Buddhism s Life Changing Experience
Buddhism Buddhism is a life changing experience that can help people change their life for the
better as it creates a happier and healthier environment. By the end of this summer I will have
been a Buddhist for over four years now and I can honestly say that it has made a huge impact on
my life. I have become a less stressed and more relaxed person from applying the Dharma basic
principles to my everyday routine. Dharma has helped me create my own enlightenment path to
eliminating my anger and transgression. After I made the change from Lutheran to Buddhismit has
help me get through a lot of problems that I never could stop dwelling over and even just little
everyday problems. When I had first heard about Buddhism it was on TV from then on I was
intrigued. Coming from a family that never paid much attention to religion, never having been to
church and only praying on thanksgiving I never had much interest in religion until I started
researching about Buddhism. From then on I started to practice the teachings of Buddha and
began to somewhat master so on the lessons but there are still something that I have yet to
accomplish with college I haven t had much time to practice and there are said to be lessons that
take some Buddhist almost a live time to accomplish. By following Buddha s path it has allowed
me to develop a self awareness by seeing one s self and changing ones point of view. Teaching me
to stop expecting so much because in truth live has not even promised to

How do William Blake and William Wordsworth respond to...
How do William Blake and William Wordsworth respond to nature in their poetry? The Romantic
Era was an age, which opened during the Industrial
(1800 1900) and French Revolution (1789). These ages affected the romantic poets greatly by
disrupting and polluting nature. Before the
Industrial Revolution, William Blake wrote about Songs of Innocence.
He also wrote Songs of Experience but after the Industrial
Revolution. William Wordsworth, on the other hand, continued on an optimistic route and ignored
the Industrial Revolution in his poems.
He instead wrote about nature only and its beauty. Previous Augustan poets were more controlled
and rule governed. They were also concerned with order.
In Blake s London , he describes the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Wordsworth talks about the mind being free and relaxed, Ne er saw I, never felt, a calm so deep!
The adjective
deep shows how immense the tranquility is. It also shows how the poem is personal, Ne er saw I.
He sets the scene in the morning, creating a feeling of calmness and peace, The beauty of the
morning; silent, bare. The noun beauty implies splendor and magnificence, showing the opposite
of what Blake writes about London . The adjective silent is also the opposite of what Blake writes in
London , How the youthful Harlot s curse . Wordsworth mentions the daffodils as people, When
all at once I saw a crowd. Similarly, he uses personification, crowd , to imply that everyone is
unified in nature. He uses color in his poem to indicate a deeper meaning, A host, of golden
daffodils. The adjective golden illustrates purity as well, therefore connecting it to innocence. The
noun host has a slight religious tone, which also relates to purity. The Daffodils has eight syllables
in each line. This makes the poem seem more complex than Spring .
In Spring , a lively tone is repeated throughout the poem, Merrily, merrily we welcome in the year.
The adverb merrily is repeated to highlight the positive tone of the poem and to make it last longer.
The pronoun we welcome in the year also shows us how everyone is unified in nature. Blake uses
colour to expand the meaning of the sentence, Come and

Adoption In Haiti
Haiti Case
In January 2010, Haiti was struck by a massive earthquake, killing thousands of people and
misplacing hundreds.20 A disaster of this kind often leads to the separation of a large group of
people within a community including separating parents from children. In the desolation, chaos
and widespread panic followed, a surge in child exploitation and trafficking was inevitable just as
it was after for the 2004 Indonesia tsunami and how it is constantly happening in Guatemala.21 22
In the 1st two months, children were pooched by greedy westernized vultures without checking if
they had any living relatives and the proper documentations.21 22 Just a few days after the
catastrophe, children were already in the final stages of adoption and ... Show more content on

It is not only the involvement of two families but two countries. I think before any international
adoption should proceed, the adoptive parents must make the effort to know the child s
homeland. They must also demonstrate that they are willing to protect the rights of the child
against any threat. I think in that way the child won t lose part of his cultural and ethnic identity.
The sending country should make sure the international adoption is the last option after visiting
the other options such as extended families that might be able to take care of the child or
orphanage agencies or even domestic adoption. Only after these options have been exhausted,
only then international adoption should be considered. Once it is done, they need to assure the
child is guaranteed to have a better future. I don t think it should stop at a simple background
check or to check if the adopters are good citizens. It should go beyond that; like take for instance
the case of Carleton Gajdusek; he was an extraordinary scientist and he received a Nobel prize
for his research. Given his background and how he was perceived in society, Gajdusek was given
the opportunity to bring back with him in the US 56 children from New Guinea. Parents trusted
the scientist and believe that he will offer those kids a higher education. However, he was later
accused of molesting those kids. Shouldn t this be a lesson to society? Therefore, I

of soccer has a simple goal: kick or head the ball in to the goal of your opponent s team. Basically,
there is also one simple rule: No one except the goalkeeper may use they rehands to play the ball.
Soccer is a simplistic sport. Eleven members of each team defend their side of the field to
prevent the ball from being forced into their goal, which results in a point scored by the team
kicking the ball. There are only three officials involved during play: The referee, and two
linesmen. The equipment used in soccer is also very simple. In addition to the field itself, all that
is needed for a game is two goals (eight feet high and eight yards apart) and a ball. Each player

Additionally, 2% milk was steady with having more fat, along with whole milk. On the nutrition
label, the type of milk that has more fats, protein, and carbohydrates produced more butter. When
the grade of the milk was higher, there was a greater amount of dried butter. The trials conducted

expending valuable class time for transitions. Each document camera purchased will be specifically
assigned to the grade level classrooms that support our ELA students. These students are grouped
for the team teaching model that is supported by our district. The integration of the document
camera will be used in concert with previously installed projectors and whiteboards. The document

Romantic Hero Longfellow
Romantic Hero Essay Henry Wadsworth Longfellow(1807 1882) defined, what is considered
today, the true Romantic hero. He associated the Romantic hero with unique characteristics. These
characteristics were not found in any other type of hero. In his poem A Psalm of Life , Longfellow
defined a Romantic herois while the protagonist in his poem Excelsior gives an example of a
Romantic hero. According to Longfellow the Romantic hero must be a nonconformist, a man of
action, must act in the present, and above all contribute to society.
In order for a hero to be a Romantic hero, he must be an individual. One cannot follow the crowd
and be a Romantic hero. Longfellow urged readers to be not like dumb, driven cattle (psalm of
life 5. 3) and to Be a hero in the strife! (5. 4). Longfellow demonstrated this using Exelsior by

Washington Irving, author of Rip van winkle, illustrates the Romantic hero a little differently then
Longfellow. Although there are some differences, the overall impression the characters give is
similar.
Washington Irving illustrated Rip, the protagonist in Rip van Winkle, as a very individualistic
person, who acted in the present and initially did not contribute to society. He did not inspire others
to act in the present, although he did end up achieving greatness and finding his place in society.
Using Rip Van Winkle, Irving demonstrated the qualities he believed a Romantic hero must possess.
The first qulity Irving associated with a Romantic hero was being an individual. Rip clearly did
not follow the social norm of men in the village. While all other men went to work, Rip, would
sit on a wet rock( Irving or assist a neighbor . He was willing to help anyone but his family. If Rip

