Barbie Girl Research Paper
Girls around the world are already unsatisfied with their bodies, and if you add toys that are un
proportional and make the girls feel even worse about their bodies what do you get? You get people
with eating disorders trying to make themselves skinner and people spending thousands of dollars on
plastic surgeries. These girls are trying to make themselves look like something unreachable, just
because they think there is only one way to be beautiful. When girls are young they are given these
toys that bring them down, so why do we give them to our children? We shouldn t and we can stop
how this is happening, we need to get rid of Barbie dolls so girls don t endanger themselves and
always feel bad about their bodies. If a person were to

long each day for it to be fair to your dog or as a temporary measure to help your dog adjust and

Naturally you will want to do some research in to the potential day care providers. Talk to them, view
their web sites, ask questions, get references so you can take a view and get a feel for which one will
be most suitable for you and your dog.
You want to be comfortable that he is in the best hands when he cannot be in yours. You do not want
to send a nervous dog to somewhere which might make his anxiety issues worse so do take your time
to choose the best provider you can. A visit to the provider s premises is also advised so you can chat
to the owner, see if everything is clean and tidy, see how other dogs are behaving and if they are
happy.
It will of course cost to use a doggy day care provider so make sure you have the budget for it. This
alone will not cure any dog separation anxiety issues however used in conjunction with other methods
which you should still work on with your dog, the combination of all can have a powerful cumulative
effect and help your dog to adjust.
Patience is the key when working with a dog with separation anxiety. Many dogs need you to be in
charge and make them feel at ease and safe. So by helping to take stresses away from them you are
helping them to cope. Find what works best for your dog and go with

Social Class Educational Structure in Brave New World
Introduction
Social stratification, or dividing people into classes, was and is still prevalent in society in many ways.
In every form division acts as an inhibitor for what certain citizens can do, but it helps form a stable
class structure as there is little mobility. Namely, stratification is most evident in the various realms of
education: elementary, secondary, and post secondary. The opportunities of specific classes to achieve
feats in education is often extremely disproportionate (Benson,1989, p. 159) leaving lower classes at
the bottom of society. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Brave New World Classes. Alphas, Betas, Gammas, and Epsilons, all of these common group names
make up the bulk of the class system in Huxley s Brave New World. Social stratification prevails in
this make believe society and is seen as a large contributor to the differing levels of intellectual
soundness of the different cast members. Citizens of Brave New World are engineered in order to be
either genius or dumb as a nail (Huxley, 1932, p. 25). Huxley (1932, p. 18) described the entire
process as a major instrument of social stability for the community. By depriving the lover classes of
any intelligent prowess(opportunities) a secure society was forged in the eyes of the Authorities.
Differences in Education. In order to make the society even more secure the leaders opened the doors
of universities to the best and brightest that were decanted. I found that the top schools, like Eton
(Huxley, 1932, p. 148), in the book were only made available to the most formidable thinkers. Such a
system confirms my hypothesis that there was a vast difference in just what chances different groups
had at getting an education. Simply the fact that these discrepancies exist demonstrates the power of
social class in education. Differences in opportunities. Social stratification affected education and
many other aspects of society. While the Alphas and Betas were playing obstacle golf the Epsilons and
Gammas were busy battling the many

Act I, Scene 1 starts with King Alonso of Naples with crewmen on a boat. Mirroring the title of the
story, the crew would soon realize that the boat was coming into contact with a storm that causes the
boat to sink. The second scene introduces us to former Duke of Milan, Prospero, and his daughter
Miranda. Prospero reveals his part in creating the storm with his magical powers to Miranda. He made
sure that no one on the ship was hurt. conspired then tells his Miranda that his brother/her uncle
current Duke of Milan, Antonio, conspired with Alonso to take over his position as Duke and banish
him and his daughter to the sea. Thus the reason why the barren land is now their home. He then puts
Miranda to sleep. He then brings forth Ariel, a spirit of his, to give his witness of the storm s aftermath

Sebastian. Before the duo s attempt to assassinate Alonso, Ariel wakes the others up to find both with
swords in their hands. They make nothing nothing of it and move on. In the second scene Trinculo has
escaped the sinking ship on the other side of the island. Caliban thinks that Prospero has filled the
island with spirits to torment his well being. Trinculo then finds Caliban lying on his face and finds
him an interesting thing to have on display in England as a freak act. Trinculo then finds it necessary
to hide under a Caliban s cloak for protection against the storm. Stephano would later find both of

Statement Of Purpose For Liberal Arts
Statement of Purpose
Protyusha Dey
M.A. applicant in Liberal Arts
Our culture is more shaped by the arts and humanities than it often is by politics. Jim Leach
The unique mechanics of patterns and paradigms which unites and divides us as part of the human
race is something that has always appealed to me. India is a country that lives in multiple eras at the
same time. It is my homelands unique diversity and ethos which encouraged me to incline towards
Liberal Arts. Given my education background in media and communication I see changing dynamics
of culture due to globalization. Which needs to be understood, preserve and critiqued as it has the
ripple effect world over. Understanding and sharing knowledge has always come naturally to me given
my desire to explore and research in Liberal Arts I see myself in academia in the future. Humanities is
very important for deliberating the human race as it encompasses fields such as literature, arts,
philosophy and religion these are subject that even STEM(science, technology, engineering, and
mathematics) need the perspective of to serve the human kind better. An M.A. program at John

Alone On The Yukon Trail
The man in this story has had a long and difficult journey, filled with emotional and physical pain. The
only company he had was a native dog who followed him everywhere he went. The cold air of the
Yukon trail presented a major problem for the man as he fought off frost bite. Throughout the story he
struggled against nature a lot. With ups and downs along the way, the weather was always against him
as he thought of ways to survive. In the end, nature won.
Alone on the Yukon trail, there was a man climbing in negative 50 degree weather. He did not believe
it when they said it would be that cold. As the temperature dropped below 50 degrees, the man
realized it was quite cold. The only thing to keep him warm was fire. He climbs for many hours,
trying to get back to camp and to the boys. However right now he was alone with a dog. The only
reason the dog stuck by him was so the man could make fire. The dog had learned about fire, and it
wanted fire. however the only way it could obtain fire is if the man made it. No matter what happened
the dog kept coming back for the fire. He walked as far as he could before he ... Show more content on

his mouth but the temperature was so cold that his mouth was iced shut and his saliva could not fall.
The result was a long piece of yellow ice hanging from his lips. this shows how cold it is and that the
temperature of frost was even worse. Everything was covered with multiple inches of snow and most
of the lakes were frozen solid. However not all of the streams were solid. The man almost fell through
several times and the dog did fall through once when it was forced to cross. The man successfully
made a fire to warm them both up. However, when the man fell to his knees in a lake and he tried to
make a fire; he failed. He tried twice to warm his frostbitten body, but did not

Essay On Exxon
7.0 Background of Exxon
Exxon has evolved into the biggest publicly traded petroleum corporation in the world for over the last
135 years. The corporation started as Standard Oil Trust Company in Ohio was founded by John D.
Rockefeller and his partners in 1870 (Meyers and Holusha, 1986).
In 1911, the U.S. Supreme Court separated Standard Oil into 33 distinct organisations, including
Standard Oil of New (Jersey Standard), Socony Oil, Vacuum Oil and a few organisations that held the
name Standard Oil. Jersey Standard progressed toward becoming Exxon Corporation in 1972. 27
years later, Exxon joined with Mobil Oil Corporation, once called Socony Vacuum Oil, to form Exxon
Mobil Corporation. (Exxon.com, 2017)
The company became a worldwide corporation in 1965 (Miller, 1992). The company was an industry
pioneer in metallocene catalyst innovation to make special polymers with enhanced execution.
Assembling plants were located in 24 nations. By the late 1980s, Exxon was one of the five most
prominent organisations in the United States with offers of $80 billion (Fearn Banks, 2002).

