Income Tax And Tax Rates
Income Tax
As the name implies income tax is a percentage of a person s income but it is not quite as simple as
the percentage changes depending on how much you earn on average in a year (See Figure 1)
ergo if you make more money you pay a larger amount of income tax, however most people get a
Personal Allowance of ВЈ10,000 a year which you don t pay tax on therefore if you don t earn more
than this amount you aren t required to pay any form of income tax. There are certain forms of
income which you don t pay tax for example certain state benefits, interest on savings, rental
income below ВЈ4,250 and premium bonds.

VAT
VAT is a form of tax which is taken from the majority of goods and services, as well as certain
goods imported into the UK outside the EU. VAT can be taken from both B2B and B2C
transactions carried out by a business and can reclaim the VAT paid for goods and services
required for the business. There are three rates of VAT, Standard (20%), Reduced (5%), Zero
(0%) and certain are exempt from VAT or aren t included in the UK VAT system. To be able to
register to be able to use VAT you must first pass the VAT threshold which is currently В

meaning your company must have had a turnover at or above ВЈ81,000 to be eligible to apply. The
rate of VAT changes over time depending on the economic climate for example during 2008 VAT
rates dropped to 15% and by 2010 they increased to 17.5% until 2011 when they raised to todays
20% rate. This change in VAT rates can help to determine when a country is in the

The Language Of Hong Kong
Hong Kong is a city located on the southern coast of China with more than 90% of its population
being ethnic Chinese. Cantonese, English and Mandarin are three commonly used languages in
Hong Kong. With the return of sovereignty from Britain to China, Hong Kong shifts from a British
colony into a special administrative region of China. Due to this historical background, Hong Kong
has experienced significant changes in social, political and economic aspects over the past few
decades. The use of languages in Hong Kong is no exception. These three languages play
different roles and serve different functions over time. This paper is designed to give a broad
overview on the language used in Hong Kong. It begins with a brief introduction of Hong Kong s
social, economic and political background, then goes on to investigate the changing status and roles
of three languages in the government, business and mass media sector and discuss people s
attitudes towards the languages over time. The paper concludes with a summary of the change of
language.
1.Hong Kong s social, economic and political background
Hong Kong was once a British colony under the Treaty of Nanjing after the first Opium War in
1842. It was handed over to China on 1 July 1997 and becomes a Special Administrative Region
of People s Republic of China under One Country, Two Systems . This principle enables all Hong

Questions On Philip Axelrod s Final Socratics
Philip Axelrod s Final Socratics Seminar Questions Founding of the U.S 1) Where should the
power lie within the US.? (state/local level, national level) Neither, there must be balance between
local and national government. An example where almost complete power was held at the national
level was the British rule of the colonies. Although this rule did lend to economic and political
stability (despite falling apart pre revolution), the physical separation of the British national
government from the local American government lead to policies that seemed reasonable, but
were actually out of touch with the local population. In general, most taxes imposed by the British
seemed reasonable to them, as they were necessary to repay debt from the French and Indian war
and the cost of soldiers to protect colonists. Despite the fact that these taxes paid for entities
benefiting the colonists, they were actually disliked by the colonists. For example, the Sugar Act
was passed, which halved the taxes on molasses and started stricter enforcement of the tax was seen
as a reasonable compromise by the British, but actually protested by the colonists, due to the
economic struggles caused by the seemingly innocuous tax. On... Show more content on

One prime example of such enforcement were the enforcement acts. These acts allowed the
government to ensure that black citizens had the same political rights as people of other races.
They also enforced the idea of equal protection of the law, which ensured that race equality be
broken through law. The government, though it s military power, was able to enforce the legal
and political equality across races, and could battle groups like the KKK which seeked to limit
races equality. Without physical military support from the government, it is impossible to achieve
racial equality because violent groups like the KKK will always be ready to use violent means to

Smell Of The Dinosaur Summary
Despite agreeing with the description about the dinosaur provided in the reading passage, the
speaker claims that the hypothesis to justify the uses of the Dinosaur s crest are not entirely true
and he provides new conclusions about those three presented hypothesis.
Firstly, while in the reading passage it is stated that the Dinosaur s crest could be used to support
the sense of smell of the Dinosaur, the speaker casts doubt on this assumption. The speaker claims
that the brain structure of the Dinosaur was not developed enough for sensing the smell through the
crest. Therefore, the speaker believes that it wouldn t be likely that the dinosaurs had used their
crest to boost their sense of smell.
Secondly, in the reading passage it is proposed

Antigone Research Paper
Throughout history justice has been seen as many things depending on your culture, and moral
beliefs among these include, reparations, atonement, vengeance. As humans when we have been
disrespected, we often seek one of these to fix the wrong doings. While some are more morally
accepted such as reparations, and atonement, others like vengeance have gained negative
connotation. Sometimes this vengeance come more in a form of karma in which the people
who have been wrong seek to do the same or worse to those who have disrespected them. This is
the case in Sophocles play, Antigone and the story plot for one of Criminal Minds episode, getting
karma for disrespecting someone, or more specifically a higher power. In today s society while not

For example he portrayed justice as being a karma sort of framework, where if you did something
bad you would get something done in return. This is especially true in his play, Antigone in
which after two brothers fight for the crown both of them end up dead. The new king, Creon,
only gives a proper burial to one of the brothers. Antigone feels betrayed and goes back to
retrieve her other brothers body, but when the king finds out she did this he tries to kill her. He
does end up pardoning her death after an oracle warns him of his future but he still decides to
lock her in tomb for her to starve herself. As revenge Antigone hangs herself to not suffer a long
death, and when her fiance, Creon s son, finds this out he too kills himself, and when his mom
finds this out she too kills herself as well. This turns out being the gods version of justice to the
king for disobeying the orders of not giving the brother proper burial and killing Antigone orders.

Shakespeare Sonnet 130 Tone
Everyone in the world, in one way or another, experiences love; However, the source of it is
unknown. In Sonnet 130 the author, William Shakespeare introduces a speaker who is in love with
a woman he refers to as his mistress. The speaker expresses his love for her through a sonnet, but
unlike other authors of his time, Shakespeare writes his sonnetin a more unique and humorous way.
Shakespeare s excess use of negative similes and a mysterious tone change help convey the
meaning of love on a deeper, more intimate level by showing that looks are not as important as one
s inner beauty. Shakespeare compares his mistress to several beautiful things, but the comparison is
never in favor of the speaker s lover, which shows how the sonnet... Show more content on

The speaker loves his mistress even though she doesn t meet the impossible standards of a
goddess. After countless uncomplimentary statements about his mistress s flaws, the speaker
finally shows his admiration of her by stating that ВЁ [he loves] to hear her speak, yet well I
know music hath a far more pleasing sound. Even though he states that his mistress cannot be
compared to the beautiful sound of music and other beauties connected with a goddess, it still
shows how the speaker does love things about his mistress, but he loves specific things about
her. He loves his mistress because of her humanity, the fact she is real and not an exemplary
woman. The speaker claim that he has never [seen] a goddess go... [but] my mistress, when she
walks, [she] treads on the ground, shows his assertion that divine comparisons are not relevant,
for his beloved is beautiful without being a goddess and praises the mistress for her uniqueness
instead of making a ridicule of her. With great audacity, the speaker is able to think [his] love as
rare/ as she belied with false compare. When he declares that his love is indeed rare and valuable,
there is a tone change, insult to praise, which reveals how he does not need to make up false
comparisons anymore to describe his mistress s

Instructions: Please answer all questions
Question 1
Define the following terms used in food and agribusiness value chains. Give specific examples in
your answers
a.Agrifood value chains
A value chain is the range of activities required to bring a raw product to market. It is in a vertical
sequence and is often described as pond to plate, plough to plate, or farm to fork in an agri
business value chain. (Sturgeon, 2001)

