People s Views On Witches
People s views on witches have transformed from the pre modern period to today. During the pre
modern time, many people believed the Devil carried out evil deeds through witches, but the witches
were to blame for all of the misfortunes caused (Kramer and Sprenger 2). The modern era, though,
rejects that belief. Today, it is rumored that witches are no longer associated with the Devil, and a
witch is anyone at all who performs magic (Bolds 1). The definition of a witch as a whole has
transformed completely due to the diversity in opinions. Initially, it appears a witch can be defined as
a person who performs magic by conforming to these simple guidelines; however, I argue that a witch
is much more complex than that because magic can be used for good or evil in witchcraft. Witchcraft
does not directly correspond to religion; however, religions may have certain beliefs about witchcraft.
In their pre modern treatise Malleus Maleficarum, Heinrich Kramer and James Sprenger state that
witchcraft is futile without the Devil, a witch, and the permission of God (Kramer and Sprenger 12).
In the modern text RELIGIOUS: Witches, not what you d expect, Meagan Bolds argues that a person
can practice any religion or no religion and still be referred to as a witch. The only condition for Bolds
is that the person holds the ability to perform magic of some sort (Bolds 1). Therefore, magic no
longer stands as a burden to society. Instead, Bolds thinks of magic as a right (Bolds 1). This

Private Military Contractors In The Middle East
Throughout the Middle East, the use of private military contractors has significantly heightened, due
to the call of attacks in these countries. PMC s take up much cost for a country to fund, and the
increasing rates are bringing drawbacks onto working citizens. However, there PMC s are also vital in
order for a country to maintain its armed security forces. On the other hand, mercenaries are people
who take part in armed conflicts. The PMC s hire these mercenaries to work under them in helping
take part in hostilities, but receive benefits for their own gains. Recently, the United Nations
Mercenary Convention (UNMC) has placed restrictions upon PMC s in the use of mercenaries, in
order to create specifications between commercial and government uses of these protection services.
Sweden has very little support and funds for the use of these PMC s, due to the lack of high military
activity.
Current Issues: In the Middle East, and other countries active in their military uses, are raising high
questions of controversy against whether or not PMC s should be implemented at an international
scale. After these countries in the middle east have been hit with attacks, there has been thought on
how to promote entrusted security for the countries. However, the use of these PMC s can lead to
security faults in diplomatic officials, and can cause unstable regions throughout a country as we have
seen happen in Libya in 2012. On the contrary, PMC s can be ideal in post war

I. What Business Are We In? II. Where Are We Now? External Assessment Trend Analysis Economic
Factors U.S GDP One of the main economic factors that would affect JNJ is GDP. As shown above
GDP in the United States is decreasing meaning resources will be limited and there will be a much
needed increase in cash flows for competitive advantage. GDP s in others countries are increasing

Keeping up with the newest technology would make research and development much more productive
and efficient and would give JNJ better opportunities to come up with newer, healthier, and more
useful products. Not only would it help research and development, but technology innovations can
help with operations and even with control factors over the company. There are many different forces
that JNJ needs to be aware of. They need to be able to take full advantage of the opportunities and
prepare for the threats to maximize competitive advantage knowing the different trends. Potential
development of substitute products Competitive Analysis Porter s Five Force Model Rivalry among
competing firms Bargaining power of suppliers Bargaining power of consumers Potential entry of new
competitors Potential development of substitute products The existence of products outside of the
realm of the common product boundaries increases the propensity of customers to switch to
alternatives. Since pharmaceutical and medical devices are necessary for the maintenance of good
health, a significant decrease in use is not likely. The largest threat of substitutes comes from generic
pharmaceuticals. Once a drug loses patent protection, associated revenue usually rapidly falls. One
way to mitigate the effect of generic drugs would be to develop more compounds with lower sales,
perhaps by targeting more precise conditions. A similar threat of substitutes is

Princess Diana Eulogy Analysis
On August 31, 1997, Princess Diana died in a fatal car crash while in Paris. Her funeral was held on
September 6, 1997, at Westminster Abbey in London, England. Thousands of people attended, while
many more watched from their homes. A few of her family members spoke great things about her;
however, the eulogy her brother wrote shocked the millions that were watching. According to the
Merriam Webster Dictionary a eulogy is a commendatory oration or writing especially in honor of one
deceased (Merriam Webster Dictionary). This eulogy written for Princess Diana had many factors that
set it apart from typical eulogies, but these aspects made it more effective.
A typical eulogy consists of praise, happy memories, stories, and positive personality features of the
one deceased. In opposition, this particular eulogy had a negative tone regarding the sadness in her
life, as well as blaming the royal family and the paparazzi for her untimely passing. This eulogy used
aspects that most speeches, essays, and other forms of writing use, including pathos, ethos, logos,
parallelism, imagery, and negative comments toward her unfortunate loss of life.
Earl used pathos to appeal to the audience s emotions. He used it to draw the audience in, and get their
attention by talking about family. An example of pathos from the eulogy is, These were days I will
always treasure. It was as if we had been transported back to our childhood when we spent such an
enormous amount of time together

