Themes Of A Prayer For Owen Meany
A Prayer For Owen Meany A Prayer For Owen Meany is a book about a boy named John
Wheelwright who lives in Gravesend. We follow him in his retelling of his childhood and his best
friend Owen Meany. The title shows that the book is an extended prayer on Owens behalf. There are
two very important themes in the book; appearances and innocence. Both themes pertain to John s
mother, Tabitha Wheelwright. There is a large contrast in the book between Tabitha s wardrobe and
her single red dress which represents a theme of Tabby trying to regain innocence. In the book,
Tabitha Wheelwright owns a bright red dress. No one in Gravesend had ever seen her wear it because
she hated it. In many cultures, red is often associated with passion and sex. Tabitha

Design And Analysis Of Control System Structures For...
This thesis deals with the design and analysis of control system structures for electric drives equipped
with permanent magnet synchronous machines (PMSM) in automotive application. With the increasing
popularity of multi level inverters, the room for improvement of the performance of voltage source
inverters has continuously been tested for various applications. The rapid development of high
switching frequency power electronics in the past decade leads towards wider application of voltage
source inverters in AC power generation. Therefore, this prompts the need for a modulation technique
with less total harmonic distortion, fewer switching losses, and wider linear modulation range. The
present thesis highlights the comparison of the conventional two level inverter and the three level
diode clamped inverters for the application in automotive industry. The thesis highlights the DC link
balancing control which is the most commonly faced problem in case of a three level diode clamped
inverter, with no additional circuit. Modifications of the modulation techniques for the realization of
the DC link balancing control have been proposed. Comparison of the total harmonic distortion of the
line to line voltages at the outputs of the two and three level inverters has been presented for PWM,
SVPWM CB SVPWM techniques. The thesis also deals with the control of the Permanent Magnet
Synchronous Motor drive using Field Oriented Control technique. A PMSM drive system based on

Walt Disney America`s Great American
On December 5, 1901, Elias Disney and Flora Call Disney gave birth to a man who would eventually
change our world by the creation of a little mouse. Walter Elias Disney, who was also known as Walt,
was born in a small town in Chicago, Illinois, by a father who was an Irish Canadian descent, and his
mother who was a German English descent. Walt was one out of five children, four brothers and a
sister. Their names were Herbert Arthur Disney, Raymond Arnold Disney, Roy Oliver Disney, and
Ruth Flora Disney. Walt was the oldest one out of the five. While he attended school, he was
introduced to Walter Pfeiffer, who decided to show Walt vaudeville and the art of making movies.
Walt decided to drop out of high school, at the age of sixteen, to join the army. He was rejected to join
because he was too young of age. He and a friend decided to join the Red Cross, where Walt was an
ambulance driver during World War II. In 1919, Walt moved to Kansas City to begin a career in art,
and worked for the newspaper, as a newspaper artist. He met Ubbe Iwerks, and he and Disney soon
made their own commercial company called, Iwerks Disney Commercial Artists. After he met Ubbe
Iwerks, Disney and Iwerks decided to open a company called Laugh o Grams, which screened short
animated cartoons that became very popular in the area of Kansas City. Disney hired a number of
animators to work in the company. Unfortunately, the studio profits failed, and Disney ended up in
loads of debt, and became

Implementation Of Ict ( Information And Communication...
Implementation of ICT (Information and Communication Technology) with IT services has poised to
bring massive revolutionary changes in the world. The world would not be the same without the
intervention of Information Technology in our day to day work. There is no doubt that implementation
of ICT has got lot of advantages ,right from our banking needs to daily shopping ,from our travel
needs to social networking ,everything has been revolutionized by Information Technology (William
H. Dutton, Malcolm Peltu,1996). Today web has become hot bed for providing reliable platform for
various web applications such as ecommerce, messaging and social networking. However as we know
nothing can be completely perfect, and there might be presence of snag defects in an entity .Same is
true in this case as well, implementation of ICT has definitely created a wide array of advantages for
the users but at the same time it has given birth to large number of threats, which a user faces all the
time while he is on the web. This is more critical when it comes to financial transactions, which takes
place on the web. These threats are not limited to any particular individual, but are prevalent in large
organizations as well. In the next few sections we will discuss these threats in detail and will also
discuss their structure. Different Type of Threats and their Structures There are various types of treats,
which are in existence today .We will have a close look at them along with their

The First World War I, A Brief History With Documents By...
During World War I, there were two main powers fighting against each other, the allied powers and
the central. The allied powers consisted of; France, Britain, Russia, Italy, and the United States. The
central powers consisted of; Germany, Austria Hungary, and the Ottoman Empire. The war all started
because new Germany wanted to become a global power, but Britain was ahead already, and there
couldn t be two global powers at once. Both Germany and Britain saw war as an opportunity; to
countries, war could have been a positive thing. However, neither of the countries anticipated how
long and severe the war would be. The book The First World War, a Brief History with Documents

Documents 13, 15, 17, and 18 are all letters written by British soldiers to their families back at home.
To start off, communication between the soldiers and their loved ones was closely being monitored
during the war. According to the book, those who were left behind was carefully managed (Grayzel
65). For example, document 18 is a letter written by a British soldier who explains how horrible they
are treating them while in combat. Because of all the negative things he talked about in his letter
during his time at war the letter was never sent out. Back at home during this time, the countries were
trying to convince their men to sign up for the war and have the people at home help the war in any
way. War posters like documents 10, 11, 12 and 13 all depict this image. During the wartime, they
wanted as much support from the people at home as possible. As men, you were classified weak, and
not a real man if you did not sign up for war. In document 9, it is a British recruitment poster. The
propaganda poster simply implies that the women/ citizens of Britain are asking for their men to go off
and protect their nation. If you were not able to join the war they wanted you to donate your money,
time, and create weapons to assist the war. Without the support of the people at home, they would not

My Childhood Journey
I spent most of my childhood traveling the world. What a way to spend a childhood tell you, I am the
person I am today because of the places I have been, the opportunities I have had, and the people I
have met. I can not even remember the abundant number of times I have been woken up at four am to
leave for the airport. Dragging my sleepy feet behind me and dumping myself into the car. I remember
waiting in the jet way and, the deep inhale I would take when I d first step foot on the aircraft. Taking
in a big breath of the airplane air that would always burn through my nose and make me slightly
nauseous. Over the years I have learned to hold my breath or to breathe out of my mouth until I got to
my seat. These are the same memories I relive every time I begin a new adventure. As a kid I thought
being pulled out of school for a week to go to Belize or Grand Turk was normal; or that every other
weekend every kid went to New York for the day to have lunch and do some light shopping then fly
home that night. It was not until one day with my twin sister sitting in the seat next to me that I
realized we were not like most kids. The flight attendant had bent down in between my sister and I as
she quietly asked us if our parents had died. At twelve years old I was shocked and left speechless.
She went on to ask us why we were in school and it flourished into a whole conversation about our
trip. This was the same plane ride where I had one of the most interesting conversations to

