Malnutrition Informative Speech

Informative Paper
English Comp. 1
Mr. Broadfoot 20th of November 2012
Malnutrition Around the World For most us Americans, knowing when we re going to eat next is
something we very rarely think of, and when we do think about being hungry we still know where our
food is coming from. Three big meals a day, and a few snacks in between, is how most of us live. It s
hard for us to imagine what its like for those who go days eating very little or nothing at all. But
unfortunately that s how it is for most of the world and surprisingly it happens in the United Sates as
well. There are many reasons malnutrition can happen, and it happens to every age group. Even
though there are many ways to treat it, in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The ten states who felt it the most were Mississippi, New Mexico, Texas, South Carolina, Louisiana,
Oklahoma, Utah, Arkansas, Kentucky, and Arizona. (Haerens 36) While there are malnourished
people in America, it is much worse all around the world, mostly in third world countries. There are
three predominate reasons why third world countries are hit hard with malnutrition, 1) poor families
aren t given government help, 2) difficulties with economy and 3) higher food prices. ( 2012 World
Hunger... ) As stated in the website 2012 World Hunger and Poverty Facts and Statistics, in the world
there are 925 million hungry people, most of them in Asia, the Pacific and Africa. These people live
on $1.25 or less a day. Minimum wage is $7.25 in the U.S., and most people work 8 hours a day, so
that means they would be getting fifty eight dollars a day. It would take someone in a third world
country about forty seven days to make what someone makes in America in 8 hours. And most of
them spend that money on food and medical needs, but $1.25 is not enough. In the United States if a
family doesn t have enough money for medical help, they can still go see a doctor, but in other
countries it s very different. More than 30,000 children die per year from preventable sickness because
they can t go see a doctor. And as for food, Americans have access to food every hour of the day. The
wealthiest 5th of the world consumes 86% of all goods, as stated in Child Welfare League of

Ethics... are nothing but reverence for life. This is what gives me the fundamental principle of
morality, namely, that good consists in maintaining, promoting, and enhancing life, and that
destroying, injuring, and limiting life are evil. This definition of ethics was from the German
physician, theologian, and medical missionary Albert Schweitzer who was awarded the 1952 Nobel
Peace Prize1. Ethics are the principles that govern the behavior of society. It is a topic of discussion
that affects all of humanity regardless of age, race or generation. In essence, it is the guide by which
individuals determine right from wrong.
Several professions have developed codes of ethics that define the behavior expected of their cohorts.

Comprehension of the information provided is the second requirement to achieve informed consent3.
If patients do not understand the information, then they cannot truly make informed medical decisions.
Patients who are incompetent due to age or mental disability may have a third party make medical
decisions on their behalf. These individuals must be able to understand the situation and act in the best
interest of the patient. Lastly, the patient must agree to the therapy voluntarily3. Patients must be
protected from coercion or pressures that could cause them to enter into treatment that they do not
want. Only after these requirements are met should the patient initiate the proposed therapy. Informed
consent is essential to building a strong provider patient relationship based on trust and respect.
This paper will examine a situation where multiple ethical concepts are at play, identify several
courses of action, and draw conclusions in accordance with the pharmacists code of ethics. The ethical
dilemma arises when a patient makes suboptimal medical decisions after being given all of the
information necessary to fulfill the requirements of informed consent. The scenario is as follows:
Mrs. Jones is a patient with type 2 diabetes mellitus. She presents to the ambulatory clinic today after
being referred by her physician. Mrs. Jones reports that she is keeping her diabetes under control with
diet and exercise. In the lab data sent by the physician it says that Mrs. Jones s

Futuristic Rights In Blade Runner
Futuristic Rights Manmade beings were created as slaves for humanity. These beings are called
replicants. Blade Runner, a science fiction film set in the future, brings up a question about the
replicants humanity and their rights. As the replicants are able to think as a human would and seem to
feel emotions like a human, their rights are hard to acknowledge. Created to fulfill the will of
mankind, they only know a life without choices and opinions. This causes them to have certain desires
that seem very humanistic in nature. All though they possess humanoid characteristics, replicants have
a shorter life span than humans. This drives the plot of the film as some replicants hunt down their
creators to try and make themselves more human while others do not even realize they are replicants.
Pris and Roy are a couple that works together seeking their creators so that they do not have to die in
the measly sum of four bleak years. Rachael is a female replicant who does not know that she is a
replicant until Decker, a man in charge of hunting down and killing the replicants, tells her that she is
not human. Replicants should be allowed minimal human rights due to their ability to think, feel, and
reason as a human would.
With emotions acute to humanity, replicants grieve and feel compassion. Throughout the movie, the
replicants clearly show their feelings. The strongest among the emotions portrayed by the replicants
are fear, grief, and compassion. Fear is shown while they