Miss Peregrine s Home For Peculiar Children
Miss Peregrine s Home for Peculiar Children is a science fiction novel that was presented to the
reading world in 2011 by Ransom Riggs. This year the characters of Riggs s novel made their way to
the big screen under the direction of Tim Burton. While critics rave about the wonders of Burton s
skills to transform the novel into a believable reality, I have some other views. My views dig past the
screen and break apart the struggles and decisions Burton made while directing. While I agree with
Hoffman, who noted this film is Tim Burton s best in 20 years (2016), there are some scenes that left
me confused and upset. To begin breaking down the adaptation, it must first be placed in a category.
This category tells us which form of adaptation it is and what we can expect under these
circumstances. I, personally, categorize this as a pluralist adaptation. During my screening of the film,
I spent a good chunk of my time looking for the analogies and similarities between the two. This made
it much easier to pick out the differences that lead me to conclude that the adaptation was pluralist in
nature. I also noticed how the film stuck quite closely to the novel s spirit, this made the film more
inviting and accurate. Riggs himself said in an interview that [Burton] took the ideas I had and made
them bigger and more vibrant than I d imagined (Riggs, 2016). Another characteristic of the film that
made it a pluralist adaptation is how much it exists as its own production; yet many

Strangeness And Isolation
Strangeness is an experience that occurs in everyday life. It can happen when we meet people from
different countries, when we travel to other countries or it can occur at home when we encounter
people who are strange to us. Thus, the stranger can be a visitor, a guest, a new comer or an
immigrant. In addition, foreigner, other or enemy are words that can be used as a synonym for
stranger. However, strangeness is not only related to people but also to situations, places, time or to
attitudes of other people, even to our undiscovered traits. In this sense, strangeness involves several
dimensions and aspects. George Simmel considers the stranger as a wanderer who comes today and

Energy Deregulation Essay
What is energy deregulation? Energy deregulation is the breakup of the utility monopoly in 35 states.
Currently only 11 states allow full deregulation which allows consumers and businesses to choose
their own electricity and gas providers. Energy deregulation is very similar to the AT T divestiture
back in 1984. Consumers businesses were bound to AT T for their local and long distance services
regardless of cost. The break up of AT T to Bell companies allow consumers to choose providers such
as MCI, Sprint, and other telecommunication companies which allowed increased competition.
Energy deregulation will do the same; however the PUC (Public Utilities Commission) of each given
state is cautious of the breakup to prevent another Enron catastrophe. Also consumers need to make
sure what agreement they sign as contracts are usually determined by fixed and variable rates. Also do
not confuse energy deregulation with alternative energy or renewable energy, energy deregulation
simply means shopping for electricity gas services through the open market.
Energy deregulation has been adopted by many states over the past several years as a way to allow for
multiple energy providers to compete for customers based on price and a higher level of customer
service, break the utility monopoly into separate companies or business unit that separate the

Critical Concepts Of Middle Adulthood
There are many emotions that coincide with middle adulthood. Three of the most critical concepts of
middle adulthood are midlife crisis, empty nest syndrome, and sandwich generation. Each concept and
stage are apparent in many people around the age 42 45 and can last from 2 5 years. However, these
ages can fluctuate for various environmental reasons and circumstances. Also, this can have gender
and culture variations that can affect the age and longevity. A midlife crisis is the event that happens in
a person 40 s where an emotional crisis occurs that involves identity, confidence, and depression.

The sandwich generation is when an adult is not only taking care of their own children, but also their
parents. In many cultures such as Asian tradition taking care of your parents is required and a mark of
adulthood. The generation is typically between the ages of 30 and 55. This number is so widely raged
because many environmental circumstance depend upon it. People in this stage may become stressed,
depressed, and have a loss of identity. Also, people in this generation have to be very patient and
empathetic towards others to withstand the difficulties and responsibilities of being in a sandwich
generation situation. As life expectancy is increasing this is much more common. It is very common in
developing countries because families are financially dependent on each other and may even live in

Reflection On Trust
About a year ago today my family was going through many issues that affected my mental well being
tremendously. Being home was similar to being lost, it was a world I wasn t equipped for, and no
longer wanted to be apart of. Things at home took such a turn that my mother sent my sister to live in
Florida with her father, I knew then I no longer had a purpose to stay. Following this occasion, I
started to ask around for places to live, I even went as far as looking for rooms to rent in the area.
Generously one of my best friends, Jessica, offered to let me stay with her for the remainder of the
school year. She and her parents took me in days later, accepting me with loving arms. Living with my
friends family started to become more of a home to me than any home I d lived in prior. This
transformation in my life was one of the first in which I allowed myself to be cared for by others. With
this I want to explore the idea of trust within my life, and how it has affected me. Trust is something I
was taught over time not to believe in, or more importantly I was shown not to believe in. Throughout
many of my life experiences I ve learned that trust can only be plausible if my attitudes towards the
idea would permit it. My sense of trust within people has been diminished, leaving me with the notion
that trusting is a huge risk. The risk of being let down by someone who chose not to commit to an act,
is a risk I am normally am not able to perform. After countless occasions of

The Theme Of The Devil In The White City
Michael Memis Period: 6 The Devil In The White City, by Erik Larson, mainly revolves around the
stories of two people, Daniel Hudson Burnham and H.H. Holmes during the Columbian Exposition in
1893. Due to the time period of the book falling in between the end of an era and the beginning of an
era, it is argued as to whether it is the end of the Industrial/Gilded Age or the beginning of the
Progressive Era. The Industrial/Gilded Age was a time of unrestricted growth of the businesses and
the upper class at the expense of others due to laissez faire policies of the government. The
Progressive Era was about the United States fixing the wrongs of the previous era through a
progressive movement. During this time the United ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One such service was the Pinkerton Detective Agency. Holmes talks about how the police were too
incompetent to catch him and though he was worried about the Pinkerton Detective agency, they
seemed too busy stopping strikes to catch him. One of the strikes that the Pinkerton Detective agency
was most famous for stopping was the Homestead Strike. These strikes wouldn t be successful until
the next time period when the government starting listening to both the workers and the employers.
The Pinkerton Detective Agency is also important in the book because one of their detectives, Frank
Geyer, arrests Holmes for fraud for faking the death of Benjamin Pietzel. It ends up being revealed
that Holmes in fact did kill Pietzel as well as many others. He was eventually executed (by hanging).
Another important service was the Colonel William Cody s (aka Buffalo Bill) Wild West show. This
was a very popular form of entertainment at the time for urban audiences. Buffalo Bill wanted his
show to be part of the Columbian Exposition but the fair s Committee on Ways and Means said no. He
then got land close to the exposition and had his show there where it was very successful. The
Committee would come to regret not having the Wild West show as part of their Exposition, especially

