Essay on Cycles of Violence in The Battler
Cycles of Violence in The Battler
Ernest Hemingway s The Battler provides a continued account of Nick Adams dangerous and
violent life. Previous stories compiled in The Short Stories edition of Hemingway s work
documents some of the tribulations of Nick Adams, one of Hemingway s protagonists. Apparently,
Nick has been plagued by moments of sheer humility, terror, and immutable violence. In the
Hemingway short story Indian Camp, Nick is a young boy who witnesses a dreadfully difficult
birth by a Native American woman, enduring all the while the hubris of his surgeon father, who is
contestibly insensitive to Nick s innocence. Once the birth has ended, the husband of the woman is
found with a freshly slit throat, again ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

His state of affairs does not improve, however. Nick happens upon a camp of tow men, one of
whom is an ex prizefighter, Ad Francis. Upon arrival, Nick calls out, Hello, and is greeted by Ad
with Where d you get that shiner? (p. 130) Not a typical response, but Nick is about to learn he
is not in a set of typical circumstances. Ad Francis face is described queerly formed and
mutilated...putty in color, with a sunken nose, slitted eyes and with only one ear. (p. 131)
Clearly, the implication is that Ad Francis has seen some beatings in his day. This is confirmed
by the man himself: They all bust their hands on me...they couldn t hurt me. (p. 132) The
extreme physical toll taken by Ad has affected him mentally. Listen, he tells Nick, I m not quite
right. (p. 132) Like Nick, Ad is a man who has encountered violence and humiliation all of his
life. Countless blows have found their mark on his now deformed face. In a way, Ad is a physical
representation of Nick s fortitude and perserverance, a fellow sufferer whose pain has surfaced in a
more tangible way, who takes immediate notice of things like black eyes.
Soon after Nick s introduction to Ad, another man approaches the fire. Nick is introduced to
Bugs as Ad s pal...he s crazy too. (p. 133) Physically, Bugs is a stark contrast to Ad s figure: tall,
black, low voiced and calm. Bugs begins to cook a dinner of ham and eggs over the campfire that

The Abolishment Of The Electoral College
The controversial presidential election of 2000, Al Gore won a majority of the popular vote, but
he did not win the electoral college votes. George W. Bush won the presidency that year and
Americans began to question the abolishment of the Electoral College (Wilcox 1). The identical
problem reappeared during the 2016 presidential election, when Donald Trump lost the popular
vote to Hillary Clinton by over 2.8 million votes, but he earned 74 votes more votes than Hillary
Clinton in the Electoral College, which resulted in Donald Trump becoming the 45th president of
The United Statesof America. Popular votes in the presidential election are more adequate and civil
for The United Statesof America because the people are casting a vote directly for the possible
future president rather than casting a vote to the electors of each state.
The United States of America does not elect its president by a popular vote, but instead uses a
process to select its leader, but it may not be the politicians a majority of voters were in favor of
(Noble 1). The establishment of the Electoral College was created in 1804 in Article II of the US
Constitution. The Electoral College was fashioned as a settlement for the presidential election
growth because politicians assumed that a popular election was too careless and would give too
much power to highly populated places in our country (Williams 1). How the Electoral College is
set up is after the popular votes from the state are

Essay On Media Image Of Women
Everywhere you turn society is being presented with images of perfection, beauty, or sexuality.
Some of these images represent unrealistic or unreachable expectations and can be truly harmful. It
is common to see women exploited in reality TV shows and music videos. Young women are also
influenced by the images that they see in commercials, billboards, internetsites, and movies. These
images serve to harm a womans self confidence and also are affecting their overall health. Today s
mass mediamessages are having a negative effect on how women perceive themselves. I would
like to propose a project which involves analyzing several women, of many different age groups,

The third and last theory is called Bandura s social cognitive theory. This theory assumes that
people model and learn from the behaviors of attractive individuals. Women want to emulate the
body images of the thin attractive models through dieting. Eventually, negative effects result from
this such as anorexia and bulimia. After the theories were described, the article states that thirty four
studies were conducted. Thirteen out of the thirty four studies were surveys and twenty one of the
studies were experiments. The media was measured and recorded for all studies with the categories
ranging from magazines and photos, to movies and television shows. Ten studies were measured by
exposure from fitness and fashion magazines. Seventeen studies were examined using a photo
measure. Typically, the photo measure consisted of advertisements with thin woman. Three studies
used a general mass media measure, which measured general media use. One study included a
movie measure and another included a computer measure. The analysis implies that there is a
relationship between body image and media, but the relationship is minute. The article says that
one reason why some woman may not compare themselves to the thin woman in the images is
because they are constantly exposed. Finally, the article concludes by stating that a manipulation of
exposure length, outcome measures, and

Process Measurement and Improvement
Introduction
The case is based on an insurance service company which traced back to 1994. The company was
facing problems in controlling and improving service quality and operation performance. This essay

The average of fraction defective is merely a number which cannot tell us what to do with it even
when we get it. Thus SPC is more accurate and systematic to analyze the process of customer
service operation.
2. Primary challenges
There are basically two challenges that implementing the SPC to a service company:
1) Difficulties of deciding and selecting what to measure and
2) Too much uncertainty because of the human behavior
3. Sample: how SPC works
Here is an example of employing SPC (P Chart) for DAV s PMV project.
The first 12 weeks of the data displayed in Appendix I represent the diagnostic period for the Policy
Extension Group.
From the calculation (See Appendix I), we get the 3 sigma control limits for the process, i.e.
UCL=0.091, LCL=0.014. These control limits indicate that if the error proportion is within the
range of [0.014, 0.091], the process is under control; if not, the process is out of control.
Here is the P Chart for the data from Week 13 to Week 30.
[pic]
It is then clear that the process is out of control in Week 23 and Week 24.
In addition to process control, SPC can also help lower rank employees to better understand the
different standards of the services and draw their attention to self control of fraction

Compare And Contrast Sleepy Hollow And The Legend Of...
In 1820 Washington Irving wrote the classic short story, The Legend of Sleepy Hollow . In his
version no one knew what happened to Ichabod Crane, however there was some theories. The
townsfolk of a small backwoods town, Sleepy Hollow, just knew the Headless Horseman had come
for him. Thus, making nature win. In 1999 Tim Burton directed a movie that was based on
Washington Irvings short story. In his version everyone knew what happened to Ichabod Crane. He
left the little town with Katrina Van Tassel and Young Masbath after finding out how to stop the
Headless Houseman. Which, is making science win. The film version and the short story version
both had the same theme, science will kill nature or nature will kill science. However, was this...

Even though Ichabod Crane saw the Headless Horsemen with his own eyes, he still thought
science and logic was superior. When he saw the Headless Horsemen for the first time he was in
a state of panic, did not know what to believe in anymore. Eventually, he got a grip on himself and
says there must be an explanation for everything, and therefore believes there is a perfectly logical
explanation for what is happening in the town of Sleepy hollow. However, once Ichabod Crane,
Young Masbath, and Katrina Van Tassel went into the Western Woods and found the Headless
Horseman burial site and they saw him spring forth from the dead blood tree. This made Ichabod
Crane question everything aging since the tree represents the bringing together of two worlds.
(50:00) He came back to logic and science when he figured out that someone was controlling the
Headless Horsemen to kill all these people. (59:01) He always managed to find his way back to

Ei ya mi Ya, Ei ya mi ya. She shook her head from side to side as she tried to shake off the orgasm
raking her body.
Exhausted, Mal collapsed to one side. Tom took his place, the pungent aroma of hot sex assaulting
his senses. Holding onto his cock he popped the tip in and out teasing her, driving her crazy for it.
Just as she thought she couldn t take any more he thrust deep within making her gasp with each
stroke, her whole existence focused on the cock invading her.
Desperately needing something to hold on to she grasped Mal s shaft and pumped him in time with
Tom s thrusts. Pulling him closer she clamped her lips around him, her moans vibrating through to
his balls.
This time Tom wasn t holding back, he increased his pace, reaming her cunt with his T shaped tool,
his fingertips gouging her hips as he fucked her harder, faster, each thrust forcing Shaowei s mouth
further onto Mal s cock making her choke as they viciously fucked her from both ends.
The world became an erotic blur. Shaowei felt like she was on a carousel whirling faster and
faster. Lack of oxygen, muddled her thoughts, she couldn t absorb it, couldn t breathe, couldn t
think, her whole being spiralling out of control as two, four, six orgasms worthy of the Guinness
book of records, rattled her body. Mal was sure, her cries could be heard throughout the hotel.
Tom hissed, gasping for air, an unstoppable adrenalin rush, building inside him.
Oh, fuck, yesssssss. His body quivered as his hot seed