Protective Services is a state ran agency, and is required to offer services to the elderly population. At
the agency, clients are referral from several different issues. Our agency investigated claims of abuse,
neglect, and exploitation of elder or disabled citizens. The greatest social issue that face many Adult
Protective Services caseworkers, is physical and self neglect. A lot of the elderly population face many
challenges throughout their later life. Old age in American society presents the individual with a

At Adult Protective Services we use social learning theory when dealing with our clients. Caseworkers
along with clients create services plans. Service plans address the needed and resources to help clients
establish long term stabilization. Interventions fall into a few large categories of activity such as
providing or arranging services towards a long term care plan to reduce to reduce risk and increase
safety, counseling the individual and family about resource choices and ways to alleviate specifically
identified issues leading to mistreatment, or removing the victim of mistreatment from the harmful
situation. Service plans were design to stabilize clients, so they would not become another APS case,
but a lot of the clients will call in an allegation every 2 months. According to St. James (2001) social
services programs, specifically adult protection, hold the largest claim in addressing needs arising
from elder mistreatment . Adult Protection Protective services also use the social systems theory when
providing services to clients. Repeat allegation, sometimes will require case worker conducting an
intensive background check on clients. Caseworkers at APS uses a Recidivism Assessment that uses
information on a client for the past 3 years. In all APS investigation, the caseworkers speaks with all

Narrative Essay
Anger Management
I hear some people say that they got so angry they lost control and didn t know what they were doing.
I often wondered what that must be like. I, being a very passive person, have never lost control when I
ve become angered. I ve always had total awareness of my situation. In the movie Anger Management
, Jack Nicholson so nicely stated: Your temper is the one thing you can t get rid of by loosing it I ve
probably come close at times, but never gone over the edge to uncontrollable rage. I remember there
was one time it came close.

WHAT! WHAT WAS THAT! WHAT DID YOU SAY TO ME?
Normally I would have ignored him. I always let things slide. I don t like getting all worked up over
something stupid.
I don t know what came over me. He must have pushed all the right buttons, because all of a sudden, I
didn t seem so hot anymore. The aches and pains were gone and theirs this tremendous burst of energy

I SAID, BLOW IT OUT YOU RE A$#
With no delay, he replied:

To my surprise, he found even more buttons to push. Now my whole body is on fire. Lasers beams are

Essay about Ray Charles
Ray Charles
Ray Charles was a revolutionary pianist and a soul singer who helped shape the sound of rhythm and
blues. He brought a soulful sound to everything from country music to pop standards to God Bless
America. His birth name was Ray Charles Robinson, but he shortened it when he entered show
business to avoid confusion with the famous boxer Sugar Ray Robinson. I chose Ray Charles as the
topic for my paper after seeing the movie Ray. After viewing this film I realized that there was a lot of
interesting information about Ray Charles that I had never heard about. Therefore, the focus of my
paper is to learn who Ray Charles really was and to discuss his life and achievements.

During this time he started recording and achieved his first hit song in 1951. The song was titled Baby,
Let Me Hold Your Hand. When Charles first began singing many felt as though his sound and piano
playing resembled those of Nat King Cole and Charles Brown. Ray was quoted saying, When I started
to sing like myself as opposed to imitating Nat Cole, which I had done for a while when I started
singing like Ray Charles, it had this spiritual and churchy, this religious or gospel sound. It had this
holiness and preachy tone to it. It was very controversial. I got a lot of criticism for it. (San Jose
Mercury News, 1994) Charles soon became more innovative when he realized that his first recordings
were only skillful imitations of his heroes. After joining Atlantic Records, Charles s sound became
more and more original and found breaking. He took many tunes from gospel music and put them to
secular lyrics performed in front of a jazz lineup playing R B with exceptionally tight arrangements.
He sometimes even added a country music feel to some of his arrangements for example in his version
of Hank Snow s I m Moving On.
The Middle Years Do it right or don t do it at all. That comes from my mom. If there s something I
want to do, I m one of those people that won t be satisfied until I get it done. If I m trying to sing
something and I can t get it, I m going to keep at it until I get it where I want it.

Abortion Is An Intentional Termination Of A Pregnancy
Abortion is an intentional termination of a pregnancy during the first twenty eight weeks. The debate
of whether or not abortion should be legalized has been a key political topic for years. Based upon a
survey done by the Pew Research Center, as of September 22, 2014 a majority of Americans (55%)
express the opinion that abortion should be legal in all or most cases; four in ten say it should be
illegal in all or most cases. (Abortion, n.p.). Abortion should be legalized based upon the mothers
medical circumstances, for the fact that abortion is not a threat against the mental health of patients,
and to the rights of privacy and bodily integrity of females must be kept. Moreover the religious views
of others should not be taken as a factor against a person s decision for abortion. The legalization of
abortion is a strongly debated topic among our political parties. The Republican Party, unlike the
Democratic Party, is against abortion even though impending mothers may require an abortion to save
their own lives. Abortions, as reported by the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologist, are
fundamentally needed in many situations to save the lives of woman since ...pregnancy is not a risk
free life event. (Painter, n.p.). There are multiple medical situations in which a pregnancy must be
terminated due to the mother s life being at risk such as a cyst(s) on the fetus, preeclampsia, incest, the
mother is bodily young, or it is a high risk miscarriage. Moreover, a

Essay about Amazing Grace
Amazing Grace is not a good movie, it is a great movie. Films on History can be lengthy and tedious,
but that sure is not the case in this fascinating movie about the famous abolitionist William
Wilberforce, who was responsible for steering anti slave trade legislation through the British
parliament. Contrary to what its title suggests, Amazing Grace isn t really about the inauguration of
the Christian hymn. Set in the 18th century England, it focuses on William s political career to abolish
the slave trade by arguing against it on the floor of the House of Commons, which placed him at odds
with some of the most powerful men of the time. William is a motivated man with one purpose;
endeavoring to terminate slavery in the empire. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At this point, he is debating whether he should go into the ministry and abandon a political career
altogether. His friend William Pitt tries to convince him not to, and tells Wilberforce of his
magnificent plan to become prime minister and that he wants Wilberforce there with him. Pitt, still
trying to convince Wilberforce to stay in Parliament brings a group of people over to Wilberforce s
house for dinner. While eating, one of the men places a set of chains on the table and begins to explain
how slaves are transported in ships. A former slave, Oloudah Equiano, explains the process and shows
Wilberforce the branding mark on his chest he got when he was sold. They tell Wilberforce that they
need someone to help them to oppose the trade.
John Newton, an elderly priest, served as captain of a slave ship who realized what he was doing was
wrong. He then wrote a song to God to free him from the sin of his wrong doing in his correlation
with the slave trade; this song was called Amazing Grace. Newton acts as indefinite motivation for
Wilberforce to continue his anti slave movement.
Parliament becomes impossible to persuade. There are so many excuses set fourth by the Parliament
explaining what effects the lack of trade will cause to the people of the city, as well as many
industries. Even with the research Wilberforce gathers and presents to the Parliament, including an
autobiography written by his friend/former slave Equiano, but still not one thing happens.

