Bona Fide Occupational Qualification Essay
Bona fide occupational qualification and the military
Title VII of the 1964 civil rights act prohibits employment discrimination based on race, color,
religion, sex and national origin. Contrary to title VII, gender and religion under the bona fide
occupational qualification allows discrimination for certain jobs that calls for a particular group,
age limit etc. An example of a company using bona fide occupational qualification in the United
States Military. Every day bona fide occupational qualification is used in the United States
military to decline thousands of applicants daily because of their age. The age limit for joining the
navy is 34 for active duty and 39 for applicants attempting to join the reserves. Because of the
physical demand of basic training and the life of military personnel, the navy set 34 as their

The argument against women serving in the elite navy seal units is that women are not able to
meet the physical standards that are required by the Special Forces. Reports in basic training has
shown that women are able to meet and exceed the swimming, running and push ups when they
are placed in advanced divisions. A second argument that is made is that the price tag to send
women to Basic Underwater Demolition School or buds, would cost millions of dollars a year.
The answer to this argument is to change the training pipeline to mirror the men. Before any male
is sent to Buds, they must pass pre buds in basic training. If the trainee doesn t pass pre buds they
are reassigned into another job or discharged from active duty. Women have served in combat
roles for the last 25 years, including the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. Now it s time to give them
the opportunity to serve as navy seals by striking down outdates restrictions and perceptions of

LGBT parenting (YAY OR NAY!)
This research paper I provide facts, studies about lesbian parenting, and homosexual parenting being
just as accurate as heterosexual parenting. I also explain how lesbian marriage acceptance is the
first step to a great parenting for a child. A key factor that can help financially, mentally, and
socially. Within our own community acceptance most people are prejudice to those who don t
follow the norm. In this essay I provide facts of pure rejection and overcoming, stories told by
those who lived with LGBT parents, and studies proving that there is no true difference in the

decisive majority, but a plurality of Americans under age thirty support it. A problem this big on
marriage has not come to pass since the states were at odds over interracial marriage. Not only is
it a civil rights issue but there is a wonder if same sex couple s can raise a child. In the census of
2000, 599,000 same sex couples live together and within that the estimate of children 166,000.
One of the problems is that the child to mostly one of theirs or only one of them gave birth to it.

This white paper provides an overview of MBT. The model driven approach to software
development has not only changed the way software systems are built and maintained but also the
way they are tested. Model based testing approach is much recommended since it is aligned with
the new model driven development paradigm that favors models over code with the objective
being to reduce time to market while improving product quality. Model based testing relies on
models of a system under test and/or its environment to derive test cases for the system. ... Show

Model based Testing Page 2
Introduction
Software testing is an important means of accessing quality of software which is an essential, but
time and resource consuming activity in the software development process. Though a lot of
advancements have been done in formal methods and verification techniques, still we need software
to be fully tested before it could be handled to the customer. Thus there are a number of testing
techniques and tools made to accomplish the task. Software testing is an important area of research
and a lot of development has been made in this field and gaining more and more importance in the
future. Test automation has been done to reduce the cost of testing. Traditionally the test
automation has been focused mainly on automating the test management and test execution.
Unfortunately, the test design often still remains a manual activity. The test design itself concerns
making the decisions on
(1) What to and what not to test
(2) How to stimulate the system and with what data values
(3) How the system should react and respond to the stimuli
The test design is therefore a separate task from test execution and is done before executing the tests
against the system. So even still today, automated tests are too often created and executed only for
regression, not really to find defects in the new functionality. Traditional, manual

Roma Culture Research Paper
Abstract
This paper explore the Roma culture with focus on women s health practices. Roma also referred
to as Rom, Rroma, Romani and gypsies are people traveled across the Middle East and Europe,
with some later settling in the United States. Known for their nomadic lifestyle, they are often
marginalized and discriminated against. Roma have strong cultural beliefs with many focusing on
the importance of family and purity. Many aspects of pregnancy are considered impure and
shameful. Many women do not have appropriate prenatal care. The lack of appropriate care
coupled with unhealthy lifestyle choices associated with the Roma can lead to a myriad of
pregnancy complications. The Roma culture is very specific and it is important to provide culturally
competent care. This paper helps focus on aspects to provide better care for this unique culture.

Why Is Deer Hunting Important In Australia
One of the biggest challenges for hunters worldwide is hunting for deer in Australia. As a result,
numerous professional associations, as well as hunting clubs, have sprung up in these locations
where deer hunting is increasing in popularity. There are many locations all over Australia where
creative sport hunters can pursue any of the 6 native species, providing that they act responsibly and
considerably to the wild animals in the huntingarea. Knowledge is vital for successful deerhunting
in Australia along with expertise, ethics, and a strong passion for the natural environment.
The Acclimatisation Society of Victoria, from 1860 to 1900, was in charge of the introduction of
at least 26 varieties of deer all for the purpose of liberation. ... Show more content on

A number of them are descendants of the initial releases that have widened their range. On the
other hand, some have had a reduced distribution. Numerous areas have seen recent populations
established by deer that have escaped from modern deer farms or from secret releases. Irrespective
of where they originated, the population of deer in the 21st century in Australia is higher than ever
and a growing number of hunters are appreciating more every day.
In Australia, there are 6 varieties of deer that are considered permitted for hunting. The sambar
deer is one of the most commonplace deer and they are mostly found in parts of Victoria and New
South Wales and they are expanding their range to other parts of Australia. Compared to other kinds
of deer, the sambar deer are tougher to hunt due to their low density population along with their
ability to stand completely still for extended periods, which makes eluding hunters and predators

On the Entrapment and Incarceration of the Victorian...
Thomas Blackburn describes the two Victorian poets, Robert Browning and Alfred, Lord Tennyson
as being great contemporaries (47). As such it is apt that their works should muse upon and explore
similar topics and themes. Their connection is especially evident in Browning s My Last Duchess
and Tennyson s The Lady of Shalott . The themes of entrapment and incarceration feature heavily in
both of these works. Specifically, it is the entrapment and incarceration of women which pervade
their respective compositions. When taking into consideration the way in which women were
viewed at this juncture in history being nothing more than beautiful objects (Gilbert and Gubar 54),
it is quite easy to see how the literary representations of the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

While the Duke of Ferrara never explicitly verbalizes the Duchess fate, it is strongly implied that
she died as a result of her inability to conform to his model of appropriate behaviour: And if she
let Herself be lessoned so, nor plainly set Her wits to yours, forsooth, and made excuse E en then
would be some stooping; and I choose Never to stoop. Oh sir, she smiled, no doubt, Whene er I

all smiles stopped together. There she stands As if alive (Browning, My Last Duchess, lines 39
47) Thus the Duchess is bound to the Duke and has become imprisoned within his art collection
as nothing more than a possession. The Duke exemplifies this view when he makes reference to
another piece of his art collection, as if the current and previous subjects of his monologue were
completely analogous, Notice Neptune, though/ Taming a sea horse, thought a rarity/ Which
Claus of Innsbruck cast in bronze for me! (Browning 54 56), he truly appreciates both pieces
with similar enthusiasm. Although the Duchess is allocated no space to give her side of the
story, through the Duke s depiction the reader can infer that she was killed for having her own
free will and as such there is zero doubt that she is a victim of imprisonment of the Duke s
egocentric ideals. While he puts an adulterous spin on her actions, by declaring: She had A heart