Bolshevik Consolidation of Power
How successful were the Bolsheviks in consolidating their power from 1917 1924? Was
Communist ideology compromised during this period? On 24 26 October, the Bolshevik Party
seized power from Kerensky s Provisional Government. This was achieved with surprising ease.
Retaining their newly acquired power, however, was to prove difficult. Nonetheless, the Bolsheviks
proved successful in consolidating their power from 1917 1924, achieving this through a
combination of pragmatic reforms and ruthless terror. This ultimately led the Bolsheviks far from
their original goals and ideologies, and by 1924, the Soviet Union was a highly centralised one
party state. Immediately after the October revolution, the Bolsheviks consolidated their power using

The Bolsheviks also built a new police system and a ruling group that portrayed the same
discipline and unity that had characterised Russia s traditional ruling elites. As well as pragmatic
reforms, the Bolsheviks also used terror in order to consolidate their power from 1917 1924. In
December 1917, the Bolsheviks created a new secret police institution (the Cheka) to provide
security, encourage class warfare and bring the army under tighter control. An attempt on Lenin s
life in August 1918 saw the Cheka take harsh reprisals against all suspected enemies in what
became known as the Red Terror . The middle class, former nobility and the clergy were key
targets. During the Civil War, the Kadet party was outlawed and its leaders arrested. Russia had
become a one party state. The Cheka also killed the Tsar and his family to prevent them being used
as a symbolic rallying point for counter revolution. Despite compromising Communist ideology,
these ruthless measures were successful in suppressing internal opposition and thus consolidating
Bolshevik power. War Communism was introduced in 1918 as a means of consolidating Bolshevik
power. War Communism attempted to replace the free market with state control over all means of
production and distribution. In the towns, private trade was banned,

Becoming A Collegiate Or Professional Athlete
Many individuals grow up dreaming of becoming a collegiate or professional athlete. However,
no one achieves either level by chance. It takes talent, a desire to achieve greatness, and a
willingness to compete against other talented individuals to prove oneself in the world of sports.
The growth of eSports has created a new way in which to become a collegiate or professional
athlete. The term athlete, however, is filled with stereotypes. Many deem athletes as those trained
or skilled in sports, games, or exercises requiring strength, flexibility, and stamina. While video
gamers may not be as physically strong, they are highly skilled in a game, can be flexible, and
definitely demonstrate stamina. Consequently, video gameplayers should be considered athletes at

Layton s Essay On Rhetorical Analysis And Discussion
Layton begins his essay describing what engineering is; that its work is in the marketplace rather
than in a laboratory. He then states the engineer s dilemma is based on bureaucracy, not capitalism.
Engineers are called the original organization man, and are important to large businesses, but a
social revolution amongst them would not end their terms of marginality. Moving on, Layton then
goes over engineeringand its history in America. He then goes on to discuss professionalism.
Many engineers have a concern for their social status, and seek to be on par with doctors and
lawyers, and to do this, they must show more social responsibility. Layton quickly discusses
autonomy, and then goes on to explain the pros of professionalism, and that it prevents engineers
from becoming cogs in the industrial machine. Going on, Layton states that professionalism carries
an air of elitism, and is not democratic in nature, but can serve democratic ends. It requires
engineers to align with their profession. However, business resists... Show more content on

to full member. He then states that some must show unwavering loyalty to succeed, and talks
about conformism a bit more, some even going as far as to avoid unorthodox dress. Coming back
to the phases of an engineer, Layton states that the final step is moving from engineering to
business. Although this is not achieved by all, some do and completely sever ties with their

Respiratory Acidosis Case Study
Respiratory acidosis is a condition closely related to patients with Chronic Obstructive
Pulmonary Disease (COPD). According to Ranson Pierre, respiratory acidosis is characterized
by lab values including an increased amount of carbon dioxide (CO2) in the blood and a lower,
more acidic pH level (2016). More specifically, a CO2 value greater than 26 mEq/L and a pH
level below 7.35 (Ranson Pierre, 2016). These lab values signify the lungs inability to effectively
eliminate the CO2 produced by the body. In turn, this produces more carbonic acid H2CO3, which
then increases the acidity of the blood(Wasserman, 2017). The patient that prompted me to research
respiratory acidosis was admitted due to an exacerbation of COPD and asthma. This patient s lab
results showed an elevated CO2 level of 31 mEq/L. The form of COPD that the patient had was
chronic bronchitis. The pathophysiology behind chronic bronchitis is inflammation and
constriction of the bronchial tubes making a perfect environment for mucus to accumulate and
inhibit breathing (Pietrangelo, 2016). Because inspired oxygencannot flow as freely to the alveoli,
the diffusion of carbon dioxide from the bloodstream into the lungs is impaired. Since CO2 is

Furthermore, the nurse must identify the contributing factors to that underlying condition and
make sure that the patient thoroughly understands them. In regard to COPD, smoking is the
biggest causative factor. A nursing consideration, in this case, may include educating the patient on
smoking cessation. Incentive spirometry and deep breathing exercises can also be encouraged by
the nurse. Having the patient demonstrate proper spirometer use is a great nursing outcome that
may influence a patient to continue using it after discharge. If these actions are successful, the lab
values should reflect lower CO2 and normal

Ethical Ramifications Of Cloning
Cloning has been around since 1952 when Robert Briggs and Thomas King externally fertilized
and developed a leopard frog using somatic cell nuclear transfer. Though scientists had discussed the
need for communication about the ethical ramifications of cloning since as early as 1972, it was
not until the successful cloningof a sheep named Dolly in 1997 that cloning came to the forefront of
scientific and societal discussion. As a result of the continuity of fast paced scientific discovery, the
issues surrounding cloning of both animals and humans remain a hot topic, with people divided on
both sides of the controversy.

Youth Sports Negatives
As kids grow up you will notice that their parents are not quite sure what kind of sport they want to
sign them up for, so they enroll them in all of them hoping that their child will find a sport that they
will continue throughout their life. Kids usually range in sports such as basketball, football,
baseball, softball, soccer, dance, and gymnastics. With every youth sportorganization comes the
negatives and the positives. The negative aspects are that parents can be hard on their children, and
receiving a participation trophy or ribbon even though they lost. The positives being that they can
begin healthy lifestyles by participating in youth sports. Physically they get the required exercise
they need, and will eventually continue that throughout their life. Emotionally, they leave youth
sports will a sense of accomplishment, and being seen by college coaches to help boost their self
esteem.
Parents will generally take the coaching position when their kid plays an organized sport which
can potentially be a bad thing. For example, my dad thought he needed to coach me in every
sport I played until I told him he needed to be a spectator instead. After a while you will notice
these parents become very competitive in games that do not really matter to the kids playing
because they are just happy to be there. This can cause problems because when the kid of the coach

Effects Of Adoption
Life Changing Effects of Adoption
What if every child had a home and was part of a loving family? This occurrence is unlikely
because of the constant debate of whether or not adoption is a beneficial option. Some believe that
adoption is more of curse than a blessing. They believe adoption can cause problems for the child
by being raised in a culture unlike their own. On the other hand, adoption can help the child to be
open to the diversity of the world and to be respectful, loving, and compassionate towards those
who are different from them. The effects of adoption on the adopted child is quite positive in most
cases. Being adopted by a loving family, affects the child by giving them a hope for their future, a

Once the child has left for college or even their career path, they receive the blessing of knowing
their family will always be there for them. The family may not have been able to be there for the

the rest of his or her life. There is truly nothing like he or she having the ability to call their parents
when life is a lot harder than it seems.
Ultimately, adoption s effects on those who get adopted is all together quite positive. The world
may never see the positive effects and outcomes of adoption but there are some whose lives will
forever be changed by it. How crazy is it to think so many incredible effects come out of just one
daunting and joy filled task? Adoption may be a long process but so was the process of each child
moving from home to home. In the end, adoption leaves an incredible impact not only on the

