2. Jap An Electronic Wonderland
The Akihabara district of Tokyo, Japan is an electronic wonderland with endless sights to see and a
history that doesn t seem to fit its light hearted appearance. Once a post war black market,
Akihabara is now the center of all things relating to anime, manga, and videogames ( Akihabara ).
Traveling to this unique location would be an experience that would not be forgotten. Akihabarahas
always been an important location in Japan, even during the Edo period. It was a crossroad that
was often traveled by commoner and nobility alike due to being an outlet to two of Japan s Great
Highways at the time ( Akihabara ). Many daimyo (great lords who were vassals of the Shogun)
traveled through this crossroad on their way to the capital.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Poor university students would search the markets for the best price on radio parts and then use
said parts to create a radio to resell (DrSenbei). However, the black market craze did not last too
long because open air markets were banned in 1949 to stop the unregulated trades. Stall owners
fought back by rallying with the Vendors Union at government buildings. The government s
response was to allot space for the merchants on the station grounds. Many merchants went around
this by building their own stores, some of which were seven stories tall. They used these stores to
capitalize the post war economy through the sale of household electronics (DrSenbei). The next
generation had unlimited luxuries because of their fathers large salaries. Their time was occupied
with any new gadget that came out, and they sparked the beginning of the otaku (diehard fan)
revolution that has now taken over Akihabara.
With the creation of computers and the internet, the building blocks for a new Akihabara were set
in place. Computer shops sprang up all throughout the district and the population began to shift
from full families to young men looking to set up shop. Personal Computers were being sold more
often than household electronics by 1994. This is what truly changed the future of the Akihabara
district (DrSenbei). A few doujinshi (a fan made manga) shops began to pop up in the district, most
having been run by employees at computer

In Death of a Salesman, by Arthur Miller, a man named Willy Loman struggles with the
changing American dynamic and his impending mental deterioration. Loman is a sixty three year
old salesman during the late 1940 s. He is the father of two sons, Biff and Happy, and the
husband to Linda Loman. During this time period, Americans were still adjusting to the post war
era where two generations of American ideas clashed, the traditional and modern American
Dream. The old, traditional dream included working one s way up to success through popularity
and wealth. The new American Dream does not focus on jobs such as a salesman but sees low
skill jobs, like a carpenter, as successful and making one accomplished in life. Willy Loman s

The two characters in the play that were wrong about why Willy failed are his wife, Linda
Loman, and his brother in law, Charley. Charley believed Willy was a real salesman, one who
knew that if you can not sell you can not succeed. He saw Loman falling apart and figured it was
due to the new American generation. If it was not for the changing times, Willy would not be
confused and would have been able to find, and achieve, his American Dream for both himself
and his family. The article, The Relationship between Willy and Linda , explains Loman and his
wife s relationship. Linda is completely devoted to her husband, yet Willy treats her with little
respect. Loman often cut her off or spoke down to his wife when she would try to help a
situation. When Biff talks about seeing his old boss for a job, Linda started to say, Oliver always
thought the highest of him . . . (Miller 65) until Willy cut in, Will you let me talk? (Miller 65).
Even with the disrespect to Linda, she decides to blame everyone else for her husband s failures and

fulfilling an American Dream. Anytime Willy wants to evaluate himself honestly, Linda just tells
lies to release his tension and increase his incorrect views (www.eng.fju.edu.tw.com). Linda gets

6. What Are The Advantages And Disadvantages Of Drop Shipping
Drop shipping is a retail satisfaction strategy where a store doesn t keep the items it offers in stock.
Rather, when a store offers an item, it buys the thing from an outsider and has it transported
straightforwardly to the client. Thus, the dealer never sees or handles the item.
The greatest contrast in the middle of drop shipping and the standard retail model is that the
offering dealer doesn t stock or own stock. Rather, the vendor buys stock as required from an
outsider typically a wholesaler or producer to satisfy orders.
This one of a kind model has various advantages and downsides:

We never know if the person will use the gun for protection or harm. Just like I said, even with the
background check, a person can buy a gunand give it to another person, so there is a flaw in the
system right there. On the other hand, I believe that enforcing this thumb printing is going to
reduce the amount of homicides because it creates extra work for the murderer to do, and some

Maggots have a huge advantage over boilies and the like they move!! That little bit of movement
seems to inspire the carp into having a go. You can simply hook them onto a hook as you d do
with any bait or as I do you can thread them onto a piece of fine line and hair rig them on. This
keeps them very lively and allows you to have anything from six to sixty maggots at once. Tie the
line to the hook and away you go. If you have water filled of nuisance fish you may need to
regularly recast. I tend to fish a bunch of live maggots over sine scalding dead maggots and it
works a treat. Don t be tempted to put maggots in your mouth to warm them up before use a hook
bait. Firstly it s a fail habit and secondly the shock of the maggots going from the warm mouth to a
cold lake will stop their movement full stop.... Don t fall for that old wives tail.
Sweet corn it s very visual, has great attraction qualities and carp love it in cold. It s much better

