Treatment And Treatment Of Dialysis Treatment
Under normal conditions, your kidneys are responsible for multiple functions such as cleaning
blood, producing hormones, balancing electrolytes, and maintaining blood pressure in the body.
When the kidneys fail, blood pressure will rise, wastes/toxins will remain in the body s
circulation, and the body will retain excess water which can lead to inadequate production of red
blood cells (Source 6). These symptoms of kidneyfailure are a medical emergency and call for
intervention such as a kidney transplant. The wait for a kidney can be lengthy; therefore a process
known as dialysiscan be a life sustaining measure until a suitable donor is matched. Dialysis has
been found to temporarily alleviate the condition, but only for an average... Show more content on

Once the Dialysis filters the blood, the clean blood is returned to the patient through another tube
that s injected into the patient (Picture A). Even though this procedure is done under supervision
in the security of a hospital and does a more than adequate job of performing the functions of a
normal kidney, there are some disadvantages. For one, the dialysis process is a very strict and
time consuming. The schedule requires treatment 3 times a week for 4 5 hours (Source 6). This
time commitment will most likely to be very inconvenient and make the previous life style of the
patient difficult. Secondly, if proper cleansing routines are not followed, it is also possible for the
patient to receive an infection. A third disadvantage is the constant insertion of needles into the
patient which can not only cause infection/irritation if the needles are unsterile, but can lead to
stress for the patient if they have a fear of them. Another disadvantage is that patients often report
increased itchy skin, of which there has yet to be found a soothing remedy. A fifth disadvantage is
that some patients on dialysis establishing insomnia/restless leg syndrome, which can lead to sleep
apnea, headache, depression, and decreased alertness (Source 2). However, unlike the itchy skin,
the symptom of insomnia has multiple effective treatments. A final disadvantage of hemodialysis is

Analysis Of The Movie Interstellar
Interstellar
Interstellar (Obst, Thomas Nolan, 2014) a terrific science fiction story with various elements. A
story about love, family, and friends, but there happens to be a villain whose actions result in
shocking consequences for the other characters. There s a great amount of emotion expressed by
each character, which makes a great impact on how the film s viewed. Escorting us through
wormholes, into planets in other galaxies, and black holes. The characters keep colliding into the
properties of relativity, which thoroughly clarified in numerous scenarios. The movie proceeds
sometime in the future where the Earth is slowly becoming uninhabitable for the reason of a global
crop plague, in addition to a second dust bowl occurring. The science fiction movie Interstellar
(Obst, Thomas Nolan, 2014) does an excellent job portraying advancements in technology,
astrophysics and real life issues that could eventually happen, such as food scarcity and catastrophic
natural disasters.
To begin with, the advancements in the movie remains comparable towards today s technology,
but there are a few advances that happen to be far off from doing. The movie offers us an insight
of what mankind can accomplish if we turn in the right direction. Interstellar (Obst, Thomas Nolan,
2014) shows space stations that sustain a large amount of human life to create or prepare for the
next generation to come. Demonstrates how robots can help grow and maintain crops, also they re

D Day During World War II
Aiden Ferguson Mrs. Huff History 9 December, 2015 D Day D day was a massive turning point
in World War II and it gave the allies a chance to fight back against the axis. World War II also
known as the Second World War was a global war that lasted from 1939 to 1945. It was the most
widespread war in history, and directly involved more than 100 million people from over 30
countries. It all began on 1 September, 1939 with the invasion of Poland by Germany and
subsequent declarations of war on Germany by France and the United Kingdom. From late 1939
to early 1941, in a series of campaigns and treaties, Germany conquered or controlled much of
continental Europe, and formed the axis alliance with Italy and Japan. For a year starting in late...

The first major battle was Juno and it was landed on by Canadians. The objectives of the 3rd
Division on D Day were to cut the Caen Bayeux road, seize the Car piquet airport west of Caen,
and form a link between the two British beaches of Gold and Sword on either side of Juno Beach.
The landings initially encountered heavy resistance from the German 716th Infantry Division; the
preliminary bombardment proved less effective than had been hoped and rough weather forced the
first wave to be delayed until 07:35. The beach was defended by two battalions of the German
716th Infantry Division, with elements of the 21st Panzer Division in reserve near Caen. The
Canadians took heavy casualties in the opening minutes of the first wave. Strength of numbers, as
well as coordinated fire support from artillery and armored squadrons, cleared most of the coastal
defenses within two hours of landing. The subsequent push inland towards Car piquet and the Caen
Bayeux railway line achieved mixed results. The sheer numbers of men and vehicles on the beaches
created lengthy delays between the landing of the 9th Brigade and the beginning of substantive
attacks to the south. The 7th Brigade encountered heavy initial opposition before pushing south and
making contact with the 50th Infantry Division at Creully. The Queen s Own Rifles of Canada had
reached its D Day objective, and the 3rd Canadian Infantry Division had succeeded in pushing

Analysis Of The Poisonwood Bible By Barbara Kingsolver
Biographical Connection: Barbara Kingsolver was born on April 8, 1955 in Annapolis, Maryland
and during her seventh and eight years of life she spent in the Republic of Congo where her parents
worked there as healthcare officials. During her time there, she kept a diary documenting how
different and curious everything was compared to Maryland. She was mostly fascinated how these
people could live so peacefully and happily without certain necessities that she considered necessary,
such as running water, electricity, supported shelter, plumbing, and so on. She concluded that due
to the different cultures one thing was not to be expected from the other; this is a continuous theme
found in her novel, The Poisonwood Bible. However, Kingsolver... Show more content on

Kingsolver subtly presents the colonialism she and many other Americans took part of by
stating, In the year of our Lord 1960 a monkey barreled through space in an American rocket; a
Kennedy boy took the chair out from under a fatherly general named Ike; and the whole world
turned on an axis called the Congo. The monkey sailed right overhead, and on a more earthly
plane men in locked rooms bargained for the Congo s treasure. But I was there. Right on the head
of that pin (Kingsolver 8).
Genre and Characteristics
The genre The Poisonwood Bible falls into is historical fiction and postcolonial fiction.
Characteristics/Genre: Historical fiction is a literary genre in which past events are formulated
from genuine, factual history, but the plot of the story and characters are merely fictional.
Postcolonial fiction is a literary genre in which appropriation of colonial language thus African is
integrated and colonialism subtly attributed. Also, valorization, cultural identity, and racism is often
found.
The work meets the criteria of these two genres since The Poisonwood Bible is a story about a
white colonial family who moves to the Congo in order to impose the Baptist faith. The story takes
place in Africa during the 1960 s when the United States, Belgium, and the Congo Crisis of 1960
was occurring. The history integrated in the book is completely factual;

`` 6 Harsh Truths That Will Make You A Better Person `` By...
6 Harsh Truths That Will Make You A Better Person is a listicle written by David Wong, the chief
editor of the website cracked.com . In this article, Wong takes an atypical side to the tradition self
help style of writing. He approaches the genre with an aggressive, volatile, angry tone to motivate
those who find themselves unmotivated. Wong divides his audienceinto two distinct groups. He
uses a scene from the famous 1992 movie Glengarry Glen Ross to his aid. This particular scene
is the Alec Baldwin, If you want to work here, CLOSE! speech that received massive critical
praise. Wong uses this scene to parallel the audience to those who worked under Alec Baldwin.
Wong directly then divides the audience into those who get things done in the face of adversity,
and those who fail to even step up to challenge. After making this distinction, Wong then targets
those who fail to step up to the challenge, and proceeds to portray his ideas on how to improve
one s dire situation. However, what Wong doesn t fully understand is that through this article, he
truly alienates the group that he is trying to assist in the first place. Wong s use of vulgar language,
from the very first line to the concluding paragraph, makes an informal attempt to grab an audience
s attention. This caustic style of informality effectively makes the audience cringe and not
responsive to the article s message. Wong also uses different forms of media, ranging from pictures
and videos to help assist his

lots of responsibility. Having responsibility is something that you need life long, but in
neurology is where you need it most. Just think about it, you are responsible for their brain, for
their life, for their relatives if something happens, thats a lot to take in which could really hurt
your medical career if not taken into consideration. But also the fact about being committed to the
job. In a way, you need to be married to the job. Not actually, but commitment is one of the
biggest reasons why everyone can not be successful, you can t just give up under pressure. Which
most people tend to do. With all of these risks to not become successful, I think that neurosurgery

