissue. This has been successfully demonstrated
in experimental dog models that were effective in producing thrombosis of the aneurysm and suggest
that the design is useful in the endovascular treatment of aneurysms (2). Once this electrolysis process
has occurred, the delivery wire can be taken out, leaving the the coil in the proper position. Now an
additional coil can be inserted into the aneurysm and this process can be repeated until the aneurysm is
densely filled with the coils to prevent it from rupturing. The coils are constructed from platinum alloy
wire that is made into the primary coil first, and then formed

The alloys were also plotted along with the elements and its orientations. Here, the alloys were
clustered by K means clustering method to classify the alloys into different clusters. Alloys that
belong to the same cluster have the same symbol. Few best alloys mentioned in Table 2 were plotted
in the figure. In these figures, variables (elements) were plotted as arrows. The arrows represent the
relative contribution of the original variables to the variance along the PCs. In these figures, the longer
the arrows, the stronger are their contributions. Additionally, an arrow orthogonal to a certain PC has a
null effect on that PC while an arrow that is collinear to a certain PC contribute only to that certain

Cultural Impact On Cross-Cultural Communication
Introduction
When a company starts to do business in a foreign country, there are often many business practices
that are different and difficult to understand. Cross cultural communication refers to communication
conducted by people from different ethnic, social or gendered backgrounds, that is, communication
between people who do not share the common linguistic or cultural values. Through identifying some
most important influential factors in cross cultural communication, the paper points out some steps
and sugestions which can be use to make a successful meeting between an Australian young business
women and a traditional Japanese manager and discusses how those factors can lead to cross cultural
communication failures. After that, it provides solutions for main types of cross cultural
communication breakdown and strategies for enhancing effective communication. Finally, the paper
ends with a restatement of the main points, which is also the conclusion part.
Influential factors on cross cultural communication
Socio cultural influence
An important factor which also influences cross cultural communication is the socio cultural effect.
From the meaning of culture mentioned above, it is not difficult to see that socio cultural influence is
crucial to a successful cross cultural communication. Gumperz (2002) once wrote that ...socio cultural
assumptions concerning role and status relationships as well as socialvalues associated with various
message components also play an

For all of the tests conducted, the same apparatus was used, and the sample materials in the system
were not altered between any of the tests. Seeing as the same apparatus was used for all tests, the inner
chamber diameter of 2 inches remained constant for all tests. Additionally, the apparatus was purged
with nitrogen immediately before the start of each trial to ensure that diffusion did not begin before
the start of the timer. The information that was recorded for each test included the elapsed time, the
weight of the condenser both before and after collecting the vapors, and the distance from the point of
collection to the gas liquid interface. In addition, the room temperature and pressure was recorded
each day due to the role of these measurements in calculating the predicted values. For the testing of
acetone, data was gathered at half hour intervals ranging from 30 minutes to 90 minutes. During these
trials, the room temperature was recorded at 22.5℃ and the room pressure was 29.18 inches Hg. Raw

Community Corrections Program Analysis
In 1985, The Community Corrections Program was established by lawmakers (TDOC, n.d.). By
reserving confinement for violent offenders, community based alternatives allowed sentencing of non
violent felonies to escape imprisonment. The purpose of the program was to reduce the chance of
reoccurring criminal behavior while executing community safety. The Community Corrections
Program allowed taxpayers revenue to be redirected from the costly costs of confinement for offenders
that were non violent. The state agreed with qualified private agencies and local governments to
contract a range of front end community based supervision and resource services for eligible offenders

Crime And Punishment
Chose a character who might on the basis of the character s actions alone be considered evil or
immoral. Explain both how and why the presentation of the character makes us react more
sympathetically than we otherwise might.
In Dostoyevsky s Crime and Punishment, the character of Raskolnikov is one who may be considered
evil or immoral for his actions, however his portrayal by the author is one that instills sympathy in the
reader for the character due to his motives and personal, internal consequences he suffers for his crime
of murder. There is considerable evidence supporting the view that Raskolnikov wants his theory
surrounding the murder to be proven wrong, to get caught, and to be punished. This tells the reader

