The document experimentally investigates the mechanical properties of Kevlar fiber. Various tests were conducted on Kevlar 29 and Kevlar 49 fibers to determine their tensile properties, thermal properties, resistance to acids and salts, and ability to withstand heat and moisture. The results showed that Kevlar 49 generally performed better than Kevlar 29, with higher tensile strength and modulus. Both fibers were highly resistant to acids, salts, water, and oils. The study concluded that Kevlar 49 is well-suited for use as fiber reinforcement in concrete due to its high strength and durability properties.
a prediction of thermal properties of epoxy composites filled with pine appl...Ijripublishers Ijri
The present paper deals with the effect of volume fraction of fillers on the thermal Properties of polymer composites. This work sees an opportunity of enhancement on insulation capability of a typical fiber reinforced polymer composite. To validate this mathematical model, a set of epoxy based composites, with fiber content ranging 4.38 to 20.10% of volume fractions have been prepared by simple hand lay-up technique. For preparing the composite, natural fiber i.e. Pine apple leaf fibers are incorporated in Epoxy Resin. Thermal conductivities of these composite samples are measured as per ASTM standard E-1530 by using the Unitherm™ Model 2022 tester, which operates on the double guarded heat flow principle at the temperature ranging from 30˚C to 150˚C. And also the Specific Heat of the powdered samples are measured by using Differential Scanning Calorimeter (DSC). By using the MATLAB the numerical analysis is carried out to find the value of Thermal Diffusivity with varying temperatures. It was observed that the thermal diffusivity varies with fiber concentration, but the variation of thermal diffusivity with varying temperature was not so significant.

Abstract In the present study, composite materials required for elevated temperature applications were fabricated using vacuum bagging technique. Epoxy Resin (ER-VP401) was used as the matrix and Glass fibre was used as reinforcement. SiC, Al2O3 and others were used as fillers to bring in elevated temperature resistance. These composites were subjected to mechanical tests like Tensile, Hardness and Impact test. Tribological tests like two body abrasion and Pin on disc (POD) were carried out. Tensile strength, hardness and impact energy were improved with increase in fillers content. Wear resistance also improved with increase in percentage of fillers substantially. SEM micrographs are used to explain the mechanism of the material strengthening at elevated temperatures. Keywords: Epoxy resin, Glass Fiber (GF), Al2O3, SiC, Elevated Temperature Resistance.

