Ethical Issues In The Goodfellas
The Goodfellas movie is a movie about the life of a gangster growing up in the New York Mafia.
A young man name Henry, ever since he was a young boy always wanted to be in the Mafia.
Henry grew up on the streets with the Mafia wanting to be like them because no would ever mess
with them and they could park wherever they wanted and not get a ticket. The movie itselfs had
showed the mafias subculture and shows all their norms, values, and also their deviant lifestyle
throughout the movie. The people around and in the Mafiaare part of a subculture where there are
certain people who are considered criminals and can protect anyone that can t or is not allowed
to go to the cops to snitch. The Mafia is based on grounds that any member suffering injustice
was forced to take personal vengeance while having no contact with the police. And now a days
the American Mafia gangs had its own territory to run and any people from other gangs or anyone
outside of the territory would be killed if they messed with the family. Many of the mores or norms
of the Mafia were seen throughout the movie. Some of the rules that were not written but everyone
just assumed you knew in the mafia were trust and silence. In other words, if you got caught while

When is comes to family, there is no social value placed when you have earnings from week to
week paychecks for their hard work. Significant amount of social value was only given to the
member of the mafia who had the status both socially and in their family to do and take whatever
they wanted.
This social value was labeled by the celebrity significance, neighborhood and businessmen around
their areas that gave them that label. Other symbols were the expensive jewelry worn by the
families and mainly wives and the expensive clothes and big cars the men would

Advantage And Disadvantage Of Facebook
Abstract
In this paper, I will synthesize 3 articles that I got from Indonesia, Thailand and Turkey. 3 of them
are talking about Facebook used as Blended Learning tools. They have their own purposes but still
having the save theme. The respondents in their studies are university students. Students are giving
their opinion regarding Blended Learning and Facebook. Turkish IT students preferred direct
online environment instead, since they think Facebook is for communication. Indonesian English
students think that using Facebook as Blended Learning is as good as face to face Blended
Learning. Facebook is improving Thailand s English writing skill, makes Facebook is a suitable
tool for Blended Learning.
Introduction
Nowadays, most people are using technology when they do their work. Even technology is used by
many University Lecturer as their learning tools. Studies have been done dig up the advantages and
disadvantages about the system of online learning that used by many higher institution (Pohl, 2004;
Markovic, 2010). Facebook is one of the most famous social media that used by lecturer to keep in
touch with their students regarding lectures. Usually they will make groups among the students in
their class. For example, in Multimedia University, the lecturer of subject that called University
Learning Technique using Facebook group as learning tool where the lecturer as the instructor of
the group can upload the lecture notes and make students easier to get the notes. Student can even

Wild Parsnip Research Paper
Alex Darcovich 16/01/16 SVN3M OUTLINE The 2016 Wild Parsnip strategy includes
eradication via digging, biological stabilizers and/or herbicides, containment via a structural
system, tarps and warning signs and supervision via scheduled mowing and signs notifying
people to look out for the plants, all for the goal of total eradication of the species from this area.
CURRENT SITUATION The plant species, Wild Parsnip (Pastinaca sativa), has been seen
growing rapidly across many places in and around the city of Ottawa, its outskirts and nearby
towns. In the Old Ottawa South, there are numerous wild parsnip plants around the Brewer Park
Pond Area, and it has only just recently caught everyone s attention, having spread to this area in
the spring... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The phototoxicity is all thanks to their furanocoumarins, the toxic organic chemicals produced
as a mechanism of defense against herbivores. If the sap of the parsnip comes into contact with
the skin of living things, it will cause a disease called phytophotodermatitis. Symptoms of
phytophotodermatitis include: Scars from Chemical Burns Blisters Stinging and Itching pains
Hyperpigmentation (darkening of the skin and nails due to an increased presence of melanin)
Several citizens of eastern Ontario have recalled incidents where they had been affected by the
wild parsnip. Some were fortunate and got away with little damage, but some had to face harsh
consequences. One example included an 11 year old boy named Jacob Salter. He was riding his
bicycle on a trail in the Greenwood Conservation area in Pickering but accidentally fell off and
landed into a parsnip bush. The aftermath of that incident was a leg covered in large red blisters
and painful rashes. He was lucky, as he managed to get to the doctor quickly enough to get his leg
treated with topical cream, that would leave nothing but a

Explain the influences of two predictable and two unpredictable major life events on the
development of an individual
In this part of my assignment I will be looking at how both predictable and unpredictable major life
events can have an effect on a person s development.
Predictable A child starting school
*I spoke to a person who found the transition from Primary to Secondary school very difficult*
Physically Due to the difficulty she found adjusting to the new school, she began to eat less and
less, started making herself sick and began to suffer from panic attacks. These things didn t help
the stress of changing schools because she felt ill and weak and couldn t function while trying to
complete simple tasks.

