Being A Palliative Care Nurse
Palliative Care
Throughout this course, I have learned new information and refreshed myself on old information. I
was also able to connect old information with caring for individuals going through palliative or end of
life care. Being a palliative care nurse can be a busy and stressful job. The nurse needs to be fully
educated on many different areas to be able to provide the best possible care for the patients and their
families. A few of the topics that we discussed were the role of the palliative care nurse, cultural
competency, pain control of those in palliative care, communication strategies, and legal and ethical
issues that may occur during the end of one s life.
Role of Professional Nurse in Palliative Care
Nurses of all areas have many different roles and responsibilities. As a palliative care nurse, their roles
can include being a consultant, educator, role model, and mentor (Matzo Sherman, 2015, p. 13). In the
video Lessons On Living From The Dying An Interview With A Palliative Care Nurse On Kirsty TV
(2013), the nurse showed that it is important to educate the patient and their family, be available for
the patient in many forms such as an active listener, a shoulder to cry on, etc, involve the family in the
healthcare and the decisions that are being made, provide a calm environment and a positive
atmosphere (kick the negativity out the door immediately), and most importantly be there with the
patient during this time. Caring for these patients and

Corrections Program Research Paper
Having an interest in the legal system will bring certain things to light to a person. Some of these
things make perfect sense, some may not. One thing that is fascinating to me is how the corrections
program works in the United States. Not only are the inmates provided with some luxuries that may
not be available to them in the free world, there is a select group who get special treatment. Private
Cells, armed guard escorts, there are many luxuries offered to the inmates who are in protective
custody. Some of these inmates might be celebrities, some may convicted law enforcement officers,
but the one that offends a large portion of the population is the protection of Pedophiles and other sex
crime offenders. The majority of Americans are

Crime And Deviance In The Dark Knight By Christopher Nolan
Throughout The Dark Knight by Christopher Nolan crime and deviance is seen throughout the film.
Crime and deviance in The Dark Knight has two faces as society accepts crime for those whose are
helping them and at the same time punishes those who are punished. Society in Gotham accepts crime
when the Batman commits it to help for the betterment of society; however, crime is not accepted
when it is committed by mob bosses, gangs, criminal cops, and most importantly through the joker.
The forms of deviancy/crime which are seen throughout the film is the Labeling Approach, Human
Rights Approach, and Human Diversity Approach. The Labelling Approach is a theory in which an
individual s identity is determined or influenced by the terms that is used to describe or classify them,
through the use of serotyping someone. This is seen within The Dark Knight when the Joker recruits
those who have been labelled as mentally insane, or have been outcast by society. This makes them
believe that have a sense of being within society as they start to create their own society, and those
who do not follow the norms that the Joker puts into place. Through allowing the joker to recruit those
who have a negative label, do to the Joker having a label himself of being a villain by both sides of
society. Not being accepted by anyone, even his own, which forces him to act on such a label through
committing crimes that are not even the norms of the criminal society. This behavior is being seen as a
rationale by both sides of society the general public, and criminals by not allowing the Joker and his
associates fit within the norms that are being set for them. This also helps society within Gotham to
make sure that those with a label are not socially accepted such as those that have a mental illness, and
who perform criminal acts. However, at the same time it gives the people of Gotham as a sense of
power over those that have a label, and the sense that they have a position over society. Furthermore,
the Human Rights Approach argues that crime occurs whenever a human right is violated, no matter of
what context the crime is being committed, regardless of whether the crime was legal or not. This is
seen within The Dark Knight when

An Example Of Foreshadowing In The Leap
1. An example of foreshadowing in The Leap occurs when the narrator recalls her mother telling her
that she would be amazed at how many things a person can do within the act of falling . This
foreshadows their leap from the fire. Erdrich builds suspense throughout the story through multiple
references to falling and being saved leading to the expectation that something bad will happen to the
narrator. Erdrich also creates suspense through her use of words, such as describing the storm which
caused the death of Anna s husband as a deadly gale . 2. An example of contrast in the story is that
between the first time Anna makes a leap in order to protect the life of her unborn child, and the final
leap in which Anna saves the narrator from the fire. During the first leap, Anna makes a decision in the
attempt to allow her baby a full life; however, the child ends up dying only a few months later. In the
final leap, Anna once again must rescue her child, and this time succeeds in allowing her child a long
life. Erdrich is using contrast here to illustrate the importance in not letting past failures prevent her
from taking a risk. If she had let fear of failure prevent her from taking that chance again, her child
would have died. If she had let fear of failure ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Dojo Observation
The dojo I visited is the dojo Buena Park known as Chushinkan Dojo which is taught by Nakayama
Sensei. I visited the dojo on Thursday, November 12, 2015. I did have general observations of the
dojo, the class, the instructor, and the training. There were techniques I recognized and a new Aikido
concept I have not experienced before. There was a technique I found interesting. There was not much
a difference in learning from CSUF and the dojo. The most interesting part of my visit was watching
students test.
I had general observations about the dojo, the class, the instructor, and the training. The dojo did not
have its own property and was inside a community center, this was something I did not expect. In this
Aikido course in CSUF, I remember ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Some students did better than others which is usual for testings. In the Aikido course I remember
when Sensei would speak about how an actual dojo has people who are determined with Aikido and
are more serious with Aikido than the regular student in the Aikido course. I could understand what
Sensei meant because I could see the determination and hard work these students have when they do
testing. They put the most effort they can when testing compared to the students in the Aikido course.
The most significant part was that after students finished their test there was encouragement to
applause, and this shows that the students admired each other in their hard work and dedication. This
applause and admiration is not that common in our Aikido course sessions because it is apparent that
people who have determination with Aikido have more enthusiasm and love for it.
I visited the Chushinkan Dojo in Buena Park and learned a little more about Aikido not mainly in
techniques, but how Aikido is viewed in a different setting such as an actual dojo where individuals
are serious with Aikido. There were techniques I recognized and a new Aikido concept I have not
experienced before. I admire how Aikido is usually done not for profit but for sharing Aikido with
others, which is seen when the dojo is in a community center. The dojo visit was actually an
interesting experience

White Matter
Brain consists of white matter and gray matter. While gray matter of brain contains nerve cells, white
matter of brain contains nerve fibers and myelin. Nerve fibers connect the nerve cells and myelin
covers the nerve fibers. Myelin is responsible for conduction of impulses. It also helps in insulation
which prevents short circuits.
Damage of myelin can cause loss of brain functions. Behavioral neurology of white matter ... Show

After detection of the mental illness, further tests are performed to determine the cause. White matter
disease may be caused due to autoimmune disease. White matter disorder varies depending on
location of damage or severity of the disease. Patients can consult neurologist for diagnosing the white
matter disorder.
White matter disease may be the result of genetic variation. Infection, stroke and head injury may also
cause white matter disease. Research studies suggest that white matter of brain may be related to
mental illness like bipolar disorder. Various tools and advanced techniques are available to detect the
mental illness and the location of white matter disease in brain.
White matter disorder
White matter disorder is a disease which occurs due to lack of white matter surrounding the nerve
fibers in the brain. It is a mental illness that occurs in childhood. White matter disorder can be
diagnosed with the help of MRI. Disease involving white matter is called as white matter disorder.
Medications and physical therapy are used to treat the mental illness. To prevent progressive mental
illness from damaging the brain functioning, prevention plan to deal with the mental illness should be
prepared beforehand.