Horse Primates Compare And Contrast
When we see an animal, do we ever think about what is going on deeper than the eye can see? Do
you ever think about all the things firing inside to keep things in balance and the animal
functioning? Horses and primates have many similarities as well as differences.
Starting with the skeletal system, the skulls on a primate and a horse are quite different. A primate s
skull usually lacks the large sagittal crest (Cavendish, 2010, pg.10). Just like a horse, they also
have very powerful jaws for chewing their food. They have very pronounced brow bones, and a
large forehead. However, in horses and in primates the head is very proportioned with the whole
body. Horses foreheads are typically flat and broad, while a primate s skull is quite smaller and
more rounded. Primates have a very flexible and short neck, while ... Show more content on

They consume foods such as fruits, leaves, bark, stems, insects, and even other primates. Nothing is
off limits (Cavendish, 2010, pg.19). Horses on the other hand are herbivores, so they only eat plant
based foods. Horses have hindgut fermenters, which mean that they only have one stomach, but it
contains four different compartments to digest food. This contains the reticulum, rumen, omasum,
and the abomasum which is the true stomach. They also have a flap that hangs over the distal end
of the esophagus which prevents them from vomiting. Primates on the other hand, can vomit. Since
horses have hindgut fermenters, digestion is broken down into multiple segments. Those segments
include the cecum, ventral colon, and the dorsal colon (Miyaji, 2014). Primates digest their food a
little differently. There aren t many compartments the food has to travel through. Food travels down
the esophagus into the stomach, where it is met by stomach acid and food is broken down and
passed through the small and large intestine, nutrients are absorbed, and the waste is

A.Plan of Investigation
After a devastating civil war in Korea in early 1950s, South Korea faced a new, unprecedented phase
in forming a constitutional government with assistance from the United States and the United
Nations. Korea especially experienced several crucial reforms in politics and in society due to
introduction of democracy and diffusion of Western culture. To determine the extent of
contributions by the United States and the United Nations in late 1950s, the investigation will
examine the nature and extent of three major commitments in reconstruction: injection of
democracy into Korean government, reconstruction of politics, and societal reforms for
modernization. Not only scholarly sources from databases, such as EBSCO and CLIO, but also
books were used as references in order to determine the extent of commitments. The Coldest Winter
by Halberstam and Grand Expectations by Patterson were mainly used to advocate American
support, as well as Koreans perspective on modernization.
B.Summary of Evidence
After the cruel civil war, South Korea faced a new phase of history full of new adoptions into both
government and society. Under constant supervision of the U.S. and U.N. of which

Kenneth O Reilly s Racial Matters Essay
Kenneth O Reilly s Racial Matters
In his book Racial Matters, Kenneth O Reilly presented the facts as he sees them, with little
interpretation. He delivered a sharp historical account of the unconstitutional methods the Federal
Bureau of Investigation used to weaken and destroy what it labeled to be subversive groups in
defense of its ideal of America. O Reilly saw the role J. Edgar Hoover played to be essential to the
manner in which the FBI illegally refused to protect Black lives and persecute Black organizations
during the civil rights movement. The events described in Racial Matters, could be prevented in the
future, if people became more aware of the involvement their own government had in the systematic
destruction of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However damaging Hoover was to the civil rights movement, our nation s number one elected
official, the president, aided him in three consecutive terms.
People must critically analyze the events which take place in America and fight against injustice
when they see it. Hoover fought against militant Black groups because they represented a threat to
public safety. However, the rise of such groups as the Black Panther Partywas the direct result of
the perceived, and realistic failure of nonviolent groups, which Hoover was responsible for creating.
The FBI fed internal tensions and rivalries which made it harder for the movement to create a
united front, leaked derogatory information on activists to the media which dissuaded others from
joining, and disseminated derogatory information to federal officials which led to a lessened
commitment to protect civil rights workers (358) This obviously created many problems for the
civil rights struggle. However, the manner in which Hoover treated nonviolent and violent means of
resistance was the same. FBI officials pursued the most prominent proponents of violent resistance
to White racism with the same zeal that had characterized their pursuit of the most prominent
proponent of nonviolence (293). Thus people should have been aware of

The Role of Women in World War II Essay
How important was the role of women during world war 1
The early rush of volunteers and later the conscription of men led to a shortage of manpower on the
home front. Women, already working in munitions factories were encouraged to take on jobs
normally done by men.
This was the start of major social change. Before the war, women had been content to stay at home
to bring up the family and do domestic work. It was considered unbecoming for a woman to work.
During the war it was considered unpatriotic not to.
Many changes came about as shown by the quote from A. J. P Taylor English HistoryWomen

were quite proud of this designation as they had earned it in the path of duty. From the war

The crisis caused by the second U boat campaign lead to the creation of the woman s land army in
1917. Many of those who served were city girls from middle classed families, quite unaccustomed
to hard physical labor. Few failed to impress the initially doubtful farmer with their grit
determination and in the end they saved their country from starvation. Other women joined the
forestry corps and felled trees in shipbuilding and other industries.
At the start of the war almost the entire staff of the Glasgow Corporation tramways left to form a
special battalion of the Highland Light Infantry. Glasgow got its first females clippies in April
1915, followed more slowly by Manchester and London. Women also became train drivers and
greasers of the railways.
When the war was over most of the women left, or were forced to leave, the paid employment
which they had taken. Despite this the war had brought a significant change to their life s. They
began to do things the normally had never done before such as wear trousers and smoke in public.
After the second world war their daughter proved to be much tougher to remove from their jobs.

The Theory Of Consciousness And The Body
When the word consciousness is used regarding human beings, the word itself usually implies that
those individuals are conscious of being conscious. Many individuals assume that the mind, the
brain, and the body react as one. But the idea of the mind is not related to the concept of the brain
or the body. These differences allow philosophers to determine a people s consciousnessin the world
around them. Individuals derive the concept of consciousness from their experience because
consciousness itself comes from one s youth. Consciousness can be described as an individual s
ability to become aware of his or her surroundings including both the external and internal world
which they are present in. The idea of consciousness can be explained by obtaining something
simple and changing it into something complex, also known as the emergent property. The process
of emergent property can be achieved in two steps that allow philosophers to determine who and
what possess consciousness.
The process of changing matter into energy, which is the first step of the emergent property,
combines subatomic particles in a specific structure to form atoms. The final step of the emergent
property process occurs when those atoms combine to form a more complex form. In humans, as a
whole, the most complex combination of atoms develops to process the brain s activity and is
known as the central nervous system. But because the mind is not correlated with the brain, humans
can be aware of their

The Importance Of Critical Thinking In Nursing
This paper aims to examine the etiology, evidence of lack of utilization of critical thinking, the legal
ramifications, Federal regulations, and the strategies that can be applied to boost the utilization of
critical thinking in the clinical setting. The paper acknowledges that critical thinking is a key
element in healthcare settings and that it should be one of the required core competencies in
nursing. Analysis of studies illustrates that nurses lack adequate critical thinking skills, as indicated
by their performance in CTS tests. Some of the legal ramifications in nursing include the risk of
being sued, for malpractice, professional and ethical misconduct and negligence. The federal
regulations including the Privacy Act (1974) guide how information of the patients should be
handled. To improve critical thinking skills among nurses, it is crucial to integrate critical thinking
skills into the teaching curriculum. Etiology The complexity of healthcare is increasing, so is the
accountability of the nurses to increase hence critical thinking is becoming an important skill in the
classroom, boardroom, and the bedside. Evidence based nursing solely relies on critical thinking
features that are essential for providing an objective, and goal oriented methodology for practice
(Papathanasiou et al., 2014). The skills that are integral to nursing practice include analyzing,
seeking information, logical reasoning, discriminating, applying standards, predicting as well as

