In the first half of the 19th century, Christmas was a very different kind of holiday than it is today.
People did not have a set way of celebrating. Christmas was not even an official holiday yet.
So, communities around the country honored the day in different ways. Some observed Christmas as
an important Christian religious day, honoring the birth of Jesus. Others celebrated the day with
parties, music, drinking and eating. And, some communities did not celebrate the day at all.
But, it was during the early 1800s that Americans began to reinvent the holiday. They started

The Greeks music was probably the most culturally influential aspect out of all the things the Greeks
practiced. Their music also tied in other aspects of their culture which they loved to display in their
songs, and through their art. A great example of this is THE METER OF THE ILIAD AND THE

a sinner, but he did the unthinkable at the time, He [Schindler] was no saint. And yet, the same man
would prove to have depths of courage and humanity rare at any time even rarer during the time in

Schindler proved that love and kindness still existed by rescuing over 1,000 Jewish residents of