How Did Australia s Wwi Service History Contribute To...
Essay 2
The Federation of Australia was only seventeen years old when the war ended and a national identity
began to emerge which reflected upon the sacrifice and service of Australian armed service men and
women.
Did Australia s WWI service history contribute to a national identity and what was the identity that
was forged? Discuss.
In 1901 Australia was a part of a Federation between six colonies which British Parliament passed
legislation and Australia joined as part of the Commonwealth. Which paved the way for Australia to
be recognised by the World.
Australian National Identity was forged by multi cultural nationalities. Within our country we now

Australia forged its own identity from this world war 1 due to the fact of the signed immigrants and

immigrants that came to our shore during the gold rush, I do not believe we would be the multicultural

With the Paliment deciding in 1901 for Australians involvement with Britan and with the Anniversary

Research Paper On Airbus A380
The biggest commercial aircraft on the market right now is the Airbus A380. This amazing feat of
engineering is so spectacular that it is the biggest that a commercial aircraft can be! The airbus A380
can be described in many different ways, most people call it spectacular or even just flat out amazing
that something this big can even get off the ground. While the industry continues to make
improvements to flight, they are also keeping the costs down, so that anyone flying can experience
flying in an Airbus, especially if they are traveling abroad. Many would say that the idea of building
the Airbus was thought of by a French transport minister named Jean Chamant and a German
economics minister, named Karl Schiller in 1969, but in all actuality, the idea was originated in in
1967 by ministers in France, Germany and Britain. They all agreed for the purpose of strengthening
European co operation in the field of aviation technology and thereby promoting economic and
technological progress in Europe, to take appropriate measures for the joint development and
production of an airbus (Early Days, 1967 1969). They knew that if they did not come up with a new
concept for air flight, that the Americans would always be the leaders in the aircraft industry.
They knew it would take the effort of not just one country, but many that had built different aspects of
planes, and were well known for that contribution. France was to supply the cockpit, the control
systems, and the lower

Corporate Branding is Essential for Today s Competative...
In this competitive world, nothing is as certain as uncertainty and nothing are as sustained as change
for any businesses. Strategy building is not as simple as possible for companies and the ground rules
for competition have shifted from predictable markets or stable product range to more dynamic and
globalized ways. The traditional perceptions and applications of branding has been fully dominated by
a product mindset. But changes in the modern era and huge technological developments laid
difficulties in managing realistic product differentiation in the face of duplication and homogenization
of products and services. Changes in the attitudes and mindsets of the customers are also making
markets more complex and competitive in nature. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Accordingly, Hatch and Schultz conceptualized corporate branding in following ways: (a) alignment
between origin and day to day activities of the business (organizational culture); (b) where the
organization aspires to go (strategic vision); (c) all nested in perceptions of who the organization is
(identity). (Schultz et al. 2005, p. 24)
Based in who we are as an organization , a corporate branding focuses on developing the distinctive
features of the organization through managerial and organizational processes. These processes
endeavor to express who the company is as an organization and demonstrate how it is different
compared with its competitors, all the while making this difference relevant and engaging to its
stakeholders. With this said, it is clear that corporate branding is influenced by other disciplines like
organizational theories, Strategies etc, and considered CB as cross disciplinary in nature.
Most of the previous studies are carried by marketing scholars since branding is an extract of
marketing discipline, conceptualization of product branding is purely outside in thinking and
stakeholders are consumers and customers only. The paper tries to describe the movement towards
corporate branding from product branding and can be best quoted as shift from classic branding to
corporate branding . Furthermore, branding literature argues that CB

Should Uniforms Wear School Uniforms
For many years schools have become more about fashion rather than education. During this time
teachers and principals have debated on what solution to come up with. Should Sir John A. Macdonald
(SJAM) have uniforms? Some people believe that uniforms take away the right of self expression.
Others argue that uniforms keep students focused on studies rather than fashion. Wearing school
uniforms should become mandatory because it ensures equality within the school, reduces expenses,
and it creates discipline in the school. Uniforms maintain equality within the school. Students should
not have to worry about peer pressure when it comes to their clothes. When everyone is dressed the
same, concerning about how you look isn t so important. A study in the U.S Department of Education
shows that by wearing a school uniform student s sense of security raised 41% and over ž of teachers
agreed that uniforms were the reason for that happened. Students feel much more secure in school
since they cannot be victims of bullies for being dressed in a certain way. For example, it would be
much more difficult for a bully to make fun of how students are dressed especially if they are dressed
exactly the same. According to the Department of Education in the U.S students sense of belonging
also increased, this is because when students are dressed like their peers it makes them feel more
equitable, valuable and included. Academically this is important for students because if students are
feeling unhappy and excluded they will not be interested in their studies or even coming to school.
Some people might argue that uniforms do not spread equality because it takes away the right of
expressing their individuality. While that may be true individuality is what distinguishes us from
others, but clothing isn t the only way to do that. You can express yourself through what you do for
example sports, music, art, etc. This is beneficial to students because they won t judge others by their
looks but by their personality. As for equality, it means equal, which is a key reason to have uniforms
because it allows all students to look and feel equal. In Junior high, it is hard enough to go through
your peers judging you for how you look, but

Upon seeing us marching towards them, General Tilly s forces likewise advanced towards us. The
battle ensued with our forces trying to quell their attacks of pikes, artilleries and cavalries. It was an
exhausting 5 hours long battle as we repelled countless attacks from our enemies. The General s
infantry used mixed formations of around 3,000 gunmen and pikemen, while the others from them
charged with their cavalries. The gunmen formed the outer section of the battle array, while the
pikemen gathered at the center. Cavalries were positioned on the wings of their battalion and led the
charges before the gunmen and pikemen. For our enemies, it was a standard battle formation. The
joint power of the King s army and the Saxons, on the other hand, used more innovative battle tactics,
which made our forces more mobile and agile than our enemies. Our firing technique was more
advanced than our enemy, utilizing five ranks pikemen at the back and six ranks gunmen at the front.
The first three ranks of gunmen fire simultaneously and the last three ranks served as secondary
firepower. This firing technique is very innovative since the first three ranks had a variety of firing
technique. The first rank is kneeling, the second rank is crouching and the third rank is firing. The
simultaneous firing of this three ranks have great firepower to suppress cavalry attacks, while the
secondary firepower coming from the

The Path of Respiratory Therapy Introduction About a year ago, I came home from work one night
and walked into the kitchen to where my mother was standing. There was a feeling of uneasiness and
the panic began to clench my stomach. She looked so sad, so stressed; maybe it was the frizzy hair, the
bags beneath her eyes, the way her back slouched in a low negative curve, or her eyes. Her eyes
looked at me before she turned them away, but in that fragment of a second, it s almost like I could

