Compare and Contrast the work of Harry Harlow and Mary Ainsworth on understanding attachment
Attachment is a lasting secure and positive feeling that bonds one person to another, one of the
strongest forms of attachment is thought to develop between a mother and child. Many
psychologist, sociologist, physicians and psychoanalysts have sought to explore the fundamental
nature of attachment and how it had evolved. Within this essay I shall examine The origins of
attachment Psychologist who seek to measure it The methodology used how it has consequently
helped us understand attachment So how does attachment develop between a mother and child?
Psychoanalytical theorists such as Sigmund Freud J.B Watson stated that attachment was... Show

These finding were revolutionary at the time and went against most child rearing attitudes and
practices. Nevertheless, Ainsworth initially was far from convinced about the validity of firstly
Bowlby s ethological account of attachment, secondly how Harlow s findings can be related to
humans. However after conducting her own observational study of mother infant attachment on
Ugandan families (1953) the relevance of Bowlby s work became apparent. Just like in one of
Harlow s variations experiment Ainsworth found that the Ugandan mothers acted like a safe base to
their babies, as did the terry cloth mothers (Custance 2010), consequently the more maternal
sensitive the mothers were to their babies signals the more confidant and explorative the children
became. Somewhat of a paradox to the then common pedagogic advice of limiting or avoiding
bodily contact in attempt to avoid spooling children, as advocated by Freud and J. B.Watson and
the insistence of the then dominant behaviourist school of psychology that emotions were
negligible. Ainsworth concluded from her observations that qualitatively distinct patterns of
attachment evolve between infants and their mothers in the opening years of life. Although a
majority of these patterns are marked by comfort and security, some are tense or conflicted, and

The Allegory Of The Cave
In the allegory of the cave Plato tries to show us two scenarios where the prisoners experience
emotional and intellectual revelations throughout their lives. Plato s theory was that the ones who
truly understand knowledge should guide the ignorant people out of their unenlightened states of
being and into true knowledge. The cave symbolizes the people who think that knowledge come
from what they see and hear in the world. It also indicates people that make assumptions about life
based on the substantial things they experience through hearing and seeing. Plato s main focus was
to convey a story to the world about the difference between beliefs and truth. Anyone can believe in
something they see, but that belief is really just a shadow of the truth.
Already from Plato s illustration of the prisoners, one can tell that they have very little knowledge
of their surroundings. Their lack of knowledge restricts them from knowing what s going on in the
real world. The prisoner s assumption of reality is all the shadows that appear on the wall. As far
as life goes, they believe the shadows are all there is and they don t question it. Plato referred to
it as eikasia signifying the lowest level of knowledge. The prisoners don t know any better so
they don t strive to observe anything else other than the shadows and the noises. In today s
society the eikasia states of mind can be illustrated by narrow minded people, who are set in their
own views in life and do not wish to expand

Slaughter s Essay Why Women Still Can T Have It All
In her article Why Women Still Can t Have It All, Anne Marie Slaughter comes to the conclusion
that women can have it all, but the present structure of today s society has made it unfeasible.
Slaughter, a high profile government employee, was appalled when she received supercilious and
demeaning remarks regarding her stepping down; ultimately choosing her family over her career
(Slaughter). Choosing family may be an easy choice for some, but when today s society has
placed an exceeding amount of value in ones career, some are faced with an unimaginable decision.
For women to finally have it all, a family and a career, Slaughter argues that we must rediscover the
pursuit of happiness, redefine what it means to be successful, and reacquire family values.
Slaughter claims that society has redefined the value of childcare, and is irritated that employers
make conjectures, of equally qualified employees, based upon whether or not they are a parent. For
instance, she compares a marathon runner to a parent, who are both equally qualified employees.
She continues to emphasize that to be both a parent and a marathon runner takes the same amount
of dedication and determination. Slaughter insists, The discipline, organization, and sheer
endurance it takes to succeed... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The American definition of a successful professional is someone who can climb the ladder the
furthest in the shortest time, generally peaking between ages 45 and 55 (Slaughter). Because life
expectancy has increased, couples marry and have kids later, people retire earlier, and have
multiple jobs and careers, climbing the ladder furthest in the shortest amount of time is not the best
way to achieve success. In Slaughters eyes the path to success is not a straight upward slope, it is a
combination of irregular stair steps with periodic

Compare And Contrast The Minority Report
The text The Minority Report by Philip K. Dick is a commentary on the concept of innocence
and one s freedom of choice. It is often said that stories change significantly when becoming
movies. The movie by the same name Minority Report directed by Steven Spielberg is based off
the same ideas and concept the unpredictability of life and choices. It is a prime example of how
the short storyand movie differ even if the basic concepts remain unchanged. The movie and short
story share many similarities. Some of the similarities include the themes of morality with their
legal system precrime, security and access to information, crime and punishment, and fate verse

Essay on Benito Cereno by Herman Melville
Benito Cereno by Herman Melville
In many stories, the main characters carry the plot of a story throughout the book. The author often
expresses the message that he desires the reader to receive through their thoughts and actions. Yet,
the minor characters often have a large affect on the outcome of the book, although it is not quite
as obvious to the reader. By altering the thoughts or actions of the main characters, a seemingly
minor player in a novel may actually, at closer examination, be an important player in the plot. In
the short story Benito Cereno, by Herman Melville, the minor character, Atufal, largely influenced
Captain Delano, who is a main character. Delano s assessments and opinions aboard the Spanish

Cereno as to why he was treating the slave with such cruelty. Atufal s performance caused Delano
to believe that Cereno was in control of the happenings on the boat, and that his prior concerns
about the role of the Negroes on the San Dominick should be put to rest.
Delano did not do much more than shortly entertain the idea that the blacks were, in fact, in
control of the Spanish vessel because of what he witnessed in the situation of Atufal. Atufal
affected the plot because he caused Delano to doubt his suspicions, which therefore played a
major role in the actions of this main character. The observations of Atufal by Delano greatly
helped to form his attitude towards the Negroes upon the ship. The supposed cruelty of Don
Cereno towards the slave Atufal created an image of obedience by the blacks in Delano s mind.
Delano thought, But [the Negroes] were too stupid (177). Perhaps if Atufal had not implanted
images of white supremacy aboard the ship, Captain Delano might have acted sooner in helping to
return the ship to Benito Cereno. In the classic story Benito Cereno, by Herman Melville, the minor
character Atufal greatly affected the opinions of the main character, Captain Delano, which
therefore plays a major part in the plot. Many times attention is not paid to the minor characters of
a novel; however, they are essential to the development of

Francis Bacon as Shakespeare
Francis Bacon as Shakespeare For almost four hundred years the question of who truly wrote the
works attributed to William Shakespeare has been studied meticulously by many scholars and
historians. There have been many well qualified contenders, including Sir Francis Bacon. Because
of the incredible number of coincidences between Shakespeare and Bacon, it is obvious that Bacon
wrote Shakespeare. Firstly, the actor William Shakespeare, who is the supposed author of
Shakespeare s works, could not have written them. He had no formal education after thirteen,
was from a small provincial town, was a professional actor, had two daughters who were
illiterate, didn t mention any of his works in his will, and whose only surviving handwriting is
six signatures on legal documents (Rubenstein 69). Shakespeare is considered one of the
greatest authors in history, and without a formal education the intricacy of his work would be
impossible. It should also be put in consideration that many of Shakespeare s works were not
only published but edited after his death. From the publication of The Taming of the Shrew in
1594 to the publication of the First Folio in 1623, 4,936 new lines were added to the plays, a
majority of which were added posthumously (sirbacon). This in itself is evidence enough to
disprove Shakespeare entirely. Unlike William Shakespeare, Sir Francis Bacon was very well
qualified to have written Shakespeare s works. Bacon was a highly educated Member of