Once inverted, built up gas was released by turning the stopcock to its opened and closed

the product, the top layer was to be extracted. The bottom layer was carefully and slowly

product in the separatory funnel and adding 23 mL of deionized H2O. The mixture was shaken
and allowed to settle until layers were observable. The top layer was the desired product and
approximately 25 mL of aqueous layer was extracted from the separatory funnel. Next, 25 mL of

Descriptive Essay On Destitute Beauty
Destitute Beauty In the large city of New York, there are many beautiful people. I am not one of
them. I can pass hours away sitting in a coffee shop in a tall seat next to the window, watching
the beauties pass, seeing my reflection against them even more bloated and lumpy than normal.
Some of them notice me. Most of them don t. It doesn t matter. Like I said, New York is a large
city, I ll never see them again. And anyway, I m sure they re used to people staring. How could
they not be, they draw people with their large, black rimmed eyes and lean figures and cutting
jawbones like dogs to the enticing smell of meat. I am just another dog, one they will forget in
moments. And when the sun sets, and the beautiful people fade away and the crowd becomes
faceless and intoxicated, that s when I leave, and where I stay until the sun rises, becoming one
with the pulse and throb of the mass. Promising myself that the next day, yes, the next day, I ll
get a job, ignore the cold, gorgeous people, succeed even with my lumps, and papery skin, and
eyes that are just a little too far apart. And the next day, with my headache, I return. Today is
yesterday and the day before. The sun is especially bright now, almost passive aggressively
bright, shining smugly through the haze that buries the city, bouncing into the small cafe in
which I spend most of my time. It s supposed to be homey, with nearly dead plants hanging
skeletal by the windows and overstuffed couches near a coffee table. I sit in the uncomfortable
seat that s almost comically tall, at the only table next to a window. The barista Ellen is chatting
happily with a customer, she barely notices me anymore. Which is fine by me. A woman, with
long legs and hollows under her cheekbones, struts past the cafГ©, a mere foot away from me. She
doesn t notice my stare. It s a funny thing. People talk all they want about feeling when people stare
at them, getting goosebumps and looking around frantically for their admirer. But either it isn t
true, or I m not important enough for my stare to mean anything, hold any weight. Searching
through the crowd, I find parts and pieces that I want most, playing a game I often play. Her taut
stomach, her long legs, her bright eyes,

General Characteristics Of Antimicrobials And Therapeutic...
General Characteristics of Antimicrobials
The usefulness of antimicrobials can be measured using the therapeutic index. The therapeutic
index is the ratio of the highest dose of the drug that is not toxic to the patient to the amount of
drug required to produce the desired effect. A high therapeutic index indicates a drug will be well
tolerated by most people, but a low therapeutic index means a patient being treated with the drug
should be carefully monitored for adverse effects. Antimicrobials are designed to have as large a
therapeutic index as possible, often by exploiting differences between human and bacterial cells,
such as the presence of a cell wall in some bacteria but in no human cells. This concept can also be
described as selective toxicity meaning the drug kills or inhibits the microbes while damaging host
cells as little as possible.
Antimicrobials can most broadly be described as either bactericidal or bacteriostatic. Bactericidal
agents cause disruption and death of microbial cells. The drugs generally act on the bacterial cell
wall, cell membrane, or DNA. Bacteriostatic substances only stop the bacterium from replicating
without killing it and typically affect the microbe s ability to synthesize proteins.
Finally, antimicrobials are often labeled as either narrow spectrum or broad spectrum. Broad
spectrum drugs are effective against a wide range of pathogens and can sometimes be used to treat
infections that have not been definitely diagnosed.

Adolescence In Irving Washington, The Devil And Tom Walker
Adolescence is a fundamental part of development of characteristics, as youth grow, they indulge
immaturity and naivety. Temptation is a primary initial in Irving Washington, The Devil and Tom
Walker(1824). The story foreshadowed the deal with the devil , it is more of a comparison for
what people give up for money, and in exchange for materialism. Adolescents today foretell the
themes of the deal with the deviland is referenced in modern American life. In The Devil and
Tom Walker, Tom agrees to the devil s deal. But he lives life in misery, unable to fulfill his wealth.
He feels grief at the deal with the devil and cowardly seeks to religionto repair his sins before it is

Through the stages of adolescents they fond freedom from disturbance just like the devil,
Deacon Peabody be damned, said the stranger, as I flatter myself he will be, if he does not look
more to his own sins and less to those of his neighbors. Here the devil criticizes Deacon Peabody
for being blind to his own sins and focusing too much on the sins of others. This reflects to
modern times how adolescents are hypocritical. Adolescents are intrusive but desire privacy.
Despite of adolescents lack of judgement they revere an individual s truth being, Since the red

persecutions of Quakers and Anabaptists; I am the great patron and prompter of slave dealers

the devil and by doing so he destroyed himself, and morals. The site will later imply to modern

The Trunk By Daniel Muttered
The Trunk
Daniel muttered under his breath about how there was no way eight hours of sleep could go by
so quickly as he annoyingly went to turn the noise making alarm clock. He woke up suddenly
due to the loud alarm clock which he always seemed to not remember setting. He was in such a
daze that he almost forgot what today was. You see, today was the start of the winter holiday,
and his buddies, Ellie, James, and Ian were coming to visit for the weekend at the cottage. This

a big show out west. I m sure I have told you about not being the most on time person more than

before midnight. I had left early in the day, was now only a few hours from home, and it wasn t

slammed on his brakes. Now I don t know if you guys have ever been on the inside when a car

screeching metal, and then everything just went black.
I m not quite sure how much time passed while I was out, but at some point the revolting taste of

Mobile Phones And Electronics Particularly On Mobile Devices
In this digital age we have a tendency to be extensively dependent on electronics particularly on
mobile devices. There are various mobile electronic devices: laptop, tablet, and cellular phone to
name a few. In the early 1990 s even with the bulkiness students started bringing cellular phones
to school back then. Schools began to place a restriction on the use of mobile phones in the
classroom. Initially, the cell phone was only able to make calls and receive calls. Now, the cell
phone or more commonly named smart phone is the most favorable with students since they are
able to stay connected to a wide variety of social media. For example, Students can access the
Internet, send or receive text messages, check email, and even video chat with others quite
literally from the palm of their hand (Kuznekoff, Titsworth 234). With this in mind, a person is
able to keep their credit card information, bank online, shop online, play games, watch videos, the
list goes on. Students of all ages carry their mobile (smart) phones with them when they go to
school to make phone calls, text message or simply just listen to music. It appears very few
students engaged in modern education today are not equipped with a mobile communication
device. For instance, take a walk through the quad and within 5o feet there is a probability of a
half dozen or more people walking and talking or texting on the cell phone. In fact the smart phone
has a numerous amount of features and applications. Mobile

Internal Security Threat Regarding Employees
Part (i) Threat 1 a)Title: Internal Threats Employee threats b)Description of security threatAn
internal threat concerning employees is a wide ranging issue as it can encompass various
situations. The primary issue stems from an authorized, nontechnical user or a system that can
utilize the system without creating a red flag. (Peltier, 187). c)Justification for inclusion with
emphasis on risk and potential damageThe internal threat is a primary issue as employees,
statically, is the cause of security issues. The information available to the employees can commit
various types of criminal acts from fraud, to insider trading, to breaking international laws. There
can also be issues with disgruntled employees, potentially if the employee is only contracted or
temporary. It is a common practice in large companies, especially international companies, to
outsource and contract work. This can create issues with personnel if a contract is ended in an
unexpected way. There is also an inherent temptation with the information available, especially
considering various white collar crimes. d)Organizational responseAn organizational response
would be to create policies to deter internal attacks, which can be done in multiple ways. The first
method would require creating a training program to educate employees and discourage such
behavior. The second would be to create procedures outlining their different levels of access that
employees can have depending on their job

