Financing With Schoolwork
My current situation is that I am having trouble balancing my school work with
my job and personal life. I would like to have a balanced schedule so I would have
enough time to get school work done and go to work while still doing the things I
enjoy. Some of my choices are that I could stop most things I do that are considered
time wasters when it comes to college. By doing this I could improve my grades and
my study pattern. But I will lose some of the only hours I have when I am not at
work. I could ask my job for less hours but by doing this I have a chance of losing my
job or I will not make enough to support myself. Or I could fit all my school work in
and complete it before I leave campus on days I do not work. This way I do not push
off the work and let things fall through the cracks. I will commit to trying to stay at
the campus to do my work to see if I improve my grades. I will know if this plan is...

Strengths Strength 1: Largest Restaurant Chain in Market Segment, with highest

Unites States. Chipotle has over 1,400 locations and plans to open an additional 140

trial, expand, and experiment with new ideas in certain geographic locations.
Chipotle is able to trial new menu items and not have it affect the bottom line, and in
addition, they are able to gather an incredible amount of information regarding
customer data. This data will allow Chipotle to understand the different demographics
of its customers in the trial locations. With its 1,400 locations in many locations
provides Chipotle with the strength to trial new ideas. Strength 2: Quality of Meats,
Vegetables, and ingredients Food with Integrity Customers in today s entire
restaurant segments want to know not only the nutritional values of their food, but
also how it was raised. Chipotle uses only free range animals for their meats and
organic farms for their vegetables. This differentiates them from other restaurants that

differentiation allows Chipotle to maintain a simple menu of high quality meats and

What Is The Nile River In Ancient Egypt
There is no doubt that the Nile River is the most important river for Egypt. Without
this river, Egypt would be an arid, desolate desert. Indeed, if the Nile River weren t
existent, Egypt would not have prospered as one of the greatest ancient civilizations.
The Nile River stretches across Egypt from north to south and provides the regions
around with agricultural land. In the north, the NileRiver splits into the two
directions, forming a delta. This delta provides fertile soil that is beneficial to the
farmers of Egypt. Nearly 99 percent of the country lives within the Nile Delta region
or along the Nile River, proving the importance of this wonderful river. Every year,
the Nile River floods the land around, bringing extra water and rich
The Life and Impact of Vladimir Lenin Essay
Vladimir Ilyich Lenin was an impactful political leader in Russia during the twentieth
century. He was a famous figure and left a huge impact on the Russian/Soviet Union
Empire for many decades to follow. What he may be known for best, Lenin created
and brought up the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics along with helping with the
introduction of communism. He applied that communism concept to the Union of
Soviet Socialist Republics government that he was running. As the political leader in
the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics government, he tried his best to carry out the
communism plan and make the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics a powerful
empire. Vladimir Leninwas ordained at an early age to become a revolutionary leader.

The disagreement led to a split of the Social Democratic into the Mensheviks, which
Plekhanov headed, and the Bolsheviks, which Lenin ran ( Vladimir Lenin Biography
). While Lenin learned almost all there is to know about the communism idea from
Plekhanov, he turned against him and they became rivals. Lenin was uprising fast in
his movements for the revolutionary of Russia. Becoming the leader of the
Bolsheviks group was a huge step forward for him. The only thing in his way was
the opposing group ran by Plekhanov, the Mensheviks.
With knowledge and some experience under his belt, Lenin was ready to take on the
Russian government. He would return to Russia and continue to plan his
revolutionary movements against the government. History.com writes that after the
outbreak between both revolutionary parties, Lenin headed back to Russia. The
revolution in Russia ended when Nicholas II promised reforms, which included the
adoption of a constitution and the creation of an elected legislature. However, once
order was restored, the Czar declined most of the reforms. Because it was at the
same time as World War I, the economy of Russia was disrupted by the costly war
effort. In March of 1917, riots and strikes broke out between the proletariats over
the scarcity of food. Dispirited army troops ganged with the strikers, and on March
15 Nicholas II was forced to relinquish. This ended centuries of
Argumentative Essay About Grand Canyon
Imagine the beauty of a crystal stream as it flows through the umber twists of a
sandstone valley. Birds sing as the sun shines upon the rock layers, a sneak peek
into the landscape of ages past. Now imagine the same view, but the birds are
gone; scared away by the sound of a nearby construction site. The stream is now
toxic from the sewers that drain into it. The timeless rock layers are harvested by
tourists who want to take a piece of nature home with them to collect dust on their
mantel. Without proper funding, our nation s beautiful Grand Canyon would be
reduced to nothing more than a glorified pile of rubble. In the last 15 years,
Congress has reduced funding for our country s national parks, monuments, and
memorials by 15 percent (Bilmes and Loomis). This is a minimization from the
already strained $3 million budget for an asset valued at $92,000 (Bilmes and
Loomis). The fact that our nation is willing to allow... Show more content on

Parks are crumbling, with potholeВpocked roads and outdated visitors centers (Egan

purchase private properties within parks...to prevent development by private
buyers (Bilmes and Loomis). Steadily, Americans will lose these treasured lands
and their artifacts. What is now preserved for a glimpse into the past, will soon be
ravaged by wholesale oil and gas development if no more funds are provided
(Thompson). If Americans wish for their posterity to witness these natural doorways
to the past, if Americans wish for the future to not forget the wonders of the past,
then a boost in funding is imperative. The conservation of ancient artifacts and

rocking horse winner Essay
D. H. Lawrence s quot; The Rocking Horse Winner quot; is a classic modernistic
story about a family filled with inner conflicts all portrayed through the innocence of
a young child. Tortured by a house that whispers to him, Paul tries to gain his
mothers missing affection by presenting that he posses luck which gives him money.
He presents this luck by picking the name of a winning horse while riding his rocking
horse. The whisperswhich state quot;there must be more money disturbs Paul and he
believes it exists because his family does not have enough money. Paul driveshimself
to a state of insanity and perishes because of this. This story is written in a radiant
way which displays several ironic situations and statements. Here are... Show more