Research Paper On Florence In The Renaissance
Florence: Heart of the Renaissance By Yusra Farooq
During the 15th century, Florence was the home of the Renaissance and the birthplace of our modern
western world. You can enjoy much of the greatest art created, during that exciting age, today like
Michelangelo s David or Botticelli s Birth of Venus. There s also Ghiberti s glorious 3D bronze gates,
Fra Angelico s serene beauty of paintings and the Duomo that kicked off the Renaissance. After the
fall of ancient Rome, Europe wallowed in centuries of relative darkness. There was little learning,
commence, or travel. Then, in about 1400, in Florence, there was a Renaissance. This exciting rebirth
of the culture of ancient Greece and Rome swept from Florence to all across Europe. Artists
rediscovered the wonder of nature and the human body. Their art expressed the optimism and
confidence of the new age. The Western civilization made up for lost centuries with huge gains in
science, economics, and art. Florence was the center of it all and for a good reason; it was where
capitalism was replacing feudalism and being the middleman of trade between west and east, the city
had money and it knew what to do with it. Wealthy merchants and banking families, like the Medici
who ruled Florence for generations, commissioned splendid art to show their civic pride. And
Florence unleashed an explosion of innovation by recognizing and paying creative genius like no one
else.
The Renaissance was an age of humanism. A time of confidence,

The Role Of Shameless Fiona In The Odyssey
Taryn Geiger
Mr. Carlson
Honors English 1
May 8th, 2017 Odysseus vs. Fiona Gallagher
Fiona Gallagher from Shameless shows the complexity of human heroes through her strengths and
flaws in a similar way that the Greeks created Odysseus. All throughout Shameless Fiona is in a very
difficult spot, being responsible for her four brothers and sister. She is the oldest in the young herd of
kids, and has all of the responsibility resting on her shoulders. Despite being able to handle the
situation most days, some days she can t, tempted by the chance of having a normal life if she gets out.
In the Odyssey, Odysseus struggles with the choices he has to make. Whether he should continue his
journey back to Ithaca, or stay with the many gods he has ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They both have strengths they show in each story, showing their courage and bravery. Fiona makes the
decision to legally become the guardian of the kids, no longer having a way out. After a talk with the
judge and being asked if she agrees to the conditions of being their guardians she answers, Yes I do to
the court (Abbott A Long Way from Home ). This reminds me of the time Odysseus sacrificed himself
to get his men past the sirens. Having himself tied to the mast of the ship and held back, while his men
s ears were stuffed with beeswax to block out the deadly song. The lovely voices in ardor appealing
over the water made me crave to listen, and I tried to say Untie me! [...] If Odysseus came free from
the restraints holding him down, he would have been killed by the sirens (Homer 12.123 125). By
being courageous and thinking fast he saves his men, risking his own life in the process. However,
with great strengths and courage come horrific flaws. In Shameless, Fiona is tempted to leave town
with Steve and visit Costa Rica, leaving all of the kids behind in order to live a normal life. After
Steve pleads for her to go, she replies with, Well I don t have a passport. (Abbott Father Frank, Full of

How The Proposed Business Action Is An Innovative Idea

Have you ever had an accident and had to juggle with trying to find a legitimate collision repair shop

Advertising would be very minimal since your customer will be notified of the collision center when
they have an accident or when you have potential new clients to inform them on how serious your
company is about the quality of repairs that you have your own body shop to do the repairs. The
advantage of keeping everything in house would be cost effective because the money is not switching
hands instead it is paying for a service to repair the customer s vehicle. There would not be any ideas
on how to scam the insurance company on ways to make the total claim amount higher so in turn the
body shop makes more money for more unnecessary unethical repairs. In recent years due to the
recession, a lot of local businesses were forced to close down due to lack of consumer spending. As of
the year 2013 car sales has hit 15.6 million in sales up about eight percent from the year 2012. The
increase in car sales means to increase in the insurance business in regards to premiums and that
means higher employment rates therefor increase in chances of accidents which leads to increase in
collision repairs and claims. As reported by Susanna Gotsch (2014) According to data from the
Automotive Aftermarket Industry Association, the number of U.S. shops specializing in collision
repair in the U.S. has declined nearly every year between 2002 and 2011, with the largest drop
occurring in 2010, and the final tally as of 2012 at just

Corruption In The Great Gatsby
The American Dream is the belief that you can become prosperous and successful through dedication
and hard work. Fitzgerald uses settings in his novel The Great Gatsby to present the good, the bad and
the ugly sides of the American dream to communicate with the reader and show the darker side of the
time period and the negatives of The American Dream behind the glamour and glitz, some of which
we can even link to today s society. His idea in The Great Gatsby however may have been drafted
from some stories from Tales of the Jazz Age , and more specifically The Diamond as Big as The Ritz
.
We are first presented with Nick Carraway, the narrator of the novel which is told in first person, so
we see the story unfold through Nick s eyes. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Both are portrayed to be desolate places. The Village of Fish consists literally of 12 men and nothing
more. Both settings have a train that runs through them. The significance of this could be that no
journey is without struggle, suffering and sometimes even failure. People set out on a journey to
achieve greatness, but fail and end up in a place such as the Valley of Ashes. There are great
differences though between these two settings. One prominent one is that The Village of Fish is
introduced in great detail to us in chapter two, and aside from a brief mention later on, is ignored the
rest of the tale. The Valley of Ashes however is an important setting. It connects New York to East and
West Egg and is quite an important setting. It is where we first meet Myrtle, Tom s mistress. It is also
where her gruesome demise occurs, so significant events occur here. It is a huge contrast to the Village
of Fish, which doesn t seem very important in Tales of the Jazz Age . It seemed like it was going to be
important, as it was presented in such detail with amazing descriptions, but it was then

Comparison of Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn in The Adventures of Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn

character in the book The Adventures of Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn is the main character in the book
The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. Huck Finn and Tom Sawyer were alike in many ways but they
were also very different.
One way in which Huck Finn and Tom Sawyer are alike is that they are both very brave. In the book

One thing different between Huck Finn and Tom Sawyer is that Huck has no family. Huck lives with
the widow and her sister, Miss Watson. In the book The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, Tom Sawyer
made a gang and they would kill people. One of the rules of the club was if anyone told anyone else
about what happened they would kill that person and their family. One of the boys in the gang pointed
out that Huck had no family so it wasn t fair for him to be in the gang. Huck thought he was not going
to be able to be in the gang but then all at once I thought of a way, and so I offered them Miss Watson
they could kill her . And he was allowed in the gang because the boys agreed that they could just kill
Miss Watson if Huck told anyone.
Another thing different between the two boys is Huck often gets confused or distracted. When Huck
went to Judith Loftus s house he dressed as a girl and first told her that his name was Sarah Williams.
Later he forgets that he is a girl and threads a needle like a boy, throws like a boy, and even forgets his
own name. Sarah s my first name. Some calls me Sarah, some calls me Mary, he said.
One more difference between Tom and Huck is that Tom is very violent and Huck is easy going and
helpful. In Tom s gang he said that they would kill everyone, even women. When one of the boys

Social Reformer And A Cultural Relativist
To be a social reformer and a Cultural Relativist
By Jaimie Ianke
Ethics
PHL 104 475
Is it possible to be a social reformer and a Cultural Relativist? A Cultural Relativist is one who see
morality as a product of that culture. That something is morally right if one s culture approves of it.
This would mean that there are no guidelines on right and wrong. We cannot know any absolute right
or wrong, per Rachels. Not judging another s society on what is right and wrong, would be one simple
way to explain the Cultural Relativist perspective.
Cultural Relativism works well if we were to look at another culture with the following conditions:
The society as a whole would be considered archaic

These movements would have to work differently than any other type of movements within history.
This would be the way to not just be a social reformer and a Cultural Relativism at the same time.
Martin Luther King Jr sought out to change society for the better and to rid of slavery. There is a way
this can be done within the confinements demanded by Cultural Relativism. This being as society has
not been living up to its own ideas. This makes the reformer be seen as to be doing what is for the
better of society. Where the ideas of society have the quality by we conclude any motion as
worthwhile. Then, the idea of social reform in this very restricted way would make sense.
We should not change any part of any culture or society unless it is for the better. Making or wanting
to make any type of change for personal gain of any sorts would not be the correct way of doing
anything unless it is for the good of society. This would be a very good example of the best symbiotic
relationship there actually could be. But without a Cultural Relativist and their perspective on society
we would not have social

