Evaluation 4
1. 4. HOW DID YOU USE NEW MEDIA
TECHNOLOGIES IN THE CONSTRUCTION AND
RESEARCH, PLANNING AND EVALUATION
STAGES?
2. THE TECHNOLOGIES USED DURING THE PRE-
PRODUCTION PROCESS…
• We used YouTube as it was a free platform to gather examples and inspiration from real music videos but also
to upload our own content for example audience feedback vlogs so we could add it to our blogs as research
posts.
• ADVANTAGES: It allows you to see what viewer’s opinions are and what they like through the comment
section under videos.
• You are also able to embed video on the blogs which are really helpful in gathering evidence.
• You are enabled access to an unlimited number of YouTube videos and you are able to incorporate them into
the blogs so it is very helpful as evidence/support when we want to include our own videos or use someone
else's to demonstrate examples of what we are trying to say.
• DISADVANTAGES: The only downside of YouTube is that all of the videos may not be of the highest quality
which is very frustrating as we do not want to include bad quality things into the coursework.
3. • We primarily used the platform, Blogger, which was where we gathered all of our research together.
• ADVANTAGES: Blogger was extremely helpful in that it allowed us to put different pieces of research under
different headings allowing us gather it all easily and made is more easy to find certain pieces of information.
• We were able to efficiently edit posts and document our progress and media development.
• It enables you to have joint control over blog posts and format with other people.
• It is also very easy to embed videos and images allowing the presentation of your work more accessible and
well-organized.
• Easy to chronologically manipulate the order in which to order them.
• DISADVANTAGES: However, Blogger isn’t always reliable as it has sometimes crashed and meant that we
were not able to access our information and sometimes meant that data was lost if they hadn’t been saved
properly.
• I’m very grateful that we had Blogger to collate our coursework as it was relatively straightforward to use
and alternate blogging sites may have been harder to comprehend.
4. • Prezi and PowerPoint were two presentation forms to display information creatively.
• ADVANTAGES: Prezi is a free format and easy and simple to use.
• It is also a very unique and creative way to present information.
• It is also easy to figure out how to embed the Prezi presentations into Blogger.
• DISVANTAGES: However, if one does not have a good internet connection data will be deleted and efforts
will be lost. This is an inconvenience meaning people are less likely to want to use it.
• We found this website called Storyboard That.
• ADVANTAGES: It helped us to create our animatic. It was created through still images and we made it
exactly how we envisioned the music video to appear in terms of shots.
• DISADVANTAGES: However, we were not able to express the exact angles that we wanted to because it was
in a 2D format.
• I believe that using it really helped advance our skills in terms of creativity as we got positive feedback on
this feature in particular. It was helpful because it gave us a representative example of what our real video
would appear as.
5. • Then we used Final Cut Pro to merge of the still images together to create an animatic that was
matched to the audio track of the song, meaning that the video length was more realistic and gave us an
idea of how long the final product would be. From the feedback for the animatic, we realised that we
would have to modify each shot during the production process to see what would look more
professional.
• ADVANTAGES: Final cut pro was the best learning experience next to the cameras because it was very
fun to learn how to edit and cut footage together.
• it enabled us to manipulate the three aspects of what the audience hears, sees and
• It enabled our work to look way more professional.
• DISADVANTAGES: Sometimes it would be incredibly slow which really put pressure on us when we
didn't have much time.
• Initially it was very hard o get the hang of because I had never had experience using it.
6. • We used SoundCloud to document our responses to the audience feedback that we gathered.
• ADVANTAGES: It is very easily accessible and has high quality so it easy to understand exactly what is being said
and who is saying it.
• It records in one take which can be very time-friendly and also looks very presentable once embedded onto the
blog.
• It is a new interesting media platform to include in our research and coursework as it gives us a good variety.
• DISADVANTAGES: The fact that it records in one take can be a negative thing as you may wish you could cut and
edit it so it were perfect but SoundCloud does not enable you to do that.
• It can be seen as limited as you aren't able to make real videos but only audio.
• Throughout the process of documenting our work using all of these technologies, we learnt how to organize
and lay out our work efficiently and clearly. We also learnt how to label posts being able to clearly see what
work each of us did and what we individually needed to improve upon.
7. • We also used the IMAC.
• ADVANTAGES: It was a massive help I already found the iMacs very easy and straightforward to
use.
• They have auto-save so we were assured that all of our hard work wasn't deleted if there was a
technical problem with the computer.
• We were able to access al of the initial sites and oft wares to help us with our media education
overall.
• DISADVANTAGES: However, sometimes certain sites on the computer would be very slow and
would not let us access our blogs effectively because everyone in the class would be using it at the
same time.
8. THE TECHNOLOGIES USED DURING THE
PRODUCTION PROCESS…
• During the production process we used a wide range of equipment to carry out the filming. We used the
Canon DLSR camera to gather our initial raw footage by which we were able to construct all the pieces
together to create a profession final piece.
• ADVANTAGES: We were able to obtain very good quality footage using it.
• We had a range of different lenses which enabled us to achieve very clear visuals.
• We were also able to adjust the focus which helped in the quality of the footage.
• We were also able to adjust the lighting and make sure that the camera would pick up the white colour in
the environment in terms of white balance.
• The camera itself is very portable and so made it easier to transport or shift to different areas whilst
filming.
• DISADVANTAGES: The battery pack ran out very quickly as filming was a very long process. This meant we
used additional cameras and then recharged them together. Doing this was also helpful to acquire a wider
range of angles.
9. • We used the microphone which was a new and professional so it was an interesting experience
when testing it out and seeing the difference in sound.
• ADVANTAGES: It was very easy to attach and detach for the most part, although at one point we
forgot to actually switch it on which meant we lost valuable footage and wasted battery.
• We were able to achieve retsina sound and reduce the background noises.
• DISADVANTAGES: The mic wasn't able to totally block out the background noise we had to mute our
footage as a last resort which wasn't ideal.
• Sometimes the mic plug would come out of the camera without anyone noticing and we had to
reshoot the footage.
10. THE TECHNOLOGIES USED DURING THE POST-
PRODUCTION PROCESS…
• At the post-production stage, we used Final Cut Pro to edit all of our footage together really
made the video look much more professional as we were able to manipulate what the
audience hears and sees in a way so that it made sense and was really in tune to what we
envisioned. However, sometimes the software would be extremely slow and this put pressure
on us as we didn’t have much time to film and edit the video.
11. • For our first print product of the magazine advert, our synergistic link came in the form of the
psychedelic tongue dominated the advert. It was created by Anna Clendening for the release
of her EP. This was recreated using Photoshop by drawing it out ourselves and then adding in
each of the colors in order to recreate our own style of a replication. Our other synergistic
link came in the form of or calligraphy, which we used at the top of the magazine advert as
well as at the top of the website page. We used these synergistic links in order to connect the
products easily and create a market for the product. WIX allowed us to easily embed all of
our synergistic elements and cater to our needs in terms of color and layout. For example,
having the title central and aligned with the music video as well as the logo.
