Informative Speech About Bacteria
It was fall 1972 when Professor clark had discovered the bacteria. Professor Clark thought he
ruled the world for what he had discovered but he was soon going to learn what dark secrets the
government have been hiding from their fellow citizens. Okay class have a seat please, today
we are going to be going over something fascinating. Today we will be going over bacteria! If I
Must remind you guy s, a man from the government will be coming in to see what I Have
discovered so please show him respect and show me attention. (Knocking on the door) Oh!
Gracie would you get that please. Class I Would like to introduce you to our guest, Mr. Miller.
Okay shall we get started! First I Would like to go over what I Have discovered is the most
remarkable thing anyone has possibly came across and i m honored to be presenting this to you.
What I Have found is something called bacteria, not the good kind but the kind used in wars and
deadly attacks. Sadly we can t see it with the human eye but thanks to technology we have
microscopes, so please line up and one at a time look through the tube and observe the bacteria.
Now what you are looking at is one of the most deadly bacteria currently known to man
(Burkholderia cepacia) if this was to leave the container and accidentally it could sink in your skin
and get in your blood vessels spreading throughout your body then once it reaches the heart instant
death will occur. Mr.miller would you like to take a look? Why yes I Would thank you

Analysis Of Fun Home By Alison Bechdel
Analytical Essay on Fun Home By: Alison Bechdel Even though a lot of thing events that
happened to Bechdel was sad, dark, or scary she manages to use a very witty tone throughout the
story reflecting on her personality. She believes dark events are not central to one s life. She
uses this tone as oppose to an angry tone because she never realized her family was any different
until she was compared it to others. This strongly classifies Bechdel in the optimistic category of
personalities. The tone of this novel can strike many people as hard to determine or understand.
One of the best things about this novel is the consistency that Bechdel creates from her earliest
childhood memories all the way until the ending of the book. Tone is known to illustrate the
underlying feelings of the author. What is also very striking is Bechdel s lack of emotion when
any surprising event happens to her. What most tend to remember is when Mr. Bechdel s death
is announced to Bechdel and how she responds to the news. Speaking normally, or what most
would refer to as normal is to have some kind of emotional breakthrough when finding out their
loved one has passed in a tragic accident. Is he dead? (Bechdel 81). In these three words Bechdel
demonstrates her inability to fit into the mere normal category of reactions and blows the audience
away. Bechdel explains how she cried for about two minutes to her girlfriend at the time and that
was the most of mourning she did at all. Using the witty

Domino Effect Essay
Vietnam constantly battled for independence after it became a colony of France in the late 19th
century. After declaring their independence from the French at the end of World War II, Vietnam
became divided and started a civil war between the communist North and the democratic South.
Across the ocean, the United Statesfeared that Communism rising in the Soviet Union and China
would threaten the independence of their country; to prevent this from occurring, the United States
supported the South in the Vietnamese civil war. The attempt of the United States to protect their
freedom would prove to harm the Vietnamese in countless ways. President Dwight Eisenhower s
Domino Effect focused on removing the threat of communism in Europe and... Show more content

row of dominoes set up, he told reporters at a 1954 press conference. You knock over the first one,

Communism, then the theory assumed that Cambodia and Laos would soon become Communist.
Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia and the Philippines would follow shortly after. Once these countries
fell to Communism, it would only be a short time before the democracy of the United States would
be at risk. The country that posed the biggest threat was China, a newly formed Communist country

National Incident Management System NIMS
The National Incident Management System (NIMS) was put into place after 9/11 and is the
standard for all first responders when dealing with large scale events (NIMS, 2014). The Incident
Command System (ICS) is the structure for the NIMS and establishes separate but unified
sections and divisions to include operations, a commander, logistics, plans and finance (NIMS,
2014)). The ICS can grow or shrink depending on the size and scale of the event. The term Span of
Control implies that within the ICS, any individual with a supervisory position should oversee 3 to
7 subordinates. The span of control is key to effective and efficient incident management(ICS
Resource Center, 2008 p 3).
In one of the ICS s most basic forms, it empowers the Incident Commander (IC) to manage the
responding organization. It also puts forth an operations section chief to direct responders within
operations and communicate the IC s plan (NIMS, 2014). Depending on where an incident occurs
correlates to how well the responders are prepared, equipped and ready to deal with large scale
events. In some areas with less logistical resources and funds, incidents can turn into disasters that
challenge the local citizens and responders. That is exactly what happened in a coal mine in 2006
in Sago West Virginia.

The role of the IC in this case was unique in the sense that high carbon monoxide and methane
readings were detected sub surface and the usual planning cycle had to be expedited. Five four

release some of the poisonous gases. This incident also attracted world wide media coverage and
irregular reporting due to miscommunications plagued the ICS

Hypersexualized Images
Mental disorders and hypersexualized images. Regarding other influences and impacts of photo
manipulation on body images and beauty, Day (2014) states that the three most common mental
disorders caused by photo manipulation are eating disorder, depression and low self esteem.
Furthermore, she lists out several statistics and surveys that prove its negativity on human
beings: 80% of women feel worse about themselves after seeing a beauty ad and people as young
as thirteen begin to feel unsatisfied about their body and how they look. As shocking as it is, a
study included in Day s (2014) article states that adolescent girls are more afraid of gaining weight
than getting cancer, losing their parents or nuclear war. Photo manipulation also creates a
hypersexualized issue: A study done in 2011 by the journal Sexuality and Culture shows that 2%
of men and 61% of women are hypersexualized (Nelson, 2012, p.180). Retouched photos are
continuously used as sex sales and convey the wrong definition of sexy that is almost unreachable
(Nelson, 2012, p.218). Hypersexualized images mislead the generation today and alter their

Dreisbach (2012) includes a survey from Glamour revealing that among the people who have
manipulated their own photos, 65 percent remove skin imperfections, 36 percent fix stray hairs
and 34 percent whiten teeth. While women focus on erasing their wrinkles, smoothing their skin
and removing excessive body fats, men focus on toning their muscles and make them look leaner
(Dreisbach, 2012). A blogger from In The Frow (2015) expresses her thoughts regarding men who
are under the pressure of maintaining their body. She shares that there are numerous men who
already look healthy and fine yet there are people out there who hope to deter others from higher
levels of fitness, due to jealousy and insecurities of their own. (In The Frow,

Two Eyed Seeing
There are many ways one can see and understand the world. The way that the school system
authorized us to see and understand the world is through a western perspective. However, there
is another perspective that we should all see and understand the world as since we live on the
unceded territories; we should all see the world an Indigenous perspective too. This concept of
two eyed seeing is introduced by Mi kmaw Elders Albert and Murdena Marshall from Eskasoni, a
First Nation in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia (Martin, D. 2012, p. 31). The concept is specifically
introduced and applied to research in science. However, I believe that this concept can be applied
to life in general and in the classroom environment.

They are hiding the history of assimilation of Indigenous people in residential schools. By
continuing to teach with the western perspective, it is continuing to assimilate Indigenous
people. In B.C. s school system, there are over 60,000 students who self identify as being of
Aboriginal (First Nations, MГ©tis or Inuit) ancestry. (Province of British Columbia, 2017). Those
60,000 self identifying Aboriginal students are sitting in a school where they may be
misrecognized with stereotypes and are forced to learn the western perspective while possibly
learning an indigenous perspective at home. The B.C government states that Aboriginal Education
seeks to: improve the success of Aboriginal students, support all students learning about
Aboriginal peoples and help teachers in their efforts to bring Aboriginal knowledge into their
teaching practice. When thinking about this two eyed seeing, it reminded me of the story Edwina
Left Behind by Sören Wuerth. Edwina, a Native senior who was trying to pass the state s High
School Graduation Qualifying Exam to receive a diploma had failed because of the cultural
ignorance of standardized test. This is the reality of seeing through one eye. She did everything she
could to learn the western, standardized test yet she still failed. If the standardized test was tweaked
a little and included another perspective aside from the western perspective;

Negative Effects Of Homework
Lastly, homework results in a combination of corresponding negative physical and mental effects
within students. In the survey conducted on high schoolers in California, 56% of participants
admitted homework as their primary stressor, while less than 1% said homework was not a stressor
(Strauss). Regarding physical symptoms, 72% of students disclosed their constant state of anxiety
over school work, resulting in sleep deprivation, headaches, exhaustion, weight loss, stomach pain,
and the lack of stability in their lives (Strauss). Over 80% of the students encountered a physical
symptom in the timespan of a month, 44% of whom experienced three or more in that time period
(Strauss). In addition to this, parents argued their children do not have enough time to complete
chores, a skill that also trains a sense of responsibility within adolescents (Ponte). Furthermore,
homeworklimits a child s development of social skills, as it leaves them with little time to
interact with friends (Ponte). In addition to the shortage of social interactions among friends,
adolescents have limited time to converse with their family members as well. For example,
junior Julia Jones was assigned a group project over Winter Break, a time specifically created for
a vacation from school (Ponte). As expected, both of Julia s partners were on vacation one of
which being out of country (Ponte). Julia experienced high levels of stress as she and her group

