BUS 478 case study Haier
The most dominant problem addressed in the case that Haier is facing is that it lacks of brand
popularity in the global market, comparing to its direct competitors such as Whirlpool, GE appliances,
and Electrolux. Even though Haier made its effort to amplify its brand image and popularity globally
by making a bid to acquire Maytag Corporation yet did not succeed, it is still difficult for Haier to
enter the high end segment of the US white goods market. According to statistics from Euromonitor,
Haier s 2013 market shares in consumer appliances segment in the North American and Western
European markets were 0.9% and 0.5% respectively, which are significantly lower than Whirlpool s,
one of Haier s major competitors in the U.S. and Europe, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Moreover, a Haier Brothers cartoon series featuring the two brothers became one of the most popular
programs on TV among Chinese kids who were born in the end of last century (Wang, 2008). Success
of the cartoon series not only planted Haier s brand image in Chinese children s minds, but also
became a mean of promoting Haier s organizational culture: Altruism, by endowing Haier brothers
great spirits of giving, comprehension, and never stop seeking for knowledge (Wang, 2008).
The success of the cartoon series can be transferred to foreign market as well. By introducing its own
mascot to the foreign consumers in any of its sales campaigns and promotion events, or even make it
the theme in Haier s retailor store, Haier would be able to amplify its brand image and be easily
recognized in the competitive home appliances market.
Alternative strategy 3: Cross Border M A.
As mentioned above, even though the U.S. government has strong opposition on foreign firms
acquisitions of American national firms, cross boarder merging and acquisition is always one of the
best ways to quickly enter a foreign market (Textbook). Haier attempted to acquire Maytag in 2005
but then withdrew for unknown reason. Maytag was later bought by Whirlpool in 2006; and after the
acquisition, Whirlpool surpassed Electrolux to become the world s largest home appliances
manufacture (Wikipedia); the benefits of acquisition are obvious. By acquiring

Misrepresentation In Movies
In his article A Long Way to Go: Minorities and the Media , Carlos Cort discusses the
misrepresentation of minorities in the media. Carlos goes on to state that Hispanics, African
Americans, and Asians are all represented with false stereotypes within the media. Carlos brings up an
example about how East L.A is negatively identified with gangs and blames the mass media for the
popular stereotype that has resonated with the public. Cort also adds that part of the problem with
misrepresentation is that minorities have had marginal influence within the mainstream media. Since
the beginning of television many roles such as news broadcaster, actor, or sports commentator, have
been predominately performed by white individuals, with little influence ... Show more content on

With the topic of the mass media stereotyping minorities, we can solve this problem by encouraging
others in the cinema award industry to be fair and equal towards all actors and actresses. As well as,
protest against unjust news networks or other media organizations that unfairly stereotype minorities
into a certain category. Expanding on those ideas, we could, as a community protest all televised
events that are unfair to minorities by not viewing their content. This would cost the corporations
money, time, and effort. Thus leading to the minorities voices being heard. Furthermore, we could
enable the minority voices of the community to be heard by rewarding fair news stations and networks
with our individual viewership. The solution would provide money and popularity to companies that
promote fairness and equality to all ethnicities. A similar protest was done in the 1960s by the United
Farm Workers, which protested nonunion grapes. It was done because there were many cruel and
unjust working conditions for the Hispanic minority in nonunion companies. It provided thousands of
workers basic working conditions. There were many moments in this event that showed the pride and
determination of the Hispanic community. Even if so they were considered a minority, they still
received what the demanded for. This protest proved to be significantly successful and was an

Asthma Action Plan
An asthma action plan is a written guideline made by a doctor to enable the asthmatic people to
control the disease. It includes the daily prescription. It shows the danger signs that need to call the
doctor or visiting the emergency room. Among children, it is important that the action plan is issued to
parents, teachers, day care workers among other adults who are in charge of the kids (Holt, n.d.). For
students to understand a classmate who is asthmatic, they have to be generally exposed to the
Individualized Health Plan (IHP). This is done by the teachers integrating this guideline in their lesson
plans by enlightening the students to know how to safeguard the environment that is by avoiding the

How Energy Plays A Vital Role As A Catalyst For Economic...
Introduction Energy plays a vital role as a catalyst for economic growth and high standard of living. It
is a fundamental input for all sectors, fuelling transport and providing electricity to industry,
commerce, and agriculture. Yet access to energy remains an elusive goal for approximately 1.5 billion
people worldwide (International Energy Agency, 2009). Given energy s importance in promoting
economic growth, governments tend to assist the energy industry through policies that support
research and development, provide low interest loans, and deliver subsidies to producers and or
consumers. The Global Subsidies Initiative estimated that global subsidies to fossil fuel producers
were approximately $100 billion in 2009 (Global Subsidies Initiative, 2009). Coady et al. (2010)
estimated that consumer subsidies for petroleum products amounted to $57 billion, globally, in 2003,
$519 billion in 2008, and $136 billion in 2009. Subsidies often reduce production costs, make energy
affordable to consumers, and encourage development of new supply sources. Policies involving
subsidies often have intended goals to address market failures or respond to social and distributional
objectives. According to Komives et al. (2007), government support in the form of a subsidy can be
critical for ensuring access to modern energy services, including electricity for the poorest, thereby
enhancing societal welfare. Although these support programs are used to improve the standard of
living for various