Trait Theory Of The Great Man Theory
Trait Theory
Bass (1990; Koh, 1990) posited the historical evolution of leadership as commencing with the trait
theory in the 1930s until to 1940s , in which the assumption was that leaders were born with special
qualities which made them effective leaders. As a result, distinction was employed on in
discovering universal traits which stood out between leaders and non leaders (Koh, 1990). Early
studies investigated traits such as Intelligence, dominance, age, sex, height, and weight, but at last
the trait theory was disputed when confirmation could not be established that specific traits were
connected with effective leaders (Koh, 1990; Yukl, 2002).
Trait Theory expresses the concept of inherent leadership qualities rather than something one
learns. A few studies show leaders are exceptional people who are born with qualities to lead
(Clawson, 2006; Stogdill, 1948). Great Man Theory stipulates that leadership is inherent and there
is no amount of training or coaching that can help an individual acquire leadership qualities; one
must have it in oneself (Stogdill, 1948). Effective leadership has a great quest for responsibility
and task completion. Often leaders do not get frustrated easily but are vigorous in pursuing
organizational goals, take risks, do not shy away from solving problems, and are driven to take
initiative in social situations (Clawson, 2006; Stogdill, 1948).
Furthermore, as argued by Kirkpatrick and Locke (1993) evidence shows that traits do matter in

Module five had a lot of familiar concepts that I ve become accustomed with during my brief
time in the Air Force. For many of these concepts, I was able to get a more in depth look into
how they are applied. One item I really took away from the module reading was the budget
process and how the different quarterly cycles work. Another process I learned a lot about was the
BudgetExecution Review and how to properly forecast funding shortfalls. These items are
currently not in my day to day operations, but will be in my near future. Currently, my position in
the squadron does not afford many opportunities to apply resources stewardship skills. Managing
people is the only facet of resource stewardship that I directly impact. Other areas

Children With Special Needs A Wonderful Part Of Our World...
Children with special needs are a wonderful part of our world today. A child with special needs
bring a whole new life to those who they are around. They light up our world when we are around
them and do not see when there is trouble with different issues. After watching the two movies,
Lorenzo s Oil and The Other Sister, my eyes were opened even more about living with children
who have special needs. Lorenzo s Oil is based on a true story of Michalla and Augosto Odone
and their son Lorenzo. When Lorenzo is just five years old he is diagnosed with a disease called
Adrenoleukodystrophy also called ALD. Once he is diagnosed the Odone s do everything they can
to find a cure for this terminal disease. After talking with doctors they find out that Lorenzo only
had about two years to love. With that being said both Michalla and Augosto do everything in their
power to lengthen his prognosis. ALD is a genetic disorder that is X linked. This disease causes the
body to not be able to break down the long chain of fatty acids, because of this then the myelin
sheath that is around the nerves in the brain and the spinal cord begins to deteriorate. There are
many different symptoms that one produces such as: hyperactivity, decreased school performance,
difficulty understanding verbal communication, hard time swallowing, muscle spasms and change
in muscle tone, loss of hearing, visual impairment or blindness, and seizures. These are just some of
the symptoms that ALD patients have. Despite

Established permanently through the Copyright Act of 1976 (p. 347), this doctrine allows for
exclusions to the exclusive right granted by Copyright Law. As mentioned earlier, exclusions to
copyright protection exist and are known as the Fair Use Doctrine. This doctrine was established
in section 107 of the 1976 copyright act as a response to some major cases heard previously.
Protected works that are used for the purpose of criticism, comment, news reporting, teaching,
scholarship, or research fall into the realm of fair use and do not require payment or
authorization from the creator. However, this only gives people a limited privilege, and not an
absolute right to use the work. Folsom v. Marsh (1841), introduced the factors that underline the
limited privileges of fair use. Although the appeals process found that fair use was not applicable
in the case because the defendants had used too much of the work and earned a profit from it. In
his opinion, Justice Joseph Story enumerated factors that could be used to determine if the use fell

opinion I lack to the fullest, in the 130th Sonnet, Sonnet 130, demonstrates the speaker s affection
through the development of a complicated attitude through his use of certain writing attributes.
Anyhow, sonnet130 expresses the speakers affection by portraying the real person that he loves

An In-Depth Analysis on the Prescription of Stimulant...
Stimulant medication could be the miracle drug, or the most harmful thing to hit the younger
generations. Medications such as Adderall and Ritalin are playing a prominent role in many
adolescents lives, or the lives of people close to them. There is an underground market for
medications like these, and the market is growing quickly. Whether just to make sure they pass
that next test, or if they really believe they need it, stimulants popularity is soaring, and not just
among adolescents but doctors as well. Stimulant medication / therapy is being prescribed at a

Rather, they believe the largely inconclusive genetic results to be rather a sign of the way the
patient was raised, and the culture they became a part of. Regardless, ADD and ADHD are being
diagnosed much more commonly than in previous generations, and with the growing popularity of
prescribing this medication, an unprecedented number of adolescents and adults are already legally
in possession. Without proper monitoring and education, illegal users may be impacted by their use
for the rest of their lives. Some of the more common side effects include loss of appetite,
restlessness, stomach aches, insomnia, headaches, and anorexia. Effects such as these, especially
without proper monitoring by a medical professional, can be very severe, if not fatal. While
practically all who take stimulants are at risk of this, the risk of complications goes up for someone
tremendously once they take over the recommended dosage. Overdosing on stimulants like Ritalin

along with schizophrenic symptoms, manic like states, psychoses, depressions (especially during

Craig Raine s self conscious poem, A Martian Sends A Postcard Home, is rich in pensive and

unshackle our ridged perspectives on the world around us.
The poem is tangled and booby trapped in unusual symbolism, creating riddles for the reader. The
first step in unravelling the mysteries surrounding all the descriptions is understand the intended

Personal Reflection Essay
As the first five weeks of Writing 39B have passed, I believe that I have made some improvements
in my writing as a result of the feedback from the professor, the multiple writing assignments, and
reading the Anteater s Guide to Writing and Rhetoric. Although I can still improve in all facets of
my writing, the progress I have made so far was very much needed. One of the stages of my
development took place in class. Although I was a bit reluctant and shy to participate at times in
class, I learned a lot. The way the professor analyzed the 9/11 conspiracy video and some of the
chapters in the The United States of Paranoia taught me how to see the author s purpose in
creating the text and how the author appealed to the audience by presenting the text in different
mediums. The mini group work done almost daily in class also helped me think more analytically
about each text, which helped me writing my final RA. One of the class works was analyzing the
opening paragraph of The Metamorphis by Franz Kafka. This task allowed me to see how the
author s word choice can change the complete tone of the text and how the audience reacts
differently to each type of tone. At the times in which I did participate, I felt that I contributed
valuable information as the professor would usually expand on my comment in a positive way. In
addition, participating also allowed me to feel confident about my ideas and thoughtprocess which
enabled me to feel confident writing my assignments. From the very first RIP assignment, the
feedback I ve received helped in aiding my final RA. Prior to this class, I didn t truly know how
to be specific. Whether this be with a claim or audience, I was describing things broadly. In my
RIP #1, where I had to identify a specific group with a shared interest. The group that I created
was students in high school or college who are obsessed with social media. With the feedback, I
learned that I could ve made it more specific by choosing just high school students not including
college student and only Snapchat, and no other social media platforms. Moving on, a drastic
change in my writing can be seen in the differences between CR #1 and CR #2. In CR #1, I

Diagnosing Change: Six Box Organizational Model The Six box Organizational Model is one of
the oldest models developed, by Marvin Weisbord. Weisbord examined two key elements of
organizational life; task and process. There are six variables; purpose, structure, relationship,
rewards, helping mechanism, and leadership (Palmer, 2008). To clearly understand each variable
there will be a brief overview of each variable. (See Figure 1) First, the purpose variable, this is to

These are things that Kmart and Sears had to address. With wanting to change some of the Kmart

Relationship: this is a huge part of the merger. The relationship of the two leadership s merger
together is very important because if the two companies did not agree they there would be
dysfunction within the company. With defining the leadership right off, differently helped the
relationship of the two companies coming together. It allowed for clear communication with the
employees on who would be in charge and an idea of the direction they were heading for the future.
Rewards: I didn t find much on a rewards or incentives for the merger only that it would rank them
third in retail companies. This may be an area in which the company lacked, and may have pushed
them to the verge of closing now.
Helpful mechanism: I feel that they had a strong direction on with this area for the six box model,
because they are were much defined on how things were going to be. They had transition for the
headquarters to be in Chicago but also leaving the Kmart headquarters in Troy, MI. It showed that
there would be a support system still in place for the Kmart employees and customers.
Leadership: I really like what Kmart and Sears did with their leadership. I think that they were
very fair on how they placed people. Lampert not becoming the chairmen of Sears Holdings was a

