1.1 Explain The Difference Between Sequence And Rate Of...
Explain the difference between: The sequence of and rate of development And why this difference is
important The sequence of development refers to the usual order in which development occurs. The
main difference between the sequence and the rate is that the sequence is the order in which
development takes place, whilst the rate is the time frame given for the average development of a
child at a certain age. The sequence of development is like a milestone as children usually finish one
area of development before moving to another. In life each child is unique and individual; Patterns of
development will be different too. Some Children develop quicker in different areas. Development can
vary from child to child. If a child has difficulties or aren t as advanced as other children it may mean
some delay in progressing on to the next development area. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

This varies between each child although they tend to follow the same pattern. An example would be
the rate at which children learn to walk, my friend s child was walking at 8 months old yet my own
child didn t walk until she was 14 months old and never crawled, she shuffled on her bottom, it never
stopped her from accomplishing things. All children develop at different rates but by seeing the
comparisons we may be able to identify if there are any difficulties with a child s development. It s
important to know the difference between the sequence and rate of development as it helps to meet the
children s individual needs. It helps you recognise if any children have special educational needs
(SEN) and helps you plan to make sure they are getting the help and support they may

Character Analysis Of Monsieur Meursault In The Stranger
To start with, in the novel The Stranger, by Albert Camus, the protagonist and the narrator, Monsieur
Meursault is hated and feared by his community for murdering an innocent man. Meursault is known
for being heinous and lacking sentimental value. He is only known as a hero in his best friend s eye s
considering his trust in him. Meursault rarely cares for people. Although Monsieur Meursault is loyal
to his loved ones, he almost never shows affection in any friendship or relationship.
All through the novel, Meursault lacks emotion and sympathy. In the beginning, Monsieur undergoes
his mother s funeral where he shows no empathy. From then on, it is clear that Monsieur Meursault isn
t sensitive at all. Later on in the novel, when asked about his thoughts on love and marriage, Meursault
states that he doesn t understand the point of it. Not many people thought much about Monsieur
Meursault until he murdered someone. Many people thought he was inhumane for showing no signs
of guilt for murder, especially the prosecutor, Has he so much as expressed any remorse? Never,
gentlemen. Not one during the preliminary hearings did this man show emotion over his heinous
offense (Camus 100). All in all, it is shown that while on trial, Meursault did not show any sign of
remorse for taking someone s life.
Personally, I believe that the people in the community are right to hate and fear Meursault. Afterall,
Monsieur Meursault murdered an innocent man who did not attack or hurt him in any way. While on
trial, Monsieur Meursault stated that he did not hunt down the Arab and intend to kill him. Meursault
couldn t justify why he murdered the man, as stated in the text, Well, then, why was I armed and why
did I return to precisely that spot? (Camus 88). There was absolutely no excuse as to why Meursault
killed the Arab and it was evidently shown that he was going to be held accountable for his actions.
Altogether, many people will despise and fear, Monsieur Meursault for being a murderer.
Throughout the text, Meursault had remained loyal to his close friend Raymond and was always
willing to help him. For instance, when Raymond had been caught beating his girlfriend Monsieur
Meursault agreed to act as a witness and state

How To Create A Disaster Recovery Plan Essay
A Primer on How to Create a Bullet Proof Disaster Recovery Plan for the Entire Organization
Minutes after the first of two planes plunged into the World Trade Center s Twin Towers on September
11, 2001, Morgan Stanley Dean Witter, Inc., the largest tenant in the World Trade Center, declared a
disaster and rushed its disaster recovery plan into place with the help of SunGard Recovery Solutions,
a third party disaster recovery service provider. At the last time, about seven other tenants in the World
Trade Center followed suit and contacted SunGard.
The events of September have made disaster recovery planning rise to the top of every organization s
IT department priority list. Until the first attack on the World Trade Center in ... Show more content on

A disaster can strike at any time. In fact, there are more than 35 types of disasters, ranging from the
most common – power outages to the most catastrophic – earthquakes. In essence, a disaster includes
any type of interruption of service that results from some force beyond the organization s control.
Disaster recovery provides systematic procedures for how to react to and how to recover from that
ominous external or internal force. Disaster recovery planning, which complements business
continuity and contingency planning, ensures the ability of the organization to function effectively if
an unforeseen event severely disrupted normal operations.
The following template will help the key individuals in your organization to go through the thought
process for preparing a disaster recovery plan, which s aimed at restoring all critical business
functions, rather than disparate functions such as the data center, alone.
Gather Information
Organize the Project
A successful initiative of this magnitude requires these things: support from senior management
associated with the organization, a dedicated disaster recovery team whose members have knowledge
of critical business systems, and a well thought out planning strategy and testing strategy. The disaster
recovery coordinator, working with the appropriate team leaders, should perform steps 3 to 7. Senior

Change Blindness And Its Effects On Blindness
Many studies and experiments have been conducted to explain why change blindness occurs and in
what situations is change blindness more likely to occur. Literature on change blindness is quite
extensive, as it is an emerging area in psychology. A number of researchers have conducted
experiments into the key areas where change blindness has been found to cause consequential
outcomes. These areas include the effects of change blindness on eye witness testimonies, driving
ability, and effects on autism. Literature on change blindness places an emphasis on methodology and
this literature review will focus primarily on this. According to Simons Levin (1998) change blindness
is the phenomenon that occurs when a person fails to detect large changes between one viewed scene
and another. Recent studies show similar findings and evidence as to the original literature into change
blindness. As stated by Rensink, 2002 (as cited in Davies Hone, 2007), change blindness has been the
subject of intensive research in recent years beginning with studies in which researchers manipulated
the content of abstract scenes.
Researchers do differ on their perspectives on change blindness depending upon their method
approach and background or field; however literature is largely in an agreed consensus as to what
change blindness is and its effects on attention. Change blindness is studied by using the methodology
of change detection, which is where participants are shown two stimuli that are

