Sexism And Hostile Sexism
Sexism, is a prejudice plain and simple. One of the earliest forms of violence directed toward women
was the Witch Hunt Trials of the Middle Ages. Bishops debated whether a woman was really human at
all. If her nose were too long, she had red hair, a humped back, or if she was exceptionally beautiful,
she was thought to be a witch and was burned at the stake. There was an estimated nine million
women burned during the Witch Trials. During the Women s Liberation Movement in the 1960 s,
feminist theorists explained that oppression of women was widespread in nearly all human society,
and spoke of sexism instead of male chauvinism. Male chauvinists were usually individual men who
expressed the belief that they were superior to women (Napikoski). By the mid 20th century sexism
was established and began to appear in advertising. Between the 1970 s and 1990 s women began to
feel more equal to men until the 1980 s where they were portrayed as sex symbols on national
television (The Origin and History of SEXISM). There are two main types of sexism, benevolent and
hostile, and their definitions are opposite from one another. Hostile sexism is what most people
perceive as sexism today as it seems sexism is occurring more and more often and is, notably, more
vulgar. It is the notion that women are inferior or not as worthy; a belief that males are intrinsically
superior. For many years women have been degraded and looked down upon with the idea that their
place is in the kitchen with

Hunger Is A Growing Phenomenon
Unfortunately, for the so many people of this world, who are not privileged with the luxury of
satisfying the hunger level of the basic human hierarchical needs, hunger supersedes the mere
headache, nausea, or mood irritability. We have coined the word world hunger to group these
individuals together, and quite frankly, for these individuals, their only concern in the world, is
whether death or their next meal will come first. World hunger is a growing phenomenon that requires
proper understating and a fighting effort from all members of the world as loving caring human
beings.
Hunger is a very uncomfortable feeling for those of us who have the luxury of satisfying the hunger
level of the basic human hierarchical needs. The fortunate side of the world use words such as hunger
pangs, which means an irritation of the lining of the stomach when the stomach empties after the
digestion of a meal, its walls come into contact and rub against each other (Chuckrow, 1997). It is an
unpleasant feeling that can impact the mood of the individual experiencing it. For individuals who can
walk to their food pantries and get a snack, this is rationally the worst type of hunger that they will
ever experience in their life time. That is the pleasant side of hunger.
Analyzing world hunger in its entirety presents numerous ramifications juxtaposed to several elements
that includes but is not limited to undernourishment, famine, poverty, drought, war, starvation,
extreme diseases amongst

Writing Style Analysis Essay
Introduction Understanding the various modes and methods of writing is important in academic
writing. The following essay will describe, examine, and analyze the methods of three peer reviewed
journal articles from the International Journal of Work, Health, Organizations, specifically addressing
work and stress.
Describe Journal Writing Style The publications within the journal selected show a specific writing
style throughout all the articles selected. The writing style that was presented in these articles was a
formal style of writing. A formal style of writing can be classified as academic writing that presents a
certain structure that is to be followed. For instance, these articles presented an abstract to provide an
overview to the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The structure of the publication of these journal articles is presented on three levels. First, the authors
present the background information on the topic to gain an understanding of the topic. Secondly, the
authors present their ideas by conducting a study on the topic selected. The studies presented are
topics that are occasionally discussed or researched so the authors of this journal shed light on these
areas. The final level of structure that the authors present is a discussion and conclusion of their
results. This final level of the articles presents ways for the intended audience to incorporate the
findings in their practice or encourage the audience to pursue further research within the topic. For
example, Deligkaris, Panagopoulou, Montgomery, and Masoura (2014), present in their conclusion
how there are limited studies on burnout in correlation with cognitive impairment and introduce ideas
for future research. In addition, the articles provided practical implications for management to use
within high stress work environments to support their employees (Pindek Spector, 2016; Michailidis
Banks, 2016).
Analyze Journal Writing connection to Student Writing The writing presented in the journal articles
showe one strong connection to the writings I submit within the classrooms of Capella University. The
major connection is the use of the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association
(APA) is used. Using APA provides the overall structure of an author s writing. These articles used
headings, references, and citations throughout their work. I use these three elements consistently,
because it allows my work to be organized and my ideas supported based on other journals related to
the same topic.

Latent Defect Essay

CM 385: Section 1
Final Paper
How Can A Contractor Avoid Liability for Defective Work?
Every contract created produces a margin of risk and a platform for success. Depending on how one
manages the risk assumed, one may either excel and shine in the glory of success or drown and
disappear in the raging waters of error. Nevertheless, to become great one must take that step of faith
into the flailing wind. As said by Leo F. Buscalglia, The person who risks nothing does nothing, has
nothing, is nothing, and becomes nothing. He may avoid suffering and sorrow, but he simply cannot
learn... and grow... and live. (Buscalglia, 2009) The contractor who is bound to the owner must

Binghamton Housing Authority. It was six years after the completion of the Saratoga Terrace
apartment complex when a child fell off the back porch stoop and received severe injuries. The
parents of the child claimed that the contractor and owner were responsible due to their negligence in
constructing the stoop without a protective railing. The court referenced back to the Campo v.
Schofield case, which states, We have not yet reached the state where a manufacturer is under the duty
of making a machine accident proof or foolproof. The court also noted that the complex had been used
without accident for six years and that it did not conceal any dangers or defective work that would not
have been found by a reasonable inspection. The outcome of the case proved that the pleading did not
contain any allegation of a defect, and that the liability rested upon the parents of the child.
Consequently, the phrase Caveat Emptor (Buyer Beware) protects the contractor from future claims as
long as the defective work existed at the time of inspection and could have reasonably been identified.
Nevertheless, a contractor must also understand that if the defective work is classified as a latent
defect, the risk and liability associated with this defect may be transferred back to the contractor.
Therefore, a contractor must understand what a latent

Earning A Postsecondary Degree Essay
Have you ever wondered if getting a postsecondary degree will help in your future? Well if you said
yes then this essay will give you the information on why it is. Earning a postsecondary degree can
increase your income according to the article (college still worth it?). Some people prefer not getting a
postsecondary degree because it cost to much or it s too much work while others get it and have a
higher income. Earning a postsecondary degree will have a positive impact on someone s life because
there will be more job opportunities, earn a higher income, and a longer life expectancy.
First of all, Earning a postsecondary degree will have a positive impact on someone s life because
there will be more job opportunities available for them. For example, according to (Does having a
degree...) economic conditions have led to a sharp decrease in employment of young professionals.
Additionally, when compared with other education levels, individuals with a college degree were the
only group that had a better job. For instance, according to the National Center for Education
Statistics, the unemployment rate is higher than the unemployment rate in age groups. Furthermore,
the unemployment rate goes down with the effort being made employment rate reflects if ... Show

fewer than 17 years of education have a life expectancy that s not much better than adults in the 1950s

Furthermore, In the article (Why accountants live longer than builders) Professional women have a
life expectancy at birth of 85.1 years compared with 78.1 for manual workers. Overall, having a
skilled job can increase your life expectancy more than not having one. So, if you get a postsecondary