He believes in order to obtain money, one must posses luck. This brings forth the next
example of irony present which is shown on pg.77. In a dialogue with his mother,
Paul asks Is luck money, mother? , and his mother replies No, Paul. Not quite. It s
what causes you to have money. Paul then responds Oh! I thought when Uncle Oscar
said filthy lucker it meant money. This is ironic because Paul interprets filthy lucre as
filthy lucker which he believes means luck but really meant money. It shows that Paul
does not understand that luck is not money and that statement further shows his
misunderstanding between the two concepts.
Religious words and phrases are constantly being declared throughout the story. On
pages 82 and 83 Basset refers to Paul s insight on winning horses in a religious voice
stating It s as if he had it from heaven. On pg.78 after stating he was lucky, Paul said
God told him he was lucky. On pg 80 Basset was as serious as a church . All these
religious examples show that the rocking horse is symbolized as a pagan idol. The
rocking horse is worshipped by Peter, Basset and later by Uncle Oscar who depend
on the horse for their demands.
The fourth and final example of irony is the phrase repeated by Paul throughout the
story, Honour bright . Paul uses this phrase when he is referring to the club or
alliance that Basset and Uncle Oscar have formed with him in regards to his rocking
horse secret. Paul
Schema Theory
Vaishnavi Mamillapalle Psychology HL Mr. Wilcox Schema Essay December 9th,
2012 Schema Theory Schemas are mental representation of knowledge built
through experiences from people, situation or object. Schema Theory is divided
into three stages to get a better understanding of the memory processes which are
1. Encoding Transforming sensory information to meaningful memory 2. Storage
Creates a biological trace of the memory, which is either consolidated or lost 3.
Retrieval using stores information all the time . Schema is seen as a kind of

It also showed that people who encoded information were irrelevant to their
prevailing schema because people who had the buyer schema changed to burglar
schema at encoding were able to retrieve burglar info when schema was changed
and vice versa. Some evaluation that came up was that the participants were asked
to read from only one perspective from two, and it was controlled and conducted in
a lab. Also after the delay of 12 minutes participants were asked to recall the story
again which would give more accurate results of what they are trying to find. This
experiment helps to explain many cognitive processes. There were more and more
researches took place on schema theory, another example is an experiment
conducted by Bower et al which was called The restaurant script . In this experiment
participants were asked to name 20 steps that would happen when they visit a
restaurant. After this experiment was conducted he came to a conclusion that around
15 steps defined that most of the people what it means to eat at a restaurant. This
steps list was later named by the restaurant script. They use this kind of script
information to write stories about people going to eat at a restaurant. Later, these
stories were presented to a new group of participants. These participants first had
study the stories and later recall them. The findings of this research were interesting,

Chemical Burn Research Paper
The severity of a chemical burn depends on the following factors: corrosive capability
of the chemical burn, concentration of the chemical, temperature of the chemical or
the solution in which it dissolved and lastly, duration of the contact with the chemical
(page 294). Also an important dependent on the severity of the burnis by how deep the
burn in question penetrates through the skin. This is determined by the location of
the burn, age of the victim, and the amount of burned area (page 293).
Chemical burns can destroy body tissue, depending on the extent of destruction
including the severity of the burn. However, chemical burns can also cause a high risk
of infection in victims. Due to this risk of infection it is important to keep the
Social Analysis Of Marxist And Marxist Theory
Social Analysis in Marxist Tradition I chose to concentrate on question three for this
paper because I found the idea of class analysis and how it affected the Marxist
tradition to be a fascinating subject matter. While researching the kinds of social
analysis that were used in the formation of Marxist theory I found that Karl Marxand
his predecessors concentrated less on the role sociology plays in society and
concentrated more on issues of class struggle and how it affects the formation of
society. I believe that their focus on class struggle is because it feeds into the idea
of reforming society in a more fair and just manner. I found two of Karl Marx s
predecessors, Jean Paul Sartre and Lenin to have very differing approaches to
Marxist theory. Lenin seemed to concentrate more on the historical aspects and
social structure of the Marxist society and how these two aspects of Marxist theory
would exist in the formation of a given society. Sartre chose to focus more on the
philosophy of dialectical materialism and how one should employee this feature of
Marxist theory into a given society. Dialectical materialism focuses on the
philosophy of economics. This view of the economic structure of society was
developed around the idea that both business owners and their employees would be
compensated in a fair and just manner for their work. As I go forward in this paper I
will attempt to explain the differences in Sartre s and Lenin s theories of how

Analysis Of The Outlaws Of Sherwood By Robin Mckinley
The book The Outlaws of Sherwood is written by Robin McKinley and was
published in 1988. It takes place in the medieval times during reign of King
Richard the Lionheart. The theme of this story I believe is to stay strong to what
you believe in while helping other people even when you are being persecuted.
The story follows a young man named Robin, who is our protagonist in the story.
Robin is a young forester who is a good archer. One day as Robin is leaving an
archery contest someone shoots at him and barely misses. Robin was not thinking
and shot back while accidentally killing someone. Robin runs and hides in the

The Sound And The Fury Essay Outline
In William Faulkner s The Sound and the Fury, the Compson family is the model for
the perfect dysfunctional family. The mother Caroline is a hypochondriac, and the
father Jason an alcoholic. Quentin is neurotic; Caddy, promiscuous; Jason, cynical;
and Benjy, mentally challenged. Quentin s neurosis is particularly tragic, as he
ultimately decides to end his life by drowning himself in a river. His decision to
commit suicide can be traced back to his negligent and destructive parents as they
shaped his behavior and his understanding of the world.
As the oldest child, growing up, Quentin s only source of a male role model was his
father. Mr. Compson, sadly, served as a destructive example for Quentin. Living by
the ideal no battle is ever won...they are not even fought (76), Mr. Compson believed
that fate is not something that can be changed. This view enables him to consistently
give up, driving him to alcoholism. In this way, Mr. Compson is passing... Show

Compson s cynical, nihilistic outlook on life heavily influences Quentin. In fact,
throughout his monologue, Quentin quotes many of his father s sayings. When
Quentin is unable to comprehend the things occurring in his family and in the world,
he often resorts to the words of his father. However, Quentin struggles to fuse his
own head with his father s ideas, until he eventually attempts to reject the
destructive philosophy advocated by his father. But, the world Quentin resides in
appears to constantly confirm Mr. Compson s views. Dalton Ames expresses his
contempt for women, saying women are all bitches (92); Mr. Compson essentially
says the same thing, noting that women have a natural affinity for evil (...). Gerald
Bland exploits women, and Mr. Compson says that all women expect to be
mistreated. As Quentin tries and fails to create an ethical set of values to negate his
father s skeptical view of the world, he feels that suicide is the only way he can
make peace with his father and his father s