Role Of The Katipunan
The Katipunan made the Philippine Revolution against the Spanish Colonizers possible. It is
considered as the representative of the what so called the people from below because they want to

Tagalog name is Kataastaasan Kagalang galang na Katipunannang mga Anak ng Bayan. Katipunan
was forged by blood, with all its members enacting the traditional blood compact and signing their
names with their own blood. This is a sign of their accountability in their motherland. The foremost

Though the organizational structure of the Katipunan was constantly in flux, it is generally
believed that they formed small branches, governed by the sangguniang balangay, and these small
branches would form larger provincial councils, governed by the sangguniang bayan. The branches
of the government showed that officials have their own roles in governing the society.
Accountability emerges in these roles. All these would be overseen by the Supreme Council of the
Katipunan (Kataastasang Sanggunian), which was composed of a president (pangulo), secretary
(kalihim), fiscal (tagausig), treasurer (tagaingat yaman), and six councilors (kasanguni). Elected
officials should done their part in their position and the members of the katipunan is accountable
for it because they are the once who formed the ideology of the society by means of choosing the
officials that is common with their own ideology as a member of katipunan. The legislative body of
the Katipunan was known as the Katipunan Assembly, and it was composed of the members of the
Supreme Council, along with the presidents of the popular and provincial councils. Judicial power
rested in the sangguniang hukuman, which were provincial courts that decided on internal matters;
however, judgement on grave matters (such as betraying the Katipunan or committing acts
penalized by the organization s laws) were meted by the Secret Chamber, composed of Andres

Paul Theroux Journey
In Being A Stranger Paul Theroux attributes travel and getting disconnected from the world as
the reason for his success as a writer and even just as a person. He says, It was as a solitary
traveller that I began to discover who I was and recommends everyone, not just writers, to travel
the world and get disconnected because he believes it is beneficial to everybody. Paul Theroux s
theory holds true for Cheryl Strayed as her travelling and becoming disconnected proves to be very
beneficial to her in many ways. Not only does it succeed in helping her finally come to terms with
her mother s death, she becomes physically and mentally stronger.
Coming to terms with her mother s death was the initial reason Cheryl had planned her hike on the

Cheryl starts her trip off naГЇve and unaware of the hardships her journey will provide. From the
very first day she couldn t believe what she d got herself into. Despite this rough start to her
journey she soon begins to see her life on the trail as normal. She also lacks a lot of confidence in
her hiking abilities at the beginning. She got embarrassed when she would run into other hikers
and they would mention the size of her bag or other information that is common knowledge to
most hikers. However, later on she begins to become more confident in her abilities and even
goes as far as to say she, felt like a hard ass motherfucking Amazonian queen (202). Her newfound
confidence is shown as she meets people who are not hikers and is eager to explain to them
about the PCT and tell them about her journey, particularly when she meets the reporter for
Hobo Times. She earnestly argues that she is not a hobo and calls herself an expert hiker and
explains how far she travels and the hardships of the trail. Her newfound confidence shines
through during this encounter, as she is no longer the insecure hiker from the start of her trip.
Most importantly, Cheryl finds strength and direction throughout her trip. Before her journey
her life is a mess, she has just divorced her husband and acquired a heroin addiction. Not only
does the fact that she s disconnected keep her from her bad habits, such as heroin, but it also
gives her direction with her life. Her journey inspires her to write this novel, which she says she
had been ashamed she had not written one before already, and she plans to have a yard sale so she
can make enough money until she finds herself a job. Whereas, at the beginning of her trip she had
no clue what she was going to do after. She thanks the trail at the end of her trip and although she

Dukes v. Wal-Mart Essay
Dukes v. Wal Mart Stores, Inc. is a legal battle concerning whether or not the company engaged
willfully in gender based discrimination. Underlying causes, organizational culture and ethical
issues will be examined in determining how the largest private employer in the United States
could have fallen prey to unfair labor practices. In 1999, women constituted 72% of Wal Mart s
hourly employees, but only 33% of its managerial employees (Bhatnagar, 2004). This fact and
many others are the reasons many people allege that Wal Mart has unfair labor practices. The

Employee Cleo Page actually experienced the effects of Wal Mart s unethical labor practices.
Ms. Page began working for Wal Mart as a cashier in one of their super centers in Tulsa, OK
making $6.50/hr. Page resigned from her job three years later from a store in California where
she was making $10/hr. Over the three years of employment, she received above standard
evaluations, but despite her desire for advancement, she was passed over twice for promotions
by less qualified male applicants. Page had also encountered other women who had similar
experiences, some who were in the same position for eight years. Three years of earning low
wages adversely affected Page s financial situation. She had little savings and as a result, she lost
her house in California in addition to the foster children she was caring for. Page declared that she
would not have lost her home and children if she had been given the well deserved promotion. The
promotion came with many great incentives and better bonuses. This alone would have improved
her financial situation. Wal Mart is the largest retail store in the United States. The root cause of the
problem with Wal Mart is that they try to increase their profits by minimizing their costs. Many
internal policies are used to maintain this philosophy. First and foremost is the strong
organizational culture that is dictated from the home offices. Store level managers receive

The International Civil Aviation Organization
1.Introduction A conference was initiated by the US President Franklin D. Roosevelt in 1944, in
which all the allied powers as well as some neutral governments convened at Chicago to discuss the
future of civil aviation. The expectations from this conference, which came to be known as the
Chicago Convention, were high even though the timing of the convention wasn t perfect. The
Chicago Convention proposed the formation of the International Civil Aviation Organisation
(ICAO), which later became a part of the UN in 1947. The ICAO contains universal rules covering
airspace sovereignty, aircraft registration and airworthiness, and global Standards and

Fifty four countries attended the Chicago conference and although it did not quite achieve all of
its goals, it did provide the groundwork for the founding of the ICAO in 1947. The Soviet Union
was invited to the conference but did not attend. Many of the countries which the Allies were at
war Germany, Japan, Austria, Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria, Italy and Finland were not invited
and were not represented but it was the absence of the USSR which was mainly felt as the USSR
represented the largest land territory of the world and were expected to play an important role in
after war arrangements. This negative attitude of the USSR was perhaps a sign of the cold war
mistrust and isolation and that the secretive USSR was not ready to open its air space to
international cooperation. The official reason given for the non participation though was that
among the nations taking part in the conference, there were some countries like Switzerland,
Spain, and Portugal which for a number of years have carried on a hostile policy towards the
Soviet Union. 3.Outcomes of the Convention The atmosphere of the conference was one of

No doubt a large majority of American teenagers are sexually active, but I believe the assumption
that all teenagers are, or desire to be, sexually active is fallacious. I think that in making this
assumption, we have oversimplified the solution to the problem. I am confident that if we took
the time to ask why so many teenagers are sexually active today, we would discover the solution
is not a simple one. Maybe we have not asked in fear of discovering that a satisfactory solution
requires more thought and energy than deciding whether or not to keep a basket of condoms in the
nurse s room.
John Leo, a columnist for U.S. News and World Report, reveals hidden solutions to preventing the
problems caused by teenage sex. These solutions have remained hidden because they involve
directly communicating with American teenagers. Leo s article specifically discusses the opinions
of young women about sexual intercourse, motherhood, and self esteem issues. The title of Leo s
article, Learning to Say No, immediately informs the reader that contrary to most of society s
beliefs, teenagers often struggle with their decision to have sexual intercourse. The title implies that
saying no to sexual intercourse is not as simple as some depict it to be; rather, the ability to refuse
needs to be taught as an important component of any sexual education program.