Nitrate And Its Effects On Exercise Abuse In The Human Body
Nitrate (NO3 ) supplementation has been widely researched for its effects on exercise
performance since Larsen et al 2007 found that it decreased the oxygen cost of submaximal
aerobic exercise. The effect of NO3 in the body is tied to the production of nitric oxide (NO),
which is an endogenous gas that plays a regulatory role in many processes in the human body,
including; bloodpressure, calcium handling, mitochondrial biogenesis, excitation coupling
contraction, oxidative stress, regulation of blood flow to muscletissues, and skeletal muscle repair
(Stamler Meismer 2001). NO is produced in the body via the L Arginine pathway, where NO is
synthesized by NO synthase enzymes (Stamler Meismer 2001).
However, studies have discovered ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This increase in exercise tolerance may be able to increase the performance of both moderate and
high intensity exercise, but the research is conflicting regarding nitrate s effectiveness on high
intensity exercise. Nitrate supplementation seems to be a useful ergogenic aid that could help
increase the performance in diverse types of exercise.
The most widely researched and documented effects of nitrate intake been its ability to decrease
the oxygen cost of submaximal aerobic exercise, at least in moderately trained or sedentary
individuals. The first study to discover these findings was conducted by Larsen et al in 2007.
They found that the oxygen uptake of moderately fit males while cycling at a moderate intensity
(45% 85% VO2max) was reduced by an average of 0.16 L/min 1. The most shocking result of
these findings were that it happened without an increase in the formation of blood lactate levels
or any changes to heart rate, meaning that the nitrate supplementation did in fact increase muscle
efficiency (Larsen et al, 2007). These effects have been most commonly noted in cycling (Larsen
et al, 2007; Baily et al 2015, 2010 and 2009) and running (Porcelli et al, 2015). Reducing the
oxygen cost of exercise during aerobic activities would benefit greatly in competition, as it would
allow an individual to maintain a faster pace at a lower percentage of their VO2max than they
previously could, thus theoretically delaying fatigue.
This effect of oxygen cost on

vast resources and counseling at no cost. Counseling that is provided in the Small BusinessCenter
helps with business planning, business growth, or cash flow management. For counseling I would

the experience would be beneficial. Furthermore, talking to my future customers should provide
background knowledge about what products they want.
Because of the experience I have working in a beauty supply, I will start one. I have close to 9
years of experience working in a beauty supply. I have skills to work the register, provide customer

Sex Trafficking And Human Trafficking Essay
Human trafficking brings in billions of dollars into the U.S and all around the world. The prime
motive for such outrageous abuse is simple: money. In this $12 billion global business just one
woman trafficked into the industrialized world can net her captors an average $67,000 a year
(Baird 2007). The laws around human traffickingare not strict and vary depending on what country
it is happening in. Human trafficking is not something that is strictly foreign, it is happening right
in front of our faces, in our neighborhoods, and all around us.
Many people have their own definitions of sex trafficking and human trafficking. A lot of people in
the U.S believe that all prostitution is voluntary when that is not the case. As Lerum and Brents
stated, Human trafficking is defined by the U.S. State Department of State as labor induced by
force, fraud, or coercion. The definition of trafficking in the sex industry (but not other industries)
includes additional stipulations for individuals under 18: When a child (under 18 years of age) is
recruited, enticed, harbored, transported, provided, obtained, or maintained to perform a
commercial sex act, proving force, fraud, or coercion is not necessary for the offense to be
characterized as human trafficking (U.S. Dept. of State 2014, p. 29). In addition, reliable data when
it comes to human trafficking is hard to achieve when definitions of the word are always changing.

For many years, test score banding has been a prevalent topic among researchers and a method
many organizations have relied on as a tool to select applicants. While many researchers have
negated the use of banding, specifically SED banding, as an accurate selection procedure, other
researchers have supported the method through statistically based evidence and other factors
contributing to the idea others have on banding being a poor selection measure. Furthermore, the
extensive use of banding throughout organizations and the reasoning behind the use, regardless of
the critiques, strengthens the argument that banding is a valid and useful selection procedure.

Patients Claims Of Denial Of Services Essay
Patients Claims of Denial of Services in Healthcare Facility The Office for Civil Rights of the
U.S. Department of Health Human Services enforces federal laws that prohibit discrimination by
health care and human service providers. Both Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973
Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 prohibit discrimination against qualified

not receive federal financial assistance. Hospitals, clinics, drug treatment center, nursing homes
are all entities covered by Section 504. The Americans with Disabilities Act also protects other
persons, such as family friends, who are discriminated against because of their association with
someone who has HIV. If patient believes that they have been discriminated against and denied

Physician-Hospital Organizations Case
In early 1990 s, physician hospital organizations (PHO), legal in the United States, developed to
provide attractive one stop shopping for consumers, employers and managed care payors, by
bonding the medical staff to the hospitals within an organization (Daniels 2011). As with the
majority of healthcare decisions, legal issues surfaced among the formation of PHOs, forcing the
Federal Trade Commission (FTC) to closely examine multiple alliances and networks. Examining
the South Georgia PHO, the FTC found per se illegal in multiple areas such as developing the
group in order to obtain higher fees, unlawfully fixed maximum allowable discounts, and restricted
the ability to contract outside the PHO (Creighton 2004). The FTC evaluates PHOs by assessing...

competing providers to share financial risk for services provided via the network would benefit
the PHO providing efficiencies. Exclusive arrangements do not exist as automatically

rule of reason, an analytical process provided by the FTC, examines various details and aspects to
visualize the competitive significance of the formation of the PHO (FTC 1996). Such as, if

provide a service that is not profitable, but focus more on a profitable service, the hospital is
allowed to enter into an agreement with an integrated network PHO to provide the less profitable
service. Healthcare reform has created many unique opportunities for the development and

Question 2.
Highlight the differences between data and information.
Data and information are related. Once data is processed, it calls information. But data is raw,
plain and unprocessed item and need to be processed. Data itself is useless until it is organized.
Meanwhile, information is a collection of data after it process. Generally, there are three main
differences between data and information such as their meaning, example and definition.
In the context of meaning, data is something plain, raw, unorganized facts that need to process to be
meaningful while information is a collection of many data that is meaningful to the user. For
example, the score of science test, date of birthday,

Wal Mart And Its Effect On Society
What if a dream never amounted to anything more than a dream? What would be the point of
dreaming that dream? Wal Mart makes dreams for many locally owned businesses nothing but a
lie. Wal Mart, like many monopolies use their enormous power to influence, and take advantage of
society in whatever way they see fit. The American Society has adopted subjective vision, either
because they care not to look further than the inexpensiveness of their product or the owner are
blinded by their profits. Wal Mart takes advantage of a system by exploiting cheap labor and poor
working conditions. The same company that advises these poor standards receive large quantities of

When people are placed into a group and these people have to deal with some situation, the
group as a whole typically has some overriding attitude toward the situation (). Wal Mart focus
on the individual to separate them from a group. Once they are separate the loss of their job or
pay cuts take a bigger toll on the individual. Also Wal Mart may play individuals against each
other to create self doubt. In the documentary it showed how Wal Mart would play individuals
against each other by ignoring actions such as racism towards those who defied the system. By
focusing on the individual, Wal Mart is able to increase their profits through creating the inequity of

institution that Wal Mart is concerned with is economics. Realizing this Wal Mart uses their power

Interview With Bernie Sanders
In the episode I chose to watch, Evan Smith did an interview with Bernie Sanders. This episode
was originally aired on April 16, 2015, so the topic of discussion was if Bernie Sanders would be
running for president and what were the issues he would focus on if so. Sanders made some very
good points when he talked about our economy and the top one percent. He stated that the Koch
Brothers are the second wealthiest family in America and they spend at least $900 million in
campaigns so they basically own the country. I think this is very scary because if they along with
other billionaires are the ones giving the money to campaigns then they are the only voices that are
being heard. The Koch brothers have become too powerful and they are trying to own the political
system. Though many people, especially the younger generation, likes Sanders views and what he

