Evaluation Of A Research Methodology
Overview of the Research Methodology
This research methodology is an action plan because the researcher is trying to create a
improvement plan in her own school. This will be working with at risk and special education
students in the math classroom and ways to better serve those students using differentiated
instruction and technology to help lessen the educational gaps those students have and to raise
MAP scores.
Proposed Research Design
The proposed research plan will include two classrooms of at risk and special education students
math classes. Incorporating technology and researched based instruction to help increase MAP
scores and student understanding. The instruments used will be pre and post tests, MAP scores for
the year, informal daily bell ringer and teacher responses. This unit will take one quarter to
complete and will help in looking at further instruction in math for these students in years to come.
Because of the small sampling and that it is based in one school an action methodology is the best
fit.
Sampling Techniques
The sampling pool includes two sections of Math 1.5, consisting of 18 students in one class and
13 in the other. All participating students were placed in Math 1.5 by either teacher placement,
MAP scores or IEP requirements. Of of the 31 students, 18 are boys and 13 are girls. The school
district has a high population of Native Americans so culture is an issue in this class. Nine of the
students came from the local reservation

Postman s Theory Of Identity Theft Essay
One of Postman s theories was based on technological change as a trade off. According to this
theory, Postman believed that there were advantages and disadvantages to every new technology
introduced. There is an imbalance on whether a user s enthusiasm to share news outweigh their
privacy values. Gross and Acquisti s proposition to information sharing states that, users may be
pragmatically publishing personal information because the benefits they expect from public
disclosure surpass its perceived costs (10). To those who have become victims of identity theft
through social media, the disadvantages might be more obvious than to the general public. Social
networks pressurize users for information that consequently causes users to disregard privacy
moralities. Further disadvantages discovered by Social Networking ProCon include government
intrusions, decreasing employee productivity, promoting crimes, and facilitating cyberbullying.
Not all users on social networks will become victims of identity theft, but the statistics are alarming.
Even with 54% of social media profiles targeted for identity theft, 93% of user s still share relevant
information such as their full names and those of families. How social media identity theft typically
occurs is through unconscious sharing. Social networks encourage and often require ... Show more

My Most Significant Childhood Experience Research Paper
My most significant childhood experience is when I came to the United States for the first
time. I was born and raised in Cali, Colombia for 12 years. For most of the people outside the
country, who is struggling financially, coming to this country is a dream full of opportunities. It
was a long process to come here, since my biological father was a homeless person, and I needed
permission from him to come here. Thankfully after two years of dealing with lawyers, my sister

The Three Different Causes Of Stress In Everyday Life
Stress is the term used to describe the physical, emotional, cognitive, and behavioral responses to
events that are appraised as threatening or challenging (white 422). There are many different
signs of stress that people display such as Insecurity, loss of concentration, loss of memory,
fatigue, difficulty sleeping, loss of appetite, etc. But what causes stress? Researcher Lazarus
studied that everyday life is an important source of stress, he developed the daily hassles scale,
so things that range from divorce and death to even Christmas is thought as a contributor to
stress. These three different stressors in everyday life include; being in daily hassles, for
example, having inclement weather. The second stressor is life changes such as losing your
job, and finally, the third source of stress is major life events or catastrophes such as losing your
house in a fire. But, not only are there three different stressors, there are also three different
conflicts. Conflicts is the feeling pole between two opposing desires motives or goals that can
create stress. The three basic types of conflicts include; approach approach where you must decide
between two equally appealing choices. Another type is the approach avoidance conflict which is
the most difficult because there s one goal with both an undesirable and desirable aspect to it. The
last type of conflict is the avoidance avoidance conflict where you must decide between two
unappealing choices. Too much stress can have a

Food Deserts- The link between income and access Essay
Food Insecurity and food accessibility are major problems not only in rural areas but also low
income urban areas throughout the United States. The term food desert or an area with limited
or no access to healthy, affordable and nutritious food was coined during a U.K. Study into food
accessibility for those in the lowest income neighborhoods which contained no major grocery
store and had the lowest rate of car ownership. This problem has come across the pond and we ve
seen many major grocery retailers flee from cities and move to the more profitable suburbs, what s
worse is as grocery stores consolidate they leave many neighborhoods under served by convenience
stores or fast food outlets. The prevalence of more processed, unhealthy... Show more content on

One significant effect of lack of supermarket access is its negative impact on diet. If a significant
portion of the people on public assistance cannot afford to eat healthfully and furthermore do not
have the ability or the nutritional education necessary to live a healthy lifestyle this has immediate
effects on the growing epidemics of obesity, heart disease and other lifestyle related illnesses and
on the health system that is already at capacity.
Three key elements are described in Sparks piece: proximity, variety and competition. Proximity
is important because research shows low income people are less likely to own an automobile.
Variety is important because research into retail choice suggests people value variety and do not
always shop at the supermarket that is closest to home (Handy,1996). Finally, competition is an
accepted price control mechanism, which is important when evaluating access for low income
populations. (Sparks). These are described as the most important factors because they will play
biggest role in where a person chooses to shop for food given the choice.
Not all the experts agree however that the prevalence of fast food and the limited access of fresh
food is the driving factor in the rise of obesity. A study conducted by the RAND corporation a non
profit federally funded research center recently released a study that found that among adults the
neighborhood food environment had little or no relation to the adult subjects

Social Problems Within The Australian Society
A Social Analysis Homelessness There are a growing number of social problems existing within
the Australian society and unfortunately, research does not need to prove this. All it takes is a stroll
down the main street of some suburbs to realise the extent of social problems within society.
Homelessness is a rising trend that is affecting people of all demographics. Homelessness is more
than just a simple disadvantage; with usually many underpinning factors which contribute to it,
such as domestic violence, financial stress, mental illness and drug use. Homelessness is an issue
around the globe, however when focusing on the issue within an Australian context it stems back
quite a long way. In the 1970 s, Australia rediscovered... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
(Johnson and Chamberlain, 2008) These factors impact directly on people within society and lead
to extensive financial strain, which ultimately leaves them as a high risk of homelessness. In
addition to this, it is believed that domestic violence is a primary cause for homelessness
particularly amongst women and children. (Ultius, 2017) A whole issue within itself is the
accessibility to social housing for vulnerable Australians, with many families needing to seek short
term or crisis accommodation due to the lack of availabilities within the social housing sector, and
for those who are able to obtain housing within the private sector often fall victim to private
landlords as they display forms of power when rent falls into arears. These people then become
victims within the private market, often becoming blacklisted by landlords and their agents. It is
believed that private renters who attempt to advocate for their rights are often locked out of their
premises due to disruptive behaviour. (Sharam and Hulse, 2014) There is also a considerable
amount of government pressure that damages any person s attempt at improving their financial
situation. An

My mind is a lot stronger than my body and I can t lie and say that it doesn t bother my state of
mind on most days. I have to fight against the pain that I feel everyday and try not to complain
about it unless it s completely unbearable at that moment. It can take a good thirty minutes to an
hour to get out of bed when I wake up because my limbs might be temporarily paralyzed or my
heart is tachycardic and there s nothing I can do about it. But once I get myself together after I
wake up, I say a prayer, think positive thoughts and go on about my day!
Because my days are so unpredictable, I literally have to take one day at a time. Planning upcoming
days can seem like an impossible feat because I never know how my body will respond. Most
bloggers are great at planning their blog schedules ahead of time and sticking to it. To be honest, I
started to develop blogger envy because I would read posts about how well other bloggers could
stick to their schedule and because of their consistency, their following grew exponentially. I was
struggling with growing my following on social networks because I couldn t be as consistent as

We have come so far, given our history of oppression and prejudice. As a leading power in our
continent we have a responsibility to lead our continent in the right direction and help when another
country is going through a struggle. Given our history of human rights violations we should be
standing up for any other human rights violations within our continent. The idea of human
security challenges the idea of state centred security, it shifts the focus from the state to the
individual. Security of the people (Acharya, A 2001). We can focus on a number of types of
security for the individual. Economic security, the idea that a person has a stable income either
from a job or some kind of public support net. Political security being safeguarding people with
their basic human rights as well as freedom of the people from government attempt to control
ideas and information distribution. Personal security is the defence from violence either from the
state or non state actors (Acharya, A 2001). If we look at Assadistan all of these types of human
security is being let down and not upheld. We as South Africans have a responsibility to help our
brothers when a feeling of insecurity and unsafe take over feeling of security and comfort.
Intervening is our responsibility to help both the Hadi tribe from the clear tribal oppression and to

Collectivism, like individualism, has two extremes ranging from willing cooperation at one end to
a grudging acceptance at the other (Farnham D, 1993, p36 7) It is important to understand that no
company is strictly individualist or collectivist and the links between the two employee relations
are not incompatible with each other. Overall, BA has the collectivist approach because large
emphasis is on the group. One such example is the nurturing of cabin crew. Families of staff are
created to work the same shift patterns. This was pursued to encourage mutual support, make cabin
crew feel comfortable about their working environment, and as a result, facilitate the production of
emotional labour (I Grugulis and A Wilkinson, 2001, p13).

