College At Oneonta For My Masters
All of my experiences in life have lead me to apply to SUNY College at Oneonta for my Masters of
Science in Education. I have many goals, both professional and academic that are related to school
counseling. All throughout school I had many inspirational school counselors that molded who I am
today. This set me up for success in my college career. Upon entering college, I began to appreciate
the importance of planning and organization in order to build the life I wanted for myself. While
completing the application process for graduate school I realized that everything I had done over the
years lead to this moment. I thoroughly enjoyed applying for schools, only because I had the
confidence and motivation from my many mentors and counselors surrounding me. My friends would
ask for my assistance everyday during their own educational planning and I knew I wanted to make a
career out of it. During these experiences, I learned the importance of discovering a meaningful life
path. This is the most important aspect I will instill in the students I work with on a daily basis. I was
lucky enough to have an amazing counselor at my undergraduate college. Jennifer Rooney, Director of
Career Development and Engagement at St. Joseph s College, provided me with amazing advice
regarding school counseling. She motivated me to follow through with my dream and encouraged me
to use my past experiences as a way to succeed in the field of School Counseling. Working with
children is my

Traditional Culture Vs. Lean In Health Care
Lean culture is the combination of defining customer value, aligning around a common purpose,
striving for perfection while at the same time respecting and developing employees (O Rourke, 2017).
A Lean culture is an important component of a lean program. It serves as the framework in which lean
tools and techniques are utilized. Without a receptive culture, the lean principles will fail. Leaders
must champion a lean environment aligned with the mission, vision and values of the healthcare
organization. In addition, leaders are tasked with creating an organization culture that is receptive to
lean thinking (Going Lean in Health Care, 2005).
A lean culture differs in many ways from traditional organizational culture. Since the traditional and
lean way vary widely, a conversion requires re conditioning of all those involved. The following table
shows the differences between a traditional and lean culture. Table 1. Traditional Culture versus Lean
Culture.
(Going Lean in Health Care, 2005).
A successful and sustainable lean culture requires new behaviors that start at the very top of the
organization. Leadership can drive the Lean culture change process by setting the behavioral
expectations. The behavior and actions will only produce a culture change if they are modeled from
top to bottom. Leaders must remain committed to the process as a new way of doing business
(Rubrich, 2017). They must constantly drive the same message, involve everyone and guide the

The Trials And Tribulations Of Racism
The most important theme in this book was the trials and tribulations of racism because it was woven
in every part of the plot, it contributed to the conflict and resolutions, and gave the story a connection
to current events, helping the reader s comprehension. Each twist and turn of the story had hints of
association with the struggles of racism. From the trial in court to the discovery of the body to the
flashbacks of back stories of the characters, this theme was delicately integrated. In Kabuo Miyamoto
s situation, the court was harsh on his case, and he couldn t get himself a very good lawyer, as no one
would offer to defend the enemy . They were quick to jump to conclusions. He got hit pretty hard with
something fairly flat, Art. Puts me in mind of a type of gun butt wound I saw a few times in the war.
One of those kendo strikes the Japs used. Also, even though the Japanese are a main part of the story,
they were portrayed as isolated and reclusive. They were very cold to other people, a result of a
mindset of superiority. As they only associated with others of their race, they were untrusting and
distant from others. Kabuo didn t even trust the lawyer who was to keep him out of prison. As the
book switches time frames, there were subtle or evident signs of challenges of racial tension
everywhere. You could see how this theme had effects on everything in a slightly different manner,
depending on the situation. Many of the conflicts in the book were based off

Pros And Cons Of Partisan Media
The Biased Partisans American journalism has always played both sides of the fence for the American
people. In regards to that, news media is always for the people, however for different reasons. One is
to make money, and two is to provide the American people with the accurate information of national
and international affairs. As a result, partisan news media has become realistically the only choice of
news with the big five owning most of the corporations. The discussion amongst scholars is that
partisan news makes for more of an engaged citizen, on the other hand it creates bias due to the lack of
correlation of intertwining ideas. Taking into consideration both sides of the argument, one thing
remains true that there is a correlation between the great divide and the big five partisan news medias.
Partisan news has recently become under scrutiny for the biasness that they hold. With CNN being
exposed for their fake news and their relentlessness to undermine Trumps presidency. Despite this
embarrassment, there have been some pros proclaimed by an author in the article, Public Opinion and
the Media: Is Partisan Media Exposure Bad for Democracy? Sides believes that partisan news doesn t
create polarize news rather they attract already polarized people (Sides 5). Additionally, Sides states
that partisans are the ideal citizens in our democracy (6). With this being said, Sides believes he is
onto some correlation between partisan news and participation amongst citizens.

The Behavioral, Humanistic, And Cognitive Approach
There are a few different approaches to how psychologists view things. These include but are not
limited to, the behavioral, humanistic, and cognitive approaches. Each approach treats things
differently. These different approaches stem from psychologists who didn t think each other was right
and so they each came up with their own way of viewing things. None of these approaches are wrong,
but they just differ from one another. Jake was diagnosed with an anxiety disorder, but these three
approaches have different views on the origins and the treatment of his anxiety.
The first of these approaches is the behavioral approach. Behaviorists tend to focus on the things we
can actually see, the physical side of things, and follow classical and operant conditioning. In Jakes
case, the psychologists would say that Jake s anxiety stems from the environment around him directly.
Jakes anxiety would be coming directly from his college classes. The fact that they are stress inducing
proves this to the behavioral perspective. The UCS would be the classes or, harder work, the UCR
would be the anxiety, and then when paired together the conditioned stimulus is the classes and the
conditioned response is the anxiety. As far as treatment goes, from a behavioral perspective negative
and positive reinforcement would ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Humanists tend to relate everything back to the patient, and to unlock or show them their full
potential, because they believe everyone has that untapped potential. They would try to help Jake
mature in his emotions and be the best he could be. They would push Jake to come to face with
whatever his stressor is, be then exposed more so to it, so that he wouldn t be so stressed out by it all
the time. They might try to get Jake to realize and unlock a potential he didn t know he had, a potential
that enabled him to complete these harder classes with

Top 15 Accusations Made Against Vince McMahon
It is fair to say that Vince McMahon is probably the most successful figure in WWE business.

