Summary Of On Going Home By Joan Didion
For the first time in 130 years, more young adults are living with parents until their mid thirties.
Part of this could be an emotional attachment keeping them from leaving home because after
they leave, everything will change. However, many are losing their real sense of home and are
just using it as a place where they can avoid paying bills and many other responsibilities. Many
young adults now do not understand the extensive sacrifice it is to leave their one and only
home. In On Going Home, Joan Didion expounds on her struggle to connect with her current
house, in a nostalgic and resigned tone, and vivid imagery, symbolism, and comparison Didion
expresses the regret she feels every time she remembers she left her home . The essay it s based
on the time Didion visited her parents home to celebrate her daughter s 1 year old birthday.
Throughout the visit Didion couldn t help but feel resentment to leave her home . Didion stated
that she came to dread my husband s evening call because she didn t want to go back to Los
Angeles or even be reminded of it (2). Didion wishes she could stay in her home where she is
completely happy. We find her desperately looking around the house for her past around every
corner, inside every cupboard she aimlessly goes from room to room looking for something she
once lost and will never get back (2). Didion feels the need to reconnect with her familyand,
although not stated, Didion longs to go back in time and prevent

The Truth Behind The Columbine Shooting
America s star detective Michael Moore has done it again! In this edition, he uncovers the truth
behind the Columbine shooting, and exposes the real menaces of America s society. Or this is
what we are led to believe...
The Columbine Shooting has solidified itself as a tragic event in America s past, and was a real
wake up call to the nation s age old gun problem. Michael Moore looks into this issue and decides
it provides a great premise for his next documentary, his next crusade to flush out the evils of this
world. The problem is, Bowling for Columbine is far from the truth; it is rather a distorted
representation of reality, carefully sequenced to push Michael Moore s agenda. If we look past the
film techniques, conspiracy theories, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To offer an explanation as to how America got to this barbaric stage , an animated short, courtesy
of Matt Stone is played, which takes a satirical approach to the story of America s gun laws. The
general idea put across from this segment is that America s obsession with guns has transpired
from a fear of the black man; where it even went as far to suggest that the KKK negotiated with
the NRA to restrict black people s possession of a firearm. Moore then proposes that this fear has
appeared in many different forms, and that of which has been orchestrated by the government and
large corporations to boost consumerism. A hypothesis like this does seem plausible, however
there is no tangible evidence to reinforce this claim, just a lot of emotional appeal.
The majority of the documentary is spent proving this theory that Moore has ingeniously
managed to synthesise. Whether it is fear of the black man during slavery, fear of terrorists after
9/11 or fear of teenagers after the Columbine Shooting; there is always a reason for America to
worry. Moore shows us that when people are scared, they look for ways to protect themselves,
causing them to spend money; shown by the increase in homeland security after 9/11, which also
was apparently caused by the CIA supplying Osama Bin Laden with weaponry and tactical training
that was later used against the USA. He then investigates the media s role in inflating these issues,
stirring the

Risk Reduction Techniques in Management Decision Making
Risk Reduction Techniques in Management Decision Making
11/3/2009
1. Sensitivity Analysis
This is a technique that shows how different variables affect the value of a particular variable. For
example, it shows the affect on profit following a change in sales price and/or volume.
Pros:
Sensitivity analysis shows the sensitivity of economic payoffs to uncertain values such as discount
rates. Management can see the profitability of a project if input values change [ (Marshall, 1995) ].
It is easy to use and understand. Therefore it is most useful when more advanced and time
consuming techniques are not possible. Management can see which factors are the most influential
in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Therefore the decisions for management should be easier to make. Knowing the exact cost
structure would allow the firm to use CVP analysis reliably.
Cons:
Perfect information means all uncertainty is removed. This is rarely achievable and therefore this
concept is more theoretical than practical. Information is also costly to attain.
6. Simulation
Simulation is a technique for studying a system that involves setting up a model of the real system
and then performing experiments on the model rather than on the system. It is used in problems
like inventory control and production planning.
Pros:
The simulation model can be used to test different alternatives that would be too expensive or
impractical to perform on the real system. Simulation is useful where other analytical techniques
are not applicable. Simulation is cheaper and less risky than altering the real system [ (Lucey,
2002) ].
Cons:
The models are complex and therefore they can take up significant amounts of managerial and
technical time. Computer expertise is also required and this may not be available [ (Lucey, 2002) ].
Simulations do not always result in the optimal outcome. The manager makes the decision based on
the tested alternatives. The optimal decision may not have been tested. Simulations are not relevant
to all management decisions.

Experiment 2. Newton s Third Law
INTRODUCTION
Newton s Third Law is one of the fundamental symmetry principles of the universe which states
that For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction [1] .In simple words it means that for
every action there is a reaction, which is equal to the magnitude of the force applied but opposes the
direction of the action.
EQUIPMENT
2 toy trucks of the similar type
2 equal weights of 0.5 kg each
2 Force Sensors CI 6746
Data Studio Software for data analysis
Resolution of the force sensor:
0.03 N or weight of 3.1 gram mass
Procedure of examination of force sensors:
The two force sensors (CI 6746) that are mounted on the toy trucks are connected to the Data
Studio Interface. Truck 1 is connected to Channel A and Truck 2 is connected to Truck2. Before
taking the readings, the TARE button located on top of the sensors was pressed in order to zero
the readings. To confirm the proper working of the sensors the trucks are pushed but not made to
collide and a straight line graph is observed. The sample rate set for the experiment is 200 Hz,
which is not as slow as 10 Hz or not very fast as 1000 Hz. This enables us to acquire accurate
results during the course of the experiment.

The Case Of Epperson V. Arkansas
In the wake of the Scopes trial in Tennessee, the State of Arkansas passed an anti evolution
statute in 1928, that made it illegal to teach the theory or doctrine that mankind ascended or
descended from a lower order of animals, or to adopt or use in any such institution a textbook
that teaches the doctrine or theory that mankind ascended or descended from a lower order of
animal. Forty years later, the case of Epperson v. Arkansas (1968) was argued before the Supreme
Court. The case originated in 1965, when Susan Epperson was hired to teach 10th grade biology at
Little Rock Central High School. The local school board had recently adopted, as a part of an
approved curriculum, a new biology textbook that included a section on evolution. Immediately,
Epperson recognised her dilemma; that to teach the required curriculum would put her at risk for
dismissal under the anti evolution statute. A suit was filed to challenge the constitutionality of the
statute, and the State Chancery Court of Pulaski County ruled that the statute was unconstitutional.
This ruling was overturned by the Arkansas Supreme Court in 1967. Upon appeal, the U.S.
Supreme Court held that: Arkansas law cannot be defended as an act of religious neutrality.
Arkansas did not seek to excise from the curricula of its schools and universities all discussion of
the origin of man. The law s effort was confined to an attempt to blot out a particular theory
because of its supposed conflict with the Biblical

Alliteration In The Chimney Sweeper
The Chimney Sweeper is a poem written by William Blake (1757 1827). His main aim is to
expose the social defects in his age and the vices which afflict his society and to confront his
readers with the dreadful suffering of the working paupers. According to Blake, the chimney
sweeping life is not a life at all; the labourer children have lost their childhood, their freedom, and
their innocence. He criticizes the victimisation of children and the injustice of this oppressive
labour. He shows how Tom; the chimneysweeper and other children suffer from long hard labour in
addition to physical and psychological abuse. Blake insists that these children are living in abject
and inhumane conditions of deprivation, misery and humiliation... Show more content on

Blake tries to make the reader feels sympathy with those children. He creates sympathy and sharp
awareness for chimney sweeper s conditions. This might remind us that these kids face an early
death and also shows us that in many ways, they re dead already; they have lost their childhood,
their freedom, and their innocence. They re forced to live a black life, covered in soot and facing
a premature death. He reveals the dangers of the job of chimney sweeping and the exploitation of
children. These children are victims as they are abused physically and psychologically. Blake uses
the child s inability to form speech to show the injustices of putting such young children in such a
dangerous work. Blake also blames humanity in general for allowing and encouraging such a
dangerous and inhumane