First off, our top one percent would have to become less important than they are now and the
middle and lower class people would have to become the main focus. People would have to get
out and vote and considering no one really has time for it other than the top one percent, I do not
see Bernie Sanders becoming our next president. I say this not only because people don t vote,
but because as good as his issues sound, EVERYONE in America would have to contribute in
order for the changes he want to make actually take action. Sanders also talks about raising the
minimum wage prices, which I am aware President Obama has been trying to enforce.
Whitehouse.gov states that seventeen states and Washington D.C have passed laws to raise
minimum wage, but Sanders want more states to join and go a little bit higher. To me this seems
like a problem because, considering how our economy is, more people would be out of jobs even
though higher wages would help those with a

The Soviet Union And Capitalist America
From Stettin in the Baltic to Trieste in the Adriatic an iron curtain has descended across the
Continent. The Cold War placed most of the post war world into a perpetual state of paranoia and
dramatically rose tensions between both world powers and their respective ideologies; the
Communist Soviet Union and Capitalist America. Both of these powers were in a race to have the
advantage over one another, with accelerations in arms developments and eventually creating a
standoff between the the Western and Eastern blocs. Two national leaders were very prevalent in
bringing a significant amount of change to the European Region, the first leader being Harry
Truman (1945 1953) who introduced the Truman Doctrine and Marshall Plan with the slogan It
must be the policy of the United States to support free peoples who are resisting attempted
subjugation by armed minorities and outside pressures The second significant leader who exacted
significant change in the European Region and subsequently culminated the Cold Warwas Mikhail
Gorbachev (1985 1991) whose policies of Glasnost Openness and Economic, Political and Social
Perestroika Restructuring followed his belief that It would be naive to think that the problems

Misery Movie Analysis
Misery is a movie based on the Stephen King novel of the same name. The movie adaptation was
directed by Rob Reiner and released on November 30, 1990. The movie is about a famous writer,
Paul Sheldon who created the popular Misery series. He finished the first drafts of all his books in
the Silver Creek Lodge in Colorado. He just finished his new novel Fast Cars and is heading back
to New York to get his manuscript printed when his car crashes in Colorado. Paul is pulled out of
the wreckage by a woman named Annie Wilkes, who is his number one fan. She takes him back to
her home and nurses him back to health. Annie s obsession takes a dark turn when she discovers
Paul kills off her favourite character from his Misery novels. As Sheldon makes a plan to try and
escape, Annie grows more controlling and violent as she forces the author to write a new book to
suit her corrupt fantasies.
Through the latent content, it is revealed that the true meaning of this film is of an incomplete
oedipal complex. The beginning of the film starts off with frames of a cigarette, a match and a
bottle of champagne. The cigarette and the match are both phallic symbols and Paul Sheldon, the
author of the famous Misery novels always smokes one every time he finishes a new book. Paul

The Importance Of Typology In Christianity
Christianity has been from the beginning a typological religion. Typology in Christian theology
and Biblical exegesis is a doctrine or theory concerning the relationship between the Old and New
Testaments . (Merriam Webster 868) Perhaps the single most important concept for understanding
early Christianity is typology. Typology is a form of study of literature identifying symbols
especially in the Bible. This system of groupings, usually called types, the members of which are
identified by postulating specified attributes that are mutually exclusive and collectively exhaustive
groupings set up to aid demonstration or inquiry by establishing a limited relationship among
phenomena. Typology is interpreted throughout text in American literature such as William
Bradford s Plymouth Plantation, Jonathan Edward s Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God and
Thomas PaineCommon Sense. During the Enlightenment, the meaning of Protestant identity
became increasingly vague; typology took on the hazy significance of image and symbol; what
passed for the divine plan had lost its strict grounding sculpture; providence itself was shaken loose
from its religious frame work to became part of the belief in the human progress. The eighteenth
century clergy took advantage of this movement to shift the focus of figural authority, from Bible
history to the American experience. In effect, they substituted a regional for a biblical past,
sanctified the American present as a movement from promise to

The Contamination Of The Spinach Field Essay
We all know that poor and dirty conditions lead to the accumulation of bacteria and other health
risking factors. It is a violation of policy for health codes. This can be seen in the Mountain View
Farms most likely due to the fact that they grew the spinach in unfavorable conditions. There is
a possibility that the spinach field came into contact with the STEC O157:H7 through outside
sources due to the fact that they were exposed in dangerous conditions in outside environments
instead of being grown in a facility that is enclosed. In order to save and cut costs of
manufacturing spinach, the farm most likely planted their spinach outside. While this practice
is common, it is also unsafe as pollutants from other manufacturing companies and farms can
wash down into the spinach field. In this scenario, according to the map of nearby industries,
there are a few sources that could have exposed the spinach field to STEC O157:H7. The Floyd s
Pork Farm is the most suspected source as the dangerous strain of E. Coli can be contracted from
the animals through their food source and passed through their fecal matter. The feces are then
washed into nearby water systems by the rain and might not be filtered and processed completely
before being used. In this case, the water that was infected is being used for the irrigation system
to water and grow the spinach and other crops. Now the spinach has the E. Coli strain and then
being harvested to be bagged and sold off to the consumers. This

Informative Speech On Corn In Economics
John Morrow Communications 104 Informative Speech Outline 9/21/17 General Purpose: To
inform the class of the influence corn has on America s economics. 1.Main Point # 1 Corn s
versatility, global demand, and profit margin has led the over grown grass to emerge as
America s number one crop. The USDA evaluated corn s crop value to be $76.9 billion in 2011,
making it a huge contributor to the American economic system (National Corn Growers
Association, 2017). Research gathered by Duke University found that the U.S. produced 40%
of the world s supply, 10% of which comes from the small town of Constantine, Michigan while
an additional 10% is produced from the surrounding areas ( U.S and Employment, 2015; Motz,
T., 2016). These spikes in corn s global demand have created an opportunity for farmers and mid
western field workers to become involved in the growing and profitable industry. a.(Sub Point #
1) One major influence on the great increase in the U.S. s corn production is its great economic
benefit for our local and national economies through tax revenue and employment. Corn is a
subsidized crop in the U.S., meaning that American farmers are paid a guaranteed price by the
government, in addition to the profit of their yield, just for growing corn ( U.S and Employment,
2015). This creates a safety net for American farmers to start farming corn leading to the emersion
of almost 2 million individual or family owned corn farms ( U.S and Employment, 2015). Not only

Don t Let Smoking Control Your Life In today s growing society, smoking is still a major problem
among many humans. A lot of teens and young adults are revealed to the effects of smoking
through the exposure of secondhand smoke. The presence of secondhand smoke can be
encountered through family members, friends, and even people in the surrounding area. Since
smoking is so accessible, anyone is able to obtain a cigarette. The result of smoking, however,
presents undesirable outcomes. As an example, cancer, lung disease, a change in lifestyle and
personality, or impacted decisions. Similarly, the advertisement campaign Stay In Control by The
Real Cost introduces us to Amanda Green a teenage girl who finally has the independence to
define who she is. However, before she can, Amanda gives up part of her freedom to smoking.
The losses of freedom to smoking includes everything from her life, her money, her boundaries, etc.
Through the use of vivid imagery, voiceover, and sad emotions, the ad Stay In Control effectively
conveys a message about the harmful effects of smoking to its intended audience: teens and young
adults. During the youth ages 12 17, the use of tobacco is consistently established and started.
Adolescents who are open to cigarettes attempt to try it and many who try a cigarette move to
addictive, regular use. Likewise, the powerful imagery presented in this ad gives the audience a

a car is surrounded by thick, dark fog, making the background difficult to make out. If not for the
diegetic sound of the crashing waves a few hundred feet below the edge of the near by precipice,