Modern Dance, By Miriam Giguere
Contemporary dance was developed in the early 20th century as a movement against the rigid
technique of ballet (Blackfish Arts Acadamy, 2006). Using the natural lines of the body to create new
movements, the contemporary dance style usually has more fluidity than that of conventional dance
styles (Freeman, 2013). In the book Beginning Modern Dance , Miriam Giguere says The function of
dance is communication. . . . By communication is not meant to tell a story or to project an idea, but to
communicate experience by means of action . . . out of this came a different use of the body as an
instrument, as the violin is an instrument. Body is the basic instrument, intuitive, instinctive. As a
result an entirely contemporary set of technics was evolved. (Giguere, 2014).
A forerunner in the changing face of modern dance was choreographer and performer Martha Graham.
Graham took up dance at the age of 22, during the time when women were fighting for the right to
vote (Mapes, 2013). Being both shorter and older than most dancers, Graham had to use her body in a
different way to the others at the Denishawn School of dance. This went against all of the principles
that female dancers had originally been taught (Mapes, 2013). Over the duration of her career, Graham
created one of the only sets of technique that is still practiced in today s contemporary style (Mapes,
2013). Focusing on two main principles, contraction and release, Graham s technique was strikingly
different to that of

John Peter Brief Biography
John Peter (1900 1950) began his career in the early 1920 s, after a musical childhood and several
years of study in US. By the time his first opera, The Protagonist (Peter Georg), was performed in
April 1926, he was an established young German composer. But he had already decided to devote
himself to the musical theater, and his works with Bertolt Brecht soon made him famous all over
Europe. He fled the new Nazi leadership in March 1933 and continued his indefatigable efforts, first in
Paris (1933 35), then in the U.S. until his death. Certain common threads tie together his career: a
concern for social justice, an aggressive pursuit of highly regarded playwrights and lyricists as
collaborators, and the ability to adapt to audience tastes no matter where he found himself. His most
important works: the Violin Concerto (1925), The Threepenny Opera (Bertolt Brecht, 1928), Rise and
Fall of the City of Mahagonny (Brecht, 1930), The Pledge (Caspar Neher, 1932), The Seven Deadly
Sins (Brecht, 1933), Lady in the Dark (Moss Hart and Ira Gershwin, 1941), Street Scene (Elmer Rice
and Langston Hughes, 1947), Lost in the Stars (Maxwell Anderson, 1949). He died of heart failure in
1950, shortly after he and Anderson began work on a musical adaptation of Huckleberry Finn, leaving
behind a large catalogue of works and a reputation that continues to grow as more of his music is
performed. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

two key channels what LM uses to deliver value for its customers: the community and the regional
microfactories. The community is a core element of LM s business model and consists of a group of
car enthusiasts and designers who communicate mainly on an online platform, but they also meet in

together with customers whilst assembling. Both key channels are important parts of LM s marketing

channels to reach its customers. It raises awareness about its cars using mostly its website. This
platform also helps potential customers in evaluating the offerings of LM as community members

The Uncertain Future Of Quebec Culture
The Uncertain Future of Quebec Culture
Gaetan Tremblay, a professor of communications at the University of Quebec at Montreal and deputy
manager of the Group of research on cultural industries and social computerization (GRICIS), is a
leading researcher for public policies in the field of communications. Tremblay is an advocate of
public policy that defends against cultural imperialism by countries such as the United States . In
particular, Tremblay studies the effects of the media on culture in Canada especially in a province like
Quebec which is distinct from the rest of English Canada.

The Constitution Act, 1867 contained specific provisions designed to protect Quebec s distinct culture
and language (Nicholson, 2003) Canada has always given guarantees to protect the Quebec culture, a
policy would be nice but it is not an absolute must have as he portrays. Tremblay then moves on to
say, that U.S Department of Commerce would like to deregulate the communications industry and
how horrible this would be for Canada . He points out that once this happens the U.S will pressure
Canada to do the same. Yet, he seems to forget that Canada is a sovereign nation that does not have to
give in to U.S pressure. Canada sets its own policies without being influenced by others. It has and
will always be this way. Quebec is already officially recognized as distinct, it is entrenched in the
constitution. Simply put, it does not get any better than that.
In the next part of the article, Tremblay addresses the amount of American programs on Quebec
television. Tremblay believes that the policies that are currently in place were only put in because of a
belief that the identity of Quebec is in danger. What is there really to be afraid of? From Tremblay s
own data the perceived danger is more of a myth. Nearly two thirds of all production in Quebec is
Canadian in origin, it actually increased by 4% in the late eighties. (Tremblay, 1992) Upon further
analysis, Tremblay points

The Role of Alfieri and His Dramatic Significance in the Play
Explore The Role Of Alfieri And Discuss His Dramatic Significance In The Play The play is set in
Red Hook, in Brooklyn, in New York. It is set in the 1940 s. Red Hook is a poor local community with
many immigrants. Immigrants went to America because of the depression in Europe so people wanted
work, and America was seen as a place of freedom and opportunity, otherwise known as The
American Dream . The play is mainly based on the difference between old and new, between America
and Italy. This basis is relied on and is brought up, at many points in the play. Alfieri s role in the play
is neutral. He is a narrator, and occasionally an actor in the play. When he plays a narrator, he gives