Bees Vs Honey Bees
When you are stung by a bee for the first time you won t have a severe allergic reaction, even if
you first reaction is mild the reactions get worse with each sting you receive from the bee. Most
bees can sting more than once, but it depends on the type of bee it is. Honey bees for example die
after the first sting they give you. Only female bees and wasp can sting you because venom pumped
from attached venom sacs, is injected into the victim through stylus. When a beeor wasp stings you,
the lancets become imbedded in your skin. They pull the stylus into your flesh and the venom sacs
pump venom through your body. Different kinds of bees live in different habitats. The bumble bee

Peregrine Pickle Analysis
The passage from The Adventures of Peregrine Pickle by Tobias Smollett explores the
overwhelming love of a brother and a lover as well as the other emotions that come with that
love as they fight with words and sword over their love, Emilia. Mr. Pickle is in love with Emilia
and is speaking with Godfrey Gauntlet who is the brother of Emilia. Through the strong dialogue
between characters and the pacing of their battles, time is given to build up stronger characters and
inform us of the deeper emotions connecting the two. Godfrey is the first to speak, with dialogue
starting immediately, demanding of Mr. Pickle what his objective is with his sister. Mr. Pickle
responds with a question regarding why he should tell Mr. Gauntlet, knowing full... Show more

The formal tone used in the words between them creates arrogance and a sarcastic tone,
especially by Mr. Pickle. The use of such words prompts a deeper look at the dialogue and slows
the reader down. The second battle between them has a much faster pacing with many of the
next sentences dealing with the preparation of battle and the taunts by Mr. Godfrey of being an
expert swordsman. It explains that Godfrey would have used pistols which would be potentially
more lethal than swords had Mr. Pickle not made his studies in science. The sword fight ends
shortly after Mr. Godfrey draws first blood and Mr. Pickle becomes overzealous and over thrusts
resulting in the shattered sword and a win for Godfrey. The quick pacing makes it seem as if
there is no match for Godfrey and that a fight with him is not to be taken lightly. However,
Godfrey is a respectful man who will not take a man s life for granted despite his emotions
getting the better of him when speaking with Mr. Pickle. Godfrey exits to leave Peregrine to
reflect and Godfrey to have respect and dignity for another day. The narrative pace really
emphasizes the fact that Mr. Pickle s character is that of a scientist and not that of a sword fighter
while Godfrey is rather adept at fighting. His dialogue is sometimes ended with the word soldier
letting us know background information and his taunt of being an expert sword fighter in the army

The Theory Of Reasoned Action
Following this, (2) The Theory of Reasoned Action (TRA) was developed by both Martin
Fishbein and Icek Ajzen, and it is one of the three classic persuasion models of psychology, and is
also used in communication discourse as a theory of understanding persuasive messages. It explains
the relationship between attitudes and behaviors with human action. This theory is also used to
predict how people will behave based on his/hers pre existing attitudes and behavioral intentions.
The decision to engage in a particular behavioris based on the outcomes the individual expects will
come as a result of performing the behavior. Behavioral intent is allegedly created or caused by two
main factors, which include our attitudes and our subjective norms. Some key constructs for this
theory include; attitude toward the behavior (outcome expectations and value of outcome
expectations), subjective norms (beliefs of others, and desire to comply with others). Last, we have
the (3) Theory of Planned Behavior. The Theory of Planned Behavior, also known as (TPB), is a
concept proposed by Icek Ajzen that link beliefs and behavior. It was added to the Theory of
Reasoned action to address the inadequacies of the existing model. It is one of the most influential
and popular conceptual frameworks for the study of human actions. This theory proposes a model,
which can measure how human actions are guided and details the determinants of an individual s
decision to enact a particular behavior. Attitudes,

around casual sex and bathroom humor, which bend and break existing gendernorms. After
watching just one episode, I was completely hooked. It became a weekly ritual for my
roommates and I. Abbi and Ilana play brilliantly to the younger generation by using a
combination of intelligence, humor, and far out scenarios that provoke thought and laughter. It s
quite possible the most pure female friendship ever depicted on television (Blair 2014). Abbi and
Ilana are not glamorized, hyper sexualized, or pitted against each other, they are just funny, bright
individuals who are invested in their friendship and themselves. Broad City is something
different, it does not hang on to sexual conduct or make men the center of their day to day life,
Abbi and Ilana are supremely focused on their own lives. What makes this show so empowering is
the fact that their sexuality, gender roles, and behavior are universal and genuine. Because Broad
City depicts women in an equal and realistic state, the humor, language, and behavior come
together to create a program that changes gender expectations and provides a more complete and
open view of women s sexuality.

How Does Alison Bechdel Use The Labyrinth In Fun Home
In Fun Home, the author, Alison Bechdel uses Greek myths to allude to her relationship with her
father, Bruce, and the overarching theme of discovering and coping with their sexuality for both
Alison and Bruce. The myth of Daedalus infamous labyrinth was built to imprison the horrible
Minotaur, and the story of his son Icarus s death due to his father s desire to escape his prison.
Throughout the entire graphic novel, Bechdel intertwines references to these myths to reinforce the
turmoil within herself and her father, relating each of them to the mythical characters. The roles are

Or just disappointed by the design failure? (12). Alison assumes that Bruce cares more about
how she dresses, and how his house looks than about her. This leads into the use of the next
myth, the myth of the labyrinth, as it suggests that Bruce plays the role of Daedalus more than
Alison. The most prominent example of this is when Bechdel relates her house and how it s
cared for to Daedalus greatest feat of architecture. Early on Bruce is referenced as the Daedalus
of dГ©cor (6), and performs like Daedalus, with dazzling displays of artfulness (9). When Alison
was a child, she felt herself to be someone trapped in the labyrinth, slowly inching their way
towards death, and impossible to escape (12). As the story moves forward, Alison begins to realize
that she isn t the one stuck in the labyrinth, but it is Bruce himself. He built his mansion in a
similar manner to the labyrinth; it demands fear, intimidation to its attention to detail, and quite
literally the ability to act as a labyrinth (20). In this metaphor as Bruce as Daedalus, that means
Alison plays the Minotaur, as by making Alison act and dress a certain way, and always demanding
the best care for his house, Bruce traps Alison within his greatest

Odysseus Sirens
Aigul Samb Professor Avra Spector Great Works November 31, 2014 The Silence of the Siren
In the short story The Silence of the Sirens , Kafka rewrites the myth of how Odysseus escapes
the sirens in his own distinctive way. The sirens are best known for failing to trick Homer s
Odysseus with their alluring song, but there exist numerous other, occasionally conflicting,
myths concerning them. This ambiguity contributed to various interpretation of physical
appearance and symbolic significance of sirens ever since it was composed by Homer 2800
years ago. It is also another reason it served to be a rich material for Kafka s own brand of
ambiguous and complex fiction. In Homer s work Odysseus took actions that are quite different
than described by Kafka. However, in both stories Odysseus manages to escape the sirens.. The
first element that s worth depicting is perhaps the most obvious: Kafka s sirens are conspicuously
silent. Silence is described here as a weapon far more prevailing than song, and the Kafka adds
that even if it were possible to survive exposure to the song of the sirens, their silence is something
from which no man could possibly escape. The implication is that... Show more content on

The Problem Of Safe Injection Sites
There are many ways in which people who are addicted to intravenous drugs are perceived by
our society. People sometimes believe the addicted person is to blame for their circumstance and
substance dependence and some feel serious drug addicts are a lost cause due to a lack of values
or flawed character. Persons who struggle with addictions often are depicted as criminals or
prostitutes, weak, lazy and morally corrupt (Bartlett, R., Brown, L., Shattell, M., Wright, T.,
Lewallen, L. (2013). These stereotypes paint people with addictionnegatively; a percentage of
people who live with serious addiction are capable of recovery with the right attitude, support
and healthcare. Street level healthcare services such as; safe injection sites, provide accessable
resources at street level for people to make the choice to live healthier lifestyles. Govement
funding and support is needed to make these projects possible to improve the health of Canadians.
Safe injection sites are proven to be positive contributions to communities, save lives, reduce harm
and open doors towards recovery for people from the grip of addiction.
The ethical implications of the Canadian government funding and supporting these projects,
considering current drug laws and policies, are questioned by some. People believe that the
government should not participate in enabling drug use (Globe Mail, (2011) and that zero tolerance
approaches should be taken. In opposition to zero tollerance attitudes some