Bowling For Columbine The Cove Analysis
The purpose of a documentary is to promote one s views or beliefs, in order to provoke change in
society. This is evident in Michael Moore s documentary Bowling for Columbine and Louie Psihoyos,
The Cove. Both documentaries manipulate the audience into taking the composers side of the
argument. Bowling for Columbine uses satirical humour and interviewing techniques to make an
extremely persuasive argument highlighting issues such as gun violence levels in America and the
Columbine High School massacre itself. Louie Psihoyos The Cove uses statistics and archival footage
to persuade the audience that dolphins are beginning unnecessarily slaughtered, and there is something
underhanded going on in Taiji, Japan.
Michael Moore s, Bowling for Columbine manipulates the viewer to believe that gun violence in

Teen Suicide Research Essay
Teenage suicide is a major issue in today s society; suicide is the intentional taking of one s own life
and is a momentous issue that should be addressed as quickly as possible. Teen suicide has been the
topic of numerous news headlines; yet, it still continues to have a detrimental effect on today s youth.
In the United States, suicide is currently the eighth leading cause of death for Americans, and for
young adults between the ages of 15 and 24, suicide is the third leading cause of death. This is
extremely startling due to the fact that teen suicide is one of the most preventable forms of death.
There are quite a number of allegories and misguided common beliefs that surround the subject of
teenage suicide. An example is that people ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

ages, and the results of bullying can be disastrous and devastating; suicide is just one of many
examples of a consequence of bullying. We need to all come together and think of a plan that can help
stop bullying. People don t understand how terrible it feels to get bullied until it happens to them. We
are the ones doing the bullying, whether it s directly or indirectly, so it is up to us to put an end to it.
As previously shown, there are quite a number of myths surrounding the topic of teenage suicide;
when the myths are addressed and made clear, it is easier for people to get a better understanding of
teen suicide and how to deal with it. Many people have come to believe that you cannot tell when
someone is contemplating suicide. They also usually believe that suicide cannot be prevented and
assume that every person that commits or has contemplated committing suicide was suffering from
some form of depression. I know that I was one of these people before I began researching the topic of

are common beliefs, it does not mean they are necessarily correct.

Essay on Urban Legend of Car Headlights
Lights Out
In preparation for this writing assignment, I interviewed about 15 students at the University to collect
their urban legends. One legend, often called Lights Out, was mentioned by just about all of the
students I interviewed. Those who did not mention it on their own recognized it when I described it.
I interviewed a 19 year old male sophomore who anticipates getting into the School of Business. He
transferred from Community College this past fall, and currently lives with a relative in a nearby off
campus home. He went to a small Catholic high school. He recalls first hearing this legend early in
high school, probably between freshman and sophomore year. After telling him the purpose of the

his normal disposition and alerted me that his serious tone earlier was just part of the act. His overall
performance of the legend was similar to that of other students that I interviewed. When telling stories
they seemed serious, but by the end their concern was clearly part of the performance.
Many students I interviewed told me relatively the same story, and one female student even mentioned
receiving an e mail about it years ago. Unlike other urban legends I have heard, this story did not
really change significantly from person to person, perhaps because it is so straightforward. Barbara
Mikkelson provided many examples of this warning story, which is usually spread by e mail or fax.
One such example describes the murders as taking place on a certain weekend:

The Divine Rights Of Kings In The Epic Of Gilgamesh
In ancient times, when humans are in the infant stage of development of human history, humans
understandings of nature are just only based in their imagination. While facing the powerful forces of
nature, people are aware of their own strength is pretty small, and their fate is controlled by an
invisible power they called this unknown force god . With the passage of time, people seem to foresee
the possibility of overcoming nature, and they begin to look forward to their own peers, a powerful
figure, to complete the great cause of beating nature. The emergence of priests shows the beginning of
religion. When it comes to priest, the first thing come up with the most people s mind is The divine
right of Kings in British, which refers to the god empowers Kings with the rights to manage citizens.
Date back to the era of Babylon, the time of the first written form of literature, The Epic of Gilgamesh,
The divine right of Kings had already loomed. In The Epic of Gilgamesh, Gilgamesh, the great king of
Urk in the history, had decreed density of king. He had given the supreme power over people, victory

The Hierarchal Culture Of The Mississippian River Valley...
The Mississippian culture of the Mississippian River Valley is a collection of numerous Native
American tribes that maintained their individual identities while being incorporated into changing
centralized polities from the beginnings of Cahokia in 800 AD to the decline of Moundville in 1400
AD (Blitz 2008: 38). The social complexities and economic systems of the Mississippian peoples have
been highly contested (Wilson et al. 2006; Marcoux 2007; Byers 2013; Cobb 2010; Steponaitis and
Scarry 2016). Some scholars have argued that the social structure was inherently hierarchal, while
others have argued that the polities of Cahokia and Moundville were defined by their heterarchical
structure (Beck 2003; Byers 2013). In addition, the tendency for archaeologists to define
Mississippian polities as chiefdoms has been in flux in recent years due to the rigid nature of the term
in past scholarship (Cobb 2010; Steponaitis and Scarry 2016). The Mississippian peoples are known
for using a corporate kinship based system of group construction (Wilson 2016: 52). A corporate
model assumes the distribution of power across all the social groups of a society (Trubitt 2000: 670).
Often these relationships are reinvigorated through the use of ritual events and monument construction
(Trubitt 2000; Wilson 2010; DeMarrais et al. 1985). In Cahokia, kin groups would come together to
participate in feasting events that would reinstate the bond between the different groups (Blanton et al.