A Critique of Chapter 11 in Neil Postman s Technopoly
Essay
A Critique of Chapter 11 in Neil Postman s Technopoly In chapter 11 (The Loving
Resistance Fighter) of the book Technopoly, published in 1992, Neil Postman
focuses on a solution to the problems created by Technopoly. A Technopoly (a word
postman capitalizes throughout the book) is a society that no longer merely uses
technology as a support system but instead is shaped by it. Postman proposes that we
become loving resistance fighter(s) who retain the narratives and symbols that once
made the United States the hope of the world (p.182). He believes education is to
lead the resistance against technology by changing the curriculum to help restore a
sense of meaning and purpose lost to the Technopoly.... Show more content on

In chapter 11 Postman gives examples of people who resist the American
Technopoly. An example of a resistance fighter is a person who ignores a poll
unless they know the questions asked and why. As Postman introduced in chapter
8 ( Invisible Technologies ), the form of a question can produce many different
answers. It may also restrict us from seeing solutions to problems that may become
visible through a question worded differently. Postman shares the story of two
priests who write the Pope asking if it was allowable to smoke and pray at the
same time. One priest phrased the question Is it permissible to smoke while
praying? and the response was no because praying should be the focus of ones
attention; the other priest asked Is it permissible to pray while smoking? and the
response was yes, since it is always appropriate to pray. The opinion of almost any
issue is a function of the question asked. In the American Technopoly the opinion
poll is a strict yes or no answer to an unexamined question. One is therefore unable
to share their knowledge and is easily mislead to answer a question in a certain
way. Another example of a resistance fighter is a person who does not allow
psychology or any social science to pre empt the language and thought of common
sense. This example clearly relates to chapter 9 ( Scientism ), in which Postman
expresses his annoyance of the many people who have a strong

Authentic tacos are a traditional Mexican dish composed of a corn or wheat

Martin Luther King Jr. Essay
Martin Luther King Jr. From the Apostle Paul to Martin Buber: Martin Luther King s
use of Historical and Religious Figures in his Letter From Birmingham Jail In his
Letter From Birmingham Jail, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. is addressing his fellow
clergymen in response to their accusations of his unwise and untimely activities. Like
most other reformers, he finds his greatest rationalization and defense from the word
of God. Considering the religious affiliation of his audience, King appeals to the
clergymen by instituting examples from, and associates himself with historical and
religious figures. Creatively, King is establishing a common ground between himself

There s something else to be noted here though. Not only is King successful in
relating himself to these figures, but also his ideas. When referring to his plea for
social reform, he calls it the gospel of freedom. King s diction is very profitable to
his argument. Automatically when the word gospel is used, one associates it with
God (and probably more so do the clergymen). By referring to his ideas of freedom
as a gospel, he is adding religious connotations to them. Now, not only is King being
associated with the word of God, but also so are his ideas. In doing this, he is
alluding to the point that the toleration and acceptance of segregation and slavery
etc, goes against the word of God. These things then make men less virtuous and
pious. There has been a lot of research and analization of King s writings by other
scholars, who also recognize his tactful talents. From the article Martin Luther
King, Jr., as Scholar: A Reexamination of His Theological Writings, Clayborne
Carson (along with Peter Holloran, Ralph E. Luker, and Penny Russell) examine
King s method of eclectic composition. King s appropriations of the words and
ideas of others should certainly not be understood merely as violations of academic
rules. They also indicate his singular ability to intertwine his words and ideas with
those of others to express his beliefs
Hall Of The Bulls Essay
When trying to create the exhibit of Rulers and Subjects throughout the Ages, I
figured my objective of promoting the role is to create the exhibit as interactive as
possible. The following paper focuses on the five statues or paintings that I thought
were going to best explain five different time periods and their importance to human
kind.
During the first time period of Prehistoric Art, I decided to choose a recreation of the
Hall of the Bulls located in the Lascaux Cave. The Hall of the Bulls best represents
the type of artistry that humans created in 13,000 BCE. This image is important
because it gives present people an idea of how our past selves functioned. Within
13,000 BCE, we understood the concept of religious beliefs such as shamanism,
which is when our people ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
During this time period, hieratic scale was first being employed regularly.
Therefore, I would like optical illusions to be placed in this exhibit when focusing
on Royal Standard or Ur. There will be a small opening to the room that has the
artifact so that when an individual looks into the room from the opening, the
painting will appear small, when looked at from a faraway distance. When the
individual enters the room, the panting will look larger than it once did. This will
allow individuals to develop and understand the concept of the hierarchy of scale and
allow a strong visual representation.
The Egyptian period is well known within the 21st century as a cultural phenomenon
and represents the idea of mortality and human connections with the spirit world. The
work that best demonstrates both mortality and spirt is the statue of Khafra. The
reason for this piece of art is because the way humans demonstrated their belief in
gods was through spiritual means. Since the introduction of Kha statues being
created, it brought the idea of humans being able to have the same power and divinity
as spiritual gods