While children with Autism exhibit difficulties empathizing with others, and they pay less attention

provides time in the day for this emotional growth in students with Autism and EBDB. Play can
help young children organize and manage their feelings, and for children who do not verbal express
themselves, such as children with Autism, play can be used to allow them to express their feelings,
conflicts, and concerns. Through social interactions with typical peers, students with EBDB and
Autism practice emotional regulation, as well as emotional understanding. Both of these important
skills are used throughout the child s life as they grow, and for children with EBDB and Autism,
additional support and practice is needed in order for mastery. Alternative Philosophies of

The tort of negligence is the most important area of modern tort. It is the main tort of concern to
business ventures (O Toole, 2014). Its major aim is to compensate the claimant. It is a breach of a
duty that defendant owes to the plaintiff, resulting in damage to the claimant. It is not related to a
particular act but with a way of acting and is thus harder to define. The basic elements of the tort of
negligence are a legal duty on part of the defendant towards the claimant to exercise care as falls
within the scope of a duty, breach of that duty, and consequential foreseeable damage to the
claimant that can be attributed to the defendant s conduct. Till the nineteenth century, liability in

In the case of Home Office v Dorset Yacht Co (1970) Lord Reid appreciated the neighborhood
test and suggested in his Dicta to take it a step forward. This view was subsequently endorsed in
Anns v Merton London Borough Council (1978) where Lord Wilberforce proposed a two stage
approach. The large expansions in the areas of tort took place after the formulation of this test.
This criterion altered the way in which the neighborhood test was used. Previously the courts
had to used it to justify new areas of liability if there were policy reasons for excluding it. In
other words, policy was now to operate as a long stop. The general principle established in Anns
came under heavy criticism both from the judiciary and the academics. The first major criticism
can be fund in the case of Governors of the Peabody Donation Fund v Sir Lindsay Parkinson and

definitive character. A more fundamental assault was launched on the test in the case of Yuen
Kun Yeu v Attorney General of Hong Kong (1988), in which it was held, that for the future it
should be recognized that the two staged test was not to be regarded as in all circumstances a

Yonathan D Nieto Villegas
Mr. Fons
English 2B
May 19, 2017
The Right to Life or Choice The decision to end the life of someone without their own consent has
caused great disruption among Americans. Before the civil rights movement, Americans idealized
the idea that abortion was ultimately prohibited due to the fact that religion predominated the
beliefs of the people. Now in a rapid changing liberal society, people are questioning if prohibiting a
woman from aborting is denying her inalienable right of freedom as listed under the First
Amendment. The right to abortion should be left in the hands of a woman s personal decision rather
than being obligated to live with the results of something she never wanted.

The interpretation of this verse gives the proof that life begins even before the site of conception.
Therefore, the religions use this claim to enforce the fact that an abortion on whatever

central idea that the killing of a organism at any given time during the pregnancy is unethical and

religion and science. On the other hand, there are people who suggest that the idea to be obligated

To add on, Plato s cave is seen in many forms of depictions. Individuals have given many

Information Security Awareness Among Privileged Users of a Company
Information is the backbone of every organization and the need to aptly manage and control the
security of information is necessary for its sustainability (Kerry Lynn Rossouw, 2004). Few
employees have elevated rights on organization provided work PCs, which allow them to install or

dealing with IT related problems for users. Especially with the users who have no prior

22. Assessment Of The Residents Of Cliff Terrace
The aim of this dissertation is to assess whether residents of Cliff Terrace, Treforest are reassured
by neighbourhood policing in their community. This aim will be achieved by carrying out primary
research in relation to feelings of reassurance amongst the residents. Evidence collated by Tuffin et
al in 2006 suggests that certain acts when carried out by the policecan significantly reduce fear of
crimeand increase levels of reassurance amongst the public. This evidence will be applied to the
residents of Cliff Terrace to examine its effectiveness. In theory those who have witnessed, or
experienced evidence of reassurance policing, for instance high visibility policing or a problem
solving approach from the police etc. should have higher levels of reassurance than those who have
not experienced or witnessed these acts (Tuffin et al, 2006). In order to meet this objective one must
explore the relevant themes and literature surrounding neighbourhood policing and reassurance
policing.
This section will attempt to review literature on a recent policing strategy neighbourhood
policing (NP), with specific reference to reassurance policing (RP). The first element will focus
on community policing (CP) which is regarded as the predecessor to NP; this section will explain
the history of CP and its transition from the USA to the UK. The review will then move on to

together with Clara, his wife, they established the very first Pilates studio in New York during the
1920s.
For the following decades, Joe devoted himself to training other people in his methods routines,
developing exercises, and use of apparatus. He also expressed his concepts in writing. He often
considered himself as the ideal test for the rationality of his methods of exercise (Pilates, 2012).