Epidamnus Mistaken Identity
In a play about mistaken identity, the characters are the main focus. The characters of the
Menaechmus twins are at the core of the story. They are introduced as having very different
personality traits despite their identical appearances; Menaechmus of Epidamnus is described as
normally gay, an inveterate jokester, and always out for a good time (Act I), while Menaechmus of
Syracuse is shrewd, calculation, and cynical (Act II). In this way, the twins serve as foils for each
other. However, on this particular day, due to his irritating wife, the twin from Epidamnus is in a fowl
mood, matching him to his brother s mood, which the people of Epidamnus experienced during their
encounters on that day. It is also Menaechmus of Epidamnus joking manner that allows for the
mistake the occur. When the twin from Syracuse adamantly states that he has never stepped foot in
Epidamnus before and is not familiar with anyone or what they say he has done, they believe it to just
be good old Menaechmus playing a joke on them, as he always does. The twins also appear to share
some of each other s traits. Though Menaechmus of Epidamnus is said ... Show more content on

allows for the action of the play to continue, instead of Menaechmus of Syracuse coming to the early
conclusion that the people in the town must know of someone who looks identical to him and shares
his name, i.e. his long lost twin whom he is in Epidamnus searching for and was talking about only
minutes earlier. It is also Messanio who finally puts it all together, realizing the case of mistaken
identity that has occurred and reunites the Menaechmus

Three Article Summaries and Analysis
ARTICLE SUMMARIES Article 1 Jobs in jeopardy over background check backlog(Wed,March
19,2014 Toronto Metro) This article is about the catastrophic backlog in the Toronto police
background checks for students who would like to enter the RCMP after they graduate. This is a big
problem for the students and for the RCMP. For the students it means that it will take longer for them
to get the job that they have studied for and will have to wait a while for them to pay off the debt. The
reason why this is a big problem for the RCMP is because they have to do a background check on
anyone. The Toronto police get around 200 new requests for checks each day, which cased the backlog
of almost 17,00 request. Also if the request is the same gender and birthday of a wanted criminal the
RCMP requires finger prints to determine if the person did not change their name without the
government knowing causing a bigger delay because of the amount of people in each province. The
RCMP have to require finger prints from everyone who needs vulnerable sector screening but they
find that it could cause more a backlog for the system that keeps all the records. Article 2 Canadian

John Calvin s Influence On Society
John Calvin was born in Noyon, France on July 10th 1509. At fourteen he was sent to Paris to study
theology, and developed an interest in the writings of Augustine. Calvin was able to receive his Master
s degree at the age of 19. His father then insisted that he take up law instead, wanting his son to follow
in his footsteps. But he returned to theology when his father died. Similar occurrences are still a global
issue, especially in strict traditional households. Students are forced to study and practice beliefs or
forms of education that only their parents approve of. In many cases the student will disobey their
parents which will create broken families and the loss of parental support.
During the 16th century the Protestant Reformation was blooming. Catholic Europe was being broken
due to the challenges in political, religious and intellectual belief. In 1534, Calvin underwent a sudden
change and became an ardent Protestant. With everyone having different beliefs, Calvin had his own
and wanted to share it with the world. A Protestant is a Christian who belongs to one of the many
branches of Christianity that have developed out of the Protestant Reformation started by Martin
Luther in 1517. After Journeying to Basel, a Protestant city within Switzerland, Calvin published his
first systematic theology, Institutes of the Christian Religion. Institutes of the Christian Religion
became highly influential with the Western civilizations. Calvin s writings gave an introductory

The Effects Of Carbon Dioxide On Our Oceans
Our oceans absorb almost twenty five percent, each year, of all the carbon dioxide that human activity
emits into the air. Scientists originally believed that the idea of our oceans absorbing extra carbon
dioxide that is in the air was a positive idea, because it would deter global warming. But, they soon
came to the realization that this absorption process was having similarly disastrous effects, as global
warming does, and it what happening to our oceans. This phenomenon, of our oceans taking in the
excess carbon dioxide from the atmosphere, leads to ocean acidification; a term used to describe how
our oceans are becoming increasingly more acidic over time. However, just in the past 200 years,
ocean acidification has increased by thirty percent, and this number will only continue to increase due
to our current rate of industrialization.
Carbon dioxide is one of the major greenhouse gases, and is one of the most common gases found in
the earth s atmosphere. Carbon dioxide is released into the atmosphere in mass amounts by human
activities and then absorbed by our oceans. The main way that carbon dioxide is added to the
atmosphere is by the burning of fossil fuels and deforestation. Increased energy composition and with
the industrialization age, beginning in the 18th century, has led to a drastic spike in the burning of
fossil fuels and therefore the release of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. The main emitters of
carbon dioxide are cars, airplanes, and factories

Stereotypes Exposed On Skin Color
Stereotypes have existed since humans first began to roam the planet. Early Australopithecus, the first
humans, most likely used stereotypes when deciding their daily task. Stereotypes such as everything
are dangerous and want to kill them. Later as Homo sapiens created cities and civilianization s
stereotypes helped evaluate an incoming threat so they could close the city and gather a defense to
save not only themselves but everything they worked hard to create from those who would kill them
and take the city from them. But modern human s ability to perceive threats have been clouded by
stereotypes base on skin color; to a point where anyone who is different is a threat who needs to be
eliminated. A proactive human whose flight or fight response is to fight will sometimes attack this
perceived threat without any other information aside from the stereotype. These attacks can sometimes
lead to the arrest or death of the threat who, in most cases, was an innocent in the wrong place at the
wrong time. So while stereotypes where essential to survival in early cultures, modern use of
stereotypes have turned to the extremes clouded by hatred of those who are different. In equatorial
Africa a small species of human, Australopithecus, roamed the savannah. In order to survive they
small bipedal species most likely based its day to day decisions such as what food to gather, and
where to sleep, based on the movement and location of larger predators such as lions. They used the

Music As A Culture Of Major Label Bands On Their Stations...
Nowadays radio stations and televisions are showing only mainstream, major label bands on their
stations and channels. What people mostly do not know is there is another world of music out there for
their listening: indie music. The reason people do not know about indie music is that these stations and
channels will not make as much money from these smaller record labels as they would from the major
labels that are Sony BMG, Universal Music Group, and Warner Music Group. Indie music is a co
culture of major label music but in its own right is a culture by itself on its own. To determine the
aspects and norms of the indie music culture you have to go back to the beginning or the failed
revolution as phrased by Jon Fine in the title of his book Your Band Sucks: What I Saw at Indie Rock
s Failed Revolution (But Can No Longer Hear) (Fine 2015). According to Cohen (2015), unlike other
forms of music genre or categories, indie found its beginnings in college towns or middle class
working cities. She states Athens, Georgia, Olympia, Washington, and her hometown of Louisville,
Kentucky were key cities that upstarted the revolution in the 80 s. Helping the cause was the radio
stations in these cities and towns because they were sympathetic, run by women, and had a strong
interest in the culture of art (Cohen 2015). During the 1980 s people had a Do It Yourself mentality.
Cohen (2015) states The line between fan and performer was paper thin. Anyone could get a band

Tone Of The Chimney Sweeper
In The Chimney Sweeper, William Blake uses irony to convey a pitiful tone. In lines 5 8 the speaker
lets the audience know that he enjoys being a chimney sweeper and looks at life positively. However,
his life is fairly difficult since he was sold by his parents to clean chimneys at a young age. The fact
that he looks at his job positively is ironic, because from someone else s point of view it sounds
miserable. The author says in lines four and five how he was so young when his father sold him he
could scarcely cry weep! By stating this, the speaker is implying he was so young, he may have not
known what was happening at the time. Because of the fact that he was so young, he did not have a
moral basis to know what was right and what

CHAPTER 3 During the Colonial Society in the 18th Century many things happened Colonial
Growth, Economic Boom, and the diverse branches of religion growing. Germans , Scott Irish and the

Ram Truck Persuasive Speech
Ram trucks, made for the hard working man by the hard working man. The commercial is for a

Therefore, the Ram truck is meant to be desirable by farmers to meet the demands of a farmer. The
commercial shows a slide show of farms, farmers, and Ram trucks; while being narrated by Paul
Harvey a famous broadcaster who describes how a farmer is the hardest working man. Ram trucks,
described as the most dependable and toughest truck around, the product being advertised in the