Identity Crisis In The Color Of Water
While reading this novel, many themes crossed my mind, but the one that I found the most
important was Identity Crisis. James, the author of The Color of Water, wrote about how he
struggled with knowing who he was and what his purpose in life was.
James wasn t sure what race he was. He was confused due to the fact that his mother was white,
and he was white. His mother and him shared a conversation about the color of water. His mother,
Ruth, compared peoples races to the clearness of water. His mother quotes, God is the color of
water. Water doesn t have a color, (51). I think that this means that God is a million different
colors, and if you think about it, water s color changes due to its surroundings. Another example
on how the title of the book relates to James and his identity problems, is that water moves with
what s around it. During the winter it freezes and during the summer it s filled with fish. When

The first question I asked was how has your parents treating you through your early years,
changed the way you parent your own children now? My mom s first response was that she tries

Multicultural Theories In Social Work
Studying of human behavior has never been easier, and as the population increases, their actions
become complicated. As a result, social worker as a professional has different theories that guide
them in the process of assessing, evaluating and intervening at various levels in the society
(Jayapalan, 2014). In fact, most of these theories usually focus on the study of aspects that make
humans different, and an example of the focus include human growth and their development,
psychological aspect, social functioning as well as service delivery. However, some theories just
highlight social and economic equality. Also, almost all of the theories in social work practice are
usually come out of social and historical context, and there should, therefore, be critiqued because
of their multicultural applicability. With the aim of understanding persons and their environment,
as well as the processes of assessment, intervention, and evaluation, systemtheory perspective used.
System theory includes ecological systems, and it typically focuses on how different individuals
interact with others in their environment (Turner, 2014). In fact, social workers use this theory in
understanding different individuals while in their constant transaction within their environment.
For example, system theory suggests that different systems and subsystems in the societies are
interrelated parts. Also, the other common concept of system theory states that each subsystem
affects several other areas of

Disease Classification Structures
Disease Classification Structures
Health care information systems cover a wide range of issues dealing with the supervision and use
of biomedical information. Health information systems are central support tools in the
administration of health care services. An acceptable health information system is important not
only for evaluating the health needs of populations but also for preparation and for application of
health interventions. It is equally imperative in the assessment of programs. The goal of
information systems is to create an appropriate working environment. This is done by providing
initial and going training, allocating resources, and by managing unintended consequences (Wager,
Lee Glaser, 2009).

Death certificates are also pulled to determine the cause of death and monitor diseases that could
change and affect more populations. The data is pulled to analyze epidemiology and provide control
of diseases across the world.
Any negative aspects of your selection
Every system in healthcare has its positive and negative traits. Though there are few disadvantages
to the classification of diseases, understanding them is of importance. New diseases are being
found yearly to even monthly, and every several years the classification of diseases needs to be
updated, which can cause changes to the past and current classification. Once the system has been
changed, and it is important that there is proper communication of the change so this classification
of system remains understandable and useful. Categories for past census may be different from
past categories, so these changes will also make it hard to compare past and current census.
Conclusion
Disease classification information structures are very important for the health care community. The
ICD is used to monitor health care disease and categorize the disease in a format that is universal
to all health care organizations. The ICD has provided a system to assist in the reimbursement
process for health care organizations. The ICD is also important to monitor diseases and prevent the
spread of infection. The ICD information structure has provided a standard that

Irish American Culture
My ethnic group is Irish American. I am very grateful to be an Irish American because I know
the sacrifice that my grandparents had to make to leave Ireland to come to America was a
difficult but beneficial sacrifice. Without both of their brave decisions to come to America, I
would not be here today. Both my grandma and grandpa came over to America as young adults

was born thus I do not know much about how he came to America. My familyhas strong cultures

to continue on our culture. Although my family always celebrates our culture, we celebrate being
Irish Americans the most on St. Patrick s Day. Every year for St. Patrick s Day my family makes
authentic Irish cuisine. For breakfast, my family makes potato pancakes, Irish bacon which is

How Does Oscar Wilde Use Humor
In Oscar Wilde s The Importance of Being Earnest there are multiple types of humor. Oscar
Wilde was known for being quite humorous and he shows this throughout the story. This story
has grown to be very popular and has been made into countless stage productions and even three
films. The Importance of being Earnest can thank its humor and hysterical tone for making it
into the widely known and loved play that it is today. One type of humor that is found in The
Importance of Being Earnest is inversion humor. Inversion humor is when someone goes
against logical reasoning and says expressions that make little to no sense at all. In inversion
humor, the end of the phrase being said is typically the opposite of what you expect to be said,
and is very unpredictable. One of many instances where this type of humor is found is when
Cecily says, I don t like novels that end happily. They depress me so much (Wilde, Act II P.2311).
As you can see she begins with saying she does not like happy endings and then contradicts the
meaning of the word happy and says that they depress her. There are numerous other instances
where inversion humor is used and it adds greatly to the tone of the story.... Show more content on

Research Paper On Freedom Of Speech
Kareem Thomas
Professor Milligan
English 101
21 November 2017
Kneel for the Cause
The first amendment of the United States is Freedom of Speech. What exactly is freedom of
speech? Freedom of speech is Congress not prohibiting the free exercise or abridging the
freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to
petition the government for a redress of grievances . In the majorities eyes it means the people
of the United States should have the right to express their disapproval and speak out on social
injustices. In the NFL today several major superstars have used their fame and staked their name
on standing for what they believe is right. Collin Kapernick the ex 49ner superstar quarter back
is an example of an individual willing to stand up against injustices not done to himself , but to
be the symbol that social injustices today is not okay. His protest by kneeling on one knee and
his fist balled into the air; a symbol of pride and unity has paved the way for other athletes to
follow his lead. From big city stadiums to small town high school fields, those broad stripes and
bright stars are the expected musical preamble to our ballgames. Today the anthem is at the center
of an angry national debate. Some believe the melody means respect for the fallen among our
military and police. Others believe it means the entirety of American experience the (Brady, 1). The

The Characteristics Of Self-Government In Colonial America
From the earliest starting point the English pioneers appreciated a more substantial level of self
government then the other European pilgrims. As more explorers migrated to the colonies and
rooted their lives in colonial America, they began to feel isolated from the world they knew.
Consequently, this isolation from the English rule marked a very difficult start to a new beginning
and necessitated a gradual transition from the English culture to the American culture. Moreover,
with this new American culture, the newcomers throughout the colonies began to think differently
than their English cousins. Having the Atlantic Ocean operate as a buffer from English influence,
the primitive societies began to assimilate and vote on their ideas of freedoms, rights and
tolerances, and put them into legal documents. Accordingly, this display of democratic character
was the beginning deviation from England s monarchic ways that set the New World on the path to
a Democratic Society. Having the habit of self governmentfrom the very beginning, the colonist
readily accepted the New American culture with concepts such as Majority rule , All Men are
Created Equal , and Religious Tolerance . The first characteristic in the colonies of America that
can be described as democratic would be examples of majority rule, and in the different sides of the
ever changing governmental structures. This characteristic can be seen in the Mayflower Compact
which began from forty one separatists who came

Human Interference Of The Atmosphere
Greenhouse effect is the process where heat is trapped by greenhouse gases present in the
atmosphere to keep the Earth warm. The planet s atmosphere contains these radiatively active
gases, that radiate energy in all direction. Greenhouse gases are already present in the atmosphere;
without them the Earthwould be significantly cold enough to freeze the oceans. To understand how
important and harmful the greenhouse gases can be for the planet, we need to answer these
questions. Do extra greenhouse gases upset the Earth s natural balance and make it even warmer?
Is there any extra insertion of the gases in the atmosphere by humans? If so, how significant are the
effects? This essay will discuss in detail, the mechanism that... Show more content on