The Great War Between Western Powers
There are views that the mainstream theories are chronologically underdeveloped. They insist that
there are trans historical concepts that allow us to identify universal regularities. There is
privileging of European experience in our IR understanding. It is suggested that once we divert our
attention from Europe, truisms in mainstream IRT is questionable, despite their long establishment.
(Buzan Little, 2000) The mainstream theory of Realism, Liberalism and their neo counterparts were
formulated with and grounded in Western History. It can be said that in the gradual formulation of
International Relations theories, scholars have largely ignored the historical, cultural and social
context of different regions outside Europe and America.
Liberalism has pacific historic origins as a reaction to the huge casualties and damage caused by
the First World War in the western world. It aspires to promote peace through international
cooperation. However, this theory simplified international relations too much to the extent that it
focused on the great war between western powers.
Major strands of Realism emerged at the end of Pelopponesian War and the Cold Warin the eyes of
Thucydides and Morgenthau, respectively (Dunne, et. al, 2007). While the hegemonic stability
thesis espoused by neo realists has a (western) post cold war background of the demise of Soviet
Union and the emergence of United States as a global hegemon. Neorealism, with this background,
posited hegemonic stability

Why Did The Comanche Tribes Gain Their Power
The Comanche were one of the most powerful Indian tribes that America has ever seen. They
stopped the Spanish from expanding to the north and farther into America. However they weren t
always that way. S.W. Gwynne compared them to a young, bullied boy who grew into a strong,
vengeful man. There were quite a few different factors that made the Comanche evolve into this
powerhouse in the west. The Comanche were able to hold this power for some time, that is, until
things took a turn for the worse, and they were forced to surrender and their power was gone.
Before exploring how the Comanche gained their power, one must look into the history of the
Comanche tribe. The word comes from a Ute word meaning anyone who wants to fight me all the
time. The Comanche were originally part of the Shoshone group, but 10,000 members left after they
were introduced to horses. They moved to the Texasand Oklahoma region. They chose that land
specifically for the buffalo population. This land they settled in was called Comancheria. Part of
that land included the Llano Estacado, a plateau in Texas and New... Show more content on

One of the most well known uses of the Comanche power is raiding. Over the time of their
power, there is an estimation of 20,000 captives taken by the Comanche tribes. The Comanche
had a process when it came to their raids. Adult males and newborns to the age of two would be
killed. Children from the age of three to ten would be taken as captives. Women would normally
be raped and sometimes killed. Once the Comanche realized they had low fertility rates, they
started to take the women as captives in order to raise their populations. The captives were also
used as slaves to take care of the livestock. The Comanche would do horrendous things to their
captives and those they were raiding. Examples are torture, gang rape, scalping,

Essay on The Evolution of Reggae Music
The Evolution of Reggae Music
Reggae has sustained the test of time and remains one of the world s last genuine folk music. The
evolution of Reggae music can be traced back to the early 1900 s with Mento , which is a simple
music art form of Jamaican folk music with strong African roots. Reggae music is protest songs
against racism, corruption and injustice. It has close links with a religion based around the Bible
that is re interpreted from a black s perspective, Rastafarianism .
The key features of Reggae music are the 4/4 time signatures, the emphasised beats 2 and 4 of each

My Boy Lollipop was the perfect example of the success that this new generation of peppy horn

massive explosion of Reggae music in the local industry. During the Reggae era, artists like Bob
Marley, Peter Tosh and Bunny Wailer, Jimmy Cliff, King Stich and Burning Spear started to
emerge and incorporate the offbeat syncopated music style of Reggae into their songs,
transforming the songs into popular hits. Bob Marley was born in 1945 and he first joined Peter
Tosh and Bunny Wailer to form The Wailers . Then he produced his own soul, rock steady

With the war era of the 60 s approaching, reggae finally took form with a mellow beat, conscious
and emotional lyrics and bands that spoke the words of the people. The spiritual influence of
reggae captured fans worldwide and for the first time ever; reggae was a real influence
internationally. Bob Marley and the Wailers produced songs of hope and freedom that related to
the wars happening between Vietnam. The song War by Bob Marley and the Wailers impacted the

The Development Of Decision Making
The Development of Decision Making in Nursing Nursing is a profession that has traditionally
attracted individuals who have a desire to help others and have an interest in the health sciences
(Ruesink, 2012). In the complex world of health care, good intentions only go so far in terms of
client safety, quality of care, and achieving the best possible outcomes, and that is why critical
thinking, decision making, and evidence based practice are crucial to the nursing profession when
acting on the behalf of our clients (Fero, Witsberger, Wesmiller, Zullo, Hoffman, 2009; Ruesink,
2012; Thompson, Aitken, Doran, Dowding, 2013). In this paper I will discuss and explore three

The College of Registered Nurses of British Columbia (CRNBC), defines Clinical decision
making as: A complex and dynamic process, occurring within a larger context and drawing from
various dimensions of knowledge, in which nurses collect and organize information in order to
form conclusions and choose actions, with the intent of creating the best outcomes for clients
(2014, slide 19). The nursing profession demands a high standard of quality and safety, compelling
nurses to act professionally, be accountable for their own actions, and embrace their Professional
Standards (CRNBC, 2013). The CRNBC Professional Standards requires nurses to know where to
access information to support their knowledge to deliver evidence based, competent nursing care,
as well as use decision making tools to guide their assessments, diagnoses, and treatments (2013).
For nurses to make clinical decisions that enhance a client s health, promote realistic solutions, and
reduce potential risks, decision making and critical thinking must happen in sync (Fero et al., 2009;
Standing, 2005). To support critical thinking in nursing practice, and help novice nurses
compensate for the lack of clinical experience, decision making models have been constructed to
help navigate the multi dimensional complexities of the

Commercial Whaling
Make the case for the resumption of commercial whaling as an international policy. Commercial
whaling has an abundant amount of utilizations. The main utilizations include food use,
commercial use (whale watching), animal feed and fertilizer use, cosmetic use, and
pharmaceutical use. While not popular in most countries, countries like Alaska, Iceland, Norway,
and Japan have whale meat on their menus. There are also other indigenous people and people in
Inuit tribes who depend on whale meat as their main source of food. Within the pharmaceutical
field, Russia, Norway, and Japan are counties that take on studies for the medical uses of whale.

