Holocaust is one of these catastrophes that have left survivors with a sense of guilt. A study done by
Gertrude Schneider upon 50 Holocaust survivors demonstrated that some but not all had a sense of
survivors guilt (Schneider, 1975). Fourteen of the interviewed victims admitted that they felt bad for
being passive victims and that they would have preferred to have died honorably (Schneider, 1975).
Others said that there was no way that they could have fought back and prevent them from going
through that horrible experience of being in the camps (Schneider, 1975).

My Love Of Education
Many people are on their own route towards what they consider receiving or claiming an education.
Whether it be a formal or informal education, we all approach obstacles that keep us away from a
direction we may have our mind or even our heart set on. In this essay, I will describe my experiences
in which my education has brought me close to losing my temper and self confidence.
I used to groom the knots of her black and white coat that would pile up on her belly. But, one day, I
remember coming across a ball like lump under her skin. I moved it around to see if it bothered her,
but she just lay there with her belly up, waiting for me to finish. The next morning, my dad and I took
her to the vet and found out they were benign tumors, but should be removed before they could turn
into something more serious. My family struggled to find the funds to remove the lumps. My love for
animals, and particularly for my dog, Lyn Yang, quickly turned into dreams of being able to remove
the lumps myself. But at that point, I was helpless. I thought, maybe one day, I d be a veterinarian and
able to rid animals of their problems.
That was the beginning of the dream.
Growing up, I mostly stuck by my parents and they didn t stimulate my interest in animals. Even with
all the time we spent at the vet, I never thought to speak to a veterinarian. What did I know about job
shadowing? I now realize the importance of having real life role models, and someone to speak to
about my goals and aspirations. It s like Sonia Sotomayor said, When a young person, even a gifted
one, grows up without proximate living examples of what she may aspire to become, her goal remains
abstract.
In those days, in my environment, my dream to become a veterinarian gradually diminished. So much
diminished during my teenage years. I found my mind shrinking. I could feel my dream getting
smaller and smaller. Instead of choosing a profession that could drive me, I let me community drive
me instead and it got the best of me.

1. Discuss the seeming failure of communism and other forms of socialism and the apparent triumph
of capitalism in the 1990s, as well as considering capitalism s possible benefits and debits in the early
twenty first century.
Capitalism and Communism have both been put forth as the best models for modern enlightened
societies. Each philosophy contains both desirable and undesirable elements within its framework.
Communism is based on a firm belief that fiscal and social equality is the path to an ideal utopian
society. Capitalism is based on the principle of individuality, and the exercise of individual rights,
freedom, and the liberty to pursue advancement in a competitive free market. Each has shown its
strengths and weaknesses. Over the course of time however only one has emerged successfully in the
early 21st century, though not without its own egregious faults.
Communism has its roots in the philosophy of Marx and Engels. In their Communist Manifesto
published in 1848, they laid out the principles of communist society. In Communist society, no private
ownership of property is allowed. Property should be shared among the people and likewise the
economy. Through economic and social equality, the hope was that individuals would work for the
common good of society, and leave the desire for advancement, power and authority behind. Ideal

In December of 1954, the first human organ transplant was performed in the United States between
identical twin brothers. In the past sixty years, organ transplantation has become the gold standard in
the treatment of organ failure from a number of underlying causes with dramatic improvements to

late 1980 s, one of the biggest advancements was the use of cadaver organs. Organ rejection was the

drugs like cyclosporine. The practice of utilizing immunosuppressive drugs has led to a decrease of
transplant failure rejection of a new organ by the recipient s own immune system (Kaserman, 2007).
As research continues to look for new ways to decrease organ rejection rates, the majority of
recipients take immunosuppressive drugs and will need to do so indefinitely (Ehlers, 2002). Kaserman
states that as the transplant industry grew, a need for guidelines became apparent and hence requested
that Congress create a governing body (2007). In response, the United States government created the
current system in 1984 which has been revised several times. The system is governed by the National

bad. At first the girl is detested by the frog,but is still forced to honor her promise by her father. She
still despises the frog until she either kisses him or is thrown against the wall,depending on the
version, and changes into a handsome prince. This just goes to show forced marriages can still turn out
good and it isn t as bad as it first seems. I also believe the gold ball could further symbolize arranged
marriage. Gold is often a color that is associated with wealth and the girl looses her favorite toy which
is the golden ball. I believe in some situations this could show how her family lost their wealth and is
marrying the daughter off to a frog king to get it back. Similar to how the frog retrieves her golden
ball, he returns the wealth to her/ her family. The gold ball could also symbolize a couple other things.
Gold is used to make jewelry and other valuable things, but nots in it raw form. The young immature
princess hasn t been shaped into a person yet, similar to the unshaped gold ball. She is without her
own morals or ideas, she promises to the frog she will let him sleep with her and is more than willing