Unpredictable Serious Injury
*I spoke to someone who damaged their knee*
Physical Whilst playing netball, this girl fell over, this was because he knee had dislocated.
Before this happened she would play any sport she could and was very active. The damage to her
knee meant she had to have a lot of operations to attempt to fix the problem. This is an on going
problem, she has difficulty walking and cannot use stairs, and because she cannot do much exercise
she has gained a lot of weight.
Intellectual As this problem had and still does affect her mobility she had to leave college as it
was on two different campuses. This meant she didn t get the qualifications she was expected to
leave with. This has contributed to the fact she cannot find work because she hasn t got the basic
skills others have who had finished their course at college. As she spent a lot of time at home she
took up doing art, which she had never really tried before, and now some of her designs are being
used in tattoo parlours, and she hopes to one day, train to be a tattoo artist.
Emotional unfortunately she began to develop a low confidence because of her weight gain, she
started to feel depressed because of all the time she had to spend at the hospital, for operations,
check ups

China s Economy And Its Impact On The Economy Essay
With the one of the fastest growing economies in the world, China s increased consumer spending,
rising incomes, with unique demographics and an increasingly open business huge population of
1.3 billion not only creates a massive internal consumer market environment that have all helped to
make the Chinese market increasingly attractive to international businesses across a variety of
industries. China is distinct from other developing markets in a number of important ways, all of
which have strong ramifications for marketers. To begin with, China s economy is far more
diverse,. China s superior infrastructure over other developing countries has significant implications
for marketers in terms of establishing routes to market. Consequently, China is now often seen as
the most lucrative opportunity in the developing world. The country is no longer just viewed as a
low cost manufacturing base, but also increasingly as a lucrative market with a receptive audience
of customers. As such, companies are now under growing pressure not only to better understand
Chinese buyers, but also to successfully navigate the many barriers and potential risks when trying
to find a route into the China market. Breaking into the China market successfully can seem like an
almost impossible task to foreign companies with limited or no experience of doing business there.
Some of the key challenges that foreign companies face when entering the China market for the
first time are many in number as it

Cosmetic Surgery is a Worldwide Epidemic Essay
Everywhere you look; from billboards to TV the effects of plastic surgery have left its mark. In
fact, a couple of weeks ago, a famous music icon passed, and for a whole week all the media did
was talk about the plastic surgery done to his face. These days people are having rhinoplasty,
liposuction, tummy tucks, face lifts, and most commonly breast augmentation. Science is making it
easier to change the appearance of ones self. This brings me to believe, cosmetic surgery is an
epidemic that has affected the whole world.
A while back on a popular morning show, the host was interviewing a guest star. Then the host
brings up that the guest star has had a breast augmentation. Then the guest star looks at him, and
says, Everybody s doing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Adults with big money have been the ones affected the most with these celebrity trends. However,
teenager girls have been affected more than they should. Instead of a parent telling the teenager
they look beautiful, no matter how many minor imperfections they have. Most parents are
shockingly giving their teenagers liposuction as birthday presents. Instead of loosing weight in a
healthy way with diet and exercise, these teens are going under anesthesia. Most teenagers after the
surgery have scars left on their body, which never heal. In today s world, many people are confused
about their gender. This has led numerous people to plastic surgery. A countless number of them
feel the only way to truly be themselves is through getting a sex transformation. Even though
many of them get the surgery on the down low, the effects from the surgery eventually come to
light. On the Jerry Springer show, a number of episodes involved the audience guessing what the
gender of the person was before they underwent surgery. It s sad to say, that the majority of the
women on the show were originally men. The expenses of buying a whole new lifestyle, the
emotional drainage they are likely to face, and the periods of physical pain in hormonal change all
are factors they deal with after plastic surgery. Whether broadcasted through media or magazines
plastic surgery interest everyone, I truly believe Hollywood is addicted to it. I believe that the

Evidence Based Practice ( Ebp ) Process ( Cowell ) Essay
Literature reviews provide adequate supporting evidence for the evidence based practice (EBP)
process (Cowell, 2016). By using the information obtained from the literature review, that
supports the topic, one can evaluate a situation and arrive at the problem that needs a solution.
Therefore, an appropriate technique is necessary when searching for the right literature and
evidence (Cowell, 2016). Search Method The literature search helps to identify and retrieve
studies to find out information about a topic, detect the need for further study and develop new
guidelines (Auston, Cahn, Selden, 2016). The resources that could provide the evidence are
available in many databases. The databases used for the literature support for the problem and
the proposed solution of this EBP project are: CINAHAL Ovid CENTRAL Science Direct
MEDLINE British Library Documents EMBASE PubMed The following are the keywords used:
Surgical Site Infection (SSI) Surgical Site Infection Prevention Diabetes Hyperglycemia Blood
glucose Complications of surgery. To select the right articles from the whole group, I used the
criteria to find the information that supported the topic. Then, included those in the EBP project
and excluded the remaining ones. For example, I have included those articles that were about the
effects of hyperglycemia of diabetic patients in the development of SSI in the project and rejected
the rest. From about 75 articles obtained from the search, about five were appropriate

Say Yes Essay
The Effects of Symbols On Say Yes The author of the short story Say Yes, Tobias Wolff, uses a
number of symbols to express his different views on racism throughout the story. Wolff uses this
literary device to express a message to his readers. Symbols, something representing something else
by association resemblance or convention, are used efficiently in this short story.
Wolff uses colors to symbolize a hatred for an alternative racein this short story. The husband
more than once makes reference to dark colors which shows the reader that the husband sees this
world in black and white. The husband sees the world as good vs. evil, white vs. black society.
Furthermore, the reference to color in the short story Say Yes ,... Show more content on