24. Biography of Ernest Hemingway Essay
Biography of Ernest Hemingway
Certainly there is no hunting like the hunting of man and those who have hunted armed men long
enough and liked it, never really care for anything else thereafter. You will meet them doing various
things with resolve, but their interest rarely holds because after the other thing ordinary life is as
flat as the taste of wine when the taste buds have been burned off your tongue. ( On the Blue Water
in Esquire, April 1936)
A legendary novelist, short story writer and essayist Ernest Miller Hemingway was born on July 21,
1899, in the village of Oak Park, Illinois, close to the prairies and woods west of Chicago. His
mother Grace Hall had an operatic career before marrying Dr. Clarence Edmonds ... Show more

After Hemingway s depression he was sent to the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. There he
received electroshock therapy that impaired his memory and stripped from him the concentration
to write. Hemingway also lost the ability to do other things he so loved like fish and hunt. So
perhaps he killed himself because Ernest Hemingway could no longer be Ernest Hemingway.
2. Hemingway s works
Ernest Hemingway started his career as a writer in a newspaper office in Kansas City at the age
of seventeen. Here he learned to get to the heart of a story with direct, simple sentences. After the
United States entered the First World War, he joined a volunteer ambulance unit in the Italian
army. Here he was wounded near the Italian/Austrian front. Hospitalized, he fell in love with his
nurse, who later called off their relationship. After his return to the United States, he became a
reporter for Canadian and American newspapers and was soon sent back to Europe to cover such
events as the Greek Revolution. During the twenties, Hemingway became a member of the group
of expatriate Americans in Paris, which he described in his first important work The Sun Also
Rises (1926). After the World War I, Hemingway lived in Chicago. There, he met Sherwood
Andersen and married Hadley Richardson in 1921. On Andersen s advice, the

25. Fight for New Commander
Why would someone choose a Russian kid to be the head of the navy junior reserve officers
training corps? This thought kept creeping into my mind before I came here. It was an awards
ceremony, where new commander was going to be named. Battalion commander is a position of
outmost importance in the unit. He is responsible for the entire battaliontwo companies, four
departments, seven teams, and one hundred fifty people overall. It is definitely a job that requires
great trust from your peers and senior naval science instructor. Unfortunately trust is something I
felt lack of, my nationality was taking it s toll. Because I had been ridiculed since freshman year
due to my nationality, I wasn t certain that I have proved to everyone, that I could be trusted and
deserved this spot. Nevertheless, standing on the stageafter hearing my name announced as the
new battalion commander. I was hearing people applauding but I couldn t see their faces.
Spotlights from the ceiling are directed right into my face, temporarily blinding me. At that
time, I was thinking about my way to the stage. My mind was filled with flashbacks from my
past. When I just came to the unit, people ignored me. My first year was probably the toughest
one; I was barely speaking English and I didn t know anyone. Whenever I was attempting to
become friends with people, I often was facing prejudices that I was unable to overcome without
any friends and support, all I had was a dream: a dream to prove to

26. The Social Problem That I Chose For My Final Paper Is Poverty
Daniel DeGroat
Social Issue Paper
Intro to Sociology
9 December 2015
Poverty in America
The social problem that I chose for my final paper is Poverty in America. Poverty is the general
scarcity, dearth, or the state of one who lacks a certain amount of material possessions or money.
Since the early 1800s, industrialization and immigration has brought poverty of a new kind and on a
new scale to American cities. I have chosen the topic of poverty because it is apart of my
everyday life and world. Being a city kid from New York, I see homeless and poverty filled
streets to the extreme. It has now become a normal lifestyle for millions of people to withstand.
Seeing how millions of people are constantly on the streets with a lack luster of money has
connected me with these people on a strong level. Poverty in the United States is widespread
through out all 50 states. The poverty rate of the United States as of 2014 has risen to 15%. The
state with the smallest unemployment rate is North Dakota with only 2.8%. The state with the
largest was Nevada 7.8%. Approximately, 49.7 million people are living in poverty, which makes
every one in six Americans poor. Poverty in America is a lot more common than we acknowledge;
nearly half of the people in the U.S. who are poor either do not realize that they are poor or do not
label or identify their self as poor or lower class. Isabel V. Sawhill wrote an article in 2008 titled

27. Essay On What Did Jackson Do For The Common Man
Presidents like Jackson represent a long line of politicians asserting their policies benefit the
average american. Were the interests of the common man truly represented under Jackson? Why
or why not? Include examples. What did Jackson do for the common man? Jackson s journey
prior to becoming president, and during the time served by President Adams, included him
becoming favorable to the new members elected to congress in 1826, as well as the Vice
President Calhoun and as well as the Albany Regency in New York and two editors who worked in
the west to mobilize the opposition of Henry Clay and his American System which included and
advocated government encouragement of protective tariffs and federally funded improvements.
Jackson focused on tariffs as the topic was the main concern of the Northerners with the exception
of the southerners. Jackson focused on obtaining votes from the southerners who did not have any
experience with tariffs. Although he was for higher tariffs he explained to them that he did not
oppose the tariffs as long as they were judicial.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