Therefore, the point of view of the audience is meant to change in order to believe that Ram trucks are
the toughest and most dependable trucks on the road. By using these ideas, the audience is meant to be
convinced to buy a Ram truck for the farmer in them. By using different persuasive techniques, the
commercial attempts to persuade farmers that Ram trucks are the best trucks.
By using persuasive techniques, the commercial convinces farmers to buy a Ram truck because of the
appeals in the commercial makes. As a result, the use of repetition when the speaker repeatedly says;
God made a farmer , drives home the point that farmers were made for hard work and so were Ram
trucks. Along with repetition, the commercial also uses ethos in order to give the product credibility.
Using farmers in the commercial demonstrates that if farmers trust
Ram, then other people can trust Ram to be dependable too. As well as using farmers for credibility,
the commercial also uses parallelism to help the idea of dependability stick in the minds of farmers.
By using the same structure, the commercial persuades farmers to feel important and believe they are
needed. Ultimately, by using these techniques together, the commercial helps

J. Alfred Prufrock Morality
The meaning of existence, and the role society plays in it, is one of humanity s more annoying itches.
It is an itch that is ignored by most, accepted by some and flailed at by a minute few. T.S Eliot, author
of The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock, is among this few. The poem s narration takes shape in the
unsettled thoughts of J. Alfred Prufrock, who has become aware of a certain overwhelming question .
Prufrock refuses to further elaborate, but no other question has overwhelmed humanity s conscience
more than the meaning of life. Prufrock has become cognisant of this immortal question, and it
threatens to push him to the point of catastrophe. To escape from its crushing weight, he embarks on a
quest to answer it, attempting to find something ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
His journey consequently brings him to love, where he hopes to find meaning within the seemingly
immortal emotion. Yet Prufrock finds this last stronghold in shambles, and he mournfully discerns the
damage society has wrought upon love in the quote: And I have known the arms already, known them
all/ . The arms represent women, broken down into the simplest physical representation. Prufrock is
the one describing them this way, but it is society that has created the idea. Prufrock is quite connected
to society ( And I have known the eyes already, known them all ), and therefore society wields a
strong influence over how he views the world around him. In this case, society has devalued women to
the point that Prufrock can only describe them as arms. This shifts love from being a romantic, almost
spiritual concept to an entirely physical one, which detracts from its deeper meaning and contributes
to its superficiality. This assertion is also supported in the following line: Arms that are braceleted and
white and bare . It reads as a checklist of entirely physical attributes, as if in order to qualify as a
woman and therefore worthy of Prufrock s love these traits must be met. This, too, detracts from the
deeper meaning of love. Lastly, Prufrock bemoans this increasingly apparent superficiality in the
quote Is it perfume from a dress/That makes me so digress? . Prufrock questions whether or not what
he perceives as love even exists, or if it is merely a perfume that has been created by society, that
some have learned to wear and others not. Prufrock, now heartbroken as well as soulless, faces a
pressing question. Does he attempt to halt society in its superficial rampage across the plains of the
human spirit? Or does he resign himself to a life of empty fulfillment, fully aware of his failure? This
inner struggle is shown in this climactic moment of the

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Nao Silver
INTRODUCTION:
Silver is bright and shining metal known to mankind from ancient times. From ancient time s human
civilization are using silver for jewelleries, utensils, weapons, coin, medicine, water containing tanks.
From early days silver is assisting the immune system when it was plentiful available in dissolved
metallic form in water[1]. In periodic table it is placed at 47th position near to heavy metal.it is a
transition metal. It has atomic weight 107.8. Silver has good metallic property like malleability,
ductility, thermal conductivity and electrical conductivity [2]. Silver exhibit the excellent anti
microbial property. After the development of nanotechnology we are using silver extensively in
various area. Now a day we use silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) instead of metallic silver for many of

Rap Music And Its Effects On Modern Music Industry
SOUTHERN RAP
Southern hip hop also referred to as southern rap originated from the southern cities like New Orleans,
Houston, Atlanta, Miami, Memphis, and Virginia Beach, just like the names implies. Rap music has
transformed modern music greatly during the decade of 1997 and 2007 (Dyson 61). The decade has
seen the southern artists rise to both national and international prominence. The southern cities have
churned up modern rap artists like Dwayne Michael (Lil Wayne), Clifford Joseph (T.I) and many
others .This papers aims to examine various artists, music and scholarly articles in analyzing rap
music in southern cities and its effects on modern music industry.

The understanding of the idea of the Dirty South and southern rap in general has found the articulation
in stereotypes of the south: the emergence of the idea represented a shift in already established
geographical imaginary of hip hop music which is bombarded with authenticity and marketability
claims (59). Before the idea, southern cities were not completely excluded from rap, but they were
obliged to stick to certain styles and conceptual limits so as to reach a wider music authenticity for
their own economic prosperity (63).
The period of Dirty south saw a substantial growth of major rap label investment in particular the
southern cities (Taylor Virgil 251). Research studies have remarked the dirt south phenomenon as
contradictory and paradoxical about its music and place (251). For some scholars, the stylistic
distinctions between the produced music in different geographical areas are not avoidable to the shifts
in economical and political context (Dyson 64). The connections between styles of music and its
origin appear to be more organic because of the ways in which they are layered; the styles and origin
makes meaning through repetition and establishment of implicit and explicit links (66).
Since the emergence of Bronx in 1970s, rap industry has centrally focused with place based industries.
Geography has played an important role in conception of authenticating the characterization of rap

Alienation in The Minister s Black Veil Essay
Alienation in The Minister s Black Veil The Minister s Black Veil by Nathaniel Hawthorne is a story
about one clergyman s alienation due to his outward dressing. Reverend Hooper was a well respected
preacher who got along well with the townspeople until one day when he appeared wearing a black
veil over his face that consisted of two folds of crape, which entirely concealed his features, except the
mouth and chin (Hawthorne 253). From that day onward, he was alienated both socially and
physically from his community and from himself due to his inability to remove the veil. Reverend
Hooper s black veil caused alienation from his congregation. The minister did not even move his veil
to perform marriages, which the town believed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Whatever his reason for his odd clothing, Reverend Hooper s veil caused more than a physical
separation from the people of his town. The people felt the veil was the symbol of a fearful secret
between him and them (Hawthorne 256). Their fear and confusion of the minister s motives caused
strange behavior and unnatural withdrawal from their spiritual leader.
After the initial onset of the black veil, the minister was alienated from himself. After performing the
wedding, he caught a glimpse of himself in the looking glass, and the black veil involved his own
spirit in the horror with which it overwhelmed all others (Hawthorne 256). He would no longer look in
a mirror at himself because his antipathy to the veil was known to be so great (Hawthorne 258). The
veil which isolated his face from the sun and rain also kept him from his deepest fears and regrets.
Reverend Hooper could no longer face himself and decided no one else alive would be allowed to face
him either. The only people who seemed to see his face and understand him were lifeless corpses. As
Mr. Hooper paid his last respects to a deceased young maiden in her casket, the veil hung straight
down from his forehead (Hawthorne 255), and a superstitious woman claimed the corpse had slightly
shuttered (Hawthorne 255). When the minister placed the black piece of cloth over his face, he
intended to keep himself from the sight of his face also.
If Reverend Hooper had found a way to deal