Designing On Esp Study Zener Cards
Designing on ESP Study Zener cards The purpose of this essay is to create an experiment that
test whether or not psychics have clairvoyant power. 1a. Dr. Venkman believes that psychics are
the only one who has this special clairvoyant power that no regular person has. 1b. In his article
How ESP Works, Tom Harris reveals that no one are ability to prove that extra sensory
perception (ESP), exist. For example, Harris uses the scenario of a man who wrote a book about a
sunken ship, which had the same description as the Titanic. The book was published before the
Titanic was built. He was rewarded as a psychic, however this scenario limits the scientific method
because it occurs in an uncontrolled environment. In order to effectively demonstrate some good
evidences, scientists need to conduct an experiment that has a closely controlled condition. In John
Thomas facts sheet, he mentions that the evidences cited for ESP are usually anecdotal. He states
these anecdotal claimed that scientific tests at respected research institutions have conclusively
demonstrated that ESP exists. For example, as pointed out by Thomas, the SRI remote viewed
experiments claimed that subjects could see places through the eyes of others. However,
psychologies are unable to repeat the result of this experiment.

Essay about Mittell’s Television Genre Theory and Louie
Originally published in Cinema Journal 40, No. 3, Spring 2001, Jason Mittell s A Cultural
Approach to Television Genre Theory conceives of television genre as a cultural category rather
than merely a textual component. In the decade since the original publishing of the article,
television has evolved out of the multi channel era and into the post network era. In this new
television landscape, genresare no longer a fixed entity1, and there is great academic potential in the
in the study of television genres. The text, Thinking Outside the Box: A Contemporary Television

Finally, this concept of genre will be applied to the development of the central questions in my final
project.
LOUIE: A GENERIC DISCOURSE
Mittell suggests that genre studies should negotiate between specificity and generality, and offers
the following as an approach: The second way would be to start with a specific media case study
and analyze how genre processes operate within this specific instance. Such projects might isolate a
variety of starting points an industrial formation, audience practices, a textual instance, a policy
decision, or a moment in social history. We may start with a textual case to motivate our study, but
we must still examine how genres transcend textual boundaries and operate within audience and
industry practices as well.3 Also, according to the article, we should focus on the breadth of
discursive enunciations around any given instance, mapping out as many articulations of genre as
possible and situating them within larger cultural contexts and relations of power.4 So, any generic
discourse must begin with a full understanding of the context of a particular text in this case, Louie.

Essay on Plato’s The Republic
Plato s The Republic
In the simile of the cave We are asked to picture a group of people sitting inside a dark cave, their
hands and feet are bound in such a way that they can only look at the back wall of the cave.
Behind the chained prisoners a fire is burning, and between them and this fire a path runs along
which men carry figures, the shadows of these figures are projected onto the back wall of the
cave. The prisoners experience is based solely on the shadows, which form their world. They have
been sitting in this position since they were born so they believe that all they can see is all that
there is. Within this illustration one of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the same way when the minds eye perceives objects, which are illuminated by truth and reality,
it can understand and know them, but when all it sees is the world of change and decay it will
only be able to form opinions. In the simile the released prisoner then returns to the cave, there he
was no interest in the world as he once believed it to be, the other prisoners think his journey to
the outside world had ruined his eyes, they would not wish this for themselves. He is ridiculed for
leaving in the first place.
The simile deals with all the aspects of Plato s philosophical beliefs, one belief held by Plato is
that the philosophers are the only members of society fit to rule, because they are the highest
educated. They are able to use the Form of the Good for perception and are better qualified than
the rest of the people in the state. In the Simile of the cave these philosophers represent the freed
prisoner accessing the form of good, the visibility of the sun. Because of the philosopher s ability to
access the intelligible realm they should lead the state through politics, combining it with philosophy
. They have also seen the truth; therefore their judgement is not clouded by things that are not
knowledge in the physical realm. Plato s idea is that knowledge is that of truth. Those who do not
have knowledge are not fit to rule a state, as they do not know about things that

What Is The Theme Of Games At Twilight By Anita Deswi
Games at twilight is a short story written by Anita Desai. The story is about a young boy called
Ravi who plays hide and seek with his brothers and sisters in a very hot summer day. He wants to
win the game so that he can have all the glory of beating his relatives. He hides in a very dark
shed and he waits for the right moment to get out, touch the den and eventually win the game. I
believe that the last part of the story is the most important because the writer presents the innocence
of a child and how he feels when he understands that he is not the centre of attention. Ravi was sure
that he won and was the champion, the one and only winner of the game since he was not found by
Raghu. Desai shows Ravi s excitement and satisfaction about... Show more content on

Desai conveys Ravi s feelings by the use of irony in the phrase He would not follow them, he
would not be included in this funeral game. He had wanted victory and triumph not a funeral.
This technique provides a twist in the plot of the story because Ravi has won the game, but in
reality, he has lost since he was forgotten. In my opinion, this particular line is very important in
the story because it shows the contrast between what Ravi really wanted and what he got at the
end. He wished to be the winner and have all the victory but instead he is completely forgotten
and the children have moved to other activities and games. The pause used after the two words
victory and triumph makes the reader think of the kid s bad luck since not only he did not win
and triumphed, he found himself attending a funeral game . Looking closely to the metaphoric
word funeral we can say that it reflects the death of his innocence. This occurs when he actually
understands that not always everyone will be around you, even your relatives. This phrase shows
an unexpected ending for Ravi and the reader which creates an anti climax ending. To sum up, the
reader feels sorry because the child didn t manage to win after all those plans and

Summary of The Lesson by Toni Cade Bambara Essay examples
The Lesson by Toni Cade Bambara The Lesson, by Toni Cade Bambara, portrays a group of
children living in the slums of New York City around 1972. They seem to be content living in
poverty in some very unsanitary conditions. One character, Miss Moore, the children s self
appointed mentor, takes it upon herself to further their education during the summer months. She
feels this is her civic duty because she is educated. She used F.A.O. Schwarz, a very expensive
toystore, to teach them a lesson and inspire them to strive for success and attempt to better
themselves and their situations. At the beginning of the story, the author gives us the feeling that a

they arrive at their destination, the author gives up another clue toward the extent of the childen

One lady in a fur coat hot as it is. White folks crazy. (Bambara 471) At the store, it is not long
before the children begin seeing things that interest them. The first of these is a microscope that
costs $300. Miss Moore comments on the educational value of microscopes but the children

stupid. I do so, he say punchin Rosie Giraffe. It s a microscope. Whatcha gonna do with a

object is very expensive, it s purpose is very trivial. This here costs $480 dollars, say Rosie Giraffe.

Farm Near Duivendrecht, in the Evening -Analysis Essay
Farm Near Duivendrecht, in the Evening Analysis... Different people think, live, view, and

Depending on how you decide to think about it; it could very well have a suspenseful, and
possibly horrific aspect to it. Made possible by the depiction of the location, its surroundings,
colors, texture, brightness, and shading of the farmhouse in the painting, etc. With that being
said; one should have a pretty good idea on what this farmhouse, and its surroundings look like
by now. The next question we usually ask ourselves is why? why the color, why the worn out
look of the farmhouse, why the surroundings, in general why is the painting depicted like this?
That brings up the need to analyze the work of art at hand. When focusing on this painting, you
can see a few birds soaring over the farmhouse. They re quite small so there s some difficulty
telling if they re flying towards or away from the farmhouse. It is still very probable that they flew
over it at some point in time though. The lines in the painting are mostly depicted in the trees, and
outer walls of the farmhouse. Standing firm the trees look, and or represent strength and
dominance. It makes you wonder if there s still hope for the dead looking environment surrounding
the farmhouse. When first observing this painting; the thoughts were generally negative such as;
sad, abandoned, lonely, and depressing, etc. The painting is indeed centered, and the focal point is
obviously the farmhouse.