Consequences Of The Nanjing Massacre
The Nanjing Massacre to some extent was more atrocious than the bombing of Hiroshima. The
main reasons were: the ongoing physical violence, Japan s war aggression, and lastly, people
tend to forget to forget its history, in comparison to Hiroshima bombings. The Nanjing Massacre
was arguably more atrocious than the atomic bombing of Hiroshima in terms of ongoing
physical violence. The Japanese Imperial Army s invasion in China prolonged the Nanjing
Massacre. Moreover, arguably, it was more atrocious in their case because their own government
and army abandoned them. A survivor named Jiang Genfu had to watch his parents and siblings
get killed by Japanese soldiers, at the age of nine. The Nanjing Massacre was hardly the unifying
event that it has for the Chinese . No one could fathom the overall extent of the terror by looking at
confidential accounts and diaries from Chinese survivors. An estimate of 200,000 Chinese civilians
and war prisoners were massacred in Nanjing during the first six weeks of the Japanese invasion.
Numbers may not mean anything, however, the violence was ongoing. Historians also had to take
into account that not all numbers add up because published textbooks present varied information.
Beijing stated that 300,000 people were massacred. Both sides often questioned the figures. A
professor at Sophia University named Watanabe Shoichi, claimed that 200,000 or 300,000 could
not have been massacred in Nanjing, assuming the size of the Japanese

Essay On Strong Interest Inventory
Everyone has their own interests and values that they would like to pursue and continue to
follow throughout their life. Although many people share common characteristics in interests,
we are all our own different individuals which can be demonstrated in our personality and
choices. The Strong Interest Inventory, SII, depicts these difference by assigning individuals a
code based on the decisions made on the test. The code assigned to me was AIS, which means
that my top three themes were artistic, investigative and social, in that order. In all honesty, I
was not surprised by my results because they were almost identical to the code I received when I
took the Kuder assessment back in UNI 150. Back then I got a tie between my social and art, but
still had investigative so I had a code of S/AI. I think the code of AIS describes me well due to
my love of the arts really taking a big part of me personally, along with my strong level of
knowledge in math and science. Although I am not the most social individual, I do enjoy working
with people, even with my introvertness. Overall, this code encompasses me perfectly and for me

often are used interchangeably. In reality, the differences between the two are quite apparent.
A patio is an outdoor space sited directly on the ground and may be linked to the house or built in
a separate part of the yard. Patios often have concrete bases, and some homeowners utilize stone,
tile, pavers, brick or other materials to build the foundation. In most cases patios do not include a

Installation is also a big benefit for choosing a deck. The way a deck is built allows more
creativity in location. The actual structure is built above the ground. This means that tree roots, wet
ground, even big slopes can be easily overcome without adding significant expenses.
Traditionally, the lifespan of a wood structure is about seven eight years if it s not cared for. This
average is getting longer with more options coming into the market like composites and all
weather stains. Even pressure treated wood is seeing new technology in which use smaller
molecules in the stain to get the rich brown colour deeper into the wood; preserving it longer.
Remodeling Magazine (2014) released a study that the return on investment for a wood deck is 87
percent, exceeding all indoor renovations.
In short, from the cost perspective patios are usually cheaper than decks. The cost of the project
will depend upon a variety of factors and these

Symbolism In Christina Rossetti s Goblin Market
Goblin Market tells the story of two devoted young sisters, Laura and Lizzie. Goblin men curse
one sister after offering her special fruit, and the other sister must face the goblin men to save her
sister from certain death (Rossetti 1 567). Poet Christina Rossetti employs a significant amount of
symbolism in her work, Goblin Market. Examples of symbols used in the poem include fruit, Lizzie,
goblinmen, and money.
First, fruit is a symbol in Goblin Market. At the beginning of the poem, the goblin men advertise the
fruits they are selling:
Come buy our orchard fruits,
Come buy, come buy:
Apples and quinces,
Lemons and oranges,
Plump unpecked cherries,
Melons and raspberries... (Rossetti lines 3 8)
Laura is seduced into purchasing these fruits from the goblin men. She sucked and sucked and
sucked the more/ Fruits which that unknown orchard bore;/ She sucked until her lips were sore
(Rossetti 134 136). I believe that the fruit is a symbol for sin. Laura knows that she should not
be indulging in the forbidden fruit, but her desire for the fruit prevails over her caution of the
goblin men (Rossetti 69 106). Lizzie warns her from listening to the goblin men (Rossetti lines 48
49). Just as Eve in the Bible eats the forbidden fruit, Laura eats the fruit as well. Eve becomes
cursed because she eats the forbidden fruit, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
You have much gold upon your head, / They answered all together:/ Buy from us with a golden
curl (Rossetti 123 125). I believe that the money is a symbol for a loss of innocence. Once she
pays for the fruit and consumes it, she becomes sick (Rossetti 293 298). When Laura goes to save
her sister, she offers the goblin men a coin; however, they do not take it because she does not want
to buy the fruit willingly (Rossetti

Cultural Differences:
Cultural differences are present wherever you travel to, you will come across cultural
differences, and these can vary quite a bit, such as the language people use e.g. English people
say Chips compared to Americans who say Fries . A businessman may find himself in the middle
of cultural differences quite often and thus, will have to devise methods as to how to make sure
no one is offended or that he is fully understood. Certain methods he would use to overcome such
issues are greeting people on a last name basis. Also refraining on using most signed gestures, as

if someone is lying, they can often be called out on it due to certain cues such as scratching or
excessive facial expressions. There is also a technique that can be used to speak to deaf people
called signing. A person can maintain a full conversation with someone who cannot hear by using
their hands to sign words and letters.
Positive language:
These forms of communications can all be conveyed as either positive or negative For example.
maintaining eye contact and smiling could be considered positive language as they show that you
are interested, happy and non threatening. Also, a higher pitched voice tone can express enthusiasm
and willingness.
Negative Language:
Negative language can also be used to express emotions opposite to those described for positive
language. Where maintaining eye contact and smiling show enthusiasm, interest and kindness, not
maintaining could show a complete disinterest, being bored and rudeness. Frowning is another
form as negative communication as it shows negative emotions such as confusion and anger.
There are also type of negative body language such as crossing your arms and your general stance.
Crossing your arms could be seen and obstructive and indifferent and expressing that type of
negative body language will likely impact and effect the flow of conversation and possibly upset

Reverie Exhibit
For every photograph beautiful or not lies a story.
For days, I ve been wondering what to display on my designated place and space come the
opening of the exhibit of the whole class. For someone who does not plan on having what is
excessive, a daydream themed exhibit has put me for days of thorough thinking and self
assessment. I have gone planning from short film about romance to abstract paintings of a complete
family and still, at the end of the day, the challenge got me thinking what do I daydream about?
I just lost my grandfather last Thursday merely just a week before this Reverie Exhibit. There was
no way I could produce new photographs that would manifest the concepts and schemes I had in

I guess I have come to the end of that day when I asked what is really out there to daydream

Why Boys Don t Play With Dolls By Katha Pollitt And Silko...
In our society today, there are many ways identity plays a role in how people live their lives, as
well as how people are viewed or treated by others. A big part of a person s identity comes from
their gender. Men and women are raised differently, whether it be their beliefs and ways of
thinking, how they view their future, or the actions they choose to take throughout their lifetime.
In both Katha Pollitt and Silko s essays, they discuss the differences in the lives of men and
women and how these differences result from society s expectations by using metaphors and life
examples to explain their message to the reader, as well as allow the reader to connect to this
message.
In Why Boys Don t Play With Dolls, Pollitt writes about the differences between growing up as a
boy growing up as a girl. She brings up the stereotypes that society naturally creates between
genders in early ages, which leads to the lifestyle and path that boys and girls are raised in.
Parents and feminist alike play a big part in establishing these sex roles. They raise their kids
wanting them to be successful at what they are expected to be good at based on their gender and the
trend that has been set before them.
In an excerpt from Pollitt s essay, she references a metaphor of the lives of boys and girls through a
doll and a truck, as well as Mars and Venus when she says, A girl with a doll and a boy with a truck

systems. As well, the potential benefits and obstacles to these changes will be explored. HEB
Manitoba is the pension and benefit provider for 70,000 active and retired healthcare workers in
Manitoba. It emerged from the consolidation of three pension plans during two mergers in the mid
1990s. Since the mergers, it has grown from 12 employees to more than 150 employees. It has a
proto typical hierarchal organization, with 1 senior executive, 5 executives, 25 managers and
approximately 120 employees. Some managers have no employees reporting to them, but managers
with direct reports average about eight employees each. The departments divide according to job
function, including finance, corporate services, pensions and benefits, disability and information
systems. The majority of the departments split into further sub departments, with the largest
department, the pension and benefits department, consisting of 57 employees. Workflow generally
stays within one department, but can cross over between departments. Sub departments typically
focus on specific tasks, such as reviewing files for data accuracy, preparing pension calculations, or
administering the information network. As the largest department, the

