TECHNOLOGIES I HAVE USED

2. INTRODUCTION
• Over the course of the project I have used a variety of different technologies, over this time I have learnt how to use them
and the pro’s and con’s of each one.

3. 1) MAC COMPUTERS
• While working on this project myself and the group have been working on Mac computers for the first time, we have
used these to extract out pictures and videos from the camera, to edit out videos, to produce music and general
computer stuff. E.g. adding to blog.
• There are many pro’s and con’s to the mac computers;
• Pro’s;
 Good for specialised editing.
 Works fast and well.
 Specialised programs. E.g. garage band good for certain specific tasks.
• Con’s;
 Small tasks take much longer time compared to other computers. E.g. screen shot, copy and paste and looking for files.
 It is difficult to use after only using windows computers.
 Some reliability and network issues.

4. 2) THE CAMERA
• For filming we used the Cannon SLR camera EOS 500D, this was one of the first few SLR camera’s that I have
used as in the past I have only owned bridge cameras.
• The camera had many pro’s and con’s, some of which where;
• Pro’s;
 Good camera capabilities. E.g. good resolution and sharpness in photo.
 Relatively easy and simple to use.
• Con’s
 Compared to a bridge camera not as versatile. E.g. going from an extreme long shot to a extreme close up in that
there is not massive amount of zoom.
 Changing settings on camera I a little confusing. E.g. changing
brightness

5. 3) WINDOWS COMPUTER
• For lots of our blog work and through the planning process we used windows computers, although we did not use
them for editing out video’s they were still important.
• Pros
 Easy to use.
 Used to using then so no need to learn to use them.
• Cons
 Not as good as the macs for specialised editing

6. CAMERA TRIPOD
• We used this for making sure the camera was not shaking whilst filming. This also allowed us more smoother
movements of the camera such as panning. We also used this for high angle shots and low angle shots.
• Pro’s
 Stops shaking of the camera.
 Height can be changed as well as the angle the camera is looking.
 Con’s
 Not very light and a pain to constantly repack up.
 Static so unable to move it easily.

7. FINAL CUT EXPRESS
• We used final cut express for the editing of our video, we used it to add effects onto shot transitions. It allowed us
to cut shots down very accurately in order to make sure everything looked as it should and the video flowed
smoothly.
• Pro’s
 Good for specialised editing.
 Lots of layers so you can add many effects and sounds.
• Con’s
 Takes a lot of learning to be able to use it well.
 Can be frustrating when you are not completely confident with it.

8. YOU TUBE
• During the course of the project myself and the group used you tube in order to upload all of our videos.
• Pro’s;
 Easy to use and compatible with many other programs.
• Cons’s
 Lots of advertisements and takes long time to upload video.

9. GARAGE BAND
• Music wise during our opening sequence could not have been made by someone else. As a result we had to
produce our own music, we did this by using garage band. This program allowed us to create our own piece of
music which fits with the physiological thriller genre.
• Pro’s
 Able to make music easily and is easy to edit.
 Not too much training to learn to use it effectively.
• Con’s
 Only able to be used on apple products, e.g. mac, iPhone and iPad.

10. USB FLASH DRIVE
• In order to move information such as our planning and segments from our opening sequence we relied on USB
sticks. Due to the size of the files we were transferring it was not viable to move files via email. It also meant that
we were able to complete work without the need of an internet connection.
• Pro’s
 Able to carry data quickly and compatible with all operating systems.
 Small and can hold lots of storage space.
• Con’s
 Easy to loose