prostitution is controversial, states making prostitution legal, and equal to

because of the lack of honesty by the prostitute, for want of extra money, and
pressure of the john (customer) to remain anonymous. According to research by
Brents and Hausbeck, both professors of sociology at the University of Nevada: In
1985 and 1986, the Nevada Administrative Code imposed sexually transmitted
disease and HIV tests on legal, working prostitutes (NAC Chapter 441A010 A325
and 441A775 A815). The result is that each person who applies for employment as
a prostitute must take a blood test for HIV and syphilis and must submit a cervical
specimen to be tested for gonorrhea and chlamydia. These tests must be negative
before a prostitute can be licensed to beginwork. Every week thereafter while
working in a brothel, prostitutes must see local physicians, who conduct PAP
smears for gonorrhea and chlamydia and monthly blood tests for syphilis and HIV.
If a working girl tests positive for anything other than HIV, she is unable to work
until treated, cured, and her physician reinstates her health card. If she tests positive
for HIV, she can no longer work as a legal brothel prostitute. (276)
Prostitution is an incredibly dangerous job for the men/women that participate, not
only by the social stigma placed on them, but also the areas where these jobs are
Hidden Figures Character Analysis
Adapted from the book by Margot Lee Shetterly and directed by Theodore Melfi,
Hidden Figures is a film based on the true stories of three black women (Dorothy
Vaughan, Mary Jackson, Katherine Johnson) working for NASA in 1960 s.
Dorothy Vaughan, played by Octavia Spencer in the film, was a programmer and
Mary Jackson, played by Janelle Monae in the film, was an engineer. Dorothy
passed away in 2008 and Mary in 2005. Katherine Johnson, a mathematician played
by Taraji P. Henson, is now 98 years old and still resides with her husband Corporal
Jim Johnson in Hampton, Virginia where the film is set. These women collectively
played a pivotal role in sending the first American into space and eventually to the
moon. A critical analysis of the film reveals the history and dynamics of racial
domination institutionally and interpersonally as well as prejudices and challenges
faced by women in particular. Long before machine computers, desktops and
multifunction calculators were created, humans did all the computing by hand.
Women working as human computers dates back to the late nineteenth century when
the Harvard College Observatory hired several women to collect, study and catalog
thousands of images of stars. These women paved the way for women who would
work in computing, engineering, and aerospace industries as human computers
(Woodman, 2016). NASA began hiring women of color to work as computers after
the attack on Pearl Harbor. Dorothy, Mary, and Katherine all began as
Technology Essay
Technology
In the following paper I am going to attempt to discuss the hindering effects of
technology. How technology affects the laziness of our children, desensitizes our
otherwise compassionate human race, and may eventually lead us to our doom. Also
in this paper I will attempt to discuss some benefits of modern technology as relating
to family and communal prosperity. Since the invention of Eli Whitneys cotton gin
back in the 1800s men have had their brains full steam ahead on the idea of
technology and its advancement into our everyday lives. Leading us up to the present
day where we can have a hot cooked neucro meal at the push of the button. Our
music no longer has to be cranked by hand, in fact our latest CD players can hold ...

Both were intended for better communication among our society. For example,
President Roosevelt used to have fire side chats on the radio during the trying
times of World War II. TV was a great advancement as far as putting the voices of
power, such as the president, with their faces. TVs were also used to bring the
family together for a late night show. In todays world all that seems to be on the
popular radio stations is slang and a lot of bleeping. As for TV, I cant seem to get
that footage of the World Trade Towers going down. Over and over again they
show those clips, not thinking of the thousands of souls floating away at that very
same moment. Children see this stuff and think nothing about the chaos. Even
their cartoon characters have huge bombs, and kill each other. Now I don t know
about you but I never saw Mickey kicking Donald s ass all over the TV when I was
growing up. These kinds of shows have led to hours of programmable crap we feed to
our children each day.
Still the communication benefits are there, but the desensitizing danger and loss
of compassion in our children is a real threat. Recently weve developed a new
technology, quite a nifty gadget if you ask me. This one is called the computer and
started off as one hell of a calculator, designed for speedy math. So computers made
math go a bit easier, what else could this little box do? Now that they are in

Why is income inequality an important issue for the Chinese society and its future
economic growth?
Introduction
Nowadays, China has become the second largest economy in the world. The GDP
(gross domestic product) of china was growing at 9.7% per year in average since
1978, which the year of Chinese open door politic founded. China also has become
the biggest producer and consumer in many key agricultural and industrial markets
and the largest FDI recipient among the developing countries. The performance of
china in developing of economy is called china s economic miracle , which be studied

The Gini coefficients of rural populations increased about 75% and the urban
increased about 113% in these 30 years. Moreover, the aggregate Gini coefficient for
China reached 0.4 by 2000, which imply the serious income inequality of China in
general.
At the same time, the class formation is also getting serious from these 30 years.
The income ratios of top 10% urban households was 3 times to the bottom 10% in
1985, but it s turn to about 9 in 2007, which showed in figure 5.

Although the income inequality is very serious in china, some economists based on
Kuznets s Inverted U Curve Hypothesis , still argue that is good for Chinese
economy. The income inequality is the reasonable products of industrialization. They
believe that China is in the initial stage of industrialization, so the income inequality
is positive to Chinese economy like proving cheap labour force. However, they
ignored many serious damage of income inequality to Chinese society and future
economic growth.
The damage of income inequality
The rising urban rural income inequality made a deeper and deeper gap between
urban areas and rural areas. In China, with the rapid development of urban

Medicare and Medicaide Essay
Medicare and Medicaid together are the single biggest contributor to [the United
States] long term [budget] deficit. This idea was expressed by President Obama
during his 2011 state of the Union Speech. After saying this, the president said that
health care costs need to be reduced, including these two services. Medicareand
Medicaidare beneficial to those who receive their services, and the criteria for
eligibility currently allow many to qualify for either program. This is most likely the
cause of the major deficit that the president spoke of. However, downsizing or
eliminating these programs to lessen the deficit will affect many people and their
ability to receive healthcare.

Yes Medicare is supposed to be an insurance program that helps the needy aging
population. I personally don t want to strip seniors of their essential benefits, but it
is affecting me and my future; with the inevitable raise of taxes, shrinking defense,
and squeezing of other domestic spending everything from the FBI to college aid
(Samuelson, 2011, para.1). Many seniors count on these services but we as a
nation need to make changes to help the future retirees. According to Samuelson,
Obama said we must win the future, but our massive federal debt will keep
growing because, without restraining spending on retirees, there s no path to a
balanced budget (Samuelson, 2011,para.2). This shows true in Medicaid too, The
social safety net [Medicaid] for the growing ranks of poor Americans would be
further strained (Samuelson,2011, para.2). It would also be helpful to screen
people better so they don t abuse this system. If Medicaid would verify assets they
can weed out the people who don t deserve these services. This will cut costs by
verifying better eligibility, which in turn will be less wasteful. This is all very
scary for the future, interest of our country. From 2012 to 2021... Social Security
would rise 27 percent and Medicare, 32 percent (Samuelson, 2011,sec.3) In my
opinion with the higher life expectancy of our nation we need to move the age for
Medicare benefits up higher to reflect the increase in life
The Lost Lenore, By Edgar Allan Poe
When someone hears the name Edgar Allan Poe they think of a poet, they think of
his work, they think of his darkness. People can dismiss the fact that there is a
reason behind his dark emotion, but if someone looks at his life they would
understand who his lost Lenore was.
Poe was born to traveling actors in Boston on January 19, 1809. Edgar was the
second child, his other brother William Henry Leonard Poe would become a poet
before his early death, and Poe s sister Rosalie would grow up to teach writing at a
Richmond girls school. Within three years of Poe s birth both of his parents died, an

they had ever been during the author s lifetime. Griswold s distorted image of Poe