Genetic Mutation And Its Effects
Genetic Mutation in C. elegans and its Affect
INTRODUCTION
Caenorhabditis elegans (C. elegans) are transparent roundworm, that range about 1mm in length
and lack a respiratory and circulatory system. C. elegans is a model organism in genetics, its short
life cycle, ease of cultivation, small size, and high cell number and development makes it an easy
animal to use in experiments (International Journal of Molecular Science). In this experiment, two
strains of worms will be used. Virgin hermaphrodite and him 8 males, which will be the wildtype.
Him 8 strain is being use in this experiment because this gene has an increased rate of X
chromosomes, giving a forty percent change of producing male and sixty percent chance of
hermaphrodite. This will help produce wildtype and mutant genes in the genetic offspring of the
two. Hermaphrodites can be distinguishing from the male counterpart because they have wispy
threadlike structure for their tail, whereas male have a blunt end tail. (C. elegans as a genetic
organism) The tails are a great way in telling the difference between these two mutant strain. When
crossing these two strain together, the hypothesis that was made would be that we would find more
male mutation of an offspring because the male strain is a more recessive gene trait. Dumpy A with
a phenotype of dyp 10, this affects body shape and movement, causing the worm to be half of the
normal length but the same width, which causes a stumpy effect.

Mortenson Character Analysis
Although there is much controversy surrounding Mortenson and the CAI, in the novel, Three
Cups of Tea by Greg Mortenson and David Oliver Relin, Mortenson is portrayed as hero. In 1993
he had attempted to climb K2 and failed, which led him into an impoverished village of Pakistan
named Korphe. In Korphe, he had promised to build a school in return of their kindness and their
time taken to put him back in good health. Mortenson had eventually raised enough money to build
the school. Afterwards, Mortenson and Jean Hoerni created the Central Asia Institute to continue
building schools in Pakistan. Mortenson faced many obstacles but never gave up on building
schools and expanded his vision to build schools in Afghanistan as well. The outside world

Essay about Beowulf as a Messianic Narrative
Beowulf as a messianic narrative has been a subject of great controversy. Given the time period,
Christianity was not completely established, and it was entwined with cultural paganism, as seen
woven throughout the text. The definition of a messianic narrative (containing the ultimate
messianic figure) is found in Isaiah53, a prophecy spoken by God through the Hebrew prophet
Isaiah. This is the standard to which Beowulfmust be compared to determination the nature of the
poem. Many scholars such as Harold Bloom (quoting E. Talbot Donaldson), Roberta Frank, Rich
Lawson, Seamus Heaney, and J. R. R. Tolkien (quoting R. W. Chambers) have critically viewed
Beowulf to determine the nature of the epic, resulting in a diverse range of... Show more content on

Bloom and Donaldson argue that whilst Christian elements are present, heroic paganism is more
prevalent in Beowulf. This is supported by the death of Beowulf, reading, of all the world kings,
[he was] keenest for fame, summarising Beowulf, and suggesting his life only amounted to self
glorification.
In assessing the Christianity of Beowulf, Frank suggests that, like King Alfred did of Remiguis s
commentaries, the author of Beowulf used pagan analogies for Christian concepts. Lawson
explores this in the role fate has throughout the poem. The Geat prince placed all his trust in...his
Maker s favour, Then Beowulf speaks, The Father...shall apportion the honours...to whichever
side shall seem to Him fit, . The poet wrote, Fate had not assigned him the glory of battle, . The
composer s personification of Fate portrays the place it has taken God s place. Lawson writes of
this, The pagan concept of fate...is tied to God, suggesting that Beowulf is resigned to fate, but the
author is using this to illustrate the nature of God. Frank also states, What matters is how the
rulers...served God s purpose, , also calling Beowulf a, Pagan prince of peace, . While Beowulf
demonstrates a pagan trust in fate, Lawson and Frank believe it was the author using paganism to
convey the messianic narrative, and that Beowulf was instrumental in doing so.
In analysing Beowulf, Lawson concluded it was a messianic narrative including a messianic figure,

My story is one that starts before birth. After all I was born in 30 weeks. My mom(Bella), had a
difficult pregnancy. At 5 months and half Bella started bleeding. The doctor s found out that she
had full placenta praevia. Full placenta praevia is complication in which the placenta is inserted
partially or wholly in lower uterine segment. This blocks the baby to be born naturally and
causes the mother bleeding. Bella would bleed every day and was in the emergency room five
times because of the constant bleeding. The fifth and final time Bella fainted and found herself in

something to say and when I was upset I would throw my bottles at innocent civilians. If you did
not get out of the way the, I aimed well, so the bottle would hit them in the face. I was in time
out and spanked numerous of times. My Great aunt, Tia Dora, whom we call Yaya babysat me
for most of my childhood before pre K. One time she cooked for me like she always did, but I
didn t like it. I knocked the food off the table and onto the floor. Another time while being
babysat Yaya left on a quick errand. My great grandmother, her mom(Kuki) was in charge of
watching me. She didn t let me do something so I was furious at her. Kuki had a fake plant that
she adored because a grandson gave it to her. Since, we were on the second floor of a two story
house I threw the plant off the balcony and it broke. Kuki did not know that the plant was
broken so my great uncle(Tio Paco) bought a new one as if nothing happened. Bella says I was
sweet despite my actions during the terrible twos. When Bella would not feel well I would
check on her, I wanted to know if she was fine. Winnie the Pooh is my favorite stuffed animal.
Pastora Amanda, gave Pooh Bear to me for my 1st birth day. I still have Pooh Bear with me. He
is currently on the second shelf above my desk in my room on campus. Pooh Bear and I have been
through everything together. We have a ceiling fan in my room at home.

Literary Influences Of Shakespeare
Context Due to Shakespeare having a big influence on literature, even today, many literary
works are related to Shakespeare. Authors incorporate Shakespeare s writing in some way and
change things a bit to make their own story. Reflection In literature class, we could apply this
concept because many literary works are influenced by Shakespeare and other writings, which
we can use to make connections and it can be considered as a text to text situation. A film called
West Side Story is just like Romeo and Juliet because in both of the stories there are two rival
groups and one person form one group falls in love with a person from their rival group. These
two stories have common elements such as the rival gangs, and the type of love. Context The
Bible is well recognized book, which has many allusions in it. The writers use these references to
make it more meaningful. Reflection In literature class, we could apply this concept because
allusions can create a lot of imagery, which adds more meaning to it. Religious or biblical
references can also be used for irony. Allusions add hidden and deep meaning, due to the fact it s
an indirect reference. For example, in the book Macbeth, Shakespeare uses the Golgotha as an
allusion. Context Many writers integrate other literary works into their writing. It helps readers
understand what s going on more by connecting some of the events and themes to the fairytales.

Profit Margins Case Study
New employment agencies dealing with temp and contract workers face no shortage of challenges
regarding profit margins. You need to meet your overhead costs (office rent and supplies, admin,
compliance, etc.) and ensure that your team is securing target numbers for placements made.
The better you are at keeping your employment agency profit margins strong, the better the chances
you have at becoming an agency that can compete with the big staffing firms. But it s not as
simple as becoming more frugal with your expenses and setting aside large amounts of your
financing to account for concrete costs. Keeping profit margins generous is dependent on how well
you can handle the more changeable costs, like statutory holiday pay or new business laws, ... Show

If your workers are kept for overtime work or are scheduled to work during holidays, you need

Because of the above situations and more we advise that you consider payroll financing solutions.