In my opinion, every species, including humans, is a part of the food chain. Whether or not
humans are at the top of the food chain isn t what is important when it comes to the relationship
between us and whales. We have the technology and intelligence to kill whales and use them at
important resources, including food, wax (for candles and cosmetics), and pharmaceuticals. We
should be taking every advantage we get to further develop our knowledge of whale oil, meat,
and cartilage. I believe that we should use every opportunity to better our lives, but that does not
include kill whales recreationally. There is no excuse for that, just like there is no excuse for
kills of dogs, zebras, or pandas. Unless it is for survival, no one should be killing an animal for
fun. That saying, there is a point when we will have to stop commercial whaling. The whale
population has been an interesting trend to research. Whale population has been very high and
very low in the past couple centuries. My opinion is that we should have a set number of whales
that we can take out of the ocean each year. If that number starts to cause a decline in the
population, it should be set lower. If the population becomes endangered, I believe that whaling
should stop immediately. I could imagine having to describe to the next generation what a whale
looks like because there aren t any to show

The Choral Poem In The Alchemist
The Choral Poem called The Alchemist has a comparable theme as the book The Alchemist because
they both reflect the importance of taking something simple and transform it not to something
better although the best version of itself. Its to say as Turning lead into gold. To further explanation,
it means to Transforms something useless into something indispensable. In addition to that, When
an individuals strive to become better than they were, everything around them becomes better too.
The theme of the poem and the book encourage humanity that If humanity recognize that they could
be better then become better, don t settle. Don t be the same. Be better.
Furthermore,In the book, Santiago reflects the theme in many different ways. One way in which
Santiago reflects the theme is when he meets the crystal merchant and helped him in the shop so
much that it became the best crystal shop ever. According to the Merchant on page 54, Santiago
has changed this life and himself to the best version of themselves. For instance, in the book, it
says, Crystal Merchant: I ve had this shop for thirty years. I know good crystal from bad, and
everything else there is to know about crystal. I know its dimensions and how it behaves. If we
serve tea in the crystal, the shop is going to expand. And then I ll have to change my way of life.
/ Boy: Well, isn t that good? / Crystal Merchant: I m already used to the way things are. Before

had moved on, and either went bankrupt or did better than they had before. It made me very
depressed. Now, I can see that it hasn t been too bad. The shop is exactly the size I always wanted
it to be. I don t want to change anything, because I don t know how to deal with change. I m

Essay on The Evolutionary Ladder to New Media
It started out with the air ways, families sat by the radio sets in their homes waiting for a familiar
voice to greet them with the latest news. A few years later, those airways filled with a new signal,
one that carried thousands of pieces of data that a television set at home would convert to video.
Throughout the innovations in the airwaves, newspapers and print media hung on by a thin line.
However, with the introduction of new forms of media powered by the internet, Fathers do not have
to wait for the morning newspaper to read the headlines. Mothers can keep up with the latest

No waiting, instant access, and immediate attention. Driven by the internet powerhouse,
knowledge does not have to wait to spread. Traditional media costs money, and for years, has
strategized to keep itself alive. However, print media s management did not imagine the internet
growing to what it has today. (Shriky) Traditional forms of media such as newspapers and
magazines all cost money, money that the consumer has to spend, and money that publishers have
to spend. Knowledge gives power, but when that knowledge costs even a couple of cents, no
consumer wants to pay for it. Why? Because new media gives people a free way to send
knowledge and information.
In new media, the term News not only applies to journalistic accounts, but has rather grown to a
single person s viewpoint or thought. In the wake of the terrorist attacks on September 11th
2001, new media paved the way for people to connect in unity and get the latest news. Editor and
journalist Neal Morton remarked, with the net, now we go and find the news...We go out and
discuss various viewpoints [ourselves], (Morton). New media has not only given power to the
journalist, but to the individual. To face the facts; journalists, editors, and writers all represent
what Kendyl Salcito and many others describe as Gatekeepers . In old print media, editors and
writers stand in charge of what gets published and what information goes out to the public, and
typically this power creates a bias. Blogs, social

Pathos In A Letter To Birmingham Jail
Civil rights activist Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., while imprisoned in Birmingham, Alabama, wrote
his A Letter to Birmingham Jail in 1963. In this letter, King addresses eight white clergymen who
had previously written to King regarding his demonstrations. The purpose is to inform the audience
on ethics/ morality and how segregation is wrong. Through the use of ethos and pathos, Dr. King
exposes the cruelty of segregation to justify his protest. Dr. King shows credibility through
appealing to his audience by having them understand him as a religious figure. King states, I have
the honor of serving as president of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference, an organization
operating in every southern state, with headquarters in Atlanta, Georgia. We have some eighty five
organizations across the south, and one of them is the Alabama Christian Movement for Human
Rights (King 1). He emphasizes that when he speaks about religious topics he has the credibility to
do so. By saying I have the honor king shows that he has the confidence and the authority to speak
about this organization because he is the president of the organization. King describes that it is An

Cybercrime Has Become One Of The Most Threatening Issues
Cybercrime has become one of the most threatening issues not only for the security of the United
States (U.S.) but for the security of the entire world. The Recent massive attack which targeted
around 300,000 machines in 150 countries proved that the world is not prepared to confront such
threat. This type of asymmetric threat demands a more comprehensive approach since it cannot be
addressed with the conventional assets the U.S. possesses to counter its traditional aggressors.
Cybercrime requires the use of innovative and integrated solutions that the individual effort of U.S.
federal agencies by themselves are incapable of providing if working independently. Hence the

The U.S. should retain the popular support to its institutions since it is fundamental to expand its
values abroad as well. Equally, it is important to maintain the diverse capabilities to address
numerous challenges with the appropriate budget for its functioning. The role of external points of
view and third party opinions are nourishing for the process of growing not only as organizations
but also as human beings. In this sense, think tanks and academia are good sources of criticism and
adequate feedback for retaking the north when arrogance and overconfidence blur the horizon of
what is correct, especially when occupying positions of power.
On the other hand, it is necessary to strengthen the strategic leadership at the highest level of
governance with experts who understand the structure of the national security enterprise while being
capable of synchronizing the roles of the existing organizations and agencies. It is pivotal that roles
and functions within the NSE are clearly defined to avoid multiplicity of efforts. Besides, the
articulation of the private sector, opinion generators, and outside institutions with the government
structure is a must. Similarly, it is crucial to eliminate micromanagement from high level officials to

News Media Bias Essay
News media has a largely, overwhelming influence on Americans in this day and age. Over the
years, audiences have been exposed to various types of broadcast journalism, each with their own
forms of bias to generate attention towards various topics. The audience perceive bias in news
media program. An in depth analysis of bias on opinionated news compared to non opinionated
news is key to figuring out how the news mediamay be sensationalizing a problem. The apparent
goal of some American news media particularly cable news shows and talk radio is to stimulate a
problem.
According to one news source, What works in cable television news is not an objective analysis
of the day s events but hard nosed, unstinting advocacy of a specific point of view on a sizzling
hot topic . Although individuals may turn on the television to get information on current events
and issues, they are likely to get the station s detailed, bias, perspective on it instead. One
instance where this has occurred is on the Bill O Reilly Show, which airs on fox. It is claimed
that 97% of the stories mentioned on the show are a result of O Reilly s own opinions and beliefs.

II.Introduction
Across the globe, the primary universal language that is accepted in English. To communicate
effectively and interact in corporate and industrial environment at international level, an effective
hold of language is must especially from students in colleges as they represent the future. But, there
are very few countries in the world which have English as their first language. Therefore a level of
difficulty arises for non native speakers of English to adjust in the international standards of the
language. Also, countries which do not have English as their first language struggle with the accent
and dialect of their individuals where culture becomes an important factor in the use of Universal
language English especially with use of slang words. This is an era of modernization and social
media, internet communication plays an important role in exposure to the western culture in other
countries of the world.
Relevance of the Research
The relevance of this research helps in analysing the formal and slang usage of English by Southeast
Asian students from exposure to western culture through different means of communication. This
study will help the researcher to understand different English colloquialisms inherited by college
students in the three countries that are involved in this study (China, Japan and Philippines). Thus,