The Reflection Of Social Status In African Art
The Reflection of Social Status in African Art The attachment of labels to particular groups of
people is something society just can t stop doing. Categorizing brings comfort in a world that
can often be very brutal and chaotic. Most people s first thoughts when looking at or meeting
someone are along the lines of trying to guess what kind of person they are based on how they
look, to get a better understanding of their social status. This idea is reflected within the arts as
well, such as in the use of distinguishing factors to discern a leader or deity from mere mortals. In
African culture, people of higher status often employed the fine arts in combination with other
methods, to embed their absolute power into the minds of their normal counterparts. Hierarchical
scale is a favorite among ancient artists when creating works featuring a high ranking member of
society, be it a god or a mortal king. People in power want to remain relevant to the people they
serve, and this relevance is often reiterated through forms of political propaganda that make them
appear more menacing or divine. One of the more blatant examples of art indicating and
reinforcing social status is the Altar to the Hand and Arm (Kleiner 402 403). Upon first glance, the
most important figure can be picked out of the other figures being depicted in this piece. Ancient
African artists had a solid grasp on proportion, but they often honored their leaders by giving them

Customer Satisfaction Survey And Employee Turnover
Putting the Service Profit Chain to Work The purpose of this article was to analyze the service
profit chain and to discuss the service profit chain audit. The article mainly used customer
satisfaction surveys and employee turnover rates to develop the data.
According to the article, the service profit chain establishes relationships between profitability,
customer loyalty, and employee satisfaction, loyalty, and productivity. The links in the chain are
as follows: Profit and growth are stimulated primarily by customer loyalty. Loyalty is a direct
result of customer satisfaction. Satisfaction is largely influenced by the value of services
provided to customers. Value is created by satisfied, loyal, and productive employees. Employee
satisfaction, in turn, results primarily from high quality support services and policies that
enable employees to deliver results to customers (J. Heskett, T. Jones, G. Loveman, E. Sasser, L.
Schlesinger, 1994). They have found that the value of a satisfied customer is huge because they
can become a loyal customer, and will also affect their peers to become loyal customers as well.
Over time, a loyal customer can bring in thousands of dollars for a company. One interesting way
to analyze customer satisfaction is to look at the apostles and terrorists. Apostles are those
customers that are so pleased with a product or company, that they get more people to like the
product as well. Terrorists are those customers who are so displeased that

Analysis Of Half Of A Yellow Sun
The Novel Half of a Yellow Sun by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie was first published in 2006 and
follows the interweaved narrative of three individuals living in Eastern Nigeria throughout the
1960s. The Novel, set within the backdrop of the Biafra secession movement and subsequent civil
war, demonstrates how the daily life of Biafrans was riddled with conflict, turbulence and trauma.
Additionally, the novel depicts how the effects of colonialism remain a strong force in the everyday
lives of the characters as many continue to hold colonial sentiment. Furthermore, through the
character Odenigbo, Adichie highlights how education is an important tool for decolonisation and
allows citizens to create discourse on their own terms. Ultimately, the novel displays African life
within the context of a newly independent and turbulent state. This paper will aim to contextualise
and discuss such themes in Adichie s novel.
Half of a Yellow Suntakes its name from the symbol of Biafra. The novel follows the short lived
life of the nation through three characters. Ugwu a houseboy from a small village who works for
an academic named Odenigbo until he is conscripted into the Biafran army where he experiences
the harsh realities of war. Olanna a UK educated daughter of a wealthy chief and is Odenigbo s
wife. She too is greatly affected by the war and suffers from ongoing trauma after seeing atrocities
in Kano, Northern Nigeria. Finally, Richard is the love interest of Olanna s sister and is

Mysteries In The Tale Of Two Cities By Charles Dickens
In the Tale of Two Cities, by Charles Dickens, mysteries are present throughout the book. Through
the characters Jerry, Charles Darnay, Doctor Manette, the Marque, and Madame Defarge, Dickens
is able to create mysteries. Charles Dickens develops mysteries through the point of view, motifs,

The mystery is developed through the narrator s point of view which doesn t reveal everything.
During the conversation with Jerry Cruncher and his son, the younger Jerry wonders where does

What To Sacrifice Research Paper
To sacrifice is to give up something important for something even better, which may cause pain;
but, in the end, it will be totally worth it. I have witnessed my own friends performing such a
damaging act that hurt me as individual, mentally, and has made me begin to struggle in daily
activities. I have allowed myself to become stressed out, ignore the healthier relationships in my
life, and have noticed a great decrease in my self esteem. However, I have learned that these
problems were or can be created due to the reaction and response I express. This reaction has
both hurt me and helped me build as an individual. Some people respond by getting revenge on
the other person, which ends up making him or her just as disrespectful as the other; while I have
realized it is better to forgive rather than hold a grudge. I also have realized forgiving someone
makes me appear more respectable, and it ultimately places me in a higher place than the individual
I am dealing with; forgiveness may be a painful thing to go through, but in the long run, I have
benefited from it in numerous ways.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I begin to create a constant fear in my head that the person who hurt me once will most likely do
it again. I have learned that allowing someone a second, third, or sometimes fourth chance,
creates an image that does not show respect for myself. It has shown the person that is hurting
me that they can do whatever they please because I will forgive them anyways; which is not
how I want to be viewed in society. I fear the same occurrence will remain and that I will appear
weak to others; appearing weak in society is not the type of person I am. I have learned that even
though I may get hurt again, I have to do what is right and remove that person from my life, which
will eliminate my fear and allow me to stand

Keats Allusion
When I Have Fears That I May Cease to be was written John Keats in 1884. In his sonnet Keats
displays fear of not being able to finish his literary work he has has set out to accomplish in his
lifetime. To accompany him is a cloudy night reminding him of a lost lover that he fears he will
never see again. He seems alone and seeks a simple life over love and fame. Showing, that to him,
existence and purpose is more important than any other distraction in life. Unfortunately, it seems to
John Keatsthat life itself is the distraction. Constantly being obsessed with any aspect of life is an
unhealthy way to live. The tone is identified immediately when Keats begins with a very common
human fear, the fear of death. His sense of paranoia to premature death reinforces the central idea
in that it reveals the authors personal struggles with the concept of life and death. He doesn t want
to die feeling unaccomplished, and he realizes... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Keats uses several different allusion is his piece. In the poem we see the use of allusions,
personification, symbolism, and a simile. He commonly uses allusions, laying reference to several
items without any explanation. Examples are the use of vague terms such as charactry which he
uses to describe writing. He also uses the term, garners (Keats) which refers to farm storehouses. In
the same line he uses the phrase, full ripened grain, (Keats) a simile used to compare the bountiful
amount of literary pieces he hopes to complete.
In the use of various language devices, he also includes personification by giving several
intangible objects human features. His first example is shown when the stars are given a face,
When I behold, upon the night s starred face. (Keats) Again, he gives chance (Keats) a physical
hand, Their shadows, with the magic hand of chance.

