assessing their grade point average, age, hours spent studying, and various other factors which we
deemed our criteria for success . In doing so, we believed that we would find a radical difference
between the grade point average of student veterans compared to their traditional counterparts. The

their peers. This gap in achievement between the two groups suggests that student veterans ability to

The Rebirth of Ancient Cultures in Renaissance Florence Florence, Italy is known as the cradle of the
Renaissance (la culla del Rinascimento). It is a city full of beautiful architecture, art, and history. The
Renaissance was a powerful cultural movement that not only shaped all aspects of Florentine life, but
eventually the rest of Europe. Science, art, literature, philosophy, religion, architecture, and politics
have seen heavy influences by this movement. The term Renaissance literally means rebirth : the
rebirth of man and the rebirth of two important ancient cultures, Greek and Roman, which had been
lost with the beginning of the Middle Ages in Western history. Florence was very prosperous during
the late Middle Ages, next to Venice and Milan. It was the birthplace of many important thinkers,
artists, architects, and political figures who led the Renaissance. Along with the birth of the
philosophy of humanism, the rebirth of ancient Greek and Roman cultures were driven by a revived
interest in ancient thought, the advances in literature, the emphasis of human based ideals in the arts,
and the influence of the papacy and the Holy Roman Empire upon the Florentine government. Italian
thinkers had an interest in the ways that ancient Greeks and Romans thought, a driving force of the
Renaissance. It was the Florentines who first set out to rediscover the glorious past of these cultures.

Growing up as a kid, I was not concerned about the complexion of my skin, let alone the complexion
of my family and friends. In my family, some members have really fair colored skin that would make
you question if they re white, while others are a very dark black complexion. So once I got in high
school when Twitter, Facebook, and other social media sites became popular my eyes started to open
to a new form of ignorance. If you re active on social media then you ve definitely seen tweets and
Facebook statuses referring to the Team Light Skin vs. Team Dark Skin controversy in the black

a genuine issue in the world. It is a satirical monologue about an emcee rejecting their heritage, in this
case a Latino heritage, by impersonating white prominent figures in culture at an awards show. At the