The Choices Made Effect The Future
After graduating high school, life actually begins. The choices made effect the future, a big choice to
make is whether to go into the military. The military force closest to civilians is the National Guard.
National Guardsmen and women get benefits that normal civilians don t, but the opposite is also true.
Differences between time, money, and education should be taken into account when deciding a future
in the National Guard. Humans only have so long to live, time wasted is time that cannot be
recaptured, time is a currency that without thriftiness can dwindle into nothing. When someone joins
the National Guard, he/she signs to work for eight years of their life. Depending on the force joined in
the National Guard, the basic training is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Civilians can achieve two Bachelor degrees, if money isn t a problem, in the eight years National
Guard members serve. Since civilians do not hold drills on weekends or go to mandatory meetings
they can hold a job because their schedule is more manageable (National Guard Members Struggle to
Keep Civilian Jobs). Family is less of an issue because civilians are not withheld by a contract to leave
the state by the federal government. All of the factors point that civilians are better equipped to save
time. Civilians might be better in the department of saving time but money is a different story. During
training, National Guard forces are paid as if they are in active duty (What will I get paid). Once the
training is over, the money declines for reserve members, but stays relatively constant for active
members. The pay is around two hundred to three hundred dollars for reserve members, and one
thousand five hundred dollars to two thousand dollars for active members per drill, one weekend a
month (What will I get paid). The pay of the National Guard might not be exciting, but the military
truly shines in the area of education. At a local college, such as Brigham Young University of Idaho, it
would cost around twenty one thousand dollars for schooling (GI Bill Comparison Tool). However,
the National Guard can pay for all of it if the member drills and

Henry Kissinger Influence
This responsibility is awarded a tremendous amount of prestige by the general public, but it carries
with it the enormous burden of making the difficult decisions when they are necessary. The decades of
the mid 20th century are amongst some of the most influential in history in terms of political, social,
and economic effects on later decades. It was during a period of less than ten years that Henry A.
Kissinger occupied a government office in Washington D.C. and so greatly influenced the foreign
policy of not just President Nixon, but all Presidents and elected officials to come that were involved
in foreign affairs. The foreign policy of the United States was under the watchful, and some would say
maniacal supervision, of Kissinger for a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Around four hundred years prior to Kissinger, the proverbial weight of influence and judgement that
rest upon a man in power was exemplified perfectly by a different Henry, Shakespeare s King Henry
IV, Uneasy lies the head that wears a crown said the King in regard to the difficulties that accompany
a positon of power.
Henry Kissinger if nothing else was a prolific mind, with an IQ high enough that would more than
likely categorize him as a genius he seems to possess an unrelenting drive to be the smartest person in
the room. Possibly a result of the constant anti Semitic harassment that he experienced growing up as
a Jewish child in Germany during the rise of the Nazi Party, his motivation to succeed was quite
incredible. He arrived on the shores of the United States via New York City 1938 and immediately
began working in a shaving brush factory to help support his family. After completing high school in
1940, he went to the College of New York, however in 1943 once he became a naturalized citizen, he
was drafted into armed service. Ironically only five years after he and his family had fled

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Intellectual Property
TITLES
There are three common types of intellectual property; patents, trademarks, and copyrights. First, the
patent which is a privilege of the property right owned by the inventor, in other words it is the
property right of an invention. The duration of the patent is twenty years from the time when the
inventor invented the invention. There are some people who sell a patent product without the
authorization of the patent holder; this process is called infringement. If the patent holder discovered
this violation then he/she can bring his/her case to the courts. If the law announced the patent s holder
right then he/she would claim all of the profit which the infringer had received; in addition to the
responsible royalties. In the process of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The advantages and disadvantages of the intellectual property in general; the first advantage of
intellectual property is that the legal fees is not existing, the second advantage is the freedom in
developing or changing the idea, the third advantage is the potential to lead the competition because of
being the first competitor or first seller, but still indeed the movement in some markets is so fast that
the intellectual property or in other words the IP is not worth the wait. There are three disadvantages
of the intellectual property in general; firstly, the usage of the idea which was developed by the person
who own the IP can be by anyone, secondly, someone else could actually protect it, finally, there is no
guarantee that the owner of the intellectual property will be rewarded. The first type of intellectual
property is patents which have some advantages and disadvantages; the first advantage is the patent
banns legally anyone other than the inventor from using the invention, the second advantage is that
only the existence of the patent destroys the competitors, the third advantage is that the patent last
twenty years which is an enough time for the inventor to make and develop his/her market with the
customers, the fourth and final advantage is that the patents are very attractive for the investors
because the competition is almost not effective to the patent holder. As there are some advantages for
patents there are also some disadvantages; first, in the process of establishing patent the applicant is
required to donate both money and time, second, every new application for a patent has to be
researched in order to find that there is no other patent that is no identical patent existing in order to
that search the applicant is required to pay fees, thirdly, it is

Why Cheating Is Wrong
Would you believe that 80 to 95 percent of high school students admit to cheating at least one time in
the past year? (2nd source). Students use many tactics for cheating because they do not understand the
subject, or they stress the need to be successful. I believe, because of transformation of cheating and
lack of disciplinary consequences, cheating has become more prevalent in schools in our society. The
first idea to understand about cheating is the many forms of how they are carried out. As technology
has grown and evolved to what it is today, it has opened many more ways of cheating to occur and
causes the temptation to be much easier to pursue. But first, there is the most basic form of cheating
that we all know and it is by simply looking off another student s paper. Whether it would be for
homework or a test, it is more commonly used to copy for a test. Next, students may get together and
have one person to one half of the homework while the other does the other half, then they both
exchange papers and copy each others answers. Through the wonderful world of technology, cheating
and plagiarizing is very easy to encounter, even without us realizing it. Students use Internet sources
to look up answers for school work and use those answers as their own. What they fail to do is
properly source their information. When this happens, they do not give credit to the information
source, and it could cost the student a zero for the schoolwork, in the class, or worse they get

My Aspirations For This Class
Personal Statement
My aspirations for this class originally was to study and learn the history of the Romans, in particular
the Roman Republic Era, but when I learnt that we were to study Greek culture and society, I was
disappointed. Although the class had surprised me and intrigued me, I still was still fascinated and
oblivious to Roman history. Therefore I chose Pompey, a famous general and great rival of the
legendary Caesar. Other than these two statements, I had not known any background information on
Pompey.
My only real primary source, Plutarch, was a very direct and informative source, but lacked in the
areas which would have helped my report. Plutarch retold Pompey s life from beginning till end, but
did not give any biased ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I found I had to sift through a lot of information about his military efforts before I could get to his
political actions, which in comparison were short. I overcame this by choosing to rely on the texts and
Plutarch, and if I found information coming from other sources which support that, I would use it. If I
found new information that wasn t found in the texts, I would not use it. This was my tactic to play it
safe and not give out false information and perspective views.
My main problem when writing the report was that I had introduced too much of the historical side of
Pompey, and ignored his influence on to society, or the society itself, which is the core of this report. I
worry that even my final draft is still too much like a biography than a report.
I had to also study other important individuals such as Sulla, Caesar and Crassus, all who is just as
difficult to study as Pompey. I found that more information about the political ambition of Pompey
was given through texts about Caesar than texts about Pompey himself. This was probably because
Pompey was a military minded individual, while Caesar relied on politics and the people for his
power.
My opinion on Pompey was that he was too hasty and was not aware of the consequences for his
actions. This would specifically affect me, for I too can relate and say that I am very boisterous and
rash, do first

Good Vs Evil Analysis
To be human, means having the ability to articulate emotions and ideas that can lead to questioning
what is good and what is evil. The theme of good and evil is expressed through the eyes of the man
and the boy, who label people as either good guys or bad guys. While the boy has a more simplistic
idea of good and evil, the man has a hard time grasping the difference between who the good guys and
the bad guys are. He wonders as to what makes him any different from the cannibal blood cults, who
like them are just trying to survive. Humans have a distinct need to try and distinguish between bad
and good, even when we can t come up with a way of defining them. In a world where there is even