high CPM makes Ad Revenue higher and as a result Net Income becomes $168 million. Net income in
Scenario 2 is $151 million lower than Scenario 3, whereas Scenario 1 has the lowest $77 million.
2) Analyze the segmentation options and discuss pros and cons of each.
Scenario1:
Targeting on women aged 18 to 34, with a cross segment strategy by focusing on on Fashionistas,

Advantages:
Increase in rating from 1.0 to 1.2 with the increase in awareness and viewing of the channel by
investing in a major marketing and advertisement campaign. We can expect promising returns in the
long run with the rise of popularity of the network.
Disadvantages:
While the level competition is getting higher, we cannot wait for the long run, what we need is instant
return for short run. The strategy does not put an end to competition to gain Premium segments so
there is a risk of facing lower CPM. Since there is no real change in viewers type and programming,

Analysis Of Rona Inc. Largest Canadian Distributor And...
RONA Inc is the largest Canadian distributor and retailer of hardware, home renovation and gardening
products. They employ 30,000 people at more than 800 corporate, franchise and affiliate locations
across Canada. Within the last year RONA has undergone significant changes, hiring a new CEO and
choosing to close down several locations, so it is a very interesting period moving forward for the
company. This report will outline RONA s current financial position, current issues that may affect
their position, and give a prediction as to the future performance of the company. It will also analyze
several of RONA s key financial ratios, and compare them to those of Home Depot, a major
competitor in the industry.
As of December 30, 2012, RONA reported $1,311,342,000 in current assets, a majority of which
being inventory and trade and other receivables. RONA carries a lot of inventory due to their
relatively low profit margin and high inventory turnover, who s numbers we explain further later in
this paper. RONA has $813,901,000 in fixed assets, which make up about 29% of their reported
$2,806,458,000 in total assets. This means that RONA does use a fair amount of operating leverage in
their business.
There are a few conclusions we can come to when looking at RONA s current debt and equity. Their
total debt of $922,882,000 and total equity of $1,883,576,000 give them a 0.49 debt to equity ratio.
Also, when comparing total debt to total assets, we come to a figure of 0.33. As is

Arts Integration Research Paper
The idea of arts integration is a topic widely used by arts advocates in schools to gain support and
understanding from the community, though not many people understand what it means, exactly. The
term arts integration is a teaching approach that incorporates the different arts disciplines to direct a
better, and more well rounded learning environment ( Metla). By integrating the arts into learning, the
school systems broaden the traditional ideas of education which then helps to produce a more creative
community. The schools and teachers use different ways to integrate the arts which include using the
arts as their own separate courses or incorporating them into all of the separate classes (Arts Edge).
The decision of which one of the ways will be used, or whether both will be used, is chosen by the
individual schools based on educational standards and money. ... Show more content on

The pairing of arts integration in the classrooms and a structured arts rich learning environment is the
most effective way for students to fully express their creativity and to thrive in academic studies; but,
even though using both tactics is the best way, it is not used as often as the majority of school systems
place a greater importance on standardized testing based subjects. Kennedy Center for the Performing
Arts stated that the integration of the arts is an approach to teaching where the students can construct
and demonstrate an understanding through the usage of an art form. This approach engages the
students in a way that builds their creative processes and connects the subjects together more
cohesively. This cohesion is why arts integration is of importance for the schools systems, which have

The Three Categories Of Civil Peace
With every object that people have and every experience that people go though, they can be
categorized into three categories: needs, wants, and negatives. Wants and needs, the two positive
categories, are prioritized differently by everyone. People often misinterpret some parts of these
categories, believing certain wants are needs and vice versa. For example, some people see makeup as
a need to go outside, it is really just a want. This is how addictions form. When people categorize a
want as need, however subconsciously, they end up truly needing that, whether it be drugs, alcohol, or
even sugar. On the other hand, when people prioritize their wants, they often will be happier in life,

Habeas Corpus Research Paper
Introduction
How powerful is the law? The laws of armed conflict grandly and euphemistically called international
humanitarian law have never been better cultivated by so many jurists, yet somehow hundreds of
thousands of Iraqis managed to die after our 2003 invasion, with a perhaps greater number perishing
due to the economic sanctions between our Gulf Wars (Madar, 2014). Within today s society we have
criminals of all kinds. These criminal s may truly not be criminals, they are just labeled with this term

The United States adopted and ratified Habeas Corpus on September 17, 1787. With the Judiciary Act
of 1789 the U.S. Congress gave the federal courts the power to issue writs of Habeas Corpus. In the
War of 1812, General Jackson declared martial law and took several detainees and blocked their
released even after a writ of Habeas Corpus was issued by a judge. In the 1860 s a civilian named
Lambdin Milligan was sentenced to death in a military proceeding and used a Habeas petition to
challenge President Johnson s military commissions. In this case the Supreme Court ruled Ex Parte
Milligan that the military commissions didn t have any jurisdiction over the civilian and granted him
to freedom. As stated above in 1871 when the Ku Klux Klan Act was passed, President Ulysses S.
Grant suspended the writ of Habeas Corpus due to the several South Carolina counties that began to
riot in rage. Habeas Corpus was suspended in the Philippines in 1902 by President Roosevelt and the
governor of the Philippines due to ongoing rebellion. In 1941 the Congress authorized the governor of
Hawaii to temporarily suspend Habeas Corpus in response to the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor. In
the twentieth century, after the Oklahoma City Bombing, President Clinton signed the Antiterrorism
and Effective Death Penalty Act of 1996, this limited the instances under which a federal court could
issue a habeas writ. Back in