Descriptive Essay About Snow White
Snow White. Casper. Why do these characters sound familiar to me? Well, these have been the
nicknames I have acquired through the years. I describe myself as bright white. I never realized how
white I was until people felt the dire need to tell me. As a young child, I never really thought it was a
super colossal deal either. But as we age, we learn new things that perhaps we did not recognize
before. People say that some things in life, you just never forget. This indeed is very true. Words can
scar. Several summers ago I was at a friend s house playing volleyball with a few people. Does it
bother you that you are so white? asked a girl who I did not even know. I dropped the ball and stared
at her with a blank expression. All that was running through my mind was, Does it bother you that you
are so obnoxious?
But of course this thought was not vocalized. I simply kept playing volleyball. But soon after I
established questions. Does it bother me? Should it bother me? I went home that day and glared at
myself in the mirror. Then it struck me, I was whiter than most people were. This one stranger s
comment made me question myself. I began to over analyze and as time passed by my self esteem
plummeted. I thought that maybe if I had been born with sun kissed skin, my family and friends would
not judge me. Then, I began wearing makeup to not look as sickly as people made me out to be. I
developed a sudden yearning to go down to the shore all the time to try to get some type of color.
But then one day, I studied my mom s face. Her smooth, glowing, and porcelain skin made me
wonder. I was curious as how a woman at her age could look ten years younger. My mom shared the
specific ingredient to maintaining beautiful skin. She explained that staying out of the sun was the key
to wrinkle free skin as an adult. Hundreds of thoughts ran through my mind. She also stated that as a
teenager, she experienced all the same reactions. In fact, one crude person asked if she had lived in a
bomb shelter, meaning that it looked as if she never saw the sun. The irony of it all was that these
people with the so called society accepted complexions who told me to lay in the sun, actually had
imperfections on their skin from

Scott Sanders Staying Put Analysis
Scott Russell Sanders s Staying Put: Making a Home in a Restless World counters the
orthodoxy of a nation rooted in ideas. In response to an essay by Salman Rushdie, a migrant of
his native India, Sanders articulates the ceaseless nomadic thinking of Americans as a romantic,
heedless migration reaping no bounty. Sanders s writing challenges the American fanaticism of
migration wherein uprooting brings intolerance and thereby not only responds to a text but
creates literary value himself.
A definitive facet of Sanders s writing is his series, often paired with repeating
adjectives, pronouns, conjunctions, and prepositions. This combination of repetition and listing
creates a rhythm when addressing Rushdie s opposing philosophy: ... Show more content on

It also introduces multiple logical

its ugly siblings racism, religious sectarianism, or class snobbery). With his audience in mind,

Sanders weaves playful, respectful sarcasm together with listing to introduce a differing belief of
geographical homelands, further emphasized by his parentheses. Applying multiple rhetorical
techniques is something vital when counteracting a respected writer such as Rushdie; likewise,
Sanders employs similar appeal to his audience in the closing lines of the passage: By setting in,

Creating Homogeneous Ability Grouping
Background
Research into ability grouping has raised questions about the process of creating homogeneous ability
groups. Evidence suggests it is not uncommon for students to be placed in an inappropriate group for
their ability level (Ireson Hallam 1999; MacIntyre Ireson 2002, as cited in Muijs Dunne, 2010). Muijs
and Dunne (2010) uncovered during their research that middle bands and even the high band
contained students with low test scores. The findings of Muijs and Dunne (2010) suggest the process
in place to group students according to their ability is unreliable. Hallinan (2003) reported the process
teachers were taking was to group students by standardised test scores, prior achievement and the
recommendations of teachers and counselors. The benefit of homogeneous ability grouping is the
opportunity to provide students with differentiated instruction based on their ability level. The result
of heterogeneous ability groups created through the grouping process is one of many concerns. ...

Students in the low band can suffer self esteem issues, as well as negative impacts on their attitude and
motivation (Suknandan Lee as cited in Smith Sutherland, 2006). The negative impacts are greatly felt
by schools in low socioeconomic areas. These schools had higher enrolment numbers, with a larger
portion of minority students and a greater range of abilities (Nomi, 2009). The negative impacts on
students in the low band are likely to be due to the label placed on them. Lanzo (2011) conducted a
comparison research and discovered at risk students benefitted from being in heterogeneous ability
groups rather than homogeneous ability

Perotin Is Hailed As A Kind Of Mozart Of His Time
Pérotin is hailed as a sort of Mozart of his time. He was a scholarly musician and musical innovator .
Pérotin is called by many different names: Perotinus his Latin Name and Perotinus Magnus Pérotin
the Great ; and even optimus discantor , or great composer of discant. According to Hussman, Pérotin
was a court composer for Notre Dame, but his connection to Notre Dame is not entirely confirmed. It
is because of an account by the English traveler Anonymous IV and letters to a Bishop that it is
accepted that Pérotin was associated with Notre Dame. Whether he wrote specifically for Notre Dame
or not, Pérotin wrote magnificent music that has been preserved for several centuries to this day .
The life of Pérotin is uncertain and full of speculation. Different scholars have very diverse ideas of
Pérotin s life. Tischler believed that Pérotin was born sometime between 1155 and 1160. He also
stated that he was a pupil of Leonin, the composer of the Magnus liber. Pérotin is believed to have to
have been a better organum composer the Leonin himself and even revised the Magnus liber at the end
of the 12th century between 1180 and 1190 . In revising the Magnus liber, Pérotin composed and
inserted his own clausula and puncta, such as Alleluya Nativitas into the Magnus liber. The works of
Pérotin are known to be beautiful and thoughtfully voiced with colorful textural harmonies. Sometime
after revising the Magnus liber, Pérotin began composing three voice organum. Later in his life,