Then he forgets to get rid of his hat, which can be easily identified as it draws attention to him. When
he remembers the mistake, he does nothing to remedy this, simply leaving the hat on. Immediately
following the murder, Raskolnikov realizes amp;quot;...how many obstacles there still remained for
him to surmount. amp;quot;, and amp;quot;...the horror of what he had done. amp;quot; (63) This
shows the beginning of Raskolnikov s mental weakness, and also reinforces his true intentions for the
crime. The attempts time and again by Raskolnikov to sabotage his own plans display a side of him
that is far from evil. He is calculating, but not in the sense that he is trying to get away with the perfect
murder. He is instead trying to commit the perfect failure.
amp;#9;Raskolnikov presents evidence of his true mental state, and that he wants to be exposed before
his peers for the good of society, which allows the reader to see him not as evil, but terribly misguided
as a tainted product of the world he has been forced in to. First, he forgets to lock the door and is
forced to kill another woman who walks in unexpectedly during his crime. Next, with the door still

traces of blood, all seemingly in the unconscious hope that someone will walk in on him. So

Math, The Cultural World Is One Country, By David Hilbert
Mathematics knows no races or geographic boundaries for mathematics, the cultural world is one
country , David Hilbert. David Hilbert was a Muslim scholar, he meant that math and the ability to
learn math is for everyone. Today there are over 100 different kinds of Muslim innovations. Two
categories of innovations are math and medicine. But the three most influential Muslim innovations
that affected our world today are healthcare, math, and medicine. Although some may say though that
hospitals are better than medicine because of their health benefits. That is because hospitals may offer
more treatment that may be better and more reliable than medicine. Although that may be the truth for
some people, medicine can actually be as great as hospitals for a lower price. That is because surgical
procedures took more time and had a larger risk of death so it cost more than medicine. Back then in
the early 10th century, an Arab scholar first treated illnesses with his medical remedies. This proves
that medicine was widely available and reliable. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Math actually does help our way of living. But although some people may differ, some say that math
has no value in the world today. People may think that Muslim scholars innovative math so they can
just make money. They are wrong though, math has helped many people like doctors, teachers,
architects, and biologist. The math innovation helped doctors know how much medicine to give to a
patient. I f there was no math or numbers in the world many people would die without the proper care.

How Water Hardness Is Important For Homeowners And...
Whether we realize it or not, water is surrounding us in different forms everywhere. Water actually
makes up about 70% of Earth. Water is overall known as a good solvent that dissolves minerals it
comes in contact with. As water moves through earth, it dissolves minerals and holds them in solution.
The amount of metal cations, such as Calcium (Ca^2+) and Magnesium (Mg^2+) in water became
known as water hardness . Water hardness can be detected by white residue and crystal like rocks
when heated. Understanding water hardness is important to us because it has proven to create
problems both in our households and in industry (1). These problems lead to expenses for
homeowners and industry owners, they will end up spending money on expensive cleaning chemicals
and machinery cleaners. In our household we water hardness pop up as soap scum in our dishes and in
our laundry. Hard water also produces scale which, in industry and again in households can narrow
pipes, block tubes, cause problems in brewing facilities, and can produce problems in farmland. The
greater the presence of Calcium and Magnesium in water defines its hardness. For example a water
sample with a large concentration of these two cations, along with smaller amounts of other
polyvalent cations, is considered to be hard. (1, 2) And a sample with a smaller concentration of the
cations is considered soft. Below is a table of the determination of water hardness scale.