Dreams In Gilphash And Enkidu s The Epic Of Gilgamesh
The great Babylonian tale The Epic of Gilgamesh is about Gilgamesh, the tyrannical king of Uruk,
who comes to understand his mortality through a series of trials and tribulations. Though he is well
aware of the fact that only the gods live for ever (Gilgamesh 71), he stops at nothing to defy his
destiny as a mortal being. While the Mesopotamian gods use a system of signs and symbolic patterns
to control the happenings in the living world, humans exist only to serve them and carry out their will.
The Epic of Gilgamesh proves this to be true. I will argue that in The Epic, Gilgamesh and Enkidu
both share a dependency on the divine agencies. As their dreams and journeys are driven by external
forces, we see the two heroes struggle to understand and accept the nature of the human condition.
In the ancient world, dreams were not seen as prophecies, but more as premonitions. In The Epic of
Gilgamesh, the Mesopotamian gods convey their will to Gilgamesh and Enkidu through their dreams.
Their dreams are driven by external forces that allude to their destinies. Before the heroes embark
upon their journey to the Cedar Forest, the god[s] had [already] decreed the destiny of Gilgamesh (70)
to him in a dream. The dream is deciphered by Enkidu, who tells his friend that the father of the gods
has given [him] kingship, such is [Gilgamesh s] destiny, everlasting life is not (70). Despite his
unexampled supremacy over the people (70), the king of Uruk is dissatisfied. As Gilgamesh

Why Should Children Be Involved In Organized Activities
In this day and age I feel that children should be more involved in organized activities. There are
many reasons for this to be said among them some of the main factors for the statement is today s
technology, the ammount of time that is spent inside looking at a screen, and the over all
antisocialness of children because of the freedom that they are given. Though there are good reasons
to let children to be open, free and creative with what they do with their time controling what they
should do with said time is a much better choice.
Starting off with why children should be in more organized activities is the technology that this age
has already released. Every child in todays time has some form of technology that they re always
looking into from a tablet, a phone, a laptop, or even just sitting inside looking a televison screen. All
these forms of technology take away from the childs time to do anything else this is why having
organized activities in their life can help them break away from such things. An example could be as
simple as sports say instead of coming home from school and sitting on their phone the children are
going to practice, games, or even scrimmages for their team. Thus this keeps them away from the
electronics and placing them in the real world. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Meaning Of Bread Givers By Anzia Vezierska
From start to finish, English this year had been unlike any other I had. From start to finish, each and
every book had a deeper meaning than I, before, could possibly resolve from the text. The exposure I
had to this deeper level of thinking forever changed the way I see literature. Less about what than why
, Literature distinguishes a meaningful story from another. While what makes a book good is different
for everyone, what makes a story meaningful is what it teaches. Each book I read this year had a story
and logic behind it. Every story was real enough to have actually happened because the plot points are
supported with real speculation backed up by the nature of humanity. I, personally, have never gone as
deep into literature as I have this year, giving me a new appreciation for the genius behind the
speculation these books present. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Though up to this time I had never gotten deeply engaged in a book, the jerkiness of the father
actually sparked anger in me. I did not go too much deeper into the book, and any meaning was
hidden behind the words that I thought little of. However after spending a week in English talking
about the book, I started to see meaning behind it, but only once the meaning was directly stated. At
the time, the book did not speak to me in any way, but now looking back, what speaks to me the most
is Sarah s new perception on identity. She asks herself, can a tree hate the roots from which it sprang?
Who gave me the fire, the passion, to push myself up from the dirt? (286). She states that even though

If I had Admiral William McRaven giving the commencement speech at my high school, I would have

experiences, the information passed onto us would be relatable to almost anything. So I would have
been ecstatic if Admiral McRaven would have given the speech at my high school graduation.
Through his speech, Admiral McRaven expressed information in many different areas. One point that
he expressed was that if you want to change the world, find someone to help you paddle (7:15 7:18).

Foreshadowing Examples In John Steinbeck
A Composition of Arduous Imageries
The most arduous task in composing a song is neither the melody nor lyrics, but rather the buildup that
foreshadows both. For example, the song Blue Da Ba Dee by Eiffel 65 uses electronic percussion that
slowly increases in volume to foreshadow either the piano melody or the vocals. In literature,
foreshadowing is just as crucial in music as it is in literacy. An example is The Pearl by John
Steinbeck. Steinbeck uses the three imagery categories of music, dark, and light to foreshadow events
within the pages of The Pearl.
To summarize the novella, Mexico is the setting of the Pearl. A physically strong, but mentally
limited, man named Kino resides there with his wife, Juana, and his son Coyotito. They assume ...

During one morning in Steinbeck s novella, Kino and Juana hop in their canoe to look for pearls. Once
Kino thinks he has found one, light imagery shines through Kino s mind, when he believes that, In this
Gulf of uncertain light there were more illusions than realities (19). When superstition and tension
surface quickly like this, it means that the author is attempting to foreshadow something. Soon after
the mention of the illusion, Kino s family finds the pearl. Another example of foreshadowing using
light imagery is how Steinbeck pictures Juana after she realizes that the pearl is evil, And in the
firelight her lips and her eyes were alive with her fear (38). At the time, the pearl has just been nearly
stolen once, but Juana already becomes critical about the pearl s presence. Kino s steadfast refusal to
return to his old, peaceful life foreshadows an unfortunate change in Kino s personality through light
imagery. Similarly, the same light returns when the pearl is stolen again, when Steinbeck writes, And
as she spoke the light came back in Kino s eyes so that they glowed fiercely and his muscles hardened
and his will hardened (56). So, Steinbeck s light imagery foreshadows

Phantom Behind The Opera
The Phantom of the Opera: Behind the Mask
When many people think of The Phantom of the Opera, they think of the popular Broadway musical
written by Andrew Lloyd Webber. However, Webber had another vision in mind, a film adaptation of
his beloved musical that he announced back in 1989. In 2004 that dream became a reality when it was
released for the world to enjoy. Still, some lovers of the live performance argue that the film doesn t
have the same feel or emotion that one would get from the play. Although, this adaption doesn t give
the audience the feeling of a live performance, it does give one a unique experience in its direction,
music, acting and special effects that no other form can achieve.

the poem and the text have a long term impact greatly affected someone s life, or affected the ocean

Comparing The Income Statements Accounts And Categories Essay
Profitability These ratios are comparing the income statements accounts and categories to reflect and
to present the company s ability of generating profit from their operations. They can be used by
investors and as well by creditors to judge the company returns on investment based on its relative
level of assets and resources. Operating profit margin This ratio reflects the ability to distinguish
products, ability to control their expenses, also the degree of competitiveness in the actual economic
market. The higher the ratio the better is for the company. It shows the percentage of sales left over
after all expenses are being paid by the business. CFT Ltd, after calculating the ratio, shows us that
from 2014, where we had a 8,15% operating profit margin, they had an increase to 9,25% in 2015,
telling us that the company is doing better. Returns on capital employed (ROCE) This is another
profitability ratio that help us to measure how a company can generate profits from its capital

reflect on how efficiently a company uses its capital employed as well as its long term financing
strategies. CTF s ROCE in 2014 was 16,46% while in 2015 they reported an ROCE that is 18,22%

The Declaration Of Independence And Independence
Who were the writers of the Declaration of Independence? Who are our founding fathers and where
did they receive these great ideas? I will examine the main writer of the Declaration of Independence
Thomas Jefferson and look at the sources he used to begin our country. If Thomas Jefferson was a
student at the United States Sergeant Major Academy, and he submitted his Declaration of
Independence to turn it in would he pass? Were our founding fathers even great thinkers or were they
just taking the advice of someone else and putting it to use? The ideas and political thought that
inspired the historic Declaration of Independence did not extemporaneously pop into Thomas
Jefferson s head, but rather were a product of English literature. Start of Independence The
Declaration of Independence purpose was to demonstrate the accretion of power by the Continental
Congress as a concomitant to the drive for separation from the British Empire. Earlier in 1765, the
continental congress met to directly petition the two houses of the British Parliament. The Stamp Act
Congress was the first major meeting of the Continental Congress. In 1774, the King himself would be
the target of a more direct approach by the Congress. The balance in argument between economic
policy, on the one hand, and the natural and constitutional rights, on the other, that had characterized
the literary efforts during the Stamp Act crisis changed to a total emphasis on American rights in 1774.

