Achievement is something that some people silently compete for, to be better than everyone else. But,
other people strive for achievement like myself, they do not worry about others and try to be best they
can be, for themselves. There are multiple types of achievement, grades and school only impact
certain people, some people have different ideas of achievement and think they do not need schooling
to succeed and learn from just everyday life. There are over achievers, and then there are people who
just do what they need to, to pass a class. I feel that grades do not impact everyone s achievements
because some people do not worry about school and focus more on life achievements. My entire life I
have not worried about grades up until I saw my brother struggling with long division around age 17,
trying to get into the Army. My brother usually had all D and F s for grades; our childhood was not the
best. I do not blame him for his lack of motivation and urge to do better because no one tried to
motivate him, and simply gave up. In 7th grade, I did not worry about grades because everything just
came to me easily, this stayed the same until 10th grade when we started actual work. I struggled with
math and English because when I had the chance to succeed greater things, I just did what I needed to
pass. Now, I have entirely turned around and am on the A or B honor roll every semester since 9th

Comparison of Behaviorism and the Humanistic Approach
It is said that humanistic psychology was developed upon the limitations of behaviourism. The
humanistic approach is often referred to as the third force in psychology coming after psychoanalysis
and behaviourism; it is an alternative approach to psychology (Maslow, 1968). It offered a more
wholesome approach to psychology at the time in comparison to behaviourism and psychoanalysis.
This essay will compare and contrast behaviourism and humanistic psychology; it will focus on their
contributions to psychological theory and their applications in the real world. Why don t we make
what can be observed the real field of psychology (Watson, 1929). Watson (1878 1958) was born into
a poor family in South Carolina. His mother was a religious woman, and his father drank a lot and had
multiple affairs (Watson, 1999). Watson himself married twice, having two children in each marriage.
He didn t seem to have good relationships with his children it is said that one of the main reasons for
this may be because he used his children throughout his research. He studied in the University of
Chicago where he later became known as the founder of Behaviourism. He wrote an essay in 1914
titled Psychology as the Behaviourist views it where he stated that behaviourism is an objective
experimental branch of natural science (Watson, 1914). Behaviourism is a theory of learning that
argues that all behaviours are acquired through conditioning (Carver Scheier, 2012). Behaviourists

Coal Ash Spill
Two years ago, in Eden, North Carolina, thousands of tons of coal ash and twenty seven million
gallons of contaminated water spilled into the Dan River. This coal ash spill is known to be the third
worst coal ash spill to occur in all of the United States. When the waste of coal after it burns(aka coal
ash) is accumlated it is then dumped into a pond. A pipe that was running under a pond which
contained coal ash in it ruptured. This leaky pipe went unnoticed for over two days, and lead to the
contamination of the Dan River, and surrounding ground water in the area. A 48 inch (120 cm) pipe 1
spilled arsenic and other heavy metals into the river for a week, but was successfully plugged by Duke

A) The cosmological argument is to prove the existence of god. In this type of argument we are
looking at cause and not design. This type of argument is an aposteriori argument because it is based
upon experience. Thomas Aquinas puts the key ideas into 3 ways. First way is, motion/change.
Nothing can move by itself or change itself. The first thing to have moved must have been moved by
something else and that thing therefore must be God.

The third way he describes God is by saying that God is necessary and he has the quality of aseity.
The third way is taken from possibility and necessity. We find in nature things that are possible to be
and not to be, since they are found to be generated, and to be corrupted, and consequently, it is
possible for them to be and not to be. Therefore if everything an not be then at one time there was
nothing in existence. (And) it would have been impossible for anything to have begun to exist and
thus even nothing would be in existence, which is absurd. Therefore we cannot but admit the existence
of some being having of itself its own necessity, and not receiving it from another, but rather causing

He is saying that all living creatures depend on something else for its survival. He says that God is not
contingent but the necessary being. If he didn t exist then we wouldn t exist. F C Copleston also agrees