The evolution of technology has become indescribable. Technology is prevalent in our society, as well
as its portrayal in the media, a seemingly essential aspect of our everyday lives. Although many
idolize how technology has improved our lives, many fail to recognize technology s faults. By using
three persuasive literary devices (pathos, logos, and ethos), Neil Postman expresses his concern for
technological advancement and possible failure in the book Amusing Ourselves to Death. Logos
appeals to logic; when using a persuasive device such as logos, you are using logical reasoning to
appeal to the reader. When using logos, you must include facts, statistics, and citing credible sources.
By using ethos, the author conveys his ideas while being well aware of what he is talking about by
utilizing credible sources. Pathos, however, conveys the author s ideas by appealing to the reader s
emotions. Postman does an outstanding job of orchestrating a piece using the most popular persuasive
elements. Postman was able to incorporate all three of these devices into his book, but the most
prominent one in my opinion, and that helps to best convey Postman s point, is logos; statistics and
facts are two things you very rarely can fight against. Over and over Postman uses facts on how the
media is basically dumbing us down. For example, Postman pointed out that with the rise of the
televised age there was then a decrease in literacy.

Through semiotic analysis, signifiers, myths and paradigmatic analysis an interpretation of a car
insurance ad by the VHV holding company can be made on many levels. VHV Holding, a German car

Prison gangs, not much unlike street gangs; a social entity devised to bring a sense of belonging, a
sense of brotherhood. Prison gangs are found all over the world, consisting mostly of males with the
majority of prison gangs made up of Caucasians. Although, the Latino gang population is steadily
increasing. To help us understand prison gangs, we take a look at Robert Agnew s theory called
General Strain theory, in which an individual commits a crime or violence based off of 3 main
sources: 1), an individual is stopped from reaching a goal, 2), something an individual possesses or
valued is removed or threatened, 3), or something negative or unwanted is imposed on an individual
(Alvarez Bachman, 2017). Using this theory, we will dive in to understanding what has helped the

The first known American prison gang was the Gypsy Jokers formed in the 1950s in Washington state
prisons (Fleisher Decker, 2001). These gangs have gained national attention for their violence, drug
activity, rape and even murder. Membership is derived from either past association with current gang
members or by general acceptance of current gang values (CJ institute, 1985). With the Aryan
brotherhood, specifically, the members are inducted in through the murder of another individual.

The Mesozoic Era began around 250 million years ago and ended 65 million years ago. It is divided

During the Late Triassic period they reached their highest diversity, they became more advanced and
specalized, making them one of the top Marine predators. Ichthyosaurs over time evolved to have
streamlined, fish shaped bodies and large heads. They also evolved to have thicker bodies and a
thicker backbone which meant they swam more with a convergent motion (Callway, 1997). They had
the largest eyeballs (up to 264mm in diameter), of all vertebrates which were supported by a ring of
sclerotic bones, these eyes were adapted to help them find prey in low light environments (Motani,
2009). Ichthyosaurus also had large ear bones, scientists believe this was an adaptation that allowed

Some people believe it is right to keep and some believe they should get rid of it immediately. While

more likely to be diagnosed with depression; the prevalence of dysthymia and minor depression in
older adults is often under diagnosed; and lower treatment rates are seen among ethnic minorities

As a student of United States history, I have learned new information concerning certain subject
matters. My prior knowledge of US history about these certain topics, such as, indentured servants and
the institution of slavery was minimal. The reason for this is most of my prior knowledge of these
important topics were forgotten. The question I always asked myself what was the difference between
indentured servants and African slaves? Through my personal studying on the subject matter, I have
discovered new information that clarified all my misconceptions about historical topics like,
indentured servants from Europe, African slavery, and finding the similarities and differences of these
two types of labor.
During the 1600s Europe was absorbed in the Thirty Year s War, which depressed the economy at the
time. Many young males skilled and unskilled were looking for work. These young men had hoped
that there might be some prosperity in the New World. These young teenage men were eager for a
grand opportunity in Virginia. However, these new young immigrants coming over to the American
colonies would be considered as indentured servants. In the textbook, American Stories A History of
the United States mentions that, In exchange for transportation across the Atlantic, they agreed to