In 1905, President Theodore Roosevelt called for a White House conference to review the rules of
football (Crowley, 2006; Lind, 1993; Smith 2000). The previous year 18 deaths and over 100 injuries
occurred which prompted the meeting between officials from the major football programs (Smith,
2000). With the same concern, Chancellor Henry MacCracken of New York University called a
national meeting to discuss if football should be regulated or abolished (Crowley, 2006; Smith, 2000).
Chancellor MacCracken s group formed a national rules committee which was combined with
President Roosevelt s White House conference. According to Rodney K. Smith (2000), This combined
effort on the part of educators and the White House eventually led to a concerted effort to reform
intercollegiate football rules, resulting in the formation of the Intercollegiate Athletic Association,
with sixty two original members. Eventually renamed to the National Collegiate Athletic Association,
its primary purpose was to create playing rules for intercollegiate sports (Smith, 2000).
According to Smith (2000), in its early years, the NCAA did not venture outside of its role as a rules
committee except creating national champions in various sports. Much like today, college

Relationship Between Media And Relationships
Graeme Wright Emma Hudelson 11/15/17 FYS Media and Relationships Media has existed in our
lives for centuries. It is a continuously developing force that has taken over our world today. In recent
history, films were one of the most popular sources of media and highly influential on the minds of
many throughout the world. It gave people certain ideals and stereotypes of how things should be.
Today, film is not the only prominent media source, social media has made its mark. Mark Zuckerberg
s creation of Facebook was the first major type of social media when it was released in 2004. Since
then, Instagram, Twitter, and Snapchat have become the three most prominent sources of social media
that follow in facebook s footsteps. According to Statista , Humans consume over 12 hours of media
each day. The 12 hours we spend on media is full of possible love damaging influences. The view of
real love has been altered in recent years due to fake love. According to Chuck Klosterman, the media
has affected the way that humans interpret love in a negative light but, while this is the case, it s also
imperative to show that people can differentiate between what is fake and what is real. Social media is
a common culprit of permitting fake love. Millennials are the up and coming crop of people looking
for love. Social media plays a major role in the lives of these teens and young adults, which can
negatively impact their chances of finding real love. Facebook negatively influences

Informative Speech On Agriculture
I. Introduction:
a. Attention Getter: Picture it if you will a world where we rely on a minute percentage of the
population to feed our country. Imagine the struggle they may have to produce food for a country as
large as ours. Then imagine what could happen if people didn t enter this industry and the majority of
the workers were past the common held age of retirement. This picture is of current production
agriculture and this world is the one we all live in today.
b. Benefits: Unfortunately, the agriculture industry has been getting a bad rap both in the media and
the public eye. However, if we take responsibility for educating ourselves we can reverse the trend of
young people on entering the industry.
c. Thesis: Fewer people are returning or going into the agriculture industry.
d. Preview: Due to this trend we are seeing the aging of American Farmers and the spreading of
misconceptions in our society.
II. MP1 Compared to recent years fewer individuals are returning to or going into the agricultural
industry.
a. The agriculture industry is not only the largest industry within our state, but also within our nation.
However, in recent years it has also been one of the most heavily criticized. This has led to a brain
drain in rural America as more people decide to leave our industry and their family farms.
b. In a 2017 publication of The New York Times, Mark Core, an executive vice president at Vermeer
(an agricultural equipment manufacturer), said that his customers say, the No. 1 thing holding back
growth is labor every time. (In Iowa...Not)
c. There is a lot of speculation as to why this trend is happening, however the most common held
belief is that there is no money in the agricultural industry and if you want to be successful you should
look somewhere else. If we are to save America s most important industry it starts with preparing now.
III. MP2 The average age of American Farmers is steadily increasing, and people are further removed
from production agriculture.
a. The average age of the American Farmer is increasing.
i. Within the United States a very small percentage of the population produces enough food for the
entire country. The fear is as these people grow older this already small number