Essay On Birthright Citizenship
Another controversial assumption made by advocates who want to see a change in birthright
citizenship is that unauthorized immigrants and their U.S. born children place a drain on many
social resources. When an unauthorized immigrant has a child born in the U.S., that child has
access to all the social resources that U.S. children born to legal citizens are entitled to. It is
believed that undocumented immigrants do not pay taxes and come to America with the sole
intentions of living on welfare. Evidence provided by the Social Security Administration,
contends that there are taxes that cannot be matched to workers names and social security
numbers. This is also known as a suspense file and it has grown by twenty billion dollars in
recent years. Migrants and undocumented immigrants contribute more in taxes and social
contributions than they will ever receive in individual benefits (Van Hook and Fix 2010).

laws are complex and providing proof of a parent s legal status at the time of the child s birth can

the need of legal services. A change in the citizenship clause will cost American households $2.4

poor because the wealthy and most middle class families would have access to a lawyer, when the

Understanding Social Influence On Online Choice
Purpose of the Study
To Switch or Not to Switch: Understanding Social Influence in Online Choice is a study that was
focused on the role of social influence in online recommender systems. Haiyi Zhu and Bernardo A.
Huberman, the authors of the study, were interested in studying how often peoples choices are
affected by other individuals endorsements. The hypothesis of the study is that individuals are more
likely to reverse their opinions when the reversion causes less self inconsistency (the confirmation
pressure is weaker) or the opposing social opinions are stronger (the conformity pressure is
stronger) .
Methodology
The researchers conducted various online experiments. The participants in the study went to the
Rankr website to select their preference of one image out of two images displayed. They first did
this with no knowledge of what people before them picked. The second time the participants had
indications of what others had chosen. The researchers were trying to determine whether seeing
other peoples preferences affected the participants choices. This setup allowed for social influence
to be measured based on if people changed their selections between the two instances. The
researchers wanted to see if the participants changed their mind after seeing what others preferred.
In addition, the researchers wanted to manipulate the pressure of social opinions by changing the
time between the two selection periods. The first time participants selected their

Flaw Wang Analysis
In the story, Flaw, Wang delivers a very light hearted text to read. But, in this text Wang connects a
lot of the story together with details of the weather that help us connect the events. Wang uses the
weather to describe how the narrator feels about the problems, while also displaying the narrators
growth throughout the story. For example, the narrator opens up each problem or event that occurs
with the description of that moments weatherand season. Although the events occur on separate
days in different seasons the problems occur always on a sunny, hot day. It seems like the hotter the
weather is the bigger the problem may be and the more emotional and grown the narrator will

Golden Retriever History: Where and When Did They Originate?
A Golden Retriever is one of the most popular and recognizable breeds of today. Its origins,
however, were a subject of debate for a very long time. Many argued that they came from a whole
pack of Russian tracker sheepdogs bought from a circus. But it wasn t until the earliest records of

The Golden Retriever is an early 19th century breed that was developed after a long line of

Ancient Egyptian Religion
Background of religion
Bordered by deserts, Egypt s Nile River valley was very isolated from other civilizations due to the
deserts surrounding them. This isolation continued for thousands of years. As a result, Egyptian
religion and culture remained almost untouched by the beliefs the other early civilizations at the
time. This religion consisted of thousands of gods and goddesses. Around these deities arose a rich
mythology formed that helped to explain the world to the early Egyptians.
Religion was organized into groups known as religious cults. These groups worshiped specific
gods who played a central role in their society.
Roll of Pharaohs in Religion
The king, or pharaoh, was a very important model in the ancient Egyptian religion. The ancient
Egyptians believed that the king was a divine link between humans and the gods. Since pharaohs
were considered to have a special relationship with the deities they had many responsibilities.
These responsibilities included asking the gods and goddesses to protect their land and to also
keep it prosperous. They were also responsible for supporting and organizing religious cults and for
building and maintaining temples dedicated to the gods.
Pharoh s believed that through this link the gods and goddesses kept order. The Pharaoh in some
ways was more important than any individual god. The ruler s official names and titles reflected
his special relationship to the deities, particularly to the sun god Ra and the sky god Horus. Some

While browsing the enormous variety of sites and home pages on the World Wide Web, it is
difficult to compare and contrast items that do not have anything in common. How can we say
the Wall Street Journal page is better than Joe s Page of Craziness? Therefore the first step in
critiquing web pages is by determining their purpose. The goal of a web page can vary from
presenting factual information such as the CIA Page, or displaying one s own computer generated

achieves its goal.

After wandering randomly on the web, thanks to a site randomizer, the site titled, Alfred
Hitchcock The Master of Suspense, caught my attention. Based on the works of Alfred
Hitchcock, the page describes his biography, his movies, and other sources of related
information. On the title page, Patricio Lopez lists many different links to more information
about Hitchcock. One link tells of Hitchcock s life, other links describe trivial aspects of his
work such as his cameos, memorable quotes, people who helped make his movies, and a guide to
his films. By briefly examining each of the links, it is apparent that Lopez has thoroughly studied
his films (on a casual level) and illustrates his knowledge throughout this site. In some of his other
links, Lopez describes himself and his fascination with the cinema and Hitchcock. Thus, Lopez is

this objective due to the detailed nature of the links and the introduction of lesser known facts,
based on his intensive study.

COMPARE AND CONTRAST BOURDIEU S APPROACH
TO THE AGENCY/STRUCTURE DICHOTOMY
WITH THAT OF GIDDENS
In recent years, several authors have attempted to deal with the problem of the relationship between
agency and social structure. This has manifested itself in the theory of structuration. Anthony
Giddens structuration theory is one of the best known and most articulated efforts to integrate
agency and structure. His theory proposes a duality of structure, in that agency and structure cannot
be seen as independent of one another. Pierre Bourdieu is another important theorist to contribute to
this agency structure debate. His theory of habitus and field is concerned principally with
overcoming the opposition between objectivism and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Giddens response to this apparent problem is to emphasize the difference between option and
feasible option (Thompson, 1989). An individual who has only one option is not an agent, for
there is no possible way in which that individual could have done otherwise. But an individual
who has only one feasible option is an agent. This is because the option is only limited to one in
that given the individual s wants and desires, there is only one option that the individual would
regard as reasonable to pursue (Thompson, 1989). A possible course of action would not be an
option for an agent if it had no relevance to anything that the agent wanted. Giddens manages to
preserve the link between structure and agency by defining agency in such a way that any
individual in any given situation could always be an agent.
The core of the structuration theory lies in the ideas of structure, system, and duality of structure.
Structure only exists in and through the activities of human agents. It is what gives form and shape
to social life, but it is not itself that form and shape. Without this structure, social systems would not
exist. Giddens does not deny the fact that structure can be constraining on action, but he feels that
sociologists have exaggerated the importance of this constraint. Furthermore, they have failed to
emphasize the fact that structure

quantity demanded.