Considering that the average cost to own a car in the United States is over $9000 per year, or
$750 per month, not including the price of parking permits on and around college campuses, a

$8300 per year, on transportation costs and a student using semester passes plus three monthly
passes during semester breaks would save just under $8500 per year. While public transportation
is not perfect and often does not allow for long range transportation, the massive amount of money
saved could be the difference between being able to get through college debt free and needing to

Theories Of Attachment
Attachment is defined as an emotional bond that is formed between a child and an individual that
is developed throughout the child s development. As a human, it is common for us to form
emotional bonds with people we are close with especially to our parents. Most of the studies
conducted on the attachment theory mainly focuses on the attachment between infants and their
parents, although attachments between adults can also occur. Attachment behaviour is not only
observed in humans but also in animals, which is also referred to as imprinting by biologists. This
essay will examine the attachment theory, explore Ainsworth strange situation experiments and
discuss how infant attachment styles affect later development. Early studies on attachment were
conducted on animals and one of the earliest ones was carried out by Konrad Lorenz. His studies
eventually led to the discovery of imprinting, which is defined as the behaviour that takes place

Learning theory of attachment proposes that infants form attachments based on the provision of
food. In other words, an infant will form attachments to whoever who feeds it. This theory also
involves the processes of classical and operant conditioning because infants form attachments by
learning that some people provide comforts and responses. The more widely accepted evolutionary
theory of attachment states that humans and biologically set to form attachments with others to
ensure survival. The theory also claims that it is care and responsiveness which forms attachment
instead of food. To explain, the greater the response towards an infant s signal, such as crying,
smiling and clinging, the more likely it is to form an attachment with the infant. With complex

Pricing: It is evident from all of the studies reviewed that integration of physicians into hospital

showed that integration results in higher expenditures which are contrary to what is touted as a
benefit of integration, i.e. more efficient care and a reduction of unnecessary or duplicative testing.
Quality Patient Satisfaction: The literature also demonstrates that vertical integration does not lead
to improvements in the quality of care or patient satisfaction. In fact, the results of the studies show

1.The mammalian OR is part of the GPCR superfamily, while the topological distinct family of

which involves a G protein and AC3, is activated. This will produce a second messenger, cyclic

The Invasion of Canada
In 1775 the newly form Conteintal Army during the American Revolutionary Warbegan a military
strategic plan to gain military control of the British Province of Quebec (known as modern day
Canada). The objective of the campaign was to convince the French Canadians and local Indian
tribes to commit and join the American Colonies against the British.
Setting the Stage
In 1775, the battle of Lexington and Concord began the American Revolutionary War. The
colonists were at a standstill, with the British Army at the siege of Boston. During the month of
May 1775, under light defenses and heavy weapons along the British Fort Ticonderoga, General
Benedict Arnold and Major General Ethan Allen commanded a force of colonial militia to
captured Fort Ticonderoga. Fort Ticonderoga was located on Lake Champlain in northeast New
York; it was a vital access point to Canada and the Hudson River Valley.... Show more content on

A Report on Bank Regulation in the USA
Bank Regulation in the USA: Similar to other countries across the globe, banks are important
aspects of the financial system and sector in the United States. This is largely because they
contribute to the growth and development of the country s economy as they contribute to the
payment mechanism and credit system throughout the nation. As a result of the contribution they
make to the economic growth and development of the United States, banks are among the most
regulated firms in the country. Given that the United States began as a confederation of constituent
states, the regulation of banks in the country developed in a unique manner. This has led to the
dual regulatory system for banks in states and federal government charters. The regulatory system
has enabled banks to continue with their unique and central role in America s financial markets by
carrying out deposit taking, lending, and other activities. The importance of banks in the U.S.
financial system has resulted in the fact that regulation and supervision by the government extends
to many banking aspects. While the current banking laws and supervision has been developed by
several stakeholders, the regulatory system has mainly responsible to various needs and serves as
a critical part in setting up the standards and guidelines with which banking services are provided
(Spong, 2000). There are various reasons that are regarded as the importance of the bankregulation
in the United States. Some of these

Dinh Le And The Vietnam War
Many contemporary American artists address an extensive variety of themes significant to their
adopted country while some focus on issues relevant to their country of origin like the subject of
war . War has been considered as a major theme, and it s reality is a great inspiration in writing and
has created endless creativity for artists. In particular, the Vietnamese American artist Dinh Q. LГЄ
often chooses the subject of the Vietnamwar to express his thoughts, concerns, and the message of
peace in his artworks. Dinh Le and his family had lived through the Vietnam war (1975) and then
he immigrated to Los Angeles at age 10 in order to avoid the fight between Vietnamese troops
and Cambodian Khmer Rouge, and then started pursuing art in the U.S. Although he was far
away from his country, his art seemed like he could not escape from Vietnam s long lasting
conflict. Therefore, he decided to study photography, then got a Master s degree at the School of
Visual Arts(New York), but he still sometimes had a feeling of living in exile in a sense of
ambiguousness. He calmed himself down by participating in some meetings with American
veterans; however, he was not satisfied with the single voice from one side which was based on
their memories from the Vietnam war, and not hearing any voices from the Vietnam side of the
conflict. As a result, he decided to research the history of the war to get a deeper understanding of
his country s struggles. And the Vietnam( American) war

Tanning Case Study
In the article, Many Colleges Have Tanning Salons on or Near Campus; Some Accept Campus
Cash, Health Magazine is arguing that even though tanning has been proven to increase the
chances of cancer, colleges are promoting tanning. The tanning services being offered are often
found on or near college campus s. While this may passively reinforce tanning and harmful nature,
as a salon business owner I would put aside the unethical choices, and make decisions in what is
best for marketing choices. As I see it promoting this near campus tanning salon movement and
using demographic techniques can affect the salon marketing industry in both good and bad ways.
Even though I may not agree with teenage tanning, I feel that by using this marketing tactic the
sales forecast will plummet. By providing campus cash services, the business owner will be able
to increase the chances of the students entering the salon. Many college students can not afford to
pay for extra tanning costs, however if they are able to use campus cash they will more likely to
use tanning facilities. This movement promotes marketers and business owners into wanting to

The Quality Of Wisdom In Herman Hesse s Sidddhartha
Wisdom is the quality of having experience, knowledge, and good judgement. Knowledge is facts,
information, and skills acquired by a person through experience or education. You may gain
knowledge through education but you can t be taught wisdom. Sometimes that s a hard learned
lesson. In Siddhartha, Herman Hesse uses the theme wisdom cannot be learned nor gained through
teachings but can only be achieved through experience. Which is very evident through seeing
Siddhartha going through his journey of life to reach full enlightenment/wisdom on his own.
Siddhartha early on in his rich Brahmin life realizes that the teachings he s learning from the
Brahmins is inadequate to reach enlightenment. Siddhartha is not content with having knowledge he
knows that there is more to learn and receive. The Brahmins are not fulfilling his mind. He had
begun to sense that his venerable father and his other teachers, that the wise Brahmins had already
imparted to him the bulk and the best of their knowledge...his mind was not contented (5). This
shows that he realizes there is more and he decides to leave to find that more . Siddhartha finds the
Samanas and becomes apart of them. He gains knowledge but questions their way to nirvana
/enlightenment. During the samana period he is discontent with what he has already learned
thinking that he has been taught all there is to learn from the Samanas. I am willing to listen to
these teachings though in my heart I believe that we ve already tasted the best fruit of these
teachings (21). Siddhartha knows there is more he can be taught and thinks he can not do that with
the Samanas. Siddhartha believes the teachings of wisdom and knowledge but is discontent with
learning it and tries to find other paths to enlightenment.
After the Samanas, Siddhartha crosses the river to find someone that has reached the highest level
of wisdom and enlightenment. He is still discontent but acknowledges that he can reach that level if
he keeps searching. After listening to a teaching from the Buddha(who has reached enlightenment)
Siddhartha wants to ask him how he reached enlightenment. The Buddha says what Siddhartha has
been thinking the whole time. It came to you from your own seeking path,

Analysis Of Snow White And The Seven Dwarfs
One quote people worldwide probably heard of is Magic Mirror on the wall, who is the fairest
one of all . In the 1930s, cinema was not one of the most viewed things, many people were being
somewhat affected by World War II. During an extremely catastrophic time, Walt Disney decided to
create Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs , a movie filled with imagination that formed an
incredible legacy. This movie was one of the earliest animated films at the time, and after a
tremendous critical success, can still be seen among our youth. It is a classic Oscar nominated film
that should be watched by children, teenagers and young adults. The fascinating plot captured the
audience since the beginning. An evil queen, who aspired to be the most beautiful woman in her
kingdom, had a magic mirror to which she asked if there was someone more beautiful than her.
When the mirror responded that the young Princess Snow White was infinitely more beautiful, the
queen was enraged, and ordered a hunter to take the girl to the forest and kill her. The hunter,
taking pity on Snow White, left her and gave her instructions to run as fast as she could. As the
wicked queen demanded that the girl s heart be brought to him, to show that he indeed fulfilled the
order, the hunter killed a deer and teared out the heart, and presented it to the queen as if it were
Snow White s.
Meanwhile, Snow White takes refuge in a small house, property of seven charming dwarfs that
welcome her affectionately. But the queen

Paideia as Bildung in Germany in the Age of Enlightenment
ABSTRACT: There have been many interpretations of Bildung in the history of German
philosophy, from the Medieval mystics to the secularization of the Enlightenment. Wilhelm von
Humboldt s work at the end of the 18th century is a good example. He placed the idea of Bildung
at the center of his work because it was rooted in a dynamic, transforming idea of the natural and
human worlds while also being oriented toward a model of balance and perfection. Von Humboldt s
interpretation of modernity is characterized by a strong emphasis on change as well as the need to
find criteria for guiding such a transformation that has no intrinsic or predetermined end. Love of

In this way, to render the semantic extent of the term, the meanings of forma and formatio and
imago and imitatio are involved as well; and the following two concepts are implied: firstly the
concept of production according to an order that gives rise to a form (to something subsident on
the basis of mutually congruent rules) and secondly the conformation of the said act to an image
given as assumption, as a model endowed with an absolute value which this image must resemble
or aim for.
The original meaning of bilden, as the Deutsches Wörterbuch by Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm
states, is that of a plastic activity on the sensory level and means giving shape, producing a
certain object abiding to the rules which preside over the Art. In this case bilden is a synonym for
gestalten and formieren. But the relationship of reproduction, and therefore of resemblance with
respect to an image must be added to this , and this addition to an Urbild pushes bilden well
beyond the pure and simple formation of an object and gives rise to the complex relationship
between model and copy, original and reproduction which implies a very different approach to the
question.