Persuasive Speech On Animal Rights
People go to zoos and aquariums and think nothing of the animals. One pays to see
the lion do absolutely nothing, and it does this because it knows that this day is no
different than every other day. Animals may have given birth recently, yet one sees
the baby because it has been taken and sold off to another zoo. Some may argue that
zoos and Aquariums are the source to why animals live longer. Although it has been
proven, that even while being in captivity, many animals suffer mentally from their
fellows death, that is because not all animals in zoos live to old age, or sadly
cannot be allowed to (Bostock 65). Furthermore, when a lion s only cellmate passes
away, it causes depression. It is the details that visitors aren t bothered to think or
even ask about. People do not wonder about the cruelty these animals suffer and their
behavior, which is why I strongly stand by change being made to accommodate these
animals rights.
In the previous paragraph, I mentioned captive animals, as being cellmates. It may
seem a bit odd to refer to them as that, and to some it may be cruel. But there is a
specific reason to why I did that. Animals aren t decorations, things, or jokes. They
are all living things and deserve the same respect we as humans possess. If one
was to think about zoos and aquariums as prisons, a lot would make sense. A prison
consists of 4 walls where one cannot get out, that is until one s sentence is done. An
inmate is fed 2 3 times a day and one can

How significant was the involvement of the League of Nations/United Nations and
Britain in the development of the Arab Israeli conflict? The time period before and
after the Arab Israeli conflict will be the focus of this investigation. This question
was intriguing due to the possibility of the League of Nations causing tension
rather than promoting peace. In order to explore the effect the League of Nations

Defying Convention, By Joseph Heller
Defying convention, Joseph Heller in Catch 22 dehumanizes the soldier and
introduces the reader to the decay of a grim world structured by bureaucracies.
With the amalgamation of incoherent chronology and scattered symbols throughout
the novel, he presents his ideas in an absurd manner. His sullen irony mirrors that
of society. Rendering mankind s abilities moot, Heller dismantles language and its
significance. The very substance of his work the mindless symbols, dark satire,
and deconstruction of language defies the established methods of writing.
Through a novel approach in representing war, Heller eclipses the standard war
novel and by doing so depicts the absurdity of military bureaucracy. The soldier in
white represents the perfect soldier and thus the quintessential absurd character. In
the first chapter of the novel, the reader is introduced to a soldier, wrapped
endlessly in bandages, lying limply on a hospital bed. The name of this soldier is
never revealed to the reader, as well as any other attributes. Heller writes, sewn into
the bandages over the insides of both elbows were zippered lips through which he
was fed clear fluid from a clear jar (19). This clarity associated with his person the
white bandages, clear fluid, and clear jar do not represent the oft mentioned purity of
man, but rather the void that accompanies becoming a pawn of bureaucracy. This
soldier in white is but a mere pawn to the bureaucracy that is the military he is easily
Open Educational Resources ( Oer )
Introduction
Open educational resources (OER) are any resources available at little or no cost
that can be used for teaching, learning or research (Educause, 2010). In 2008, South
Africa experienced widespread load shedding affecting the domestic and industrial
electricity users as the result of the lack of capacity by Eskom, the South African
power utility. South Africa is an energy intensive country and as such production and
raw materials processing are energy intensive activities. The coal is the major
primary energy source and the abundance of coal reserves have partly contributed to
the unit price of electricity being amongst the cheapest in the world (Department of
Minerals and Energy, 2005).
Energy efficiency has become recognised as one of the most effective ways of
meeting the demands of sustainable development and has been referred to as the
best energy resource. In 2005 the Department of Minerals and Energy published its
Energy Efficiency Strategy in support of some of the objectives spelt out in the 1998
White Paper on Energy Policy. The strategy set a national target for energy efficiency
improvement of 12% by 2015.
South Africa s unprecedented economic growth is one of the factors that have
contributed to the country s current power shortage situation. Building a new power
station takes a number of years, and until one or more new power stations are
operational, the people of South Africa need to conserve energy resources and use
them efficiently. Energy

Alexander the Second and the Title Tsar Liberator Essay
Alexander the Second and the Title Tsar Liberator
In the 19th Century, Russia had no zemstva, very little education, industry and
railway building, a biased judicial system and very few freed peasants. Czar
Alexander II, who succeeded Nicolas I in 1855, went some ways to remedying these
deficiencies through a series of reforms. Alexander II became the great modernizer of
Russia, walking a delicate line between preserving Russia s Slavic identity and
enabling its people to benefit from Western advancements. For this reason he was
known to some as the Czar Liberator . However, indeed he was a liberator in name
only.

For the educational reform, the Czar adopted a more liberal education. Censorship
was relaxed, the universities were given freedom and independence, and more
Western ideas were introduced to scholars and students. People were more open
minded and became to demand more under these liberal reforms.
Though Czar Alexander II returned to reactionary rule when an attempt was made to
assassinate him in the 1860s, he did turn once more to reform in 1880. He made
plans to set up a General Commission which would include representatives from the
Zemstva. This would not be a parliament but would be a consultative voice when the
Czar required it. But this was an attempt towards a parliamentary government.
Superficially, Czar Alexander II seemed to be so liberate from his series of reform.
Yet, notwithstanding these measures, it would be wrong, as is sometimes done, to
describe Alexander II as a liberal. He was in fact a firm upholder of autocratic
principles, sincerely convinced both of his duty to maintain the God given autocratic
power he had inherited and of Russia s unreadiness for constitutional or representative
government.
For the emancipation of serfs, it was actually essential more than out of the Czar s
willingness. The bulk of the Russian population, about 80%, were the peasants and
serfs. Alexander II recognised that emancipation was vital. Freed
Essay on Parental Expectations in Romeo and Juliet
Romeo and Juliet
Parental Expectations
Parental expectations are basically the way parents expect their kids to live their
lives. The definition of expectation is the act of expecting; to have a prospect of
future good or profit . Parents often expect their kids to be perfect. By this I mean
make all the right decisions, do everything the way the parents want it to be done,
and live up to their parents standards. I don t always agree with a lot of today s
parental expectations because some parents try to benefit themselves instead of the
kids. In this essay, I will describe parental expectations from today and from the play
Romeo and Juliet. I will link some of the examples of expectations to movies, or real
life scenarios. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Kids have dreams of their own, too.
Another situation in society today is that kids are expected to follow in their
parents footsteps. Some parents that own companies expect their children to take
over one day without ever asking the child s thoughts on the idea. An example of
this situation is from the movie Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer . There is an elf
named Hermey. Like all other elves in the North Pole, Hermey is expected to
make toys for all the children around the world. There is one problem; Hermey
doesn t want to make toys. Hermey wants to be a dentist. After hearing this, the
head elf gets very angry at Hermey. Hermey is known as a misfit due to his choice
and he later runs away to not have to make toys anymore and to learn more about
being a dentist. It is important to always ask your children what they think of certain
things and what they want in life instead of just expecting or assuming what they
want without their consent. Expectations put a lot of pressure on kids and it would
just be easier on them to let them make their own decisions (but still guide them in
the right path).