The Love Languages Of The Children
It is a universal truth that we all need love in our lives. We all have different ways in which we
like to receive and give love. Many of us may not even realize that we do. Gary Chapman writes
about five different ways in which we love and titles them five love languages. It is important to
identify how we love, because it can allow us to have a happier life and make other people s lives
better. It is especially important to identify the love languages of the children which we
encounter, because it can shape their identity either for the better or worse. There are five major
love languages that can be identified and can pretty much sum up the best ways we can express
our love. The five love languages are touch, words of affirmation, giving, time, and service. A child
s love languagecan be identified in two ways, through observation and through communication,
which pretty much also depends on their love language. We can observe the childand see if he
enjoys touching his parents and siblings, or if he does things and then looks to see what the
parent will say or perhaps just sits next to their siblings and follows them around. Love languages
are adaptable and although most humans have all the love languages, some are stronger than
others. The love languages of the parents effects what the love languages of the children will be.
For example if the parents hug a lot or if they buy gifts for each other the child can adopt that gift
and want to use it

The Disillusionment Of Optimism In Candide, By Voltaire
In the novel Candide, Voltaire satirizes the disillusionment of optimism by depicting a multitude of
hardships seen around the world. Candide, the open minded protagonist, has been exposed to
Pangloss s optimistic philosophy for the majority of his life. However, throughout the course of the
novel, it becomes increasingly difficult to see the positive side of all the catastrophe surrounding
him. It is only after he starts doubting this philosophy that Candide starts to become influenced by
the teachings of Martin. Although Candide resides in security at the conclusion, Voltaire
draws on the
disastrous events seen throughout the novel and utilizes Martin s pessimistic point of view to claim
that human nature is incomplete without suffering.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In a way, Martin acts as the embodiment of Voltaire s opinions, as the author constantly satirizes
optimism in the novel. For example, when Candide sees Vanderdendur s ship sink after stealing
Candide s money, he comments that crime is sometimes punished (Voltaire 93). This statement
itself inherently points to the loss of optimism within Candide, as he admits that some crime does
go unpunished. Furthermore, Martin draws truth the innate evil of the world by pointing out that
the devil has drowned the rest (94) of the ship s members. Even though the bad deed of the Dutch
captain had been punished, it came with the effect of killing a larger amount of innocent men.
Through this sequence of events, Voltaire thus states that a righteous event can only occur at the
expense of inflicting suffering upon others. The end of the novel places Pangloss and Martin
together on the farm in Constantinople, and it is in this tranquil setting that readers find the most
revealing truths of humanity. At this point, the pessimismof Martin has become such a large
influence that even Cacambo and the old woman draw similar conclusions about humanity. While
on the farm, Martin makes his final judgment and states that the restlessness of anxiety or ... the
lethargy of boredom (140) are the only choices man could make in life. Both of these choices

My mother and I were with my aunt during her grim diagnosis of ovarian cancer; we sat

There are only a few firms that make up this industry and they have control over the price. These
companies have high barriers to entry the market. The products they produce are similar which
cause competition. There is both good and bad when it comes to oligopoly and monopolies.
Some good things about oligopoly are by developing product innovations and taking advantage
of economies of scale. With oligopoly it is more likely to expand production capabilities,
promote economic growth, and they develop change that advances the level of technology (
Oligopoly, 2000). Some bad things about oligopoly is that they tend to be inefficient in the
allocation of resources and promotes the concentration of income and wealth ( Oligopoly,
2000). They charge much higher prices and end up producing less of an output than the
efficiency benchmark of perfect competition. One of the good forms is natural monopoly.
Natural monopoly exists when economies of scale encourage production by a single producer
(Mayer). An example of this is your local electrical utility. As a power plant increases, the cost
per kilowatt hour of electricity falls (Mayer). If we were to all use small generators to run our
homes the cost of each household would be ridiculous. The total fixed cost of generators for the
community would be high and the variable cost of running it would also be high. Another form of
monopoly that is good is

Why Do Nuclear Power Plants Go Wrong
From an environmental standpoint nuclear power plants are extremely clean when it comes to
electrical power generation. However, there are a lot of ways where nuclear power plants can go
wrong. Improperly functioning a nuclear power plant can create problematic situations. Take the
Chernobyl disaster for instance, because of their poorly designed nuclear powerplant it released tons
of radioactivity which scattered across the atmosphere. This resulted in everyone leaving the city.
Another recent incident was in Fukushima (Japan), a tsunami hit the nuclear power plants which
caused the tins to break and release radioactivity as well. Still to this day there is radioactive dust

The Black Civil Rights Movement
The history of United States is drenched in the fight for equality in the society. From women to
gay rights but it is undeniable that the black civil rights was the bloodiest and most violent among
them. Two methods were used to bring message to the people: the violent or the non violent way.
Most activists and civil rights group like Martin Luther King Jr., NAACP (National Association for
the Advancement of Colored People) and CORE (Congress of Racial Equality) at that time chose
for the latter but one did not follow that lead: the infamous Black Panthers Party. Each method had
its effect on the history for the equality of African Americans. The majority of participants in the
civil rights movement chose the non violent way. Within this path, individuals and groups took
different approaches to the method. There were individual protests here and there. The prominent
of the black civil rights movement began after the Brown vs. Board of Education decision where
the Court declared state laws establishing separate public schools for black and white students to be
constitutional. The court case brought notice to the world about the state of African Americans.
Organized Civil Rights Movements went on the rise after that. People began to apply civil
disobedienceto achieve their goals. Rosa Parks, a prominent figure in the Movement, was famous
for her action on one of her bus rides. The law back then required African Americans to sit in the
back of the bus but she refused to do

No Easy Way Out
The war between capital punishment and life without parole is an ongoing debate being waged
between the states. Capital Punishment, or the death penalty, is the process by which an individual
is put to death by the state for a capital offense, whereas life without parole is when a capital
offender is sentenced to a life behind bars with no opportunity for freedom. The choice to adopt or
abolish capital punishmentis up to each state, and it is the state s verdict to determine if capital
punishment is unjust or not. I do not believe in the capital punishment for four very important
reasons: to execute an inmate the humane and correct way costs more than a lifetime in prison, it is
not a deterrent for crime, the innocent may be wrongly... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The FBI has found that states that enforce the death penalty have a higher murder rate than those
who have abolished it. I believe we should increase the number of police officers, reduce drug
abuse, and improve our economy so that it has more jobs to lower the rate of crime in our
nation, not kill people who want to be killed (Hugo). On occasion, the judicial system is found of
unlawfully accusing innocent victims to life without parole and have sent them to Death Row.
Studies have shown that since 1992, fifteen inmates on Death Row have been set free for being
proven innocent. Such a high number indicates a high possibility that more inmates may be
exonerated in the future for crimes they did not commit. No person should be put to death in that
manner, I would rather them be forced to suffer an eternity in a minute, confined cell with nothing
than for them to be put down. DNA advances are being made to allow scientists and law
enforcement officers to better determine the responsible party for each case, and so those wrongly
accused may get a reprieve from their sentence to be set free (Crime Library). These are only a few
of the several reasons that capital punishment should not be implemented into our jail system, but
there must be some upsides to this cruel punishment, right? Prison systems across the nation are
growing ever more crowded by the year.

What Is The Theme Of USup De Des
Un Coup de Des Analysis Extra Credit
In english, Un Coup de Des means the throw of the dice. This poem begins with heavy imagery of a
ship being tossed around in the sea. However, the meaning is something different, not quite as
literal, and the symbolism throughout the poem is what makes this possible.
The ship mentioned in the start of the poem could easily be a symbol for just a simple person being
thrown into the world with endless opportunities, yet still a big shadow or abyss of the scary
unknown is always there to accompany it. The unknown might toss you around like the raging
waves of the ocean in a storm crashing high or might make you feel comfortable in a lul between

From this portion of the poem it could be argued that it is refering to the time that God was
physically on earth, having the whole world at his feet, literally, then later he dies. However, he
did not just disappear completely because he is still all around in spirit controlling everything.
Next it moves on to speak of a man without a vessel who is empty symbolizing maybe he is
empty because he does not know God, who is a vessekl that could save him the perils of the
storm. In the portion following, the poem talks about a demon in a way that he may not be a
figure as well known as God, but he could be the one responsible for leading the empty men to
the dark side as opposed to helping them overcome it, disguising it as his childlike shade .
However, the statement the veil of illusion proves that this is nothingmore than an illusion and
everything is not as it seems, and this veil will fall and reveal the true evil. The next part of the
poem shifts the mood slightly it takes on a lighter feel. It talks about silence

Dominican Women
Title: Important Women in the Dominican Republic and their Stories. Women in the Dominican
Republic are treated the exact same way that women in the

women that were trained to serve their husband and have children to carry their last names. Iconic
women in the Dominican Republic can be traced back to the independence of the Republic.
However, literature on iconic women from the Dominican Republic is not available and very