Which is exactly the point Eddie is trying to make during the play, in Sicily, from where their fathers
came, the law has not been a friendly idea since the Greeks were beaten Towards the end of the
soliloquy, Alfieri uses juxtaposition. By talking about Eddie and fate at the same time, he is joining to
ideas, and making one single idea in subtext. He is suggesting that Eddie will face fate later in the
play, and watched it run its blood course This is letting the audience know that someone in the play
will die, and by using juxtaposition, Alfieri is hinting that the person who will die, will be Eddie. By
doing this, Alfieri gives evidence that he does give the audience clues about what will happen later in
the play. When Eddie first goes to see Alfieri to ask him for advice, this is the first time the audience
actually sees Alfieri as a lawyer. However, Alfieri says, and I was acquainted with the family in a
casual way, I represented his father in an accident case some years before With Alfieri saying this, it
shows that he has a history with Eddie, letting the audience know that when Eddie asks him for
advice, Alfieri will answer as a friend, not just as a lawyer. As soon as Alferi sees Eddie properly, he
says, His eyes were like tunnels; my first thought was that he committed a crime The

Contemporary Art And Art Theory Of Africa And Asia At Soas...
Frantz Fanon discusses collective catharsis, In every society, in every community, there exists, must
exist, a channel, an outlet whereby the energy accumulated in the form of aggressiveness can be
released. This is the inspiration for my curatorial practice. As a curator, community organizer, first
generation Caribbean American and New York City native, my curatorial work seeks to foster
resistance and empowerment with oppressed communities. I seek to do this by cultivating spaces for
collective catharsis and critical discourse, becoming the catalyst for radical action. A passion for
Justice by every means necessary is at the root of my desire to study Contemporary Art and Art
Theory of Africa and Asia at SOAS.
Art is one of global society s most fluid tools for justice and equity. Working as an Arts Administrator
for the Bronx Council on the Arts, I ve further realized the significance the arts have historically had
and continue to have as ancillary support for failing institutions. This is of utmost importance to me
because I am interested in the many ways art forms and art objects have been used historically in
African cultures to solve conflicts or answer questions. As well as how Contemporary African art (of
the diaspora and the continent) can be used to solve the conflicts of today, and lead to liberatory
futures for the Africans of all nations.

Industrial Farm Animal Welfare
Industrial farm animal welfare is horrendous, only two federal laws protect these animals which
proves this true. Firstly, the law regarding trucking animals states that every 28 hours they are
unloaded from the truck for rest, water and food. Trucks aren t required to be cleaned during this rest
period. Meaning the livestock has to stand in feces during travel. Secondly, livestock be quickly
rendered insensible to pain before being slaughtered. These laws aren t actively enforced leading to
increased animal cruelty. In addition to the surprising lack of empathy for these animals, poultry is

Bariatric Surgery
Indication:
No studies evaluate the commonly used indications for bariatric surgery. Consensus guidelines suggest
that the surgical treatment of obesity should be reserved for patients with a body mass index (BMI)

invasive methods of weight loss have failed and the patient is at high risk for obesity associated

It may continue for up to two years after the operation. Because of the rapid weight loss, health
conditions affected by obesity such as diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, arthritis, sleep
apnea, heartburn, and other conditions often improve quickly. You ll probably also feel a dramatic
improvement in your quality of life.
Gastric bypass also has good long term results; studies have found that many people keep most of the
weight off for 10 years or longer.
The Cons. By design, surgeries like this impair the body s ability to absorb food. While that can cause
rapid weight loss, it also puts you at risk of serious nutritional deficiencies. The loss of calcium and
iron could lead to osteoporosis and anemia. You ll have to be very careful with your diet and take
supplements for the rest of your life.
Another risk of gastric bypass is dumping syndrome, in which food is dumped from the stomach into
the intestines too quickly, before it s been properly digested. About 85% of people who get a gastric
bypass have some dumping. Symptoms include nausea, bloating, pain, sweating, weakness, and
diarrhea. Dumping is often triggered by sugary or high carbohydrate foods, and adjusting the diet
helps. However, some experts actually see dumping syndrome as beneficial, in that it encourages
people to avoid foods that could lead to weight gain.

Western Medicine focuses on dealing with the symptoms of the disease in many cases and treatment
suppresses these, rather than curing the problem. This can lead to a lifetime need for drug therapy.
A one size fits all approach if you are diagnosed with a particular condition you will be prescribed a
particular type of Drug e.g. if you have raised cholesterol you will probably be given a stronger.
Dosing and regimen is standardized this is ok for the majority of patients. But you may fall outside the
norm and therefore the treatment doesn t work as well for you or you have tolerability problems.
Treatment with conventional medicine in many countries is very expensive and without access to
health insurance can be out of the reach of many. Even in countries where there is free access to health
care, certain Drugs or treatments may not be available, due to the local health care services being
unable to pay for them.
The modern focus on disease and the time and other pressures many physicians are under means that
sometimes the patient can feel like they are on a treatment treadmill and not being listened to.
Alternative Medicine The Pros
Most alternative medicine practices work to restore balance to the body. This allows the body to heal
itself. This holistic approach can often impact positively on other aspects of the patient s life.

How Real Is the Terrorist Threat Essay

Juvenile Retrograde Law
The government, instead of ensuring proper implementation of the rehabilitation and correction of the
children in conflict with the law is shredding its responsibility through this retrograde law, holding the
children accountable for the failures of our juvenile correctional institutions. This would never

Ronald Reagan was a very popular person before, during, and after his time of presidency. He went
from a mere radio announcer, to the head of the United States of America. Ronald had defeated most
of the world s problems with Communism, improved the economy, and handled terrorist threats like a
pro. Ronald quickly took America s heart with his honorable deeds and doings. He was very famous
by the time he became deceased. (Ronald Reagan Facts.) Ronald Reagan was born on the 6th of

Representation Of Identity Formation
Through a qualitative comparative literature approach studies the representation of identity formation
on the work of transnational writers Reyna Grande and Sandra Cisneros. I introduce the framework of
liminality to understand identity formation of transnational individuals. Transnational and diasporic
identities have been understood as the incorporation of multiple geographical sources of identity,
inclusive of locations on both sides of the border and having multiple homes (Szeghi 2014:163).
While this is true, this definition does not address the disharmonies, sense of alienation and/or identity
conflicts that the incorporation of multiple geographic locations that transnationalism can provoke to

Over fished and Under protected: Ocean Life on the Brink of Catastrophic Collapse Tom Levitt, for
CNN
Updated: 11:07 AM, Wednesday March 27, 2013.
The downfall of fish in the Atlantic Ocean is a result of numerous factors such as certain fishing
techniques, climate change, and pollution. One type of fishing technique that is causing serious
damage to marine life is bottom trawling. Bottom trawling is a form of fishing that involves a large
net, about 60 meters wide, and dragging it along the bottom of the sea with heavy weights from a
trawler. Bottom trawling causes irreversible damage to coral life and slow growing fish species, for
example the Orange Roughy s (Slime Head) species has decreased more than 90%. Halibut
disappeared from the North Atlantic in the 19th century. In the North Ocean, Blue Fin Tuna
disappeared in the 1930 s 1940 s, and today have disappeared across the seas of Northern Europe.
This is a paragraph from an article, Over fished and Under protected: Oceans on the Brink of
Catastrophic Collapse by Tom Levitt, for CNN.
Marine conservationists compare it to a bulldozer, with the nets pulled for as far as 20km, picking up
turtles, coral and anything else in their path. The by catch, unwanted fish and other ocean life thrown
back into the sea, can amount to as much as 90% of a trawl s total catch.
Opinion 2: Deep sea fishing is oceanocide .