I Am A Neonatal Nurse
Nursing has a variety of different specialties. The specialty I am most excited for
is neonatal. Neonatal nurses are nurses who care for premature babies, otherwise
known as neonates. They have many different job responsibilities, including,
assessing a client s pain, caring for them, and understanding what is best for the
specific client. Despite all the criticism about my career choice, I have reinforced
my decision by learning about the effects of stress, the type of care nurses
implement, and best practices of neonatal nurses. Before coming to school I knew I
aspired to be a neonatal nurse, although I was not aware of everything that went
along with it. I was a premature baby, along with my older sister. We were both

This at first, did not make a whole lot of sense to me, but now it does. When a baby
has gone through stress in utero, they have built up a tolerance to stress and pain.
Their bodies have felt factors of strain, and can deal with it a lot better than babies
who have not been exposed to stressful events before. However, after a neonate is
born, it is critical to prevent stress as much as you can. Babies are constantly being
assessed, held, bathed, and fed. Swaddling has been proven to help distress neonates
by being wrapped up in a blanket tightly (Buonocore Bellieni, 2007, p. 87). You can
imagine the immediate shock neonates encounter once leaving their mother s womb.
There they desperately suffer while discovering their new, constricted condition. They
are pinned to their little bed by gravity, deprived of their usual reassuring gestures
(sucking their thumb, playing with their umbilical cord, placenta, or feet,
masturbating, or swallowing amniotic liquid) because of their lack of motor
coordination. They have lost their freedom and any kind of potential initiative; they
are now submissive and become passive. Many of them escape into their own world
and anesthetize their perceptions; they dissociate themselves, which later on will
influence their way of living. I am often brought
National Anthem Protests
National Anthem Protests For the most part of 2016 and throughout the 2017
National Football League s season viewers have seen many protests from players
demonstrated by kneeling or holding a fist up during our country s national anthem.
The players are protesting because of African American discrimination and police
brutality which has become a very strong subject politically. There is a large debate
whether the players should be forced to stand to show respect to our country s flag
and the military personnel that have fought for it. The other side of the debate would
argue that players are peacefully protesting and therefore they are protected by the 1st
amendment. These two contradicting viewpoints have ignited tension within the
nation sparking a separation between either being patriotic for their country, or
opposing its values and foundation due to racial injustices within the African
American community. On August 14th, 2016 the National Football Leagueand its
fans witnessed something that had never been done before by a player. On that day
Collin Kaepernick of the San Francisco 49erstook a knee during the United States
National Anthem (Rorke and Copeland). Immediately, controversy struck the nation
after the protestwas demonstrated. Since this protest many other players in the NFL
have followed their lead to protest against African American oppression and Police
Brutality. Supporters of the individuals protesting typically lean as a liberal biased

Spine Deprivation
Sleep is considered to be one of the most important processes that living organisms
do, but there is a lot that remains unknown about its true function in the brain. The
Wen Bio Gan Group conducted a study on the effects of sleep and dendritic spine
formation after motor learning. To study this a motor learning task is needed. The
researchers used a metal rod that mice can stand on, this rod is then able to rotate
forwards or backwards depending on the direction the mouse is walking. The first
experiment was to see if the rotorod training would cause growth of dendritic spines.
To do this a Two Photon Microscope was used to excite the Yellow Fluorescent

The data showed that the NSD mice had a greater performance score than the SD
mice both times. But when both mice were tested again 5 days after training, the
difference in performance was even greater. Showing that sleep deprivation
hinders performance. This is in line what we have learned in class bout how lack
of sleep often results in decreased cognitive function. More specifically how those
who are chronically sleep deprived have decreased performance similar to those
who have not slept at all. The SD mice were chronically sleep deprived and thus
more prone to making mistakes. This is similar to the data that was present in
class on how the chances of medical errors increase when working re current 24
hour shifts. A problem that I have with this paper is with the imaging of the
dendritic branches. In none of the experiments was any imaging done post training
to see any immediate effects. This would also enable them to better see the effect
of sleep on the mice by isolating any changes that came bout during the initial
imaging. What also should have been done is imaging of the dendrites half way
through the allotted sleep time. This would allow the researchers to see how
immediate sleep effects spine growth to determine if a full a 8 hours are required
and how spine formation rates may change as sleep

While sitting at the end of the, a memory engraves in my brain that I cannot forget.
The end of my dock is significant because of the peaceful periods of time that it

everybody is firing on all four cylinders. Those people who are constantly firing are
only blowing smoke. They never take time to realize the importance of life and
how short it can be. They do not gaze upon the minute details that life provides.
These people need to slow down and bask in the glory. That glory can be as simple
as sitting at the end of a dock. Resting on the dock bestows a sense of peacefulness
that cannot be found within this world much anymore. The dock may be the