Management and Assumptions
Assumption based planning in project management is a post planning method, that helps companies to
deal with uncertainty. It is used to identify the most important assumptions in a company s business
plans, test these assumptions and think of hedging actions and what if scenarios. Conventional
business planning methods operate on the premise that managers can extrapolate future results from a
well understood base of information from the past. However, for new businesses and projects this way
of planning often does not comply. Most of the time there is no past knowledge and if there s any past
knowledge available, predicting the future out of it is nearly impossible. The dilemma is that corporate
planning techniques often presume more ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
What are we going to do if we re not certain about the size of the market by the end of September next
year? We assume that there the product is not very sensitive to the consumer price, how can we show
that we re right? Sometimes the mere identification of assumptions immediately leads to a change in
the business plan. It is for that reason that ABP should be strongly interwoven into the whole business
planning process. Implicit and explicit assumptions Assumptions according to Wikipedia are
propositions that are assumed, i.e., treated within the context of a discussion as if it were known to be
true or false . But although the Wikipedia definition of an assumption is correct, a better definition of
assumptions in the context of business planning and ABP is given by RAND. An assumption is an
assertion about some characteristic of the future that underlies the current operations or plans of an
organization There are multiple types of assumptions. The most known derivation is between implicit
and explicit assumptions. Another classification used in ABP is the derivation between primary and
secondary assumptions. This latter categorization is discussed in the Critical assumption planning
Wiki. The two classifications are not mutually exclusive; this means that an assumption can be both an
explicit and a primary assumption, while another assumption can be implicitly derived. Explicit
assumptions are assumptions of which the

Medieval Guilds Research Paper
Chase Davis Ms. Canady English 4 Honors November 15 F Q about Medieval Guilds and Trades Q:
What is a guild? They are a group of people who share the same goals. The type of people to be found
in guilds are usually artisans or merchants. Each guild has their own specialty and purpose for their
guild, You could either buy or trade from a guild depending on the guild I m sure there was other
options. You could think of it has a pawn shop with things that people would actually want to buy. Q:
What are the different type of guilds and what are their purposes? There are two different types of
guilds that have different purposes. The merchant guilds was full of traders and their main purpose
was for the people to use this as almost like a Walmart. The crafting guild however was for the
members to build the objects being traded and stuff. They would create all type of stuff like weapons,

guilds down. However the masters started to make guilds almost like a monopoly to make more
money. They would make it way harder for apprentices and journeymen to move up so they would just
have to stay the same. During the 17th century they started to diminish down because of all the
problems and having trouble making money. Q: What were the civic duties of the guilds? Though they
did at time s have their own purposes the guild would have to help with the town or city they operated
in. They were in charge for being the protectors of the town, they would also have to construct the
buildings in case of fights. They were expected to never try to commit fraud on their customers
because they were from their own town. They would also help with the funding and building of the
churches because the town expected them to help seeing religion was a big aspect in the medieval

A Discussion Of Constitutional Law And Its Relationship...
A Discussion of Constitutional Law and Its Relationship with Education Education is not explicitly
mentioned in the United States Constitution, but instead, education is one of the powers reserved to
the states. Power not specifically given to the federal government is reserved for the states through the
Tenth Amendment of the Unites States Constitution. Therefore, states have plenary, or absolute, power
in the area of education. While states may hold this reserved power, with regard to education the
federal government has found power through mandates that must be met in order for states to receive
federal funding for education. Texas has one of the longest Constitutions in the nation and reads

Constitution). While not specifically mentioning education, this amendment guarantees that any child
in Texas has the right to free education given to any other child regardless of nationality. The First
Amendment of the U.S. Constitution has been examined extensively with regards to education. Most
notably the clause in the First Amendment, which guarantees the freedom of speech , has been
scrutinized through the judicial system. While students and educators do not shed their constitutional
rights to freedom of speech or expression at the schoolhouse gate (Tinker v. Des Moines), in the
educational setting an individual s rights cannot interfere with the schools educational mission. The
U.S. Constitution separates powers between the executive, legislative and judicial branches.
Federalism guarantees that power is shared between national and state governments. The judicial
branch often acts as a referee between the federal and state governments when deciding on issues that
seem to cross jurisdictions. Texas Constitution While the U.S. Constitutions assigns power of
education to states, Texas Constitution assumes that power and prescribes the structure and operation
of Texas public schools. Article VII in the Texas Constitution establishes public schools, asylums and
universities. The Texas Constitution guarantees free public education for all students. Public lands are

Ancient Greeks landscape design
The Greeks had the characteristics of harmony with nature, so the ancient Greek terrain and landscape
design to achieve relief, its planning and composition of the structure is quite free. The Greeks learned
to combine urban construction with natural landscape harmony and complement each other. Gardens
and parks are similar to living organisms that are closely related to the natural environment and
humans. Metropolis, theaters, forums, squares, seem to evolve from nature, with the surrounding

In the ancient Greek landscape construction, strict symmetry mainly. Alleyways and parks are

The Greeks advocated rational dialogue. Specially designed philosophical gardens in order to carry

Sheryl Sandberg s Criticism Of Lean In
In 2013, Sheryl Sandberg released the best selling novel, Lean in, that calls on professional women to
lean in by aiming for leadership positions in their jobs and examines what factors prevent woman
from doing so. Last year, her non profit organization launched a public awareness campaign, Lean In
Together, or #LeanInTogether, to partner with the NBA and WNBA. This campaign was focused on
men s roles in reaching gender equality. However, the book and campaign has faced its criticism.
Reviewers have deemed the book too narrowly focused on women like Sandberg who are educated,

I choose FIFA because of the giant inequality gap between the men and the women. LeanIn is
designed the bring men and women together, and FIFA should embrace this as it s been proven that
there is a big audience for women s soccer. 26.7 million viewers watched the 2015 FIFA Women s
World Cup Final. However, women s soccer is not treated equally with the men. Sepp Blatter is on
record saying that women players should wear short shorts to gain more viewers. Also, the women
World Cup games were played on artificial turf causing opposed to the men who played on grass, and
men s games are given incredible investment and promotion, that the women do not receive. The FIFA
LeanIn program would heavily emphasize promoting the women as equal to the men. Giving the
women players the same type of investment given to promoting the men can go a long way to driving
interest and attendance for the women. To further promote this movement, men s leagues such as the
Premier League can invoke a uniform change where players wear jersey badges that promote the
LeanIn campaign along with placing banners around the field. Without heavily investing into equal
rights and equipment, the gap between the men and women will never