The Transition Of Gender Roles In Melanesian Societies
A life cycle is the series of changes that enables the capacity of growth and functional activity finally
preceding death. Human life stages are highly patterned through a rite of passage , life trajectories
are punctuated by particular types of institutions, rituals and ceremonies (Van Gennep A et al 1972).
Life is about transition, rites of passage is a way to think about how these transitions connect
people in a social context to one another and co ordinate trajectories. It is assumed that these
transitions are natural due to culture (i.e. in a western society an 18th/21st birthday is assumed a
significant celebration as it is the transition from adolescence to adulthood) but these are not natural
processors, they are cultural. From generation to generation humans have mapped nature into

In Melanesian societies, gender roles have a different meaning to the Trobriand people, in their
society, the names mother and father does not necessarily mean male and female. It can be

The relationship of mother s brothers and their nieces and nephews are treated with great
familiarity, they laugh, joke and provide food where as father s sister have the opposite
relationship. In these societies, biological fathers in contrast are very severe, strict authoritative
figures (Radcliffe Brown AR et al 1935). Fathers, are treated as a source of wealth (cattle) as well

Coxswain Qualification Essay
The Coxswain qualification is one of the hardest fought for qualification of a Boatswain mates
career. For a Reservist to obtain this qualification it is even harder. The Coast Guard has tried to
ease this by allowing Reservists to attend Coxswain C school. However, while they are attending
the school, another policy is quietly wading in the waters for the perfect time to strike. This is the
policy that states that the hours these members earn while underway on a standard Coast Guard
boat, while at school, do not count towards their currency maintenance hours for the crewman
qualification that they are operating under while at the school. In District 9, most of these members
end up losing their certifications after returning to their units because there is not enough time left
in the boating season to obtain the hours they need to retain their qualification. This is causing a
time consuming process to recertify, it is demoralizing to the member, and it is a waste of Coast
Guard money. If the hours counted while at Coxswain C school for currency maintenance
requirements, the school would be more beneficial for the member and the member would be more

Taking a Look at Plastic Surgery
Plastic surgery is something the Western society is very familiar with. Billions of dollars are
spent every year on these types of procedures The oldest type of plastic surgery is reconstructive,
it developed out of need to treat wounded soldiers during wartimes and help them recover after.
This type of plastic surgeryis used to rebuild severely fractured bones, skin grafting, and
implanting prosthetics. Plastic surgery was then introduced to treat birth defects like clef lip, and
remove skin blemishes. This was the start of cosmetic plastic surgery, from the almost necessary
correction of cleft lip for children to nose jobs, face lifts, and changing size of breasts on adults.

An elder man balding may receive hair transplants to his scalp to look younger and be more
competitive in the business. Separating oneself at the workplace with plastic surgery can
almost seem necessary, A women prison officer had cosmetic dentistry because she said she
couldn t look like someone s granny if she was to keep her status with the prisoners (Jackson 3).
A true need for this type of plastic surgery is repairing clef lips for children so they can properly
eat and speak throughout their lives without being or appearing different from other children.
After surgery patients should consider follow up psychotherapy or counseling after plastic or
reconstructive surgery because of the drastic change of their bodies can affect their social
relationships. Typically children with birth defects have been the most affected in social and
schooling relationships, as well as older patients with other deformities or disfigurement (Fey 3).
There has been proof of psychological benefits from plastic surgery, Dr. Eric Finzi, proposed
that having botox can actually combat depression...if we can t physically frown, we don t feel

United States Tax Policy Essay
United States Tax Policy
Throughout history, taxation on United States citizens has proven to be a necessary component of
a growing economy as means of generating revenue for the federal budget. The federal budget funds
the many government programs implemented to keep the disabled, elderly, and unemployed from
falling bellow the poverty level. Unfortunately, this fund is not always available when catastrophic
evens, such as an economic recession, deplete the revenue coming in and create a budget deficit. In
order to regenerate money coming in and replace the deficit, the government calls on money gained
from taxes. What happens when tax money is already appropriated to other programs? A tax
reform. A tax increase has many times been the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Clearly regressive and proportional taxes present a growing problem in regard to rising poverty
rates in the United States.
Conservative vs. Liberal Ideology
As with any government program, the type of tax imposed on the taxpayers depends on the political
group currently controlling the government. With a republican president in office, we are seeing
the effects of the conservative philosophy: cut taxes and limit government involvement, thereby
decreasing poverty by stimulating economic growth. Earlier in his term, President George W. Bush
passed a major tax cut with this rational guiding his tax policy:
Lower income taxes for all, with the greatest help for those most in need. Everyone who pays
income taxes benefits while the highest percentage tax cuts go to the lowest income Americans. I
believe this is a formula for continuing the prosperity we ve enjoyed, but also expanding it in
ways we have yet to discover. It is an economics of inclusion. It is the agenda of a government that
knows its limits and shows its heart. President George W. Bush1
This may sound like a tax plan that will relieve the financial burden on lower income taxpayers,
directly benefiting the poor, but in actuality, cutting taxes for all in a regressive manner gives
substantially more money to the wealthiest taxpayers and a very small amount to lower income
taxpayers. According to his plan, a typical American family of four will be able to keep at least $1,

Tax Payer Laws And Criminal Laws
There are a lot of disorders that arose in the country we live in today and it s all because of our
corrupt system. These laws are tax payer laws and criminal laws in general. In the United States
of America, some citizens can argue that our government is fair enough when it comes to the
rate of our taxes and how the government utilizes the money that we re basically required to pay
to them. On the other hand, however, some individuals can argue that the government spends
their tax dollars on things that our nation doesn t really needs. Being citizens of this country, we
sometimes don t get an input on what the government decides to spend the money on. One
controversial topic that has been in and out of the news for the past few years is the issue of
whether or not our tax dollars should be paying for lawbreakers we have behind bars. Some say
that there are better methods for paying or there could also be less expensive punishments to get
the same job done for less. Today, whether it is federal or state jails in the United States, all jails
are paid for using American tax dollars. Some citizens are in disbelief that our country allows
this and some are furious to the fact that we basically are required to pay for the free meals and
housing for convicted felon that has previously broken the law. Paying for taxes can sometimes be
a tad bit stressful, the date April 15, for example. A lot of normal Americans who complete their
own taxes have that date steam pressed into the

Biological Compounds Of Marine Organisms Essay
Biologically active compounds found in marine organisms have been extremely useful when
combating again human immunodeficiency virus. One compound in particular which is found in
sponges, Papuamide A, has been reported to have cytoprotective activity against HIV 1 in vitro.
There are many other representatives that can be found in the same class as Papuamide A; however,
due to the slight change in their structure, the way they effect HIVis different. Papuamide A exhibits
a potent inhibitory effect on the infection of T Lymphoblastoid cells by HIV and has been able to
combat against drug resistant HIV strains.
Introduction. Human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV 1) has infected over 33.2 million people
world wide to date [9]. There is a plethora of new and upcoming drugs that are being used to
combat against human immunodeficiency virus. Although effective, the drugs that are being used
to combat against HIV 1 have also been known to cause resistance, adverse effects and toxicity to
the mitochondria [3]. HIV 1 is a retrovirus that belongs to a subfamily of retroviruses called
lentiviruses [8]. HIV 1 causes a slow depletion of the immune system and is considered a slow
degenerative disease. New drugs that combat against HIV 1 entering into different cells has raised

Lord Of The Flies Corruptal Analysis
The Lord of the Flies written by William Golding is a popular novel that deals with many themes.
The theme I will talk about is how humans and human nature can easily be corrupted by
surrounding influences and themselves. Simon is corrupted by the natural environment and the
nature of people around him. In contrast, there is Jack who was only corrupted by his obsessions.
Also, Ralph became morally corrupted after a combination of spending time with Jack s group and
being by himself. The Lordof the Flies shows that anyone can be corrupted by circumstance
especially if left alone. Simon is corrupted by uncontrollable forces like nature and the actions of
the people around him. In the beginning of The Lord of the Flies, Simon is the positive and helpful
character: Simon found for [the litteuns] the fruit they could not reach, pulled off the choicest from
up in the foliage, passed them back down to the endless, outstretched hands (Golding, 57). In this
quote, Simon helps out the littleuns which none of the other biguns on the island do, showing his
kindness and compassion. However, later in the novel, that kindness and compassion is eroded
when he is laughed at for his honest suggestion: What s the dirtiest thing there is? .... Simon s effort
fell about him in ruins; the laughter beat him cruelly and he shrank away... Show more content on