Celiac Disease And Celiacs Disease
Celiacs disease (gluten sensitive enteropathy) is a condition where in some people, gluten cannot be
digested and causes an immune response. Gluten is a protein found in wheat, barley, oats, and rye.
In some people who take in and ingest gluten, an enzyme named transglutaminase transforms the
gluten into a chemical that triggers an immune reaction, causing irritation and inflammation of the
lining of the small intestine (Wedro, 2016). The microvilli that make up the inside surface of the
intestine are destroyed, causing nutirents to pass without being, like our body needs from our diet.
This can cause damage to other organs in the body due to malabsorption. (Wedro, 2016) Organs
that depends the most on nutrients to function properly consist of the liver, bones and the brain.
This is crucial especially in children because malnutrition can lead to abnormal growth and
development. (Wedro, 2016) Celiacs disease can also be known by Coeliac Disease. Roughly 8,000
years after its first appearence, celiacs disease was identified and named. A Greek physician
named Aretaeus of Cappadocia who lived in the first century AD, wrote about The Coeliac
Affection. Also, he called it koiliakos after the Greek word koelia meaning abdomen. (Guandalini,
2007) Another 17 centuries passed, and in the early 19th century Dr. Mathew Baillie, presumably
unaware of Aretaeus, published his observations on a chronic diarrheal disorder regarding adults,
causing malnutrition and characterized by a

President Obama rewards the Ayatollah by delisting his financial empire
Because of the sunset clauses in the JCPOA, the ultimate success of the nuclear deal depends on
transformation of the Iranian regime over the next decade from a hardliner revolutionary regime to
a moderate one. Surprisingly, the JCPOA removes the supreme leader s financial empire from the
sanction list on the implementation day. The Ayatollah has used this exclusively controlled
financial industrial conglomerate to pursue his hardline policy of supporting terrorist groups in the
region, oppressing dissidents in Iran and demanding annihilation of Israel. Removing these entities
guarantees prosperity of Supreme Leader s financial empire in the Post sanction Iran. Therefore,

Matthew Shepard Analysis
Society s view on sexuality has played a pivotal role in the equality of the gay community. Their
existence is often ignored as there is a stigma against their lifestyle and those who choose to reveal
their identity are either attacked or shunned away. The fatality of Matthew Shepard during the late
90s proved to show that some parts of society had not yet accepted homosexuality. Whether or not
acceptance is relevant today, the play works to address the issues of sexuality through Matthew and
have the audience understand the reality of the lives tormented by hate.
Shepard s character reveals to the audience the issues of sexuality by serving as a martyr for the
gay community. Sadly his death would then only bring the attention needed to recognize anti gay
hate crimes and awaken the movement needed to replace hate with understanding and
acceptance. As an audience, we regrettably understand that when a tragic event occurs, only then
do we decide to act. Most people are unaware that they have the power to prevent hate crimes by
educating their communities about sexuality and taking away the dogmatic view that only
heterosexuality is normal. One could think of Matthew as a Christ figure, whom he is sacrificed
for the sake of change considering that his death received national attention to anti gay
sentiment. Throughout history there have been worse crimes but never received as much
attention as Laramie. To have one person represent the struggles of the gay community is not
acceptable and the audience needs to understand that there will be more crimes. The residents
Laramie declare they have a live and let live mentality as opposed to the rest of Wyoming.
Whether this mentality is relevant for the rest of the United States, it reaches out to the audience
to question whether they feel the same as those in Laramie. As a society, we choose to avoid
people who don t fit our agenda and as long as they don t come in contact with us, we are ok with
them. This type of mentality is more of a silent treatment. The indifference can be shown by
characters such as Sherry Johnson, wife of a police officer. While she does express sympathy for
Matthew Shepard, she also feels that he is granted a special privilege for

Metaphors In The King James Bible

Metaphors in the King James Bible The King James Bible is a translation of the Bible. Older
translations were more difficult to comprehend. As a result, King James demanded that a new
translation be made to better accommodate the readers. In this translation, metaphors and other
literary devices are presented. In the King James Bible, metaphors are used to provide examples of
God s teachings, to help the audience obtain a better understanding of the text, and to evoke readers
into remembering the wise expressions displayed.
Metaphors, in the King James Bible, are considered to be examples of God s teaching. For

The Australian Healthcare System Has Been Evolving Since...
Introduction The Australian healthcare system has been evolving since the beginning of the
colonisation of Australia. Today, Australia has an extremely efficient healthcare system although it
still has several issues. The influencing factors, structure, and current issues of the Australian
healthcare system will be throughly discussed and explained in this essay.
Influencing Factors When Australia was first colonised, health services were considered to be an
issue to be dealt with by local governments (Evolution of Government Involvement in Health Care,
n.d.). In 1901, the Constitution made health care the responsibility of the state governments and
stated that the Federal Government was only in charge of quarantine issues (Evolution of ... Show

In 1928, a national health insurance scheme was proposed but not implemented because it would
have required businesses to provide contributions to health insurance for their employees (Evolution
of Government Involvement in Health Care, n.d). Another national health insurance scheme was
proposed in 1938 but it was also rejected (Evolution of Government Involvement in Health Care,
n.d; Hilless Healy, 2001). The next proposal was the 1945 Pharmaceuticals Benefits Act. This Act
was not implemented because the Australian Medical Association challenged it in the High Court
of Australia and it was decided that parliament had exceeded its constitutional power (Hilless Healy,
2001). In 1946, under the Hospital Benefits Act, the Commonwealth began to subsidise public
hospitals under the condition that patients would not be charged (Evolution of Government
Involvement in Health Care, n.d; Hilless Healy, 2001). This act is similar to the current Medicare
system. Australia s first national health plan was introduced in 1950 (Evolution of Government
Involvement in Health Care, n.d). Five years after the first attempt at a Pharmaceutical Benefits
Act, the Australian Government implemented the 1950 Pharmaceutical Benefits Act, which is still
in effect today (Hilless Healy, 2001). In 1953, the National Health Act was introduced by The

Organized Crime In The 1920s Essay
After World War I, the attitude of Americans in the United States changed drastically. For the first
time, more people lived in cities than in rural areas (Danzer 640). Trends including superficial fads,
professional sports, new types of music, and the idea of celebrities represented the establishment of
pop culture during the Roaring 20s (Fagnilli 46). Challenging the values and practices of the
traditional American, many individuals, usually young people, introduced casual dating, more
revealing clothing, birth control, and new styles of dancing (Fagnilli 45 46). Although the 1920s
were considered the good times, there was a darker side to this era, including a rise in
unemployment, organized crime, and an irrational fear of communism. In the 1920s, many citizens
were left without a job as unemployment rates increased. During World War 1, the United Stateshad
established a butter to guns policy, meaning they shifted much of the production of consumer
goods to production of war materials (Fagnilli 39). However, most of the nine million people who
had worked in war... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

18th Amendment was disregarded by many Americans, who opened secret drinking clubs called

of crime organizations (Sullivan). Many of these organizations specialized in bootlegging alcohol,
usually from Canada or the Caribbean (Sullivan). The Chicago Outfit, a criminal network led by Al
Capone, often literally killed off their competition, massacring members of rival gangs and crime
organizations (Sullivan). Eventually, many came to believe Prohibition was the cause of these
problems, and the 18th Amendment was repealed by the 21st Amendment in

Microfridge
A
Report on
Microfridge: The Concept
Introduction:
Robert Bennett, a 31 year old Master in Engineering, decided to quit his job and start a business
with his new concept of the Microfridge . This was a design that incorporated a refrigerator,
freezer and microwave into a single compact unit. He created a new electronic circuit in which the
refrigerator shut down while the microwave operated and vice versa.
Analysing the Microfridge:
This 3 in 1 device consumed only 10 amps as opposed to the usual 20 amps while using a
refrigerator and microwave simultaneously. This generated less heat and reduced the risk of fire. It
was a compact device that occupied less space which was ideal for smaller rooms such as student
dorms and motel ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Assuming an average of 200 students per college and a conversion rate of 50%, Bennett would
need to target 120 colleges in a year.
Recommendation and Plan of Action:
To increase the customer perceived value of the product, the idea of partnering with Sanyo and
using their brand name to promote the Microfridge could be explored. This would also help to
tap in the market already available to Sanyo. As Sanyo is an older and more recognized brand, it
would create trust and generate a greater brand following and value.
Considering the potential competition the Microfridge may face, a comprehensive promotion
strategy needs to be developed keeping the individual targets in mind. While the eagerness of the
students to adopt the Microfridge can be leveraged to convince the administration to provide
Microfridge as an amenity, various other promotion strategies can be considered. Bennett should
send out sales persons to colleges and arrange meetings with the administration to create awareness
of the Microfridge and its demand amongst the students. As the primary concern of the
administration was fire safety in student dormitories, the fact that 90% of the students violate these
norms by using hot plates needs to be highlighted. Then the fact that the Microfridge would reduce
these risks can be brought home.
A public relations program can be initiated where the Microfridge can be reviewed by the press.

