1. A- Analyze Learners
o Students are in the fifth grade. There are 24 students total, 11 of the students are
female and 13 of the students are male. Among the 24 students, one female
student has recently transferred from Japan and one of the male students has
transferred from Colombia. Both students are fluent in their native language as
well as English. Both transfer students also have thick accents.
S- State Objective
o Students will first locate South America on the world map that will be projected
on the SmartBoard. We will then watch a video on YouTube that will teach the
countries within South America via song. After watching the song, the class will
play an online interactive game as a class on the SmartBoard where we must
locate the countries in South America in a timely manner. We will then learn
some words and phrases in Portuguese. After learning some words in phrases, we
will translate other words and phrases as a class using Google translate. When the
lesson is over students will post their opinions, questions, or translations to the
class Facebook page. Students will be able to name countries in South America
and say phrases in Portuguese with 80% accuracy by the end of the day.
S- Select Materials
o The world map will be selected and used from the Internet. Students will watch a
video that is found on YouTube. Then, students will participate in an interactive
game on the SmartBoard where they must locate the countries of South America.
Google translate will be used to translate words and phrases from English to
2. Portuguese. The class Facebook page will be used again to continue with class
discussion.
U- Utilize Media and Materials
o To guarantee appropriateness and relativity, I have previewed all materials. I will
closely monitor the classroom Facebook page to be sure that only classroom
discussion is being posted.
R- Require Learner Participation
o Classroom discussion will always be encouraged. I will break the class up into
teams when participating in the game to incorporate a little classroom
competition. As stated before, I will be readily available if any questions or
concerns happen to occur.
E- Evaluate and Revise
o We will activate prior knowledge by discussing what we already know about
South America. We will then discus what we would like to learn. At the end of
the lesson, we will visit the class Facebook page to see what interesting facts were
learned and what questions still remain. We will discuss the interesting facts, but
leave the questions to be answered on the page.