Analysis Of The Poem Chris Orr
Chris Orr was a good respectful young kid, there was nothing wrong with him except he was a heroin
addict stated Rick Anderson, local pier bowl merchant and longtime San Clemente local. Personally, I
remember growing up in San Clemente, CA and waking up each morning and walking out on to my
family deck and looking out onto the beach, thinking to myself how lucky my family was for the
opportunity to be by the beach. I loved the beach, the feel of the ocean s spray upon my face, the sand
beneath my toes, but it wasn t until heroin began to directly affect the lives of people around me that I
truly began to understand that something darker lingered along the shoreline. For example, Chris was
my friend, we grew up together, we played together as kids, and as we got older, we partied together.
For a short while Chris even lived at my house. His sweet personality and loving heart made him hard
to resist. No matter how much we loved him, he had a problem and he just couldn t seem to overcome
it. Finally, Chris lost his struggle with addiction in 2002. Many people mourned the light that was
extinguished on that day, thought of what could have and what should have been done differently to
prevent such a tragic death. Since his death, I have lost several friends to heroin use and the numbers
are growing in this small beach community. In examining the reasons behind the recent increase
heroin use in Orange County, including the impact on the youth, available medical

What Is The Destruction Of Mercury In Latin America
In a sample of 200 fish from the Madre de Dios River near mining operations, 56% of the fish had
mercury levels which exceeded the World Health Organization s acceptable guidelines by 0.5 mg kg 1
subsequently posing a health hazard to local communities (Diringer et al., 2015). This problem is not
only endemic to Madre de Dios, but also in the majority of developing countries in Latin America and
Africa where multinational corporations have established gold mining operations. Artisanal gold
mines have released more than 30 tons of mercury and caused the destruction of approximately 50,000
hectares of the Madre de Dios region (Dupraz Dobias, 2015). Mercury is discarded onto subsoils and
into the Madre de Dios River and its tributaries contaminating

The Late 19th Century Hypersexualization Of Salome, By...
The main focus of this article was on the depiction of the figure Salome, and the meanings behind
these interpretations. Lawrence Kramer discusses this topic on two fronts: the late 19th century
hypersexualizing of Salome and a more critical approach that stresses the study of the music itself.
The author presents the works of many late 19th century artists and draws upon criticism/discussion of
more modern scholars to help make his point. He concludes that though it would be easy to analysis
Salome, especially in the late 19th century, as the Freudian trend towards sexualizing everything, it
also provides a deeper view of the cultural underpinnings that create some of these dated and
misogynistic notions/ideas.
The author begins by presenting ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As was mentioned in class, Kramer highlights to artistic and cultural depictions of Salome not only as
a product of their time, but as objects with social agency, object that created the zeitgeist of their time.
This demonstrates a real life example of Frith s idea that identity is created through music, or in this
case that arts. In this discussion around a female figure, the artists who present their interpretations of
her not only contribute to the artistic realm, but inform and reinforce social dynamics. The musical
examples that the author presents in his discussion serve as bridge between the literary criticism their
musical embodiment. It also highlights the manner in which issues surrounding gender were discussed
which, as seen with previous examples (Crawford and Copland), shares much of the same language
when addressing issues around race and ethnicity. Also, when looking at the dichotomies inherent in
the representations of John and Salome (Christian v.s. Hebrew, tonal v.s. atonal, male v.s. female), the
emerging sentiment is that of us v.s. them, which serves as the basis for many misunderstandings or
problems around race and ethnicity. This then ties into the idea of politics in music, such that a
composer or group of people are not only creating and accepting a certain identity, the very act of
doing so can be against mainstream or country currents. It could be understood as revolutionary acts.

Marcus Aurelius, Rome s Greastest Emperor Essay examples
Who is Marcus Aurelius? What did he do to make his mark in the pages of history? Why did the
people of Rome respect and admire him? To the common person, Marcus was just a man who was an
emperor of Rome and just another person who helped shaped this world. Marcus Aurelius was more
than that! Anthony Birley writes, The acquaintance of a man like Marcus Aurelius is an imperishable
benefit. The character of Marcus Aurelius is truly special, but was molded by many important people

Causes Of Valley Forge Dbq Essay
The cold, harsh winter in Valley Forge, Pennsylvania dejects the soldiers who continue to starve,
freeze, and remain ill. The Continental Army doesn t even know whether they will survive due to
these bad conditions, and most of the soldiers start to lose their hope, strength, and willingness. It all
started when George Washington was granted the general of the American army by the Continental
Congress in 1775. His soldiers have been struggling day and night to fight for their independence and
freedom. However, Washington s troops were forced to retreat to Pennsylvania by the British army,
and are now stuck in the winter camp at Valley Forge. It is cold, the air is smokey, and there is no
supplies or goods left for the soldiers. Also, there is a disease spreading around the camp like a virus
that continues to infect the Continental Army. How will they ever ... Show more content on

melancholy sound No Meat! No Meat! (Waldo, 1777) This means that during the winter, the army had
no meat to strengthen the soldiers and provide them protein. This also means that they soldiers
probably starved during their miserable time at Valley Forge. This is significant because without meat,
the soldiers will not be capable of facing the British army. Therefore, their energy will soon run out
because they will be running and fighting on an empty stomach. Clearly, the soldiers should leave the
winter camp because they will likely die if they stay. The troops could also die because they will
potentially die from the cold due to the lack of

Freud s Ego-Defense Mechanisms
Freud had studied many clients during psychotherapy sessions, (Hunt, 2007). He conjectured that the
id, ego, and superego were three main constituents of every individual, (Butcher, Mineka, Hooley,
2013). Freud believed that these three components might strive for different goals at times, which
leads to struggle and anxiety that the conscious limits with the use of defense mechanisms, (Butcher,
Mineka, Hooley, 2013). Defense mechanisms also known as ego defense mechanisms, mental
maneuvers that aid in pacifying anxiety in the unconscious rather than dealing with the worrisome
physical situation itself, (Butcher, Mineka, Hooley, 2013). A few types of defense mechanisms are
projection, displacement, and repression, (Butcher, Mineka, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