Siddhartha And Buddha Comparison Essay
Neil Patel Period 2 Oct. 4, 2014
Parallels between Siddhartha and Buddha
Most readers often get confused with the book Siddhartha, as most initially presume the book after
reading for a little bit, that the main character is Buddha. However, this is not the case; the main
character, Siddhartha, shares the same name as the original Buddha, an element Herman Hesse
included to help the readers make the initial connection between the two characters in the book,
though it may get confusing. Though, the two characters only share a name at this point, there
are many more parallelisms between their lives and personalities. Both Siddhartha and Buddha
had motivation to leave their homes at an early age. Buddha s early life was filled with opulence
so that he, as a boy, would be distracted and unaware of the miseries and suffering of the world (A
E Television Networks, Buddha). Siddhartha s early life was a little different from Buddha s, but
in the sense of not knowing the truths of the world, very similar. Siddhartha s father, a religious

Bill Gates was not always successful; in fact, he began as a failure. He dropped out of Harvard

to show that anyone can achieve anything. Back in 10th grade, I found out about a sport known as

The complete results of the study can be found in the American Medical Association journal. The
study results are criticized by some arguing the accuracy of the numbers. This is mostly because
many countries have different values and most are not openly willing to admit to mental illness.
In addition, other countries do not allow the freedom of speech or public opinion. It is because of
these and other hidden stigmas that vary from country to country researchers believe the numbers
reported may actually be higher. In the United States this is not as great of an issue since mental
disorders have been publicized greatly in recent years. This means there is a strong possibility
America might not rank as high in mental disorders when compared to other countries. One thing
all countries studied had in common is the lack of treatment in serious cases which only make
matter worse. Lack of access to health care is the primary reason for under treatment also most
insures do not cover mental health. Insurance companies have recently given more attention and

Compare And Contrast Toddlers And Teenagers
Toddlers and teenagers, when it comes to these two there are both similarities and differences.
They both are similar because they need structure, their moody and emotions, they strive for
independence, and they are always taking risks. There are also some differences between the two
because of the way you have to communicate with them, discipline, and how much attention is
needed to each one. When it comes to the two, all of these differences contribute to ho they grow
up. Each child is different in their own way, and so are the technics of how you interact with them.
Toddlers and teenagers can be so moody and emotional. The reason for this is because toddlers are
still growing, and so is their brain. They can t express how they feel therefore they react in the only
way they know how and that is through emotion. They rely on emotion to communicate. If they are
tired, hungry, sick, and or possibly need to be changed they cry, or become extremely cranky.
Teenagers are moody and emotional because they are going through so much change. Their
hormones are going crazy and they are also in school with a lot of other kids and they tend to act
like the people they are around. They are moody sometimes for no reason.
Independence is what both want. Toddlers strive to do things on their own even though they cannot.
They want to brush their teeth, get dressed, or walk to class alone. Teenagers want independent,
because they are at the age where they will eventually become a young

Far off in a meadow, on a warm day in May, a very special, little cottontail was born. One look at
him and his mother, Blossom, knew right away, that he was extra special. Even though she thought
him perfect in every way. He didn t look like any of the cottontails she had ever seen before.
Hmmmm....All of the other new cottontails I ve seen have been pink and wrinkly. And they ve had

Then the warm, golden sun started beaming over her. That let her know that it was noon and time

But, she knew that it was something that she had to do. And that she had to be brave.
She peaked out of her nest and looked this way and that. And she saw no danger. She wiggled her

And she sensed no danger.

Analysis Of Robert Hayden s Those Winter Sundays
Showing love and gratitude goes a long way in strengthening relationships and makes us better
understands the sacrifices others make on our behalf. In those winter Sundays, Robert Hayden
stated a lot with very few words. This was possible due to brilliant use of imagery, metaphor and
sound. His striking words invoke thoughts in the mindof the reader of this dedicated father, up
alone exposed to the harsh elements who works hard each day to make his familycomfortable,
however they don t value his acts of good will, nor did they give him any credit. In many cases,
we glance back at one point in our lives with lament. We feel that had it been, what we currently
know, we knew back then we would have made different choices, things would... Show more

Great use of imagery throughout the poem really emphasized Hayden s message. Hayden
recollects the memory of this specific Sunday morning. Using the word too suggests that the
father rises early consistently, regardless of what day it is. He dresses in the severe cold. His hands
have cracks because of the cold weather and the grueling work that he does each day.
When his dad turns on the chimneys and stoves, to make the house warm for his loved ones. His
striking words make me invoke thoughts in my mind of this persevering dad up alone wide
open to the harsh elements. When he noted his dads, hands were cracked, and that they ached it
was a great use of imagery. This was used to portray how hard working he was, as well as a symbol
for all the agony and inconvenience he was willing to bear for his family.
Hayden depicted sounds and in addition pictures in the same elucidating way when he wrote I
awoke and heard the cold splintering, breaking. Possibly, what Hayden heard was cracking
noises that came from the fire or ice softening off the windows. In any case, this decision of
imagery is utilized to show the devotion of his dad. He was willing to go out in the cold to break
the ice of the windows for those he cared about. Furthermore, Hayden s inclusion of the word
blueback cold, was to stress that the sun has not started to

pictures as well. Furthermore I would also like to make more categories based on text and the
words used in the dictionary, but firstly the focus is on visual representation. Different changes
in the images can be categorized as well. Based on the personal exploration, I have come to list
the following categories: 1. Gender roles (family roles, occupational stereotypes) 2.
Representation of different ethnic groups 3. Religious references 4. Political reference To start
with gender roles I would like to explain a little more what results the research come up with.
Firstly, the typical gender roles in the 1963 edition were the old , conservative stereotyping of
sexes. Probably the most striking example for this can be found in the kitchen of the rabbit house
. In the 1963 edition it is only mother rabbit that is standing at the stove in the kitchen, stating the
stereotypical role of a woman, to do the housework. However, in the 1991 edition the image had
been revised. It is not only the household equipment that has been renewed, but father rabbit
appears with mother rabbit in the kitchen as well. Moreover he is there to help in preparing for
breakfast, so now the male member of the

Use of Language in Immigration
USE OF LANGUAGE IN IMMIGRATION RHETORIC
1.0 Introduction
American society has developed as a result of continued waves of immigration. It therefore seems
logical that Americans should have positive attitudes towards immigration. Immigration allows for
sharing of ideas and cultures within society. However, in recent years, the trend of undocumented
immigration has taken an effect on the economic and social development of American society.
During the debates in the fun up to the 2013 elections, the democrat and republican candidates are
finding themselves locked over divisive opinions on the issue. This paper discusses the effects of
language in immigration rhetoric on the perception held by people about immigration. Different
words presented to the public in different ways (positive or negative) imply their own meanings.
2.0 Stereotyping and Negative Attitudes about Immigrants
The use of language with reference to this phenomenon has potential for influencing social attitudes
towards immigrants and is therefore being discussed on the media. According to Bennion, the use
of the term alien is the acceptable way to describe foreigners who have entered the United States
without proper documentation. The use of terms like illegal immigrants or undocumented
immigrants is erroneous because it acknowledges their status as immigrants. In addition, the use of
terms such as illegal is also better avoided. Such terms are loaded with negativity and are likely to
build negative