Rising College Tuition in America
Rising College Tuition in America College Prices Soar Again! Budget Cuts Cause Even Higher
Tuition! Higher Education Now Even Less Affordable These are all statements that have been seen all
over the media: newspapers, magazines, television, and radio. (3 SV: SV) Rising college tuition in
America has been a problem for years. Many students drop out after a single year due to the pricey
costs of tuition. The rapid rise can be attributed to many aspects of the economy, not just a single
source. There have also been some propositions of how costs could be lowered, but these have yet to
be seen. The United States has gone into a tuition crisis. Tuition rates have been on the rise since the
start of colleges. In 1988, the average college tuition was about $2,800 for a year of schooling. In
2008, that number had risen 130% to nearly $6,800 for one year; according to Annalyn Censky of
CNN Money, if the average income had raised the same amount, median family earning would be
roughly $77,000 a year, instead of the current $33,000. Americans are making $400 less on average
than they did in 1988 says Censky. Over the past twenty years, college has risen 5% of the median
family income from 12% to 17%; private colleges went from 27% to 47% says Economist.com. (1
SV; SV.) Tuition isn t the only thing rising at colleges: room, meals, books, and other fees are rising as
well. (4 SV: A,B,C,D.) This also takes its toll on families as well as the students themselves. Many

Aristocracy And Monarchy
As time passed government has been around for a long time. Government from the start of it there
have been different forms of it. Some of this forms is that Democracy, Aristocracy, and Monarchy.
From the day these governments were first established they are still being used in president day. With
democracy in the United States, Aristocracy in the United Kingdom, and with Monarchy in Kingdom
of England. There have been different types of government which is Democracy, Aristocracy, and
Kingdom which is also called a Monarchy. Democracy is when the government is ruled by its people
of the nation. Aristocracy is when the government is rule by a powerful group of people mainly the
wealthy class. Monarchy is when the nation is ruled by Kings and Queens. When the direction of all
depends on one person, we call this individual a king, and this form of political constitution a
kingdom. When it is in the power of privileged delegates, the State is said to be ruled by an
aristocracy; ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

nor, in my opinion, essentially good, but tolerable (Cicero XXV). In Hobbes point in view he claims

Iran Is An Islamic Sponsored Religion
The examination of the functionings of religious states is best done by using two of the most well
known nations with a state sponsored religion; Israel and Iran. Their respective religions, Jewish and
Islamic, govern their state s policy and everyday life, allowing for a comprehensive comparison
regarding the impact on democracy. Israel and Iran have long been at odds politically, so this
comparison between the two will highlight the way the two states have dealt with their religious base.
Iran is an Islamic sponsored state, with most of their political system revolving around the religious
leaders. Israel is a Jewish state with a large secular citizenry to match the religious base, causing the
political structure of the state to take a different approach to governing. Israel s more secular and
inclusive structure of government has allowed for a greater development of democracy, compared to
Iran s highly religious and non inclusive governmental setup which has led to a theocracy disguised as
a democratic state. Iran s political and social landscape completely shifted in 1979 when the Islamic
Revolution toppled the monarchy that was in power. It was decided that Iran would now be a republic
built on Islamic principles and ideals, thus marginalizing the leftist nationalist party that had helped
the religious right protest against the Shah s rule in 1978 and 1979. The new constitution created a
religious government based on [Ayatollah] Khomeini s vision of velāyat e faqīh

Research Paper On The Five People You Meet In Heaven
The Five People You Meet in Heaven The Five People You Meet in Heaven is an amazing book that
shows how every life is connected, and that every life matters. The Five People You Meet in Heaven is
a book about an older man named Eddie who is a maintenance worker for an amusement park called
Ruby Pier where he works all of his life and his dad before him. Ruby Pier was built some seventy
five years ago and has changed immensely since it was built. The Five People You Meet in Heaven
describes heaven as meeting five people who impacted your life or you impacted theirs and teach you
a lesson. The first person Eddie meets is a man named Joseph Corvelzchik better known as the Blue
Man Eddie did not know the Blue Man very well but Eddie killed him accidentally and Eddie had no
idea he killed him. When Eddie was younger his brother and him were playing catch and Joe, Eddie s
brother, threw the ball over Eddie s and Eddie instinctively turned to go get the ball and was almost hit
by a car who swerved out of the way to avoid hitting Eddie. The man driving the car was the Blue
Man who swerved around Eddie and swerved around another car eventually swerving down an
alleyway and dying of a heart attack. The Blue Man is a great example of how every life is connected
in some way Eddie just a little boy killed the Blue Man, Joseph, and had no idea he killed him until he
himself died.