Healthcare facilities are very active institutions. Each part must be functioning correctly, from

It is important that their knowledge of these events is raised so that in the unfortunate event of their
falling victim to such an occurrence, they know exactly what type of action to take. The increased
awareness of patients leads to two problems that healthcare organizations must face. The first
problem: the patients trust and engagement of these never events would never have came about if it
were not for the negative publicity that comes from such an event happening. If a never event either
happens to a patient or in a hospital that the patient goes to, then that patient would have less trust
towards the healthcare facility overall. The one thing that healthcare organizations need is their
patients trust. The second problem: insurers are beginning to hold healthcare facilities
financially responsible for never events (Ozan Rafferty). As a result, physicians and hospitals
have to pay for the care they provided, in addition to the errors that they encountered. If the
insurers do this, it would bring the downfall of the entire hospital because there would be so
much expenses that the healthcare facilities have to pay that it may not be able to pay for most of
the debts that they have in the facilities. Motivating hospitals to ensure proper policy is followed
can lead to a reduction on spending every year due to medical errors. Holding healthcare facilities

The Journal Of Antonio Pigafetta
Introduction The more you know about the past, the better prepared you are for the future. This is
a quote by Theodore Roosevelt that speaks about a certain truth about History, the past. People tend
to think that history is of no importance, but what they don t know is that the past plays a certain
role in shaping the present and the future. When I was assigned to write a paper about the
Philippine s history during the Spanish colonization, I was determined to find a topic that greatly
influenced and affected the history of the world. A suggestion was given to me that I should write
about the significant journal entries of Antonio Pigafetta about Magellan s journey. I found this

The Effects Of Compulsive Shopping
For some, shopping is nothing more than a regular day to day activity. For others, however,
shopping is more akin to a hobby; in extreme circumstances in can lead to addiction.
Like most addictions, Compulsive Shopping (CS), also known as Oniomania, can be incredibly
destructive causing financial strain, family and social neglect, and depression. Although the phrase
Shop till you drop is a common turn of phrase amongst consumers, to others its meaning is literal.
Oniomania was first explored more than a century ago. However, this addiction has only been
acknowledged and closely monitored over the last decade (Quinn, 2014). Online shopping, perhaps
the most addictive method of shopping, is increasing at an alarming rate. Due to the fact that
individuals are not physically exchanging money, the transaction is less likely to register with the
consumer (Quinn, 2014).
Shopping addiction is identified as having credit and store cards that have reached their limit. One
of the attractions to addicts is the instant gratification that comes from making purchases; research
suggests this actually makes them feel worse (Engs, 1999 2011). The behavior characteristics of
shopping addiction are similar to those of Alcoholism, Substance

Graffiti Is Not Art Essay
Art. Art is the expression or application of human creative skill and imagination, typically in a
visual form such as painting or sculpture, producing works to be appreciated primarily for their
beauty or emotional power. (google). That s kind of a lot. Basically, art is anything created as a
product of human creativity and imagination to portray a message, trigger an emotion, or just,
look good. That being said, what isn t art? Anything, from the mona lisa to the projects sitting
around this room were made by human imagination and creativity to portray a message or just be
beautiful. What if you were told, that all of the hard work that was put into those projects and
paintings, was illegal? Not accepted by some people as art, and frowned upon.
Graffiti is a controversial topic in some areas that would say that graffiti can t be considered art.
But how can t it be considered art? Does the location or the message of the art make it any less
art? How much do people even know about graffiti, which is judged upon so hard in today s era?
Graffiti has been used many times in history to preserve and show political and religious ideas
of the past. Street artists are preserving the history that is deemed illegal at this time. Graffiti
itself is history, and it tells stories as well as preserving cities and adding a creative aspect to
everyday life. The ...first forms of scripture and storytelling ... were through drawings on walls.
Stories passed through generations... were preserved on rocks or walls. (Lloyd, Alexis). Now
street artists are simply doing the same, whether it s murals, tags, or people just messing around;
They are preserving the unique cultures that we have today, or trying to make a name for
themselves through art, or portray a political message. 85% of graffiti is just tags. (Akbar, Airfa).
People s names or words made to look interesting. People trying to preserve their name through
art. And this is considered a crime. Splashing your political views on a building through a mural to
some people is offensive and the fact that this is illegal is a violation of the 1st amendment. Making
graffiti or street art illegal is limiting an expression of people s ideas and religion.

Identity in the Works of Eavan Boland and Seamus Heaney
Many times poetry is reflective of the author s past as well as their personal struggles. One
struggle that poets write about is of identity and the creation, as well as loss, of individual
identities. Using a passage from the essay Lava Cameo by Eavan Boland, I will show how two
poets use their craft to describe their struggle with identity. Eavan Boland and Seamus Heaney both
write poems which express an internal struggle with roles of identity and how they recreate their
roles to fit their needs. Through retrospection and reflection, both poets come to realize that the
roles they led as well as those they reinvented have created their own personal identities. Boland, in

and those of the fictitious worlds created in poetry. Men created the traditions and customs
associated with poetry. These traditions have objectified women and placed them as the primary
focus of much of poetry, often times in a subordinate manner. Boland states that in poetry women

when trying to master her craft between her role as a woman and the role of women observed in
traditional poetry.
Boland would practice her craft and write line after line expressing her mind as a human being. In
the end however, she found it inescapable that her life as a woman would become the ultimate
object of the poetry. She found that as much as she tried to express her perceptions in her poetry
she could not find an identity independent of a man s identity. Poetry as a craft was molded in the
perceptions of men. Women lacked an identity, without which the female perceptions are

Walden Location Essay
In Thoreau s novel, Walden, the reader is introduced to Thoreau s world and how it is greatly
impacted by location. Thoreau begins his project by moving away from civilization and searching
for a place to live. He finds his temporary home at Walden Pond, where he starts with few resources
and little outside inputs. Thoreau even has to borrow the axe that he uses to cut down trees to make
his home for the next two years. Thoreau asserts that his experiment, moving to WaldenPond, is not
permanent. Walden Pondis, however, the foundation precept of how location impacts one s way of
life. The place one live shapes the way one live and how one interact with the world around oneself.

nature may seem strange, doing so is what prevents Thoreau from becoming lonely. Thoreau

a bean leaf, or sorrel, or a horse fly, or a bumble bee (pg #). Thoreau is content with the place he

Thoreau makes use of the land and nature around him at Walden Pond. He plants two and a half

The rain that comes and goes helps his crops grow. Thoreau relies on the place he lives to sustain

What Is the Current Laws Relating to the Implication of...
The current Victorian laws on the implication of the duty of good faith in commercial contracts
run in parallel with Commonwealth laws in this area. In both jurisdictions the law in respect to
both the scope and nature of the duty of good faith is relatively unsettled. Judicial and
jurisdictional discrepancies surrounding rulings on the duty of good faith is evident. This is the
case even though the High Court of Australia has acknowledged the existence and potential scope
of the duty of good faith as important issues It is yet to expressly consider the matter in detail . As
such, debate in various Australian authorities concerning the existence and content of the

varying judgments on the scope, interpretation and application of the implied duty of good faith in
a commercial context. Victoria has diverged most notably from the NSW interpretation whereby
Victoria generally implies the duty of good faith in fact rather than in law . Currently, there is
much debate over what constitutes good faith . However, both jurisdictions have tended to agree
on the conflated nature of the concepts of the implied terms of good faith and reasonableness and
the obligation requiring parties to not act capriciously . The courts also tend to share a reluctance
to conclude that commercial contracts are of the class which requires the universal implication of
the duty of good faith . However,