Examples Of Tragic Hero In The Play Fences
Almost every story includes a hero and their struggle to balance being a hero and being
themselves. Some stories involve a tragic heroes: heroes who strive to be the best they can be,
but ultimately end up failing in the end they are a hamartia. In the play and screen play Fences,
Troy Maxson is a middle aged black man living in the 1950 s, struggling to get by any way he
can. He works hard, provides for his family, and enjoys having a good time with his best friend,
yet everything thing he does comes with the reminder that is himself who makes everything
possible. Throughout the movie and play, Troy is meant to be portrayed as a tragic herobut he
ultimately misses the mark by caring more about himself than others and intimidating the people
whom he is closest to. This contrasts with a tragic heros ability to fail innocently.... Show more

A tragic hero strives to do the right thing for everyone s sake, but ends up failing, however Troy
only cares about doing the right things for himself. In the play, Troy cheats on his wife, Rose,
with another woman, Alberta. He says that Alberta allows him to, be a different man (pg. 1093) .
As Troy and Rose are arguing about the affair, Rose is fighting for their marriage, while Troy doesn
t really care what happens to it. He then decides to continue to see Alberta, while he is committed
to Rose. It is Troy s conscious decision to continue seeing another woman. If Troy was a tragic
hero, he would know that this action was wrong and feel remorseful, but Troy expresses no
regret. Instead, he continues to see Alberta. Troy does not care about what is right or what is
wrong, he just does what he wants. Therefore, Troy should not be considered a tragic hero because
his decisions are made considering only himself, regardless of how the consequences may affect

Public Relations Assistant Experience Paper
The aim of this paper is to discuss and elaborate on the experience, insights, value, and practical
training gained throughout my internship as a Public Relations Assistant at Louisiana Delta
Community College with the Director of Public Relations Mrs. Darian Atkins. As the director, she
develops and executes strategies that create and uphold a positive public image for the college and
Chancellor Dennis Epps by working and forming relationships with various members of the media,
government, and public. As the assistant, I acted as the support for Mrs. Atkins by researching to
construct stories and press releases, completing administrative tasks, and photographing events.
The paper is divided into three points of learning. The first point ... Show more content on

In addition, Mrs. Atkins enlightened me that with any friction, you must have a plan to maintain
the company s status. For example, she made a chart on the steps to take to ensure that the college s
image did not diminish and that including faculty and staff is critical. Although confidentiality is
good, you cannot misinform the media because that could lead to a disaster.
Second Point: Adobe Creative Suite
My first attempt with Adobe Creative Suite was during my practicum. Ms. Castillo showed me a
few tasks in Photoshop, but entering the intern, I was introduced to more such as InDesign and
Illustrator. Mrs. Atkins ordered me to use only Adobe because it was a great technical skill to have
and most businesses use it today.
Before using it on my own, she had me examining her tool with the program to get better
knowledge of it. One day after an event, we went to edit photos in Photoshop to post them on
Facebook. During editing, she explained when printing an image, you must save it in CMYK to
make the image s colors stay true. CMYK refers to the four inks used in some color printing: cyan,
magenta, yellow, and key (black). However, if you are posting it for social media purpose, it is best
to save in RGB. The RGB color model is an additive color model in which red, green and blue light
are added together in various ways to reproduce a broad array of colors.

Our Quester
Readers are able to assemble relations between previous novels they have encountered to help
better understand a character and how their actions, thoughts and behaviors piece together who
they mimicking or who they are by utilizing memories, symbols and patterns in literature.
Specifically, patterns help simplify complex readings by gaining the ability to tie together
certain possibilities and figure out how each detail leads to an outcome a reader has seen before.
This familiarity allows for a more intricate thought process so we are able to pace ourselves with
the novel. I.Quests consist of a quester, a place to go, a stated reason to go there, challenges and
trials en route, and a real reason to go there. A.Our quester: the young god... Show more content on

Mr. Sam Walton s Success
Mr. Sam Walton was born in Kingfisher, Oklahoma in 1918. Walton went to the military in 1942
at the age of 24 and he ended is service in the military in 1945. At this time Walton moved to
Newport, Arkansas. In 1950, the Walton s moved to Bentonville, Arkansas which is where Walton
opened his first retail store Walton s 5 10 (Our History, 2015). The dime store made Walton some
money and he wanted to bring better opportunity and value to his customers so he opened Walmart
in 1962 in Rogers, Arkansas. Walton s competitors thought he was crazy for trying to build a
business that would give customers lower prices and offer great service. They thought his idea
would never work (Our History, 2015). In 1969 with 24 stores booming and over $12.7 million in
sales, the company incorporated as Walmart Stores, Inc. In 1970, Walmart went public and became
publicly traded (listing and selling the company shares on a stock exchange (Moffett, Stonehill,
Eiteman, 2015)), selling its first stock at $16.50 per share. Walton wanted to expand his service to
many other towns and states and he used the money the store profited to finance and expand
Walmart. In 1971 Walmart opened its first distribution center and home office in Bentonville, AK

The Importance Of Business Etiquette
Business Etiquette has always been an important part of life, whether it be business or social.
Within the last decade it has grown and become more important than ever. Mainly because the
business world is becoming more global and having good business relationships is a must for
success. Business etiquetteis vitally important for creating a harmonious work environment and for
representing your company in the best manner possible. (Fox, 2008). Professional etiquette is
significant in building up leadership, enhancing careers, and expanding business relationships. The
impression created when everyone displays good manners in any interaction, whether it be dining,
interview, and workplace etiquette is important for a variety of reasons. Without proper business
etiquette, one limits one s potential, risks one s image, and jeopardizes relationships that are
fundamental to business success. It helps people to understand what is appropriate in any situation.
Dining etiquette is the setting in which majority business deals are discussed and finalized. It is
very different than casual dining. Whenever business is conducted over dinner it is best to arrive
10 minutes early, have proper posture and to keep elbows off the table. Table mannersplay an
important part in making a favorable impression as well as nonverbal communication with your
host or interviewer; good eye contact and firm handshake. There are 2 different styles of dining;

Minstrel Shows and Theater
The 19th century was a time period full of disagreements and wishful thinking. During this time,
African Americans were trying to become free from slavery. This led to a Civil War. The 1800 s
were a hard time for African Americans, after the Civil War many expressed their thoughts and
feelings through plays like Minstrel Shows and other forms of theatre. During this time period,
America was in the middle of its Industrial Revolution. It was the beginning of the growth of the
infrastructure for factories and distribution of goods (Gunning 1). I believe that the business men
in the 1800 s really set up the base of how America runs today. Also invented in the 1800 s, were
many important things for the theatre. The film projector was made in 1820 by John Ayton Paris
(Gunning 2). In technology, optical illusions were in high demand (Gunning 11). These
physiological toys were designed to mess with people s minds and manipulate their perception
(Gunning 9). The technological advances of the 19th centuryplayed a big role in theatre. Since
America was having an Industrial Revolution, many people from the country moved to the
expanding cities in the east ( Nineteenth Century Theatre ). This migration made the growth of
theatres possible. Theatre seats, balconies, and the basic structural support were made of wood (
Nineteenth Century Theatre ). During the 19th century, theatre lights were upgraded three times,
the theatre went from candle lighting, to gas lighting,

Value Of Education In America
Education in America is highly valued, but are kids being educated in today s age in the right
way? There are arguments about how different schools have certain methods of teaching that no
school is the same. Kids that go from K 12 are always drilled into believing that they have two
options to either work hard and go to college for a degree, or to fail and not get anywhere and
end up working low paying jobs. Traditional views of schooling are affecting kids and there must
be a more positive solution to fix that. The educational system must address the issues on how
kids that go from k 12 are being graded, and how schools are teaching students to conform to a
certain norm and not to let their creativity bloom. Grading has always been a part

Truman Show Satire
The impact of media over society has substantially increased throughout the past decades and
reached a point where humans delude themselves and believe the reality which they are
presented. In the Truman Show, directed by Peter Weir, Jim Carrey plays Truman Burbank who
is adopted by Hollywood at a young age and unknowingly lives his life in a TV show. Weir
purposely omits invective language and insults towards media in order to allow the people to see
their own vices and stupidity. Weir allows viewers to laugh at the mesmerized public, making this
satire horation. Through his use of irony, verisimilitude, and caricature, Weir attacks the influence
of media over society and the public s unconditional surrender to it. Irony pervades the entire...