There are different context in which labeling has specifically been used in the readings; however,
there is an overarching theme in that the labels serve to undermine and to subjugate Latinos, Asian
Americans and African Americans. The readings primarily focused on the criminalization and the
perceived deviance of Latinos and Latino youth.
In the book Punished by Victor Rios, he presents the argument that the consistent labeling by every
state run institution that cast young Latinos as criminals or cast at risk youth expected to commit
crimes is symptomatic of the social structures that creature the criminalization process of young
Latinos. Non state institutions as well as parents, who often seek help from them, are often advised

5) and has actually made concessions that play into the labeling of community members as good
immigrant and bad immigrant. The labels of good and bad immigrant only helps to further
normalize the criminalization and dehumanization of people based on their migrant status. The
logical consequence of adopting a good immigrant and a bad immigrant binary is agreement that the
undocumented are criminals and thus the natural and race neutral solution must be to punish and
deport the undocumented for their reputed transgression not to challenge the underlying structural
reason people migrate. (Gonzales, p. 151) This leads to the fragmentation of the migrant population
and often leads to the splitting of families. The short term victories in immigration reform with the
onset of bills such as DACA (Deferred Action for Children Act) playing on the depiction of parents
forcing illegal migration on their children and the institutional recognition of it not being the child s
fault that their parent were criminals continues to deny the larger societal structures that continue to
only perpetuate deferred consequence under the guise of progress.
In Hector Tobar s book The Barbarian Nurseries, the labeling that occurs is that of undocumented
immigrant as criminal. The book, while fiction, illustrates how the concept of the good immigrant
and the bad immigrant come into play in societal structures. Because of white privilege and

Introduction Since the beginning of International Relations and foreign policy, especially in the
United States, environmental issues have not been its top priority. this problem has gained much
momentum sense the environmental movements of the sixties and the passing of landmark
pieces of policy. From domestic policy decisions of the Clean Air and Water Acts to the
international ban on CFC s, environmental policy has showed a degree of promise and
precedence. Many critics of past and current mitigation efforts have pointed out that our current
efforts are much too slow and International Protocols and not lived up to their projections. In
order for climate policy to be successful it must appertain to three distinct criteria; It must be
adopted broadly, have the ability to stay in place indefinitely, and it needs to have incentives to
reduce emissions that make it beneficial for firms and the public sector to invest (McKibbin 2006,
9). According to some it will be motivation, not feasibility as to the deciding factor of whether or
not we are successful in mitigating and adapting to climate change(Jamieson 2013, 466).

The Russo Japanese war began on February 8th, 1904 when the Japanese launched a surprise attack

Roosevelt. The war had a substantial effect on both of its participants, the Russians and the
Japanese, but first this essay will talk about the events leading up to it, such as the Russian
encroachment. In 1898 the Chinese and Russians finally negotiated a convention after three months
by which china would lease to Russia Port Arthur in Talianwan, a tremendously strategic point
which would be Russia s sole warm water port on the coast of the pacific, and its surrounding
waters. Immediately after their agreement, Russia took no time in occupying the Port. A year later,
Russia began to build the southern Manchurian railroad to further consolidate their position at Port
Arthur. The building of the railroad led to be one of the causes of the Boxer rebellion. Because of
the Boxer rebellion, the uprising of a secret organization in china against the spread of western and

Braunau Austria is a small town located approximately 65 miles east of Munich and nearly 30
miles north of Salzburg. When Hitler was a small child, he was baptized as a Catholic. Hitler didn t
do well in school; he wanted to be an artist. His father Alois Hitler, didn t approve of his life plans,
he wanted his son to be an officer and fight for Germany. Hitler had a hatred for his father. He was
deeply and emotionally attached to his hard working mother. On Saturday, January 3, 1903,
Alois Hitler collapsed and died from lung hemorrhage. Hitler was only 13 years old, when his
father passed away. After Hitler s father passed away, Hitler continued to do poorly in school.