CBO analyzed results from six demonstration projects, testing various forms of disease management

exploring the loopholes in the payment structure which can lead to greater fragmentation in care and

The Bus Stop Killer By Geoffrey Wansell
Below is a review of The Bus Stop killer published by Penguin Books in 2011, written by Geoffrey
Wansell. It recalls the eventful murders of Milly Dowler, Amélie Delagrange and Marsha McDonnell
and the full life story of the serial killer Levi Bellfield. This book outlines the massive, tedious nine
year investigation by police and prosecutors into Levi Bellfield, his eventual arrest and trial. It tells of
Bellfield s controlling, terrifying personality a man who went from charming to monstrous in a blink
of an eye and his depraved stalking of young women. Levi Bellfield is the only man in modern British
legal history to be given two separate whole life sentences. Geoffrey Wansell is a London based author
and free lance journalist of eight books including the official biography of Frederick West through
exclusive access to tape recordings. He also published biographies, including the playwright Sir
Terrence Ratigan, a book which was short listed for the Whitbread Prize as the book of the year.
Geoffrey Wansell has been a full time writer for nearly 50 years.

No Country For Old Men Themes
There are several apparent themes throughout the film No Country for Old Men . These themes
express a particular opinion about human nature and life in general. Although this film is complex,
and in my opinion littered with several themes, the three main themes are violence, good vs. evil, and
fate vs. freewill. There are many reasons why these three are the most central themes in this movie, as
well as many scenes that portray this observation. The fact that No Country for Old Men is a violent
movie is apparent almost immediately. The first main character that we are introduced to visually is
Anton Chigruh. Our first insight into his character is that he has a complete disregard for human life,
which contributes to his eerie and unsettling persona; even the manner in which he kills people
furthers this observation. He uses a pressurized cattle gun, as if the life of a cow and life of a human
are one in the same. Furthermore, while watching this film you ... Show more content on

evil. The scene that really propels this story forward is when Llewelyn Moss brings water to the
injured man he had discover earlier that day. In the midst of his good deed, evil in the form of crazed
men with guns, comes driving down the hill. They fire at Moss, who then tumbles down a small hill
and into a river, barely escaping. In this scene, you see a glimpse into the struggle between good vs
evil. This scene, of course, is a small example of the overall good vs. evil theme as a whole. In a larger
more general sense, good vs. evil is shown in the plot of the story. The plot can be captured in these
two questions: Will the sheriff Ed Tom Bell (the good guy) catch Anton Chigruh or Llewelyn Moss
(the bad guys)? And in whose hands will the money fall? Although Moss is not necessarily considered
one of the good guys, he isn t all bad. Each character has varying degrees of both good and evil; this is

Grief Scenarios
Introduction.
The question for this reflective journal was to demonstrate how I would assist a patient that has gone
through a traumatic event. Therefore, I have decided to create a scenario to practically show the steps I
would take during each stage of grief.
Scenario
Erin Reuben is a 26 year old female that just finished her degree in teaching. She is a newlywed and
on her honeymoon, she and her husband went horseback riding. She fell off the horse and the horse
stepped on her right leg. The trauma was so severe that they could not save the leg and that she was
amputated roughly 10cm above the knee.
Treatment.
It is important to remember that a person that went through a traumatic experience is not in the same
state of mind as a regular ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Seeing and hearing that she is still able to achieve great things could motivate her to push forward and
give her the drive to live her life.
Acceptance
This is the final stage of grief. This is when the patient starts to make peace with what happened to
them and they start to move on. Common phrases used are: There is nothing I can do about it so I
might as well make the best of it.
Erin will start to grow accustomed to her life as an amputee. She will start getting into a routine and
become more and more independent. She will still have various struggles in her day to day life but she
would have worked through the traumatic event.
When a patient reaches this stage, it does not mean that their treatment is over. You must always be
available to listen to any problems that the patient needs to discuss. Try to keep an eye on their
emotion and psychological state.
A patient can easily slip back into depression and therefore we as practitioners need to constantly be
vigilant to identify any problems or needs and try to help a patient through

Early LGBT Rights Movements
There was also moral and cultural disapproval of early LGBT rights movements, such as nazi and neo
nazi groups, that made it difficult for growth within the gay rights movement to arise. As soon as the
Nazis gained control in Europe, they set the Institut für Sexualwissenschaft, a group devoted to help
gays become free, on fire ( Gay ). Because of the Nazis great dislike for homosexuals, they began to
treat all homosexuals horribly by sending them to concentration camps which lead to a complete halt
of progress for the gay rights movement ( Gay ). However, even after World War Two, Nazi groups
still managed to spread their biased views. Neo Nazi groups, people who believe in nazi like concepts
subsequent to World War 2, began to form across ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Starting in the mid 1900s, many homosexuals were forced to go into jail or lose their jobs or even
custody over their own children simply for being a homosexuals since gays were considered being
sick, or a criminal ( Gay ). A few people considered homosexuality to be a sickness that could be
treated with a special type of therapy. This therapy was called reparative therapy, a therapy designed to
alter homosexual individuals to become heterosexuals. The therapy was based off the concept that
homosexuality is a behavioral issue or illness that needs to be cured (Morris). In the 1960s, many gays
faced the possibility of psychiatric lockup where they would be put through horrible circumstances to
cure the illness that they were facing ( Gay ). Although for a majority of the 1900s homosexuality was
seen as an illness that needed to be cured, it was also seen as a mental issue that caused those
diagnosed to perform preposterous activities. For example, not only was the idea that homosexuals
were prostitutes and child molesters introduced, but also even the idea that homosexuals were
murdered because of their mental illness (Newman). Also, in the earlier 1900s, some Americans began
to see that those who participated in homosexual behavior as illegal drug users (Newman). Since
homosexuality was seen as a illness and mental problem, the early LGBT rights movement had