After Simon split from the group, he experienced the most corruption culminating with an
imaginary Lord of the Flies. Jack was the physical form of the Lord of the Flies, after his obsession
with hunting leads him to become the most corrupted on the island. After spending too much time
hunting with Jack and being by himself, Ralph started to slide down a slippery slope culminating
with a brutal assault on another survivor. In conclusion, The Lord of the Flies shows that the world
of children is not as innocent as it

Sex Offenders Should Be Strict
Do you feel safe sending your children out in a neighborhood with registered sexual offenders?
Is the government doing enough to protect our children and ourselves from these dangers? In
2003 78,188 children fell victim to forms of sexual abuse (Finkelhor). We should be protecting
our children, 1 in 4 women and 1 in 6 men will experience some kind of sexual assault in their
lifetime, also 67% of sexual assaults have victims under the age of 18, ( Dru Sjodin National Sex
OffenderWebsite. ). Nationwide, sex offenders were four times more likely to reoffend, and be
rearrested for a sexual related crime. Because the recidivism rate is so high, and because we must
protect our citizens, sex offender laws should remain strict.
The restrictions ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They believe that the residency restriction laws force former offenders into exile, and often into
homelessness. ( Sex Offender Issues ). Sexual offenders are forced to live far away from family
members and friends, often times for small offenses or something they committed years ago. It
should not matter how long ago one offended, the key word is that they did offend. Some say,
the registry is nothing more than a Scarlet Letter to put people to shame ( US: Sex Offender
Laws May Do More Harm Than Good. ). The people who get put onto the registry have
committed a terrible crime; they deserve the humiliation they may receive. Many claim that we
treat those on the registry list with disrespect and fear and this open information can put the
offenders family in danger for ridicule and isolation as well. ( IX. Residency Restriction Laws. )
The family of an offender should be embarrassed by their son or daughter s behavior towards
other human beings. Jamie Fellner, director of the US program at Human Rights Watch, says,
The public believes everyone on a sex offender registry is dangerous. But what s the point of
requiring registration by a teenager who exposed himself as a high school prank or even by
someone who molested a child 30 years ago? ( US: Sex Offender Laws May Do More Harm
Than Good. ). Kids need to learn the severity to exposing themselves; being forced to sign up for
the registry serves as the punishment, hopefully enabling more kids to stop and think before they
act. Many argue that the registration poses an issue with the job market. It is extremely difficult
for an offender on the registry to find a suitable job, no one wants an offender in their workplace
and they don t want that bad publicity. It becomes difficult to oneself when one can not find a job
and may have been just released from prison, therefore many

The Ballad Of The White Horse
In The Ballad of the White Horse by G. K. Chesterton one of the main characters is King Alfred
of England, the legendary savior of England from the invading Danes. The book is set in the
ninth century AD. He is accompanied in battle by Eldred, a Saxon farmer, as well as Mark, a
Roman, and Colan, a Celt. While Alfred originally feels despair over his efforts to drive away the
Danes, the Blessed Virgin Mary appears to him in a vision and tells him that he is to continue. G.
K. Chesterton named the book after a symbol in England, a white horse cut out chalk that must
constantly be cleaned of encroaching weeds. To him, it symbolizes Christianity s struggle against
eroding pagan forces. The ballad questions and discusses the opposing worldviews... Show more

One group of Danes, represented by Harold, went into battle and conquered in the hopes of
gaining earthly pleasures, without regard for others. Another group, represented by Elf, kept
alive the old tales of the gods, but despaired at the real presence of sin and inevitable destruction.
Taking a dark spin on this, Ogier believes in total destruction and hatred of creation as the forces
that drive the world. Guthrum rejects all three views, but does not know what to replace them
with, revealing his lack of understanding of the meaning of life. However, Alfred answers all
three views in his harp song of the Christian worldview. Harold s false pleasures are compared to
the simple joy of the monk and Elf s despair is opposed to the perseverance and ultimate hope of
the Christians though defeated. In addition, Ogier s idea of hatred of creation as the driving force
of the universe is disproved by Alfred quoting God calling creation good, and he is told that this
destruction will lead to an end of the Danes, because only Christians will protect civilization. King
Alfred s song also compares King Guthrum to himself, stating that

His poetry turns into a living anthem of a self. 4 However, his family life becomes totally
disordered. He marries Marion Morehouse before he gets a divorce from Anne Barton, his

to comprehend. Meanwhile, the idea of uniqueness of an individual lives through his works.
Technically, individuality is at the core of Cummings experiments with word coinings,
innovations with typography, and punctuation that make Cummings literature, especially his
poetry look and sound different 5. His extraordinary style of writing, which represents his
individuality, is clearly present at Buffalo Bill s and from spiraling ecstatically this. To
understand his poetry on a deeper level it may be necessary to review each technique separately,
plus look at the emotions that appear inside a reader as the poem is read. Very often in his
poetry Cummings uses line breaks to emphasize a line or an episode, which is usually a central
idea of a poem. Separated lines in the poem from spiraling ecstatically this create in reader the