Comparing The Iliad And The Odyssey
This short essay will identify five traditional epic characteristics that are evident in both the Iliad and
the Odyssey.
The first epic characteristic evident in both epics is catalogs and genealogies. For instance, Book VIII
of the Odyssey features a list of participants in the game (115 125) and the Iliad Book II features a
catalog of ships (484 759).
Secondly, both epics start in media res. The Odyssey starts ten years after the Trojan War and the Illiad
starts nine years after the start of the war.
Thirdly, the Muses are prayed to for inspiration to tell the story, which can be observed in the Iliad
Book I (1 9) and in the Odyssey Book I (1 31).
Fourthly, the main characters also give long formal speeches. For instance, in Book XI of the Iliad,
Hector rallies his men with a long speech after Agamemnon is carried off the field (248 291).
Similarly, there are extended speeches between Telemachus and the suitors, which compile Book II of
the Odyssey.
Finally, there is intervention of gods or machinery in both epics. For Odysseus , Poseidon s divine
intervention kept him from returning home for several years. Similarly, one of many examples of
divine intervention exists fairly in the beginning of the Iliad, when Apollo responds to Chryses appeal
to strike the Greek armies with plague.
In conclusion, five traditional epic characteristics that are evident in both the Iliad and the Odyssey
have been identified in the paragraphs above.

To many Kendrick Lamar is just another west coast rapper; and to a diehard group of fans he is the
king of west coast rap. But on the night of the 2016 Grammy awards, as he limped on stage, chained
to his backup dancers, Kendrick suddenly became more than just a rapper. His six minute performance
of The Blacker the Berry and Alright from his hit album To Pimp a Butterfly was captivating,
electrifying and so powerful it had him trending on Twitter for days to follow. This reaction was the
result of shock and praise as mainstream America was introduced to the unapologetic blackness of
Kendrick s art. Broadcasted on a network television station, the awards show presented the perfect
platform and opportunity for Kendrick to reach out to beyond his usual fan base. As all great artists
do, Kendrick realized the rarity of the chance he was given and how he could use the moment to do
more than just display his talents as a rapper. His performance gloried in its afrocentrism, with its
medley of hip hop, jazz, traditional African costumes and dance. But the message in the lyrics
Kendrick rapped, spoke of a uniquely American issue: the high rates of police brutality against black
men in the United States. One thing that is true is that rap music has a negative reputation among the
mainstream audience because of its heavy references to gang violence, drugs, money, misogyny, sex,
etc. Another truth is that rap music has been historically considered a large part of black culture.

Jim Hawkins Heroism
Noah. Moses. Joshua. Esther. What might all these people share in common? All were heroes in the
light of the biblical understanding of the term, heroism. Matthew 20:28 says, Just as the Son of Man
did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many. (NIV). This is a
verse that talks about one of the components of a true hero s character. Those that I mentioned above
were humble, led others by serving, counted others and their needs more significant than their own,
and obeyed God s call for their lives. Of course, they were sinners and still stumbled and fell, but
generally they were heroic according to the Bible. Although none can come close to the perfect
heroism of the Ultimate Hero, our Lord Jesus Christ, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
But they are truly incorrect in their perception because neither Jim nor Silver qualify as heroes when
heroism as explained in the Bible is considered. Jim Hawkins and Long John Silver do not think about
others before themselves, lead by serving, and are not humble. They may indeed have instances of
good works, but that does not make them heroes. Furthermore, if good works do not stem from the
Holy Spirit s doing in your heart and are coming from your own self righteousness, Isaiah 64:6 says,
[...] all our righteous acts are like filthy rags [...] (NIV). Some may think that Silver sparing Jim s life
and Jim cutting the anchorage and sailing the Hispaniola were heroic acts. But these acts were truly
not coming from the heart of God s type of hero. Silver did not really care about Jim s life. I says to
myself, you stand by Hawkins, John, and Hawkins ll stand by you. [...] You save your witness, and he
ll save your neck! (127); Silver only wanted Jim as a witness for him in court back in England. Silver
s motivation was pure selfishness. Likewise, Jim was prideful about how he sailed the Hispaniola to
the North inlet after cutting its anchorage. I had nothing nearer my fancy than to get home to the
stockade and boast of my achievements. (118); Jim just desired his shipmates to value him and wanted
to be applauded as the good sailors hero. Neither Silver nor

A Single Story Analysis
When Adichie refers to a single story, she is describing that a person or group of people may be
disillusioned due to their lack of exposure to other perspectives and ideas. For instance, Adichie states
that when she read American and European storybooks as a child, all of the characters were of the
white race and exemplified white characteristics, leading to an ignorant and close minded depiction of
the world. Moreover, when Adichie began reading African literature, she found that people like me,
girls with skin the color of chocolate, whose kinky hair could not form ponytails, could also exist in
literature (Adichie 1:07). This illustrates that in both African and European literature, characterization
is limited to the demographics known to the writers, the story is restricted based on one s viewpoint.
Furthermore, the danger in simply reading or writing a single story is that over time, a person, or
group of people, can become bias due to their lack of exposure to cultural and ethnical diversity. For
example, Adichie describes that when she met the family of Fide, her houseboy, and saw that one of
Fide s brothers had woven a beautiful basket she was taken aback because it had become impossible
for me to see them as anything else but poor. Their poverty was my single story for them (Adichie
3:43). This seemingly minor misconception exposes Adichie to the dangers of following a single story
, a reality check which changed her perception of the world. Furthermore, the

Net Neutrality and Market Regulation
With a unanimous 3 0 vote on January 14, 2014, the US Circuit Court of Appeals for the
District of Columbia circuit court gutted key pieces of the Federal Communication
Commission s (FCC) 2010 order to broadband service providers, or, net neutrality rules .
Simply put, net neutrality is the principle that broadband providers should treat all Internet content and
applications equally (Lyons). Based on telecommunications law, the FCC s 2010 order had created a
set of three primary rules for net neutrality to govern how broadband companies were to operate. The
first, called the Transparency Rule required companies to

different and lead to drastically different trajectories.
Whereas Wu approaches it with a concern for fairness to the consumer and the small market ,
Lyons examines the apparent lack of fairness towards the providers. It goes without saying that the
repercussions of this angle for Lyons distance his argument from many audience.
Furthermore, both use history Wu, in terms of cyclical trends throughout history and new
technologies, and Lyons through a comprehensive analysis of the past and current applications of
unreasonable discrimination as laid out through §202. Ultimately, Lyons opines, that
broadband providers should be permitted the same flexibility [as telephone companies] and
invoking the traditional language of common carriage while redefining the duties that language

Canada s Role In Ww2
In the final two years of the Second World War, Canadian operations was astonishing from the simple
growth and expansion of the RCN, working alongside Britain to engage in and manage convoy
protection. Canada s naval contribution was essential over U Boat attacks on shipping, and because of
such undertakings, Canadian naval officers conducted an ultimately successful campaign to have
Canada s efforts in the Battle of the Atlantic acknowledged by the creation of an independent
Canadian command in the northwest Atlantic. In December 1942, Canada successfully won an
administrative battle to gain responsibility for the distribution of all intelligence concerning convoys
under Canadian control, and because of complex additions to the Enigma machines ... Show more