I study the material and take extensive notes; however, when I have to take tests I have an immense
amount of anxiety. I go through the test and I go back through the test a second and sometimes third
time to see if I can correct answers that I felt, I did not know. Each time I do this, I find that I end up
changing answers that were correct to incorrect. I have gotten extremely upset in the past because I
have done poorly on tests and I will be upset enough to be snippy with my husband and kids rather
than myself for changing answers I thought were accurate, but I second guessed myself. My children
were extremely noisy or arguing while I was taking the test and my husband did not stop their
bickering, so I had to step away from the timed tests to discipline them. Furthermore, this upset me
and I would lay the blame on my husband for his lack of action to keep the girls quiet while I was
testing or take them out of the house. Ultimately, I could have tried to take the test at a different time
when no one was home or I could have not gone back and changed answers. My using displacement
made me feel better about my not doing well because I put part of the blame on my husband or
children. Now days, I take my quizzes when no one else is home and I still need to work on not going
back to change answers, but at least I am owning my mistakes and finding alternative ways to lessen
my test anxiety. The third defense mechanism, repression, is something that I also have utilized
tremendously. According to Jones, repression was one of Freud s most distinguished and innovative
contributions to psychoanalysis, (as cited in Hunt, 2007). One could understand repression as the
denial of the presence of something that is the foundation of anxiety for an individual, which includes
the unconscious, (Schultz Schultz,

How Did The Working Class Change Dbq
As the industrial revolution swept through Europe, migration from rural to urban societies occurred.
Although this did create more opportunities at first, it eventually led to poor living conditions due to
an increase in population. Due to the usage of machines rather than hands, unemployment rose, and
guilds were ruined. Due to the increase in population, the food supply decreased. While economic
changes in the nineteenth century increased the amount of workers, the conditions they lived in were
not pleasant. Due to the economic conditions, a series of arguments on how to improve the lives of the
people were argued. Some argued that the only way to fix the economy was through the intervention

seventeenth century, these schools were typically only open to men. Some schools did allow women to

Insomni A Common And Overlooked Sleep Problem
A common and overlooked sleep problem throughout college aged people is insomnia. While some
people don t even know they have it, it could be greatly affecting their outlook on life. Not getting the
correct amount of sleep each night can lead to some very extreme mental health problems. These
include: paranoia, hallucinations, schizophrenia, and night terrors. Could therapy help people who
suffer from these health problems caused by insomnia? Researchers who conducted this experiment in
the UK, Freeman at el, (2015) hypothesized insomnia is a contributory casual factor to psychotic like
experiences. With the help of cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), the subjects will get better sleep,
therefore they will have less psychotic like experiences. The subjects for this experiment are a
randomized controlled group of 2,614 college students in the UK who tested positive for insomnia
(Freeman at el., p.1). The students will then be randomly split into two groups by the automated online
system (p.4). One group will be treated with CBT for insomnia and the other group will be receive
treatment as usual. Although it is explained that there are no exclusion criteria, all participants must be
at least 18 years of age and they must test positive for insomnia. However, the participants don t have
to test positive for psychotic like experiences, because they want to see how CBT works on the less
extreme cases of insomnia (Freeman at el., p.3). The participants are chosen by taking an

Two Other Philosophers, John Locke, And George Berkeley
Two other philosophers, John Locke, and George Berkeley have shown similar theories to the
discussion from the ideas presented by Plato. Unlike Plato who argues that we cannot determine what
is true or real based on experience, Locke argues that all knowledge which we use to determine what
is true or real comes from experience. And similar to Plato, Berkeley argues that only our ideas are the
only thing that is real. Locke also argues in his essay that knowledge is not something people are born

Locke s second point in his argument is that knowledge comes from the senses and how we perceive
the world. This means that all the knowledge society has acquired comes from the observations and
reasoning people have made based on their perceptions. In his essay, Locke presents the idea of two
fountains of knowledge. These fountains of knowledge is where all the ideas that we can have have
come from. The first fountain of knowledge is sensation, which involves all the five senses of the
human body. It is because of sensation we have ideas such as hot, the color orange, sweet, and bright.
The second fountain of knowledge is experience, which helps explain the things we perceive from the
first sense, such as reasoning, thinking, and knowing. Locke then separates experience into two
categories, primary and secondary qualities. Primary qualities are qualities that an object can have
without us needing to sense it such as size of an object or the way it is moving. An object will already
have these qualities regardless if a person recognizes them or not. Secondary qualities are the other
qualities such as color, or the sound an object makes when it hits the floor. These our qualities that
exist in our mind, not qualities that an object has already on its own. A great example is wine. When it
comes to wine many people have different experiences on how a wine tastes. Imagine one bottle of
wine that is sampled by two different

The Complete Persepolis Essay
Mikal Fikremariam
Cultural Psychology
Prof. Buckner
The Complete Persepolis War. That is a word many adults and children in America have a picture of
but have not lived through. America has been in a great deal of wars especially in the last hundred
years but none of those wars were on American soil, with exception to pearl harbor. Marjane Satrapi
has has grown up and lived through revolutionary Iran. The Complete Persepolis by Marjane Satrapi
is a memoir discussing Marjane s life during the Islamic Revolution.
The novel begins when Marjane is ten years old and the Islamic revolution just began. In book clearly
portrays how Iranian children were shocked by the shift of Iran to a more religiously conservative
country. The children did not ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Life is Australia is very difficult for her. She barely finishes high school, she starts doing drugs, and
ultimately becomes homeless. When she comes back to Iran she expects to fit in. However, due to her
separation from the society for so long Marjane has difficulty fitting into society (Satrapi 268). She
has a more westernized culture and her old friends do not understand her anymore (270). I found it
interesting that Marjane could not relate to her home culture. She has difficulty with enculturation.
Enculturation is the process by which individuals learn and adapt to ways and manners of their
specific culture (Matsumoto and Juang 59). Since Marjane is separated from her family she did not
have contact with socialization and enculturation agents. socialization and enculturation agents are the
people, institutions, and organizations that exist to help ensure that socialization and enculturation
occur (60). Since Marjane was separated from her culture during her adolescence, the most formative
years of her life, she is unable to relate to the society. Her time outside of Iran also broadened her
perspective. She sees the world through a westernized lense and has difficulty reverting back to her
childhood ideals and