Ethical Issues In The Military
The Military has a strong and robust history of ethical education, professionalism, and leadership
training. In fact the military ethos is grounded in the ethical virtues of loyalty, duty, respect, selfless
service, honor, personal courage, and integrity. Military ethics are based on a culture of high standards
for personal conduct, and in many cases the military holds its members to higher standards than others
in society, including those charged to oversee the military itself.
During its history the U.S. military has continuously reinforced and trained its leaders in ethics. In fact
many professional military officers achieve advanced degrees from Command and Staff Colleges,

We have ethical responsibilities to patients that are based on a long history of legal, moral, and
professional codes. Although we are called upon to follow orders, sometimes we must exercise
independent judgment when faced with ethical challenges. The Defense Health Board, acting under
authority of the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Health Affairs, sought to address many of these
issues in their work, Ethical Guidelines and Practices for U.S. Military Medical Professionals Report.
The Board stressed that oversimplified expressions such as mixed agency or dual loyalty did not
accurately capture the complexity of situations that military medical professionals encounter during
wartime. They felt that basic human rights violations, including torture, inhumane treatment, and
experimentation without consent, can never be justified. Dr. Edmund Pellegrino, MD, a prominent

A Love Story
Not a Love Story Oh my gosh, it s Ru Emerson! A girl screamed out. Commotion rippled across the
campus as a hoard of girls started gathering around a particular spot. Ru Emerson was quite used to
this and casually dismissed the girls. Sorry girls, another day! Ru shouted as he grinned, since many
girls were asking him if he was free or had football practice that day. In a split second, the girls
dispersed with disappointed looks on their faces, knowing that they could never have a chance with a
campus football star. Ru always knew he had dashing good looks, as he was quite proud of his thick,
jet black hair, his cloudy grey eyes, and his toned body. On top of all that, he had a great charm. While
silently adoring himself, Ru made his way to the Starbucks on campus to treat himself to an iced
coffee. As he was strolling along the pathway, he looked up at the clear, blue sky, watching a few birds
fly by. On his left, he spotted a few more kooky girls who were crazy for him, so he ducked his head
and stared at the patterned brick path beneath his feet, and kept walking. Ru eventually reached the
familiar glass door at Starbucks and pushed forward with his head still lowered. Suddenly, he felt
something hit his chest and saw a pile of textbooks on his feet. Ru immediately raised his head, only
to find a girl with her hands and knees on the ground. Their gaze met each other for a few seconds,

the system of government. With that being said, the system of government was flawed in a sense that

Feminist Criticism In The Second Sex By Simone De Beauvoir
Simone de Beauvoir is an incredibly influential French philosopher, writer, activist, intellectual, and
social theorist. In 1949, she wrote what is perhaps her most noteworthy text, The Second Sex . In the
novel, Beauvoir explores the notion of femininity and the history of the relationship between men and
women, and makes the ambitious claim that One is not born, but rather becomes, Woman. (283) This
bold statement has sparked the interest of many feminist activists and scholars, but for one to truly
understand Beauvoir s work, one must ask, what does it mean? Although this statement is ostensibly
simple, it holds great meaning and depth. Essentially, it signifies that women are taught to be women,
by their mothers and by society, and are not simply born being society s definition of a woman. She
exemplifies this on multiple occasions in her novel. In one instance, she writes, It is here that little
girls first appear privileged. A second weaning, slower and less brutal than the first one, withdraws the
mother s body from the child s embraces; but little by little boys are the ones who are denied kisses
and caresses; the little girl continues to be doted upon... (285) Here Beauvoir shows that even from
birth, the stereotype that girls are more delicate and fragile than boys is perpetuated by parents treating
girls with more affection and delicacy. In another example, she states, The boy is also brought up by
his mother in the beginning; but she respects his maleness

people inappropriately; slowly claiming their homeland.
The second issue that the Aboriginal people were facing was the ethno cultural groups that came to
Canada from different countries across the globe. Since Asians, Ukrainians, Finns, and Norwegians
came to Canada, the government have somehow forgotten the Aboriginal people. The government of
Canada was focused on the immigration; landing many job opportunities from the people that came

The Role of Color in the Art of Vincent Van Gogh
What role did colour play in the art of Van Gogh?
When people think of Vincent van Gogh they immediately think colour . This is mostly due to his
bright French Paintings, but his first paintings in the Netherlands are never thought of as colourful.
This is untrue, colour was always an important element in Gogh s entire lifetime of works. Even
though the melancholy paintings from Holland and the glowing works from Paris seem completely
different they are a result of the same theory and practise.
Vincent Van Gogh was mostly self thought and began his career in art by studding nineteenth century
how to draw books and copying prints he liked. He felt like he had to master drawing techniques first
in order to become a great painter. Van Gogh also had the idea that he had to work with black and
white before he could master colour. He focused on form and perspective sketches. When he grew
strong enough at drawing he began to start using colour. He became very adventurous and his fearless
colour palette developed into one of the most significant features of his later works.
Van Gogh produced over 150 watercolour paintings in his short life. These didn t feature his use of
texture but, they are undoubtedly his due to the recognizable use of vibrant colour. Originally he used
watercolour to add shadows to his drawings but the more he worked with them the greater he got and
they became finished masterpieces.
After just five years of studying art Gogh felt ambitious and wanted to

Symbolism –Rendering the Hidden Meaning of the Story
Symbolism Rendering The Hidden Meaning of The Story Symbolism is an important element in
reinforcing the meaning of a story. It is a kind of formalist strategies which helps the reader
understand the images that the author is trying to say in words. Symbolism is widely used in The Story
of An Hour and The Cranes , which use conventional symbols, literary symbols, and even allegory.
The Story of An Hour is written by Kate Chopin. Mrs. Mallard hears of her husband s death from her
husband s friend Richards. At first, she feels depressed, but then she feels free and can have her own
new life after thinking things through. Sadly, her new life is cut short by the abrupt return of Mr.
Mallard. Mrs. Mallard, who has a bad heart, was so ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The couple is symbolized as crane but they commit suicide to end their dreadful life suffering from
their sickness. The author uses the water and hull of car as symbols in the story. the water looked like
metal, still and hard. (Meinke, 259) and The hull of the car gleamed beetle like dull and somehow
sinister in its metallic isolation. (Meinke, 260) shows the symbolization by describing the water and
hull of the car. Both of the descriptions are related to the gun that the couple uses for committing
suicide. They are hard, metallic like, and callous which is just like the gun. These also symbolize the
grim tone in the story. It is stillness because the couple is going to commit suicide. The final symbol in
the story is the direction that the cranes fly to. ...their great wings beating the air and their long slender
necks pointed like arrows toward the sun. (Meinke, 260) After the couple kiss and close the eyes, the
cranes fly toward the sun. This is a symbol of western paradise of ultimate bliss, which means they
kill themselves by shooting the gun to end their lives. Flying toward the sun is a traditional symbol
that says that people will go to paradise after they die. The combination of those symbols in the story
raises the controversy of suicide to the readers. Refering to the story, the couple chooses euthanasia
because they are in pain from sickness. It also raises the question of whether we