Moving forward, it is also highly unlikely that Britain would have survived after the Battle of Britain
had the Royal Canadian Navy not been assisting merchant convoys crossing the Atlantic from the US
and Canada. The air effort presented similar trends as the RCN in May 1945, there were 784 aircraft in
Coastal command, with 511 used against submarines and the rest for enemy attacks. Approximately
153,000 flight personnel were trained out of a total of 239,761 that were engaged in British and
Commonwealth flying operations, a pivotal choice in gaining air superiority victory over the sky
would never have happened so quickly without Canada s involvement. The RCAF famously worked
with the RCN throughout the Battle of Britain, the attempt by the German war machine to destroy
Britain s Royal Air Force (RAF) and prepare for invasion after already conquering most of Europe,
including France, which was one of Canada s first campaigns during the first nine months or so of
war. Founded in 1924, the RCAF was the smallest of Canada s services when war broke out in 1939.
Attempts to expand and improve the force up until 1935 were futile, only growing from 569 to 1,031
personnel, just enough for the needs of war. The Second World War undoubtedly established an
aircraft industry and the progression of civil aviation formed a reserve of skilled pilots from a
developed training scheme established in Canada. The inauguration of the British Commonwealth Air
Training Plan (BCATP) took place, a strategy conceived by Prime Minister King to train pilots and
flight personnel in Canada, so that the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) would remain a safe
distance away from the fighting in Europe and North Africa. This allowed for contribution from the

Ender s Game Comparison Essay
This is a comparative review of the book and the movie ender s game. In this review I will compare
the book ender s game written by Orson Scott Card to the movie ender s game directed by gavin hood.
Imagine that an alien species called the buggers or (formic) has attacked earth twice in the last 50
years and almost wiped out the human species. The world government needs to prepare a general to be
ready for the next invasion. Ender s game is about a boy named ender who goes to a space station
military school and learns how to be a commander. He becomes the best commander in his school and
moves to this asteroid called eros. There he plays a simulation where he learns how to kill the buggers
(or formics) and eventually destroys the whole planet. The teachers tell him that the simulations were
real and he had killed the whole planet and wiped them out completely. He feels guilty and flies to the
planet and to colonize it with his sister and others. He finds a bugger (or formic) cocoon. There he
then goes to the end of the galaxy trying to find a planet for the buggers (or formic) to live again. ...

The movie changes the alien s name from buggers to formics. The movie also takes out the scene
where ender breaks a kids arm and replaces it with a kid throwing up. In the book ender s brother and
sister create online profiles with fake names and write political articles which build up a lot of online
support but in the movie there is no mention of it. In the book it demonstrates how ender went from 6
two 21 throughout the book but in the movie it starts when he was around 10 and has a period of
around 6 months. In the book it shows how isolated ender was but in the movie he makes friends
really quickly. In the book gavin hood decides to remove the scene where ender goes to the alien
planet to make a new home for humans. Gavin hood replaces this by leaving the audience on a cliff

The Value Of The Jaguar Essay
The jaguar is a highly known animal with notable affiliation in the Pre Columbian Mesoamerican
societies and belief systems. All major Mesoamerican cultures proudly presented a jaguar god. Jaguars
are known for their power and aggressive strength. They are great hunters and one of the big cats that
can tolerate water. Most information that is known about Mayan culture and Mesoamerican societies
comes from the countless and scrupulous findings on stone monuments, murals, documents, adorned
vases, and conventional sources, where we can survey that the Maya carried out religious exercises
with most of these objects. This is evident of the Mayan jaguar lidded vessel from the Fresno Art
Museum. Vessels are vases that were used not for just funerary purposes, but also for rituals, offerings,
and a plethora of other daily activities. Other important details about jaguar symbolism in
Mesoamerican cultures include the fact that the word for jaguar, bahlam, appears in many of the
names of Mayan kings than any other animals. This is not surprising since the jaguar is the mighty
emperor of crafty force. Andrea Stone and Marc Zender state in their book, Reading Maya Art: A
Hieroglyphic Guide to Ancient Maya Paintings and Sculptures, that, The jaguars ferocity made it an
ideal insignia of warriors who wore jaguar parts to wear it like a badge of honor, whether it was the
head, skin, tail, or paws. To spread out jaguar skin was an expression for war, and

December 6, 2012
Abstract
This paper will discuss the topic of work related stress and its management. It will present a general
introduction or definition of stress and will discuss several subtopics related to work stress. This paper
will present several subtopics including a model of stress known as the General Adaptation Syndrome,
the causes of stress, the consequences of stress, and how to manage work related stress. A solution for
the problem of work related stress will be presented. This paper will present a solution that entails
how to cope with stress, and how to eliminate, or at least reduce, the amount of work related stress. In
general, this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, if the stressor persists, then the individual will not be able to handle the stress for long. In
this stage, the individual s energy is being depleted.
The third and final stage, Exhaustion, is when an individual s level of resistance to the stressor
decreases dramatically until it goes below the normal level. In this stage, an individual s energy has
run out and he or she is unable to maintain normal body functioning. If the stressor continues, long
term damage could occur to the person s body. The body s immune system is weakened which can
result in being more prone to sickness.
An alternative to the Exhaustion stage is the Recovery stage. This stage occurs when an individual is
able to successfully cope with and overcome the stressor (Wikipedia, 2012). This paper will be
specifically discussing and analyzing work related stress. So, what is work related stress? Work related
stress, also known as occupational stress, is stress related to the workplace. Work related stress can
occur in an individual when his or her workplace has a highly demanding environment or job and he
or she does not have the ability to completely deal with the demanding workplace or complete the
demanding job (Wikipedia, 2012). There are several other factors that can cause work related stress
which will be presented in this paper. Now that a definition and model of stress have been presented,
this paper will focus on the causes of stress, known as stressors, as it

The Importance Of Communication As An Effective Communication
Directors it is important that it is done so in a formal manner. Any information that is given to them
must be based on factual evidence rather than just opinion. This means when making
recommendations, evidence needs to be given to support it, whether this be by including changes to
statutory, local authorities or governing bodies requirements for the running of the home. Evidence
may also be submitted in the form of a report formulated by myself, which would include different
research methodologies to support my findings. Communication is largely face to face, or via email.
Sales Representatives
Contact with sales representatives always warrants formal communication. This is because they are
often precursors to a business contract occurring. It is therefore important that communication is clear
and there is full understanding by both parties.
1.2 EXPLAIN HOW TO SUPPORT EFFECTIVE COMMUNICATION WITHIN OWN JOB ROLE.
Katz (1955) suggests that what he refers to as human skills determine how effectively we are able to
work with people. Communication is an essential factor in achieving this. Skills for Care (2006) also
identified communication as an important factor in effective leadership and management.
Due to the fact that I perform a number of job roles, mostly at management level (as identified above),
direction of communication is an important factor. When I am communicating with senior support
workers and staff, the direction of communication is downwards as these

Presentation Of A Cook Is A Person Who Can Change Anyone...
A cook is a person who can change anyone s mood by giving tasty food. Growing up I never thought
that being a chef at a restaurant in the casino was the profession I would have, but here I am. I started
with an interest in art, then acting and poetry when I was younger, then food became my fascination
and cooking became my passion. I find it enjoyable being able to cook for people and provide them
with a sense of satisfaction.
The power to heal others and to offer myself immortality. I in fact love this life and what it, brings.
The good is worth nothing without the bad, and they have come together to be a great experience and
one that I never want to end.
There is a similar goal by all chefs here, and that is to determine how to grow and develop the St.
Louis food, wine and cocktail experience further than anyone s dreams. I am honored to have the
chance to cook in our beautiful city and watch the development of food in St Louis grow.
I observe the young cooks who are just starting out in this business. They are watching all of us
experienced chefs who are running kitchens. I just advise them to devote on their work to become the
best chef of the area. Let me introduce myself my name is Walt and I thought about writing this blog
to share my wisdom when it comes to all things food related.