Vitamin Deficiencies and Psychiatric Illnesses
Deficiencies of vitamins are associated with psychiatric illnesses either by being the primary cause
or an exacerbating factor. Psychiatric symptoms could also lead to poor nutrition. Vitamin
deficiencies may play a role in compromising patient recovery.
Vitamins are organic substances essential for several enzymatic functions.
There are 13 known vitamins which are either fat soluble (4 vitamins i.e. KEDA) or water soluble
(9 vitamins i.e. C, the B group).
Regarding brain function, B vitamins are essential in the maintenance of myelin, neuro transmitter

about this is democratically. Ralph is also smart and diplomatic when he devolves power to his
main competitor, Jack in Jack s in charge of the choir . Ralph asserts his power when he
disallows piggy from going on the scouting trip but he does so reasonably in Now go back,
piggy, and take names. That s your job, so long . Also the scouting adventure was a very good
idea. Ralph is presented positively through the metaphor Ralph s golden body showing he is in
good condition physically and being called golden suggests purity and health. Ralph is also
depicted as a good person in but there was a mildness about his mouth and eyes that proclaimed
no devil this also links with the other religious imagery within the book. The play is ambivalent as

The Law, Morality And Fear Or Threat By Herbert Lionel...
Herbert Lionel Adolphus Hart, was a British Legal Philosopher and worked for University of
Oxford as Professor of Jurisprudence. Prof. Hart has written several books and few of his most
important writings are, Causation of Law 1959, Concept of Law 1961, Law liberty and
Morality 1963, Of Laws in General 1970, and Essays on Bentham 1982. This article focuses on
one of his highly appreciated work, Concept of Law 1961. The book analyses on the law,
morality and fear or threat through which the author is attempting to classify the question as to
whether the law can be conceptualized as the forceful orders or the moral commands. Prof. Hart
is of the opinion that all laws need not be classified as coercive or moral commands, there need
not be any logical connection between the Laws, and morality or between the laws and
coercion. He is of the opinion that by classifying all laws as either moral commands or coercive
orders will be misleading and mischaracterizing the purpose and function for which the law was
originally created. Different laws have different applicability as it is drawn from several sources
and there exists a purpose for which a law will be created. Laws are made to curtail the actions of
man, and to prohibit him from various kinds of actions. These are called duties which a person
has to do as he is bound by the law to do it. In case of breach of this duty, the law imposes a
punishment which a person has to undergo to keep an order in the society. The

Primate Morphology For The Lemur Catta
This paper will discuss primate morphology for the Lemur catta, also known as the ring tailed
lemur, what characterizes them as primates, how they react in their environment, and their social
and adaptive behaviors in that environment. The Lemur catta and it is only found in the island of
Madagascar, as well as off the coast of southeast Africa. In Madagascar, they reside in the
southeastern portion anywhere from sea level, up to 8530 feet high. Their environment consists
mainly of tropical forested area in the proximity of nine forests: Andohahela, Andringitra,
Ankilitelo, Berenty, Beza Mahafaly, Isalo, Tsimanampetsotsa, Tsirave, and Zombitse (Godfrey et al.
1998). According to the National PrimateResearch Center (pin.primate.wisc.edu), they also have a
variety of habitats for example rainforests, spiny bush forests, subalpine, deciduous, and gallery.
However, a lot of their habitat has been affected by constant human contact; agricultural clearing,
deforestation, and burning to produce charcoal. The Lemurcatta need to be able to hide in the
forest and they are not very good at adapting to new environments so they depend a lot on the
forested areas. The southwest part of Madagascar is very prone to droughts and they can have
serious effects on the habitats of ring tailed lemurs and other mammals. I will discuss what makes
the Lemur catta a primate and the primate characteristics that they possess. Then, I will express the
specialized, physical characteristics that they

Any Farming is Good Farming Essay
Any Farming is Good Farming
In the future you will go to the grocery store and pay $15 a pound for Pork, and $20 a pound for
Beef. World hunger outside the United States will be running rampant because of an inadequate
food supply. Houses will start to pop up on all of the United States prime farmland. If we continue to
bash corporate farming, this is the world we would be looking at. Family farms would thrive
because there is little competition. The world as a whole would suffer because the small farms in
the United States could no longer supply the world, let alone its own citizens, with food.
The farming industry as a whole is failing and that is why we see family farms disappearing from
the landscape of America. America has... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The leader of the National Family Farm Coalition, Bill Cristison states, There needs to be a far
greater understanding in this country about the important role of family farmers in providing for our
nations food supply and food security (Christison). The truth is family farms do not produce
enough goods to support the demand in the United States. People can t see that we need
corporate farming and it is a good thing for the national government to support any type of
farming. In my mind, Cristison must not want to support farming at all because he rejects the
2002 Farm Bill. Cristison states, Representative Larry Combest, the House Agriculture
Committee chairman, has said publicly that the winners of this Farm Bill are American farmers.
I strongly disagree. The winners of this farm bill are corporate agribusiness (Christison). This
bill was going to deliver income to farms through the taxpayer. This would make up for losses
that ANY farmer may take. Why would Cristison be against this if he is for farming? Family
farms are getting the money as well. This bill is very fair; if you have a larger farm you will
receive more money. That is how it should work, much like taxes in a sense that you pay based on
the size of your income. This bill was the only logical agreement reached by the national
government on how to help its farmers.
I know exactly what people in this country want to see when they think of agriculture. They want to
see their next door neighbor out on

Explain The Concepts Of Reflection, Refraction, Dispersion...
Introduction
In this experiment four different experiments were performed to explain the concepts of reflection,
refraction, dispersion and Brewster s angle. The purpose of the first experiment is to analyze the
incidence and reflection angle to understand how light reflects off a flat, convex, or concave mirror.
In the second experiment a light ray is passed through a rhombus prism to discover the relationship
between the angle of refraction and incidence. For the third experiment calculations were made to
find indices for the color of light that passed through an acrylic rhomboid. This experiment depicted
dispersion. Finally, the last experiment conducted dealt with the angle reflection and angle of
refraction. Using polarizing lens to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After the mirror had been traced, it was taken off the paper and a line was sketched at the
halfway point. A ruler was used to draw the line outside of the traced mirror. The line was the
normal line. Also, inside the tracing on the line 1.8 cm was measured and labeled. Then a line was
drawn from the point opposite to the concave side and extended outside of the outline. Another line
was sketched with the ruler from the point of opposite to the convex side and extended a few
centimeters past the outline. See Figure A
During, the procedure the first step involved placing the mirror with all three sides to fit into the
outline. The light source was pointed at the side of the flat mirror. There was an incident and
reflection ray both were traced. When the mirror was removed, the lines were measured using a
protractor to retrieve the angle measurements. This process was repeated for the concave and
convex sides. The data is shown in table 1A, 2A, 3A.
Note: The data tables will be included in the Data Analysis section. Figure A
Theory B: Refraction
In the second experiment refraction was observed. Refraction is the bending of a light wave which
changes the speed once it hits another material. The ray of light hitting a fast medium will slow
down. Depending on the indexes of refraction the light will either slow down or travel faster. The
relationship between the indexes of refraction and the way the light bends when passing through a

Militarism Vs. Trump
Introduction
Following a decisive victory against Ted Cruz in the Indiana primaries, reality TV star and real
estates moghul Donald J Trump has secured his position as the presumptive republican nominee.
In his last white house correspondence dinner, Obama jokingly criticized the media for putting
excessive focus on Trump. According to Nick Timiraos (2016) article published in the Wall Street
Journal, Obama said, I want to show some restraint because I think we can all agree from the start
he s gotten the appropriate amount of coverage befitting the seriousness of his candidacy. The guy