Audit and Assurance Services
Title: Audit Assurance services Introduction Advance in technology, globalization and
internationalization are affecting the method organizations are conducting businesses in the
contemporary business environment. Changes in the method that organizations employ in
conducting business also increase the danger of fraudulent financial reporting. Financial failures
and high profile scandals within business environment between 2000 and 2002 have necessitated
market regulators to call for scrutiny in the corporate financial reporting in the United States. The
occurrence of fraudulent practices within business environment made the stakeholders to call for
risk management, governance as well as increase in the scrutiny and quality in auditing and
assurance. Following the WorldCom and Euron s fraud scandals that eroded the confidence of
investors in the United States, the government focuses on the impact of external auditing practice
on the quality of financial reporting. In 2001, Euron Corporation filed for bankruptcy with $62
billion worth of assets. The downfall of Euron made thousands of employees to lose their jobs
making thousands of shareholders to lose their money. In 2002, WorldCom also filed for
bankruptcy with $100 billion worth asset making Euron case appear small in comparison. High
profile scandals that swept across the United States between 2001 and 2002 have shown that quality

Short Term Memory
By strengthening an existing synapse in some way you can create a neural pathway in a short time.
There are many local short term memory circuits in the brain. Biochemical modification and
rehearsal of synapses mediates the short term memory function. The hippocampus releases fresh
memory traces with the cortex, eventually blending memorypatterns in the cortex via gene
expression into the protein modified synapses of long term memory. The blending process could
take days or even weeks for deeply set long term memory. So synapses in the cortex that were first
circuits for the short term memory became through rehearsal and blending molecularly engraved as
long term memory.[7]
An individual neuron can be a part of a lot of memory patterns. The thousands of synapses of its
dendritic tree will have different activity configurations for each of the memory patterns in which it
participates.[7] ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Land Rights in Australia Essay
This essay is about the land rights of of Australia and how Eddie Marbo was not happy about his
land been taken away from him. In May 1982 Eddie Marbo and four other people of the Murray
Islands began to take action in the high court of Australia and confirming their land rights. Eddie
Marbo was a torres islander who thought that the Australian laws were wrong and who went to
fight and try and change them. He was born in 1936 on Mer which is known as Murray Island. The
British Crown in the form of the colony of Queensland became of the sovereign of the islands when
they were annexed in1978. They claimed continued enjoyment of there land rights and that had not
been validly extinguished by the sovereign. (Australian Bureau of Statistics... Show more content on

Marbo did not just give up on this and he kept on trying to get his land rights and get other rights
for indigenous people of Australia.
There was a lot of significant things that happened in the Marbo decision. Marbo changed a lot of
the rights for the Australian indigenous people. He got the land rights and human rights back for
them. It still wasn t easer for Mabo to win his rights though because they wanted to mine his land
and make money out of it. In the year 1993 Federal Pavement had passed the Native Title act which
had established legal framework for the native claims through out the country. Unfortunately
Eddie Marbo was not around to see his victory. He had died of cancer and he was fifty five years
old. It was just before the high courts decision. There were two of the five Murray Island
plaintiffs were alive by the time when the ruling was handed down. The third anniversary was held
at Eddies grave. Eddie Marbo s body went back to the Murray Islands were he lived most of his life.
(Patrick Hatch,2013)
When the decision went through the indigenous people had there rights they could stand on. They
could have there own rights to have there land and have there rights to live and have the right
treatment in this world. It was not fair how the governments also ripped the children away from
there families as well. The Marbo decision was a very significant and a very important moment in

Dream tools
As a professional automotive technician, he or she relies mostly on the knowledge he or she has
acquired throughout the years of training and experience. But without tools, a technician is pretty
much useless when it comes to repairing the vehicle. That is why I have comprised a list of tools
that would be in my Dream toolbox . The tools that I have chosen consist of diagnostic aids,
driveline repair tools, and air impact wrench that can be used for a number of uses consisting of;
light engine work, steering and suspension work, and electrical systems work. The tools I have
listed will benefit me as a technician by helping me diagnose and test vehicle quicker, allowing me
to fix more vehicles in a shorter amount of time.
The first tool I would place in my dream toolbox would be the Snap on MODIS Ultra Modular
Diagnostic and Information System (MODIS). The MODIS Ultra is a diagnostic scan tool that

Used more in the steering and suspension, driveline and powertrain systems, these sockets come
in handy when technicians have to remove axles or wheel hubs. The large nut that holds an axle
together is well oversized for any conventional socket set, and since the use of an impact wrench
will be used to remove the nut, it is recommended to use the proper impact socket so that the
regular chrome socket does not break or shatter, causing a potentially harmful accident.
Manufacture by Snap on tools, the socket set costs $243 and is well used in the industry as many
steering and suspension components do tend to wear more. And when needed, the socket set can
come in handy. And with their lifetime warranty, it is free to replace if

Stewardship Theory Theories
Identify the main differences between each of the theoretical perspectives outlined by Tricker
The theoretical perspectives presented by Tricker clearly outline the importance that is now
attached to corporate governance but also support the view that there remains an absence of one
accepted framework, central to each perspective however is the focus on relationships and the
impact the foundation of these relationships has on the subsequent approach to governance. The
agency theory The basis of which is described as a contractual relationship between an agent and
a principal wherein the agent is engaged to act on behalf of principal, the presumption being that
in such a relationship both parties act solely in their own interest which may not always be
aligned. The theory is based on the belief that people are naturally greedy and self serving and
that the agents will not exercise the same level of care and diligence as they would were it their
own property for which they were responsible for. The argument is made in the readings that this
theory may be redundant in a modern context given the size of some organisations and the
relevant distance that may now exist between the original principal and the agent, however the
theory and the dilemma associated with it are the basis of a large proportion of corporate
governance rules as efforts were made to have in place the required level of protection for
principles.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Seven Amendments
The constitution of the United States of America is the founding document on which the
government of America is built. It currently has twenty seven amendments. It lines out the specific
government practices as well as the system of check and balances. It was first drafted July, 1787
after the first form of government, the articles of confederation, had proven very inefficient to a
point where it became almost redundant to have them in place. After a large amount of debate the
acting continental congress decide to completely revise the current system. The constitution was
efficient and fair and it kept the parts of government in place while not giving too much power to
one or more branches.
After outlining that, the document begins to outline the basic civil liberties and rights that the
average citizen receives. These are called the amendments. They are the foundation on what the
freedom of America is built with. The amendments spell out the freedoms that Americans had,
everything from the right of religious freedoms to the right to bear arms both of which are regularly
debated subjects today. They made America what America was, the freest country in the world
Each of the amendments had their own set of rights to protect. The first protects Religion and the
right to practice it. The first amendment to the United States Constitution prohibits the making of
any law respecting an establishment of religion, impeding the free exercise of religion, abridging
the freedom of

What Role Does Christianity Play In The Chronicles Of Narnia
Many would say that the chronicles of Narnia series, the Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe in
particular were perhaps one of the best childhood books to be around, but not many know that the
religious symbolism of Christianity plays a key role in the Chronicles of Narnia.
This essay will focus on the teachings of Christianity and how it plays a significant role in the movie
the chronicles of Narnia. The following factors will be used to discuss Christianity and how it
interlinks with The Chronicles of Narnia, namely: Religion, the definition of Christianity, Who
Jesus and Judas are, a summary of the chronicles of Narnia, how Christianity plays a key role in
the chronicles of Narnia, and how Jesus and Judas are portrayed throughout the film. References
such as Roger Schmidt, Ninian Smart and many others will be made to support the ideas discussed
in this essay. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
how does one define religion? a complicated question asked by many, although often hard to
answer, according to the Oxford Dictionary Religion is a belief in the existence of god or gods
who has/have created the universe and given man a spiritual nature which continues to exist after
the death of the body a particular system of faith and worship based on such belief controlling
influence on one s life something one is devoted or committed to Another definition of religion
would be beliefs and practices related to the sacred, which unifies adherents (followers/worshippers)
(Schmidt,1931). Although there had been many definitions as to what religion could be, it had all
seemed to say the same thing, that religion is belief in and worship of an unseen higher power, a
controlling Being. Although religion itself can be quite fascinating, Christianity can perhaps be the

Sense And Sensibility Essay
Kate Hamill s Sense and Sensibility, under the direction of Taiba Magar, provided a compelling
experience into modern theatre. The performance presents an in depth look into 1790s England and
the emergence of the sensibility movement, a response to the growing tensions of the time.
Utilizing costuming, lighting, effective story telling, and stage design, Sense and Sensibility
highlights the social pressures of the 1790s through Elinor and Marianne, the story s protagonists.
While performed on the same stage as The Cake, it told a very different story. Instead of modern
day Winston Salem, it took place in England in the late 18th century. It tells of the Dashwood