36. Symbolism And Symbolism In The Great Gatsby
Throughout this novel we see many symbolic meanings, the author Scott. Fitzgerald intended it
this way in order to send a message to the audience. We see many colors showing symbolism some
of this colors are green, yellow, white, red, and gold. I am going to talk about the color green and
how the author showed its impact and symbolism throughout this novel. These coloroften can be
associated with people from the novel, for example the greencan be associated with Gatsby, the red
can be associated with Myrtle, yellow and white can be associated with Daisy, and blue can be
associated with T.J. Eckleburg. This symbolic colors give great importance to the novel and it
entertains the reader with this symbolic meanings throughout the novel. Green is the color of
spring, which symbolizes confidence, vitality and hope. In the Great Gatsby, the color green is
closely associated with the green light at the end of Daisy s dock. It symbolizes Gatsby s deep
love to Daisy and his American Dream. But as the green light is always feeble and far away, it
also indicates the disillusionment of his dream. In other words, the green light symbolizes hope.
It symbolizes hope because, Gatsby sees this light as the hope of him and Daisy being together
at one point. It shows Gatsby s love towards her because you can see how he really feels about
her when he tries to grab the light by stretching his arm as far as he can. This shows how Gatsby
desperately tries to get Daisy s heart but her heart is too far away from him. This light also
signifies how close he is to Daisy, he think he can just grab her of how close he think he is to
her, but this can also be a disillusionment to his dreams because the light is always distant and far
from him and he will never grab it just like he could never have Daisy. Throughout this novel we
can see Gatsby s affection towards this light, this light is very important and we see it being
reference back and forth throughout the whole book. This color made the novel more vivid, more
colorful, more dreamlike, more visionary and more profound. It helps the reader connect with the
book. You can relate to Gatsby s feeling when he sees the light and he tries to grab it and it makes

NONVERBAL COMMUNICATION
INTRODUCTION
On September 12, 2008, I observed two people; Person A and Person B. The observation took
place at Applebee s, a local restaurant, beginning at 7:21 p.m. and ending observation at 8:06 p.m.
I was serving their table for the evening, enabling myself to observe them closely. The restaurant
had died down from the dinner rush, leaving them one of three tables in the smoking section,
normally filled with eight. Along with the outside light fading, the lighting indoors was dim,
making the dining experience feel more quiet and intimate. The background noise was filled with a
light roar of other group s conversations, and a jazz station played quietly from the speakers
overhead.

I could observe many times of laughter, and took note of no negative expressions.
Along the lines of laughter, another observation I observed was Person A s tone. I was able to
observe this closely walking by their table several times throughout the night. Person A had a
deep, gentle voice that stayed at a fairly steady low volume throughout dinner. He spoke fairly
fast, but I think he was simply excited to be with Person B; trying to fit in as much as he could.
His laughter was low and hearty, but stayed near the volume he spoke. He also used a lot of hand
gestures. His stories were filled with help from his hands and arms. He was quite animated and
looked excited to be talking. At one point it looked as if he was trying to describe a house using
hand gestures.
One last nonverbal observation I will mention is that of Person A s posture. He generally sat
hunched over the table, rarely sitting up straight. Combined with the other nonverbal observations,
this posture suggests he wanted to be as near to Person B as possible.
OBSERVATION OF PERSON B
Person B was a female around the age of 22. She was about 5 ВЅ feet tall with a slender build and
shoulder length blonde hair. The first nonverbal observation I made about Person B was the way
she dressed. She had a knee length black skirt paired with a light blue sweater. This outfit

38. Motives For Terrorism Essay
Terrorism is a type of violence used tactically in peace, conflict, and war. The threat of terrorism is
ever present, and an attack is likely to occur when least expected. In trying to find out what factors
can cause an individual to choose terrorism, it is first necessary to define what terrorism is. The
Department of Defense defines terrorismas the calculated use of violence or threat of violence to
inculcate fear; intended to coerce or to intimidate governments or societies in the pursuit of goals
that are generally political, religious, or ideological. Per the definition, the terrorists are not giving
into a whim of random acts, but these individuals are using calculated moves in order to achieve
the purpose of the group. Simply... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This type of motivation is found to be a faith of the terrorist. The individual does not consider the
actions taken to achieve the agenda wrong and may tend to project antisocial motivations onto
others, creating a polarized we versus they outlook.(3) These members attribute only evil motives to
anyone outside the group. The resulting clarity of purpose appeals to those who crave violence to
relieve their constant anger.
The other common characteristic of the psychologically motivated terrorist is the pronounced need
to belong to a group. With some terrorists, group acceptance is a stronger motivator than the stated
political objectives of the organization. Such individuals define their social status by group
acceptance.
More often than not the groups goal may be nearly impossible to achieve. A group that achieves
its stated purpose is no longer needed; thus, success threatens the psychological well being of its
members. When a terrorist group approaches a stated goal, there may be an inclination to redefine
it. The group may reject the achievement as false or inadequate or the result of the duplicity of
them . When a solution is close to being reached, objectives change.
One effective psychological defense against success is to define goals so broadly that they are
impossible to achieve. Even if the world proclaims the success of a political movement, the

Gustav Holst, born in Cheltenham in September 1847, is still today considered to be one of the
greatest music composers of all time. He was not very fond of music when he was younger, but he
enjoyed the piano. He was sent to Cheltenham Grammar School and forced to take long music

Impressed at his good ear for music, his father borrowed some money to send him to the Royal

In 1912, his performance of The Cloud Messenger was a hit, so he went to Spain for a holiday to

In 1923, Holst was conducting a rehearsal at University College, when he slipped and fell off the

effects.
Later on, after a trip to America, Holst received great congratulations for his performance of the

2015). In the early 2000s food stamps began moving to Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) cards,
which were later mandated by the Farm Security and Rural Investment Act of 2002 (2002 Farm
Bill). The reauthorization of SNAP as part of the 2002 Farm Bill and the Food, Conservation, and
Energy Act of 2008 (2008 Farm Bill) created many of the eligibility criteria today (Farm Security
and Rural Investment Act of 2002; Food, Conservation, and Energy Act of 2008; Young, 2008).