Book Report of Plunkitt of Tammany Hall Essay example
An Analysis of Plunkitt of Tammany Hall William Bryce History 1302 Austin Community College
November 30, 2011 The purpose of this book report is to analyze the themes in Plunkitt of Tammany
Hall by William L. Riordon. Riordon s purpose is to educate people about politics and to stimulate
reform in their corrupt political system. The first theme of this book is Plunkitt s use of patronage. He
openly discusses quid pro quo: he gives people jobs, opportunities, and welfare services in exchange
for their political allegiance. For example, he talks about giving young men opportunities to play in
the baseball club or sing in the glee club. In exchange, they vote the way he tells them to. Plunkitt also
supports his voters in other ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

of competing with them he offered to give them the granite they needed as long as they didn t bid

absurd price of $2.50.3 Although he was making a lot of money from his schemes he was careful to
not look rich. Above all things, he explains avoid a dress suit. You have no idea of the harm that dress
suits have done in politics. He goes on to say that he was once accused of buying a $10,000
automobile and a $125 dress suit right before an election and that he suffered badly at the polls for it.
The people wouldn t have minded much if I had been accused of robbin the city treasury... but the
automobile and the dress suit were too much for them. 3 Plunkitt also presents an anti elite education
worldview. In the book he explains how to become a politician and he says that going to college
detracts from your political ability, that scholars can t possibly become effective politicians. Plunkitt
maintains that a person who goes through college is handicapped and that the odds against him
succeeding are 100 to 1. He also claims that civil service reform is a curse, that giving people
qualification examinations is a travesty that will destroy patriotism and cultivate anarchy. He admits
that he only went to school for three winters and that some of the Tammany leaders

Congress Must Reform Current Legislation Restrict...
Affirmative Case Congress must reform current legislation to restrict bioprospecting on federal land,
and regulate the amount of monetary gain that landholders can receive from bioprospecting companies
that use their resources. The National Park Service is a smaller government agency within the
Department of Agriculture. This is the agency that is in dire need of legislation to restrict
bioprospecting, and manage the profit margin that national parks can receive from allowing
bioprospecting companies to use their resources.
Observation I Harms/Significance/Motive The Department of Agriculture manages land owned by the
federal government. As a result, the Department of Agriculture would enforce laws regarding how the
federal government might profit from prospecting natural biological resources within the United
States. However, if Congress does not pass legislation to dictate when, where and how bioprospecting
can be profited from then individual agencies may characterize bioprospecting as scientific research.
It is moral and legally ethical to use bioprospecting profits for maintaining national parks. The
Biodiversity Treaty sanctioned that countries whose biological resources are exploited by
bioprospecting companies have a right to share the financial benefits resulting from the sale of these
resources (Adair, 1997). National parklands are owned by the federal government. Therefore, our
national parks have the legal right to share in the financial benefits that

Klc Case Study
I
The clients visiting Kingsford Legal Centre (KLC) are often disadvantaged and experiencing
hardships in their life, their needs sometimes slip through the net and were not listened or catered by
the society, and this usually places them in a vulnerable situation. For instance, there are substantially
unequal bargaining powers when a client is facing employment issues, where the opposing party is the
client s employer or the organisation represented by a team of in house legal counsels. The opposing
party may, source any information that is relevant to the client, to leverage their own position. KLC
takes on a proactive approach by introducing confidentiality standards and procedures, aligning with
client legal privilege, thus facilitates a confidential and protected communication between the client
and the staffs of KLC.

2) Hero s wish is to be with Philia. Hysterium tells Hero that he should not know what happens in the

Domina is a demanding wife and Senex has to follow all of her orders. She is easily jealous and is
suspicious of her husband s actions, especially since Senex likes to stand near the house of shame,
which is the house that Marcus Lycus keeps his courtesans.

A Christmas Carol Analysis
Chains composed of links forged from sin, sorrow and seclusion are Ebenezer Scrooge s awaiting fate,
unless he can put his pride behind him to gain forgiveness from those he hurt...before it s too late.
Scrooge believes that man s business is to make money, which opposes Dickens teachings, in his book
A Christmas Carol. In A Christmas Carol, Charles Dickens shows that one s business in life is to
commit to charity and helping others, through what Scrooge learns from the Three Spirits lessons. In
stave I, Scrooge thinks man s business is making money, which caused him to be the way he is,
penurious and lonely. In the following piece of evidence, Scrooge gets into an argument with his
nephew. Clearly expressing the fact he very much dislikes Christmas, in this argument, and that it
makes no one any richer, so there should be no point to celebrate; especially for someone who is
apparently as poor as Fred, his nephew. But, Fred believes there is so much more to Christmas. On
page 5, in stave I, Scrooge says to Fred, Whats Christmastime to you but a time for paying bills
without money; a time for finding yourself a year older, and not an hour richer... This evidence is
relevant, because it shows how Scrooge believes that Christmas is unproductive and ineffective. While
Fred believes otherwise, he did not convince his Uncle Scrooge of the true meaning of Christmas, not
in this encounter anyway. Still carrying on the argument, Scrooge tells Fred his honest opinion about
Christmas. From Scrooge to Fred, ...If I could work my will... every idiot who goes about with Merry
Christmas on his lips should be boiled with his own pudding, and buried with a stake of holly through
his heart, stave I, page 6. This evidence is essential, because it unmistakably shows Scrooge s true
hatred for anyone who carries the Christmas spirit in his presence. After all the Spirit s lessons,
Scrooge now believes mankind s businesses is to give to and take care of others, and be happy with
what you ve been given. In the book, after Scrooge wakes up on Christmas morning in the best mood
ever, he runs into the charity workers that asked him to donate to the less fortunate, at the beginning of
the book. Upon seeing him, Scrooge feels guilty