Totalitarianism In George Orwell s Nineteen Eighty-Four
Liberal Democracy versus Totalitarianism
Who controls the past, controls the future; who controls the present, controls the past is the slogan
of the Party in Orwell s Nineteen Eighty Four (1949). In other words, in totalitarian society, the
government controls the past and the future by controlling the present; force the society and
disrespect the individual rights are the main power of the government. There was some examples of
the totalitarian societies. However, there was more examples of the liberal and liberal democratic
societies. In the present time, in the world dominate liberal democracy over the totalitarianism.

Reflection Of Rene And Rene Mora s Life
Rene, Rene Mora; I think that name will forever be engraved on my heart. As a little girl, I
already had my whole life planned out, but what didn t come to plan was being put into juvenile
probation at sixteen. His parents and my mother met in mandatory parenting classes, there, our
parents would sit and compare their children to each other. I had already known of Rene because
we were attending the same high school at the time, and the fact that I would always hear about
him fighting at school, but never would I had imagined that I would end up dating the kid. We
officially met while we were both in bad moments of our lives, but Rene ended up saving me in
every day that a person can be saved.
Sociological imagination is the awareness of the relationship between personal experience and
the wider society; it is understanding that some things in society may lead to a certain outcome.
I like to think it as stepping into someone else s shoes, I always do this before I throw away food
or clothes. Rene suffered with a high tolerance of anxiety; he reacted fast to something while he
was full of anger, and then apologized for it after a short period of time. These days, we
unfortunately still live in a society where some young men think proving themselves to others
makes them real or down. A lot of them don t think abut loosing their freedom or family, until
they are behind a steel door or dead. Our book left out the topic of grief; I feel that many people
suffer with it today,

Lecturer Peter Senge Once Stated, “Knowledge Is Constructed,
Lecturer Peter Senge once stated, Knowledge is constructed, not transferred (Callahan). With this
one quote Peter Senge has managed to mock the modern education system. Today s educational
institutions do exactly what Senge says not to; teachers try to transfer knowledge to their students
through lectures, worksheets, and rubrics. This type of instruction, called essentialism, limits
student s creativity. Students are unable to act independently from teacher expectations.
Essentialism tends to have one right answer and only one way of finding this solution. Instruction
following this set up will begin to reduce student perseverance; students become frustrated if they

In order to embrace constructivism in the classroom one must first ask, what is learning, how do
students learn, and how should teachers teach?
Learning can be defined in many different ways. The Merriam Webster dictionary defines learning
as, knowledge or skill acquired by instruction or study and modification of a behavioral tendency
by experience Both definitions are needed when describing learning since both cognitive and
behavioral learning occur. In a constructivist classroom learning can be defined as, humans
construct[ing] knowledge and meaning from their experiences. (The University of Sydney) These
classrooms embraced learning more strongly than classrooms with a behaviorist orientation and far
better than classrooms with a laissez faire teacher (DiGiulio, 2004, p. 54).
Creativity and imagination are abundant among children, especially at the elementary school age.
Many philosophical approaches to education limit creativity and focus on following rules and
listening to instructions. Constructivist teachers refuse to limit students abilities providing students
with freedom of choice. Constructivism allows each student to learn in the style best suited for
them, whether that style is hands on learning, visual learning, or auditory learning, students want to
learn.
People learn in many different ways. The most common types of learners are listening, seeing, or
touch learners. Constructivism addresses all three of these learning styles. In a

Persuasive Speech On Soda
Introduction
Have you ever feel like wanting to lose weight? There is one simple thing you can do in your life
that can help you lose weight. Besides losing weight, doing this one simple thing can avoid many
health disasters and will help your body to become healthier! What is this one simple thing, you
may ask? The answer is, to stop drinking soda.
Thesis Statement
Throwing soda away from your life will help to change your life and makes your body healthier
than when you are consuming them. In this paper, after we examine its harmful ingredients, and
the specific ways it can hurt your health, you ll see why you should stop consuming soda. Then, we
ll explore the healthier alternatives to soda that we can drink every day.
Main point #1: Ingredients in Average Soda Drink
Firstly, to understand the real issue with soda we must first look at the ingredients that are
contained in an average soda drink. Most average soda contains these few basic ingredients which
are carbonated water, natural flavor, caramel color, phosphoric acid and high fructose corn syrup.
The first few ingredients in an average soda are harmless. Carbonated water is plain water
infused with carbon dioxide, which creates the bubbles and the gassy feeling we get while
drinking soda. Natural flavors are often of the citrus variety and added for taste while caramel
color is a natural additive that gives the color of food products.
Besides, the next two ingredients are not so harmless. Phosphoric acid is a chemical that adds a
tangy or sour flavor by breaking down starches into sugar, and sugar is one thing we should
avoid. The reason for avoiding sugar is reported in the USDA s Dietary Guidelines (2010) for
Americans. Those who drink beverages with a lot of sugar tend to drink more calories than those
who don t drink sugar saturated drinks.
This then leads to the connection between consuming sugar filled drinks and weight gain. Starches
aren t the only source of sugar. Another ingredient in soda that we should be concerned about is
high fructose corn syrup. This specific ingredient is included because it is an alternative form of
sweetener that is cheaper than anything else. Besides, it is also one of the single worst ingredients
in the food

Corruption of Wealth and Society through Geography in The...
Throughout The Great Gatsby, various locations are introduced that correlate to specific types of
inhabitants. The geography of the novel is primarily comprised of four scenes: East Egg, West Egg,
the valley of the ashes, and New York City. Although all of the localities are situated in the East,
Nick muses at the end of the novel that the story is, in actuality, of the West (Fitzgerald 176). This
discovery insinuates that the materialisms of the East besmirched the characters of the West,
symbolizing the deteriorating effects the quest for riches has on traditional values. Employing the
four major settings, Fitzgerald is able to translate the moral and social corruption of society which
dramatically contrasts with the conventional... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Both Tom and Daisy were careless people, since they smashed up things and creatures and
retreated back to their money or their vast carelessness after the damage was done (179). Daisy is
chiefly concerned with wealth and status, and becomes infatuated with the ostentatious mansion
Gatsby flaunts. This obsession with affluence is portrayed when she began to cry stormily at the
mere sight of Gatsby s lavish collection of expensive shirts (92). Even after her lengthy affair with
Gatsby, Daisy neglects to attend his funeral, symbolizing her callous nature and the fact that she
used Gatsby for his prestige.
Unlike East Egg, West Egg is primarily comprised of new money as exhibited by Jay Gatsby. In
contrast to its counterparts, West Egg is gaudy and extravagant, symbolized through the
grandiose manor Gatsby occupies. Gatsby s mansion is described as a colossal affair by any
standard which he utilizes to throw flamboyant parties in hopes that his longtime love Daisy
will attend (5). In this sense, he exploits his wealth to gain Daisy s affection, judging the
relationship by the measure of response the house evoked from Daisy s well loved eyes (91).
Gatsby relies on artificial and materialistic means as a foundation for his love. West Egg is also
represented as having an inability to conform to societal norms as well as translate social cues. For

Nursing Home Reflection
The following paper is a reflection of my York Care Centre resident visitation in which I will
discuss my experiences. Throughout this paper I will be reflecting upon my feelings, thoughts,
learning moments and my abilities both successes and failures to connect with residents and how I
apply the skills and concepts that I was learning in this course. Additionally, I will also include
scholarly references to support a point in my reflection.
Since I heard, we will be going York Care Centre to visit the residents, my heart beat increase, I
was super excited and looking forward to it but at the same time, I was nervous and panicking. It
was the first time for me to visit a nursing home, I had never been to any of the nursing homes. As
our first visitation day comes closer, I started having so many questions to myself such as how
am I going to begin a conversation, what I am going to talk with them, and what I am going to do
when I first meet them. I was frightened and unsure of what to expect, not that I lacked confidence,
or I had never been to any of the nursing homes and had not dealt with elderly residents but that
what I had heard about nursing homes from other people. I had heard many sad and unpleasant
stories of nursing home residents, therefore, I felt I did not have enough skills to listen, console or
meet their needs.
So, the first visitation day finally come and as I was walking through the nursing home halls it was
smelling very medicinal and the sights around