We found no significant difference between the two diet groups in the serum vitamin D levels. A study
of vegan women in Finland found vegans to be deficient in vitamin D intake without supplements or
adequate sunlight exposure through vacations in sunny locations (12). The vegan women in our study
had adequate serum vitamin D levels, which may be the result of 1) incorporating enough vitamin D
in their diets possibly using fortified foods and supplements; 2) they were exposed to adequate
sunlight or 3) a combination of both.
Although reviews of the vegetarian diet (5; 13) warn that deficiencies in several micronutrients are
possible, the only marginal nutrient we found in the vegan group is calcium intake. There are several
possible reasons for this difference. Vegans may be more health conscious, physically more active,
and have a greater understanding of the role of nutrition in general health. As a result, they may also
consume more supplements. Another contributing factor may be the recent increase in commercially
available foods fortified with a wide variety of vitamins and minerals that may lead to higher levels of
intake when whole diets are examined. These results may be somewhat biased compared to the
general population because we studied young adult college women primarily. Another possible
confounding factor is the

Free Will Essay
Many people in the western world hold very dear the idea of independence, that they can think freely,
choose freely, and express themselves freely. This all is connected to the idea of free will that many
believe is what makes us human. Many people cannot, however, define free will. There is always the
feeling that one can do whatever he/she wants. That is probably why this idea is such a pleasing
concept. There is just one serious flaw in the free will concept. People cannot determine everything;
there are some things, even before one is born, that determines who he will be in the future. Since
people do not choose their parents, or the nationality of their family this creates a serious flaw in the
free will concept. Now if people were ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
On another note, the Qur an is often wrongly interpreted as being based on determinism. This is false;
if a life of a Muslim was determined for him/her at birth there would be no point in him/her trying to
find out the nature of his sin, Allah would not have had to send prophets to teach his people the way,
because all their actions would be already determined by them (Gorjian 2010). This suggests that, as
far a religion goes people are free to do as they feel is right. This however does not justify the fact that
governments take away this freedom from their citizens. Governments taking away freedom from
their subjects can be traced back in history, and one the greatest examples for this would be the war of
ideologies known as World War II. Political systems are based on ideas like fascism which helped
Germans in their economic crisis, communism overthrew the Tzars in Russia which gave the
proletariat all the influence they needed, while liberalism promised freedom. This all seems perfect,
however, as it is all well known, there were flaws in each of those systems. Nazis under Hitler were
only nice to a great portion of Germans as they were trying to create the master race. All others: Slavs,
Roma, Jews were hated and discriminated against. In occupied Poland Nazis closed schools, denied
access to education, confiscated automobiles, (Cosby 2010) houses, land and riches.

Loveliness And Love In William Shakespeare s Sonnet 18
In Shakespeare s Sonnet 18, the relationship in lines 1 8 between the young man s loveliness and
temperateness when compared to a summer s day can be connected through the times of the
Elizabethan. When Shakespeare wrote his sonnet it was very common to write with the theme of love
and often weather used to create moods. In this Sonnet, Shakespeare happens to be talking about a
young man of great beauty and promising expression and affection. In this sonnet, he first uses the
word loveliness when comparing to a summer s day. Summer is a romantic month when the sun is up
and lovers can come outside and enjoy the fresh air, yet this young man is even more lovely than this
season. Shakespeare follows this loveliness description mentioning why summer isn t that lovely with
the rough winds do shake the darling buds of May, and Sometime too hot the eye of heaven shines, So
when compared to the summer day, Shakespeare put the man he is describing above it, being even
more lovely than the summer season. Temperateness , his next adjective refers to weather and the
great balance within the young man. Unlike summer, he isn t switching up his weather or oneself with
breezes, hot suns, and clouds.
In the Sonnet, Shakespeare says, And every fair from fair sometimes declines, which means that
beauty doesn t last a person forever. He says that everything loses beauty and is not eternal like a short
summer. He then goes on to say this young man s thy eternal summer

Solar cells, or photovoltaic cells, transform light, usually sunlight, into electric current. Few power
generation technologies are as clean as photovoltaics (PV). Photovoltaic comes from the words photo

or solar cells for short. As it silently generates electricity, PV produces no air pollution or hazardous
waste. It doesn t require liquid or gaseous fuels to be transported or combusted as sunlight is free and
abundant. Because PV systems burn no fuel and have no moving parts, they are clean and silent,
producing no atmospheric emissions or greenhouse gases to cause detrimental effects on our water,
air, and soil. Compared with electricity generated from fossil fuels, each PV produced kilowatt