The Theme Of Reputation In Beowulf

themes is reputation. Reputation is the acknowledgment by other people of some characteristic.
Although having a good reputation is very important to many people nowadays. It is also important

in the poem when Beowulf and his twelve warriors land on the Danish shores. As they are getting
down from the ship, a Danish watcher sees them and goes up to them to see who they are. The
lieutenant asks Beowulf who he is, and why he is coming to his coast. Beowulf replies by saying,
We... follow Higlac, my father was a famous soldier...men all over the earth...remember him. (156
163) Then, the lieutenant figures out that Beowulf has a good reputation. Therefore, he allows
Beowulf and his men to enter the Danish shores, and he leads them to Hrothgar. This incident
shows the reader that reputation is very important, and if a character has a bad reputation, he would
not be welcomed into other kingdoms. Moreover, Beowulf meets Hrothgar, they start talking.
Beowulf starts listing his achievements and the things he had done. I drove five great giants into
chains / I swam... hunting monsters out of the ocean. (232 236)

Fatima Mernissi s Dreams Of Trespass
The story of Fatima Mernissi is truly an enchanting and empowering one. In the book Dreams of
Trespass, we are given a glimpse of the young girl s adventurous life in a traditional Moroccan
harem during the 1940 s and early 1950 s. Through her journey in the harem, we see how life in
the harem can be enchanting and confined at the same time. In this book, Fatima elaborates life in
a traditional Moroccan harem, what a harem really means, the many women in her life that
continuously challenge the norms of her culture and society, and how that has inspired her to
dream big and work towards achieving freedom outside of the frontiers. In the beginning of the
book, Fatima begins to describe life at the Mernissi household. Fatima lived in a Moroccan... Show

That is something I too asked myself multiple times while reading the book. That is something
that Fatima herself questioned many times while she was growing up. Something I immediately
began to adore about Fatima while reading her tales was her unstoppable curiosity and need to
ask questions. She asks many questions to feel more knowledgeable and to understand her
surroundings. However, as we learn about the many things forbidden inside the harem, Fatima
tells us that asking too many questions is one of them. That is only because asking a question
such as what is a harem? is not really a question that the adults will volunteer to answer (Mernissi,
39). Like many children do, Fatima and her cousins loved to break rules. Fatima, Samir, and their
other cousin, Malika used to occasionally climb onto the forbidden terrace. According to Fatima,
Samir and Malika s main purpose to climb onto the highest terrace was to push their investigation
of harems further. They would sit there and ponder on the unanswered questions by the adults and
find out the truth behind these questions. They would ask each other rather simple questions: Is a
harem a house in which a man lives with many wives? Do all married men have harems? Can you
have more than one master in a harem? (Mernissi, 150) As simple as these questions sound, they
figured that the answers to these questions were more complicated than they thought. They used
their own harem and other harems they knew up to answers these questions but eventually never
found the true answer. While many of the adults gave different answers to what a harem, it was
truly Lalla Yasmina, Fatima s maternal grandmother who gave her true closer on the definition of
a harem. She explained to Fatima, The word harem was a slight variation to the word haram, the
forbidden, the proscribed. It was the opposite of halal, the permissible. Harem was the place where

Legalizing Recreational Drugs
In 1826, a group of Americans sought out to ban all alcoholic beverages; they were successful and
had a law made under the 18th amendment. However under the 21st amendment it was repealed.
So, the question comes up, should all recreational drugs be banned today? I feel that recreational
drugs today (not for medical use) should not be banned.
I envision a world where drugs and even alcohol are legal. In my eyes the world does not appear
different. I feel that even now when drugs (also again including alcohol) are banned, so many
people do them illegally that it would not be that big of a difference if they are legalized.
Consequently, if they are legalized drug and alcohol abuse might go up and due to that reason there

Militarism Vs. Trump
Introduction
Following a decisive victory against Ted Cruz in the Indiana primaries, reality TV star and real

In his last white house correspondence dinner, Obama jokingly criticized the media for putting

Is The Dichotomy In Relation To The Baptism In The Holy...
Introduction This paper will compare and evaluate the views of John MacArthur and Keith
Warrington, in relation to the baptism in the Holy Spirit. Particularly, focusing on their views as
to whether the baptism in the Holy Spirit takes place as a consequence of conversion or
subsequently, as a unique experience. Each author s views will be compared and evaluated using
other academic sources, with special reference to Biblical evidence. Finally, a clear conclusion from
the evaluation process will establish which argument is better founded Biblically.
The Initial Argument John MacArthur, a Cessationist, claims that at the moment of salvation all
believers are, baptised, indwelt and sealed with the Holy Spirit. Furthermore, MacArthur argues ...

The first part is found in John 20:22 and the second part is found in Acts 2:1 4. Warrington,
claims that a partial filling of the Holy Spirit was given in John 20:22, with a fuller filling given in
Acts 2:1 4. Furthermore, the first filling resulted in the authority to forgive and to withhold the
forgiveness of sins, whilst the second filling resulted in a more permanent indwelling of the Holy
Spirit (John 20:23, Acts 2:4).
However, MacArthur counters this claim by stating that in John 20:22, the Holy Spirit was not
given, but only promised. Evidence for this counterclaim is provided in John 20:26, whereby
eight days after this, pledge to be filled with the Holy Spirit, the disciples are found to be locked
inside through fear of the Jews. Therefore, the disciples must have lacked the Holy Spirit s
manifest power and presence, proving that the Holy Spirit had not yet been given; a view supported
by KoМ€stenberger.
In order to evaluate Warrington s claim and to bring a conclusion to this argument it is essential to

general, they relate to the supply side theory as to why they exist. The supply side theory
attributes the existence of nonprofit organizations to the vision and initiative of individuals who
have created and built them (Worth, pg. 50). Additionally, the organization also exists as a
common good, one that cannot be consumed alone by an individual nor are they an interest or
benefit to all people (Worth, pg. 52). This is true as OAT provides community theatre in a rural

Rust Inhibitors In The Connecticut
Did you realize that living in Connecticut could cause you to come to a violent end? It s true, and
for a reason you may never expect. One would think road salt would help them during the winter to
reduce slippery conditions, but it also has a very horrid opposite effect.
The Connecticut D.O.T. needs to start putting rust inhibitors back into the road salt. The state uses
magnesium chloride to de ice the roads, which is especially corrosive. Rust inhibitors work by
reducing corrosion by consuming some of the oxygen that that is necessary to cause rust. Some
officials claim that if it gets into streams, it could lower oxygen levels, killing some fish or other
aquatic animal.
The rust inhibitors were taken out of road salt in CT in 2007 when wastewater treatment workers
reported low oxygen levels outside the plant. Nobody knows that rust inhibitors had anything to do
with it. State officials are too quick, in my opinion, to jump to conclusions. The cars in this state,
one of them possibly owned by you, will most likely experience rust in its near future, if it has not
already. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Characteristics Of Benedict Arnold
Are historical figures defined by what great things they did or petrifying things? Benedict
Arnold had a difficult life growing up. He dropped out of school and started working with his
cousins, but he would often leave to and join the army. He went off on a bad route when his
parents died because he went from business deals to sort of smuggling; however, when he heard
of lexington and concord he rushed over and tried to get in on the action. He was then bullied
and such by his fellow generals. What events can define this person as a hero or villain? It is
believed that Benedict Arnold was a great general in the revolutionary war. He fought beside
George Washington in the continental army. When he was a general for the continental army he
had a couple of successful raids and took over british forts. He was also promoted to colonel by
Benjamin church. He was doing great during his time with the continental army and his comrades
trusted him, and he was praised for his successful attacks. Even though, a couple of his companions
did bully and mess with him, they still found him useful when it came to taking over british forts
and achieving bountiful attacks towards the british. He even got hurt during an attack on the
british. George Washington sent Arnold to attack Quebec where he hurt his knee. As a result, his
attack in Quebec failed miserably. This really shows that Benedict arnold was trying his best to be
great man and do what was right. After Arnold had done so many

Stephen Crane Essay
amp;#9;Stephen Crane was one of the United States foremost naturalists in the late 1800 s (
amp;quot;Stephen amp;quot; n.p.). He depicted the human mind in a way that few others have
been capable of doing while examining his own beliefs. Crane was so dedicated to his beliefs that
one should write about only what they personally experience that he lived in a self imposed
poverty for part of his life to spur on his writings (Colvert, 12:108). Crane s contribution to
American Literatureis larger than any one of his books or poems. All parts of Crane s life greatly

writing career, or later years ( amp;quot;Stephen amp;quot; n.p.).... Show more content on

After leaving Lafayette, he moved on to attend Syracuse University, where he also played
baseball, and wrote for his brother s news service (Colvert 12:102). It is said that Crane wrote the
preliminary sketch of his novella, Maggie, while at Syracuse. He eventually decided to quit school
and become a full time reporter for the New York Tribune ( amp;quot;Stephen amp;quot; n.p.).
amp;#9;Crane began his writing career in poverty, hoping that it would inspire him to write.
Along with his beliefs in Darwinism, he drew much if his influences from his religious beliefs
(Colvert 12:108). Famous writers such as Hamlin Garland, William Howells, Rudyard Kipling,
and Tolstoy also influenced him (12:101). The first of his stories was Maggie, which was very
unpopular ( amp;quot;Stephen amp;quot; n.p.). His second novel, The Red Badge of Courage,
earned Crane international fame. The Red Badge of Courage showed Crane s views of life as
warfare in a book that is basically plotless. It is about a young soldier, Henry Fleming, and the
emotions that he experiences during wartime ( amp;quot;Stephen amp;quot; n.p.). Crane s most
famous work of poetry was Black Riders, which appears to have little or no outside influences
(Quartermain 54:106). Black Riders was also an attempt by Crane to get rid of his thought that God
was vengeful and wrathful (Colvert 12:101).