Normal life is not an option with a ferocious 30 year war going on, and it is no easier if it takes
place on the other side of the world in Vietnam. The Wednesday Wars searches through the ideas of
boundaries by using the life of a normal boy, Holling Hoodhood, to show the feelings of growing
up in the midst of the Vietnam War. Holling has to learn how to grow up and explore his
relationships and ultimately find himself. Throughout the novelThe Wednesday Wars, Holling
examines the boundaries of war through his experiences with his father, Ms. Baker, and his

Baker. Throughout Holling s year, he reads The Merchant of Venice, The Tempest, Macbeth,
Romeo and Juliet, Julius Caesar, The Tragedy of Hamlet, Prince of Denmark, and Much Ado
About Nothing. In each of these plays, Holling learns something about humanity and war which
helps him grow and mature. In the beginning, Holling thinks that Ms. Baker is out for revenge
because she is stuck with him every Wednesday. He thinks that it is all because he is a
Presbyterian. However, reading Shakespeare with Ms. Baker taught him about mercy, love, hate,
and revenge. One book he finds to relate to during his readings is Romeo and Juliet. Holling
does not want to end up like his father; he does not want to be like Romeo from Romeo and
Juliet who is called a Fortune s fool. Holling ponders about him and his father and decides that
he will never become like his father and thinks, For the first time, I wondered if it was what he
wanted or if there was a time when he might have wanted something else. Or if I wanted
something else. Or if we were both only Fortune s fools like Romeo (154). Hollings wishes to
choose his own path, and to see what he can do. Here Holling sees that he has to someday strike
out on his own to see the world for himself, without having to follow the deep footprints of his dad
s company. This moment teaches Holling a lot

Similarities And Differences Between Animal Farm And The...
Power,Utopia and the good life are all topics that coincide with each other to form our lives.
When considering the good life, power and utopia have to be brought into consideration, power
needs utopia and the good life etc.
Animal Farm and the Truman show both make these factors a topic of discussion using allegories
and metaphors as a main force to drive across a point or ideal.
Animal Farm in itself is an allegory, meaning it is made to express ideas, opinions and thoughts.
Truman show on the other hand is a movie made as entertainment, but it still has these key points in
it to express struggles and conflict.
One main point in the two stories is power and a lack of it, in the Truman show, Christof has all
power over Truman s life, while in Animal farm, napoleon has all power over the farm animals,
the two stories revolve around this idea of power and the changes it can make to someone s life.
The Truman show expresses that there is no true freedom in life without power, even though
Truman had a wonderful life that felt free, it was actually entirely controlled, when Truman catches
wind of this he starts rejecting the world around him in an attempt to feel true freedom.
In contrast, the Animals in animal farm have their power taken from them in front of their eyes,
however, a combination of low intelligence and pigs capitalising on animal stupidity leads to the
animals believing they are free and in power while they actually are not at all, the animals definitely
have