  • 2. Bona Fide Occupational Qualification Essay Bona fide occupational qualification and the military Title VII of the 1964 civil rights act prohibits employment discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex and national origin. Contrary to title VII, gender and religion under the bona fide occupational qualification allows discrimination for certain jobs that calls for a particular group, age limit etc. An example of a company using bona fide occupational qualification in the United States Military. Every day bona fide occupational qualification is used in the United States military to decline thousands of applicants daily because of their age. The age limit for joining the navy is 34 for active duty and 39 for applicants attempting to join the reserves. Because of the physical demand of basic training and the life of military personnel, the navy set 34 as their minimum age where they ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The argument against women serving in the elite navy seal units is that women are not able to meet the physical standards that are required by the Special Forces. Reports in basic training has shown that women are able to meet and exceed the swimming, running and push ups when they are placed in advanced divisions. A second argument that is made is that the price tag to send women to Basic Underwater Demolition School or buds, would cost millions of dollars a year. The answer to this argument is to change the training pipeline to mirror the men. Before any male is sent to Buds, they must pass pre buds in basic training. If the trainee doesn t pass pre buds they are reassigned into another job or discharged from active duty. Women have served in combat roles for the last 25 years, including the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. Now it s time to give them the opportunity to serve as navy seals by striking down outdates restrictions and perceptions of women ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This research paper I provide facts, studies about lesbian parenting, and homosexual parenting being just as accurate as heterosexual parenting. I also explain how lesbian marriage acceptance is the first step to a great parenting for a child. A key factor that can help financially, mentally, and socially. Within our own community acceptance most people are prejudice to those who don t follow the norm. In this essay I provide facts of pure rejection and overcoming, stories told by those who lived with LGBT parents, and studies proving that there is no true difference in the parenting and in some cases the LGBT parent can be better. Even though marriage was prohibited for almost 30 more years after these incidents Vermont s high court provided the benefits to homosexual couples through the Vermont s civil program in 2000. Still not recognize as a legal opportunity provided by the state the marital segregation stopped when Massachusetts offered same sex marriage licenses. Most of the community didn t like the fact of homosexuality being supported in their homeland. After Massachusetts kindness and support homosexuals took a hard hit in 2004 when thirteen states banned them from getting married. The issue pits left against right and, perhaps more significant, odd against young: Americans over age forty four oppose same sex marriage by a decisive majority, but a plurality of Americans under age thirty support it. A problem this big on marriage has not come to pass since the states were at odds over interracial marriage. Not only is it a civil rights issue but there is a wonder if same sex couple s can raise a child. In the census of 2000, 599,000 same sex couples live together and within that the estimate of children 166,000. One of the problems is that the child to mostly one of theirs or only one of them gave birth to it. One of the pros above same sex marriage would reflect on others to support marriage ... Model Based Testing For Software Development Model Based Testing (MBT) Test Next Symposium 2014 Author: Amaresh Mohanty Email: amaresh_mohanty@optum.com Hyderabad Site I UnitedHealth Group, Building #14, Raheja IT Park, Mindspace, Hyderabad This white paper provides an overview of MBT. The model driven approach to software development has not only changed the way software systems are built and maintained but also the way they are tested. Model based testing approach is much recommended since it is aligned with the new model driven development paradigm that favors models over code with the objective being to reduce time to market while improving product quality. Though a lot of advancements have been done in formal methods and verification techniques, still we need software to be fully tested before it could be handled to the customer. Thus there are a number of testing techniques and tools made to accomplish the task. Software testing is an important area of research and a lot of development has been made in this field and gaining more and more importance in the future. Test automation has been done to reduce the cost of testing. Traditionally the test automation has been focused mainly on automating the test management and test execution. Unfortunately, the test design often still remains a manual activity. The test design itself concerns making the decisions on (1) What to and what not to test (2) How to stimulate the system and with what data values (3) How the system should react and respond to the stimuli The test design is therefore a separate task from test execution and is done before executing the tests against the system. So even still today, automated tests are too often created and executed only for regression, not really to find defects in the new functionality. Traditional, manual ... • 7. On the Entrapment and Incarceration of the Victorian... Thomas Blackburn describes the two Victorian poets, Robert Browning and Alfred, Lord Tennyson as being great contemporaries (47). As such it is apt that their works should muse upon and explore similar topics and themes. Their connection is especially evident in Browning s My Last Duchess and Tennyson s The Lady of Shalott . The themes of entrapment and incarceration feature heavily in both of these works. Specifically, it is the entrapment and incarceration of women which pervade their respective compositions. When taking into consideration the way in which women were viewed at this juncture in history being nothing more than beautiful objects (Gilbert and Gubar 54), it is quite easy to see how the literary representations of the... While the Duke of Ferrara never explicitly verbalizes the Duchess fate, it is strongly implied that she died as a result of her inability to conform to his model of appropriate behaviour: And if she let Herself be lessoned so, nor plainly set Her wits to yours, forsooth, and made excuse E en then would be some stooping; and I choose Never to stoop. Oh sir, she smiled, no doubt, Whene er I passed her; but who passed without Much the same smile? This grew; I gave commands; Then all smiles stopped together. There she stands As if alive (Browning, My Last Duchess, lines 39 47) Thus the Duchess is bound to the Duke and has become imprisoned within his art collection as nothing more than a possession. The Duke exemplifies this view when he makes reference to another piece of his art collection, as if the current and previous subjects of his monologue were completely analogous, Notice Neptune, though/ Taming a sea horse, thought a rarity/ Which Claus of Innsbruck cast in bronze for me! (Browning 54 56), he truly appreciates both pieces with similar enthusiasm. Although the Duchess is allocated no space to give her side of the story, through the Duke s depiction the reader can infer that she was killed for having her own free will and as such there is zero doubt that she is a victim of imprisonment of the Duke s egocentric ideals. • 8. The Great War Between Western Powers There are views that the mainstream theories are chronologically underdeveloped. They insist that there are trans historical concepts that allow us to identify universal regularities. There is privileging of European experience in our IR understanding. It is suggested that once we divert our attention from Europe, truisms in mainstream IRT is questionable, despite their long establishment. (Buzan Little, 2000) The mainstream theory of Realism, Liberalism and their neo counterparts were formulated with and grounded in Western History. It can be said that in the gradual formulation of International Relations theories, scholars have largely ignored the historical, cultural and social context of different regions outside Europe and America. Liberalism has pacific historic origins as a reaction to the huge casualties and damage caused by the First World War in the western world. It aspires to promote peace through international cooperation. However, this theory simplified international relations too much to the extent that it focused on the great war between western powers. Major strands of Realism emerged at the end of Pelopponesian War and the Cold Warin the eyes of Thucydides and Morgenthau, respectively (Dunne, et. al, 2007). While the hegemonic stability thesis espoused by neo realists has a (western) post cold war background of the demise of Soviet Union and the emergence of United States as a global hegemon. • 9. Why Did The Comanche Tribes Gain Their Power The Comanche were one of the most powerful Indian tribes that America has ever seen. They stopped the Spanish from expanding to the north and farther into America. However they weren t always that way. S.W. Gwynne compared them to a young, bullied boy who grew into a strong, vengeful man. There were quite a few different factors that made the Comanche evolve into this powerhouse in the west. The Comanche were able to hold this power for some time, that is, until things took a turn for the worse, and they were forced to surrender and their power was gone. Before exploring how the Comanche gained their power, one must look into the history of the Comanche tribe. The word comes from a Ute word meaning anyone who wants to fight me all the time. • 11. The Development Of Decision Making The Development of Decision Making in Nursing Nursing is a profession that has traditionally attracted individuals who have a desire to help others and have an interest in the health sciences (Ruesink, 2012). In the complex world of health care, good intentions only go so far in terms of client safety, quality of care, and achieving the best possible outcomes, and that is why critical thinking, decision making, and evidence based practice are crucial to the nursing profession when acting on the behalf of our clients (Fero, Witsberger, Wesmiller, Zullo, Hoffman, 2009; Ruesink, 2012; Thompson, Aitken, Doran, Dowding, 2013). The College of Registered Nurses of British Columbia (CRNBC), defines Clinical decision making as: A complex and dynamic process, occurring within a larger context and drawing from various dimensions of knowledge, in which nurses collect and organize information in order to form conclusions and choose actions, with the intent of creating the best outcomes for clients (2014, slide 19). The