Political Oligarchy
In a 2014 report titled Testing Theories of American Politics: Elites, Interest Groups, and Average
Citizens, Martin Gilens and Benjamin Page wrote that their Multivariate analysis indicates that
economic elites and organized groups representing business interests have substantial independent
impacts on U.S. government policy, while average citizens and mass based interest groups have little
or no independent influence. As the report became increasingly popular, scholars, politicians and
others all created their own thoughts and opinions on the issues. Some going as far as to say that this
research showed that the United States has become an oligarchy.
This report and the response it has gained begs a few questions: first, what is an oligarchy ... Show

A common depiction of lobbying is that of an individual offering money, gifts, trips, or other goods on

The Effect Of The On The And Value Of Signal Produced From...
6.1
The device which converts the physical stimulus into a more convenient form for the purpose of
measuring the stimulus is called a sensor.
6.2
Analog sensor: Analog sensor produces analog signal whose values varies in an analogous manner
such as electronic voltage.
Discrete sensor: Discrete sensor produces only certain values as output. It is categorized into two
types
1.) Binary, which produces on/off signal
2.) Digital, which produces a set of parallel status bits or series of pulses.
6.4
The relationship between the value of physical stimulus and value of signal produced is called the
transfer function of the sensor.
6.5
Actuator coverts the controller command signal into change in physical parameter. It is also referred to
as transducer as it converts one type of physical quantity into another type.

Two disadvantages of DC motors are
1.) The commutator and brushes used causes maintenance problems.
2.) The electrical power is alternating current but DC motors needs a rectifier to convert that into
direct current.
6.10
Conventional DC and AC motors works by continuous rotation according to the DC or AC power
source whereas the stepper motor rotates in step angles where step angle is the rotation in discrete
angular displacements. Electrical pulse is generated for each angular step.

Forensic Investigations
Most law enforcement agencies require their candidates to hold an associate s or bachelor s degree, the
most suitable areas of study are in forensic sciences and crime scene investigations. Most candidates
seek their education with schools that have a criminal justice department which offers degrees with a
concentration in forensics and crime scene investigations. A criminal justice degree provides a course
of study that covers three main areas: forensic science, technology, and law enforcement.
On a regular day, a forensics investigator will arrive at the place of the crime and assess the scene. He
or she will gather evidence, take measurements and pictures of the crime scene for later reference.
They will test and analyze all the evidence to see how each piece connects to the larger picture. Lastly,
they will prepare investigative reports and provide testimony in a court of law. ... Show more content

The Roaring Twenties And The Jazz Age
The Roaring Twenties
Daily Life
The 1920s were called the Roaring Twenties or the Jazz Age in North America, the Golden Age
Twenties in Europe and Années folles by French speakers all because this era was a period of
sustained economic prosperity with emphasis in each name of the era s social, artistic and cultural
change.
A time when there was a revolution in almost every part of daily human life where more and more
people were moving from the countryside to the city in search of wealth and in order to raise their
standard of living.
While many countries enjoyed this economic prosperity, the United States was the one that prospered
the most.
This era brought about several major cultural trends which were made possible by this ... Show more

Many more women were also entering the workforce.
During the early 1920s, there was a peak in the membership of the Ku Klux Klan of four to five
million members, meaning that ideas of white supremacy were also at a high.
The Immigration Act of 1924 restricted immigration and many nationalities were restricted or even
banned.
Fashion
The 1920s was when women, especially younger women, first abandoned the more restricting
fashions from prior years and began to wear more comfortable clothes such as short skirts or trousers
that utilized the abundance of cotton and wool and new fastening methods such as buttons or zippers.
Woman also had more functional clothing and some styles were referred to as being a more masculine
figure because of flattened breasts and hips within clothing and short hairstyles to fit under popular
hats such as the close fitting cloche hat.
Men also changed from highly formal clothes and even began to wear athletic clothing for the first
time.
Throughout the Roaring Twenties men wore short suit jackets, high waisted jackets often worn with
belts and short jackets with two or three buttons and more loose athletic wear such as sweaters and
short trousers or knickers.
The older, more formal long jackets were only used for formal occasions and the most formal men s
suit was black or midnight blue worsted (high quality yarn) swallow tailed coat trimmed with satin
and a matching pair of trousers.
Hats were worn depending on

My Special Place Of Voyageurs National Park
My special place is a campsite called Day Maker 23 located on a small island on Namaken Lake in
Voyageurs National Park. Voyageurs National Park is located in Orr Minnesota just south of the
Canadian border. It is also located on the Eastern edge of the Canadian Shield. An exposed area of
Precambrian stone. My island does not have a specific name, but it appears to be a break off of
Sweetnose island in the Blind Indian Narrows located at 48°26 33.7 N 92°46 33.0 W. Day Maker 23 is
unique in that its location causes a division in current going through the narrows causing stronger
currents towards the west side of the island. This was a phenomenon that we often had to deal with as
the current would push our boat against the only dock on the island located on the western point. The
only campsite on the island was also located on the western point, but was significantly more elevated
than its rocky shoreline. This elevation, coupled with the island s location caused for a constant breeze
to blow over the campsite (Appendix D). Day Maker 23 had a very rocky shoreline characterized by
many of the islands within Voyageurs National Park. These rocks vary in size, with some rocks having
large cracks with small caves (Appendix C). The rocks around the shoreline were typically light grey
in color with some variations in texture and crystal size. (Appendix B) I do not remember the rocks
being particularly sandy, however, I have also not been to the site in four to five years. These

The Battle Henry Fleming Chapter Summary
This book is about an 18 year old boy named Henry Fleming. He decides that he wants to enlist into
the Union Army, in hopes of finding glory and fame in doing so. The army turned out to be pretty
boring because all he and the rest of his troops are doing is sitting there, waiting for an enemy to
approach them. When he engages in his first battle against the confederate soldiers he is overwhelmed
with fear, due to the fact that it s the first time he has had to fight. In the midst of the battle he tries to
run away from the scene, eventually he runs right into the generals. The generals are at the back of the
line giving orders to the troops. The troops stand their ground and outlast the confederate soldiers,
winning the battle. Later