The Business s Planning And Control Policy
BUDGETING
In the most recent years budgets are considered to be one of the key factors about the business s
planning and control policy (Thomas, 1983, p. 133). Financial budgets show the business s strategy
concerning the following year compiled by financial statements, plus they are supposed to be the
policy used in order to evaluate the managerial performance and be the principle of the management
system (ibid). Budgets are considered to be attached to the concept of control.
It is really essential that firms create a written project that formulates which will be the objectives of
the company, what kind of strategies should be followed and what outcomes are more likely, also
known as performance targets (Merchant Van der Stede, 2012, p.306). According to Drury (2004, p.
593) budgeting is affected by the fulfillment of the deep rooted plan for the following year and, due to
the shorter preparation boundary, budgets are supposed to be accurate and particularized. Budgets are
a straightforward evidence of what should be anticipated to be accomplished throughout the duration
of the budget period.
According to Hansen and Mowen (2003, p.992) Budgetary slack is the process of padding the budget
by overestimating costs and underestimating revenues . Managers and workers in a firm need to be
encouraged to participate in the budget. There are two main ways in which the participation in the
budget takes place: the first one is the top down approach, in which the managers give

Grandmother Got Run Over The Christmas Tree Analysis
It was weeks before Christmas, when all through the house there was a mess that needed to be upped
and oust.
And what to mine eyes did appear, here and there boxes were everywhere.
So, Dad in his office working and I, Mom in the laundry room laundering, did nothing with those
boxes.
We did stop and stare on our way, to and fro. However, those silly boxes just sat there and mocked us.
Meanwhile, up stairs the windows were bare all but one, which did have a few cling on decorations
hanging there.
Then on the floor for all to see, there were some more decorations of a special kind, they played music
of various kinds.

Then there was the tree, there it was, right there in the box. It sat there looking lonely like it wanted to
be a big tree with lights and tiny hand made decorations. Maybe an angel or a star on top and to
complete the trimmings the tree s skirt right at the bottom.
Sadly, this year would be without, so there in box, stood the tree and that is where it would be.

Csikszentmihalyi s Happiness Revisited
Authored by Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi, Happiness Revisited is a study on happiness and creativity.
Csikszentmihalyi defines happiness in terms of how we achieve it. He suggests that people achieve
happiness not by trying to look for it directly (609) but by looking for it directly. He also added that by
achieving control over the contents of our consciousness (609), a circuitous path begins, thus the
beginning of achieving happiness. Further, Csikszentmihalyi stated that just like happiness, success is
not to be pursued but ensued. This statement is ideally illustrated by Viktor Frankl s book on Man s
Search for meaning: Don t aim at success the more you aim at it and make it a target, the more you are
going to miss it (609). As quoted by Csikszentmihalyi that people often end up feeling that their lives
have been wasted, and instead of being filled with happiness their years were spent in anxiety and
boredom (608). He added that despite the comfort of today s modern living; the contentment does not

U-Boat Tactics in World War II
In September of 2012, Germany s last surviving U Boat captain who helped sink dozens of U.S. and
British ships has been honoured by the modern military in his homeland seven decades after he was
twice decorated by Hitler for bravery. It may seem grim to honor a person who referred to American
shooting season as his hobby during the war, but it is important to recognize the contributions of U
Boat commanders like Reinhard Hardegen. German submarines had been an engineering vision since
1465, and preliminary German submarines were being manufactured as early as 1850 with Sebastian
Wilhelm Valentin Bauer s Brandtaucher design. The Brandtaucher was much improved upon during
the Industrial Age, which represented the peak of Kaiserdom in Germany. With its financial coffers
relatively full, the Kaiser was able to fund designs such as those by Vogel in 1870 and Howaldt in
1891. However, Gustav Zede designed the Forelle (named after the much beloved German trout fish)
and it was the first truly successful German submarine and was launched in 1903. From these early
submarines evolved one of the world s most evocative killing machines, the U Boats. Leading up to
the development of the U Boat were a series of military escalations, culminating in the start of the
Great War. Throughout modern German history, military technologies like the U Boat have been
integral to strategic planning. Even when decisions regarding U Boat development and deployment
seemed senseless, as it

Corrie Ten Boom
The theme of selfless service and unflinching love in the face of persecution dominates the work of
Corrie ten Boom in THE HIDING PLACE. Through the lens of her Christian upbringing, ten Boom
articulately recounts her life s journey from a small child living in a bustling Dutch city to a vapid,
malnourished prisoner of the German Nazis. Through her life s struggle, she hopes to inspire others
and teach a new generation about the value of life and the innate capacity that all possess to fully love
one another.
THE HIDING PLACE recounts Corrie ten Boom s intriguing life story. Casper ten Boom and
Cornelia ten Boom were married and started a family in the late 1800s in Haarlem, Holland. Cornelia

This visit marked a turning point for Corrie. Through the Bulldog s anecdotes of harassment and
difficulty, she was able to personalize the wrath of the German soldiers. She experienced first hand the
effects that the persecution had on Haarlem s Jews. Over the next few weeks, Jews began furtively
arriving at the Beje under the cover of night in order to escape their captors. Corrie, Betsie, and their
father welcomed these new guests with open arms, but the ten Booms knew that the Jews would not
be able to stay for very long. Ration cards were scarce and food would soon run out. Corrie turned to
her brother Willem, who worked with the Underground Resistance. Willem arranged for the
transportation of the Jews to the countryside, but Corrie knew that his help would only last for so long.
For her to be successful at helping the Jews, she needed to make her own connections and arrange her
own system of dealings. She arranged for ration cards to be dropped off at the Beje, kept in contact
with the Resistance s top leaders, and had alarm systems and a secret hiding place in her room built.
The Beje turned into the hub of the Jewish underground movement in Haarlem under the guise of a
petty watch repair shop. Putting their personal safety at risk week after week, month after month, the
ten Booms oversaw hundreds of Jews taken to