Water Pollution
Water Pollution Pollution is harmful to the world that we have come to love and know. Pollution s
harmful effects on the natural world, our environment is tragic. Pollution is a hazard to a human s
health, and causes a vulnerable stage to the Earth s ecosystem. There are several types of pollution
such as; noise, water, air, thermal, and many more. Water pollution, in particular, is the contamination
from harsh chemicals, from various outlets, that spread into the bodies of water that will affect
humans, land animals, aquatic animals, living plants, and many more.
First, there is point source pollution, pollution that comes from a single location. An example of a
point source pollution would be rainfall. Rainfall picks up and carries human made pollutants, such as
harmful gases, oils, and smoke, which are then deposited into a body of water such as lakes, rivers,
and groundwaters. Factories and sewage plants are two of the common types of point source pollution.
Another main water pollution type is nonpoint source pollution, pollution that comes from multiple
locations and sources. An example of nonpoint source pollutions would be, pesticide run offs, urban
runoffs, bacteria or nutrients from livestock and crops, harmful chemicals from factories, and many
more. As technology improves, scientists are able to detect more pollutants, and at smaller
concentrations, in Earth s freshwater bodies. Containing traces of contaminants ranging from birth
control pills and sunscreen

Human Language And Animal Communication
Introduction
Firstly it is important to distinguish what is meant by human language and animal communication . By
providing definitions for both in my opening section I will then be able to go onto compare their
similarities and differences. Throughout this essay I will refer to the design features of language and
by comparing animal communication behaviours to them I will be able to show the extent to which
human language and animal communication are similar or different.
Defining Communication and Language
Communication can be defined as when ...the action of or cue given by one organism [the sender] is
perceived by and thus alters the probability pattern of behavior in another organism [the receiver] in a
fashion adaptive to either one both of the participants (Wilson 1975, p.111). Both humans and animals
are able to communicate.
Communication can be split into two categories: informative and communicative signals. Informative
signals are signs sent unintentionally, for example a human could talk fast to show nerves. Animals
can display this behavior too, for example an antelope running away from a lion would indicate it is
frightened. Communicative signals are intentional forms of communication by telling someone I am a
student you are intentionally telling them that you are a student. In animals, by barking a police dog is
intentionally telling the police to check a person.
The Oxford English Dictionary defines language as a system of human communication .

Purchase intention was one kind of behavioral intention,...
Purchase intention was one kind of behavioral intention, and the so called behavioral intention,
indicates our subjective judgment on what we will do in the future. Therefore, purchase intention
means one s possible action intention, which can be used to predict consumer s purchase behavior.
Blackwell et al (2005) claimed that purchase intention is part of behavioral intentions, and behavioral
intentions are cognitive plan to perform a definite action or possible behavior on an object. Each
concept of behavioral intention represents individual projection or the particular expected behavior to
be performed. According to Kotler (2010) purchase intention can define as consumer behavior occurs

At this stage, alertness of consumers to the products or services was formed. Manufacturers trying to
show the uniqueness of their products or services to the consumer in order to gain the curiosity in the
consumers mind. The sellers can capture and gained the interest of the consumer through additional
advertisements, or through the use of promotional discounts. The D represents desire. The
advertisement convinces consumers that they want and desire the product or service because it will
satisfy their needs. At this stage, manufacturers should encourage the desire of the consumers to try
and possess the products or services in high level so it can motivate consumers to make purchasing.
By using celebrity associations such as singer may spur the desire of the consumer, or featuring the
product in press publications such as magazines and newspaper. Next, the A is action, which the
sellers should convince consumers to take action by purchasing the product or service. The sellers can
use an additional benefit such as free delivery could also encourage the customer to take action and
buy. According to Farhana (2013), consumers basically evaluate and purchase a product when the
products have a quite similarity of their image. This is because, consumers have less confident to
purchase products at a higher or lower than their image because they do not have an extensive

Mandating Seat Belt Usage vs. Freedom of Choice Essay example
Mandating Seat Belt Usage vs. Freedom of Choice SOC120: Introduction to Ethics and Social
Responsibilities 1 How do you feel when you are told what you will or will not do? You may be told
that it is for your own good, but who has the right to decide what is or is not good for you? After all
who knows you better than you do? This brings me to the topic of my discussion. Even though there
are some statistics that may show a lower rate of injury or death if you wear a seat belt when in an
automobile accident, I do not feel that the government has the right to make wearing a seat belt
mandatory for adults because by making seat belts mandatory it takes away from our right to freedom
of choice, and wearing a seat ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
That no one has the right to decide what is right for them, and that no one should be able to mandate
what they have to or do not have to do. This topic is no different to them than say, flying in an
airplane. No one tells them that they have to fly in an airplane, which requires putting their life at risk,
yet they themselves make the decision to do so or not. According to our text, Utilitarianism evaluates
whether an act is right or wrong in terms of the act s consequences, and argues that, given a set of
choices, the act we should choose is that which produces the best results for the greatest number
affected by that choice. To break it down even further, the rule utilitarian contends that one should do
things that, as a rule, generate the greatest good for the greatest number (Mosser, K, 2010). I believe
this to be the philosophy that the government has taken into account when establishing the seat belt
mandate laws. They, being those who make these types of laws, are in fact looking out for what they
believe is the greater good for the majority involved. They are not taking into account our god given
freedom to make these types of choices for ourselves. On the other hand, those who oppose the
passage of this law error on the ethical egoism philosophy. This philosophy argues that our moral
evaluations should be made in terms of our desires and goals. Something that promotes what I want is
regarded as right; something that