  • 3. Reflection Paper On Cultural Experience For my cultural experience, I decided to connect with my roots. Even though I am Hispanic American, my parents never truly exposed me to my Mexican culture. This assignment seemed like the perfect opportunity to connect with elements of my heritage. My parents were born and raised in downtown Joliet, so I went to them to ask them where the best place would be to go find those types of experiences. They told me that the East side of Joliet would be my best chance of experiencing a new cultural experience. The following day, I decided to take a trip to this region. As I came closer to approaching the East side, I noticed that the surroundings around me started changing quite drastically. A great percentage of signs posted on billboards and businesses were written in Spanish. No English on the signs was visible anywhere either. I also noticed that great amount of businesses that were being run by Hispanic men. Considerably much greater than any businesses located in my neighborhood. I decided to stop at a small corner store located right next to Joliet Central high school. The store was called Supermercado Joliet . When I walked inside, I noticed that many of the products being sold weren t the everyday product that I was used to seeing being sold in a Walmart or Jewel Osco in my neighborhood. Many labels on the products sold were completely foreign to me. A middle aged man behind the cash register noticed me glimpsing at the products and he approached me asking me something ... Steinbeck gave us in this story a vivid view of the style of life after the world crisis in ninety twenty nine; People were trying to survive by working in ranches. At the time, even Steinbeck himself was a traveler working in ranches. The story in this novella is about two characters who travel together, which was uncommon at the time. George and Lennie were totally opposites in character and their size of body and their capacity of mind. George was small and smart, while Lennie was huge and a sort of mind retarded. • 5. Systems Theory Application And System Theory Systems Theory Application Organizations can be thought of as a system. Systems are defined as a collection of independent components which are interrelated and work together to accomplish goals. A system can be an organization as a whole, departments within the organization, and groups within the organization or processes (Hayajneh, 2007). Systems can be either an open system or a closed system. An open system has characteristics of interacting with the environment (Encyclopedia of Management, 2006). The purpose of this paper is to give a description of a department within a known health care organization using system theory terminology. The Nursing Services Delivery Theory (NSDT) will be the theory of focus for this paper. A description of a problem within a specific department will be identified using an open system approach. Using the NSDT model, the problem s positioning within the model will be explained. An explanation of how the problem will be addressed along with the desired outcome and goals that will facilitate the outcome. New procedures will be identified and how the proposed resolution will follow the organization s mission and values, improving the culture and climate of the department. Bush, September 15, 2005 On august 29th, 2005, the United States gulf coast was struck by a category 5 hurricane. Hurricane Katrina shined a light on the need for a military response plan to domestic natural disasters (Placeholder4). The road to recovery in the gulf started out rough to say the least because there were obstacles ranging from lack of local resources to political differences between state and local government. Regional Commands operating the Gulf Coast The governors of the states of Florida, Alabama, Mississippi and Louisiana activated National Guard Bureau (NGB) as well as Kansas, Texas and California for support (Placeholder4) (Placeholder5) (Placeholder6). Turing, Searle, and Artificial Intelligence The conditions of the present scenario are as follows: a machine, Siri*, capable of passing the Turing test, is being insulted by a 10 year old boy, whose mother is questioning the appropriateness of punishing him for his behavior. We cannot answer the mother s question without speculating as to what A.M. Turing and John Searle, two 20th century philosophers whose views on artificial intelligence are starkly contrasting, would say about this predicament. Furthermore, we must provide fair and balanced consideration for both theorists viewpoints because, ultimately, neither side can be correct in this scenario. The answer is no because we cannot accurately determine, from the given information, whether Siri* understands what she is saying on a deep, emotional level, one requirement for personhood that both Turing and Searle deem necessary (Searle; Turing). We have no method of measuring Siri* s level of understanding outside of the Turing test, which Searle rejects as an accurate measurement of linguistic understanding. And again, he also rejects the idea that any electronic machine can possess such understanding whatsoever, so Siri* s response is essentially meaningless. Part D: Answering to Amy In response to Amy s initial question, it would be unwise to immediately present either Turing s or Searle s answer as a correct response. Similarly, it would be unwise to declare a winning philosophy in this scenario, as the correct philosophy depends on the correct judging criteria, which we lack. Clearly, if Siri* is a person, or judged to be a person based on certain criteria, then Turing is correct in his assessment; Amy should punish her child. If