How is radiative equilibrium achieved? The global surface temperature averaged over daily and
seasonal series, remains constant. Earth surface receives 340 watts/m2 of radiant energy, if the
global surface temperature averaged daily remains constant, therefore Earth s surface must be
radiating out energy precisely 340 watts/m2 into space to keep the surface cool.
There are many greenhouse gases in the atmosphere, the two most abundant are water vapour and
carbon dioxide. Visible light (short wave radiation) passes through the green house gases to reach
the Earth s surface, The Earth surface absorbs short wave radiation, the radiation is then released
by the surface in the form of infrared radiation. Only 10% of the infrared radiation released passes
through the gases and the atmosphere and escapes. The rest of the infrared radiation is trapped by
the greenhouse gases and clouds.
What really causes the greenhouse effect? The remaining infrared radiation is trapped by the green
house gases. The greenhouse gases in turn reradiates the infrared radiation in all direction. Some of
the radiation go into the outer space and some go back to the Earth surface. The continuous cycle
of exchange of infrared radiation between the Earth s surface and the greenhouse gases is called the
greenhouse effect.
The presence of an atmosphere containing greenhouse gases keeps the Earth surface warm, without

Horses were like my thing when I was very little and they still are. The second we pulled into the
parking lot I was about ready to burst open, I was so excited for this day to come! This day
meant a lot to me because I learned so many things and that affected my future. When we walked
inside the barn everything was calm and comforting, so we walked down to the lobby and
looked at the activities that everyone (other kids) was doing. During all the looking around and
seeing the activities we were doing I knew that by the time I left that barn I would know like
50% more than I ever did just in one camp. Alaina are you ready to have some fun? said my
trainer, I was in a daze and then my mom said Aren t you going to have fun Alaina? I finally came
out of my daze and I was just standing there like nothing happened, then I realized Oh! Yeah I m
ready! ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The first thing that we all did in the groups was learn how to approach the horse and put its halter
on and groom the body. After we all finished we went down to the tack room to learn about what
the tacks name purpose is and how it works. Then we all went back to the stalls with each horse
s tack and saddled them up for riding, I was gazing around the barn again and said to myself,
Maybe I could have a horse when I know how to do everything with a lot of hard work and effort!
The time came around and everyone including myself were ready to hop on the horse! While only
one person was allowed in the arena at a time the rest of us were in the back lobby doing

Judgements In Frankenstein
In today s society many individuals are continually pressured from their family to succeed to go
above and beyond their expectations. It may seem reasonable for family members to have
expectations for their family members but too high and unreasonable expectations leads to
problems. This is a prime illustration in the Creature in Mary Shelly s Frankensteinand Mary in
Eugene O Neill s Long Day s Journey into Night. While Victor and Mary s family may have the
right intentions at first, their intentions and high unreasonable expectations leads to nothing but
failure. The Creature s murders and Mary s relapse was caused by Victor s and Mary s family
consistent expectations, judgements and blame of from families.

How Did Nobody Owens Grow Up In The Graveyard
A boy named Nobody Owens, known to his friends as Bod is a normal kid. He would be like any
normal kid if he didn t grow up in a graveyard. Bod was raised and educated by the ghost who
lived in the graveyard. With a guardian who belongs neither to the dead or living. This book is full
of adventures for the boy. But Bod mostly stays in the graveyard or he might not be there living
anymore.
One cool fall night in England on the doorsteps of 33 Dunstan Road was the man who wanted to

The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) Essay
The Transportation Security Administration, more commonly known as TSA, is a part of the
United States Department of homeland Security that supervises and manages the safety of
travelers in the United States. Unlike other government operated tasks forces such as the
military or FBI whose as been in existence since (), the TSA was only recently founded twelve
years ago in 2001 after the devastating terroristic attack that took place in New York city s twin
towers earlier that year. There are more than forty eight thousand people employed by the TSA in
airports, bus stations, railroads and freeways across every state, but you may never realize when
they are nearby. Some have the typical security duties of checking bags, using different... Show

Most employees were only required to show their I.Ds to surpass security in and around the
building. Sharp objects like razors, scissors or tools weren t seen as a threat. Even guns were
allowed if you had the proper licensing and protective case to place it in. A common scenario at
airports and train stations consisted of families and friends waving goodbye or welcoming tem
with open arms as a loved one came home or set off on a new chapter of their life. Times have
definitely changed, and for good reason. A majority of people are familiar with the world news
that occurred on September 11, 2001 when two airplanes flew into the Twin Towers of New York,
a massive terroristic attack that killed thousands of people in a matter of minutes. At the time of tis
tragedy, there were many reports saying passengers on the crashing planes were in a hostile
situation before the crash. Men from another country were aboard the plan with knives and took
control of the pilot, freighted the passengers and ultimately crashed the planes in an orchestrated
manner. These events caused a blood chilling wave across America and pushed the Bush
Administration to take action in avoidance of tis ever happening again, this brought on the
foundation of what we now know as the TSA in December of 2001, merely three months after the
incident. President W. Bush was in office at the time and honorably placed John William Macaw as

Western Cordillera
The western Cordilleran orogenic belt had been depicted as a passive margin after Neoproterozoic
to Early Cambrian rifting. Afterwards, the passive margin converted to an active margin most
probably about Late Devonian to Late Cretaceous through the subduction of the exotic allochthons
beneath the North American plate. The late Jurassic to Cretaceous subduction of (Sevier and

In addition, per my knowledge none of the western US geologists have documented passive
margin deposits as young as of upper Paleozoic age or younger. Therefore, Hildebrand (2009,

emplacement of the Proterozoic rocks over the rocks of Lower Paleozoic age. Thus, the western
Cordillera have been converted to an active margin prior to 124 Ma which is contradict with
Hildebrand s hypothesis (2009, 2013). Hildebrand, (2009, 2003) attempts to integrate both observed
geologic features (hinterland high grade metamorphism, Laramide basement uplifts, Cordilleran
batholiths, regional scale Neogene extension) and the lack of observed features (large scale strike

Design A Simple Electric Motor
OBJECTIVE:
The objective of this project is to design a simple electric motor. This motor can be used for small
scale applications. The objective mainly focuses on describing the principle used inside an electric
motor by designing a miniature of the same and to study various characteristics of an electric motor.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
To design a simple electric motor and understand its working, we need to have knowledge about the
following,
пѓ Electric field and Magnetic field
пѓ Faraday s Law of Electromagnetic Induction
пѓ Fleming s Left hand Thumb rule
пѓ Lorentz Force
пѓ Torque
ELECTRIC FIELD:
The electric field is a vector. The source of electric field is electric charge. The two types of charges
are positive and negative. The electric ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are two poles in a magnet. They are North Pole and South Pole. Unlike electric charges, they
always come in pairs. There are different types of magnetic materials, they are
пѓ Paramagnetic
пѓ Diamagnetic
пѓ Ferromagnetic, etc
The magnetic field exhibits the following properties
пѓ Like charges repel and unlike charges attract
пѓ Force acts along the line joining the charges
The magnetic field are also produced by the moving electric charges. Electric and magnetic fields
are two interrelated fields. FARADAYS LAW OF ELECTROMAGNETIC INDUCTION:
Faraday s law of electromagnetic induction states that current carrying conductor placed in a
moving magnetic field, induces an electromotive force in any closed circuit, equal to the rate of
change of magnetic flux. The electromotive force is proportional to the number of turns of the coil.
Electromagnetic induction is seen in two ways.
пѓ One is when a magnet is moved near a coil, depending on the movement of the magnet, current
is induced in the coil
пѓ The other way is that when a looped coil is connected to an electric source it induces current in
the adjacent coil due to coupling