Short Essay About The Aztecs
The Aztecs were a complex civilization, I don t know much about the Aztec Civilization, I only
know the outline. The reason why I chose the Aztecs is because I played a few video games
growing up playing as that civilization, and they have always made me more interested in them.
What I know, is eventually they came upon a spot with an eagle sitting on a cactus with a serpent
wrapped in it s legs, that s where Tenochtitlan would be built. Montezuma was their leader, he was
fierce and strict, but at the same time kind hearted and understanding, but nobody mistook his
kindness for weakness, except for the Spanish. The Aztecs would fight enemies and enslave the
rebellions and sacrifice them. The ones that cooperated, would have to pay tributes every few
weeks though. Those people could live a normal life, just under Azteccontrol. They built things
called skyfarms. Those farms were very well designed and worked in the desert setting they lived
in. The Aztecs... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It would also be nice to find out how they survived and thrived so well in that area. The ground
was almost sand, and the weather was dry and warm. I still want to find out more about their
religion, why did they believe they needed to make a sacrifice every day for the sun to rise the
next morning? Did they ever skip a day and know the sun rises the next day? Or did they never
find out? What I want to know the most though, is how their leader Montezuma allowed the
Spanish in with open arms, and let them harass him and his economy, and he let it happen, was
he brainwashed into thinking the Spanish were the new leaders? The last thing I would like to
know about is the rise and fall of the empire, where did they get all of their resources to build
those spectacular buildings? How long did it take for them to finally get defeated by the

The Effect of Different Substrate Concentrations on the...
The Effect of Different Substrate Concentrations on the Rate of Reaction
My aim is to investigate what happens when concentration of Hydrogen Peroxide is changed and
how it affects the rate of reaction when it is broken down by the enzyme catalase (H2O2 Г 2H2O
+ O2)
Scientific knowledge.
Enzymes are biological catalysts, regulating the rate at which chemical reactions take place without
the enzyme being altered in the process.
Enzymes bind temporarily to one or more of the substrate molecules of the reaction they catalyse.
Enzymes work by lowering the activation energy required for a reaction to proceed. In order to do
so, and enzyme molecule must unite even ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Each catalase molecule works best at a certain pH and temperature. The values for pH, and
temperature, which give an enzymes greatest rate of reaction, are known as the optimum values.
The activity of enzymes decreases away from these values. This is due to the importance of the
tertiary structure in its function.
As the temperature of the solution containing the hydrogen peroxide and catalase molecules
increases so does the rate of reaction. This occurs because as the temperature increases the kinetic
energy of the molecules also increases. As the molecules are moving around faster there are more
collisions which lead to reactions between catalase molecules, and hydrogen peroxide molecules.
This effect continues up to the optimum temperature. Above the optimum temperature, the rate of
reaction decreases, as the increasing kinetic energy causes the hydrogen bonds, holding the
structure of the enzyme together, to break. This causes the active site to change shape. This is
known as denaturation. The hydrogen peroxide substrate molecule can therefore no longer fit the
active site, and the rate of reaction decreases until all the catalase molecules are denatured, and the
rate of reaction is zero.
The pH affects the ionic charges, on some of the R groups present in the amino acids, making up
the catalase molecule. Therefore as a result of

Racial Profiling Essay
How Would You Feel If You Were a Victim Of Racial Profiling? Racial profiling is a serious
issue of social importance in the United States. This topic has become a significant issue due to
the fact that it discriminates against one of the most basic human rights the freedom to be
whoever they want and believe in whatever they want. It also makes many people feel
uncomfortable when being searched, pulled over, and looked at as if they were criminals when
all they are guilty of is having a different skin color or a different religion. Even if in some cases
racial profiling assists police to arrest people for committing real crimes, it makes a larger amount
of innocent individuals feel as if they were criminals; therefore, I am against it. Racial profiling is
any police action taken based on racerather than on behavior, evidence, or information provided
about an individual and law enforcement should start taking action against it because it is not
humane in any shape or form.
Some level of racial profiling has probably always existed in the United
States. The article What is Racial Profiling? found on the wiseGeek.com website, speaks to the
general public by providing information about racial profiling. They say that many people get
pulled over or suspected of criminal acts based on their ethnicity, religion, or skin color. In addition,
during an investigation of a crime, police tend to use race as a principal if not the only factor in
determining who is suspicious of

Compare And Contrast Nothing Gold Can Stay And The Outsiders
Imagine being separated into two different groups based on what side of town one lives on and
what one wears, then imagine having to act a certain way when one feels a whole different way.
In the book The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton, there are two groups, Socs and the Greasers, they have
a rivalry with each other; the Greasers are known for having bad reputations that will never go
anywhere in life and are poor, while the Socs can be disrespectful to the community, but an asset to
the community the next day, and with a lot of money. In the novel, S.E. Hinton includes Robert
Frost s poem Nothing Gold Can Stay to focus on the poem s deeper meaning. When examining
Robert Frost s Nothing Gold Can Stay and S.E. Hinton s The Outsiders, one can analyze the usage
of color, lost of innocence, and identity change. To begin with, the use of color in both the poem
and the novel has a deeper meaning than just what colors turn into other colors. In the poem, the
colors are more than just the different color cycle plants go through. The changing of colors
during season changing also means the passing of life and how everyone s growing up through
the different stages of winter, spring, summer, and autumn. In autumn one is a baby, in the winter
one is six or seven in the spring one is twelve or thirteen, in the summer one is seventeen or
eighteen, and by the fall comes around one is now an adult ready to live on their own. For
example, Nature s first green is gold (Frost 1); When one is

Life of Workers in Staithes Essay
Close by the giant textile mill row on row on row of drab terrace houses huddle together as if to
fend off the bitter cold of a winter night in December of 1811. Night obscures the narrow streets
of the industrial village of Holmeside as morning s hesitant light pokes through the canopy of
dismal clouds. Inside the mill, workers have been toiling for hours. They rose from their beds
early and put on their work clothing. The lucky ones ate a crust of bread and drank the remains
of yesterday s milk before stepping out into the chilly darkness to make their way to the mill.

All that is human is troubled by their failure to benefit except by Death s summons. The portal of
the grave is their only means of escape.
Some said the disadvantages of the poor were their own making. Many believed that the
working poor were not fully human, but a bestial and inferior species, unlike themselves,
specifically supplied by Providence as servants through whose labour they ran profitable
enterprises. The poor were seen as a raw material in the same class as wool and cotton. They were
cheap to employ and easy to replace. Those that looked down on workers failed to see that working
conditions in textile mills were why workers were afflicted with conditions for which no treatment
existed.
These early morning people move in procession through the streets, uniting with others at street
junctions to form broader streams, merging with other streams as they neared the mill to form a
grand current of humanity closing on the massive iron gates of the mill that were symbols of
imprisonment. Once inside the gates, workers fanned out to go to various work stations to work as
machine minders in the manufactory. This was the common condition of men, women, and
children in the hard textile country of Yorkshire s West Riding. The characters of Yorkshire folk
were forged in the crucibles of harsh terrain and exacting industrial environments.