England Throughout History
England. What is the first word you think of when you hear, England? You may think of their
history and its effect. Another thought that could be is London. London is the capital and heart of
England that has its own history. Throughout history England has contributed so much, good and
bad. With that contribution England is one of the well most known country that is known for poise,
history, and tradition.
English history began in 500,000 BC with a boxgrove man from West Sussex. He was the first
human known in England. In 55 BC Julius Ceasar invaded England for Rome. After Cesar took
control Roman control lasted for 400 years. From 449 550 Jutes, Angles, and Saxons arrived in
England and took control. In the beginning of the ninth century the Vikings came and invaded
England. The Vikings controlled North and East England. In 897 Alfred the great defeated the
vikings living in England. Another important date in England s history is 1067 when the Tower of
London began being structured. (England. China: CTSP, 2010. Print) In 1154 Henry II becomes
the king. The next king, John became king in 1215 and signed the magna carta. 1348 49 was a
hard time for England because the black death kills one third of the population. A long time after
the black death was over in 1476 William Caxton set up England s first printing service. In 1485
Henry VII is crowned the King of England. Also during 1485 the Act of Union unified the England,

through his adolescence. Jack s boyhood was plagued with a divorce, moving, hostile
environments, and unknown identity. To create a foundation, and image for himself Jack began
to create a new life, in his mind. This concept was shown throughout the whole memoir. For
example, in this quotation, And on the boy who lived in their letters, the splendid phantom who
carried all my hopes, it seemed to me I saw, at last , my own face. (214). Imagination was Jack
main source of escape from what he truly was. Jack pictured himself as one of the elite, a football

In our culture today we are taught to be yourself, and never lie. Which is why I surprised and
intrigued by this quote, and everything that related to it. I wanted to understand Jack s life,
because I have never experienced anything close to his life. Thus bringing me to how this quote
related to the meaning as a memoir as a whole. Imagination brought Jack into a wonderful life,
yet it was fake. This allowing him to think more highly of himself to get past Dwight s and other
people s outlooks on him. However, Jack s life never turley became better. He went to the Hill
school but got expelled, and Dwight s anger never left Jack, and clouded the little bit of happiness
that Jack had gained in Chinook. All of this shows that imagination never truly makes things better,
but provides an allusion. Through Jack it was learned that only working hard, and keeping out of
trouble brings honest good fortune. Which was expressed throughout the memoir to allow the
readers to see the good and bad that came from Jack s life. Overall, the quotation helped me
understand Jack s use of imagination, and even the true meaning of the memoir as a

Pursuing A Parson s Fashion Career
In high school it s really hard to concentrate and get the motivation to think about your future, and

college you re attending, what degree you want, and how long you are planning to attend are key