Photosynthesis Essay
Photosynthesis
Photosynthesis is the most important part of the lively hood of humans and animals.
Without photosynthesis we would not be able to receive energy. We should be more appreciate of

for photosynthesis, the role of chlorophyll, how energy is transferred, and photosystems I and II
and the most precious product results of photosynthesis.
Photosynthesis is a reproductive system that occurs in plants. The main components required for

One could say that it is the house where photosynthesize occur. The chlorophyll never changes from
its original form nor is combined when photosynthesis occurs.
Plants absorb energy from the sunlight whether on land or in the water. The energy is transferred to
humans and some animals that eat plants. Some animals are not able to eat plants so they eat
other animals who has energy stored up in them. Humans also receive a source of energy from
animals that we eat. What is quite amazing is that maggots receive energy from animals that have
been dead for a long period of time.
Photosynthesis has a two stage performance before plants produce the two products they are known
to produce. These stages are Photosystem I and II. Photosystem II is dependant on light reactions
for energy which causes the electrons to be react and be transferred to Photosystem II. The electrons
are transported through the Photosystem II electron transport system, however some energy is
used to drive ATP synthesis. Meanwhile, light is being absorbed by the Photosystem I, which
causes the electrons to react. This process sends the electrons to the Photosystem I transport
system where some energy is released as electrons travel through the electron transport system and
is captured as NADPH. When this process is completed oxygen is released from the plant and
glucose has been

The Personality Of Antisocial Personality Disorder
Today it is estimated that .6 to 4% of the general population are thought to have antisocial
personality. (Thompson, 2014) Antisocial disorder is a personality disorder in which a person
may have behavioral deficits or tendencies not accepted as normal by society s standard. Antisocial
personality disorder is sometimes also known as sociopathy. Someone who has this disorder may
be called a sociopath. Some behavioral deficits seen in sociopaths include, superficial charm,
pathological lying, lack of remorse, shallow emotions, and need for stimulation. (Horley, 2014)

MacKenzie discusses in her article how psychopaths are generally internally affected and
experience psychological difficulties, whereas sociopaths are not as internally affected, most of
the time they are only affected in their relationship with society (2014). To focus further on
sociopathic disorder, Dr. Paula MacKenzie discusses this history of the disorder. MacKenzie
defines sociopathy as a personality disorder characterized by a lack of social responsibility and
failure to adapt to ethical and social standards of the community (Mosby s Medical, Nursing,
Allied Health Dictionary, 2002, p. 1599). After she defines the many personality disorders she
discusses in the article, she discusses how much of the research of behavioral disorders began in
the 1800 s when mental asylums became popular (2014). The first classification of a disorder
similar to sociopathy was manie sans delire or insanity without delirium. Even though psychopathy
is the disorder that is said to be genetic, there are significant differences in the biological brains of
individuals with sociopathic disorder and those without it. In an article by Blair and Cipolotti, an
individual with sociopathic disorder was studied and assessed, and the findings are discussed.
When the individual was given a CT scan, an enlarged image of the brain was compared to that of
a neuro typical individual. In the visual comparison, there is a clear difference of the

Using Wireless Sensor Network Systems
Introduction
A typical manufacturing factory is facing problems in computerizing their systems. To computerize

benefits to the industry by cost effectiveness, empowering a mobile workforce, plant security with

technology has been implemented from the field to the control room. The one wireless device has
a self discovering and self organizing managed and secure wireless field instrument mesh network.
They talk to each other and bridge the wireless network together. They use the IEEE 802.11
standard that increases the network performance and improve air quality. The instruments in the
field send data through neighboring instruments back to the gateway device. This is used for non
critical monitoring and they do not require a fast update rate. The more the instruments the faster
the update rate, this could be as fast as one a second. There is a pitfall to these devices and that is
battery life, but this can be alleviated with adding more access points. Most of the time users get
three years battery life from their field instruments while using a one second update rates.

Comparison Of Burma And Chile
My reasoning behind using Burma and Chile, is that these two cases are both similar in the fact that
the factions were important in demanding change, but both obtained different outcomes. The
reason why I believe that Burma failed in its attempt to become a democratic state, was due to
having an enormous amount of participants that were willing to die for democracy, but overall their
movements lacked in quality. According to Chenoweth and Stephan, internal disunity and the
presence of multiple armed factions weakened the opposition resistance (Chenoweth Stephan
p.185). In Burma, its populace knew that they had to protest and riot unjust actions that General Ne
Win carried out, the objective of the movements were not clear and neither was

shape around the circle pad of antibiotic that represents the effectiveness of an antibiotic at a given
dosage. It is measured in millimeters and included the diameter of the disk of antibiotic. We

coli, and the other was for s. epi. We covered the inside of each petri dish (that had a jelly base)
with the bacteria it was designated for. After that, we split both dishes into four sections. In the
middle of each section we would put an antibiotic disc. After all four of the antibiotics were
placed in each dish with tweezers, they were incubated overnight. The next day, we measured
the zone of inhabitance around each antibiotic disc. I had two statements in my hypothesis. If S.
epi is gram positive, then penicillin, streptomycin, and tetracycline will be effective on it
because each one reacts with gram positive bacteria. If E. coli is gram negative, then
streptomycin and tetracycline will be effective on it because each one reacts with gram positive
bacteria. I reject the first statement in my hypothesis because only one of the antibiotics was
susceptible on s. epi, while the others were resistant. I accept my second hypothesis because both
streptomycin and tetracycline were susceptible on the e. coli bacteria. We can relate this
experiment to the outside world by testing the effectiveness of antibiotics on certain diseases and
infections. This important for the care and treatment of people so they can continue living their

  • 2. Essay on Cycles of Violence in The Battler Cycles of Violence in The Battler Ernest Hemingway s The Battler provides a continued account of Nick Adams dangerous and violent life. Previous stories compiled in The Short Stories edition of Hemingway s work documents some of the tribulations of Nick Adams, one of Hemingway s protagonists. Apparently, Nick has been plagued by moments of sheer humility, terror, and immutable violence. In the Hemingway short story Indian Camp, Nick is a young boy who witnesses a dreadfully difficult birth by a Native American woman, enduring all the while the hubris of his surgeon father, who is contestibly insensitive to Nick s innocence. Once the birth has ended, the husband of the woman is found with a freshly slit throat, again ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... 130) His state of affairs does not improve, however. Nick happens upon a camp of tow men, one of whom is an ex prizefighter, Ad Francis. Upon arrival, Nick calls out, Hello, and is greeted by Ad with Where d you get that shiner? (p. 130) Not a typical response, but Nick is about to learn he is not in a set of typical circumstances. Ad Francis face is described queerly formed and mutilated...putty in color, with a sunken nose, slitted eyes and with only one ear. (p. 131) Clearly, the implication is that Ad Francis has seen some beatings in his day. This is confirmed by the man himself: They all bust their hands on me...they couldn t hurt me. (p. 132) The extreme physical toll taken by Ad has affected him mentally. Listen, he tells Nick, I m not quite right. (p. 132) Like Nick, Ad is a man who has encountered violence and humiliation all of his life. Countless blows have found their mark on his now deformed face. In a way, Ad is a physical representation of Nick s fortitude and perserverance, a fellow sufferer whose pain has surfaced in a more tangible way, who takes immediate notice of things like black eyes. Soon after Nick s introduction to Ad, another man approaches the fire. Nick is introduced to Bugs as Ad s pal...he s crazy too. (p. 133) Physically, Bugs is a stark contrast to Ad s figure: tall, black, low voiced and calm. Bugs begins to cook a dinner of ham and eggs over the campfire that the ... • 3. The Abolishment Of The Electoral College The controversial presidential election of 2000, Al Gore won a majority of the popular vote, but he did not win the electoral college votes. George W. Bush won the presidency that year and Americans began to question the abolishment of the Electoral College (Wilcox 1). The identical problem reappeared during the 2016 presidential election, when Donald Trump lost the popular vote to Hillary Clinton by over 2.8 million votes, but he earned 74 votes more votes than Hillary Clinton in the Electoral College, which resulted in Donald Trump becoming the 45th president of The United Statesof America. Popular votes in the presidential election are more adequate and civil for The United Statesof America because the people are casting a vote directly for the possible future president rather than casting a vote to the electors of each state. The United States of America does not elect its president by a popular vote, but instead uses a process to select its leader, but it may not be the politicians a majority of voters were in favor of (Noble 1). The establishment of the Electoral College was created in 1804 in Article II of the US Constitution. The Electoral College was fashioned as a settlement for the presidential election growth because politicians assumed that a popular election was too careless and would give too much power to highly populated places in our country (Williams 1). How the Electoral College is set up is after the popular votes from the state are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Essay On Media Image Of Women Everywhere you turn society is being presented with images of perfection, beauty, or sexuality. Some of these images represent unrealistic or unreachable expectations and can be truly harmful. It is common to see women exploited in reality TV shows and music videos. Young women are also influenced by the images that they see in commercials, billboards, internetsites, and movies. These images serve to harm a womans self confidence and also are affecting their overall health. Today s mass mediamessages are having a negative effect on how women perceive themselves. I would like to propose a project which involves analyzing several women, of many different age groups, across their lifespan while testing how much the media affects their... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The third and last theory is called Bandura s social cognitive theory. This theory assumes that people model and learn from the behaviors of attractive individuals. Women want to emulate the body images of the thin attractive models through dieting. Eventually, negative effects result from this such as anorexia and bulimia. After the theories were described, the article states that thirty four studies were conducted. Thirteen out of the thirty four studies were surveys and twenty one of the studies were experiments. The media was measured and recorded for all studies with the categories ranging from magazines and photos, to movies and television shows. Ten studies were measured by exposure from fitness and fashion magazines. Seventeen studies were examined using a photo measure. Typically, the photo measure consisted of advertisements with thin woman. Three studies used a general mass media measure, which measured general media use. One study included a movie measure and another included a computer measure. The analysis implies that there is a relationship between body image and media, but the relationship is minute. The article says that one reason why some woman may not compare themselves to the thin woman in the images is because they are constantly exposed. Finally, the article concludes by stating that a manipulation of exposure length, outcome measures, and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The average of fraction defective is merely a number which cannot tell us what to do with it even when we get it. Thus SPC is more accurate and systematic to analyze the process of customer service operation. 2. Primary challenges There are basically two challenges that implementing the SPC to a service company: 1) Difficulties of deciding and selecting what to measure and 2) Too much uncertainty because of the human behavior 3. Sample: how SPC works Here is an example of employing SPC (P Chart) for DAV s PMV project. The first 12 weeks of the data displayed in Appendix I represent the diagnostic period for the Policy Extension Group. From the calculation (See Appendix I), we get the 3 sigma control limits for the process, i.e. UCL=0.091, LCL=0.014. These control limits indicate that if the error proportion is within the range of [0.014, 0.091], the process is under control; if not, the process is out of control. Here is the P Chart for the data from Week 13 to Week 30. [pic]