The Importance Of The First Amendment Rights
I would need to say yes that obliging him to go to the meeting in which prayer to God is directed
abuses his First Amendment Rights. The First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution addresses religion
in two regards. To begin with, it restricts the government from establishing a national religion.
Opportunity from religious abuse is an essential motivation behind why numerous foreigners resulted
in moving to this country. Allowing individuals the flexibility to pick how, when, and where to
worship is a critical thought in this nation. Permitting people the freedom to choose how, when, and
where to worship is an important consideration in this country. Allowing others to discriminate

premise of their religious inclination. How is this inclination work related? It is definitely not.
Employers should respect the rights of employees to worship as they please on their own time and, if
possible, should reasonably accommodate their employees to enable them to do so (Moran, 2014). I

Argumentative Essay On The Titanic
It may seem cliché to have the Titanic as a wonder of the industrial world but we must recognize that
it is. Today when we hear the word Titanic we think of Leonardo DiCaprio and how he should have
won an Oscar for his brilliant work in the movie. Everybody knows the basic story of the Titanic but
unfortunately nobody ever goes deeper, the extent of knowledge is the movie and frankly it s quite
sad. The Titanic is a wonder of the world for many reasons and deserves to be but don t get me wrong,
it wasn t all perfect.
In the first half of the 20th century there was great competition between nations and similarly rival

Although there was such hype for the Titanic and it was supposedly the first of its kind, it was
apparently doomed from the start. This new Olympic class ship had a double bottom and 15 watertight
bulkheads, which were equipped with electric watertight doors; a switch on the bridge could operate
these separately. Shipbuilder magazine actually claimed these bulkheads as unsinkable however the
manufacturing of these bulkheads had a huge flaw. Even though the bulkheads were watertight, water
could leak from one compartment to another practically creating a flood in the compartments.
We all know the Titanic sunk and unfortunately we only know of 706 out of 3300 that had reported to
be survivors. A large part of the problem that only 706 people were saved was because there was a
limited amount of lifeboats carried. There were 20 lifeboats in total, with all of these; only 1178
people could be accommodated even though when the Titanic was full, it could carry 2435 passengers.
This left 1257 people unaccounted for, and on top of this, there was a crew of approximately 900
people. Even if all the lifeboats were filled with people, there would be only room for one third of the
ship s population. Today we think that the amount of lifeboats was inadequate however funnily

Oppression signifies an authority over another group, disengaging that particular group from the rest
of society. The term oppression encapsulates the fusion of institutional and systemic discrimination,
personal bias, bigotry, and social prejudice in a complex web of relationships and structures that shade
most aspects of life in our society (Bell, 1997). In one way or another every individual experiences
some form of oppression, whether it be through race, sex, gender, religion, age, wealth and/or sexual

about male violence against women in intimate relationships (Vickers, 2002). Having broken the

rights suggests that the silence of oppression is of the past and the future holds equality for all alike.
...power is the capacity to terrorize, to use self and strength to inculcate fear, fear in a whole class of
persons (Dworkin, 1981). Male dominance exhibits and practices fear toward those of different
classes, its use is to gain power to which control is given. In the male system, sex is the penis, the
penis is sexual power, its use in fucking is manhood (Dworkin, 1981). The male mind indicates that
without a penis an authority of power is dismissed and overlooked. Unfortunate for society today male
hierarchy continues to be the dominant practice and the penis is a visual and vital form of power. Male
sexual power is the substance of culture (Dworkin, 1981). Although women have come a long way
their oppression and limited amount of power in society has yet to be broken and adjusted because of
this visual of the male penis extracting power in society. With the Women s Movement challenging