As for a particular type of Management style in practice, this is difficult to say, as there is overlap

the unitary approach in the sense that the different departments consist of teams of people working
together towards common aims and there s a presence of strong leadership to create loyalty. Strong
emphasis is placed on employee training, which BA takes very seriously in order to create

How Did The Articles Of Confederation Lead To Change
There were many problems with the Articles of Confederation that led to its replacement by the
U.S. Constitution. The states had more power than the federal government, leaving the federal
government was weak. The federal government could not levy taxes, and the Articles gave major
responsibilities such as negotiating treaties, coining money, and declaring war to state governments.
Each state had one vote despite its population, and this angered many of the larger states who felt
under represented. Finally, the Articles lacked a judicial system, and required a unanimous vote to
pass any legislature, which often proved difficult to achieve. The turning point that led to a demand
for change was Shay s Rebellion. Daniel Shay along with other farmers

Emerging Therapies For Sickle Cell Anemia
Emerging therapies for sickle cell anemia
Cesi Salmeron

Abstract
Sickle cell anemia (SCA) is an inherited disorder that produces sickle or crescent shape red blood
cells. Thus, the mutated erythrocytes result in an inadequate supply of oxygen being transported
throughout the body. Research shows that among those affected the most with the sickle cell gene
are African Americans. In recent years, we have seen a decrease in mortality and morbidity
rates as a result of new approaches to treating the disease. The more we understand the
pathophysiology of sickle cell anemia, the more we learn about developing therapies for genetic
disorders such as SCA. In this paper, we will briefly discuss what sickle cell anemia is and possible
treatments for people with sickle cell anemia such as gene therapy and new drugs.
What is sickle cell anemia?
Sickle cell anemia (SCA) is an autosomal recessive genetic disorder. This missense mutation is
characterized by mutant beta globin subunits that tend to stick together (Cummings, 2014). As a
result, abnormally shaped red blood cells are produced by this disorder. The erythrocytes are
sickle or crescent shaped. Sickling occurs under hypoxic conditions, in which there is insufficient
supply of oxygen delivered throughout the body (Sun Xia, 2013). In order to inherit this
monogenic disease, one copy of the sickle globin gene from each parent must be passed on to the
offspring (Ashley Koch,

Challenges Base Applications In our base image we currently include into the image several
base applications, these are both baked into the actual image file and installed after the OS
utilizing a Task Sequence. With WICD we found it difficult and time consuming to utilize this
toolset to try and include all of our base applications into the provisioning pack process, due the
nature of the wrapper, applications having prompts that cannot be answered, and the nature of
these applications frequently changing a different solution is needed. What we found was that
instead of trying to include all of the base applications in the provisioning pack in and of itself
we only include the SCCM client and then we created an SCCM Task Sequence that can be
executed after the other tasks of the provisioning packs are completed and a Tech signs into the
device. If we wish to try and approach this by making the provisioning pack further inclusive it
will take a large time investment, both upfront and continually as the version of these applications
change every 3 6 months. Naming One of the steps in our imaging process today is to apply a
standard naming convention based on the chassis, OS, OS architecture, site code, and the last X of
the serial for randomization. Due to the complex nature of this convention it is not compatible with
the provisioning pack process. The naming convention was put into place to allow IT resources to

Emerson Education Summary
Because education is one of the most important aspects of a child s life, it is necessary to make
sure you build the right kind of learning environment. In Education by Ralph Waldo Emerson, he
discusses how the ideal form of learning should come from a classroom environment in which the
child is enthusiastic to learn while also being challenged. Emerson believes that self educationis the
most proficient way to create academic success. Because he advocated for more independent
learning, Emerson also supported smaller class sizes so education could become more personal. His
idea of a personal, yet rigorous, learning environment should be implemented throughout
Appoquinimink School District
Emerson s form of education should be adopted by our school because students will enjoy
learning more. If children were given the opportunity to learn about what they thought to be
interesting or important, they would be willing to put more effort and passion into their classes.
Emerson writes on page 194, If you have a taste which you have suppressed because it is not
shared by those about you, tell them that. Despite how schools suppress people s interests, Emerson
believes children should still feel passionate enough to share their ideas. From my experience, our
school has a rigid curriculum which leaves little room for students to explore their own interests.
Making learning more receptive to the interests of the students would not only make it more
personal and enjoyable, but it

Legalizing Tattooing in South Carolina Essay
What is tattooing?
Tattooing is the art of marking the skin with indelible patterns, pictures, or legends by making
pricks and inserting colored ink. The word itself has its origins in the South Pacific. The art had
been referred to as pricking, scarring, or staining until explorer Captain James Cook encountered the
indigenous peoples of Tahiti. (Wilkinson 6)
Tattooing is not just a recent fad. Tattooing has been around for a very long time. The current first
proven incident of a tattoo dates back 4,000 years B.C. a traveler was found in Italy near Austria,
preserved in the permafrost of a glacier. Carbon dating and arte facts found near him suggest that

The station later aired the film, landing White in jail under Section 16 17 700 of the S.C. Code of
Laws, which makes it illegal for someone to tattoo another person. The only exception allowed for
in the statute, which is listed in the Offenses Against Public Policy section of the code, is a
licensed doctor, and only if the doctor believes it is necessary when performing cosmetic or
reconstructive surgery.
Tattoos have become increasingly popular recently according to American Academy of
Dermatology stating In fact, the number of tattoo studios has grown from 300 to over 4,000
nationally in the past 20 years. From tribal art to cartoon pictures, more and more people are getting
decorated with ink. There are mixed feelings about whether or not South Carolina and Oklahoma
should legalize tattooing. Most arguments against legalizing tattooing are irrelevant. South Carolina
could gain much by legalizing the art form and therefore should.
Some people that are against tattooing argue that it is a permanent marking. They argue that if
someone changes their mind about their tattoo, they are still stuck with it forever. All too many
teens make the decision to be tattooed or pierced based on misinformation. Others simply lack
important knowledge about the procedures (Reybold 38). Since most humans change their

Irony In Shakespeare s Romeo And Juliet
Romeo and Juliet are two names that are constantly associated with love. Love isn t the half of the
story of Romeo and Juliet, it is moreso a story of conflict and secrecy. The reason for the conflict
is the two wealthy families of Capulet and Montague. The conflict between the two houses leads to
the secrecy involved with Romeo and Juliet s Relationship. This can be seen in the physical
conflicts between the houses, how they view each other, and also the conflicts within the houses
that happen because of other conflicts. The story of Romeo and Juliet starts with a fight between

Archetypes In The Odyssey And O Brother Where Art Thou
Among the plethora of archetypes that present themselves in Homer s The Odyssey and the film

who has the gift of foresight, yet lacks the gift of physical sight. In the ancient epic poem, the hero

This woman of surpassing beauty provides an emotional test for the hero along his journey. This
role is filled by Calypso in the epic, a gorgeous nymph whose love for Odysseus makes him her
captive for seven years. Ulysses s trek to his homeland is significantly altered by the appearance
of the Sirens down at the river, three women who try to capture the men for the bounty through
physical attraction. The Sirens of Homer s work are a challenge along the hero s travels, but they
do not play such a profound role like Calypso. The nymph s love for Odysseus was true, her heart
fixated on the hero that landed upon her isle. The Sirens of Ulysses s tale used sexual temptation to
drag the men in, their intentions driven by greed. Both Odysseus and Ulysses face these women as
their sensuous powers delay them from reaching their treasured goal: home. The presence of these

Police Shootings And Police Brutality
The topic that has my interest would be police shooting and how much it has gotten worse over
the years. Thiers a lot of questions asked when it comes to police shootings/police brutality. The
first thing that the media always brings up is did the person deserve to be shot or was the person
shooting at the police, in which case two valid questions but the fact the cops shoot to kill it
appears in many police shooting they will usually shoot at the body of the person, they aren t
likely to shoot at your legs or a place that won t automatically cause death. The reason this is a
concern is because I believe the African Americancommunity is targeted more than any other
ethnic group in America, they are more searched than any other ethnic group it causes fear with
the community and this also makes the police job harder, because now they will be more trigger
happy to shoot someone in a slight move they make. A big media case from last year was shown
an African American man helping his patience that left his care, while this was going on the man
was laying down with his hands up telling the cops I am just trying to help my patience within 2
minutes the policeman shoots at the unarmed man injuring him, but lucky the man survived. The
strange part of this shooting was that the police was 20 foot from the man that they shot, which
also makes you wonder how is it possible that a man can have his arm raised clearly a video of the
incident showing the man with his hands up still was