44. Undergrad Personal Statement
When I entered college, I had little idea of what I wanted to study. Eventually, I found two
majors that have been most fulfilling, Russian and International Studies. These majors have
also led me to areas of public service I never before considered. While I knew about positions in
the Defense Department and in intelligence, I quickly learned that my foreign language abilities
were valuable outside these capacities. Although I have an interest in working internationally, I
recognize there are many ways to serve meaningfully in the United States. As an undergrad, I
worked part time in warehouse off campus. While I value my education and all of the
opportunities it has provided me, this was one of the most educational experiences I have had.
Working with men who were supporting families on a meager wage was truly eye opening to me
and made me question many of my preconceived notions. One man s well water quality was so
poor that he brought empty milk jugs to fill and take home to his family. Other coworkers
recounted their experiences as children, living in poor neighborhoods and on government
assistance. These accounts illustrated how much work there is to be done in the United States and
how government programs do not always reach those who need... Show more content on

46. Analysis Of Literary Analysis In Ulysses By Lord Alfred...
Literature and poetry in particular have the potential to make profound impressions on their
readers. In the poem Ulysses by Lord Alfred Tennyson, the speaker Ulysses argues for his
mariners to come back out to sea. Karen Prior s article How Reading Makes Us More Human
argues how reading makes one more human. On the other hand, Tennyson makes his argument
through Ulysses, as he talks to his mariners while Prior makes her argument to teachers of higher
of education. While Tennyson and Prior both use rhetorical situations to persuade their audiences,
Prior connects to her audience better by citing compelling and exhaustive research, eliciting
sympathy from her audience through her narrative voice, and establishing her credibility by
using personal examples and research. Prior s uses captivating evidence in her article in order to
persuade the audience that reading makes one more human. For example, Prior takes research
from psychologists from York University and University of Toronto which states [people] who
read fiction appear to be better able to understand other people, empathize with them and view the
world from their perspective (para. 2). With the use of notable research, the reader starts to
question if reading does make one more human. Prior then goes on to use research done by the
director of the Center for Reading and Language Research. The director Maryanne Wolf states, the
fragility of the brain s ability to read with the kind of sustained attention that

47. Conflict Between Xerxes And Herodotus
Amidst the diversity of ideas and concepts that Herodotus develops throughout his History, the
notion that highly different political structures do exist and may eventually clash is a prominent
one. In accord with Herodotus manner of incidentally placing the essential cores of his arguments
and observations in microcosmic episodes scattered across the body of his narrative, the exchange
between Xerxes and Demaratus in passages 101 105 of Book 7 serves as a gateway into exploring
and discussing the ways in which the Greeksand the Persians differ, both politically and socially.
Through the contrast between the Greeks and the Persians that the conversation depicts, Herodotus
advances his narrative wide delineation of the disparity between the... Show more content on

Firstly, the dialogue is part of a series of implicit and explicit references in the History to the
radically different ways of living and governance that are exhibited by different societies.
Throughout their conversation, Xerxes and Demaratus juxtaposing assertions fuel Herodotus
ongoing discussion of what sets the Greeks and the Persians apart. This contrast, in turn, reveals the
disparity between those governed by the rule of law and those governed by an autocratic emperor.
In the History the Persian monarchy, as the prime example of unity under a centralized authority
figure, is consistently portrayed as resting on principles of fear, subservient conformity, and blind
loyalty. An example of this can be seen when Herodotus notes: All the rest of the Persians held their
tongues and did not venture to declare a judgment opposite to that which was in discussion (7.10).
This oft mentioned inability of the Persians to freely express their opinions and thoughts without
fear of punishment goes into suggesting the foundations of the Persian autocracy. The compulsion
of lash that Xerxes proudly favors during the dialogue becomes a potent symbol of monarchy in
History: ...and many of the barbarians fell; for behind their regiments their captains with whips in
their hands flogged on every man of them, pressing them

48. Machiavelli Ecclesiastical Principalities
Word count: 1,206 (with citations) The Prince is Machiavelli s guide for ruling and conquering
states. Machiavelli elaborates on various ways to acquire principalities and provides the reader
with a straightforward guide on how to successfully conquer and maintain control over states.
Machiavelli analyses the strengths and flaws of certain paths to conquest, how to maintain a hold
on power and the importance of strong arms. Machiavelli sees humans as easily persuaded and
simple minded. He believes that all people want to be controlled and guided and those who control
do so because their intellect is much greater than the average person. In chapter eleven,
Ecclesiastical Principalities, Machiavelli elaborates on the strength and weaknesses... Show more