What Is The Difference Between The Godoras Box And...
Loo Wit the Fire Keeper and Pandora s Box
Some people are under the idea that myths can only explain how things were created. However, this is
disproved by many myths. The myths Loo Wit the Fire Keeper and Pandora s Box show that some
myths can also teach universal themes. Even though both Loo Wit the Fire Keeper and Pandora s box
support the theme every cloud has a silver lining, in Loo Wit the Fire Keeper the Creator wants peace
and harmony with mankind while in Pandora s Box Zeus wants to punish mankind. In the myth
Pandora s Box, the gods create Pandora to punish the humans because of Prometheus actions. The
gods give the gift of curiosity to Pandora which causes her to eventually open a box filled with evil.
One of the many differences between the myths are that Pandora s Box explained the creation of
something completely different than Loo Wit the Fire Keeper. In Pandora s Box, the myth explained
the creation of all the evils in the world today: War and Famine, Crime and Pestilence, Spite and

was Hope. In Loo Wit the Fire Keeper, Loo Wit ends up keeping peace between the mountains: Loo

Analysis Of The Poem The Darkness Within Men By Steve...
12 Years a Slave positions utter beauty between and within scenes of violence and abjection to inspire
poignant reflection; frequent tranquil landscapes emphasize gruesome acts and remind us of man s
capability for despicable amorality. Though we often like to sequester slavery to a time and a place no
longer existent, it was not 19th century Louisiana that committed these heinous acts but rather the
privileged white men who occupied the territory. Louisiana landscapes are and always will be
beautiful; it is man that muddies our retrospective visions. Yet, Steve McQueen allows us to breathe
for the beauty itself often provides relief from horrific previous scenes; he simply does not create
empty breaks. We both reflect on the darkness within men and wonder exactly how this beauty affects
and/or represents the various characters. The jarring juxtaposition of beauty and abjection inspires
psychological introspection for we are never awarded with beauty from subjective points of view (it is
presented from anonymous angles). The cotton picking scenes and the scene in which Solomon rows
down the river illustrate the jarring effects beauty and abjection create when presented simultaneously.
Both enforce a separation between man and nature and emphasize the heinous through means of polar
comparison, yet also tie visual beauty to the retention of hope. Beginning with the cotton picking
sequences, Steven McQueen frequently uses a wide far shot and captures the blinding white

A Brief Note On Chad Cameroon Petroleum Development And...
In 2003, construction ended on a pipeline project more commonly referred to as the CCPP (Chad
Cameroon Petroleum Development and Pipeline Project). The main actors in this project besides the
World Bank consisted of a triumvirate of oil companies with Exxon Mobil at the helm, along with
Petronas Malaysia ChevronTexaco. The project was under many watchful eyes in the global political
theater as it hoped to prove as a model for other developing countries. It also sought to break the spell
of the resource curse which it is generally known, is that countries rich in natural resources, specially
oil, tend to suffer from lower living standards, slower growth rates and higher incidence of conflict
than their resource poor counterparts. (Auty, 1997)
The project entailed constructing a pipeline which would begin in the Doba basin in Chad which was
said to contain in excess of 1 billion barrels of oil and stretch southwest through to the Cameroonian
port city of Kribi. This pipeline measures an impressive 1,070 kilometers and had an initial price tag
of $3.5 billion; which was later then confirmed by Exxon Mobil to, in fact, cost $4.2 billion.
Unsurprisingly, the main reward from these barrels of black gold would be a monetary reward for all
the parties involved. For Chad, the revenues were estimated to be $5 billion over the course of 25
years and this didn t consider other potential oil fields. The World Bank attempted to ensure that any
revenues on the Chad side,

They are many times attending universities because it is a stepping stone en route to a career as a
professional athlete, just like an accounting major is studying in order to be recruited by an accounting
firm. The lifestyle of a student athlete is quite different though. A student athlete must attend practice
for 10 to 20 hours per week, travel to games on most weekends during the season, and at the same
time, keep up with an academic workload comparable to that of a student without commitment to
athletics. But unlike ordinary students without athletics, student athletes must also many times care for
families and spouses. Actually, approximately 24% of student athletes are married, and of that 24%,
about 62% have children. Of the students without their own spouses or children, many must care for
parents and siblings.
The rules and regulations regarding the student athlete are set forth by the NCAA, which serves as the
governing body over college athletics. Most college athletes are not wealthy and among the many
rules imposed for these privileged individuals, they are not permitted to carry jobs, receive money,
rewards, or any type of kickbacks from any sources other than family. The NCAA does not allow their
athletes to hold jobs because the job issue has ramifications on recruiting. The NCAA believes some
schools would have an unfair recruiting advantage over other

Deaf Children Syntactic Processing
Syntactic Processing Among Deaf Children
Key Words: Event Related Potentials, Deaf, Children, Syntax, Violations

Introduction
Language acquisition occurs very early in development. There have been numerous studies on syntax
and English speaking children, however, there have been few syntactic experiments conducted on deaf
children. Therefore, I purpose an experiment that considers whether deaf children have similar, or
differing event related brain potentials (ERP) signals. Additionally, I would explore whether such
children can detect syntactic violations in certain brain regions, similar to typically hearing children.