As Truman waits for his plane ticket out of Seahaven, there is a sign in the background which
states: It could happen to you . Although it explicitly provides an image of an airplane, the message
implies that any individual can be the source of entertainment for another(reality TV). The idea of
privacy is just that: an idea. Then, Christoph reveals the major argument of the story as he is
interviewed: We [humans] accept the reality of the world which we are presented (Christoph).
Christoph, or the scriptwriter, attacks human perception of events. Humans do not question the
verity of what is presented, and accept the reality they are given. Once again, Weir attacks the
unconditional influence media has over the people and comments on the illusion of privacy. Lastly,
Weir produces a caricature through the characterization of Truman. From the start, it can be seen
that almost everything that occurs in Truman s is routine starting with his Goodmorning!
(Truman). Although Truman is living his normal life, all his actions go through a cycle which
demonstrate not only the mundane nature of his life, but that of media as well. Knowing that the
show has been on air for 10,913 days, it is quite clear that the public is infatuated with Truman s
life. Since the people are so captivated by this routine show, Weir once again attacks the influence

Jp Morgan Private Bank Case
Risk Management Analysis of J.P. Morgan Private Bank
FIN6383 Final Case Study

Introduction
J.P. Morgan Private Bank was one of the most successful banking services globally. It offered high
end financial products and services with professional risk management team. In financial crisis, the
Private Bank successfully survived with relatively great performance. This paper would exposit the
key to their success of risk management by answering six questions.
1. How successful Morgan s Private Bank was in managing its risks during 2008 2009? Why?
During the volatile and instable period, the risk was obviously brought to a new level. Morgan s
Private Bank kept their eyes open all the time. I concluded two main aspects.

Then in late 2008, their discussion was to reduce the risk to the lowest level. 30% of the portfolios
were cash and only 25% was invested in equities. Under Embedded risk management, investment
team and risk team could update their views quickly and made efficient decisions.
Secondly, the balance between using Model and exercising judgment was conductive to risk
management. Before crisis, Medigan and Zhikharev did not believe VAR was good enough to
measure risks and only worked for normal distributed assets. They came up with a new tool
called Global Access Risk Factor Model. The new risk tool enhanced the judgment and helped
make some wise decisions in managing risk. The model helped to keep everyone honest. In the
summer 2008, the Model performed as expected. It made sure the portfolios were adjusted
accordingly with their views of macro environment. In March 2009, the Model suggested to add
more risk in order to get higher return. However, the Global Access team still believed the market
was not going to recover yet. They did not count on the Model and decided to take cautious steps.
On one side, they had downside protected trades by limit premium and quickly took gain and cut
loos. On the other side, they carefully chose trades with strong fundamental value. For the year
2009, they portfolios behaved significantly well.

Getting the helicopters staged at Desert One proved more difficult than initially imagined. Even
before the initial wave of the helicopters reached Desert One, the mission experienced a loss due
to pilot unfamiliarity with the warning signals of the Navy helicopter. This incident reduced the
available helicopters for the mission, from eight to seven. The weather dealt the mission its
second blow. As the helicopters continued toward Desert One, they encountered severe
sandstorms. The sandstorms proved difficult for the pilots. One pilot became disoriented and
turned back, once again reducing the number of available helicopters, which now stood at six.
Once the remaining six helicopters arrived at Desert One, the operation was ready to proceed.
As aircraft and Delta Force operators were positioned in the final stages for execution, one of the
final six helicopters experienced a hydraulic problem that caused the safety of the craft to be
called into question. Ultimately, this malfunction issued the final blow to the troubled mission.
After the order to abort was confirmed and evacuation initiated, as if to add insult to injury, the
already failed mission received one final fatal blow. While repositioning for departure, one of the
five remaining helicopters passed too closely to a parked C 130 cargo plane. The rotors of the
helicopter clipped the C 130 and sparked an explosion that ultimately killed eight military members.

The Biological Impact Of Grief And The Personality
Introduction Loss of a significant other, especially a spouse, is considered one of life s most
stressful events. While it may be difficult, bereavement is an event that all people experience at
some point in their lives. The time frame in which the loss occurs and how the individual reacts
to it has been the subject of many research studies. Researchers have investigated if people grieve
differently because of biological reasons or do their personality traits dictate how the loss is
mourned. I will explore the biological impact of griefand the personality aspects in grieving. Grief
is the act following the loss of a loved one. While grief and bereavement are normal occurrences,
the grief process is a social construct of how someone should behave. The acceptable ways that
people grieve change because of this construct. For a time it was not acceptable to grieve; today,
however, it is seen as a necessary way to move on from death (Scheid, 2011).The grief process
has been described as a multistage event, with each stage lasting for a suggested amount of time to
be considered normal and reach resolution. The beginning stage of grief is the immediate shock,
disbelief, and denial lasting from hours to weeks (Wambach, 1985). The middle stage is the acute
mourning phase that can include somatic and emotional turmoil. This stage includes
acknowledging the event and processing it on various levels, both mentally and physically. The
final stage is a period of

Literary Criticism Of Deuteronomy
The book of Deuteronomy is regarded as the fixed book for Old Testament study. Deuteronomy
was the book of the law which was found in the temple in the time of King Josiah. Its theology and