Relationship Patterns In Extraordinary Relationships
Chapters 7 and 8 in Extraordinary Relationships gave a good introduction into new concepts relating
to Human Interactions and Relationships. These new concepts give a better idea in understanding two
of the relationship patterns and the various emotions that come along with these patterns and how they
have developed. The two concepts that were discussed throughout the chapters were the relationship
patterns of conflict and distance. When it comes to the relationship pattern of conflict I feel that
Gilberts sums it up perfectly by describing it as two people who are locked in a pattern of emotional
ping pong (Gilbert, 1992, pg.45). In conflict, the partners seem to always be against each other and are
always blaming the other partner for the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Couples that are in a conflict relationship pattern are most likely to seek out help because the couples
seem to be more aware of the pain. In many cases conflict is nothing new to individuals who are
struggling with it. Gilbert (1992) states They may have grown up with it. Sometimes conflicted
relationship partners grew up, not with conflict, but with other patterns that were just as difficult
(pg.46). In all reality conflict is a way of handling relationship anxiety and in many cases anxiety
doesn t come from the relationship, any type of anxiety can trigger conflict (Gilbert, 1992). To
improve people s relationships who are in a relationship pattern of conflict they have to stop focusing
on the other partner and start focusing on themselves and what they bring to the relationship. While
reading on the concept of conflict in relationships I noticed many similarities to my life. I can recall
many instances in my life when conflict was a big issue in my relationships. Now that I have learned
more on the relationship pattern of conflict I will be able to recognize it and hopefully improve any
future relationship that struggles with conflict. The second concept discussed in the chapter was the

The Celluloid Closet Essay
Tom had wanted to kill Dickie before, once or twice or three times, (95) but Tom makes the decision
to actually do so after Dickie has once again accused Tom of being gay, this time after Tom ogles the
gay acrobats on the beach in Cannes. Tom feels a sharp thrust of shame and is reminded of Aunt
Dottie s taunt: Sissy! He s a sissy from the ground up (94). Tom is, at least partially, motivated by
Dickie s rejection of Tom s suspected infatuation with him. This aligns with the strain of the gay
villain in which gay and lesbian characters...are no longer victims but victimizers psychopaths, who
murder the objects of their affection (The Celluloid Closet), particularly when they are rejected. Some

Tom turns to violence. This imagined murder would not be too different from a crime of passion and
jealousy; crimes of passion are prevalent in society, and largely understandable, yet the reader was

directed toward the femininity and implied heterosexuality of Marge upon seeing Dickie and Marge s

Attending Law School
The law is a powerful tool for the disfranchised and disadvantaged. It can be very difficult to respect
yourself in a culture that disrespects you daily. As farmworkers, my parents rights were ignored due to
their economic and educational background, regrettably justice only exits for those with resources and

New England Colonies Dbq
Alex Pang Mr. Eliason AP United States History 7 September 2015 Behind its neighbors, England
finally decided to invest in settling in the New World during the 17th century. Many of the expeditions
to North America were made by private organizations; stock companies and the rich alike shared a
common ideal of having a fresh start from outside their homeland. Two colonies with one common
nationality, however, became two diverse establishments in North America. The colonies in New
England and the Chesapeake region developed into two substantially contrasting ways of life. The
main colony in the New England region was Massachusetts, which included the Puritans, a group of

The Puritanical colony of Massachusetts Bay was founded in 1630, and was born from the mindset of
purifying the Church of England. Most people who voyaged from their motherland were families and
their servants (Doc B). Lists of those who emigrated contain upwards of forty families. Also, in the
Articles of Agreement of Springfield, Massachusetts everyone shared the planting ground (Doc D).
Since the community shared most of the farmland, greed would not be an issue when deciding who
would get what plot of land. Further, Puritans believed we must entertain each other [with care, and]
must be willing to [bridge ourselves] . . . [to supply for] others necessities (Doc A). The community
theme the Massachusetts people embody is further seen in family relying upon family. Differing from
the New England list of emigrants, most Virginia bound colonists were men who failed to bring their
families or men who did not have families (Doc C). Many of the men aboard were jewelers,
goldsmiths, and other tradesmen who believed they were going to become wealthy at their new
colony. Captain John Smith recounts [many of the worst among us were gold seekers] with their
golden promises [and] made all men their slaves (Doc F). Encroaching on the Native American s land,
Jamestown settlers stole their land in hope of uncovering gold in the area. With community not being