Results also correlate with Silva Pereyra et al s article (2004), demonstrating that 4 year old deaf
children process syntactic information in the anterior portions of the brain. This may suggest that as
children s brains mature, sentence processing occurs in more specific brain regions. These results
further suggest that similar to hearing children, deaf children are able to discriminate syntactical
violations during sentence processing. One limitation in this study is the lack of participants involved
(i.e. 20 participants in each age group). Having a larger sample size would be more representative of
the population and thus would enhance

  • 2. 1.1 Explain The Difference Between Sequence And Rate Of... Explain the difference between: The sequence of and rate of development And why this difference is important The sequence of development refers to the usual order in which development occurs. The main difference between the sequence and the rate is that the sequence is the order in which development takes place, whilst the rate is the time frame given for the average development of a child at a certain age. The sequence of development is like a milestone as children usually finish one area of development before moving to another. In life each child is unique and individual; Patterns of development will be different too. Some Children develop quicker in different areas. Development can vary from child to child. If a child has difficulties or aren t as advanced as other children it may mean some delay in progressing on to the next development area. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This varies between each child although they tend to follow the same pattern. An example would be the rate at which children learn to walk, my friend s child was walking at 8 months old yet my own child didn t walk until she was 14 months old and never crawled, she shuffled on her bottom, it never stopped her from accomplishing things. All children develop at different rates but by seeing the comparisons we may be able to identify if there are any difficulties with a child s development. It s important to know the difference between the sequence and rate of development as it helps to meet the children s individual needs. It helps you recognise if any children have special educational needs (SEN) and helps you plan to make sure they are getting the help and support they may ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Character Analysis Of Monsieur Meursault In The Stranger To start with, in the novel The Stranger, by Albert Camus, the protagonist and the narrator, Monsieur Meursault is hated and feared by his community for murdering an innocent man. Meursault is known for being heinous and lacking sentimental value. He is only known as a hero in his best friend s eye s considering his trust in him. Meursault rarely cares for people. Although Monsieur Meursault is loyal to his loved ones, he almost never shows affection in any friendship or relationship. All through the novel, Meursault lacks emotion and sympathy. In the beginning, Monsieur undergoes his mother s funeral where he shows no empathy. From then on, it is clear that Monsieur Meursault isn t sensitive at all. Later on in the novel, when asked about his thoughts on love and marriage, Meursault states that he doesn t understand the point of it. Not many people thought much about Monsieur Meursault until he murdered someone. Many people thought he was inhumane for showing no signs of guilt for murder, especially the prosecutor, Has he so much as expressed any remorse? Never, gentlemen. Not one during the preliminary hearings did this man show emotion over his heinous offense (Camus 100). All in all, it is shown that while on trial, Meursault did not show any sign of remorse for taking someone s life. Personally, I believe that the people in the community are right to hate and fear Meursault. Afterall, Monsieur Meursault murdered an innocent man who did not attack or hurt him in any way. While on trial, Monsieur Meursault stated that he did not hunt down the Arab and intend to kill him. Meursault couldn t justify why he murdered the man, as stated in the text, Well, then, why was I armed and why did I return to precisely that spot? (Camus 88). There was absolutely no excuse as to why Meursault killed the Arab and it was evidently shown that he was going to be held accountable for his actions. Altogether, many people will despise and fear, Monsieur Meursault for being a murderer. Throughout the text, Meursault had remained loyal to his close friend Raymond and was always willing to help him. For instance, when Raymond had been caught beating his girlfriend Monsieur Meursault agreed to act as a witness and state ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

How To Create A Disaster Recovery Plan Essay A Primer on How to Create a Bullet Proof Disaster Recovery Plan for the Entire Organization Minutes after the first of two planes plunged into the World Trade Center s Twin Towers on September 11, 2001, Morgan Stanley Dean Witter, Inc., the largest tenant in the World Trade Center, declared a disaster and rushed its disaster recovery plan into place with the help of SunGard Recovery Solutions, a third party disaster recovery service provider. At the last time, about seven other tenants in the World Trade Center followed suit and contacted SunGard. The events of September have made disaster recovery planning rise to the top of every organization s IT department priority list. Until the first attack on the World Trade Center in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A disaster can strike at any time. In fact, there are more than 35 types of disasters, ranging from the most common – power outages to the most catastrophic – earthquakes. In essence, a disaster includes any type of interruption of service that results from some force beyond the organization s control. Disaster recovery provides systematic procedures for how to react to and how to recover from that ominous external or internal force. Disaster recovery planning, which complements business continuity and contingency planning, ensures the ability of the organization to function effectively if an unforeseen event severely disrupted normal operations. The following template will help the key individuals in your organization to go through the thought process for preparing a disaster recovery plan, which s aimed at restoring all critical business functions, rather than disparate functions such as the data center, alone. Gather Information Organize the Project A successful initiative of this magnitude requires these things: support from senior management associated with the organization, a dedicated disaster recovery team whose members have knowledge of critical business systems, and a well thought out planning strategy and testing strategy. The disaster recovery coordinator, working with the appropriate team leaders, should perform steps 3 to 7. Senior executives ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Change Blindness And Its Effects On Blindness Many studies and experiments have been conducted to explain why change blindness occurs and in what situations is change blindness more likely to occur. Literature on change blindness is quite extensive, as it is an emerging area in psychology. A number of researchers have conducted experiments into the key areas where change blindness has been found to cause consequential outcomes. These areas include the effects of change blindness on eye witness testimonies, driving ability, and effects on autism. Literature on change blindness places an emphasis on methodology and this literature review will focus primarily on this. According to Simons Levin (1998) change blindness is the phenomenon that occurs when a person fails to detect large changes between one viewed scene and another. Recent studies show similar findings and evidence as to the original literature into change blindness. As stated by Rensink, 2002 (as cited in Davies Hone, 2007), change blindness has been the subject of intensive research in recent years beginning with studies in which researchers manipulated the content of abstract scenes. Researchers do differ on their perspectives on change blindness depending upon their method approach and background or field; however literature is largely in an agreed consensus as to what change blindness is and its effects on attention. Change blindness is studied by using the methodology of change detection, which is where participants are shown two stimuli that are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. Analysis Of The Poem Chris Orr Chris Orr was a good respectful young kid, there was nothing wrong with him except he was a heroin addict stated Rick Anderson, local pier bowl merchant and longtime San Clemente local. Personally, I remember growing up in San Clemente, CA and waking up each morning and walking out on to my family deck and looking out onto the beach, thinking to myself how lucky my family was for the opportunity to be by the beach. I loved the beach, the feel of the ocean s spray upon my face, the sand beneath my toes, but it wasn t until heroin began to directly affect the lives of people around me that I truly began to understand that something darker lingered along the shoreline. For example, Chris was my friend, we grew up together, we played together as kids, and as we got older, we partied together. For a short while Chris even lived at my house. His sweet personality and loving heart made him hard to resist. No matter how much we loved him, he had a problem and he just couldn t seem to overcome it. Finally, Chris lost his struggle with addiction in 2002. Many people mourned the light that was extinguished on that day, thought of what could have and what should have been done differently to prevent such a tragic death. Since his death, I have lost several friends to heroin use and the numbers are growing in this small beach community. In examining the reasons behind the recent increase heroin use in Orange County, including the impact on the youth, available medical ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