The Postmodern Organisation
The postmodern organisation. Introduction The millennial generation is the technologically
savvy people born between 1982 and 2002. This group of people are anticipated to take over
from the infamous Baby Boomers. The millennial generation This generation is best described as
the first to try out new technologies that are on the market. They will usually own more than one
smart phone, an example would be an Iphone, Blackberry or even a Samsung. They don t just
stop at smart phones it also overlaps onto gaming consoles like the Play Station, Nintendo and
Xbox. There is the use of Ipads and life pads in the lives of the Millennial generation, this is
because they there is constant movement and an internet connection is vital. In these devices they
can move around on different interfaces, e.g. being on your smart phone and checking your emails
while you chat on BBM and Facebook multi tasking on all their various social networks. According
to Pew Social Trends 2010 Millennials technological exceptionalism is chronicled throughout the
survey. It s not just their gadgets it s the way they ve fused their social lives into them. Expectations
of the millennial generation The attitudes and behaviours of the millennial generation is that they
are much more tolerant and accepting than the generations before them on a broad spectrum of
issues such as HIV/AIDS, being more open about ones sexuality and being different. Generation Y
is more adaptable to change as well so

Hariharan M, Wheatley TA, and Price JC s Study of...
A study by Hariharan M, Wheatley TA, and Price JC (1997) investigated controlled release on
two kinds of carrageenan, lambda carrageenan (Viscarin GP 209) and iota carrageenan (Gelcarin
GP 379). They analyzed their respective compression capabilities through the use of a Strokes
single punch machine. Yield pressure was calculated at 81.3 Pa for iota carrageenan and 105.2
MPa for lambda carrageenan through the use of Heckel plots out of die tabletdensities. The results
proved linear. Both carrageenan types yielded near zero order profiles in drug release tablet
formulations. The tablet compression pressures had little to no effect on the profiles from 70 to
175 MPa. It was found out that while drug loading increased from 5% to 20%, the exponent of
diffusion decreased from 1.056 to 0.678. From zero order release, the breakup of tablets during
the dissolution and departure were the result of 30% drug loading. To predict the time for 50%
release as a function of the concentration of both types of carrageenan, the researchers used
multiple regression analysis, which was also used for microcrystalline cellulose, a third filler
material used in the setup. They concluded that the observed values and the predicted values of
the research were in good agreement and the R2 for the final cubic model was 0.9984. (Hariharan

Learned Behavior
Learned behavior can often be compared with social learning because they both deal with the
individual being affected by observing their environment. Early theories of learned behavior and
social learning states humans and other organisms can in fact learn new behaviors from others they
encounter in social environments (Escobar, 2008). The Asian Journal of Social Psychology
provides important view into the psychology of Indonesian Islamic terrorism, focusing on the Bali
Bombings of 2002. The Bali Bombings consisted of a car bomb exploding outside the Sari
nightclub in Bali, a popular tourist island in Indonesia. The attack was the worst terrorist incident
in the history of Indonesia, with 202 civilians dead and more than 100 wounded (Pike, 2011).
Two other bombs occurred including a backpack device that a suicide bomber was carrying, and a
much smaller bomb detonated outside the United States. The three brothers from Tengguin
responsible for the bombings are named Ali Ghufron, Amrozi and Ali Imron. Ghufron is the oldest
in the family and served as the role model for his younger brothers. The men responsible for these
terrorist attacks in 2002 were raised in environments that provide socialization processes in which
Islamic values are established as guidelines for daily life, including the family environment
(Kruglanski, 2013). The stories Ali Ghufron s father would tell him as bedtime stories remembers

Conbolism In The Symbols Of The Hamburger Mary s
Hamburger Mary s. According to Mrs. Young (2017), the rainbow can be displayed in the form of
a sticker, tattoo, or flags (Young, personal communications, June 26, 2017). There is also a symbol
of the LGBTQ community that is not as commonly known. Per Mrs. Young (2017), there is a
yellow equal symbol with a blue background (Young, personal communications, June 26, 2017). I
have seen this symbol becoming popular as a bumper sticker on automobiles. Mrs. Young (2017)
also talked about the sexual symbols such as two women and two men, as well as the puns. The
puns can include Gaydar and Born this way slogans (Young, personal communications, June 26,
2017). With artifacts being expressed openly other members of the subculture are aware of the
shared subculture of which they are a part of. When members of the subculture find out about a new
member it does not make them instant friends. According to Mrs. Young (2017), many people that
are not a part of the subculture make the huge misconception that everyone that is in the subculture
knows one another. Furthermore, those that are a part of the subculture make friends the same way
as those outside of the subculture. Just because another person is LGBTQ does not make them
instant friends (Young, personal communications, June 26, 2017). The LGBTQ is an increasingly
known subculture. The members of the subculture not only have their own functions, but they also
make an impact in our Colorado community. I have noticed the impact of the subculture becoming
well known and is still on the rise of recognition.
There are bars, parades, community gatherings, and even restaurants that are available to the
public for those involved in LGBTQ. According to the Hamburger Mary s website (2017),
Hamburger Mary s is a restaurant that is open to the LGBTQ community and the public. This is
currently a Local restaurant located in Denver, Colorado, as well as, sixteen other locations in the
United States (Hamburger Mary s, 2017). The restaurant chain is available in many locations,
making it clear that the LGBTQ subculture is larger than Colorado alone. Furthermore, the
restaurant is open to the public, not just the LGBTQ subculture. When I was at the Denver location

Medical School Should Be A Medical Program
There are thousands universities/colleges in the United States that have a medical school/program.
For those students interested in going into the medical field, deciding on what college to attend
can be very tricky. Students always want to attend the best university out there, but that isn t
always the easiest decision because of certain road blocks. For example, those who live in Arizona
have the chance to go to U of A; there is also the opportunity to go to U of W (University of
Washington). While both schools have a medical program, the University of Washington has more
to offer Arizonian students than the University of Arizona.
When students are looking into the medical school they should attend, they should look into the
school s rank. According to Carleen Eaton, author of Getting into Medical School For Dummies,
one of the factors that students should consider is the medical school rank. After the required years
of undergrad and medical school are complete, students will have to go begin their residency. The
school s ranking can help in that. According to the U.S.News and World Report Education, UW is
ranked #1 Best Medical Schools: Primary Care and #8 Best Medical Schools: Research, while U of
A is ranked #63 Best Medical Schools: Research, and #74 Best Medical Schools: Primary Care .
Eaton says that going to a big name medical school can help when it s time to enter residency, and
UW is named the number one best medical schools: primary care and U of A is

Disaster Preparedness Of The United States
The United States experiences a variety of natural disasters throughout the year. Regardless of the
location of a natural disaster in the United States, a program of disaster preparedness, mitigation,
management, and prevention must be followed. Our community is nestled deep in the
southeastern corner of the United States. The south Florida area is bordered by water to the west,
south, and east. We are tested each year with flooding from torrential downpours, wildfires during
the dry season, and the possibility of hurricane landfall. All three of these hazards have the
potential for creating great damage to property, crippling local everyday life, and possibly causing
loss of life.
Being prepared for a disaster includes all of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
During the summer months, south Florida areas experience heavy rain situation that sometimes
cause widespread flooding in some regions. There are four different types of flooding that can
occur. First type of flooding is flash flooding. Flash flooding occurs when the ground becomes
saturated with water that has fallen too quickly to be absorbed. Flash floods can also occur due
to a dam or levee failure. Second type of flooding is river flooding. River flooding occurs more
in the northern part of the state and near lake Okeechobee. Mostly caused by water runoff and
dumps into lakes and basins to the point of overflow. These types of floods are not very
prevalent in the south Florida area. Next type of flooding is urban flooding. Flooding can be
magnified in urban areas as paved areas lose their ability to absorb rainfall. Urbanization
increases water runoff as much as two to six times over what would occur on natural terrain.
There s also areal flooding, which results in standing water in low lying areas and open fields.
This stagnant water can serve as a breeding ground for insects and disease. These last two types of
floods are the ones that affect the south Florida area most. Flood mapped areas in the south Florida
area have more enhanced drainage to remove the water. Also, extra pump stations setup around
those areas to help pump the water out in case of flooding. Although these areas may still have
some flooding, the risk assessment and mitigation efforts