Impact Of Social Media On Society
Technology has always played a role in society. From politics, economics, and culture, it has shaped
how the world into what we see today. Major advancements in military technology, healthcare,
communication and production have led the way to unprecedented growth not only in the United
States, but in emerging countries as well. However, with advancements, comes drawbacks; and some
are massive. From social media, medicine, to communications, even to the atomic bomb; the
advantages are noticeable, but so are the consequences. In the world of ever changing technology, can
human beings survive and thrive as a whole, or are they destined to rip each other apart as they have
for centuries? In recent years, social media has had a tremendous impact on the society as a whole.
With just a few clicks, anyone can see what someone is doing, thinking, saying, eating, and even
where they are at, almost at all times. Social media can bring friends and family that live far away
from one another closer together. It can expand a person s set of friends and their lifestyle. It can get
them to experience new things, people, and cultures that they normally would not have known before.
Indeed, social media can do great things for the planetary culture, but, could it be harming people at
the same time? Look at the times before social media was the next big thing. If people wanted to know
where someone else was, what they were doing, or wanted to talk to them about their day, they called

A Martian Sends A Postcard Home By Craig Raine
Craig Raine s self conscious poem, A Martian Sends A Postcard Home, is rich in pensive and bright
metaphors expressed innocently through unconventional eyes. This informal, free verse of syllabic
meter poem beautifully showcases Raine s ability to give us, the reader, an opportunity to unshackle
our ridged perspectives on the world around us.
The poem is tangled and booby trapped in unusual symbolism, creating riddles for the reader. The first
step in unravelling the mysteries surrounding all the descriptions is understand the intended point of
view. The title suggests the poem is about a Martian, but only after reading it and deciphering it can
we see it is about Earth. An account of a Martian s experiences on our planet, intended for his ... Show

Transcendentalism Research Paper
The philosophy of Transcendentalism, according to the article Transcendentalism, An American
Philosophy is believed to have been created and led by Ralph Waldo Emerson, which is why he is
considered by many literary scholars and historians to be the father of Transcendentalism. Throughout
the years, this philosophy attracted other artists and thinkers such as the American Romantic novelist
Henry David Thoreau. These prominent and poetic individuals created an insight for this movement,
believing in the true and significant values of individualism, minimalism, and spirituality in their lives.
These specific aspects can be found in Thoreau s most famous work, and Transcendentalist staple,
Walden. This novel was a reminiscence of his life ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is the tranquility of nature that gives way to solitude playing a role in Transcendentalism and how
figures of the movement deemed it important for individuals to be aware of who they are and what
their place is in the world. The idea of serene solitude within the intensity of society was crucial for
many Transcendentalists as it helped to find themselves which makes the idea especially valuable. In
today s world, it is safe to say that people are always busy, moving from task to task, going to work
and back home, only to wake up the next day and do it all again. The idea of total solitude within a
frenetic, yet monotonous lifestyle fully exists, but for many, solitude cannot be a luxury for them to
acquire. Along with still existing in modern society, solitude is a value and a virtue that is taken for
granted by many. Seclusion from the ills and pains of modern society may or may not be an advantage
for the individual, but it is up to them to make that discovery. In Walden, Thoreau mentions that he
found it wholesome to be alone and to be around company soon became wearisome and dissipating . It
is clear that, for him, he did not see the joy of constantly being in the company of other people. He did
not see his solitude as being unsociable or reclusive; however, he did see it as inspiration for his
writings. Delving into his perspective, it is as if he believes that this

The Economic Significance Of Pacific Island Tuna
This paper discusses the economic significance of tuna fishing, and related industries to island nations
in the Southwest Pacific, including the Cook Islands, the Federated States of Micronesia, Kiribati,
Marshall, Nauru, Niue, Palau, Papa New Guinea, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tonga, Tuvalu, and
Vanuatu. Due to the limited number of exploitable resources available to these island nations, tuna is
an essential renewable resource, and, represents a multi billion dollar a year global industry for these
communities. The Pacific Islands contribute a third of the world s annual tuna supply, providing direct
and indirect employment (roughly 7 percent of national employment), as well as being a valuable
source of government revenue. The main topics covered in this discussion paper are: global
significance of Pacific Island tuna, the value of tuna to the region, employment, exports and benefits,
and fishery related industries.
Global Significance:
In recent years, the annual global supply of tuna (albacore, bigeye, skipjack, and yellowfin) has
averaged roughly 3.6 million metric tons (Joseph, 2000), with the Pacific Islands contributing 1million
metric tons, nearly a third of global supply. Additionally, the Pacific Island nations supply 60 percent
of canned tuna, and 30 percent of tuna bound for the Japanese sashimi market. In comparison to the
other three major tuna fishing areas in the Eastern Pacific, West Africa, and the Western Indian Ocean,