What Is The Destruction Of Mercury In Latin America In a sample of 200 fish from the Madre de Dios River near mining operations, 56% of the fish had mercury levels which exceeded the World Health Organization s acceptable guidelines by 0.5 mg kg 1 subsequently posing a health hazard to local communities (Diringer et al., 2015). This problem is not only endemic to Madre de Dios, but also in the majority of developing countries in Latin America and Africa where multinational corporations have established gold mining operations. Artisanal gold mines have released more than 30 tons of mercury and caused the destruction of approximately 50,000 hectares of the Madre de Dios region (Dupraz Dobias, 2015). • 9. The Late 19th Century Hypersexualization Of Salome, By... The main focus of this article was on the depiction of the figure Salome, and the meanings behind these interpretations. Lawrence Kramer discusses this topic on two fronts: the late 19th century hypersexualizing of Salome and a more critical approach that stresses the study of the music itself. The author presents the works of many late 19th century artists and draws upon criticism/discussion of more modern scholars to help make his point. He concludes that though it would be easy to analysis Salome, especially in the late 19th century, as the Freudian trend towards sexualizing everything, it also provides a deeper view of the cultural underpinnings that create some of these dated and misogynistic notions/ideas. The author begins by presenting ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As was mentioned in class, Kramer highlights to artistic and cultural depictions of Salome not only as a product of their time, but as objects with social agency, object that created the zeitgeist of their time. This demonstrates a real life example of Frith s idea that identity is created through music, or in this case that arts. In this discussion around a female figure, the artists who present their interpretations of her not only contribute to the artistic realm, but inform and reinforce social dynamics. The musical examples that the author presents in his discussion serve as bridge between the literary criticism their musical embodiment. It also highlights the manner in which issues surrounding gender were discussed which, as seen with previous examples (Crawford and Copland), shares much of the same language when addressing issues around race and ethnicity. Also, when looking at the dichotomies inherent in the representations of John and Salome (Christian v.s. Hebrew, tonal v.s. atonal, male v.s. female), the emerging sentiment is that of us v.s. them, which serves as the basis for many misunderstandings or problems around race and ethnicity. This then ties into the idea of politics in music, such that a composer or group of people are not only creating and accepting a certain identity, the very act of doing so can be against mainstream or country currents. It could be understood as revolutionary acts. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