Reducing The Homeless Population Of San Diego Essay
Reducing the Homeless Population in San Diego County While the homeless population in the
United States has declined over the past five years it is still much higher then it needs to be.
Currently San Diego County has the fifth highest homeless population in the United States. The
homeless population of San Diego County is mostly located in and around the downtown and
beach areas of the county however it has started to spread into more areas of the county to include
the San Diego River area of Santee. While there is a portion of the homeless population that
choose to be homeless a large number of them are homeless due to falling on hard times. While it
would be hard to get every homeless person off the streets there are something s that can be done to
help them. One way to solve this problem is to repurpose some of the currently vacant government
building and unused county owned land throughout the county and convert them into homeless
shelters. While this solution may reduce the homeless population we first need to look at who and
why people are homeless in this country. Understanding What Homeless Is When we start talking
about the homeless population there are some key terms that we need to understand. The first of
those terms is sheltered homeless people. The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban
Development (2014) defines sheltered homeless people as individuals who are staying in
emergency shelters, transitional housing programs or safe havens (pg. 2). These would

The Viability Of Carbon Capture And Storage

The Viability of Carbon Capture and Storage From UK Power Stations
The UK s Climate Change Act and participation in the Paris Agreement, has been put into place
to ensure the UK plays its part in reducing the emission of greenhouse gasses into our
environment. The UK, in particular, has committed to reducing its emissions to 80% of 1990
levels by 2050 and must adhere to strict self set Carbon Budgets until 2030. In order to meet
targets set by the Paris agreement, by 2070 there must be no anthropogenic CO2 input, thus we
need to actively remove CO2 from the atmosphere, a more common term for this is negative
emissions (James R, 2017). There are several ways of going about this, in this essay we will be ...

In this essay, three main issues are brought forward and analysed in order to make a conclusion on
the viability of carbon capture for UK power stations, these issues are; Cost, CCS Technologies,
and Storage.
The aim of this paragraph is to analyse the costs involved with the implementation of CCS
technologies in UK power plants. It is estimated that in the UK, CCS could cost every household
up to 10% more per year for electricity (Haszeldine, R.2009) however this cost is predicted to
reduce the necessary costs of CO2 removal in 2050 by a factor of 10, which will likely save the
country more money in the long run. The greatest cost to the UK when discussing the
implementation of CCS technology in UK power stations is carbon capture.

Critical Review of Lcc vs Legacy Airlines
Airline management Critical Review of LCC vs Legacy Carrier
Introduction The IATA,International Air Transport Association has forecast that global airline
industry profits will reach $2.5 billion this year, as it recovers from the $9.4 billion loss in 2009
when the US and Europe battled their worst recession in decades. The country s leading low cost
air carriers (LCCs) IndiGo, SpiceJet and GoAir are set to nearly double their fleet capacity over
the next 17 months. This addition by LCCs is set to increase the number of low cost seats in the
domestic network to 80 per cent of the total. Currently, Indian air carriers offer 115,000 domestic
seats in a day and 70 per cent of this is low cost.
Similarly in a single decade, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
France has no major LCC of its own, for reasons which include the dominance of Ryanair, its
high speed TGV rail network. The reaction of legacy carriers on short haul routes started with
indifference until the gradual realisation that the threat was here to stay. In 1998, BA set up its
own low cost subsidiary, Go, to compete with Ryanair. But in 2001 BA sold its fledgling to a
management buy out, only for easyJet to purchase Go a year later for a much higher price. KLM
s Buzz was also relatively short lived, launched in 2000 and sold three years later to Ryanair.
As legacy carriers have had to adopt new business models to cope with LCCs, the same is
happening to tour operators in markets such as Germany and the UK, where they play a
dominant role. Having saturated most city to city routes, LCCs are now targeting resorts and
eating into tour operators market share. Full service airlines throughout Europe are being forced
to react to the growing power of LCCs by adapting their business models. Iberia, for example,
makes in flight food an optional extra but plans a 17% reduction in domestic capacity for 2006 08.
SAS Scandinavian Airlines operates its own LCC, Snowflake, as does
LOT Polish Airlines with Centralwings.
Let us see in brief what are LCC and Legacy carriers.

The Fear Of The Nightmares
The amber glow of an outside street light filtered in through the narrow windows, bathing the pool
in a surreal irradiation. The yellow light danced over the still water, creating abstract patterns on
the white tiled walls. Most would have found the serene ambiance calming, but for Tom, it was a
vision straight out of one of his nightmares. Over time, he d developed a fearof water, and while
others experienced the terror of falling when trapped in the REM cycle of sleep, in his dreams,
he was always drowning. His phobia was deep seated, and he no longer went swimming. But

Tom s hesitancy down to his over cautious nature, and removing his most valuable items, his jacket,

Tom s muscled tensed, his concern curling his fingers into fists. He suffered through several long,
agonizing moments, his heart hammering against his chest, waiting, watching, counting down the
seconds in his mind until Booker s head bobbed to the surface. When he caught sight of his
friend s dark hair, he exhaled a weighty breath. But his relief was short lived. As Booker effortlessly
swam to the side of the pool, the cold hand of fear gripped his heart, and he gulped down his rising
panic. His lower lip pulled between his teeth as he tried to focus his mind. Tyrell had given him
two choices, neither ideal, leaving him caught between a rock and a hard place. Both options were

Essay Correctional Theory
INTRODUCTION Rehabilitation is firmly entrenched in the history of corrections in the United
States. Penitentiaries, for example were formed in 1820 with the belief that offenders could be
morally reformed (Cullen, Jonson, 2012, pp. 27 28). In 1870). The National Congress on
Penitentiary and Reformatory Discipline documented the merits of rehabilitation (Wines, 1871, p.
457). However, by the end of the 1960s, the United States had experienced several years of
discontent within its prisonsystems which resulted in a national call for prison reform and the
development of a disillusionment with rehabilitation (Martinson, 1974, p. 22). In 1966, Robert
Martinson was hired to evaluate the effectiveness of rehabilitation, the result of which... Show more

By utilizing correctional policies and practices that are not built upon evidence based theories, we
risk not only imposing ineffective treatments on offenders, we risk increasing an offender s
criminality (p. 3). This is especially disconcerting when one considers the potential harm to which
we are exposing society upon the offender s release (Latessa, Cullen, Gendreau, 2002, p. 44).
Evidence based corrections would implement rehabilitation policies, as research shows it to be the
greatest opportunity to significantly impact crime as it addresses what is known to both cause and
reduce criminality (Cullen, Jonson, 2012, p. 11). Inherent in the ideals of effective rehabilitation
are the identification of criminogenic risk factors (i.e., correlates of criminality) such as aggression,
and the establishment of individualized evidence based treatments which address them (p. 30). In
other words, offenders offend for different reasons and until we target those reasons with
empirically sound treatments and interventions, we cannot hope for successful rehabilitation. Worse
yet, by utilizing one size fits all treatments, we risk exposing them to criminogenic risk factors,
further exacerbating their criminal propensities (p. 12). Ultimately, the importance of evidence
based corrections cannot be overstated for it is through careful evaluation of empirically sound
data that we learn how to maximize the effectiveness and efficiency of the correctional system as
well as the

Essay about History of D-Day
History of D Day
During the 1930 s, isolationism and the depression swept through the
United States. But before the fall of France in 1940, the United States was
starting to pull away from being neutral, which they claimed at the beginning of
the European war.
Americans and the British would hold conversations between themselves
known as the ABC talks. It was there that they both targeted Germany as their
prime enemy. Even though there was tension in the Pacific in 1941, American
leaders had agreed that any war that was going to occur between Japan and the
United States had to be secondary. Our prime target was Germany, and that s
what we would focus on defeating.
Roosevelt soon concluded that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If the defeat of Germany was the objective, then the
mission was to attack at the heart of German power as early and as forcefully as
possible.
With this, careful consideration of Army mobilization and training, military
construction, naval and merchant shipbuilding revealed that the Army could
expect to go over to the offensive no earlier than July 1, 1943. Achieving the
necessary military conditions for attack, though simple to state, was more an
uncertain proposition. Wedemeyer suggested in his plan that no invasion of
Europe could succeed until the navies defeated the Axis fleets and secured the
Atlantic lines of communication.
The Allies however, had managed to take control of the air. They would
bomb Germany on a regular basis, this way Germany could keep down on their
production of war materials, and disrupt their economy.
Before the U.S had officially entered the war, plans existed for the defeat
of Germany. The plan heavily relied on an invasion of the continent of Europe,
in order to strike the heart of Germany. The U.S. sought to weaken their military
buildup, and heighten ours in Britain.
For a period of time, there was much contemplation of attacking Germany
from the Mediterranean, where the British had already been succeeding in
defeating the Germans. Americans had to reject the idea of the Mediterranean
approach due to the fact it was impossible to concentrate full Allied