Imitating the work of a past ruler is also important because If his own virtue does not reach that
far, at least he will be in the odor of it . Pope Jullius demonstrates this perfectly by continuing
through Alexander VI footsteps and finding new ways to make the church great by means of
money and arms. Fear is another strength that sustains Ecclesiastical Principalities. Humans
believe in God s practices because they fear what would happen if they seized to believe. Moses
invokes fear by brutally killing all who lost faith in him. Those who Moses spared remain
thankful that they were not harmed while those who were harmed stay weak and too scared to
rebel. Machiavelli insinuates that all humans want to be controlled and guided. When not under
direct guidance, humans are fearful of their life outside the Ecclesiastical Principality. Fear was
also used to maintain dominance by Remirro. He placed a mangled corpse in the middle of town
square which left the people astounded. In doing so, people fear the Prince s brutality and
therefore, obey him. This is seen in all types of principalities. Overall, Machiavelli s first
impression of Ecclesiastical Principalities is that they differ from the others because

49. Coronary Atherosclerosis Case Study
Introduction
According to the CDC, cardiovascular disease claims 614,348 lives in 2014 making it the
leading cause of death in the United States, accounting for 46.9% of all deaths in 2014. This
percentage is estimated to increase threefold by the end of 2016 (Heron, 2016). This is a
significant issue, mainly because, for the most part this is a preventable ailment. If not closely
control, this can quickly become an epidemic as the overall death rate increase each year. To fully
understand this disease, we need to first look at the root cause, coronary artery disease.
Coronary artery disease is a disorder affecting the blood vessels of the heart, generally in the form
of atherosclerosis. Atherosclerosis literally means fatty harden mush . This is formed from the ...

This exertion increases the production of catecholamines and inflammatory mediators that causes
myocyte hypertrophy and loss of contractility function in the area of the heart distant from the
infarction (p. 606) creating structural and functional changes in the heart. If ischemic circumstances
are not rectified within 20 minutes, then irreversible cell death occurs, thus making early
intervention imminent.
Therefore, an awareness of early warning signs is important. The first symptom of a myocardial
infarction is severe and prolonged chest pain that may radiate up into the neck and/or jaw as well
as down the shoulders, back or left arm. Other symptoms include nausea and vomiting, weakness,
severe fatigue and dyspnea. It is important to note that diabetic patients and the elderly may have no
pain, thereby having a silent infarction (p.607). Another important group to take note of are women
as they often have atypical signs of a myocardial infarction and as such are often under noticed and
undiagnosed.

50. The Importance Of Cell Phones In Society
Since the late 1990s, cell phones have gone from being just a luxury to a necessity in today s
constantly advancing society. With people and companies becoming increasingly connected,
cell phones allow you to perform job duties whenever and wherever you might find yourself. The
first cell phones were very bulky and ample and they resembled a radio accessory. The first
Motorola was two pounds. Over the years, the structure of cell phones has adapted to fit the
style and wants of every user. Cell phone usage has become a necessity of life in today s society.
People cannot live without their cell phones. What was once considered a luxury item, is now a
must have item at just about every moment. Cell phones have become a very popular electronic
product with the constant availability of fast internet connection, GPS capability and the life
saving tracking device and help for people in emergency situations. The importance of cell
phones has grown over the years with more and more people getting addicted to the speedy
technology. It is not just a luxury anymore, it serves as a basic need. (Why have cell phones
become a necessity in common society?) Cell phones help you stay in touch with your family and
maintain a relation with your business associates. Cell phones are necessary to communicate with
people whom you work with and people who live far away from you. Where the land line telephone
took place of written communication when it became commonplace, the cell phone and