Thus, making nature win. In 1999 Tim Burton directed a movie that was based on Washington Irvings short story. In his version everyone knew what happened to Ichabod Crane. Even though Ichabod Crane saw the Headless Horsemen with his own eyes, he still thought science and logic was superior. When he saw the Headless Horsemen for the first time he was in a state of panic, did not know what to believe in anymore. Eventually, he got a grip on himself and says there must be an explanation for everything, and therefore believes there is a perfectly logical explanation for what is happening in the town of Sleepy hollow. However, once Ichabod Crane, Young Masbath, and Katrina Van Tassel went into the Western Woods and found the Headless Horseman burial site and they saw him spring forth from the dead blood tree. This made Ichabod Crane question everything aging since the tree represents the bringing together of two worlds. (50:00) He came back to logic and science when he figured out that someone was controlling the Headless Horsemen to kill all these people. (59:01) He always managed to find his way back to science and logic. Tom took his place, the pungent aroma of hot sex assaulting his senses. Holding onto his cock he popped the tip in and out teasing her, driving her crazy for it. Just as she thought she couldn t take any more he thrust deep within making her gasp with each stroke, her whole existence focused on the cock invading her. Desperately needing something to hold on to she grasped Mal s shaft and pumped him in time with Tom s thrusts. Pulling him closer she clamped her lips around him, her moans vibrating through to his balls. This time Tom wasn t holding back, he increased his pace, reaming her cunt with his T shaped tool, his fingertips gouging her hips as he fucked her harder, faster, each thrust forcing Shaowei s mouth further onto Mal s cock making her choke as they viciously fucked her from both ends. The world became an erotic blur. Shaowei felt like she was on a carousel whirling faster and faster. Lack of oxygen, muddled her thoughts, she couldn t absorb it, couldn t breathe, couldn t think, her whole being spiralling out of control as two, four, six orgasms worthy of the Guinness book of records, rattled her body. • 9. Trait Theory Of The Great Man Theory Trait Theory Bass (1990; Koh, 1990) posited the historical evolution of leadership as commencing with the trait theory in the 1930s until to 1940s , in which the assumption was that leaders were born with special qualities which made them effective leaders. As a result, distinction was employed on in discovering universal traits which stood out between leaders and non leaders (Koh, 1990). Early studies investigated traits such as Intelligence, dominance, age, sex, height, and weight, but at last the trait theory was disputed when confirmation could not be established that specific traits were connected with effective leaders (Koh, 1990; Yukl, 2002). Trait Theory expresses the concept of inherent leadership qualities rather than something one learns. A few studies show leaders are exceptional people who are born with qualities to lead (Clawson, 2006; Stogdill, 1948). Great Man Theory stipulates that leadership is inherent and there is no amount of training or coaching that can help an individual acquire leadership qualities; one must have it in oneself (Stogdill, 1948). Effective leadership has a great quest for responsibility and task completion. Often leaders do not get frustrated easily but are vigorous in pursuing organizational goals, take risks, do not shy away from solving problems, and are driven to take initiative in social situations (Clawson, 2006; Stogdill, 1948). Furthermore, as argued by Kirkpatrick and Locke (1993) evidence shows that traits do matter in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