Pericles Funeral Oration Essay
Pericles of the Funeral Oration outlines his ideal of Athens, and what makes an Athenian, which
was his ideal person. Plato in the Apology, Crito, and the Phaedo describes the trial and execution
of Socrates. Athens after the second Peloponnesian War is cling to an unstable democracy, and
extremely fearful of anything that threatens their way of life. Pericleswould view this Athens as a
shell of its former self. This can be best seen through the trial and execution of Socrates. Socrates
could be described as the ideal Athenian, he strove to make Athens and its people better, yet he was
executed for having different ideas. Pericles given the opportunity to evaluate Athens and Socrates,
during this time, could make the argument that Socrates is akin to his ideal of Athens and that

They had suffered defeat in the second Peloponnesian Warand were grappling with the struggle of
stabilizing their fragile democracy. They believed that something like political philosophy could

brought up on charges of corrupting the youth, making the worse argument better, and teaching
things of the earth and the sky. During the trial, Socrates had every justification, but in the end, it
was not enough to save his life. Socrates argues that the laws are intended to make Athenians better

The Crucible And The Scarlet Letter
The quote To belong is to understand the tacit codes of the people you live with from Michael
Ignatieff is explaining that with every group of people in society, there is a certain set of logical
unspoken rules that are not written rules. The understanding and following of these rules will
allow you to belong in most groups. Unspoken rules are what make a group who they are. The
Crucible and The Scarlet Letterboth have perfect examples for the relationship between unspoken
rules and belonging. Also, these works take place in the 17th centuryaround the same area. This
creates almost the same setting for both stories where the unspoken rules will be almost identical.

It was just something you did not do if you wanted to belong. John Proctor, whose wife was falsely
accused of witchcraft, was not taken seriously due to the fact that he did not attend church
services very often, and he also worked on certain Sunday s. The fact that he had broken these
unspoken rules made it harder for people to believe he was of God and telling the truth about his
wife. These examples help show the relationship between unspoken rules leading to belonging.
The disregard for unspoken rules cost lives at this time in history. In The Scarlet Letter, an
adulterer named Hester was shunned by the church and society. This book also has the church
as the main group. The main unspoken rule dealt with was adultery. Hester s husband had sent
her ahead to America. She had an affair with a priest and this was just something that you did
not do, and it was a logical unspoken rule that was broken, and, therefore, she was unable to
really belong in this town for a very long time. The girl was so shunned, they put an A on her
clothes. This was the epitome of humiliation. At this time, no one would associate with a girl like
Hester. There was never a feel of belonging after that A was placed on her clothes. Hester s actual
husband who disguised himself as Roger Chillingworth to avoid the humiliation. Dimmesdale was

Brand Preference of Gym Enthusiasts on Energy Drink Products
CHAPTER I
THE PROBLEM AND ITS BACKGROUND
INTRODUCTION
Brand preference is one of the most important factors to consider in having a product competition in
the market. Most of the company tries to use their brand image, brand name, and brand uniqueness
as their competitive advantage, to make their product be on top of the list of other existing brand.
Other companies also tries to use advertising that may be of higher cost but may recommend that it
will catch the attention of the viewer and be the consumer of such product, especially with
exaggerated advertisement. Advertising gives a variety of information about a certain product, and
can be the basis on how consumers choose their preference of the brand that they will purchase. This

China Is The Second Large Economy
Nowadays, everyone says China is the second large economy in the world. In 2015, GDP of
China reached $11,385 billion with a growth rate of 6.9%. Some people predict that one day
GDP of China will exceed GDP of U.S. and that day will come soon. Unquestionably, China is
growing rapidly and the Chinese economy is doing well, but does this mean the Chinese citizen
is at high utility level? The answer is no. The fact is that most of the Chinese citizens today are
facing the problem of unbalanced income and prices, which means the living costs are too high
while the salary rate is relatively low. Besides, China is developing rapidly these years, Chinese
people are demanding a better life which they want to eat better food, have a better education, and
live in a better house. Therefore, people in China today are confronting the problem. Why is this
problem occurring? Other than the high population rate of China, there are few more reasons: 1)
high taxrate, which cause high living expenses; 2) low social benefits, which mainly embodied in
high medical expenses; 3) unaffordable housing price, which some people cannot even afford a
house with mortgage, other people can only barely afford it but with overload pressure; 4) low
salary rate due to variety reasons; and 5) export too much products to U.S. causes inflation which
decreases RMB purchasing power, thus, prices for goods and services in the market increasing and
people can buy less with their salary. According to current

V s character type is a complex one to say the least. He is a terrorist, anarchist, philosopher and a

terrorist and still be good, but this factor is what sets V apart from traditional heroes. It is the
fact that the world he lives in is so corrupt and power hungry that he can destroy building and still

understanding and intimidation does she truly realize what it s like to live without fear. Secondary
characters types are equally important. V s driving force throughout the whole movie is his

Examples Of Push And Pull Factors On Mexican Immigration
Mexico is an extremely important country, as far as immigration is concerned, in the world. It has
a large amount of emigrants that leave their country each year. Many of these emigrants go to the
United States. This has caused the Mexican immigration issue to become very popular. After
research, we have found out a lot about the country of Mexico. One fact about Mexico is that it has
multiple push and pull factors. A few examples of some of Mexico s pull factors are because of
a beautiful landscape, lower costs of living, and affordable properties. These are all major
factors in the moving process. Unfortunately, Mexico has a large amount of push factors as well.
Some of these push factors are urbanization in the West, violence, and migration policies. It is
clear by the amount of people migrating from, and to, Mexico that these are big factors in
migration. According to Fox News, The Pew Research Center found that slightly more than 1
million Mexicans and their families, including American born children, left the U.S. for Mexico
from 2009 to 2014 (Fox News). This shows how much pull factors are involved in Mexican
immigration. Push and pull factors are a huge part of one of the world s biggest immigration
issues, but their are other factors as well.
One of those factors in Mexican immigration is the landscape of the country. According to

imitating his household. In this scene you finally understand why he acts the way he does. John
is a classic bad boy . His constant antagonizing is part of his act to keep people at an emotional
distance. John alternates between wisecracking and indulging his genuine anger, digging into his
messed up family life. Before this scene you just see him as a boy who does everything for
attention, tries to act cool all the time and does not care about anyone but himself (Hughes).
The movie explains that John s delinquent tendencies come from his issues with his father. In this
scene he does an imitation of what he thinks Brian s family must be like and then Andrew asks him
how his life is, and that is when John explodes. John begins yelling about how

2081 Unit 1 Essay
The film 2081 directed by Chandler Tuttle is an adaption of the short story Harrison Bergeron by
Kurt Vonnegurt Jr. Which looks into a dystopian society which everyone is finally equal.
Vonnegurt wanted to show us how absurd the world will become when everyone is equal and
Tuttle has convey that perfectly in his adaption. The story is told from George Bergeron
perspective as he watches his son Harrison performs his act of rebellion and his own requiem.
Tuttle uses Harrison to criticise how absurd perfect equality is and uses George to show how
media can control our lives and dictate how we view of our society. Tuttle uses various film
techniques to emphasise character s emotion and their view about the society they are in. In the

After Harrison got shot on television, George is left with sadness of his son s death but
immediately forgets about it after the headphone rings. The overall effect of this scene is to
challenge our moral of parent s responsibility of a child and also create a sense of imprisonment.
The scene starts with a mid shot of George which show his expression of sadness towards his son
s death on the television. Then the diegetic sounds of the headphone come in to interrupt his
thoughts. The diegetic sounds combines with jump cuts create the effect of memories and
thoughts scattering away. We can see George s pain from the sound alternating with flashback
of Harrison being taken away. Tuttle wanted to emphasises to the audience again that in order to
achieves perfect equality, this is how absurd the world will be. Parent s will have to forget that
children s death right in front of their eyes or how the government is shooting innocence people
on television. The following shots create a contrast between George and Hazel. When we see
George in a full shot, the composition on the frame has the right half and the top part covered.
This works with lead lines to show George s imprisonment and how is his confine to area in the
box. Tuttle uses this to symbolise George s view of the current society. He knows that the
government is controlling him but as he says nothing we can do about it then to Hazel s suggestion
of taking of the handicaps.