The Use of Sensory Imagery in The Rime of the Ancient...
In The Rime of the Ancient Mariner, Samuel Coleridge writes of a sailor bringing a tale to life as he
speaks to a wedding guest. An ancient Mariner tells of his brutal journey through the Pacific Ocean to
the South Pole. Coleridge suffers from loneliness, because of his lifelong need for love and livelihood;
similarly, during the Mariner s tale, his loneliness shows when he becomes alone at sea, because of the
loss of his crew. Having a disastrous dependence to opium and laudanum, Coleridge, in partnership
with Wordsworth, writes this complicated, difficult to understand, yet appealing poem, which becomes
the first poem in the 1798 edition of Lyrical Ballads. The Mariner s frame of mind flip flops
throughout the literary ballad, a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Originally aiming to land somewhere on the equator, the Mariner s ship lands in the South Pole,
because of a strong breeze from a storm blast; the Mariner states in his tale that the wind is tyrannous
and strong. Though suffering a dreadful drought, the Mariner receives the blessing of the cool, wet
rain as it pours down. As the Mariner takes in the rain, he begins to think of his crew, who are all dead.
The drop of the shipmates, the cracking of ice, and the roaring of the wind all appeal to the sense of
hearing, while the Mariner rants his tale. As the ancient Mariner s crew a;; die, he fails to hear a groan
as they drop one by one; however, the sailor hears the thump of the bodies as, separately, they collide
with the deck of the ship. The ice cracks, growls, roars, and howls as the crew travel through it;
Coleridge writes that the ice is like noises in a swound. And soon I hear a roaring wind, states the
Mariner during his tale; Coleridge also writes that the upper air burst into life, which causes the crew
to hear a strong breeze. Using the sense of feeling, Coleridge writes about the drop of the shipmates,
the cracking of the ice, and the roaring of the wind.
Using the senses of seeing, feeling, and hearing in The Rise of the Ancient Mariner, Samuel Coleridge
demonstrates the use of many sensory details. The appearance of the Ancient Mariner, the Nightmare

Uniforms in School
The standard issue school uniform of khaki, navy and white once exclusive to the private parochial
institutions is becoming a common requirement in public schools across the nation. This trend that
was first suggested for public schools in 1980 by then D. C. mayor, Marion Barry, to help diminish the
social stigma of low income students has grown significantly in both numbers and reasons (Lawrence,
2013). In 2010, it was reported by the National Center for Education Statistics, that nearly 19% of the
nation s public schools now require a mandated school uniform (Campbell, n.d.). While there are quite
a number of opponents to such a policy in the public schools, the benefits are numerous. Students
following a school uniform policy are less likely to focus on clothing as a means for determining
status) and may experience less stress from being judged by the type or cost of clothing they wear
(Campbell, n.d.; Cascio, n.d.). All too often society is judged and defined by the clothing of an
individual from its style to cost to fit. By removing this outward factor as a labeling status, students
are placed on a more even playing field leaving competitions for the sports fields rather than the
classroom runway. Less classroom completion in fashion allows more time to focus on studies. School
uniforms also helps to create a sense of community and belonging, much as a member of a sports team
that wears a uniform might feel (Buesing, n.d.). A sense of belonging as a member of a

The cost in this specific case was great and even forced the farm owners to file for bankruptcy before
it was over. The outbreak led to three documented press conferences. Aboutmoney.com estimates a
press conference costing seven hundred and fifty dollars an hour. Some of the PR firms require a
retainer for large or ongoing cases (Public Relations: Time, Money and Words, N.D). There were two
other companies that used their fruit and they recalled as well. Jensen farms had to replace the bad
fruit on top of refund to original cost so that came to 10,778 pounds of cantaloupe that had to be paid
for. In 2011 the price per pound of cantaloupe was fifty six cents (Cantaloupe, N.D). To replace all the
fruit would add up to $6,041.28. They also recalled their fruit from stores but I could not find how
many pounds that was, but that would be an additional cost. Out of the 146 total infections 143 of the

Muriel Cooper Research Paper
Born in 1925 in Boston, Massachusetts, Muriel Cooper was a graphic design pioneer who anticipated
the digital revolution. She has long been considered to be quite revolutionary as the realm of design
shifted into the digital age. Muriel was the longtime art director of the MIT Press, implementing a
Bauhaus oriented design style into its numerous publications. In 1944, she received her BA from Ohio
state and a BS in education from Massachusetts College of Art, in 1951 (Brinkerhoff 63). Soon after
graduating, Cooper moved to New York City for a chance to find a position in advertising. Here, she

Economic Policy Change in Soviet Union From 1941 to 1986...
Economic Policy Change in Soviet Union From 1941 to 1986 The period 1941 1986 saw little change
in the Russian economy, although attempts were made at reform by Khrushchev, for example, with his
Virgin Lands scheme. I believe that economic policy did not change between the years 1941 1986 but
the change was often quickly reversed and change was not carried out to a great enough extent to have
any significant bearing on the development of the Russian economy. Russia was almost destroyed by
the efforts needed to sustain a war. Even though the first, second and third Five Year Plans had been

The need for labour and troops was intense and between 1941 and 1944 the gulag population
decreased by two fifths. Able bodied men were conscripted from the collectives and women were left
to care for the farms. Grain production fell from 95 million tons in 1940 to 30 million tons in 1942.
This was a huge drop, and famine was common, particularly in the Ukraine and Siberia, where loss of
life was most severe. The more relaxed attitude of Stalin during the wars years had nurtured a belief
that life would be easier and less repressed after the war. However, this proved not to be the case. The
Fourth Five Year Plan was intended to restore Russia s pre war reputation as an industrial power.
Industrial production recovered quickly, mainly through the use of over 2 million slave labourers. The
rigid centralised economy imposed by Stalin was useful in this instance as it became easier to organise
workers and factories. The Fifth Five Year Plan was concentrated slightly more on the consumer
industries, helping to improve living conditions in Russia. The relaxation of Stalinist policy meant that
although rigid central control was retained, Party power was weakened in the countryside. When
Khrushchev came to power in 1953, he inherited the rigid centralised economy symbolic with the
Stalinist era. In 1956

Non compete Employment Contract Student Name Course Tutor Date Non compete Employment
Contract A non compete agreement is a type of contract where one party (in most cases an employee)
agrees not to offer his or her services to any other employer or business that is in competition to the
other party (the employer). For many years now, state laws have continued to recognize the validity
and enforceability of agreements not to compete that are ancillary to employment. However, not all
states recognize non compete agreements. It is required that such agreements be reasonably necessary
for them to be enforceable (Miehe, 2002). These covenants should ensure an additional safeguard to
all legitimate business and their interests. The limitation on duration and geography should be
reasonable. Such agreements, when properly drafted and executed, provide the employer with an
effective way to protect customer goodwill, proprietary business information, and the time and
resources it has invested in the training of employees. Richard who is an actor had entered into a non
compete agreement with his employer who goes by the name Mark, the producer. Both of them are
based in the state of Ohio where the agreement was signed. According to the agreement terms, Mark
had engaged Richard to perform the role of a peasant farmer in a film. Elements of a Non compete