I would like to have a balanced schedule so I would have enough time to get school work done and go to work while still doing the things I enjoy. But I will lose some of the only hours I have when I am not at work. I could ask my job for less hours but by doing this I have a chance of losing my job or I will not make enough to support myself. Or I could fit all my school work in and complete it before I leave campus on days I do not work. This way I do not push off the work and let things fall through the cracks. In a dialogue with his mother, Paul asks Is luck money, mother? , and his mother replies No, Paul. Not quite. It s what causes you to have money. Paul then responds Oh! I thought when Uncle Oscar said filthy lucker it meant money. This is ironic because Paul interprets filthy lucre as filthy lucker which he believes means luck but really meant money. It shows that Paul does not understand that luck is not money and that statement further shows his misunderstanding between the two concepts. Religious words and phrases are constantly being declared throughout the story. On pages 82 and 83 Basset refers to Paul s insight on winning horses in a religious voice stating It s as if he had it from heaven. On pg.78 after stating he was lucky, Paul said God told him he was lucky. On pg 80 Basset was as serious as a church . All these religious examples show that the rocking horse is symbolized as a pagan idol. The rocking horse is worshipped by Peter, Basset and later by Uncle Oscar who depend on the horse for their demands. The fourth and final example of irony is the phrase repeated by Paul throughout the story, Honour bright . Paul uses this phrase when he is referring to the club or alliance that Basset and Uncle Oscar have formed with him in regards to his rocking horse secret. Paul

  • 11. Social Analysis Of Marxist And Marxist Theory Social Analysis in Marxist Tradition I chose to concentrate on question three for this paper because I found the idea of class analysis and how it affected the Marxist tradition to be a fascinating subject matter. While researching the kinds of social analysis that were used in the formation of Marxist theory I found that Karl Marxand his predecessors concentrated less on the role sociology plays in society and concentrated more on issues of class struggle and how it affects the formation of society. I believe that their focus on class struggle is because it feeds into the idea of reforming society in a more fair and just manner. I found two of Karl Marx s predecessors, Jean Paul Sartre and Lenin to have very differing approaches to Marxist theory. Lenin seemed to concentrate more on the historical aspects and social structure of the Marxist society and how these two aspects of Marxist theory would exist in the formation of a given society. Sartre chose to focus more on the philosophy of dialectical materialism and how one should employee this feature of Marxist theory into a given society. Dialectical materialism focuses on the philosophy of economics. This view of the economic structure of society was developed around the idea that both business owners and their employees would be compensated in a fair and just manner for their work. As I go forward in this paper I will attempt to explain the differences in Sartre s and Lenin s theories of how

A Technopoly (a word postman capitalizes throughout the book) is a society that no longer merely uses technology as a support system but instead is shaped by it. Postman proposes that we become loving resistance fighter(s) who retain the narratives and symbols that once made the United States the hope of the world (p.182). Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In chapter 11 Postman gives examples of people who resist the American Technopoly. An example of a resistance fighter is a person who ignores a poll unless they know the questions asked and why. As Postman introduced in chapter 8 ( Invisible Technologies ), the form of a question can produce many different answers. It may also restrict us from seeing solutions to problems that may become visible through a question worded differently. Postman shares the story of two priests who write the Pope asking if it was allowable to smoke and pray at the same time. One priest phrased the question Is it permissible to smoke while praying? and the response was no because praying should be the focus of ones attention; the other priest asked Is it permissible to pray while smoking? and the response was yes, since it is always appropriate to pray. The opinion of almost any issue is a function of the question asked. In the American Technopoly the opinion poll is a strict yes or no answer to an unexamined question. One is therefore unable to share their knowledge and is easily mislead to answer a question in a certain way. Another example of a resistance fighter is a person who does not allow psychology or any social science to pre empt the language and thought of common sense. This example clearly relates to chapter 9 ( Scientism ), in which Postman expresses his annoyance of the many people who have a strong

There s something else to be noted here though. Not only is King successful in relating himself to these figures, but also his ideas. When referring to his plea for social reform, he calls it the gospel of freedom. King s diction is very profitable to his argument. Automatically when the word gospel is used, one associates it with God (and probably more so do the clergymen). By referring to his ideas of freedom as a gospel, he is adding religious connotations to them. Now, not only is King being associated with the word of God, but also so are his ideas. In doing this, he is alluding to the point that the toleration and acceptance of segregation and slavery etc, goes against the word of God. These things then make men less virtuous and pious. There has been a lot of research and analization of King s writings by other scholars, who also recognize his tactful talents. From the article Martin Luther King, Jr., as Scholar: A Reexamination of His Theological Writings, Clayborne Carson (along with Peter Holloran, Ralph E. Also in this paper I will attempt to discuss some benefits of modern technology as relating to family and communal prosperity. Since the invention of Eli Whitneys cotton gin back in the 1800s men have had their brains full steam ahead on the idea of technology and its advancement into our everyday lives. Leading us up to the present day where we can have a hot cooked neucro meal at the push of the button. Our music no longer has to be cranked by hand, in fact our latest CD players can hold ... In todays world all that seems to be on the popular radio stations is slang and a lot of bleeping. As for TV, I cant seem to get that footage of the World Trade Towers going down. Over and over again they show those clips, not thinking of the thousands of souls floating away at that very same moment. Children see this stuff and think nothing about the chaos. Even their cartoon characters have huge bombs, and kill each other. Now I don t know about you but I never saw Mickey kicking Donald s ass all over the TV when I was growing up. These kinds of shows have led to hours of programmable crap we feed to our children each day. Still the communication benefits are there, but the desensitizing danger and loss of compassion in our children is a real threat. Recently weve developed a new technology, quite a nifty gadget if you ask me. This one is called the computer and started off as one hell of a calculator, designed for speedy math. So computers made math go a bit easier, what else could this little box do? Now that they are in