  • 2. Sexism And Hostile Sexism Sexism, is a prejudice plain and simple. One of the earliest forms of violence directed toward women was the Witch Hunt Trials of the Middle Ages. Bishops debated whether a woman was really human at all. If her nose were too long, she had red hair, a humped back, or if she was exceptionally beautiful, she was thought to be a witch and was burned at the stake. There was an estimated nine million women burned during the Witch Trials. During the Women s Liberation Movement in the 1960 s, feminist theorists explained that oppression of women was widespread in nearly all human society, and spoke of sexism instead of male chauvinism. Male chauvinists were usually individual men who expressed the belief that they were superior to women (Napikoski). By the mid 20th century sexism was established and began to appear in advertising. Between the 1970 s and 1990 s women began to feel more equal to men until the 1980 s where they were portrayed as sex symbols on national television (The Origin and History of SEXISM). There are two main types of sexism, benevolent and hostile, and their definitions are opposite from one another. Hostile sexism is what most people perceive as sexism today as it seems sexism is occurring more and more often and is, notably, more vulgar. It is the notion that women are inferior or not as worthy; a belief that males are intrinsically superior. For many years women have been degraded and looked down upon with the idea that their place is in the kitchen with ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Hunger Is A Growing Phenomenon Unfortunately, for the so many people of this world, who are not privileged with the luxury of satisfying the hunger level of the basic human hierarchical needs, hunger supersedes the mere headache, nausea, or mood irritability. We have coined the word world hunger to group these individuals together, and quite frankly, for these individuals, their only concern in the world, is whether death or their next meal will come first. World hunger is a growing phenomenon that requires proper understating and a fighting effort from all members of the world as loving caring human beings. Hunger is a very uncomfortable feeling for those of us who have the luxury of satisfying the hunger level of the basic human hierarchical needs. The fortunate side of the world use words such as hunger pangs, which means an irritation of the lining of the stomach when the stomach empties after the digestion of a meal, its walls come into contact and rub against each other (Chuckrow, 1997). It is an unpleasant feeling that can impact the mood of the individual experiencing it. For individuals who can walk to their food pantries and get a snack, this is rationally the worst type of hunger that they will ever experience in their life time. That is the pleasant side of hunger. Analyzing world hunger in its entirety presents numerous ramifications juxtaposed to several elements that includes but is not limited to undernourishment, famine, poverty, drought, war, starvation, extreme diseases amongst ... • 4. Writing Style Analysis Essay Introduction Understanding the various modes and methods of writing is important in academic writing. The following essay will describe, examine, and analyze the methods of three peer reviewed journal articles from the International Journal of Work, Health, Organizations, specifically addressing work and stress. Describe Journal Writing Style The publications within the journal selected show a specific writing style throughout all the articles selected. The writing style that was presented in these articles was a formal style of writing. A formal style of writing can be classified as academic writing that presents a certain structure that is to be followed. For instance, these articles presented an abstract to provide an overview to the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The structure of the publication of these journal articles is presented on three levels. First, the authors present the background information on the topic to gain an understanding of the topic. Secondly, the authors present their ideas by conducting a study on the topic selected. The studies presented are topics that are occasionally discussed or researched so the authors of this journal shed light on these areas. The final level of structure that the authors present is a discussion and conclusion of their results. This final level of the articles presents ways for the intended audience to incorporate the findings in their practice or encourage the audience to pursue further research within the topic. For example, Deligkaris, Panagopoulou, Montgomery, and Masoura (2014), present in their conclusion how there are limited studies on burnout in correlation with cognitive impairment and introduce ideas for future research. In addition, the articles provided practical implications for management to use within high stress work environments to support their employees (Pindek Spector, 2016; Michailidis Banks, 2016). Analyze Journal Writing connection to Student Writing The writing presented in the journal articles showe one strong connection to the writings I submit within the classrooms of Capella University. The major connection is the use of the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (APA) is used. Using APA provides the overall structure of an author s writing. These articles used headings, references, and citations throughout their work. I use these three elements consistently, because it allows my work to be organized and my ideas supported based on other journals related to the same topic. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Latent Defect Essay Mike Christensen December 10, 2009 CM 385: Section 1 Final Paper How Can A Contractor Avoid Liability for Defective Work? Every contract created produces a margin of risk and a platform for success. Depending on how one manages the risk assumed, one may either excel and shine in the glory of success or drown and disappear in the raging waters of error. Nevertheless, to become great one must take that step of faith into the flailing wind. As said by Leo F. Buscalglia, The person who risks nothing does nothing, has nothing, is nothing, and becomes nothing. He may avoid suffering and sorrow, but he simply cannot learn... and grow... and live. It was six years after the completion of the Saratoga Terrace apartment complex when a child fell off the back porch stoop and received severe injuries. The parents of the child claimed that the contractor and owner were responsible due to their negligence in constructing the stoop without a protective railing. The court referenced back to the Campo v. Schofield case, which states, We have not yet reached the state where a manufacturer is under the duty of making a machine accident proof or foolproof. The court also noted that the complex had been used without accident for six years and that it did not conceal any dangers or defective work that would not have been found by a reasonable inspection. The outcome of the case proved that the pleading did not contain any allegation of a defect, and that the liability rested upon the parents of the child. Consequently, the phrase Caveat Emptor (Buyer Beware) protects the contractor from future claims as long as the defective work existed at the time of inspection and could have reasonably been identified. Nevertheless, a contractor must also understand that if the defective work is classified as a latent defect, the risk and liability associated with this defect may be transferred back to the contractor. Therefore, a contractor must understand what a latent ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I really want this job to be able to work with others while being able to learn from their mistakes while they learn from mine. What do you know about this company/industry? Well if you said yes then this essay will give you the information on why it is. Earning a postsecondary degree can increase your income according to the article (college still worth it?). Some people prefer not getting a postsecondary degree because it cost to much or it s too much work while others get it and have a higher income. Earning a postsecondary degree will have a positive impact on someone s life because there will be more job opportunities, earn a higher income, and a longer life expectancy. First of all, Earning a postsecondary degree will have a positive impact on someone s life because there will be more job opportunities available for them. For example, according to (Does having a degree...) economic conditions have led to a sharp decrease in employment of young professionals. Additionally, when compared with other education levels, individuals with a college degree were the only group that had a better job. • 8. Epidamnus Mistaken Identity In a play about mistaken identity, the characters are the main focus. The characters of the Menaechmus twins are at the core of the story. They are introduced as having very different personality traits despite their identical appearances; Menaechmus of Epidamnus is described as normally gay, an inveterate jokester, and always out for a good time (Act I), while Menaechmus of Syracuse is shrewd, calculation, and cynical (Act II). In this way, the twins serve as foils for each other. However, on this particular day, due to his irritating wife, the twin from Epidamnus is in a fowl mood, matching him to his brother s mood, which the people of Epidamnus experienced during their encounters on that day. It is also Menaechmus of Epidamnus joking manner that allows for the mistake the occur. When the twin from Syracuse adamantly states that he has never stepped foot in Epidamnus before and is not familiar with anyone or what they say he has done, they believe it to just be good old Menaechmus playing a joke on them, as he always does. • 9. Three Article Summaries and Analysis ARTICLE SUMMARIES Article 1 Jobs in jeopardy over background check backlog(Wed,March 19,2014 Toronto Metro) This article is about the catastrophic backlog in the Toronto police background checks for students who would like to enter the RCMP after they graduate. This is a big problem for the students and for the RCMP. For the students it means that it will take longer for them to get the job that they have studied for and will have to wait a while for them to pay off the debt. The reason why this is a big problem for the RCMP is because they have to do a background check on anyone. The Toronto police get around 200 new requests for checks each day, which cased the backlog of almost 17,00 request. Also if the request is the same gender and birthday of a wanted criminal the RCMP requires finger prints to determine if the person did not change their name without the government knowing causing a bigger delay because of the amount of people in each province. The RCMP have to require finger prints from everyone who needs vulnerable sector screening but they find that it could cause more a backlog for the system that keeps all the records. At fourteen he was sent to Paris to study theology, and developed an interest in the writings of Augustine. Calvin was able to receive his Master s degree at the age of 19. His father then insisted that he take up law instead, wanting his son to follow in his footsteps. But he returned to theology when his father died. In many cases the student will disobey their parents which will create broken families and the loss of parental support. During the 16th century the Protestant Reformation was blooming. Catholic Europe was being broken due to the challenges in political, religious and intellectual