Research Paper On State Lotteries
State Lotteries: Take a Second Look From the time the Europeans first landed on the Atlantic shore,
lotteries have been a part of the American society. According to Will Spink, most states are currently
operating a state lottery despite its bleak history in the U.S. (Spink 1). Since 1983, North Carolina has
introduced lottery bills in the legislature every year (NC Christian 15). North Carolina Governor, Mike
Easley, favors a lottery for increasing revenues for education (Analysis 2). However lucrative state
lotteries appear on the surface, they create even more moral and financial difficulties for citizens, and
this should encourage states to look at other means of resources instead of legalized gambling. In a

Governor Easley proposes that lottery taxes will supplement and not replace other taxes that support
education (Analysis 2). Other states have had the exact opposite to occur. In California, ninety percent
of school superintendents believe it had an adverse effect on their getting other funds for their schools.
In 1987, a study was conducted in Illinois that gave validity to what many lottery opponents claim
happens in many cases: While the lottery money to education increases, the total education funding in
the state budget increases at a lower rate than it has in previous years (Spink 3). Money magazine s
study proved that states with lotteries designate a lower percentage of their total budget to education
than do states without a lottery. However, proponents could point to the fact that lottery states on an
average spend more on education per student, than non lottery states (NC Insider 2). Research has
difficulty proving or disproving social consequences of lotteries. A survey by Gam Anon, the family
counterpart of Gamblers Anonymous, did reveal that ten percent of its members abused their children,
and fifty percent of the spouses reported physical and verbal abuse. Crimes like burglary, larceny, and
auto theft increase by an average of three percent in states that implement a state lottery. Sixty percent
of heavy gamblers admit to some sort of criminal activity within the past year . (Economic Facts 4).

For The Past Forty Years, Ohio Is Believed To Have Gone
For the past forty years, Ohio is believed to have gone through a process of deindustrialization. This
means that Ohio experienced a decline in manufacturing jobs. While this is a simple definition, the
origins of the term deindustrialization gives a deeper, more pejorative meaning to the term. This
darker meaning to the term is perhaps more effectively conveyed through the term rust belt. After
Ohio wen through the process of deindustrialization, the lack of industrial jobs in a once booming
industrial area left many factories empty and decommissioned. As these factories became older and
unused, their rusting facades became a symbol of the deindustrialization that Ohio experienced,
leading someone to coin the term rust belt for the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The term traces its roots back to World War II. The concept of deindustrialization began in Nazi
Germany. The Nazis described the areas that they had invaded in conquered in this way. This is
because they eliminated any industry from the areas that they took over, forcing these states to become
dependent upon Germany for economic and industrial development. This philosophy was also used as
a punishment for those countries, showing the power of Nazi Germany. After the end of the war, the
Allies began to use the term deindustrialization , as well. Essentially taking the definition from the
Nazis, they used this term in discussions of how to punish Nazi Germany in post war rebuilding plans.
Regardless of who was using the term in World War II, there was always a negative connotation
attached to it. Rather than simply saying that it meant a decline in manufacturing jobs for an area, the
term was used as a punishment and a show of power. In its origins, deindustrialization was used by the
winners of a conflict to describe how they would take away industry from the losing nation or state.
For this reason, it can be seen how the term developed a negative connotation. The term grew
tremendously in usage around the 1970s, when factories began to downsize what would become
known as the

What Is The Theme Of The Kiss By Kate Chopin
The Kiss
The Kiss is Kate Chopin s short story about a woman scheming to marry a wealthy man. The story
was written on September 19, 1894, and first published in Vogue on January 17, 1895. The contents of
the story are as follows.
The outside was still light, but the curtains were covered inside and the light smoke from the fireplace
emitted a dim, strange light on the room, leaving dark shadows. Brantain was sitting in one of these
shadows, and he was clenched and uncomfortable. Thanks to the darkness, he could comfortably
direct his love filled gaze to the girl sitting in the fireplace. The girl was so beautiful, she had a
beautiful skin color for healthy brunette girls, and she seemed very calm as she stroked the silky
feather of the cat in her lap. And occasionally, he looked glanced at his friend in the shadows. They

In the same way, he described the room as full of deep shadows , reflecting the relationship of Chopin
Brantain and Nathalie, not all as they seem (at least for Nathalie). Something that is clear to the
readers as they continue to read the story. Chopin seems to be discovering passion and money.
Although it is clear that Brantain loved Nathalie at any stage in the story, the reader doubts that this
love is mutually shared. There is an attitude saying that Nathalie married Brantain, not love, but rather
a comfortable life with Brantain; A rich man who is aware of the reader (as opposed to Harvy). It is
possible that Chopin s women (who wrote the story) might claim that people have established
financial security or stability, and instead of marrying love, many women should marry men who can.

who knows you better than you do? This brings me to the topic of my discussion. Even though there

That no one has the right to decide what is right for them, and that no one should be able to mandate
what they have to or do not have to do. This topic is no different to them than say, flying in an
airplane. No one tells them that they have to fly in an airplane, which requires putting their life at risk,
yet they themselves make the decision to do so or not. According to our text, Utilitarianism evaluates
whether an act is right or wrong in terms of the act s consequences, and argues that, given a set of
choices, the act we should choose is that which produces the best results for the greatest number
affected by that choice. To break it down even further, the rule utilitarian contends that one should do
things that, as a rule, generate the greatest good for the greatest number (Mosser, K, 2010). I believe
this to be the philosophy that the government has taken into account when establishing the seat belt
mandate laws. They, being those who make these types of laws, are in fact looking out for what they
believe is the greater good for the majority involved. They are not taking into account our god given
freedom to make these types of choices for ourselves. On the other hand, those who oppose the

Lsd Advantages And Disadvantages
Lysergic acid diethylamide, more popularly known as LSD or acid, is a psychedelic drug that has a
long and controversial history in the United States. LSD, a schedule one drug, is a product of
diethylamine and lysergic acid and has its roots in medicine, recreation, and spiritual ceremonies. It is
most well known for its hallucinogenic and psychotropic properties. On top of its more traditional
claims to fame, it has also been involved in conspiracies concerning the intelligence agency. LSD was
first introduced to the world in 1938 when it was developed by Albert Hofmann, a Swiss chemist.