Migrant Workers Research Paper
Committee: Social, Humanitarian and Cultural Committee (SOCHUM)
Topic: Promoting the human rights of migrant workers
Country: Mexico
All persons, regardless of their nationality, race, legal or other status, are entitled to fundamental
human rights and basic labour protections, including migrant workers and their families. Therefore,
the human rights of migrant workers and their families include the universal, indivisible,
interconnected and interdependent human rights such as rights to receive equal wages, safe
working conditions: migrant s legal status freedom from forced labour protection against arbitrary
expulsion return home if the migrant wishes standard of living, families to reunification along with
other rights.
Fundamental demographic, economic, and educational changes have set Mexico on a new path,
significantly altering its migration related priorities and concerns regarding the United States and
Central America. Mexican migration is primarily a result of inadequate employment opportunities
and limited economic incentives in the country itself followed by kinship relations in destination
locations. Lack of opportunity for meaningful employment largely stems from stagnant growth in
Mexico, which has averaged 2.5% for the last three decades, far below the 5% to 6% growth rate
needed to create employment for new entrants into the labour force. As a result, many

American Culture Vs Canada Culture
Canada s culture is in many ways very similar to culture in the United States. This in part due to the
proximity the two countries are to one another. However, despite their similarities, there are some
very distinct differences. Many Americans have several misconceptions about the large country to
the north, which are largely out of ignorance and lack of insight. Thus, it is important to understand
that Canadahas its own unique history, characteristics, holidays and demographics.
The name Canada is derived from the word Kanata which translates to Village in the Iroquois
language. The country of Canada is so large it surpasses the United States in size in terms of land
mass, even when Alaska and Hawaii are included (Drozdow, n.d.). Canadas large land mass consists
of ten Provinces and three Territories, with its Capital City of Ottawa sitting in the Province of
Ontario (Jasuja, Sehgal, Gartman July 2017). Canada is a geographically vast country that has
enormous regional differences that include climate, population, language, and culture (Drozdow,
n.d.). The population of Canada is over 35 Million, while the population of the United States is over
321 million. Both countries religious majority is approximately Seventy percent Christian (Jasuja,

Igor Stravinsky Orchestra Conductors Analysis
Traditional purposes of various events and situations, including an orchestra concert, become
overshadowed by what society deems as eye catching. As a composer, Igor Stravinsky takes it upon
himself to discuss the issue at hand. Igor Stravinsky expresses his contempt toward the source that
receives the public s attention and respect, the orchestra conductors, through his abundant use of
similes that create a despicable image of the conductors, his sarcastic diction which displays
Stravinsky s bitterness, and his metaphors that symbolize a greater meaning behind them. The
mention of politics initiates a negative or rather, a tense mood, which works to Stravinsky s
advantage in portraying his disdain as he criticizes that conducting, like politics, rarely attracts

Greek and Roman Architectural Influences in Modern Society...
There are many imitations, and reproductions of Greek and Roman forms in the modern society of
today. Even though the times of the great Ancient Greek and Roman Empires have passed, people
of today are still able to honor their legacy with their long lasting influences on modern society
today, especially in architecture. If one just looks at today s style of buildings, they can see the
similarities between the two different time spans.
Back in the golden days of Greece, one of the top priorities to the Grecian people was how big and
impressive their way of life was, and this included their houses, and public buildings. The primary
type of definitive Greek building was the temple. Many of these temples were built on a large hill

Along came the Mycenaean Period after the Minoan Period, in 1500 BC. This mainland Grecian
society was very different from the Minoans. While the Minoans of Crete were laidback, these
Grecians were much more militaristic and practical, much like how the Roman Empire was, except
there were individual communities often warring with each other. Also, the Mycenaean cities
were dominated by gigantic citadels, or huge fortresses, that were strategically placed on ground
that was higher than the rest of the city, and were protected by massive walls that were made of
limestone, which were entered by a great set of fortified gates. There are some similarities
between the Mycenaean and Minoan people. Much like the Minoan palaces, the grand house for
the important members of the Mycenaean group had many large rooms that were built around a
central courtyard as well. The central courtyard had a distinctive feature called the megaron, which
was an elliptical hall that was used for both domestic and ceremonial purposes. It took up one side
of the courtyard and had a grand front porch and vestibule. Other than the megaron in the courtyard,
the only other difference between the two periods was that in the Mycenaean Period, the rooms of
the palace were much smaller and more compact, again resembling the practicality of Rome s
architecture instead of the grandness and beauty of Grecian architecture. (Reid 26)

The Importance Of Ethical Business Is Not New
The importance of ethical business is not new. Every long term successful business has clearly
understood the need for ethical business practices. There are lessons to be learned, both positive
and negative, from businesses around the world. CEOs must work hard to find a balance between
profits and public image by learning from history, understanding the evolution of business ethics,
and understanding the social responsibility of businesses.
CEOs in the business world today are in a precarious position. They are accountable to
shareholders to keep profits high while avoiding any scandal or implication of shady dealings.
CEOs are also accountable to stakeholders to ensure business practices are acceptable for all
parties. Stakeholders are those that are required to keep an organization functioning, such as
employees and customers. It is the responsibility of top leadership to ensure the success or failure
of the organization is not solely judged by profit margins. Leadership must provide stakeholders
with a road map for the organization. Individual and organizational character is strengthened if the
mission of an organization is clear, if workers have maximum opportunity for growth, and if the
larger social conditions allow corporations to thrive without resorting to underhanded tactics (Terris,
2005). If an organization puts employees and customers ahead of shareholders, the organization can
be more successful in the long run. Employees that feel wanted and

One attraction of the contingency approach among theorists and practitioners alike is its situational
perspective. Those interested in research issues regarding organization and management can use the
contingency perspective to explain why some factors influence situations in one setting but have
virtually no influence in another setting. Indeed, one objective of research within the contingency
framework is to specify those dimensions and conditions that do affect a situation and those that do
not. For the manager, the requirement from the contingency perspective is to identify which
technique will, in a particular situation, best contribute to the attainment of organizational goals.
For instance, under some circumstances, an authoritarian leadership style may be more appropriate
than a leadership style that tries to get workers internally motivated.tuation. While the contingency
approach is useful in recognizing that the complexity involved in understanding human and
organizational systems makes it difficult to develop universal principles of management, there have
been several criticisms of the approach. For one, it has been pointed out that the logical extension of
the contingency approach is that all situations are unique. If this is true, then management can be

Jesus Seminar Critique
One critique to the Jesus Seminar was the motives behind their work. The media often portrayed
the group to be comprised mostly of former Christians, attacking hardest on the group s leader
Robert Funk and cochair John Crossan. Critics went as far to describe their meetings as having the
air of a village atheists convention (Powell, 110). Such an allegation gave rise to the popular belief
that the motives of the scholars were to get revenge on institutionalized religionfor not being
accepting to them. I believe the media was too quick to judge the motives of the scholars by
attacking their backgrounds. Just because their work was controversial doesn t mean it was
subjective with underlying personal vendettas. It seems unlikely that a group... Show more content

The most rebutted aspect of the work done by the scholars was their idiosyncrasy to equate
unverifiable with unauthentic. Most scholars who study the elements attribute to the life of Jesus
stand on common ground when it comes to the realization that many of the sayings and deeds
associated to Jesus in the Gospels lack sufficient evidence to establish authenticity. However, to
many scholars insufficient evidence means an element cannot be verified, and therefore should not
be deemed as historical. In contrast, the Jesus Seminar went beyond this scope and maintained that
Jesus did not say or did not do things that cannot be authenticated by evidence. For example, it is
widely accepted that there is very little evidence to support whether or not Jesus was born from his
virgin mother, Mary. As a result, this element of his life has just been something that one would
believe on the foundation of religious faith rather than historical science. However, the Jesus
Seminar applied a post Enlightenment historical scientific view to this element in order to
determine authenticity. Under this assessment, they determined not only what is confirmable but
what also is scientifically possible. Therefore, the scholars deemed the virgin birth as non
historical, concluding that Jesus had been conceived through normal sexual intercourse between a
male and female because it fit the paradigm known today. This stance held by the Jesus Seminar
turn[s] a corner in the traditional understanding of the relationship that faith and philosophy bear to
science and history (Powell, 115). For this reason, I reject the integrity of their work. I believe
faith and philosophy should be kept separate of science and history, unless the two aim to support
one another. Rescinding concepts of faith simply because they do fall within current scientific
boundaries is illegitimate. The major flaw of the Jesus Seminar is their