Reducing and Eliminating Industrial Farms Essay
Industrial farm pollution is becoming a large problem, which is why our country should result to
organic farming. Many of today s farms are in an industrial factory rather than a nice green pasture.
These farms are looking to maximize profits and produce high quantities of food, which could
potentially be a good thing, in some certain cases, but not in this one. The industrial farms have no
concern for human health or the environment. They raise many health, environmental, and pesticide
issues, which all can be resolved with the act of organic farming. Many health issues come along
with industrial farming. Many chemicals used in agricultureare highly toxic to humans if
precautions are not taken. The toxicity of a chemical is its... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Unsanitary conditions in the factory farms are causing high levels of meat contamination (Ziggy).
This is a result of foodborne illnesses such as, Salmonella and Norovirus. The Center for Disease
Control estimates that each year roughly 1 in 6 Americans gets sick, 128,000 are hospitalized, and
3,000 die of foodborne diseases (Center for Disease Control and Prevention). Industrial agriculture
operations are striving to maximize their production and profit, with putting no importance on the
safety and quality of their food. Factory farming also shows no disregards to human health.
Industrial farms also provoke many environmental issues. The practices of Industrial Agriculture
are harmful when it comes to waste management. Since they have such a large amount of
animals in one area is un natural, the waste becomes uncontrollable. For instance, a swine
produces about 17.5 pounds of waste each day (Loehr 26). Put 1,000 hogs together, and that s
six million pounds of waste each year. On a factory farm containing 35,000 hogs, over four
million pounds of waste are produced each week and over 200 million pounds each year. Whereas
on a sustainable farm animal waste can be a tool, in factory farm amounts it becomes a major
pollutant (Sustainable Versus Industrial). All the waste that is produced has an enormous impact on
the environment. The air, water, and soil are affected in the area around the factory farms. The
manure can be beneficial in some cases, but not

Case Study Yucca Mountain
Beating the Dead Horse: Yucca Mountain 100 miles northwest of Las Vegas, Nevada you can
find the remnants of the abandoned Yucca Mountain nuclear waste site. The safety of storing
waste at Yucca Mountain has been an ongoing debate not only for Indian tribes and local
communities around the mountain, but a topic that has concerned many people in Nevada and
Washington D.C. The topic itself is a very tricky one to grasp at this point because a quarter
century after it was signed in to be the national nuclear waste site, there is still no real waste site;
what is left is an empty site yet to be fully developed. In 2008 a number of states had their nuclear
waste in reactors transported. The site was once used to store nuclear waste if only temporarily,
but was shut down because of funding issues. Still, just because the site is abandoned does not
mean Yucca Mountain could not still become a center for nuclear waste. Technically it is, by law,
the national center for nuclear waste. So what exactly is the problem that Yucca still poses if it is a
pending abandoned project? Since... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Most of these complaints center around the potential harm that could occur from allowing the waste
site to run. With research from non profit and non government associated organizations, they found
several problems that could potentially arise from the site. One of the main problems that arise is
water contamination. Some levels of the chlorine 19 isotope were found which posited that
groundwater underneath could potentially come through and leak into the facility causing
corrosive damage to the site (Patel 10). In essence, the water supply for thousands of people in Nye
county and other cities around could eventually become infected from the nuclear waste site finding
it s way in water

My Greatest Accomplishment Was Being A Three Time...
My greatest accomplishment was being a three time heavyweight champion. I got my first title
when I was 22. The fight was February 25, 1964 in Miami Beach, Florida. I was a 7 1 underdog
against that ugly bear, named Sonny Liston. I told him he was too ugly to be a champion and I
should be the Champ because I was young, fast, and handsome. I was right, I beat that ugly bear
in the seventh round. Float like a butterfly sting like a bee is what I told that him. After that
fight, I won 11 fights before losing the belt to Joe frazier. Then in 1975 I regained the title back
by beating him in 15 rounds. I said no one could beat me twice and I meant it. Unfortunately, I
later lost it to some chump named Leon Spikes in 15 rounds. Never count me out because I won
the title back again one more time. I got revenge on Leon Spikes and got back what was mine in
a unanimous decision. I finished my boxing career with a 55 6 record and best of all being
called the greatest of all time, which I cannot disagree with. The biggest obstacle people thought
I would have, was to overcome being an african american. But I took pride in the fact that I was
labeled black. Especially during the time when it was mostly white athletes in professional sports.
My biggest obstacle was being a Black Muslim, because the Black Muslims had a bad reputation
for hating white people or thinking they were evil. People would automatically assume I felt the
same way about white people, but I didn t

The Rise and Fall of Mike Sears
CASE: 4 THE RISE AND FALL OF MIKE SEARS
Like Sears was a prodigy of Harry Stonecipher, the blunt talking, hard driving aerospace executive
who became CEO first of Sears earned a reputation as a skilled manager who restlessly cut costs
and boosted productivity, building a program that was below costs and ahead of schedule.
Stonecipher admired Sear s effectiveness at assembling and managing cross functional product
development teams, establishing closer ties with suppliers and improving controls within his
organization. When McDonnell Douglas was acquired by Boeing in 1996, Sears went with
Stonecipher to the acquiring company, where Stonecipher became president until his retirement in

It was also alleged that Druyun broke the law by telling Boeing employees confidential information
about how Airbus had priced its bid for the tanker contract. Boeing fired Mike Sears immediately,
and ultimately both he and Druyun pleaded guilty to criminal wrongdoing and faced jail time.
Ironically the firing of Sears raised questions about the ethics of management at Boeing under Phil
Condit, the man Sears had wanted to replace as CEO. Within a month Condit had resigned from
the CEO position, a victim of the fallout from the scandal, which resulted in the loss of the
military tanker contract. Condit was replaced by Harry Stonecipher, who came out of retirement
to take the CEO position. However, in another disturbing power play at Boeing, Stonecipher was
himself forced to step down after a leaked e mail message revealed that he had initiated an
extramarital affair with an employee at Boeing. Fearing that Boeing was becoming mired in
scandal after scandal, the board of directors asked for Stonecipher s resignation. He was replaced
by Jim McNeary, the CEO of 3M.

Ashleigh has two parents that are divorced. Her mother was the workaholic while her father was

Ashes and used it a lot every time, her mom just used her actual name which to her wasn t that
special to her. At the end she was faced with a choice that was to disobey her father (don t take

much that he would give her a nickname. When Ashes Realised mom might never be caught
without batteries or tissues, but she just called me Ashleigh a name she doesn t even like and
never promised me anything (Susan Beth Pfeffer: Page 1). Since Ashes mom just called her by
a name she didn t even like Ashes seemed to favor her father more than her mother. Loving a
relative more than the others is hard but when Ashes stated That winter it felt like every time I
saw him my father, the sun cast off just a little more warmth than it had the day before (Susan
Beth Pfeffer: Page 1) it seemed like she loved her father more than anything in the world. No

multiple things for her to show he loved her, and she compares him to the warmth of the sun on a