The Controversy Of Homosexual Discrimination In Schools
You get a call from your best friends mom at one in the morning. She s frantically explaining the
tragedy that just took place, your best friend is dead. Like your friend, many people from all ages
experience a form of discrimination whether it s because of their size, personality, raise, or even
sexual orientation. People need a way to express themselves without feeling like they don t belong
because of who they are. Your friend is dead because they couldn t come out as being gay without
facing hate from certain people. Yes, there are people in your community who are also gay but your
friend was being bullied at school. This i believe schools should have a stronger support system for
the LGBTQ.
I was young when I began to question my sexuality. All my life I grew up around a supporting family
who told me it was okay to be whoever I wanted whether that was sporty or nerdy, shy or outgoing,
straight or gay. I went to sunday school and had great grades, I even played the piano. But something
started to change my behavior, I felt ashamed for being who I was. I stopped going to sunday school

I wanted my voice to be heard but no one really understood. Sarah felt this way too, she was a friend

The Characteristics Of Language InThe Shining, And William...
Introduction:
Authors in the horror genre often use various writing techniques in order to create the horror
characteristics they wish to include throughout their novels, and therefore I will analyse the techniques
used by Stephen King and William Blatty in two of their most famous novels. The purpose of this
comparative analysis is to discover what language and stylistic features Stephen King in The Shining
and William Blatty in The Exorcist use to create characteristics of the horror genre. I will discover
how both authors use important writing techniques such as foreshadowing, mystery, surprise, fear and
suspense, in order to create a horror theme throughout their novels, and I will compare the similarities
and differences in their writing techniques. In the end I am hoping to come to a conclusion where I
thoroughly understand how both Stephen King and William Blatty both used language and stylistic
features to create the theme of horror in both, The Shining and The Exorcist .
Foreshadowing:
Foreshadowing is used to create an image in the readers head before the event actually occurs so that
the reader can predict what is going to happen. In The Shining by Stephen King, there is constant
foreshadowing. Since the beginning of the book, hints are given to the reader as to what will happen
later on in the novel. A lot of this foreshadowing is shown to the reader in the form of Danny s ability,
the shining . Through his gift, he can often see hints of what will happen in the future. For example, he
has constantly encountered the word REDRUM . At first, he has no clue what it means, but then, once
he is already in the hotel, he figures it out. And then, eyes widening in horror, he saw the word
REDRUM reflecting dimly from the glass dome, now reflected twice. And he saw that it spelled
MURDER. Danny Torrance screamed in wretched terror (343). It s at this moment that the reader also
realises the significance of the word REDRUM , as it becomes clear that the word is actually murder.
It s at this moment that all the foreshadowing leads to a definite meaning. Foreshadowing is very
prominent throughout The Shining . In The Exorcist however there are many moments that
foreshadow upcoming

Next, I will address the advantages of a relational model specific to ACME Global Consulting. Since
Acme Global Consulting is a leader in providing software development solutions to other companies,
they need to have an in depth knowledge of their clients functional and data needs. Therefore, a
relational model can provide great benefits such as: (1). Conceptual simplicity: the model is very
simple and helps to simplify data needs of their clients, (2). Design implementation: the model will
help the company to achieve structural and data independence i.e. any changes if made to structure of
data will not affect accessibility of data, and (3) Ad hoc capability of query implementation: relational
model provides a very easy and flexible way of data implementation and manipulation. In addition, a
relational model helps to organize data in form of tables. A relational model is composed of three main
components: (1), a set of domains and sets that represents data structure, (2). Integrity rules, which
ensures data protection, and (3). Operations that will be carried on data i.e. process of data
manipulation. The experts on relational models say that it is the most widely used and most evolved
method of organizing data Today, all major database management systems assume that you will be
working in some manner with the relational model (Date, 2012, p.

The Comparison Of Kim Jong-Un And Dennis Rodman
Kim Jong un and Dennis Rodman s friendship is an unusual relationship that the ordinary American
doesn t understand. Kim Jong un, Supreme Leader of North Korea and Dennis Rodman, former
National Basketball Association, NBA, player, on the surface, don t seem to have any reason to be
friends. The United States has had a negative opinion of communist North Korea ever since the
Korean War. Even though the Korean War technically ended in a ceasefire, troubles between North
and South Korea, one of the U.S. allies, never stopped (Tharoor). Because of these tensions with
North Korea, most U.S. citizens have grown up hearing North Korea and communism are bad.
However, this didn t seem to influence Dennis Rodman. Even after receiving backlash for his
friendship with Kim Jong un, Rodman has still tried to bridge the gap in his own unique way between
the two countries. His unconventional efforts have not worked, showing that the relationship between
Kim Jong un, and Dennis Rodman, is nothing more than a friendship between two colorful people.
Tensions between the United States and North Korea were caused by the freeing of Korea from Japan,
and later tensions were raised by the Korean War (Kim). Even though the Korean War technically
ended in a ceasefire, problems between North and South Korea never stopped (Tharoor). North
Korean leader Kim Il sung earned the respect of his people and was considered the force that brought
North Korea together, following the attack against

Nobility In The Crucible And The Adventures Of Huckleberry...
Nobility is defined as possessing fine personal qualities, high moral principles and ideals. With
nobility also comes a sense of superiority, but this connection between the two words is sometimes
misunderstood. Some believe that nobility is gained by being superior to someone else. However, true
nobility is obtained by, as stated by Ernest Hemingway, one being superior to his or her old self. Our
class this year has read several books and short stories, but I believe that the two books that shows the
clearest and most powerful depictions of this message are The Crucible and The Adventures of
Huckleberry Finn and the developments of John Proctor and Huck Finn.
John Proctor, one of the main characters in The Crucible is perfect for demonstrating how superiority
to one s old self is the key to being noble. The audience is aware of John Proctor s cheating situation
in the beginning of the play which he tries to fix while also attempting to prove that those accused of
witchcraft are innocent. He shows ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

follow the rules of society like practicing Catholicism and refusing to associate with slaves. However,

character, despite what he was taught by Widow Douglas, Miss Watson, and Tom Sawyer. During the
first few days of his journey, he pulls pranks on Jim, like attempting to trick him into thinking that

Essay about The Reagan Tax Cuts And Foreign Policy
The Reagan Tax Cuts and Foreign Policy
During the 1980 s President Ronald Reagan s (our 40th president from
1981 to 1989) domestic policy of a substantial tax cut led to greatly increased economic prosperity for
our country. During Reagan s administration marked changes were made to the tax code and economic
statistics showed a major change for the better. However, at the same time, the Democrats controlled
the Congress and continued increased spending against Reagan s wishes. The Joint Economic
Committee stated that an across the board tax cut was not new. In the 20 s the
Mellon tax cuts were implemented by Secretary of Treasury Andrew Mellon during the
Administrations of Hoover, Harding, and Coolidge. In ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This act simplified and reduced taxes, but the democrats wanted to claim equal credit for the bill as
well. A stock market crash in 1987 raised questions about the nation s economic health. A new bill to
balance the federal budget became law in 1987, but the huge deficit continued to be a concern to the
government.
Congress passed Reagan s requests for cuts in taxes and in some government programs. Reagan also
won increased funds for defense. By 1982, however, the country was in an recession, which meant
that there was an extended decline in general business activity, typically three consecutive quarters of
falling real gross national product. The economy improved in 1983. But the increased defense
spending and tax cut had led to a record budget deficit. Democrats attacked
Reagan for cutting social welfare programs and called for reduced defense spending and a tax increase
in order to lower the deficit.
Foreign Policy
President Reagan through foreign policy sought to achieve peace through strength. He had learned
how to deal skillfully with Congress and obtain legislation to strengthen our national defense. In 1983,
Reagan sent U.S.
Marines to Lebanon as part of a peacekeeping force. The Marines were recalled in
1984, after some 240 had been killed in a terrorist attack. Reagan also sent U.S. troops to Grenada in
1983, to prevent what the he saw as a Cuban attempt to take over the Caribbean island nation. The
President denounced the left wing