British Culture And Differences Between British And...
While I have been living in the UK for two months, I have noticed many differences between British
culture and Chinese culture, especially in an aspect of social etiquette.
Britain and China are both countries that have the long history and splendid civilisations, have been
known for their ceremonies and etiquette through the ages. However, as the typical representative of
the Western culture and the Eastern culture, it can be something unique and distinct of social etiquette
between this two countries, in the aspects of meeting and greeting, visiting a home, gift giving, table
manners, compliment and gratitude.
The British seem to be reserved when they first meet someone. The handshake is a standard way of
greeting in Britain, even for children, and there are no issues over gender. (10 British Etiquette and
Customs you should learn, 2017) Chinese people also shake hands upon meeting, merely, in the
formal or official occasion, and simultaneously lower their eyes slightly as a sign of respect. People
only nod or salute instead of shaking hands as a greeting to friends and family. In Britain, sometimes
people will embrace or kiss the other person if they are family or a very close friend. (10 British
Etiquette and Customs you should learn, 2017) In China, people seem to be more conservative
because they rarely treat others with hug or kiss unless they are the lovers. Both in Britain and China,
use people s family names is appropriate when you address an unfamiliar person.

My synopsis amongst three containers of waters Tap Water, Dasani®, and Fiji®, tap water has
unknown chemicals due to pollutions and oil spills. Dasani and Fiji is a company based product
should be purified from contamination. Dasani would probably have a small percentage of pollution
due to the inexpensiveness cost, and Fiji would display no contamination as to the expensiveness cost
of the product. I believe that the cost plays a significant part in companies product for purified bottled
water. I hypothesize that once all the waters tested, the tap water will turn out to be the most
contaminated out of Dasani®, and Fiji®, while the Dasani will have lowest levels of contaminants, in
addition, Fiji will have no levels of contamination leaving it to be the cleanest.

Falklands War As soon as the war ended people wondered why Britain had won and why Argentina
had lost. The conclusion made by the Americans is that it was that shifts in tactics, or weather may
have changed the result of the war, but it would seem that Britain s training and leadership did decide
the outcome. It is clear that the 25,000 men of the task force that sailed from Portsmouth in April 1982
were one of the most experianced, and certainly best trained forces that Britain had ever sent to war.

The first option was possible for the Argentines, and as the task force closed into the firing zone it
appeared as if the Argentine Navy was moving against them with Exocet firing frigates. The loss of
the General Belgrano effectively eliminated this threat, and the frigates were withdrawn and never
closed again. This left two options, to sink the carriers, submarines or the Exocet. Both of which had
been attempted previously. The Argentines had four submarines at the outbreak of the war but had lost
one when South Georgia was recaptured in April. The remaining subs faced having to get close
enough to within torpedo range of a fleet, whose objective was anti submarine, and had the best
training and weapons to defend against this type of threat. Still, the Argentine submarines did sail and
apparently launched torpedoes, although they did no harm to the British aircraft carriers. The
Argentine submarine threat, although providing a constant problem to British generals, were destined
to remain only a cause of thought to Admiral Woodward. The launching of an exocet was attempted
on several occasions but the problem of the radar guided missiles meant

Don Freeman s Corduroy
The children s book, Corduroy, written and illustrated by Don Freeman, tells the story of a teddy bear,
named Corduroy. Corduroy no longer wants to sit on the shelf in the department, he wants a new
home. One day, a girl named, Lisa, comes along and wants to buy Corduroy, but her mother tells her
no. Her mother says no because she does not want to spend anymore money and that the teddy bear is
missing a button. The two major themes of this book is friendship and hard work. Lisa took one look
at Corduroy and knew she wanted to take him home. Unfortunately, her mother would not let her
because she did not have any money and Corduroy was missing a button. Corduroy ventures all over
the store in search of his button. He is dedicated to finding his button, but he is not the only dedicated
one. Lisa goes home and empties her piggy bank and her mother lets her bring Corduroy home. The
theme of hard work is shown in Corduroy s determination to find his button and Lisa s determination
to bring Corduroy home. The theme of friendship is between Corduroy and Lisa. They may not know
each other, but Lisa still wants to make Corduroy her friend. You must be a friend, said Corduroy, I ve

Advantages And Disadvantages Of FDMA
Abstract: In this paper, we propose a design for multiple antenna full duplex (FD) eNodeB (eNB) and
user equipment (UE) transceiver, based on recent progress in the area of self interference cancellation
(SIC). For FD communication, .i.e., simultaneous in band uplink and downlink operation, same
subcarriers are allocated to UE in both uplink and downlink. Hence, contrary to traditional LTE, we
propose using single carrier frequency division multiple accesses (SC FDMA) for downlink along
with the conventional method of using it for uplink. Taking advantage of channel reciprocity in the
case of FD communication and multiple antennas at eNB, use of singular value decomposition (SVD)
in the downlink allows multiple user (MU) to operate ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Hollow Hope By Gerald Rosenberg
The Hollow Hope by Gerald Rosenberg is based on one research question. That question is: Can the
Court bring about significant social change? In examining this question Rosenberg presents two
different views of the Court. The dynamic court view believes that the court is an excellent catalyst for
social change while the constrained court view believe that there are constraints in place that prevent
the court from making significant change. The constrained court believes that it is only when these
constraints are lifted and certain conditions met that the Court can have an effect on social change. To
explore his question Rosenberg looks into different court cases in which believers of the dynamic
court view think had the most impact on ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One thing that he does not make so clear is what he constitutes as significant social change, and how
he will measure what that exactly.
In reading the book Rosenberg does seem to give a hint of bias toward the constrained court as being
more correct, as it appears he spends less of his time arguing for the dynamic court view. However it
may not be bias that is perceived, but just that through his investigation he has found that the
constrained court view is a more accurate representation. There are some parts in the book where
Rosenberg almost asks too much of the Court for the dynamic court view, which makes it appear that
he is setting up the dynamic court argument to fail. As Feeley (1992) mentions in his review of the
first edition of The Hollow Hope, Rosenberg makes his arguments as a lawyer would, which by
definition sets up his opponent to fail and as his conclusion as the most obvious choice. With this in
mind one could conclude that Rosenberg sets up the dynamic court view to fail on purpose to make
his point more clear. There are some points throughout the book where there is a correlation for the
dynamic court that it means there is nothing there, whereas when there is a correlation for the
constrained court he uses that as a point to prove his conclusions.
The sources that Rosenberg used are dependable sources, and he presents the information that the
sources provide in a