nursing profession demands a high standard of quality and safety, compelling nurses to act professionally, be accountable for their own actions, and embrace their Professional Standards (CRNBC, 2013). The CRNBC Professional Standards requires nurses to know where to access information to support their knowledge to deliver evidence based, competent nursing care, as well as use decision making tools to guide their assessments, diagnoses, and treatments (2013). For nurses to make clinical decisions that enhance a client s health, promote realistic solutions, and reduce potential risks, decision making and critical thinking must happen in sync (Fero et al., 2009; Standing, 2005). To support critical thinking in nursing practice, and help novice nurses compensate for the lack of clinical experience, decision making models have been constructed to help navigate the multi dimensional complexities of the ... The main utilizations include food use, commercial use (whale watching), animal feed and fertilizer use, cosmetic use, and pharmaceutical use. While not popular in most countries, countries like Alaska, Iceland, Norway, and Japan have whale meat on their menus. There are also other indigenous people and people in Inuit tribes who depend on whale meat as their main source of food. In my opinion, every species, including humans, is a part of the food chain. Whether or not humans are at the top of the food chain isn t what is important when it comes to the relationship between us and whales. We have the technology and intelligence to kill whales and use them at important resources, including food, wax (for candles and cosmetics), and pharmaceuticals. We should be taking every advantage we get to further develop our knowledge of whale oil, meat, and cartilage. I believe that we should use every opportunity to better our lives, but that does not include kill whales recreationally. There is no excuse for that, just like there is no excuse for kills of dogs, zebras, or pandas. Unless it is for survival, no one should be killing an animal for fun. That saying, there is a point when we will have to stop commercial whaling. The whale population has been an interesting trend to research. Whale population has been very high and very low in the past couple centuries. My opinion is that we should have a set number of whales that we can take out of the ocean each year. In addition to that, When an individuals strive to become better than they were, everything around them becomes better too. The theme of the poem and the book encourage humanity that If humanity recognize that they could be better then become better, don t settle. Don t be the same. Be better. One way in which Santiago reflects the theme is when he meets the crystal merchant and helped him in the shop so much that it became the best crystal shop ever. For instance, in the book, it says, Crystal Merchant: I ve had this shop for thirty years. I know good crystal from bad, and everything else there is to know about crystal. Knowledge gives power, but when that knowledge costs even a couple of cents, no consumer wants to pay for it. Why? Because new media gives people a free way to send knowledge and information. But it wasn t until the earliest records of its history came out in 1952 that a Golden Retriever had an origin to look back into. Time to set the record straight. The Golden Retriever is an early 19th century breed that was developed after a long line of breeding from the Irish setter, Tweed water spaniel and Newfoundland dogs, with a goal to develop a hunting dog that has the size, endurance and ability to retrieve a large number of game ... This isolation continued for thousands of years. As a result, Egyptian religion and culture remained almost untouched by the beliefs the other early civilizations at the time. This religion consisted of thousands of gods and goddesses. Around these deities arose a rich mythology formed that helped to explain the world to the early Egyptians. Religion was organized into groups known as religious cults. These groups worshiped specific gods who played a central role in their society. Roll of Pharaohs in Religion The king, or pharaoh, was a very important model in the ancient Egyptian religion. The ancient Egyptians believed that the king was a divine link between humans and the gods. Since pharaohs were considered to have a special relationship with the deities they had many responsibilities. These responsibilities included asking the gods and goddesses to protect their land and to also keep it prosperous. They were also responsible for supporting and organizing religious cults and for building and maintaining temples dedicated to the gods. Pharoh s believed that through this link the gods and goddesses kept order. The Pharaoh in some ways was more important than any individual god. Web Page Analysis Essay Web Page Analysis While browsing the enormous variety of sites and home pages on the World Wide Web, it is difficult to compare and contrast items that do not have anything in common. How can we say the Wall Street Journal page is better than Joe s Page of Craziness? Therefore the first step in critiquing web pages is by determining their purpose. The goal of a web page can vary from presenting factual information such as the CIA Page, or displaying one s own computer generated art. Hence, the only way to judge a page is by examining what it tries to accomplish, and how it achieves its goal. After wandering randomly on the web, thanks to a site randomizer, the site titled, Alfred Hitchcock The Master of Suspense, caught my attention. Based on the works of Alfred Hitchcock, the page describes his biography, his movies, and other sources of related information. On the title page, Patricio Lopez lists many different links to more information about Hitchcock. One link tells of Hitchcock s life, other links describe trivial aspects of his work such as his cameos, memorable quotes, people who helped make his movies, and a guide to his films. By briefly examining each of the links, it is apparent that Lopez has thoroughly studied his films (on a casual level) and illustrates his knowledge throughout this site. In some of his other links, Lopez describes himself and his fascination with the cinema and Hitchcock. Thus, Lopez is trying to inform visitors about Hitchcock s life and work. In addition, the site successfully achieves this objective due to the detailed nature of the links and the introduction of lesser known facts, based on his intensive study. After a more incisive inspection of the various links and the information contained within, I began to evaluate the organization of the site. COMPARE AND CONTRAST BOURDIEU S APPROACH TO THE AGENCY/STRUCTURE DICHOTOMY WITH THAT OF GIDDENS In recent years, several authors have attempted to deal with the problem of the relationship between agency and social structure. This has manifested itself in the theory of structuration. Anthony Giddens structuration theory is one of the best known and most articulated efforts to integrate agency and structure. His theory proposes a duality of structure, in that agency and structure cannot be seen as independent of one another. Pierre Bourdieu is another important theorist to contribute to this agency structure debate. His theory of habitus and field is concerned principally with overcoming the opposition between objectivism and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Giddens response to this apparent problem is to emphasize the difference between option and feasible option (Thompson, 1989). An individual who has only one option is not an agent, for there is no possible way in which that individual could have done otherwise. But an individual who has only one feasible option is an agent. This is because the option is only limited to one in that given the individual s wants and desires, there is only one option that the individual would regard as reasonable to pursue (Thompson, 1989). A possible course of action would not be an option for an agent if it had no relevance to anything that the agent wanted. Giddens manages to preserve the link between structure and agency by defining agency in such a way that any individual in any given situation could always be an agent. The core of the structuration theory lies in the ideas of structure, system, and duality of structure. Structure only exists in and through the activities of human agents. It is what gives form and shape to social life, but it is not itself that form and shape. Without this structure, social systems would not exist. Giddens does not deny the fact that structure can be constraining on action, but he feels that sociologists have exaggerated the importance of this constraint. Furthermore, they have failed to emphasize the fact that structure ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Human life stages are highly patterned through a rite of passage , life trajectories are punctuated by particular types of institutions, rituals and ceremonies (Van Gennep A et al 1972). Life is about transition, rites of passage is a way to think about how these transitions connect people in a social context to one another and co ordinate trajectories. It is assumed that these transitions are natural due to culture (i.e. in a western society an 18th/21st birthday is assumed a significant celebration as it is the transition from adolescence to adulthood) but these are not natural processors, they are cultural. For a Reservist to obtain this qualification it is even harder. The Coast Guard has tried to ease this by allowing Reservists to attend Coxswain C school. However, while they are attending the school, another policy is quietly wading in the waters for the perfect time to strike. This is the policy that states that the hours these members earn while underway on a standard Coast Guard boat, while at school, do not count towards their currency maintenance hours for the crewman qualification that they are operating under while at the school. In District 9, most of these members end up losing their certifications after returning to their units because there is not enough time left in the boating season to obtain the hours they need to retain their qualification. This is causing a time consuming process to recertify, it is demoralizing to the member, and it is a waste of Coast Guard money. The theme I will talk about is how humans and human nature can easily be corrupted by surrounding influences and themselves. Simon is corrupted by the natural environment and the nature of people around him. In contrast, there is Jack who was only corrupted by his obsessions. Also, Ralph became morally corrupted after a combination of spending time with Jack s group and being by himself. The Lordof the Flies shows that anyone can be corrupted by circumstance especially if left alone. Simon is corrupted by uncontrollable forces like nature and the actions of the people around him. In the beginning of The Lord of the Flies, Simon is the positive and helpful character: Simon found for [the litteuns] the fruit they could not reach, pulled off the choicest from up in the foliage, passed them back down to the endless, outstretched hands (Golding, 57).