Experimental Characterization of Carbon Fibre T700 / Epoxy towpreg for Space ...IJERA Editor
This document covers detailed experimental characterization of Carbon Fibre T 700/Epoxy towpreg. The
experimental characterization of carbon fibre T 700/Epoxy towpreg composite material is necessary required for
generation of mechanical properties data for analysis, design, and fabrication of structural components using
that material and for quality control of the material. The testing of composite materials offers unique surprises
because of the special characteristics of composites. Factors not considered important in metals testing are very
important in testing composites. For example, composites are anisotropic, with properties that depend on the
direction in which they are tested. Speed must be carefully monitored at the time of testing of specimens and
also fiber content, void content, specimen conditioning (drying, storage, etc) have important effects on material
properties.
In order to design composite products, a thorough experimental characterization of carbon fibre T 700 / Epoxy
towpreg composite material and its behaviour is necessary.
Presentation by Tom DeMint of Owens Corning at CAMX on October 15, 2014. As the wind power energy generation industry continues to develop, one of the main objectives of turbine rotor blade manufacturers is to reduce total energy production cost to align wind power with other energy sources. Energy produced by wind turbines is more widely available than ever before; nevertheless the industry is constantly looking for ways to further optimize the cost of energy (CoE) as one of its foremost goals. The turbine, together with its rotor blades, plays an essential role and is one of the major components of these machines in terms of cost. It generates the torque which drives the generator and is responsible for the range of conditions energy can be extracted from the available wind. Wind farms are now constructed and operate in challenging off-shore as well as on-shore locations with differing wind speed conditions. Glass fiber composite rotor blades have contributed greatly to the success of this sustainable energy source and have allowed the wind industry to make significant advances in recent times, especially in off-shore and in low-wind locations. One of the most important advances has been the progressive technology applied to the properties of glass fiber leading to the development of high modulus glass types for lighter composites offering greatly enhanced resistance to fatigue at an affordable cost. The technological advances in glass fiber properties has resulted in rotor blades of ever greater length - beyond 85m – dimensions deemed unreachable less than a decade ago. This presentationl highlights advances in the material properties of glass fiber to help designers and engineers conceive blades which are lighter yet with increased length, improved aerodynamic performance with resistance to higher, long-term fatigue loads which ultimately enables wind turbines to increase power yield and therefore reduce the cost of energy.
Influence of Ion Beam and Carbon Black Filler Type on the Mechanical and Phys...Editor IJCATR
Five types of carbon black nanofillers, namely Intermediate Super-Abrasion Furnace ISAF (N220), High-Abrasion Furnace
HAF-LS (N326), Fast Extruding Furnace FEF (N550), General Purpose Furnace GPF (N660) and Semi-Reinforcing Furnace SRF-HS
(N774) were incorporated with butadiene acrylonitrile rubber (NBR) in order to improve its physical properties. Young's modulus was
found to increase with nanofiller content. Percolation concentration was detected in mechanical as well as in Physico-chemical behavior.
The experimental values of the normalized Young's modulus fit well with Pukanszky et al. model; taking into consideration the difference
in carbon black-filler type. It is noticed that the characteristic time of swelling in toluene, τ is higher for NBR loaded with 30 phr ISAF
and for the rest of samples it increases with increasing of particle size. Finally oxygen ion beam irradiation for percolative loading NBR
nanocomposites increases Young's modulus nearly by 2-3 times.
Investigation of Tribological Behaviour of GF Filled Peek Composite under the...IJERA Editor
Composite materials have successfully substituted the traditional materials in several light weight and high
strength applications. The reasons why composites are selected for such applications are mainly their high
strength-to-weight ratio, high tensile strength at elevated temperatures, high creep resistance and high
toughness. Therefore minimum Wear of component or part used in machinery is very important factor for the
industry. In this paper the tribological behavior of PEEK (Poly-ether-ether-ketone) composites reinforced by
30% short glass fiber and phosphor bronze were comparatively evaluated on Pin on disc machine. The effect of
three parameters such as temperature, load and sliding distance on Wear loss of PEEK composites reinforced by
30% short glass fiber and phosphor bronze were examined. The detailed mathematical model is simulated by
Minitab 17 and simulation results fit experiment data very well
In this investigation, an effective approach based on Taguchi method, analysis of variance (ANOVA),
multivariable linear regression (MVLR), has been developed to determine the optimum conditions leading to
minimum Wear. Experiments were conducted by varying temperature, load and sliding distance using L9
orthogonal array of Taguchi method. The present work aims at optimizing process parameters to achieve
minimum Wear. Experimental results from the orthogonal array were used as the training data for the MVLR
model to map the relationship between process parameters and Wear. The experiment was conducted on
computerized Pin on Disc machine. It was observed that PEEK 30% Glass Fiber Composite Polymer has
excellent wear resistance compare to Phosphor bronze at elevated temperature.

CFD Simulation of By-pass Flow in a HRSG module by R&R Consult.pptxR&R Consult
CFD analysis is incredibly effective at solving mysteries and improving the performance of complex systems!
Here's a great example: At a large natural gas-fired power plant, where they use waste heat to generate steam and energy, they were puzzled that their boiler wasn't producing as much steam as expected.
R&R and Tetra Engineering Group Inc. were asked to solve the issue with reduced steam production.
An inspection had shown that a significant amount of hot flue gas was bypassing the boiler tubes, where the heat was supposed to be transferred.
R&R Consult conducted a CFD analysis, which revealed that 6.3% of the flue gas was bypassing the boiler tubes without transferring heat. The analysis also showed that the flue gas was instead being directed along the sides of the boiler and between the modules that were supposed to capture the heat. This was the cause of the reduced performance.
Based on our results, Tetra Engineering installed covering plates to reduce the bypass flow. This improved the boiler's performance and increased electricity production.
It is always satisfying when we can help solve complex challenges like this. Do your systems also need a check-up or optimization? Give us a call!
Work done in cooperation with James Malloy and David Moelling from Tetra Engineering.