Shakespeare School Room Summary
A Review of Shakespeare s School Room Shakespeare s Schoolroom, by Lynn Enterline, explores,
ana lyzes, and discusses the methods used in schools during Shake speare s time that created the
learning environment that shaped his character and therefore his work. The least of these influences
would be the major focus on Latin studies and translation that re sulted in the ancient Roman culture
and mythology themes that appear in many of his poems and plays. Specific works will have their
origins explained by describing particular teaching tactics. We learn how these teaching methods,
combined with the social ex pectations of English boys, starting at a young age, influenced both their
behavior and their moral beliefs. The question of how a man such as Shakespeare came to be is
answered. Chapters one and two discuss the role of the teacher and just how central he was in the
development of his pupils. During Shakespeare s childhood, teachers were considered to be the most
important adults in a young boy s life even more important than his parents. Teachers were expected to
set the perfect example so that their students would grow to be proper English gentlemen. A great deal
of pressure was placed on school masters. Their appear ance, mannerisms, and speech had to be
perfect. Teachers were strong, imposing, and strict with their students as it was their job to mould
impressionable youths into morally upstanding adults. Schoolmasters required their students to

Essay on Objective Objectivism in The Fountainhead by Ayn...
Objectivism is defined as an ethical theory that moral good is objectively (based on facts rather than
feelings or opinions) real or that moral precepts are objectively valid. (Webster). Demonstrated by Ayn
Rand in the book, The Fountainhead, objectivism seems to most, to be morally wrong, and socially
impractical, despite seeming to be a stress free way of life. In The Fountainhead, Howard Roark does
not see relationships as necessary, but as a means to an end. For America to be purely objectivist
would tear the country apart, in the sense that normal social relationships would no longer exist, but
hatred and racism would become obsolete. A democratic government would be unable to succeed
because no one would look at issues from ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Under the standard of objectivism these values cease to exist. Not that people would be selfish, but
they would cease to be selfless, and the less fortunate of society would lack the small amount of
charity that was keeping them alive. Men have been taught that the highest virtue is not to achieve, but
to give. Yet one cannot give that which has not been created. Creation comes before distribution or
there will be nothing to distribute. The need of the creator comes before the need of any possible
beneficiary. Yet we are taught to admire the second hander who dispenses gifts he has not produced
above the man who made the gifts possible. We praise an act of charity. We shrug at an act of
achievement. (Rand 680). In an objectivist s mind there s a question of Why should I? or What s in it
for me? that would annihilate any sense of charity people possess. Objectivism is faulty in the grand
scheme of things, simply because people need one another to survive. People are forced to interact
with one another on a day to day basis, so from that perspective objectivism is simply not practical.
However, from an opposite viewpoint objectivism has many positive attributes, such as forcing people
to take responsibility for their own success or failure. In an objectivist country, programs like welfare,
disability compensation, and healthcare would not exist, so families would be responsible to take care
of themselves rather than looking to the government to solve all of

growing up in Indonesia and eventually living in the middle of Chicago; his upbringing is nothing of

Similarities Between Tiananmen Square And Fahrenheit 451
Martin Luther King Jr. once said that Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things
that matter. Such a thought is common among people that want to spark change. To keep themselves
alive, they rebel. Silence is the equivalent of death. It is death to hope for a better future. In China,
many students shared this common idea. Beginning in the spring of 1989, Beijing s students gathered
in a famous square known as Tiananmen Square. They were protesting their communist government.
There was unemployment, inflation, corruption of the government, and restrictions on the future of the
students. They wished for a life of democracy where they could have a dialogue with the government.
They refused to let silence kill them. Millions of students gathered, protested, paraded, held meetings,
staged sit ins, and hunger strikes. At first, the government let the protests continue. When it was out of
control, the students were pushed to leave. When the students refused, chaos broke loose. Many ...

consequences ensued. The reasoning behind the consequence was that this demonstration caused
instability even though part of the protest was requesting government stability. It is clear that in the