(state/local level, national level) Neither, there must be balance between local and national government. An example where almost complete power was held at the national level was the British rule of the colonies. Although this rule did lend to economic and political stability (despite falling apart pre revolution), the physical separation of the British national government from the local American government lead to policies that seemed reasonable, but were actually out of touch with the local population. In general, most taxes imposed by the British seemed reasonable to them, as they were necessary to repay debt from the French and Indian war and the cost of soldiers to protect colonists. Despite the fact that these taxes paid for entities benefiting the colonists, they were actually disliked by the colonists. For example, the Sugar Act was passed, which halved the taxes on molasses and started stricter enforcement of the tax was seen as a reasonable compromise by the British, but actually protested by the colonists, due to the economic struggles caused by the seemingly innocuous tax. In December 1917, the Bolsheviks created a new secret police institution (the Cheka) to provide security, encourage class warfare and bring the army under tighter control. An attempt on Lenin s life in August 1918 saw the Cheka take harsh reprisals against all suspected enemies in what became known as the Red Terror . The middle class, former nobility and the clergy were key targets. During the Civil War, the Kadet party was outlawed and its leaders arrested. Russia had become a one party state. The Cheka also killed the Tsar and his family to prevent them being used as a symbolic rallying point for counter revolution. Despite compromising Communist ideology, these ruthless measures were successful in suppressing internal opposition and thus consolidating Bolshevik power. Moving on, Layton then goes over engineeringand its history in America. He then goes on to discuss professionalism. Many engineers have a concern for their social status, and seek to be on par with doctors and lawyers, and to do this, they must show more social responsibility. Layton quickly discusses autonomy, and then goes on to explain the pros of professionalism, and that it prevents engineers from becoming cogs in the industrial machine. • 16. Respiratory Acidosis Case Study Respiratory acidosis is a condition closely related to patients with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD). According to Ranson Pierre, respiratory acidosis is characterized by lab values including an increased amount of carbon dioxide (CO2) in the blood and a lower, more acidic pH level (2016). More specifically, a CO2 value greater than 26 mEq/L and a pH level below 7.35 (Ranson Pierre, 2016). These lab values signify the lungs inability to effectively eliminate the CO2 produced by the body. In turn, this produces more carbonic acid H2CO3, which then increases the acidity of the blood(Wasserman, 2017). The patient that prompted me to research respiratory acidosis was admitted due to an exacerbation of COPD and asthma. This patient s lab results showed an elevated CO2 level of 31 mEq/L. The form of COPD that the patient had was chronic bronchitis. The pathophysiology behind chronic bronchitis is inflammation and constriction of the bronchial tubes making a perfect environment for mucus to accumulate and inhibit breathing (Pietrangelo, 2016). • 22. Descriptive Essay On Destitute Beauty Destitute Beauty In the large city of New York, there are many beautiful people. I am not one of them. I can pass hours away sitting in a coffee shop in a tall seat next to the window, watching the beauties pass, seeing my reflection against them even more bloated and lumpy than normal. Some of them notice me. Most of them don t. It doesn t matter. Like I said, New York is a large city, I ll never see them again. And anyway, I m sure they re used to people staring. How could they not be, they draw people with their large, black rimmed eyes and lean figures and cutting jawbones like dogs to the enticing smell of meat. I am just another dog, one they will forget in moments. And when the sun sets, and the beautiful people fade away and the crowd becomes faceless and intoxicated, that s when I leave, and where I stay until the sun rises, becoming one with the pulse and throb of the mass. Promising myself that the next day, yes, the next day, I ll get a job, ignore the cold, gorgeous people, succeed even with my lumps, and papery skin, and eyes that are just a little too far apart. And the next day, with my headache, I return. Today is yesterday and the day before. The sun is especially bright now, almost passive aggressively bright, shining smugly through the haze that buries the city, bouncing into the small cafe in which I spend most of my time. It s supposed to be homey, with nearly dead plants hanging skeletal by the windows and overstuffed couches near a coffee table. I sit in the uncomfortable seat that s almost comically tall, at the only table next to a window. The barista Ellen is chatting happily with a customer, she barely notices me anymore. Which is fine by me. A woman, with long legs and hollows under her cheekbones, struts past the cafГ©, a mere foot away from me. She doesn t notice my stare. It s a funny thing. People talk all they want about feeling when people stare at them, getting goosebumps and looking around frantically for their admirer. But either it isn t true, or I m not important enough for my stare to mean anything, hold any weight. • 23. General Characteristics Of Antimicrobials And Therapeutic... General Characteristics of Antimicrobials The usefulness of antimicrobials can be measured using the therapeutic index. The therapeutic index is the ratio of the highest dose of the drug that is not toxic to the patient to the amount of drug required to produce the desired effect. A high therapeutic index indicates a drug will be well tolerated by most people, but a low therapeutic index means a patient being treated with the drug should be carefully monitored for adverse effects. Antimicrobials are designed to have as large a therapeutic index as possible, often by exploiting differences between human and bacterial cells, such as the presence of a cell wall in some bacteria but in no human cells. This concept can also be described as selective toxicity meaning the drug kills or inhibits the microbes while damaging host cells as little as possible. Antimicrobials can most broadly be described as either bactericidal or bacteriostatic. Bactericidal agents cause disruption and death of microbial cells. The drugs generally act on the bacterial cell wall, cell membrane, or DNA. Bacteriostatic substances only stop the bacterium from replicating without killing it and typically affect the microbe s ability to synthesize proteins. Finally, antimicrobials are often labeled as either narrow spectrum or broad spectrum. Broad spectrum drugs are effective against a wide range of pathogens and can sometimes be used to treat infections that have not been definitely diagnosed. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Theory Of Reasoned Action Following this, (2) The Theory of Reasoned Action (TRA) was developed by both Martin Fishbein and Icek Ajzen, and it is one of the three classic persuasion models of psychology, and is also used in communication discourse as a theory of understanding persuasive messages. It explains the relationship between attitudes and behaviors with human action. This theory is also used to predict how people will behave based on his/hers pre existing attitudes and behavioral intentions. The decision to engage in a particular behavioris based on the outcomes the individual expects will come as a result of performing the behavior. Behavioral intent is allegedly created or caused by two main factors, which include our attitudes and our subjective norms. Some key constructs for this theory include; attitude toward the behavior (outcome expectations and value of outcome expectations), subjective norms (beliefs of others, and desire to comply with others). Last, we have the (3) Theory of Planned Behavior. The Theory of Planned Behavior, also known as (TPB), is a concept proposed by Icek Ajzen that link beliefs and behavior. The most prominent example of this is when Bechdel relates her house and how it s cared for to Daedalus greatest feat of architecture. The sirens are best known for failing to trick Homer s Odysseus with their alluring song, but there exist numerous other, occasionally conflicting, myths concerning them. This ambiguity contributed to various interpretation of physical appearance and symbolic significance of sirens ever since it was composed by Homer 2800 years ago. In Homer s work Odysseus took actions that are quite different than described by Kafka. However, in both stories Odysseus manages to escape the sirens.. The first element that s worth depicting is perhaps the most obvious: Kafka s sirens are conspicuously silent. How successfully does Golding convey the positive and negative aspects of the island and mans impact on it? During chapter 1 Golding portrays the island and mans impact on it in both positive and negative ways. He also uses many literary devices when showing these aspects. The first positive image is shown when ralph describes the granite as being Like icing on a pink cake the colour pink in this similie presents beauty and happiness and icing reinforces the happiness. However this could be interpreted negatively as the hunger of the boys at this time. Prof. Hart has written several books and few of his most important writings are, Causation of Law 1959, Concept of Law 1961, Law liberty and Morality 1963, Of Laws in General 1970, and Essays on Bentham 1982. This article focuses on one of his highly appreciated work, Concept of Law 1961. The book analyses on the law, morality and fear or threat through which the author is attempting to classify the question as to whether the law can be conceptualized as the forceful orders or the moral commands. Prof. Hart is of the opinion that all laws need not be classified as coercive or moral commands, there need not be any logical connection between the Laws, and morality or between the laws and coercion. He is of the opinion that by classifying all laws as either moral commands or coercive orders will be misleading and mischaracterizing the purpose and function for which the law was originally created. Different laws have different applicability as it is drawn from several sources and there exists a purpose for which a law will be created. Laws are made to curtail the actions of man, and to prohibit him from various kinds of actions. These are called duties which a person has to do as he is bound by the law to do it. In case of breach of this duty, the law imposes a punishment which a person has to undergo to keep an order in the society. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 43. Primate Morphology For The Lemur Catta This paper will discuss primate morphology for the Lemur catta, also known as the ring tailed lemur, what characterizes them as primates, how they react in their environment, and their social and adaptive behaviors in that environment. The Lemur catta and it is only found in the island of Madagascar, as well as off the coast of southeast Africa. In Madagascar, they reside in the southeastern portion anywhere from sea level, up to 8530 feet high. Their environment consists mainly of tropical forested area in the proximity of nine forests: Andohahela, Andringitra, Ankilitelo, Berenty, Beza Mahafaly, Isalo, Tsimanampetsotsa, Tsirave, and Zombitse (Godfrey et al. 1998). According to the National PrimateResearch Center (pin.primate.wisc.edu), they also have a variety of habitats for example rainforests, spiny bush forests, subalpine, deciduous, and gallery. However, a lot of their habitat has been affected by constant human contact; agricultural clearing, deforestation, and burning to produce charcoal. The Lemurcatta need to be able to hide in the forest and they are not very good at adapting to new environments so they depend a lot on the forested areas. The southwest part of Madagascar is very prone to droughts and they can have serious effects on the habitats of ring tailed lemurs and other mammals. I will discuss what makes the Lemur catta a primate and the primate characteristics that they possess. Then, I will express the specialized, physical characteristics that they ... World hunger outside the United States will be running rampant because of an inadequate food supply. Houses will start to pop up on all of the United States prime farmland. If we continue to bash corporate farming, this is the world we would be looking at. Family farms would thrive because there is little competition. The world as a whole would suffer because the small farms in the United States could no longer supply the world, let alone its own citizens, with food. The farming industry as a whole is failing and that is why we see family farms disappearing from the landscape of America. America has... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The truth is family farms do not produce enough goods to support the demand in the United States. People can t see that we need corporate farming and it is a good thing for the national government to support any type of farming. In my mind, Cristison must not want to support farming at all because he rejects the 2002 Farm Bill. Cristison states, Representative Larry Combest, the House Agriculture Committee chairman, has said publicly that the winners of this Farm Bill are American farmers. I strongly disagree. The winners of this farm bill are corporate agribusiness (Christison). This bill was going to deliver income to farms through the taxpayer. This would make up for losses that ANY farmer may take. Why would Cristison be against this if he is for farming? Family farms are getting the money as well. This bill is very fair; if you have a larger farm you will receive more money. That is how it should work, much like taxes in a sense that you pay based on the size of your income. This bill was the only logical agreement reached by the national government on how to help its farmers. I know exactly what people in this country want to see when they think of agriculture. Introduction In this experiment four different experiments were performed to explain the concepts of reflection, refraction, dispersion and Brewster s angle. The purpose of the first experiment is to analyze the incidence and reflection angle to understand how light reflects off a flat, convex, or concave mirror. In the second experiment a light ray is passed through a rhombus prism to discover the relationship between the angle of refraction and incidence. For the third experiment calculations were made to find indices for the color of light that passed through an acrylic rhomboid. This experiment depicted dispersion. Finally, the last experiment conducted dealt with the angle reflection and angle of refraction. Using polarizing lens to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... After the mirror had been traced, it was taken off the paper and a line was sketched at the halfway point. A ruler was used to draw the line outside of the traced mirror. The line was the normal line. Also, inside the tracing on the line 1.8 cm was measured and labeled. Then a line was drawn from the point opposite to the concave side and extended outside of the outline. Another line was sketched with the ruler from the point of opposite to the convex side and extended a few centimeters past the outline. See Figure A During, the procedure the first step involved placing the mirror with all three sides to fit into the outline. The light source was pointed at the side of the flat mirror. There was an incident and reflection ray both were traced. When the mirror was removed, the lines were measured using a protractor to retrieve the angle measurements. This process was repeated for the concave and convex sides. The data is shown in table 1A, 2A, 3A. Note: The data tables will be included in the Data Analysis section. Figure A Theory B: Refraction In the second experiment refraction was observed. Refraction is the bending of a light wave which changes the speed once it hits another material. The ray of light hitting a fast medium will slow down. Depending on the indexes of refraction the light will either slow down or travel faster. A study by Hariharan M, Wheatley TA, and Price JC (1997) investigated controlled release on two kinds of carrageenan, lambda carrageenan (Viscarin GP 209) and iota carrageenan (Gelcarin GP 379). They analyzed their respective compression capabilities through the use of a Strokes single punch machine. Yield pressure was calculated at 81.3 Pa for iota carrageenan and 105.2 MPa for lambda carrageenan through the use of Heckel plots out of die tabletdensities. The results proved linear. Both carrageenan types yielded near zero order profiles in drug release tablet formulations. The tablet compression pressures had little to no effect on the profiles from 70 to 175 MPa. It was found out that while drug loading increased from 5% to 20%, the exponent of diffusion decreased from 1.056 to 0.678. From zero order release, the breakup of tablets during the dissolution and departure were the result of 30% drug loading. To predict the time for 50% release as a function of the concentration of both types of carrageenan, the researchers used multiple regression analysis, which was also used for microcrystalline cellulose, a third filler material used in the setup. They concluded that the observed values and the predicted values of the research were in good agreement and the R2 for the final cubic model was 0.9984. (Hariharan M, Wheatley TA, Price JC., 1997) B. Early theories of learned behavior and social learning states humans and other organisms can in fact learn new behaviors from others they encounter in social environments (Escobar, 2008). The Asian Journal of Social Psychology provides important view into the psychology of Indonesian Islamic terrorism, focusing on the Bali Bombings of 2002. The Bali Bombings consisted of a car bomb exploding outside the Sari nightclub in Bali, a popular tourist island in Indonesia. The attack was the worst terrorist incident in the history of Indonesia, with 202 civilians dead and more than 100 wounded (Pike, 2011). While both schools have a medical program, the University of Washington has more to offer Arizonian students than the University of Arizona. When students are looking into the medical school they should attend, they should look into the school s rank. During the summer months, south Florida areas experience heavy rain situation that sometimes cause widespread flooding in some regions. There are four different types of flooding that can occur. First type of flooding is flash flooding. Flash flooding occurs when the ground becomes saturated with water that has fallen too quickly to be absorbed. Flash floods can also occur due to a dam or levee failure. Second type of flooding is river flooding. River flooding occurs more in the northern part of the state and near lake Okeechobee. Mostly caused by water runoff and dumps into lakes and basins to the point of overflow. These types of floods are not very prevalent in the south Florida area. Next type of flooding is urban flooding. Flooding can be magnified in urban areas as paved areas lose their ability to absorb rainfall. Urbanization increases water runoff as much as two to six times over what would occur on natural terrain. There s also areal flooding, which results in standing water in low lying areas and open fields. This stagnant water can serve as a breeding ground for insects and disease. These last two types of floods are the ones that affect the south Florida area most. Flood mapped areas in the south Florida area have more enhanced drainage to remove the water.