Being Frugal Research Paper
We all want to save money and often times go the extra mile to do so, but is there a such thing as too
frugal ?
Definitely! Here s how to gauge when you re taking it a bit too far!
Deprivation: Frugality comes from sparing resources while still meeting your basic needs. Being
frugal should never mean that you are depriving yourself from the basics, i.e food. When budgeting
and determining what changes you re making to your spending habits the most important thing is to
make sure your needs are met regardless. Deprivation is not limited to food, don t deprive yourself
from basic human needs such as new clothes, human interaction ( trust me, avoiding spending money
on activities can cause this) and special personal advances. Keep your needs met and it will all fall in
place.
Senseless Frugality: This refers to spending money foolishly. Being frugal has to make sense, if not
you re doing it wrong. I urge you to remember Cheaper does not mean better for your pockets! Buying
the paper plates that cost 99 cents for 100 may seem like a better option in comparison to the $2.99 for
40. But let take a closer look the food seeps through the cheaper version and you ll run through it
twice as fast hence this is what we refer to as senseless frugality you save a little right now but spend

gender reversal in American education and how this may affect society and our nation. Historically
males have been the primary beneficiaries of education. It s a man s world, men are the creators of
civilizations, laws and education in America. Men have created a system where they can be cater too
in every way possible. Men usually have first pick of what they want to do with their life, they tend to

brain activity and also very different ways of learning. When it comes to teaching there needs to be a

Sam s Compliance Case Study
There are daily instances of patient noncompliance in the medical field. One of the most common
occurrences of challenges can be found in diabetes management. It is a diligent nurse who is educated
on the latest research regarding certain persuasive strategies to help assist patients in their struggle to
make a health change. The rational empirical, normative reeducated and the power coercive
approaches are just three tools a nurse can use to formulate a patient centered plan which can help
guide a patient into taking action. The case of Sam s compliance is a perfect example where these
strategies can be utilized. Each approach has its own unique application which the nurse can use to
extrapolate a plan to increase Sam s acceptance in following a prescribed blood glucose monitoring
and insulin administration. By using these strategies in her approach to Sam, it places the willingness
to make a decision in Sam s court without forcing the issue or causing undue pressure to change,

The African American Slave Influence On The Beginnings Of...
The African American slave influence in the beginnings of American culture and technology and
Native Americans of the North American Continent were significant in creating America. By revealing
the different ways this achieved, we can see the work and techniques that drove the new country and
how this created by the political, as well as ideological ramifications of their labors. With all of these
contributions to the new country of the United States, we see that the formation of the world power
built on the principles that the early settlers created in their work.
White Europeans who controlled the continent held many similar views. These outsiders included the
Native Americans and the African Americans. Both inhabits were treated in comparable and in
opposing ways by the Europeans in power. The most obvious way that the two groups were treated the
same is that they were dealt with in a very ethnocentric way; whites assumed that they were superior
to both groups. Both groups were not dealt with in the same way from the inception. Native
Americans, who were living in the country long before the whites, were killed, stripped of their land,
and cheated as to their future in the new world. According to All About history (2011), The Europeans
soon pursued their intent to conquer this new continent with brutal attacks and invasion. The Native
Americans soon realized that the invaders would arrive in overwhelming numbers, as many as the

Some people have the tendency of misusing the Internet and risking their privacy. Technology is so
powerful that any thing that you upload to the Internet will be in the power of other people. Like
Singer said about the new technology it has made us open up to the world, so now everybody can see
us and know who we are. Galai s photo went international when he posted the picture of himself
yawning. This is why people have to be careful when posting things on the Internet, to protect their
own privacy.
In addition the protecting ourselves, having more privacy can protect the rights of other individuals.
Kadish asks herself If your face isn t private property, what is? (Kadish 262). Kadish is right because
if Galai posted a picture of himself and other people used it, then how many other people are having
the same dilemma? If Galai would have had more privacy, no one could have had the rights to use his

The Food Recovery Network At Wagner College s Campus
In a world in which millions of people do not have enough food available to them in order to lead a
healthy life, it is saddening to think of how much food goes to waste everywhere. The Food Recovery
Network works to reduce the impact of that issue; it is a national network in which students recover
food. The Food Recovery Network here at Wagner College s campus is run through Wagner Cares and
we recover food twice a week from the Main Dining Hall. People volunteer and work with those of us
in the Food Recovery Network and together we work to both be less wasteful and help those in need
of food.
Those of us in the Food Recovery Network include Kirsty, Marisa, Alexandria, Marisa, Mary, and I.
The upperclassmen in general have more of an organizational role whereas the underclassmen have
the more hands on tasks to complete. When all of the members of the school s Food Recovery
Network are in a room, I would say that Kirsty is the clear leader. As a leader, Kirsty is very
organized, is able to clearly instruct us on what we need to do, and she is able to plan out our tasks and
meetings. Marisa and Allie both have a similar role in which they do outreach and are active in giving
suggestions and ideas on ongoing projects as well as asking questions to figure out the logistics of
projects. As for the underclassmen Marisa, Mary, and I we focus more on the recovery aspect of the
program. In that environment, I would say that we all have our own leadership roles and styles, but