Persuasive Letter For Tap Water In Schools
Dear Members of the Downey Unified School District School Board,
We value and admire your provision of drinking water for all of our scholars at DUSD schools. Thank
you for allowing us to choose among installing drinking fountains that consist of school tap water,
placing water dispensers that use bottled water, and supplying individual water bottles. I recommend
that you install drinking fountains because tap water holds dominant affordability and environmental
responsibility in differentiation to the other selections.
Firstly, I recommend that you supply drinking fountains with tap water because they possess an
affordable characteristic in comparison to the other options. For instance, a twenty four pack of water
bottles costs an average price of three dollars. Once you buy seventy cases, the cost approximates to
two hundred ten dollars. For a cooler filled with bottled water, each gallon of water costs roughly one
dollar. If the school purchases seventy cases, it would cost nearly seventy dollars. These amounts of
water, individually or combined, lack providing the school with enough water for even one day.
However, the requirement for drinking fountains that use tap water is to finance money for the water
bill. Further, Annie Leonard ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I can conclude this because plastic bottles cause environmental difficulties and pollution. In addition,
the water from water coolers would be poured into plastic or paper cups, piling up the trash bins with
waste, and producing just as much pollution as the water bottles. Cups or bottles hold an unnecessary
position with drinking fountains. I can confirm this because Annie Leonard explained the
decomposition situation. She claimed, Eighty percent [of plastic bottles from bottled water] end up in
landfills, ...or...are burned, releasing toxic pollution. If we install drinking fountains, then the campus
pollution levels will

Symbolism In Raskolnikov s Nightmare
He had not an instant more to lose. He pulled the axe out completely, swung it with both arms,
scarcely conscious of himself, and almost without effort, almost mechanically, brought the blunt side
down on her head... Then with all his strength he dealt her another and another blow with the blunt
side, and on the same spot (Dostoyevsky 77). Relating the following passage to previous events in the
book, a symbolic connection can be made between the murder to Raskolnikov s nightmare (55 59).
Whenever Raskolnikov is out on a walk, he thinks of disturbing circumstances, only to come across
something beautiful in his eyes. Horses are generally described to be both majestic and beautiful,
which would apply to Raskolnikov s attraction towards them. Horses are also often used to symbolize
freedom and strength, which is what he vaguely hopes for. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Now, you would think that Raskolnikov would be viewed as the dying mare, due to realizing his need
to be free of debt. However, for this analysis, I believe the mare actually represents Alyona. Alyona
was the old woman who worked as a pawnbroker, but she was extremely untrusting and unliked by the
community (as displayed whenever Raskolnikov was in the bar). During a certain bar visit,
Raskolnikov overhears a conversation that basically brings up murder, as the old woman served no
real purpose to society and would make things better if she were to disappear. Raskolnikov proceeds
to construct a plan of action to kill the old woman with an

My Plan Of Attack At Virgin
Sometimes it feels like you have to be a sociopath in order to win or be promoted. I have to say that I

biggest tool was Laura. Laura was the one who took me under her wing and gave me advice on how to
grow and become the leader I needed to be in order to be a supervisor.
I began to ask all the leaders the same questions in different scenarios so it didn t seem weird that I
asked them all the same questions. The cool part of this was that I was able to collect all the various
perspectives on the same type of scenario and sort of compare notes. I figured out that the managers

She asked me what my goals were and how I planned to accomplish them etc.....She then began to ask
me various questions about how I would feel about becoming a supervisor and what I thought the
other teammates would think. I believed that I answered all of the questions well.
A week later the job position was posted on in the teammate lounge. There were quite a few people
interested in the position. The talk began spreading throughout the hotel. So I did what any good
candidate would do and asked people questions. A lot of questions. This allowed me to really sort out
who the real contenders were and how I could be better. I realized the people who were very forward
and loud about wanting the position lost track of how they were being perceived by their superiors.
Most of them didn t even get selected for the first round of interviews. This means being confident yet
reserved was a huge factor they were looking for.
Two weeks later a huge hole was blown into my plan of attack. Emina my manager who seemed to be
my second closest ally called me as I was walking home one day. She said, Devric, I m going to tell
you something that only a few people know the moment . In my head, I was thinking the best and the
worst. Hurray, Devric we have decided to just give you the supervisor position or unfortunately Devric
we are going to have to let you go. My heart started pounding. Emina says, Devric, They fired Laura.

Analysis Of Nanook Of The North
Nanook of the North (Robert J. Flaherty, 1922) is a silent docudrama that was released to demonstrate
the way that the Inuit people live in day to day life. To a person in the western world in the 1920 s they
would believe that this is how they live, dress and how they survive in day to day situations. In fact,
what Flaherty filmed, was scripted and the Inuit family we follow were not actually family. Flaherty
also decided to have the Inuit people dressed as they would previously in history, where as they were
dressing like western world civilisation in the 1920 s. This could have been due to wanting to make
the Inuit s come across as a new and exotic civilisation, compared to the ordinary people.
In this paper, I will be collating primary sources, released during the time of Nanook of the North
being released to discuss the attitude the people of the western world had on the Inuit s and the
docudrama Nanook of the North. The sources I will be collating will consist of newspaper extracts,
images used to promote the film as well as the book written Flaherty about his expedition to the
Canadian Arctic.
Nanook will undoubtedly be the household talk all this week opens the Evening Telegraph
advertisement for Nanook of the North. Instantly this advertisement gets the reader thinking about
why it could be such a talking point within the home. That is then answered with the line; the wonder
film of modern times . When Nanook of the North was premiered, it was the first

Support for Sydney s economic growth through improved motorways
Private sector involvement to provide public infrastructure benefits by easing the heavily congested
link between the airport and the Sydney CBD
Maximising private investment in infrastructure in NSW
Providing an efficient risk allocation between private sector and government.
The contractor s objectives on the other hand focused on realising the following outcomes for the
project:
Completing the construction ahead of the estimated completion date
Achieving project budget and exceeding profit expectations
Increased safety and environmental management
Minimising community and stakeholder impacts
Operating and maintaining the asset for the whole of the concession period to provide a steady income
stream for the company
Meeting performance requirements over the life of the project.
Both client and contractor worked together to achieve the objectives to their mutual benefit (i.e. tunnel
opened early to motorists and provided early completion bonus to builder).
The O M has been operating for the last fifteen years and has successfully delivered the objective of a
sustained long term income stream without major interruption to the services being provided.