The Impact Of Social Behaviors On Human Behavior
Introduction Group behaviour, also known as gregarious behaviour, occurs in a wide variety of
animals including, but not limited to, invertebrates (Ritz, 1994), fish (Shaw, 1970), birds (Lack,
1968), wildebeests (Gueron and Levin, 1993), lions (Bertram, 1975), and primates (Nakagawa,
1990). Benefits of group living include improved reproductive success, increased foraging
success, and improved predation survival (Hamilton, 1971; Reluga and Viscido, 2005). Social
behaviours evolve when the benefits of group living outweigh the costs (Fleagle, 2013). Predation
risk is lowered in social groups by confusing the predator so the predator s success decreases (Hall
et al., 1986; Smith and Warburton, 1992), by providing improved vigilance more... Show more

Group living in animals can be an act of selfish behavior, one of the reasons being the reduced
risk of predation (Morrell and James, 2008). Species that show this behaviour include
sticklebacks (Krause and Tegeder, 1994), banded killifish (Hoare et al., 2004), toad tadpoles
(Watt et al., 1997; Spieler and Linsenmair, 1999) and ocean skaters (Foster and Treherne, 1981).
By keeping close to others and forming a group, an animal can benefit from collective vigilance,
predator confusion, and the dilution risk, all which reduce the chance of predation to that
individual (Morrell and James, 2008; Krause and Ruxton, 2002). Selfish herd theory The selfish
herd theory was developed by Hamilton and is widely excepted as a explanation for the selfish
grouping of animals (Morrell and James, 2008). The Selfish herd theory states that individuals
within a population attempt to reduce their predation risk by putting other individuals between
themselves and predators resulting in groups of animals (Hamilton, 1971). Hamilton s proposed
theory contrasted the hypothesis that evolution of such social behaviour was based on mutual
benefits to the population (Hamilton, 1971). An animal may join a group for its own selfish
reasons, seeking to push the risk of being a victim of predation onto other members (Breed and
Moore, 2011). In groups, predation risk is greatest on the outside edge and lower towards the

World Hunger Rough Draft
World Hunger Rough Draft
World hunger is a very serious issue in today s world, that is very stunning in a world full of
resources and food to feed the hungry. World hunger affects millions around the world. There are
795 million malnutritioned people around the world today. The good news is that hunger is a
problem that can be solved. There is enough food in the world to feed everyone. Today s
knowledge, and willing people can just be enough to solve the main issue of world hunger.
Chronic hunger derives from poverty, armed conflict, being poor, and environ mental overload.
World hunger has many causes, these causes eventually lead to chronic hunger. Far more people die
from causes related to chronic hunger than to famine. Chronically hungry people are exceptionally
vulnerable when famine strikes . This relates to the ancient Egyptian myth, The Seven Years
Famine. Us as human beings need to take action and help the hungry eat and learn how to sustain
themselves.
Prophet Joseph led his Egyptian people through the long term famine. He help build grain silos to
store wheat for a s long as possible otherwise the people of Egypt would have had many casualties

They need the right people to care for them. No one is helping, and even if they are it is not
enough. These people cannot just live this lifestyle forever and pass it from one generation to
another. We have to teach how to sustain themselves. Nobody is doing that, world billionaires
have enough money to feed poor and poverty stricken villages around the world without their
income being affected at all. It is very sad that world hunger is still around and millions of years.
This world is developed and should not have as many hungry people as it has today. We all need
to help in any sort of way. Even if you are not wealthy enough to feed them yourself at least make
an attempt to promote stopping world hunger

The Statue of Liberty, dedicated on Bedloe s Island in New York Harbor on October 28, 1886,

universal symbol of political freedom and democracy, Lady Liberty is the work of a talented
French sculptor,FrГ©dГ©ric Auguste Bartholdi. The statue s full name is Liberty Enlightening the
World. The Statue was the first glimpse of America for more than 20 million immigrants who
came through nearby Ellis Island, chiefly from Ireland, Germany, Italy, and Poland. In 1910, the

The Censorship Of The Digital Age
Are people s information online truly private? Do people know that privacy is no longer
guaranteed? Technological updates in digital spaces make our private information easily
accessible for anyone who is looking for it. There have been plenty of instances of people s
personal information being hacked. When a personbuys an item online or fills out a personal
account, is their information safe? The Ashley Madison hacking sandal was one of the biggest
media controversiesof 2015. The hacking of the adult website leaked personal information of high
profiled celebrities, politicians, and athletes. Information such as credit card numbers, phone
numbers, and addresses were leaked for everyone to see. Hackers can obtain private information
from any communication technology. Privacy in the digital age is relevant because no one is safe
online. Invasion of privacy is only getting worse with new technology advances. The internet has
millions of networks and websites that require one s personal information. Each personal account
holds a privacy setting that should guarantee confidentiality but that is not always the case. The
advances of technology leads to situations that people are unprepared for such as hacking personal
data. Some may believe their information is secure online because companies are always
improving security. However, society will always be faced with individuals who will want to steal
information. Hackers use private information for monetary value and

History Of Science And Conceptual Understanding
History of science and conceptual understanding
According to Richard K Moran, and Page K, in Teaching for Conceptual Understanding in Science ,
Studying history of science is important because it enable students understand the development of
thought, and generalization would be empty without concrete examples. In addition, One important
concern for shutting history of science out of the undergraduate science curriculum was an anxiety
expressed about the history of science that the history of science is composed of hypocrisy and
skepticism science scoundrels , therefore, it is condemned by the scientific community. It also
indicates that although there were early scientists naive thinking and ideas, such early thinking
contribute to direct our present thinking and make students conceptual changes. It takes long time
for students to make change and build their personal knowledge to become accepted. Moreover, it
mentions that one important misconception about the history of science is there are no mistakes
and wrong turns science has taken; the development of science is only thought is cumulative, and
continuous in science from one generation to another one. Such an error is attributed to distorted
histories of science; especially those found in science textbooks, and contribute to widening the gap
between historian and students. Furthermore, it indicates that one important criteria of choosing
between competing and alternative theories is those, which show

The Controversy Over Corporal Punishment In Schools
If you saw a teacher hitting their student, would you think it was okay or would you disagree?
Corporal punishment of any child in school should be illegal in all states. Corporal punishment in
school is causing the student pain in response to undesired behavior. It might involve hitting the
student across the buttocks or the hand with a cane, wooden paddle, slipper, belt, or wooden
yardstick (ruler). With corporal punishment you are not promoting a safe school, you can t sue the
teacher who hit your child if the child gets hurt badly, and your also promoting violence into the
vulnerable child s life; you re making a criminal. But, some might care to see that corporal
punishment is okay and we can have it.
For instance, when you go to school their motto might be, We have a safe school ; Jefferson s
motto is Safe, respectful, and responsible. According to http://www.debate.org/, if there are
teachers corporeally punishing the student as a form of discipline, the child will never feel safe in
that school. Students are supposed to go to their teachers for help but if their teacher is beating
them the student will never ask for help and they will struggle in class, possibly causing grades to
go down. Some schools also have a moto that includes being healthy. If the child was hit hard

will no longer be keeping them safe. Lets give The United States of America a good reputation and
discipline students in other ways. We will make every fifty two states have corporal punishment

Debt Is Bad
Debt is simply money that is owed, and it can be very dangerous to get into. Many people, even
rich people can go into massive amounts of debt and be nearly unable to escape it and get all of
their money paid back. Debt can include things like loans for credit cards and other things, such as
loans taken out to pay for things that current cash reserves can t pay for. A lot of celebrities have
gone into debt, and I will be explaining one celebrity s debt; Kanye West. On February 13th Kanye
announced that he was approximately $53 million in personal debt.
The news was delivered on his Twitter where he made multiple tweets in which he somewhat
vaguely explained the situation. He mainly blames the debt on issues with being successful in the

Putting A Tax On Junk Food Essay
That have gone without, including paying for breakfast to be held in schools as kids won t be
getting a decent breakfast at home because their parents and guardians would be having to pay
more for the food that they want. However, I personally don t agree with this statement, putting a
tax on junk food won t necessarily eradicate the obesity and type 2 diabetes epidemic from
overconsuming junk foods, but it will reduce the consumption by a certain amount, however it s
something that s not going to happen overnight. This is similar to smoking in the sense that
smoking is taxed because it s pernicious not only to the person concerned, but the society
around them and even though smoking is taxed, people are still prepared to buy cigarettes at a
ridiculously expensive price so they can still smoke, but the number of people that smoke has
decreased by a reasonable amount. Research..... Therefore if the government puts a tax on junk
food it will have a corresponding effect as to how smoking was taxed. The government needs to
establish a tax on all unhealthy foods and uses the money to subsidize fruit and vegetables and
promote and educate healthy eating in schools. By doing this type two diabetes and obesity and
the health issues that have been derived from these epidemics will decrease this will mean that
more people will be healthier and therefore live longer. At the moment junk food is ludicrously
cheap; you just have to go into your local supermarket to see that a bottle of