Thirdly, I would make sure that Monica had all the knowledge and resources to communicate with us

experience with technology and she didn t know how to exactly worked her email. Throughout the

lawyer also tried to deduct an additional $5,000 for sex therapy books and pornography. The IRS
disallowed the deductions, and the tax court agreed that the expenses were for the lawyer s personal

Comparing Mrs. Sommers And A Pair Of Silk Stockings
Irish novelist and screenwriter William John Banville says The past beats inside me like a second
heart. The past influences person to be who they are today, whether their past self is like their current
self. The character Mrs. Sommers from A Pair of Silk Stockings written by Kate Chopin and the
character Aunt Georgina from A Wagner Matinee written by Willa Cather both have a past self they
experience in their stories and does not correlate with their current self. Other than this they share
multiple similarities and also some differences.
Aunt Georgina and Mrs. Sommers have similarities between them despite being in different stories.
They both have a past life they love and miss. Aunt Georgina is a music teacher at the Boston
Conservatory ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Aunt Georgina and Howard move to Nebraska to run a farm. Aunt Georgina shows her love for music
when her nephew, Clark, comes to the farm and would teach him and she seldom talked about music
with [him] (Cather, pg. 673). She misses music and is a part of her past self she does not want to
forget. Mrs. Sommers enjoys finer activities and objects in her past life and the neighbors talked of
certain better days that little Mrs. Sommers had known before she had thought of being Mrs. Sommers
(Chopin, pg. 1). Mrs. Sommers is shopping for her children when she receives some extra cash and
decides to treat herself. She buys new stockings, new shoes, new gloves and two high priced
magazines such as she had been accustomed to read in the days when she had been accustomed to
other pleasant things in life (Chopin, pg. 3). Once she buys all of this she treats herself to lunch. She
walks into a charming restaurant and her appearance created no surprise, no consternation, as she had
half feared it would (Chopin, pg. 3) Mrs. Sommers did not worry about her appearance in her past life
and once again does not worry about after she pampers herself for a day. Both Mrs. Sommers and
Aunt Georgina

Temple of Heaven
The layout and architecture of the Temple of Heaven is filled with symbolism. According to symbolic
tradition, Heaven is round and the earth is square. Therefore, all of the buildings in the temple
complex are round in shape, while their retaining walls and the axis are square. The surrounding walls
of the complex also reflect these traditions. The southern side of the wall is square and the northern is
round. The emperor would enter the temple complex from the south and this would symbolize his
transition from earth to heaven.
The glazed roof tiles of the major buildings in the temple complex are blue, symbolizing heaven.
Other buildings have green or yellow roof tiles. The green tiles represent Buddhism and the yellow

Twice a year, the emperor, along with thousands of eunuchs, ministers, and princes would proceed to
the Temple of Heaven. The emperor would fast in the Hall of Abstinence located near the Hall of
Prayer for Good Harvests for several days. He would live in the complex during the ceremonies. The
entire country relied on the emperor for good harvests and weather. The ceremonies were prepared for
months in advance and it was believed that it had to be perfectly performed because the smallest
mistake would be a bad omen for the coming year. If there was a year of flooding or famine, the
people would believe that the emperor had fallen out of favor with heaven, so it was of extreme
importance for the emperor to ensure everything went perfectly. Outside of the Hall of Prayer for
Good Harvests, the emperor would personally use oxen to plow a few rows to symbolize the first
plowing and planting of the season. At the Imperial Vault of Heaven, the emperor would pray to the
Emperor of Heaven and his ancestors, and on the Circular Mount altar, he would pray to heaven for a
year of good weather and luck. All of these rituals ensured that the emperor and the empire would be
prosperous.
Currant Usage For centuries, no commoner was allowed to look inside the Temple of Heaven. Today it
is open to the public and has become a beautiful park that is as popular with locals as with tourists.
The complex is very large and the areas around the temples are large and filled with