Chivalry originated in the medieval ages, during a time of great stories. Like the most popular

How Not Deal With An Identity Crisis
How Not To Deal With an Identity Crisis Identity is a common trope in most literature. One
reason this maybe is because it is a very relatable topic, as many people also struggle with their
identity. Having an identity crisis to mean many different things. It can mean struggling with
inner demons, being what other people expect and not who one is, or trying to find out where
one belongs in the world. Everyone can say that they felt like this at one time or another in their
lives. Sometimes struggling with identity can cause rash decisions with negative outcomeS.
Many people struggle with identity and deal with it in different ways including the characters in
these books. I m times people do with identity in the wrong way and try to separate themselves
into different embodiments of themselves. Typically, there is a nice and respectable side that
many people are fond of, and there is also a dark and twisted side that most people don t see.
This is the case with Dr. Jekyll. Dr. Jekyll felt that he needed to take a potion to transform
himself into something else so that he could act on his urges that would otherwise make him feel
guilty make others think less of him. Jekyll actually liked being Hyde. When I would come back
from these excursions, I was often plunged into a kind of wonder at my vicarious depravity. This
familiar that I called out of my own soul, and sent forth alone to do his good pleasure, was a being
inherently malign and villainous; his every act and

The French Revolution was inspired by the ideas from the Enlightenment. The main goal that the
Enlightenment tried to reach was to promote scientific reasoning and end the injustice in the
way governments were performing. The French Revolution was mainly a series of upheaving s
aiming to gain social and political reforms, along with ways to govern more justly. Due to the
previous era, being the Enlightenment, French Revolutionists saw that Enlightenment
participants, such as Rousseau, Voltaire, Robspierre ,and Beccaria, along with works such as
Declaration of the Rights of Man and multiple posters, took a step towards new reforms and
follow in their path and ideas. These French Revolutionists succeeded in some ways, yet
remained unsuccessful in more ways. Document 1 from Jean Jacques Rousseau concludes that a
man needs to control his own freedoms. Rousseau, a philosopher, believed in a Republic
because he believed that people need to have more power and individual freedoms must be
improved. In his Social Contract, he calls for a sovereign, which will benefit the good of an
individual, but even better the overall group with intentions that aim for the common good. A need
for a change in government was wanted because a monarch rule was not wanted. A new type of
government, a provisional republic formed after King Louis Philippe was abdicated, gave universal
male suffrage and ended slavery and the death penalty. Those reforms were some the lasted

Healthcare clinics are under a great deal of pressure to reduce costs and improve quality of service.
In recent years, healthcare organizations have concentrated on preventive medicine practices and
have tried to reduce the length of time that patients stay in a hospital. Outpatient services have
gradually become an essential component of healthcare. Organizations that cannot make their
outpatient component cost effective are finding themselves financially burdened in this ever
changing industry (Caldwell, 2005).

As a result of this, when one patient takes longer to process, the Arrival Queue becomes a
bottleneck. Patients begin to stack up behind one another while they wait for the other patients to
be processed. This is point in the process that needs improvement. By fixing the time it takes to
process each patient and removing or reordering certain steps, the cycle time could be reduced and
the bottleneck eliminated.
Work Process Improvement
As stated earlier, the cost for health care is rising for both employers and employees; therefore,
both employers and employees are seeking for medical groups that provide systems of very well
coordinated care. Coordinating care creates significant advantages for patient by delivering high
quality care efficiently, so that patients get the most for their health care dollars. When services are
integrated and carefully designed across the stream of care, this thoughtfulness up front eliminates
duplication of processes and inappropriate services. Patients, employers and medical groups benefit
in terms of better health and streamlined costs associated with the care.
Survey after survey suggest that the biggest frustrations for patients are:
1.Appointment access
2.Phone Access
3.Getting information about their test results
4.Understanding how to use medical group systems (referrals, eligibility, business department, etc.)

The Double Meaning Of A Fairy Tale Or Myth
By pausing and closely analyzing works of literature, we may discover a meaning that was not
obviously revealed through a simple surface reading. These subtle meanings are referred to as
double meanings. Strategies for determining the double meaning of a fairy tale or myth include
close examination of the language, the form and content of dialogue within the text, and in this case
observing the subtle differences in word picture combinations. In American Born Chinese, the

loyalty and honesty so he will not be harassed. Later Jin then realizes that his transformation is
not worth abandoning his principles, and he goes to make amends with Wei Chen. The Monkey
King says, I came to serve as your conscience as a signpost to your soul (Yang, 221). This shows
that deep down in his conscience at his very core, Jin knows that this is not right. Furthermore,
this tale teaches us about forgiveness in conflicts between friends. Wei Chen consistently
forgives Jin for his rudeness. For example, Jin tells him, This isn t Taiwan, you doof! Stop acting

Why Did The Big Bang Theory Exist
There are many possible conclusions that scientists may come to when looking at the universe s
beginning. Although we can not go back in time to look at the past, there are many logical theories
which could determine what happened. Throughout the many possible scientific theories for the
origin of the universe, the big bangtheory is the most logical about how the universe began due to
how the universe is expanding, leftover energy, and the abundance of certain elements. The big
bang theory is the leading explanation about how the universe began. This phenomenon shows that
the universe started in a small singularity which grew to what we know today. A singularity is a

Tudor England was time of rebellion and turmoil. The head of Tudor England ,the monarch, was

Across the countryside of South East England he constructed 55 palaces and employed Holbein a
German artist to create imposing and powerfully striking portraits of himself. These powerful
portraits were also imposed on coinage. Coins in Henry VIII s reign showed Henry wearing his
imperial crown. In Edward IV s reign, even though he was a mere child,he was depicted wearing
full battle armour on royal coins. Coinage was vitally important in maintaining political stability.
For the majority of the Tudor population the portraits stamped on to their coins were the only
visual image they had of the monarch. If the coins showed a powerful and wealthy portrait of the
ruling monarch then this is what the laity would presume the monarch was, therefore this was an
effective way of keeping political support of the common people.
Even though coins gave the laity an idea of what the monarch looked like,it was still as equally
important for the monarch to show himself in person to his subjects. During summer months it
was not unusual for the whole court to regularly move from place to place on progress. These
processions gave a chance for the laity to to have a glance at the royal person and also gave the
monarch a chance to entertain and impress local gentry who did not have access to the royal court

Listening to his friends, Hiro does not kill Callaghan and it turns out to be a great decision that
he made. This theme in this movie is relevant today because many people often feel the need to
seek revenge if something bad was inflicted upon them. For example, when my brother punched

Resolving Conflicts in Space Resource Commercial Exploration and Utilization with The Outer
Space Treaty of 1967
Author: Erin L. Williamson
Abstract
As technology progresses, so too does humanity s reach. November of 2015 saw a new Act signed
into law that promotes commercial activity in space. The activities of acquisition and use of
asteroid and space resources must be in compliance with the Outer Space Treaty. This paper reviews
the new Act and identifies three areas where the Act may be in conflict with the Treaty: threatening
scientific investigation in outer space, appropriating space resources, and introducing potential
harmful biological contamination. Here, the reasons for their conflict are described and possible

citizens (U.S. Commercial Space Launch Competitiveness Act, 2015).
The Act is a boon to Planetary Resources, which is one of only two companies known to be
actively developing technologies to mine near Earth asteroids for their water, hydrocarbons, and
precious metals. Planetary Resources (n.d) states on its website that it intends to deliver these
resources back to Earth. However, Deep Space Industries, Inc., (2016) the other asteroid mining
company, alternatively proposes to keep the resources in situ to spur human expansion into the solar
system. The mining technologies and resources left in situ will likely encourage other space
companies like SpaceX to strengthen their pursuit of exploration or colonization missions to Mars.
While these companies, buoyed now by additional support from the U.S. federal government,
enthusiastically pursue a space age gold rush , little concern appears to be given to their
significance in regard to the 1967 Treaty on Principles Governing the Activities of States in the
Exploration and Use of Outer Space, Including the Moon and Other Celestial Bodies. This treaty is
colloquially referred to as the Outer Space Treaty. There are multiple points of potential conflict
with this important document, which has been signed by 104 countries, in the practices of the
nascent commercial space industry of the United States. These conflicts include: threatening
scientific investigation in outer space,