The cut she had from the silverware symbolizes the hurt on the inside. The pain from inside was
symbolizing the pain on the inside. Her husband s inconsiderate feelings for alternate races
made her feel like she didn t know him as well as she thought she did. Wolff used symbolization
very effectively by comparing the pain on the outside to the pain on the inside. Wolff s decision
to put in this description of dirty water was not because Wolff hates washing dishes. Wolff put
that in there to show a deeper meaning to it. Wolff is trying to show the husband s views on the
topic being discussed indirectly. Wolff shows a deeper meaning when the husband is continuing
to wash the dishes. He is spraying the silverware and darkened to pale blue (Wolff 518). This
shows again the husband s reference to colors. This happened right after the wife asked if he
would marry her if she were black. Wolff added this symbolism right after the question to
indirectly show the husbands feelings toward the topic. He shows his dislike for African
Americans when he refused to answer the question. Wolff uses colors to show his negative feelings
towards interracial relationships. This symbolization helps contribute to his theme of the husband s
strong dislike for African Americans. Wolff uses excellent symbols to express his message or
theme. Short stories form is compressed where each word is carefully

Just A Normal Football Fan
Just a Normal Football Fan There is a variety of professional sports in the world today. People
from all over have come to enjoy watching athletes compete. The fans of these sports all love, cheer
and support their respected teams. Even so, there is diversity among sports fans. Sports fans usually
exhibit distinct behaviors that separate them from others. By examining the behaviors of a sports fan
, a person can categorize the different types of fans. Footballfans can be classified into the
following categories, the Bandwangoners, the Agents, the Coaches, the Followers, the
Teachers, and the Opportunists. The Bandwagoners are sports fans who will pick a team and
drop them in an instant. A Bandwagoner will cling to a sports team that has recently won a big
game or several in a row or even won a championship. In fact, the person probably became a fan
of the team just a couple of days ago. The Bandwagoner claims to know most of the players on
the team and their positions, when in fact he or she usually knows on one or two of the players.
These fans have all the sudden become diehard fans of the team and support the team one hundred
percent. They are so committed to the team that once the team loses they jump ship and go looking
for the next hot team that is apparently championship bound. The Bandwagon fan is one that does
not get shackled down by commitment and is always a fan of the that is on top. The Agent, aka.

Insomnia With Short Sleep Duration And Mortality Essay
This paper will explore the study into and the results of a study into any possible connection
between insomnia with short sleep duration and mortality. The purpose of this paper is to bring
forth a better understanding of why this study was implemented and the benefits, if any, of the
results stemming from the study. We will focus on the study itself and of its participants. We will
also be providing thoughts on the study s conclusions and of any ramifications that may arise
moving forward, that this study provides. The methods that were used by the researchers were
simple in theory and in application. Bring together a group of participants, one thousand seven
hundred and forty one to be precise. Study their sleep patterns for a single night and then follow up
on said participants throughout a fourteen year span. The researchers would attempt to discover any
and all links between insomniawith short sleep duration and mortality in men and women with their
findings. In doing so, the researchers had hoped that their work would lead to a better
understanding of the necessity for the treatment of insomnia, and the need for further studies within
this field. These researchers concluded that there is a link between insomnia with short sleep
duration with mortality in men, although they were not as successful in finding a similar clear link
in women.

Dirt Bike Speech
Would you ever ride a dirt bike. Would you enter in a race and try to beat either other opponents
or friends or family. If so you need speed, power, agility and equipment. You could ride at duns in
the desert or trails and tracks with friends or family, but the biggest thing is trying to find a dirt
bike either online at a shop or a from someone. They have different bikes and many different
prices either new or used. They have honda s, husqvarna s, kawasaki s, ktm s and many more.
The prices are new are around 2,000 8,000 for used dirt bikes are around 500 1,500 either in
stores or from someone. You just have to get a good running dirt bike and good tires and
sprocket . You can ride at tracks down the hill or up in the high desert. In the high desert they
have honda valley and to silverwood dame. At honda valley they have huge jumps that looks like
no one could land it because it shoots you super far which means you have to go fast. Going to

The Future Electric Cars Are Becoming More Popular

With the advancing future electric cars are becoming more popular. Electric cars are said to be
pollution free and one hundred percent environmental friendly. These cars are not the solution to
reduce air pollution and global warming in the near future. Electric cars create large amounts of
pollution indirectly. This is from the coal fired power plants used to generate the electricity and the
lithium mine sites, which is where the mineral lithium that is used to produce the car s batteries
comes from. These situations cause just as much pollution because they burn some source of fossil
fuel to create the energy and extract the minerals.

This power is generally collected from coal fired power plants. Each one of these power plants are
responsible for three and a half million tons of Co2 per year. The United States alone produces
nearly ten billion tons of CO2 from coal fired power plants. This is nearly one third of the 38.2
billion tons of Co2 produced by all sources. These cars are also limited on their range. A typical
electric car can only travel around one hundred twenty five miles miles before being recharged.
The disadvantage of electric cars is that they usually can travel no more than 100 miles.
(Haverdink). Therefore using more electricity, causing the power plants to make more. Another
disadvantage of electric cars is the time they take to charge. For example, The major
disadvantage of battery powered cars as we mentioned in the last section is the time required to
recharge the batteries. (Lampton). Rather than a gasoline car that you just fill up you have to
plug these cars in. This typically takes up to eight hours, putting the electric car behind on long
distance road trips. The electric car s also need a special outlet to plug into, not found in typical
homes. This cost extra money to have installed and if you need to charge somewhere it is hard to
find. Also the electricity used to charge the cars isn t free.