Enlightened Despotism in Prussia
Assignment: 1
Critically examine the main features of Enlightened Despotism in 18th century Prussia.
The Enlightenment refers to an important cultural and intellectual movement of the 18th century,
whose goal was to establish knowledge based on an enlightened rationality. Enlightened Absolutism
or Enlightened Despotism as it is more often called can be defined as a form of government strongly
influenced by the wide propagation of ideas and the political philosophy of the Enlightenment. It is a
term first used by the Philosophes in the second half of the 18th century that manifested to describe a
particular phase in the development of absolutism. The term Enlightened Despot refers to those 18th
century monarchs who were familiar with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Christian Wolff was the first to introduce the ideas of the Enlightenment into German administrative
theory. His ideas derive from the Enlightenment. According to Wolff, the state was a voluntary
contract between individuals and the main purpose of the state was to further welfare and security. At
the same time, since the state has the duty to plan and implement measures for security and welfare, it
has the right to insist that its citizens obey its orders. It is emphasized that they are bound to do
willingly whatever the authorities deem to be right. These ideas were expounded and elaborated,
without adding anything new, by the German political theorists of the 18th century and particularly by
the followers of Wolff.
In practice, Enlightened Absolutism was certainly not so radical. The Physiocrats never got beyond
the initial stages in the implementation of their doctrines. Thus the French doctrine of Despotisme
éclaire remains an interesting trend of thought, but its practical effect was almost nil. The direct
influence of the German 18th century administrative theory was not much as well.
Frederick II of Prussia is often regarded as the first true enlightened despot. He was the first monarch
who declared the sovereign is the first servant of the state and presented Europe with a model of
progressive monarchy. Frederick cultivated friendship with several Philosophes and believed that
inputs from them could be used to make the administration of

Taxable Income And International Transfer Pricing Essay
Taxable Income and International Transfer Pricing Business organizations increasingly look to
globalization to increase profitability and maintain competitiveness. Income from such operations is
taxed differently in the United States (US) dependent upon type of income and the levels of said
income. Such foreign corporations that are controlled by US shareholders are considered controlled
foreign corporations (CFC) which must comply with tax rules instituted in 1962 (Doupnik Perera,
2014). Wholly owned subsidiaries of US companies such as Bahamamama, Ltd, the subsidiary of
Mama Corporation, are considered a CFC, and as such companies such as Mama Corporation must
determine income taxed by the US. Additionally, global organizations seek to reduce tax liabilities
through transfer pricing. Transfer pricing is used to determine the price of transactions between
subsidiaries and parent companies and is used to reduce tax liabilities of US parent companies. As
such, tax authorities intervene to ensure US corporations report correct tax liabilities.

Dietary Guidelines For Healthy Eating Patterns Essay
The 2015 2020 Dietary Guidelines was published last January 2016 and contains key recommendation
in having healthy eating patterns. These guidelines encourage healthy eating practices in which
individuals have to change their current eating habits, in order to make better choices when it comes to
food and drink intake. They also help individuals understand that as a part of a society, they all play an
important role in promoting healthy choices. However, this does not restrict their eating behavior. In
fact, they can still enjoy their food and beverage choices, while they are encouraged to make better,

eating pattern recommendations that are easy to follow and accessible to all, regardless of culture and
economic status. Through constant research, a question was raised to see how these guidelines align
with another nutritional diet, more specifically the Paleo Diet. This diet is focused on bettering the
well being of individuals, while allowing them to live healthier and stronger lives. It is important to

slavery in the Americas for the production of tobacco and cotton, the United States Census showed 3
million slaves included in the population (DeBow 82). Most know about the 3 million slaves that once

So this raises the question, is using forced labor acceptable if it is for the overall good of the company,
customers, and economy? The International Labor Organization defines forced labor as all work or
service, which is exacted from any person under the menace of any penalty and for which said person
has not offered himself voluntarily. ( Understanding the Role of Labor Recruiters.... ). Apple used
forced labor; they faced many problems in 2012 dealing with forced labor and awful working
conditions. Workers in Apple factories received pay for only a part of the time they worked, and the
pay given was only about $1 an hour. Workers described the conditions as excessive overtime without
a single day off a week, living together in crowded dorms and exposure to dangerous chemicals, and
standing so long our legs swell where we can t walk after a 24 hour shift (Duell). Apple threatened to
fire employees if they left a 24 hour shift, even though by law, employees cannot work more than a 12

A Comprehensive Picture Of The Labor Market
1) Employment Situation Most narratives of U.S. economy usually begin with the employment report.
This report pastes a comprehensive picture of the labor market, and perhaps in a broader sense
provides a glimpse of the overall condition of the economy. Selected Indicator(s): Non Farm Payrolls
Change Importance Household income is largely depended upon wages and salaries. If the household
(workforce) earns more, it will spend more and businesses will produce more, thus increasing
economic output. Conversely, if fewer people are working, we will have lower spending and economic
activity will be reduced. It is this fundamental flow effect, which makes the employment report
generate expectations about business sales and profits. Household (consumer) spending accounts for
2/3 of the U.S GDP, thus the employment report has the power to move both equity and bond markets
and impact the U.S dollar. The Fed minutes from Dismal also reveal that the Fed takes due notice of
the Employment situation. The Non farm payroll change number tells us how many jobs were added
in since the last survey (monthly survey). Current Trend As the U.S. economy started to emerge out
the 2008 recession payroll gains were witnessed in the later half of 2010 and overall a positive trend in
payroll change i.e. payroll gains have remained intact ever since. Although, the recent number of
payroll gains of 38,000 is the weakest monthly gain in the last 5 years, but nonetheless the number is
positive.

Principles of safe supervision of children in the home...
Assessment task 5
PRINCIPLES OF SAFE SUPERVISION OF CHILDREN IN THE HOME BASED SETTING AND
OFF SITE
As a home based child minder the safe supervision of children both in and out of the home is
ultimately my complete and main responsibility. When considering the level of supervision required it
is important to remember that supervision can be interpreted into 3 different level types I.e. the depth
of supervision that you adapt, and that safety requirements outlined by Ofsted determines supervision
to be adapted at all times of children in my care primarily in the following activity areas;
Arrivals and departures

3) GENERAL SUPERVISION
General supervision would be when you are aware of what the child is doing and checking on them
regularly. This may be interpreted as keeping an attentive eye from a distance e.g when children are
playing on a carpet or when a baby is sleeping. The element of danger when adopting close
supervision would be less than in the other two levels of supervision.
Once the required level of supervision has been determined, it is important to consider the following
disciplines in order to ensure safe supervision and to make all other family members aware of them
also.
IN YOUR GARDEN
Do not let children play outside unsupervised
All tools equipment and chemicals must be safely stored away in a locked shed or garage

this passage is driven by irony. With that said, Price uses a satirical tone to criticize the ignorance of

Similarities And Differences Between The Friar And The...