Logical Fallacies In The Media
All of the media address the subject of logical fallacies they define them, give examples of their
most common forms, and offer tips to avoid them as well as to identify them in our writing. A
good argument is one that contains good premises that effectively back up a conclusion. All points
must be presented in a logical way and must apply to reason. However, often arguments can
contain fallacies and be weak. Logical fallacies are flaws that diminish the validity and relevance of
an argument. They constitute weak reasoning . Some of the most common forms of logical fallacies
are: making unfounded generalizations or basing an argument on stereotypes, assuming that
correlation is the same thing as causation, presenting a premise in an argument

Mountain Climbing Suicide
Approximately 200 frozen corpses litter the face of Mount Everest, the tallest mountain in the world
and one of the most frequently climbed. If anything, the gruesome sights are a testament to the fact
that despite the experience and knowledge of Sherpa guides and modern technology, mountain
climbing is at its heart still a dangerous and risky sport. Still more people are not killed but become
entangled in horrific situations, and rescuers must attempt to save them with high risk maneuvers.
But mountain climbingis a conscious decision on the part of the climber, and rescuers should not be
held accountable for the decisions of the climbers. Furthermore, rescuers frequently die in rescue
missions. Thus, climbers should not demand rescue... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
What right do these climbers have to threatening the lives of rescuers such as Nick Hall and the
pilots who died in the Ama Dablam crash? It is not the duty of the pilots, the rangers, and other
rescuers to give their lives in attempts to save people who did not understand the fearful
circumstances which can arise in the pursual of a sport like mountain climbing. Mountain climbing
has changed, and in some ways it is certainly safer, but it is still at its heart an extreme sport which
can easily cause injury or even mortality. Rangers, pilots, and other rescuers should not be
expected to potentially sacrifice their own lives for the sakes of climbers. When climbers go
climbing, their lives should be the only ones they are risking. In conclusion, climbers and others
who partake in dangerous extreme sports should not demand rescue services when they are the ones
to have placed themselves in hazardous

Compare And Contrast Slaughter House Five And...
In the novels, Slaughterhouse Five written by Kurt Vonnegut and What is the What by Dave
Eggers, the authors use techniques to help contribute to the development of the readers curiosity
about how the story might end. As a result, it leaves them a feeling of wanting more of the storyline
until the very last page. The novel Slaughterhouse Five is written by author Kurt Vonnegut, who
experienced and survived the World War II. He expresses his personal feelings regarding the war
through the main character, Billy Pilgrimand simple language, allowing readers to easily
understand and experience moments of the past, present, and future with him. One the other hand,
the novel What is the What by Dave Eggers, the author narrates the challenging life story in first
person point of view of a Sudanese refugee, Valentino Achak Deng, Thereby, creating a bridge
between readers and author which similarly allows them to experience the refugee lifestyle and
connect on a personal level. The two novels share a similar technique of using first person narrative
with texts that offer a rich and thorough glimpse into the narrator s involvements through inner
dialogue and explanation. Additionally, the technique of involving authors produces an
individualized touch using texts with emotional experiences that would otherwise go unnoticed by
a third party, such as feelings, sounds, tastes and smell described by the author. Thus, depicting and
setting the scene for readers to get involved in the story from a personal point of view and grasping
their attention until the end. In Slaughterhouse Five, Kurt Vonnegut presents Billy Pilgrim himself,
as a character unstuck in time through simple language. This does not only pursue a page turner
for curious readers to easily experience the past, present, and future with him but also, alluding to
the reality of life during the World War II. Similarly, In What is the What, Dave Eggers narrates his
story through feelings of a real life character, Valentino Achak Deng, to express the story on the
reality of a living refugee. Kurt Vonnegut utilizes the advantage of a narrative story, using simple
language to easily connect through the readers thoughts. The use of language simple enough for

Rhetorical Devices In Julius Caesar s Speech
In Shakespeare s play of Julius Caesar, Rhetoric is the art of convincing and persuading people
by language through public speaking which is used in Julius Caesar s speeches. These devices
are used in Brutus and Antony statements throughout the play. Brutus is a conspirator who kills
Caesar since he fears that he will have too much power over Rome and its people. In
comparison, Marc Antony is the closest friend and most trusted to Caesar, who persuades the
people of Rome against Conspirators for killing Caesar. (Thesis statement) Brutus appeals to
logic when he explains his actions in Caesar funeral, where as Antony appeals to emotions,
playing with the audience feelings to seek justice upon the conspirators. Brutus gives a speech
to the people of Rome to explain his reasoning in killing Caesar by using logic. He claims that he
killed Caesar because he loves Rome and fears for well being of the people since Caesar was an
ambitious man. Brutus expresses feelings by saying Had you rather have Caesar were living,
and die all slaves/ than that Caesar were dead to live all free men? (III.I.175). Brutus uses
rhetorical questions to make a point to the audience of saying that Rome is better without Caesar
because Caesar if he was alive they would all be slaves since Caesar would have ultimate power
and control. Brutus showing facts to the people of Rome, Brutus s argument becomes influential to
win over the audience. Throughout his Aboelfoul|2 speech, he calls Caesar ambitious

Othello Prejudice And Prejudice
Discrimination At It s Finest
Racism and Sexism are two extremely prominent problems that have been occurring for many
years. Many people are prejudice towards others who are not the same as them. Today we have
come very far in order to limit discrimination, although there are still many places and people that
are sexist and racist. In the three texts I read this term Othello, Snow Falling on Cedars and
Goodnight Desdemona (Good Morning Juliet) there is a direct link to either racism, sexism or
even both. These texts were all set in past times except for Goodnight Desdemona (Good Morning
Juliet) which had components of the story that were set in today s time. We are going to explore the
similarities of discrimination between these three ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This playwright shows us how people today discriminate against women particularly seen in the
views on Desdemona s character. Academe believes that you re a doomed and helpless victim.
(2.2). Constance tells Desdemona this and instantly Desdemona is enraged by the fact people
think this of her. We are exposed to a side of Desdemona in this play that we may have not
picked up on entirely in Othello. Constance opens our eyes to the fact that Desdemona is a
strong and capable character and not the innocent and helpless character that she is made out to
seem. You are magnificent! Othello should make you his lieutenant. You re capable of greatness,
Desdemona. (2,2). Because Desdemona is never given a real voice in Othello her character is
watered down and her true colours are not shown. Readers are sexist against Desdemona because
she is a woman and in those times women were considered to be much less powerful and
important than men. Constance Ledbelly is also taken advantage of because she is a woman by her
superior, Professor

Essay about African American Male Feminist
The theory of an African American male feminist is a relatively new concept that is rapidly
growing. Alexander Crummell, who was an advocate of black feminism stated, For, humble and
benighted as she is, the black woman of the South is one of the queens of womanhood. If there is
any other woman on this earth who in native aboriginal qualities is her superior, I know not
where she is to be found. Before I discuss the importance, relevance and substance of what it is to
be not only a successful male feminist but a universally accepted male feminist, I will first lay the
foundation of what a feminist is from the ground up. In this paper I will construct an analysis of
African Americanmale feminist thought using pieces of literature such... Show more content on