Essay on Gender and Music Preference
Gender and Music Preference There are so many different forms and genres of music that people
admire. Even older genres that have seemed to die out still have fans such as disco or polka. Many
researchers discuss why people favor the music that they do. This has been a popular topic in music
research considering how important music has become in everyday life. Music is played in the car, on
the internet, on cellphones, and even behind commercials on television. It is hard to imagine a world
without it. Now there are many reasons discussed about why people prefer one kind of music over
another, such as one s age. One s age could determine what music was popular when they were a kid,
or what genres they have been around to experience. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Music genres can be split into categories for what genders are dominating the majority of their
listeners. Heavier music such as rap and rock seem to appeal more to a young male because of the
reoccurring themes of aggression and independence. Whereas lighter music normally involves themes
of emotion and love which a girl can better relate too. As mentioned above, I believe age, ethnicity,
culture, and genetics all play a role in musical preference, but gender should not be left out. While
some believe that music preference all belongs to the individual and not about fitting into the generic
stereotypes. I disagree and believe that gender does take part in the music selection one makes.
Literature Review Kelly D. Schwartz and Gregory T. Fouts created a study set out to examine the
personality characteristics and developmental issues of three different groups of adolescent music
listeners. The first group analyzed was adolescent listeners who preferred light qualities of music. The

heard screaming or seen a man attacking the woman over a period of 30 minutes. Non intervened or
called the police until it was too late. Afterwards, they said that they did not want to get involved or
somebody else would intervene. This incident inspired social psychologists to explore factors that may
influence whether people will help or not in an emergency situation. Study used Latané Darley (1970)
theory of the unresponsive bystander. According to the theory, the presence of other people or just the
perception that other people are witnessing the event will decrease the likelihood that an individual

Participation In Democratic Political Participation
The question why nonprofit organizations exist can be answered in various forms, depending on
which disciplines and orientations one has adopted. In political theory, for instance, nonprofit exists
because of its partnership with the government sector in financing a variety of public services. The
political scientists view both existences in relations to providing opportunities for civic participation in
the pluralistic and political system of a heterogeneous society (Wikipedia, 2017). In order to respond
to the above question, we first and foremost defined democratic political participation. The democratic
political participation is a means by which a person contributes to a political process by making his or
her opinion and beliefs known (Wikipedia, 2017). In addition, it originates from the freedom to speak
out, to assemble, and to associate (Boris, 2017). In assessing the role of nonprofit in democratic
political participation, Elizabeth Clemens considers nonprofit organizations as an entity for building
relationships that holds communities together and provides opportunities for civic participation (Otto
Dicke, 2015). Obviously, nonprofit organizations are renowned for thriving and successful
democracies. Essentially, they assist to build the networks of trust and reciprocity, the social capital
that allows democratic societies to function effectively (Putnam 1993; Walzer 1991). Citizens, on the
other hand, participate in democratic governance by joining together to

What Makes Augustine s Confessions Memorable
Maddie Yamona
Western Civilization II
Mr. Horswell
29 September, 2017
What makes Augustine s Confessions memorable
Augustine s Confessions was a major piece of work that heavily influenced the religion back in his
times. Augustine s Confessions is still read today because of the relatability it shows in aspects of
depression, love, and finding your identity. Throughout the book Augustine goes through his life and
the decisions he has made and how they made him either a better or worse person. We can use
Augustine s Confessions as a tool to also evaluate our own lives and decisions because of the way he
judges himself and what he considers to be the best and worst things he has done and why. Augustine
goes through trying to find himself through things of the world and then finally realizes why he can
not when he steps back and looks at the fact that he must first find himself in God.
Augustine finds himself going through hard times throughout the Confessions and this includes the
struggle with depression. Augustine loses one of his very close friends and begins to become
depressed, I raged and sighed and wept and worried, I could not rest, I could not think intelligent.
(Augustine. 64). When Augustine becomes depressed he says that he does not want to be around
people and people can relate to this because when people are upset they want time to themselves to
think not time around other people. Another example of when Augustine is depressed is when
Augustine realizes how

During the 1920s, in the U.S. economy, stock prices were rapidly rising. Many people saw this as an
opportunity to invest their money into the market, and multiply their cash. Despite warnings of a crash
in the market, people kept on using their money even taking out loans to invest into the rapidly
increasing market. Nevertheless, on October 29, 1929 the stock exchange crashed, and caused panic
throughout the nation. This began an economic downturn that placed pressure on the President of the
United States to fix the situation. Although both Herbert Hoover and Franklin D. Roosevelt were
President during one of the hardest economic times in the nation s history, there are many differences
in the approach each President took to attempt to fix The Great Depression, which caused different
changes in the economy. During Herbert Hoover s time in the White House, is when disaster struck.
Many people, at the time, believed that President Hoover was the ideal person to have in office due to
his background, and knowledge of economics. President Hoover s understanding of economics is what
initially allowed him to predict that a crash in the nation s market was inevitable; yet, did not take any
actions about it because he worried that when the market went down, he would receive the blame.
Nevertheless, when the market bust occurred, President Hoover did take many incentives to attempt to
fix the economy. Primarily President Hoover called on people to engage in voluntary