The Friar and the Pardoner The Canterbury Tales, retold by Geraldine McCaughrean, is composed of
many stories told by different characters on the road to Canterbury. On their pilgrimage, each of the
characters tells a different story in a contest to win a free dinner when they get to Canterbury. Many of
the tales have similar morals, but the tellers are very different, such as the tales of the Friar and the
Pardoner. Though both of these tales have a similar plot and can be interpreted in a similar way, their
tellers are significantly different. Although the Friar and the Pardoner are very different people, they
both have a similarly structured story, using a symbolic demons as the antagonist, and with very
similar plotlines. In the Pardoner s Tale, three unintelligent men want to find and murder someone
named Death who is killing many people. The three men stumble upon a pot of gold, which happens
to be Death s pot of gold. They all split the money in the pot and become rich. While one of the three
leaves to buy wine to celebrate their fortune, the two guarding the gold become greedy and plot to kill
the other so they can keep his gold. However, the one who left had a similar idea, and poisons the
wine he brings to dinner. That night, the two who guarded the gold kill the other one, but then drink

On the coast of Texas just outside of Houston is a county called Galveston County. People like to
vacation here throughout the year even if it is just the Houstonians getting away from the city. There is
plenty for people to do here from walking the beaches of Galveston, enjoying the recently built
Pleasure Pier on the seawall, or the Boardwalk Plaza located in the town of Kemah to name a few of
the most popular. These are the things people who visit enjoy yet the people who live here for the

Similarities Between Catholic Immigrants And Chinese...
Since the first arrival of Europeans in America and their mass genocide of its native people, America s
inhabitants have been primarily immigrants and their descendants. However, despite this fact,
Americans have a history of mistreating immigrants. Although they are two distinctly different groups
of people with distinctly different cultures the similarities between the treatment of Catholic and
Chinese immigrants in America are immense and bear only a few differences. Both groups were
discriminated against and forced to work horrible jobs for unfair wages, however, only immigrants
from China were banned from permanently immigrating the country completely. Chinese and Catholic
immigrants were discriminated against when they arrived in America and were pressured to assimilate
into the mainstream American culture by losing their own. Catholic immigrants were particularly
hated because many people and their ancestors had come to America to flee religious persecution from
the Catholic Church. Although immigrants ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, they were willing to do anything to achieve potential class movement, so they were often
exploited and forced to work jobs with horrible conditions and unfair wages. Resentment grew toward
immigrants in America because they were willing to work for less money to help their families.
Catholic immigrants were considered invaders of the work and Chinese immigrants were seen as job
stealers. In reality, however, most immigrants were working jobs that no one else was willing to do.
Chinese immigrants faced high death and injury potential as they worked on railroads and in coal
mines, and Catholic immigrants did mind numbing assembly line work in sweatshops and factories.
These jobs were not highly sought after and only desperation would force someone into working these
jobs. Immigrants work was essential to society, but they were treated as unwanted

What Is The Literary Value Of Harry Potter Dystopian Culture
Like most kids, I was dreaming of receiving an acceptance letter from Hogwarts to whisk me away
from our dreary world while gradually swallow the fact of being a muggle. Over the course of its
publication, Harry Potter series has gained enormous popularity among readers universally, not only
with children but with adults counterparts as well. As a result of its phenomenal success and
ubiquitous values in literature, numerous scholarly reviews and literary analysis have been conducted,
most frequently on the themes of love, death, and religions. As Colin suggests in The Literary Value of
Harry Potter Books, a closer insight of the book reviews the sophistication and mirrors the social
issues much more than generally expected (Colin, 1 21). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
But as the series progresses, it is not hard to come to realize that the world full of liquorice wands and
pumpkin fizz with wonders and marvels are actually, though thought provokingly, saturated with
dystopian themes and elements as more of the darker aspects are brought to light. Through examining
the typical dark features depicted in Harry Potter, including the tyranny of the ordinary, prejudice
between races, and circumscription of individual freedoms, scholar Kaisa dives into the dystopian
aspects of the serious with their detrimental influences on the wizarding world (Kaisa, 2017).
Although the theme of dystopia has been opened up, very little political and social aspects of it in
Harry Potter has been mentioned in scholarly works, which definitely worths much deeper

faster the computer could process information. The computer will be able to process two or more
things at once. Like you are online searching for things and you are uploading a file. With a big ram,
you could do this. The data on hard disk is information you store from your computer. The more data
you add to the disk, it will become harder to find. The data on CD Rom s much slower then a hard

Chipotle Mexican Grill ( Cmg )
Chipotle Mexican Grill (CMG) was founded in Denver, Colorado in 1993. It began when American s
were visiting fast food chains on a much more regular basis than in years past. Places like McDonald
s, Burger King, and Taco Bell initially seemed to be competition for Chipotle. However, a recent shift
towards healthy eating, organic produce, and grass fed meats has shifted the favor towards Chipotle.
At the end of 2015, Chipotle Mexican Grill owned and operated 1,971 locations in the United States
alone. CMG also owns and operates thirteen ShopHouse Southeast Asia chains along with being an
investor in three Pizzeria Locale restaurants. Steve Ells and Montgomery Moran are the CEO s of
Chipotle, and together make over $2 million from the company. The executive team is rounded out
with five other executive officers who make up the development, finance, marketing, and director
positions. Chipotle has approximately 5,100 employees, and together the company brought in around
$475,602,000 in net income as of the end of 2015. In January of 2016, Chipotle reported that their
number of shareholders had reached 1,030. The shares are traded on the New York Stock Exchange,
and currently the company does not give any dividends to its shareholders. Between September of
2015 and March of 2016, Chipotle faced public scrutiny and in relation to that its stock continually
fluctuated. Certain key events led to Chipotle s stock reaching high points, however other events and