But women had not gained freedom even though they d taken equally tremendous risk through
those dangerous years. Although they were not the first group of women to have those
thoughts, they were the first however to plan and carry out a plan on a large scale program.
These women gathered within two days of their conversation and placed an announcement at the
Seneca County Courier to call a convention to discuss the social, civil, and religious condition
and rights of woman. These women were looking to change the world (Legacy 98) In 1861 a
man named John Stuart Mill wrote The Subjection of Women which was said to have fueled the
ideology of the Women s Rights Movement. Mill discussed the role of women in society during
that time, pointing out how the patriarchy placed such an intense limit on what women could do.
Patriarchy is a system in which the male race governs societal views or social organization
marked by the supremacy of the father in the clan or family, the legal dependence of wives and
children, and the reckoning of descent and inheritance in the male line; broadly: control by men of
a disproportionately large share of power (Merriam Webster). His work raised the consciousness of
many women.
With the Caucasian women leading the way into the Women s Rights Movement, African American
women were not far behind them. On March 13, 1913 the women of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority
Inc. participated in the Women s Suffrage

The Struggle Against Oppression
In the last blog I spoke of the contradictions that America was built on; built upon the exploitation of
the marginalized and the expropriated. These ongoing social movements of these people who speak
out against their oppressor. Yet, somehow these groups still find themselves silenced by those in
power. It is the successful suppression, and ultimately their silence, that allows them to
continuously be taken advantage of. And while the marginalized civilians of this country partake in
their civil disobediencethroughout our history to gain advancements, it is important that they never
truly remain silent. For, the ramifications of absolute silence, are not only something that has failed
in this country, it is something that the marginalized... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The social movements that we have seen throughout history, not just in America, but globally all
begin with the marginalized speaking out. America s history is riddled with stories of those who
have spoken out to enact change in this country. Ultimately, it is the history of one vast ongoing
social movement. A social movement of the expropriated and marginalized against the same enemy
throughout time. An enemy that has been met with constant forthright and tactful words by the
marginalized. An enemy, that even when the marginalized seem to achieve their goal, still finds a
way to put them two steps back for every one of their steps forward. The enemy of the marginalized

It s cold, lifeless body lay in front of me in a metal tray as my body hovered over it. The body was
stiff; unmoving, as it reeked of formaldehyde.
But let s not start there, lets go back a little. It was my fourth year at Michigan Tech s Summer
Youth Programs. This year I chose to take Medical Physiology. I wonder when I m getting my
degree, I comically thought to myself with a snicker. Medical Physiology was delightfully fun
actually, learning about the different bones in our body and different systems. Although it was

As the dissection headed toward its end, we inspected and identified his organs. We took out his
heart, liver, and intestines. Laying them out on the tray and taking out some more. Wow, I could go

High School Students
Young adults, or adolescents, begin their last four grades of statutory education in a place called
high school. The purpose of this arduous journey is to teach a large range of prosperous skills,
information, and knowledge that will aid students throughout college and ultimately the real world.
In the society we live in today, however, people never question the pressure this quantitative form of
education imposes upon students. This crushing, mortifying stress plummets the mental and
physical health of pupils sometimes to the point of no return. Colleges contribute greatly to this
injustice as well: tuition fees and acceptance rates result being the primary concerns of families
across the nation. Today s society should not endorse the over pressurization of college, as that in
return results in the declination of health of high schoolstudents.
В¬Stress plagues almost every high school student, and while miniscule amounts may not result in
negative consequences, excessive amounts will (Palmer). Pressure by parents and schools to
achieve top scores has created stress levels among students beginning as early as elementary
school that are so high that some educators regard it as a health epidemic, stated Denise Clark
Pope, a lecturer in the School of Education and author of Doing School: How We Are Creating a
Generation of Stressed Out, Materialistic and Miseducated Students. Societal pressure about
achieving high quality grades originates as far back as elementary school,

our own produce will give us access to fresh, nutritious, and seasonal produce, as well as plants
and flowers during the cold winter months. A study from a top market research company called
Heartman Group shows that over Two thirds of all consumers favor locally grown foods and
almost 75 percent expressed the desire for wider selection of these products to be more readily

reduce the distance our food travels to get to our plate. Rich Pirog of the Leopold Center for

How Is Curley Presented In Of Mice And Men
How far can pettiness push a person? In Of Mice and Men, Curley is early on discovered to be
one of the main antagonist of the story because of his hostile attitude. Curley is simply a bad
egg who forever changes the other characters lives, maybe even for the worst. John Steinbeck
includes the antagonistic character of Curley to serve as a classic bully who shows the petty side
of society. Steinbeck uses both direct and indirect characterization to show that Curley is a
combative type of person. Curley parades his combative nature when he readily pulverizes sweet
Lenny. Curley slashed at Lenny with his left, and then same down on his nose with a right. Lenny
gave a cry of terror. (Steinbeck 63). This establishes that Curley loves to... Show more content on

Being petty means to take something small and letting it blow out of proportion. This is best
displayed when Crooks mentions Curley s bias hatred for big guys. The swamper considered....
Well...tell you what. Curley is like a lot of little guys. He hates big guys. He s alla time picking
scraps with big guys. Kind of like he s mad at them because he ain t a big guy. You seen little
guys like that, ain t you? Always scrappy? (Steinbeck 26). Curley is taking something so trivial
as height, and letting it control his feelings. Another example of Curley s pettiness is his
reaction to when his wife died. Slim nodded. We might, he said. If we could keep Curley in, we
might. But Curley s gonna want to shoot him. Curley is still mad about his hand. An s pose they
lock him up an strap him down and put him in a cage. That ain t no good, George. (Steinbeck
97). Slim clearly says that Curley wants to kill Lenny for revenge about his hand. You would
think that Curley would be motivated by the murder of his wife to kill Lenny, but to the contrary,
he is largely motivated by his bruised ego from the broken hand incident. Curley is so petty that he
is willing to take a man s life over an insignificant