belief. In 1534, Calvin underwent a sudden change and became an ardent Protestant. • 11. The Effects Of Carbon Dioxide On Our Oceans Our oceans absorb almost twenty five percent, each year, of all the carbon dioxide that human activity emits into the air. Scientists originally believed that the idea of our oceans absorbing extra carbon dioxide that is in the air was a positive idea, because it would deter global warming. But, they soon came to the realization that this absorption process was having similarly disastrous effects, as global warming does, and it what happening to our oceans. This phenomenon, of our oceans taking in the excess carbon dioxide from the atmosphere, leads to ocean acidification; a term used to describe how our oceans are becoming increasingly more acidic over time. However, just in the past 200 years, ocean acidification has increased by thirty percent, and this number will only continue to increase due to our current rate of industrialization. Carbon dioxide is one of the major greenhouse gases, and is one of the most common gases found in the earth s atmosphere. Carbon dioxide is released into the atmosphere in mass amounts by human activities and then absorbed by our oceans. The main way that carbon dioxide is added to the atmosphere is by the burning of fossil fuels and deforestation. Increased energy composition and with the industrialization age, beginning in the 18th century, has led to a drastic spike in the burning of fossil fuels and therefore the release of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. The main emitters of carbon dioxide are cars, airplanes, and factories ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. Stereotypes Exposed On Skin Color Stereotypes have existed since humans first began to roam the planet. Early Australopithecus, the first humans, most likely used stereotypes when deciding their daily task. Stereotypes such as everything are dangerous and want to kill them. Later as Homo sapiens created cities and civilianization s stereotypes helped evaluate an incoming threat so they could close the city and gather a defense to save not only themselves but everything they worked hard to create from those who would kill them and take the city from them. But modern human s ability to perceive threats have been clouded by stereotypes base on skin color; to a point where anyone who is different is a threat who needs to be eliminated. A proactive human whose flight or fight response is to fight will sometimes attack this perceived threat without any other information aside from the stereotype. These attacks can sometimes lead to the arrest or death of the threat who, in most cases, was an innocent in the wrong place at the wrong time. So while stereotypes where essential to survival in early cultures, modern use of stereotypes have turned to the extremes clouded by hatred of those who are different. In equatorial Africa a small species of human, Australopithecus, roamed the savannah. In order to survive they small bipedal species most likely based its day to day decisions such as what food to gather, and where to sleep, based on the movement and location of larger predators such as lions. • 13. Music As A Culture Of Major Label Bands On Their Stations... Nowadays radio stations and televisions are showing only mainstream, major label bands on their stations and channels. What people mostly do not know is there is another world of music out there for their listening: indie music. The reason people do not know about indie music is that these stations and channels will not make as much money from these smaller record labels as they would from the major labels that are Sony BMG, Universal Music Group, and Warner Music Group. Indie music is a co culture of major label music but in its own right is a culture by itself on its own. To determine the aspects and norms of the indie music culture you have to go back to the beginning or the failed revolution as phrased by Jon Fine in the title of his book Your Band Sucks: What I Saw at Indie Rock s Failed Revolution (But Can No Longer Hear) (Fine 2015). According to Cohen (2015), unlike other forms of music genre or categories, indie found its beginnings in college towns or middle class working cities. She states Athens, Georgia, Olympia, Washington, and her hometown of Louisville, Kentucky were key cities that upstarted the revolution in the 80 s. Helping the cause was the radio stations in these cities and towns because they were sympathetic, run by women, and had a strong interest in the culture of art (Cohen 2015). During the 1980 s people had a Do It Yourself mentality. Cohen (2015) states The line between fan and performer was paper thin. Anyone could get a band ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It is an itch that is ignored by most, accepted by some and flailed at by a minute few. T.S Eliot, author of The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock, is among this few. The poem s narration takes shape in the unsettled thoughts of J. Alfred Prufrock, who has become aware of a certain overwhelming question . Prufrock refuses to further elaborate, but no other question has overwhelmed humanity s conscience more than the meaning of life. His journey consequently brings him to love, where he hopes to find meaning within the seemingly immortal emotion. Yet Prufrock finds this last stronghold in shambles, and he mournfully discerns the damage society has wrought upon love in the quote: And I have known the arms already, known them all/ . The arms represent women, broken down into the simplest physical representation. Prufrock is the one describing them this way, but it is society that has created the idea. Prufrock is quite connected to society ( And I have known the eyes already, known them all ), and therefore society wields a strong influence over how he views the world around him. In this case, society has devalued women to the point that Prufrock can only describe them as arms. This shifts love from being a romantic, almost spiritual concept to an entirely physical one, which detracts from its deeper meaning and contributes to its superficiality. This assertion is also supported in the following line: Arms that are braceleted and white and bare . It reads as a checklist of entirely physical attributes, as if in order to qualify as a woman and therefore worthy of Prufrock s love these traits must be met. This, too, detracts from the deeper meaning of love. Lastly, Prufrock bemoans this increasingly apparent superficiality in the quote Is it perfume from a dress/That makes me so digress? . Prufrock questions whether or not what he perceives as love even exists, or if it is merely a perfume that has been created by society, that some have learned to wear and others not. Prufrock, now heartbroken as well as soulless, faces a pressing question. Does he attempt to halt society in its superficial rampage across the plains of the human spirit? Or does he resign himself to a life of empty fulfillment, fully aware of his failure? This inner struggle is shown in this climactic moment of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The understanding of the idea of the Dirty South and southern rap in general has found the articulation in stereotypes of the south: the emergence of the idea represented a shift in already established geographical imaginary of hip hop music which is bombarded with authenticity and marketability claims (59). Before the idea, southern cities were not completely excluded from rap, but they were obliged to stick to certain styles and conceptual limits so as to reach a wider music authenticity for their own economic prosperity (63). The period of Dirty south saw a substantial growth of major rap label investment in particular the southern cities (Taylor Virgil 251). For some scholars, the stylistic distinctions between the produced music in different geographical areas are not avoidable to the shifts in economical and political context (Dyson 64). After the initial onset of the black veil, the minister was alienated from himself. After performing the wedding, he caught a glimpse of himself in the looking glass, and the black veil involved his own spirit in the horror with which it overwhelmed all others (Hawthorne 256). He would no longer look in a mirror at himself because his antipathy to the veil was known to be so great (Hawthorne 258). The veil which isolated his face from the sun and rain also kept him from his deepest fears and regrets. Reverend Hooper could no longer face himself and decided no one else alive would be allowed to face him either. The only people who seemed to see his face and understand him were lifeless corpses. As Mr. Hooper paid his last respects to a deceased young maiden in her casket, the veil hung straight down from his forehead (Hawthorne 255), and a superstitious woman claimed the corpse had slightly shuttered (Hawthorne 255). Dreams In Gilphash And Enkidu s The Epic Of Gilgamesh The great Babylonian tale The Epic of Gilgamesh is about Gilgamesh, the tyrannical king of Uruk, who comes to understand his mortality through a series of trials and tribulations. While the Mesopotamian gods use a system of signs and symbolic patterns to control the happenings in the living world, humans exist only to serve them and carry out their will. The Epic of Gilgamesh proves this to be true. I will argue that in The Epic, Gilgamesh and Enkidu both share a dependency on the divine agencies. There are many reasons for this to be said among them some of the main factors for the statement is today s technology, the ammount of time that is spent inside looking at a screen, and the over all antisocialness of children because of the freedom that they are given. Though there are good reasons to let children to be open, free and creative with what they do with their time controling what they should do with said time is a much better choice. Foreshadowing Examples In John Steinbeck A Composition of Arduous Imageries The most arduous task in composing a song is neither the melody nor lyrics, but rather the buildup that foreshadows both. For example, the song Blue Da Ba Dee by Eiffel 65 uses electronic percussion that slowly increases in volume to foreshadow either the piano melody or the vocals. In literature, foreshadowing is just as crucial in music as it is in literacy. An example is The Pearl by John Steinbeck. Steinbeck uses the three imagery categories of music, dark, and light to foreshadow events within the pages of The Pearl. To summarize the novella, Mexico is the setting of the Pearl. When superstition and tension surface quickly like this, it means that the author is attempting to foreshadow something. Soon after the mention of the illusion, Kino s family finds the pearl. Another example of foreshadowing using light imagery is how Steinbeck pictures Juana after she realizes that the pearl is evil, And in the firelight her lips and her eyes were alive with her fear (38). At the time, the pearl has just been nearly stolen once, but Juana already becomes critical about the pearl s presence. Kino s steadfast refusal to return to his old, peaceful life foreshadows an unfortunate change in Kino s personality through light imagery. Everyone has different interests and it s good to have a variety rather than everyone being the same. This personally influenced me to be more open minded, rather than sticking to what I only know. The world has so much more to offer than just what some people find interesting. As stated in the poem, taking the path less traveled by, can make all the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 32. Comparing The Income Statements