Siri* is not a person, then Searle is correct, and Amy would not have significant reason for punishment. But in this scenario, no judgment criteria are explicitly being applied, nor is one school of thought clearly more appropriate than the other. Therefore, our only hope of declaring which of the two theories is correct in this scenario, thereby correctly answering Amy s initial question, is to hypothesize judging ... One of the most important characteristics of the flag that has bee lost in its long history is the fact that the flag that many say represents the Confederacy and its ties in southern history is not really a symbol of the Confederate States of America at all. The Confederate States of American went through three different flags during the time of their existence. None of which were the flag that we know so well today, this flag instead was flown by General Robert E. Lee as a battle flag of his Northern Virginian army unit. This was the only means in which this flag had any ties with the Confederacy, other than being seen in the upper left hand corner of their second and third flag. Also, General Lee himself left the flag behind him after his side lost the war saying I think it wiser moreover not to keep open the sores of war, in a letter declining an invitation to the Gettysburg Battlefield Memorial Association. Many people choose to enjoy the luxuries of online shopping, banking, mail, socializing, ordering food, games, and even dating! Additionally, United States citizens have fully embraced the fast food industry for some of the same reasons. It s much easier and cheaper than buying groceries all of the time, so many families have adapted fast food to be the default choice for their everyday meals. Much of fast food is very unhealthy; full of saturated fat and sugars that can induce fatal diseases and illnesses. The molecules and mechanisms of memory evolved long before their modern use in the brain. EMBO Reports, 9(2), 124 126. doi.org.ezproxy.lib.monash.edu.au/10.1038/sj.embor.2008.5 Summary: The primary purpose of this article is to expound on how memory is formed and maintained in the human brain. The author follows the argument of scientific researchers on the assumption that memory formation in the brains of lower forms of organisms can be compared to that of humans and the basic biological mechanism is the same for both species. However, despite this similarity, the author notes that the memories formed are very different because of the vast number of neurons and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A short background on the initial search for types of memory is provided to elucidate the distinction between the kinds of memory. Clinical studies on memory are used to describe, compare and differentiate the three kinds of memory from a psychological point of view. Short term memory is described as having a short duration of occurrence and with a restricted capacity that can readily be accessed. Working memory is argued to be more than the short term memory because it involves other processes including long term memory, however, there are those who opine it is the same as short term memory. With regards to long term memory, the author describes it as a large storage of knowledge with an unlimited capacity. The author concludes that short term and long term memory differ primarily in terms of capacity and retention time, but, the factor of retention time is still controversial. With regards to short term and working memory, their difference or similarity depends on how one defines them. Critique: This article is well written and has reliable sources of information that are well cited and span a long period of time. The author uses multiple points of view based on his references to arrive at a conclusion. However, the comparison between short term and long term memory is wanting and deserves ... It was exactly 12:15 PM, when the student workers marched into the area and grabbed their lunches. These are my co workers, so I did not have to do much to blend in. However, I did want to act natural, so I drank from a bottle of water and sat in a chair in the corner of the compound. Character Analysis In Lord Of The Flies Moliere s saying that, A wise man is superior to any insults which can be put upon him, and the best reply to unseemingly behavior is patience and moderation. , accurately represents Piggy s situation from Lord of the Flies. Throughout the story, Piggy, though disparaged, still stayed strong and kept contributing his thoughts and ideas to the society until the time of his death. With Piggy s death, the intelligence of the tribe on the island had come to an end as well. When his intelligence had disappeared, so had the remains of their civilization. Chaos broke out and everyone was restless. The loss of Piggy and his intellect, also resulted in the downfall of the society. These ideas and thoughts have been spread through many public speakers and writers throughout the 1840 s 1860 s. These speakers included: Frederick Douglass, David Walker, Lucy Stone, Lucretia Mott, the authors of Mechanics Union Preamble and the Ten Hour Circular. The workers wages were below a sustainable lifestyle, they were unable to support their families or buy the clothes they produced. The low pay came from the business owners taking a large portion of the profits to live in luxury. This separation between luxury and poor started a shift in republican values. • 31. Color Imagery In We By Yevgeny Zamyatin The Russian art theorist Wassily Kandinsky once said that Color is a power which directly influences the soul. In other words, what Kandinsky said means that colors can be used to evoque very different types of emotions