  • 2. Compare and Contrast the Work of Harry Harlow and Mary... Compare and Contrast the work of Harry Harlow and Mary Ainsworth on understanding attachment Attachment is a lasting secure and positive feeling that bonds one person to another, one of the strongest forms of attachment is thought to develop between a mother and child. Many psychologist, sociologist, physicians and psychoanalysts have sought to explore the fundamental nature of attachment and how it had evolved. Within this essay I shall examine The origins of attachment Psychologist who seek to measure it The methodology used how it has consequently helped us understand attachment So how does attachment develop between a mother and child? Psychoanalytical theorists such as Sigmund Freud J.B Watson stated that attachment was... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These finding were revolutionary at the time and went against most child rearing attitudes and practices. Nevertheless, Ainsworth initially was far from convinced about the validity of firstly Bowlby s ethological account of attachment, secondly how Harlow s findings can be related to humans. However after conducting her own observational study of mother infant attachment on Ugandan families (1953) the relevance of Bowlby s work became apparent. Just like in one of Harlow s variations experiment Ainsworth found that the Ugandan mothers acted like a safe base to their babies, as did the terry cloth mothers (Custance 2010), consequently the more maternal sensitive the mothers were to their babies signals the more confidant and explorative the children became. Somewhat of a paradox to the then common pedagogic advice of limiting or avoiding bodily contact in attempt to avoid spooling children, as advocated by Freud and J. B.Watson and the insistence of the then dominant behaviourist school of psychology that emotions were negligible. Ainsworth concluded from her observations that qualitatively distinct patterns of attachment evolve between infants and their mothers in the opening years of life. Although a majority of these patterns are marked by comfort and security, some are tense or conflicted, and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Allegory Of The Cave In the allegory of the cave Plato tries to show us two scenarios where the prisoners experience emotional and intellectual revelations throughout their lives. Plato s theory was that the ones who truly understand knowledge should guide the ignorant people out of their unenlightened states of being and into true knowledge. The cave symbolizes the people who think that knowledge come from what they see and hear in the world. It also indicates people that make assumptions about life based on the substantial things they experience through hearing and seeing. Plato s main focus was to convey a story to the world about the difference between beliefs and truth. Anyone can believe in something they see, but that belief is really just a shadow of the truth. Already from Plato s illustration of the prisoners, one can tell that they have very little knowledge of their surroundings. Their lack of knowledge restricts them from knowing what s going on in the real world. The prisoner s assumption of reality is all the shadows that appear on the wall. As far as life goes, they believe the shadows are all there is and they don t question it. Plato referred to it as eikasia signifying the lowest level of knowledge. The prisoners don t know any better so they don t strive to observe anything else other than the shadows and the noises. In today s society the eikasia states of mind can be illustrated by narrow minded people, who are set in their own views in life and do not wish to expand ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Slaughter s Essay Why Women Still Can T Have It All In her article Why Women Still Can t Have It All, Anne Marie Slaughter comes to the conclusion that women can have it all, but the present structure of today s society has made it unfeasible. Slaughter, a high profile government employee, was appalled when she received supercilious and demeaning remarks regarding her stepping down; ultimately choosing her family over her career (Slaughter). Choosing family may be an easy choice for some, but when today s society has placed an exceeding amount of value in ones career, some are faced with an unimaginable decision. For women to finally have it all, a family and a career, Slaughter argues that we must rediscover the pursuit of happiness, redefine what it means to be successful, and reacquire family values. Slaughter claims that society has redefined the value of childcare, and is irritated that employers make conjectures, of equally qualified employees, based upon whether or not they are a parent. For instance, she compares a marathon runner to a parent, who are both equally qualified employees. She continues to emphasize that to be both a parent and a marathon runner takes the same amount of dedication and determination. Slaughter insists, The discipline, organization, and sheer endurance it takes to succeed... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The American definition of a successful professional is someone who can climb the ladder the furthest in the shortest time, generally peaking between ages 45 and 55 (Slaughter). Because life expectancy has increased, couples marry and have kids later, people retire earlier, and have multiple jobs and careers, climbing the ladder furthest in the shortest amount of time is not the best way to achieve success. In Slaughters eyes the path to success is not a straight upward slope, it is a combination of irregular stair steps with periodic ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Compare And Contrast The Minority Report The text The Minority Report by Philip K. Dick is a commentary on the concept of innocence and one s freedom of choice. It is often said that stories change significantly when becoming movies. The movie by the same name Minority Report directed by Steven Spielberg is based off the same ideas and concept the unpredictability of life and choices. It is a prime example of how the short storyand movie differ even if the basic concepts remain unchanged. The movie and short story share many similarities. Some of the similarities include the themes of morality with their legal system precrime, security and access to information, crime and punishment, and fate verse free will. • 6. Essay on Benito Cereno by Herman Melville Benito Cereno by Herman Melville In many stories, the main characters carry the plot of a story throughout the book. The author often expresses the message that he desires the reader to receive through their thoughts and actions. Yet, the minor characters often have a large affect on the outcome of the book, although it is not quite as obvious to the reader. By altering the thoughts or actions of the main characters, a seemingly minor player in a novel may actually, at closer examination, be an important player in the plot. In the short story Benito Cereno, by Herman Melville, the minor character, Atufal, largely influenced Captain Delano, who is a main character. Delano s assessments and opinions aboard the Spanish ship were ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... . . remit him of his penalty (163). Delano felt sympathy towards the Negro, and questioned Don Cereno as to why he was treating the slave with such cruelty. Atufal s performance caused Delano to believe that Cereno was in control of the happenings on the boat, and that his prior concerns about the role of the Negroes on the San Dominick should be put to rest. Delano did not do much more than shortly entertain the idea that the blacks were, in fact, in control of the Spanish vessel because of what he witnessed in the situation of Atufal. Atufal affected the plot because he caused Delano to doubt his suspicions, which therefore played a major role in the actions of this main character. The observations of Atufal by Delano greatly helped to form his attitude towards the Negroes upon the ship. The supposed cruelty of Don Cereno towards the slave Atufal created an image of obedience by the blacks in Delano s mind. Delano thought, But [the Negroes] were too stupid (177). Perhaps if Atufal had not implanted images of white supremacy aboard the ship, Captain Delano might have acted sooner in helping to return the ship to Benito Cereno. In the classic story Benito Cereno, by Herman Melville, the minor character Atufal greatly affected the opinions of the main character, Captain Delano, which therefore plays a major part in the plot. • 7. Francis Bacon as Shakespeare Francis Bacon as Shakespeare For almost four hundred years the question of who truly wrote the works attributed to William Shakespeare has been studied meticulously by many scholars and historians. There have been many well qualified contenders, including Sir Francis Bacon. Because of the incredible number of coincidences between Shakespeare and Bacon, it is obvious that Bacon wrote Shakespeare. Firstly, the actor William Shakespeare, who is the supposed author of Shakespeare s works, could not have written them. He had no formal education after thirteen, was from a small provincial town, was a professional actor, had two daughters who were illiterate, didn t mention any of his works in his will, and whose only surviving handwriting is six signatures on legal documents (Rubenstein 69). Shakespeare is considered one of the greatest authors in history, and without a formal education the intricacy of his work would be impossible. It should also be put in consideration that many of Shakespeare s works were not only published but edited after his death. From the publication of The Taming of the Shrew in 1594 to the publication of the First Folio in 1623, 4,936 new lines were added to the plays, a majority of which were added posthumously (sirbacon). This in itself is evidence enough to disprove Shakespeare entirely. Unlike William Shakespeare, Sir Francis Bacon was very well qualified to have written Shakespeare s works. Bacon was a highly educated Member of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Short Essay About The Aztecs The Aztecs were a complex civilization, I don t know much about the Aztec Civilization, I only know the outline. The reason why I chose the Aztecs is because I played a few video games growing up playing as that civilization, and they have always made me more interested in them. What I know, is eventually they came upon a spot with an eagle sitting on a cactus with a serpent wrapped in it s legs, that s where Tenochtitlan would be built. Montezuma was their leader, he was fierce and strict, but at the same time kind hearted and understanding, but nobody mistook his kindness for weakness, except for the Spanish. The Aztecs would fight enemies and enslave the rebellions and sacrifice them. The ones that cooperated, would have to pay tributes every few weeks though. Those people could live a normal life, just under Azteccontrol. They built things called skyfarms. Those farms were very well designed and worked in the desert setting they lived in. The Aztecs... Did they ever skip a day and know the sun rises the next day? Or did they never find out? What I want to know the most though, is how their leader Montezuma allowed the Spanish in with open arms, and let them harass him and his economy, and he let it happen, was he brainwashed into thinking the Spanish were the new leaders? The last thing I would like to know