Malnutrition Informative Speech Cassidy Burkholder Informative Paper English Comp. 1 Mr. Broadfoot 20th of November 2012 Malnutrition Around the World For most us Americans, knowing when we re going to eat next is something we very rarely think of, and when we do think about being hungry we still know where our food is coming from. Three big meals a day, and a few snacks in between, is how most of us live. It s hard for us to imagine what its like for those who go days eating very little or nothing at all. But unfortunately that s how it is for most of the world and surprisingly it happens in the United Sates as well. There are many reasons malnutrition can happen, and it happens to every age group. Even though there are many ways to treat it, in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The ten states who felt it the most were Mississippi, New Mexico, Texas, South Carolina, Louisiana, Oklahoma, Utah, Arkansas, Kentucky, and Arizona. (Haerens 36) While there are malnourished people in America, it is much worse all around the world, mostly in third world countries. There are three predominate reasons why third world countries are hit hard with malnutrition, 1) poor families aren t given government help, 2) difficulties with economy and 3) higher food prices. ( 2012 World Hunger... ) As stated in the website 2012 World Hunger and Poverty Facts and Statistics, in the world there are 925 million hungry people, most of them in Asia, the Pacific and Africa. These people live on $1.25 or less a day. Minimum wage is $7.25 in the U.S., and most people work 8 hours a day, so that means they would be getting fifty eight dollars a day. It would take someone in a third world country about forty seven days to make what someone makes in America in 8 hours. And most of them spend that money on food and medical needs, but $1.25 is not enough. In the United States if a family doesn t have enough money for medical help, they can still go see a doctor, but in other countries it s very different. More than 30,000 children die per year from preventable sickness because they can t go see a doctor. And as for food, Americans have access to food every hour of the day. The wealthiest 5th of the world consumes 86% of all goods, as stated in Child Welfare League of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This is what gives me the fundamental principle of morality, namely, that good consists in maintaining, promoting, and enhancing life, and that destroying, injuring, and limiting life are evil. This definition of ethics was from the German physician, theologian, and medical missionary Albert Schweitzer who was awarded the 1952 Nobel Peace Prize1. Ethics are the principles that govern the behavior of society. It is a topic of discussion that affects all of humanity regardless of age, race or generation. If patients do not understand the information, then they cannot truly make informed medical decisions. Patients who are incompetent due to age or mental disability may have a third party make medical decisions on their behalf. These individuals must be able to understand the situation and act in the best interest of the patient. Lastly, the patient must agree to the therapy voluntarily3. Patients must be protected from coercion or pressures that could cause them to enter into treatment that they do not want. Only after these requirements are met should the patient initiate the proposed therapy. Informed consent is essential to building a strong provider patient relationship based on trust and respect. This paper will examine a situation where multiple ethical concepts are at play, identify several courses of action, and draw conclusions in accordance with the pharmacists code of ethics. The ethical dilemma arises when a patient makes suboptimal medical decisions after being given all of the information necessary to fulfill the requirements of informed consent. Blade Runner, a science fiction film set in the future, brings up a question about the replicants humanity and their rights. As the replicants are able to think as a human would and seem to feel emotions like a human, their rights are hard to acknowledge. Created to fulfill the will of mankind, they only know a life without choices and opinions. This causes them to have certain desires that seem very humanistic in nature. All though they possess humanoid characteristics, replicants have a shorter life span than humans. This drives the plot of the film as some replicants hunt down their creators to try and make themselves more human while others do not even realize they are replicants. Pris and Roy are a couple that works together seeking their creators so that they do not have to die in the measly sum of four bleak years. Rachael is a female replicant who does not know that she is a replicant until Decker, a man in charge of hunting down and killing the replicants, tells her that she is not human. Replicants should be allowed minimal human rights due to their ability to think, feel, and reason as a human would. With emotions acute to humanity, replicants grieve and feel compassion. Throughout the movie, the replicants clearly show their feelings. The strongest among the emotions portrayed by the replicants are fear, grief, and compassion. Fear is shown while they ... Higher Education Now Even Less Affordable These are all statements that have been seen all over the media: newspapers, magazines, television, and radio. (3 SV: SV) Rising college tuition in America has been a problem for years. Many students drop out after a single year due to the pricey costs of tuition. The rapid rise can be attributed to many aspects of the economy, not just a single source. There have also been some propositions of how costs could be lowered, but these have yet to be seen. The United States has gone into a tuition crisis. Tuition rates have been on the rise since the start of colleges. In 1988, the average college tuition was about $2,800 for a year of schooling. In 2008, that number had risen 130% to nearly $6,800 for one year; according to Annalyn Censky of CNN Money, if the average income had raised the same amount, median family earning would be roughly $77,000 a year, instead of the current $33,000. Americans are making $400 less on average than they did in 1988 says Censky. Over the past twenty years, college has risen 5% of the median family income from 12% to 17%; private colleges went from 27% to 47% says Economist.com. (1 SV; SV.) Iran Is An Islamic Sponsored Religion The examination of the functionings of religious states is best done by using two of the most well known nations with a state sponsored religion; Israel and Iran. Their respective religions, Jewish and Islamic, govern their state s policy and everyday life, allowing for a comprehensive comparison regarding the impact on democracy. Israel and Iran have long been at odds politically, so this comparison between the two will highlight the way the two states have dealt with their religious base. Iran is an Islamic sponsored state, with most of their political system revolving around