My own experiences having raised three children, two girls and a boy have shown that access by
them to technology such as the computer, other technological devices and access to the internet
and television programming have contributed to aspects of their own self development which
were not available to their predecessors and in my own considered judgment, based on these
developments allow for a level of maturity beyond their young ages. Given the observations on
growing p too fast, as discussed above and inclusive of research and findings by Hymowitz (1998)
which articulated on trends observed n the society in which his daughter grew up, supporting
discussions by the Sunday Sun ( 2011); Hughes (2009); Wilson ( 2008) and my own experiences in
observing the phenomena of children maturing at an earlier age than their predecessors, I submit
and support the thesis statement that children are growing up much faster currently than their
predecessors based on the evidence provided in the discussion which support such conclusions.
III.SECTION 3 CONCLUSION The phenomena of young children developing a more matured

There have been very few terrorist attacks in the United States, as opposed to some nations and
there is documented information known about how people are affected. In my opinion it appears
that mental healing occurs over time, although people most directly exposed to terrorist attacks are
at a higher risk to develop PTSD.
Problems with anxiety, depression, and substance abuse are also commonly reported.4 Predictors

Those who watch more media coverage on attacks are also at higher risk for PTSD and associated

Alopecia Areata Research Paper
Alopecia areata (AA) is an autoimmune disease that causes temporary or permanent hair loss.
The body attacks its own hair follicles, which ultimately causes them to stop growing. Typically,
it is found in small patches on the scalp but it can be diagnosed anywhere on the body. According
to Petukhova et al. (2011) this disease physically impacts 5.3 billion people just in the United
States, affecting about 1 2% of the population. There is no known cure of AA and there is little
evidence suggesting it is stress related. Geneticists have been able to use genome wide association
studies (GWAS) to recognize genes that have affiliation with the onset of alopeciaareata. Alkhalifah
et al. (2010) observed monozygotic twins because they are likely to have similar criterions and
patterns of hair follicle deterioration. They also observed that AA might be inherited due to patients
having a family history of this autoimmune disease. Human leukocyte antigens genes (HLA) are
affiliated in alopecia areataalong with several HLA class I and II alleles (Alkhalifah et al. 2010).
The HLA class II antigen is a main contributor to the development of AA. This gene is a big
expresser on the hair follicles and it is expressed on immune cells, giving antigen peptides to a
specific T cell, CD4+. These findings suggest that CD4+ cells do indeed... Show more content on

Male Dominance In The Catbird Seat
Throughout history, it is of no surprise that men dominate in a majority of environments. Though
women made a movement to gain social and political rights during the nineteenth century, it was
not entirely successful. Women have begun to gain a larger percentage of the workforce yet men
continue to uphold dominance. In the short story The Catbird Seat , James Thurber write about
how men have a known superiority over women in the workplace by describing the relationship
between Mr. Fitweiler and Mrs. Barrows. The first time during the short story that Mr. Fitweiler
has shown superiority over Mrs. Barrows is at a party when the two originally meet. Mrs. Barrows

Fitweiler s superiority is shown over Mrs. Barrows is when he requests very little information
from Mr. Martin about the accusations against himself. Mrs. Barrows stormed into Mr. Fitweiler
s office the morning after Mr. Martin arrived at Mrs. Barrows home. Mrs. Barrows warned Mr.
Fitweiler of the things Mr. Martin had threatened the night before, but it was of no avail because
Mr. Fitweiler had to protect himself, not Mrs. Barrows. Mr. Fitweiler was incredibly worried
that the affair would become known; he had to do whatever possible to keep this from being
revealed. The head of the filing department, neat, quiet, attentive, stood in front of the old man s
desk. Mr. Fitweiler was pale and nervous. (5). This quote shows how concerned Mr. Fitweiler
truly was about anyone discovering his relationship with Mrs. Barrows. When Mr. Fitweiler
brings Mr. Martin in his office to inform him on what Mrs. Barrows had just accused him of, Mr.
Fitweiler asks for very little information and a minuscule amount of details to support his alibi.
Mr. Martin did not lie when telling of his night, he simply left of the most crucial events. Mr.
Martin left out events that would have aided in Mrs. Barrows being rescued of being made a
complete fool of. Mr. Fitweiler is also much more compassionate when talking with Mr. Martin as
compared to Mrs. Barrows. When Mrs. Barrows walked into her boss office, immediately the room

Waste Water Treatment
Sewage treatment
The objective of sewage treatment is to produce a disposable effluent without causing harm to the
surrounding environment and prevent pollution.[1]
Sewage treatment, or domestic wastewater treatment, is the process of removing contaminants
from wastewater and household sewage, both runoff (effluents) and domestic. It includes physical,
chemical, and biological processes to remove physical, chemical and biological contaminants. Its
objective is to produce an environmentally safe fluid waste stream (or treated effluent) and a solid
waste (or treated sludge) suitable for disposal or reuse (usually as farm fertilizer). Using advanced