seventy years or so, it has branched out into other areas of interest, mainly recreational and ritualistic
use. Despite being designed as medication intended to help those with psychiatric trouble, LSD
currently holds no approved medical use. It was determined that the hallucinations and other side
effects far outweighed any benefits that the drug may have enacted. In today s society, LSD is most
commonly seen in the recreational and, more often, spiritual categories of its consumption.
Recreational consumption of LSD reached its peak during the 1960 s as the youth culture of the time
had accepted hallucinogenic drugs as the staple for ingestion. The public acceptance in addition to
abundant advocacy from popular public images, notably the Grateful Dead who provided the primary
avenue of distribution through their concerts, carried LSD use to an all time high. The use of LSD has

First Date Horror Stories Analysis
5 first date horror stories
( removed HTML )
First dates are uncomfortable for everyone. You spend forever doing your makeup and assembling the
perfect outfit, all while being one giant ball of anxiety. During the date, you re worried that he or she
doesn t like you, you re talking about yourself too much, or you experience the dreaded awkward
silence. Basically, the entire ordeal is chaos.
Just be thankful none of your first dates have turned into these horror stories.
1. Parental tag along
As if first dates aren t awkward enough, imagine if your date brought an unexpected guest, and that
unexpected guest was your date s dad. Unfortunately, this was a reality for one girl s blind date. We
bet she ll never go on a blind ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Douche central
We ve all been there. You go out on a date with someone you discover that you just can t stand.
Whether the date is overly sexual or a good ol narcissist, there s nothing worse than suffering through
dinner with a person who has a genuinely horrible personality.
The worst is when your date then tries and makes a move, and you re sitting there thinking Wait, did
he/she actually think that went well?

3. Unknowingly becoming the other woman
Going out on a date, you never expect the person you re seeing to be previously engaged. One woman
had the most embarrassing night of her life when her date s wife showed up at the restaurant to make a
scene. Can you say awkward?
4. Gross eaters
There is no worse sound than someone chewing with his or her mouth open. Going on a date with
someone who doesn t possess basic table manners is our definition of hell. Unfortunately, too many
people have been forced to engage with other people for the first time under these circumstances.
Yuck!

5. Crazy cat lady
Having pets is awesome...as long as you don t talk about them too much. One guy was forced to sit
through hours of his date showing him pictures of her cat that she dresses up in costumes. Not the best
way to give off non crazy vibes on the first

How Did The Mistakes King Louis Xvi Made
Of all of the mistakes king Louis XVI made, whether it be not taxing the rich, his frivolous spending
and just overall weakness, I think the worst mistake he made was trying to flee the country. With the
country already on edge from the revolution and the fact that the people who hated you the most and
you screwed over the most were the ones in charge,it kind of seemed like a bad time to flee the
country. But let s give King Louis XVI the benefit of the doubt, maybe he was getting overwhelmed
with the fact his power was being ripped from his hands. Even though his power was getting ripped
from his hands because of the mistakes he himself made. He did things like making the voting of the
National Assembly unfair to a huge amount of

Persuasive Essay On Legalizing Abortion
Abortion: the termination of a pregnancy after, accompanied by, resulting in, or closely followed by
the death of the embryo or fetus. Throughout our lives we are constantly taking other people s
opinions into consideration. We care more about what people think of us, rather than how we think of
ourselves. In reality, the only opinion that matters is your own. Abortion has been legal since 1973.
People have been arguing whether it should be legal or illegal ever since. Abortion should stay
legalized for various reasons. A woman has rights, and these rights include what she gets to do with
her body. The U.S. Supreme Court decided in favor of abortion rights during the case of Roe v. Wade
on January 22, 1973. They stated that This right of privacy... is broad enough to encompass a woman s
decision whether or not to terminate her pregnancy. People argue that a baby is capable of feeling pain
when it is killed. This is completely false. A developing fetus s brain starts to structure between the 7th
and 8th months of gestation and during this time they start to perceive pain. This is far past the time
when an abortion is carried out. So technically, the baby can t feel anything at the time of the ... Show

Nobody wants to feel unwanted. Getting pregnant is an extremely important decision between two
people that requires consideration, preparation, and tedious planning. If you force a women to keep
her baby, regardless of what she wants, then the rate of unwanted and neglected children will spike.
These children who aren t properly cared for often end up committing crimes or getting involved with
illegal activities. Studies show that legalized abortion has directly affected the decrease in the amount
of crimes being committed per year. If you raise a child that you carefully planned for, in a welcoming
home, then it is less likely that the child will end up getting involved in suspicious