51. A Study On The Chat Before The Heels Of Advocate General...
As I noted in our chat before the webinar began, coming on the heels of Advocate General Yves
Bot s opinion (such an accelerated timeline is unprecedented; a final decision usually issues 3 4
months after the AG opinion) the news that the European Court of Justice plans to issue a final
decision on October 6 raises the prospect of a swift one two punch to the Safe Harbor
arrangement. The outcome could throw the existing Safe Harbor framework into disarray and
conceivably invalidate it. 2. A final opinion invalidating the framework approved in the
Commission s 2000 opinion would be seismic. The U.S. and EU have the largest trade
relationship in the world; they account for over half of global GDP and almost one third of global
trade... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They are being pummeled by the Parliament to suspend Safe Harbor immediately. 5. Note: the
specific question referred by the Irish High Court is the authority of DPAs to investigate and
suspend transfers under Safe Harbor. If, as the AG did, the ECJ finds that DPAs have that
authority to suspend without limitation by the Commission, one can envision a tsunami of
DPA actions to suspend data transfers or complaints asking them to do so. 6. Along with these,
DPAs and the Commission can expect a rush of submissions of Binding Corporate Rules and
Model Contract clauses as organizations that have relied on Safe Harbor look for alternatives,
though Omer Tene has suggested these too may be subject to challenge on the rationale of an
opinion like the AG s. Omer is a friend and Associate Professor at the College of Management
School of Law at the Stanford University Center for Internet and Society. He writes extensively
about the internet, privacy, our digital lives, etc. 7. Lastly, a clear declaration that the
Commission s 2000 decision is invalid would nullify the legal basis for data transfers under the
Safe Harbor framework unless the Court limits the scope or the effective date of such a ruling.
The impact would fall not only on the big Internet brand names that are often the objects of
European angst, but on a great many smaller EU enterprises that lack choices for where to store
data. 8. The back hall chatter in Brussels

Roast Joseph Conrad s Kurtz from Heart of Darkness is an insecure man, that is afraid of failure.
Kurtz whole purpose in the novel was to collect ivory and he was the best at it, but his time in
Africa was detrimental to his character, which is why he deserves this roast. His time in Africa
authorized him to enslave and kill many natives of the Congo, which makes him a despicable
character in all, but it is his greediness and cowardice to do the right thing that makes him an awful
human being. Kurtz knew that the enslavement of the natives was wrong once he realized kinship
between himself and the natives, but him, being the coward he is, could not afford to lose his
position as the best ivory collector for other human beings. His disregard... Show more content on

Pearl proves herself intelligent when, as a small child, she notices the prejudice directed toward
her and her mother. She proves to be most perceptive when she was able to correctly guess her
father without knowing a thing about him just by Dimmesdale s actions and interactions with
Hester. Most children are unaware of the issues that concern adults and instead are distracted
with child games, but not Pearl. Pearl questioned the whole town for their bigoted values by
asking her mother why she had to wear the scarlet letter but not her father. In fact, she was the
only person that called Dimmesdale out for his hypocrisy and cowardly behavior. Pearl is strong

other children that are ignorant of the hardships that follow the small family. Even at a young age

53. The Progressive Movement in the US Essay
In the first article, The Failure of Progressivism by Richard Abrams, he says the progressives mostly
sought to introduce old moral beliefs on Americans by trying to integrate Immigrants by making
them accept the ways of American life. But Abrams states those goals were ruined for important
motives. One being the movement failed because of racism, which was widespread, throughout this
time era. Abrams also considers the new scientific developments concerning culture and race
affected the movement in a relevant manner. Conversely, progressives thought differently and felt
that they need to integrate all cultures to fit it in to the American lifestyle. Abrams goes on to say
that people started coming to the conclusion that cultural... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They also thought the disreputable events that were publicized by Muckrakers and the antibusiness
emotion made progressivism prosper. Link and McCormick go on to explain we must differentiate
each reform in the progressive movement and examine its reasoning and outcomes afterwards. Like
Abrams, they too believe science affected the reforms and referred to the new knowledge of social
science. Link and McCormick stand by the multiple failures of the progressive movement by
stating, the effort to change so many things all at once, and the grandiose claims made for the
moral and material betterment which would result, meant that disappointments were bound to
occur. Backing up their reason for not entirely blaming the reformers for the failure of progressive
movement because they had attempted alternative methods. Link and McCormick also remind us
that the progressives published their failures for others to see and remark upon. The progressives
recognized each cultural group in the U.S. had different interests, hindering the collaboration of the
nation as a whole. Abrams thought similarly except that our nation was forcing the different
cultures to be more Anglo Protestant. Link and McCormick acknowledge the progressives failed to
remove social clash and their reforms did not complete the intent that they were made for. But the
progressives had small accomplishment and brought major innovations to almost every facet of
public life in the United States. The

Who are the most important actors in the global political economy and Why?

Unequal relationship of society is basis of
Introduction/thesis statements:
Global Political Economy is essentially a study of a political battle between the winners and
losers of global economic exchange. In fact, understanding global economy relies on a clear
knowledge of the process of political competition. Political power possessed by actors regulates
economic activity and in turn this creates the basis for and affects political power. Through, critical
analysis of the concept of global political economy it becomes clear that there are three prominent
theories that form GPE, mercantilism, economic liberalism and Marxism.
At this point in time, the main actors in the international system are nation states seeking an agenda
of their own based on personal gain and national interest. Significantly, the most important actor is
the United States, a liberal international economy, appointed its power after the interwar period
becoming the dominant economy and in turn attained the position of hegemonic stability in the
international system. The reason why the United States is dominating is imbedded in their intrinsic
desire to continuously strive for their own national interest both political and economic. Further,
there are other nature of actors that are not just nation states, including non states or transnational,