  • 2. Themes Of A Prayer For Owen Meany A Prayer For Owen Meany A Prayer For Owen Meany is a book about a boy named John Wheelwright who lives in Gravesend. We follow him in his retelling of his childhood and his best friend Owen Meany. The title shows that the book is an extended prayer on Owens behalf. There are two very important themes in the book; appearances and innocence. Both themes pertain to John s mother, Tabitha Wheelwright. There is a large contrast in the book between Tabitha s wardrobe and her single red dress which represents a theme of Tabby trying to regain innocence. In the book, Tabitha Wheelwright owns a bright red dress. No one in Gravesend had ever seen her wear it because she hated it. In many cultures, red is often associated with passion and sex. • 3. Design And Analysis Of Control System Structures For... This thesis deals with the design and analysis of control system structures for electric drives equipped with permanent magnet synchronous machines (PMSM) in automotive application. With the increasing popularity of multi level inverters, the room for improvement of the performance of voltage source inverters has continuously been tested for various applications. The rapid development of high switching frequency power electronics in the past decade leads towards wider application of voltage source inverters in AC power generation. Therefore, this prompts the need for a modulation technique with less total harmonic distortion, fewer switching losses, and wider linear modulation range. The present thesis highlights the comparison of the conventional two level inverter and the three level diode clamped inverters for the application in automotive industry. The thesis highlights the DC link balancing control which is the most commonly faced problem in case of a three level diode clamped inverter, with no additional circuit. Modifications of the modulation techniques for the realization of the DC link balancing control have been proposed. Comparison of the total harmonic distortion of the line to line voltages at the outputs of the two and three level inverters has been presented for PWM, SVPWM CB SVPWM techniques. The thesis also deals with the control of the Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor drive using Field Oriented Control technique. A PMSM drive system based on Field ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 8. My Childhood Journey I spent most of my childhood traveling the world. What a way to spend a childhood tell you, I am the person I am today because of the places I have been, the opportunities I have had, and the people I have met. I can not even remember the abundant number of times I have been woken up at four am to leave for the airport. Dragging my sleepy feet behind me and dumping myself into the car. I remember waiting in the jet way and, the deep inhale I would take when I d first step foot on the aircraft. Taking in a big breath of the airplane air that would always burn through my nose and make me slightly nauseous. Over the years I have learned to hold my breath or to breathe out of my mouth until I got to my seat. These are the same memories I relive every time I begin a new adventure. As a kid I thought being pulled out of school for a week to go to Belize or Grand Turk was normal; or that every other weekend every kid went to New York for the day to have lunch and do some light shopping then fly home that night. It was not until one day with my twin sister sitting in the seat next to me that I realized we were not like most kids. The flight attendant had bent down in between my sister and I as she quietly asked us if our parents had died. At twelve years old I was shocked and left speechless. She went on to ask us why we were in school and it flourished into a whole conversation about our trip. This was the same plane ride where I had one of the most interesting conversations to ... It had this holiness and preachy tone to it. It was very controversial. I got a lot of criticism for it. After joining Atlantic Records, Charles s sound became more and more original and found breaking. Films on History can be lengthy and tedious, but that sure is not the case in this fascinating movie about the famous abolitionist William Wilberforce, who was responsible for steering anti slave trade legislation through the British parliament. Contrary to what its title suggests, Amazing Grace isn t really about the inauguration of the Christian hymn. Set in the 18th century England, it focuses on William s political career to abolish the slave trade by arguing against it on the floor of the House of Commons, which placed him at odds with some of the most powerful men of the time. • 14. Descriptive Essay About Snow White Snow White. Casper. Why do these characters sound familiar to me? Well, these have been the nicknames I have acquired through the years. I describe myself as bright white. I never realized how white I was until people felt the dire need to tell me. As a young child, I never really thought it was a super colossal deal either. But as we age, we learn new things that perhaps we did not recognize before. People say that some things in life, you just never forget. This indeed is very true. Words can scar. Several summers ago I was at a friend s house playing volleyball with a few people. Does it bother you that you are so white? asked a girl who I did not even know. I dropped the ball and stared at her with a blank expression. All that was running through my mind was, Does it bother you that you are so obnoxious? But of course this thought was not vocalized. I simply kept playing volleyball. But soon after I established questions. Does it bother me? Should it bother me? I went home that day and glared at myself in the mirror. Then it struck me, I was whiter than most people were. This one stranger s comment made me question myself. I began to over analyze and as time passed by my self esteem plummeted. I thought that maybe if I had been born with sun kissed skin, my family and friends would not judge me. Then, I began wearing makeup to not look as sickly as people made me out to be. I developed a sudden yearning to go down to the shore all the time to try to get some type of color. But then one day, I studied my mom s face. Her smooth, glowing, and porcelain skin made me wonder. I was curious as how a woman at her age could look ten years younger. My mom shared the specific ingredient to maintaining beautiful skin. She explained that staying out of the sun was the key to wrinkle free skin as an adult. Hundreds of thoughts ran through my mind. She also stated that as a teenager, she experienced all the same reactions. In fact, one crude person asked if she had lived in a bomb shelter, meaning that it looked as if she never saw the sun. In response to an essay by Salman Rushdie, a migrant of his native India, Sanders articulates the ceaseless nomadic thinking of Americans as a romantic, heedless migration reaping no bounty. Sanders s writing challenges the American fanaticism of migration wherein uprooting brings intolerance and thereby not only responds to a text but creates literary value himself. A definitive facet of Sanders s writing is his series, often paired with repeating adjectives, pronouns, conjunctions, and prepositions. Evidence suggests it is not uncommon for students to be placed in an inappropriate group for their ability level (Ireson Hallam 1999; MacIntyre Ireson 2002, as cited in Muijs Dunne, 2010). Muijs and Dunne (2010) uncovered during their research that middle bands and even the high band contained students with low test scores. The findings of Muijs and Dunne (2010) suggest the process in place to group students according to their ability is unreliable. Hallinan (2003) reported the process teachers were taking was to group students by standardised test scores, prior achievement and the recommendations of teachers and counselors. This trend that was first suggested for public schools in 1980 by then D. C. mayor, Marion Barry, to help diminish the social stigma of low income students has grown significantly in both numbers and reasons (Lawrence, 2013). In 2010, it was reported by the National Center for Education Statistics, that nearly 19% of the nation s public schools now require a mandated school uniform (Campbell, n.d.). While there are quite a number of opponents to such a policy in the public schools, the benefits are numerous. Students following a school uniform policy are less likely to focus on clothing as a means for determining status) and may experience less stress from being judged by the type or cost of clothing they wear (Campbell, n.d.; Cascio, n.d.). All too often society is judged and defined by the clothing of an individual from its style to cost to fit. By removing this outward factor as a labeling status, students are placed on a more even playing field leaving competitions for the sports fields rather than the classroom runway. After that day, not only did I learn how much brakes and tires wear, but I acknowledged the importance of checking the essential components of one s vehicle and ensuring its safe driving condition. This is similar as when one checks a patient s physiology before surgery ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 30. Essay on Falklands War Falklands War As soon as the war ended people wondered why Britain had won and why Argentina had lost. The conclusion made by the Americans is that it was that shifts in tactics, or weather may have changed the result of the war, but it would seem that Britain s training and leadership did decide the outcome. It is clear that the 25,000 men of the task force that sailed from Portsmouth in April 1982 were one of the most experianced, and certainly best trained forces that Britain had ever sent to war. Everyone who was sent to the Falkland s, from sailors to fighter pilots knew what his job was and therefore carried it out in the correct way that he was trained to do. Aswell as this the Brits ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The first option was possible for the Argentines, and as the task force closed into the firing zone it appeared as if the Argentine Navy was moving against them with Exocet firing frigates. The loss of the General Belgrano effectively eliminated this threat, and the frigates were withdrawn and never closed again. This left two options, to sink the carriers, submarines or the Exocet. Both of which had been attempted previously. The Argentines had four submarines at the outbreak of