In the past two weeks I have been helping and guiding my boyfriend Richard of three years with his
resume and cover letter. I have a lot of practice and experience with them where as he started working
at a young age and hasn t moved around often in jobs. We looked at his skills and traits and started
linking them to what an employer wants. Employers want a certain education and skill but they also
want a certain personality. Someone who can work well with others, is helpful and has good
communication skills, someone who is dependable and hard working. I have spent the last two weeks
comparing our professional traits so I will base this around his professional life. Richard currently

Number 2, critical or quarrelsome. I marked Richard very low for this, he agrees with others or will
completely stay out of the conversation to avoid any quarrel. he is good natured, forgiving, gullible,
and helpful. Before he started dating me, he would never assert himself during conversations, or have
a strong opinion in fear of turning someone off. He would also pay for everything, even his friends
lunch, which they expected paid every time. I marked him very low, but I believe this has been an area
where he is improving as far as self respect and assertiveness. Again Richard s insecurities or doubting
himself really came out during the Self Data Report, when he took the Ten Item Personality Inventory,
TIPI (Gosling, Rentfrow, Swann, 2003). I didn t tell him any information about the test except how to
take it. When he was done I started looking over the results, and of course i started to disagree with
him, which is very much apart of my personality. Below is two pictures displaying our

How the Growth of Electronic Monitoring Has Changed...
The use of the internet for personal pursuits in the workplace has seen phenomenal growth over the
last quarter century. Along with this growth, employers and employees alike have used the internet as
a tool to increase profit, manage time and facilitate communications. However, such technological
advancement has its issues. The problem investigated is how the growth of electronic monitoring has
changed employee expectations of privacy in the workplace.
Should employees be able to use the internet for personal items while working?
Does the employee s ability to do so ultimately save the employer time and money?
The answer to whether employees should use the internet for personal pursuits while working is both a
yes and a no. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
An employee observed on the sly potentially diminishes his perspective of his value and role to the
company. In contrast, a manager making rounds unannounced to observe employee behavior has an
opportunity to exchange meaningful feedback in real time. He can utilize management techniques
designed to limit attrition attributed to ignorance, lacking job training or simply the magic of human
interaction. (Phillips, 2008)
Does privacy apply to Law Enforcement? What about warrants for emails? Law enforcement of
internet usage ensures everyone plays according to the rules in the corporate sandbox. Therefore,
privacy rights may not be applicable. Some of these rules, if violated, may cause great harm to a
corporation, such as copyright infringement on intellectual property, and/or the viewing of
unacceptable images leading to sexual harassment suits. Internally at a corporation, it can mandate
oversight of usage to protect itself from such misuse and can state the practice thereof. For criminal
prosecution however, the burden of enforcement requires certain infringements of privacy rights but
not outside of the rule of law. The Electronics Communications Act of 1986 (ECPA) was the first
swing at limiting violations of privacy in internet usage. It prevented eavesdropping on digital files as
they moved through the internet chain. Warrants are

Drug Trafficking In Brazil Essay
Over the course of the last decade, there has been an exponential growth in illicit trafficking of drugs
affects all aspects of life. Brazil is a direct victim of this trafficking as its homicide rate of 27.1 per

trafficking by organized crime groups. Brazil is conscious of crime groups that control the illegal drug
trade are: Primeiro Comando da Capital, Comando Vermelho, and Amigos dos Amigos. Due to the
geographic location of Brazil, it is a pinnacle transit zone for drugs to be smuggled into Europe and

Drug cases are grouped with serious crimes such as murder, rape and kidnapping. The delegation of
Brazil is known for being present at UN drug conventions in order to gain expertise on the topic. In
the last two decades itself, Brazil has passed legislature to help deal with this ongoing issue. In 2006,
Brazil passed the Drug Law which states, Whoever acquires, keeps, holds in storage, transports or
carries upon himself, for personal use, drugs without authorization or in violation of legal or
regulatory decree, shall be subject to the following penalties: I: warnings about the effects of drugs; II:
community service; III: educational measures, completion of an educational course. With progress
comes complication as this law fails to recognize the difference between a drug user and drug
trafficker. An effect is the alarming increase in prisoners with the total up to 620,000 who swelter in
prisons. It is in best interest for the country to remain strict but refine the details that cause