This idea was expressed by President Obama during his 2011 state of the Union Speech. After saying this, the president said that health care costs need to be reduced, including these two services. Medicareand Medicaidare beneficial to those who receive their services, and the criteria for eligibility currently allow many to qualify for either program. This is most likely the cause of the major deficit that the president spoke of. I personally don t want to strip seniors of their essential benefits, but it is affecting me and my future; with the inevitable raise of taxes, shrinking defense, and squeezing of other domestic spending everything from the FBI to college aid (Samuelson, 2011, para.1). Many seniors count on these services but we as a nation need to make changes to help the future retirees. According to Samuelson, Obama said we must win the future, but our massive federal debt will keep growing because, without restraining spending on retirees, there s no path to a balanced budget (Samuelson, 2011,para.2). This shows true in Medicaid too, The social safety net [Medicaid] for the growing ranks of poor Americans would be further strained (Samuelson,2011, para.2). It would also be helpful to screen people better so they don t abuse this system. If Medicaid would verify assets they can weed out the people who don t deserve these services. This will cut costs by verifying better eligibility, which in turn will be less wasteful. This is all very scary for the future, interest of our country. From 2012 to 2021... • 27. Persuasive Speech On Animal Rights People go to zoos and aquariums and think nothing of the animals. One pays to see the lion do absolutely nothing, and it does this because it knows that this day is no different than every other day. Animals may have given birth recently, yet one sees the baby because it has been taken and sold off to another zoo. Some may argue that zoos and Aquariums are the source to why animals live longer. Although it has been proven, that even while being in captivity, many animals suffer mentally from their fellows death, that is because not all animals in zoos live to old age, or sadly cannot be allowed to (Bostock 65). Furthermore, when a lion s only cellmate passes away, it causes depression. It is the details that visitors aren t bothered to think or even ask about. People do not wonder about the cruelty these animals suffer and their behavior, which is why I strongly stand by change being made to accommodate these animals rights. In the previous paragraph, I mentioned captive animals, as being cellmates. It may seem a bit odd to refer to them as that, and to some it may be cruel. But there is a specific reason to why I did that. Animals aren t decorations, things, or jokes. They are all living things and deserve the same respect we as humans possess. If one was to think about zoos and aquariums as prisons, a lot would make sense. A prison consists of 4 walls where one cannot get out, that is until one s sentence is done. With the amalgamation of incoherent chronology and scattered symbols throughout the novel, he presents his ideas in an absurd manner. His sullen irony mirrors that of society. Rendering mankind s abilities moot, Heller dismantles language and its significance. The very substance of his work the mindless symbols, dark satire, and deconstruction of language defies the established methods of writing. Through a novel approach in representing war, Heller eclipses the standard war novel and by doing so depicts the absurdity of military bureaucracy. The soldier in white represents the perfect soldier and thus the quintessential absurd character. In the first chapter of the novel, the reader is introduced to a soldier, wrapped endlessly in bandages, lying limply on a hospital bed. The name of this soldier is never revealed to the reader, as well as any other attributes. Heller writes, sewn into the bandages over the insides of both elbows were zippered lips through which he was fed clear fluid from a clear jar (19). Open Educational Resources ( Oer ) Introduction Open educational resources (OER) are any resources available at little or no cost that can be used for teaching, learning or research (Educause, 2010). In 2008, South Africa experienced widespread load shedding affecting the domestic and industrial electricity users as the result of the lack of capacity by Eskom, the South African power utility. South Africa is an energy intensive country and as such production and raw materials processing are energy intensive activities. The coal is the major primary energy source and the abundance of coal reserves have partly contributed to the unit price of electricity being amongst the cheapest in the world (Department of Minerals and Energy, 2005). Energy efficiency has become recognised as one of the most effective ways of meeting the demands of sustainable development and has been referred to as the best energy resource. In 2005 the Department of Minerals and Energy published its Energy Efficiency Strategy in support of some of the objectives spelt out in the 1998 White Paper on Energy Policy. The strategy set a national target for energy efficiency improvement of 12% by 2015. South Africa s unprecedented economic growth is one of the factors that have contributed to the country s current power shortage situation. Building a new power station takes a number of years, and until one or more new power stations are operational, the people of South Africa need to conserve energy resources and use them efficiently. Alexander II became the great modernizer of Russia, walking a delicate line between preserving Russia s Slavic identity and enabling its people to benefit from Western advancements. Though Czar Alexander II returned to reactionary rule when an attempt was made to assassinate him in the 1860s, he did turn once more to reform in 1880. He made plans to set up a General Commission which would include representatives from the Zemstva. This would not be a parliament but would be a consultative voice when the Czar required it. But this was an attempt towards a parliamentary government. Superficially, Czar Alexander II seemed to be so liberate from his series of reform. Yet, notwithstanding these measures, it would be wrong, as is sometimes done, to describe Alexander II as a liberal. I don t always agree with a lot of today s parental expectations because some parents try to benefit themselves instead of the kids. Some parents that own companies expect their children to take over one day without ever asking the child s thoughts on the idea. Like all other elves in the North Pole, Hermey is expected to make toys for all the children around the world. There is one problem; Hermey doesn t want to make toys. Hermey wants to be a dentist. After hearing this, the head elf gets very angry at Hermey. Hermey is known as a misfit due to his choice and he later runs away to not have to make toys anymore and to learn more about being a dentist. It is important to always ask your children what they think of certain things and what they want in life instead of just expecting or assuming what they want without their consent. Their bodies have felt factors of strain, and can deal with it a lot better than babies who have not been exposed to stressful events before. However, after a neonate is born, it is critical to prevent stress as much as you can. Babies are constantly being assessed, held, bathed, and fed. Swaddling has been proven to help distress neonates by being wrapped up in a blanket tightly (Buonocore Bellieni, 2007, p. 87). You can imagine the immediate shock neonates encounter once leaving their mother s womb. There they desperately suffer while discovering their new, constricted condition. The researchers used a metal rod that mice can stand on, this rod is then able to rotate forwards or backwards depending on the direction the mouse is walking. The first experiment was to see if the rotorod training would cause growth of dendritic spines. To do this a Two Photon Microscope was used to excite the Yellow Fluorescent Protein labeled dendrites so they could see the branch, now that they could see the dendrites... But when both mice were tested again 5 days after training, the difference in performance was even greater. Showing that sleep deprivation hinders performance. More specifically how those who are chronically sleep deprived have decreased performance similar to those who have not slept at all. The SD mice were chronically sleep deprived and thus more prone to making mistakes. This is similar to the data that was present in class on how the chances of medical errors increase when working re current 24 hour shifts. A problem that I have with this paper is with the imaging of the dendritic branches. In none of the experiments was any imaging done post training to see any immediate effects. This would also enable them to better see the effect of sleep on the mice by isolating any changes that came bout during the initial imaging. What also should have been done is imaging of the dendrites half way through the allotted sleep time. This would allow the researchers to see how immediate sleep effects spine growth to determine if a full a 8 hours are required and how spine formation rates may change as sleep