and ideas. Colors always have a deeper meaning than what they are actually used for, no matter if it is used in art or in literature. The classical dystopian novel We, which was published in 1924 by Yevgeny Zamyatin, is a great example of a work of literature that uses color imagery. Throughout the whole novel, Zamyatin uses the color yellow to symbolize complexity and rebellion, which are qualities from the primitive and ancient world, that United State tries to suppress. One of the main ways Zamyatin uses this color is in connection to I 330, who is the second main female character that is introduced into the book and D 503 s first love interest. The first time I 330 s association with yellow appeared in this story is in Record Six, when D 503 visited I 330 for the first time at the Ancient House, the only building in the entire society that is not made out of glass. In this scene, I 330 went to a room and came out dressed in short, bright yellowish dress, black hat, black stockings (28). The bright yellow dress described in this scene is a relic from ancient times, before the Green Wall was built and two hundred year war occured. Seeing I 330 in this attire definitely made a very big impression on him because it was the first time ever that D 503 personally interacted with the primitive world. This interaction with her had such a deep effect on D 503 that he even sees and mentions the color yellow, when I 330 is not around, mostly when he feels he is doing something against the state. I 330 is the only character that takes on different shades of the color yellow. As portrayed in Record Seventeen, while D 503 searched for I 330 in the Ancient House, he fell into one of its mystery corridor and he found himself with the doctor that had previously given him a letter that excused him from work. While waiting for I 330 he recalled the familiar saffron yellow silk, the smile bite, the eyes with their curtains drawn (93). This description shows another dress from the ancient world in the same color as the first, but in a darker shade. The fact that yellow is one of the only color that takes on different shades means that it is complex, and that there are more dimensions to it. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Once an aneurysm has ruptured, emergency surgery is needed to prevent the patient from suffering a subarachnoid hemorrhage, a fatal type of stroke. The insertion of a detachable embolic coil can prevent rupturing of aneurysms and the need for emergency surgery. A technical study was conducted which used an experimental model constructed in the necks of swine to simulate a specific type of brain aneurysm (1). A combination of stents and Guglielmi Detachable Coils were then inserted to inhibit the fatal bleeding into the brain. This research concluded that the Guglielmi Detachable embolic coil is a high impact device because it can ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Once this wire to correctly inserted within the aneurysm, a 1 mA current is exerted on the delivery wire. The current is meant to dissolve the steel delivery wire close to the platinum coil. This process is done by electrolysis so simultaneously the positively charged platinum will attract the negatively charged red and white blood cells, and platelets which causes intra aneurysmal thrombosis. If thrombosis does not happen immediately, coils also most likely enforce critical protection against re hemorrhage by reducing blood pulsations inside the aneurysm and sealing the weak portion of the blood vessel s wall. Eventually thrombus will build within the aneurysm and the aneurysm is excluded from the parent blood vessel by a layer of connective tissue. This has been successfully demonstrated in experimental dog models that were effective in producing thrombosis of the aneurysm and suggest that the design is useful in the endovascular treatment of aneurysms (2). Once this electrolysis process has occurred, the delivery wire can be taken out, leaving the the coil in the proper position. Now an additional coil can be inserted into the aneurysm and this process can be repeated until the aneurysm is densely filled with the coils to prevent it from rupturing. The coils are constructed from platinum alloy wire that is made into the primary coil first, and then formed ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 40. How Water Hardness Is Important For Homeowners And... Whether we realize it or not, water is surrounding us in different forms everywhere. Water actually makes up about 70% of Earth. Water is overall known as a good solvent that dissolves minerals it comes in contact with. As water moves through earth, it dissolves minerals and holds them in solution. The amount of metal cations, such as Calcium (Ca^2+) and Magnesium (Mg^2+) in water became known as water hardness . Water hardness can be detected by white residue and crystal like rocks when heated. Understanding water hardness is important to us because it has proven to create problems both in our households and in industry (1). These problems lead to expenses for homeowners and industry owners, they will end up spending money on expensive cleaning chemicals and machinery cleaners. In our household we water hardness pop up as soap scum in our dishes and in our laundry. Hard water also produces scale which, in industry and again in households can narrow pipes, block tubes, cause problems in brewing facilities, and can produce problems in farmland. The greater the presence of Calcium and Magnesium in water defines its hardness. For example a water sample with a large concentration of these two cations, along with smaller amounts of other polyvalent cations, is considered to be hard.