  • 2. People s Views On Witches People s views on witches have transformed from the pre modern period to today. During the pre modern time, many people believed the Devil carried out evil deeds through witches, but the witches were to blame for all of the misfortunes caused (Kramer and Sprenger 2). The modern era, though, rejects that belief. Today, it is rumored that witches are no longer associated with the Devil, and a witch is anyone at all who performs magic (Bolds 1). The definition of a witch as a whole has transformed completely due to the diversity in opinions. Initially, it appears a witch can be defined as a person who performs magic by conforming to these simple guidelines; however, I argue that a witch is much more complex than that because magic can be used for good or evil in witchcraft. Witchcraft does not directly correspond to religion; however, religions may have certain beliefs about witchcraft. In their pre modern treatise Malleus Maleficarum, Heinrich Kramer and James Sprenger state that witchcraft is futile without the Devil, a witch, and the permission of God (Kramer and Sprenger 12). In the modern text RELIGIOUS: Witches, not what you d expect, Meagan Bolds argues that a person can practice any religion or no religion and still be referred to as a witch. • 3. Private Military Contractors In The Middle East Throughout the Middle East, the use of private military contractors has significantly heightened, due to the call of attacks in these countries. PMC s take up much cost for a country to fund, and the increasing rates are bringing drawbacks onto working citizens. However, there PMC s are also vital in order for a country to maintain its armed security forces. On the other hand, mercenaries are people who take part in armed conflicts. The PMC s hire these mercenaries to work under them in helping take part in hostilities, but receive benefits for their own gains. Recently, the United Nations Mercenary Convention (UNMC) has placed restrictions upon PMC s in the use of mercenaries, in order to create specifications between commercial and government uses of these protection services. Sweden has very little support and funds for the use of these PMC s, due to the lack of high military activity. Current Issues: In the Middle East, and other countries active in their military uses, are raising high questions of controversy against whether or not PMC s should be implemented at an international scale. After these countries in the middle east have been hit with attacks, there has been thought on how to promote entrusted security for the countries. However, the use of these PMC s can lead to security faults in diplomatic officials, and can cause unstable regions throughout a country as we have seen happen in Libya in 2012. On the contrary, PMC s can be ideal in post war ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. Princess Diana Eulogy Analysis On August 31, 1997, Princess Diana died in a fatal car crash while in Paris. Her funeral was held on September 6, 1997, at Westminster Abbey in London, England. Thousands of people attended, while many more watched from their homes. A few of her family members spoke great things about her; however, the eulogy her brother wrote shocked the millions that were watching. According to the Merriam Webster Dictionary a eulogy is a commendatory oration or writing especially in honor of one deceased (Merriam Webster Dictionary). This eulogy written for Princess Diana had many factors that set it apart from typical eulogies, but these aspects made it more effective. A typical eulogy consists of praise, happy memories, stories, and positive personality features of the one deceased. In opposition, this particular eulogy had a negative tone regarding the sadness in her life, as well as blaming the royal family and the paparazzi for her untimely passing. This eulogy used aspects that most speeches, essays, and other forms of writing use, including pathos, ethos, logos, parallelism, imagery, and negative comments toward her unfortunate loss of life. Earl used pathos to appeal to the audience s emotions. He used it to draw the audience in, and get their attention by talking about family. An example of pathos from the eulogy is, These were days I will always treasure. It was as if we had been transported back to our childhood when we spent such an enormous amount of time together ... • 10. Miss Peregrine s Home For Peculiar Children Miss Peregrine s Home for Peculiar Children is a science fiction novel that was presented to the reading world in 2011 by Ransom Riggs. This year the characters of Riggs s novel made their way to the big screen under the direction of Tim Burton. While critics rave about the wonders of Burton s skills to transform the novel into a believable reality, I have some other views. My views dig past the screen and break apart the struggles and decisions Burton made while directing. While I agree with Hoffman, who noted this film is Tim Burton s best in 20 years (2016), there are some scenes that left me confused and upset. To begin breaking down the adaptation, it must first be placed in a category. This category tells us which form of adaptation it is and what we can expect under these circumstances. I, personally, categorize this as a pluralist adaptation. During my screening of the film, I spent a good chunk of my time looking for the analogies and similarities between the two. This made it much easier to pick out the differences that lead me to conclude that the adaptation was pluralist in nature. I also noticed how the film stuck quite closely to the novel s spirit, this made the film more inviting and accurate. Riggs himself said in an interview that [Burton] took the ideas I had and made them bigger and more vibrant than I d imagined (Riggs, 2016). Another characteristic of the film that made it a pluralist adaptation is how much it exists as its own production; yet many ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 12. Energy Deregulation Essay What is energy deregulation? Energy deregulation is the breakup of the utility monopoly in 35 states. Currently only 11 states allow full deregulation which allows consumers and businesses to choose their own electricity and gas providers. Energy deregulation is very similar to the AT T divestiture back in 1984. Consumers businesses were bound to AT T for their local and long distance services regardless of cost. The break up of AT T to Bell companies allow consumers to choose providers such as MCI, Sprint, and other telecommunication companies which allowed increased competition. Energy deregulation will do the same; however the PUC (Public Utilities Commission) of each given state is cautious of the breakup to prevent another Enron catastrophe. Also consumers need to make sure what agreement they sign as contracts are usually determined by fixed and variable rates. Also do not confuse energy deregulation with alternative energy or renewable energy, energy deregulation simply means shopping for electricity gas services through the open market. Being home was similar to being lost, it was a world I wasn t equipped for, and no longer wanted to be apart of. Things at home took such a turn that my mother sent my sister to live in Florida with her father, I knew then I no longer had a purpose to stay. Following this occasion, I started to ask around for places to live, I even went as far as looking for rooms to rent in the area. Generously one of my best friends, Jessica, offered to let me stay with her for the remainder of the school year. She and her parents took me in days later, accepting me with loving arms. Living with my friends family started to become more of a home to me than any home I d lived in prior. This transformation in my life was one of the first in which I allowed myself to be cared for by others. With this I want to explore the idea of trust within my life, and how it has affected me. Trust is something I was taught over time not to believe in, or more importantly I was shown not to believe in. Throughout many of my