Du Pont Paper Capital Structure Case
B.A. 142 CASE 2
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
E. I. du Pont de Nemours is an American chemical company that has recently acquired the major oil
company of Conoco Inc. and is becoming one of the largest chemical manufacturers in the United
States. Its financial conservatism has pushed Du Pont to the forefront of the industry as its
profitability soared, providing it with the liquidity to readily finance its cash needs. But several
competitive conditions posed a challenge to its risk averse financial policy as the 1970 s was
characteristic of a declining level of industry demand and price, along with rising fuel prices and
an economic recession. These pressures now force Du Pont to source its financing through debt,
foregoing its risk averse ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
During the 1980s, Du Pont entered and won a bidding contest for Conoco, doubling its size and
significantly increasing its orientation toward undifferentiated commodity products, but this move,
however, was responded with negativity by the industry analysts. The purchase of Conoco was
financed through issuance of common stock and a floating rated debt, propelling Du Pont s debt
ratio from 20% to 40%, downgrading its bond rating to AA, the first time in the company s history.
With declining oil prices hampering the the company s performance, and an economic recession
plaguing the chemical industry, its return on capital and earnings per share fell dramatically.
Du Pont s financial policy had always been based on maximization of financial flexibility. Taking
to consideration the riskiness of Du Pont s businesses, its competitive position and profitability
had declined in the last 20 years. Moreover, the firm is still forced to seek external financing
each year for the next five years (1983 1987) due to the continued high level of capital
expenditures which are considered non deferrable to redress the causes of poor performance. In
view of the importance and magnitude of the projected financing needs, the firm is concerned about
how the cost and availability of debt

1960 s Rocket History

As of 2017, the United States of America is still the only country in the world to put men on the

revolutionary pieces of technology during the 1960 s because America went from almost nothing
on rockets to men on the moon. But there are some rockets that outshone the others because those
rockets did great things or they came back from near extinction. The U.S. space program made
many different types of rockets during the 1960 s, but the best type of rockets were the Delta

The Great Fire of 1871 Essay example
Today I ll talk about a horrible disaster that happened one night in 1871. It started out a peaceful
night with the wind blowing harder than usual. Almost everyone was asleep because of their
normal busy lives that they thought they would be doing in the morning.
The Beginning
October 8, 1871: It was a dry, dry Sunday night. Dan Sullivan went on a walk to visit some
neighbors, but when he got to the neighborhood he saw flames rolling out of the O Leary s barn.
He took action and immediately started to yell, FIRE! to wake up his friends and neighbors.
Dennis Rogan had heard Mr. Sullivan and quickly ran to the O Leary s house. He tried knocking
on the door, but then he busted down the door and started yelling for the O Leary s to wake up. ...

The firefighter s barricade of water and firefighting was not enough. The fire was scorching hot.
You could get burned by standing by it. The firefighters had an idea of one firefighter holding a
door in between a firefighter and the fire while he sprayed it. This plan worked well until the door
burst into flames. Soon the little barricade of fire trucks and firefighters was broken and they were
forced back.
A Call for Help That Never Got Heard When the chief saw that his men were being pushed back
he sent a young firefighter rushing to Goll s Drugstore to send in an alarm for reinforcements.
When the firefighter got there Goll was gone so he broke the glass that guarded the alarm box
and pushed the button down. Unfortunately, he forgot to push it down a second time telling the
office that it was a message for reinforcements. Instead the alarm office at the courthouse thought
it was another person turning in the exact same fire. So they never sent in extra trucks. It wasn t
until the watchman from different station saw that the fire and the extra trucks were sent. By
then it was too late the flames were now too big for any of the trucks to handle. The fire soon
grew bigger and bigger. Then it started to move to the west side of Chicago. At first people
thought it would be no big deal. But soon they saw it advance to their homes with big orange and
crimson flames. Hundreds of people rushed to flee

The Death Of Socrates And Jesus
Socrates and Jesus were two teachers whose guidance people still follow today. They were both
sentenced to death for their teachings even though there were witnesses to their innocence. Socrates
was accused of corrupting the youth and practicing atheism by three men, Lytus, Anytus, and
Meletus. Plato, Socrates student, recorded Socrates defense speech. Socrates succeeded in getting
some of the jury to see the truth, but in the end, he was sentenced to the death penalty. The Gospel
of Luke is a section in the New Testament that reveals the Lord JesusChrist and all he taught until
he was killed. Jesus teachings and preaching are brought out as he healed the wounded and sick,
and brought hope to the desperate. Jesus was also sentenced to death, but death did not keep him
from teaching and after three days he resurrected and continued to teach. These men both died for
truth and accepted their punishments. Socrates and Jesus have some similarities in their teachings
and experiences, but Jesus focused more on shaping others and taught the Christian life , while
Socrates shaped his students by teaching them how to take a different path than what the majority
follows.
Jesus and Socrates both focused on teaching what was true to their people. Socrates spoke about
truth as being a person who knows they are not wise and do not know all. Socrates went around
revealing the truth, and the truth was just not what the men of Athens wanted to hear. He states his
teachings during the

RenГ© Descartes The Meditations On First Philosophy
The Meditations on First Philosophy written by RenГ© Descartes in 1641 is a philosophical
treatise composed of 6 parts. Throughout the Meditations Descartes, the Meditator, first disregards
everything that he believes to be certain and tries to decipher what is truly certain.
The First Meditation begins with the Meditator reflecting on the amount of false concepts he has
believed during his lifetime, and how these have impacted his body and mind. He decides that he is
going to resolve his concerns by ridding himself of everything he thinks and knows, and to start
from the foundation and build up his knowledge only on certain grounds. He acknowledges that
everything he has known to be true comes through the senses which can be deceiving especially
when dreaming as objects and circumstances seem real. The Meditator seems content stating that
he is awake by the fire but also is aware that he has dreamt of this same situation before. He then
goes on to state that even dream images are a product of a waking experience and wonders how
one is to tell if what he is living is a dream or reality. The Meditator realizes that nothing was ever
questioned about existence, things were just accepted. From there, the Mediator decides that we

you think about while asleep. For example, if you think you are riding a bike in a dream, you are
not actually riding that bike in reality. So just because you think, you are not actually. Descartes
admits this in the above statement as he can not clearly decipher if he is dreaming or not, so what

The Use and Misuse of Power in Ancient Times
Humankind has come a long way from the nomadic hunter gatherer who drew in caves. In time
society s formed, As society s flourished so did religion and power. A great way to understand an
ancient society is from the ruins of structures and the art left behind. The Palace Complex of
Sargon ll, the Giza Funerary Complex and the Palace at Knossos are all great examples of society s
that are run through religionand power. Delving into the relics that were left behind give a look
into each society and how it worked. The Palace Complex of Sargon ll was a wonderful example
of the concept of absolute power. From the huge gated entrance to the citadel, to the throne room
with a carefully controlled program of architectural and sculptural propaganda designed to
intimidate visitors (Schneider Adams pg. 70) power and promotion of the King is the only
focus. A society led by fear. I would be remiss if I did not mention the more than intimidating
Lamassu waiting to pounce. The Palace is designed to say, this is a powerful king, as powerful
if not more powerful than the gods. The religious ziggurat at this time is an accessory to the
powerful Palace. Religion decisions are made by the king. The Giza Funerary Complex is much
more religious than power based. The main function is several Pharaohs burial tombs. The
religious procedure to put a King to rest very precise and detailed manor. The complex had Temples
and Chapels which helped with offerings and ceremonial events. A

