Evaluation Question 3: What kind of media institution
might distribute your media product and why?
What is a media institution?
 A media institution is a company that owns different companies involved in mass media
enterprises, such as television, radio, publishing and motion pictures. (cinema)
 Examples of institutions are on the following two slides.
 BRITDOC Foundation UK.
 DISCOP UK.
 Edinburgh International Television Festival UK.
 Melbourne International Film Festival.
 Berlin International Film Festival.
 Hong Kong International Film Festival.
 Annecy International Animated Film Festival.
 Sundance Film Festival.
 Toronto Film Festival.
 Cannes Film Festival.
 Venice Film Festivals.
 BFI Film festival.

Analysis of the Genres
 The main Genres in these films were: Drama,
Fantasy, Action, Adventure and Sci-Fi.
 None of these were the Genre that we used and
based our opening sequence on.
Woking ambassador Cinema
Showing at Ambassadors Woking
Ambassadors Woking
 The ambassadors cinema in Woking shows some
of the same films as Odeon in Guildford, but I
have found they are showing more children’s
films than they do in Guildford.
 This may be because the audiences of the
cinema in Woking are more young than in
Guildford.
BFI Cinema
 The BFI cinema is a Imax cinema that is
independently run but is partnered with Odeon.
 At this current moment the only film being shown
in it is Rogue one: A star wars story.
 This will be because it was one of the most
popular films people had been waiting for.
 I have found that BFI mainly show thrillers and
the most anticipated films of the year.
Showing At BFI
Reading film theatre
 At this Cinema the films that are shown are
mainly documentary films or true story films.
Different film festivals
 These were the films being shown in the BFI film
festival on the 5th October 2016.
Cannes film festival 2016
 These were the films shown at the Cannes film
festival in 2016.
Genre’s of the films
 Out of both sets of films at both of these festivals
I can see that the most common genre there was
the documentary/true story Genre.
 This is because the films shown are mainly up
and coming films from people who make them
and normally wouldn’t get recognised.
Films recently shown on TV in our
Genre.
 Two crime thrillers that were recently shown on TV
(Sky) were Zulu (2013) and Witness (1985).
 This is the blurb for Zulu. Policemen Ali Sokhela and
Brian Epkeen investigate the brutal murder of a young
white woman, apparently provoked by the availability
of a new illegal drug and somehow connected to the
disappearance of black street children.
 This is the blurb for Witness. Harrison Ford has never
been better than as big city cop John Book, who is
assigned to protect an eight-year old Amish boy, the
sole witness to a murder. Boasting an Oscar-winning
script and intelligently directed by Peter Weir.
Where could our film be shown?
 I think that our film could be shown in most
cinemas but mostly Odeon. This is because
Odeon is famous for showing thrillers and still
mainly show them.
 I think a website like Netflix could show our film
because they also have a huge range of thrillers.