To the common person, Marcus was just a man who was an emperor of Rome and just another person who helped shaped this world. Marcus Aurelius was more than that! Anthony Birley writes, The acquaintance of a man like Marcus Aurelius is an imperishable benefit. The character of Marcus Aurelius is truly special, but was molded by many important people and figures in his life. Intrigued by Stoicism, Marcus seriously began to study morals and seems to have thought that his literary labours had gone far enough. Marcus writes: I am at present fascinated by the books of Aristo the Stoic and at the same time disconcerted; when they show how far my mind falls behind those better minds your pupil blushes very hot and is cross with himself because after 25 years he has not drunk deeply of the springs of good opinion and purer reason. And so I pay the penalty, am angry, sad, I go without food. In the bonds of these cares I have put off till tomorrow my task of writing for you every day. But now I bethink me of an Attic speaker s advice to the Athenian assembly sometimes to let the laws slumber. Accordingly I will let Aristo sleep peacefully for a little, and turn me heart and soul to your dramatic poet, first, however, reading some short speeches of Cicero. But at for writing I will do that either on one side of the other, for from today Aristo will never sleep so soundly as to allow me to advocate both sides in the same matter. The Continental Army doesn t even know whether they will survive due to these bad conditions, and most of the soldiers start to lose their hope, strength, and willingness. It all started when George Washington was granted the general of the American army by the Continental Congress in 1775. His soldiers have been struggling day and night to fight for their independence and freedom. However, Washington s troops were forced to retreat to Pennsylvania by the British army, and are now stuck in the winter camp at Valley Forge. (Waldo, 1777) This means that during the winter, the army had no meat to strengthen the soldiers and provide them protein. This also means that they soldiers probably starved during their miserable time at Valley Forge. This is significant because without meat, the soldiers will not be capable of facing the British army. Therefore, their energy will soon run out because they will be running and fighting on an empty stomach. Clearly, the soldiers should leave the winter camp because they will likely die if they stay. Freud believed that these three components might strive for different goals at times, which leads to struggle and anxiety that the conscious limits with the use of defense mechanisms, (Butcher, Mineka, Hooley, 2013). Defense mechanisms also known as ego defense mechanisms, mental maneuvers that aid in pacifying anxiety in the unconscious rather than dealing with the worrisome physical situation itself, (Butcher, Mineka, Hooley, 2013). I go through the test and I go back through the test a second and sometimes third time to see if I can correct answers that I felt, I did not know. Each time I do this, I find that I end up changing answers that were correct to incorrect. I have gotten extremely upset in the past because I have done poorly on tests and I will be upset enough to be snippy with my husband and kids rather than myself for changing answers I thought were accurate, but I second guessed myself. My children were extremely noisy or arguing while I was taking the test and my husband did not stop their bickering, so I had to step away from the timed tests to discipline them. Furthermore, this upset me and I would lay the blame on my husband for his lack of action to keep the girls quiet while I was testing or take them out of the house. Ultimately, I could have tried to take the test at a different time when no one was home or I could have not gone back and changed answers. My using displacement made me feel better about my not doing well because I put part of the blame on my husband or children. Now days, I take my quizzes when no one else is home and I still need to work on not going back to change answers, but at least I am owning my mistakes and finding alternative ways to lessen my test anxiety. The third defense mechanism, repression, is something that I also have utilized tremendously. According to Jones, repression was one of Freud s most distinguished and innovative contributions to psychoanalysis, (as cited in Hunt, 2007). One could understand repression as the denial of the presence of something that is the foundation of anxiety for an individual, which includes the unconscious, (Schultz Schultz, ... Not getting the correct amount of sleep each night can lead to some very extreme mental health problems. These include: paranoia, hallucinations, schizophrenia, and night terrors. Could therapy help people who suffer from these health problems caused by insomnia? Researchers who conducted this experiment in the UK, Freeman at el, (2015) hypothesized insomnia is a contributory casual factor to psychotic like experiences. With the help of cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), the subjects will get better sleep, therefore they will have less psychotic like experiences. The subjects for this experiment are a randomized controlled group of 2,614 college students in the UK who tested positive for insomnia (Freeman at el., p.1). The students will then be randomly split into two groups by the automated online system (p.4). One group will be treated with CBT for insomnia and the other group will be receive treatment as usual. And similar to Plato, Berkeley argues that only our ideas are the only thing that is real. Locke also argues in his essay that knowledge is not something people are born with. Locke s second point in his argument is that knowledge comes from the senses and how we perceive the world. This means that all the knowledge society has acquired comes from the observations and reasoning people have made based on their perceptions. In his essay, Locke presents the idea of two fountains of knowledge. These fountains of knowledge is where all the ideas that we can have have come from. The first fountain of knowledge is sensation, which involves all the five senses of the human body. It is because of sensation we have ideas such as hot, the color orange, sweet, and bright. The second fountain of knowledge is experience, which helps explain the things we perceive from the first sense, such as reasoning, thinking, and knowing. Locke then separates experience into two categories, primary and secondary qualities. Primary qualities are qualities that an object can have without us needing to sense it such as size of an object or the way it is moving. An object will already have these qualities regardless if a person recognizes them or not. Secondary qualities are the other qualities such as color, or the sound an object makes when it hits the floor. Pollution is a hazard to a human s health, and causes a vulnerable stage to the Earth s ecosystem. There are several types of pollution such as; noise, water, air, thermal, and many more. Water pollution, in particular, is the contamination from harsh chemicals, from various outlets, that spread into the bodies of water that will affect humans, land animals, aquatic animals, living plants, and many more. First, there is point source pollution, pollution that comes from a single location. An example of a point source pollution would be rainfall. Rainfall picks up and carries human made pollutants, such as harmful gases, oils, and smoke, which are then deposited into a body of water such as lakes, rivers, and groundwaters. Factories and sewage plants are two of the common types of point source pollution. Another main water pollution type is nonpoint source pollution, pollution that comes from multiple locations and sources. An example of nonpoint source pollutions would be, pesticide run offs, urban runoffs, bacteria or nutrients from livestock and crops, harmful chemicals from factories, and many more. • 23. Human Language And Animal Communication Introduction Firstly it is important to distinguish what is meant by human language and animal communication . By providing definitions for both in my opening section I will then be able to go onto compare their similarities and differences. Throughout this essay I will refer to the design features of language and by comparing animal communication behaviours to them I will be able to show the extent to which human language and animal communication are similar or different. Defining Communication and Language Communication can be defined as when ...the action of or cue given by one organism [the sender] is perceived by and thus alters the probability pattern of behavior in another organism [the receiver] in a fashion adaptive to either one both of the participants (Wilson 1975, p.111). Both humans and animals are able to communicate. Communication can be split into two categories: informative and communicative signals. Informative signals are signs sent unintentionally, for example a human could talk fast to show nerves. Animals can display this behavior too, for example an antelope running away from a lion would indicate it is frightened. Communicative signals are intentional forms of communication by telling someone I am a student you are intentionally telling them that you are a student. In animals, by barking a police dog is intentionally telling the police to check a person. The Oxford English Dictionary defines language as a system of human communication . ... Even though there are some statistics that may show a lower rate of injury or death if you wear a seat belt when in an automobile accident, I do not feel that the government has the right to make wearing a seat belt mandatory for adults because by making seat belts mandatory it takes away from our right to freedom of choice, and wearing a seat ... According to our text, Utilitarianism evaluates whether an act is right or wrong in terms of the act s consequences, and argues that, given a set of choices, the act we should choose is that which produces the best results for the greatest number affected by that choice. To break it down even further, the rule utilitarian contends that one should do things that, as a rule, generate the greatest good for the greatest number (Mosser, K, 2010). I believe this to be the philosophy that the government has taken into account when establishing the seat belt mandate laws. They, being those who make these types of laws, are in fact looking out for what they believe is the greater good for the majority involved. They are not taking into account our god given freedom to make these types of choices for ourselves. Though we often like to sequester slavery to a time and a place no longer existent, it was not 19th century Louisiana that committed these heinous acts but rather the privileged white men who occupied the territory. Louisiana landscapes are and always will be beautiful; it is man that muddies our retrospective visions. Yet, Steve McQueen allows us to breathe for the beauty itself often provides relief from horrific previous scenes; he simply does not create empty breaks. We both reflect on the darkness within men and wonder exactly how this beauty affects and/or represents the various characters. The jarring juxtaposition of beauty and abjection inspires psychological introspection for we are never awarded with beauty from subjective points of view (it is presented from anonymous angles). The cotton picking scenes and the scene in which Solomon rows down the river illustrate the jarring effects beauty and abjection create when presented simultaneously. The project was under many watchful eyes in the global political theater as it hoped to prove as a model for other developing countries. It also sought to break the spell of the resource curse which it is generally known, is that countries rich in natural resources, specially oil, tend to suffer from lower living standards, slower growth rates and higher incidence of conflict than their resource poor counterparts. This pipeline measures an impressive 1,070 kilometers and had an initial price tag of $3.5 billion; which was later then confirmed by Exxon Mobil to, in fact, cost $4.2 billion.