life experiences I ve learned that trust can only be plausible if my attitudes towards the idea would permit it. The Mississippian culture of the Mississippian River Valley is a collection of numerous Native American tribes that maintained their individual identities while being incorporated into changing centralized polities from the beginnings of Cahokia in 800 AD to the decline of Moundville in 1400 AD (Blitz 2008: 38). The social complexities and economic systems of the Mississippian peoples have been highly contested (Wilson et al. 2006; Marcoux 2007; Byers 2013; Cobb 2010; Steponaitis and Scarry 2016). Some scholars have argued that the social structure was inherently hierarchal, while others have argued that the polities of Cahokia and Moundville were defined by their heterarchical structure (Beck 2003; Byers 2013). In addition, the tendency for archaeologists to define Mississippian polities as chiefdoms has been in flux in recent years due to the rigid nature of the term in past scholarship (Cobb 2010; Steponaitis and Scarry 2016). The Mississippian peoples are known for using a corporate kinship based system of group construction (Wilson 2016: 52). A corporate model assumes the distribution of power across all the social groups of a society (Trubitt 2000: 670). Often these relationships are reinvigorated through the use of ritual events and monument construction (Trubitt 2000; Wilson 2010; DeMarrais et al. 1985). They employ 30,000 people at more than 800 corporate, franchise and affiliate locations across Canada. Within the last year RONA has undergone significant changes, hiring a new CEO and choosing to close down several locations, so it is a very interesting period moving forward for the company. This report will outline RONA s current financial position, current issues that may affect their position, and give a prediction as to the future performance of the company. It will also analyze several of RONA s key financial ratios, and compare them to those of Home Depot, a major competitor in the industry. As of December 30, 2012, RONA reported $1,311,342,000 in current assets, a majority of which being inventory and trade and other receivables. RONA carries a lot of inventory due to their relatively low profit margin and high inventory turnover, who s numbers we explain further later in this paper. RONA has $813,901,000 in fixed assets, which make up about 29% of their reported $2,806,458,000 in total assets. This means that RONA does use a fair amount of operating leverage in their business. There are a few conclusions we can come to when looking at RONA s current debt and equity. Their total debt of $922,882,000 and total equity of $1,883,576,000 give them a 0.49 debt to equity ratio. The term arts integration is a teaching approach that incorporates the different arts disciplines to direct a better, and more well rounded learning environment ( Metla). By integrating the arts into learning, the school systems broaden the traditional ideas of education which then helps to produce a more creative community. The schools and teachers use different ways to integrate the arts which include using the arts as their own separate courses or incorporating them into all of the separate classes (Arts Edge). A study of vegan women in Finland found vegans to be deficient in vitamin D intake without supplements or adequate sunlight exposure through vacations in sunny locations (12). The vegan women in our study had adequate serum vitamin D levels, which may be the result of 1) incorporating enough vitamin D in their diets possibly using fortified foods and supplements; 2) they were exposed to adequate sunlight or 3) a combination of both. Although reviews of the vegetarian diet (5; 13) warn that deficiencies in several micronutrients are possible, the only marginal nutrient we found in the vegan group is calcium intake. There are several possible reasons for this difference. Vegans may be more health conscious, physically more active, and have a greater understanding of the role of nutrition in general health. As a result, they may also consume more supplements. Another contributing factor may be the recent increase in commercially available foods fortified with a wide variety of vitamins and minerals that may lead to higher levels of intake when whole diets are examined. This is false; if a life of a Muslim was determined for him/her at birth there would be no point in him/her trying to find out the nature of his sin, Allah would not have had to send prophets to teach his people the way, because all their actions would be already determined by them (Gorjian 2010). This suggests that, as far a religion goes people are free to do as they feel is right. This however does not justify the fact that governments take away this freedom from their citizens. Governments taking away freedom from their subjects can be traced back in history, and one the greatest examples for this would be the war of ideologies known as World War II. Political systems are based on ideas like fascism which helped Germans in their economic crisis, communism overthrew the Tzars in Russia which gave the proletariat all the influence they needed, while liberalism promised freedom. Loveliness And Love In William Shakespeare s Sonnet 18 In Shakespeare s Sonnet 18, the relationship in lines 1 8 between the young man s loveliness and temperateness when compared to a summer s day can be connected through the times of the Elizabethan. When Shakespeare wrote his sonnet it was very common to write with the theme of love and often weather used to create moods. In this Sonnet, Shakespeare happens to be talking about a young man of great beauty and promising expression and affection. In this sonnet, he first uses the word loveliness when comparing to a summer s day. Summer is a romantic month when the sun is up and lovers can come outside and enjoy the fresh air, yet this young man is even more lovely than this season. Shakespeare follows this loveliness description mentioning why summer isn t that lovely with the rough winds do shake the darling buds of May, and Sometime too hot the eye of heaven shines, So when compared to the summer day, Shakespeare put the man he is describing above it, being even more lovely than the summer season. Temperateness , his next adjective refers to weather and the great balance within the young man. Unlike summer, he isn t switching up his weather or oneself with breezes, hot suns, and clouds. In the Sonnet, Shakespeare says, And every fair from fair sometimes declines, which means that beauty doesn t last a person forever. He says that everything loses beauty and is not eternal like a short summer. He then goes on to say this young man s thy eternal summer ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 41. Participation In Democratic Political Participation The question why nonprofit organizations exist can be answered in various forms, depending on which disciplines and orientations one has adopted. In political theory, for instance, nonprofit exists because of its partnership with the government sector in financing a variety of public services. The political scientists view both existences in relations to providing opportunities for civic participation in the pluralistic and political system of a heterogeneous society (Wikipedia, 2017). In order to respond to the above question, we first and foremost defined democratic political participation. The democratic political participation is a means by which a person contributes to a political process by making his or her opinion and beliefs known (Wikipedia, 2017). In addition, it originates from the freedom to speak out, to assemble, and to associate (Boris, 2017). In assessing the role of nonprofit in democratic political participation, Elizabeth Clemens considers nonprofit organizations as an entity for building relationships that holds communities together and provides opportunities for civic participation (Otto Dicke, 2015). Obviously, nonprofit organizations are renowned for thriving and successful democracies.