Analysis Of Moonlight By Barry Jenkins
Barry Jenkins Moonlight depicts the coming of age of a young black boy as he struggles with and
endures abuse for his sexuality, causing him to hide his internal conflicts. The life of the protagonist,
Chiron, is split into his three main stages of life, with each part focusing on the physical and emotional
abuse he endures due to his homosexual orientation. When the viewer first meets Chiron, he is
running from bullies. As he ages, the bullying follows him, causing him to harden and avoid
vulnerability in his adult life. Jenkins uses climactic scenes in Chiron s life to portray how prejudice
against black sexuality forces him to conceal his true identity. In Moonlight, Jenkins cinematic style
illustrates Chiron s public and private ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The scene culminates with the characters distancing themselves from both each other and the
audience. Rather than following the characters as they leave, the camera stays stable, leaving an empty
space on screen in their absence. This absence of a figure on screen in their house hints at Chiron s
lack of a home, a safe place to explore his individuality.
Jenkins lighting and sound are also essential to the portrayal of this scene as a key moment in Chiron s
struggle with his identity. These elements characterize Paula as an impeding obstacle to Chiron s self
discovery. Chiron s face here is highlighted, while his mother s face is covered in shadows. This
contrasts the two, indicating that the audience should be on Chiron s side and see the darkness within
Paula. Typically, mothers in films are basked in warm light, indicating their nurturing relationships
with their children. The shadows covering Paula s face, therefore, suggest that she is an absent mother
figure, which soils Chiron s natural maturation. Furthermore, no sound can be heard from Paula,
though the audience can read her lips and understand the nature of their conversation. Instead,
classical music is audible. The use of no sound further establishes Paula as an absent figure in Chiron
s life because she is seen, but not heard. Paula s body is basked in pink light until the end of the scene,
when the light fades to reveal bluish green walls. In this film, Jenkins uses the