Talk to them, view their web sites, ask questions, get references so you can take a view and get a feel for which one will be most suitable for you and your dog. You want to be comfortable that he is in the best hands when he cannot be in yours. You do not want to send a nervous dog to somewhere which might make his anxiety issues worse so do take your time to choose the best provider you can. • 4. Social Class Educational Structure in Brave New World Social Class Educational Structure in Brave New World Nathan Dominique West Forsyth High School 5/4/2015 Social Class Educational Structure in Brave New World Introduction Social stratification, or dividing people into classes, was and is still prevalent in society in many ways. In every form division acts as an inhibitor for what certain citizens can do, but it helps form a stable class structure as there is little mobility. Namely, stratification is most evident in the various realms of education: elementary, secondary, and post secondary. The opportunities of specific classes to achieve feats in education is often extremely disproportionate (Benson,1989, p. 159) leaving lower classes at the bottom of society. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Brave New World Classes. Alphas, Betas, Gammas, and Epsilons, all of these common group names make up the bulk of the class system in Huxley s Brave New World. Social stratification prevails in this make believe society and is seen as a large contributor to the differing levels of intellectual soundness of the different cast members. Citizens of Brave New World are engineered in order to be either genius or dumb as a nail (Huxley, 1932, p. 25). Huxley (1932, p. 18) described the entire process as a major instrument of social stability for the community. By depriving the lover classes of any intelligent prowess(opportunities) a secure society was forged in the eyes of the Authorities. Differences in Education. In order to make the society even more secure the leaders opened the doors of universities to the best and brightest that were decanted. I found that the top schools, like Eton (Huxley, 1932, p. 148), in the book were only made available to the most formidable thinkers. Such a system confirms my hypothesis that there was a vast difference in just what chances different groups had at getting an education. Simply the fact that these discrepancies exist demonstrates the power of social class in education. Differences in opportunities. Social stratification affected education and many other aspects of society. While the Alphas and Betas were playing obstacle golf the Epsilons and Gammas were busy battling the many ... This amazing feat of engineering is so spectacular that it is the biggest that a commercial aircraft can be! The airbus A380 can be described in many different ways, most people call it spectacular or even just flat out amazing that something this big can even get off the ground. While the industry continues to make improvements to flight, they are also keeping the costs down, so that anyone flying can experience flying in an Airbus, especially if they are traveling abroad. Many would say that the idea of building the Airbus was thought of by a French transport minister named Jean Chamant and a German economics minister, named Karl Schiller in 1969, but in all actuality, the idea was originated in in 1967 by ministers in France, Germany and Britain. They all agreed for the purpose of strengthening European co operation in the field of aviation technology and thereby promoting economic and technological progress in Europe, to take appropriate measures for the joint development and production of an airbus (Early Days, 1967 1969). They knew that if they did not come up with a new concept for air flight, that the Americans would always be the leaders in the aircraft industry. They knew it would take the effort of not just one country, but many that had built different aspects of planes, and were well known for that contribution. • 12. Corporate Branding is Essential for Today s Competative... In this competitive world, nothing is as certain as uncertainty and nothing are as sustained as change for any businesses. Strategy building is not as simple as possible for companies and the ground rules for competition have shifted from predictable markets or stable product range to more dynamic and globalized ways. The traditional perceptions and applications of branding has been fully dominated by a product mindset. But changes in the modern era and huge technological developments laid difficulties in managing realistic product differentiation in the face of duplication and homogenization of products and services. Changes in the attitudes and mindsets of the customers are also making markets more complex and competitive in nature. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Accordingly, Hatch and Schultz conceptualized corporate branding in following ways: (a) alignment between origin and day to day activities of the business (organizational culture); (b) where the organization aspires to go (strategic vision); (c) all nested in perceptions of who the organization is (identity). (Schultz et al. 2005, p. 24) Based in who we are as an organization , a corporate branding focuses on developing the distinctive features of the organization through managerial and organizational processes. These processes endeavor to express who the company is as an organization and demonstrate how it is different compared with its competitors, all the while making this difference relevant and engaging to its stakeholders. With this said, it is clear that corporate branding is influenced by other disciplines like organizational theories, Strategies etc, and considered CB as cross disciplinary in nature. Most of the previous studies are carried by marketing scholars since branding is an extract of marketing discipline, conceptualization of product branding is purely outside in thinking and stakeholders are consumers and customers only. The paper tries to describe the movement towards corporate branding from product branding and can be best quoted as shift from classic branding to corporate branding . • 13. Should Uniforms Wear School Uniforms For many years schools have become more about fashion rather than education. During this time teachers and principals have debated on what solution to come up with. Should Sir John A. Macdonald (SJAM) have uniforms? Some people believe that uniforms take away the right of self expression. Others argue that uniforms keep students focused on studies rather than fashion. Wearing school uniforms should become mandatory because it ensures equality within the school, reduces expenses, and it creates discipline in the school. Uniforms maintain equality within the school. Students should not have to worry about peer pressure when it comes to their clothes. When everyone is dressed the same, concerning about how you look isn t so important. A study in the U.S Department of Education shows that by wearing a school uniform student s sense of security raised 41% and over ž of teachers agreed that uniforms were the reason for that happened. Students feel much more secure in school since they cannot be victims of bullies for being dressed in a certain way. For example, it would be much more difficult for a bully to make fun of how students are dressed especially if they are dressed exactly the same. According to the Department of Education in the U.S students sense of belonging also increased, this is because when students are dressed like their peers it makes them feel more equitable, valuable and included. Academically this is important for students because if students are feeling unhappy and excluded they will not be interested in their studies or even coming to school. Some people might argue that uniforms do not spread equality because it takes away the right of expressing their individuality. While that may be true individuality is what distinguishes us from others, but clothing isn t the only way to do that. You can express yourself through what you do for example sports, music, art, etc. This is beneficial to students because they won t judge others by their looks but by their personality. As for equality, it means equal, which is a key reason to have uniforms because it allows all students to look and feel equal. The joint power of the King s army and the Saxons, on the other hand, used more innovative battle tactics, which made our forces more mobile and agile than our enemies. Our firing technique was more advanced than our enemy, utilizing five ranks pikemen at the back and six ranks gunmen at the front. You can enjoy much of the greatest art created, during that exciting age, today like Michelangelo s David or Botticelli s Birth of Venus. There s also Ghiberti s glorious 3D bronze gates, Fra Angelico s serene beauty of paintings and the Duomo that kicked off the Renaissance. After the fall of ancient Rome, Europe wallowed in centuries of relative darkness. There was little learning, commence, or travel. Then, in about 1400, in Florence, there was a Renaissance. This exciting rebirth of the culture of ancient Greece and Rome swept from Florence to all across Europe. Artists rediscovered the wonder of nature and the human body. Their art expressed the optimism and confidence of the new age. The Western civilization made up for lost centuries with huge gains in science, economics, and art. Florence was the center of it all and for a good reason; it was where capitalism was replacing feudalism and being the middleman of trade between west and east, the city had money and it knew what to do with it. Wealthy merchants and banking families, like the Medici who ruled Florence for generations, commissioned splendid art to show their civic pride. This reminds me of the time Odysseus sacrificed himself to get his men past the sirens. He was told that it was all right to be uninterested in the teacher s content, but he could not run around the room because that would be considered a distraction to the other students. In this sense, Tristan did not interpret ADHD as disability, but rather a natural trait he had. In order to fit his teachers behavioral expectations, he designed his own coping strategies. This included tap drawings, breaking pencils under his desk, or daydreaming. He found that methods such as these either kept his mind occupied or took him out of the dull world he was living in and placed him in his ideal. Although this prevented him from straying from the school s guidelines, Tristan expressed that he had difficulty learning and absorbing instruction in classes. • 30. A Love Story Not a Love Story Oh my gosh, it s Ru Emerson! A girl screamed out. Commotion rippled across the campus as a hoard of girls started gathering around a particular spot. Ru Emerson was quite used to this and casually dismissed the girls. Sorry girls, another day! Ru shouted as he grinned, since