Accounts And Categories Essay Profitability These ratios are comparing the income statements accounts and categories to reflect and to present the company s ability of generating profit from their operations. They can be used by investors and as well by creditors to judge the company returns on investment based on its relative level of assets and resources. Operating profit margin This ratio reflects the ability to distinguish products, ability to control their expenses, also the degree of competitiveness in the actual economic market. The higher the ratio the better is for the company. It shows the percentage of sales left over after all expenses are being paid by the business. CFT Ltd, after calculating the ratio, shows us that from 2014, where we had a 8,15% operating profit margin, they had an increase to 9,25% in 2015, telling us that the company is doing better. Returns on capital employed (ROCE) This is another profitability ratio that help us to measure how a company can generate profits from its capital employed by comparing net operating profit to capital employed. Investors are looking at this ratio to reflect on how efficiently a company uses its capital employed as well as its long term financing strategies. CTF s ROCE in 2014 was 16,46% while in 2015 they reported an ROCE that is 18,22% which suggest the company is performing worst in 2015, in terms of profitability. This can be down to poor cost control or more ineffective brand use in 2015. Gross profit margin It is used to assess the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 33. The Declaration Of Independence And Independence Who were the writers of the Declaration of Independence? Who are our founding fathers and where did they receive these great ideas? I will examine the main writer of the Declaration of Independence Thomas Jefferson and look at the sources he used to begin our country. If Thomas Jefferson was a student at the United States Sergeant Major Academy, and he submitted his Declaration of Independence to turn it in would he pass? Were our founding fathers even great thinkers or were they just taking the advice of someone else and putting it to use? The ideas and political thought that inspired the historic Declaration of Independence did not extemporaneously pop into Thomas Jefferson s head, but rather were a product of English literature. Start of Independence The Declaration of Independence purpose was to demonstrate the accretion of power by the Continental Congress as a concomitant to the drive for separation from the British Empire. Earlier in 1765, the continental congress met to directly petition the two houses of the British Parliament. The Stamp Act Congress was the first major meeting of the Continental Congress. In 1774, the King himself would be the target of a more direct approach by the Congress. The balance in argument between economic policy, on the one hand, and the natural and constitutional rights, on the other, that had characterized the literary efforts during the Stamp Act crisis changed to a total emphasis on American rights in 1774. • 34. The Importance Of The First Amendment Rights I would need to say yes that obliging him to go to the meeting in which prayer to God is directed abuses his First Amendment Rights. The First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution addresses religion in two regards. To begin with, it restricts the government from establishing a national religion. Opportunity from religious abuse is an essential motivation behind why numerous foreigners resulted in moving to this country. Allowing individuals the flexibility to pick how, when, and where to worship is a critical thought in this nation. Permitting people the freedom to choose how, when, and where to worship is an important consideration in this country. Allowing others to discriminate because of religion not only compromises this First Amendment right, it also promotes the economic advantages of belonging to one religion (Moran, 2014). ... On the off chance that a man relates socially just with individuals from his or her own religion, that is a secured decision. Be that as it may, Employment is not social; it is financial. It is out of line for a business to pick its workers on the premise of their religious inclination. How is this inclination work related? It is definitely not. Employers should respect the rights of employees to worship as they please on their own time and, if possible, should reasonably accommodate their employees to enable them to do so (Moran, 2014). • 35. Argumentative Essay On The Titanic It may seem cliché to have the Titanic as a wonder of the industrial world but we must recognize that it is. Today when we hear the word Titanic we think of Leonardo DiCaprio and how he should have won an Oscar for his brilliant work in the movie. Everybody knows the basic story of the Titanic but unfortunately nobody ever goes deeper, the extent of knowledge is the movie and frankly it s quite sad. The Titanic is a wonder of the world for many reasons and deserves to be but don t get me wrong, it wasn t all perfect. In the first half of the 20th century there was great competition between nations and similarly rival shipping lines. J. Bruce Ismay, the chief executive of the White Star Line and William J. Pirrie, the chairman of the Belfast based ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Although there was such hype for the Titanic and it was supposedly the first of its kind, it was apparently doomed from the start. This new Olympic class ship had a double bottom and 15 watertight bulkheads, which were equipped with electric watertight doors; a switch on the bridge could operate these separately. Shipbuilder magazine actually claimed these bulkheads as unsinkable however the manufacturing of these bulkheads had a huge flaw. Even though the bulkheads were watertight, water could leak from one compartment to another practically creating a flood in the compartments. We all know the Titanic sunk and unfortunately we only know of 706 out of 3300 that had reported to be survivors. A large part of the problem that only 706 people were saved was because there was a limited amount of lifeboats carried. There were 20 lifeboats in total, with all of these; only 1178 people could be accommodated even though when the Titanic was full, it could carry 2435 passengers. This left 1257 people unaccounted for, and on top of this, there was a crew of approximately 900 people. Even if all the lifeboats were filled with people, there would be only room for one third of the ship s population. Today we think that the amount of lifeboats was inadequate however funnily enough, the Titanic had more lifeboats on average than most ships and also exceeded the British Board of Trade s ... • 36. Gold Coast Drivers Research Paper Lauren Foster 18400834 EDC171 Teachers inquiring about the world How can Gold Coast drivers contribute to the sustainability of the Great Barrier Reef whilst in traffic congestion? I am concerned by the amount of harmful carbon emissions being produced into the atmosphere by my vehicle, whilst idling in heavy traffic congestion on the Gold Coast. As a Queensland resident, I am aware of the rich natural ecosystems within the state, particularly the Great Barrier Reef. Situated along the Queensland coastline, the Great Barrier Reef stretches 2,300km from the north of Bundaberg to the tip of Northern Queensland, making it the largest living structure in the world (Zell, 2012). This document specifically highlights how the Gold Coast City Council is tackling the city s issue of traffic congestion by improving the existing structure of the roads and public transport. Hopefully this will decrease the number vehicles on the road which will reduce the amount of carbon emissions into the atmosphere (City of Gold Coast, 2013). A Peer reviewed journal, Estimation of Carbon Footprint of Fuel Loss Due to Idling of Vehicles at Signalised Intersection in Delhi confirmed my concerns relating to carbon emissions whilst idling in traffic congestion by providing the calculation of the amount of carbon emissions produced by average car using petrol. CO2 emissions from a gallon of gasoline = 2,421 grams x 0.99 x (44/12) = 8,788 grams = 8.8 kg/gallon = 19.4 pounds/gallon or litre equivalent CO2 emissions from a gallon of diesel = 2,778 grams x 0.99 x (44/12) = 10,084 grams = 10.1 kg/gallon = 22.2 pounds/gallon or litre equivalent (Bhandaria, Paridab, and Singh 2013). Further investigation includes research into what alternative economical vehicles are available from vehicle manufacturers and to source more statistics relating to carbon emissions and ocean ... • 37. Oppression Essay Oppression signifies an authority over another group, disengaging that particular group from the rest of society. The term oppression encapsulates the fusion of institutional and systemic discrimination, personal bias, bigotry, and social prejudice in a complex web of relationships and structures that shade most aspects of life in our society (Bell, 1997). In one way or another every individual experiences some form of oppression, whether it be through race, sex, gender, religion, age, wealth and/or sexual orientation. These cultural minorities experience inequality where a dominant culture casts its authority and power through exercises of unjust and cruel methods; these methods have been experienced through the Women s Movement, the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A great achievement of women s movements worldwide has been their success in breaking the silence about male violence against women in intimate relationships (Vickers, 2002). Having broken the silence of violence it has also broken the silence of oppression. The ongoing battle(s) of women s rights suggests that the silence of oppression is of the past and the future holds equality for all alike. ...power is the capacity to terrorize, to use self and strength to inculcate fear, fear in a whole class of persons (Dworkin, 1981). Male dominance exhibits and practices fear toward those of different classes, its use is to gain power to which control is given. In the male system, sex is the penis, the penis is sexual power, its use in fucking is manhood (Dworkin, 1981). The male mind indicates that without a penis an authority of power is dismissed and overlooked. Unfortunate for society today male hierarchy continues to be the dominant practice and the penis is a visual and vital form of power. Male sexual power is the substance of culture (Dworkin, 1981). Although women have come a long way their oppression and limited amount of power in society has yet to be broken and adjusted because of this visual of the male penis extracting power in society. With the Women s Movement challenging women s rights it did however omit African American women from the process. The Civil Rights ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Wednesday at work I had a closing shift and worked on shifting the back for new items, we received new handbags, scarves, and wallets, and I made new spots for them in the back. Later, I helped another woman with her handbag that I remembered we sold last year part of the poppy collection we did not sell the black she had but we did carry a grey and navy, but no longer sell in store. Before I told her what we could do for her I checked inventory in our stores in the Dallas district if they had the purse, maybe by return, and then our distribution center, they did not have it either. I offered her a couple of choices for her handbag that had a damaged zipper, either I could send it off for repair and have it to take 4 6 weeks, or to walk ...