  • 2. College At Oneonta For My Masters All of my experiences in life have lead me to apply to SUNY College at Oneonta for my Masters of Science in Education. I have many goals, both professional and academic that are related to school counseling. All throughout school I had many inspirational school counselors that molded who I am today. This set me up for success in my college career. Upon entering college, I began to appreciate the importance of planning and organization in order to build the life I wanted for myself. While completing the application process for graduate school I realized that everything I had done over the years lead to this moment. I thoroughly enjoyed applying for schools, only because I had the confidence and motivation from my many mentors and counselors surrounding me. My friends would ask for my assistance everyday during their own educational planning and I knew I wanted to make a career out of it. During these experiences, I learned the importance of discovering a meaningful life path. This is the most important aspect I will instill in the students I work with on a daily basis. I was lucky enough to have an amazing counselor at my undergraduate college. Jennifer Rooney, Director of Career Development and Engagement at St. Joseph s College, provided me with amazing advice regarding school counseling. She motivated me to follow through with my dream and encouraged me to use my past experiences as a way to succeed in the field of School Counseling. Working with children is my ... • 3. Traditional Culture Vs. Lean In Health Care Lean culture is the combination of defining customer value, aligning around a common purpose, striving for perfection while at the same time respecting and developing employees (O Rourke, 2017). A Lean culture is an important component of a lean program. It serves as the framework in which lean tools and techniques are utilized. Without a receptive culture, the lean principles will fail. Leaders must champion a lean environment aligned with the mission, vision and values of the healthcare organization. In addition, leaders are tasked with creating an organization culture that is receptive to lean thinking (Going Lean in Health Care, 2005). A lean culture differs in many ways from traditional organizational culture. Since the traditional and lean way vary widely, a conversion requires re conditioning of all those involved. The following table shows the differences between a traditional and lean culture. Table 1. Traditional Culture versus Lean Culture. (Going Lean in Health Care, 2005). A successful and sustainable lean culture requires new behaviors that start at the very top of the organization. Leadership can drive the Lean culture change process by setting the behavioral expectations. The behavior and actions will only produce a culture change if they are modeled from top to bottom. Leaders must remain committed to the process as a new way of doing business (Rubrich, 2017). They must constantly drive the same message, involve everyone and guide the cultural ... • 4. The Trials And Tribulations Of Racism The most important theme in this book was the trials and tribulations of racism because it was woven in every part of the plot, it contributed to the conflict and resolutions, and gave the story a connection to current events, helping the reader s comprehension. Each twist and turn of the story had hints of association with the struggles of racism. From the trial in court to the discovery of the body to the flashbacks of back stories of the characters, this theme was delicately integrated. In Kabuo Miyamoto s situation, the court was harsh on his case, and he couldn t get himself a very good lawyer, as no one would offer to defend the enemy . They were quick to jump to conclusions. He got hit pretty hard with something fairly flat, Art. Puts me in mind of a type of gun butt wound I saw a few times in the war. One of those kendo strikes the Japs used. Also, even though the Japanese are a main part of the story, they were portrayed as isolated and reclusive. They were very cold to other people, a result of a mindset of superiority. As they only associated with others of their race, they were untrusting and distant from others. Kabuo didn t even trust the lawyer who was to keep him out of prison. As the book switches time frames, there were subtle or evident signs of challenges of racial tension everywhere. You could see how this theme had effects on everything in a slightly different manner, depending on the situation. Many of the conflicts in the book were based off ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Pros And Cons Of Partisan Media The Biased Partisans American journalism has always played both sides of the fence for the American people. In regards to that, news media is always for the people, however for different reasons. One is to make money, and two is to provide the American people with the accurate information of national and international affairs. As a result, partisan news media has become realistically the only choice of news with the big five owning most of the corporations. The discussion amongst scholars is that partisan news makes for more of an engaged citizen, on the other hand it creates bias due to the lack of correlation of intertwining ideas. Taking into consideration both sides of the argument, one thing remains true that there is a correlation between the great divide and the big five partisan news medias. Partisan news has recently become under scrutiny for the biasness that they hold. With CNN being exposed for their fake news and their relentlessness to undermine Trumps presidency. Despite this embarrassment, there have been some pros proclaimed by an author in the article, Public Opinion and the Media: Is Partisan Media Exposure Bad for Democracy? Sides believes that partisan news doesn t create polarize news rather they attract already polarized people (Sides 5). Additionally, Sides states that partisans are the ideal citizens in our democracy (6). With this being said, Sides believes he is onto some correlation between partisan news and participation amongst citizens. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. The Behavioral, Humanistic, And Cognitive Approach There are a few different approaches to how psychologists view things. These include but are not limited to, the behavioral, humanistic, and cognitive approaches. Each approach treats things differently. These different approaches stem from psychologists who didn t think each other was right and so they each came up with their own way of viewing things. None of these approaches are wrong, but they just differ from one another. Jake was diagnosed with an anxiety disorder, but these three approaches have different views on the origins and the treatment of his anxiety. The first of these approaches is the behavioral approach. Behaviorists tend to focus on the things we can actually see, the physical side of things, and follow classical and operant conditioning. In Jakes case, the psychologists would say that Jake s anxiety stems from the environment around him directly. Jakes anxiety would be coming directly from his college classes. The fact that they are stress inducing proves this to the behavioral perspective. The UCS would be the classes or, harder work, the UCR would be the anxiety, and then when paired together the conditioned stimulus is the classes and the conditioned response is the anxiety. As far as treatment goes, from a behavioral perspective negative and positive reinforcement would ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Humanists tend to relate everything back to the patient, and to unlock or show them their full potential, because they believe everyone has that untapped potential. They would try to help Jake mature in his emotions and be the best he could be. They would push Jake to come to face with whatever his stressor is, be then exposed more so to it, so that he wouldn t be so stressed out by it all the time. They might try to get Jake to realize and unlock a potential he didn t know he had, a potential that enabled him to complete these harder classes with ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 8. The Choices Made Effect The Future After graduating high school, life actually begins. The choices made effect the future, a big choice to make is whether to go into the military. The military force closest to civilians is the National Guard. National Guardsmen and women get benefits that normal civilians don t, but the opposite is also true. Differences between time, money, and education should be taken into account when deciding a future in the National Guard. Humans only have so long to live, time wasted is time that cannot be recaptured, time is a currency that without thriftiness can dwindle into nothing. When someone joins the National Guard, he/she signs to work for eight years of their life. Depending on the force joined in the National Guard, the basic training is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Civilians can achieve two Bachelor degrees, if money isn t a problem, in the eight years National Guard members serve. Since civilians do not hold drills on weekends or go to mandatory meetings they can hold a job because their schedule is more manageable (National Guard Members Struggle to Keep Civilian Jobs). Family is less of an issue because civilians are not withheld by a contract to leave the state by the federal government. All of the factors point that civilians are better equipped to save time. Civilians might be better in the department of saving time but money is a different story. During training, National Guard forces are paid as if they are in active duty (What will I get paid). Once the training is over, the money declines for reserve members, but stays relatively constant for active members. The pay is around two hundred to three hundred dollars for reserve members, and one thousand five hundred dollars to two thousand dollars for active members per drill, one weekend a month (What will I get paid). The pay of the National Guard might not be exciting, but the military truly shines in the area of education. At a local college, such as Brigham Young University of Idaho, it would cost around twenty one thousand dollars for schooling (GI Bill Comparison Tool). However, the National Guard can pay for all of it if the member drills and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Henry Kissinger Influence This responsibility is awarded a tremendous amount of prestige by the general public, but it carries with it the enormous burden of making the difficult decisions when they are necessary. The decades of the mid 20th century are amongst some of the most influential in history in terms of political, social, and economic effects on later decades. It was during a period of less than ten years that Henry A. Kissinger occupied a government office in Washington D.C. and so greatly influenced the foreign policy of not just President Nixon, but all Presidents and elected officials to come that were involved in foreign affairs. The foreign policy of the United States was under the watchful, and some would say maniacal supervision, of Kissinger for a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Around four hundred years prior to Kissinger, the proverbial weight of influence and judgement that rest upon a man in power was exemplified perfectly by a different Henry, Shakespeare s King Henry IV, Uneasy lies the head that wears a crown said the King in regard to the difficulties that accompany a positon of power. Henry Kissinger if nothing else was a prolific mind, with an IQ high enough that would more than likely categorize him as a genius he seems to possess an unrelenting drive to be the smartest person in the room. Possibly a result of the constant anti Semitic harassment that he experienced growing up as a Jewish child in Germany during the rise of the Nazi Party, his motivation to succeed was quite incredible. He arrived on the shores of the United States via New York City 1938 and immediately began working in a shaving brush factory to help support his family. • 10. Advantages And Disadvantages Of Intellectual Property TITLES There are three common types of intellectual property; patents, trademarks, and copyrights. First, the patent which is a privilege of the property right owned by the inventor, in other words it is the property right of an invention. The duration of the patent is twenty years from the time when the inventor invented the invention. There are some people who sell a patent product without the authorization of the patent holder; this process is called infringement. If the patent holder discovered this violation then he/she can bring his/her case to the courts. If the law announced the patent s holder right then he/she would claim all of the profit which the infringer had received; in addition to the responsible royalties. In the process of ... The advantages and disadvantages of the intellectual property in general; the first advantage of intellectual property is that the legal fees is not existing, the second advantage is the freedom in developing or changing the idea, the third advantage is the potential to lead the competition because of being the first competitor or first seller, but still indeed the movement in some markets is so fast that the intellectual property or in other words the IP is not worth the wait. There are three disadvantages of the intellectual property in general; firstly, the usage of the idea which was developed by the person who own the IP can be by anyone, secondly, someone else could actually protect it, finally, there is no guarantee that the owner of the intellectual property will be