By the end of this summer I will have been a Buddhist for over four years now and I can honestly say that it has made a huge impact on my life. I have become a less stressed and more relaxed person from applying the Dharma basic principles to my everyday routine. Dharma has helped me create my own enlightenment path to eliminating my anger and transgression. After I made the change from Lutheran to Buddhismit has help me get through a lot of problems that I never could stop dwelling over and even just little everyday problems. When I had first heard about Buddhism it was on TV from then on I was intrigued. Coming from a family that never paid much attention to religion, never having been to church and only praying on thanksgiving I never had much interest in religion until I started researching about Buddhism. From then on I started to practice the teachings of Buddha and began to somewhat master so on the lessons but there are still something that I have yet to accomplish with college I haven t had much time to practice and there are said to be lessons that take some Buddhist almost a live time to accomplish. By following Buddha s path it has allowed me to develop a self awareness by seeing one s self and changing ones point of view. • 6. How do William Blake and William Wordsworth respond to... How do William Blake and William Wordsworth respond to nature in their poetry? The Romantic Era was an age, which opened during the Industrial (1800 1900) and French Revolution (1789). These ages affected the romantic poets greatly by disrupting and polluting nature. Before the Industrial Revolution, William Blake wrote about Songs of Innocence. He also wrote Songs of Experience but after the Industrial Revolution. William Wordsworth, on the other hand, continued on an optimistic route and ignored the Industrial Revolution in his poems. He instead wrote about nature only and its beauty. Previous Augustan poets were more controlled and rule governed. They were also concerned with order. In Blake s London , he describes the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Wordsworth talks about the mind being free and relaxed, Ne er saw I, never felt, a calm so deep! The adjective deep shows how immense the tranquility is. It also shows how the poem is personal, Ne er saw I. He sets the scene in the morning, creating a feeling of calmness and peace, The beauty of the morning; silent, bare. The noun beauty implies splendor and magnificence, showing the opposite of what Blake writes about London . The adjective silent is also the opposite of what Blake writes in London , How the youthful Harlot s curse . Wordsworth mentions the daffodils as people, When all at once I saw a crowd. Similarly, he uses personification, crowd , to imply that everyone is unified in nature. He uses color in his poem to indicate a deeper meaning, A host, of golden daffodils. The adjective golden illustrates purity as well, therefore connecting it to innocence. The noun host has a slight religious tone, which also relates to purity. The Daffodils has eight syllables in each line. Blake uses colour to expand the meaning of the sentence, Come and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Adoption In Haiti Haiti Case In January 2010, Haiti was struck by a massive earthquake, killing thousands of people and misplacing hundreds.20 A disaster of this kind often leads to the separation of a large group of people within a community including separating parents from children. In the desolation, chaos and widespread panic followed, a surge in child exploitation and trafficking was inevitable just as it was after for the 2004 Indonesia tsunami and how it is constantly happening in Guatemala.21 22 In the 1st two months, children were pooched by greedy westernized vultures without checking if they had any living relatives and the proper documentations.21 22 Just a few days after the catastrophe, children were already in the final stages of adoption and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is not only the involvement of two families but two countries. I think before any international adoption should proceed, the adoptive parents must make the effort to know the child s homeland. They must also demonstrate that they are willing to protect the rights of the child against any threat. I think in that way the child won t lose part of his cultural and ethnic identity. The sending country should make sure the international adoption is the last option after visiting the other options such as extended families that might be able to take care of the child or orphanage agencies or even domestic adoption. Only after these options have been exhausted, only then international adoption should be considered. Once it is done, they need to assure the child is guaranteed to have a better future. I don t think it should stop at a simple background check or to check if the adopters are good citizens. It should go beyond that; like take for instance the case of Carleton Gajdusek; he was an extraordinary scientist and he received a Nobel prize for his research. Given his background and how he was perceived in society, Gajdusek was given the opportunity to bring back with him in the US 56 children from New Guinea. Parents trusted the scientist and believe that he will offer those kids a higher education. However, he was later accused of molesting those kids. Shouldn t this be a lesson to society? He associated the Romantic hero with unique characteristics. These characteristics were not found in any other type of hero. In his poem A Psalm of Life , Longfellow defined a Romantic herois while the protagonist in his poem Excelsior gives an example of a Romantic hero. According to Longfellow the Romantic hero must be a nonconformist, a man of action, must act in the present, and above all contribute to society. In order for a hero to be a Romantic hero, he must be an individual. One cannot follow the crowd and be a Romantic hero. He did not inspire others to act in the present, although he did end up achieving greatness and finding his place in society. • 15. Nitrate And Its Effects On Exercise Abuse In The Human Body Nitrate (NO3 ) supplementation has been widely researched for its effects on exercise performance since Larsen et al 2007 found that it decreased the oxygen cost of submaximal aerobic exercise. The effect of NO3 in the body is tied to the production of nitric oxide (NO), which is an endogenous gas that plays a regulatory role in many processes in the human body, including; bloodpressure, calcium handling, mitochondrial biogenesis, excitation coupling contraction, oxidative stress, regulation of blood flow to muscletissues, and skeletal muscle repair (Stamler Meismer 2001). NO is produced in the body via the L Arginine pathway, where NO is synthesized by NO synthase enzymes (Stamler Meismer 2001). However, studies have discovered ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This increase in exercise tolerance may be able to increase the performance of both moderate and high intensity exercise, but the research is conflicting regarding nitrate s effectiveness on high intensity exercise. Nitrate supplementation seems to be a useful ergogenic aid that could help increase the performance in diverse types of exercise. The most widely researched and documented effects of nitrate intake been its ability to decrease the oxygen cost of submaximal aerobic exercise, at least in moderately trained or sedentary individuals. The first study to discover these findings was conducted by Larsen et al in 2007. They found that the oxygen uptake of moderately fit males while cycling at a moderate intensity (45% 85% VO2max) was reduced by an average of 0.16 L/min 1. The most shocking result of these findings were that it happened without an increase in the formation of blood lactate levels or any changes to heart rate, meaning that the nitrate supplementation did in fact increase muscle efficiency (Larsen et al, 2007). These effects have been most commonly noted in cycling (Larsen et al, 2007; Baily et al 2015, 2010 and 2009) and running (Porcelli et al, 2015). Reducing the oxygen cost of exercise during aerobic activities would benefit greatly in competition, as it would allow an individual to maintain a faster pace at a lower percentage of their VO2max than they previously could, thus theoretically delaying fatigue. In this $12 billion global business just one woman trafficked into the industrialized world can net her captors an average $67,000 a year (Baird 2007). The laws around human traffickingare not strict and vary depending on what country it is happening in. Human trafficking is not something that is strictly foreign, it is happening right in front of our faces, in our neighborhoods, and all around us. Many people have their own definitions of sex trafficking and human trafficking. A lot of people in the U.S believe that all prostitution is voluntary when that is not the case. As Lerum and Brents stated, Human trafficking is defined by the U.S. State Department of State as labor induced by force, fraud, or coercion. The definition of trafficking in the sex industry (but not other industries) includes additional stipulations for individuals under 18: When a child (under 18 years of age) is recruited, enticed, harbored, transported, provided, obtained, or maintained to perform a commercial sex act, proving force, fraud, or coercion is not necessary for the offense to be characterized as human trafficking (U.S. Dept. of State 2014, p. 29). Physician-Hospital Organizations Case In early 1990 s, physician hospital organizations (PHO), legal in the United States, developed to provide attractive one stop shopping for consumers, employers and managed care payors, by bonding the medical staff to the hospitals within an organization (Daniels 2011). This episode was originally aired on April 16, 2015, so the topic of discussion was if Bernie Sanders would be running for president and what were the issues he would focus on if so. Sanders made some very good points when he talked about our economy and the top one percent. He stated that the Koch Brothers are the second wealthiest family in America and they spend at least $900 million in campaigns so they basically own the country. I think this is very scary because if they along with other billionaires are the ones giving the money to campaigns then they are the only voices that are being heard. Typology in Christian theology and Biblical exegesis is a doctrine or theory concerning the relationship between the Old and New Testaments . (Merriam Webster 868) Perhaps the single most important concept for understanding early Christianity is typology. Typology is a form of study of literature identifying symbols especially in the Bible. This system of groupings, usually called types, the members of which are identified by postulating specified attributes that are mutually exclusive and collectively exhaustive groupings set up to aid demonstration or inquiry by establishing a limited relationship among phenomena. Typology is interpreted throughout text in American literature such as William Bradford s Plymouth Plantation, Jonathan Edward s Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God and Thomas PaineCommon Sense. During the Enlightenment, the meaning of Protestant identity became increasingly vague; typology took on the hazy significance of image and symbol; what passed for the divine plan had lost its strict grounding sculpture; providence itself was shaken loose from its religious frame work to became part of the belief in the human progress. The eighteenth century clergy took advantage of this movement to shift the focus of figural authority, from Bible history to the American experience. It is a violation of policy for health codes. This can be seen in the Mountain View Farms most likely due to the fact that they grew the spinach in unfavorable conditions. There is a possibility that the spinach field came into contact with the STEC O157:H7 through outside sources due to the fact that they were exposed in dangerous conditions in outside environments instead of being grown in a facility that is enclosed. In order to save and cut costs of manufacturing spinach, the farm most likely planted their spinach outside. While this practice is common, it is also unsafe as pollutants from other manufacturing companies and farms can wash down into the spinach field. In this scenario, according to the map of nearby industries, there are a few sources that could have exposed the spinach field to STEC O157:H7. The Floyd s Pork Farm is the most suspected source as the dangerous strain of E. Coli can be contracted from the animals through their food source and passed through their fecal matter. The feces are then washed into nearby water systems by the rain and might not be filtered and processed completely before being used. In this case, the water that was infected is being used for the irrigation system to water and grow the spinach and other crops. Now the spinach has the E. The USDA evaluated corn s crop value to be $76.9 billion in 2011, making it a huge contributor to the American economic system (National Corn Growers Association, 2017). Research gathered by Duke University found that the U.S. produced 40% of the world s supply, 10% of which comes from the small town of Constantine, Michigan while an additional 10% is produced from the surrounding areas ( U.S and Employment, 2015; Motz, T., 2016). These spikes in corn s global demand have created an opportunity for farmers and mid western field workers to become involved in the growing and profitable industry. a.