  • 2. Being A Palliative Care Nurse Palliative Care Throughout this course, I have learned new information and refreshed myself on old information. I was also able to connect old information with caring for individuals going through palliative or end of life care. Being a palliative care nurse can be a busy and stressful job. The nurse needs to be fully educated on many different areas to be able to provide the best possible care for the patients and their families. A few of the topics that we discussed were the role of the palliative care nurse, cultural competency, pain control of those in palliative care, communication strategies, and legal and ethical issues that may occur during the end of one s life. Role of Professional Nurse in Palliative Care Nurses of all areas have many different roles and responsibilities. As a palliative care nurse, their roles can include being a consultant, educator, role model, and mentor (Matzo Sherman, 2015, p. 13). In the video Lessons On Living From The Dying An Interview With A Palliative Care Nurse On Kirsty TV (2013), the nurse showed that it is important to educate the patient and their family, be available for the patient in many forms such as an active listener, a shoulder to cry on, etc, involve the family in the healthcare and the decisions that are being made, provide a calm environment and a positive atmosphere (kick the negativity out the door immediately), and most importantly be there with the patient during this time. • 4. Crime And Deviance In The Dark Knight By Christopher Nolan Throughout The Dark Knight by Christopher Nolan crime and deviance is seen throughout the film. Crime and deviance in The Dark Knight has two faces as society accepts crime for those whose are helping them and at the same time punishes those who are punished. Society in Gotham accepts crime when the Batman commits it to help for the betterment of society; however, crime is not accepted when it is committed by mob bosses, gangs, criminal cops, and most importantly through the joker. The forms of deviancy/crime which are seen throughout the film is the Labeling Approach, Human Rights Approach, and Human Diversity Approach. The Labelling Approach is a theory in which an individual s identity is determined or influenced by the terms that is used to describe or classify them, through the use of serotyping someone. This is seen within The Dark Knight when the Joker recruits those who have been labelled as mentally insane, or have been outcast by society. This makes them believe that have a sense of being within society as they start to create their own society, and those who do not follow the norms that the Joker puts into place. Through allowing the joker to recruit those who have a negative label, do to the Joker having a label himself of being a villain by both sides of society. Not being accepted by anyone, even his own, which forces him to act on such a label through committing crimes that are not even the norms of the criminal society. This behavior is being seen as a rationale by both sides of society the general public, and criminals by not allowing the Joker and his associates fit within the norms that are being set for them. This also helps society within Gotham to make sure that those with a label are not socially accepted such as those that have a mental illness, and who perform criminal acts. However, at the same time it gives the people of Gotham as a sense of power over those that have a label, and the sense that they have a position over society. Furthermore, the Human Rights Approach argues that crime occurs whenever a human right is violated, no matter of what context the crime is being committed, regardless of whether the crime was legal or not. This is seen within The Dark Knight when ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. An Example Of Foreshadowing In The Leap 1. An example of foreshadowing in The Leap occurs when the narrator recalls her mother telling her that she would be amazed at how many things a person can do within the act of falling . This foreshadows their leap from the fire. Erdrich builds suspense throughout the story through multiple references to falling and being saved leading to the expectation that something bad will happen to the narrator. Erdrich also creates suspense through her use of words, such as describing the storm which caused the death of Anna s husband as a deadly gale . 2. An example of contrast in the story is that between the first time Anna makes a leap in order to protect the life of her unborn child, and the final leap in which Anna saves the narrator from the fire. During the first leap, Anna makes a decision in the attempt to allow her baby a full life; however, the child ends up dying only a few months later. In the final leap, Anna once again must rescue her child, and this time succeeds in allowing her child a long life. Erdrich is using contrast here to illustrate the importance in not letting past failures prevent her from taking a risk. In the Aikido course I remember when Sensei would speak about how an actual dojo has people who are determined with Aikido and are more serious with Aikido than the regular student in the Aikido course. I could understand what Sensei meant because I could see the determination and hard work these students have when they do testing. They put the most effort they can when testing compared to the students in the Aikido course. The most significant part was that after students finished their test there was encouragement to applause, and this shows that the students admired each other in their hard work and dedication. This applause and admiration is not that common in our Aikido course sessions because it is apparent that people who have determination with Aikido have more enthusiasm and love for it. I visited the Chushinkan Dojo in Buena Park and learned a little more about Aikido not mainly in techniques, but how Aikido is viewed in a different setting such as an actual dojo where individuals are serious with Aikido. • 9. Modern Dance, By Miriam Giguere Contemporary dance was developed in the early 20th century as a movement against the rigid technique of ballet (Blackfish Arts Acadamy, 2006). Using the natural lines of the body to create new movements, the contemporary dance style usually has more fluidity than that of conventional dance styles (Freeman, 2013). In the book Beginning Modern Dance , Miriam Giguere says The function of dance is communication. . . . By communication is not meant to tell a story or to project an idea, but to communicate experience by means of action . . . out of this came a different use of the body as an instrument, as the violin is an instrument. Body is the basic instrument, intuitive, instinctive. As a result an entirely contemporary set of technics was evolved. (Giguere, 2014). A forerunner in the changing face of modern dance was choreographer and performer Martha Graham. Graham took up dance at the age of 22, during the time when women were fighting for the right to vote (Mapes, 2013). Being both shorter and older than most dancers, Graham had to use her body in a different way to the others at the Denishawn School of dance. This went against all of the principles that female dancers had originally been taught (Mapes, 2013). Over the duration of her career, Graham created one of the only sets of technique that is still practiced in today s contemporary style (Mapes, 2013). Focusing on two main principles, contraction and release, Graham s technique was strikingly different to that of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. John Peter Brief Biography John Peter (1900 1950) began his career in the early 1920 s, after a musical childhood and several years of study in US. By the time his first opera, The Protagonist (Peter Georg), was performed in April 1926, he was an established young German composer. But he had already decided to devote himself to the musical theater, and his works with Bertolt Brecht soon made him famous all over Europe. He fled the new Nazi leadership in March 1933 and continued his indefatigable efforts, first in Paris (1933 35), then in the U.S. until his death. Certain common threads tie together his career: a concern for social justice, an aggressive pursuit of highly regarded playwrights and lyricists as collaborators, and the ability to adapt to audience tastes no matter where he found himself. His most important works: the Violin Concerto (1925), The Threepenny Opera (Bertolt Brecht, 1928), Rise and Fall of the City of Mahagonny (Brecht, 1930), The Pledge (Caspar Neher, 1932), The Seven Deadly Sins (Brecht, 1933), Lady in the Dark (Moss Hart and Ira Gershwin, 1941), Street Scene (Elmer Rice and Langston Hughes, 1947), Lost in the Stars (Maxwell Anderson, 1949). He is suggesting that Eddie will face fate later in the play, and watched it run its blood course This is letting the audience know that someone in the play will die, and by using juxtaposition, Alfieri is hinting that the person who will die, will be Eddie. I introduce the framework of liminality to understand identity formation of transnational individuals. Transnational and diasporic identities have been understood as the incorporation of multiple geographical sources of identity, inclusive of locations on both sides of the border and having multiple homes (Szeghi 2014:163). The Downfall Of Marine Life On The Brink Of Catastrophic... http://www.cnn.com/2013/03/22/world/oceans overfishing climate change/ Over fished and Under protected: Ocean Life on the Brink of Catastrophic Collapse Tom Levitt, for CNN Updated: 11:07 AM, Wednesday March 27, 2013. The downfall of fish in the Atlantic Ocean is a result of numerous factors such as certain fishing techniques, climate change, and pollution. One type of fishing technique that is causing