  • 2. Informative Speech About Bacteria It was fall 1972 when Professor clark had discovered the bacteria. Professor Clark thought he ruled the world for what he had discovered but he was soon going to learn what dark secrets the government have been hiding from their fellow citizens. Okay class have a seat please, today we are going to be going over something fascinating. Today we will be going over bacteria! If I Must remind you guy s, a man from the government will be coming in to see what I Have discovered so please show him respect and show me attention. (Knocking on the door) Oh! Gracie would you get that please. Class I Would like to introduce you to our guest, Mr. Miller. Okay shall we get started! First I Would like to go over what I Have discovered is the most remarkable thing anyone has possibly came across and i m honored to be presenting this to you. What I Have found is something called bacteria, not the good kind but the kind used in wars and deadly attacks. Sadly we can t see it with the human eye but thanks to technology we have microscopes, so please line up and one at a time look through the tube and observe the bacteria. Now what you are looking at is one of the most deadly bacteria currently known to man (Burkholderia cepacia) if this was to leave the container and accidentally it could sink in your skin and get in your blood vessels spreading throughout your body then once it reaches the heart instant death will occur. Mr.miller would you like to take a look? Why yes I Would thank you ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Analysis Of Fun Home By Alison Bechdel Analytical Essay on Fun Home By: Alison Bechdel Even though a lot of thing events that happened to Bechdel was sad, dark, or scary she manages to use a very witty tone throughout the story reflecting on her personality. She believes dark events are not central to one s life. She uses this tone as oppose to an angry tone because she never realized her family was any different until she was compared it to others. This strongly classifies Bechdel in the optimistic category of personalities. The tone of this novel can strike many people as hard to determine or understand. One of the best things about this novel is the consistency that Bechdel creates from her earliest childhood memories all the way until the ending of the book. Tone is known to illustrate the underlying feelings of the author. What is also very striking is Bechdel s lack of emotion when any surprising event happens to her. What most tend to remember is when Mr. Bechdel s death is announced to Bechdel and how she responds to the news. Speaking normally, or what most would refer to as normal is to have some kind of emotional breakthrough when finding out their loved one has passed in a tragic accident. Is he dead? (Bechdel 81). In these three words Bechdel demonstrates her inability to fit into the mere normal category of reactions and blows the audience away. Bechdel explains how she cried for about two minutes to her girlfriend at the time and that was the most of mourning she did at all. Using the witty ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Domino Effect Essay Vietnam constantly battled for independence after it became a colony of France in the late 19th century. After declaring their independence from the French at the end of World War II, Vietnam became divided and started a civil war between the communist North and the democratic South. Across the ocean, the United Statesfeared that Communism rising in the Soviet Union and China would threaten the independence of their country; to prevent this from occurring, the United States supported the South in the Vietnamese civil war. The attempt of the United States to protect their freedom would prove to harm the Vietnamese in countless ways. President Dwight Eisenhower s Domino Effect focused on removing the threat of communism in Europe and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If Vietnam fell to Communism, then the theory assumed that Cambodia and Laos would soon become Communist. Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia and the Philippines would follow shortly after. Once these countries fell to Communism, it would only be a short time before the democracy of the United States would be at risk. • 5. National Incident Management System NIMS The National Incident Management System (NIMS) was put into place after 9/11 and is the standard for all first responders when dealing with large scale events (NIMS, 2014). The Incident Command System (ICS) is the structure for the NIMS and establishes separate but unified sections and divisions to include operations, a commander, logistics, plans and finance (NIMS, 2014)). The ICS can grow or shrink depending on the size and scale of the event. The term Span of Control implies that within the ICS, any individual with a supervisory position should oversee 3 to 7 subordinates. The span of control is key to effective and efficient incident management(ICS Resource Center, 2008 p 3). In one of the ICS s most basic forms, it empowers the Incident Commander (IC) to manage the responding organization. It also puts forth an operations section chief to direct responders within operations and communicate the IC s plan (NIMS, 2014). Depending on where an incident occurs correlates to how well the responders are prepared, equipped and ready to deal with large scale events. In some areas with less logistical resources and funds, incidents can turn into disasters that challenge the local citizens and responders. That is exactly what happened in a coal mine in 2006 in Sago West Virginia. On January 2, 2006, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The role of the IC in this case was unique in the sense that high carbon monoxide and methane readings were detected sub surface and the usual planning cycle had to be expedited. • 6. Hypersexualized Images Mental disorders and hypersexualized images. Regarding other influences and impacts of photo manipulation on body images and beauty, Day (2014) states that the three most common mental disorders caused by photo manipulation are eating disorder, depression and low self esteem. Furthermore, she lists out several statistics and surveys that prove its negativity on human beings: 80% of women feel worse about themselves after seeing a beauty ad and people as young as thirteen begin to feel unsatisfied about their body and how they look. As shocking as it is, a study included in Day s (2014) article states that adolescent girls are more afraid of gaining weight than getting cancer, losing their parents or nuclear war. Photo manipulation also creates a hypersexualized issue: A study done in 2011 by the journal Sexuality and Culture shows that 2% of men and 61% of women are hypersexualized (Nelson, 2012, p.180). Retouched photos are continuously used as sex sales and convey the wrong definition of sexy that is almost unreachable (Nelson, 2012, p.218). A blogger from In The Frow (2015) expresses her thoughts regarding men who are under the pressure of maintaining their body. • 7. Two Eyed Seeing There are many ways one can see and understand the world. The way that the school system authorized us to see and understand the world is through a western perspective. However, there is another perspective that we should all see and understand the world as since we live on the unceded territories; we should all see the world an Indigenous perspective too. This concept of two eyed seeing is introduced by Mi kmaw Elders Albert and Murdena Marshall from Eskasoni, a First Nation in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia (Martin, D. 2012, p. 31). The concept is specifically introduced and applied to research in science. However, I believe that this concept can be applied to life in general and in the classroom environment. The concept of two eyed seeing is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They are hiding the history of assimilation of Indigenous people in residential schools. By continuing to teach with the western perspective, it is continuing to assimilate Indigenous people. In B.C. s school system, there are over 60,000 students who self identify as being of Aboriginal (First Nations, MГ©tis or Inuit) ancestry. (Province of British Columbia, 2017). Those 60,000 self identifying Aboriginal students are sitting in a school where they may be misrecognized with stereotypes and are forced to learn the western perspective while possibly learning an indigenous perspective at home. The B.C government states that Aboriginal Education seeks to: improve the success of Aboriginal students, support all students learning about Aboriginal peoples and help teachers in their efforts to bring Aboriginal knowledge into their teaching practice. When thinking about this two eyed seeing, it reminded me of the story Edwina Left Behind by SГ¶ren Wuerth. Edwina, a Native senior who was trying to pass the state s High School Graduation Qualifying Exam to receive a diploma had failed because of the cultural ignorance of standardized test. This is the reality of seeing through one eye. She did everything she could to learn the western, standardized test yet she still failed. • 8. Negative Effects Of Homework Lastly, homework results in a combination of corresponding negative physical and mental effects within students. In the survey conducted on high schoolers in California, 56% of participants admitted homework as their primary stressor, while less than 1% said homework was not a stressor (Strauss). Regarding physical symptoms, 72% of students disclosed their constant state of anxiety over school work, resulting in sleep deprivation, headaches, exhaustion, weight loss, stomach pain, and the lack of stability in their lives (Strauss). Over 80% of the students encountered a physical symptom in the timespan of a month, 44% of whom experienced three or more in that time period (Strauss). In addition to this, parents argued their children do not have enough time to complete chores, a skill that also trains a sense of responsibility within adolescents (Ponte). Furthermore, homeworklimits a child s development of social skills, as it leaves them with little time to interact with friends (Ponte). In addition to the shortage of social interactions among friends, adolescents have limited time to converse with their family members as well. For example, junior Julia Jones was assigned a group project over Winter Break, a time specifically created for a vacation from school (Ponte). As expected, both of Julia s partners were on vacation one of which being out of country (Ponte). Dr. Venkman believes that psychics are the only one who has this special clairvoyant power that no regular person has. 1b. In his article How ESP Works, Tom Harris reveals that no one are ability to prove that extra sensory perception (ESP), exist. For example, Harris uses the scenario of a man who wrote a book about a sunken ship, which had the same description as the Titanic. The book was published before the Titanic was built. He was rewarded as a psychic, however this scenario limits the scientific method because it occurs in an uncontrolled environment. In order to effectively demonstrate some good evidences, scientists need to conduct an experiment that has a closely controlled condition. In John Thomas facts sheet, he mentions that the evidences cited for ESP are usually anecdotal. He states these anecdotal claimed that scientific tests at respected research institutions have conclusively demonstrated that ESP exists. For example, as pointed out by Thomas, the SRI remote viewed experiments claimed that subjects could see places through the eyes of others. Essay about Mittell’s Television Genre Theory and Louie Originally published in Cinema Journal 40, No. 3, Spring 2001, Jason Mittell s A Cultural Approach to Television Genre Theory conceives of television genre as a cultural category rather than merely a textual component. In the decade since the original publishing of the article, television has evolved out of the multi channel era and into the post network era. In this new television landscape, genresare no longer a fixed entity1, and there is great academic potential in the in the study of television genres. Such projects might isolate a variety of starting points an industrial formation, audience practices, a textual instance, a policy decision, or a moment in social history. We may start with a textual case to motivate our study, but we must still examine how genres transcend textual boundaries and operate within audience and industry practices as well.3 Also, according to the article, we should focus on the breadth of discursive enunciations around any given instance, mapping out as many articulations of genre as possible and situating them within larger cultural contexts and relations of power.4 So, any generic discourse must begin with a full understanding of the context of a particular text in this case, Louie. Essay on Plato’s The Republic Plato s The Republic In the simile of the cave We are asked to picture a group of people sitting inside a dark cave, their hands and feet are bound in such a way that they can only look at the back wall of the cave. • 13. What Is The Theme Of Games At Twilight By Anita Deswi Games at twilight is a short story written by Anita Desai. The story is about a young boy called Ravi who plays hide and seek with his brothers and sisters in a very hot summer day. He wants to win the game so that he can have all the glory of beating his relatives. He hides in a very dark shed and he waits for the right moment to get out, touch the den and eventually win the game. I believe that the last part of the story is the most important because the writer presents the innocence of a child and how he feels when he understands that he is not the centre of attention. Ravi was sure that he won and was the champion, the one and only winner of the game since he was not found by Raghu. Desai shows Ravi s excitement and satisfaction about... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Desai conveys Ravi s feelings by the use of irony in the phrase He would not follow them, he would not be included in this funeral game. He had wanted victory and triumph not a funeral. This technique provides a twist in the plot of the story because Ravi has won the game, but in reality, he has lost since he was forgotten. In my opinion, this particular line is very important in the story because it shows the contrast between what Ravi really wanted and what he got at the end. He wished to be the winner and have all the victory but instead he is completely forgotten and the children have moved to other activities and games. The pause used after the two words victory and triumph makes the reader think of the kid s bad luck since not only he did not win and triumphed, he found himself attending a funeral game . Looking closely to the metaphoric word funeral we can say that it reflects the death of his innocence. This occurs when he actually understands that not always everyone will be around you, even your relatives. This phrase shows an unexpected ending for Ravi and the reader which creates an anti climax ending. To sum up, the reader feels sorry because the child didn t manage to win after all those plans and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The next question we usually ask ourselves is why? why the color, why the worn out look of the farmhouse, why the surroundings, in general why is the painting depicted like this? That brings up the need to analyze the work of art at hand. When focusing on this painting, you can see a few birds soaring over the farmhouse. They re quite small so there s some difficulty telling if they re flying towards or away from the farmhouse. It is still very probable that they flew over it at some point in time though. The lines in the painting are mostly depicted in the trees, and outer walls of the farmhouse. Standing firm the trees look, and or represent strength and dominance. It makes you wonder if there s still hope for the dead looking environment surrounding the farmhouse. As a human, it is common for us to form emotional bonds with people we are close with especially to our parents. Most of the studies conducted on the attachment theory mainly focuses on the attachment between infants and their parents, although attachments between adults can also occur. Attachment behaviour is not only observed in humans but also in animals, which is also referred to as imprinting by biologists. This essay will examine the attachment theory, explore Ainsworth strange situation experiments and discuss how infant attachment styles affect later development. As a result of the contribution they make to the economic growth and development of the United States, banks are among the most regulated firms in the country. Knowledge is facts, information, and skills acquired by a person through experience or education. You may gain knowledge through education but you can t be taught wisdom. Sometimes that s a hard learned lesson. In Siddhartha, Herman Hesse uses the theme wisdom cannot be learned nor gained through teachings but can only be achieved through experience. Which is very evident through seeing Siddhartha going through his journey of life to reach full enlightenment/wisdom on his own. Siddhartha early on in his rich Brahmin life realizes that the teachings he s learning from the Brahmins is inadequate to reach enlightenment. Siddhartha is not content with having knowledge he knows that there is more to learn and receive. The Brahmins are not fulfilling his mind. He had begun to sense that his venerable father and his other teachers, that the wise Brahmins had already imparted to him the bulk and the best of their knowledge...his mind was not contented (5). This shows that he realizes there is more and he decides to leave to find that more . Siddhartha finds the Samanas and becomes apart of them. He gains knowledge but questions their way to nirvana /enlightenment. During the samana period he is discontent with what he has already learned thinking that he has been taught all there is to learn from the Samanas. I am willing to listen to these teachings though in my heart I believe that we ve already tasted the best fruit of these teachings (21). Siddhartha believes the teachings of wisdom and knowledge but is discontent with learning it and tries to find other paths to enlightenment. After the Samanas, Siddhartha crosses the river to find someone that has reached the highest level of wisdom and enlightenment. He is still discontent but acknowledges that he can reach that level if he keeps searching. Paideia as Bildung in Germany in the Age of Enlightenment ABSTRACT: There have been many interpretations of Bildung in the history of German philosophy, from the Medieval mystics to the secularization of the Enlightenment. Wilhelm von Humboldt s work at the end of the 18th century is a good example. He placed the idea of Bildung at the center of his work because it was rooted in a dynamic, transforming idea of the natural and human worlds while also being oriented toward a model of balance and perfection. The original meaning of bilden, as the Deutsches WГ¶rterbuch by Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm states, is that of a plastic activity on the sensory level and means giving shape, producing a certain object abiding to the rules which preside over the Art. If a never event either happens to a patient or in a hospital that the patient goes to, then that patient would have less trust towards the healthcare facility overall. The one thing that healthcare organizations need is their patients trust. The second problem: insurers are beginning to hold healthcare facilities financially responsible for never events (Ozan Rafferty). Like most addictions, Compulsive Shopping (CS), also known as Oniomania, can be incredibly destructive causing financial strain, family and social neglect, and depression. Although the phrase Shop till you drop is a common turn of phrase amongst consumers, to others its meaning is literal. Oniomania was first explored more than a century ago. However, this addiction has only been acknowledged and closely monitored over the last decade (Quinn, 2014). Online shopping, perhaps the most addictive method of shopping, is increasing at an alarming rate. Due to the fact that individuals are not physically exchanging money, the transaction is less likely to register with the consumer (Quinn, 2014). Shopping addiction is identified as having credit and store cards that have reached their limit. One of the attractions to addicts is the instant gratification that comes from making purchases; research suggests this actually makes them feel worse (Engs, 1999 2011). • 34. Graffiti Is Not Art Essay Art. Art is the expression or application of human creative skill and imagination, typically in a visual form such as painting or sculpture, producing works to be appreciated primarily for their beauty or emotional power. (google). That s kind of a lot. Basically, art is anything created as a product of human creativity and imagination to portray a message, trigger an emotion, or just, look good. That being said, what isn t art? Anything, from the mona lisa to the projects sitting around this room were made by human imagination and creativity to portray a message or just be beautiful. What if you were told, that all of the hard work that was put into those projects and paintings, was illegal? Not accepted by some people as art, and frowned upon. Graffiti is a controversial topic in some areas that would say that graffiti can t be considered art. But how can t it be considered art? Does the location or the message of the art make it any less art? How much do people even know about graffiti, which is judged upon so hard in today s era? Graffiti has been used many times in history to preserve and show political and religious ideas of the past. Street artists are preserving the history that is deemed illegal at this time. Graffiti itself is history, and it tells stories as well as preserving cities and adding a creative aspect to everyday life. The ...first forms of scripture and storytelling ... were through drawings on walls. Stories passed through generations... were preserved on rocks or walls. (Lloyd, Alexis). Now street artists are simply doing the same, whether it s murals, tags, or people just messing around; They are preserving the unique cultures that we have today, or trying to make a name for themselves through art, or portray a political message. 85% of graffiti is just tags. (Akbar, Airfa). People s names or words made to look interesting. People trying to preserve their name through art. And this is considered a crime. Identity in the Works of Eavan Boland and Seamus Heaney Many times poetry is reflective of the author s past as well as their personal struggles. One struggle that poets write about is of identity and the creation, as well as loss, of individual identities. Using a passage from the essay Lava Cameo by Eavan Boland, I will show how two poets use their craft to describe their struggle with identity. Eavan Boland and Seamus Heaney both write poems which express an internal struggle with roles of identity and how they recreate their roles to fit their needs. Reputation is the acknowledgment by other people of some characteristic. Although having a good reputation is very important to many people nowadays. It is also important to people who lived many centuries ago. In the poem Beowulf, having a righteous reputation is very important and greatly valued by many characters, especially to Danish people, Beowulf, Grendel, and Grendel s mother. To begin with, the reader first notices the importance of reputation in the poem when Beowulf and his twelve warriors land on the Danish shores. As they are getting down from the ship, a Danish watcher sees them and goes up to them to see who they are. The lieutenant asks Beowulf who he is, and why he is coming to his coast. Beowulf replies by saying, We... follow Higlac, my father was a famous soldier...men all over the earth...remember him. (156 163) Then, the lieutenant figures out that Beowulf has a good reputation. Therefore, he allows Beowulf and his men to enter the Danish shores, and he leads them to Hrothgar. This incident shows the reader that reputation is very important, and if a character has a bad reputation, he would not be welcomed into other kingdoms. However, as we learn about the many things forbidden inside the harem, Fatima tells us that asking too many questions is one of them. That is only because asking a question such as what is a harem? is not really a question that the adults will volunteer to answer (Mernissi, 39). Like many children do, Fatima and her cousins loved to break rules. Fatima, Samir, and their other cousin, Malika used to occasionally climb onto the forbidden terrace. According to Fatima, Samir and Malika s main purpose to climb onto the highest terrace was to push their investigation of harems further. They would sit there and ponder on the unanswered questions by the adults and find out the truth behind these questions. They would ask each other rather simple questions: Is a harem a house in which a man lives with many wives? Do all married men have harems? Can you have more than one master in a harem? They used their own harem and other harems they knew up to answers these questions but eventually never found the true answer. While many of the adults gave different answers to what a harem, it was truly Lalla Yasmina, Fatima s maternal grandmother who gave her true closer on the definition of a harem. It is about a young soldier, Henry Fleming, and the emotions that he experiences during wartime ( amp;quot;Stephen amp;quot; n.p.). Crane s most famous work of poetry was Black Riders, which appears to have little or no outside influences (Quartermain 54:106). Black Riders was also an attempt by Crane to get rid of his thought that God was vengeful and wrathful (Colvert 12:101). amp;#9;In his later life Crane became ill with tubercleiosis after a ... London is the capital and heart of England that has its own history. Throughout history England has contributed so much, good and bad. With that contribution England is one of the well most known country that is known for poise, history, and tradition. English history began in 500,000 BC with a boxgrove man from West Sussex. He was the first human known in England. In 55 BC Julius Ceasar invaded England for Rome. After Cesar took control Roman control lasted for 400 years. From 449 550 Jutes, Angles, and Saxons arrived in England and took control. In the beginning of the ninth century the Vikings came and invaded England. The Vikings controlled North and East England. • 54. This Boy s Life Analysis In the memoir This Boy s Life the readers are introduced to Jack, a troubled boy who struggles through his adolescence. Jack s boyhood was plagued with a divorce, moving, hostile environments, and unknown identity. To create a foundation, and image for himself Jack began to create a new life, in his mind. This concept was shown throughout the whole memoir. For example, in this quotation, And on the boy who lived in their letters, the splendid phantom who carried all my hopes, it seemed to me I saw, at last , my own face. (214). Imagination was Jack main source of escape from what he truly was. Jack pictured himself as one of the elite, a football star, and 4.0 student. While in reality he was poor and failing his classes and never got on... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In our culture today we are taught to be yourself, and never lie. Which is why I surprised and intrigued by this quote, and everything that related to it. I wanted to understand Jack s life, because I have never experienced anything close to his life. Thus bringing me to how this quote related to the meaning as a memoir as a whole. Imagination brought Jack into a wonderful life, yet it was fake. This allowing him to think more highly of himself to get past Dwight s and other people s outlooks on him. However, Jack s life never turley became better. He went to the Hill school but got expelled, and Dwight s anger never left Jack, and clouded the little bit of happiness that Jack had gained in Chinook. All of this shows that imagination never truly makes things better, but provides an allusion. Through Jack it was learned that only working hard, and keeping out of trouble brings honest good fortune. Which was expressed throughout the memoir to allow the readers to see the good and bad that came from Jack s life. Overall, the quotation helped me understand Jack s use of imagination, and even the true meaning of the memoir as a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Also thinking about your financial plans and making big decisions like if you re going to collegeor not can be really stressful, but making a plan or narrowing your options make things so much easier along the way. Information such as what college you re attending, what degree you want, and how long you are planning to attend are key steps, since it is very important to know what you re putting yourself in, instead of jumping into something without knowing any information on the subject. I thought about the careers I m interested in, did research, and this is what I came up with. Ever since I can remember one of the things I ve wanted to study is psychology. • 56. Flappers Persuasive Speech Good Morning Birmingham today we will be getting a little into flappers on this cool fall day. Flappers are breaking the normal and changing the times no matter what anyone else says. For those that don t know, flappers by definition are fashionable young women whose only goal is to enjoy herself and go against what others tend to think is right. They are bringing up their hems and showing off their legs. The older generation look down upon this saying it s not lady like and it must stop. But flappers have another idea in mind. They want freedom to do what they want, from being able to cut their hair short and going out all night. I have a flapperhere with me in the studio and her name is Linda. How are you Linda? I said.