  • 2. BUS 478 case study Haier The most dominant problem addressed in the case that Haier is facing is that it lacks of brand popularity in the global market, comparing to its direct competitors such as Whirlpool, GE appliances, and Electrolux. Even though Haier made its effort to amplify its brand image and popularity globally by making a bid to acquire Maytag Corporation yet did not succeed, it is still difficult for Haier to enter the high end segment of the US white goods market. According to statistics from Euromonitor, Haier s 2013 market shares in consumer appliances segment in the North American and Western European markets were 0.9% and 0.5% respectively, which are significantly lower than Whirlpool s, one of Haier s major competitors in the U.S. and Europe, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Moreover, a Haier Brothers cartoon series featuring the two brothers became one of the most popular programs on TV among Chinese kids who were born in the end of last century (Wang, 2008). Success of the cartoon series not only planted Haier s brand image in Chinese children s minds, but also became a mean of promoting Haier s organizational culture: Altruism, by endowing Haier brothers great spirits of giving, comprehension, and never stop seeking for knowledge (Wang, 2008). The success of the cartoon series can be transferred to foreign market as well. By introducing its own mascot to the foreign consumers in any of its sales campaigns and promotion events, or even make it the theme in Haier s retailor store, Haier would be able to amplify its brand image and be easily recognized in the competitive home appliances market. Alternative strategy 3: Cross Border M A. Carlos goes on to state that Hispanics, African Americans, and Asians are all represented with false stereotypes within the media. Carlos brings up an example about how East L.A is negatively identified with gangs and blames the mass media for the popular stereotype that has resonated with the public. Expanding on those ideas, we could, as a community protest all televised events that are unfair to minorities by not viewing their content. This would cost the corporations money, time, and effort. Thus leading to the minorities voices being heard. Furthermore, we could enable the minority voices of the community to be heard by rewarding fair news stations and networks with our individual viewership. The solution would provide money and popularity to companies that promote fairness and equality to all ethnicities. A similar protest was done in the 1960s by the United Farm Workers, which protested nonunion grapes. It was done because there were many cruel and unjust working conditions for the Hispanic minority in nonunion companies. It provided thousands of workers basic working conditions. It is a fundamental input for all sectors, fuelling transport and providing electricity to industry, commerce, and agriculture. Yet access to energy remains an elusive goal for approximately 1.5 billion people worldwide (International Energy Agency, 2009). Given energy s importance in promoting economic growth, governments tend to assist the energy industry through policies that support research and development, provide low interest loans, and deliver subsidies to producers and or consumers. The Global Subsidies Initiative estimated that global subsidies to fossil fuel producers were approximately $100 billion in 2009 (Global Subsidies Initiative, 2009). Coady et al. (2010) estimated that consumer subsidies for petroleum products amounted to $57 billion, globally, in 2003, $519 billion in 2008, and $136 billion in 2009. Subsidies often reduce production costs, make energy affordable to consumers, and encourage development of new supply sources. Policies involving subsidies often have intended goals to address market failures or respond to social and distributional objectives. According to Komives et al. (2007), government support in the form of a subsidy can be critical for ensuring access to modern energy services, including electricity for the poorest, thereby enhancing societal welfare. An assumption is an assertion about some characteristic of the future that underlies the current operations or plans of an organization There are multiple types of assumptions. The most known derivation is between implicit and explicit assumptions. Another classification used in ABP is the derivation between primary and secondary assumptions. There are many reasons why these three are the most central themes in this movie, as well as many scenes that portray this observation. The fact that No Country for Old Men is a violent movie is apparent almost immediately. The first main character that we are introduced to visually is Anton Chigruh. Our first insight into his character is that he has a complete disregard for human life, which contributes to his eerie and unsettling persona; even the manner in which he kills people furthers this observation. It is the tranquility of nature that gives way to solitude playing a role in Transcendentalism and how figures of the movement deemed it important for individuals to be aware of who they are and what their place is in the world. The idea of serene solitude within the intensity of society was crucial for many Transcendentalists as it helped to find themselves which makes the idea especially valuable. In today s world, it is safe to say that people are always busy, moving from task to task, going to work and back home, only to wake up the next day and do it all again. The idea of total solitude within a frenetic, yet monotonous lifestyle fully exists, but for many, solitude cannot be a luxury for them to acquire. Along with still existing in modern society, solitude is a value and a virtue that is taken for granted by many. Seclusion from the ills and pains of modern society may or may not be an advantage for the individual, but it is up to them to make that discovery. In Walden, Thoreau mentions that he found it wholesome to be alone and to be around company soon became wearisome and dissipating . The Enlightenment refers to an important cultural and intellectual movement of the 18th century, whose goal was to establish knowledge based on an enlightened rationality. Enlightened Absolutism or Enlightened Despotism as it is more often called can be defined as a form of government strongly influenced by the wide propagation of ideas and the political philosophy of the Enlightenment. Christian Wolff was the first to introduce the ideas of the Enlightenment into German administrative theory. His ideas derive from the Enlightenment. According to Wolff, the state was a voluntary contract between individuals and the main purpose of the state was to further welfare and security. At the same time, since the state has the duty to plan and implement measures for security and welfare, it has the right to insist that its citizens obey its orders. It is emphasized that they are bound to do willingly whatever the authorities deem to be right. These ideas were expounded and elaborated, without adding anything new, by the German political theorists of the 18th century and particularly by the followers of Wolff. In practice, Enlightened Absolutism was certainly not so radical. The Physiocrats never got beyond the initial stages in the implementation of their doctrines. Thus the French doctrine of Despotisme éclaire remains an interesting trend of thought, but its practical effect was almost nil. The direct influence of the German 18th century administrative theory was not much as well. Frederick II of Prussia is often regarded as the first true enlightened despot. • 36. A Comprehensive Picture Of The Labor Market 1) Employment Situation Most narratives of U.S. economy usually begin with the employment report. This report pastes a comprehensive picture of the labor market, and perhaps in a broader sense provides a glimpse of the overall condition of the economy. Selected Indicator(s): Non Farm Payrolls Change Importance Household income is largely depended upon wages and salaries. If the household (workforce) earns more, it will spend more and businesses will produce more, thus increasing economic output. Conversely, if fewer people are working, we will have lower spending and economic activity will be reduced. It is this fundamental flow effect, which makes the employment report generate expectations about business sales and profits. Household (consumer) spending accounts for 2/3 of the U.S GDP, thus the employment report has the power to move both equity and bond markets and impact the U.S dollar. The Fed minutes from Dismal also reveal that the Fed takes due notice of the Employment situation. The Non farm payroll change number tells us how many jobs were added in since the last survey (monthly survey). Current Trend As the U.S. economy started to emerge out the 2008 recession payroll gains were witnessed in the later half of 2010 and overall a positive trend in payroll change i.e. payroll gains have remained intact ever since.