many girls were asking him if he was free or had football practice that day. In a split second, the girls dispersed with disappointed looks on their faces, knowing that they could never have a chance with a campus football star. Ru always knew he had dashing good looks, as he was quite proud of his thick, jet black hair, his cloudy grey eyes, and his toned body. On top of all that, he had a great charm. While silently adoring himself, Ru made his way to the Starbucks on campus to treat himself to an iced coffee. As he was strolling along the pathway, he looked up at the clear, blue sky, watching a few birds fly by. On his left, he spotted a few more kooky girls who were crazy for him, so he ducked his head and stared at the patterned brick path beneath his feet, and kept walking. Ru eventually reached the familiar glass door at Starbucks and pushed forward with his head still lowered. Suddenly, he felt something hit his chest and saw a pile of textbooks on his feet. Ru immediately raised his head, only to find a girl with her hands and knees on the ground. Their gaze met each other for a few seconds, then Ru instinctively bent down to help the girl pick up her books. He noticed the faint smell of cigarettes. I m terribly sorry, I didn t mean to do that, Ru said apologetically, I just wasn t watching where I was going. Totally my fault. The girl nodded timidly but was too shocked to say anything and just kept staring at Ru. Here you are, Miss. Lenora. Ru chirped as he handed her stack of textbooks back. Lenora was almost too bewildered to speak. The man in front of her was too beautiful. She was already lost in his captivating grey eyes, his bold, straight eyebrows, and his alluring tinted lips. Loman is a sixty three year old salesman during the late 1940 s. He is the father of two sons, Biff and Happy, and the husband to Linda Loman. During this time period, Americans were still adjusting to the post war era where two generations of American ideas clashed, the traditional and modern American Dream. • 33. Feminist Criticism In The Second Sex By Simone De Beauvoir Simone de Beauvoir is an incredibly influential French philosopher, writer, activist, intellectual, and social theorist. In 1949, she wrote what is perhaps her most noteworthy text, The Second Sex . In the novel, Beauvoir explores the notion of femininity and the history of the relationship between men and women, and makes the ambitious claim that One is not born, but rather becomes, Woman. (283) This bold statement has sparked the interest of many feminist activists and scholars, but for one to truly understand Beauvoir s work, one must ask, what does it mean? Although this statement is ostensibly simple, it holds great meaning and depth. Essentially, it signifies that women are taught to be women, by their mothers and by society, and are not simply born being society s definition of a woman. She exemplifies this on multiple occasions in her novel. In one instance, she writes, It is here that little girls first appear privileged. A second weaning, slower and less brutal than the first one, withdraws the mother s body from the child s embraces; but little by little boys are the ones who are denied kisses and caresses; the little girl continues to be doted upon... (285) Here Beauvoir shows that even from birth, the stereotype that girls are more delicate and fragile than boys is perpetuated by parents treating girls with more affection and delicacy. This is mostly due to his bright French Paintings, but his first paintings in the Netherlands are never thought of as colourful. This is untrue, colour was always an important element in Gogh s entire lifetime of works. Even though the melancholy paintings from Holland and the glowing works from Paris seem completely different they are a result of the same theory and practise. Vincent Van Gogh was mostly self thought and began his career in art by studding nineteenth century how to draw books and copying prints he liked. He felt like he had to master drawing techniques first in order to become a great painter. Van Gogh also had the idea that he had to work with black and white before he could master colour. He focused on form and perspective sketches. When he grew strong enough at drawing he began to start using colour. He became very adventurous and his fearless colour palette developed into one of the most significant features of his later works. Van Gogh produced over 150 watercolour paintings in his short life. Introduction: Authors in the horror genre often use various writing techniques in order to create the horror characteristics they wish to include throughout their novels, and therefore I will analyse the techniques used by Stephen King and William Blatty in two of their most famous novels. The purpose of this comparative analysis is to discover what language and stylistic features Stephen King in The Shining and William Blatty in The Exorcist use to create characteristics of the horror genre. I will discover how both authors use important writing techniques such as foreshadowing, mystery, surprise, fear and suspense, in order to create a horror theme throughout their novels, and I will compare the similarities and differences in their writing techniques. In the end I am hoping to come to a conclusion where I thoroughly understand how both Stephen King and William Blatty both used language and stylistic features to create the theme of horror in both, The Shining and The Exorcist . Foreshadowing: Foreshadowing is used to create an image in the readers head before the event actually occurs so that the reader can predict what is going to happen. In The Shining by Stephen King, there is constant foreshadowing. Since the beginning of the book, hints are given to the reader as to what will happen later on in the novel. A lot of this foreshadowing is shown to the reader in the form of Danny s ability, the shining . Through his gift, he can often see hints of what will happen in the future. For example, he has constantly encountered the word REDRUM . At first, he has no clue what it means, but then, once he is already in the hotel, he figures it out. And then, eyes widening in horror, he saw the word REDRUM reflecting dimly from the glass dome, now reflected twice. And he saw that it spelled MURDER. Danny Torrance screamed in wretched terror (343). It s at this moment that the reader also realises the significance of the word REDRUM , as it becomes clear that the word is actually murder. Kim Jong un, Supreme Leader of North Korea and Dennis Rodman, former National Basketball Association, NBA, player, on the surface, don t seem to have any reason to be friends. The United States has had a negative opinion of communist North Korea ever since the Korean War. With nobility also comes a sense of superiority, but this connection between the two words is sometimes misunderstood. Some believe that nobility is gained by being superior to someone else. However, true nobility is obtained by, as stated by Ernest Hemingway, one being superior to his or her old self. Our class this year has read several books and short stories, but I believe that the two books that shows the clearest and most powerful depictions of this message are The Crucible and The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn and the developments of John Proctor and Huck Finn. John Proctor, one of the main characters in The Crucible is perfect for demonstrating how superiority to one s old self is the key to being noble. I recommend that you install drinking fountains because tap water holds dominant affordability and environmental responsibility in differentiation to the other selections. During a certain bar visit, Raskolnikov overhears a conversation that basically brings up murder, as the old woman served no real purpose to society and would make things better if she were to disappear. • 47. My Plan Of Attack At Virgin Sometimes it feels like you have to be a sociopath in order to win or be promoted. I have to say that I really did feel like I was constantly juggling the way I was perceived at all times and I still am. My biggest tool was Laura. Laura was the one who took me under her wing and gave me advice on how to grow and become the leader I needed to be in order to be a supervisor. I began to ask all the leaders the same questions in different scenarios so it didn t seem weird that I asked them all the same questions. The cool part of this was that I was able to collect all the various perspectives on the same type of scenario and sort of compare notes. I figured out that the managers who are salary are constantly feeling overworked and need a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I believed that I answered all of the questions well. A week later the job position was posted on in the teammate lounge. There were quite a few people interested in the position. The talk began spreading throughout the hotel. So I did what any good candidate would do and asked people questions. A lot of questions. This allowed me to really sort out who the real contenders were and how I could be better. I realized the people who were very forward and loud about wanting the position lost track of how they were being perceived by their superiors. Most of them didn t even get selected for the first round of interviews. This means being confident yet reserved was a huge factor they were looking for. Two weeks later a huge hole was blown into my plan of attack. Emina my manager who seemed to be my second closest ally called me as I was walking home one day. She said, Devric, I m going to tell you something that only a few people know the moment . In my head, I was thinking the best and the worst. Hurray, Devric we have decided to just give you the supervisor position or unfortunately Devric we are going to have to let you go. My heart started pounding. Emina says, Devric, They fired Laura. My thoughts were oh fuck my ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 48. Analysis Of Nanook Of The North Nanook of the North (Robert J. Flaherty, 1922) is a silent docudrama that was released to demonstrate the way that the Inuit people live in day to day life. To a person in the western world in the 1920 s they would believe that this is how they live, dress and how they survive in day to day situations. In fact, what Flaherty filmed, was scripted and the Inuit family we follow were not actually family. Flaherty also decided to have the Inuit people dressed as they would previously in history, where as they were dressing like western world civilisation in the 1920 s. This could have been due to wanting to make the Inuit s come across as a new and exotic civilisation, compared to the ordinary people. In this paper, I will be collating primary sources, released during the time of Nanook of the North being released to discuss the attitude the people of the western world had on the Inuit s and the docudrama Nanook of the North.