rewarded. The first type of intellectual property is patents which have some advantages and disadvantages; the first advantage is the patent banns legally anyone other than the inventor from using the invention, the second advantage is that only the existence of the patent destroys the competitors, the third advantage is that the patent last twenty years which is an enough time for the inventor to make and develop his/her market with the customers, the fourth and final advantage is that the patents are very attractive for the investors because the competition is almost not effective to the patent holder. As there are some advantages for patents there are also some disadvantages; first, in the process of establishing patent the applicant is required to donate both money and time, second, every new application for a patent has to be researched in order to find that there is no other patent that is no identical patent existing in order to that search the applicant is required to pay fees, thirdly, it is ... • 11. Why Cheating Is Wrong Would you believe that 80 to 95 percent of high school students admit to cheating at least one time in the past year? (2nd source). Students use many tactics for cheating because they do not understand the subject, or they stress the need to be successful. I believe, because of transformation of cheating and lack of disciplinary consequences, cheating has become more prevalent in schools in our society. The first idea to understand about cheating is the many forms of how they are carried out. As technology has grown and evolved to what it is today, it has opened many more ways of cheating to occur and causes the temptation to be much easier to pursue. But first, there is the most basic form of cheating that we all know and it is by simply looking off another student s paper. Whether it would be for homework or a test, it is more commonly used to copy for a test. Next, students may get together and have one person to one half of the homework while the other does the other half, then they both exchange papers and copy each others answers. Through the wonderful world of technology, cheating and plagiarizing is very easy to encounter, even without us realizing it. Students use Internet sources to look up answers for school work and use those answers as their own. What they fail to do is properly source their information. When this happens, they do not give credit to the information source, and it could cost the student a zero for the schoolwork, in the class, or worse they get ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. My Aspirations For This Class Personal Statement My aspirations for this class originally was to study and learn the history of the Romans, in particular the Roman Republic Era, but when I learnt that we were to study Greek culture and society, I was disappointed. Although the class had surprised me and intrigued me, I still was still fascinated and oblivious to Roman history. Therefore I chose Pompey, a famous general and great rival of the legendary Caesar. Other than these two statements, I had not known any background information on Pompey. My only real primary source, Plutarch, was a very direct and informative source, but lacked in the areas which would have helped my report. Plutarch retold Pompey s life from beginning till end, but did not give any biased ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I found I had to sift through a lot of information about his military efforts before I could get to his political actions, which in comparison were short. I overcame this by choosing to rely on the texts and Plutarch, and if I found information coming from other sources which support that, I would use it. If I found new information that wasn t found in the texts, I would not use it. This was my tactic to play it safe and not give out false information and perspective views. My main problem when writing the report was that I had introduced too much of the historical side of Pompey, and ignored his influence on to society, or the society itself, which is the core of this report. I worry that even my final draft is still too much like a biography than a report. I had to also study other important individuals such as Sulla, Caesar and Crassus, all who is just as difficult to study as Pompey. I found that more information about the political ambition of Pompey was given through texts about Caesar than texts about Pompey himself. This was probably because Pompey was a military minded individual, while Caesar relied on politics and the people for his power. • 13. Good Vs Evil Analysis To be human, means having the ability to articulate emotions and ideas that can lead to questioning what is good and what is evil. The theme of good and evil is expressed through the eyes of the man and the boy, who label people as either good guys or bad guys. While the boy has a more simplistic idea of good and evil, the man has a hard time grasping the difference between who the good guys and the bad guys are. He wonders as to what makes him any different from the cannibal blood cults, who like them are just trying to survive. Humans have a distinct need to try and distinguish between bad and good, even when we can t come up with a way of defining them. • 14. Comparing The Iliad And The Odyssey This short essay will identify five traditional epic characteristics that are evident in both the Iliad and the Odyssey. The first epic characteristic evident in both epics is catalogs and genealogies. For instance, Book VIII of the Odyssey features a list of participants in the game (115 125) and the Iliad Book II features a catalog of ships (484 759). Secondly, both epics start in media res. The Odyssey starts ten years after the Trojan War and the Illiad starts nine years after the start of the war. Thirdly, the Muses are prayed to for inspiration to tell the story, which can be observed in the Iliad Book I (1 9) and in the Odyssey Book I (1 31). Fourthly, the main characters also give long formal speeches. For instance, in Book XI of the Iliad, Hector rallies his men with a long speech after Agamemnon is carried off the field (248 291). Similarly, there are extended speeches between Telemachus and the suitors, which compile Book II of the Odyssey. Finally, there is intervention of gods or machinery in both epics. For Odysseus , Poseidon s divine intervention kept him from returning home for several years. Similarly, one of many examples of divine intervention exists fairly in the beginning of the Iliad, when Apollo responds to Chryses appeal to strike the Greek armies with plague. In conclusion, five traditional epic characteristics that are evident in both the Iliad and the Odyssey have been identified in the paragraphs above. 2. Scholars claim Homeric ... • 15. Analysis Of The Poem The Blacker The Berry And ... To many Kendrick Lamar is just another west coast rapper; and to a diehard group of fans he is the king of west coast rap. But on the night of the 2016 Grammy awards, as he limped on stage, chained to his backup dancers, Kendrick suddenly became more than just a rapper. His six minute performance of The Blacker the Berry and Alright from his hit album To Pimp a Butterfly was captivating, electrifying and so powerful it had him trending on Twitter for days to follow. This reaction was the result of shock and praise as mainstream America was introduced to the unapologetic blackness of Kendrick s art. Broadcasted on a network television station, the awards show presented the perfect platform and opportunity for Kendrick to reach out to beyond his usual fan base. As all great artists do, Kendrick realized the rarity of the chance he was given and how he could use the moment to do more than just display his talents as a rapper. His performance gloried in its afrocentrism, with its medley of hip hop, jazz, traditional African costumes and dance. But the message in the lyrics Kendrick rapped, spoke of a uniquely American issue: the high rates of police brutality against black men in the United States. One thing that is true is that rap music has a negative reputation among the mainstream audience because of its heavy references to gang violence, drugs, money, misogyny, sex, etc. Another truth is that rap music has been historically considered a large part of black culture. ... • 16. Jim Hawkins Heroism Noah. Moses. Joshua. Esther. What might all these people share in common? All were heroes in the light of the biblical understanding of the term, heroism. Matthew 20:28 says, Just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many. (NIV). This is a verse that talks about one of the components of a true hero s character. Those that I mentioned above were humble, led others by serving, counted others and their needs more significant than their own, and obeyed God s call for their lives. Of course, they were sinners and still stumbled and fell, but generally they were heroic according to the Bible. But they are truly incorrect in their perception because neither Jim nor Silver qualify as heroes when heroism as explained in the Bible is considered. Jim Hawkins and Long John Silver do not think about others before themselves, lead by serving, and are not humble. They may indeed have instances of good works, but that does not make them heroes. Furthermore, if good works do not stem from the Holy Spirit s doing in your heart and are coming from your own self righteousness, Isaiah 64:6 says, [...] all our righteous acts are like filthy rags [...] (NIV). Some may think that Silver sparing Jim s life and Jim cutting the anchorage and sailing the Hispaniola were heroic acts. But these acts were truly not coming from the heart of God s type of hero. Silver did not really care about Jim s life. I says to myself, you stand by Hawkins, John, and Hawkins ll stand by you. [...] You save your witness, and he ll save your neck! (127); Silver only wanted Jim as a witness for him in court back in England. Silver s motivation was pure selfishness. Likewise, Jim was prideful about how he sailed the Hispaniola to the North inlet after cutting its anchorage. • 17. A Single Story Analysis When Adichie refers to a single story, she is describing that a person or group of people may be disillusioned due to their lack of exposure to other perspectives and ideas. For instance, Adichie states that when she read American and European storybooks as a child, all of the characters were of the white race and exemplified white characteristics, leading to an ignorant and close minded depiction of the world. Moreover, when Adichie began reading African literature, she found that people like me, girls with skin the color of chocolate, whose kinky hair could not form ponytails, could also exist in literature (Adichie 1:07). This illustrates that in both African and European literature, characterization is limited to the demographics known to the writers, the story is restricted based on one s viewpoint. Furthermore, the danger in simply reading or writing a single story is that over time, a person, or group of people, can become bias due to their lack of exposure to cultural and ethnical diversity. For example, Adichie describes that when she met the family of Fide, her houseboy, and saw that one of Fide s brothers had woven a beautiful basket she was taken aback because it had become impossible for me to see them as anything else but poor. Their poverty was my single story for them (Adichie 3:43). This seemingly minor misconception exposes Adichie to the dangers of following a single story , a reality check which changed her perception of the world. Furthermore, the ... The RCAF famously worked with the RCN throughout the Battle of Britain, the attempt by the German war machine to destroy Britain s Royal Air Force (RAF) and prepare for invasion after already conquering most of Europe, including France, which was one of Canada s first campaigns during the first nine months or so of war. All major Mesoamerican cultures proudly presented a jaguar god. Jaguars are known for their power and aggressive strength. They are great hunters and one of the big cats that can tolerate water. Most information that is known about Mayan culture and Mesoamerican societies comes from the countless and scrupulous findings on stone monuments, murals, documents, adorned vases, and conventional sources, where we can survey that the Maya carried out religious exercises with most of these objects. This is evident of the Mayan jaguar lidded vessel from the Fresno Art Museum. Vessels are vases that were used not for just funerary purposes, but also for rituals, offerings, and a plethora of other daily activities. Other important details about jaguar symbolism in Mesoamerican cultures include the fact that the word for jaguar, bahlam, appears in many of the names of Mayan kings than any other animals. This is not surprising since the jaguar is the mighty emperor of crafty force. Andrea Stone and Marc Zender state in their book, Reading Maya Art: A Hieroglyphic Guide to Ancient Maya Paintings and Sculptures, that, The jaguars ferocity made it an ideal insignia of warriors who wore jaguar parts to wear it like a badge of honor, whether it was the head, skin, tail, or paws. This absence of a figure on screen in their house hints at Chiron s lack of a home, a safe place to explore his individuality. Jenkins lighting and sound are also essential to the portrayal of this scene as a key moment in Chiron s struggle with his identity. These elements characterize Paula as an impeding obstacle to Chiron s self discovery. Chiron s face here is highlighted, while his mother s face is covered in shadows. This contrasts the two, indicating that the audience should be on Chiron s side and see the darkness within Paula.