For many of these concepts, I was able to get a more in depth look into how they are applied. One item I really took away from the module reading was the budget process and how the different quarterly cycles work. Another process I learned a lot about was the BudgetExecution Review and how to properly forecast funding shortfalls. These items are currently not in my day to day operations, but will be in my near future. Currently, my position in the squadron does not afford many opportunities to apply resources stewardship skills. Managing people is the only facet of resource stewardship that I directly impact. • 13. Children With Special Needs A Wonderful Part Of Our World... Children with special needs are a wonderful part of our world today. A child with special needs bring a whole new life to those who they are around. They light up our world when we are around them and do not see when there is trouble with different issues. After watching the two movies, Lorenzo s Oil and The Other Sister, my eyes were opened even more about living with children who have special needs. Lorenzo s Oil is based on a true story of Michalla and Augosto Odone and their son Lorenzo. When Lorenzo is just five years old he is diagnosed with a disease called Adrenoleukodystrophy also called ALD. Once he is diagnosed the Odone s do everything they can to find a cure for this terminal disease. After talking with doctors they find out that Lorenzo only had about two years to love. With that being said both Michalla and Augosto do everything in their power to lengthen his prognosis. ALD is a genetic disorder that is X linked. This disease causes the body to not be able to break down the long chain of fatty acids, because of this then the myelin sheath that is around the nerves in the brain and the spinal cord begins to deteriorate. There are many different symptoms that one produces such as: hyperactivity, decreased school performance, difficulty understanding verbal communication, hard time swallowing, muscle spasms and change in muscle tone, loss of hearing, visual impairment or blindness, and seizures. These are just some of the symptoms that ALD patients have. Despite ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It s the guy that ignores the FBI warnings and does what he pleases with copyrighted work. Copyrightprotections are guaranteed by the United States Constitution under Article 1, Section 8, Clause 8 and are under federal jurisdiction through the U.S. Copyright Office. Established permanently through the Copyright Act of 1976 (p. 347), this doctrine allows for exclusions to the exclusive right granted by Copyright Law. As mentioned earlier, exclusions to copyright protection exist and are known as the Fair Use Doctrine. This doctrine was established in section 107 of the 1976 copyright act as a response to some major cases heard previously. Protected works that are used for the purpose of criticism, comment, news reporting, teaching, scholarship, or research fall into the realm of fair use and do not require payment or authorization from the creator. However, this only gives people a limited privilege, and not an absolute right to use the work. Folsom v. Marsh (1841), introduced the factors that underline the limited privileges of fair use. Although the appeals process found that fair use was not applicable in the case because the defendants had used too much of the work and earned a profit from it. • 15. Sonnet 130 Tone The world has many if not endless methods and techniques for demonstrating those specially dear a form of affection. However, the display of the complex understanding of Shakespeare, which to the opinion I lack to the fullest, in the 130th Sonnet, Sonnet 130, demonstrates the speaker s affection through the development of a complicated attitude through his use of certain writing attributes. • 18. Personal Reflection Essay As the first five weeks of Writing 39B have passed, I believe that I have made some improvements in my writing as a result of the feedback from the professor, the multiple writing assignments, and reading the Anteater s Guide to Writing and Rhetoric. Although I can still improve in all facets of my writing, the progress I have made so far was very much needed. One of the stages of my development took place in class. Although I was a bit reluctant and shy to participate at times in class, I learned a lot. The way the professor analyzed the 9/11 conspiracy video and some of the chapters in the The United States of Paranoia taught me how to see the author s purpose in creating the text and how the author appealed to the audience by presenting the text in different mediums. The mini group work done almost daily in class also helped me think more analytically about each text, which helped me writing my final RA. One of the class works was analyzing the opening paragraph of The Metamorphis by Franz Kafka. This task allowed me to see how the author s word choice can change the complete tone of the text and how the audience reacts differently to each type of tone. At the times in which I did participate, I felt that I contributed valuable information as the professor would usually expand on my comment in a positive way. In addition, participating also allowed me to feel confident about my ideas and thoughtprocess which enabled me to feel confident writing my assignments. From the very first RIP assignment, the feedback I ve received helped in aiding my final RA. Prior to this class, I didn t truly know how to be specific. Whether this be with a claim or audience, I was describing things broadly. In my RIP #1, where I had to identify a specific group with a shared interest. The group that I created was students in high school or college who are obsessed with social media. With the feedback, I learned that I could ve made it more specific by choosing just high school students not including college student and only Snapchat, and no other social media platforms. Moving on, a drastic change in my writing can be seen in the differences between CR #1 and CR #2. In CR #1, I explain that the author carries a casual yet ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Nanjing Massacre was arguably more atrocious than the atomic bombing of Hiroshima in terms of ongoing physical violence. The Japanese Imperial Army s invasion in China prolonged the Nanjing Massacre. Moreover, arguably, it was more atrocious in their case because their own government and army abandoned them. A survivor named Jiang Genfu had to watch his parents and siblings get killed by Japanese soldiers, at the age of nine. The Nanjing Massacre was hardly the unifying event that it has for the Chinese . No one could fathom the overall extent of the terror by looking at confidential accounts and diaries from Chinese survivors. An estimate of 200,000 Chinese civilians and war prisoners were massacred in Nanjing during the first six weeks of the Japanese invasion. Numbers may not mean anything, however, the violence was ongoing. Historians also had to take into account that not all numbers add up because published textbooks present varied information. Beijing stated that 300,000 people were massacred. Both sides often questioned the figures. Goblin men curse one sister after offering her special fruit, and the other sister must face the goblin men to save her sister from certain death (Rossetti 1 567). Poet Christina Rossetti employs a significant amount of symbolism in her work, Goblin Market. Examples of symbols used in the poem include fruit, Lizzie, goblinmen, and money. First, fruit is a symbol in Goblin Market. At the beginning of the poem, the goblin men advertise the fruits they are selling: Come buy our orchard fruits, Come buy, come buy: Apples and quinces, Lemons and oranges, Plump unpecked cherries, Melons and raspberries... In our society today, there are many ways identity plays a role in how people live their lives, as well as how people are viewed or treated by others. A big part of a person s identity comes from their gender. Men and women are raised differently, whether it be their beliefs and ways of thinking, how they view their future, or the actions they choose to take throughout their lifetime. In both Katha Pollitt and Silko s essays, they discuss the differences in the lives of men and women and how these differences result from society s expectations by using metaphors and life examples to explain their message to the reader, as well as allow the reader to connect to this message. In Why Boys Don t Play With Dolls, Pollitt writes about the differences between growing up as a boy growing up as a girl. She brings up the stereotypes that society naturally creates between genders in early ages, which leads to the lifestyle and path that boys and girls are raised in. Parents and feminist alike play a big part in establishing these sex roles. Many of us may not even realize that we do. Gary Chapman writes about five different ways in which we love and titles them five love languages. It is important to identify how we love, because it can allow us to have a happier life and make other people s lives better. It is especially important to identify the love languages of the children which we encounter, because it can shape their identity either for the better or worse. There are five major love languages that can be identified and can pretty much sum up the best ways we can express our love. The five love languages are touch, words of affirmation, giving, time, and service. A child s love languagecan be identified in two ways, through observation and through communication, which pretty much also depends on their love language. We can observe the childand see if he enjoys touching his parents and siblings, or if he does things and then looks to see what the parent will say or perhaps just sits next to their siblings and follows them around. Love languages are adaptable and although most humans have all the love languages, some are stronger than others. For example, when Candide sees Vanderdendur s ship sink after stealing Candide s money, he comments that crime is sometimes punished (Voltaire 93). This statement itself inherently points to the loss of optimism within Candide, as he admits that some crime does go unpunished. Furthermore, Martin draws truth the innate evil of the world by pointing out that the devil has drowned the rest (94) of the ship s members. Even though the bad deed of the Dutch captain had been punished, it came with the effect of killing a larger amount of innocent men. Through this sequence of events, Voltaire thus states that a righteous event can only occur at the expense of inflicting suffering upon others. Most activists and civil rights group like Martin Luther King Jr., NAACP (National Association for the Advancement of Colored People) and CORE (Congress of Racial Equality) at that time chose for the latter but one did not follow that lead: the infamous Black Panthers Party. Each method had its effect on the history for the equality of African Americans. The majority of participants in the civil rights movement chose the non violent way. Within this path, individuals and groups took different approaches to the method. There were individual protests here and there. The prominent of the black civil rights movement began after the Brown vs. Board of Education decision where the Court declared state laws establishing separate public schools for black and white students to be constitutional. The court case brought notice to the world about the state of African Americans. Organized Civil Rights Movements went on the rise after that. People began to apply civil disobedienceto achieve their goals. Rosa Parks, a prominent figure in the Movement, was famous for her action on one of her bus rides. • 39. No Easy Way Out The war between capital punishment and life without parole is an ongoing debate being waged between the states. Capital Punishment, or the death penalty, is the process by which an individual is put to death by the state for a capital offense, whereas life without parole is when a capital offender is sentenced to a life behind bars with no opportunity for freedom. The choice to adopt or abolish capital punishmentis up to each state, and it is the state s verdict to determine if capital punishment is unjust or not. I do not believe in the capital punishment for four very important reasons: to execute an inmate the humane and correct way costs more than a lifetime in prison, it is not a deterrent for crime, the innocent may be wrongly... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The FBI has found that states that enforce the death penalty have a higher murder rate than those who have abolished it. I believe we should increase the number of police officers, reduce drug abuse, and improve our economy so that it has more jobs to lower the rate of crime in our nation, not kill people who want to be killed (Hugo). On occasion, the judicial system is found of unlawfully accusing innocent victims to life without parole and have sent them to Death Row. Studies have shown that since 1992, fifteen inmates on Death Row have been set free for being proven innocent. Such a high number indicates a high possibility that more inmates may be exonerated in the future for crimes they did not commit. No person should be put to death in that manner, I would rather them be forced to suffer an eternity in a minute, confined cell with nothing than for them to be put down. DNA advances are being made to allow scientists and law enforcement officers to better determine the responsible party for each case, and so those wrongly accused may get a reprieve from their sentence to be set free (Crime Library). These are only a few of the several reasons that capital punishment should not be implemented into our jail system, but there must be some upsides to this cruel punishment, right? Prison systems across the nation are growing ever more crowded by the year. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This poem begins with heavy imagery of a ship being tossed around in the sea. However, the meaning is something different, not quite as literal, and the symbolism throughout the poem is what makes this possible. The ship mentioned in the start of the poem could easily be a symbol for just a simple person being thrown into the world with endless opportunities, yet still a big shadow or abyss of the scary unknown is always there to accompany it. Next it moves on to speak of a man without a vessel who is empty symbolizing maybe he is empty because he does not know God, who is a vessekl that could save him the perils of the storm. In the portion following, the poem talks about a demon in a way that he may not be a figure as well known as God, but he could be the one responsible for leading the empty men to the dark side as opposed to helping them overcome it, disguising it as his childlike shade . However, the statement the veil of illusion proves that this is nothingmore than an illusion and everything is not as it seems, and this veil will fall and reveal the true evil. Biochemical modification and rehearsal of synapses mediates the short term memory function. The agency theory The basis of which is described as a contractual relationship between an agent and a principal wherein the agent is engaged to act on behalf of principal, the presumption being that in such a relationship both parties act solely in their own interest which may not always be aligned. It lines out the specific government practices as well as the system of check and balances. The categories are resistant, intermediate, and susceptible. Resistant means that the antibiotic was not effective, intermediate means it was slightly effective, and susceptible ... After that, we split both dishes into four sections. In the middle of each section we would put an antibiotic disc. After all four of the antibiotics were placed in each dish with tweezers, they were incubated overnight. The next day, we measured the zone of inhabitance around each antibiotic disc. I had two statements in my hypothesis. If S. epi is gram positive, then penicillin, streptomycin, and tetracycline will be effective on it because each one reacts with gram positive bacteria. If E. coli is gram negative, then streptomycin and tetracycline will be effective on it because each one reacts with gram positive bacteria. I reject the first statement in my hypothesis because only one of the antibiotics was susceptible on s. epi, while the others were resistant. I accept my second hypothesis because both streptomycin and tetracycline were susceptible on the e. coli bacteria. We can relate this experiment to the outside world by testing the effectiveness of antibiotics on certain diseases and infections. This important for the care and treatment of people so they can continue living their lives. If I or a friend every needed to know the effectiveness of a antibiotic against a bacteria I can look up labs similar to this one to make sure we are taking the right ...