  • 2. Evaluation Of A Research Methodology Overview of the Research Methodology This research methodology is an action plan because the researcher is trying to create a improvement plan in her own school. This will be working with at risk and special education students in the math classroom and ways to better serve those students using differentiated instruction and technology to help lessen the educational gaps those students have and to raise MAP scores. Proposed Research Design The proposed research plan will include two classrooms of at risk and special education students math classes. Incorporating technology and researched based instruction to help increase MAP scores and student understanding. The instruments used will be pre and post tests, MAP scores for the year, informal daily bell ringer and teacher responses. This unit will take one quarter to complete and will help in looking at further instruction in math for these students in years to come. Because of the small sampling and that it is based in one school an action methodology is the best fit. Sampling Techniques The sampling pool includes two sections of Math 1.5, consisting of 18 students in one class and 13 in the other. All participating students were placed in Math 1.5 by either teacher placement, MAP scores or IEP requirements. Of of the 31 students, 18 are boys and 13 are girls. The school district has a high population of Native Americans so culture is an issue in this class. Nine of the students came from the local reservation ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Postman s Theory Of Identity Theft Essay One of Postman s theories was based on technological change as a trade off. According to this theory, Postman believed that there were advantages and disadvantages to every new technology introduced. There is an imbalance on whether a user s enthusiasm to share news outweigh their privacy values. Gross and Acquisti s proposition to information sharing states that, users may be pragmatically publishing personal information because the benefits they expect from public disclosure surpass its perceived costs (10). To those who have become victims of identity theft through social media, the disadvantages might be more obvious than to the general public. Social networks pressurize users for information that consequently causes users to disregard privacy moralities. Further disadvantages discovered by Social Networking ProCon include government intrusions, decreasing employee productivity, promoting crimes, and facilitating cyberbullying. Not all users on social networks will become victims of identity theft, but the statistics are alarming. Even with 54% of social media profiles targeted for identity theft, 93% of user s still share relevant information such as their full names and those of families. • 6. Food Deserts- The link between income and access Essay Food Insecurity and food accessibility are major problems not only in rural areas but also low income urban areas throughout the United States. The term food desert or an area with limited or no access to healthy, affordable and nutritious food was coined during a U.K. Study into food accessibility for those in the lowest income neighborhoods which contained no major grocery store and had the lowest rate of car ownership. This problem has come across the pond and we ve seen many major grocery retailers flee from cities and move to the more profitable suburbs, what s worse is as grocery stores consolidate they leave many neighborhoods under served by convenience stores or fast food outlets. The prevalence of more processed, unhealthy... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One significant effect of lack of supermarket access is its negative impact on diet. If a significant portion of the people on public assistance cannot afford to eat healthfully and furthermore do not have the ability or the nutritional education necessary to live a healthy lifestyle this has immediate effects on the growing epidemics of obesity, heart disease and other lifestyle related illnesses and on the health system that is already at capacity. Three key elements are described in Sparks piece: proximity, variety and competition. Proximity is important because research shows low income people are less likely to own an automobile. Variety is important because research into retail choice suggests people value variety and do not always shop at the supermarket that is closest to home (Handy,1996). Finally, competition is an accepted price control mechanism, which is important when evaluating access for low income populations. (Sparks). These are described as the most important factors because they will play biggest role in where a person chooses to shop for food given the choice. Not all the experts agree however that the prevalence of fast food and the limited access of fresh food is the driving factor in the rise of obesity. A study conducted by the RAND corporation a non profit federally funded research center recently released a study that found that among adults the neighborhood food environment had little or no relation to the adult subjects ... Social Problems Within The Australian Society A Social Analysis Homelessness There are a growing number of social problems existing within the Australian society and unfortunately, research does not need to prove this. All it takes is a stroll down the main street of some suburbs to realise the extent of social problems within society. Homelessness is a rising trend that is affecting people of all demographics. Homelessness is more than just a simple disadvantage; with usually many underpinning factors which contribute to it, such as domestic violence, financial stress, mental illness and drug use. In addition to this, it is believed that domestic violence is a primary cause for homelessness particularly amongst women and children. (Ultius, 2017) A whole issue within itself is the accessibility to social housing for vulnerable Australians, with many families needing to seek short term or crisis accommodation due to the lack of availabilities within the social housing sector, and for those who are able to obtain housing within the private sector often fall victim to private landlords as they display forms of power when rent falls into arears. These people then become victims within the private market, often becoming blacklisted by landlords and their agents. It is believed that private renters who attempt to advocate for their rights are often locked out of their premises due to disruptive behaviour. As a leading power in our continent we have a responsibility to lead our continent in the right direction and help when another country is going through a struggle. Given our history of human rights violations we should be standing up for any other human rights violations within our continent. The idea of human security challenges the idea of state centred security, it shifts the focus from the state to the individual. Security of the people (Acharya, A 2001). We can focus on a number of types of security for the individual. Economic security, the idea that a person has a stable income either from a job or some kind of public support net. Political security being safeguarding people with their basic human rights as well as freedom of the people from government attempt to control ideas and information distribution. Personal security is the defence from violence either from the state or non state actors (Acharya, A 2001). Overall, BA has the collectivist approach because large emphasis is on the group. One such example is the nurturing of cabin crew. Families of staff are created to work the same shift patterns. Emerging Therapies For Sickle Cell Anemia Emerging therapies for sickle cell anemia Cesi Salmeron Suny Rockland Community College Abstract Sickle cell anemia (SCA) is an inherited disorder that produces sickle or crescent shape red blood cells. Thus, the mutated erythrocytes result in an inadequate supply of oxygen being transported throughout the body. Research shows that among those affected the most with the sickle cell gene are African Americans. In recent years, we have seen a decrease in mortality and morbidity rates as a result of new approaches to treating the disease. The more we understand the pathophysiology of sickle cell anemia, the more we learn about developing therapies for genetic disorders such as SCA. In this paper, we will briefly discuss what sickle cell anemia is and possible treatments for people with sickle cell anemia such as gene therapy and new drugs. What is sickle cell anemia? Sickle cell anemia (SCA) is an autosomal recessive genetic disorder. This missense mutation is characterized by mutant beta globin subunits that tend to stick together (Cummings, 2014). As a result, abnormally shaped red blood cells are produced by this disorder. The erythrocytes are sickle or crescent shaped. Sickling occurs under hypoxic conditions, in which there is insufficient supply of oxygen delivered throughout the body (Sun Xia, 2013). In order to inherit this monogenic disease, one copy of the sickle globin gene from each parent must be passed on to the offspring (Ashley Koch, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