Pre treatment removes materials that can be easily collected from the raw wastewater before they
damage or clog the pumps and skimmers of primary treatment clarifiers (trash, tree limbs, leaves,
etc.).
[edit] Screening
The influent sewage water is screened to remove all large objects carried in the sewage
stream.[5] This is most commonly done with an automated mechanically raked bar screen in
modern plants serving large populations, whilst in smaller or less modern plants a manually
cleaned screen may be used. The raking action of a mechanical bar screen is typically paced
according to the accumulation on the bar screens and/or flow rate. The solids are collected and
later disposed in a landfill or incinerated. Bar screens or mesh screens of varying sizes may be
used to optimise solids removal. If gross solids are not removed they become entrained in pipes and
moving parts of the treatment plant and can cause substantial damage and inefficiency in the
process.[6]:9

much more than what people believe.
Grendel s mother, despite being a monster , was described as a woman. But how could a women

Most major psychiatric disorder diagnoses are defined as descriptive syndromes on the basis of
expert consensus. The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM) and the
International Classification of Diseases (ICD) are the standard diagnostic tools used by
psychiatrists and clinicians world wide. Unfortunately, these manuals are classified by clinical
agreement and encounter revision every few years. Perpetual revision and increased medicalization
of mental disorders also creates a dilemma for diagnosis and treatment of psychiatric disorders such
as autism spectrum disorder (ASD), schizophrenia, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder

While French physicians consider ADHD a psychosocial condition rather than a biological, only
0.5% of French children are diagnosed with ADHD. Conversely, 11% of US children are
diagnosed as well as prescribed drugs such as Ritalin and Adderall. The over diagnosis of child
onset ADHD in the US also correlates with the rise of Ritalin prescription and abuse in school and
college age adolescents (Mayes et al., 2008). Although physicians are working to implement greater
scrutiny on false diagnoses of ADHD, there is still heavy misuse among the adolescent population
and variability of doctor bias. The inconsistency in both reliable diagnostic and treatment consensus
emphasize the imperative to implement stronger genetics based studies of psychiatric disorders.
Such studies to pinpoint genes, gene products and eventually, neuro biological pathways related to
mental disorders can elucidate focused diagnostic tests and effective treatments for mental health
patients. Population based studies were among the first scientific studies to confirm the heritable
nature of mental disorders. Since the 1970s, psychiatrists clinically observed mental disorders
among family members and hypothesized their possible heritable tendencies.
Such hypotheses could not be empirically proven until researchers began doing twin and family

Many health officials have grown concerned with this unexpected new threat, mainly because the

Therefore, any amino acids produced in cellular respiration can contain the bacteria Bordetella
Pertussis. One of the symptoms of this illness is a fever, if it becomes too high it can cause
proteins to unravel and loose its normal shape. This is called a denatured protein; which are
related to many diseases. In order for a protein to function correctly, the structure has to be
normal. The primary structure of a protein its sequence of amino acids causes it to fold into its
functional shape. (Simon, Reece, Dickey, page 48). In other words, if the amino acids aren t
functioning correctly, the proteins can become misfolded. The disease is named for the
distinguishing sound produced when those who are affected attempt to breathe in. The whoop
was created because of the inflammation of the laryngeal structures that vibrate when there s a
quick inflow of air. This illness is affecting many individuals and as the years continue to pass it s

Identity In The Great Gatsby
So, the notions of love and identity are ubiquitous themes explored by many composers throughout
time. As with most concepts, its depiction and interpretation are not consistent but rather, are
dynamic. In essence they are constantly reconstructed in order to remain relevant to the composer s
context, purpose and audience. As such, the treatment of loveand identity is shaped by the
perspectives of individuals within society in accordance to their contextual values.
Within Elizabeth Barret Browning s Sonnets from the Portuguese and F. Scott Fitzgerald s The

The spiritual dimension in which Barret Browning s ideal love encompasses is of no value to, if
not all, most, of the characters in the strictly secular and consumerist world of The Great Gatsby.
This can be seen interpreted as the reason why all of the relationships in the novel were doomed
to fail they lacked the spiritual means to achieving an eternal love. None of them ever loved each
other for the love s sake
This can be seen with Jordan Baker whose character is depicted as a careless and incurably
dishonest flapper. With her name bearing two popular car brands, she is pretty much the
embodiment of materialistic and hedonistic values of the Jazz age. Virtually, the nature of the
love she shares with Nick Carraway remains in the physical realm unlike the persona s of Barrett
Browning. This is supported by Carraway s observation, I wasn t actually in love, but I felt a sort
of tender curiosity which emphasizes the inherent shallowness of such form of love. Though, it
would seem that Jay Gatsby is the only character in the novel that, like Barret Browning s persona,
seeks to attain the spiritualistic form of love. This pursuit of the ideal love with Daisy is

BONDING THROUGH EXILE:

The theme of loneliness and isolation has been predominant in cinema since its inception, but
Tomas Alfredson explores the idea in a unique way in his 2008 Swedish romantic horror film, Let
the Right One In. Set in the snowy winter of Stockholm, the film depicts the similarly cold and
depressing life of Oskar, a young target of bullying. This frozen, barren setting contributes to the
complete isolation that the viewer feels with the characters. Through strategic shot composition and
specific color and mood choices, Alfredson shows how both Oskar and Eli are cut off from the

surrounding it to amplify their sense of overwhelming loneliness. Oskar, wanting to find a

for the rest of the movie and establishes both the characters as lonely outcasts that need to be saved.
As the relationship between Oskar and Eli continues to blossom, Oskar finds out that Eli lives

Oskar attempts to let her in by motioning and gesturing but she refuses to cross the threshold. She

Psychology Study Tips
Tips
Tips are ways to shift the balance of influence or power. When dealing with students that have
special need challenges some tips to shift the balance of influence that affect their behavior or
mood can include length of time on the bus or van, distractions, and/or disturbances. The length of
the trip on the bus can be a stress trigger for a student with special needs, such as a student with
Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) or Autism. Some students may not be able to
verbally express that the length of the trip home or to school to, is stressful for them. Another tip
which can shift the balance of influence during the commute would be to identify what distracts or
disturbs each student, especially students who cannot speak. They may give you clues by
responding the way a baby would by making sounds, and/or body movements such as clapping,
reaching out, hitting, or biting. Seating and identification of triggers can tip the balance in the
favor of a safe and peaceful trip.

Aquinas, C.S. Lewis and even Mark Twain. In contrast to the blatant plagiarism o her class
mates, her work was original, cerebral and very poignant. It was as if she were baring her own
soul. He knew then that he just had to know her better. He shared with his mother that he felt
happier spending time with her than with any of the other girls he had dated. He especially loved

Sir Richard Branson s Management Skills
Sir Richard Branson is strong in all three of the essential management skills. From the standpoint
of technical skills, started the business from the ground up, so he had to develop strong technical
skills to make his business successful. He has the conceptual skills to be able to have a far
reaching vision for a huge business empire and to look at the market and see what gaps his
companies can fill. Additionally, his human skills are quite impressive, with his strong focus on
employee happiness, customer satisfaction, and family.
Sir Richard Branson would fall under the behaviorism view of management, rather than the
classical view. Sir Richard can be related to Munsterberg, as he took the time to try and find out
what conditions were ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I ve always preferred to be able to work on a project without having to worry about checking with
someone every time I need to do something. I like that there is so much freedom to create and
innovate. I do think that some people might be bothered by how willing Sir Richard is to take
risks, especially people with a high level of uncertainty avoidance, but I personally like his
attitude of trying things that people think are impossible. I think he does a good job of connecting
those under him to his brand. He s a leader who inspires and who makes people believe they re part
of something bigger than themselves.
I think that although he may be unconventional at times, Sir Richard Branson is an excellent
leader, and I hope to emulate many of his leadership traits. I honestly felt like I learned a lot about
leadership success while looking into how he runs his business. A lot of it reinforced lessons from
the course, but it was nice seeing a real world example of how those principles are being applied on
a daily basis. I am glad I selected him as my case study for this class and I would feel honored if I
ever got to meet him or have him as a manager. References:

To Build A Fire Essay
Sometimes everyone feels like giving up, and the only thing a person can rely on is his will to
survive. Giving up is admitting defeat, in every circumstance. In the story by Jack London, To
Build a Fire, the main character learns a hard lesson of reality, when he meets his fate. The result
came about because of many factors, mainly the man s lack of psychological perserverance on the
journey, as well as the harsh temperatureand surroundings. If there was any hope for the man to
survive these conditions, it would rely wholey on his persistance and motivation. The man
expected his fate after it was too late to change it, weighing all the variables and realizing there
was no probable way to escape his prediciment. The man s fate was... Show more content on

He constantly decided how cold it was and how he didn t like to be as cold as he was. Inevitably,
the psychological factors wore his mind and soul down to make him only think how cold he was.
By the end of his situation, any warmth, whether by the sleep of death or fire, was all the man
could think about. Without any imagination to focus his thoughts elsewhere, the man helped
himself collapse into his final doom.
When the time came to build a fire to survive the first accident in the water, his irresponsibility
essentially cost him his life. He forgot to build a fire promptly after he got wet, which made it
extremely difficult build one after it. His fingers got numb and rigid, making it hard to even
light a match. Eventually, the man gave up hope when the last of his matches were snuffed out.
Even when it was too late to start a fire, the man s condition of his hands prevented him by his
last resort to kill the dog he was with for warmth. Ultimately he knew his only option was to lay
down and go to sleep. The cold had gotten to him so bad that he didn t mind laying down at the
very end of his life. The satisfaction he got when he fell to sleep was much needed by him after his
cold journey that day.
Although the circumstances nature thrust at the man were immortaly dangerous, the man s deficit
of imagination and negligence innately led to his death. Psycologically, the man was no match for
the treacherous conditions around