(Sub Point # 1) One major influence on the great increase in the U.S. s corn production is its great economic benefit for our local and national economies through tax revenue and employment. Corn is a subsidized crop in the U.S., meaning that American farmers are paid a guaranteed price by the government, in addition to the profit of their yield, just for growing corn ( U.S and Employment, 2015). The Reflection Of Social Status In African Art The Reflection of Social Status in African Art The attachment of labels to particular groups of people is something society just can t stop doing. Categorizing brings comfort in a world that can often be very brutal and chaotic. Most people s first thoughts when looking at or meeting someone are along the lines of trying to guess what kind of person they are based on how they look, to get a better understanding of their social status. This idea is reflected within the arts as well, such as in the use of distinguishing factors to discern a leader or deity from mere mortals. In African culture, people of higher status often employed the fine arts in combination with other methods, to embed their absolute power into the minds of their normal counterparts. Hierarchical scale is a favorite among ancient artists when creating works featuring a high ranking member of society, be it a god or a mortal king. People in power want to remain relevant to the people they serve, and this relevance is often reiterated through forms of political propaganda that make them appear more menacing or divine. One of the more blatant examples of art indicating and reinforcing social status is the Altar to the Hand and Arm (Kleiner 402 403). The links in the chain are as follows: Profit and growth are stimulated primarily by customer loyalty. Loyalty is a direct result of customer satisfaction. Satisfaction is largely influenced by the value of services provided to customers. Value is created by satisfied, loyal, and productive employees. Employee satisfaction, in turn, results primarily from high quality support services and policies that enable employees to deliver results to customers (J. Heskett, T. Jones, G. Loveman, E. The Novel, set within the backdrop of the Biafra secession movement and subsequent civil war, demonstrates how the daily life of Biafrans was riddled with conflict, turbulence and trauma. Additionally, the novel depicts how the effects of colonialism remain a strong force in the everyday lives of the characters as many continue to hold colonial sentiment. Furthermore, through the character Odenigbo, Adichie highlights how education is an important tool for decolonisation and allows citizens to create discourse on their own terms. I have allowed myself to become stressed out, ignore the healthier relationships in my life, and have noticed a great decrease in my self esteem. In his sonnet Keats displays fear of not being able to finish his literary work he has has set out to accomplish in his lifetime. To accompany him is a cloudy night reminding him of a lost lover that he fears he will never see again. He seems alone and seeks a simple life over love and fame. Showing, that to him, existence and purpose is more important than any other distraction in life. Unfortunately, it seems to John Keatsthat life itself is the distraction. Constantly being obsessed with any aspect of life is an unhealthy way to live. The tone is identified immediately when Keats begins with a very common human fear, the fear of death. • 48. Reflection Of Rene And Rene Mora s Life Rene, Rene Mora; I think that name will forever be engraved on my heart. As a little girl, I already had my whole life planned out, but what didn t come to plan was being put into juvenile probation at sixteen. His parents and my mother met in mandatory parenting classes, there, our parents would sit and compare their children to each other. I had already known of Rene because we were attending the same high school at the time, and the fact that I would always hear about him fighting at school, but never would I had imagined that I would end up dating the kid. We officially met while we were both in bad moments of our lives, but Rene ended up saving me in every day that a person can be saved. Sociological imagination is the awareness of the relationship between personal experience and the wider society; it is understanding that some things in society may lead to a certain outcome. I like to think it as stepping into someone else s shoes, I always do this before I throw away food or clothes. Rene suffered with a high tolerance of anxiety; he reacted fast to something while he was full of anger, and then apologized for it after a short period of time. These days, we unfortunately still live in a society where some young men think proving themselves to others makes them real or down. A lot of them don t think abut loosing their freedom or family, until they are behind a steel door or dead. Our book left out the topic of grief; I feel that many people suffer with it today, ... With this one quote Peter Senge has managed to mock the modern education system. Today s educational institutions do exactly what Senge says not to; teachers try to transfer knowledge to their students through lectures, worksheets, and rubrics. This type of instruction, called essentialism, limits student s creativity. Students are unable to act independently from teacher expectations. Essentialism tends to have one right answer and only one way of finding this solution. Instruction following this set up will begin to reduce student perseverance; students become frustrated if they cannot solve the problem the way the teacher described and often give... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In order to embrace constructivism in the classroom one must first ask, what is learning, how do students learn, and how should teachers teach? Learning can be defined in many different ways. The Merriam Webster dictionary defines learning as, knowledge or skill acquired by instruction or study and modification of a behavioral tendency by experience Both definitions are needed when describing learning since both cognitive and behavioral learning occur. In a constructivist classroom learning can be defined as, humans construct[ing] knowledge and meaning from their experiences. (The University of Sydney) These classrooms embraced learning more strongly than classrooms with a behaviorist orientation and far better than classrooms with a laissez faire teacher (DiGiulio, 2004, p. 54). Creativity and imagination are abundant among children, especially at the elementary school age. Many philosophical approaches to education limit creativity and focus on following rules and listening to instructions. Constructivist teachers refuse to limit students abilities providing students with freedom of choice. Constructivism allows each student to learn in the style best suited for them, whether that style is hands on learning, visual learning, or auditory learning, students want to learn. People learn in many different ways. The most common types of learners are listening, seeing, or touch learners. Constructivism addresses all three of these learning styles. In a ... In this paper, after we examine its harmful ingredients, and the specific ways it can hurt your health, you ll see why you should stop consuming soda. Then, we ll explore the healthier alternatives to soda that we can drink every day. Main point #1: Ingredients in Average Soda Drink Firstly, to understand the real issue with soda we must first look at the ingredients that are contained in an average soda drink. Most average soda contains these few basic ingredients which are carbonated water, natural flavor, caramel color, phosphoric acid and high fructose corn syrup. The first few ingredients in an average soda are harmless. Carbonated water is plain water infused with carbon dioxide, which creates the bubbles and the gassy feeling we get while drinking soda. Natural flavors are often of the citrus variety and added for taste while caramel color is a natural additive that gives the color of food products. Besides, the next two ingredients are not so harmless. Phosphoric acid is a chemical that adds a tangy or sour flavor by breaking down starches into sugar, and sugar is one thing we should avoid. The reason for avoiding sugar is reported in the USDA s Dietary Guidelines (2010) for Americans. Those who drink beverages with a lot of sugar tend to drink more calories than those who don t drink sugar saturated drinks. This then leads to the connection between consuming sugar filled drinks and weight gain. Starches aren t the only source of sugar. Another ingredient in soda that we should be concerned about is high fructose corn syrup. This specific ingredient is included because it is an alternative form of sweetener that is cheaper than anything else. Besides, it is also one of the single worst ingredients in the food ... The geography of the novel is primarily comprised of four scenes: East Egg, West Egg, the valley of the ashes, and New York City. Although all of the localities are situated in the East, Nick muses at the end of the novel that the story is, in actuality, of the West (Fitzgerald 176). This discovery insinuates that the materialisms of the East besmirched the characters of the West, symbolizing the deteriorating effects the quest for riches has on traditional values. Employing the four major settings, Fitzgerald is able to translate the moral and social corruption of society which dramatically contrasts with the conventional... Both Tom and Daisy were careless people, since they smashed up things and creatures and retreated back to their money or their vast carelessness after the damage was done (179). Daisy is chiefly concerned with wealth and status, and becomes infatuated with the ostentatious mansion Gatsby flaunts. This obsession with affluence is portrayed when she began to cry stormily at the mere sight of Gatsby s lavish collection of expensive shirts (92). Even after her lengthy affair with Gatsby, Daisy neglects to attend his funeral, symbolizing her callous nature and the fact that she used Gatsby for his prestige. Unlike East Egg, West Egg is primarily comprised of new money as exhibited by Jay Gatsby. In contrast to its counterparts, West Egg is gaudy and extravagant, symbolized through the grandiose manor Gatsby occupies. Gatsby s mansion is described as a colossal affair by any standard which he utilizes to throw flamboyant parties in hopes that his longtime love Daisy will attend (5). In this sense, he exploits his wealth to gain Daisy s affection, judging the relationship by the measure of response the house evoked from Daisy s well loved eyes (91). Gatsby relies on artificial and materialistic means as a foundation for his love. West Egg is also represented as having an inability to conform to societal norms as well as translate social cues. When considering the good life, power and utopia have to be brought into consideration, power needs utopia and the good life etc. Animal Farm and the Truman show both make these factors a topic of discussion using allegories and metaphors as a main force to drive across a point or ideal. Animal Farm in itself is an allegory, meaning it is made to express ideas, opinions and thoughts. Truman show on the other hand is a movie made as entertainment, but it still has these key points in it to express struggles and conflict. One main point in the two stories is power and a lack of it, in the Truman show, Christof has all power over Truman s life, while in Animal farm, napoleon has all power over the farm animals, the two stories revolve around this idea of power and the changes it can make to someone s life.