the religious leaders. Israel is a Jewish state with a large secular citizenry to match the religious base, causing the political structure of the state to take a different approach to governing. Israel s more secular and inclusive structure of government has allowed for a greater development of democracy, compared to Iran s highly religious and non inclusive governmental setup which has led to a theocracy disguised as a democratic state. Iran s political and social landscape completely shifted in 1979 when the Islamic Revolution toppled the monarchy that was in power. It was decided that Iran would now be a republic built on Islamic principles and ideals, thus marginalizing the leftist nationalist party that had helped the religious right protest against the Shah s rule in 1978 and 1979. • 12. The Business s Planning And Control Policy BUDGETING In the most recent years budgets are considered to be one of the key factors about the business s planning and control policy (Thomas, 1983, p. 133). Financial budgets show the business s strategy concerning the following year compiled by financial statements, plus they are supposed to be the policy used in order to evaluate the managerial performance and be the principle of the management system (ibid). Budgets are considered to be attached to the concept of control. It is really essential that firms create a written project that formulates which will be the objectives of the company, what kind of strategies should be followed and what outcomes are more likely, also known as performance targets (Merchant Van der Stede, 2012, p.306). According to Drury (2004, p. 593) budgeting is affected by the fulfillment of the deep rooted plan for the following year and, due to the shorter preparation boundary, budgets are supposed to be accurate and particularized. Budgets are a straightforward evidence of what should be anticipated to be accomplished throughout the duration of the budget period. According to Hansen and Mowen (2003, p.992) Budgetary slack is the process of padding the budget by overestimating costs and underestimating revenues . U-Boat Tactics in World War II In September of 2012, Germany s last surviving U Boat captain who helped sink dozens of U.S. and British ships has been honoured by the modern military in his homeland seven decades after he was twice decorated by Hitler for bravery. It may seem grim to honor a person who referred to American shooting season as his hobby during the war, but it is important to recognize the contributions of U Boat commanders like Reinhard Hardegen. German submarines had been an engineering vision since 1465, and preliminary German submarines were being manufactured as early as 1850 with Sebastian Wilhelm Valentin Bauer s Brandtaucher design. The Brandtaucher was much improved upon during the Industrial Age, which represented the peak of Kaiserdom in Germany. With its financial coffers relatively full, the Kaiser was able to fund designs such as those by Vogel in 1870 and Howaldt in 1891. However, Gustav Zede designed the Forelle (named after the much beloved German trout fish) and it was the first truly successful German submarine and was launched in 1903. From these early submarines evolved one of the world s most evocative killing machines, the U Boats. • 26. New England Colonies Dbq Alex Pang Mr. Eliason AP United States History 7 September 2015 Behind its neighbors, England finally decided to invest in settling in the New World during the 17th century. Many of the expeditions to North America were made by private organizations; stock companies and the rich alike shared a common ideal of having a fresh start from outside their homeland. Two colonies with one common nationality, however, became two diverse establishments in North America. The colonies in New England and the Chesapeake region developed into two substantially contrasting ways of life. The main colony in the New England region was Massachusetts, which included the Puritans, a group of religious settlers who wanted to purify the Protestant Church of England. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Puritanical colony of Massachusetts Bay was founded in 1630, and was born from the mindset of purifying the Church of England. Most people who voyaged from their motherland were families and their servants (Doc B). Lists of those who emigrated contain upwards of forty families. Also, in the Articles of Agreement of Springfield, Massachusetts everyone shared the planting ground (Doc D). Since the community shared most of the farmland, greed would not be an issue when deciding who would get what plot of land. Further, Puritans believed we must entertain each other [with care, and] must be willing to [bridge ourselves] . . . [to supply for] others necessities (Doc A). The community theme the Massachusetts people embody is further seen in family relying upon family. Differing from the New England list of emigrants, most Virginia bound colonists were men who failed to bring their families or men who did not have families (Doc C). Many of the men aboard were jewelers, goldsmiths, and other tradesmen who believed they were going to become wealthy at their new colony. Captain John Smith recounts [many of the worst among us were gold seekers] with their golden promises [and] made all men their slaves (Doc F). Here s how to gauge when you re taking it a bit too far! Deprivation: Frugality comes from sparing resources while still meeting your basic needs. Being frugal should never mean that you are depriving yourself from the basics, i.e food. When budgeting and determining what changes you re making to your spending habits the most important thing is to make sure your needs are met regardless. Deprivation is not limited to food, don t deprive yourself from basic human needs such as new clothes, human interaction ( trust me, avoiding spending money on activities can cause this) and special personal advances. Keep your needs met and it will all fall in place. Senseless Frugality: This refers to spending money foolishly. Being frugal has to make sense, if not you re doing it wrong. The African American slave influence in the beginnings of American culture and technology and Native Americans of the North American Continent were significant in creating America. By revealing the different ways this achieved, we can see the work and techniques that drove the new country and how this created by the political, as well as ideological ramifications of their labors. With all of these contributions to the new country of the United States, we see that the formation of the world power built on the principles that the early settlers created in their work. White Europeans who controlled the continent held many similar views. These outsiders included the Native Americans and the African Americans. Both inhabits were treated in comparable and in opposing ways by the Europeans in power. The most obvious way that the two groups were treated the same is that they were dealt with in a very ethnocentric way; whites assumed that they were superior to both groups.