Cerberus Research Paper
Cerberus the three headed guard dog of the underworld, offspring of Echidna, brother of The
Sphinx, The Hydra, The Chimera, The Ladon, and The Nemean Lion. Although no one knows the
story of Cerberus the Puppy.
When Cerberus was just a newborn all his brothers had left to go to their places in the world. The
Hydra went to the swamp, The Nemean Lion to the mountains and so on. However three headed
Cerberus had three different opinions. The first head thought they should care for their lonely
mother who was sitting here cowering in a cave and play. He was the nice, loving one. The
second head thought they should go protect a village that has been being terrorized. He was the
noble, adventurous one. The third head wanted to go attack wild animals and cats in the forest like
their brothers. He was the mean, mischievous one. As you can see Cerberus could not make up his
minds. So the heads decided to go roam the world.
Cerberus started to roam the world. He came across a group of children playing. Still a puppy
Cerberus could not help but jump in. The kids did not think Cerberus was a monster, just a
playful puppy. So they brought out a ball and played. This pleased the first head, he got the love
and fun he wanted. They played and played until a big snake got hold of the ball. The first head
cowered and let the second head take ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

How the Deaf Communicate in a Hearing World Essay
Imagine what life would be like with the inability to hear. Try to envision watching television
without sound or watching an inaudible movie. There is a silence that has way of making the
busiest scenes seem still. Now try to imagine a lively area filled with lots of laughter, roaring
music, and a handful of birds chirping away. That imagery paints a scene of the plain difference
between a hearing world and a deaf one. One world is capable of hearing and the other involves no
incoming source of sound whatsoever. Understanding how deaf cultureand how the hard of hearing
work and live is important in order to comprehend the reasons behind why they do the certain
things they do such as stare at others for a long period of time or the reason... Show more content on

They did not know how to react to the deaf that is until Plato, a Greek philosopher, wrote on the
account of sign language in Ancient Greece which then resulted in a spark in the interests of
other philosophers, writers, and artists (Mirzoeff). On the other hand, Aristotle, another Greek
philosopher, who has been known as one who first recorded a claim about the deaf, theorized
that people were only able to learn languages if the spoken language was heard implying that deaf
people were unable to learn effectively or at all and may as well be uneducated (Jay). It is
important to know and realize that the cause of deafness was not just because of genetics, but
because of diseases which then resulted in the side effect of hearing loss (Mirzoeff). Meningitis,
measles, or mumps were common diseases that would cause the loss of hearing back in the early
modern period (Mirzoeff).
In past times, an issue that occurred most often was how to respond to the deaf in terms of
education. They most certainly were not able to hear which meant that they also would not be able
to speak clearly or at all; many questioned how they would be able to comprehend others or
communicate with them in that kind of setting. There were little to no schools that educated deaf
children until Thomas Hopkins Gallaudet, a man with great intellect, decided that what he wanted
do in life was to contribute to the deaf world ( Thomas H. Gallaudet ). Gallaudet, founder of

The Spectroscopy Lab Centralized On The Properties Of Waves
The spectroscopy lab centralized on the properties of waves and they relate to the emission
spectrum, however one must understand the Bohr model of the atom first. The Bohr model for the
atom depicts a planetary like structure, with a positively charged nucleus in the center with small,
negatively charged electrons rotating around in specific, fixed orbits at different distances from the
nucleus. When an electrontransitions from a higher orbital, where it is in its excited state, back
down to a lower orbital where it is relaxed or in its ground state, it emits light. The emitted light is a
result of the electron releasing the previously absorbed energy. It is possible to observe an
electron in one state or another, however an electron never possesses the capability to be observed
in between states. Transitions between states that are closer together, produce a light of lower
energy transitions of a longer distance.
A spectroscope is able to display the emitted light by presenting the bright interference patterns of
the diverse wavelengths which make up the spectrum. By looking through the eyepiece, a spectrum
will appear on either side of the slit the slit starts all of the light waves passing down the tube in
phase so that they arrive at the slits in the diffraction grating at the same time. When wavelengths
are in phase, they create constructive interference, which results in double the amplification, while
wave lengths that are out of phase produce destructive