  • 2. Treatment And Treatment Of Dialysis Treatment Under normal conditions, your kidneys are responsible for multiple functions such as cleaning blood, producing hormones, balancing electrolytes, and maintaining blood pressure in the body. When the kidneys fail, blood pressure will rise, wastes/toxins will remain in the body s circulation, and the body will retain excess water which can lead to inadequate production of red blood cells (Source 6). These symptoms of kidneyfailure are a medical emergency and call for intervention such as a kidney transplant. The wait for a kidney can be lengthy; therefore a process known as dialysiscan be a life sustaining measure until a suitable donor is matched. Dialysis has been found to temporarily alleviate the condition, but only for an average... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Once the Dialysis filters the blood, the clean blood is returned to the patient through another tube that s injected into the patient (Picture A). Even though this procedure is done under supervision in the security of a hospital and does a more than adequate job of performing the functions of a normal kidney, there are some disadvantages. For one, the dialysis process is a very strict and time consuming. The schedule requires treatment 3 times a week for 4 5 hours (Source 6). This time commitment will most likely to be very inconvenient and make the previous life style of the patient difficult. Secondly, if proper cleansing routines are not followed, it is also possible for the patient to receive an infection. A third disadvantage is the constant insertion of needles into the patient which can not only cause infection/irritation if the needles are unsterile, but can lead to stress for the patient if they have a fear of them. Another disadvantage is that patients often report increased itchy skin, of which there has yet to be found a soothing remedy. A fifth disadvantage is that some patients on dialysis establishing insomnia/restless leg syndrome, which can lead to sleep apnea, headache, depression, and decreased alertness (Source 2). However, unlike the itchy skin, the symptom of insomnia has multiple effective treatments. A final disadvantage of hemodialysis is a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A story about love, family, and friends, but there happens to be a villain whose actions result in shocking consequences for the other characters. There s a great amount of emotion expressed by each character, which makes a great impact on how the film s viewed. Escorting us through wormholes, into planets in other galaxies, and black holes. The characters keep colliding into the properties of relativity, which thoroughly clarified in numerous scenarios. The movie proceeds sometime in the future where the Earth is slowly becoming uninhabitable for the reason of a global crop plague, in addition to a second dust bowl occurring. The science fiction movie Interstellar (Obst, Thomas Nolan, 2014) does an excellent job portraying advancements in technology, astrophysics and real life issues that could eventually happen, such as food scarcity and catastrophic natural disasters. To begin with, the advancements in the movie remains comparable towards today s technology, but there are a few advances that happen to be far off from doing. The movie offers us an insight of what mankind can accomplish if we turn in the right direction. D Day During World War II Aiden Ferguson Mrs. Huff History 9 December, 2015 D Day D day was a massive turning point in World War II and it gave the allies a chance to fight back against the axis. World War II also known as the Second World War was a global war that lasted from 1939 to 1945. It was the most widespread war in history, and directly involved more than 100 million people from over 30 countries. It all began on 1 September, 1939 with the invasion of Poland by Germany and subsequent declarations of war on Germany by France and the United Kingdom. From late 1939 to early 1941, in a series of campaigns and treaties, Germany conquered or controlled much of continental Europe, and formed the axis alliance with Italy and Japan. For a year starting in late... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The first major battle was Juno and it was landed on by Canadians. The objectives of the 3rd Division on D Day were to cut the Caen Bayeux road, seize the Car piquet airport west of Caen, and form a link between the two British beaches of Gold and Sword on either side of Juno Beach. The landings initially encountered heavy resistance from the German 716th Infantry Division; the preliminary bombardment proved less effective than had been hoped and rough weather forced the first wave to be delayed until 07:35. The beach was defended by two battalions of the German 716th Infantry Division, with elements of the 21st Panzer Division in reserve near Caen. The Canadians took heavy casualties in the opening minutes of the first wave. Strength of numbers, as well as coordinated fire support from artillery and armored squadrons, cleared most of the coastal defenses within two hours of landing. The subsequent push inland towards Car piquet and the Caen Bayeux railway line achieved mixed results. The sheer numbers of men and vehicles on the beaches created lengthy delays between the landing of the 9th Brigade and the beginning of substantive attacks to the south. The 7th Brigade encountered heavy initial opposition before pushing south and making contact with the 50th Infantry Division at Creully. The Queen s Own Rifles of Canada had reached its D Day objective, and the 3rd Canadian Infantry Division had succeeded in pushing farther inland than any other ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Analysis Of The Poisonwood Bible By Barbara Kingsolver Biographical Connection: Barbara Kingsolver was born on April 8, 1955 in Annapolis, Maryland and during her seventh and eight years of life she spent in the Republic of Congo where her parents worked there as healthcare officials. During her time there, she kept a diary documenting how different and curious everything was compared to Maryland. She was mostly fascinated how these people could live so peacefully and happily without certain necessities that she considered necessary, such as running water, electricity, supported shelter, plumbing, and so on. She concluded that due to the different cultures one thing was not to be expected from the other; this is a continuous theme found in her novel, The Poisonwood Bible. However, Kingsolver... Kingsolver subtly presents the colonialism she and many other Americans took part of by stating, In the year of our Lord 1960 a monkey barreled through space in an American rocket; a Kennedy boy took the chair out from under a fatherly general named Ike; and the whole world turned on an axis called the Congo. The monkey sailed right overhead, and on a more earthly plane men in locked rooms bargained for the Congo s treasure. But I was there. Right on the head of that pin (Kingsolver 8). Genre and Characteristics The genre The Poisonwood Bible falls into is historical fiction and postcolonial fiction. Characteristics/Genre: Historical fiction is a literary genre in which past events are formulated from genuine, factual history, but the plot of the story and characters are merely fictional. Postcolonial fiction is a literary genre in which appropriation of colonial language thus African is integrated and colonialism subtly attributed. Also, valorization, cultural identity, and racism is often found. The work meets the criteria of these two genres since The Poisonwood Bible is a story about a white colonial family who moves to the Congo in order to impose the Baptist faith. The story takes place in Africa during the 1960 s when the United States, Belgium, and the Congo Crisis of 1960 was occurring. The history integrated in the book is completely factual; ... • 7. `` 6 Harsh Truths That Will Make You A Better Person `` By... 6 Harsh Truths That Will Make You A Better Person is a listicle written by David Wong, the chief editor of the website cracked.com . In this article, Wong takes an atypical side to the tradition self help style of writing. He approaches the genre with an aggressive, volatile, angry tone to motivate those who find themselves unmotivated. Wong divides his audienceinto two distinct groups. He uses a scene from the famous 1992 movie Glengarry Glen Ross to his aid. This particular scene is the Alec Baldwin, If you want to work here, CLOSE! speech that received massive critical praise. Wong uses this scene to parallel the audience to those who worked under Alec Baldwin. Wong directly then divides the audience into those who get things done in the face of adversity, and those who fail to even step up to challenge. After making this distinction, Wong then targets those who fail to step up to the challenge, and proceeds to portray his ideas on how to improve one s dire situation. However, what Wong doesn t fully understand is that through this article, he truly alienates the group that he is trying to assist in the first place. Wong s use of vulgar language, from the very first line to the concluding paragraph, makes an informal attempt to grab an audience s attention. This caustic style of informality effectively makes the audience cringe and not responsive to the article s message. Do you ever think about all the things firing inside to keep things in balance and the animal functioning? Horses and primates have many similarities as well as differences. Starting with the skeletal system, the skulls on a primate and a horse are quite different. A primate s skull usually lacks the large sagittal crest (Cavendish, 2010, pg.10). Just like a horse, they also have very powerful jaws for chewing their food. They have very pronounced brow bones, and a large forehead. This contains the reticulum, rumen, omasum, and the abomasum which is the true stomach. They also have a flap that hangs over the distal end of the esophagus which prevents them from vomiting. Primates on the other hand, can vomit. Since horses have hindgut fermenters, digestion is broken down into multiple segments. Those segments include the cecum, ventral colon, and the dorsal colon (Miyaji, 2014). Primates digest their food a little differently. There aren t many compartments the food has to travel through. Danny Choi #003318 0046 Internal Assessment History of America HL Instructor: Leslie Grisham Spring 2015 Word Count: 1963 A.Plan of Investigation After a devastating civil war in Korea in early 1950s, South Korea faced a new, unprecedented phase in forming a constitutional government with assistance from the United States and the United Nations. Korea especially experienced several crucial reforms in politics and in society due to introduction of democracy and diffusion of Western culture. To determine the extent of contributions by the United States and the United Nations in late 1950s, the investigation will examine the nature and extent of three major commitments in reconstruction: injection of democracy into Korean government, reconstruction of politics, and societal reforms for modernization. Not only scholarly sources from databases, such as EBSCO and CLIO, but also books were used as references in order to determine the extent of commitments. The Coldest Winter by Halberstam and Grand Expectations by Patterson were mainly used to advocate American support, as well as Koreans perspective on modernization. He delivered a sharp historical account of the unconstitutional methods the Federal Bureau of Investigation used to weaken and destroy what it labeled to be subversive groups in defense of its ideal of America. O Reilly saw the role J. Edgar Hoover played to be essential to the manner in which the FBI illegally refused to protect Black lives and persecute Black organizations during the civil rights movement. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However damaging Hoover was to the civil rights movement, our nation s number one elected official, the president, aided him in three consecutive terms. People must critically analyze the events which take place in America and fight against injustice when they see it. Hoover fought against militant Black groups because they represented a threat to public safety. However, the rise of such groups as the Black Panther Partywas the direct result of the perceived, and realistic failure of nonviolent groups, which Hoover was responsible for creating. The FBI fed internal tensions and rivalries which made it harder for the movement to create a united front, leaked derogatory information on activists to the media which dissuaded others from joining, and disseminated derogatory information to federal officials which led to a lessened commitment to protect civil rights workers (358) This obviously created many problems for the civil rights struggle. However, the manner in which Hoover treated nonviolent and violent means of resistance was the same. FBI officials pursued the most prominent proponents of violent resistance to White racism with the same zeal that had characterized their pursuit of the most prominent proponent of nonviolence (293). The Role of Women in World War II Essay How important was the role of women during world war 1 The early rush of volunteers and later the conscription of men led to a shortage of manpower on the home front. Before the war, women had been content to stay at home to bring up the family and do domestic work. It was considered unbecoming for a woman to work. • 14. The Theory Of Consciousness And The Body When the word consciousness is used regarding human beings, the word itself usually implies that those individuals are conscious of being conscious. Many individuals assume that the mind, the brain, and the body react as one. But the idea of the mind is not related to the concept of the brain or the body. These differences allow philosophers to determine a people s consciousnessin the world around them. Individuals derive the concept of consciousness from their experience because consciousness itself comes from one s youth. Consciousness can be described as an individual s ability to become aware of his or her surroundings including both the external and internal world which they are present in. The idea of consciousness can be explained by obtaining something simple and changing it into something complex, also known as the emergent property. The process of emergent property can be achieved in two steps that allow philosophers to determine who and what possess consciousness. The process of changing matter into energy, which is the first step of the emergent property, combines subatomic particles in a specific structure to form atoms. The final step of the emergent property process occurs when those atoms combine to form a more complex form. In humans, as a whole, the most complex combination of atoms develops to process the brain s activity and is known as the central nervous system. But because the mind is not correlated with the brain, humans can be aware of their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Lindsay family is a total of five: Chris, Kristy, Christopher, Gabrielle, and Zoi. They have faced several deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan. PTSD is a disorder that develops when people have experienced a traumatic event. Mr. Lindsay (2017) stated, I sometimes relive the moments that my friends have passed right in front of me. While sitting there listening, it was heartbreaking. In the life of someone with PTSD, they tend to be on edge quite a bit. Chris has left birthday parties immediately because a balloon popped. Also, when his children are being really loud he calmly tells them to settle down, and sits out side until he is ready to return. Although he has coped efficiently with this disorder, many PTSD victims cope with their disorder with alcohol, drugs, and abuse. However, I will say that this family has coped really well with this situation. Also, another big difference is that they have a smaller family than mine, but they want it to grow. • 18. The Importance Of Critical Thinking In Nursing This paper aims to examine the etiology, evidence of lack of utilization of critical thinking, the legal ramifications, Federal regulations, and the strategies that can be applied to boost the utilization of critical thinking in the clinical setting. The paper acknowledges that critical thinking is a key element in healthcare settings and that it should be one of the required core competencies in nursing. Analysis of studies illustrates that nurses lack adequate critical thinking skills, as indicated by their performance in CTS tests. Some of the legal ramifications in nursing include the risk of being sued, for malpractice, professional and ethical misconduct and negligence. The federal regulations including the Privacy Act (1974) guide how information of the patients should be handled. To improve critical thinking skills among nurses, it is crucial to integrate critical thinking skills into the teaching curriculum. Etiology The complexity of healthcare is increasing, so is the accountability of the nurses to increase hence critical thinking is becoming an important skill in the classroom, boardroom, and the bedside. Evidence based nursing solely relies on critical thinking features that are essential for providing an objective, and goal oriented methodology for practice (Papathanasiou et al., 2014). James, the author of The Color of Water, wrote about how he struggled with knowing who he was and what his purpose in life was. James wasn t sure what race he was. As a result, social worker as a professional has different theories that guide them in the process of assessing, evaluating and intervening at various levels in the society (Jayapalan, 2014). In fact, most of these theories usually focus on the study of aspects that make humans different, and an example of the focus include human growth and their development, psychological aspect, social functioning as well as service delivery. However, some theories just highlight social and economic equality. Also, almost all of the theories in social work practice are usually come out of social and historical context, and there should, therefore, be critiqued because of their multicultural applicability. • 33. How Does Oscar Wilde Use Humor In Oscar Wilde s The Importance of Being Earnest there are multiple types of humor. Oscar Wilde was known for being quite humorous and he shows this throughout the story. This story has grown to be very popular and has been made into countless stage productions and even three films. The Importance of being Earnest can thank its humor and hysterical tone for making it into the widely known and loved play that it is today. One type of humor that is found in The Importance of Being Earnest is inversion humor. Inversion humor is when someone goes against logical reasoning and says expressions that make little to no sense at all. In inversion humor, the end of the phrase being said is typically the opposite of what you expect to be said, and is very unpredictable. One of many instances where this type of humor is found is when Cecily says, I don t like novels that end happily. They depress me so much (Wilde, Act II P.2311). As you can see she begins with saying she does not like happy endings and then contradicts the meaning of the word happy and says that they depress her. • 36. The Characteristics Of Self-Government In Colonial America From the earliest starting point the English pioneers appreciated a more substantial level of self government then the other European pilgrims. As more explorers migrated to the colonies and rooted their lives in colonial America, they began to feel isolated from the world they knew. Consequently, this isolation from the English rule marked a very difficult start to a new beginning and necessitated a gradual transition from the English culture to the American culture. Moreover, with this new American culture, the newcomers throughout the colonies began to think differently than their English cousins. Having the Atlantic Ocean operate as a buffer from English influence, the primitive societies began to assimilate and vote on their ideas of freedoms, rights and tolerances, and put them into legal documents. Accordingly, this display of democratic character was the beginning deviation from England s monarchic ways that set the New World on the path to a Democratic Society. Having the habit of self governmentfrom the very beginning, the colonist readily accepted the New American culture with concepts such as Majority rule , All Men are Created Equal , and Religious Tolerance . The planet s atmosphere contains these radiatively active gases, that radiate energy in all direction. Greenhouse gases are already present in the atmosphere; without them the Earthwould be significantly cold enough to freeze the oceans. To understand how important and harmful the greenhouse gases can be for the planet, we need to answer these questions. Do extra greenhouse gases upset the Earth s natural balance and make it even warmer? Is there any extra insertion of the gases in the atmosphere by humans? If so, how significant are the effects? This essay will discuss in detail, the mechanism that... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... How is radiative equilibrium achieved? The global surface temperature averaged over daily and seasonal series, remains constant. Earth surface receives 340 watts/m2 of radiant energy, if the global surface temperature averaged daily remains constant, therefore Earth s surface must be radiating out energy precisely 340 watts/m2 into space to keep the surface cool. There are many greenhouse gases in the atmosphere, the two most abundant are water vapour and carbon dioxide. Visible light (short wave radiation) passes through the green house gases to reach the Earth s surface, The Earth surface absorbs short wave radiation, the radiation is then released by the surface in the form of infrared radiation. Only 10% of the infrared radiation released passes through the gases and the atmosphere and escapes. The rest of the infrared radiation is trapped by the greenhouse gases and clouds. What really causes the greenhouse effect? The remaining infrared radiation is trapped by the green house gases. The greenhouse gases in turn reradiates the infrared radiation in all direction. Some of the radiation go into the outer space and some go back to the Earth surface.