the war but had lost one when South Georgia was recaptured in April. The remaining subs faced having to get close enough to within torpedo range of a fleet, whose objective was anti submarine, and had the best training and weapons to defend against this type of threat. Still, the Argentine submarines did sail and apparently launched torpedoes, although they did no harm to the British aircraft carriers. The Argentine submarine threat, although providing a constant problem to British generals, were destined to remain only a cause of thought to Admiral Woodward. The launching of an exocet was attempted on several occasions but the problem of the radar guided missiles meant ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 31. Don Freeman s Corduroy The children s book, Corduroy, written and illustrated by Don Freeman, tells the story of a teddy bear, named Corduroy. Corduroy no longer wants to sit on the shelf in the department, he wants a new home. One day, a girl named, Lisa, comes along and wants to buy Corduroy, but her mother tells her no. Her mother says no because she does not want to spend anymore money and that the teddy bear is missing a button. The two major themes of this book is friendship and hard work. Lisa took one look at Corduroy and knew she wanted to take him home. Unfortunately, her mother would not let her because she did not have any money and Corduroy was missing a button. Corduroy ventures all over the store in search of his button. He is dedicated to finding his button, but he is not the only dedicated one. Lisa goes home and empties her piggy bank and her mother lets her bring Corduroy home. The theme of hard work is shown in Corduroy s determination to find his button and Lisa s determination to bring Corduroy home. The theme of friendship is between Corduroy and Lisa. They may not know each other, but Lisa still wants to make Corduroy her friend. You must be a friend, said Corduroy, I ve always wanted a friend. Friendship is about accepting each other for who you are. This book shows that Lisa accepts ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Throughout his journey, Freeman uses unique comparisons to grab the reader s attention. For example, he compares the escalators to mountains and the house section of the store to a palace. • 32. Advantages And Disadvantages Of FDMA Abstract: In this paper, we propose a design for multiple antenna full duplex (FD) eNodeB (eNB) and user equipment (UE) transceiver, based on recent progress in the area of self interference cancellation (SIC). For FD communication, .i.e., simultaneous in band uplink and downlink operation, same subcarriers are allocated to UE in both uplink and downlink. Hence, contrary to traditional LTE, we propose using single carrier frequency division multiple accesses (SC FDMA) for downlink along with the conventional method of using it for uplink. Taking advantage of channel reciprocity in the case of FD communication and multiple antennas at eNB, use of singular value decomposition (SVD) in the downlink allows multiple user (MU) to operate ... • 33. The Hollow Hope By Gerald Rosenberg The Hollow Hope by Gerald Rosenberg is based on one research question. That question is: Can the Court bring about significant social change? In examining this question Rosenberg presents two different views of the Court. The dynamic court view believes that the court is an excellent catalyst for social change while the constrained court view believe that there are constraints in place that prevent the court from making significant change. The constrained court believes that it is only when these constraints are lifted and certain conditions met that the Court can have an effect on social change. To explore his question Rosenberg looks into different court cases in which believers of the dynamic court view think had the most impact on ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One thing that he does not make so clear is what he constitutes as significant social change, and how he will measure what that exactly. In reading the book Rosenberg does seem to give a hint of bias toward the constrained court as being more correct, as it appears he spends less of his time arguing for the dynamic court view. However it may not be bias that is perceived, but just that through his investigation he has found that the constrained court view is a more accurate representation. There are some parts in the book where Rosenberg almost asks too much of the Court for the dynamic court view, which makes it appear that he is setting up the dynamic court argument to fail. As Feeley (1992) mentions in his review of the first edition of The Hollow Hope, Rosenberg makes his arguments as a lawyer would, which by definition sets up his opponent to fail and as his conclusion as the most obvious choice. With this in mind one could conclude that Rosenberg sets up the dynamic court view to fail on purpose to make his point more clear. There are some points throughout the book where there is a correlation for the dynamic court that it means there is nothing there, whereas when there is a correlation for the constrained court he uses that as a point to prove his conclusions. The sources that Rosenberg used are dependable sources, and he presents the information that the sources provide in a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 34. Shakespeare School Room Summary A Review of Shakespeare s School Room Shakespeare s Schoolroom, by Lynn Enterline, explores, ana lyzes, and discusses the methods used in schools during Shake speare s time that created the learning environment that shaped his character and therefore his work. The least of these influences would be the major focus on Latin studies and translation that re sulted in the ancient Roman culture and mythology themes that appear in many of his poems and plays. Specific works will have their origins explained by describing particular teaching tactics. We learn how these teaching methods, combined with the social ex pectations of English boys, starting at a young age, influenced both their behavior and their moral beliefs. The question of how a man such as Shakespeare came to be is answered. Chapters one and two discuss the role of the teacher and just how central he was in the development of his pupils. During Shakespeare s childhood, teachers were considered to be the most important adults in a young boy s life even more important than his parents. Teachers were expected to set the perfect example so that their students would grow to be proper English gentlemen. A great deal of pressure was placed on school masters. Their appear ance, mannerisms, and speech had to be perfect. Teachers were strong, imposing, and strict with their students as it was their job to mould impressionable youths into morally upstanding adults. Schoolmasters required their students to memorize ... • 35. Essay on Objective Objectivism in The Fountainhead by Ayn... Objectivism is defined as an ethical theory that moral good is objectively (based on facts rather than feelings or opinions) real or that moral precepts are objectively valid. (Webster). Demonstrated by Ayn Rand in the book, The Fountainhead, objectivism seems to most, to be morally wrong, and socially impractical, despite seeming to be a stress free way of life. In The Fountainhead, Howard Roark does not see relationships as necessary, but as a means to an end. For America to be purely objectivist would tear the country apart, in the sense that normal social relationships would no longer exist, but hatred and racism would become obsolete. A democratic government would be unable to succeed because no one would look at issues from ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Under the standard of objectivism these values cease to exist. Not that people would be selfish, but they would cease to be selfless, and the less fortunate of society would lack the small amount of charity that was keeping them alive. Men have been taught that the highest virtue is not to achieve, but to give. Yet one cannot give that which has not been created. Creation comes before distribution or there will be nothing to distribute. The need of the creator comes before the need of any possible beneficiary. Yet we are taught to admire the second hander who dispenses gifts he has not produced above the man who made the gifts possible. We praise an act of charity. We shrug at an act of achievement. (Rand 680). In an objectivist s mind there s a question of Why should I? or What s in it for me? that would annihilate any sense of charity people possess. Objectivism is faulty in the grand scheme of things, simply because people need one another to survive. People are forced to interact with one another on a day to day basis, so from that perspective objectivism is simply not practical. However, from an opposite viewpoint objectivism has many positive attributes, such as forcing people to take responsibility for their own success or failure. In an objectivist country, programs like welfare, disability compensation, and healthcare would not exist, so families would be responsible to take care of themselves rather than looking to the government to solve all of ... • 37. Similarities Between Tiananmen Square And Fahrenheit 451 Martin Luther King Jr. once said that Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter. Such a thought is common among people that want to spark change. To keep themselves alive, they rebel. Silence is the equivalent of death. It is death to hope for a better future. In China, many students shared this common idea. Beginning in the spring of 1989, Beijing s students gathered in a famous square known as Tiananmen Square. They were protesting their communist government. There was unemployment, inflation, corruption of the government, and restrictions on the future of the students. They wished for a life of democracy where they could have a dialogue with the government. They refused to let silence kill them. Millions of students gathered, protested, paraded, held meetings, staged sit ins, and hunger strikes. At first, the government let the protests continue. When it was out of control, the students were pushed to leave. When the students refused, chaos broke loose. Many ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This shows that after being advised to halt the rebellion, consequences ensued. The reasoning behind the consequence was that this demonstration caused instability even though part of the protest was requesting government stability.