The body attacks its own hair follicles, which ultimately causes them to stop growing. Typically, it is found in small patches on the scalp but it can be diagnosed anywhere on the body. According to Petukhova et al. (2011) this disease physically impacts 5.3 billion people just in the United States, affecting about 1 2% of the population. There is no known cure of AA and there is little evidence suggesting it is stress related. Geneticists have been able to use genome wide association studies (GWAS) to recognize genes that have affiliation with the onset of alopeciaareata. Alkhalifah et al. (2010) observed monozygotic twins because they are likely to have similar criterions and patterns of hair follicle deterioration. They also observed that AA might be inherited due to patients having a family history of this autoimmune disease. Human leukocyte antigens genes (HLA) are affiliated in alopecia areataalong with several HLA class I and II alleles (Alkhalifah et al. 2010). The HLA class II antigen is a main contributor to the development of AA. This gene is a big expresser on the hair follicles and it is expressed on immune cells, giving antigen peptides to a specific T cell, CD4+. These findings suggest that CD4+ cells do indeed... Though women made a movement to gain social and political rights during the nineteenth century, it was not entirely successful. Women have begun to gain a larger percentage of the workforce yet men continue to uphold dominance. In the short story The Catbird Seat , James Thurber write about how men have a known superiority over women in the workplace by describing the relationship between Mr. Fitweiler and Mrs. Barrows. Fitweiler s superiority is shown over Mrs. Barrows is when he requests very little information from Mr. Martin about the accusations against himself. Mrs. Barrows stormed into Mr. Fitweiler s office the morning after Mr. Martin arrived at Mrs. Barrows home. Mrs. Barrows warned Mr. Fitweiler of the things Mr. Martin had threatened the night before, but it was of no avail because Mr. Fitweiler had to protect himself, not Mrs. Barrows. Mr. Fitweiler was incredibly worried that the affair would become known; he had to do whatever possible to keep this from being revealed. The head of the filing department, neat, quiet, attentive, stood in front of the old man s desk. Mr. Fitweiler was pale and nervous. (5). This quote shows how concerned Mr. Fitweiler truly was about anyone discovering his relationship with Mrs. Barrows. The over diagnosis of child onset ADHD in the US also correlates with the rise of Ritalin prescription and abuse in school and college age adolescents (Mayes et al., 2008). Although physicians are working to implement greater scrutiny on false diagnoses of ADHD, there is still heavy misuse among the adolescent population and variability of doctor bias. The inconsistency in both reliable diagnostic and treatment consensus emphasize the imperative to implement stronger genetics based studies of psychiatric disorders. As such, the treatment of loveand identity is shaped by the perspectives of individuals within society in accordance to their contextual values. The spiritual dimension in which Barret Browning s ideal love encompasses is of no value to, if not all, most, of the characters in the strictly secular and consumerist world of The Great Gatsby. None of them ever loved each other for the love s sake This can be seen with Jordan Baker whose character is depicted as a careless and incurably dishonest flapper. Inevitably, the psychological factors wore his mind and soul down to make him only think how cold he was. By the end of his situation, any warmth, whether by the sleep of death or fire, was all the man could think about. Without any imagination to focus his thoughts elsewhere, the man helped himself collapse into his final doom. When the time came to build a fire to survive the first accident in the water, his irresponsibility essentially cost him his life. He forgot to build a fire promptly after he got wet, which made it extremely difficult build one after it. His fingers got numb and rigid, making it hard to even light a match. Eventually, the man gave up hope when the last of his matches were snuffed out. Even when it was too late to start a fire, the man s condition of his hands prevented him by his last resort to kill the dog he was with for warmth. Ultimately he knew his only option was to lay down and go to sleep. The cold had gotten to him so bad that he didn t mind laying down at the very end of his life. The satisfaction he got when he fell to sleep was much needed by him after his cold journey that day. Although the circumstances nature thrust at the man were immortaly dangerous, the man s deficit of imagination and negligence innately led to his death. • 43. How the Deaf Communicate in a Hearing World Essay Imagine what life would be like with the inability to hear. Try to envision watching television without sound or watching an inaudible movie. There is a silence that has way of making the busiest scenes seem still. Now try to imagine a lively area filled with lots of laughter, roaring music, and a handful of birds chirping away. That imagery paints a scene of the plain difference between a hearing world and a deaf one. One world is capable of hearing and the other involves no incoming source of sound whatsoever. Understanding how deaf cultureand how the hard of hearing work and live is important in order to comprehend the reasons behind why they do the certain things they do such as stare at others for a long period of time or the reason... They did not know how to react to the deaf that is until Plato, a Greek philosopher, wrote on the account of sign language in Ancient Greece which then resulted in a spark in the interests of other philosophers, writers, and artists (Mirzoeff). On the other hand, Aristotle, another Greek philosopher, who has been known as one who first recorded a claim about the deaf, theorized that people were only able to learn languages if the spoken language was heard implying that deaf people were unable to learn effectively or at all and may as well be uneducated (Jay). It is important to know and realize that the cause of deafness was not just because of genetics, but because of diseases which then resulted in the side effect of hearing loss (Mirzoeff). Meningitis, measles, or mumps were common diseases that would cause the loss of hearing back in the early modern period (Mirzoeff). In past times, an issue that occurred most often was how to respond to the deaf in terms of education. They most certainly were not able to hear which meant that they also would not be able to speak clearly or at all; many questioned how they would be able to comprehend others or communicate with them in that kind of setting. There were little to no schools that educated deaf children until Thomas Hopkins Gallaudet, a man with great intellect, decided that what he wanted do in life was to contribute to the deaf world ( Thomas H. Gallaudet ). Gallaudet, founder of Gallaudet ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 44. The Spectroscopy Lab Centralized On The Properties Of Waves The spectroscopy lab centralized on the properties of waves and they relate to the emission spectrum, however one must understand the Bohr model of the atom first. The Bohr model for the atom depicts a planetary like structure, with a positively charged nucleus in the center with small, negatively charged electrons rotating around in specific, fixed orbits at different distances from the nucleus. When an electrontransitions from a higher orbital, where it is in its excited state, back down to a lower orbital where it is relaxed or in its ground state, it emits light. The emitted light is a result of the electron releasing the previously absorbed energy. It is possible to observe an electron in one state or another, however an electron never possesses the capability to be observed in between states. Transitions between states that are closer together, produce a light of lower energy transitions of a longer distance. A spectroscope is able to display the emitted light by presenting the bright interference patterns of the diverse wavelengths which make up the spectrum. By looking through the eyepiece, a spectrum will appear on either side of the slit the slit starts all of the light waves passing down the tube in phase so that they arrive at the slits in the diffraction grating at the same time. When wavelengths are in phase, they create constructive interference, which results in double the amplification, while wave lengths that are out of phase produce destructive ...