  • 2. Summary Of On Going Home By Joan Didion For the first time in 130 years, more young adults are living with parents until their mid thirties. Part of this could be an emotional attachment keeping them from leaving home because after they leave, everything will change. However, many are losing their real sense of home and are just using it as a place where they can avoid paying bills and many other responsibilities. Many young adults now do not understand the extensive sacrifice it is to leave their one and only home. In On Going Home, Joan Didion expounds on her struggle to connect with her current house, in a nostalgic and resigned tone, and vivid imagery, symbolism, and comparison Didion expresses the regret she feels every time she remembers she left her home . The essay it s based on the time Didion visited her parents home to celebrate her daughter s 1 year old birthday. Throughout the visit Didion couldn t help but feel resentment to leave her home . Didion stated that she came to dread my husband s evening call because she didn t want to go back to Los Angeles or even be reminded of it (2). Didion wishes she could stay in her home where she is completely happy. We find her desperately looking around the house for her past around every corner, inside every cupboard she aimlessly goes from room to room looking for something she once lost and will never get back (2). Didion feels the need to reconnect with her familyand, although not stated, Didion longs to go back in time and prevent ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Truth Behind The Columbine Shooting America s star detective Michael Moore has done it again! In this edition, he uncovers the truth behind the Columbine shooting, and exposes the real menaces of America s society. Or this is what we are led to believe... The Columbine Shooting has solidified itself as a tragic event in America s past, and was a real wake up call to the nation s age old gun problem. Michael Moore looks into this issue and decides it provides a great premise for his next documentary, his next crusade to flush out the evils of this world. The problem is, Bowling for Columbine is far from the truth; it is rather a distorted representation of reality, carefully sequenced to push Michael Moore s agenda. If we look past the film techniques, conspiracy theories, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... To offer an explanation as to how America got to this barbaric stage , an animated short, courtesy of Matt Stone is played, which takes a satirical approach to the story of America s gun laws. The general idea put across from this segment is that America s obsession with guns has transpired from a fear of the black man; where it even went as far to suggest that the KKK negotiated with the NRA to restrict black people s possession of a firearm. Moore then proposes that this fear has appeared in many different forms, and that of which has been orchestrated by the government and large corporations to boost consumerism. A hypothesis like this does seem plausible, however there is no tangible evidence to reinforce this claim, just a lot of emotional appeal. The majority of the documentary is spent proving this theory that Moore has ingeniously managed to synthesise. Whether it is fear of the black man during slavery, fear of terrorists after 9/11 or fear of teenagers after the Columbine Shooting; there is always a reason for America to worry. Moore shows us that when people are scared, they look for ways to protect themselves, causing them to spend money; shown by the increase in homeland security after 9/11, which also was apparently caused by the CIA supplying Osama Bin Laden with weaponry and tactical training that was later used against the USA. He then investigates the media s role in inflating these issues, stirring the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Sensitivity Analysis This is a technique that shows how different variables affect the value of a particular variable. For example, it shows the affect on profit following a change in sales price and/or volume. Pros: Sensitivity analysis shows the sensitivity of economic payoffs to uncertain values such as discount rates. Management can see the profitability of a project if input values change [ (Marshall, 1995) ]. It is easy to use and understand. Therefore it is most useful when more advanced and time consuming techniques are not possible. Management can see which factors are the most influential in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Therefore the decisions for management should be easier to make. Knowing the exact cost structure would allow the firm to use CVP analysis reliably. Cons: Perfect information means all uncertainty is removed. This is rarely achievable and therefore this concept is more theoretical than practical. Information is also costly to attain. 6. Simulation Simulation is a technique for studying a system that involves setting up a model of the real system and then performing experiments on the model rather than on the system. It is used in problems like inventory control and production planning. Pros: The simulation model can be used to test different alternatives that would be too expensive or impractical to perform on the real system. Simulation is useful where other analytical techniques are not applicable. Simulation is cheaper and less risky than altering the real system [ (Lucey, 2002) ]. Cons: The models are complex and therefore they can take up significant amounts of managerial and technical time. Computer expertise is also required and this may not be available [ (Lucey, 2002) ]. Simulations do not always result in the optimal outcome. The manager makes the decision based on