serious damage to marine life is bottom trawling. Bottom trawling is a form of fishing that involves a large net, about 60 meters wide, and dragging it along the bottom of the sea with heavy weights from a trawler. Bottom trawling causes irreversible damage to coral life and slow growing fish species, for example the Orange Roughy s (Slime Head) species has decreased more than 90%. Halibut disappeared from the North Atlantic in the 19th century. In the North Ocean, Blue Fin Tuna disappeared in the 1930 s 1940 s, and today have disappeared across the seas of Northern Europe. This is a paragraph from an article, Over fished and Under protected: Oceans on the Brink of Catastrophic Collapse by Tom Levitt, for CNN. Marine conservationists compare it to a bulldozer, with the nets pulled for as far as 20km, picking up turtles, coral and anything else in their path. The by catch, unwanted fish and other ocean life thrown back into the sea, can amount to as much as 90% of a trawl s total catch. Opinion 2: Deep sea fishing is oceanocide . During 1990 2008, an ... Riordon. Riordon s purpose is to educate people about politics and to stimulate reform in their corrupt political system. The first theme of this book is Plunkitt s use of patronage. He openly discusses quid pro quo: he gives people jobs, opportunities, and welfare services in exchange for their political allegiance. For example, he talks about giving young men opportunities to play in the baseball club or sing in the glee club. In exchange, they vote the way he tells them to. Above all things, he explains avoid a dress suit. You have no idea of the harm that dress suits have done in politics. He goes on to say that he was once accused of buying a $10,000 automobile and a $125 dress suit right before an election and that he suffered badly at the polls for it. The people wouldn t have minded much if I had been accused of robbin the city treasury... but the automobile and the dress suit were too much for them. 3 Plunkitt also presents an anti elite education worldview. In the book he explains how to become a politician and he says that going to college detracts from your political ability, that scholars can t possibly become effective politicians. Plunkitt maintains that a person who goes through college is handicapped and that the odds against him succeeding are 100 to 1. He also claims that civil service reform is a curse, that giving people qualification examinations is a travesty that will destroy patriotism and cultivate anarchy. The National Park Service is a smaller government agency within the Department of Agriculture. This is the agency that is in dire need of legislation to restrict bioprospecting, and manage the profit margin that national parks can receive from allowing bioprospecting companies to use their resources. Observation I Harms/Significance/Motive The Department of Agriculture manages land owned by the federal government. As a result, the Department of Agriculture would enforce laws regarding how the federal government might profit from prospecting natural biological resources within the United States. However, if Congress does not pass legislation to dictate when, where and how bioprospecting can be profited from then individual agencies may characterize bioprospecting as scientific research. It is moral and legally ethical to use bioprospecting profits for maintaining national parks. The Biodiversity Treaty sanctioned that countries whose biological resources are exploited by bioprospecting companies have a right to share the financial benefits resulting from the sale of these resources (Adair, 1997). A Christmas Carol Analysis Chains composed of links forged from sin, sorrow and seclusion are Ebenezer Scrooge s awaiting fate, unless he can put his pride behind him to gain forgiveness from those he hurt...before it s too late. Scrooge believes that man s business is to make money, which opposes Dickens teachings, in his book A Christmas Carol. In A Christmas Carol, Charles Dickens shows that one s business in life is to commit to charity and helping others, through what Scrooge learns from the Three Spirits lessons. In stave I, Scrooge thinks man s business is making money, which caused him to be the way he is, penurious and lonely. In the following piece of evidence, Scrooge gets into an argument with his nephew. Clearly expressing the fact he very much dislikes Christmas, in this argument, and that it makes no one any richer, so there should be no point to celebrate; especially for someone who is apparently as poor as Fred, his nephew. But, Fred believes there is so much more to Christmas. On page 5, in stave I, Scrooge says to Fred, Whats Christmastime to you but a time for paying bills without money; a time for finding yourself a year older, and not an hour richer... This evidence is relevant, because it shows how Scrooge believes that Christmas is unproductive and ineffective. While Fred believes otherwise, he did not convince his Uncle Scrooge of the true meaning of Christmas, not in this encounter anyway. Still carrying on the argument, Scrooge tells Fred his honest opinion about Christmas. From Scrooge to Fred, ...If I could work my will... every idiot who goes about with Merry Christmas on his lips should be boiled with his own pudding, and buried with a stake of holly through his heart, stave I, page 6. This evidence is essential, because it unmistakably shows Scrooge s true hatred for anyone who carries the Christmas spirit in his presence. After all the Spirit s lessons, Scrooge now believes mankind s businesses is to give to and take care of others, and be happy with what you ve been given. In the book, after Scrooge wakes up on Christmas morning in the best mood ever, he runs into the charity workers that asked him to donate to the less fortunate, at the beginning of the book. According to Will Spink, most states are currently operating a state lottery despite its bleak history in the U.S. (Spink 1). Since 1983, North Carolina has introduced lottery bills in the legislature every year (NC Christian 15). North Carolina Governor, Mike Easley, favors a lottery for increasing revenues for education (Analysis 2). Other states have had the exact opposite to occur. In California, ninety percent of school superintendents believe it had an adverse effect on their getting other funds for their schools. In 1987, a study was conducted in Illinois that gave validity to what many lottery opponents claim happens in many cases: While the lottery money to education increases, the total education funding in the state budget increases at a lower rate than it has in previous years (Spink 3). Money magazine s study proved that states with lotteries designate a lower percentage of their total budget to education than do states without a lottery. However, proponents could point to the fact that lottery states on an average spend more on education per student, than non lottery states (NC Insider 2). Research has difficulty proving or disproving social consequences of lotteries. A survey by Gam Anon, the family counterpart of Gamblers Anonymous, did reveal that ten percent of its members abused their children, and fifty percent of the spouses reported physical and verbal abuse. This means that Ohio experienced a decline in manufacturing jobs. While this is a simple definition, the origins of the term deindustrialization gives a deeper, more pejorative meaning to the term. This darker meaning to the term is perhaps more effectively conveyed through the term rust belt. After Ohio wen through the process of deindustrialization, the lack of industrial jobs in a once booming industrial area left many factories empty and decommissioned. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The term traces its roots back to World War II. The concept of deindustrialization began in Nazi Germany. The Nazis described the areas that they had invaded in conquered in this way. This is because they eliminated any industry from the areas that they took over, forcing these states to become dependent upon Germany for economic and industrial development. This philosophy was also used as a punishment for those countries, showing the power of Nazi Germany. After the end of the war, the Allies began to use the term deindustrialization , as well. Essentially taking the definition from the Nazis, they used this term in discussions of how to punish Nazi Germany in post war rebuilding plans. Regardless of who was using the term in World War II, there was always a negative connotation attached to it. Rather than simply saying that it meant a decline in manufacturing jobs for an area, the term was used as a punishment and a show of power. In its origins, deindustrialization was used by the winners of a conflict to describe how they would take away industry from the losing nation or state. For this reason, it can be seen how the term developed a negative connotation. Even though there are some statistics that may show a lower rate of injury or death if you wear a seat belt when in an automobile accident, I do not feel that the government has the right to make wearing a seat belt mandatory for adults because by making seat belts mandatory it takes away from our right to freedom of choice, and wearing a seat ... According to our text, Utilitarianism evaluates whether an act is right or wrong in terms of the act s consequences, and argues that, given a set of choices, the act we should choose is that which produces the best results for the greatest number affected by that choice. To break it down even further, the rule utilitarian contends that one should do things that, as a rule, generate the greatest good for the greatest number (Mosser, K, 2010). I believe this to be the philosophy that the government has taken into account when establishing the seat belt mandate laws.