about is the rise and fall of the empire, where did they get all of their resources to build those spectacular buildings? The Effect of Different Substrate Concentrations on the Rate of Reaction My aim is to investigate what happens when concentration of Hydrogen Peroxide is changed and how it affects the rate of reaction when it is broken down by the enzyme catalase (H2O2 Г 2H2O + O2) Scientific knowledge. Enzymes are biological catalysts, regulating the rate at which chemical reactions take place without the enzyme being altered in the process. Enzymes bind temporarily to one or more of the substrate molecules of the reaction they catalyse. Enzymes work by lowering the activation energy required for a reaction to proceed. In order to do so, and enzyme molecule must unite even ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Each catalase molecule works best at a certain pH and temperature. The values for pH, and temperature, which give an enzymes greatest rate of reaction, are known as the optimum values. The activity of enzymes decreases away from these values. This is due to the importance of the tertiary structure in its function. As the temperature of the solution containing the hydrogen peroxide and catalase molecules increases so does the rate of reaction. This occurs because as the temperature increases the kinetic energy of the molecules also increases. As the molecules are moving around faster there are more collisions which lead to reactions between catalase molecules, and hydrogen peroxide molecules. This effect continues up to the optimum temperature. Above the optimum temperature, the rate of reaction decreases, as the increasing kinetic energy causes the hydrogen bonds, holding the structure of the enzyme together, to break. This causes the active site to change shape. This is known as denaturation. The hydrogen peroxide substrate molecule can therefore no longer fit the active site, and the rate of reaction decreases until all the catalase molecules are denatured, and the rate of reaction is zero. The pH affects the ionic charges, on some of the R groups present in the amino acids, making up the catalase molecule. Therefore as a result of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Racial Profiling Essay How Would You Feel If You Were a Victim Of Racial Profiling? Racial profiling is a serious issue of social importance in the United States. This topic has become a significant issue due to the fact that it discriminates against one of the most basic human rights the freedom to be whoever they want and believe in whatever they want. It also makes many people feel uncomfortable when being searched, pulled over, and looked at as if they were criminals when all they are guilty of is having a different skin color or a different religion. Even if in some cases racial profiling assists police to arrest people for committing real crimes, it makes a larger amount of innocent individuals feel as if they were criminals; therefore, I am against it. Racial profiling is any police action taken based on racerather than on behavior, evidence, or information provided about an individual and law enforcement should start taking action against it because it is not humane in any shape or form. Some level of racial profiling has probably always existed in the United States. The article What is Racial Profiling? found on the wiseGeek.com website, speaks to the general public by providing information about racial profiling. They say that many people get pulled over or suspected of criminal acts based on their ethnicity, religion, or skin color. In addition, during an investigation of a crime, police tend to use race as a principal if not the only factor in determining who is suspicious of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Compare And Contrast Nothing Gold Can Stay And The Outsiders Imagine being separated into two different groups based on what side of town one lives on and what one wears, then imagine having to act a certain way when one feels a whole different way. In the book The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton, there are two groups, Socs and the Greasers, they have a rivalry with each other; the Greasers are known for having bad reputations that will never go anywhere in life and are poor, while the Socs can be disrespectful to the community, but an asset to the community the next day, and with a lot of money. In the novel, S.E. Hinton includes Robert Frost s poem Nothing Gold Can Stay to focus on the poem s deeper meaning. When examining Robert Frost s Nothing Gold Can Stay and S.E. Hinton s The Outsiders, one can analyze the usage of color, lost of innocence, and identity change. To begin with, the use of color in both the poem and the novel has a deeper meaning than just what colors turn into other colors. In the poem, the colors are more than just the different color cycle plants go through. The changing of colors during season changing also means the passing of life and how everyone s growing up through the different stages of winter, spring, summer, and autumn. In autumn one is a baby, in the winter one is six or seven in the spring one is twelve or thirteen, in the summer one is seventeen or eighteen, and by the fall comes around one is now an adult ready to live on their own. Life of Workers in Staithes Essay Close by the giant textile mill row on row on row of drab terrace houses huddle together as if to fend off the bitter cold of a winter night in December of 1811. Night obscures the narrow streets of the industrial village of Holmeside as morning s hesitant light pokes through the canopy of dismal clouds. Inside the mill, workers have been toiling for hours. They rose from their beds early and put on their work clothing. The lucky ones ate a crust of bread and drank the remains of yesterday s milk before stepping out into the chilly darkness to make their way to the mill. They carried the smallest children. All that is human is troubled by their failure to benefit except by Death s summons. The portal of the grave is their only means of escape. Some said the disadvantages of the poor were their own making. Many believed that the working poor were not fully human, but a bestial and inferior species, unlike themselves, specifically supplied by Providence as servants through whose labour they ran profitable enterprises. The poor were seen as a raw material in the same class as wool and cotton. They were cheap to employ and easy to replace. Those that looked down on workers failed to see that working conditions in textile mills were why workers were afflicted with conditions for which no treatment existed. These early morning people move in procession through the streets, uniting with others at street junctions to form broader streams, merging with other streams as they neared the mill to form a grand current of humanity closing on the massive iron gates of the mill that were symbols of imprisonment. Once inside the gates, workers fanned out to go to various work stations to work as machine minders in the manufactory. This was the common condition of men, women, and children in the hard textile country of Yorkshire s West Riding. The characters of Yorkshire folk were forged in the crucibles of harsh terrain and exacting industrial environments. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Plato in the Apology, Crito, and the Phaedo describes the trial and execution of Socrates. Athens after the second Peloponnesian War is cling to an unstable democracy, and extremely fearful of anything that threatens their way of life. Pericleswould view this Athens as a shell of its former self. This can be best seen through the trial and execution of Socrates. Socrates could be described as the ideal Athenian, he strove to make Athens and its people better, yet he was executed for having different ideas. Although we can not go back in time to look at the past, there are many logical theories which could determine what happened. Throughout the many possible scientific theories for the origin of the universe, the big bangtheory is the most logical about how the universe began due to how the universe is expanding, leftover energy, and the abundance of certain elements. The big bang theory is the leading explanation about how the universe began. This phenomenon shows that the universe started in a small singularity which grew to what we know today. Tudor society was the epicentre of Tudor politics. The power of your words within the political world depended on your rank in the society. For the majority of the Tudor population the portraits stamped on to their coins were the only visual image they had of the monarch. If the coins showed a powerful and wealthy portrait of the ruling monarch then this is what the laity would presume the monarch was, therefore this was an effective way of keeping political support of the common people. Even though coins gave the laity an idea of what the monarch looked like,it was still as equally important for the monarch to show himself in person to his subjects. During summer months it was not unusual for the whole court to regularly move from place to place on progress. In the novels, Slaughterhouse Five written by Kurt Vonnegut and What is the What by Dave Eggers, the authors use techniques to help contribute to the development of the readers curiosity about how the story might end. As a result, it leaves them a feeling of wanting more of the storyline until the very last page. The novel Slaughterhouse Five is written by author Kurt Vonnegut, who experienced and survived the World War II. He expresses his personal feelings regarding the war through the main character, Billy Pilgrimand simple language, allowing readers to easily understand and experience moments of the past, present, and future with him. One the other hand, the novel What is the What by Dave Eggers, the author narrates the challenging life story in first person point of view of a Sudanese refugee, Valentino Achak Deng, Thereby, creating a bridge between readers and author which similarly allows them to experience the refugee lifestyle and connect on a personal level. The two novels share a similar technique of using first person narrative with texts that offer a rich and thorough glimpse into the narrator s involvements through inner dialogue and explanation. Additionally, the technique of involving authors produces an individualized touch using texts with emotional experiences that would otherwise go unnoticed by a third party, such as feelings, sounds, tastes and smell described by the author. In comparison, Marc Antony is the closest friend and most trusted to Caesar, who persuades the people of Rome against Conspirators for killing Caesar. (Thesis statement) Brutus appeals to logic when he explains his actions in Caesar funeral, where as Antony appeals to emotions, playing with the audience feelings to seek justice upon the conspirators. Brutus gives a speech to the people of Rome to explain his reasoning in killing Caesar by using logic. He claims that he killed Caesar because he loves Rome and fears for well being of the people since Caesar was an ambitious man. Brutus expresses feelings by saying Had you rather have Caesar were living, and die all slaves/ than that Caesar were dead to live all free men? (III.I.175). Brutus uses rhetorical questions to make a point to the audience of saying that Rome is better without Caesar because Caesar if he was alive they would all be slaves since Caesar would have ultimate power and control.