Truck 1 is connected to Channel A and Truck 2 is connected to Truck2. Before taking the readings, the TARE button located on top of the sensors was pressed in order to zero the readings. To confirm the proper working of the sensors the trucks are pushed but not made to collide and a straight line graph is observed. The sample rate set for the experiment is 200 Hz, which is not as slow as 10 Hz or not very fast as 1000 Hz. This enables us to acquire accurate results during the course of the experiment. • 8. The Case Of Epperson V. Arkansas In the wake of the Scopes trial in Tennessee, the State of Arkansas passed an anti evolution statute in 1928, that made it illegal to teach the theory or doctrine that mankind ascended or descended from a lower order of animals, or to adopt or use in any such institution a textbook that teaches the doctrine or theory that mankind ascended or descended from a lower order of animal. Forty years later, the case of Epperson v. Arkansas (1968) was argued before the Supreme Court. The case originated in 1965, when Susan Epperson was hired to teach 10th grade biology at Little Rock Central High School. The local school board had recently adopted, as a part of an approved curriculum, a new biology textbook that included a section on evolution. Immediately, Epperson recognised her dilemma; that to teach the required curriculum would put her at risk for dismissal under the anti evolution statute. A suit was filed to challenge the constitutionality of the statute, and the State Chancery Court of Pulaski County ruled that the statute was unconstitutional. This ruling was overturned by the Arkansas Supreme Court in 1967. Upon appeal, the U.S. Supreme Court held that: Arkansas law cannot be defended as an act of religious neutrality. Arkansas did not seek to excise from the curricula of its schools and universities all discussion of the origin of man. The law s effort was confined to an attempt to blot out a particular theory because of its supposed conflict with the Biblical ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Alliteration In The Chimney Sweeper The Chimney Sweeper is a poem written by William Blake (1757 1827). His main aim is to expose the social defects in his age and the vices which afflict his society and to confront his readers with the dreadful suffering of the working paupers. According to Blake, the chimney sweeping life is not a life at all; the labourer children have lost their childhood, their freedom, and their innocence. He criticizes the victimisation of children and the injustice of this oppressive labour. He shows how Tom; the chimneysweeper and other children suffer from long hard labour in addition to physical and psychological abuse. This might remind us that these kids face an early death and also shows us that in many ways, they re dead already; they have lost their childhood, their freedom, and their innocence. They re forced to live a black life, covered in soot and facing a premature death. He reveals the dangers of the job of chimney sweeping and the exploitation of children. These children are victims as they are abused physically and psychologically. • 10. Genetic Mutation And Its Effects Genetic Mutation in C. elegans and its Affect INTRODUCTION Caenorhabditis elegans (C. elegans) are transparent roundworm, that range about 1mm in length and lack a respiratory and circulatory system. C. elegans is a model organism in genetics, its short life cycle, ease of cultivation, small size, and high cell number and development makes it an easy animal to use in experiments (International Journal of Molecular Science). In this experiment, two strains of worms will be used. Virgin hermaphrodite and him 8 males, which will be the wildtype. Him 8 strain is being use in this experiment because this gene has an increased rate of X chromosomes, giving a forty percent change of producing male and sixty percent chance of hermaphrodite. This will help produce wildtype and mutant genes in the genetic offspring of the two. Hermaphrodites can be distinguishing from the male counterpart because they have wispy threadlike structure for their tail, whereas male have a blunt end tail. (C. elegans as a genetic organism) The tails are a great way in telling the difference between these two mutant strain. When crossing these two strain together, the hypothesis that was made would be that we would find more male mutation of an offspring because the male strain is a more recessive gene trait. Dumpy A with a phenotype of dyp 10, this affects body shape and movement, causing the worm to be half of the normal length but the same width, which causes a stumpy effect. METHODS AND MATERIALS ... • 12. Essay about Beowulf as a Messianic Narrative Beowulf as a messianic narrative has been a subject of great controversy. Given the time period, Christianity was not completely established, and it was entwined with cultural paganism, as seen woven throughout the text. The definition of a messianic narrative (containing the ultimate messianic figure) is found in Isaiah53, a prophecy spoken by God through the Hebrew prophet Isaiah. This is the standard to which Beowulfmust be compared to determination the nature of the poem. Many scholars such as Harold Bloom (quoting E. Talbot Donaldson), Roberta Frank, Rich Lawson, Seamus Heaney, and J. R. R. Tolkien (quoting R. W. Chambers) have critically viewed Beowulf to determine the nature of the epic, resulting in a diverse range of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Bloom and Donaldson argue that whilst Christian elements are present, heroic paganism is more prevalent in Beowulf. This is supported by the death of Beowulf, reading, of all the world kings, [he was] keenest for fame, summarising Beowulf, and suggesting his life only amounted to self glorification. In assessing the Christianity of Beowulf, Frank suggests that, like King Alfred did of Remiguis s commentaries, the author of Beowulf used pagan analogies for Christian concepts. Lawson explores this in the role fate has throughout the poem. The Geat prince placed all his trust in...his Maker s favour, Then Beowulf speaks, The Father...shall apportion the honours...to whichever side shall seem to Him fit, . The poet wrote, Fate had not assigned him the glory of battle, . The composer s personification of Fate portrays the place it has taken God s place. Lawson writes of this, The pagan concept of fate...is tied to God, suggesting that Beowulf is resigned to fate, but the author is using this to illustrate the nature of God. Frank also states, What matters is how the rulers...served God s purpose, , also calling Beowulf a, Pagan prince of peace, . While Beowulf demonstrates a pagan trust in fate, Lawson and Frank believe it was the author using paganism to convey the messianic narrative, and that Beowulf was instrumental in doing so. In analysing Beowulf, Lawson concluded it was a messianic narrative including a messianic figure, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 15. Literary Influences Of Shakespeare Context Due to Shakespeare having a big influence on literature, even today, many literary works are related to Shakespeare. Authors incorporate Shakespeare s writing in some way and change things a bit to make their own story. Reflection In literature class, we could apply this concept because many literary works are influenced by Shakespeare and other writings, which we can use to make connections and it can be considered as a text to text situation. A film called West Side Story is just like Romeo and Juliet because in both of the stories there are two rival groups and one person form one group falls in love with a person from their rival group. These two stories have common elements such as the rival gangs, and the type of love. Context The Bible is well recognized book, which has many allusions in it. The writers use these references to make it more meaningful. Reflection In literature class, we could apply this concept because allusions can create a lot of imagery, which adds more meaning to it. Religious or biblical references can also be used for irony. Allusions add hidden and deep meaning, due to the fact it s an indirect reference. For example, in the book Macbeth, Shakespeare uses the Golgotha as an allusion. Context Many writers integrate other literary works into their writing. It helps readers understand what s going on more by connecting some of the events and themes to the fairytales. Reflection In literature class, we could apply ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 18. Celiac Disease And Celiacs Disease Celiacs disease (gluten sensitive enteropathy) is a condition where in some people, gluten cannot be digested and causes an immune response. Gluten is a protein found in wheat, barley, oats, and rye. In some people who take in and ingest gluten, an enzyme named transglutaminase transforms the gluten into a chemical that triggers an immune reaction, causing irritation and inflammation of the lining of the small intestine (Wedro, 2016). The microvilli that make up the inside surface of the intestine are destroyed, causing nutirents to pass without being, like our body needs from our diet. This can cause damage to other organs in the body due to malabsorption. (Wedro, 2016) Organs that depends the most on nutrients to function properly consist of the liver, bones and the brain. This is crucial especially in children because malnutrition can lead to abnormal growth and development. (Wedro, 2016) Celiacs disease can also be known by Coeliac Disease. Roughly 8,000 years after its first appearence, celiacs disease was identified and named. A Greek physician named Aretaeus of Cappadocia who lived in the first century AD, wrote about The Coeliac Affection. Also, he called it koiliakos after the Greek word koelia meaning abdomen. • 23. Matthew Shepard Analysis Society s view on sexuality has played a pivotal role in the equality of the gay community. Their existence is often ignored as there is a stigma against their lifestyle and those who choose to reveal their identity are either attacked or shunned away. The fatality of Matthew Shepard during the late 90s proved to show that some parts of society had not yet accepted homosexuality. Whether or not acceptance is relevant today, the play works to address the issues of sexuality through Matthew and have the audience understand the reality of the lives tormented by hate. Shepard s character reveals to the audience the issues of sexuality by serving as a martyr for the gay community. Sadly his death would then only bring the attention needed to recognize anti gay hate crimes and awaken the movement needed to replace hate with understanding and acceptance. As an audience, we regrettably understand that when a tragic event occurs, only then do we decide to act. Most people are unaware that they have the power to prevent hate crimes by educating their communities about sexuality and taking away the dogmatic view that only heterosexuality is normal. One could think of Matthew as a Christ figure, whom he is sacrificed for the sake of change considering that his death received national attention to anti gay sentiment. Throughout history there have been worse crimes but never received as much attention as Laramie. To have one person represent the struggles of the gay community is not acceptable and the audience needs to understand that there will be more crimes. The residents Laramie declare they have a live and let live mentality as opposed to the rest of Wyoming. Whether this mentality is relevant for the rest of the United States, it reaches out to the audience to question whether they feel the same as those in Laramie. As a society, we choose to avoid people who don t fit our agenda and as long as they don t come in contact with us, we are ok with them. This type of mentality is more of a silent treatment. The indifference can be shown by characters such as Sherry Johnson, wife of a police officer. For the first time, more people lived in cities than in rural areas (Danzer 640). Trends including superficial fads, professional sports, new types of music, and the idea of celebrities represented the establishment of pop culture during the Roaring 20s (Fagnilli 46). Challenging the values and practices of the traditional American, many individuals, usually young people, introduced casual dating, more revealing clothing, birth control, and new styles of dancing (Fagnilli 45 46). Although the 1920s were considered the good times, there was a darker side to this era, including a rise in unemployment, organized crime, and an irrational fear of communism. This was a design that incorporated a refrigerator, freezer and microwave into a single compact unit. He created a new electronic circuit in which the refrigerator shut down while the microwave operated and vice versa. Analysing the Microfridge: This 3 in 1 device consumed only 10 amps as opposed to the usual 20 amps while using a refrigerator and microwave simultaneously. Recommendation and Plan of Action: To increase the customer perceived value of the product, the idea of partnering with Sanyo and using their brand name to promote the Microfridge could be explored. This would also help to tap in the market already available to Sanyo. As Sanyo is an older and more recognized brand, it would create trust and generate a greater brand following and value. Considering the potential competition the Microfridge may face, a comprehensive promotion strategy needs to be developed keeping the individual targets in mind. While the eagerness of the students to adopt the Microfridge can be leveraged to convince the administration to provide Microfridge as an amenity, various other promotion strategies can be considered. Bennett should send out sales persons to colleges and arrange meetings with the administration to create awareness of the Microfridge and its demand amongst the students. As the primary concern of the administration was fire safety in student dormitories, the fact that 90% of the students violate these norms by using hot plates needs to be highlighted. In addition, other countries do not allow the freedom of speech or public opinion. It is because of these and other hidden stigmas that vary from country to country researchers believe the numbers reported may actually be higher. In the United States this is not as great of an issue since mental disorders have been publicized greatly in recent years. This means there is a strong possibility America might not rank as high in mental disorders when compared to other countries. They both are similar because they need structure, their moody and emotions, they strive for independence, and they are always taking risks. There are also some differences between the two because of the way you have to communicate with them, discipline, and how much attention is needed to each one. When it comes to the two, all of these differences contribute to ho they grow up. Each child is different in their own way, and so are the technics of how you interact with them. Toddlers and teenagers can be so moody and emotional. The reason for this is because toddlers are still growing, and so is their brain. They can t express how they feel therefore they react in the only way they know how and that is through emotion. They rely on emotion to communicate. If they are tired, hungry, sick, and or possibly need to be changed they cry, or become extremely cranky. Teenagers are moody and emotional because they are going through so much change. Their hormones are going crazy and they are also in school with a lot of other kids and they tend to act like the people they are around. They are moody sometimes for no reason. In those winter Sundays, Robert Hayden stated a lot with very few words. This was possible due to brilliant use of imagery, metaphor and sound. His striking words invoke thoughts in the mindof the reader of this dedicated father, up alone exposed to the harsh elements who works hard each day to make his familycomfortable, however they don t value his acts of good will, nor did they give him any credit. His striking words make me invoke thoughts in my mind of this persevering dad up alone wide open to the harsh elements. When he noted his dads, hands were cracked, and that they ached it was a great use of imagery. Hayden depicted sounds and in addition pictures in the same elucidating way when he wrote I awoke and heard the cold splintering, breaking. While it may be difficult, bereavement is an event that all people experience at some point in their lives. The time frame in which the loss occurs and how the individual reacts to it has been the subject of many research studies. Researchers have investigated if people grieve differently because of biological reasons or do their personality traits dictate how the loss is mourned.