With WICD we found it difficult and time consuming to utilize this toolset to try and include all of our base applications into the provisioning pack process, due the nature of the wrapper, applications having prompts that cannot be answered, and the nature of these applications frequently changing a different solution is needed. What we found was that instead of trying to include all of the base applications in the provisioning pack in and of itself we only include the SCCM client and then we created an SCCM Task Sequence that can be executed after the other tasks of the provisioning packs are completed and a Tech signs into the device. If we wish to try and approach this by making the provisioning pack further inclusive it will take a large time investment, both upfront and continually as the version of these applications change every 3 6 months. It is estimated that in the UK, CCS could cost every household up to 10% more per year for electricity (Haszeldine, R.2009) however this cost is predicted to reduce the necessary costs of CO2 removal in 2050 by a factor of 10, which will likely save the country more money in the long run. The National Congress on Penitentiary and Reformatory Discipline documented the merits of rehabilitation (Wines, 1871, p. 457). By utilizing correctional policies and practices that are not built upon evidence based theories, we risk not only imposing ineffective treatments on offenders, we risk increasing an offender s criminality (p. 3). This is especially disconcerting when one considers the potential harm to which we are exposing society upon the offender s release (Latessa, Cullen, Gendreau, 2002, p. 44). Evidence based corrections would implement rehabilitation policies, as research shows it to be the greatest opportunity to significantly impact crime as it addresses what is known to both cause and reduce criminality (Cullen, Jonson, 2012, p. 11). Inherent in the ideals of effective rehabilitation are the identification of criminogenic risk factors (i.e., correlates of criminality) such as aggression, and the establishment of individualized evidence based treatments which address them (p. 30). In other words, offenders offend for different reasons and until we target those reasons with empirically sound treatments and interventions, we cannot hope for successful rehabilitation. Worse yet, by utilizing one size fits all treatments, we risk exposing them to criminogenic risk factors, further exacerbating their criminal propensities (p. 12). But before the fall of France in 1940, the United States was starting to pull away from being neutral, which they claimed at the beginning of the European war. Americans and the British would hold conversations between themselves known as the ABC talks. It was there that they both targeted Germany as their prime enemy. With this, careful consideration of Army mobilization and training, military construction, naval and merchant shipbuilding revealed that the Army could expect to go over to the offensive no earlier than July 1, 1943. Achieving the necessary military conditions for attack, though simple to state, was more an uncertain proposition. Migrant Workers Research Paper Committee: Social, Humanitarian and Cultural Committee (SOCHUM) Topic: Promoting the human rights of migrant workers Country: Mexico All persons, regardless of their nationality, race, legal or other status, are entitled to fundamental human rights and basic labour protections, including migrant workers and their families. Therefore, the human rights of migrant workers and their families include the universal, indivisible, interconnected and interdependent human rights such as rights to receive equal wages, safe working conditions: migrant s legal status freedom from forced labour protection against arbitrary expulsion return home if the migrant wishes standard of living, families to reunification along with other rights. Fundamental demographic, economic, and educational changes have set Mexico on a new path, significantly altering its migration related priorities and concerns regarding the United States and Central America. Mexican migration is primarily a result of inadequate employment opportunities and limited economic incentives in the country itself followed by kinship relations in destination locations. However, despite their similarities, there are some very distinct differences. Many Americans have several misconceptions about the large country to the north, which are largely out of ignorance and lack of insight. Thus, it is important to understand that Canadahas its own unique history, characteristics, holidays and demographics. The name Canada is derived from the word Kanata which translates to Village in the Iroquois language. The country of Canada is so large it surpasses the United States in size in terms of land mass, even when Alaska and Hawaii are included (Drozdow, n.d.). Canadas large land mass consists of ten Provinces and three Territories, with its Capital City of Ottawa sitting in the Province of Ontario (Jasuja, Sehgal, Gartman July 2017). Canada is a geographically vast country that has enormous regional differences that include climate, population, language, and culture (Drozdow, n.d.). Even though the times of the great Ancient Greek and Roman Empires have passed, people of today are still able to honor their legacy with their long lasting influences on modern society today, especially in architecture. If one just looks at today s style of buildings, they can see the similarities between the two different time spans. ( Classical Greek Architecture 616) (Reid 26) Along came the Mycenaean Period after the Minoan Period, in 1500 BC. This mainland Grecian society was very different from the Minoans. While the Minoans of Crete were laidback, these Grecians were much more militaristic and practical, much like how the Roman Empire was, except there were individual communities often warring with each other. Also, the Mycenaean cities were dominated by gigantic citadels, or huge fortresses, that were strategically placed on ground that was higher than the rest of the city, and were protected by massive walls that were made of limestone, which were entered by a great set of fortified gates. There are some similarities between the Mycenaean and Minoan people. Much like the Minoan palaces, the grand house for the important members of the Mycenaean group had many large rooms that were built around a central courtyard as well. The central courtyard had a distinctive feature called the megaron, which was an elliptical hall that was used for both domestic and ceremonial purposes. It took up one side of the courtyard and had a grand front porch and vestibule. Other than the megaron in the courtyard, the only other difference between the two periods was that in the Mycenaean Period, the rooms of the palace were much smaller and more compact, again resembling the practicality of Rome s architecture instead of the grandness and beauty of Grecian architecture. Every long term successful business has clearly understood the need for ethical business practices. There are lessons to be learned, both positive and negative, from businesses around the world. CEOs must work hard to find a balance between profits and public image by learning from history, understanding the evolution of business ethics, and understanding the social responsibility of businesses. CEOs in the business world today are in a precarious position. They are accountable to shareholders to keep profits high while avoiding any scandal or implication of shady dealings. CEOs are also accountable to stakeholders to ensure business practices are acceptable for all parties. Stakeholders are those that are required to keep an organization functioning, such as employees and customers. It is the responsibility of top leadership to ensure the success or failure of the organization is not solely judged by profit margins. Leadership must provide stakeholders with a road map for the organization. Individual and organizational character is strengthened if the mission of an organization is clear, if workers have maximum opportunity for growth, and if the larger social conditions allow corporations to thrive without resorting to underhanded tactics (Terris, 2005). Those interested in research issues regarding organization and management can use the contingency perspective to explain why some factors influence situations in one setting but have virtually no influence in another setting. Indeed, one objective of research within the contingency framework is to specify those dimensions and conditions that do affect a situation and those that do not. For the manager, the requirement from the contingency perspective is to identify which technique will, in a particular situation, best contribute to the attainment of organizational goals. For instance, under some circumstances, an authoritarian leadership style may be more appropriate than a leadership style that tries to get workers internally motivated.tuation. While the contingency approach is useful in recognizing that the complexity involved in understanding human and organizational systems makes it difficult to develop universal principles of management, there have been several criticisms of the approach. For one, it has been pointed out that the logical extension of the contingency approach is that all situations are unique. If this is true, then management can be practiced only by intuition and ... The media often portrayed the group to be comprised mostly of former Christians, attacking hardest on the group s leader Robert Funk and cochair John Crossan. Critics went as far to describe their meetings as having the air of a village atheists convention (Powell, 110). Such an allegation gave rise to the popular belief that the motives of the scholars were to get revenge on institutionalized religionfor not being accepting to them. The most rebutted aspect of the work done by the scholars was their idiosyncrasy to equate unverifiable with unauthentic. Most scholars who study the elements attribute to the life of Jesus stand on common ground when it comes to the realization that many of the sayings and deeds associated to Jesus in the Gospels lack sufficient evidence to establish authenticity. However, to many scholars insufficient evidence means an element cannot be verified, and therefore should not be deemed as historical. In contrast, the Jesus Seminar went beyond this scope and maintained that Jesus did not say or did not do things that cannot be authenticated by evidence. For example, it is widely accepted that there is very little evidence to support whether or not Jesus was born from his virgin mother, Mary. As a result, this element of his life has just been something that one would believe on the foundation of religious faith rather than historical science. However, the Jesus Seminar applied a post Enlightenment historical scientific view to this element in order to determine authenticity. Under this assessment, they determined not only what is confirmable but what also is scientifically possible. Therefore, the scholars deemed the virgin birth as non historical, concluding that Jesus had been conceived through normal sexual intercourse between a male and female because it fit the paradigm known today. This stance held by the Jesus Seminar turn[s] a corner in the traditional understanding of the relationship that faith and philosophy bear to science and history (Powell, 115). For this reason, I reject the integrity of their work. I believe faith and philosophy should be kept separate of science and history, unless the two aim to support one another. Rescinding concepts of faith simply because they do fall within current scientific boundaries is illegitimate. The major flaw of the Jesus Seminar is their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 41. The Impact Of Social Behaviors On Human Behavior Introduction Group behaviour, also known as gregarious behaviour, occurs in a wide variety of animals including, but not limited to, invertebrates (Ritz, 1994), fish (Shaw, 1970), birds (Lack, 1968), wildebeests (Gueron and Levin, 1993), lions (Bertram, 1975), and primates (Nakagawa, 1990). Benefits of group living include improved reproductive success, increased foraging success, and improved predation survival (Hamilton, 1971; Reluga and Viscido, 2005). Social behaviours evolve when the benefits of group living outweigh the costs (Fleagle, 2013). Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Group living in animals can be an act of selfish behavior, one of the reasons being the reduced risk of predation (Morrell and James, 2008). Species that show this behaviour include sticklebacks (Krause and Tegeder, 1994), banded killifish (Hoare et al., 2004), toad tadpoles (Watt et al., 1997; Spieler and Linsenmair, 1999) and ocean skaters (Foster and Treherne, 1981). By keeping close to others and forming a group, an animal can benefit from collective vigilance, predator confusion, and the dilution risk, all which reduce the chance of predation to that individual (Morrell and James, 2008; Krause and Ruxton, 2002). Selfish herd theory The selfish herd theory was developed by Hamilton and is widely excepted as a explanation for the selfish grouping of animals (Morrell and James, 2008). The Selfish herd theory states that individuals within a population attempt to reduce their predation risk by putting other individuals between themselves and predators resulting in groups of animals (Hamilton, 1971). Hamilton s proposed theory contrasted the hypothesis that evolution of such social behaviour was based on mutual benefits to the population (Hamilton, 1971). The firefighter s barricade of water and firefighting was not enough. The fire was scorching hot. You could get burned by standing by it. The firefighters had an idea of one firefighter holding a door in between a firefighter and the fire while he sprayed it. This plan worked well until the door burst into flames. Soon the little barricade of fire trucks and firefighters was broken and they were forced back. A Call for Help That Never Got Heard When the chief saw that his men were being pushed back he sent a young firefighter rushing to Goll s Drugstore to send in an alarm for reinforcements. When the firefighter got there Goll was gone so he broke the glass that guarded the alarm box and pushed the button down. Unfortunately, he forgot to push it down a second time telling the office that it was a message for reinforcements. Instead the alarm office at the courthouse thought it was another person turning in the exact same fire. So they never sent in extra trucks. It wasn t until the watchman from different station saw that the fire and the extra trucks were sent. By then it was too late the flames were now too big for any of the trucks to handle. The fire soon grew bigger and bigger. Then it started to move to the west side of Chicago. At first people thought it would be no big deal. Throughout the Meditations Descartes, the Meditator, first disregards everything that he believes to be certain and tries to decipher what is truly certain. The First Meditation begins with the Meditator reflecting on the amount of false concepts he has believed during his lifetime, and how these have impacted his body and mind. He decides that he is going to resolve his concerns by ridding himself of everything he thinks and knows, and to start from the foundation and build up his knowledge only on certain grounds. He acknowledges that everything he has known to be true comes through the senses which can be deceiving especially when dreaming as objects and circumstances seem real. The Meditator seems content stating that he is awake by the fire but also is aware that he has dreamt of this same situation before. He then goes on to state that even dream images are a product of a waking experience and wonders how one is to tell if what he is living is a dream or reality. The Meditator realizes that nothing was ever questioned about existence, things were just accepted. From there, the Mediator decides that we can only trust the ... For example, if you think you are riding a bike in a dream, you are not actually riding that bike in reality. So just because you think, you are not actually. Descartes admits this in the above statement as he can not clearly decipher if he is dreaming or not, so what is he really ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
